With the Americans Gone, Afghanistan Enters Its Uncertain, Taliban-Led Future

"Robin wright a new yorker contributing writer who covers foreign policy joins me to discuss the unforeseen consequences of the war on terror and the future of afghanistan as a haven for al-qaeda and other terrorist groups. Hi robin welcome to the program. So good to talk to you again. A lovely to be with you dorothy you. I visited afghanistan in nineteen ninety nine when the taliban were in power. And you've been back several times since most recently in march. What have afghans had to say to you over the years about the american occupation. Well of course. Afghanistan is not one country it is a very divided country by ethnicity and tribes bisect. And so they don't have one united view. I do think that at the time of the. Us intervention there was a hope among many maybe even most afghans that repressive rule by religious extremists would end. And a new future would include participatory democracy perhaps a decentralisation of power so that the the divisive provinces would each have more autonomy in ruling themselves unfortunately the government that have succeeded the taliban have all been deeply corrupt and so it was a very flawed democracy. And i think that by the end of twenty years there were many afghans. Even those who didn't like the taliban who were disgusted by the government and that was reflected most of all by the collapse of the afghan army which at the end of the day. Just didn't want to fight for the central government.

"And we need to do better and we will on. That means a commitment to fighting disparities and inequality in every part of the life in New York City, and that certainly takes us to education. Where if you're talking about The problems of disparity If you're talking about structural racism, certainly policing is not the only area talk about there are many areas to talk about, and education must be front and center, their structural racism, systemic racism. Coronavirus opened up the door to talk about systemic racism. There is no such thing is systemic crisis. There is no system you can point to. That's my point. People keep talking about it like it's a factual thing. No, it's not. It's a thing put forth by the Robin Wright's and even Kennedy's of the world to get to allow them to sell books and push this idea of anti racism, which is pure, unadulterated bigotry. I was part of an event. Online event where I heard somebody talking about anti racism. I didn't want to interrupt. Idea. I could have just gotten off the call at any time. It wasn't part of my job, so I was not one of these people who was subjected to something. In order to keep my employment as many people are, whether it's the Sandia nuclear laboratories, or we have school district's in San Diego a way to use here. What's going on? The madness in in New York with with schools I'll get into that. But the The conversation. Was about anti racism and they were trying to spell out what anti racism is. And Trying to explain what what structural or systemic racism is. And you were left realizing they said nothing. But there were people who are not in wrong thing. Oh, yes, This is so good. Never once asked to just make any sense. Asking if something makes sense is a really, really good question. Because it lets you know that your mind still works free. That brings us To this from Bill de Blasio. Has been so much that needed to be addressed in education in New York City, and from the beginning. What I tried to focus on was a very simple concept, equity and excellence that we needed to profoundly.

"Wonder woman I met you before. Come back. It's Jason and Alexis in the morning. I might talk. What a 71. I'm Alexis. Don McLean Grant all hang out with you this morning. It's Wednesday to Friday. Oh, it's a Friday. Yeah, and Kenny right now. He'd be so mad. He said Friday. He would be here. You see that? Yeah. Well, then I'm not gonna say it. I don't want to discipline Kenny. Well, he's no pretty much everyone, please. Yes. And And when he is here, please say it. It's really fun. I'll sneak it in the next time. I'm on a Friday. Perfect. Yes, but yes. Jason Kenny off this morning. All three of us watched Wonder Woman 1984. Now you guys watched it into increments for a lot of reasons. It's a long movie 2.5 hours. Yeah, Yeah, yeah. Yeah, We definitely could have been some things trimmed big time. Yeah, And so you guys watch the rest of its Did you feel like it maintained? Did it get better? Did