"Into training camp stuff the night tomato on a roster moves so they're down to. I believe twenty six players now in camp that includes some guys who are injured right now a shea theodore nicholas wa our day-to-day a william carey actually got injured last night. In the night's preseason game in colorado. He took escaped to the face which was obviously a very scary sight for a lot of the night's Sound like coach be divorce that he avoided serious injury but the skate was actually a Millimeters from his eye so obviously a very good news that eat up. The skates stayed away from his. I but the very scary moment for carry the rest of the knights of the guys still kind of in camp and vying for spots are a payton crabs. Patrick brown gauge whitney and spent bertie Logan thompson nights number. Three goaltender started last night but he got sent to the silver dance today. So let's get down to twenty six guys right now with less than a week ago to go until opening night so united things stand right now. Dave what are you can think of the the state of the team. In how these final roster battles are shaping up It looks like when you kind of sort of take. You know the guys out of the picture a little bit. Go player for player in what you know. What is the open. Open spots on the roster. It sort of seems like okay. This pain cramps make it or does bacon crabs. Not that seems like what it's really of going to come down to. "Tuesday at city national arena. But dave when you saw this kind of coming across your twitter feed just what was your initial. Take initial reaction. Will i have good online or for getting some like cell phone reception our however he was able to send off those tweets of from montana. 'cause i know when i was lucky enough to go up there there was not very Not very strong Why so good on him. I guess for getting out there in all seriousness. Though i think my my initial reaction in i'm gonna i'm gonna be real truthful about this. My reaction was why. Why are you thrust in yourself into this conversation. Why are you getting involved. Why are you causing a firestorm. You know a week before the season little more than and like it's it's got nothing to do with him other than like you know eiko and then and then here's another thing too is like there're all these rumors and stuff that at one point. The golden knights might be interested in jack. Nicholson tampering. you know like there's so many things to this where i was just like. Why are you doing this to yourself. Why are you bringing you know the thunder into your living room. The way that he's doing. And then i heard him talk and i heard what he had to say why he felt the need to speak out. And you know. I i changed sort of my tune on a little bit Get it much more. I get where he's coming from any feels lake. If nobody else is going to do this. Okay fine. I'm going to be the one and i agree with alex Because i'm the same way. I admire anybody that has the you know what's to stand up and speak out on something on anything. I don't care what side they come from. I have admiration for people that are willing to do that. And are willing to be the lighting rod in be the one to take up the costs. I don't know what what started other than he read an article clearly in that morning about about jack eichel and the surgery in the situation and as he articulated. I think a little bit in the press conference in. You're there ben. So maybe you can speak this a little bit better than i can. It's about the mental health aspect with rob winter in jack. Eichel here that that sounds like jack. Eichel is just getting to a point where he's miserable and needs a resolution in it's affecting his mental health and win something like that happens. Robin leonard is going to step in and speak up in. Speak out in if it takes him making a threat to the nhl nhl pa. That he's gonna start dropping stories and the first story that he's you know drops was the pills. And if he falls that up with elaine vino and decides that office just because here's the thing with that that's been for whatever reason sort of this lingering thing deadspin had a link to This their story occurred them..

"Here we go coming down in three into robin lehner. Robin leonard tweets. Robin leonard tweets. Abo- benzodiazepine robin leonard tweets about ambien. Robert leonard tweets abode. Elaine robin leonard. Freeze tweets about jack. Eichel where's all this start. It all started with jack heikal. I think this whole situation and leonard has been very clear about. This started because of jack. We've done a lot with eichel this off season. Of course we interviewed the doctor. Dr price mack. Who wants to do the Disc replacement on eichel. The sabers have so far not approved and you know last week on our podcast on the news pod. That was released seven days ago. We talked about that. We didn't like where this was going for the national hockey league that if they didn't find a way to solve this it wasn't going to be a good thing although i don't think either one of us had on our bingo card in terms of what he was going to do now and how he was gonna step into it but i think this is all about eichel. I don't think there's any doubt about that. I do believe there are a number of players out there who feel that the way has been treated not right. I think that they feel that eichel. Trapped that the sabers won't let him get the surgery and that they won't trade him. You know one of the things we talked about on last week's podcast geoff was that will this be a lost year. Will we be in a situation where jack eichel is out the entire year. And we're talking about this again next season and there were a couple of players who told me that you know they of heard that and you don't think about it because it's not your situation but then all the sudden you hear that you begin to think. Could that really happen and from wire stan. I i haven't spoken tikal. He stayed very quiet. I've heard that he and people who are close to him are worried about that. That kind of begun to filter. Its way through the national hockey league and later in particular felt that you know he had to speak up and he wanted to speak up because he didn't think that was right. He doesn't think that. I should face a lost season and again. It's the thing that we talked to vote. He was legitimately injured during nhl game. He was not injured skydiving. He was not injured snowmobiling. He was not injured playing pickup basketball. This is something where he was hurt. And i think all of this stems from that. That leonard took it on himself to say. I don't think this is right. I don't think that this should allow to be a stalemate. I don't believe that this player should be prevented from getting the surgery. He wants and i think he's also saying that the fact that he might not be able to get surgery and he might not be able to get traded. He doesn't believe that's right. And i think that's where it all started from leonard. Took it upon himself as a former teammate of vehicles and just a person. I guess to say this isn't right. This isn't right but this is something that is a cb issue. This is something that the players association doesn't hold jurisdiction over generally. I agree with you. You're right. I think one of the things. This kind of been going on quietly is that there have been conversations about you know that passage and what it might actually mean and should the players association arbitrate it and they might lose and there are some lawyers who say to me. They think that they would lose. But even if the players association arbitrated it's not a short process and it doesn't really help. I go now and i think that's kind of where we are is what leonard saying and i think what i in those around him feel is. How can we fix this in the short term. One of the things that. I've been kinda hearing is i have heard his agents it. Seeing now pat persona j. p. berry like that group has had two very big files over the last few weeks. Yes one of them is vancouver. Using patterson they represent both and the other is now acl who they represent. Newly and i've heard they've been grinding away at. How do we solve this problem. The sabers and i checked this last week. The savers as of the middle of last week had not given permission for articles medical information to be shared. But what. I think they're trying to do is with everything that they're allowed to do every way that they are allowed to do this. They are trying to inch forward. They have taken aigle to other specialists. They are trying to educate on the disc replacement they are trying to make teams comfortable with potentially making a trade for acl. They won't comment on this. Because it's really sensitive. You'll this whole buffalo situation jeff. You know what it is and everybody listening to. This can understand this. Take a partner that you've had in your life husband wife boyfriend girlfriend partner. Whatever it is someone that you really loved and you really thought that you were going somewhere with and all the sudden you break up and it gets really nasty and ugly. Every single one of us has gone through except for jeff because he's the true heartbreaker and he never has feelings lance romance here but everybody out there is had that and with eichel. The sabers saw eichel as their leader to a new era that he was going to be the cornerstone of the new group of the news savers. And it's gone badly. And i think this goes above kevin adams i think this is the ownership level and i think they are sort of like the lover that really believed in this relationship and they weren't the ones who called it off and here we are. That happens like we've all seen that happen our lives and you know i think it's colored the whole situation. I this is why. I say jeff that like we said last week the nhl is going to negotiate the out here. Because this isn't good for anyone. So i'm of the firm firm belief and i think it sounds like you are as well that the hulas had a. Don't worry jack gonna make this thing right eventually.

