So the one that popped up is the bad one eastbound bell Parkway subject to closure after Rockaway Parkway accident there so could block all lanes before they can get that out of there. So just getting word of that. So that is definitely the bad news. The good news is New York state through a relatively minor accident cleared your northbound side of the mile square wrote in Yonkers so that's out of the way. So looking much much better there now across the Hudson river. There's construction typical stuff though, holiday little one named block each way Lincoln tunnel. The tube closure. The Senator tube, George Washington Bridge. That's your inbound the lower level. That's easy pass on they save for the balanced approach in Bob upstairs. One lane blocked across the span as they continue the construction. They're Bronx bound at the RFK triborough across the East River. You've got some work. You've got a couple lanes knocked out with that one. And also the cross Westchester some construction. Eastbound the saw mill into. "Four out at metro in here at WJR with Warren. And some of the things you need to know like what's happening. And this is a very festive religious time of the what's happening in Israel. Right. As we check in with the former Detroit a Wayne State grad got his masters and PHD from the university of Michigan. And then back in the seventies decided to head the Tel Aviv the teach history and now professor emeritus from Tel Aviv university, as we speak probably checking papers from some of his students, Robert Rockaway, welcome back to the motor city. If only via the phone mentioned that this is a very what should we say holiday time of the year. And I posted some pictures under warranty show Facebook page Bob of looks like a huge Christmas tree in the center of Tel-Aviv. How how big celebration is Christmas there in Israel. Good morning. First of all and happy new year tall your listeners, which will be coming up. So, you know, it's become a popular holiday in Israel. Actually, it's a fun time of the year. You know it for Christians. Of course, it's it's a religious holiday as well. But for many Israelis it's seen as kind of a very happy time of the year, lights everywhere. Many of them are broad. We'll saying go in London and other places in Prague and Budapest where the cities are all lit up, and they see it as really a very nice people are happy friendly. And then when it's over, of course, they go back to their natural state at least for this period of time, and they celebrated here, but not in a religious sense, but lights everywhere there are certain areas. Where diplomats lives live and others not far from where I live and their lights up. There's even some Christmas trees up. Because there are non Jews living in these areas, of course, Bethlehem and and Nazereth and places like that you have it. So it's really it's. Yeah, they they have trees up and lights everywhere as well. So it's it's interesting. What not a religious connotation about it with Jewish Israelis? But we do have people in the country who are not Jewish and many who've come from Russia who I grew up with Christmas. And they do celebrate it in one way, shape or form and many of them, although they may be married. They may be married to a non Jew, and so they they have trees, and they have certain kinds of things that they do that. We're not done in Israel before celebrating Christmas and some years ago, I was invited to a concert of the nutcracker suite with some friends from Russia who are Jewish name binary said you might enjoy it. I went there, and I saw the place filled with little. Kids, they were so cute. And then Santa Claus came out. And the kids all jumped up and started yelling and everything because they recognize the this in Israel, and they're they're Israelis or their parents came to live in Israel, and here they were they recognize that they loved it. And so you have that. And even amongst this Rayleigh youngsters who are not Christians. They kind of enjoy the lights, and and the the holiday wait a second Robert Rockaway for the for the Jewish kids there who may in the same here in the United States, the Jewish may be jealous of the Christian kids who are getting all these gifts and having all this fun on the day that Jesus was born. You've got you've got Hanukkah eight days. You've talked about the history and tradition, but the the Jewish kids are getting gifts as well. Exactly, it's it's hannukah's over now. But one of the reasons that Hanukkah became very, very popular. Amongst Jews is because of Christmas they had to counteract what was going on with Christmas. You even have the song on the first day of Christmas and went on and on the third day of Christmas. I true love gave to me. So in terms of gifts, you can you can give gifts on more than one day in Christmas. But Hanukkah is is often used as a counter act for Israel, children Jewish children counteract the lights and the gift of Christmas. And it's like for eight