it get worse? I can't remember what your first assessments were. Okay, so all right. I was hopeful and feeling positive in the first half. Hawass? Oh, yes. I actually liked it. I was like, Okay, There's a clear villain here. There's like it's feels like Eighties TV show a little bit. You got moments of that, you know, a lot more talking than I would have liked. And I hate any romance. So I want to throw all of that out. But the second half didn't disappoint. Yes. Now we did have some action and I will. I will say this If you're looking at something with a critical eye, and you're just, like, want to hate everything. You're gonna think everything's ridiculous. OK, so I tried to put that out of my mind because you know, in some of the action sequences, you're like, Well, that's absurd and bizarre but aren't all superhero movies? I mean, they all do things that are like that. Wouldn't you know? Like what? Yeah. I mean, it's just like to put more pressure on it. I just feel like you know, because are we doing that? Just we don't really realize because it's a woman. I just have that my you know, right? Yeah. We just need to sit back and enjoy it exactly, because if you look at any superhero movie, I don't care if it's Thor or Iron man or or what? You're gonna have things that are unbelievable. That happened. That don't seem to make sense. So s so there's that you got to put that aside, I think, but other than that, I thought it just went downhill because of I think I thought it. You know, when you establish your own rules in whatever universe it is, like, okay in our world, vampires can go in the sunlight or whatever it is, If you have a fancy, Cheryl, that you create you set your own rules. Just don't break those rules when you're writing and I feel like they did that I won't get too specific. But the story was a mess. It was a mess and then the whole I don't want to spoil anything. But there's an ending. That's like All right. What is happening here? I don't know how we're defeating this enemy and then it became very cheesy and hokey to me. It's just like time was like Was there a megaphone? How is anybody hearing any of how in like, like the way that every the world is put back together has to do with hearing a speech of some sort. And I don't see how everybody in the world is able to hear that. That's just logistics and just mechanics of something that I could not You know, extend my idols believe I couldn't get over that That was like, so every single person in every country in all the world that did this thing could put it back together and make it right. It's like a magic type of a thing that didn't seem possible. Right having changes of hearts and then in their language to that was another thing. Oh, yes, Alexis. Very good point. He kind of go back and forth, sometimes and And exit, but they'd still understand her in English. And just, you know, in general, like might Actually my boyfriend's son brought this up and he's 11. He goes. So when she was in the first movie, she was this age. And why isn't she older? More like, Well, she's a She's a god. She's not gonna age he goes well, Then why was she a little kid? Thank you. Oh, my God. 11 year old coming down with the truth That was like, Oh, okay, so we just stopped aging at some point when we're really pretty, But then even exactly the best decide the beginning. Seen some of the elders If you want to call them that they were older than her now what's the cut up? But they don't necessarily They aren't necessarily gods. They're just people. They're just okay. But yeah, that's a good deal. Great point. But that whole first sequence was that even needed. I'm with you. Thank you Understand? Oh, you mean the whole games and everything. Speaking of the kids? Yeah. Yeah, I think they could have jumped right into it may be done a little flashback to explain. The armor. But other than that, that whole thing just fell. And the other thing is those accents that they do. I look at Robin Wright and I'm like that's Robin Wright doing weird accent? No, it's hard to kind of get into the character using though she does, Sharkboy. Yeah, but what do you guys think? I kind of just babble there for a while. Yeah, I'm with you on all of that. There are some good things. Okay, so I'm gonna start with the things that I really liked. I liked how much she used her lasso. Yeah, that's fun. That was really cool. That gold armor also awesome Lots of great actors in this, But yes, the story was a mess. It's not memorable..

