UFC Fight Night: Derrick Lewis demolishes Curtis Blaydes
"Let's go right into this thing. Let us discuss the heavyweight division in the ufc because it was on full display last week. It'll be on display this weekend as well and next month with the title on the line but let's focus on ufc vegas nineteen and derek lewis's incredible ferocious and absolutely vicious knockout of curtis blades. In the main event after a really strong opening round from curtis blades lewis delivers one of the nastiest knockout. You will ever see in the second round coming through with the biggest main event upset in the. Us's michael bisbee became. The ufc middleweight champion. A you have c. One ninety nine knocking out. Luke rocco network going to begin with you kind sir. Nice and easy your reaction to a massive win for derek lewis less than a week ago surprise. Surprise i guess is where i would start out. I picked curtis blades. I thought he would be able to at least take down. Derek lewis enough to win the fight and lo and behold. He didn't take him down at all. So that was probably actually the biggest surprise about the fight What wasn't surprising. That derek lewis after being down in the first round after losing that second round blades was doing really well on the feet. And then derek lewis just did what they're glues does. Big are uppercut. Is the fight so relatively shocking shocking result in the sense that derek one. I was fairly confident that blades. Who get it done. But not so not so surprising that derek lewis got another highlight reel nocco assay. We kind of got your instant reaction after the fight on saturday on the post by now you've talked about on the side but now they've had some time to let it all sink in and spoken about it on on different platforms. How big was this win. For derek lewis in the in the grand scheme of things that heavyweight. I mean anytime you win in the top five especially when the heavyweight title is only is within less than a month of your big victory. It's a big thing. I just think. Derek lewis is one of those fighters that he said it himself like the title is great but he's fighting for that paycheck. You got the bonus. You got bulbs paychecks. He's back taxes. Which is obviously still reeling from the massive blizzard. So i'm sure he's going to do great things with that. We saw what he did when the hurricane happened. Driving around saving people so For a normal fighter getting this big win on a big platform so close to not just the title fight probably another a contender fight with jazzy. No rose straight and cyril gone. They're going to be like. Oh this is great for my career. I'm looking at it from the perspective of derek. Lewis wear awesome. I got both of my paychecks and fifty thousand dollars more so yeah massive night for the black beast again. Prize fighters derek lewis through to be one of the most reliable prize fighters on the ufc roster. So yeah ten attempt forms across the board from the heavyweight contender to sort of build upon that jose. Is it time to look at derek. Lewis is not just a fun prizefighter but a serious threat to the title. It's not like he wasn't before but people always view. Derek is this you know fun. Follow on social media this hilarious guy this quote machine who can land knock on at any point of a fight as watch the sport at all outside of his fight weeks doesn't really care about titles but it seems like he's putting together now i know he's added some pieces to his team. You saw lauren. Murphy's husband joe in his corner who's excellent jujitsu coach in practitioner. His own right time to stop looking. Derek lewis as the funny guy with the with the best social media. Game outside of darren taylor. Moore is a legit threat to st bay francis and gado john jones. Whoever is in this division. I would say derek lewis has already the best twitter follow third. Darren tools jason lewis at this point. Because derek lewis is winning fighting and being funny darren till is only doing one of those things. So i i would say derek lows. Of course you have been taken seriously if he touches your jaw you have to take him seriously because you're probably not going to remember when after the referee pulls him off of you so i don't know the answer to this because we haven't seen we don't know we don't know that's like saying oh francis in who is putting together all of these this team to make him a complete fire. All of his fights are like less than two minutes long. So we just don't know for all we know. Derek lewis is the best gogo planet practitioner. It all of the ufc. We're just never going to see it because at the second touches you you die. So if you fight someone like steep bay That is obviously a master game. Planner i think that's better. That's that'll be a better gauge of derek. lewis skills. because we've seen him fight dan mccormick. Who is the definition of a complete mixed martial arts and that wasn't a great night for derek lewis. Yes he took that on like Real short notice to only a month after he got that beatdown he did win. Let's not forget volkov. Put it on their clothes until again. Derek lewis touched his jaw and killed a man on live television. So yeah i don't know. Tb all say. I know that's a cop out. But i don't think anyone knows i think everyone will agree with.
The Alzheimers Chronicles
"So this was an interesting week. The first part of it was really hard because bob was super sleep-deprived and it meant seeing him in a way that we were like okay so he's taken a turn and he's gotten much worse he's a further stage along the maybe what we thought we were like when a couple of days where we were like okay. So he's getting worse. These are bad days and then miraculously the very next day. He got like so much better. And that's just the disease and a couple of other things. It's a management of lifestyle and so much of watching this and keeping a journal tracking what he's eating tracking. What supplements were giving him tracking his sleep his activity what we're doing with him each day. Those things really do matter so much and it gives me great joy knowing that i mean our bodies and our brains like not just about bob but like our bodies and our brains are so finely tuned that if we do the right things if we treat them the right way if we pay attention. We can have optimal performance. This isn't just about him. It's like to me it's like. Wow i have to be more in tune in less lackadaisical. About like yeah. I guess that was good enough sleep. Yeah i guess pretty well. I think i took most of my supplements like it's making me realize what a humongous difference. It makes the fine details so let me share with you. What i mean by that so we had a couple of days where it was just so sad. I'm just going to be honest and tell you like. I was very weepy for a couple of days. Because i was looking at him. Not weepy for myself. Not we'd be burgess feeling so sorry for bob just like my heart was breaking because he is at a stage where he's aware that something's not right and fill those couple of days where he was really bad he. He was emotional. He was hallucinating however when he was hallucinating. He was aware that he was hallucinating. And he was apologetic and he's up so sorry a messing everything up aren't because my brain my brain So dumb you know. Like he doesn't know what it is but he knows his brain isn't working. This is probably a really horrible analogy. But have you ever like had a little too much to drink and like hits you very suddenly and you like dang it and like there's this moment just before you're like really tips. You're really drunk where you're like. Oh dang it oh shoot. it's come oh no. I had one too many drinks right. And you're trying to pull yourself back and you just know it's inevitable and it's this weird feeling where you're like. Oh man i messed up. I messed up dang it now just gotta suffer through right. I just feel like he's sometimes at that stage so we had a couple of days or a really bad really emotional. He was super confused. I mean just cognition was really gone zero short term memory and when i say short term like he just was repeating the same question literally thirty seconds later and couldn't remember anyone's names and just really anxious and the worst part of all was he looked so scared as is really wide and they just get the scared child like look that is so foreign to see in a man who was so powerful and a patriarch. So i hated that. And i made me really weepy. I just felt for him so much but that also inspired me to go. You know balls to the wall with my research and fine tuning in just like okay. What else can we do. What is why is it so bad these last couple of days and obviously sleep. We knew that had a lot to do with it and stress. But how do we improve this. Like what can we do. And you just have to keep trying and trying and trying and trying so knock on wood. The last three days have been in sane in a good way okay last night. No joke don't even understand this. He got nine hours asleep and he's different person. He's joking. he knows names. He is active. He's being cocky himself obviously. He's still struggles to find certain words and sometimes things do and don't make sense. It's not like he's got his memory back but you see more of him and he's not anxious and he's not nervous and he's not scared and that's awesome so nine hours sleep that's huge. So what do we do. We are experimenting with the timing of his medication. I'm sorry i can't remember. The name awarded taking right. Now i wanna say shoot wellbutrin maybe yeah a starter dose of wellbutrin and. We've decided that we were giving it to him. Maybe too late so he being too earlier in the day and thank you so much for everybody. Who's reaching out with suggestions. I really do appreciate. It can also sometimes be like really overwhelming can event for a second. Okay good if i get one more message from someone who's like my father in law had complete reversal of alzheimer's by we rubbed essential oils on his temples. Like okay. I'm just going to let that go no you didn't you know and if you did then you might want to tell the whole medical community that you have found the cure to alzheimer's because they get to a certain stage where there is no one who has completely reverse it. After they reached the stage not one person now. There are certainly been people who've had a reversal meeting like a lessening of symptoms. A slowing of the progression. And there's some great books on that but it just drives me crazy when people say stuff like that. Because i'm like you know what i pray to. You're not peddling your stuff to someone and giving them false hopes because it's just not possible like everything helps but like there's anyways i digress. Changing the timing of his medication helped a ton. and then with bob. It's the narrative you know. So don't ask me if this is like what really made the difference but we told him that our dog rocco who's obsessed with him is older and he's not doing well because he's not getting