"Because some people you steve corrals a great example but some people i feel like never get out of the example. It's another example of can't get out of a certain role like the guys on friends like today ever do anything now. The argument is if you're on a show that's so successful where you end up not really being able to do anything after like you're making so much money maybe you don't care but also as an actor or actress it's gotta be kinda hard after to realize that you're never gonna get out of that jerry. Seinfeld would be a good. Yeah but he was a comedian. He was different. And i think it depends. What your aspirations because the the woman grazing grey's anatomy that what's her name from everett. What's her name Ellen pale like she was in a few movies she was an old school and then she got an a grey's anatomy like she realized. I can make wayball money at grey's anatomy. I might not get the roles i want. I can have a position of power hair and make like ten million dollars an episode and be a producer. And that's what she decided to do. She basically like throughout any potential acting career. She might have the movies to focus on making good ones who got carlton. Yeah like yeah he never or how about like fred dancing and i know he's been on other things but he was so good as sam malone and like was he was he somebody. Yeah somebody that could have had like an amazing acting career. Never really did. I mean. I think he had a pretty good tv career. Obviously you mentioned cheers Sim along but then he did that. Show backup which. I wasn't necessarily a fan of but he. He was pretty popular on that then. The recent was a good place he was on the curb your enthusiasm to as a good as himself which is funny and he did. That other sean. Each bureau fact the name but escapes me is it. God i with jason nothing. Yeah he said screech. I mean even alive. I don't think ted danson got pigeonholed. I think he actually did better than most guys do. Who have like an iconic role. I doubt like he'd do it. Sam malone he was able to go out and do two or three other oils that maybe people know him by other than symbol on. What about adrian. Grain from entourage. Off isn't there's one. There's one g is buzzing. Yeah there's a guy like i don't know is it. Because of his entourage success and people gnome as vince or is it that he wasn't that good of an actor might be the latter. I think like i. I don't think the acting was that great. And yeah he he he i. He's on some entre child. Netflix show right now called Aid but yeah. I don't think he was the strongest actor on that show so like they might not have been beat down as dork. I mean you look at so many iconic shows like something like the wire that's one of the best shows ever but people have beaten down everyone's door like oh you're on this show by come on our show it's like there's a lot of flashes in the pan of i. I mean even aaron paul. Let's bring up. Aaron paul dom science jesse jesse on the bad jesse pink. Now you know he's been in a couple of movies he's been. He's got some other roles but like he hasn't done anything to make you think of as he ping since he played. Jesse i mean if that's the worst thing that was you'd see a grave. Is you play this iconic tv show. It's not a bad thing. But i think as active they wanna like illegal something else in you in a way similar athletics where you can kind of go from being the top dog on the biggest show ever and all of a sudden you kinda got nothing going on definitely. It must be a bizarre feeling for these guys. Yeah yeah absolutely. It's it's tough. It's a tough business. I know people all those easier. It's like it's it's hard work if you're not good at it. It's real hard work to do. And these people are guaranteed jobs men. There's a lot of working class actors that you know they get a job to three. Yeah but they they can stay still going to pay bills. The vast majority of actors are not making a lot of money. There's one for you. Fez from that. Seventies show god he got t- still dine out on all the fuck an asi got. I think which was says. He was the funny one when they would always do the roundtable he would say the ridiculous shit. The guy who would wear the sunglasses the hispanic hispanic guy. Yeah the saw. Yeah yeah yeah. What wilmer wilder omarosa. Yeah yeah that guy had like a jeeter like dating Like pool animal. Yeah he had a bunch of different rockets. Yeah he was savage hosted that show yo mama on mtv where they would make just like your momma jokes for like two or yeah. That was bar roots secretly. Loved speaking a show free brittany documentary dropping tuesday when this comes out. We're recording this monday. That is going to be a banger. So all the behind the scenes bullshit this that her Family put her through in order to keep her in this conservative ship. So i cannot wait to see that and one other thing i had written down. Here's mcgregor's first. Pitch there for the cubs. Game are these. Are these guys fucking trying to pitch it like shit. This has to be like an attentional thing. So i think he tried to throw it as hard as possible and do they play baseball in ireland. Like he doesn't even know how to throw the ball correctly. I mean come on man the guys fuck. He was a ufc champion. You're telling me these guys dude. I think you'd be surprised at athletic people never played baseball. Like don't know how to throw a ball. I think guys in the nhl that if you throw them throw a baseball you'd be shocked. Let me ask you this. Do you think that if if somebody hands you a ball no blow up no nothing. You can't even practice going into it. You can throw a strike from the top of the mound. No i can't i i. I think that. I think i if i could off i mean i was a big leftie. Try through gas. Do nice curb ause. Money tells like twelve. And let me tell you. I would not feel confident. Throwing strike president bush's nine eleven first pitch greatest first-pitch all time was a perfect strike. I don't know man if i took a lot off it. Maybe i can get over the plate. But i would not be confidence farther away. You think are the first pitch once on a little spinners game. How'd you do throughout the first pitch wrote. I was walking literally game. T-ball often. I was walking in and they said that the guy cancelled that day. I was wearing a red sox. Shirk they were like come. Throw out the first pitch ended up throwing a strike. Right down the middle. I wanna see video of this. Ra done on the actors who can't get out of the roles conversation or did you have any other any other things to chime in on. That already. never got anything after being the cook. That's true man. I love being a cook. Funny did i did get one of those emails. I told you. I'm a member that cast in place where they i'm on file so if someone sees me and they might wanna use me. I'll get like a special email because the film movie around here next month but i- i replied they haven't heard back yet so i don't know if i'm gonna will. They should make like an ocean. Thirteen style a like a film about a guy who sneaks into sporting events and maybe ra could play himself. Yeah see i. I wouldn't tell people about it so i don't know he can make that movie. That's all key when you do that. Shit you keep you fucking mulch shut so you can keep getting away with it not tell walsum and look for it while posher did but it was just too bad that we did of passionate commun- drink cup posher socket..

"Kenny volun- said. Hopefully he'll get better hate to hear anything like that especially with the ticker pittsburgh. Gm ron hextall said of gunning malcolm is gonna miss the first two months of the season so said in gino bulfield dot obviously keep note of that began when corner league starts berry. Can i hop in here. Quick again talk wit word. Is pittsburgh goal from here. Like i'm not saying. Hit the panic button button by any regards. Like that's a very very difficult division now like even new jersey's not a push over a good start to the season is going to be very important. So they're out with said who they said. He's gonna miss mac six weeks and then they got genaro lineup thankfully ended up trading for jeff carter. Who's going to be strength at center in their absence. But like like do you think they're gonna make playoffs ashir. I don't know it could be a real struggle for them. And i actually read some tweets from raw rossi. Who's a he's been on. The penguins like bead and pittsburgh sports for twenty years. Now i think and he said there prospect pipeline is absolutely bone-dry is said there's not much there and so i don't really know i mean this is what happens when you have such good team for so long. If sydney gino on the lineup. Everything's a different story. But with them out. Are they going to be able to win. Games in unreal to score at all so it. They're going to need goaltending and team defense until they get those guys back. Even jeff carter. It's off enough right. If he's up there alone. I line center and then after that you're mixing and matching guys who never really played that role so i i was on the mark man show and he asked me that exact question that are they gonna make playoffs and like where do they go from here. Mind you the year. They ended up winning. I wanna say their second cup. La- tang was injured. They did not have a at least on paper very good background. I think doom lynn might have been their best defender. That was when ian call had a big big playoff run but what they did is they. Got goaltending from murray. Let's see what jari can do. I i love a comeback story. Did not have another playoff last year. But if they're able to keep afloat and then they get. Sid gino and carter at third line center. I mean that's kind of kind of what they had when they won that second second cup so i guess you can never count them out. But i mean this is. The years are dwindling here for their for their window. So like darren drager said crosby. the avalanche. much y'all's mike kaufman. He filled his physical as well. He could be up to four weeks. Of course he sent three thirteen point. Five million dollars montreal so they wanna get healthy so you can get paid washington. They unveiled the first. Nhl jersey with an ad on it. it's not gonna take effect until next year they're going to have The rival gambling company will be on the home jerseys their arrival companies. So we're not going to hit an name but they they're gonna have a logo on the right above the right titi. But they're the first team to acknowledge having advertisements on the jersey. So that's why we're reporting it. That's all i said above the ray titi because teams pollock. They might have diagnosed so they don't know each team's going to be able to decide where the ad is to be like three by three and a half inches. It's gotta be the hero here. So i'm like the rangers where the diagonal letter and you know. We'll have to go on the opposite side. Get rid of the spoke. Be for the bruins. We can get an extra fifty k. If you just put the ad in the middle of the chest. Don't worry about the logo in one last one before we send it over to robin leno. the cross-check enrolls it's one of these situations. Where the league's like. Oh we're going to crack down on it and it basically just sounds like they're gonna enforce rules that have already been on the books for the last one hundred years. I dunno if you guys remember the lockout in two thousand five all they did was just call the the rules that were already on the books in just enforced a lot more so it just seems like that's all they're going to do as our crowley so they're going to enforce it in preseason and after weeks of the season it's going to be back to normal i think i honestly think ben emphasizing this rule going in has everything to do with mayfield taken out one of kucherov ribs in that conference final just. There's no consistent standard paul way like some game. Some guys hit a guy to three four times. Nothing happens and the retaliation gets called. All a guy hits the second one third of there's just no consistency on it. So i think if you call that first fucking crosscheck guys are going to adapt you know i. I think i mean sixteen years later right when they when they cracked down on all the obstruction holden an obstruction hook. And anytime guy takes his stick off. I'm sorry his hand office stick in the offensive zone and grabs a guy. It's an automatic penalty. I think it's pretty much. The last fifteen years ref automatically once a guy puts his open hand on a guy. and ideally. that's what we'll see. We'll cross-check man. That i won by the book should be a fucking penalty. call it. yeah. I think ever since they took the can opener away i feel like that was like the next wave of how guys defended and wit. Correct me if i'm wrong. When guys are going what a defenseman especially going down on a ford in the corner. They usually try to get there. I think their hands are too far apart on the stick. They're fairly close but they try to. Just kind of get them right. Net hip area in order to throw his hips off in order to contain him and eventually gained possession or puck. Is that something that you used to do. No i would reach in and try to get the puck. But i i know what you're saying but they do not going on talk way more but in terms of trying to maintain a guy to where you keep them in front of you and keep them in the corner. Little crosschecks with your hands together can certainly knock a off-balance not the best players in the world. But i think you're better off getting your stick on the ice trying to get you know. Get it whether it's through. His legs then can be a trip or around him. Skies are so good. Now that when you do throw those little crush they can kinda spin off your and if your sticks in the air in my opinion that way is never going to do the job because you can't even have a Luckily deflect off your sick of the guys trying to make a pass if you've got a parallel to the ice and you're cross checking a guy in the back now saying that though you do see it a lot as far as i know. Defend that way right. so what. You're saying sticks on pox. Stick on pox pucks in deep bucks on that yeah biz. They've said stricter enforcement designed to promote offense and reduce injuries. So i mean if the reps consistent and calling it like you mean they don't want the guys pissing blood. Nah only if they're seventeen million over the cap all right boys teasing for a little bit here. Vegas golden night. Goaltender robin leonard. But before we get to him. I wanna let you know that this interview is brought to you by cross country mortgage cross country mortgages much like us at basel a people i group.