"Aspen Institute I'm Jane wells your host we're hearing from Ali su found a former FBI special agent and author of the book the autonomy of terror he's joined by robin Wright writer for The New Yorker and fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center moderating the program is my co host race Juarez to hear this program or any other world affairs program you can download our podcasts on our iTunes channel or wherever you get your podcasts search for world affairs that's one word and now back to our program along with the very real problem that must be solved about what to do with people who have been taken off the battlefield and their families is the real problem of assessing understanding and countering the continuing danger from an ISIS that no longer has a state if we were to ask if we were to begin that part of the program by asking where is ISIS now we saw with the Easter bombings just a few short weeks after the final towns and countryside the ISIS held fellow then came the Easter bombings in Sri Lanka what is the nature of the continuing danger where is ISIS where are the fighters where do they get their money winner they get their material in their weapons and their logistical support as we assess what the danger remains in the future how do we assess where ISIS is as an organization right now a Lee I think the factors that allowed ISIS to exist in the first and the first time it still exists isis why is the she did in the battle field and this is a huge success however the narrative the idea the ideology behind ISIS the social and political and economic factors that allowed the so called Islamic state to be still there ISIS today I believe is aware all cried a wise after they were kicked out from Afghanistan in the aftermath of nine eleven ISIS today's taken advantage of existing conflicts we've seen that in the sock hell with seeing that in now with local haram in northern Nigeria we've seen it in earnest on a very small limited way in Yemen but also in Pakistan Afghanistan in the southern Philippines they're taking advantage of these conflicts to establish provinces sign up for example is another example in in Egypt but this is what all kind of this is what car the dead after nine eleven of Qaeda switched from being an organization that only deal with people who gave Bayan they have a speech the strong structure and command and control to a message and ISIS now is trying to be a message and this message have a lot of people who still adhere to a to principles and to the belief both in a prison camps in refugee camps and around the world as we've seen and answered a long car recently and this is very dangerous ice is also on the same time was able to take away most of the money that they have so yeah the the the smuggled the money at two safe locations on ISIS still have really good coffers not as much as they used to have when they have a physical state but they are still very rich also they have people who are technically out and Salvi in using social media and using the internet and using you know different platforms and to communicate their message to a wider audience so in order to really defeat ISIS we have to defeat the ideology and the narrative that allowed to allow that to exist in the first place and unfortunately the show that we're doing today what you heard from robin and what you know your audience heard throughout the show shows that the international community is not doing what needs to be done in order to prevent an ice is two point or three point oh of happening robin Wright you agree is is Brussels not talking to Tunis and Tunis not talking to a robot in robot not talking to Washington how come there is no a concerted international effort to shut off the money to shut off the personnel to stop the same syndrome from happening again there is an extraordinary attempt to do all of those things in some ways better than we've ever done before the United States created a coalition of more than seventy countries and few international organizations that coordinate through whether it's in our poll just among themselves there there is a database for example that is been created that tries to track those people who joined us but it you know I think the problem is is is in some ways as is shifting first of all you have the leader of ISIS is still out there someplace Abu Bakar Baghdadi who was once in custody of US troops in two thousand four in Iraq he's managed to escape as have other senior leaders they're widely believed to be somewhere along the Iraq Syrian border but they have proved very elusive and he managed to get a message out after the collapse of his Islamic state I'm in then there's a secondary problem of what does the international community now do in creating a do you radicalization program or what the new buzz word is disengagement we may not be able to de radicalize people to separate them from their beliefs their desire to live under an Islamic state but how do you disengage them from participating or doing things that are active with particular the Sunni extremist are in movements the all whole like camp al Qaeda and that the "At six past the top of the hour on NewsRadio W F L A. So let me ask you do. Did you watch game of thrones last night? I did I did my duty. You did your duty first episode of moments. I've ever watched Gema thrown right last night. What did you think? It was very confused. You're very confused. I have some notes. Okay. So here's