"He's he's a guitar guide and he played a Flying v Guitar which is Very Cool Guitar. That was like his kind of Signature Guitar and he was like a very modest guy who was just really good at Guitar. And the way he played influence people lakes. Tv Raven and John Maher. Did he play sitting down or anything like that? I don't think that was a part of his thing necessarily. That's more like a bb king bb King thing to and I've been to like Blues Clubs. I think everybody just wants to be also. Maybe when they get older. They're like well. If I can sit. Why the hell not you know if you'll if you'll allow it not. Nobody's going to really come for you as the king did it. the other king yet. "Another note. Here is that this was produced by Quincy Jones. Who also inducted into the? Rock Hall in two thousand thirteen. We watched the music video for this song. We've asked I mean it's such so it's weird and so arbitrary in its selection of shots like she is at times doing a photo shoot and then she's like being chased by a man and then she's on a motorcycle and the shooter but it's just so nothing is connected to the point where I had the thought watching it like was this created by a fan like this can't really be the music video. Is it a Malcolm of stuff? I think they dismay they decided to put together a music video without really having to shoot much new footage or I don't know or maybe they did it. Just there's no there's no through line it's just really. It seems like a three different music videos. There was the story of her being on the roadside. Getting on the moped with two suitcases. And then there was the story of her being very bored and weird at a photo shoot and then there was the story of her being danced at and jumping off a balcony at a fancy dinner. And then there's an additional lake sound stage where a bunch of color play. It's I don't know but the You know the other players on this song you've got the Todo dudes the per car or brothers in Steve Luther who also played on the original version of alone by I ten but also they played on every song at this era. Now can I ask I ten? Is it spelled? I ten interstate ten or is it spelled I. E. Y. Tan lower case. I Hyphen Capital T. Lower case lower case in well and this is before apple. I know they maybe should consider legal action. I had on iphone eleven. He said it has said why did I know that's the big question sided? I said it. Why did I said that this song was nearly a duet with Bruce but they ultimately scrapped that idea. I think that would have helped it in the charts probably and Bruce considered recording his own version for born in the USA. But I think he did record it but it's unreleased.

"That was don't give up by Peter. Gabriel that is off of his fifth solo studio albums so from nineteen eighty six. That was released as a single did much better in the UK than it did. Here went to number nine of UK. Went to number seventy nine in America and of as a duet with Kate Bush. Also someone much more popular in the UK event if America. Maybe that has something to do with. Yeah I also think that I mean that's a six and a half minutes on and it doesn't I mean it goes. It is not poppy. It doesn't bop along that's for sure. I mean it's a lovely idea. It's you know it's it's not that is like if I'm GonNa need a song to pull me back from the edge I'm probably GONNA go for. Everybody hurts before I go for. Don't give up. I recognize folks their merits in that regard in that regard a little bit of background on that Song. Peter Gabriel saw some of those classic pictures of like Dust Bowl Americans during the depression and Dorothea. Lang was the photographer. It's like that classic migrant mother image and then he was kind of connecting it to the economic hardships of the Thatcher Era Britain and I guess because his reference point was those kind of American roots images. The first person he wanted to do the duet with was not Kate Bush. Madonna will cause of the ritzier. American music was Dolly Parton. Well imagine that video with Dolly Parton and could not be used that close in that hug. There's something in the way. We should point out that there is a music video for the song which we watched and it is exclusively Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel in a close embrace as there's an clips behind them and they are on like a turn a spinner. What's the word I'm looking for their on the turn table? They're being rotated right. Now that you see only one of whoever's singing gets rotated this embrace in this very close embrace it was really. It felt like a flax on all of us during social distancing that watching two people hug for six and a half minutes would actually harm my mental house more than having to hear a kiss song but it did. It is one shot to continuous. Take you know Kate. Bush is giving it her all as she always does need. She's an expressive lady. She's a an eccentric woman. I really like her. She is cool. I mean it's just wild that that was ever released. Gabriel do and I love Bush and I think this song is fine. It's just not going to be one. I'm ever GONNA will hopefully make I would need to turn to it. Maybe in my hour of need top youtube comment was from someone who got saved from suicide by the songs are like like. I really can't pooh-pooh it. There's an interesting comparison with both the feel of this song and the music video to the single from so that was released before this which was sledgehammer. Which is so different and look at music videos to it's so intricate and complex and obviously one of the more inventive music videos of all time. That's followed up with one. Take maybe a choice to go and be extreme opposite direction and I think it was probably thought of as innovative to do a single take the eclipse happening behind them. I don't now digital technology was just mean they were using burgeoning digital technology. And maybe felt very edgy. At that point. But I'm like how can you make sledgehammer? Sledgehammer is still an impressive. No it really is. That is