"These teams are so far away from being relevant so far away from being good this time really only can be hearken back to in one thousand nine hundred seventy s when the jets missed the playoffs for ten straight years. Which by the way the jets have tied now the if the jets miss the playoffs this year will be ten straight and you know the. The giants are added playoffs every year since two thousand sixteen so seventeen eighteen nineteen twenty twenty one now. This will be the fifth consecutive year. The giants have missed the playoffs. Just nothing but incompetence from these two teams but like i said the jets lost today for the denver broncos. Twenty six nothing. that's right. I said twenty six nothing and no adam. Gays did not come back to coach the team. The last couple of weeks adam. Gays did not have the reins of of the offense that we so rightfully so criticized during his tenure. Here new york the jets have so far. You know if you look less year just were owing three like i said through those three games. They were outscored. Ninety four to thirty seven terrible absolutely terrible will this year. They've been outscored. Seventy two twenty so somehow even though the jets offense was terrible as year through three games. They've actually managed to score seventeen less points than they did last year. Incredible it doesn't it doesn't make sense. It boggles the mind. How bad the jets have been Through these first couple games you know offensively really the only time. They looked like competent. Offense was in the second half of the first game against carolina the entire game against the patriots. Patriots are really good defensive teams so i not gonna kill them for it but the entire game against the patriots. They look bed. You know you had zach going out there. Throwing four interceptions look terrible. this week. He goes there to get shutout. Jose mustard last week was two field goals. They mustard nothing today. They had a chance to make ten to three early on and hit a fifty six yard field. Goal which kicker rookie kicker matt amendola did hit. He drilled a fifty six yard or right down the middle but then they had a five yard penalty for delay of game which was ridiculous and they deserved it though. It wasn't a bad call by the officials. Were just ridiculous that the holder couldn't get the the stat down the ball. Dannon time absolutely ridiculous. The jets ended up blowing that that cost themselves five yards. It went to a from a fifty six yard field goal to a sixty one yard field goal. You know. I understand robert sala not wanting to get crazy especially if you watch football like i did. You saw the game earlier in the day where You know a hundred and nine yard Was one hundred. Nine yard. Touchdown was brought back by the jacksonville special teams player..

That means that robert sala will most likely officially began his career as the first muslim head coach in. Nfl history the day after the twentieth anniversary of nine eleven. How significant do you think that is for. Robert solid very significant on many levels. And i know robert talked about the meaning of it in his introductory press conference. It's humbling and You know especially back home Where i'm from dearborn michigan. So there's a lot of pride and so it is a very humbling experience and you know when you look at a An end for organizations and you look at the locker room and and it's like the ultimate melting pot of different people in different races and different Stories that get together with one goal and so out to be a part of that as as special reg after thirty two years of service covering this team. "Think there's a case i do think there's a case i'm not saying it's a good one a big one by think that urban meyer has a chance to surprise everybody with his games and then i would also say that was. That was the other one. I was gonna say if it's not david kelly. What's the ceiling of this coach. Urban meyer i'm just i one of the most successful college coaches in history. There's a there's a case you made that. Yeah he's got some good place. I'm not. I bet. More on. Arthur smith but i always say that all three of those guys aren't gonna win enough to be actually be top ten. I'm just saying in that discussion. Are the jets. Grab a wildcard. Is robert sala for like the guy who could be on the statistics here. Yes i mean if the jets grab a wildcard. I think that they're going to is going to be candidate candidate. Heroes parade kevin. You brought up a good name in terms of brain and staley. She is by far the highest. Like new guy that i have ranked on here based on what i have seen and what i've heard from him in the past and my belief that he still going to even though he's on the defensive side of the ball allow his offense to be a little bit more free being that he was a former quarterback and understands that position a little bit. So i mean i think that he has the potential to be there and discussed like the defense mine. Too guys we've talked about. Who at least for me on my list. Was you know brian. florez and or sean mcdermott. Like these defense guys who let their offenses be a little bit more creative. So i'm excited to see it I i will say there's like just a really good crop of of head coaches in this top twelve thirteen that it is going to be a little bit difficult to crack it. But i'm looking forward to seeing what he can do without team. I would also we keep doing this on these list. Just enter titans corner in minutes. Seventy five Because we didn't mention my brave. All straight playoff berths including an se title run in two thousand nineteen and if he continues to win he's definitely in this conversation next year. All right guys.

