"My mindset was when I went to juco. I wanted to prove them wrong. I'm I want to go. I wanted to actually go to a bigger D one and dominate at that the one level in which I did so my mindset. Was just like both You have this one opportunity, because if you don't make it out of juco than you're gonna be, you know, working a regular job, and I didn't want to do that, obviously, so I just put all the models on the tables betting on myself. Take the best care myself Stretch did the most rehab. I could And, you know, focus on my schoolwork. Got my AA degree and was blessed, You know, get a four scholarship to Kansas State. That is such a powerful message in that. So leave me with this thought and I've seen this for a long, long time. It seems to me when somebody tells you you can't do something. It's gonna go one of two ways, right? You're gonna accept it. You're gonna buy it. You're gonna believe it. You can say they're the authority. They must know. Or you're going to do what you did with it and say no, no, no. You're wrong about me. You don't know me. I'm gonna prove you different or prove you wrong. Why is it that when it Fresno State they're telling you, you're gonna walk on and you're not big enough. And you're not good enough. And we just don't see it like that. Why did you not believe that? And why did you think to yourself, man? They got this all twisted. Yeah, man. I just know that God created me in his masterpiece and his likeness. And I knew that You know, I have special talents is coming out of high school. I knew what I could do with the ball. My instincts. I just know it was a great football player. To be honest, so Wonder gonna settle for what I coach thought about me. That makes sense. And you're telling me I'm too small. But I've seen guys do it. At my height. I seem bring grind doing so it's possible. And kind of what? When I was back in San Francisco, Robert Salas said, Um You could take control of your life. And if you don't take control of your life, somebody else that you don't really know. We'll write your life for you with their opinion. So I mean that right there stuck with me. You want to write your own story? So in order to do that, you gotta focus on what you took control. And you leave the rest of God. But there's a lot you could control. So that kind of mindset I have as well. Can't say how much I respect that and how much I accept that DJ read Seahawks defensive back Normally I don't bring somebody back that we did just a few months before. "York It is one Eric home and joining us on the line. Eric. Good to have you back with us. Thanks for getting us some time. How you doing? I'm doing great. You know, it's great to be on with you guys. A lot of excitement in the air with the schedule being announced. I'm excited to talk some ball. Yeah. What's the word in New York? How do they like their schedule? Any anything that grabs you to think about me? First office? Four out of your first six is on the road. You got an early bye week. What are the thoughts overall? For jet fans. Well, well, I mean, I think you know. Did you think of it as a player that early bye week doesn't really help you much. You know, that's gonna be tough to have a bye bet early in the season. Obviously, there's the game in London that that sticks out. You know that's going to be exciting. Everyone's kind of excited about, you know, taking a trip across the pond, But, you know, another thing that stands out is starting off the season to get stabbed, Darling quarterback You drive the number three overall. Now he's got rid of him, and they have to face him the first game, So that's something that stands out. And, of course in the season with the Buffalo Bills. I think we're all tired. Ended the season with you guys. So hopefully it'll be a better outcome this time for the ditch. Yeah, I mean the back half of that schedule. Eric looks pretty daunting, You know for the Jets. I mean, I'm sure that coach solid is probably hoping that his team is rounding into form their little more competitive as the season wears on, and they get accustomed to his Systems respectively, on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. But aside from the Jags, I mean, you go Saints, dolphins Jags bucks bills. I mean those air like four out of five double digit win teams from last year. Yeah. I mean, it's gonna be a tough stretch, you know, but the hope is, you know, by the end of it By the second half of that season, everything will be running on clicking on all cylinders. You know, you have a young quarterback young offensive line. That's a great It's nice pieces that they added in the draft and free agency, so hopefully the machine starts toe run well, and by that back half of the season there, hitting on all cylinders and plants and good football, so Is definitely a tough stretch. You know, going down that that back half of that season. I mean, playing against the bills, and the Dolphins started off in the second half. I mean that stuff right there. You know those air, too hard nosed football games, You know, we know each other. It's always tough playing within the division. But now that you know, you guys in Buffalo, Miami, everyone's really stepped their game up and it is it is. It is gonna be a tough division to get through. What has new head coach Robert Salas said about the schedule? If anything, You know, I have not heard much, but but I'm sure you know, just like any other coach. He's probably saying this one game at a time. Whoever lines up in front of us is gonna be the team that we focus on and put our image energy, too. You know, the energy around the facility in New Jersey is has been infectious. You know, Coach solid has a vibrant personality. He wants to the guys have worked hard. The energy is great, just really a lot of positivity over there, So I think they're excited to get a lot of their guys in the building. You know, through free agency through the draft, you know, with the atmosphere around there is definitely changed for the good. Speaking of the draft, Eric, we should We should address that here. I think we You know that the headliners all took place on the offensive side of the ball. And understandably so you know what? Zach Wilson, Very Tucker and Elijah more Heck, Even Michael Carter to start day three. And then it finally flipped to the defense of side of the ball where I think outside of the defensive line. We would all agree that back seven was going to need a lot of attention on that side of the ball, and they did it. Every one of their picks. On day three. Aside from you know, the running back Michael Carter at the top around four went to the defensive side of the ball, including three corners, but the one I want to ask you about Being a former safety yourself is the sixth round pick of Thompson is Cyril Gene out of Florida State. Was a safety, but they list him as a linebacker. Do you know what their plans are for him in terms of where he's gonna line up? I know he's £226.63, so he'd be a big safety in today's game. But it is linebacker what they're planning for with him. Yeah. I mean, they're definitely planning on using in his linebacker, You know, you look at guys like you know, in the 40 Niners Fred Wagner, who's become one of the premier linebackers and Lee. He was a formal former kind of Nickelback Rover kind of guy before he got to San Francisco, and they're hoping to put to keep him in that mold. A guy whose athletic covered tight ends weaken blitz you can fill in the run game. And ghost dollars. His whole thing that he's been preaching is all gas, no brakes, speed. He wants speed on that team, whether it be on the first level second level or that third level, he wants speed. So converting some of those safeties in the linebackers is a big part of his deal, and it's definitely gonna be a fast unit. First Four picks of the draft for the Jets were offenses Zach Wilson and Elijah Vera Tucker, of course, Elijah Moore and then running back Michael Carter. The last Six pics all on the defensive side and three corners on day got some corners that you know they got him in the late rounds, but they got some traits..