stews review of game of thrones. Okay. First of all nothing like good game of thrones music. No, it's this. This is about the level of my review. Okay. Good. Good. The theme animations really long really long. The leave is still going from the dot every morning till the story. Okay. So I can't came up with the cast of characters. All right, good. There's Blondie in white. You got uglier black hair woman. You've got guy with goatee. You've got guy with beard. You've got angry elf red hair woman and the boy band looking team. Okay. Now, if I'm following sure the boy van looking teen is the son of the go-to guy. Maybe not sure about that. I think I'm pretty sure that winter fell is a place. Yes. Okay. The go-to guy may have been the king of winter fell. No, okay. Well, he's not anymore. He was but then was not anymore. Yes. Yes. Okay. The north stop this. This is nothing worse. The workers than your review Rockin, the north might be the same as winter felt the same place maybe area winter fell is in the north. Okay. By the way spoiler alert here. Just in case we get into anything so far you so far. I haven't really understood. Okay. So my understanding now is that angry elf goatee Blondie and redhead are on the same team. Yes. Okay. Blondie seems to be like a Siegfried and ROY up dragons. Yes. Okay. All right. Got angry health may have been married to read. Yes. Okay. People seem a lot more attractive than I would expect from their difficult circumstance. Okay. Yes. All right goatee and ugly peasant girl, a hug, and they like the same sword. Point. Yes. Yes. Okay. Missed. You miss some of the new relationship goatee guy, ugly, girl like the same sword. I guess. Yes. Okay. So there's another Queen. She looks kind of like a female, Mick Jagger. Maybe combine with Robin Wright. Okay. Great line. If if you wanna hor by one if you wanna Queen earn one that's in line. Yeah. That's is that the Jagger look Chatterly. Yeah. Yes. Okay. So I'm right on that guys interrupted when having sex with three women, and he seems to be only moderately upset about it. Which I I feel like you'd be a little you'd be more. I pass though. So I that happened. Let's see really impressive teeth for the era. Yes. Something some guy in a wheelchair and the boy band guy looked back at each other at the end of that Cindy important. I don't know about that. No. No. Okay. And then finally. One point I did fall asleep, and I just woke up to someone being lit on fire while alive. Okay. Screaming work for if you missed game of thrones. Why even watch it? I mean got ball thing. And really who you nailed it. You're listening to Glenn. The. In February leadership institute field organizer Hayden. Williams was peacefully helping conservative students recruit for their group at UC Berkeley. "That is that's the basic theory. Yeah. I really don't believe that. I really don't believe that people people do things to get press. Not this something else is happening. It was I think it was an excuse that he needed. Remember, the initial thinking here in Austin was he was involved in some weird sex thing. And it was that. But I'll tell you why I'm still hanging onto that he flew into Chicago that evening from I don't know where but he posted on Instagram while there's only a two hour flight. But it took me seven hours to get here. I'm like what happened in those five hours? What flight was it was he really on the tarmac for five hours. Was he stuck somewhere else? He didn't Instagram anything during those seven hours that he's five of them that he's not flying. What happens seems like there's an extra five hours. He did something he exaggerate. He was stuck in he views coming in from New York, which I have to assume he could have been delayed. A couple hours because of that Jetstream incident which happened, I don't know. I don't know. It's just these two brothers. They seem gay to me. I okay. Well, now, you're gonna bring that up. I will bring up another possibility which seems to be what they're talking about in Austin, which and we have this situation. San Francisco we had a city supervisor who is one of these guys there are certain members of the gay of the male gay community who who who liked to get beat up. Yes. This is kind of where Austin was going. Yeah. So they get it's community. You said community. I love that. The getting beat up community is a community. I believe and they get beat up, and we had a city councilman here that would one of these guys, and there's been other ones, and there's been a couple of comics that were these guys, and they would go look to get beat up and have somebody kicked crap out of them. He was either just a couple of random guys or somebody. There's another gay guy who wants to who likes to be guys up. So that possibility is is real one. But why would he then pin it on a bunch of mega-guys because he was embarrassed about this behavior or no maybe that was his whole fantasy to get a. Wow, why not you're talking? Hey, this as long as we're hey crackpots my name, don't wear it out. Anyway, last night a bad theory. Well, and then we got the cut on his face up. Trump ruffians we got the cut on his face. He has to explain it. And then he comes up with the story. And then I'll just go report it, and it turns out the cops. Like, they take it seriously show me your phone like I can't show you my phone. Anyway, here's the wrap up for me. This was good Morning America. They was Robin is Robin Wright, Robin. Ama node rubber rice, the