our Corentin playlist for twenty fourteen to review. We had stay away from Nirvana. You can look but you better. "That was alone too long by hall and Oates off of their Fourth Studio Album Self titled Daryl Hall and John Oates that is from nineteen seventy five and that song was released as a single although it only went to number ninety eight on the charts. I don't know why because what an absolutely great song that was great. I had a great time listening to it. I'm I'M GONNA put a little heart next to it and you know what it's gone into my leg songs. What the hell take that spotify. I'm curious kristen if you could tell anything different about that song. That hall notes on on now. This attest no if it didn't strike you then it didn't strike you. I mean yes. There was a point in it that it sounded like another one of their song. Okay it here that maybe you kind of picked. There was a point in it that it sounded like Was it manager or or rich girl. Yeah yeah it sounded like rich girl in a part of it and was like well? Well let's get back to that. What is interesting about this song is? It's backup singers. John oates is singing lead so usually especially for the singles. Daryl Hall is singing lead but this is one of the ones where John is taking the lead vocal. It's a really good. He does a good job. I found real smooth in groovy. Yeah this is a really. This is a really fun song. This was also I have not seen the show but I guess it was the theme song to that show. Hello ladies that Stephen Merchant did. Oh Yeah I did not see that show either but I actually thought to myself. This should be in a television show like this just set such a mood also was it was it. Roy was Bob who was there Chenggong Roy Ray or boy Roy. Traian had admitted on this year. Podcast that he was flown to on the dime of Hala notes management to New York to advocate for them at the Rock Hall Nominating Committee a committee that he was already on. But you know the the Holland notes people. They gave him a little extra juice not to say he wouldn't have advocated for them any other year or instance but he did say specifically they asked him to do it and he apparently lodged it works and the thing with that type of thing is you could be like That's interesting but also the rest of the committee was like. Yeah I agree. And then they put them on the ballot and then uneven larger body was like yes they should be in the hall so yeah he didn't like you know back door the men or anything like that but well and you know. I was a bit dubious about the hall and OATES induction. 'cause you know. I think that they have and perhaps an unfair reputation but because they were such a popular band in the eighties and they had so many pop hits. I think that people don't take them that seriously and I was one of those people and I liked their package was good. Quest- love induct another Philadelphia. You said that was there. What studio album was at their first album? Know known fourth in One thousand nine hundred seventy five. That was their fourth studio album. Yes they were. They were going for a long time before they really broke through. How old are they old? Daryl Hall is seventy three and John. Oates is seventy two. I'm over here like say what well there you have it. They're still out there making music. Or to the touring they will put out stuff. And I don't know the daryl hostile does it be. He had a fun show where he would have over to his house and they just jam. I remember that Daryl's house boy so far. This has been a real fun playlist. What could possibly bring us down. I'm just waiting for something of a meow. Well let's let's move onto you know in quarantine. We try to stay active if we can I? It's hard to do because you can't really leave so it just feels like most of the time that you're spending your sitting down so let's just let's listen to a song that's called sitting by cat evens.

"I don't know that he's famous enough to almost be in the rock and Roll Hall of fame being that. I'm much more familiar with many of his contemporaries and I can't draw exactly a straight line from him to do you know what I mean like. I think he's very good. I just don't know I mean should he? I wouldn't be mad. I think yes but I don't know that he will. I guess is what I'm saying. I say yes should he? I wouldn't be angry if he got in and then do I think he will. I do not think so. I I think maybe someday unless there's something kind of I mean who knows. This is probably going to come back to be. We're going to be playing tape of me being like no no no angel from from this year's induction death words playing with John. Reid Jackson is doing an awesome. Dance in effect down as the angel could really be a wildest sermon of inductees this year. Yes well but he does in the background living because truly the wildest card as far as nominees concerned so to me. I don't know if it were but then what do I know? I only know what I know from this podcast which is more than most people. But I don't I I don't know that he ever well and if he does I would say oh my. Gosh I can't believe I'm like not this year for sure maybe ten years from now maybe like ten years from now when I dunno surged. Simpson is running the all known. That's my uninformed semi informed opinion. George George it's hard because I just don't trust of humanity. I mean I think he absolutely should if I mean if there if it's made if there's musicians American musicians who are made to be celebrated its people who are from the beginning till now keeping the same kind of integrity and vision I think he will. Because I think there's been this big wave of momentum behind him recently. If it's going to happen I think it's going to be this year. Awhile stiff competition. It is always alive because you deserve that kind of moment and also George I will say I will caveat that with to say I think it was going to happen. It would be this year but sadly do not believe it's going to be this year it could you know. I think he has an outside shot especially