"Of games determined draft picks on that so But either way. Sanford to auto logan brown and a conditional fourth it looks like one of those trades maybe that might benefit both guys could produce use a change of scenery. Yeah and going back to sanford. I guess i'll say probably the best memory of a cup parade Him puking on the driver because he was so buckled from the night before and from that day and that day he was he was trying to get the hair of the dog. And i'm to chase it away. He ended up. Yuck it on the driver in that drop top but I tell you what man he was. He was really really big in that cup. Run for the saint louis. Blues was he was one of the guys involved in that altercation. I got them going wasn't he. Yes he he's the one who got beat up by art. Bob your twos. Oh bob you're no so. I mean sanford man he He he was very impactful on his time. There and as far as them bringing in logan brown you mentioned that injury brought bug ra. I think even dealt with it a little bit junior Up and down between the miners in ottawa. Maybe adds a little at the center. Position and armies seeing a little bit more than i guess. Maybe what other people are. So we'll see. I mean it's it's people. Put a lot of stock into these guys and and how much they perform earlier in their careers. But i mean the guy's only twenty three years old and some guys are just you know late bloomer so going to an organization like saint louis with a lot of good wily veterans surrounding him. I think you know maybe he could take that next step and become a full-time Nhl any healthy. Who'll like saint louis. So maybe that really gives a majority prior always wanted to play for the blues. Now he's going home cooking cooking fuel the play not here before we get to rob lenna buddy. Hazy had to a little surgery He got abdominal surgery. I guess he escaped and felt a little tweak. He did of the hernia issue. Baccarat the shia He's gonna miss about the first nine or ten games. You also spoke with the media about losing his brother. And how much hockey community has rallied around him and supported him. And it breaks your heart to see caveat talk like that but it was nice to hear him acknowledge you know how kind the greater hockey muse bench on wet. It was great and you talked about all these different people who reached out to him and former and current teammates. Who showed up to jimmy's funeral and services. And i think it's also cool that he mentioned how close him and keith. Yandell are and the fact that they're living together. This year helps otani socks to see him get injured but he'll get back at healthy and be there for most of the season. It's just a bummer. To begin your season going under the knife and with with something you've dealt with in the past and not to make light of a surgery but You know. When i got face call facetime call from yan's he was there in the room because you said they're living together and i think that he got just as bad as a haircut on his ball bag as i did on my head from the nurse before his surgery because he still had sideburns off the side of his horn. Much like the guy who cut myself they those those those things a hair. Jewish people have tendrils. I don't know that'd be a question for you. Know what that is is that a little jewish orthodox even looking over the curly accused on the side a fish hanging tendrils pot of an animal payout. What's the tendrils google kendra tendrils like an antenna. Some sort of an animal. If i'm mistaken coleman gulf you had to litters on the entire time. God that is dash five all he kinda swing a tendrils a slender thread like appendage of a climbing plant also often in spiral form that stretches out it's basically like a vine tendrils on the side more probably the more politically correct way to say about it. So actually you got. Plus five there with ardine how jewish orthodox people dragged through the mobile curly coupon curlicue aspect to it. If you look at the pitch. So i wonder if the alkyl picture we'll get that on we're business haircut pictures on. Maybe maybe he actually had the same guy cut his ball back before surgery. That cut my salad. Ten handle something also to plan the whole thing time. Frankly told as he had any good ones lately. No i slowed down. He's just he's. He's an instagram influence or now. So he's right. Asian four four the other day to break eighty for the first time in his life. A what about what about make him the first non hockey player to join a sandbag. Or he may be him. Net haven together do it. I think that that would be an absolute monster head now. People viewing it'd be a. Who are these people would be. If we have viewers of sandbags who. Don't listen to the pod which there might be some they might be like. Who are these guys. But if you listen to the party. Know about foley ned. You're tuning in and it would be exactly what you think it would be. I'm pretty. We got yan's and moths from the rink shrinks at some point two. Okay but i'm pretty sure every person listening knows the guy who threw me a beautiful saucer pass on a five on three to think. Oh look behind the back. No look behind the back to thinking. I was going to step in this thing and get them an ice primary assist five on three time of the year. Yeah 'cause 'cause our boy nettie hebert. He played bc and he was more of a a role guy there. But he's playing power play in the e. c. h. l. with the wheeling when i was on the team and we've told the story before but he throws it back to me and thinking i was going to step into it and at center ice fighting lane. Manson six ten for the dayton bombers. So yeah we should definitely get him and falls in and the action and maybe ra on the commentary six tent. he's as christ. Every time i tell the story gains four by the end of our contracts. have barstool in ten years let's see our couple more notes boys edmonson going. "I think they're looking at him for whatever two thousand twenty four draught or whatever. It would be thousand twenty three projects that be dr dre back it up. 'cause i was talking to donor the other day and speaking of these young stars coming up the last time there was a legitimate leash. According to like the series talent talent evalu- evaluators slash scouts in the nhl. The last eight plus prospect in the draft was austin matthews. Like were they knew he was gonna come in and he was going to dominate. Apparently there's four in the next two years shane right. Who's up this year and the year following. There's three guys. Connor bavard adam fantasy and the dow aboard divorced ski. That's the russian kid will maybe mitioukov's the next year. Also there's another eight plus i. I mean granted. I don't know about the ape plus rating and how this scots look at these. Can't miss guys mcdavid matthews. Patrick kane's but this kid's in the cage l. scoring goals for saint petersburg who's a top team every year and i think he's sixteen years old. He's got full cage on the league. Dude does so. I just love seeing this. It's it's it's every sport off. It's every sport. The young guns are coming in people who are ready to dominate professional leagues at eighteen years old. Football's a little different. 'cause you can't go till after three years from graduating high school but it is wild to see these hockey players and how good they can be at such a young age. It's so good for the game bingo and that's kind of why we need. We need the stars we need them shine and we can't be losing them to the cage. I'll and going back to what i said about the rated a plus. It doesn't mean that guys haven't turned out to be as as good as the austin matthews and having excelled to that level like kilmer car was not ranked out when he was drafted. He turned into an a plus type player. But i'm just saying is that was the last time they saw guy and they're like this is a can't miss guy that have you draft him. He is going to make an impact right away. Was it matt who made billy guarantees camera bitch. First pitch at the baseball game he goes. Jimmy also take didn't even care. Billy garin his guy in the type of guy. He is though the cooler cats to play in the nhl. In the last thirty years. I would say well. Everyone loves them and they asked they said you know were you upset at all and he goes no. I never took a personally bill. Garin was a guy who sat out twice in contract negotiations during career. So i was talking about the camera. Not not the normal tell you moved away from that but yeah the minnesota twins first pitch in. He's a kid. Take take take a pitch. I kind of did that to Ken casey from dropkick murphys after the bruins won the stanley cup. Like i don't know. I mean i know who he was. Obviously the draw fees. And i was sitting there with john thought and am i. I had an old school camera. Like with film. And i was like. Hey can you take pitcher. And he kind of looked at me like as if the be like. Who is this guy. That guy don't tell you but then i think he realized he said no. It would've been kind of a dick moved given it was like a stanley cup celebrations. So he took. The camera took the picture. But so if you're wondering who that your name was randomly that nato was prison to ask them. Yeah i gotta get that pitch. I gotta dig it out to show a couple other signs to buffalo. They signed Cornerstone defenseman rasmus darlene. Joy three eighteen million dollar deal The twenty one year old is going into his fourth season. he was the number one. Pick any twenty eighteen draft Wet i'll go you again. You're the the other defenseman on the show. Have you been satisfied with his progress. You'd think buffalo's been holding them back to the on pace which take a tough one to say. Because i'm actually surprised at one of those plus plot prospects i remember his world junior and what everyone said leading up no brainer first overall pick future. Nick lidstrom type. I mean to say that about a defense. It sounds crazy. But the discussions on him were game-breaker mcconnell mcdavid of defense and at times. He has looked amazing. Skating's ridiculous puck handling the teams on socks. He's not great defensively but he hasn't been really taught played on a team that that makes it easy on a young defenseman to get the job done offensively so i think right now. If ya sabres fans they probably would've thought they would've had a little more after three years of him being in the league. But i still think there could be true. Greatness ahead of them right. It depends on where it's team goes depends on his game if you continue to get better. But i think the whole offense of side of the game and the puck handling and the skill is all there to be one of the best. It's the defensive zone and being completely well rounded and a true number one defenseman and being able to play in your own zone as well. The the question remains. I don't know it's really hard to judge players on the buffalo sabres. It's jar but it's true that if you're a sabers fan you might be like quote unquote frustrated at their growth between like when he came in his first year. But as you said like there's a massive anchor there in the fact that the rest of the team around him has not gotten any better in fact it's gotten worse so it's really really difficult to judge sky but he is a top caliber pairing defenceman in the nhl. There's no doubt about that..

"Was he out with a shoulder. Or was he was he still in the lineup. Maybe i'm confused here. I bought i blocked he. He he played in a cup. Final audio now. You got me doubt myself i. I'm pretty sure he was on the ice celebrate illegal. Yeah so but but either. Way i mean like. It's nice to see that. Sometimes it's the maybe the miscommunication. And i think that when we end up getting over the corolla capri sauve deal. That ended up getting signed. Sometimes there such a disconnect between you know general managers and even the players just because they have so much to worry about. You know maybe tarasenko wasn't feeling the love based on what he provide organization seems like it is something right now that they are maybe rekindling so i hope the best there were some quotes from him Here i got him right here. I could read them off so bear with me for the next thirty minutes he goes. We always love the saint louis community. We always try to help the community as much as we can me and my family were. Were very grateful for those people who support us through this last nine years. Especially the summer. We received a lot of support. I'm grateful and then baru bay wrote are brew based quotes where. I really don't believe it's a distraction at all. He's been here for a while skating with the guys being with the guys hanging out with the guys. I thought he looked excellent out there today. He's been part of this team for a long time. Yeah things happened in the summertime. things are said. i don't go. I don't go into it at all. Let me restart that. I don't go into it all that much. I don't worry about that. He's here playing hockey for us. So i coach him. That's it. It's not a distraction in my opinion. So maybe i'm making too much of the tummy sticks going on in the media and the fact that tarasenko saying he loves the community and ruby. Saying these not a distraction. So i don't know if you're a saint louis fan. I'd imagine you don't want to go over. Forty goal score who. I'm sure after having a great off season training could have so lot to provide this organization. Yeah we'll keep an eye on it. Like i said this guy wants to be traded but it doesn't mean the team has to trade them as we see i mentioned exhibition games have started. I think pretty much. All the teams have played at least one game. Seattle played in spokane washington pretty raucous crowd. They beat vancouver five three. I thought those jerseys again unreal. i can't wait to see the white ones on the road You know what else looks good with these golf. Kicks my friends at peter. Ma are a no doubt. I need to take a minute to talk to you guys about these sneakers. Our friends at peter millar have released a new color. Way in their hyper light. Apollo sneaker to kick off the fall season and they are a game changer. The new color claret is it. Claritin or claritin. Maurice collect played for a while state. So i'm guessing. This is claret. I've never heard of color but it is sick. It's the latest drop in these sneakers that are inspired by the aesthetics of the space race. A darker red knit upper with a clean white mid-sole provides you with st ready style and supreme comfort perfect for the changing seasons. The upper knit with textured yarns structure.

