"We're talking entertainment with Dean Richards. Indeed, before your weekend picks. And you have to ask you about this campaign to get Jeff Goldblum on Saturday night Live. He's hosted a couple times. But now I guess on social media, they want him, Teo, be the fly because of what happened to Mike Pence. I am so curious to see what they're going to do with the fly on on SNL this weekend. That would be so fantastic and I can completely see Jeff. Go boom. Being being up for it. Hey, has not had any comment on it. But that is all the talk that is on on SNL. Right now. There's even there's even Ah, tweet. I don't know if it's a real picture. It's Jeff Goldblum looking at his phone A CZ though he's Shocked reading Ah, email or a text. That, says the Jeff Goldblum reading text from Lorne Michaels, asking if he's available to play the fly on the cold opening Saturday night live, so we'll see. It's been so interesting, you know, to see what's happened. There are fly swatters with Ah, Biden Harris fly swatters going for 10 bucks that are for sale. They're all kind of means I Ah, as a result of this How hilarious slash incredibly sad is it that we have a debate of the vice presidential candidates? For the United States of America, and all anyone is talking about is a fly that landed money. Pence's there. Only his hair color had been different People wouldn't have noticed it as much. Well, sad but true. So besides the new Saturday Night live, what else could we watch this weekend? Well, the really the one thing that I'm really recommending. Is this new Siri's that is going to be on Disney Plus It is on Disney. Plus, starting today called the Right stuff. You remember the movie probably loved. It's one of my favorite movies of all time from back in 1983 about the US Space program, the Mercury seven. Astronauts. This new series is based on all of that. It's based on the Mercury seven astronauts, but this one is a little more personal. It delves Mohr into their family lives what their wives are going through what their families are going through. It's not just about the seven guys, but There's just something about this early space program, You know, maybe it's for people our age that you know. We remember when it was happening and how exciting it was, and they would wheel a television set into the classroom. If John Glenn was, you know, going up, or you know, if anything was happening in the space program, everything stopped so you could watch it. I remember even People naming their kids, John, you know, first name John second named Glen. People were so into the space program back then. But this you know, I think feeds into that and it's really well done. The There are many big names in it. But ah, really good performances by the cast really good plot lines, and it is produced by National Geographic and by Leo Nardo DiCaprio. It's not. It's not a documentary in any way, but You know, full feature, but definitely worth watching. And as I mentioned, it's on Disney. Plus, you know, stuff. I wasn't goingto watch it because I love the Tom Wolfe book. I loved the movie. I've seen it a couple times and I thought now this is just going to be the same old stuff or not is good, but What you said about going more into the personal lives makes me want to watch it. Yeah, I've the first two episodes air available right now. This is going to be An eight hour Siri's in the first two episodes are available this week, and now they're going toe, you know, feed them out to us in subsequent weeks, But that really is my pick of the week. I highly recommend it. All right. What else we looking at? We have a I guess. An okay comedy that reminded me a little bit of home alone called the war with Grandpa. With Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken, UMA Thurman, Cheech Maren Jane Seymour Robbery goal. It's got kind of an All Star cast and the A young boy in the movie's name is Oak Figley. Everything is going great, but grandpa moves in with his daughter's family. And takes over the the little boy's room, something that no little boy would ever want toe happen where you lose your most prized possession in life. Your room. S o. He sets out to get get rid of Grandpa. I don't mean to kill him, but Teo get him to go someplace cells. So it becomes a war between the Little kid and Robert De Niro, the grandfather. And it's It's just okay. I mean, you know, it's it's harmless. It's not great. I almost wouldn't even call it good. But it's you know, a lighthearted comedy and you know these days, I guess, uh, will take any port in the storm. You know, kidding. It is that one is on ly in select theaters, so that one you will not be able to watch online. On Amazon Prime this weekend. There is interesting kind of a psychological thriller called Black Box Story about Ah, man who is in a terrible car accident. Luke completely loses his memory and is struggling to try to regain his memory again. With the help of a AH doctor, played by Felisha Rashad, the young man in the movie who loses his memory is fairly new Actor has been in a few products, but his name is Mom Mom a day off, and it's kind of interesting. It's It's almost a little side fiish there is on HBO, Max. A story about the dirt bike culture. Of the inner city of Baltimore. That's called charm Kings. Another movie that I highly recommend. He was called deaf. You It is a docuseries. That follows a group of deaf students at a private college for the deaf and hard of hearing man. It's it's a little bit like a reality show that follows A bunch of college students and what they're going through in their life. This one is a very unfiltered look at the highs and lows not only of their college life but inside the world of people. With hearing loss A CZ wells and this one is also on eight episodes. Siri's Called deaf you and that is on Netflix. You're looking for a couple of Halloween picks for the weekend. Adam Sandler's got a new movie that's called Hubie Halloween in which he plays his usual manchild character, a guy Who loves Halloween and is determined to save the town of Salem, Massachusetts. From an escaped psych ward. Inmate typecasting here. Steve Bushemi plays the cycle Word inmate, of course s Oh, it's It's a very irreverent Halloween movie. If if this were being released into theaters, it probably would be rated R. Maybe a soft are there is some profanity and it There's tons of, you know, body fluid jokes and it's It's not for little kids, I would say, you know, 13. And above, If you like those kind of Adam Sandler movies that one was on Netflix, Also on Netflix is AH movie A Siri's rather that is called the haunting of Bligh manner. Is the story about an American Opare goes to England takes job taking care of two kids in a giant mansion. Where her part where the kid's parents have died. And it's a little bit more of a traditional Halloween tale. Doesn't really break any new grounds. But if you're looking for something that's a little bit creepy for Ah, Halloween. The haunting of Bligh Manner is the name of that one and a Ximen Shinde earlier in the week. They released season six of the comedy Shits Creek on Netflix this week is well, It's the sixth and final season. So if you're looking for some legit laughs, they don't get much betterthan that bring on the weekend or you have a good one YouTube. Thank you, Dean. "I like this one run. Good. I I went on a mission last night boys lot of mission because. I knew it was going to be a knew it was going to be a third, but I wanted I wanted. I wanted to share it with toys. Sip I. I went and found on my little streaming service that I have which shall remain nameless. the, war, with GRANDPA. Okay Robert. fucking piece of Shit Up Robert De Niro Christopher Walken. 'cause I knew it was going to be awful and you know what it was. Sorry. What it was fucking awful. Shit. My God. Mike Mike. Mike Mike Mike having his death areas right now. You don't understand I wanted to watch a bad movie last night and guess what I did. And he realized what I what I realized was that. Obviously if you know anything about the movie. It's it's a family movie. It's made to be watched with with kids and stuff like that, and therefore is on a different level in that realm as a family movie. It wasn't that bad but the reason that occurred with the reason it's a turn. It's awful is because I don't WanNa see Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken in a fucking family movie I just. Talk. This is. The hotel. Mike Nixon Tears Tearing crying because I watched it. Can't even begin. Craft. Fuck it. Costs this much pain and So I don't recommend it like give it one out of ten. It was it was just fucking awful and predictable and everything you thought it was gonna be an oh, an anti-war narrative weaved in between the whole thing So. Anything. The only thing worse than family movie is a Preachy family movie doesn't matter what the messages and just don't want to just don't want it. So. He said good. So you're going to have to watch the movie then find out for yourself. No. We'd look on that.