Midnight Patriot, nation welcome to NFL. Mid Nitrates it is you boy spartan here with the the ever ever pot and flaming premix A good to have you as D to ultra. Sports nerds. In specifically football cards. On the end on the. Patriot staff. Phoenix tonight decided that we were actually GonNa do kind of a deep dive into what is pissing us off most about NFL and. Most pro sports in general to be quite honest. But we're GONNA focus on the NFL in this particular case because. Both Phoenix, myself have. A long history of both fandom and and. Playing Sports, we have a unique appreciation of what it takes. More it doesn't and how it is devolved into the into this shit show that it is. Just, we're just GONNA go from there. So Phoenix you had you had some thoughts that you wanted to start with go ahead. Well specifically. I I have a major gripe with the NFL in general. Being more politicized. And the. Let's End Racism. Okay, I get my left. Black lives matter. No sorry. They do and I agree with the message just not the manor which is being delivered. We've said that before on the organization go ahead. Exactly. All of a sudden you know we have a organization. That's Through much. Yup You can't do this. You know we have this. AFOREMENTIONED SCAMMED EMMA GOING ON. You can't do this. You can't do this. Well Yeah you can't. Okay. And then we have the social unrest of the nation being thrown into. A sporting. Venues. that. For All intents purposes let's call it. What is it's an escape. It allows us the viewer. Fan. That three four hours. Sunday evening Monday night whatever that. It gives us that escape from eager live love get up go to work and deal with people you come home you deal with cranky wife and kids don't listen dog that Shit's in your shoes. You've taken that away. And now have made it. Well we got to get on board with this. Well, we're relevant to. We're a large. Organization we goner? A multitude of platforms. That we have viewership. There any given? Day that we have competition So now we're going to. Paint messages in the end. We're going to have. Athletes will we're going to kneel to show solidarity. I got a huge problem with that and for our listeners I'm sure you have your own platforms as well. The American flag comes I stand for Gore country you back your country everything else second berry period. That's my thought on that. That's the way it is. Unfortunately when. The NFL NBA MLB hockey underwater basket weaving has become politicized in what we have to show solidarity with this. I have a question. Are you showing solidarity four? Message. Or are you As the NFL did let's put. The name of a known fell one on a helmet. Let's. Let's praise this guy because shot back when a an. Amplifier point in accused rapists. Is someone with a warning active warrants? For Rape Yes. So here in my eternal gripe with this, that will probably go down in flames just like the rest of them. Why are we? In fact. Standing behind. Someone. WHO BREAKS THE LAW? WHO does walk. Yes. They didn't listen. They got shot in the back whatever. House we say. Extenuating circumstances came to be that this ended up how that was. We have to stand behind this person as a form of. Instead of. Waiting, for all the facts that come out be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. And then move forward from there. Well. That's the real question. Isn't it is is you know? All we've seen is what has been allowed to be released. Okay I mean look I think in his thing I agree with everything you just said save one thing. Okay. I don't think demand deserve to be shot seven times point blank in the back now. Having said that. He has an active warrant for his arrest, what he should not have done to prevent that whole situation was to surrender. Get handcuffed and be taken into to engage whatever process there is. And what do we expect the COPS to die? I don't think so you know I'm. In the eyes of them, that's probably what they're saying. Well. Preserved by life fuck yours. Well exactly. The COP Exactly and and my my attitude would be y is either one wrong as far as you know, one one has a duty to behave professionally the other has a duty to follow the law. Or face the consequences you know it would have saved him from getting shot in the back if he had stopped if he turned around if he'd Toronto. Surrendered Okay Understand that I understand the Warren has has since been vacated, but that's beside the point. When a COP's his I warrant for your arrest I mean you're supposed to do is say what am I being arrested for? Okay I'll go peacefully ears might whereas my lawyer yeah. Instead, of no fuck you fight you tooth and nail, and if get away up the war still there, but you don't have me. Right. Exactly. Okay. But its primary. Protagonist, in growth factor was Colin. Kaepernick a few years ago and I don't say that in a flattering manner. Okay. I've said it before the my opinion that Colin Kaepernick is the biggest fraud on the planet as pertains to the NFL. At least Ryan leaves when he signed what Leash Langley, when he signed, he knew he was shit approved the wish she had any faded off politely into the sunset because he saw a gay. young just tell the story as I. Recall it and you you you feel free to chime in when you. When when you when you if I'm off base okay. The the instance of which we are discussing out my first thought on that was yes it's a temper tantrum and I'm about to be busted for having a temper tantrum. So allow me to make up some juicy. To Garner more attention to the fact that. This is happening to be Gimme Gimme. GimMe and I lost my starting spot. Well, that's the that's the point I'm making. He played the race card to avoid fight. For on professional conduct and he was he was outright given a past. I don't think he ever actually even actually got find something that was overlooked too is that is that nick is not a person of color is really not us he is a multi-racial okay and part of that find that he was going to get for unprofessional conduct was calling somebody else on the field the N. Word back can't say here because quite frankly it's feds even and number two I don't WanNa get show you monetize but that said that was part of that that was part of the fine to be levied. The fine was vacated. Okay. Because he was successful, you successfully played the race card and got out. Okay and this whole shift started this snowball at that point. as we as we all know you know he was he was basically the the the face man for chip. Kelly's offense that you know while short term short term effective was absolutely not sustainable. Okay. We all know that. And you combine that with the fact that the guy had. Just over just under a shooting just over sixty percent for completion rate. Even in that offense at his best day, he was a mediocre quarterback surrounded by a bunch of very talented people. Okay. So now it has become the fact that you know this whole narrative has has escalated by people that that know nothing about the actual game because. Football is simple. It's not easy, but it's simple. Is. The ultimate meritocracy. Okay talent hard work equals success. Okay there's a lot of guys. We can probably point him out on the field you and I. There's a lot of guys that that. That just simply outworked their competition to get where they are I'll give you. I'll give you one prime example and right now they call him the goat Tom. De. Tom. Brady was drafted was I can remember he was drafted. He was I. Don't think he was Mr irrelevant. But he was real close. He was the very bottom. Yes. Six he was very close to the very end of end of the draft in and he is he outworked is is competition. Now granted drew bledsoe. If people can remember back set for was not a very good quarterback anyways. He was only borderline better than Ryan Leaf and he went down Tom Brady took over in the rest as they say district but. No? One ever questioned, Tom? Brady's work ethic in those dynasty years in in in New England. Okay. Because he outworked he, he worked his ass off. Yes he was talented. Yes. He's physically gifted but that plus hardwork dedication to his craft turned into in the in the the hardware for the hand so to speak. and. anyways back to my point about Cabernet. All, these people talking about how Catherine doesn't have a job because he's bad for business or half rights, they're only half rice. Now I posted this to the page I know you read you probably it is I. Think I read this week we went to this is from ESPN DOT COM itself. Okay. ESPN DOT. com. The actual date this was published as March twentieth two, thousand seventeen. By their staff writer Kevin Seaford. and. I am just going to read it. I'm. GonNa. I'M GONNA. Try to read the whole thing. I'm trying Doug only try to read the parts that are relevant. But those those listening. If you go to our face, a bitch facebook dot com slash midnight patriots. You'll be able to find this article and we shared it the title of it is calling Kabir Knicks based problem performance. Politics. Day It starts off real simple. So Don't over think why Colin Kaepernick is still a free age simply put years have passed since he was ineffective quarterback he's twenty nine years old has succeeded in an unsustainable scheme as part of a well populated group of former starters who also remain available at as this week began now getting that was march twenty, twenty, seventeen. So they were in free agents. Okay. Let's. Let's move on here. It's blamed Colin Kaepernick's unemployment on his protest is to misread the way NFL teams make personnel decisions. that. I don't think there's any more true statement on Earth. Do you I? MEAN THAT'S Yeah. So it goes on protests where does say at any type of business that if you have lackluster performance, did you are guaranteed two hundred million dollar job? Number One and two I was GONNA say there have been divas troublemakers in the NFL before? Okay and Kim's and? Lewis Terrell on. You know. List goes on and on. And let's not forget the NFL is the lead cut an outright banned ray rice running back from the Ravens for domestic violence. Okay. Before he was convicted. Suspended A. Peterson for disciplining his child. Yeah for banking hit saw. Yeah. Okay for spanking his own child. Okay. So now they put criminals names on