actress the Robin Robin who's she's a community member, and she interviewed Josse, and you know, this is the in depth interview where apparently he just lied. So this very upset this morning, and they brought in sunny hostile from the view who's an attorney as you know to Robin Roberts. That's her name to discuss this as a former prosecutor, I will tell you that what is very difficult about. This case is many many hours of of you know, we're we're spent investigating in Chicago is a very very this area is very very high crime area. And so those police hours could have been spent investigating police now is that they didn't use resources. It would have been used another homicides. But there are clearly cost involved here in any settlement would have to involve paying back those clean back those costs. And also think about the larger issue here, which is the chilling effect on victims crime victims coming forward. I spent many many. Many hours trying to get victims of crimes to come forward to testify against their abusers against their attackers. And they didn't want to come forward. Because people they thought would not believe them. They thought that there would be repercussions. They thought that there would be consequences this type of crime if true has a tremendous chilling effect, this this touches all the bucks. It does mean. A setback for race relations, homophobia, maga- supporters who the fingers are pointed at them. I mean, I cannot think of another case where there's this. There's this anger on so many sides, and you can understand why there would be if the best part still remains not a single one of them to. Wow, we have some part in this through. He has almost single-handedly had this chilling effect on the LGBTQ community on the black community on on communities on the guys getting beat up community victims and just they're already vis divisiveness that we're seeing in our country a deal in this kind of case this kind of high profile case, I think maybe very difficult to come by here. I think that's right. And again, when you watch I think, you're you're interview is going to be evidence in this case. I mean that that's sort of locked him in there to a particular account. And when you watch got it is so hard to walk. That again now talking about how anyone who would ever make something up like this at cetera. And that's what everyone in America's thinking right now is exactly what he said. Right. There is we we should be mindful. He is of course, entitled to the presumption of innocence at my goodness. If a grand jury has indicted him he has been arrested. No people are innocent until alleged to be involved in some type of criminal activity. That's the director. Okay, robin. That's how it works the. But he has never said he's still said he hadn't done it. Saying one thing he sent another. How do you get through that? He says she said look for Jacob evidence. You look for something that is beyond just accounts. You look for texts emails erase, videos, surveillance, etc. Assuming a fight though. I mean, it is possible. Tell me if I'm wrong here. But it is possible that if in that statement he gave to the police this morning he comes out. He then confesses and says, I did do this that could be the path. Okay. I'm I'm sorry on the community member. Let me go. Absolutely. If you take responsibility. Prosecutors always look very very kindly on that. I always did. But that doesn't necessarily mean you a deal it's still pleading guilty to the crime, you're charged with Berlin talk to the Brooklyn because of brothers are getting immunity here. Right. The brothers the police indication you didn't know what the there were saying that need a minute right there lawyers saying that there's no no concern. Yeah. Fine. The media is shameful here. They already were because they took it at face value. Whatever was on Huffington Post and BuzzFeed and everyone's in the blue checkmark Twitter sphere and all that. And I remember Stephanie rule crying on air. This is the worst. I've ever read. Bug. And just just to show you how insignificant this is fashion. House Burberry didn't think about it Burberry

"I mean, the weirdest thing is when she's like, why don't you just hand over your phone? Quick question Robin thinks like the police are trying to help you find. And he's like an I totally understand like the privacy thing. Like, they're things on my phone. I wouldn't want seeing. But like what he was saying is I've private voice notes songs that I've written. I'm like, I get the images like you. I got a titty pick. I get it, but voice notes, but it's like you're going to forsake your titty pick and let the perpetrators get away. Just because you don't want someone to see private photo. Nobody knew saying saying his private voice and song. But rather someone not here's his private Ivan Roberts is hurting. Oh, wow. Robin wright. And then and then I was gonna say, Robin MC. Robyn Lawley favorite the model. Oh, yeah. No, not her. Okay. Cops investigating tip. Jussie smollet was seen with the brothers the night of the alleged attack. The brothers who are being who are being questioned suspects in the attack. Chicago police received a tip on Tuesday that jussie smollet and the two brothers connected to his alleged hate attack were spotted together around the same time of the beatdown a tipster called police saying they believe the empire star with the brothers in an elevator at north water apartments where the actor