"No coaches ever go is coming actually. No i'm coming. I'll be there all right boys. It's officially fall. Which means baseball is here. Football is back in pucks in hoops. Just around the corner so head on over to your local bar and make sure to order some pink whitney to enjoy with all the game that any game. That tickles your fancy. I'm a big football guy. This time he was down football a little bit wet but a couple of shots of pink. Whitney boom right back at it. Speaking of which tampa bay is a six and a half point favorite. Right now. wouldn't be shocked. That goes up toward the end of the week in my survivor pool. I had i bought four picks at the beginning of the year. I lost one when buffalo last week. One i picked them to pittsburgh. Steelers beat him. But i have three left. One of my three. This week was baltimore. And i was playing golf and i had no idea and i looked at. Oh nice they won. I had a group group chat of the guys in this in this pool and they were like body. You have no idea. Sixty six yard longest field going history to waste your off the bottom of the crossbar and then rolls in just so i had. I've been watching. There's no chance misses it by twenty yards. But i just thought it was an easy win when i looked at the score out. So the cherry on top is. I want to say somebody who was recording it behind. You remember when big cat ended up going to the game with those guys who were in those silly hats most ridiculous night ever detroit on someone else i think it was so he has a kicking it against detroit and somebody who was videoing. Had those guys in front of them in the shot and hits the crossed links over. Oh my what. A what a treat. We've gotten pretty deep into the football. Talk but okay so we might as well talk about aaron rodgers assumed shaved. Save that for the back end. Say that say the the for the back end because we do get hockey to get to first off. We do have a guest. We're not bring him on quite yet. We'll later in the show. We have Vegas golden night goaltender. Robin leonard joins us for nice lengthy chat about an hour and a half and very interesting fellow. We talked a little bit much though he kind of kept to himself. I don't know if you guys are like the the is a very opinionated guy and we love guys when they come on and let it fly. And i don't know if you guys have seen some pictures online. He is looking absolutely shredded coming into the season. So this is a man on a mission. And i'm interested to see him in the starring role. Yeah so a little later will bring him on. But like i said in the intro. We've got some more drama up in buffalo the latest in the soap opera up there unsurprisingly. Jack eichel did feel as physical given given the situation. What his neck Then he was stripped of his captaincy. Of course we've said before he wants the artificial disc replacement team watson have the fusion surgery. It's crazy they're fighting so much over this. You gotta wonder if the shots are being called from somewhere pile. Like if i don't know. I mean kevin adams really digging his heels in this much or someone above him saying hey you gotta do this season first time. Gm he's gonna he's gotta take orders from the boss. But i don't know man it feels like this has got their hands so far up his ass. He's a puppet master at this point. 'cause yeah this is jason. I'll be honest. I thought there was not a chicken. Dick's chance in hell that this would be dragged out as long as it has. That's why i never really gave it much. Deep thought earlier on the summer. I thought he was going to get moved over. Maybe towards the end of summer this is just. This is fucking embarrassing. This is a guy who should be getting ready for an olympic year A starring nhl. Who's know the pinnacle of his career. And when all throw it over to you but this is a fucking joke. Yeah i said it from the beginning. And you're right. There's no chance you can give kevin adam schiff for this hulas telling exactly what telling him exactly what he's gonna do and not giving in to the surgery that the player wants to get on his own body and we actually talked to robin letter about this because he was a part of some issues in buffalo granted. It was a different staff and a different time years ago but he had opinions on. What's happening to jack. We're we're biased in a sense that we're friends with jack eichel but in looking at the whole scenario forget that this is fucking insane that there's a player in the league any player in the league that wants a surgery and that the team won't let him get it and not only. Is it hurting the player hurting the team. First off. he's getting paid. He's getting paid duty. He got injured. Playing hockey. do didn't get injured in on a motorcycle. Doing something off ice. This guy got injured in a game and now he can't play. The team gets nothing out of the team. Can't even trade them because they can't get an agreement with any other team on what surgery he needs and the whole issue really stems from buffalo being such a dumpster fire and really ruining this from the get go now i i see their side in the sense that when the cbi was was discussed in figured out like this the teams ended up having control over over players injuries and surgeries. That's definitely gonna be looked into next time. The as what you what do you call it all right. What's the renegotiate renegotiate. Whenever it is negotiating again this will good job is there will be talks about this because it's a bad look for the entire league like you say one of the best players in the league one of the biggest young guns going. He's not even playing. Nobody has any clue when he's going to be playing and he was skating all summer. I talked to guys at boston flying around looking on real now. He can't be hit. There's contact but he looks great and you just feel for a guy. I don't care how much money has disguise loves. The game hockey's all he wants to do. And you're sitting there in limbo right now. I listen to elliott and merrick on thirty one podcast and they were talking about how with tarasenko and tarasenko request trade from saint louis. His medical records were made to be seen an open to any team that want to see them in terms of talking trades. They look at it. They could have their doctors look at it. Nobody seen eichel's. So maybe at least come in and elliot said this in terms of getting his medical records to any team who wants to see them so at least they can have doctors give their opinions on what's going on and maybe a trade could happen before the surgery goes down but the whole thing is embarrassing. It really is embarrassing for the league. It's embarrassing for the sabres and you're looking at a guy you strip them of the of the sea and he's just gonna be they're getting paid and where does this end dude like. At what point does this is gonna do..

I knows xactly at the i. Don't i don't know if they dropped official numbers. Gee whiz we would just look at. But they've been selling through the roof as you'd expect. I think any new team but this logo kills it man and we saw the team play the other night. That first preseason game. I mean those jerseys gorgeous on the ice just all the different shades of blow and then the whole tend to go with red. I mean like people shake their head at. I don't know man we've been complaining. The gel has boring nicknames. Boring teams born lows. And now we got this. And i thought it was out outside the box and they fucking nailed it. Big gave us crackheads. It's amazing i don't make glass. Do you get like little twisty braids and you head. What's fuck boy. Haircut actually comes with an active and actually get to join the. If i was wiggling my decker out and i can't be doing that with all the chairs aren't just the calamar guys just talking about small concert. Who played one last week in inbox. We'll just outside boston while we were recording. The rolling stones were. They've been boston's last month because if snow finishing this toilet that's been two years now. "What's happening at. The fed marketplace breaks all down. So you don't have to listen to marketplace where you get your podcast. Yeah that's the part. That i think trips up just a robin leonard. Message chew of kind of by accusing the league pay of lying. That became at least for us. Like the initial story of you know we're rushing to the nhl in the nhl pa who we've mentioned hasn't popped Publicly commented on this saying basically. Is this true. you know. That's the line of questioning. Whereas i think there would have been a better way to frame it of just kind of more of the will. Why is this different. Or why is this the way you guys are going about it because like i still understand lenders frustrations with how the league's acting with this because all the other professional men's professional sports leagues are going about it differently in terms the nba. Mlb nfl. The nfl's obviously not in season but the nba and major league baseball are so i get letters point of like if they can do that and they're doing that on a team by team basis. You know major league baseball is not saying okay once everyone on all of our teams has the opportunity to get fully vaccinated wall relaxed protocols. It's no as soon as you are fully vaccinated. This applies to you and if you know one team gets their ahead of the other team we don't care that other team gets these things i in. That's kind of their subtle way or if you call it not so subtle of them kind of encouraging people get the vaccine in the nfl if you get fully vaccinated. You don't have to be subjected to daily kobe tests anymore which for a lot of players. I'm sure would be a very welcome thing in the nhl. I'm sure a lot of guys would welcome it. Currently the knight's still have to get tested every single day even on their quote unquote days where they are not required to come to the ring. In skate they still have to actually show up to the team facility. you know. get their cova test and then basically drive away. So i think that would be welcome for a lot of guys so i. I get the frustration. There i do. You know the message may be wasn't frame probably as well as it could have been. But i do understand kind of the gist of his frustration. The last thing to say on this topic before we move on. Dave is just you know i mentioned it. Sounds like a daily gm's to not expect protocol change anytime soon So do you think the fact that lennar was public with this and i would assume A lot of players are now talking about it Both you know in front of the media and just behind the scenes amongst themselves in various locker rooms in the time that they actually get to be in their locker rooms together. Is this going to have any impact you think. Is this going to cause the nhl or nhlpa to revisit this earlier than they might think or. Is it going to be a case where this actually looked at until the playoffs. Maybe not even. Then i think in i know larry brooks from the new york post written something that seemed to kind of indicate that maybe the road a little bit. Maybe in the playoffs that there could be You know some different things that come down. I mean you know hard of hearing this. I'm thinking about this. And like i. I'm the more and more than thinking about the more and more i. I'm realizing i need to be very careful what i'm saying because there's almost like a lot of political undertones to this and where i get where the nhl is coming from is like you know the guidelines in different states in different areas of the us. And like you mentioned versus janitor are completely different in it. Should as robin lehner pointed out. It's shouldn't impact anything be competitive part of all. That shouldn't come into play. What just get just taking a step back really. It's hard to ignore it. You know and so there's just there's so many different layers to this. There's so many different things i think you know. Maybe there's enough pressure if there's enough change. If there's enough positive progress going forward just across the country in in canada you know maybe if the nhl feels like to the playing field is level enough. I guess which you know again reiterate rob lenders point his at a shouldn't be a factor but if that's how they're looking at it in they're going to say well okay. It's it's this way in new york and it's the saint now california's similar in florida. You know i guess. Texas texas North texas by you know maybe doubt point than the nhl can look at it and say okay. Maybe we can do some things. We're down to sixteen teams. Maybe all sixteen those teams or whatever have been vaccinated that pointer whatever it might be that enables the do it. So you know we'll see. I guess you know you're optimistic. You're hopeful is we've learned in the last year plus fifteen months. Whatever it might be. You know who knows what this thing. That's very true. Well we'll leave that discussion for their in. Turn to a some more on ice matters for the golden knights who have had a leisurely last couple of days weirdly for the first time in a long time. They played the anaheim ducks on saturday. One after having two consecutive off days which was crazy at the time and then they've now are going to have three days without a game in a row before playing wednesday at colorado which is even more nuts. so that's interesting as we mentioned at the top. We're down to nine games. Left in the regular season for the knights of two against colorado arizona minnesota in saint louis plus one against san jose to close out their season. The avalanche lawsuit. These saint louis blues last night to the nights are now four points ahead of colorado. With one game they their head hit. Points percentage colorado has a much easier road the rest of the way however they have four left against the kings for left against the sharks and then of course those two left against the knights so with that being kind of the final stretch. Dave how much of a slip up If any can the knights afford thrust of the way here and still come away a winning the west division which as we've talked about his a big deal because saint. Louis kinda scuffled all year. It looks like they're kinda pull away in that race for fourth and would get to play them in the first round rather than playing the minnesota wild which is a team that they've kind of. That's the team that actually struggled the most with all see them. I mean i guess it's like anything all year with These games being four point games so in terms of a slip up. You know nine games. I mean you'll foreign and five and you're losing you know to colorado to minnesota. Yeah those teams can gain ground. You know real quick. You know that you know the game tomorrow with the with the nights in the avalanche i mean if the goal knights win in regulation all of a sudden they ticket six point me with they have eight in colorado nine games left. I mean that's a pretty big lead. If you're able to hold serve the rest of the way or of these you know come close to holding. Serve the rest of the way so you know. It's a big game tomorrow. It's a big stretch. It's kind of the deciding factor. I mean i don't. I don't expect it to really be decided until that. Second avalanche in probably may tenth final hung in philadel- nights. So we'll see that that's the fun. Part of this is not playing. Had had you know. It's it's the one advantage i guess with with the schedule and i think it worked out the play. Division teams down the stretch. Anyway but now they're like significant meaningful games head to head games against it was always they play the flames. The kings last year they finished obviously edmonson shortened season. but like. They haven't had these. Come down the stretch and play these big head to head who you're competing against for the division title. So that's.

