"Destroyed. Listen, why characterizes this was mostly a protest. It is not is not generally speaking. Unruly people protest peaceful protesters peaceful protest peaceful protests. Peaceful protests useful protests peaceful protests. Peaceful protests. Peaceful protests. Peaceful protests. He still protests. Peaceful protests. Peaceful protest. Peaceful protests. Peaceful protests, peaceful protests peaceful protesters. But my favorite thing to show on TV at the time was a CNN reporters, mostly peaceful protests behind the reporter. The city was a place The same thing on fake news, conspiracy. TV. Emma's DNC same thing. I don't know. I I You know, It's unbelievable to me. I love small business owners. I love mom and pop shops. I was going to be very blunt and honest. I'm not patting myself on the back here. I'm just saying I tried to do my little part, but just a little part. I ordered more food than I would ever ever in a million years consume. So during covered to show support for my My favorite restaurants. Because I know I know these waiters. I know these cooks and chefs and I know the owners. They're dying. They're trying their best to hang on a lot of them, and a lot of them aren't making it. Man. Just so easy. You know, it's on Let me let me probably shatter another little illusion here. Nobody in TVs should be screaming poverty or or acting like they can. I don't. None of us can I've said many times. Yeah, I'm I used to do real work in restaurants, wash dishes. I was a cook as a bus boy, a waiter bartender. I know people roll their eyes when I say it. House painter. Paper hanger laid tile Did reconstruction fell off a roof Three star. I told all these stories. Was 20 years of my life, though. 20 years of my life. This thing never happened to me. He, you know, because it's you get you get praise you don't deserve If you're in the public eye, you just do. And I just You know what that might believe in God. Two things that keep me somewhat somewhat grounded. Thank God Which is you know why you get to sign autographs. Why is my autograph? More important in the contract? It's not. I know when I'm signing it, But I just, You know, people I want to be nice. I think my customers I'm providing goods and services here. News information that you won't get from the mob. An opinion. News, information and opinion. And You know, it's got its downside to getting the crap kicked out every day, but that's that goes with the territory. I had my team start looking into Mitch McConnell and John Thune's comments, for example, on the biggest corruption, abuse of power scandal in history. I just had them go back and look McCall that a few things he embraced the idea supporting subpoena subpoenas for Obama era officials. Um, and that Senate Republicans are taking steps to issue subpoenas for a variety of Obama administration officials. Operation Crossfire Hurricane And said, You know, um, as if the debacle needed more shocking behavior, understand a federal judge may try to continue prosecuting one of the cases talking about I think the General Flynn case. And certainly you would think the outgoing and Obama administration should have used the awesome power of the federal government to try and pry into their political rivals if they had I'm thinking. Compare that to Mitch McConnell's hatred of Donald Trump and comments about Donald Trump. I don't think any of these politicians starting with Joe wanting to beat the hell out of President Trump when he's president or Kamila Harris. They're not going to stop. They shouldn't stop. We're not going to stop they They're not gonna stop. Take note of both levels. Beware. I'm going to take Trump out tonight. How is that not viewed his insurrections. Same with Same with John Thune. Yeah, The optics are are pretty bad for Biden and the Obama administration. Okay. That's your big comment. Why weren't they leading the charge? Calling out You know, lying on FISA applications, premeditated fraud. Real Russia quote, collusion Hillary's dirty Russian dossier that she bought and paid for misinformation Dossier. Then those that abused power and used it the spine of a presidential candidate and a president. In here a lot of yelling about that. Just unbelievable. Unbelievable. Um there's a lot going on. I will tell you this. I do have this one other thing I wanted to share with you two about energy. Forbes put out a peace outlining issues with the reliability of renewable energy sources nominal the above guy, But right now, the life blood of our economy is oil, gas and coal. Of the world's economy. Anyway, so freezing rain. I had a plunging temperatures is now frozen. Some of these wind turbines solid means there's not enough electricity being produced. At the