their helmet. so by but I digress I digress let's get back to the article. Just to just to go just to go. Teams are swayed I by players potential or lack thereof to help them win protest or not kapernick would be under contract. Now, if he had demonstrable if he had played demonstrably better in recent years. Let's look closer at where capper nick is as a quarterback and why that has left him sitting in a group that also includes fellow free agents, Jay Cutler Josh mccown Ryan Fitzpatrick and Robert Griffin the third. Again keep in mind. This is from shelvin teachings of this is three years ago. Okay. But. It goes on to some of the reason I liked this 'cause this is based on facts not just you know a bunch of race baiting bullshit. Kapernick grid NFL success came as part of the San Francisco Forty niners read Options Skiing Twenty, twelve to twenty four. In those three years, he rushed for Fifteen, hundred, seventy, eight yards which okay. I will give credit that impressive gudgeon impressive number. For. More than any other quarterback with the exception of Rush Russell Wilson Cam Newton so let's just call it what it is. He was third rushing quarterback against. It breath. Okay. I will not fall the net. His. Success. He threw more than twice as many touchdown passes interceptions helped him compile eighth best time quarterback rating in the NFL seventy point to over that period. But even then capper nick was one of the lease most. Least Accurate quarterbacks is sixty point one completion percentage ranked twenty third in the NFL and has percentage of off target throws judged on video by espn stats and information ranked eighteen. So. Based on just the stats alone he was a middle of the pack quarterback middle of the pack. Does that mean that he's better than half the other guys absolutely does that mean that that you know the drama he brings? Outweighs his skills is still setting the money in the monetary investment probably. Okay I agree or disagree just on that statement there. I would agree that yeah, he's a middle of the road quarterback. He had some skill. At. That position. That offense. You're right. Would it work somewhere else probably not but that's Changing teams, you learned their offensive scheme you learn what they do best blend yourself into that and you become part of the team not a one man show. that. I, mean you'd have to agree that most had coaches that have half a brain would go sixty, four, sixty point one completion percentage. even if you're even if you're going to do A. A bootleg offense even if you're going to do a boot offense. Play I can. Still going to have to be better than sixty point one. Periods I mean just entered discussion. Quarter, you're talking college level quarterback. Even if you're on a naked, do either one side, you're still depending on receivers tied ends backs to be open at some point that you can actually say, Hey, he's opened easel bewitched of the two weevils need a cheese her who exactly exactly union able to identify and hit those targets or at least give your guys in a position to succeed you know. I'd like to. Bring to Light I. Not Very long after capital started his quest masqueraded by some of justice whatever you WANNA call it only because he got in my mind and correct me if I'm wrong, he got busted out period. That's just the way it is you through Tantrum he got his ass busted will now I gotta cover with this to cover that with this, and then all of a sudden we have one big lie that snowball into the entire solstice thing that's going on currently. You're. Going to look they had to go. He ended up in Washington. In front of US rest. Explaining his side of everything that goes on great. Denver Broncos of whom I am a fan. I it. Does not get into that because. Pirate about that right. That's ultimate digression. Go ahead, John. elway. It had in fact offer Catholic before your contract. said. Hey. COMPLA-. Can come down because it wasn't enough money. Wait a minute. Let's look at your stats a sixty sixty point something or other completion percentage. Yes. You had fifteen hundred yards rushing, which as we've discussed is pretty phenomenal quarterback save. Russell. Cam. Newton. Maybe rg three hundred healthy. That's stretching it buttle throw it in there. Anyway. I. Really. Wanted to see if capital could be plugged into that offense and sell. Well, that's the that's the real trick. Isn't it? I mean? End and let's be clear. He turned it down because the salary was too low, not the money. Or maybe remember correctly, he turned it down because John elway wanted to load the one at the loaded up with incentives and say, okay, you exceed this mark you get ex you this you get what we go to the playoffs and when you get Z. Experience Cetera so wasn't of excellent. Yeah. But exactly to perform at your very best as cut your in the NFL, they don't take ship nothing while the that's when the NFL stands for not for lofts. That and let's be honest. It was not only. Did he had he had to meet performance criteria he had to me behavior criteria, EXAC? elway and the broncos weren't going to stand for this s J. W. S. J. W. Crap. That he's pulling. So let's go back to the article real quick. It'll it'll. It'll really start driving the point home. Okay. So I believe he started kneeling rating was two fifteen. So. Article Goes On. The issues that we were just talking about the increasing. Or decreasing completion percentage decreasing accuracy except sets. Those issues intensified in Twenty fifteen and twenty sixteen amid forty nine ers. Coaching turmoil in talent drain since the start of the twenty fifth season Kapernick ranks get this. Last in the NFL thirty five all five passers in off target percentage is off target twenty, two point six percent of the time which when she is the least accurate quarterback in the. League. As of the twenty. Fifteen. It goes on. Is Complete. Complete is completion percentage ranks number thirty, two at fifty, nine point one. He was still one of the NFL's most productive Shink quarterbacks, ranking number four total yardage over all those years but it didn't mitigate his passing deterioration and this is in my mind. This is the absolute most important line in the yard or ear and an adult. There is no more important attribute for quarterback accuracy especially for a free agent who is shopping himself teams with various schemes. In, the long term a quarterbacks running ability is considered a complimentary skill and one that is story. Fade with age or because of injuries, scrambling ability and arms drank are secondary to whether you can hit the target. That analysis backed up by numbers essentially wreck stay shit out of this current narrative will Cohen Governor never draw. Back. Dinners. Any beds no sorry. Have a fucking job because he sucks. Sex At what he does also, there's a theory going around the going around that it was right about twenty, nine, hundred he met his I don't know if she's still has girlfriend whatever evidently these ideas about radical justice one I'd ever definitely his girlfriend is, is some sort of radical s j w as well, and he was too stupid to either a lever to the side or be not listen door and just agree to disagree on stuff but then again. Go ahead exactly what it is. Power Pussy with exactly exactly and you quite frankly I can't fault them for that because you know that's ninety percent of marriages happen. We'll just we'll just leave at this point. Is that right there? That's You were saying regarding his ability to suck. But it started then I mean he the guy the guy got lazy. He got loud. Through the race card to cover his shit then he couldn't back up his mouth with performance. You know do you your ears? Rocco's fat okay. Let's talk about just a second. Let's talk about Shannon Sharpe just for ten seconds or for a few seconds. Okay. Shannon Sharpe. Is An arrogant prick agree or disagree now When I hang on, hang on that said. Shannon Sharpe liked to run his mouth about a lot of stuff at a lot of different times also true. Yes. Yes. Shannon Sharpe never failed toback his mouth up with his physical actions on field. Also. True. Unless I'm Clinton mistake, it have you seen the. I know he's A. He's a beast. His and by that, I, mean his physique and his skill level we're just unprecedented but you know I do I think running your mouth there's unprofessional Mind that you buy then back it up on the field nut so much. I mean. Go ahead. If I if I remember correctly now, remember this because there is significant events happened in my life sixteen nineteen. broncos are in the midst of the run to Super Bowl thirty two. Tonight game. In Kansas City in Kansas. City. I can remember. Watching a few days later because of recovering from surgery on. Shannon. Sharpe was literally being drug halfway across the field for most of the game by his helmet because he was talking some serious Shit Oh. Yeah. I. Remember Correctly Dr Thomas. If. If I get an incorrect Thomas Yeah. So. So pissed off the guy, he knocking, Kane insane composure in his professionalism in the game. You got what? I think. Say He lit it up. He was like Yeah. That's ten to twelve for. The Gargantuan One, twenty, one, twenty, six, and what two touchdowns. Yeah he was a month. So. All of a sudden sanders our. Love the Guy I've actually met him. Helvin individual. Love Tall. But he can copious amounts of Shit Oh. Yeah. Oh yeah that that man can back his mouth up. Oh Yeah. We have an and. He. End Let's let's break that down from an NFL perspective. So I'm a personnel manager. Okay and I have Shannon Sharpe as a free agent. His name comes across the wire I go holy Fuck Ball sharps available, and I already know that a he's allowed mouth be he likes to talk shit and sees extremely opinionated man but D-. The Guy Backs should have on the field I picked up the phone. I pick up the phone and say Hello Mr Shannon. Trump's lawyer her agent. This is me at the I would like to pay your your plant, a lot of money obscene amount of money to come help us when football game sets. Ended up with the. Exactly for whatever he was with the Ravens what three years. Say but he wanted them for four super bowl with their to. The argument that Colin Kaepernick doesn't have a job because Hashtag grace is complete an utter bullshit. Bullshit and the the fact that Roger Goodell has bought into this Shit Hook Line and sinker is even worse. Okay. You would think that that to be the commissioner of of a National League or National Professional Sports League that race in what eight to ten billion dollars. A year in gross revenue. You have. You'd have to have an IQ above your shoe size. Goodell even that these people