because I I'm on the ballot We don't know how we have. Voters respond to him. We do know that musicians love him. He's a musician's musician is he. Two Countries he to folk. I mean I don't think you can be to folk for the Rock Hall. Honestly Right which bias you've made tributary is open. I agree all the AMC's like you have to. If you want this to be something worth wild yeah you have to have right right right and I think he is given the moniker of being country which we know was not allowed but folk is you know and I think he's way more focused agree. I accident I think he should get in. If not for just the influence of people who so many people who are in will he get in? I think he will get in because I think he has the amount of respect that is required to get in going against the lack of fame and name recognition. I don't think it'll be this year. I worry that it will be immediately posthumous Oh is that that might be what it takes. Hey didn't work for Whitney. No this is crazy. I might have worked if Whitney died now. I mean if that makes any sense like we have different from what it was back. When Whitney died at any rate. Yeah I I always gotta bring up my faves. The there is a there is a listening to on the way here and there was a quote one of the songs that I was like. Oh you know. This is kind of like what sums it up and he said You know I could have me a million more friends. All I'd have to change is my point of view so I think that to me. Is You get more votes right. Fundamentally different person right. I'm glad he's not if that's what takes not getting into the hall. Keep some John Bryan. Then they can go fuck themselves. I think ten years was about on point. It could happen sooner if if he dies or gets very sick. I don't know it feels like there's something has to happen. That would a groundswell of support that you know would be created. Yeah all right. Let's say he gets inducted though all right so it happens this year? Who inducted him? I mean Bruce Probably Press. I mean that'd be that'd be cool or Dylan. I think would do it for him. Which is if they could get dylan to one of those ceremonies again. They would they would go nuts and doing what probably probably well. Okay or the young guys. Yeah back or the accused in that world. I think they I think they did it. Together in unison. What if Dylan Yeah? I mean he's kind of like the has that kind of respect I think that they would and then it could also be Bonnie Raitt or it could be like Emily Harris or it could I mean. These are all people who have shown up in participated in the hall. It really feels like the doors wide open to just about anybody that is you know you make a good point of the Dylan factor. Which is that if they could get Bob Dylan to one of these ceremonies. I think that everybody would be what what do we have to do. Do you think they've cooked the books you think they can't say that here on the and then okay? Let's say he's inducted what the artis usually play three songs. What three songs do they put three songs? Can I name Sam Okay? San-suu Sam Stone. I mean we just I would. It would definitely not be good as gold right is that that's on gold good as gold. Those three that's what I think they would play. I'm curious what his top three on spotify. Good Q I saw him. He played this a benefit at the hotel recently and he played for. Everybody plays four song. Okay well this is yeah he gets. He is ultimately in charge. You know he played two new ones. I forgot I just realized as I said that. Okay so probably not those. But he played all the best which is kind of a deep cut. But it's a beautiful.

"No other choice. There's no other choice. What else would you do? You know aretha gives a an introduction to it which is nice aretha also really connecting with the crowd. She is not attempting to connect with any of the divas at all. I think she thinks it's her own concert at points. She keeps talking about. How great the audiences and how happy she is to be here and doing her own personal story and then singing the whole time and then at one point she puts her arm around Mariah. Larry everyone else must have felt like fuck. She only likes Mariah. She does on and it's very clear that she really liked Mariah. She brings mariah clothes and she This is where I would like to house. Her Commend Glorious Stefan. For a second. Because there's sort of a sing off going on Where these women are trying to out sing. Aretha Franklin Errand Yeah for Gordon's Gloria Stefan. Essentially just puts the microphone. Down does not attempt to come at the Queen. Yeah there's there's absolute value in knowing your place and you can see that with Gloria. Yeah an ARETHA had not rehearsed too. So they didn't know what she wanted to do it. She s she. She's singing over everybody's verse in. She's getting funky weird bump in people out points. It's not egregious it's not subtle either. It's very this is my song my stage And I'm making sure you know that it reminds me of when Michael Jordan plays in an all star game a good comparison comparison. Does it seem like Selene is annoying to be around? Yeah she's just like she's basically kicking high kicking and like she's really trying to get some state some time she's coming at. She's trying to sing. Looking into Aretha is which is like an insane thing to do like she's an alien choosing just does not understand she's understand. Oh but here's a here's an interesting fact so by the time. Divas live aired in April. You're still the one was a mega smash hit turning twain into a household name and giving her the third most popular song of Nineteen Ninety eight and in fact sh anez segment was the highest rated quarter hour of the divas broadcast. Blame IT ON. Joey's teenage Boehner but all of our team and another fun fact about this divas thing. Is that the poster was designed so that each singer's head was exactly the same size down to the millimetre divas did you can't live with them can't live without an all of the divas concerts are benefits for the VH1 save the