very moment when it's needed the most. And the ramifications. They go on of changing the current electric grid from carbon And nuclear base sources, toe win solar and other environmental and very environmentally and politically correct sources. Are not esoteric. They're real consequential and even life threatening, they say. Nothing is failsafe, but more traditional sources of energy currently have a leg up. I'm renewables because the infrastructure is hardened. And pervasive old school energy sources were here. First, It's plain and simple. AP reported yesterday about the damage that swept Texas with this winter storm. Knocking out power for more than four million people, shutting down grocery stores and travel. Box business, reporting that the Trump administration's energy energy secretary, The guy that followed Our friend. Governor Perry Rick Perry. What we're seeing today is unavoidable Tragedy. Yeah. You think so? So, like, you know, watching the coronavirus. Um, by the way, we found out that, according to the Daily Mail, Robertson Nero covered 80% of no booze operating costs per legacies. A part owner You know, I'm just like just nothing surprises me anymore. You know, then we You know we're watching. This whole thing that when put took went down yesterday with Governor Cuomo, it's the same with news. Some news from now they have that they have the number of signatures needed and he'd just gonna get a lot of extra so they can guarantee a recall vote out in California. I think every state should have that. And then Andrews out there saying, Well, no, no, no. We have to have separate political spin from facts. Okay? The fact is that he made the choice. He signed the executive order. It's not because nursing homes wanted more money. And it's not because of Donald Trump. 80% of the beds that Trump built, man. All the All the mask gloves gowns. Shields necessary ventilators were given to New York by Trump. They they they didn't use them. And they did send people with covert into nursing homes. It wasn't just people that work there. "I think you're right cause I did watch it recently and it's a good movie, but I do think it does end with New Year's And the only other one I could think of. Was The Godfather. Part Two Godfather part two whether the New Year's Eve party when Michael tells Fredo I knew it was you Now does that make it a New year's themed movie? Or does it just happen to be a movie that has New Year's in it? So what's the difference? Well, one of them the holiday Christmas movies are really centered around the Christmas and Christmas time, but people say Die hards, a Christmas movie. It just happens to occur around Christmas wasn't isn't a movie that occurs around New Year's on New Year's Eve movie or New Year's Day movie, I guess so. But diehard takes place all during that same day, whereas if a movie like when Harry met Sally that takes place over the course of years instead of just the one instance in trading places and at least a similar time frame, I don't know exactly when the beginning and end of it is, but it's relatively quick during Christmas. Yeah, exactly. So there's the least confined area there. So I could see the argument then did you ever hear of that movie on New Year's Day? It was like massive romcom ensemble carriers Day. I think it's called New Year's Day. Jessica Alba. It's one of those movies where it's one of those giant. Everybody's in it. Like who I got to find it because Well, that while saying and doing the show prep, Yeah. Um, if you would like to tell us what a good new year's movie is 1 802 831 on 1.5. If there even is such a thing, Or maybe that's just a figment of my imagination and we'll move on 1 802 831 on 1.5 Michelle Pfeiffer's innit? Zac Effron is in it. Robertson Nero, is it? Wow, Halle Berry's innit Commons in it. Just good deals in it. Seth Meyers is in it. What year is this? This is from 2011. Don't remember New Year's Day of New Year's Eve. Excuse me is the actual name of it. New Year's Eve two years 5.7 on IMDb, So I don't know that's but that one's a little bit more on the nose, and at least that, one says and then Idol New Year's Eve in It all revolves around the course on New Year's Eve with several couples and singles in New York City, so that one is a very strict new year's theme to it. Yeah, it's in the title. Exactly where some of these just revolve around the day. I don't know you could do the argument of well like the die hard argument of it Takes place on Christmas isn't Christmas movie If it does have New year's in it. Think New Year's is different because New Year's is treated differently than Christmas. When Christmas is more of Ah, An event The New Year's Day. Christmas is a whole season. New Year's is