that that they're they're professing to support. Social Justice. Wise. He realized that the vast majority of them do not watch the Games couldn't tell you five players in the league and doesn't even know couldn't name five teams lot I mean. She probably I mean. Look at some of the fan base. Did Not tell you the difference three, four, three defense. Yeah don't try to get him to describe the Tampa to. Exactly or various offensive formation. You're the simultaneous simultaneous possession roll which you and I can quote by heart understand completely. Exactly. Our guys we've got another segment coming up right after this brief break. Stay tuned. Midnight Patriot nations spartan with a shameless plug for our new gear shop shop. Dot. MIDNIGHT PATRIOTS DOT COM. T shirts, hats, hoodies, mugs, phone cases, and just about everything else in between we got you covered whether you're looking to embrace your insomnia, show your patriotism or make a liberals headaches blowed. Really, Shop Dot Midnight Patriots, Dot Com, and now back to the show. You know that's that said. I made a prediction in in midnight moment the last night moment and I want to run around wanted to run that by. Not. Only understand that the business portion of the of the game, but also the game itself. So this is going to the business portion now. One. Of the things that you and I both know is that owners very rarely. SAY WHAT THEY THINK Or say or reveal their plans in advance. Okay. I've noticed that the owners have remained. Suspiciously quiet. About the social justice campaign that's currently going on I do disagree with that. I mean like I said, I think Jerry Jones is really the only one that's actually made any sort of statement and it wasn't a very long. I ever Jones ever quiet. What that's that's my point. And say instead of instead of. Me thinks he protests too much. Me think she says nothing for more sinister Okay so I wanted to run this by this is my theory. Okay. Now we've confirmed the the the Monday night compal atrocity from last night. US. Or Susani from two nights ago that. We've confirmed that the viewership was down approximately twenty nine percent. Across the board in that double header. So if we take the two games Monday and the overall ratings of of being down for Sunday you're talking an average of of a twenty percent downer. It's one fifth of the audience of the television audience told the NFL the PISS off. Okay. Considering the the significant financial investment ESPN has for for the right. To. Monday night football. Let's just let's just call that loss unsustainable. Okay. So I am going to ask you to engage your owner brain for just a minute. Okay. So We're GONNA fast forward to the week after the Super Bowl's okay where things are notably notably quite Rosalie quiet. The coaching carousel began and things like that since. Day. Except that, there's going to be a rumor. Going to be a rumor. That the NFL that the owners are considering locking out the players because they want to renegotiate the contracts. And this will come as a surprise to dumb asses in the AT ESPN released. They're going to feign surprise. Okay. And we're going to start hearing things like while the coaches are not gonNa make anymore are putting hiring decisions are the owners are going to. Put a hiring decisions on pause for just We're going to review a few things and Blah Blah Blah. While then we're going to get to Russia's started free agency. And we'RE GONNA. Find out and it's probably going to be one of the one of the What's The guy's name? Remember his name. One of the reporters Schefter Adam schefter because he always breaks up he's. Probably. GonNa be schefter becomes. We have confirmed reports, the owners who are going to lock out the players affected nine am tomorrow or whatever. Okay. Now what's going to end up happening is this. The overall I would say, the overall revenue is going to decline somewhere in the area of twenty percent across the before the Lee across the. Across the season. Okay. Now again does just a prediction it might be higher. I hope it's higher until they stop dish this personally but. This is what's going to happen. You're going to get a massive ratings ratings cut. Even in the Super Bowl. Which means revenue is going to be down roughly thirty percents. Okay. What they're gonNA say is this is an unprecedented drop in revenue and the the losses are unsustainable. They're going to have to renegotiate the contracts. The players are GONNA have to take less money and this time the the ownership is going to be able to show concrete. The because of the drop in television revenue in Jersey sales and everything else. That they're going to have to renegotiate the contract. They're going to vote on removing Goodell as the commission. You're actually they're gonNA, they're gonNA end up forcing him out but the way it's GonNa play out this players are to get locked out. There's going to be a review of the deal of the of the current Labor Labor Agreement. The new agreement is GONNA. Have a significantly lower. Revenue Pool total that that the players are going to get. And they're going to have conduct they're going to have enhanced conduct policy which include the jewel stand for the national anthem. You will not hiding locker room for it. And you're going to we're going to not endorse anyone as far as any sort of political failure, your ideology on the field, and if you do not only will your contract be terminated but you'll be you'll be on the breadline by your suspended for a year. Now maybe the suspended for year won't come to pass but. Engage your own our brain for just a second and then look at the strike years that came up and you tell me how how how. Or how far I'll fight on that. Will. Allow me to. Dive into this plan I mean. Here we go. I am an owner of a NFL team. Meaning I have had to. Put Out. Let's use an arbitrary figure five hundred million dollars cash right upfront. Chooses five hundred. Half a billion. Cool. I'm. Glad. Yeah. Five hundred million dollars up front in order to gain my team have somewhere to play. The voted on passed and approved by the NFL. As either an expansion team whatever then. To, Cherry pick the other teams around here so I can build my team. In hopes that a I get a return on investment. That said if I'm going to dump five, hundred, million dollars out. A team equipment place play contracts that are stretched for X. number of years. This mice guaranteed this much at a signing bonus this much. Not. including the money paid to the team from the NFL for reaching a wildcard round, a divisional round championship round, and ultimately the Super Bowl. There are incentives paid to the teams by the NFL for attaining postseason plum. Yeah So that said with everything that goes on here. Currently we're martyring. Convicted felons we are. Using the NFL. As a soapbox. As an owner. would. Say? Okay. I can understand. The Point I understand where you're coming from I understand yes. Shit doesn't like this doesn't need to happen. It does there's nothing I can physically do about it personally except point out to you that you're not them. You are a multimillionaire more working your way to that point because of your talent, your skill and your ability play the game price. You as a athlete. well-fed well trained. Best shape, your ever loving life you have a house bigger than anything you've ever grew up in, you've got cars for days all these other things but. You need to remember that you are entertainer You're not a politician. So, that said. When to go into your point? After the Super Bowl. Until they actually have one right. That two weeks later, when everything's died down in the in the winter sprayed is over and losers or duck griping and the coaches players have made their way to their respective all. Wherever. That may be they're probably their private castles. Yes don't don't live in a castle guarded by you know dogs bigger than. Most people's. Cars. Were we will probably see as you said. Well you know revenue was down. Because of viewership is down across the board anywhere between currently twenty twenty, two percent to encroaching upon thirty percent. For Games you know TV, rights merchandise sales are going to be down. People are actively boycotting across those media and they're actually making their voice known by not watching. All of a sudden if we were to take thirty two current teams. And we look at. All the owners in this how much money they have? Now if we were to take thirty percent of total investment apart. As a conglomerate figure. We're talking a loss of probably and I would strong. Guess. Somewhere in the neighborhood of anywhere between two and two point, five, billion dollars while even go you want all you can go one better I think since the economy has basically picked up I mean you gotta remember the day to ten billion was during the Obama Konami which was one of the worst economies history. Okay. So that said you gotta figure that now it's probably going to be between ten and twelve. So if you have a twenty percent revenue law, if you have a almost thirty percent, you're talking about three billion dollars. That's a three billion dollar loss. So even if even if you spread that across thirty two teams, you're talking about what? Three hundred, million dollar loss per franchised. and. So and a lot of the smaller market. Good. So again, as an owner with Joan, arbitrary figure of five, hundred, million dollars starting I just lost seventy five percent of your or yeah of my revenue that I put into have an NFL team. Well, exactly. Well Number One and number two what anybody thinks that now? Okay. We all understand the cats at the revenue sharing For Those of us that are initiated, understand understand the the the reason for revenue. Okay. That's that's a given. Okay. Even still a thirty percent cut to that revenue devastates small-market teams devastate. Okay that's. Cleveland Cleveland Cambe that's Detroit. Well, I think Detroit is a bit bigger, but I catch meaning. into. Jacksonville. Flow? Buffalo Alright. That unders. Anyway. They're too big but no I hear you here's here's here's the thing the smaller market teams are going to move may if this continues maybe on the verge of bankruptcy and and if you really don't think that the NFL owners will lock out the players to avoid that. I just think everybody's so naive that they shouldn't even be a football fan you can. Football I in my opinion, these played the players and Adele are cutting the owners throats and I don't think the owners appreciate it number one and number two I. Think the owners are more in touch with their demographic their fan base style