"They almost seem to wash their hands of it because they posted a good chunk of of his speech on their website or excuse me on their social media in kind of tease to the fact that the whole thing was on the website. So it's almost like they're the team saying well we didn't do it you know. We're fine with what he's saying will back him up. So there's just a lot of mystery here and unfortunately as robin lehner pointed out because it's robin letter in his reputation and everything. That sort of comes with that people tend to tune him out a little bit. Unfortunately and i know that's why he's you know pounding his fist on the table. You know getting really passionate about this. Because he knows it's the truth and he wants it out and he wants people to believe it but there's just there's this weird sort of gray area of what happened. You know almost three sides in until we get clarification on where specifically that information came from. You know it's going to kind of be. He said he said on all this issue yes. Let's go through Some of that stuff because it's all really interesting right so clearly. There were some discussions about loosening. The protocols that's why lender posted the nba stuff and whether it actually got to a promise or not from the league. I could see why you know in leonard's mind if we're discussing it this is something that should happen especially in his mind. Probably what he's saying is look the nfl the nba and major league. Baseball all already vaccinated player protocols in place where restrictions ease up once fully vaccinated in major league baseball which also has it's season ongoing right now i believe vaccinated players can gather in hotel rooms. Unmasks prior to the everyone vaccinated. They can go to restaurants stuff like that like they have a kind of step towards normalcy. And i can see leonard easily saying hey if they have that. Why can't we like what's the difference between us. And so maybe that's just some of that frustration coming out there now from the nhl perspective. They've already said pity. Commissioner bill daly said wednesday night to the nhl a'meeting hey we're not changing our protocols probably until the end of the regular season and maybe not even then that was reported by nhl dot com. And we're basing coming from an is like we just got done with a huge covid. Nineteen outbreak in vancouver where twenty plus players tested positive for covid nineteen. Colorado recently was on a covid nineteen pause. The nhl is still very much dealing with the pandemic as the entire world still is. It hasn't gone away yet but especially canada is a much worse off than the us right now. Because canada's vaccination rates are just crazy crazy you know low compared to the us. I mean i think people by most people knew s you know. Obviously it's tough to probably schedule appointments in some places for some people but it's available to the general Public people can get their shots Highly recommend people do that but in canada. That's not the case. So obviously there's the issue of you just relax it for the. Us cities are not the canadian markets. If you're the nhl. I think lennar is trying to provide an emphatic. Yes here but the league seems more hesitant. So i think that's all understandable. The part where gets kind of you know not great. Just like kind of sad for me. Dave is there does seem to be an undercurrent of you kind of touched on this with lennar the response of hey you guys making millions of dollars as hockey players you just need to suck it up and kind of take whatever the league gives you. What are your thoughts on that response to that kind of whole notion of these guys are obviously very well paid for the job that they do and a lot of us would obviously like that type of compensation but does that mean that they just kind of have to quote unquote suck it up here season. I think that was kind of the point. That leonard was making was that they're humans and that they shouldn't have to just suck it up. That's the attitude that you should be taking people. I guess my counter that. I'll play a little bit of devil's advocate a little bit. I was trying to go through the covert protocols in like the you the all that stuff in in sort of see what was laid out if anything in terms of you know if win a vaccination comes you know these these are going to whatever you touched on it very well been you know just a minute ago and where hoven is still affecting the nhl in all sorts of during the season. I believe it was february. The heightened restrictions that came down as the nights and other teams were affected in the nhl was seeing an outbreak in buffalo new jersey. You know that they. They essentially locked down players. They they say you know you can't go to the grocery store you gotta go from home to the rink back to home on the road. You go from the hotel to the rank back to the hotel you know. Now here's the thing. Like i put myself in the shoes of well. What do you know. I go on the road that i sit in my hotel all day. If i had a wife kids toss them for a couple hours watch tv. I don't know maybe it's not miserable for me but i'm also different also wired differently than these guys you know. So does that make it. Because i can do it that everybody else should know. So like the whole notion of will you're making millions so you're different. You're not you know. Bay sleep people That's where it's always side with robin lehner on in in that. That should be conversation. You know they're hockey players but their people their husbands and have wives and kids. You know the people that work in the in the organization you know with the team women husbands get. You don't like all of this stuff. i mean i. just there's just there are so many different lives in people that are involved in this into kind of dehumanize elements of it. I think in. That's where i come in robin lehner for for standing up and speaking the other side of this like i said it into play. Devil's advocate is like everybody signed up roots. Everybody have the option to opt out in in if they were lately. Lied to to us. Robin linden's phrase. That he said was a blatant lie. You know okay by. I don't wanna say they have to suck it up. I don't wanna say like what you signed up for this. But i do think there is a small elements of that in. Everybody knows what they're getting into. And that's what makes this situation so difficult understand was like what was said what was laid out. What were the expectations. What was assured or promised and if if there were things that were laid out to the to the players specifically if the team the nhlpa of some representative of dr kill whomever came in and showed them the brochure and said that this will be you know what you guys can expect if eighty five percent through it as robin lehner. Seem to kind of intimate. Now that's one thing by just nothing with this as clear and it's just so hard to avoid going on a- you know like taking sides on because like i said i feel like there's truth to to all the stories that are being told which seems to.