That is, perhaps perhaps The end of the line for horse has been that mistreated. But as I said, yes, you know, repeat many times. So you hear it? I hope Help the horse is going to be okay, Uncle air, but I don't want to pile on here. But basically what you just said, is what the prosecutor said in court. And yesterday you basically accused the prosecutor's off making all that up to keep this man in jail. No, no, I just said that sometimes. The media. Can trump things up. Blow them up out of proportion is just reporting what the prosecutor said in court. The media didn't obtain this information from anyone other than the prosecutor so anyway. Is that is a checkmate. Then you win. No, no, no, no, no, I don't wanna win. I don't wanna win. I just I just think you were a little bit insensitive and your friend sounds like he's he agrees that he was outraged. That's what people ask me on the street. So I'm GonNa take you through these main categories and and we'll see what will win what should win and we can argue. You can find me somewhere and we can argue about it. But I'm going to start with with best supporting actress. Because that's how the Academy Awards those that's always the first award that we say Kathy Bates in Richard Jewel. Laura dern in marriage in story Scarlett Johansson in Joe Rabbit Florence Pew in Little Women and Margot Robbie in bombshell so look. There's it's a lot of good people here and I have to say right at the outset. That Scarlett Johansson is one of those rare actors that has a nomination as best actress. Chris and best supporting actress marriage story for Best Actress in here supporting which usually gets you to win one and that usually that it's usually that one but it's it's not going to happen you know I'm sitting here saying did I read wrong. What happened to Jennifer Lopez and hustlers? Hasn't she been in this game since the release Lisa Hustler she has and yet the academy you bad people have decided that J.. Lo just wasn't Oscar material while you're wrong but look we we have to deal with rats here and I'm going to say that the person who will win in this category is also the person who should win. And that is Laura Burn and Laura dern in marriage story plays a divorce lawyer and she's a tough one and let's think of all the Hollywood people that are voting for this award and how every single one of them I'll wager. A BET has their own divorce lawyer and has been through this process. Maybe more than once. Maybe two we're three times to do it. And they find Laura Dern Dunn's in this movie something spectacular it's also one of the few awards. I think that marriage story story is going to win. But Laura Dern has never won an Oscar. This will be her first time. Everyone loves her. We all love and big little lies and I think this is her time on so let her have it all right. I'm moving onto best supporting actor. Tom Hanks in a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Anthony Hopkins in the two popes Al Al Pacino in the Irishman Joe Pesci in the Irishman and Brad Pitt in once upon a time in Hollywood. Look you're talking to a big Irishman fan here so if it was me saying come up for the gold it would be Joe. Patchy I know Joe Pesci doesn't do any publicity. He basically sticks fix to himself. He's probably tough guy in real life as the gangster that he plays in the Irishman but that performance is amazing and won won his first Oscar for another score says he movie goodfellas where he was the most scary gangster. You can see here. He's kind of quiet dawn. So if I'm I'm giving them it would be Joe Patchy but the academy is giving this award and no one. No one can win. This except Brad Pitt. These other people here Tom Hanks Anthony Hopkins Al Pacino and Peci all have won Oscars so they already have the gold. Do you realize his full career. Brad Brad Pitt has never won an academy award game over people. This is it Brad. You're going to get in once upon a time in Hollywood playing a stuntman. It man playing somebody who's been around the business. I think it's irresistible for Hollywood to say I'm going to reject one of my own. Plus he was great in the movie. You seem to hear my voice that I have a little bit of a problem. Yeah I do. Because that's not a supporting performance at all that his part is the equal who of his Co Star Leonardo DiCaprio's WHO's nominated for best actor. So why is he in that category. I think they want to win. And Brad you might as well prepare repair your speech right now okay. I am now moving onto best actress. Cynthia Haribo in Harriet Scarlett Johansson in marriage story. Sir Sharon in little women. Charlie's Sharon in bombshell and Renee Zellweger in Judy. What Best S. actress award so far from the Golden Globes to the critics choice awards has it Renee Zellweger one? She's won all of them. So is there any possibility ability here for something else. I mean. Look what Charlie. Stern did in bombshell. She not only plays Megan Kelly. The makeup geniuses have made her look exactly exactly like her and Charlie's has talked exactly like are they love bio pics there so she should be really strong. Social Ronin is like twenty five years old. She's he's on her fourth Oscar nomination. This is incredible and Scarlett Johansson. Like I said nominated for best. Supporting actress and Best Actress. Cynthia revolt is playing Harry Tubman and she also wrote the song from the movie which is nominated. That happened to somebody last year. Didn't it yes it was lady. Eating Gaga Lady Gaga was nominated for writing that wonderful song from stars born and his best actress. But what did you win. She won best song and that was it so I have to say that again. I would give this award person late to search for Ronin just because I think to be that young and to be that consistently brilliant is amazing and her performance in little women. Is that good. But it's Rene as I talk about. How Hollywood would love bio-pics this is? Judy Garland that she's playing judy. This is one of their own. Did they ever give. Judy Garland her own Oscar Competitive Competitive Acting Oscar. Never and I think for that reason not only will renee Zellweger win best actress but she will win for Oscar. Judy Garland on never had. It's