Music Foundation and the way the Divas Live. Kinda got started was that they had been having these VH1 honors programs which were kind of Egli. Remember this. Yeah they were like Grammy's adjacent kind of honors show adjacent. They weren't incredibly popular and then the divas came. And so they kind of like shelved those in ninety seven and ninety eight pivoted for the rise of the divas so we are going to watch another divas. Do you guys have any final thoughts on demand? Live Ninety eight. I highly recommend watching this Leon performance just to see it's like a car crash This incredible car crash. I would watch. I'm GonNa Watch it again and it's the only thing I'll watch again from this performance so now next up we're going to watch divas live ninety nine. You know what? Let's let's actually. "Alvin. Thought you were going to say when you said that. I'm like Madonna is have done in the Rock Hall. She got in as soon as she was eligible. Yes that's I mean. I had to be by that. You'd be surprised Whitney. I would say not had to be inducted first year but that how soon she's been inducted as shocking to me. I want to know what was happening in that year that that would be the move because it is very surprising to me that they wouldn't make Madonna. Wait to know what Madonna pop a few things. Okay I think I have an answer to it. Which is that he Madonna was discovered by a man named Seymour Stein who has been on our podcast twice on the podcast founders south. He's maybe not a founder but he is extremely influential was the president of the Rock Hall and I think at this time was he was running the nominating committee. He was just a major player and she is one of his most important signings. Wow without question. He agitated over seventy an influence of politics in the Rock Hall for sure I would say that is it. Plus the fact that she wait she's undeniable. She's undeniable and white right there. It is up there it is. I mean that's like Genera. The Rock Hall is valuable but this was one case where they did the right thing. But Donna share share is not the Rock Hall. No she talked about it on that one episode with all that shocking to me. Yeah especially because she has the history that goes back into the sixties that you think would appeal rain. The Rock Hall set nominated. She's never end. Share like tragic history there but she continues making incredible record. She has had huge hits and a Lotta decades huge hits and a lot of decades so she is very high on twitter She continues to be in the cultural conversation and I think she has definite influence. I mean one of the first artists to ever fully utilize auto tune. If for better for worse better I think I ought to and I think is great when used correctly and I think a lot of the dislike of attitude has a lot to do with just people will not change and thinking. Oh I know what talent is and talent to me. Is the specific vocal skill but auto tune really evens it out with soundcloud bedroom producing all that kind of stuff that comes into play but anyway back to share that is shocking to me. And there's someone who has absolute spectacle fashion icon puts on a show is fully. Yeah I don't know I think share should get in. I think Cher was on the ballot. She immediately I. It's hard to say 'cause all those guys at that meeting when we had jaundiced Seymour Stein at Al And they were all like. Oh Yeah for sure share. Yes Pat Benetton. No I remember not ever forget. That's weird no yeah. It was a wild one in two thousand ten. Maybe the most I mean. Madonna's up there with pop inductees this. This might be the top one which was Abba..

"I I remember from that performance you can see two or three young kids. TEENAGERS UP FRADIN POGO ING in Washington. I always wondered if those who they were and if they were like hired to schouten atmosphere. Oh you do I. Do we watch this if we did watch some of this performance seen ceremony. One of the kids is Chris. France and Tina weymouth son. Talking heads were inducted. That dot is so they have like a super punk kid. Maybe a few of them but I know at least one of them. Yeah we got it is. That's cool okay. So much better about that. Because he's he's got like the full on Mohawk like glued hair to spikes right right. Yeah okay good good because I I remember watching that when it came out you know because there's VH1 was still broadcasting. And I was like even as a teenager I was this feels like maybe this was You know not authentic. So I'm so I am. I'm very happy to hear that it's at least. It seems often. He might be like thirteen or something. Yes yeah he's like a kid it's really cool love it. I love that In two thousand and three we had no tribute performances. Could there could have been a tribute performance for the clash. This is another sad one joe. Stromer died in between induction announcement and the ceremony. You hate to see. What did they do for them? They just there was no there was no performance. Though I feel like the grammys that year you do get that. Great Class. Tree with Dave Grohl and shallow Elvis Costello the guys from no doubt and and a better job of this kind of thing we evidence. Is this bringing bad blood here. It's just come up several times while the aretha tribute at the grammys was great. Like I will say for Rock Hall. Did it better David Bowie tribute than the grammys anyway. Let's go back to two thousand four when George Harrison was inducted and again they don't do any George Harrison. Got My mind set on you. They don't do they. Don't have my sweet Lord or they don't do. I love that. I said I got my mind set on. You is like the quintessential right that song. I always saw George Harrison in wrote that Gama mindset. I knew I already was a cover of some old song from the Sixties Shit. Yeah yeah anyway conic music video the ad so good but there are clearly. It's associated with him but there it's yeah that's what a huge gaffe on the rocks part. So the the Rock Hall of Fame Rock. They do Handle with care. which is a traveling blueberries? Song.