people want to believe i. don't say that they like their fan base because obviously as the executive class billionaires general ended the tend to hate working people or at least have a disdain for them. Okay. But the point being is that it's unsustainable model for them to go forward to continue this crap. Of K, it's it's absolutely ludicrous. So I think about beat that horse to death did you have anything to add on just on that? Final thought regarding that as an owner is a businessman I yeah exactly. Exactly. His businesses to? Yes he owns the team but as a business owner, you're always looking to. CRUISER BOTTLE BLONDE Increase but also you know they've got, they've got a commitment. You know what I mean I mean the bottom line is there are associated with raising revenue to pay Patrick mahomes half a billion dollars over the next. Seven years. Of. The point the point is this is that there are costs associated developing that revenue and win the players behavior or when when the when the the players union in the League encourages behavior that is deleterious to to that mission. Then what are the owners supposed to do? Gordon exactly. They locked the doors take resigning before we open this and then players you're GONNA WE'RE GONNA have to do a big restructure here. Sorry. You know this is this is not you? Not You know you're not this side of the world you guys are on the upper echelon. Of money you have succeeded in. On yourself up by your bootstrap for lack of terminology, you have made it playing a game that you love passion for three enforce your point duty not only are they a privileged class? Okay. Let I verified this I verify this last night. I made a statement that that. The NFL, the people on the NFL minimum as in rookies that that you know what we're undrafted free agents, right that are somehow made the squad, which is more powerful MAZAFA. A No experience. Rookie. Signed as a free agent this year in the League makes a minimum of six hundred, thousand dollars. Six hundred, ten, thousand dollars I then went to the Department of Labor's website guess what the average household income for Americans is as twenty twenty. Sixty, one, thousand, three, hundred. Yes. They working person would take ten eleven years to make. They're making six months show and this is not this is not an insult. I'm only going to use the label for for effect. Hacks in the NFL make ten times. The average working family does and they dare fucking lecture us about what our values should be faulk them. Big F what. Exactly. With a with capitalize all letters with with several exclamation points at the end. So that said I. Underlined and and I tell us is never. That's that said, I I wanNA give credit where it's due also understand that you know. What did I just go off on the NFL to you know to to to the end up with surprise we'll tell you why because You know even in the worst of situations, even even in the darkest night, there are rays of sunshine out gather are rays of light and I want to heap praise on two particular players, and these are the only two players. That I'm aware of have done this if any of you out there. Needed to midnight Patriot nation are aware of more please let us know. So we can give them their just desserts in their props. I want to give particular a credit to a hundred in the way of of the of the Pittsburgh steelers. Mr Villanueva is a former army ranger That said he made a big splash stirred shit storm by doing the right thing. I'm not going to get into the to the criminal that that the that the steelers. We're trying to honor Norma GonNa try to justify it didn't happen there but. Mr Vienna wave. Did something very classy He caped over the criminals name and he chose to honor sergeant first class all when cash. Now I believe I'm saying that correctly cut me some slack by brute if I if I. A brutalized his name that is not the intention. To say how I believe it's spelled. But sergeant first, class all, when. Cash. who was killed in Afghanistan? And I I, WANNA. I WANNA take. The chance to really You know he preys on on Mr Villain away for for going against the grain and for honoring in a true fallen hero on instead of instead of the criminal. So. Well on on that. The next one and probably the biggest honors of the latest give to the Jaguars tight tyler effort. I think I'm saying his name correctly also I don't think it's effort at the. But again, please forgive me if I've Jaguars fans if wrecked his name to. That being said that were I for also You know went against the grain he chose to honor the life of David Dorn David Dorn for those of you that that don't know was retired police officer. I believe it was Saint Louis. He. police chief Sir about that. He was retired police chief and he. was acting on behalf of a friend to go and check is Friends Pawn Shop. And he was gunned down he was killed Doing doing that by a felon in possession of firearm each shot this this legitimate euro From behind in the back of the head, which was incredibly cowardly act. ADORNS widow. was featured at the Republican National Convention. So those be the she told the heart wrenching story and As much as I am I gotTa tell you broaden orphee side, but he loved me misty. I was just her story about David's life was very touching and the impact on her family were simply crush. So I wanNA other drove I drove home the point. Your choice exact life exactly as what makes you? Exactly you know people people come from from bad situations and rise to great heights in as far as I know. This is the only country in the world that that can happen. Where you can make what you want of your own life. Okay. The biggest prison that we have in this country, the prison in our own minds. So A. Big Praise to do Mr Bean away and Mr for will done. I still have the continue my. My boycott because of my standards but you gentlemen have shown that there is a a ray of light in darkness. So Phoenix where you have anything to add or have we beat this to death. By by Pres for. There are people in the NFL that are serving of. Respect for me for one. Not because of their wallet or their house or their cars. But they chose stand for the national anthem. As. SOMEONE WHO Leaves in their country. Leaves in the American dream all though little hard to attain sometimes. The anthem regardless of anybody's political stance. The gentleman across the nation. And the NFL NBA MLB. I stand with you guys choose to stand in honour your country. That is. The way it is your will said. Anybody else wants that is your choice. I. Respect your choice I don't like it but I do respect it. But I stand with the gentleman who chooses stanton honor the country, the greatest country on this earth. Gives them every opportunity to excel in anything that they choose to? Like professional football or professional athletics exactly. I think it. I think it's worth mentioning here. I know we said we beat the source of, but I wanNA bring up another topic to. Weird Midnight Patriots all of us. May disagree with with what someone says, but we would fight to our desk to protect their their right to say those words. That being said I think one of the other things that the public is piss pot tired of is the privileged wealthy assholes. Being able to have different sets of rules at their workplace than we do. In the Corporate World in William and most smaller companies you do not have. You do not have freedom of speech. Okay. You will be shown the door if you bring up politics religion, etc etc. Okay. With social justice causes or otherwise. They can show you the door. Okay and I don't think I don't think it's Ok these. Use Their their platform on the field or in any way while a uniform to promote their agenda. Okay. Now, I think you and I would agree with this if the NFL Players Association wants to get together and host either a live event or televised event. when they are not playing and they're out of uniform. And they want to tackle these issues donate money to causes give away money whatever I think that would be a perfectly acceptable display. That's fine. Okay. But I think the reason they don't is they know that the cause is a loser. Okay. They're not willing to risk their own money you know to they're not willing to put their money with their mouths are in order to have their protests but but you know somehow everybody else should just shut up and and honor was they're trying to do and I think that that is excellent. You know policy at its finest end. America's PISS POT tired of turning channel I. think that's a big factor as well. As your thoughts unfortunately mean here to. Drive your point. I could see. Getting together having one big party fundraiser l. have running toe board. Hey, you know we're raising all this money great or even several. Yeah Go. But the reason but the reason they're doing it on television is because they can reach a mass audience all at once. But. They haven't had. They had the NFL network. If. The shows a winner, they could sell it to their to their allies in the media. WHO's to say ESPN would cover it. You know for God's sake ESPN has the SP one of the worst ward Joe's ever. Okay and if they want to go up to that into a social justice show fine. Go right ahead or create when like it again. Fine. Or if you know even Amazon or Netflix wants to pick up something about you know the S J W 'cause in the NFL an interview players follow players around their charitable work while they advance these causes grace go ahead I mean I think what they'll find his a there's no interest in be nobody cares they approach it that way that we far less backlash in their their incomes would be far safer than if they continue down this path. the ratings would actually come back to a more normal. That's where I'm talking about I. Mean there are only cutting their own throats by doing it the way they're doing it that that's all I have to say. So that's a wrap for this midnight. This is current odds. Tis a law fortified. And then there is a pretty good distance between him and the next horses. And the next course is there's actually a pretty good distance of who are a pretty good racer. Who's the second choice right now. It would be Santa Anita Derby winner Honor AP at 8 to 1 Authentic, though, is 9 to 1. That's Bob Baffert horse who won the Haskell Tendo one Bob Baffert horse 1000 words Who won the shared beliefs. So you've got those horses? Ahh, right there. All four vying for second choice in the Derby. Let's run from the inside, post position out. We'll give you all of the odds here. A CZ. They were 50 to 1 in the morning line. Number six. King Guillermo has been scratched. Money moves. This is the one that is