"You know, they did wonder what they'll say about it, so That was discussed today. If you missed it, Gus Bradley would be off the 40 Niners list of Robert Solid gets a job. He's gonna be the Raiders D. C. Dan Quinn is gonna be the Cowboys, DC It looks like Robert Salas gonna be a favorite in New York. That's what rich Cimini told us. From ESPN. Your pal from Syracuse, said. Robert's All is the top choice of the Jets. So far, hardly that, but I think they may bring some of these other guys back for a second interview, But, hey, obviously just did. The remote zoom would show Douglas on Friday and now they want to bring him in tow. Sit down with the president and Charles Johnson. I think he'd probably have to get clearance from Woody Johnson. Maybe wait till Thursday. But that's great. I mean, you would hurt he did. So. So in Detroit on that morning. So Rich said that he obviously did well in the first one with Joe Douglas. And now they're gonna bring him in to Florin Park. So Is you were saying I wanted we didn't ask Rich, but you could hear it in his tone, and rich is a piece of quintessential New Yorker cover the Jets a long time. Is that one job you may say no to if you're ever solo. You're gonna make more money. What you're making now. Couple million. Probably is a D. C, but he's got what has it got, like 42 kids? Seven and the O. S number seven on the way. He's kind of gives me another competition. He's gonna win many against me. That's right. Give Dr Snippet ensures he wins 75. But, yeah, I mean, you want to raise him He's from the Midwest. But New York's a great area. It Z quite a change. And so what? If you get a five year deal? Phase you $30 million. You know what you have to look at. It is just by one swing at it, and I'll never get hired again. You know, he could do Well there. How much does he loved Arnold? You know what I'd like to hear is when he goes in the meetings when they say what should we do with the quarterback you played against in a week Two. What do you think of them? Very interesting. Would he be a proponent of drafting a new quarterback and trading Donald to the 40? Niners? Maybe. Or what? He you know, it's interesting little Domino that would be set him on his new career path. If he does get the job in the 40 Niners have to hire D. C. But that could also have Huge impact on what the 40 Niners do it. Quarterback if if he's an advocate of moving on from sand Arnold and they wind up trading Sam Donald so Look, I like Robert solid. But like I keep saying this. You give me a couple of third round picks. I like him. And I wish that either Gus Bradley or Dan Quinn would have been available, but because they were gonna keep running this offense, but those guys are defense. Both these guys know it well, but A third round picks. They give up one for Trent Williams. You get one of those back into the round. I get it. But, man, that's pretty good. Take that. I like him. But so we sure the Raiders fired Gus Bradley today and it wasn't Ken wasn't until you see the but they sent out of this there before she does that. What's the Senate new defensive coordinator Gus Braley. They sent out for just a nanosecond, but the picture was can wizened hunt. And what is You blow this up? Yeah, That's kind of amazing, huh? Yeah. What is really disappointing, and it's just somebody making an heir. But L. Davis wanted to bring. Ken wasn't hunt in many, many years ago to interview for the head coaching job. And I think it was Bill collar that told him Don't go. That's a bad job. And I was pissed. As you could imagine that anybody that was probably the first time later, Steve Sarkisian said. No, no. No one can wasn't had said No. I'm not even to come out to be interviewed..

"On the sports leader. Logan was knocked back a hole into the game. There's a miss sack opportunity Donald able to slip out of that goes to his left and throws caught for a touchdown to Barrios as he beat a killer Witherspoon. Arnold looked like he was gonna get sacked What was able to get out of it, Tim and stay alive and rolled to his left and threw a touchdown. The Jets Only touch down to the game today where the Niners might won that game. But that was the one that hurt the most lost Nick motion. That one Solomon. That's where most of got her. Jimmy got hurt in that game. But we're not going to talk about that with the rich media were to talk about. Robert Salas got a second interview with the Jets. The Jets obviously of the second pick in the draft, so there's a lot around the Jets as well. But there's a bunch of Doug Peterson rumors as well. And your pal Rich Cimini covers the Jets for ESPN. And he joins us, courtesy of the Yuma Guess on high rich. How are you? Hey, guys. Thanks for having me. I hope everything is doing well out there. Everything's great a long way from the daily Orange, which you wrote two years ago when I was back at W a year, and here we are again we had you on. You know, Before that Chet's 40 Niners game We talked about Sam Darnel. But the news now is that Robert Sala and I know that Joe Douglas interviewed a bunch of people and he did it remotely with the 40. Niners Current D c on Friday, But they are flying him to Florin Park. I guess today for a Interview tomorrow Rich What do you know about solid being the first of all the long list of candidates? I think they interviewed all the all the hot names initially, but Masala right now the top candidate would you say, since he's the first to get that that second interview Yeah, Greg, I do think he is their top candidates. You know, they interviewed nine guys, and they pretty much interviewed the same guys. Everybody else was interfering. You know, it seems like a musical chairs game that goes on this time a year. And, you know, maybe they had one or two different ones, but pretty much the same. And Robert was a guy that they were high on before the initial interview, And then my understanding is, you know, he did really well in the virtual interview, which is course we're doing things nowadays. And he is coming in. And you know the Jets really like him. Someone told me that he's the front runner. Whether he gets the job is another story, but he's a guy in demand right now. I think six out of the seven teams looking for a head coach Have expressed some degree of interest in him. So it's a competitive situation. Which makes me think that jets, you know, I know they like Arthur Smith. Is well. The tenant, Tennessee offensive coordinator and Brian Table all the Bills offensive coordinator. But maybe if they get a little nervous, maybe they make a move to try to lock up Robert right away. It's a meanie joins us covers the Jets for ESPN. Logically, you would think, especially when Doug Peterson became available. Joe Douglas, of course, comes over from the Eagles. You got Sam Donald, You want to develop a young quarterback? So why would they go to the defense of side of the ball given all those factors? Yeah, It's a good question. And you know, when we asked assumes the season was over, and they fired out of gays, You know the kids. You're looking, and they're right that they need a leader right now. They don't need, you know, quote unquote guru on the offensive side. They tried that with Adam Gaze. It was It was an unmitigated disaster. I mean, they went 1923, and they finished 32nd offense both years. And so that's not to say they couldn't hire another offensive guru. But I think what they feel like now is the culture is so lacking in the organization. There's such a black cloud over this team, which hasn't made the playoffs in 10 years that they feel they need a dynamic personality. A leader a good communicator, someone who connect with all parts of the building all parts of the team, whether it's offense, defense special teams. All things that were lacking under gays. They feel that's what they need. So they're looking forward to use the cliche, the CEO type of coach and they feel Robert would be would kill all those check all those boxes. And you mentioned a black cloud over the organization and it starts at the highest level, and that would be ownership. So what is going on with with Woody Johnson? Is he gonna come back and run the day to day? Of the organization when when Robert goes into Florin Park, Obviously Joe Douglas interview room is the second part. Who do you think represents? Ownership. Is that what you're Charles Johnson Rich? Yeah, So the weather I'm doing there's been three people during the interviews has been the deep the GM, the team president, and Christopher Johnson, who is the CEO and the younger brother of Woody Johnson. Answer your first question. Yes, Woody Johnson is coming back. You know, for those of your listeners who may not know what he is currently serving as the United States Ambassador, the United Kingdom You know what Donald Trump appointee? And that, of course, is ending in a few days..