It was it was a surprise to see that on the list of inductees for twenty twenty. I love to imagine engine Jon Landau pretended to be surprised. Me You Guy Acecomm lives. Who did this come on? Who did this says? I swear I said don't do it. I said don't don't give me the award but they did. Oh God I just have the best staff the greatest staff in in the world but yeah. That's it so there you go that that fully rounds out the class of twenty twenty why. It's so funny. This has been public information. I was like I wonder if Kristen saw. "Be so that's the first part of the the Carl Hart episode. Wow I mean I'm recording. This now have occurred it so I'm going to say where we ever so truly i. I can't believe that I ever sounded like that and sat all those things that I said. We hope you're enjoying it. We're GONNA take a little break thing. We used to not do back in the day and and we'll be back in a second. Welcome back. Everybody we hope you had a nice break. We hope over your break. You you reminisced about how young you used to be and let's go ahead and jump back into this. Who Cares about the Rock Hall? Classic Whitney Houston with Carl Tart. Let's jump in. What a great great segue I have some so? There's no real good way to figure out the hall has not said. Here's a list of criteria used used to determine who's worthy inductee So I've tried to assemble some categories. That can help us to figure out if an artist is a a credible for fine criteria for this podcast. Okay so the first is critical. ACCLAIM IS WHITNEY HOUSTON. Have the attention. And and respect of critics and I would say yes. ABSOLUTE RESERVES IT multi Grammy Winner to right. Yeah Yeah. She's won grammys from her. Our first album on grammy. So the I am. She won his level best female vocal performance. Yes on the greatest level which is such such a beautiful soul And she there is a very At the time controversial snubs she was not nominated for best new artist because she was deemed ineligible because she had done a duet with teddy gassed like the year. Before and it. It was like a messed up. That's rude. Who won that year? Do you know I mean it'd be weird. Shoddy all right sure they they gave you a bike rides. And 'cause at the grammys at time. It they would sometimes give the black artists awards during the commercial. Oh my God I know all right over. Ah We gave the best black single best best jungle singled just like over the commercial break. which is crazy? Go Wild Yes so I think definitely has critical acclaim Even if there are prickly critics who don't like her music they all give it up like I just feel like she's so university though. That's what I mean when I say my GRANDPA I don't mean like my openminded coup last. GRANDPA I mean. My GRANDPA was just just like that is a beautiful woman who can sing. Well this new. I'm getting too if you don't like the songs themselves or the production or that type of music. Everybody gives it up for her whereas a singer. Yeah like she just has a voice that is undeniable. Yeah you know so in comes through even like the critics who only like Elvis Costello have to say Whitney's got maybe when one of the best ways to all time arguably the best all right next up is does Whitney have a classic album up and I would say that I that I Release is a classic album. The self titled Whitney Houston I would say definitely one because that is the album that introduced her to everybody. So that's has that. has that kind of impact. That album has the greatest the love of all that. Has You give good love.

"My votes started out in the psychedelic folk genre went to electric and then became the pioneers of Glam rock which we all know. I love for three years. They had the popularity of the Beatles and the UK and of course they were huge influence on many generations of music. Most importantly to me on Nikki six. When he was a child and one of the reasons he wanted to becoming musician? And we all know. That's important because Motley crue. Sorry because Motley crue yes why because crew because Yeah I. I can't add anything to that. I totally agree. Love T. HE REX's same. Everybody knows the couple of songs but solid gold reaction being huns. Great stuff just that. Just what happens. I think some of these artists. That just isn't enough room on the radio for a lot of their other. Great materials like the most. I sat down one tonight and watched a documentary on slade. There was so many great songs that were you know they had like. They were like big in Europe and big a big in England and stuff like that the we never really heard much Over over here in the states. But that doesn't make them any less amazing And I know whose Latin last on your list go ahead. And I'm I'm an agreement with T T rex. And I'm definitely with his last band thin lizzy the last of votes The classic Twin Guitars Poetic Lyrics alone should allow them to have already been in the hall of fame over many who've gotten previously they had energetic live shows and that helped to find hard rock. We just talked about Phil on on one of our last shows amazing vocalist and songwriter. So I they're really. They should have been in a while ago in my opinion yet. Wildly influential band amazing guitar. Work you very unique to very They they went very interesting places with the new standard rock tune. They were able to To just push it in new directions that I don't think has been equalled yet now the guys from thin lizzy Scott Gorham has gotten together with some other other folks and they have another band. We've actually played them and it's cool. But it lacks the sort of imagination duration and the magic of Finless Gustaf Greater Scott still playing. He's amazing musician. But just you know We are going to be popping over to our private inner circle group here to to hang out with you guys discuss things things a little bit deeper preview. Some of the upcoming shows that we have is well before we get out of here to do. We have any comments. Is there anything you'd like to share with our our folks folks that have chimed in who are hanging out live John Joseph coons are esteemed. Boss Man. his Pixar Pat Bennett. Our soundgarden thin lizzy Dave Matthews band motor head and he didn't pick another one Also said Great. Show everybody's basically agreeing with everything we're saying Mc Five and Judas priest. Yes us Charlie Doyle says hi she'll yes to thin lizzy from David. Chen and great should've been years ago. And make sure you guys are actually going to the Rock Hall and voting the fans still have a couple of days devoting. Here's what I here's in in closing closing I want. I just want to say this about the rock and Roll Hall of fame and the whole thing first of all the rock and Roll Hall of Fame Grammy Awards all that stuff you know. It's kind of fun. Maybe maybe it's harmless. I