interesting to me. Money moves from Todd Pletcher, making just his fourth career start. Was a 32 1 in the morning line and is getting bet. Heavy. Todd Pletcher's Horse Down 15 to 1 South Bend. I don't think all the Notre Dame Ah money has come in yet on South Been 34 to 1, Tyler Gaffney, Leone and Belmont trainer. Mr Big News. Gabriel Sias trainer Brett Calhoun 47 to 1 number 10,000 words as we said 10 to 1. He will not wear blinkers today 51 to 1 Miguel Mania and Chris Hartman is the trainer. Soul a Valon Day. Patrick being cone Lucas Panici is the jockey Volonte 29 to 1 attachment, Right, Dale? Romans 49 the one I thought that he would actually get a bet down. I'm a little surprised that that one winning surprise winning impression is no surprise. He is 52 to 1, the longest shot on the board. Dallas Stuart and Joe Rocco. In the irons, New York traffic 15 to 1, Paco Lopez and Saffy Joseph is Ah Ah, actually, I think he's gonna end up being like the third or fourth choice when it's all said and done. Tis the law 4 to 5, Manny Franco and Barclay Tagg. "Are you there. I'm always here Jordan. Where where am I? GonNa go fair enough. Well it's the first day of the work week was your weekend any different from your week. aside from not making this podcast not really. I mean. I've just been kind of cooking and taking long walks no complaints. Can you even tell days apart right now? No I usually ask about three times a day. What Day is it today? I keep thinking that I'm supposed to take my garbage out Because every day feels like garbage day now for whatever that's worth but here's a question. Have you felt lucky over the past little while I don't know about lucky of definitely felt very fortunate? I've been trying to look on the bright side of things I mean. I'm very fortunate to have been able to work from home as soon as needed and my partner and I keep each other company. Why have you felt? I really have for whatever it's worth you know when we do research for the show. I tend to dig into the worst stuff. The reports out of Italy Reports from frontline hospital workers in Canada and in the United States and it really drives home the point and this weekend we were reading and listening to stories of Canadians who found themselves abroad when Justin Trudeau said. Hey this is serious. It's time to get home yet. That's that's easier said than done. Yeah and I traveled in February and I think about it. Now you know if it had been a couple of weeks later at the time everybody said it was fine to go a couple of weeks later. I would have been in that same situation. Yeah and some people right now are stuck where they are and today We're GONNA talk to somebody who just made it home under the gun barely and We'll hear from somebody at the end of today's episode. Who is not as lucky? And she'll quickly tell you where she has her situation's very fluid So we wanted to get her information there at the very least but quickly for people who still do know what day it is. Can you tell us where we are? Clara's the quote Unquote workweek. What ever that means now begins while the latest from Canada's Health Minister Patty. Hi Do. Is that if you're back from a trip and you've been told to self isolate and you don't do that. You could face a big penalty. It is critically important especially for those returning home now to ensure that they follow this public health advice that we're giving them and the advice will be not just advice if if we if we need to take stronger measures we will and that actually happened in Quebec. A woman who tested positive for the Koran virus was arrested for violating quarantine order because she was out walking her dog. Prime Minister Trudeau says between Monday and Wednesday. There will be more than thirty flights bringing Canadians. Who are abroad back home. And we are now seeing the first case of Cova. Nineteen in the north. It's in the Northwest Territories. And they've now shut down their border to all nonessential travel uh some. Mp's are being called back. On Tuesday to adopt the emergency measures that were announced last week. Those include the twenty seven billion dollar fund for direct support and the fifty five billion dollars to help business liquidity through tax deferrals as of Sunday evening. One thousand four hundred and thirty six cases of Covert Nineteen in Canada with twenty one deaths. When you find yourself in a situation like our guest today did of course you second. Guess yourself a little bit. Why did I go? How did I end up? Here what could I have done differently? It's natural but I think you have to remember as fast as this thing. Seems like it's moving now a few weeks ago unless you are really paying attention. It didn't seem that it was going to get bad. And besides buck once. You're stuck you're stuck. There's no point in questioning how you got here. You just want to get home and to do that. You might need the help of the government and as we know government. Can't help everyone right now today. I can announce we're working with Canadian airlines to make commercial flights available for as many Canadians who are stranded as possible. Now we won't be able to reach everyone over going to do our best to help those. We can't nothing is really guaranteed anymore and so you take your chances like today's guest Jordan Heath Rawlings and this is the big story. Julia Morales is a student at McGill University in Montreal and today she is in Montreal and safe so first of all. Juliane glad to hear that. Thank you go out to you back your home now. Yes where were you last week? So last week I was in Morocco originally I was will kind of just traveling everywhere and ended up in ten years from where I was supposed to take a flight back to Montreal. Tell me how you got there. Why were you there? When did you go that kind of stuff? So Group of four other students and a professor and I left from McGill University on February twenty seventh to leave for Morocco on a geological field trip. We were going to go steady the geology of the area and sort of understand what processes lead to the current geology of the region and supposedly for two weeks however we were not able to board our flight out of Morocco because of travel bans that were then instilled by the government. What were you thinking? And I don't mean this in a bad way. But what what were you thinking as the flight approached? And you knew you were going. Were you worried Had you heard anything from the government or anywhere else advising you know actually going into the trip I think. Any of the stresses kind of just related to the usual stress of traveling. Do we have everything we need. Is Everyone have a tenth? Is Everyone have hiking boots Nothing related to the extra corona virus because as we had seen on government of Canada website about point. Morocco is very safe. There were no cases or I believe zero. The two case cases of corona in the country and Italy had yet to undergo this boon which we now have seen the past two weeks So we felt quite confident in going to the country and being safe in coming back. Tell me about when that situation changed in Morocco. What were you hearing? What was happening there so every night as we would have dinner we would actually go on the corona world meter website and see what the the statistics were saying about the spread of the virus and even until the last day we were supposed to be their only about. I believe eighteen. Total cases in the country So we weren't too concerned about our state in the country more was going on in the neighboring countries such as Spain particularly Because obviously we're seeing that it was exploding all over Europe and immediately saw that the political response in all these countries with started closing down borders. We started to get concerned about the fact that we may not be able to return but up until then we have not heard anything from our airline or the government in Rocco or the Canadian government. So we weren't we again. We're not too concerned about the idea that we were going to be able to come back home. Tell me about making the decision to try to get home. What happened and what you do that. Yes so we arrived at Tangiers airport as we were supposed to and as we walked into the airport we received the news that essentially Morocco was closing. Its borders to about twenty countries. It was GONNA stop international flights in and out of twenty countries and among those were Canada. Which is quite surprising because the USA was not on the on that list in the US has many more cases of corona virus than we do and at that point we immediately started looking for other flights out of the country and we managed to book another one through Qatar And three days later we were supposed to cash played. We found out that Qatar was also closing. Its borders and would not allow us to fly through there so this all began a whole spiral of trying to find any flights out. What did you do but did we do what we kept? Trying to find. More flights we booked another flight out of Casablanca on Foulon really quickly counseled expedia actually called us about like a few hours. After having both in told us that the play it would not be going out. We booked another flight with Air Canada which then got cancelled. We booked another flight through Royal Moroccan. That also cancelled we for pretty much just desperate to find anything that would get us out of the country so our original flight was supposed to go through. Casablanca before then heading to Montreal. So you decided to take a flight to Casablanca since it's like a major flight hub in the country and we figured that our chances of getting a flight out would increase if we were in that city and so we just kept trying once we arrived in Casablanca airport. We tried to make sure if our flight would actually be going out. And the people at the counter told us that they couldn't even find our