"Listen, City, your apple home pod. Hey, Siri play Okay. NPR. Woman London KBR, then San Francisco, the sports leader Tim Ryan, expected to join us momentarily. I have a lot to discuss the loss last week to the W F T and which defensively give up nine points. Robert Salas. Situation is closed with Robert will get into that they have flexed out of Sunday night football, the Cowboys and the 40 Niners. We talked about Brandon I UK quarterback decision has been made. The game against Dallas. So we're getting all those conversations and before we get into that with Tim will join us again. Like I said, in just a moment, anything jump out at you from from Scott Harris or conversation we just had I sure hope Jeff Wilson Jr is a good game or he's gonna hold that against me for forever more games. Not gonna be happy if he does the 83 2 tugs like I said, he's a smart guy. He you know, I pushed him a little bit on the ball park because he was kind of dancing around there. But he did say, did you say five days home runs? I mean, over 30 games. That's a lot so extrapolated that over 81. It's not just home runs. There's no doubt the ball. Traveled, the better on you could say it's the warm weather, and that's a big part of it. But they could go by and you know, having overlay of the field the way they did, and some of it was bringing in the fences in the outfield. I remember Couple of Brandon Belt shots that were clearly would not have been home runs. But he didn't want to answer because, but it is, I think, a huge Decision proceeding forward. Maybe not huge, and the answer may be made for you. This year. We're you know how how widespread of the vaccine is gonna be. I think you'll likely see you know Larry and Mario and Stacy. Uh Do the same thing next year. And if we do start maybe not right.

"That much better Now. Here's the thing. We leave it with this, Tim, I think I remember after week one or might have in week two. I know somewhere early in the season, we're wrapping up one of these calls that you're you're like a man. Get ready for the grind, or you were like this is just now It's gonna be the mental 2020 grand. You were like the mental grind of 2020. And now here we go with the biggest one. They don't I mean, and there's no way to even really as commentators and broadcasters and we we can't even project. We don't even know where they're going. Right. So it's just like what the challenge of the great mind nothing through anybody within the team. But a possibility of Dallas. The possibility of Arizona on basically the deal is, though, and then play games and either one of those stadiums if it was in Arizona. 40 Niners, I would think would play the next two home games at that stadium. If that's the ends up being the onside location, you could say the same for Dallas, and there's a game coming up in Dallas. You know, there's a lot of logistics to work out. But wherever they go toe, I'm thinking white candle. Why can't they go practice in Alameda County? Is that gonna get shut down to next week to see if it's out there in the Napa Marriott was brought up with the Raiders train, You know, right, right. Right. And then you don't have to. You don't have to do with the problem is is. I think once you go to theirs, it's same is like if you leave the state If you go to that county you got you come back to this county. Gotta quarantine in Santa Clara County for 14 days made way. Got the family stuff Kyle's talking about like being away from the feelings thing. Robert Salas got six kids that are already for family. Time and Christmas. Yeah, and his wife and I mean, there's so many families that are being in, but it's not just these players. They've got wives and Children. Then, um at this time of year and and the challenge of the pandemic anyway, that it's presented to everybody, This is a man that grinded 2020 continues. I said yesterday. It's Every time something happens. It's like throwing another log on the adversity. You know the fire of adversity. I said yesterday when this news head I said, forget the log through the whole court on Dude, it's a bonfire. Now. It's like one of those college rally bonfires, you know? Yeah, I wasn't too good at those bonfires Must have those NSC. They have those good trying to put him out to tell you that, Yeah. Oh, man. Well, it's it's the grind. So the only positive I mean the positives A. They won the darn game. That's a positive and then be the Monday night game, so you don't have game plan installation until Thursday, gives you a day. It's a big 24 hours to buy something, but still either way, man. What Paul? He's been making his list of traveling songs, Man like, Never roam by Mattel. Mama, That's I'm seeing. I'm I'm working on a team without a home playlist. So we've got wherever you are. I'm a robe, Get a playlist run for the hills for everybody Totally run to the hills there, not just the players in the league. How about everybody? It's beautiful. You guys in kind of a weird in a wild way is to me this team and in this league, but this team because we're close to him, and we're you know, following every day is you guys, his fans and all of us and and me having the privilege of being up there is, um They have not let this thing to find them at all. And with all the adversity in the issues in the injuries, and then you throw this worldwide pandemic on top of it. And I see him every day for these guys to go out there on a practice and a half. And take it to the first place team in the division on their home field. Knowing already, you know, 12 hours before that, you may be picking up and leaving your family for a month and getting back on the road. That is a mental grind and for those guys to be able to overcome that, um you know, from the neck up and in the character and what's been in their heart with these coaches and really starts. It's top of the building with the leadership and down to the coaches and then to the players. It's It's really something to see in something to be a part of, and Um, you know, I'm thankful that I get to see it every day. How these guys just continue to grind and not let all of this bad news and this grinding these, Um you know the dynamics of this this whole situation to find who they are, but it's pretty awesome to make. It's like the league's been trying to double team him and the Niners alike. Javon, They're just dropping off and seeing what's gonna happen so Yeah, Double team me. I'll be dropping right in the coverage. Watch this trapped in the coverage. Just it was a good idea at the time, right? Just a good idea at the time. Uh, tell me that when you guys you gotta follow me. Then we'll just smell our odor eaters would see where we all go after that. That's why