their way of saying Judy. We love you. We were so stupid not to give it to you. And we're going to give it to Rene in honor of you. This is how Hollywood works. It's really crazy. But if you're betting on this you have to bet crazy. Aright best actor Antonio Banderas in pain and gory. Leonardo di Caprio in once upon a time in Hollywood Adam driver in marriage story what came Phoenix and joker and Jonathan Pryce in the two popes. I look at this category and before I get into. Who Will Win and who should win? I've I've got to say academy what you have against Comedians. And what do you have against Eddie Murphy. That he's not nominated for Dole. Might as my name what you have against Adam Sandler who proved his dramatic chops in uncut gems. Like nobody can believe and yet they have it they only like to give Oscars to actors serious actors who played comic roles. Ause they hate anybody who's making a living as a comic to actually win this war so this year's been going along I've had this feeling that this was Adam drivers to lose that performance in marriage story is one of the best things he's ever done or that I've seen this year and yet there's this other guy and who's that other guy he's Joaquin Phoenix plane joker. Sometimes there's that kind of performance sometimes. There's there's one that just so dominates the screen. That is such an act of immersion of from an actor in a raw. Yeah Joaquin was scary. He was sometimes funny. He was always touching even though he's playing somebody who's totally out of his mind and a lot of this movie his in his mind. What Cain has been nominated several times before and never one Joaquin? This is yours. I can't believe any set of circumstances. Stances if you WANNA bet the whole house on something and somebody to win it's going to be Joaquin Phoenix as best actor for joker game over all right. We're ready now to move on. I'm going to best director now. This is one of the most exciting categories because these people will these particular men and save and because Hollywood as wont of decided that even though there were more women directing movies than ever before four last year. They couldn't find any to nominate which is of course absurd because Greta Gerwig directed little women which is nominated as best picture and they. I thought no I'm just GONNA do five men like we always do what happened. You people sort of learned a couple of years ago when you nominated Greta. GERWIG quick for Ladybird didn't give it to her. But you nominated her. The KADEMI is ninety two years old. Now how many women has given an academy award for directing one. And that's Kathryn Bigelow for hurt locker. Ninety two years one award hang your head in shame name anyway not knocking any of these men that did get nominated. But there's one in there that I would sacrifice for Greta Gerwig but you you try to guess who that is anyway. Here they are. Martin Scorsese the Irishman Todd Phillips. For Joker Sam Mendes for nine thousand nine hundred Seventeen Quentin Tarantino eighteen. O for once upon a time in Hollywood and Bung June hope for parasite every one of these guys you can make a case for. Martin Scorsese Z.. To me is a master the grandmaster who only has one Oscar for directing and then the Irishman is doing some of his best work. Ever Quentin Tarantino. Not No with once upon a time in Hollywood is also a peak form and yet I'm saying this category is going to between two other the directors one of them being the South Korean Vong June Hall for parasite a Foreign Language Film. That seems to have got everybody excited about what's possible and then Sam Mendes for nine hundred seventeen a world war one movie that is constructed to look like it was done in in one continuous. Take how do you resist that. You don't even though I think they would really like to give their best director award worked. Bon John. How it's going to be for Sam Mendes for creating a war movie like no war movie we've ever seen before so sam I think think it's yours but if you're getting out there and you WanNa go to Bung Jun Ho? You know you might do it because there's always a surprise in these contests we can't go. Oh by what the odds are we have to go by sometimes the academy saying I have an instinct for this. I have a feeling this is the right way to go all right last category. Are we ready best picture of the year Ford versus Ferrari the Irishman Joe. Joe Rabbit Joker her little women marriage story nineteen seventeen once upon a time in Hollywood and parasite here is is the one you know every year I do this. It's between one or two movies this year. I can't reduce anything to to the Irishman my estimation a classic one for the ages. Martin Scorsese. Ed Is Best Robert De Niro Pacino. Joe Patchy making a mob movie about old-age age about the end of a mobster. This is the punishment that they get for the lives they live. There's nobody in their lives there alone. It's a tragedy Quentin went and Tarintino. Once upon a time in Hollywood is writing about Hollywood in the sixties and about a time that he thought was the last creative burst of Hollywood Hollywood and doing that. Nineteen seventeen again the World War One movie shot to make it look like. It's one continue steak and parasite a movie about a Korean Rian family in which they exploited the people they work for and then are exploited by the people working for them it is a classic. These are four incredible classics. So what am I gonNA do. What am I going to tell you? What's out there that you have to say? This is the winner and I'm going to go with with all excuses. No excuses in fact to my love for the Irishman. But I think this is the year of Quentin Tarantino. I I think once upon a time in Hollywood being a love letter to Hollywood and being voted on by people who live and work in Hollywood Quentin Tarantino despite right brilliant work with pulp fiction inglorious bastards reservoir dogs Django unchained has never won a Best Picture Oscar or a best director Oscar. Never it's never happened. What better time than now? When he saying Hollywood I love you? I think it's time Hollywood to say to Quentin Tarantino. I love you back back. So you've got it watch the show and afterwards we'll have a discussion.