lives. Possibly after the assault happened on January twenty ninth. Detectives were sent this morning to validate that tip and investigate it. They are investigating. It is unconfirmed. We haven't validated. It's like they are covering their tracks. Police spokesman said investigators plan to interview the man but later on Tuesday, the police spokesperson said in a tweet that the tip was falls on. The trio were not in the elevator together CBD has confirmed that okay? There's just all these competing reports what we know is that the brothers who enacted this attack in this attack allegedly. We're allegedly we're friends if jesse's F O J had worked on the show empire. Yeah. W O S T and had worked out with him in his building. According to Instagram, and they were friends they have been they were seen together a few days before the attack. And we're gonna talk about another one. I'm sure pretty soon. So I'm conflicted probably going to be a couple this tonight with an Italian mob on it reminder. We are doing bottom ten movies of two thousand and eighteen tonight. I remember when Netflix I announced they're doing original content with house of cards, and I was like no way that's going to work and they've done pretty well. But is some of this stuff is like net flicks. I wish it had an indicator for the stuff that Netflix actually bought in, you know, intended to air all the way through its production in the stuff that like some studio just dropped off at their front doorstep rang, the bell and ran away at two AM in the morning. I did you watch the last season house of cards. Watches, very, I think I watched the last episode. I don't really care about anything else. That happens. I watch episode and immediately I thought they shouldn't have made this didn't watch any of that last season. But it was it wasn't anything to do with Robin Wright as much as to the stain of Spacey just kind of lead me away from it. Yeah. I don't know. I was curious because I watched every episode to that point. I felt I needed some closure. The ending was so shitty. I'm not sure I think the best closure for that show. Just realizing it sucked after season one. Yeah. That's kind of true. I like the Arthur the author subplot. Horgan that guy could be in read-end movie over that actress. I'm going to become president kinda just sound like Underwood with that. All right. Add retire. Gotta get to an added read. We have three today as I mentioned some sort of live, Ed Reed. He's the just furiously typing fathers, okay? Right stalling. Again. Semi we print the news to couple to tutti capi. I don't know. But you lied. Hey, Mr. gatty gets news forces advanced and square. "They're empowered the water jets and David's room to keep him from escaping which was a kind of an early give giveaway that Sarah Paulson completely disingenuous about everything she claimed believe water jets 'cause there's no reason to have a like a super villain deathtrap to keep him in play. If she doesn't actually believe you superpowers, like, she says, you know, these are here because you're delusion says that you're you can't blah, blah, water, blah, blah. But if he didn't have superpowers they didn't need that there. And that's a tip off at everything. She sang a lie. Let's talk about the best part of any. Movie, and that's the women. Cast. Hit me. So so Robin Wright Penn still at this point. I think he was just rubbing right at this point. But you know, I say that I don't think I checked the credits. I think I was just looking uses call mean, she's not let's just say, Robin rights. I am db says as Robin Wright Penn. Maybe that's what she was. So morose. Ship was not great. No. I know she's once again in just that that thankless task of her only role in this film is just kind of a wet blanket being needy at him being sad at him being the reason that he gave up football. And now the reason that he feels unfulfilled in life. But then at the end of the movie like that moment that you called out where he shares that moment with his son to me that moment is I trust this. I don't know eight year old kid with my secret. But I definitely don't trust my wife with it. Yeah. And it just becomes this yet. Another thing that he's cutting her out of I once again, just don't believe in their relationship at all. But he looked so sad in in glass when he's looking at the back of someone who clearly isn't stove. Yeah. And then they pull the, oh, you're we sent your wife to a secret island where should be safe. And by that. I mean, she died in between movies that? Sparta enough to just not have the character there. All right. I'm sure I'm sure he tried to get her back. This real quick. Let's talk about the Shamal on cameo in. Oh, these films specially how it's handled in glass where it is not only the same character. But it's the same character who comments on himself in another time in my life. When I was what being a bed running drugs the stadium. I was I was running with a bad crowd. Let me tell you. So my point being I'm sure he tried to get Robin Wright involved in this. But she's like, no, I got Netflix money. Leave me alone. Or possibly United read a bedroll. Yeah. Exactly. Let me be involved. I mean, this is in no way unique to shamans movies. But he is particularly agreed perpetrator of the female character who only exists in relation to Ammann's pain, and these two movies like to a one every single female character is at Annan split to with the psychiatrist character as well..