"So you go from there to think and well then, obviously to Shana Watson. You know that bidding war something the Niners and not gonna want to get themselves involved in doesn't now come down to sort of a binary choice between Her cousins. If you could get him and Jimmy Garoppolo, or are all of these science, pointing to Jimmy Garoppolo and the quarterback carousel for the Niners is going to stop with him. Well, I don't think the quarterback carousel ever stops in the in the NFL. It's a very good point Gold for everybody. People keep mining it for all it's worth. But, um, I think at the end of the day it zombie Garoppolo And really, the question is, should be Garoppolo and who else is behind him? Right now. It's Jimmy Garoppolo in Josh Johnson are the only cubes signed for the off season. Um, they go through the offseason with four so they're two more spots open. Um, you know, I think that they're gonna draft a quarterback and certainly the first time since 2017 that they've done so And the question would be how highly do they They tracked it. Do they use the number? 12 pick Or is it somebody like a C? J. Better that they pick up with one of their their multiple third round picks show that's That's how I see it playing out. I mean, I think they're gonna Yeah, this is this is part of their M. 02 is to be in on trades like Matt Stafford. They like to be in on the action in case you know, something unexpected happens. Sure it sends. It sends a signal toe. Other teams that you know the 40. Niners are always open for action. So if we've got a trade, let's let's give John Lynch a call. They want to. They want to be receptive to all, um, transactions and acquisitions and things like that. Just you know, so that if something like a Jimmy Garoppolo, which happened out of the blue and 2017 comes along Um, they're they're one of the first teams that are that are called so that that's part of the reason why they're always mentioned, Uh, you know whether it's the Austin Hooper for the tight end from Atlanta last year toe Lady on belt kind of goes on Way back toe Nobby, Awesome Juan and guys from a decade ago, that's That's been their business practice to do that. So it's a long way of saying I expect them to be mentioned to be in on the Shawn Watson if it ever comes to pass, But you're right. It's it's hard to see them outbidding some of these other teams for watching. You know, the whole thing is really interesting because it's like going back to Garoppolo. It's like clearly if they like Garoppolo, they would have locked him up, extended him and figured everything out. Instead, they've looked around last year and this year Just looking at this draft. Okay, So let's just say Lawrence goes one to Jacksonville because everybody thinks that's gonna happen. The Jets are sitting there too. They may go quarterback. They may not, Um, maybe they go with the kid from BYU. Maybe they go with the Buckeye guy. Or maybe they maybe they trade forward to Shawn Watson. What do you think of the of the idea of, um trading with Robert Sala up in the draft for guy like Zach Wilson? Do you think I mean Two me, the guys. The quarterbacks that arm or ready to play would be Mack Jones of Alabama and Zach Wilson from BYU. I think those guys are probably more ready to play earlier on. But what do you think of the idea of trading? Maybe, you know some package of picks and players to move up to two. Yeah. I mean, it's something that California han, um he's been hesitant about. Rookie quarterbacks, and part of that was because back in 2017 when they were adding quarterbacks. They knew that this was a rebuild. They knew that Kirk cousins might be available in creating see Um so he didn't go in that direction. I don't know if their position has changed to a point where they would, um, kind of changed their stance on that. My My instinct is to say no, that they feel like their their window of opportunity is wide open right now and that if you bring in a Zach will senior, you're taking a bit of a risk and in the short term We don't know if he's going to be good, and you don't know how quickly he's gonna pick up this. This offense, which has been a challenge for even multi year veterans, guys like Matt Ryan. So, um, That's why I don't think that they would now the guy that interests me is Trey Lance, because he's somebody that you you would think might even make it. Uh 12. Just given his sort of peculiar college career, Um, but he's got all the kind of physical skills that you would just love. So you would have the situation where you've got the veteran Jimmy Garoppolo and you've got Really intriguing guy behind him. Who would, you know, basically not do anything his first year, But you know, in 2022 all of a sudden you've got a legitimate Plan B in case you, don't you? You decided once and for all toe part ways with Jimmy Garoppolo. How is Garoppolo handling this? Because it does. I haven't heard anything from him or have been no reports that the these disillusioned it on when there is Tom Brady last year. There is Stafford this year that maybe you know it'd stories about the night is interesting. Watson. It just Hi. How is he feeling? Because if he could just like truck this off, like, Hey, you know that's the business. You know, they like I got to do better. I gotta stay healthy. I understand it like you can get it. But these guys still have feelings. And sometimes feelings get hurt, like godly. You know, they trusted me a couple of years ago, and now they're saying what they can do to get me out of here had How's he handling all this? You think Well, I haven't talked to him after the Stafford stuff. I did talk to him after the Brady dalliance last year, and he said, You know, two things that you know it's calm Brady. Of course, the 40 Niners had toe Kind of look at it and investigated And the other thing you said was that John Lynch and Palate Phantom hand kind of kept him, um, apprised of everything every step of the way there was constant contact with him. Which he said he appreciated that honesty and any really didn't seem bothered at all by it. I mean, I think you're right. You have to be to some degree. They're basically saying, you know, we're still interested in another quarterback, and you haven't sold us. Um and his other takeaway was that that's That's what the NFL is there. People are constantly trying to take your job and your coaches air trying tow constantly figure out if there's a way to bring in somebody better than you, and so It was a very rational take in the matter. Um, And then you could make the argument that maybe he should have been more heard. You know, he should have been more offended, like a like a Matt Ryan would have been really ticked off over it..

