Because these are all grown ass men who want to win games who put their bodies on the line that say every week when they leave their house, I'll come home and you don't know if their season or career is going to be over based on what's happening at work. I have nothing but the ultimate of respect of ownership, general manager, coach, and players. They're going to try to win. They're going to try and beat Tom Brady as hard as they can. The problem is, is you can't win football games in the NFL. If you're not sending your best players on the field and if you're sending your best players elsewhere, you are not trying to win games. That's the difference between tanking in the NBA and the NFL. And the NBA, they'll just sit their best players right there and put them in a suit right in front of the entire paying customers. Okay. Brian burns is going to play this weekend. Right. Okay. Even though everyone wants them. Everyone wants them. DJ Moore is going to play this weekend. They're going to try and win this game against Tampa. It's a lot more difficult with all due respect, again, to Deontay forman and chuba Hubbard, it's a much more difficult to beat the bucks without Christian McCaffrey. So the Panthers will go up out their business to try to win games. But you don't do your best to win the games if you're sending your players away. You're just, you know, trying to not win. As opposed to tanking completely in front of everybody. The Panthers right now, as I said, they are a top the draft order. Number one. And they're one in 5. And it's difficult, but they're only two games behind the winners, the leaders of this division. And the saints are two and 5. You can be you beating the saints already, where the win this weekend. Your two and 5 Brady's three and four, Atlanta's and Cincinnati, Atlanta could be three and four, and you're two and 5, and you're not in last place. And suddenly, you know, what would happen there? If the saints are in last place and let's say Vegas and Detroit also win? The saints could be a top the draft board, number one overall, and that would make Philadelphia. Number one, because Philadelphia owns the saints pick, the eagles could potentially be. Because I don't know about strength of schedule and how this sort of works out, just 7 weeks into an NFL season. If there was a big gap between Mac and the other option at quarterback, whether it was foyer or zappy when he got injured, it's much smaller now. No one is talking about Belichick in a way that they can reveal the true facts about what it is. I'll just say this from sources around the team and sources within that building. There's a lot of love for zappy, as well as Mac. Mac, I would imagine is going to get an opportunity to get that gig back, but I would think the leash is a lot shorter after what zappy has done zappy has come in. And he has played against two inferior teams, the Lions and the browns, so you have to keep that in mind, but he has not made mistakes, and he has, you know, right at the ship after it looked like it was sinking in max last game. Let's talk about the Patriots offense going up against this jets defense here a little bit. I want to talk about the running back situation offensive line situation too. But the first thing I want to do is talk some scheme and Belichick said it on Wednesday. This is a Seattle style cover three system that the New York Jets are running. Robert Saleh basically taking the defense he ran in San Francisco, bringing it to the east coast and dropping it in the metal ads, right? It's the same exact system that they've seen in Seattle over the years with San Francisco over the years. And a lot of other teams that have tried to emulate this Seattle three defense. Now, the problem that I see for the jets is one of the reasons why the legion of boom was able to execute such a simple system was because they were the legion of boom, right? They had Richard Sherman, they had Earl Thomas, they had camp Chancellor. They had real playmakers in the back end. This is not a complex system. This is not a confusing Brian Flores type of defense. You pretty much know what you're going to get. And they really count on great execution and great continuity in the back end to be able to put all of the pieces together. This jets team is not there yet, right? They have a lot of holes in this secondary before they are going to be able to run the system as cleanly as it needs to be run. This is an extreme rebuild. I was talking to Nicole Yang of the Boston goal about this the other day. And we kind of almost looked at it like where the Celtics were a few years back where they were so bad that they were able to get a top whatever it was 5 pick three pick. And then still get another one the next year. You know, because they were just so the jets are so far away. They really to tear the thing down from the beginning. Even with all their high picks, they just still don't have the talent. They didn't choose to sign anybody in free agency, which was an interesting decision. Oh, I guess they did. Corey Davis is okay. Well, it's time people there's 9 people on other positions. They didn't sign a corner or saved a top safety. They didn't re sign Marcus may, who's a solid player for them in the back end, probably their best defensive back..