"Truth. Yeah. I don't think. So meanwhile, she made the announcement on good Morning America. So that somebody who works for good Morning, America and ABC news. I think it's important to know who it is. You know, just to sort of judge the objectivity of the process going if I'm one of the fifty seven other Democrats who were running for president for the nomination. I'd like to know who it good Morning America is a big fan of Kamla. Yeah. So it's either somebody from good Morning America. Or even better. It's someone from the comma Harris campaign. She makes a big announcement. And there's this big pregnant pause with no sound, and they they like jumping and go. Like, please clap. There was much rejoicing. But what are the things listen to it? "Right at all. It's what moved me most about it is this portrait of this this family afflicted by depression, Robin Wright, Penn is the one, you know, part of the family who does not return in this film. But she gives a really good performance working with some. I mean, it might be the best script that Shamlan has written. But not a great writer. Right. I mean, I'm not I'm not kicking defenseless person. When I say, you know, as as just as sort of a an experiment in like, can you make a superhero movie on a community theater budget? It's kind of an interesting document in that way, and this kind of kind of retain some. Of that. What I got out of it that is sort of related to what you're talking about is it has a kind of a low key melancholy that I mean suffused as I. Right. That is interrupted by these very intense, you know, views of when you see the Samuel L Jackson character in some of his wardrobe. Choices. Thomas Jefferson, right? It's interrupted by these really cool images of that character. But it's all surrounded by this really low key melancholy. And by the time you bring in James McEvoy doing these twenty four characters any idea of low key. Possible Thompson, what do you think? Yeah. I mean, I think what you're kind of getting out. There is what I call the Goldilocks effect. You have three actors you have Bruce Willis not acting enough. You have James McEvoy acting way too much, and then you have Samuel L Jackson acting just right? And so when this movie settled trilled when it settles on Samuel L Jackson for a while. I find it I found it very intriguing. This this movie to me starts out kind of lumbering and Byzantine it's interesting and engaging for a while. And then fizzles out at the end. Now, one of my biggest problems with it is the same problem. I had from the moment I saw the trailer for split. The first time, however, many years ago, I cannot get past the fact that I'm just instead of watching a character or twenty four characters I'm watching James McEvoy act, and I just feel like I'm watching an actor acting instead. Of anybody that I that I can tap into. I just feel like I'm watching an acting exercise. And he does it very fluidly. He's a good actor. But I just I'm never engaged by that character at all. Yeah. That's I mean, that's such a weird thing because I've always had that a little bit of resistance to him. I mean going back to the last king of Scotland when when everybody was was praising his performance holding his own against force Whitaker. And you know, what do you say to that person? Who is unquestionably a good technical actor by any measure, but you can see the the cogs turning. And one of the things that's interesting about this too is business one of the many films that has existed I think regrettably that takes a psychiatric hospital entries at monster house. And so you have him suffering from dissociate identity disorder, which is a real thing that people actually have and here, it functions as a kind of a.