New Year's You Can I was gonna say you can kind of two days you come New Year's Eve, which always bleeds into New Year's Day. So if it's about either one New Year's Eve or New Year's Day account of the New year's move, because that's the way you phrased it is a New year's movie. Okay, You got two different days to choose from. You get to toe work with at least so we're gonna take your phone calls coming up at 123 1 on 1.5. We know there are plenty of Christmas movies and Christmas specials. We learned a couple weeks ago that there are a ton of Thanksgiving movies, even though you might not think of Thanksgiving is a holiday. Has a lot of movies, but but apparently there are so we want to know about the holiday this week. We have New Year's Eve coming up in the New Year's day. So is there such a thing? Is there such an animal as a New year's movie at 1 802 831 on 1.5? It's to 18 years, New Jersey fester traffic.

"But it's time now for movie jeopardy. Lisa Wolfe, you're back. We'll play audio clips from popular movies and I'll try to name the movie while you play along at home. Rightly, son. That's exactly right, Carl. So this addition of Hollywood 3 60 will be doing Joe Pesci movie show fashion. He's a lot of fun. I've got a lot of background on Joe, Is there gonna be a lot of peeping out of his words? Because he know our letter words a lot. Worked pretty hard. We're going to avoid any of those four letter word and go from there. We're going to keep this a family show. The first movie we're going to start with is a 1990 crime film. Still, I never saw Jimmy so happy. It was like a kid way have money coming in through my Pittsburgh people. And even after wild Lufthansa thing began to calm down. Made Jimmy so happy that morning was that this was the day that Tommy was being made. I am going to take a wild guess right and say that is good fellow. That is good, fellas. That is right. What a fantastic movie. I can't believe it's from 1990. There you go. Of course, the film started. Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci. Um and did you know that Martin Scorsese who directed this film initially titled The film Wise Guy? No. Yeah, no. There you go. And there was a lot of improv and add living in this. Yes, because Martin Scorsese gave the actors that opportunity and that freedom to do that on I think that's part of what makes that movie is so fantastic. Oh, and it was nominated for six Academy Awards, and Joe Pesci won for best supporting actor. One of the greatest crime dramas of all time. Great. All right, we're going to change gears here a little bit this also in 1990 film, but it's a comedy starring Joe Pesci. Come on, get me You guys give up or you thirsty for more. That is home alone. But a great film produced by John and I Feel like a genius. I got to write. I know you're going to like these. Of course. That was a year genius. Who is hunky Culkin. Something like that. This movie held the record for highest grossing live action comedy until it was over, taken by the hangover part to are to are too right. Oh, no. Where near as good as part one. I agree with you. All right. This next film is one of my favorites. Of course, its stars Joe Pesci, and this clip is one of my favorite moments from the film. So would you say you got a better shot of them going in and not so much coming out? You could say that. I did say that. Would you say that? Yeah. Is it possible? The two youths. To what To you, too. Okay. That is my cousin Vinny. Yes, This is a 1990 domain. Where is the Tomei? And that was that was the fireman Munsterman Monster, And we add Vincent Gabby, the lawyer had recently what a great movie and Marisa Tomei won the Academy Award for best supporting actress. She was She was great. She is and that that scene with the Utes. That is you. Buttes that is, and that is a great moment. Filmmaking. Okay, this next film is a hit three out of three year deal on a second. This is from these Are these are Carl movies? Yes. Is a Carl cat. I love joke. Well, you won't be so lucky. Next time this next film is a 1980 sports drama. Forget it. Forget it. I want you to face him in a fish. Forget about it. Forget about it. Come on. We have fights all the time. Love You show. Thank you Listening. Well, some here and Ah, thank you for having a Leslie the fact that you're in town and he gave us a call the fact that you living in Florida and you listen to the show. Ah, very, very grateful. That peachy sweatshirt, though everyone had those peachy folders in school. Everyone had you get your Breguet her binder. Nice buying every school. Then you get those peachy folders to like two for 25 cents of parents that could afford him. You would write all over him standing about Roman