Um Jimmy Garoppolo Shawn Watson Garoppolo John Lynch Tom Brady Shana Watson NFL BYU Matt Stafford Matt Ryan Zach Wilson Jets Mack Jones Stafford Robert Sala Lawrence Kirk Austin Hooper

How 9/11 Set Robert Saleh on the Path to Coaching the New York Jets

"And how many years have you been covering this franchise. Pablo f govern the jets for thirty two years. Which is longer than any person in history that's deserves a purple heart or you know a trip to the insane asylum but yes. It's thirty two years. And so how. Many coaches coaches have you seen. Come through the new york jets in that time. Yeah it's funny because the other day w- before they introduced roberts sala. I went back and checked because we need covered. That long. And the jets chains coaches so often you lose track over over time. He ends well. Total man okay. So you're the perfect person to talk to today. Your latest piece rich is about number twelve robert sala and his decidedly unique journey to new york city and the nfl coaching ranks. So before we get into all of the football and there is so much there. Tell me a little bit about robert. Saleh's background where did he grow up in. What was his upbringing like. Robert grew up in dearborn michigan which is just outside of detroit. Most people know it as a home of ford motor company but it's also the largest percentage of arab americans in the country. He is the grandson of lebanese immigrant. Muslim neighborhood a very strong and closely knit neighborhood and football was a big part of it. At robert really has football in his family. His dad played at eastern michigan university. He was. I'm told a very good middle linebacker. In fact he had a tryout with the chicago bears uncles who played cousins. Who played his older brother. David played all at ford's in high school. You mentioned the solid name at forts in high school and there is a strong tradition. Some of the best players in the schools history are members of the family from an early age. When robert was a seven year old waterboy for his older brother's football team. Football has been a huge part of his life. The family's life very much part of his upbringing in dearborn michigan so robert is growing up in this lebanese-american muslim family in dearborn a football family. What kind of player was robert himself. Yeah very good player. A captain in highschool played two ways. He was a linebacker in a tight end and really good. I talked to his high school coach. Jeff sturdiness in. I asked him. I said what kind of player was robert. He said he was like all the other solids he can really hit. You actually wears a bracelet to this day on his on his wrist during games. It says extreme violence. So i guess we could describe him as a very physical player who was good enough to get a scholarship in northern michigan and he went on to become an all conference. Tight end in northern michigan fell was ever a serious option for him. But i would say you know a really good ice school football player who enjoyed a solid career. So if you're a football player with that decidedly unsubtle mission statement rich. What do you do after college. Robert went to the exact opposite spectrum of what that mission statement would be. I mean he goes to work behind a desk working a nine to five job in a very stuffy. Corporate office building in downtown detroit is a credit analyst for america bank putting his finance degree work. His brother david is in the financial world is well you know. He graduated with a finance degree. So this is just following in the footsteps of his family. You know his dad had some done. Some business work. His grandfather was actually owned his own furniture store in dearborn. So he's really robert. Sala is point in his life in the year. Two thousand just anna colleges just following in the footsteps of some of his other relatives.