you need oxygen. You're smelling those feet. Yeah, pressure coming off a fun to watch happy for him. Happy for the win. And let's see where this thing goes By. So maybe it's December and you're in it. All right. "Yes, he is a boomer bus player. I don't want that against Russell Wilson because he'll find you and Russell Wilson's gonna have time to throw, which is about the most dangerous sentence in the NFL. I want a super athlete back there into various Moore is one of the best athletes the 40 Niners have on a team that are full of crazy athletes. So I agree with you 100%. He looked great against New England. I don't know if that's a very high bar to get over, and that's the guy I would want to see. And I do think that Robert Salas using him or clearly, this would be the week to get over the hump. Ultimately, I don't want to put you too much on the spot. So you can you can hedge out if you need to. But you have a score. Prediction for me. Yeah. I mean, I know it's already every put it out that way. We do it every Friday on that concept. I pick Seattle 31 27. I think it's going to be in that rage. I Really struggled with it. I actually I went back and forth a few times. I talked to Brady Anderson, who's our Seahawks reporter. In one point, he was going to pick the diners and I was gonna pick C Ox, which always makes both fan base is really happy. So you enjoy that. But you know, I just It's hard. It's hard to really kind of wrap my mind around at the end of the day. That the 40 Niners are going to be able to be the best player on the field. You know that they're not going to have the best player on the field in a lot of times when I get in these games where I think it's going to be really close. I kind of tend to lean towards that. You know which which side has the best player or maybe the Trimble's transcendent player. And Russell Wilson is that guy? And, you know, maybe maybe he won't be. He wasn't against the Cardinals. You know, at the end of that game, he wasn't able to deliver that one. So I wouldn't be at all surprised if 40 Niners go go up there and get a win. But you know if Niners fans are upset with that pig just take solace in the fact that I picked the Patriots last week, and I was way way all wrong And I haven't. I haven't exactly been hit me out of the park this year. So the Niners have been a little bit more unpredictable than last year, where it was easier to just take off the wind prediction. So that's that's kind of where I'm at with it. He's Nick Wagner. He writes for a little mom and pop website called ESPN dot com. I don't know if you've heard of it, but we're trying to get the word out about it on. We always appreciate his time. Insightful is all His buddy and we'll talk soon. Thanks, Peter. Take it. The separatist locator number nine out of more old Catholic high Madam Copeland on KNBR, 1045 and 6 80, These sports leader back in the leadoff spot back in 48 hours and Seahawks ahead of Sunday's game, 24 and 3 40 Niners against the five and one Seattle Seahawks is gonna be a big game is Faras. We're the 40 Niners Khun Stack up in this division if they win this game The division is in play. Everybody's aware of that right, You win this game. The division is very much in play, and I saw yesterday Steve Berman of the athletic was putting this out on Twitter and it's It's an out like it's an unlikely situation. It would be an outlier sort of a situation. But as bad as the the NFC East ISS and with seven teams getting into the postseason, it is not Totally out of the realm of possibility, and it also depends on what would happen in that NFC south of teams continue to beat each other up. It is not out of the realm of possibility based on tie breaks and based on record in the season that the NFC West could end up with four playoff teams. It's not It's not likely to happen, but it's not totally the craziest thing based on how bad the NFC East is. That said the NFC West is not not scorching the Earth right now The Cardinals have lost some games. And, of course, the box finally lost Arizona. But Dad put things That makes things a little bit more interesting. I think when you get down the stretchers, the 40 Niners, the Seahawks both hit this sort of stretch of division games here in the heart of their schedule. You've dropped their days. No, thank you. Dave was looking at me like Hominy. We got something good deal, though, Right? How about we get you out Robert Salas, With these gene Simmons pipes to you. That's all I can think about. Never since Polly made that that analogy and events that comparisons all I can think about now, when solid tox. So here's Jean Simmons talking Russell Wilson. That's one of the greatest quarterbacks he's ever seen. He's one of the better quarterbacks this league's ever had. It's my opinion. Do you think he's going to end up in the Hall of Fame? One day probably speak for a lot of people. When I say that the man is phenomenal. He gets better every year. Believe it or not, I mean, it's just his deep ball is the best in football. Now he's got a locket playing at a high level. He's got decay over there to relieve some stress off Tyler so he can free up their tight ends Our dynamic Carson. We'll see if he plays this week, but he's an unbelievable back, so they've got a tremendous amount of talent around them, and their old line is the best. It's been in a while, so they're tooled up. There's a reason why they're tops in football and they've got something going. Be good. Russell Wilson, one of the greatest quarterbacks I've ever seen. Much like, Kiss the greatest band on the planet for Robert Solid. It's true, man. You got another closer. Look at this guy right being up in Seattle himself for some time. Russell Wilson is incredible. By the way, I was watching one of his press conferences. Try to hate this guy, man. I know people will say that to me about Drew Brees. This guy he's doing the exact same stuff, man. He's he's like made a career on not really having a firm take on lots of stuff. Russell Wilson, right, Well, I think we kind of know where he stands on a lot of situations. He's also a he very much is a face in the public eye with his wife, Sierra, who is very much a face in the public eye, not a whole lot of standard. Surrounding either of them. But yesterday like for example, he announced, or they asked him about it in his media session yesterday about he's opening a charter school he his wife's feet up in the Seattle area. Much like LeBron James has done like Kevin Durant has done in DC Incredible stuff. It's an all inclusive school, etcetera. Some people I think we're trying to come. Adam about You know, taken away from the public school system, and we get into all that stuff..