"The nhl goats when your review journal golden knights beat writers. Joining me on the other line is my colleague. David james dave. How's it going ma'am good. How few days off To use chandler stevenson's phrase recharge the batteries. So you know all sat raring to go. Let's Through the home. Stretch here right yet. Batteries are definitely amped up for the night's final nine games of the regular season. We're of course going to discuss what those games mean and how the night's are approaching them on this episode as well as a significant office topic developed a last week Right after we recorded last episode. because of course that's how it goes up before we get to all of that. I wanna remind everyone that. The golden niche podcast is sponsored by one hour air conditioning and heating. We are also presented by a blue wire podcasts. And of course as always if you guys could check out all are written work at review journal dot com that would be much appreciated and if you could rate reviews subscribe. Whatever you to podcasts. Please do this one. We would very much appreciate it. Sort of dive right into everything as i said something kind of major happened last week i think the day we recorded last we did in the morning went to the next morning skate. And after the knights morning scape was over a golden knights goaltender. Robin leonard gave a passionate unprompted speech on zoom call with media where he criticized the nhl in the nhl players association's approach to vaccinations in covid nineteen restrictions. A he basically accused there. Those two entities of kind of telling the players to get vaccinated because they would then ease restrictions for guys who got it so For those of you who can't quite recall or don't remember players are living under very strict guidelines. Right now you basically are only allowed to be at home at the rank or if you're on the road in your hotel room unless something crazy comes up like a family emergency or things like that. There's very little that these guys can do Even if there are two weeks out from their second vaccination dose or you know a couple weeks out from their one if they got johnson and johnson basically So leonard said after the nets were able to get the vaccine. The nhl nhl. Pa went back on their word instead. Restrictions would not be changing which is ultimately. You know what prompted to speak out. It's worth knowing that. The nhl specifically deputy commissioner bill. Daly have died that any promises were made to players. It's also worth noting that knights captain mark stone who is an alternate. Pa rep for the team kind of avoided answering the question when he was asked if he had the same feeling as leonard those two entities went back on their word so he specifically kind of avoided answering that question and sharks captain low in qatar. Who was also an alternate. Pa rep for his team. Said loosening restrictions talked about in a general sense earlier in the year but he hadn't heard of kind of specifics lately. The other big branch of leonard's argument besides the fact that he felt he was lied to. Is that by not loosening the protocols he said the excuse he was given was that the nhl nhl pa didn't want to create a competitive advantage. Where some teams have more freedom than others and maybe that affects things on the ice and lennar bay said. That's not right. You should be looking out for player mental health because us being kind of cooped up and not allowed to do so much has really affected a lot of guys. You know mental and emotional health. He took a lot of character mentioned. How difficult living in the bubble was last postseason. Where guys are kinda stuck in the same spot for months on end in how you know not being allowed to leave your hotel room except to go to the rink really is so yeah. This created a quite a story. A continued friday when you know like the nhl obviously denied that any promises were made and lennar posted. A picture of the nba's vaccinated protocols on twitter because part of his speech was saying. Hey we've gone over. As with the pa the nba's protocols basically it like outline of like hey. This could be kind of what we're looking to do. And so he posted a screenshot on twitter with the caption. I just make things up. I guess obviously that is kind of his way of saying like. Hey these talks that happen. And he's trying to provide evidence for that a lot going on and it's a lot to digest and there's a lot to process and think about and there's so many layers in nuances to this topic So dave just in general when you're kind of sitting on zoom call as i was and robin lehner starts what ended up being kind of an eleven minute speech on all this. What do you make of. This situation will first off good on him for standing up and speaking out if he felt like. That's what he needed to do. You know. I mean if t felt like there was an issue he was obviously passionate about it clearly the mental health side of everything and his wanting to get back to normal basically four for his mental health for what he feels like for other people's mental health that that was i think a lot of where he was coming from. Where this all stemmed from I'm always careful insensitive to the topic of talked about this before you know. It certainly hits home for me. i don't want to say the wrong thing with anything regarding leonard. But clearly he was at his wit's end she was she out his breaking point and needed something to come out and make it public in in the one thing that we know about robin lehner throughout his career. You know in ottawa buffalo new york chicago to some extent here. He's not afraid to speak out is not afraid to call people institutions entities out. If he feels like you know they're not doing you know not doing their job or they're not performing up to standard or their aunt meeting the expectations that that he thinks they should be meeting. Whatever it might be you know the media. Ask a poor question. He'll push back. He's just you know that's his personality. And so in that regard if he felt like he was the one that needed to speak out on him. I believe in. I also believe the nhl that they didn't promise anything but there was something there. Some kind of disconnect here. I think that's the issue like who said what. Where did it come from. Came from somewhere now. I don't understand quite how you know the smoking gun in all this is robin. Lehner like posting the nba's protocols like i don't think there's any doubt that like some of this stuff was talked about in like whatever you know but it's just who and where and when and why. And how did robin lehner get seemingly the impression that if he took a vaccination which he made very clear he didn't want to take you know under normal. Circumstances are all things being equal. He did it for what he thought was going to be personal freedom and being able to get out of his house and get out of the hotel and all those sorts of things. Nobody else seems to be like saying that are under that impression. So why is robin lehner. Like the only one or the only one speaking out of these you know. Like where is the disconnect. What that that's the mystery. And all this that i haven't heard from the nfl pa or the team. And what. I thought was interesting from the team. Perspective is.

A conversation with Joaqun Niemann

"Let's get back to joaquin neiman. Did was there. Anyone who would have been the person that you would have been the most nervous to be around either to have played with or walk by on the range. Or if they're watching you hit balls on the range you'd have been nervous to be around. Who someone that that at that age would have major nervous riley. Yeah probably playing around here. I think i think the first time i saw was the moriarty was late north third or four tournament which Experience i remember. I was playing great. I was almost the last ruben sunday. I mean i could hear that. There was not only ten groups front but i could hear everything that's note and the people following him by think. Sergio helped me a lot to like. Get that pressure off. You know like lie. Know him. Before i turn pro. I will to play with him before on unknown how good they are also know that i can like i can be here. You know. I was actually at that memorial that year and i remember watching. Ut off on the tenth hole once. i'd never seen you hit a ball in person and it just stuck out to me immediately and do on tv. And i'm sure you hear a lot about how low you hit the ball and i'm just curious. Has that always been the case. And is that something that you know you. You were aware of growing up or any special reason. Why would hit the ball. Low and chile. Or do you think about that at all non. It was is fine because at the beginning that league union a lot of confidence. When i'm like a little bit nebulous son. I need to hit the way. I'll heed that show on a new. I remember when i start being professional a using. That showed that now during the time. Yeah i've been using it less. I'd i'd be using more hydro. I'm just trying to hit farther on. May i have that show that. I feel really confident when a heated unease yummies late may go to That's what i was. I was curious. And i was looking back at the highlights from when you won at greenbrier every now and then that forty one foot apex driver shot comes out and i was. I was just interesting because of how different the game appear the direction. The game appears to be heading seems to be you know track man. Everyone's telling you hit it high. Hit hi hi. I'm wondering if you know as you were transitioning from amador into pareo if anybody came along and said hey you could hit it this much further if you hit it higher or but i think what you just said though it's interesting how you've you've prioritized accuracy. But i'm wondering if if that has evolved at all over the years. I remember when i played. Infirm courses The bogus along. Way i Relate to two seventy and he runs it. Depends on the fairway ferry. Sometimes when their firm for example greenbrier they allowed so sometimes is not that short by yemi normally. I've been preferring. yes More with hydro. Sometimes i got bunkers around when he died. I'm like are now monday. Just gonna he'd been the hydro and the beginning. I was really. I don't know if i was a little bit more secure or no but early. I prefer yesterday that low one being more coffee when the on knowing that i'm gonna hit the airway but now he's more like a feel like i feel better on the course right now and i just. I just thought that showed that like more. And he's been pretty good lately. So i like it do you feel. Where do you feel most comfortable. Like firm and fast conditions or when when it softer yeah. I like away. When when he's firm. I know that. I don't hear really really high with the also with the iron. So it is hard to me to stub on own the green when i when i'm lega 5-iron their firm 'cause i don't get it like really high but yeah i mean like bain with firm conditions. I think is is more fun on unb lehner green or heating widgets from the hundred twenty yards is is is good to see that like bouncing around the great in those more fun. Yeah i mean. I find it interesting you know. Obviously when it's firm your drivers going to run out a lot more but like you said it's hard to hold greens. If you hit it low and i i wanna talk a little about royal melbourne in the president's cup. You know you have it's interesting. You didn't have the most success at royal melbourne yet at the same time at olympia fields this year which was very firm and fast you finish third. And i'm i wanna talk a lot about role melvin. But first off. I would say. Did you learn anything in particular from that week. That helped you in later situations when it is going to be firm and fast. Yeah more than of course it was more like the atmosphere. Unlike the like getting that amount of pressure it was one of those way i mean the whole way was really intense. On the course roy ever was unbelievable. I mean i think he's one of my favorite right now. Unease eighty s a lot of strategy. I remember ernie was standing us. They don't in many drivers. You gotta The ball on the right side than it was more. Legacy smart play yet was different course. i remember in chicago Driver everywhere every bunker was laid three or three. Oh five three. Thank ari so i was trying to cater scarlet side. Ken he was going straight. You which is which was really good that we