"And how many years have you been covering this franchise. Pablo f govern the jets for thirty two years. Which is longer than any person in history that's deserves a purple heart or you know a trip to the insane asylum but yes. It's thirty two years. And so how. Many coaches coaches have you seen. Come through the new york jets in that time. Yeah it's funny because the other day w- before they introduced roberts sala. I went back and checked because we need covered. That long. And the jets chains coaches so often you lose track over over time. He ends well. Total man okay. So you're the perfect person to talk to today. Your latest piece rich is about number twelve robert sala and his decidedly unique journey to new york city and the nfl coaching ranks. So before we get into all of the football and there is so much there. Tell me a little bit about robert. Saleh's background where did he grow up in. What was his upbringing like. Robert grew up in dearborn michigan which is just outside of detroit. Most people know it as a home of ford motor company but it's also the largest percentage of arab americans in the country. He is the grandson of lebanese immigrant. Muslim neighborhood a very strong and closely knit neighborhood and football was a big part of it. At robert really has football in his family. His dad played at eastern michigan university. He was. I'm told a very good middle linebacker. In fact he had a tryout with the chicago bears uncles who played cousins. Who played his older brother. David played all at ford's in high school. You mentioned the solid name at forts in high school and there is a strong tradition. Some of the best players in the schools history are members of the family from an early age. When robert was a seven year old waterboy for his older brother's football team. Football has been a huge part of his life. The family's life very much part of his upbringing in dearborn michigan so robert is growing up in this lebanese-american muslim family in dearborn a football family. What kind of player was robert himself. Yeah very good player. A captain in highschool played two ways. He was a linebacker in a tight end and really good. I talked to his high school coach. Jeff sturdiness in. I asked him. I said what kind of player was robert. He said he was like all the other solids he can really hit. You actually wears a bracelet to this day on his on his wrist during games. It says extreme violence. So i guess we could describe him as a very physical player who was good enough to get a scholarship in northern michigan and he went on to become an all conference. Tight end in northern michigan fell was ever a serious option for him. But i would say you know a really good ice school football player who enjoyed a solid career. So if you're a football player with that decidedly unsubtle mission statement rich. What do you do after college. Robert went to the exact opposite spectrum of what that mission statement would be. I mean he goes to work behind a desk working a nine to five job in a very stuffy. Corporate office building in downtown detroit is a credit analyst for america bank putting his finance degree work. His brother david is in the financial world is well you know. He graduated with a finance degree. So this is just following in the footsteps of his family. You know his dad had some done. Some business work. His grandfather was actually owned his own furniture store in dearborn. So he's really robert. Sala is point in his life in the year. Two thousand just anna colleges just following in the footsteps of some of his other relatives.

They won't take the bird in the hand when they get another offer, instead of waiting on what they think is gonna be maybe an offer If this coach gets a job, so You know, there's been a lot of talky for years that should the whole coaching cycle starts after the Super Bowl. So what equals a level playing field? We saw that for years in New England, where some of these coaches got bypass because teams didn't want to wait and I got to think that Earth, the enemy and Brian Day ball are being affected by that today. Now, I don't know if that's the only reason they haven't They don't have jobs as of today, but I got to think that's a factor. Mike on that tip real quick, and we're being joined by my tenant, Bam, our front office insider on the Goodyear hotline to make it a little bit more equitable to give those coaches that, frankly have had success an opportunity to be more successful and promote themselves and not have it is a detriment that their team keeps winning and winning and winning, And that doesn't make any sense. That's counterintuitive. How difficult would it be or what is the process to make sure Your suggestion that things would be done afterwards. I mean, what's what's What's the obstacles to getting something like that done? It just makes common sense. Yes, but I had the great fortune my career to represent Steve Kerr. I represented coaches both football basketball and Steve Kerr lost a couple of coaches during the finals. And still won championships, and Steve Kerr was all about trying help his assistants get to where they want to go. So the MBA model works. I saw it firsthand. So one idea would be simply that between the