Gabriel. Today's birthday 80 years old. So we're talking about Donald Trump there for second and the fact that Facebook and Twitter of removed team Trump And now We have another threat from this guy. I used to be a huge fan of Robert De Niro. I thought his movies you know, movies like Raging Bull is still probably If not my favorite movie, certainly tied with my favorite movie. I hated so many good movies, gangster movies that I really enjoyed. I was very much into De Niro movies. And Danny starts doing like, Meet the Faulkner's or the just movies that I just Nah, come on. Now you're trying to pay some bills. And I wouldn't go see his movies just cause they just weren't the same style as I was used to. With Robert De Niro. And then, of course, then there was the Infamous. What was it at the Ah Whatever awards show that was One of the many awards shows that I don't watch. "That those crazy clap lines where the applause 0 M goes crazy, that kind of success fantasy. Trickles down, and then you think about somebody like Elizabeth Holmes or the Salinger people or Lance Armstrong, where they'll positively corrupt themselves. Because they're buying into this man on an odyssey. Many valleys, monsters, naysayers, people trying Tio. Take it away from you. And you have to just keep powering through such the Solyndra, the solar panel company, which was out here in the Bay Area, They got to the point where they had 1100 employees, and they had spent $535 million before somebody saying was able to say Uncle I give up. Have you had an occasion where you're reading the tea leaves and thinking I've gotta let go here. Yeah, I mean, I did stand up comedy for years. But then, as soon as it was work, I stopped. I didn't have enough ambition. It was not like my dream. I literally stumbled upon it because it was two per than therapy on I and I got paid. So when I got sober It was harder to dio just because I got a little more sort of mentally and emotionally healthy. And I was just not as goddamn funny anymore. It's not as miserable honestly, the thing I did not give up on in my life that I wanted to, and I'm really glad I didn't Was I started a church from scratch. With a few $100 in a mechanical pencil and my personality and I stuck in it for 10 years, and now it's its own little thing. One of the things I'm the most proud of is that I was the founder of something, and it's doing quite well without me. So was leaving it a big deal, or did you always intend to let it fly on its own? It was super important that I not up by staying too long. I started saying early on at some point, this church is going to need a pastor with a different set of skills than I have. And I hope that we all come to that conclusion about the same time. Ideally, yeah, you know, I started something called notes and words. And it was 10 years old last year, and it's writers and musicians on stage together for Childrens Hospital, And so it's an annual concert in 2000. People go in the last one. We raised $3.3 million in a night. So super fun, Super successful. It took me a really long time, but I just quit on and it's interesting because I quit in the exact same way that you let go of your church, which is to say if Children's hospitals are the kind of thing where the donor's outgrow it overtime. I said When I left, you need somebody who has a five year old, a three year old, a two year old. And they can run it out for the next 10 years. And I hope hope, hope that it continues. But there is a feeling of abandonment. No Oh, yeah, There was a lot that was very difficult for me with walking away, but it was so important to me that I do it well. And that I do it at the right time. Well, that gets to this very important idea, I think, which is that There's a difference. Between giving up and letting go. Okay, I think it's way more than semantics. I was thinking about some of the most gut wrenching giving ups that I know. And then as soon as I Change the words toe letting go. It felt better at a friend to Liz lads who died after seven years of ovarian cancer treatments that were just excruciatingly. She did 88 rounds of chemotherapy and six years and nine months into it. She kind of whispered to me over the phone like I can't do it like you did any more. And it was like you're allowed. Let go. You do not have to stay here and do this. And then I had a friend who had fertility treatments for almost seven years, and she let go and and switch gears and went towards adoption. Yeah. And then I had a friend who was married to a guy who got hooked on meth. And she tried to run tried and he gave up for 90 days and he'd come home and then he'd follow away again and disappear and come back anyway, she finally said, I have to let you go like if I