Hollywood Oscar Brad Brad Pitt Scarlett Johansson Quentin Tarantino Laura Dern Academy Awards Joe Pesci Director Renee Zellweger Joe Patchy Charlie Martin Scorsese Judy Garland Leonardo Dicaprio Tom Hanks Joaquin Phoenix Irishman Peter Travers

Awards Season: Oscar Nominations

"We have the golden globes recently today we get the critics choice awards tomorrow very early in the morning they will be announcing the academy award nominations so it's the awards season some times we can glean what will probably happen with the Academy Awards by what happens in the golden globes not always sometimes many times it's wall has been monitoring the critics choice awards and I think we should start there to see if maybe the critics choice awards are either going or falling in line with the golden globes or offering a different message if you will as far as what should be honored this year from first look the critics have got a much more on point and then lie with me then the glow okay let's go down some the category Best Actor yes Joaquin Phoenix for joker given that Best Actress Renee Zellweger for Judy yes best supporting actor Brad Pitt for once upon a time in Hollywood surprises there yep best supporting actress Laura Dern for marriage story he didn't see it heard was okay best young actor romaine Griffin Davis for the judge a rabid movie don't know if there are a lot of kids related films on there but Hey sure give it to him best acting ensemble the Irishman art is a good okay good let's look let's let's slow down and talk about that but what I don't know if they're put it this way is far as acting goes I was very underwhelmed by the Irishman I I really think people are more impressed by the names will histories and legacies of the people involved in the movie as opposed to the actual performances most people were saying that they really like the the understated performance of Joe Pesci yeah it was nice he didn't really cost a lot he didn't beat anyone with a baseball bat but as far as an acting performance I don't think was all that special I don't think Robert de Niro's performance as the Irishman was special it wasn't anything that I said wow that was vintage Robert Dinero it wasn't like there was any particular moment or monologue or passage the people will come away and say we're gonna be quoting that for years we can quote the godfather we can quote good fellas in an area casino what have you there wasn't really anything all that special quotable about the Irishman as far as the ensemble cast it was great to have all these big names together yeah but they had big names together in the Expendables did make it a great movie big names who were to gather it almost seemed like he was with one last ride together for these particular group of actors for this particular genre and I had heard all the hype in I'm a guy who loves the godfather yeah I'm a guy who loves casino and Goodfellas varying degrees but I loved the genre as a whole love the sopranos so that's something I I I know this genre I appreciate the genre when I saw the Irishman it was really weird it was weird what they did to Robert De Niro and his allies making them blue or whatever so he looked like the actual person it was not necessary they could have chosen a different actor if you're gonna do all that was extracting I did like the fact that it's so it's a movie based on real people real incidents in history and it almost quite like the have the story line and as real events happened it breaks away in the show you this person was actually killed by a bullet to the head nineteen seventy one or whatever and I'll show you a still frame of the actual crime scene or something like that that's something I enjoy it but as far as the acting performances there were not we talk about Star Wars hi Scott Walker same thing in the sense of there were no wow moments for me there was nothing which said to me is like wow I've never seen that before no they were getting killed by basically getting whacked like okay we seen people get whacked like this before because they've already told all those stories just changing the name to fictional people another movie so what we see the Irishman which is based on true events and everything not special I didn't think the performances were special that's not a number that are best acting ensemble right okay I would rather Avengers with that because as far as I'm concerned the acting by Robert Downey junior in Avengers in game was stellar okay well I mean look got it and maybe that's why Avengers in game got best action movie finally can best visual effects of got best animated feature is difficult yes yeah best costume design yes Ruthie Carter for dolomite is my name give it to him let's stop right there if you haven't seen dolomite is my name please see it isn't available on Netflix I think you will view Eddie Murphy in a whole different light a whole new light any have best comedy yeah I agree Eddie Murphy has not only reinvented himself but in this particular performance he's just an actor he's not telling jokes like a comedian he is embodying Rudy ray Moore someone completely different and it's telling you the story of how Rudy ray Moore had to reinvent himself from musician to stage performer two eight kind of comedian telling almost wraps stories on stage right right if you know the history and this is a quintessential LA movie in the sense of Rudy ray Moore is inextricably linked to the history of arts and entertainment in Los Angeles yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah you will recognize the landmarks and everything and that is why eighty Murphy deservedly so also got the lifetime achievement award other film awards go to Quentin Tarantino for once upon a time in Hollywood no surprise a Best Director it was a tie Sam Mendes for nineteen seventeen and bomb June hole for parasite can we just go ahead and assume given Hollywood's reaction and also the foreign correspondents reaction to nineteen seventeen that that's probably going to be best picture Best Actor definitely nominated tomorrow for the Oscar nominations yeah we'll probably will win and I say that for this reason for the foreign correspondents association for the golden globes to give nineteen seventeen best drama award what are the ward was and it had not even been released in theaters yet at that point bright I just said to me that it leaves the Hollywood portion critics correspondence whatever they pretty much made up their mind which says to me Hollywood as far as the voting academy members have pretty much made up their mind and they've probably already decided that this is going to be the movie I've heard nothing but superlatives about it I haven't seen it but I'm just reading the tea leaves it is going to get the nomination but I'm saying if I were to place any money nineteen seventy this Best Picture and Best Director just because of all these other indications I'm getting I agree totally agree best sci-fi or horror which is in an Oscar related category not to to my knowledge but us it's good thank I I I I saw the movie everything was great yeah so I'll be in Emma Jordan Peele fan but I did think the movie is great I do appreciate how he tells very different stories that's the story we haven't seen before I can I can watch it and say like wow that's something different is not the typical horror stories come to typical sci fi story has a little twist at the end is what he usually is going to do now is going to be known for that in the way that M. night Shyamalan is known for that I can appreciate what he does I just didn't think the movie was spectacular yeah but I don't know who would love you to hear it I don't know what was up again so when we come back we'll continue with these critics choice awards and also forecast possibly with coming tomorrow morning with the Oscar nominations this the

"You'll you'll see you'll see how the joker when you watch it pay attention to the name of the night club and when you actually watching Joaquin Phoenix when he becomes the joker ugh if you watch the movie get on your computer type up pogo the clown John Wayne Gacy and you'll definitely see a distinct comparison between gate she stays paid and Joaquin Phoenix Phoenix AZ face paid as the joker fascinating now we'll get into a cold casting again a little bit later this is something that you you're always on the watch for a cold casting if I'm not mistaken again haven't I have not seen the joker but there is a kind of a cameo by Robert De Niro in the film and de Niro it kind of harkens back to his his role as Rupert pumpkin in the king of comedy work he plays a kind of a failed stand up comic what's going on there right absolutely this is where your hot spot testing I court a court case thing some people maybe it's really more it's not type casting because that's his case in the same got to play the same record over and over again of what what I call cold case because when you place an actor in in a movie to conjure resurrected your sub conscious minded earlier performance that is directly related to the movie that they're now appearing in and did Nero's you're you're absolutely right the nearest appearance in joker is designed to resurrected your sub conscious mind to previous Martin scorcese movies one you just named which is the king of comedy which mirrors joker where you have this sort of loner loser character played by de Niro pumpkin pocket living what is it in the basement of his mother how mother's house you see you think she's stayed up comedian he's a fascination with night late night talk show host **** comedic mountain down by my type talk show host I destroyed by Jerry Lewis in the original king of comedy and it is what you have going what a joker where are you Arthur Fleck character played by Phoenix he lives with his mother is as loner downtrodden character and is fascinated and and and has this sort of our natural fascination with this character.