"If you allow those get those three guys in the next few weeks to sit back there and just have their say at this secondary, which again will not have Sherman may next week, not have both safeties. The corners have have been solidified, but This guy's going to pick you apart. You've gotta find somebody and they're running a lot of third down stunts and blitzes and things like that. But then that leaves those guys in the you know, on an island. They've got to try to find somebody to heat up the quarterback. And why not take a chance on something? When the Jets basically give you mortar? Take him off your hands, and it doesn't make much money? Yeah, and then 40. Hundreds like you said, desperately needs some kind of perimeter rush, And I think Bringing in this Willis kid. It just just shows that maybe Dee Ford is is not in the long term plan, or he's not in and at least for the rest of this season. I know we talked about him coming back in week 11 or whatever. After the buyer, whatever that is, but You've got to find something in your Nick Bosa will come back. I just don't think Dee Ford is that guy that's going to be part of your defense. So you have to find someone that can get on that perimeter rush. So you could get Eric Armstead working, though that big arm over move on the inside, and hopefully Kinlaw continues to grow. But you've got to get some type of rush some type of some type of perimeter rush on some of these quarterbacks specially and you talk about the contained No, You got calamari still come in, and you still got two games against Russell Wilson, So that's going to be super important. One of you the 40 Niners. You gotto be there doing a nice job at pressuring the quarterback. They're just not sacking the quarterback and they're not hitting the quarterback. I mean, they'll give you get We'll get back there, but they won't. They won't actually close to the quarterback in there. They want to be a contender. They don't know what they're going to get from Dee Ford. Ronnie Blair could come back, but they're saying it may be is late is weak 10 or 12 in that range, And who knows if there's any kind of recurring injury there, you know, concerned there so You got to be able to speed up opposing quarterbacks and I'll tell you the one alarming thing from last week was that Jared Goff threw the ball when he didn't have to. And you know you don't get to many and we, you know, too many games like that on film were Quarterback gets rid of it without having to teams take notice of that, and then also, they're going to hold the football and break down your coverage and and make you play coverage that much longer and they can't get their That's what's going to happen. So hopefully hopefully this Willis at some point it out a little alleged speed. All right, let's take a time out. We're gonna come back and talk little bit about the evolving nature of Robert Salas defense. No Ford No Bosa. No, Sherman. And yet, Robert solemn made it happen last week against the Rams. We'll get into it a little bit more next on the sports leader, Very Kruger here for forward helping you control the future of your health. "Just teed it up for you here. You're right on two accounts. You're right onto again. You're not the smartest guy, but I also think you're right about giving more than very much. How can you go wrong? I mean, I have George Kittel. This is his fourth NFL season. There's never been a time throughout his four seasons with the 40 Niners that I thought to myself, Man they're throwing the ball too often had idea it hasn't happened. And I'm pretty certain that will go at least another week, thinking maybe another five years without ever thinking that there They're trying to get the ball in his hands too much. Um, but now you know you have these easy whether they call themselves the yak bro's react. Yeah, And I think this is just And maybe call. CNN's gonna be going through a little bit of a feeling out process to because You know, there's so many options now with guys that are uncommonly good at catching, you know, plants or crossing patterns or whatever, basically, you know, short to intermediate deaths and then have been finding those creases. And hitting it upfield. So you he's gonna have to kind of figure out where he's trying to get guys the ball. At what point you know which guys the match ups, and it's probably gonna be a week, two week thing. I mean, that's that's the one thing that if you had asked me like cosine against greatest strength as an offensive Designer. It's that he knows the opposing defense is seems like better than the opposing defense is no their own guys, and he is able to find those matchups. With the with the motions with the formation, the shifts and to kind of dictate who he's going to exploit. And so that that will be something else. To kind of keep An eye on today is Now that TiVo Samuel is healthy, you know another week. Ah, hey, made it through that game. Faras. The foot injury made it to pretty well, he looks he looks fine. You know, Brandon, I yuk is just looking better and better. And, uh, boy, I think he might even be more dynamic than Debo Samuel. And then we know Kittle, who's just a matchup nightmare for any Really anyone? Certainly linebackers and most defensive backs because you can run past linebackers. Ah, you know, just create separation and against defensive backs. He could just Physically manhandled them. So I think that's something that the calcium again we'll probably just be figuring out on a weekly basis. You know who's the opponent? Lets see their personnel? Oh, you know, we can go after this guy in situations where we need a big first out. A buddy of mine who coaches defense in the league told me a couple years ago. He's like the one word to describe cow. Shanahan's play calling is ruthless. He is worthless. He will find your weakness. He will go at it, and they'll stay with it. If they haven't success, Maddy great stuff As always, we'll talk to you. Okay. Thanks, guys. Enjoy the game. Matt Miyoko, NBC Sports very and can be ours. 40 Niner Insider. All right. Ryan Fitzpatrick 160 NFL Games eight franchises 16 seasons in the NFL. Ah, 166 career. Interceptions in those 160 games. How will Robert Salas scheme to go against the veteran quarterback who probably cannot be fooled? We'll talk about that coming up. Next is we get you ready for the Niners and the Dolphins on the sports leader. Tired of searching.

"All right. It's time for our conversation with John Lynch, who do it every other week Throughout the course of the football season, John, what's going on? Hey, Tommy, how you doing? You good? All right. I'm doing okay. I'm doing all right. Couple days of practice back on the practice field by these guys making us feel better, obviously, a tough loss on Sunday night, not the way we wanted or expected to play, and we gotta respond. Uh, this week. So let me ask you two different questions. How long Would you say is healthy? To hang on to a loss before moving forward and getting ready on. Then how long did it take you as a player to get over a loss? Yeah, I You know, it's not like basketball. You know, I envy you guys in some respect in that, oftentimes, after a bad night, you get to go the next night. We don't get that you gotta it soaks in, but that's also a good thing. I think sometimes you've got to use that as fuel. I think the good teams everybody, Tenet says, you know, looks themselves and say, What can I do better? I think we've got a group that's consists of people like that, who tend to take that approach. A lot of that's been going on this week, and it sticks with you probably tell you play again. Not ordinary people around here this week, and that's where it should be. And you know, I Ah, As I said, and I don't feel like we expected to play like that. I thought we'd come out and continue. You know the good play that we had going in New York and and we did it. We got it taken to us a little bit. And when we When we tried to respond. We made a little too many. Too many mistakes and that that affected the game in a big way so disappointing But you can't sulk in it. You've just got to use it as motivation to get better, and the good news is that's what I've seen transpire this week. Imitated. Well guess and say you had a hard time leaving losses in the locker room. I did. I did. And you know, I, uh, yeah. You know, I think my competitors and you know, particularly when when I didn't play my best. You know, the one thing I always tried to do was leave everything that I had on the field. And I think when you do that, you can live with yourself a little more. That doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. Um, these are long seasons. You can also go too far and beating yourself up. And, uh, I mean, I think Kyle does a tremendous job leading these guys in that, you know, we still It's not like we mope around for a week. We, uh we still have fun, and we acknowledge the good things and really try to identify where we can and need to be better. Let me get one more on that because I know I wanted to ask you this because that could be counterproductive when you're too hard on yourself, and