keep holding on to. We're both going to drown. And so I think about With my girls. I I would just die if they Didn't have a way to figure out what to let go of. And what to keep. You know what? Teo? Turn your back on and what to commit Tio. It's really thorny but never give up is not the answer. I mean, that is not a fair mantra. I love that distinction. There's a difference between giving up feels like a failure and letting go feels like just a choice to pivot in another direction. There's so much self awareness baked into letting go. It seems like a thing you would do after a particularly good inventory your emotions around something to say. I am finished. Yeah. Gwyneth culture would call it conscious on couple ing my eyes when I read that, But it is this idea. I do hear someone else Say, doesn't Glennon Doyle said that her marriage was finished? Yes. And I love that. See, this is the thing that really disturbs me. You talked about Counsellors, saying People don't want to get divorced because it would feel like a failure. Well, why can't it just be that a marriage is done like you said. It's served me for this period. I think it's really Disadvantageous for us to continue to see marriage is ending as a failure when it actually is a extremely common and be often such a better choice than 45 50 years of misery. Why is it that staying in a marriage in which neither of you are flourishing, and you just live in this sort of low level? The resentment of the other person, But you didn't give up. Is that successful? You know, Instead of going, I honor you for what you brought to my life for these Children we had and we're going to actually bless each other. To sort of go. I bless you in your departure and you being on another path now. Well, that makes you want to ask the question that you said at the very top, which is Food is the story benefit. Right, because if there's a story that's being promoted that success is marriage until death. And failure is divorce. Who was telling that story? Who's supporting that story? And why Yeah, and who's being harmed by this story? Also, I would just argue there's so many kinds of death. I mean, if you believe until death do you part Death shows up in a lot of ways, You know, it's so interesting. Have you read Victoria Chang a bit? Uh, she's this beautiful poet Allen Bass turned me on to her. Who's also a beautiful bow it it's a book cut a bit. Every single page is a little teeny obituary for a different part of this person's life. Ah, beautiful. Oh, my gosh. It's so beautiful. And now a man, why don't we have a book of blessings for the end of a marriage to bless the other person? Yes, at the end of a job. Totally. Yeah, yeah. Where the end of a pursuit like this is the end of me trying to climb this mountain. And this is the end of me trying to force this project and this is the end of me. China make this housework, You know of me doing housework looking for that blessing, so to say that it's our job to Go out there and share stories very smart, letting go slash giving up moments that air worthy of celebrating and emulating. I have this image in my head from that film the mission. No clubs that DeNiro Robertson Nero has this huge net. He has to climb this cliff to get him to injure. And he has this huge net that's filled with pots and pans and his riches and his stuff and him. Holding on to that is going to kill him. Somebody has to set him free from it. They have to cut those chords so that he can be free. If you think the goal is I have to get to the top with the stuff then you're going to be like I can't give up. You can't give up. And so I guess I wonder with some of this stuff is we get attached to one thing because we aren't honest about what the rial. Actual truth of the goal is because most times the goal is to Have security is toe have safety is to know where loved is to know that we're valued. I think sometimes if they're attached to something that we want to accomplish what's really underneath it is going. Am I valuable? Am I worthy of being seen and my worthy of love and ultimately, that's what we want. So what we can do is to let go of the specificity of this goal..