don't know but it seems to me that we're we're taking something that is really special to a lot of people really means a lot to a lot of people and kind of instead of celebrating. Yeah I think what ends up happening. Is We kind of cheapen it a little bit by making trying to pit people against each other while we only have five and you can only do this and we can only. Yeah this and also you know the legacy of rock and roll is really really important. Even I mean even people who are not rock are influenced by rockers and want to be rockers. It's no it's it's not an accident that the Jonas brothers are you know trying to play some rock tunes in their set. It's no accident that Justin bieber shows up with Iran maiden shirt on or whatever you know they know where the cool stuff is exactly Lewis iron main. You know they can't do that. The can't be that but they want to kind of identify with it. Whitney Houston notorious. B I g some of these people they just they aren't that it's fine. It's totally cool but I am for. I'm not gonNA sound kind of fascist but it's a good fascism. I think that we're GONNA have a rock and roll hall of fame. Let's be rock and roll. Let's talk about. Let's talk about real rock and roll. Let's get people who are really passionate passionate about it to really be talking about it and I would say instead of inducting people into some kind of rock and Roll Hall of fame or making it some sort of like competition petition. where bands like Russia? A lot of people felt should have been in long time ago. took a long time again. We're still waiting for thin lizzy MC five's instead of having all that garbage go on. Why don't we just threw out? Maybe two three times a year have a big party there and celebrate all the legacy of rocket constantly be in having different rock artists feature them talk about them get into them introduced the younger generation to them play. Their music celebrate their music instead of this assertive competition kind of BS that they try to do with it. Cleveland's a great city been there. Many times have had a lot of funding Cleveland's Linda Zoo. CLEVELAND IS IRAQ. And Roll Town. If you've ever been there you'll know exactly what I'm talking about Helped the browns figure someday. But that's that's all I really want to say but don't let it get you down guys. Play your old records. Listen to some of these. New Artists were playing. And just enjoy yourselves. Have Fun Rockin. As I've said Ed many times many times if you think rock is dead you just haven't been paying attention. Rock Ridge Radio DOT COM Levin Rock and ROLL CIRCUS DOT COM. This is just a couple. We're going to do a podcast. Eventually on the top rock podcasts. You should be listening to where you can hear all about this stuff all the time. So we're going to tell. "Led Zeppelin sanely important. And you know influence everybody credence clearwater revival Jimi Hendrix Hendricks. Nice to have that sort of touchstone and if the rock another thing the rock from hall rock and Roll Hall of fame how many millions liens they spend. Oh my gosh sixty five. Yeah yeah this is a lot of money that they can't just end. It can't just be like well that's right we're done we're done. We haven't everybody in so they've got to keep the thing going somehow. But that's GonNa stop people like me and some of my other friends who have podcasts for from railing against the let's pick somebody else. We're GONNA DO PAT benefits. Our next. She was my first votes. Of course a female got my first vote. She's all around talented. She's been in in musicals. TV show. She's a tough chick. And a time. When rock and roll is all about the men made women want to be a Rockstar? She sang about tough subject matters and she had the ability eighty to adapt to different changes in the music industry. She went from a hard rock sound to a pop sound and she won. Four grammys and I just think she's fantastic wildly influential fluential on not only other rock vocalists. And I think she's probably influenced male vocal for some. Are these guys that came out a little bit later in the eighties with that. Great High High Tenor. This little bit of pat minutes are going on there. They would admit it But she's also influential on people like Martina McBride who's a huge country star. So pats everything okay. LILLIES taking a call. Sorry I had to listen to that guy. It was weird voicemail. I'm sorry it was Kinda creepy. Okay Nice creepy voicemails side. Yes I I to me. It's a you know ish. She as important to rock as Tina Turner. Maybe not. I don't know but still somebody who fits the criteria of somebody who has been an influence on that on the next upcoming generation and inspired folks and she is is a real rock artist. legit comparing contr just listened to Whitney Houston hit and a manager. You it's night and day one is R. and B. and one is rock who's next We're GONNA do Dave Matthews Band next and I'm going to get pooped on take but I and I'm sorry to anybody who loves them. I think they're one of the most boring band out there. I don't think that they should be. They should be on the ballot eventually. But I don't don't think it's their time just yet. And this is due to their Fan Base Aka popularity thing that I talked about which is which said isn't a factor but even on the website quote it from the website supported by a commercial fan base and continue to pick up new generations of fans along the way you're going against your own criteria. Just saying on that. I just don't find them very interesting. They say they change up their songs even during show. That all sounds seem to me so they are not a my vote. I don't think they should be on the ballot yet eventually. Sure but not not yet from I think that I would agree with what you said for the most part on there I heard somebody posted on our facebook that he moves James Conway. What are you guys said that actually Dave Matthews says that he doesn't want to be in the Rock Hall? I read about that and you know that might be true and my dad that that that might be true. Maybe not yet. I think Mesa good way of putting it What it is interesting though about the Dave Matthews Dave Matthews? And not. If you're maybe you would you probably gotta be aware of this that these Dave Matthews. His in this category very hated did artists. Yeah he's in the category with creed nickelback. I don't think he deserves that. I in the Rock Hall of fame you know and you know whether your personal tastes aside all. I've never seen them live anything time I've ever seen them play like any kind of live shows on television insanely talented musicians. It's like it's kind of like kind of like alternative attorney version of the grateful dead in some ways different kind of near Jalen. They're chanting definitely Jamie but they've got more of like