Why Esports Coaches Don't Fill the Same Role as Traditional Sports Coaches

"This is actually focused on coaching I. Think this is an interesting parallel of the were talking about. There's an aspect of the MLS LCS COMP that relates to coach and it specifically how coaches approach roles for players and a trend I think started about twenty five years ago where there's this whole thing for young athletes hey, they need to specialize early and they need to find. Not. Just the sport they WANNA play, but the position within that's what they wanna play so that they could focus on it completely. and. It's something that creates a potential issue in terms of teamwork and. Understanding of. Either the field or the virtual or the rift depending on what what you're playing. And that's something that is sort of changing in the sports world a little bit over the last ten years who actually? No, it benefits our goalies to understand what it's like to be an attacking player. They can have that experience. That's good. You flush aw bat specific cop and why that relates to coaching and how it impacts the ability of coaches to really be successful. Of course. Yeah. Yeah. to miss it. Did you ever play a traditional sports? I did I was a soccer player in high school. I'll split tennis basketball really all around until I got injured and play sports because I need competition. I think we're we're pretty similar So. When when when I first started playing like as you mentioned like there was this focus on his Asian and the parallel to. Something like Lee. Legends is abundantly clear especially in North America. players will before they're even like in in ranked 'cause you have those thirty levels to get to. To get to before you start playing rank games. They're gonNA choose favorite position and like that's just Kinda engrained. And that's Kinda rough. But I think that needs to be that needs to be tackled that needs to be gotten rid of because when you're only. Focusing on one position and we have a lot of that and it's hyperfocused in North America. We have things like one called one tricks where you only play one champion. So it's it's hyper focusing on hyper focusing even more than is already have like should be happening. So we have these these one tricks and these one position players. And they're they're going all in and the as you said, they know nothing about the other player. So where coaching comes in is like there should be a focus on foundational knowledge and just general knowledge that will contribute to the overall play when when you're playing midland when you're playing midland in League of legends and Everybody knows most people know and Lee legends that the Mid Jungle Synergy is incredibly important has amid later if you know where your juggler is going to be and where the opponent judy is going to be, you can plan accordingly But if you all you know is about your your mid lane like position like say trade against your enemy mid Lehner and like a manage the waves effectively while that's important. Knowing about the other aspects of the game is it is expansive like you'll have a massive over the other teams and it. It's crazy to me that this the like just knowledge this is just knowledge. It's just being neglected we and I feel like it's just so much more potent in in North America still while still needs growth in other regions like a do follow g to at all. Of course alibi European friends Yeah Yeah G. to. Last year did something unprecedented. They sent a perks down to the bottling and they brought in caps who was a world class midlander, and so perks demonstrated something that no other team had really done before and that a role swap can happen and it will benefit the team like he went from. Midland to bottling lane in they played even better than they did before if anybody in North America attempted the same thing, I don't think we would find. Any semblance of the success that G. to did and I it's. I I think we should start working towards that coaching and House how this relates into coaching is. Is just the the emphasis on on knowledge. Our emphasis is always just as I said earlier, just the position that. You're already play and there are so many holes. There's so many things because people are just rushing to. Can like immediately I feel like I've gone a little rambler here real. They're made for rambling that's the whole point of the medium. It's I think you bring up a really good point is that position Louis play is the hardest thing to do at any most consistent marker of the greatest players and the greatest teams. If you watch a premier league soccer, for example, I was watching Liverpool. Play this past weekend at the way they move even compared to the MLS is completely within motion they're all. Moving with each other if that means that the midfielder needs to go back to Centreback, he does that without debate he's thinking about, Hey, this position I need to be he understands how the team needs to move around the ball and that's something that like you mentioned with g two, it's possible to do if you understand all those positions. But when you're one trick, this is true of MLS is somebody will miss their assignment and the whole defense fall apart because it's all predicated on everyone playing that one specific role, and it does not nearly have the same. Level of. Cohesion of of nuance that that the best teams in other countries are playing for an to America's credit. That's true of other sports say basketball when you watch a team in North America play or in the NBA play basketball, we're moving very position Louis. Format where it's Oh. It's people playing around each other The big men are no longer just staying underneath the basket there out by the three point line. And in other places that's not true because America's got the best basketball player at the best basketball league and it's sort of a martyr of. You have the best players and the Games take on added level of synergy. That's only really seen at the absolute top level, and that again comes down to coaching and a lot of ways coaching from early days, and then also coaching that continues into the pro play and having players who are receptive to have coaches actually talk with them and I think that's what are the big things we need to talk about his eastwards coach is. Especially in North America Arthur coaches respected some are but quite a few. Probably. Just got thrown into their role.

Climate change may make extreme hurricane rainfall much more likely

"Scientists are hesitant to point out any single event and blame it solely on climate change. But the director of Stanford University's climate and energy policy program says extreme weather conditions air testing the country. Michael Ware, a says it feels like the climate has it in forests with Hurricane Laura wildfires in California Ahh heatwave that produced a reading of 130 F and inland hurricane that hit parts of Iowa and Illinois and the tropical storm that left parts of the New York region in the dark for a week or more where it says this is exactly what scientists have warned us to expect in a warming world. La Vio Lehner of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, says a lot of the climate impacts that scientists anticipated are playing out as they thought they would sometimes increasing in frequency as in heat waves, sometimes in intensity, As in extreme precipitation events, he says, this will only get more

"Back on the beat Lehner show it's what we call this the global economic pandemic financial the current this is the financial economic pandemic I don't know I have not taken the time to research how other countries are dealing with personal financial cuts he sees amongst their people you read headlines here and there and links that people send around a light will this country she's given everyone two thousand dollars a month end and I'll be honest Dame I have not click on any of those to know if that's conjecture or if it's true or not but it is weird like it is certainly considering what's going on in America because of media but the entire world is actually dealing with us yeah we are not on our island all by ourselves at this point there are companies are companies countries of every economic persuasion trying to figure out how to not only save their individual economies but to help their citizens as well so it is Denmark doing something different than we are all of them are considered their capitals with a lot of socialist programs is Italy doing something Russia China or what whatever it may be there are all sorts of solutions being thrown out there right now and we're just trying to stay afloat all right so this next comment is really not for everybody it actually it is for everyone it's just some people are gonna care and that's okay I don't to tell you what to care about so is it is it is you and I and our team and so many others that that we viewed to be colleagues within the industry but don't work with us directly we see see sort of two groups of people on any day but especially these days people that typically don't have control of their financial life who have lost control and then people who generally have control and what I found over the last few days is that as a person who personally has control of their financial life and most times that feeling of being out of control that fish out of water is a stunning different level of stress where is the people who generally don't feel like they're not much control they don't have to make that particular just a yellow they're getting beaten up just like everybody else it could be getting worse for them but it's the shock of not being in control to some level which is knocking people off balance is that makes sense is that sound like complete hooey no I think so I I think I had a version of this right it's actually repeated itself a couple times and that was going to the grocery the first few times after everything started happening where stuff you would normally buy wasn't readily available I experienced food insecurity however minimal that saying really that experience was for me because I was inconvenienced about it but that that feeling was still there the little male twin engine in your guts knowing that you couldn't get what you what you had with the hope you're going to be able to get and then I had to think about families that deal with that all the time right and you eat you talk about reality said again on you really quick the white guy hi I was just kind of enjoyed going to the grocery and I I would often take this is an experience a lot of people around the world will never have just being able to walk into a building filled with food and supplies for more from top to bottom but you can afford that you can afford the the air you can just go fill your cart walk up to the counter pay for it and walk out and then all of sudden I can't get a five pound bag of potatoes and I'm frustrated weird and then you just feel like utter crap because you're mildly inconvenienced for something like that M. Hey dude I don't need the cards anyway you know that it's okay so it I'm but I'm ceasing these things personally just like I think probably everybody else's maybe changes perspectives and how we relate to each other yeah I I think it could Iran would appear free something I saw someone put out and I can't actually use the words that he used but it essentially said you know welcome to the rest of world this is what it feels like to be marginalized on a regular basis right and I agree with that and yeah I have and also think about this over the last few weeks I don't think people who are wealthy don't want people who are poor to not be wealthier say that better hold on the trade skin it's not the people are wealthy don't want the poor to the wealthy it's just they want to stay wealthy and it's not that the poor want the wealthy to be poor it is the poor also want to be wealthy and so I think sometimes what we think divides us is that we we try to do you know this idea that people try to keep other people down I don't think that's it I think it really has more to do with self interest and they're not even thinking about the other group and I wonder if this community feeling of being out of control begins to shift that paradigm or not I don't know I'm wondering out loud I hope you're right I I I have no idea either and I'm I'm wondering what kind of ripples this is just going to have is a start there or does it move into our communities at large doesn't move into government policies of large how do we prepare ourselves financially not only is families but as government entities or countries for situations like this the the I mean unless global travels gonna slow down which I mean who knows at this point there's still a very real chance of something like this happening again so I don't know I I sit and I probably spend too much time wondering what what the next five ten twenty thirty years is gonna bring water what my kids are my age what are things going to look like I saw something the other day I just keep saying that which is it's kind I sit I sit and read the internet all day dummy yeah we gotta talk about the we saw I saw I did read it but it's reading it's on reading the Wall Street journal and read the Financial Times I'm I'm reading The New York Times I'm reading non stop it was okay you're a parent of a high school senior right now what what do you even think about you know the food for the decision you made as a family as to what school your child goes to college and how can even get your head around well we were comfortable taking on thirty thousand dollars a debt for the kid and and then ourselves taking another fifty on top of that how can you even make that decision anymore yeah we colleges college's own problem a gay college as a few a few challenges out side of this but it's going to face in the next few years with an enrollment cliff it we talk about the affordability of collagen the the debt that people assume to go to get that education and then we have this and now we have as I mentioned just a minute ago the the enrollment cliff that's coming up the the face of college could look completely different in five years or ten years versus what it does now we can't plan for it obviously right now we have to we have to make our plans based on what we know and what we could experience what it's like it was a senior what I want to send him off to a campus with you know thirty thousand kids packed in a relatively small area right now I'm thinking twice about that it would you do it at a fifty thousand dollar university versus a ten thousand dollar commuter college and would you do it knowing that we're gonna be ten percent unemployment for the near future which yeah it's gonna be a really really small demographic discussing get out of my house and go experience college for that huge dollar amount it's gonna be different at the very beginning of this whole thing I thought for some reason because I'm dumb this could shrink the wealth gap and then about a day and a half later it occurred to me that this is only going to make the wealth gap problem worse and then you talk about the middle middle America the middle class disappearing man who what it takes to be you know all in that group anymore has changed even more I I so articulate here today are doing coming up after the break I promise that I was gonna tell people what they can do to help in the rebuild and we're gonna look we are starting out when we get back I promise I'll even be able to talk I'm Pete the planner and this is the show just adults who can feel stressed out our children feel stressed you I'm Tammy Silverman of Indiana youth institute between school demands maintaining friendships and expectations from adults it's no wonder that children sometimes feel stressed out but.

