I was being kind of negative about the house because it has this really ugly kitchen. You know I just it was just hard for me even though I just but the house is really awesome and you guys are gonNA see some really kick ass like backyard shots where the river behind it what grilling which is going to be really sweet well. I think you know if we're honest. There are probably few view houses in the country that had a kitchen setup like you guys had I mean it was pretty pretty bad as it was really awesome and I will tell you that that was a lot of our sweat equity Shitload of time into that house and that's why we're for doing this because we like that stuff we just like into that kind of stuff like Scotts into his gear room duck hunting and like I respect he's into his stuff. I have like way too many grills and the that takes a a lot of Ram. Do you just have pods set around the house and just GonNa stay like that and you go in and out of the pods as needed to get your stuff or you're not gonna like kind of semi move into this place until you. Are you assume you're building. Go Up. They just drop it off and you get your shit out and they pick it back up zoo. We you side like we had staged pods. We originally only ordered to and then when we started loading all of our grills in we ran out of Rome and had order a third pod so yeah so that's why I've been grilling on my Hibachi grill all week because that's all I had but I was really enjoying it my my lodge sportsman if you've ever seen it it's like really cute cast iron Hibachi Grill which is so fun to cook on and it's Super Portable. I'm trying to figure out where we WANNA. Go because I mean we could talk all night about twenty acres of like nothing in how you get so but maybe we can get into that here at the end so let's talk a little bit crazy agreer. You've unveil these to the general watching public so so let's talk a little bit about concept wise you know in an age in a day or a day and age where masterclasses are out the there's this whole new thing in the barbecue sphere that is like masterclass but it's only barbecue people and you're paying either per class or you're paying a yearly subscription to have access to everything why dump a bunch of really well produced videos short of course but but did you think about charging for these at all or was like no it actually the intended purpose was we we didn't we weren't totally sure what we were going to do with them. But I had the opportunity to new film with <hes> my business partner slash also my manager Garrett best because he was in town in Miami and we're like let's just see some videos together as I needed. I didn't have a youtube content that I had filmed with him or any content really other than stuff we'd done for like sizzle real and like really high alert highly sponsored stuff and I was like why don't we do jumping right. I don't have to be like having the hack a sponsor and like do what we really want to do and I've financed some of it and suited he and we just don't certainly great videos and we could we offer a class. Maybe we have been toying around with like subscription models of things and we went through a couple paths and even talked to a friend of his that was <hes> at like a someone that could the a potential ambassador and things and we're just we just decided that you know at everyone's trying to charge for content and that's not always the play the players sometimes about empowering others and and that's what these videos were about what is that you know and also the idea to is that I used to do these women's grilling clinics way back in the day and I didn't do as many after eight a kid because my life got super busy because they're also a lot of work I did. So much food prep I was like the one the one gal is like doing a small catering gag and then teaching it was just a lot you know and so I just physically keeping a day job or whatnot also just couldn't do not fulltime and I never did it for the money you can do those classes. I did him for the greater good the day just you couldn't do it all the time. It was just like very taxing so I like the idea of being able and but I would do them. Sometimes on the road I did a women's clinic in Knoxville Chris grew from Nibble made this and I've I've done a couple on the road with sponsors and things like that but that the idea would be like now you can be empowered to learn the stuff anywhere you know what I mean like. I don't need to come <unk> like set up a grills in have the class physically there like if you WANNA learn information should be at your fingertips albeit while my grilling clinics are awesome and we drink a lot of wine and a lot of really good socialization goes on and Networking and just like Fun Times. This is about like if you WANNA learn grill l.. Let me I'm Robyn. I'm a total pip squeak and if I can do it you can do it too and here's the basics once you get the basics down. Now you can be a total bad ass in your backyard you know and <hes> the basic should be available to everyone so they hey can empower themselves ticket to Cook Cook outdoors and have that experience because it's awesome and fun so did you and your of co-investor Co Financier Story Board what you wanted to actually shoot and are you able to knock these out all in one take ish where you're able to. Maybe it's a little longer than two or three minutes and then you edit out what you want to to get it down to the consumable time yes and those are all questions because you know from you doing the show for so long greg producing it yourself. There's so much that goes into it even just that's why people don't realize it's very easy to produce a food video. Were all you do is put the camera looking at the ingredients and you