I Ju I find that amazing just amazing but <hes> yeah I'm so proud of what the Americans have accomplished <hes> I on the women's side naturally. I can't say the same thing with the man <hes> because I will make a Lotta little oh girls you know five ten fifteen years down the Ro-. Hopefully you know go out and compete with the U._S._A.. So it's wonderful wonderful record won four World Cups cleanly up America America is one of the top of the women game for a long time this competition coming about in Europe with the club teams like Sharon Tina <hes> having their own academies and they're all women team so I think may change going forward but software for Soga. We're speaking with Rocco Camilo. He is one of America's wealthiest men he owns media calm the fifth largest cable company in the United States he went to Columbia University to play soccer and to study the early one thousand nine hundred seventy s you know in Rocco before we get to fear and Tino which it was announced this week will be playing in the international <hes> Champions Tournament coming United States this summer <hes> replacing a Roma chroma which had to pull out because of obligations for qualifying in Europe <hes> you bought the cosmos a few years ago and I have to admit I'm a New Yorker I grew up with the COSMO's of play and canal you Beckenbauer and Shep got messing around and all those greats who made soccer in New York so exciting back in the nineteen seventies <hes>. Why did you want to buy the cosmos who were not part of the Premier League in or I should say the preeminent league in the the U._S.? M._l._S. well. I mean the cosmos back in the seventies was my team and I went to watch you know especially I giant used to be called giant stadium. If you remember those days right and in the seventies and <hes> you know in the midst also looking at Fiorentina and some other clubs in Europe the opportunity came about on in one day that last I came in due to salvage to cosmos was shut down and shut down for good in fact there was a competing offer on the table or whether the M._l._s. you know the New York teams and the members were by the club just for their name and and put. It <hes> and put the name somewhere in the attic for ways the Cosmos Stan would probably never be seen again so I felt I had an obligation moral one by <hes> to go out and see if I could say the team unfortunately I did dad and but once the team got going we got a new stadium <hes> to play and I'm so you park in Brooklyn shirts and everything with the team and then extremely well you know even though there was no team a month in the month of January February you know by the time we played our first game on home on April firs. You know we had a good team but <hes> you know the powers to be at U._S._F.. Realized that maybe it's not good to have this Rocco Russo or this team sixty and within <hes> less than six months they put us out of business you know they took the holy the N._S._l.. which was division to and drop them down <hes> <hes> to division for without giving media Bondi you know to <hes> you know to accomplish the goals that I'd said you know put a team for the League so I just I'm fortunate we could go on and on and on this we have all kinds of lawsuits? <hes> <hes> <hes> I gazed United States Soccer Federation for what they've done which is won't to favor one league person and my way since we're talking about the women's lay you know you should know that even <hes> the women's team with with the same lawyer you know my lawyer <hes> that's representing. The women's team is also suing. This organization called the United States Soccer Federation Jeffrey Kessler. Yes yes sir and <hes> you on. It's snowing. <hes> its lawsuit got started feel for months ago so U._S._F.. Is Getting sued from all corners even their own foundation so in them because you got a bunch of people that don't have their money at risk there there. You know to control that yeah no they're. They're activities you know without carrying about frankly you know the future of this sport in America the way they should <hes> the women have found great but not because of your success right because <hes> as we talked about title nine and the early success is the American women have had <hes> but the man have really not well including the fact that they did not qualify for the World Cup this year so there's A. A lot of issues in American soccer that need to be dealt with about on this podcast is too short to over. There's a lot going on but just briefly Rocco. Where do the cosmos stand right now they they are playing in a semblance of League division for when division for were waiting for you know resolution of the lawsuits of taking a long time you know we thought by now we'd be resolved? You know the stumbling blocks in between you know the way these lawsuits. There's a major antitrust lawsuit so we would hope the next six to nine months something. Will you know we have a better heading to go but it could change the face of American soccer and our guest railing this country to the extent that you know we win the IT. We're speaking with Rocco Russo. He is a billionaire. He is the man in charge of Media Com. One of the largest cable companies in America. He's the owner of the New York Cosmos <hes> as we were just discussing or what's left of them as they try to become relevant again in the conversation American professional soccer and he's just finalized his purchase of fear and Tina the Italian team would long and storied history why fear and teen of all the teams out Chirac. You're from Calabria why fearing Tina Lissa Jared Tina view probably at least by me the most beautiful city in the world. Let's get that out Florence then into the renaissance make the cheap the Gary Petach want me to mention a few of those so a lot it is beautiful. It's a city <hes> unlike like some other towns some other big cities that only has one which is affirmative club Torino and Milano and Roma and Jan Nova you know they have more than one team in the same city as phenomenal phenomenal <hes> <hes> a link between the city the fans and the citizens of of of the town <hes> what the team I give you an example. When I the day that I entered the city as the new owner you know in less than twenty four hours they organized you know get together and I thought they get together was to shake a few hands? They had eight thousand people understand singing and you know and welcome me with with an affection. Affection and warm that I never felt in my entire life okay so I tell people I usually go to the to the to the themes to cheer other people. This time was cherry me for what I don to buy Tarintino Tina so it's it's a club that have not won anything in terms of trophies in the last seventeen years <hes> and <hes> and I hope <hes> if they give me time to be able able to bring some wins on the protein aside and make the fans you know very happy is that they have an owner that you know it's more like them as opposed to one owner <hes> the soccer team we're speaking with Rocco Russo <hes> he's the owner of fear and Tina the team from Florence storied franchise which hasn't won a lot lately. He's also the owner of the New York Cosmos <hes> a big figure on the soccer landscape of the United States for longtime <hes> having played well Columbia University in the early nineteen seventies Rocco plane in the Ivy League back in the early nineteen seventies on makeshift fields without big crowd soccer was still kind of a curiosity too many Americans <hes>. What was it back then well you know <hes> in my <hes> first of all I had a we had a pretty successful for years? I had to put successful for years. Columbia are freshman team. We have freshmen freshman team. Stan would finish <hes> at the only ever undefeated untied <hes> record okay in a season or any team Columbia University my senior Co captain and <hes> you yeah we can qualify for the first time in the N._C._A._A.. Play offs <hes> talking to one of my <hes> friendly <hes> soccer player <hes> my colleagues riding the soccer fields is oh. Oh my God. I you know member that Buffalo State game that we went up to the Buffalo State to play it in front of five thousand people and we had no fence where there for we won that game right so those are my memorable moments. I'm my team. <hes> I'm proud to say was viewed and written in the New York Times the Ivy League <hes> <hes> team <hes> the soccer team the you went team of the Ivy League..
Vatican Opens Door to Limited Ordination of Married Men as Priests
"Meeting of Roman Catholic bishops from Brazil and nearby. Countries could prove historic the Vatican today gave the bishop's permission to discuss whether married men in the Amazon region might join the priesthood here's NPR's Tom gjelten all that happened today. Is that the Vatican said the agenda for the bishop's meeting in the fall can? Include discussion of whether some married men in an emergency conservative priests the bishops still have to debate the question at pope Francis would have to approve any change in the church's celibacy requirement. But just allowing the bishops to discuss it is shift from the previous attitude in Rome would crack down on any Bishop, any major figure in the church who dared to say the preschool possibly get married. Rocco Pomo is editor of the website whispers in the lodge. He is speaking via Skype here, you have Vatican document, basically saying, green light, you can talk about the reason being, there's a critical shortage of priests in the region, only about one for every ten thousand Catholics bishops in the region for years of said, something has to be done to reach more people Paul says Catholics who care for the salvation of souls, should be concerned about the plight of people living in these remote areas. They can't have a priest for weeks or months, which if they can't appraise that means they can have. Mass. They can't have Nash. They can't have Eucharist. Holy communion. The thing the Catholics considered to be the bread of life. If thing that keeps us alive. Spiritually some Catholic activists have advocated an end to celebrate in and the Catholic priesthood but John Gehring the Catholic program director at the faith in public life organization, says this situation is unrelated to that push coming, some, the church needs of the region affects on the ground on Amazon saying, this is an urgent crisis, and we need to rethink in this particular context. How we respond to it. I mean, this is not an advocacy group saying, let's push this agenda. Another point this would not be the first time. There'd be married priests. Some married clergy have left the Anglican church and joined the Catholic priesthood with their wives. That was approved. Nearly forty years ago by Pope John Paul the second and reaffirm by Pope Benedict. Still allowing married priests in the Amazon region because of an emergency there. Could set a precedent. Massimo fudgy, Oli theologian at Villanova university notes that priest shortages are developing in other places as well. Which means that every church in the world can request this Europe, America Africa Asia. So that could be the beginning of a general overhaul of the Catholic church is dealing with telly. A final point for hundreds of years in the early church priests were allowed to marry celibacy in the priesthood is what Catholics call a discipline, not a doctrine Tom gjelten, NPR news.