a kind of funk kind of energy kind of thing going going on with what they do. I think our killer I think demand is killer but I could see where I would say I would probably agree with you with maybe like not yet. I don't think it's this time. I don't think it's their time. It's too soon. Dave who's next next is depeche mode I really don't know maybe maybe not They sit sort of did push the boundaries with new synthesizer technology that was widely popular at the time and the original kid's I consider them heroes. You know what the dark industrial love songs. So maybe I don't know I don't really have an opinion on the. Let me let me say this because craft work is also on the list. Yes and I have again. I have no idea anything about okay. Here's the question and I want to ask you guys. I think we will in fact I'm GONNA put these two guys on the list next to each other. We can do them next hopes. Excuse me amongst yourselves. He's trying to type E I can't do it. He's doing too many things. Here's the question. Can it be rock and roll if it doesn't have guitar now. The one of the V the very first inductees Jerry Lee Lewis Little Richard Little or no guitar right. Those are piano men and if you will. Is Elton John in the Rock Hall. I WanNa say he's gotTa be so Depeche. Nash mode and craftwork are both bands. It were insanely influential. I got I got my back up a little bit over depeche mode when they were. I saw them interviewed on television. Show when I was young whippersnapper and they said that Oh you know guitars are gone. Nobody wants a year. Guitar are anymore so as I was all upset about that but I have calmed down as they say in Pittsburgh in your old age in my old age yeah I think that the I think it's undeniable that they are wildly influential band and I think a lot of bands I became later later. I think like I just look at Marilyn Manson like you know he's a he obviously hugely influenced by Depeche mode. I think that you could even say that about the summer. Rob zombies music so can came. came out of that stuff. You're right the Gothi Mo- crowd you know all those bands it was like pre industrial and the same way. Same Way Craftwork. Craftwork was a wildly influential band. INF influential and progressive music as well and the also largely responsible for introducing the world to another amazing female vocalist Alison. Way If you don't know who Alison Moya is I would tell you to go check out. Allison Wa amazing more of an underground indie pop op artist. Vote Amazing Singer very unique voice. Just everybody says Adel Adel Alison. Allison Moya was Adel. Twenty years before Adele. Okay very much ahead of her time. great great work. It was it was really awesome. Awesome that the craft working alison embraced each other and and work together. But it's this is music. That is not Whitney Houston A- all this is music that is like it's pretty deep stuff. They were really pushing for doing different things they were doing things with with synthesizers and stuff that really really had been you know put together in that same way am creating great pop tunes out of it so I would say I gotta say Yes to both those those bans even though personally I don't just sit on a craftwork album and crank it up. I know who they are and when I hear them on like I recognize the talent. And what's what's it's gone into it and everything like that but it isn't like my sort of Goto rock out jam out kind of stuff same with depeche mode. Although especially does have depeche mode was used as part of my adolescence. They were really big. They're all of the radio. I know who they are. And I don't know craft work. I actually just had to look it up. And they're like ten years before Alexa. They laid the found a pair I said. Apparently they laid the foundation to which all synthesizer based rock and electronic dance. Music is built so I'll take their word on it because I didn't so so I gotta give it to for those guys. I mean I don't how many they're going to allow in you know to. They're actually going to induct this year. But I mean probably sucks. I would definitely I could definitely see craft off work or depeche mode being in the Rock Hall. We're GONNA play another songwriter comeback. This band that tried to play after the last one but we had to quit arena me and I know this is the tale of two tales by shunned the Raven. We'll be right back. Talk a little bit more about the rock and Roll Hall of fame. Yes.

"Uh that is a gentleman named Caleb Johnson Johnson. Let me go ahead and tell you. I really liked that. A Lot. This goal you can go to Caleb Johnson official DOT COM John's band is trying to play and they aren't allowed yet. We said No. It's not you're tired. So we have shunned the raven coming up here next but so we read you guys the list of now. These are not the inductees these. These are the nominees correct nominees cracked. So these are the people that you could. They're still kind of voting. Decisions are next week. Actually fluish okay. I kind of feel so we will probably revisit this whenever the Apron. Yeah we'll probably be revisiting it then then a little bit but there's so many things coming up future podcast. This month include bands to watch in two thousand twenty. So that's going to be fun. And the Best Tours of two thousand twenty lily loves to go so that might be more like instead of ten twenty list so we. We're going to try to keep you guys this year trying to keep you guys up to date as to what's happening in the year music things that she likes to see events etc.. So how how do you wanNA start here girl. Do you want me to give a little brief history. Yeah let's let's take a little step tap into Mr peabody's way back machine okay. The sort of background on the rock gives us a little background on the rock. Okay Yeah So. It was established in one thousand nine hundred three by gentleman named Summit Summit teagan honor Digan Ertegun. Okay He was a businessman songwriter. Philanthropist he actually co founded Atlanta Atlantic records and was the president and the original team for the foundation included rolling stone publisher Jann s winner. Who of course? We're not a fan of rolling stone. That much I record record exacts Seymour Seymour Stein. Bob Kraft now and Noreen Noreen Woods and attorneys Allen Grubman Suzanne Evans. They started inducting the artists in nineteen eighty six And then of course eventually Cleveland be the home for the museum there. Civic leaders pledged sixty five million dollars in public money to fund the Construction and they also stated the reason is because is They're famous disc jockey on freed coined. The term rock and roll. Artists are inducted in the Rock Hall of fame at an annual ceremony as we all know generally early ranging from half dozen to a dozen and the first class of inductees January