The Entertainment of 2019: Year in Review

"It interesting year for of the world of entertainment and in terms of the movie screen to get to this explosion of Netflix and all these other different platforms you don't have to go to the big movie theater unless you want the full immersive experience and I always suggest you also get some cookies because as the time of the year but just I think the wives with you enjoy the experience but but I know some of the things the fact you have this posted on your website James person dot com is the ruling over a declining box office because here we have all this if you know the big money is made international especially China will than that with the whole trade the issues going back and forth the editing of certain films so what's going on here is this eventually the demise of the traditional box office expectations in the traditional theaters another been saying that for years with new technology well it it's being yeah it's shrinking kind of traditional movie other than the big franchise brand box office because even though the box office has gone down for the fifth time this decade it's down a record number and the executives and the Hollywood met and many of them I work with they are living in a kind of a denial world I I they know that if these two technological things are you spoke about the fact that you can have a very powerful home theater experience now you know with everybody has a big screen high definition television you're bringing some robots was a I they could pretend like they're part of the crowd you know they can make noise going on cell phones whatever you like yeah but usually because Disney bought Lucasfilm and marble and they have all the biggest intellectual property ownership concept movies they took eighty percent of the top ten so the top ten films of the year eight out of the ten from Disney that's a record Disney also took in ten billion dollars worldwide in their film box office which is also a record but at the same time the box office is down the number of people go to the movies is down and I think it's not just because of the technology I think it's because of the contact and I think what it is is that there's these old concepts things like story characters people long for in his words of Martin Scorsese got highly criticized for speaking out against Marvel superhero movies but there there are more of like a thrill ride in many cases than they are white the kind of story telling that Hollywood became famous for and so because of that you know like the number one movie by actually number one movie of the year and of all time is the ventures and gag which is always the classic not that it's it's a bad movie I mean it's an entertaining movie buddy it's it's all action special effects sci fi superhero fantasy type thing and the others get in the top ten there's captain Marvel there's spider man far from home with the Star Wars the latest Star Wars wars installment the risers creek sky worker these are all from the same bill during it yet all marble or Lucasfilm in there these kinds of movies many of course you have sequels like Toy Story four and frozen was it the golden read books and we're gonna get more and more is that all is well yeah but some of that you get to the new generations and its radio Disney used to do as a by the way for the tuning in talking James person Jim person dot com is my second house over a pop culture among other things but you know Disney had a formula for years back to real DHS and everything else stay AT and into the theaters before that alone every seven years or so they would release like Snow White or something and then they'd go back into the vault and the they keep capturing new generations was masterful now one of the big deals this year's Disney plus the debt is just phenomenal with with what's there you don't really need a lot of other things but it's it's it's all available now so that's another example of how quickly the staff changes your inner exactly what you're talking about by the way for new generations of a new iteration was the remake it with live action The Lion King which was the number two movie any captured a whole new generation of of movie that had captured a previous generation so yeah Disney has the intellectual property so that when they launch their streaming service Disney plus they did something that a lot of people in Hollywood one really freaked out about and then they had a a movie starring Anna Kendrick cold no well it was never released in any it went direct to streaming we haven't even heard that concept direct just dreaming twenty one Disney does it then the people in the industry say oh my gosh this is a trend in the Irish men bad movie that's generating all the on her because of her the foreman should Martin Scorsese unfortunately it has that crazy man Robert De Niro at that but he's consistent and you got a treatment because his movie the molar report on ice the musical didn't do well this year so what is so loved that concept I really do I really do and I I would have given them the Laurie yeah I would go see that if Robert Muller was ice skating I would go see it for sure but but this one it went there was a lady and the tramp remake Disney which and that way director strict streaming I was mentioning the Irishman and there's another movie called marriage is story these are both Oscar bait movies after only one month they went streaming so there could be a new trend in that's good that caters to people that create their own entertainment peered at home and but the only thing is I mean I anecdotally I mean I have friends an average six myself I remember you know we were when we just had cable and all of a sudden we had out hundreds of cable channels and sitting there and I couldn't find anything to watch on cable channel and now people experience that they say oh I'm going through the cable channels I'm going through Netflix I don't see anything I want to watch so I'm gonna watch it's a wonderful life for the eighteen hi so that means there's a vacuum out there for I guess what we would call traditional entertainment and maybe family friendly which is by the way in the end that's where Hollywood makes most of its money because all the top ten films are pretty much the you know there there's no all over you friendly films at the most there's a P. G. thirteen type superhero films that have some action scenes chill Hollywood makes its money with family friendly films and then they attack families with the awards speaking of

Critics’ Choice: ‘The Irishman,’ ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ Lead Movie Nominations

"Two hours talk to Kevin car this morning good morning Kevin Kevin Kerr our entertainment guy who has the the nominations out today from the critics choice association the CC a it's the twenty fifth time you guys have done this and I guess that you have you must have voted for some of these nominations right good morning Michael yeah I'm actually pretty happy with how the nominations have come out we've got them ready for the critics choice awards which happens on Sunday January twelfth at seven PM on the C. W. and this is it's it's what's leading the list is the Irishman with fourteen nominations which is of course marks were Stacey's latest almost Robert deniro Al Pacino Joe Pesci all getting nominations for acting others also once upon a time in Hollywood Quinn turned taking those look back at that what could happen in the sixties start with twelve nominations along with little women getting nine nominations nineteen seventeen which is Sam Mendes's the upcoming World War one epic I am a marriage story with eight Jo Jo rabbit the joker in Paris like each get seven so it's been spread around for the nominations it looks like there's a lot of great movies on Netflix yes speaking of spreading things around you got a couple of actors you're getting nominations both for movie and for television work which I think is interesting well yeah you got Laura Dern whose whose you guys having a bit of a resurgence in her career she's got both for big little lies a marriage story the critics choice nominations include both television and movies and another big win is is for streaming not only is that happening with of course big nominations for Netflix of Amazon it on the chart television side but the Irishman is is that a huge win for Netflix getting that many nominations I think there are almost thirty this twenty nine