go like this and you edit it down but being an onscreen personality is actually pretty hard while also trying to like remember all the Shit you're supposed to say and look at the Right Camera Angle Blah Blah Blah you know so there's all of those things that you have to take into account when you do story story board which is like here's the ingredients I want. Here's the way I want them. Shot Blah Blah Blah. You know like you're kind of doing all these different parts so you have to Kinda plant all of these things out to be super productive when you're filming videos and also it so you don't have a food stylist you better lake. You're going to have to Shitload of prep which means you're probably not gonNA be super energetic the next day on camera because you're worn out for prepping so much foot so these are all things to think about like what kind of budget budget do I have to do things like Hira Food Stylus or whatever it might be in so I think those are the things they can go into like that. Kind of production you know like doesn't do those things warrant like how much we have to charge to enjoy this level of production as well like like almost like Garrett himself has filmed on a lot of four of like food type T._v. shows like the food network and whatnot and production value. It's very expensive to do it. You know you get like a grab named like the truck that shows up and pulls a shitload of equipment out which in all fairness these days you don't even need to have because everyone's doing such a good job like doing stuff at home with a tripod but this is still like that's what you see when you when you get that when you do that level of production I think if you look at like if I shot a video on my iphone or I did a tripod I took some my studio lights out. I mean I could make it. Look look good to a certain point but if you watch your videos I mean just the intro and the edits and the way that it sounds like you sound like you are professionally miked up because you're professionally Mike Opera. They got a boom just off to the side you or something like this. I I mean it is very <hes> Very T._v.. Esque in its production so for as good as you can make it on a shoestring to spend the money I mean there's a tangible difference in the end product. Absolutely absolutely it makes a difference in yeah you know and so I hope they I hope they do well and I just hope that honestly they help educate people and like I am here spread the gospel of like hell awesome it is to be.

You're talking about the wind and how she got into this live. Fire Competition in world is Angel Angel. How are you absolutely fabulous? Angel appreciate your time this evening and let me get rid of my mixer there hiding you there. You are sorry about that so before we get into the event in Heart Ville like a week and a half ago or so. Let's talk a little bit about how you got interested in live fire competitions. Where does it come from sure so my dad has always always wanted to compete professionally barbecue but never knew how to so he actually learned and him like best friends so I couldn't see him doing it without me so I helped him all the time and now we have catering business and we've been doing it every weekend since I was an eighth grade and I'm going to be a senior this year so so you're going on like five years of yeah so does he say angel? I'm really interested as as a twelve year old so hey I'm really interested in wanting to learn how to barbecue. You want to try it out with me or does he just take on the road or what yeah he kinda. Just does it and I like. I said like we do everything together so I was like well. I want to help so an hour here and it's fun for you right right. I think it's important to note that. Certainly you're a grand champion. Stay cooker no doubt but it's important to note that you are a K._C._B._S. certified judge or for an S._e._A.. Judge and you're also an S._E._A.. Rep along with your dad so you're actually kinda running. These stay cook off events too. So do you think it's important to be a judge in order to make yourself yourself a better cook seem for the S._e._A.. You have to be judged to be a wrap so you actually earn are judging certificate in West Virginia last year with Ken and Tom. We loved it obviously fell in love with one day events and the payouts great and having taft the winner gets the world championship. It's really nice so I don't know that I would say being judge helps subbiah better cook. I mean I definitely helps you understand the process better but I don't know that you have to be judged to be cook so being a father of three daughters. That's me to very similar in age to you. I can't sit here a name even one of them or their friends who have ever asked to go in the food competition or have an interest and learning how to actually do the cooking. Do you have friends that are into this as well or you singular in nature to assert degree uh-huh no. I'm pretty much singular. A lot of my friends think of crazy because that's what I do every single weekend but I really wouldn't have in any other way. I love what I do so so what's the draw for you. I mean as I said to someone someone who's got teenagers. That are your age. I'm just a endlessly fascinated with what interests kids these days in his typically not going out every weekend and competing and food honestly. I don't even know goes back to meet my dad. Were so close and I kinda actually people person so I get to be out there and I get to produce good product and have fun while I'm doing it yeah. It's really fun for me and I wasn't really sure what I wanted to do. After I graduate so kind of leaning towards this after I graduate so I already have had starred. We're talking with Angel Thanh she