you won't let things go because I know players. They don't take it seriously enough and there over the lost before they even get to the locker room. It's like do we just lost? I don't think we should be cranking the music to nine. Right now. But then there are other guys. You're like. But it's Wednesday. You okay? We gotta We gotta get a move on. Let that one go Learn from above, Move on, or is that you put a lot of years were is that fine line Toa where you're real serious. About what? You do what you want to make sure you don't make the mistakes again. But You don't hang on to it so long that it bleeds into what you're doing, getting ready for the next game. Well, that's you know, that's an interesting point. That was a tough transition for me like going from college to the NFL, because college No. You lose a game like everybody Be quiet all the way home on a plane Thean F L That's not really the case. You know you can't But we were losing a lot of games and on and I was still for like the first two years in that I didn't talk on the way home from a lodge and then Finally, some of the older players they do. These are long seasons. And if you if you act like that, like you're gonna last long, and and and so I do think it's a very fine line, you know. I do believe we were also real bad there in Tampa, So there's no reason that it was party. Time on the way. A lot of the right people later on. I think there is a fine balance. Yeah. You know, I think you gotta you gotta move on with things. You know, I learned as I had a family and a wife that she didn't deserve to be beated. You know, you know me to take that out on my family. You know when I came home, and so you have to learn to control that You also have to learn to kind of You know, at times when you're too hard on yourself, you know certain people, certain personalities. What you can't allow as one lost become, too, because you're carrying that over, so it's more so. Just look at what Where can I be better? That's part of good coaching, too, is identifying for your players being real honest and blunt. Where where they where you can be better. And then also a. You know, you did everything you could on that play. You just got beat, You know, So I think that's identifying. You know, where can we be better? And like I say, you know, the good news is, I think we got a lot of the right people here. And so the response is usually good to those. God, we're Ah, You know, every every GM would imagine is different. You were there were, you know Hall of Fame caliber safety. So I mean, do you watch? Do you watch film alone? Do you watch film with your defense of staff? Do you wanna have impact John on Robert Salas staff and what kind of You know what kind of game plan you have for the Dolphins? How hands on do you get like on that kind of stuff?.

"From Levi Stadium on Sunday night football and we've seen a lot of different players hit the field for the Niners already this year, the reinforcements and some guys who did not see a lot of Last year. So are 40 100 Players spotlight for week for It's gonna be the cornerback Jason Verrett, who've got a lot of attention this week from 40 Niner brass, head coach Kyle Shanahan, defensive coordinator Robert Sala and even his general manager, John Lynch, praising the work that he did to get back on the field after missing almost all of last season. Now, if you recall last year, 2019 against the Pittsburgh Steelers was a rough day for Jason Verrett stepped onto the field, committed a pass interference penalty and then fell down was promptly removed from the game. Niners. I lost the game but were able to come back after a forced fumble down near the goal line for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Matters came back to win, but we did not see much of Jason Verrett Well last week, we saw plenty to solo tackles for him. Last week, he did have a pass deflection. He played 87% of the snaps for the defense. 40 Niner D coordinator Robert Salas spoke this week to the media about how he's not sure that anyone has gone through what Jason Verrett has done to get back on the football field. But don't take away from other people, but what he's been through both mentally and physically and And what he's had to go through the roller coasters, the ups and downs of trying to get back to the football field. I don't know if there's a lot of empathy in the world, aside from the people that are in the locker room with him to see his grind and what he doesn't when he stands forward, you have AH, entire organization cheering him on and love what he's doing and beyond just the playing ability. It's just what he's been through and how hard he stuck to it and all the things that he's had to go through it and the trials and tribulations that he's had to endure, so he's gonna be happy enough for him, and I just practice for him the individual that he continues to have Plus who doesn't wanna root for a local kid outta Fairfield right here in the Bay area. Jason went off to play a TCU and that was drafted in the first round number 25 overall by the Chargers back in 2014 has not played a full season at any point in his NFL career, his highlight coming back in 2015 when he played 14 games. "Talking about thie the field conditions at MetLife Stadium, which now it's just kind of sorry. Niners go play on it. That's that's basically what the NFL has done is they went, looked at the New York Giants. Did the Jets did the field there? The the turf manufacturer? Whoever it is, they all went out and they looked at it. They analysed it. They did a comprehensive study of it. I don't know. But they said they did. And then they said, there's nothing wrong with it. You gotta go play. I was watching some of the press conferences or some of the media sessions with the 40 Niners from yesterday and Ben Garland. They were asking him first about his place where he was that blocking in front of Remo stirred. They were joking with him about how They track all that stuff the speeds for the runners for the running backs and the receivers, but you don't get the speed tracking for the offensive lineman, and he said Trent Williams by far the fastest offensive lineman has ever seen, but anyway, they ask him to sort of quickly about the turf it, he said. I thought the turf shocked. And it wasn't like he wouldn't elaborate. It's almost as though guys don't talk about it like they don't want to talk about referee's, because if you talk about rescue can get get fined, supposed to undercut or undermine referee decisions in the media, and we still see it happen all the time, and coaches get fined for it. But for a guy like Ben Garland, he's not. He's not a skill position player making tons of coin. I don't think he's going to come out and slam things. They're going to get him in trouble. Also there to the point where you know were they were being asked this stuff on Thursday, as Robert Salas said, they're they're things you can control. They tried to control that they tried to point it out to the NFL and say, This is dangerous. This is unsafe. Our guys, We're not feeling comfortable on it, and the league looked at it. And now, they said, it's good to go. So now it's out of your control. Now it's time for you to go play. The best you can do is go play. So Robert Solow was asked about the all gas No brakes mentality. And how do you keep that when you're concerned about a field service and he said You just can't think about it. You just gotta go play and and handle what you can handle. Injuries are gonna happen, and that's what kind of brings us to this next cut. Here is George Kettle yesterday sat down in front of the media and a. I don't know if it makes you wonder. Do they just put him out there because he hadn't been out there in a week. Do they put him up there because he may actually be playing this weekend, and he's a questionable add to this injury list like he said. He's a guy who may Who may be out there after we saw him in a limited capacity yesterday, working out, he actually and I didn't realize this was not with the team at all. On Sunday in New York, he was rehabbing. They asked him what he was doing and where he was during the game. He said he was rehabbing watching the game. He said he watched the first quarter on Then there were two injuries and he said, I'm gonna go outside. He said. I think I'm bad luck watching TV fluid and met them in West Virginia, and now he's a limited practice participant, But it all started with that knee injury week. One Buddha Baker comes in after the high throw from Jimmy G. And I didn't think it was a cheap shot but has got to come in low because George jumped into the air if George doesn't jump And Buddha hits him, probably right in the fire right in the gut of the rib cage. Wherever it is, he's blowing him up there, but he jumps and he comes down and hits him a little bit low. The as Marcus, the water boy, Boucher just said to me, the strike zone or, like the zone in which you're supposed to hit a guy. He's so specific now. It's really tough to not have a head that looks like it's it's in bad form, right, so Buddha Baker. Obviously he's a guy who's