Assaulting and underage voices like all right hold. On let's wait for all the facts Right I just want some consistency now with Robin I'm with Robin Wright I'm one hundred percent right what Louis, CK shows, me though is that Twitter is not, real life for every Twitter troll. We. Have and we have a few you know ball headed liberal mica, or crazy. Bob that. Calls in sometimes to him yeah I miss crazy Bob Twitter's, not real life because everybody goes to Twitter and, says Louis, CK? What. A scumbag. But then he goes into. What to See at the Movies This Weekend

"Major league baseball player to get hits for two different, teams in two different cities on the same day he. Singles for the Mets in Chicago in a day. Game he's then, traded, in singles for The Expos in Philadelphia that night And this week in two, thousand thirteen. Major league baseball bands New York Yankees infielder Alex Rodriguez for two hundred and eleven games as a. Result of the biogenesis laboratory scandal that's your iheartradio weekend sports time capsule Rock on. Fridays we'd like to talk about movies Tonight at the movie See what's. Coming out, this weekend what's hot what's not? With Kevin car? Kevin, how are you. Man I'm doing well how? Are you doing. Today we're doing great so what are? We talking about today we're talking. About, the spy movie yeah the. Spy. Who dumped me yeah I'm, sorry that does not look. Good No I mean it's a. It's a girl that kind? Of movie you. Know what I mean it's abroad competent Upon The general broad comedy that that that should hit a group of. People it's about a meal kunas as a woman who's done by her boyfriend who turns out to be a, spy and she has to travel to Europe to try and finish his. Mission and she brings along her best friend played by Kate McKinnon There's sort of this sub genre of movies that are the the comedy spy, movie we did that with the hit man's bodyguard last year and they. Did spy with most of them go down movie was hilarious Yeah I mean, I actually kinda. Like these, kinds of, movies. Because they run longer than your standard. Average comedy but that's because they throw an action sequences in there and then this one you've got our chases. You got him shoot them ups you've got you know explosions you've got people trying to escape. It they have bonafide action secrets hanging out of a, helicopter like Tom Cruise was last week or. This week still but still Action, movies and their whimsical enough of a. Of. A comedy, and if you like the people involved I think we'll kunas fine there's there's some good laughs, in there Kate McKinnon I can only take so much. Of her she's great, on Saturday Night Live and five minute, chunks but I. Don't think, her stick, moves. All the way through a movie I. Think she needs to sort of revived room refiner delivery to do features right yeah she's a little manic for, my taste Yeah Describing are so fine for date night movie or girls night. Out, yeah Works. The other one I saw Kevin was Christopher Robin Wright with the story it has guy the guy who's in Star Wars. McGregor Yeah Yeah he plays Christopher Robin after he grows up and becomes an adult and he's learned he's got thrown given, away sort of left all the childhood things. Behind he basically becomes an old fart you, know and he's leave to reconnect with his. Childhood and so the was, like, hey go help me by my friends and they go up to the hundred acre wood and actually new McGregor does a great job in it because he's able to BV no nonsense, adult but then also become sort of get that childlike wonder again without seeming overly cheesy and, I, it's he's great in the, movie but also? What what really makes a click are the the characters you've got? These, well, they're they're not live action because, they're they're, CGI but you've. Got You know we, need a and piglet and you're and tigger. And you've got all the characters from the, hundred acre wood showing up and when they. Show up it's adorable and, charming, and wonderful and brings you back to your childhood the the biggest struggles getting to that like first half hour where Christopher Robin's not the Robin we remember if just takes a little, bit of time but you know when when when your shows up kick kicks off the movie, and, in your ass all the, trailer right the? Last time at the theater and I mean the CGI of bringing? Those, characters, is really really good I mean, they good, job with that Yeah I think this came out of them wanting to Disney wanting to do a live, action Winnie the Pooh, movie and they sort of did the hook. Thing you know that movie with Robin Williams back almost thirty years. Ago but I, mean I'd love to see more just sort of hundred acre wood stories with just a just. Toys, I I'd be happy to do a whole new remake blustery day for the big screen as a feature, film and I. Would I would go see that without a. Problem, now, Kevin I just saw. That I guess this movie won't get released in, China which if you wanted to get that Margaret because there's like, whatever how many billion? People what's the reason for? That I. Heard I've seen that story just because the Winnie the Pooh character is like the the sign of government. Resistance it's like associated with that over. There so it's not, like you? Know China's rule Do you need a better? Resistance model Simple is Winnie the Pooh.