one the State Kickoff Association the first S._E._A.. Event in Ohio about a week and a half ago and so do you have a preference between doing barbecue events K._C._B._S. events versus S._C._A.. Events there had been in a quieter a ramp Tampa in popularity and competition barbecue for any number of years but for my money I would say that that trend is starting to go down but the S._e._A.. Really starting to ramp up you actually see other steak associated or a competitive. Stay governing bodies aside aside from a C._A.. Now so that really seems to be taking off giving your druthers. Do you have a preference doing one or the other. I don't really have friends. Those of them worked hard to get where they are now and I had a fan of both of them. I mean I can't Dan knocked one and love the other. I think they vote do a great job of what they do. <hes> I really liked the S._e._A.. Though because of the fast one day competitions and the fact that we get to get into the world championship that's a-plus remain. How many events have you done prior to the one you one? We can half ago that was my first time I've ever competed really ever. Yes yes by myself. I mean I'll be repeated with my dad but by myself house my I did you have in the backlog just doing it with your dad before you ventured off <hes> also not a lot at all right so when Hartsville pops up on on the map of hey we're going to have one in Ohio I mean I'm not sure where you located in the country Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Alka well. We certainly don't like Pittsburgh in Cleveland but will either side. You're so when you see an event pop up and hard Filippini gotta be he pretty pumped up. It's only a couple of hours away. I one in Ohio pretty big deal right see I was actually really nervous especially because the first one in Ohio the been trying to get into Ohio in my dad was like we're both Gonna compete like you can compete by yourself and I'll go oh by myself and I was like I don't know 'cause I don't like to lose and I competed the heartfelt grew fast last year and I beat him there too. So that was the surprise ordeal Latte beaten dad right so so yeah I was nervous and the whole way the whole ride Hartsville on that Saturday morning. I was like I'm GonNa win. This dad and he's like okay and I did so I mean talking walking right right Jason Angel. Let's go through the process. Take me through the trim and seasoning bore everybody with how you get your states but once you get your to stakes like how do you how do you get them ready for the grill okay so I got my steaks and I went back to our campsite campsite and I immediately put the Rub on them so that was for like ten in the morning and I think China was to get to to to thirty so I let them sit and kind of sweat out a little bit in Foia when the Cooler and I had never had the growth rates of Pie and put it on and whenever kettle yes so what kind of rubber you using do you give that information out or do we have to pay for that Poncho and left it was not I had to that I use as just a commercial great barbecue Rav actually okay so do you tie these steaks. I've seen that where you'd like to the string drain the one that turned in Yes. Do you find a big benefit of tying or time. I'm not against it but the only reside did tie was because it was starting to separate right in the middle. I knew that that was my eighth state. I WANNA turn in so I didn't want to rest knee appearance factor saw a cycle will just tie just in case. Are you trimming quite a bit you take the tail off and make it possible. Yeah I still wanted to revive though so I did take a lot of the excess fat off and make it as well of perfectly rounded refi you could make when you are gearing up the fire or you'll lump lady or Briquet lady or both and be long and of so. I see you said you were using grill greats. I was one of my other questions of us but you do. It seems I mean as you quickly perused all the other teams I mean would you say ninety. Be percent of teams are using the product greats or not I would say at Halloween ninety percent. I think there are at least two people that were there that didn't use them and to me I honestly I mean I think it makes sure appearance score what better but with the S._e._A.. You're not judged on your girl marks so but aren't you argue well. I mean I don't know saying nobody's listening personally. I I think looks better. I don't know the butter question. Would you turn in steak. It didn't have grow March and field just as comfortable yes I would because I was comfortable when my tastes flamer in my done honest and everything I think that'd be fine. I've seen guys that <hes> the West Virginia event that we ran me and my dad <hes> there were several guys in the top. Ten was the first time cooking I know they didn't have girl mark so so let's talk about grill temperature because when I was in Fort Worth like two years ago watching the state competition like guys were right there with our thermal temp guns like shooting the grill greats. I think they were looking like maybe six hundred under six hundred fifty degrees. You have like key temp. I like to six twenty five which some people might say a little high. I think we actually had it up to seven hundred my dad was afraid that grow Chris GonNa Melt but they didn't so oh anywhere above six twenty five it Sam comfortable. Do you have a specific flip time or is that dependent on your grill great temperature. Yes no when my initial I I put it down. I like to cook it for like a minute fifteen fifteen to thirty seconds and then I'll turn it ninety degrees to get my remarks on the other side and that completely foot bit over but yeah the first time it's laying down there pretty consistent once I flip it.