known for play in these times of heads. You saw the racist comments that were sent to him from, you know you want to acknowledge that it's a 40 Niner fan. Somebody here in the Bay Area supporting this team that the team is now denounced, said That person is not a part of our family, not a part of our organisation anyway. George Kendall was asked yesterday by the media like Buddha. Baker's been catching some heat for this that it was a cheap hit that he came in a little bit too Lo. Have you had an opportunity to talk to him or or? Ah, sort of hash this out? Did you feel like it was a cheap shot or low hit? You know, actually talked him Sunday after the game and Monday. You know, really the whole week and it's football. He's I mean, he's gonna hit me low like that's what you know it's football to hit. I don't think it was. There's no intent in it. He's just trying to tackle May bring me down. His first words as if I was okay. I apologize for the hit me, but like I said, it's football. I get hit all the time, and that's what it is. It's what you signed up for when you play the game. But it was a clean hit. It's like I said, it's football, and if he tried to take it easy on me, I give him crap for that, and I'm glad that you didn't. He's a hell of a player in the place like he played pro ball pro level every single week. We had 15 tackles against us. Pretty big deal, a starting safety, So he's incredible player and he was just making a football play. And unfortunately it was an awkward hit. And it is what it is. And we both move on these guys. They're going 100 Miles an hour. You don't mean lychee. The thing that we don't we don't take into account. I think of a lot to is how much control these guys have over their bodies weigh more than you were. I have any control over our body right? Like if we were to get on the trampoline and try to do different like plyometric things or do different things to contort your bodies in certain ways and continue to put pressure and speed and volume and velocity in certain in certain areas of what we're doing athletically. It's never going to come across the same as these guys are. They have more control over their bodies than any of us do. And maybe ever will have so for a guy like me, you know, it's such when your guy gets hurt, but you're not gonna you know. There's no use crying over spilt milk, right? He's heard it happened. He got banged in the needs a bone bruise. This stuff happens. It just sucks that it happened to George Kendall and the animus a game because of it, But it's also a positive. I think that the game you missed. It was against the New York Jets. There's a lot more to get into regarding injuries..

"They did that twice last year. Don't forget where they stayed on the East Coast. They started They started the season in Cincinnati last year, and then they went to Tampa number stayed in, like Youngstown. I don't know that they're going to Young said. I think they're staying somewhere else. Last month when we make the connection with him on the other side, I feel like he mentioned it yesterday. I can't remember where they said they were staying anyway s. Oh, yeah, for dinner is gonna be on the East Coast. I don't know if he means that. Could be bad staying in New York for an extended period of time. If he thinks that just stay in away from home is bad other good rather than stay back east. They worked out for them fine. Just a couple of times last year, so anyway, they're staying in West Virginia. There's the update. Thank you, Murph. I know you're at home listening somewhere, and I don't know. Eat an apple or ah, hardboiled, Probably salt, a hard boiled egg or something. That's a merge student. I know his morning routine. Stay away from Polly, and it is it is hard Boiled day. Haven't seen him do the routine in a while, but we'll talk more about it with Murph on the other side anyway, let's get into some of the 40 Niners stuff. Yesterday it was Robert Salas, who took the podium and I think that maybe we're putting. Not Maybe we put a lot of pressure drop below and the defense wasn't all that good last week. I didn't think collar Murray kind of picked them apart. Even talk did Robert solid yesterday but a miscommunication on the play call on the DeAndre Hopkins touchdown. Your call Hopkins sort of pops out to the right side coming across the middle, and he's wide open. Nobody covering him. Nobody around on. He takes it all the way to gets hit the right before he gets in. But he said there was a miscommunication on a play called They're So Anyway. Let's hear from Robert Sala. They asked him starting this off. Are you surprised to see your guy Frank Gore, not your guy, but to see former 40 Niner and Future Hall of Famer Frank or is still out there totally rock. Frank got a tremendous amount of respect for him. Obviously, I've never had a chance to really interact with them up. But all I've heard from people around this building and people who have interacted with them in different buildings that he is the first one in last one out, takes unbelievable care of his body and has such a deliberate approach to the game and the way he approaches every single day. And so it's no surprise that when you have people who are built that way they do last long as they have, and then when you turn on the tape, he's still the same patient, physical downhill, running back that he's been his entire career and I'm pumped for him that he gets toe continue live out his child. Remon excited for us that we get the challenge tickle tackle. Do Dave. Just whisper this in my ear, and I can't stop thinking about it. Robert Salas sends exactly why Gene Cernan It's I don't know if you want to pull it up in my fuller in the morn Sure folder. There was a cut in their of Gene Simmons. We played it for Polly back are palling back at his roll this in Ah, maybe about a month or so ago and talking about money. We did a one of our lists during the quarantine on money. He's talking about money. Just maybe for the next segment of what we do. The face off will get that ready. Let's get this more solemn and then we'll do that We'll have the face off. The side by side with Robert Solon, Gene Simmons. Anyway, they're facing Quinn and Williams. We got taken after Nick Bosa last year in the draft, and they asked Robert Stahl about that You had an opportunity to go get a big D tackle like Quentin Williams. Did you consider taking him or was it always boast coming out of college? Couldn't unbelievable football player still think Sky's the limit for him, But for us, it was most of our bus, to be honest with you if he was there. I mean, it was. I don't know if there was much indecision. I think the entire organization was on the same page with that one. Yeah, I think I think everybody's happy with how that worked out. Nick posted pretty damn good selection in the draft. So let's hear from post he sat down at the podium yesterday. I keep saying podium, it is all on zoom. For some reason. Robert's L assume connection, like better than anybody's. Right. Robert Salas, like he's like, maybe he's on a baby's on a hard line or something. I don't know. Here's make both talkingabout being drafted ahead of quitting Williams and he gives a little take on. I'm just really happy that I ended up here, and I'm glad they felt confident enough to pick me. Quinton hung out thumb a bit at the combine These funny, good dude. I don't know much about him as a player, but I watched him his junior season at Alabama and he looked amazing, and I'm sure he's going to get the hang of it here. Pretty Soon because he's super talented and he's got everything you need. So too good players and I'm happy I get picked one above him didn't close. It has the best speech rather than sports. Just really happy that I ended up here and don't forget Quentin Williams before he was drafted when he went to meet with him in the Jets could have been another team. I can't remember Hey went to Denny's, and we can get everything on the menu like that. He was like I want to go to Denny's and civility just was ordering food and Denny's dead. That's what he did. It's a meeting. Going to D linemen who could eat like that? You're like, Okay, man. All right, that was Nick Bosa on quitting. Williams. I want some more from Bosa hasn't seen a whole lot of lawsuits in his career right? Four losses last season, including the Super Bowl on he's already lost one week. One. How does a Nick Bosa handle a week after a week? One loss is kind of anxious, frustrated a little bit. Obviously, we didn't start off how we wanted, but it's the NFL and you've got to move on to the next says there's a lot more games we played and you let this feeling linger than you're not goingto. Play well the next week, so putting that behind us. We're playing a team that allows us to kind of play our scheme this week, and we're excited about that and getting on with the season getting back to what we dio. Yeah, pretty good mindset there. By the way, Dave whispers in my ear we're talking about Nick posted out, losing many games so far in his career, Joe Burrow what a performance last night from him through the ball like 60 times.