twenty third nineteen ninety-six included Elvis Presley James Brown Little Richard Fats Domino Ray Charles Chuck Berry. Sam Cook the Everley brothers Buddy Holly and Jerry Lewis with Robert Johnson and Jimmy Rogers and Jimmy Antsy were inducted as early influences. John Hammond received the lifetime achievement award. Alan freed who I mentioned. Sam Phillips where the inducted as non-performers. So they had a pretty easy decision that first year with WHO to choose news. I mean sort of a no brainer. All of those. I can say absolutely every they all belong. Absolutely those are the those are the the granddaddies great great granddaddies of of a rock and roll. Yes absolutely perfect. What more could you say? There are four categories though what are the four categories performers early influence non-performers and Seidman K.. So and I do have the criteria we'd like to go okay. So criteria includes the influence and significance of the artists can contributions to the development and evolution of rock and roll block approval. Voting is used news with those nominees received the most votes being inducted subject to a minimum of fifty percent approval around five to seven performers inducted every year and a nominating committee committee composed of rock and roll historian. Select names for the performers category which are then voted on by roughly five hundred experts across the world though selected to vote load include academics journalists producers and other others within the music industry. and Oh they say it's not about popularity ready record sales or which label the group or artist is on which I beg to differ on some of these but we'll get into that later. Okay so we. We have a list of approximately how many people are now. These are not the inductees these are the people are saying. Well we're thinking about you know they're up for more consideration. Sixteen this year we got sixteen. That are up for consideration As you read the list earlier well first of all doc we there's no definition of rock and roll unfortunately in the bylaws is or whatever you WANNA call it the the the rules or whatever that part of it becomes subjective. There's that old gray area and and those of us who have been around a long time have a hard time accepting certain artists as being influential. And that's the key word I think is sort of like the development of the development of rock and roll the being influential inspiring the next generation as you will some of these people just in terms of rock music. You know Whitney Houston's onto list isn't she yes okay let's just we're going to just start there. You want to start there. I'll start with Whitney. You have a little background. Anna Whitney Houston background anybody. I feel everybody knows who have. Okay let me get into Whitney Houston for a minute. Whitney Houston's amazing singer just insanely a gifted vocalist yes. She even sang some rock songs. She's not rock artist at all not even by any stretch of the imagination when she Iraq artist nor do I believe that she really influenced any rock and roll there. There might be somebody. There are far better female singers. That should be in this category. I think somebody has been nominated who I think. We talked about last year as an important person in rock. We did a Verses night we'll talk about it in this is. This isn't how talented Whitney Houston was. Because she is amazing vocalist amazing but she's not has nothing to do with rock music. Nothing nothing nothing nothing. Nothing nothing nothing nothing. Did she write songs. She sang other sort of doubt it. What you you want it might notes are great singer? Should you be in this fame. Maybe not their way better female vocalists that can be in this category as well. So this is where we run into issues When you try to set something like this up I think there is there is there are monetary forces at play because a large portion of the nation is African American? So maybe this is an effort to appeal to that crowd to make them feel included in the thing and their their tons of black rock artists. A UH tons tons of them I mean somebody like Prince absolutely belongs in the rock and Roll Hall of fame. James Brown of course Little Richard Little Richard Tons of him. Lenny Kravitz is Lenny Kravitz in the Rydell. I don't I don't know I want to say now. I might be wrong lenny. Guy Whose influence a lot I don't know if he's had twenty five years since last her his first album though which is sort of thing might not be. Yeah Okay Yeah. He's early nineties artists. Okay it was the okay. I wasn't sure because I remember years ago. But I'm sure it's been nominated. I'm going to say that that You could put Lenny Kravitz in their crazy. I I made somebody could chime. I'm in live and let me know. Maybe maybe he's already in there he could be but but but in any case in any case so I think that there's some of that That that going on as well you you know they're trying to you know we're in an age trying to date diversity all inclusive. Let's bring everybody gets a trophy for participating kind of yeah. Maybe that's what this is is this is everybody gets a trophy for participating as the whole thing kind of gets watered down. So I'm I'm sorry I gotta give like a thumbs down to know on. Say No to Whitney Houston Whitney Houston did not get my vote. Either do the public voting. Oh you do yes every day and it's just not if we're going to have a rock and Roll Hall of fame you've got to be a rock and roll artist or are you really gotta be like somebody who had tons of artists have come out and said Oh my God it was so influenced a lot of rock artists who say Johnny cash was a giant influence on them. Okay so I can kind of you know. Okay we could. We could bring Johnny. And maybe but Whitney Houston I hit the button on Whitney Houston again. We're not poo pooing on her talent. She's very talented she. Just this doesn't belong in this hall of fame. Shouldn't be on this ballots in our opinions. Whitney Houston gets a big no next to her name name in our show notes. So what you got next. We'll do from there. We will just kind of go over but I wanted to do something. That is just really kind of how far are we have strayed and sort of again. We're trying to be so like multicultural. An all inclusive and everybody gets a trophy that I think we are really watering this down. And and what I think it hurts. Does it really matter. No you like I love the music. I Love Lily loves music. She loves you know everybody all our fans you guys all of the music yellow. It doesn't make a difference. You don't like stop listening somebody. 'cause they're not in the Rock Hall Right. Yeah it doesn't it doesn't matter but sometimes it is nice to have other people in the community kind of like have a little consensus about like we all Agree.