bye week of Let's say the championship game. In the Super Bowl. Eric, the enemy could be named the head coach of the Houston Texans. Then you turn it over to Nick Acero, the general manager of Let him get going on all the coaching hires, which I've done before. It's a lot of work, but surely could be done with minimal contact with Coach Be enemy. Let him get ready for the Super Bowl and again. We've seen it in the end to it works so The system is flawed from the standpoint that it penalizes success. You know, we saw it with Romeo Cornell, Josh McDaniels, Charlie Weis for all those years in New England, where those guys had deep playoff runs. And if we want to make it equal playing field if we want this process to be more transparent and include more people, I think you have to figure out a way that equalizer because guys like Eric the enemy right now, clearly when some of these decisions are close, they're gonna lose the bed for the doubt. And let's face it, guys. If we're having this conversation in two years, three years, four years Kansas City Chiefs are still going to be in that conversation because they have a great young quarterback. That's a great point. Guards like McDaniels and Cornell eventually got their opportunities. But why not make it the optimal opportunity? If you can great inside my thank you very much. I confidence wrong word. Yeah, no, no, okay. I believe the bills are gonna win this football game and it comes down to their offense offense has more polished. I trust them or we got Stefon Diggs gaja shall but you also have Cole Beasley. And if I had asked you which offense can put up more points or if one team Buffalo or the Ravens which team if I told you it was a blowout one that was won by forty points. Would you like Buffalo or the Ravens? I would think Buffalo like Buffalo has a more potent more polished off at least they put up 48 on Denver. They put up 38 on the Patriots, but fifty six on Thursday, that's their final three games of the year 27 on the Colts who have really good defense last week. He turns a sack into a touchdown last week against Tennessee. He can make plays like that where sometimes he's gotta go there's no there's nothing to stop them. If Amar Jackson has an amazing day of running the football. That's he could throw the ball. Well, but I think if the femara wants to win he's going to have to have a couple amazing Place running the football against the Buffalo Bills home and that could screw up my prediction. He's very dangerous running the football, but I'm picking the bills to win over.

First of all, I think that Roberts Olive all the coaches available this offseason to become head coaches. I think Robert Saleh was the best guy available. So that's a great hire for the Jets. I would even take off Sala over Urban Meyer. I know that's controversial. Urban Meyer's a college coach and Robert Saleh is very very well respected around the league. Listen to the way that Kyle Shanahan the former head coach of these are not that former his film or head coach the coach of the 49ers the guy that Robert sell used to work with in San Francisco. Kyle. Shanahan talks really highly of him Richard Sherman and NFL veteran guy. I really respect loves Robert Saleh. He would go to bat for Robert Saleh in a heartbeat. And I watch the Forty Niners at the end of the year. Remember the Forty Niners were not in playoff contention. They were on their third string quarterback. It was a mess. It was a nightmare things were spiraling out of control injuries were piling up. This year was a really tumultuous terrible year for the San Francisco 49ers. And I watched them play week 16 against the Cardinals and man that defense competed their tails off the held Kyler Murray to twelve points and to get the team really a defense motivated when you're not in the playoff push. You got a third string quarterback, you're playing a team. The Cardinals were fighting to get into the NFL playoffs and the 49ers defense showed up. They fought incredibly hard. They played their butts off. They won that game and I that says a lot about Robert Saleh. He got his guys ready to play and motivated to play and what was almost immediate. I mean, they're they want to put good stuff on film. It does matter but they remoted into play for Roberts all that says a lot to me about him. Now. I'm not gonna guarantee that Robert Sawyer is going to work in New York, even though I like it. I love Roberts all I think it's a great hire. But Robert Saleh is a defensive-minded coach and we've seen a lot of defensive-minded coaches or even better way to put his really we've seen great football teams that have good defenses. Whether it's the Jacksonville Jaguars Blake Bortles or the Chicago Bears with Mitchell trubisky. We've seen really good teams with great defense has run into a wall and ceiling where they couldn't get any farther because it didn't have a quarterback. Is there Cornell Powell was there. I mean, like, that's always a strong group, and I feel like It feels like every year over the last couple of years to get these guys really stand out and truly increase their stock, and this is where it really all starts. And so it's always big when it comes to the wide receiver position, as well as the running