"How he feels about what jumped out to me was the the back of the line on this team. The D line is strong, but the back of the line in the off season has gotten better. Street looked like a monster. Kevin Givens looked better. The kid they brought in from was a Detroit carry. Haider Looks like he's got a motor and is going to contribute, You know, not to mention you get an Arian, Daniels, Daniels and Nebraska. I mean, they're so deep on the D line this year. That it's really, really exciting. The deejay Jones thing is it a shoulder is it was, they said it was a concussion. But was it a concussion and a shoulder was a concussion in the shoulder was erroneous. What's his status? Yeah, we're, uh, Were you out there that day? No. I think that have not happened Friday. I was there Saturday. OK? Yeah. So it looked like shoulder and you know they were the medical staff was was looking. You know, they do the hand underneath the shoulder pad to check that out. So the first fear I had for him was that this was going to be B'elanna broken collarbone or something along those lines. They checked him out. And, according to call, CNN said that the shoulder checked out fine. And then They diagnosed him with a concussion. And he made it sound like he wasn't the sheriff. It was from that play, so I'm sure that the shoulder is is banged up and bruised a little bit, but it sounds like once he is cleared through the concussion protocol, he will be able to get back out there and that the shoulder is not a concern or anything that That would be able to keep him off the practice field, let alone the playing field for the opener, and he basically said that, you know, obviously it's not good news that the guy had a concussion. But when you take into consideration what could have possibly Carried over until the early part of the season. Then the fact that it it it wasn't a shoulder injury is a good thing for him, and he should be out there week one. Hey, Matt. What have you noticed in cow Shanahan between the time he got here? And now, especially after making it to AH Super Bowl man. He's always been ah, pretty cocky, pretty self assured Gap. But if you notice anything different in And maybe his his confidence level or the way he approaches from moving that confidence the right word, But the way approaches practice the way he handles certain situations. Is there anything different about him? Now that is discernible for you. Ah, watching him between when he got here now. I know. I think that He's been the same guy. And the thing I guess it surprised me the most and I what I'd heard about him before I got to know him and he came to the 40 matters was so how would he be able to you know what his head explode if the team won 10 games over two seasons. And a head did not explode. He kept on the right path. You think John Ledge. Having him in the building was was really good for him. But there was a plan and he was He stayed true that plan and I thought, even even when they were horrible team before Grodd flows arrival, and and then after Grandpa went out and In 2018. Hey, did a really good job of just working And the first year. A lot of it was kind of figuring out which guys would stay which guys would go but building the plan and the expectations that he had for the team, and I think that the difference I see now is that the machine runs a lot more smoothly. And he doesn't necessarily have to be at the wheel 24 hours a day. I think now that he had the players that he wants, and they understand the expectations. I think now that he has a pretty good coaching staff, really good coaching staff. In fact, a lot of those guys who have been with him before He's able to delegate a little bit more given more responsibility than Mike McDaniel. More responsibility that Michaela Floor, you know, he still keeps his keeps his imprint a little bit on the defense in Brother Sola talk a lot about Different things and depth, chart issues and all that, But you know, it's Robert Salas, baby, So I think he's able to, um Maybe take a step back and not necessarily feel like he has to be on top of everything, because now he's pretty confident in not only the locker room, but you know the coach's room, the guys that he has working for him. So I would say that that supply that the biggest difference that I've seen is that he's not just everything he has to. He doesn't have to micromanage everything. Now he's coached the players up in the coach's up well enough through the first three years are first two years really that it kind of runs a little bit more smoothly without him. Having to insert himself into everything. There's a lot of continuity there, player wise coaching wise, you know, they got a lot of lot of familiar faces down there. Yeah, that's all right going into the beers. Yeah, right. Yeah. Okay. You got me motivated now, So now you can be our nine or insider..

"The bunch was out wider. He came off the offense is right. Then he went back to Aaron Rodgers and just punch the football out in tackle football. Juan Williams and terrific Blitzer. Robert Salas sends him Andre Greenlaw. It's an overload blitz. They can't block Kamal. I think Aaron Rodgers just dropped that football jacket at slapped it with his right hand Backers. Fortunately for themselves, were able to come up with the recovery and get away from those big time. Starting to feel a lot like November the 24th all over again, Jake a Scot that he shanked it like he did back in week 12. Where did they go out of bounds? 40 Niner territory. Green territory of all that didn't even get out to the 40. I don't think there was a 20 yard punt a complete shanked by J. K. Scott, who is sick. They weren't certainly could front today. With the flu, and he also shanked a 33 yarder right before halftime here in a week 12 and I got the 40 Niners an extra field bill, so the 40 Niners will start a green paste 34 yard line. When we come back, it's 12 32 to play. Second quarter all 40 Niners. They laid the Packers 10 to nothing. And you're listening to the NFC Championship game of the U. S. Bank. 40 Niners radio Network.