"You know, suicide prevention is a big one for me and not only for veterans for teens. And so I'm gonna be trying to create some some speaking engagements to be able to go to schools and motivate people and have them see of different approach to why that's not the right answer, you know, and taking that same jacket PROST going through veteran bases. Military military installations and do the same thing. My hardest to to continue to provide inspiration to motivate to entertain in any way, shape or form of that plan to continue to do so from through books movies television and through public speaking. And that's just what I like my life is what I wanted to be. I can grow all than happy knowing that continue to provide service to my community. Very cool. Okay. I and as long as you keep keep that mindset you put that kid. I know every decision you make be relevant your kid's life. Don't be a paycheck. Right. And just so that kids love don't ever be afraid to to be the disciplinary person as well as the nurture you can be both. But would you don't wanna do is be too much of a friend? Right. This this balance in how you raise your kids. They have to always know that your dad always gonna put you're always gonna protect them. You're always going to do your best to to give them the right direction, and mentorship. And as long as they know that long, they feel love don't be afraid as a father show your kid. Action gives a kiss give them a hug everything day. You know, let them know that it is okay for man to show affection as much as the woman, and that is important for fathers to know that and give that voice of strength and teach them to be to be a strong person leader strong leader in this community 'cause we need them. You know, I think you know, I'm writing a book right now. And it's really father raising leaders, you know, and that's really what we're doing. We as fathers are the mentors for tomorrow's leaders. They're still what it's been a struggle to nights ago. I told my wife like I've never been this stress in in disappointed in myself that I feel like I can't. Stresses me out in also every time you read it. It loses a little bit of its luster against in. So every now now I'm reading thinking like with the help wants to read this. And so now, I'm all the self doubt is hitting all the students are hitting me. And so I had to take up plays off and really reevaluated in. We're going back on it hard today tomorrow. I I sincerely hope you tell that little voice in your head to go fuck himself because I'm sure he's lying to you. Like, your stories, many, even if you just shared what you shared on this podcast and just the authentic nature of who you are people gravitate towards that. I mean, I know my listeners do like just being yourself. And that's all that's all you are. Now, appreciate for sure for sure. I know that what what unique about this particular interview as you're listening to this. Rocco? Drug me into my office at ten thirty on a Sunday morning to shoot this. Because we had we had some scheduling conflicts, and this is really important to me. So it's important to me because my friends truly mean a shitload to me like, and the fact that Rocco has a book coming out and has all this stuff coming out. It means a lot to me if you the listener can support that because we're all trying to make the world better place. Like, I don't have people on the show that aren't actual friends that aren't like sure there's an agenda here. I'll just call. What it is the agenda is make sure, you know, about Rocco, you know, about all the stuff he's been through you'd eventually by his book. Tune in the TV show by some beard oil. I don't care support him. But in that it's like it's Sunday and he's out in Salt Lake. So it's nine twenty five and being a good a good churchgoing man that that Rocco is he's taking the failure to church, right? What time of church? In a little bit. So it's up and go. In a little bit. "So it's really good. We've been really happy with it for for. Sure. Now rocker you've had. You shared with me in appreciable interviewed. I obviously been friends or friendly in our own capacity since since we first met there was a time. There was a shift like he went from the the, you know, the veteran focused, and you're part of a group, and you're doing things that are incoming a lot of different individuals and then throughout your evolution of your personal journey. It seems like you've started to just beat your own drum like the message that you're taking the is truly just your message. How did that come about? What went on? You know, you serve his friends in you have these goals in streams. And then as businesses start growing in his you as a person start growing and changing. Thinks change right. Like, I started growing as father said groin as a husband. I wanted to do. I wanted to be more relevant near lives in the path. I was taking with my buddies was really the opposite of that. In for me. It made sense to completely focus on my family in how connive my family continue to better community while I just decided I wanted to be more honest with my brand and I wanted to expand more on different directions. And so, you know, I had a health scare in that really motivated that concept on I told voice I said, I'm going to step back from some of these businesses focus on, you know, and there might friends expected that and and now focusing one hundred percent on me and was better for my family. My kids has expanded my brand tenfold, you know, I've been able to do so much more now because every. Thing is with with the passion of mine personally in direction that I really want to go in so doing that I feel like I've given more to and now, you know, have it's show on television. You know, have the book coming out podcast. It's just been amazing. Yet. I'm gonna pick it that scarred is a little bit more. Because some that I stand for Rocco nude I again cover this little bit. Appreciate interview. Like, the way I view this world for you. You had massive success like you and the guys were running around. And it's like everywhere, I turned at least on social media. There was an article and add like it was like the forefront of everywhere some really phenomenal growth, and that growth, you were present off in your own mind to realize what was important to you. And that was family raising children being a good husband like those things are take precedence even over the success of businesses like the extra adulation of either monetary success or notoriety in the marketplace. And that coupled with and I don't know how far wanna go into a healthcare. But you know, there was this almost a piffle. It sounds like two and a half years ago two years ago of what am I really doing in? Why am I doing it like? You know, I it matters. I think that's important for people to know like we all chase dollar bills. Like, I've been guilty of it. I've shared on my show a bunch. I chased notoriety. I chased all this shit. That really didn't matter at the end of the day. My fulfillment comes from going home. And having my bonus daughter step-daughter like sit on my lap and Rubio book and kiss my wife at a time that I can actually see spend time with her like fuck if the business implodes, I still have them. That's the thing. In most. You're like, no matter what. No matter what happens. What happens in life might my family is always gonna be there for me. Saying like I received fifty thousand dollar checks before. And I'm like, dude, this is cool with the, but this is not downstairs so kids. I've received thousand checks forums like hell. Yeah. Like, this is definitely that can handle a like, I think the habits Rabbin is when I was broke because you really start appreciating all the things you know, what I mean. I appreciate the time with my kids at pre shared their swords. Appreciate their homework. Appreciate everything that they have. And then we start making money you seem to become oblivious to all the little things again. And I started traveling a lot of started missing their sports again started in end like what am I doing? I'm doing exactly what I told myself..

"I to your life, right? I mean, you have four five six I feel like every time I speak with you. There's a new project like, bro. I got this thing I'm working on it. I can't really share it with you. Because it's it's crazy. You'll see in the future. Like, you have a bunch of stuff going on right now is a lot of businesses in a lot of projects that are in the works. Some are obviously minds MC right now. Everyone's getting to see been filming that almost two years. You know, that's been two years. Yeah. It's been about two years. We've been filming that finally everyone skin to see it every Tuesday night right yet. I'm working. I see that Rocco. If someone's interested, you can see that on FX right now, my characters name is Gili. I'm one of the minds MCM patched in member. And you can see all the crazy stuff that Kurt Sutter the writer in Elgin, James, the other rider have put together if your sons of anarchy fan this exactly right up your alley. So like I said it's Tuesday nights on one episode five coming up here soon, we have to catch all you catch even on Amazon prime it's beautiful. But you know, things like that been working on two years waiting. Fritzy, like come out. Why would I want to stop there for just a minute? You've had almost meteoric rise with this like Mayans MC is getting big time publicity. It's going very well for launch. Let's let such base on that versus even sons of anarchy. And some of the things that the listeners might have heard before. But this big it's right now, the number one number one show on network right now. Yes. Said like, it's no big deal. Like, yes. It's just this number one show overall everything it's my first show. Yeah. So I'm just like, I don't know what to expect and everyone's calling congrats on like that sound really cool. It's crazy. FX was incredible. With their marking marketing, his I've done marketing because they do the social media stuff. I've been watching how they do it end. Barnum in credit what they've done. I believe is really testament who why people tuned in all you had to do is tune in for you to get caught, you know, and you're stuck now. Yeah. Absolutely. And that's that's is that are you noticing an uptick in businesses. Like, you have a barbershop and you have a beard dot com. You have some big things that are out in the front know, there's there's people that that wanna meet to care too. But I don't think it's I don't think it's the Hassi. I mean, I still go out to eat notices vein. So it's good. You know what I mean? But it might not always be like that. If if this is I'd see season three four, and I'm still in the show. And I'm still doing my thing. Then you're gonna start seeing a really big influx of of the fan kind of thing. But there's a few there definitely go to the barber shop and what hopefully that I'm going to be there. You know, there's two year. Just because who I am. My need is jumped 'bout five cages from the show alone, which is nice and people get really connected to the characters on the show. And so when they get connected like that, they they support everything about me on my personal side as well. Which is cool. So I definitely see an influx in it's going good. So which can keep. In that way. Yeah. Tell me about you know, obviously, we touch base in the barbershop. You have a barbershop in greater Salt Lake City. Is that is that a fair way to say? Yeah. Dantonio like, and then from there you also have a beard product or beer, beer, botox like a plethora suite of that tell me about that. It's like a nail grooming. Product of a call. It's beer dot.

"Guide to getting shit's done today. I haven't incredibly special guest a guy that I've literally seen from over the past three and a half years. Go from really a very notable and recognizable face to exploding his own personal brand. He's got TV shows and movies in the works and been been on the big screen is a multiple business owner. This guy is fucking hilarious guy in a close friend of mine. Vincent, Rocco Vargas. How are your Rocco? Good. Good. And I didn't I can live up to that. I didn't your hype man, but income out Salt Lake and fall you around like announce you as you walk into places. So I don't know. I don't know if I've ever asked you this before why? Rocco like, it's Vincent Vargas where did the name? Rocco come from originally just a couple of my buddies always been kind of dad figured, and so we went out one night. And I'm kind of making sure of like a bouncer mixture, they're for them in the car on the last one in one out, and he said I treated him like I was found her like noodle Rockall the bouncer. And that was it like my buddies. You know, kid calling me that and it stuck and then we did a movie at stuck in. Now, everything I do I think in the entertainment world is kind of labeled Rocco because I don't know, man. I'm still figuring out because and the thing is my mom thought I picked that kind of nickname because my grandfather's name is rock are oak. Hugh, e will that use that nickname like nine no know that? So I'm my whole I've never had a middle name actually thought about making my middle name my great grandfather's middle. And so then it would actually all kind of come together. It makes sense. Yeah. So for now, it's Rocco. You know? And it's usually just an entertainment name makes sense. So say Rocco that in this you and I met gosh probably four years ago at Sundance, right? Was that the the first place we came across the other. Yeah. I think so. Yeah. I was there you had. Yeah. Go ahead. I got I have the picture. I'm going to share the picture of you down. I said throw good in that suit by chance you're like. Oh, yeah. Another I can't. 'cause I was finding suits not a small guy right on to sixty ish in frame sometime seventy depending and when you go to suit place, and you're just buying off the shelf, it's wide. And I'm like man this thing does not really it's it's not flattering for me. Because I need something that shows a little bit of the shape of my body. And so when you walked in the room Jesus looking this monster, I thought you were wrestler, bro. I've thought WWF almost dot EU triple h like an odd. Yeah..