back position to a means of Beatrix Felton Ramada Re. Stevenson I know Is there trace sermon who's come on heavy as of late. Michael Carter, who is I hate to say it like that. Something's always stands out to me is if you can connect with the group of guys around you, whether that is your position group or your coach or your offensive line or your wide receivers or whatever it is on defense, especially a demon mention anybody over there, But if you will connect and have chemistry with those guys in such a short week with such few practices That really stands out its beak to who you are with your football character, your football like you, your intelligence how quickly you can take things up and being coachable is something that we've we've heard many, many times whether it's from directors of scouting or assistant G. M's or head coaches or whoever is making the decisions and the draft room and that's really what the senior Bowl is all about. So we really I mean, all things considered have a fantastic group of senior Bowl guys. They're coming out to mobile. And so it should really be an exciting week. What? We have some breaking news that's coming out right now. I'd love to get your reaction to this. According to Adam Schefter, Josina Anderson actually had a first The Jets are gonna be hiring Robert Saleh the 40 Niners D. C. What do you think about that? Wow. So I mean, you know that he was one of the hot coaching candidates right? He was kind of ham, Eric, the enemy, Arthur Smith, You know, like those guys were blind, able as well from the Buffalo bills. These were all the guys that were should have been on everybody's radar in for the Jets to go with a defensive head coach. It's not the direction I thought they were gonna go. Not the Robert Sailor is a poor choice of you know, it depends on how he interviewed and how we think that he is going to do with the head coach Headset, but Obviously, he's had a couple of fantastic years dealing with the talent getting the most out of that, especially with the San Francisco 49 or Super Bowl run. So you know his caliber of getting that final game of the season. But I really did not think that they would go the defense of direction, especially given the fact that there's some back and forth on. What do you do with Donald? And it's gonna be you know, you figured it might be an offensive mind. It could come in and salvaged Arnold, or you're probably taking a quarterback at number two overall, so I thought it was gonna be offense. I really did love the direction that they were going to go. But perhaps sailor really blew them away and interviews. Maybe they thought this is the leader. This is the manager of this is a facilitator, the guy that we want to trust with our heads that and so it's an interesting call. I didn't think it would be a defensive guy. But He certainly proved over the last couple of years that he deserves a shot like this. Yeah, The plan is actually eyes. I understand. It is just to bring in either Mike McDaniel or Excuse me, Michael floor. So, basically a Shanahan offense up there, which I think will benefit Donald greatly From what I understood what I've understood the last couple of weeks is Joe Douglas wants to give it one more run with Donald Trade back out of two with a quarterback thirsty team multiplies picks and start to really pad that roster. Now, If that actually happens, we'll have to wait and see. But that is my understand. I think of that plan. How do you feel about that Hire knowing that information Well, so you know, I've been for a lead the last couple of weeks that I feel like the draft really begin to number three overall when it comes to Miami because I didn't think that they were moving on from two. I thought that, too was going to continue to be their guy and with that, said I thought they were going to be in that kind of a similar situation where you have a lot of Cuba. Needy teams like you just said. You know, Carolina, potentially Denver, San Francisco, New England, Washington, Chicago, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and that you know, those are just the ones off the top of my head That could use quarterbacks. And so with that in mind, you figure you could start a bidding war between those teams. Get quite a bit for trading back if you've already got your quarterback, So if the Jets believe that that is the case, then sure it makes it even more valuable. Because before when I went over scenarios of what it could be for Miami, you know, certainly you're talking about multiple first round picks for teams and move up or whoever was gonna be left outside of the top two, you know, let's say the Trevor launch. We think he's going one and then Either Justin Fields or Zach Wilson, probably going number two. And I thought that that was going to be the case with the Jets. And so okay, you got either trey Lance or whoever was left between those two guys who you could trade up or at number three. But if it's number two You got all three guys on the board you have you have the ability to go up and get whichever got you wanted. So if that's the chase, look, if they think that Donald is salvageable than certain they have the chance to pick up multiple first round picks over the next couple of years..