nominations for Netflix alone with you in the film categories did speaking of the Irishman so we mentioned Dinero Ficino Joe Pesci from that for Best Actor Pacino at and I guess Joe Pesci best Supporting Actor in it's a very different performers from him it's not the over the top crazy guy very restrained in and is that what it took to get him out of retirement well I think working with Martin Scorsese again was a big deal working with Robert De Niro yeah but it did give them the opportunity because they do a de aging process digitally so this movie is also getting visual effects awards but that gives a batch you chance to play a very different character which is I think what got him such traction this time around I think the biggest problem he's got is he a member of the channel might split the vote for fans of the Irish men and might end up going to somebody else yeah well merit story you know coming in with a lot of nominations and including I guess a screen plays as well so I I I I know I've heard that this is a real predictor for the Oscars how is that does that real yeah I mean it's nothing thirty six actually we got the golden globe nominations showing up later today which are also seen as somewhat of a projector the reason this one China other critics choice awards a lines a little bit more is because they don't split out drama versus comments on are you voted for the nominations do you also vote for the final

"Do. Now Is Academy Award winning actor Director and producer. Robert Deniro. I am trying not to speak out. It is so exciting to see you. Thank thank you for being here. I want to talk about the movie in a moment but I have to first start off by asking you because of all of the events that are happening. There's going to be live televised hearings for impeachment next week. You've been very tough on Donald Trump. What do you think? What do you think that impeachment could actually accomplish? Do you think that the American people at this point having lived through three years almost at this guy are actually soup. Still surprise. -able well I just think that he if we don't go through impeachment inquiry. We're letting him get away with something he can't get away he's just you just got to move forward and take chances tactically or strategically. Might it feels you know what happens. It'll give him more ammunition later but he has done something wrong he has to pay. Hey for that. He has to be put on notice pay for it. Even if the Republicans will not finally go through with impeaching him everybody else has gone on through the symbolic motions of he has to be held accountable period. And you want to talk about the two films that you're in and just sort of make a kind of a connection here you you know. Obviously you play the guy who the moment with the man who's becoming the joker the kind of pivotal moment where he fully embraces that sort of negative identity entity is with your character but he also is Egged on by other people to do the chaotic things that he's doing where people who are angry and feel disaffected and so they pushed him to keep doing more bad things. And then your new movie. In the Irishman this idea of donald trump sort of having a gangsterism around him of of behaving like a gangster or maybe behaving at the behest of gangsters like the leader of Russia. Those things do seem to tie to him right because it is. It's is curious to me why people follow him. I'm I am completely. I have no idea why they follow him. Because he's not even a good gangster he's he can't even keep his word about anything he's I think in the real gangster world he wouldn't last long he lashed long in his own little real real estate world where he's the boss because he's the boss and he heard it all that money and he's he's a fool but in the real world he who wouldn't last long that's my feeling. Yeah it's interesting because people seem to be afraid of him but it isn't clear to me why when you ask. Why are people afraid? They're like because he'll tweet at me. Yeah he what bothers me more. What concerns me more is that someone will come along this a lot? Worse Don trump. He's just a to He's done but when you get somebody who comes along who smart. Who knows how to work it and is more material and can be sympathetic? When they need to be sympathetic he has none of that? He has not one speck of sympathy empathy for anything or anybody. So he's just stupid to she doesn't know and in a way we're lucky in a certain way we're lucky because because we can see it so clearly but as I say I'm worried generation two-three from now this is going to happen again and he will be a bit of a teacher feature of what he did wrong. This other person will feel that they can do it this way. That's what really bothers me more. I want to ask you the question. I asked everyone that I interviewed for the first book that I just did and I asked everyone. What do you think the country looks like after trump? We have a lot of making up to do reparations to to do with countries because if we don't have a president who really can show that we're we're growing up and repairing sincerely the damage. That has been done personally. I think someone like Buddha judge would be a capable of doing that young but he's got all the qualifications even even Bloomberg I think he's a grownup he's run this city for three three terms. He's grown up and he knows so he's an executive he's he hasn't done everything perfectly but he's very very good. He'll get us out of this mess because we are in one because we owe it to the rest of the world to do the right thing and we're not going to do unless we can show them that we've we've got leadership not only in the next four years after twenty twenty but after four years after that and after that yeah as a fellow New Yorker I reached out to you for your support Mayor Bloomberg. No he has a little bit. We sort of touched on an he hasn't asked asked me for. We just talk because I wanted him at one point two two run I thought he should. I was disappointed that he finally didn't but I think he sees right now that he ask the jump in because he has to jump in. Are you concerned that the idea yet. Another billionaire coming in. And saying you'll say I mean that was trump's theme trump's not a billionaire he's a fake president he calls everything else fake because he knows he's fake it projects is a classic. I don't know what you call it. Everything that he says is that negative about other things. Other people is what he's saying about himself so he he's he's a loser he he is a genuine loser hand and get somebody who's real like Bloomberg who's worth I think over fifty billion or maybe a lot more and this guy he says he's worth three something billion billion. We don't even know if he's just a total huckster hustler. Yeah and he and I think one of the things that angers him probably the most people like you people from Hollywood which he craves to be a part of your world he craves to be a part of the world of the of the females of the of the people that are actors or athletes if he wants to be a part of your world and the rejection Shen from people like you I think is one of the thing that bugs in the most. How could you not want? I mean when I was in New York before before he was doing all we want to have anything to do with him. I mean I heard he's around. He wants to take a picture do nothing to do with him. He's a fool. Everybody knew that but I mean now he he'd call up the tabloids leads and say he's the agent he called Forbes magazine. That's crazy yeah and not bought it. Yeah absolutely last night before I go to the movie. What do you make Guiliani at at the I mean I you lost his mind I think he's he's what a shame because he had something going and he just prostituted himself to work with trump? Guys of how could he do that. I I have no understanding of. How could he was a guy who used to prosecute people the Rico Act this show on and now? He's part of a criminal family is. He's the Tom Hagen. It's an amazing turn for him. Let me talk about this movie. So the Irishman was just reading a little bit about it. One of the things that I think is fascinating and I did not realize you don't process it in your mind because you've been in so many incredible movies will be so many award winning winning winning films and you've been so hard for them you Deniro de Niro Pacino. Scorsese yourself Al Pacino and Scorsese had not work together in this way before. No we when we started doing this