days rather than just the one. So yeah, I mean, but it's a nice time of the year. I have to say I I enjoy it. I'll be honest with you. I really what about it's fine. What about this coming Monday night and Tuesday, obviously there in Tel Aviv Israel and the rest of the country as well. The people will be selling new New Year's, but the Jewish religion. You've all you've already celebrated the new year. Well, you know, I stopped celebrating. I think when I was twenty and instill in the states, it's cetera et cetera. Really? But we we do have things here. A lot of people go to the hotels and have dinner or there's a party or something New Year's for certain. You know, they have parties they call it here. Silvester Saint Sylvester. And I say why do you do that? It's like sticking it to the ultra orthodox or something where you don't say New Year's use saint's day, Saint Sylvester which is what it's called in places in Europe. But yeah, a lot of Israelis many Israelis. Do celebrate it they go to a restaurant, they have dinners, or they have family affairs party of some kind young people, especially I don't do much. But I probably will have something for the grandchildren, my daughter and son-in-law and some other friends will come over or something like that. You know, it is celebrated and very quickly before we run at a time. I have to on a more serious note, Robert Rockaway, the former. Detroiter now living working and playing there in Tel Aviv. What's the take? What kind of impact is a story been that President Trump and the United States pulling out the remaining two thousand troops from Syria. How how how concerning is that for Israelis very very because that means that there won't be a counterweight to Russia or Iran in Syria. And we take it very seriously because let's face facts Russia in Syria. Well, Russia's certainly closer. But Iran, excuse me is not Israel's friend and now with America going away, supposedly, it's very bad. Even though Trump says, well, we give Israel barbeques of billions of dollars and everything it's terrible. It's like the United States withdrawing and losing its influence in the Middle East. These are things that are not pleasant for us to contemplate because let's face facts, we are a small country and with a small population compared to Iran, and and other areas, and so the the fact that the United States is pulling away it's gonna leave a vacuum in a sense that will be filled by Russia, and Iran and Syria and the right on the border. You know, it's a tiny country here you can reach the border with Syria and a couple of hours from Tel Aviv. It's. It's not we're not talking about California and New York, and there's still a what this there are still two thousand members of the terrorist organization ISIS, and there are some suggesting that there may be more. And as a result of the two thousand troops leaving Syria. They there might be more terrorists filling that kind of vacuum. That's on one hand. And then on the other hand you were born and raised here in Detroit, Robert Rockaway. There are people saying, hey, you know, we can't fight all the wars of the world and continue to stay there. And you need to let the countries take care of the issues that they're experiencing. That's true. I mean, I can understand that very well. You know, American parents are tired of having their sons and daughters going off places and fight for whatever. Whether it was in Iraq for whatever. Well, what about Afghanistan the US troops are in Afghanistan now for fourteen fifteen years? That's right. It's the longest running war states has been involved in history wise, and look I can understand the American parents feeling that where their kids are going there. And they're getting killed. You know, it's not it's not just patrolling and things they get involved in combat. There's this bomb attacks and all kinds of things. It's not pleasant. So I can understand that appealing to people say what do we do? We can't be the world's policeman. And that on the other hand, it's a real world. If the United States is not the policemen are withdraws, then who's gonna fill the vacuum which country Russia, and they have new missiles now that are unbelievable. Supposedly Hooton is promoting this this incredible new missile that they're making. We'll see what happens with that. In the meantime, always good talking with you, Robert Rockaway and Nike. We'll talk next. We'll talk next year to be sure. Listen, you take care of yourself. And I wish all of your listeners a very happy new year and good health and success in whatever they do. All right who half. Thanks. Appreciate f-fund on New Year's Eve. Let's get some of the other news stories unfolding on this final Saturday in the year twenty eighteen. Seven hundred sixty WJR.

Because I'd say that JT is not Sam darnold. Sam darnold is a step above what JT Daniels is. And remember Sam was a redshirt freshman at that point, not a true freshman. There's a difference there..