"One thing to note. This is actually based on a kid's book. My my wife is a teacher. And the last book she read her students was the one and only Ivan, which at least I talked about a couple weeks ago a couple months ago, which was a Disney movie. And she was all excited for that. She actually asked me about the war with Grandpa. I knew nothing about it. And I said, is that is that Why is that a movie for kids? She's like, Yeah, it's based on this book. And the reason I said That is because Robert DeNiro dinner movie about four years ago, 34 years ago called Dirty Grandpa. With Zac Effron, where he was this hard talking obnoxious philanderer, and they went on spring break together What? That movie was full on R rated adult humor. This has nothing to do with it. And I wish they would have figured out some way to differentiate that because even me who works in the movie world I got taken by then I was like, Oh, is this Does this have anything to do with Dirty Grandpa has nothing to do with dirty Grandpa. So this is a kid's movie. This is for families. It's about a like a 12 year old who's in 11 or 12 year old Who's In middle school. It is absolutely for the family crowd. Let me just say that again. This is absolutely a family movie. Don't get confused. I I think that that's important because I think it's very easy to confuse some people. Maybe 30 Grandpa had been have been a big hit would have been harder, but Who knows, But I will say it's a family movie. It's a kid's movie, and the story is is pretty no routine. We've seen this kind of thing before. Where there's there's sort of a feud between two people, So it's It's kind of a familiar story. I think it's kind of amazing about it is the cast they put together. Robertson Nero being in it. Robert DeNiro is dunce. Um ah. He's done some out of the box stuff. He's done some risks lately, especially later in his career. I mean, not every movie is going to be a Martin Scorsese Oscar nominee like Irishman last year. But they got like UMA Thurman to play the mom and I haven't seen her in a movie. I honestly the last movie I saw her in was nymphomaniac. And that thing was like 678 years ago. Something like that. She's been out of the limelight for a while. But you also have his friends played by Christopher Walken and Cheech Marron, who are a hoot. By the way, they're very funny walk ins great in everything he does, even even in jail. He was in the movies, easily one of the worst movies Hollywood has made this century. He's in that, and he's actually funny in his limited performance. So I love walking in it, I think teach Marin's very funny you got Jane Seymour. Also in there is sort of like the old people contingency. You got Rob Riggle as a father, so they got actually a really good cast. And the kids work well, but the point is, is the kids they they work with Robert De Niro and it's this middle schooler who wants his room back. So of course, they're playing tricks on each other and pranks back and forth, and we've seen That exchange of pranks before and it gets over the top and crazy kind of like, you know, one of those daddy's home movies that that will Ferrell. It's something that you would expect to see welfare. Maybe one. Will Ferrell gets to be grandfather age. This would be a will Ferrell kind of movie for him. Or something that the original Chevy Chase before he got old and fat and problematic to work with. It's something you would have seen him do like like as a National Lampoon's vacation movie. You know, it's not a great movie. It's not a revelation. It doesn't really do anything terribly new, but it's funny. I got to say it's funny. It's entertaining. There's some humor in there. That's squarely for the family audience. There's a couple things that fly high enough over the kids heads that the adults are going to get it. But they're not going to be so obvious that they're going to ruin anything for kids. There's a couple godfather callbacks in the movie. If you would go watch the trailer. You see one of them in there that the kids aren't gonna understand unless they've seen the Godfather. And why would they I mean, the Godfather is a great movie, but it's not exactly something A five year old's gonna enjoy. But these air this is the cute little movie. It's like something you would have seen on the Disney Channel. Maybe a higher grade. You know, like when I talked about that Secret Society for second borns, either last week or the week before that seems to be an elevated level of Disney Channel tight movie on this one kind of feels the same way always not made by Disney, but it feels like something that would be on Nickelodeon or Nickelodeon films would have done ah couple years ago. So, Yeah, I kind of enjoyed how surprised I was like, Oh, this is going to suck, but but you know what? It kind of worked out. I kind of enjoyed it. So I'm gonna have to say the war with Grandpa kind of rocks. It kinda rocks. You're listening to fat guys at the movies with Kevin Car. Let's talk about the haunting of blind manner. Based on the ghost stories of Henry James. This Netflix series follows an AU pair who gets a job in England watching over to troubled youngsters. Let's come up with a story. I know it losses. Your parents loved you so so much. Anyway, they'll always be here. Things Thiss.