project Monday night talked about Al playing Hoffa and it was built. It'd be a great idea. So that's how that came about and Joe Patchy and so on is the Buffalo Lena character even Joe Patchy coming back because he hasn't been in a lot of films lately lately. That's pretty exciting. It was well it was the ideal situation that I felt. We felt if we could get it. Me Joe Al Mardi Directing and people people have been obsessing over this is on aging or aging. That people are talking about where they took you back in time. I guess you'd call aging Mardi sort of I think he made up the phrase youth of available considerable public. That's pretty cool and tell us a little bit about this story. Well it's about A. I mean what what happened. Just a little backstory. We had been working on another project for many years. He wanted to get something going. Finally we came up with something about an aging retired Hitman from the west coast so Mari was showing me Old Films Jan film in Black and white as looking for the style all that he wanted to do it in and I said well. I've got to read this book that I spoke with Eric Roth a few years about one I came out called. I heard Japan houses. And it's about a hitman and so on and maybe it'll be good for research and when I read it. I said Marty we got together. I said you gotta read this because I think this is probably more like what we would want to I do. Yeah I mean the idea that you know this the lives of these characters even touch on the Kennedy assassination and providing the guns that were used to kill Kennedy. I mean this is sort of expands beyond on just the sort of unique story that you're telling yeah had a lot of is have these characters like Hoffa even Joe Gallo and the Kennedy certain size historical size to it but a very not a small but a personal story about a guy who's loyal to both people. Oh who very powerful and the dilemma. That is in actually but to me said in a very real way I can just stop by the way. He wrote the book that the dialogue at all all the scenes and everything been some people said well. You know that's not really true. That's not how it happened. But as Mardi says it's it's a story that we tell title in our way and it's not it might not be accurate though. I personally think that there's a good chance it would be accurate and if we find out later that it was somebody else happened another way. That's great do another film that back possibly but it's okay. I'd like to find out what really happened. This isn't the way it did happen. Well I can wait to see it. It's at the Balasko here. In New York. The BALASKO was a theater theater. So this is a first for the Balasko gets over one hundred years old and it. It plays eight times a week. The way of play would play. It's called show. It's not anymore but it's another movie theaters around the city around the country. Then it'll be on a Netflix. Want Robert Deniro. It's so cool talking to you. Thank you so much for being here in the new film. The Irish is playing in select theaters as we just mentioned right. Now we'll be on Netflix. In on November twenty seven th and also go see joker it's so good as well

A Look At The Latest Movies In Theaters

"Movies tonight's premiere a lot of really interesting movies premiering tonight including the latest in the terminator series in the first movie that James Cameron's been involved in in a bit joining us now to talk about terminator dark fate and a few others is sorry bunch Washington post center stage contributor and movie critic joining us here in the here who have program said bunch good to talk to you about friends here in Cleveland how are I'm great Bob I'm great it is it is kind of a weird weekend at the at the movies you've got you've got a couple of pseudo award hi quite releases coming out this weekend you've got motherless Brooklyn right which is the ad Norton new are about life in New York City in the in you know thanks Vera it it is that the the problem with this movie is that it is the features as Norton doing that very ed Norton the actor leaf thing you know if you've seen the trailer a hundred times and I have a you know that this is you know that this is going to be which he you know kind of should the shuddering map and then you also have which is the story of Harriet Tubman I let me see if I may so he let me ask you a bit more about motherless Brooklyn because I am an Edward Norton fan and I'm I mean going going back to the illusionist I mean it I mean virtually all of the twenty fifth hour is that the kind of thing you're talking about when you see a typical Edward Norton type of it is a very it's a very after the manner performance yeah he's doing he's doing if he played a character who has as a mental disorder if they it's kind of a rain man white hi situation and you know it it it depends on how much patience you have for that like I it again my my my big complaint here is that the movie is two and a half hours long and the this is the an ad that somebody with limited patient it's hard to do that and so and there's also Herriot which unfortunately I I miss that my my child had the flu so I was not able to get the the the press screening of that but I'm I'm pretty interested in it in part because it makes Hardman look like a walking talking poster for the the the second amendment as she's you know she she has the arm up there she can head back south and and free the slaves I I I I am looking for that I have not actually seen it's like yeah I can't say one way or the other if it is they recommend or not recommend other terminator dark fate is is the big movie out this week of opening wide on you know four thousand three and is the first James Cameron involves terminator then in the the second one then he turned right back yeah and it is also a direct sequel to teach here this is one thing that people are fans if if there are fans out there who have obsessively watched all of the terminator movies you know terminator three terminator salvation terminator Genisys that that there are Connor chronicle this kind of gets all of that the the the with all of that out of existence and it's just the straight world two terminator two which that's great news that's great news because I I'm one of those who skipped all of those sorry I I I I don't know why the genesis and the others did not grab me because I was a huge terminator fan of the first two and I missed all the rest so I kind of thought I can't go see this I will have missed so much so you're saying that matter does not matter if you if you've seen terminator wanted terminator two you're all caught up I think I think most people have just seen terminator one in terminator three honestly I I have a soft spot for I thought it was interesting and there's something kind of different with the with the with the franchise the terminator dark fate starters there were it features the return of Linda Hamilton affair Connor she is back in trying to save a a young girl who lived in Mexico for being a what being wiped out by the terminator that is kind of a mix of the the terminators from the first two movies that if the if gotta act endoskeleton you know the metal and a skeleton with the metal liquid liquid metal poly alloy him make a kind of separate itself the can in separate itself into two sermon acres wow it's not just one and can I come in gonna coming hello and thank you and also a defining this girl is at a argument human I play by mackenzie Davis who who is the is the interesting actress she was on the halt and catch fire the prestige internet TV are you know prestige SL on AMC about the the ride the use a mac whatever Bubba around the figure out so the bunch though about terminator dark fate is is at his age he doesn't look like in cannot be the terminator of the past what role does Arnold play in his terminator by a persona in this thing sure well I I I don't want to spoil too much but but Arnold is also back he he will be back he is back and he is playing a terminator that has that came back from from the past and have kind of that'll that'll down almost the he has he has a family and I I'm not joking not a joke you have a family and his family is a family of five plus I mean I I get was it too much okay bye I got too much it is it is interesting you know there's there's there's a whole gender studies dissertation the written about the evolution of the terminator through through the years you know the in the four and like the role of masculinity in society