What to make of Blackhawks moves on NHL trade deadline day

"And talk a little bit more about what the Blackhawks did we bring in Charlie a room only autos from Anna corona hotline from N. B. C. sports Chicago Charlie how are you tonight Fred you nailed my last name they're not a lot of people can do that on the first try well I've been I've said it three times during the show so I try to get it right it is actually the more you look at it the more it is exactly like it's spelled sell it all but that is I'm I'm sure I'm sure you've got a letter from cap though well yeah well I in everything we've all got lessons from cap have only let's be honest yeah yeah we generally did did the Blackhawks get get done what they wanted to do today I think the goal and Stan Bowman even said this in a conference call it should basically recruit some of those graphics that they gave up for the end you're salty on it and try to get a you know they got a goal tender in return in a defenseman prospect but I think if you put them on a lie detector test or some truth serum okay perfect probably would have loved to get a first round pick out of out of today is that the reality is the market wasn't really to their favorite like six six first round picks removed in the month of February and neither one of those picks removed for rental so the Blackhawks moved to other youth expiring USA then they got a second round pick in the end plus prospects and then a third round pick forgot to send in a little bit underwhelming but you know that's what the market dictated it's interesting you bring that up Charlie because I guess the question at this point that is do you think the hawks waited too long in determining whether or not they were to sell it because obviously they had a little run there you know in the end of the at the end of December and January what it felt like they were getting hot do you think they maybe put too much stock in the fact that they were playing well but you know at the same time they they were still on the outside looking in it when when you're finally you know got around to the trade deadline here yeah it it's a good point and you wonder if the the blackouts could have gotten more for robin Lehner if they had treated him earlier but at the same time went when they come out of that bye week and they come out with a big win against Arizona like if they had it really had quite off type vibes where this team was close to knocking on the door and then you go on that five game western Canada trip and if you take care of business there like you're you're probably gonna be about a playoff spot if you pick up six seven point six or eight points on that trip and and that the fact they only picked up a few things started to spiral then obviously the we saw a lot of trade happened last week where a lot of defenseman got moved in and you wondered if the Blackhawks were gonna pull the trigger on America if it's been deleted get out in front of that but they stayed patient and I don't know if they were trying to package and Eric Gustafson with another asset like a robin letter to try all the packaging of the return and try to get that first round pick that they're covering but unfortunately they weren't able to make it happen Charlie you mentioned letter there and I think a lot of hawks fans are wondering he he will reportedly he was willing to consider a three year deal with the hawks now you know I don't know if we've seen confirmation of that report but it's out there that robin Lehner was willing to potentially talk a three year deal with the hawks do you think that something that was truly in their interest or do you think they just don't want to be locked up long term with robin Lehner due to maybe a quirky history to say the least well I I'm not sure about it because robin Lehner is on record saying that he didn't want to take a discount like you felt like you wanted to be paid market value and and he deserves that what whatever he was asking for he deserves what he wants and if the Blackhawks were gonna offer him he offered what he wanted like he had every right to take it to and and has every right to take it to the summer and get exactly what he's looking for the the fact that if you know the Hawkins did offer a three year deal letter would have been willing to take lasted it do a three year deal I feel like the team would have pulled the trigger on it because I I don't know necessarily if they were looking to try a lot of money and term to to robin letter because that's just not exactly how they operate in it we see all around the NHL now teams are very reluctant to give big contracts to goaltender than in the Florida Panthers are seeing it right now they they find Sir David Gonski two an eight year contract worth ten point five million dollars and he has been performing this season so I think maybe that's also what is scaring off the hawks and wanted to have that type of security with the goaltender another couple minutes where's Charlie Roumeliotis from the Blackhawks insider at NBC sports Chicago the guys they get back for a for a letter is is that yes they need to get some names back or is to Bangor to be their back up for the rest of the season or what you know what's going on yeah I imagine so I read in Markham Sudan will be the Blackhawks is back up you know barring any injuries and I know the Blackhawks do have calling deleon Kevin Lincoln in downtown Rockford who have both been playing really well like Kevin like that had a really good start to the season that now his play has tailed off Collin Delia really struggled at the beginning of the year and now he's been really good so if you have two young goaltenders in Rockford but I imagine now comes through and it's probably gonna be grooms here said to either be the backup going forward at least for the rest of the season and then we'll see beyond this year Charlie do you think a Jonathan Tay's will finish his career with the Blackhawks there's been rumblings are speculation mostly from fans that you know he could be somebody down the line the hawks might consider moving if they they were able to get a hall for him but to me Jonathan tapes just seems like the type of player who gently down the Blackhawks want retiring in a Blackhawks Jersey yes absolutely and I I don't blame Patrick Kane Jonathan three Duncan Keith those core players I don't blame them for being frustrated like they want to win in Chicago but the the problem is if they don't want to go somewhere else to win another ring like their soul that and they have no movement clauses in their contracts read that they want to spend the rest of your career here in Chicago and they want to win the Stanley Cup again in Chicago so I don't see that it man it would be if thirteen is out of date senior retired Black Hawk that it wouldn't feel right if they if they went somewhere else Charlie one last quick one for you what is the biggest need for the hawks this offseason to try and get them back on track and into the playoff conversation next year yes hi it's tough because you kind of want to see how this you know they've been battered by injuries particularly that of the blue line with Calvin Han and Brent Seabrook and then Andrew Shaw you know I would I would sail and it is those guys need to get healthy first and then you want to see how your developments are going with Adam vocalist and Kirby dach but to me ideally like you need you need another top six winger like you need another top six four they have Jonathan Tate and Kirby docking Dylan Strome and and obviously Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat but they don't have really that photo type scoring winger that can help balance out the lines and I'm not saying that the Blackhawks have it all made on their depth on their defensive group because they tell but you look at the reality is they have five guys under contract for at least the next two seasons after that and that's not even including Adam vocalist and potentially Ian Mitchell so I want to say a top four defenseman but it just didn't seem feasible because all the they have all these guys tied up Charlie I know it's been a long day we appreciate jump around for a few minutes no problem guys thanks for having me

"Let point Gustafson fix of a shot what position does it's just as it had to with this last night we mention the pregame show that he had ten points and ten career games against the Winnipeg Jets as part of our who will my banking on future with market bank well they had two points there the first fourteen minutes eleven seconds and the latter with the primary assist returning the favor as Gustafson did to him earlier in that period Matthew hi more the secondary helper there to make it to nothing that would be how the first period ended hawks in jets with eight shots apiece right before that first period ended at Drake could you love began what would be a March to the penalty box three times totaling eight minutes over a fourteen and a half and it's been care to the secondary but the Blackhawks were able to kill off all four of those penalties to could you'll because first it was interference call that he came back in the second period the four twenty mark to a double minor one for interference in one for unsportsmanlike conduct the kill able to come through there as Winnipeg started pelting shots on robin Lehner and then after the Blackhawks got their first power play chance could you lot went to the box at the fourteen sixteen mark of the second on a trip in court you can laugh about it now because the hawks survived it in one of the kill came through each of those times the only goal that second period was when a big drawing go off of some of that momentum from the power play with with into one when mark Shaklee scored his twenty third of the year so it's just a one goal game heading into period number three but the Blackhawks were able to get that all important question of a goal to make it three one nine and a half minutes into the third Catholic gent line shot the

It's very concerning trend that immigration detention is moving to rural areas remote areas where it makes it so much harder for a person in detention to get the support that they need detainees in urban areas or at least four times more likely to find attorneys to represent them. According to a two thousand fifteen university of pennsylvania ovadia law review study last year the southern poverty law center sudeiss and its parent agency the department of homeland security the civil rights group alleges the government is deliberately liberally detaining people in rural areas far from legal resources is which currently detains nearly fifty six thousand people declined comment on that case in in an emailed statement an ice spokesman says the agency looks at airports healthcare and legal resources when selecting facilities he also says detainees have access to phones and video teleconferencing and can meet with lawyers during visiting hours but many immigration attorneys complained rural facilities lack necessary resources there aren't enough. The phones are translators. Call connections are poor. Visiting hours are too restrictive and it's simply too far to travel. You'll alonzo's wife has been able to visit him. Only only once alonzo was recently diagnosed with lung cancer which makes the weight more excruciating. He eventually found a lawyer one of the rare detainees with free three representation but his wife says his asylum request and to request for parole have been denied grumpy what more could a wife with a sick husband one other seven to be with him at the very least i want to offer him my support and for my children's offer support one of the key reasons detainees are held in remote regions appears to be the money cheap labor cheap land. Lauren rich eisen is acting director of the brennan center justice program. She says many rural areas viewed prisons as job. Engines hundreds hundreds of new facilities were built in the nineteen ninety. S inmate population peaked then declined leaving lots of empty beds. Ice is now contracting with those rural prisons. It needs those beds as it continues to detain more immigrants. Just last week is arrested. Nearly seven hundred workers at food processing plants in mississippi loyola university law professor andrew armstrong says she sees that happening across louisiana win. The criminal justice reforms were enacted that left empty not beds that were ripe for contracting with ice. Those contracts can be lucrative. The state pays local sheriff's twenty four dollars and thirty nine cents a day to house an inmate eight by comparison ice pays five times that an average daily rate of more than one hundred twenty six dollars is confirmed it recently opened eight new detention and facilities seven of which are in louisiana all but one of them are in sparsely-populated areas. Lisa lehner is director of americans for immigrant justice. She represents detainees in glades county florida about one hundred miles from miami. Glades is the state's fourth least populated county surrounded by acres of sugarcane infield. I've never seen immigration attorney up there. You've never seen one never detainees there. She says are tweeted like hardened. Criminals glades aids has been the subject of a number of complaints and lawsuits they allege everything from misuse of pepper spray and solitary confinement to religious persecution later argues conditions are worse in rural facilities in part because fewer people can observe what's happening by contrast. She says when a brooklyn new york ice facility lost not for a week during a cold snap in january there was an outcry and if there's going in and out you would imagine that the people who are detaining immigrants are going to behave in a more careful way. It's not just that treatment might differ immigration courts in rural areas denied. Many more asylum cases sending detainees back back to their home countries. N._p._r.'s analysis of research from syracuse university found judges in rural immigration courts denied eighty seven percent of asylum cases compared to just over half an urban courts. Romi learner is associate director of the immigration clinic at the university of miami's law school. It is an issue because it means if you got a bad bucks. I think the team isn't a certain facility then you're almost guaranteed to be deported mississippi detainee. You'll alonzo hopes to beat those odds.