or something as in the first movie right he's just as big Bob naked that you'd write me right goes around killing people and you know he is very of what product any you know and then in the second movie he had you have to learn to feel any you know he he gave he did he get them humor and you get them on personality and then in this movie he is again almost domesticated and it's very strange to her watch he that play out on screen it's not bad exactly if it's just strange I don't know I mean but the problem with this movie is that it totally fine but nothing more than that and if you if you want to revisit this world and you want to do it with James Cameron I think you need something a little more than fine but I also don't know that there's there's that much more you can do with the terminator movies right if it's a movie about you know sending a robot back into the past to kill somebody who is important to humanity future and you can only do that so many times with the before before the well really run right right well yeah I I just I think it I I think you could I I I I can't I can't give us a strong recommend in the sense that I don't think it's a much the gotta you gotta get out there you're gonna be wowed by it but it's it's okay it's fine you won't hate it if if mediocre we're not gonna see Arnold on skis jumping over cage shark though you're here you're telling me it's it's it's a less okay I feel like that sounds may have jumped the shark when you told me there's a terminator family I don't know how that's going to play out they said the only ask you one other question also opening this weekend I'm AT and if you've seen it or not but I'm interested just because of the heavy weights involved deniro has taken on a break from bashing Donald Trump and decided to make a movie here with Pacino and with the ray Romano as well it's the Irishman the Jimmy Hoffa another Jimmy Hoffa a vehicle here any thoughts on that one well I actually see that this morning there's a press screening the hot so I I do not have any thought Jeff yeah I I I don't be is it actually out in theaters now is that I had seen the ingleses opens today now so that yeah yeah yes so it is it okay after this is a necklace release it is going to be playing limited in a few theaters around the country it is a and I I just looked it up it is playing in DC so I I see it in a couple hours I will let you get back and let everybody know how good it is next week I yeah but it is it is out in a limited run in theaters right now mostly landmark they think and then it's going to be on Netflix on I think the fifteenth but let me I I will I will I I saw I saw the promotion for the movie yesterday on I don't know if it was the today show for what it was but but I did see here in interview no one today but anyway I did see an interview with the three of them and you know anytime you see anytime you see deniro and Pacino get together on screen which they have done numerous times it's it's huge it's you know either the chemistry is always perfect and and and it's always it the question is about the story which you'll find out later this morning but I'm also curious to see whether or not Robert de Niro's brand has been damaged or diminished at all because of his you know is this political career now seems to be as important to him is that his acting career and some people love his you know outside interests bashing Donald Trump and some people really resent it'll be interesting to see how audiences respond yeah so it it's on that puts on November twenty seventh in theaters now it in a few theaters now Hampel theaters now and then they'll be on Netflix starting November twenty seventh you know it's interesting because I I it'll be it'll be hard to judge exactly what what the response to this movie is because Netflix doesn't release any actual data you know they they don't release box office data they don't release of the data who actually watch it the movie and how much of it so it's hard it's hard to say if audiences will you know will stay away from that new models sorry is this a new model big you're right I mean it's Netflix produced and I think I saw on exposures today it's a hundred sixty million dollar budget so it's a massive budget movie if I saw that correctly in its Netflix and they are going to put it on Netflix but it's going to have a limited run in theaters is that a new model I don't I don't recall that being a very common thing if it's Netflix for them to put it in the mix we asked for a while they do it they do it for the they do it for you know doctors even type movie the the awards contenders because in order to qualify for the Oscars you have to have a theatrical run in in at least New York and Los Angeles or you know one week or two weeks it if if the thing so they they expand that a little bit and do you know Chicago the others but it is it is not a it is not the standard necklace really followed not the first time they've done that they did that last year for Roma and some of their other movies ballad about their Scruggs and and a couple others and they've they've done it a couple times this year but it is it's very it's very strange because the because of the way they work the major theater chains that want to work with them they have to do the right in the route well I'll tell you what Sonny it's a really interesting mix there's terminator if you're a fan of the series of special the first to go to that one if you can stand two and a half hours of jittery go see motherless Brooklyn and we'll find out next week what you thought of the Irishman sunny bunch Washington Post movie critic thank you so

"This is one that popped into my head. Imagine a comedy coming out. Now. Star at that time, Robert de Niro, and Charles Grodin, not the people you would've thought would've appeared in that movie. No, you never would have dreamed that those people would be in that movie, and you'd never get a buddy movie with people like that now, whereas you'd have so much good like imagine. If it's if it's Nick cage. Now, they finally put them in a big budget movie. And it's this fucking Spidey verse movie because it's just his voice because they think people hate him there dead wrong, people love nNcholas cage. He's doing these five dollar directed DVD things because he made some stupid financial choices. But put him back in the movies people. Love nNcholas cage. Right. Sick of it. We'll speak in a midnight run to you got what's his name there? The guy that was in Beverly Hills cop one and two Koto. No. Well, I love ya. "And in the past four saying that his favorite his favorite magician is david copperfield and then he grabs the women now the grabbing women's not okay obviously and i need to preface all of this by saying you need to understand that as men we don't understand what it's like very often in america none of the other countries to feel like prey yes to feel like you're you're pray so that's a very serious issue i'm just saying that the visuals on this are kind of amazing and if what no i mean movies right like the johnny knoxville movie where he dressed up as an old guy and like did all these things that was based on his promise which is you can get away with so much more if everyone thinks your daughter in man that was a move africa what it's called a old dirty eisner's nothing hill ayman russia regard robert di nero movie i can't vitura so the iftar one was a young man dressed as an an and it was just as robert de niro and a young person doing a job at a negative but i do think it's reasonable to point out as these people inch closer to the grave yeah they probably have a different philosophy on life like they may stop caring about things they may opt out of these social contract because they're outta here pretty soon only one i'm asking you is mi allowed to treat this as a largely serious topic and when it arrives this way to have a s smile on my face because the visuals are ridiculous it is absurd it is visual he is surely so you're asking for permission i'm an as my profession drilling today's climate will as your smile sheriff i'm not sure if i can grant that this sounds like you're being very hard on me as a first time a fan i don't wanna veering agreement i should get a lenient sentence on in it we need a clear a sub because i could see your confusion johnny knoxville was bad grandpa robbins niro was dirty ground but here's what i say i feel like grandpa the grandfathered in once your great grandfather.