"Cris Carlin. Emmett Golden and the drama in Houston just continues with two Shawn Watson reports out of Miami today from The Herald. And Armando. So Garrow saying that Shawn Watson confirmed two friends this week that his top two destinations as far as a trade scenario. Would be the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins in that order. Which brings us to straight talk, brought to you by straight talk Wireless and and think about that for a second. He cited the hiring of Robert Sala by the New York Jets. As the number one reason that he wanted to potentially go join the Jets as early as they are in their rebuilding process. And wanted the Houston Texans to interview Sala along the way. Think about the fact that in the span of just a few weeks Hey, superstar quarterback in the league. Wants to go play for the New York Jets. Not as yet forced to go My way like Brett Farve was back in the day. Oh, you wants to go play for the New York Jets. It must be a new year. It has to be and you know, and look, I like saliva, too, like I think he's gonna be a good head coach. But if I was this shine, I'd wait and see. You know, it's the Jets e think they gotta have a number of things, you know, toe workout. They just haven't been a stable franchise. Now. I say that understanding that the Texans are very stable. Right now, Um, I am surprised that there it feels like they're the last team that is waiting to find Ah, head coach when they let go of O'Brien early in the game. When teams do that usually feel like Oh, they have a head start. They have a head start on everything and they did have a head start on destroying the relationship with their superstar quarterback. How do you mess that up if all he wanted was just a little input. Even if you're not going to take it, you at least have to play the game. I am blown away that Houston has fumbled this the way that they have. How simple was it? After listening to him. Before you're going to go and announce to your guy is Just following up with him. Hey, here's a thought process. This is why we're going in this direction. This is what we think. And I think you would have avoided a lot of these problems now. I think there is something to be said for all of the issues about the about Social justice, public nearest comment a couple of years ago before he passed away and his overall dissatisfaction, but Now, if you're the Texans At what point here. Do you have to make your decision Because let's let's Figure this out pretty logically. Jobs number 12 and three for Nick a stereo or to fix this. You have to fix this. You can't let too. Shawn Watson walk away and you have to attempt to fix it more than once. Because this even though you're going to make a trade, and you're going to get a hall in return There's a reason that you're going to get a hole in return. This kind of quarterback never becomes available via tricked. Never never in. What I don't understand to your point is why they haven't tried that right. Listen, there's times when my wife and I get into disagreements. I won't call them arguments. I'll calm disagreements right and I go to talk to her, she says. Leave me alone. Leave her alone. But then I come back that you got to talk to her again. She said Leave me alone. I leave her alone. Then I come back. And before you know it, we're friends again, and we have a happy, healthy marriage. All you have to do when you have, especially a guy like of the shine Watson. It's just such a great football player. He just wants to feel like he's important. He got told he was important and then he got shown that he was not And I think that's the problem here. I believe it can be fixed. But they're doing a horrible job fixing this and it may be beyond repair. I know that's what a lot of people are saying, But I'd be going down swinging. If I was a Houston, Texas. Well, part of the problem. There is what they've been doing with the head coaching interview process and Okay. They've come around to actually interviewing Eric. The enemy and You say? All right, well, maybe they are legitimately doing it. Or maybe they're just doing it to try toe apiece to Shawn. At this point. Either way, it doesn't look good that they weren't planning on doing it in the first place. Now you hear names like Josh McCown and no offense to Josh McCown to me to suggest that you're gonna have a player come right off the field and become a head coach, even if they are as incredibly brightest. Josh McCown is You know, that's that's insulting to a guy like the enemy in a lot of ways. Why would he be competing with a guy like that for this job now and you know, earlier this week Alex Smith was asked about this now. Alex Smith would know all about Eric the enemy from their Kansas City days and Even Alex Smith is we hear from him now? Really surprised that the enemy is not a head coach yet? Think it's ridiculous that he hasn't been hired. Yet. It's I know that interview process is weird with the team that's still in it, But But regardless, I don't know. I don't see how you can excuse it. I think Eric's number one quality and it was apparently the first day I met him his leadership leadership ability. A true leader of men. Here's a guy that had played for a long time was a great teacher. Commanded respect because he gave respect also You know? How is it that when you have somebody like that Who is Really respected. I mean, I was looking for a different word but is respected as he is by his players, and he doesn't have this opportunity yet absolutely blows my mind. Maybe there's stuff that worked that we don't know about, but I honestly can't believe that it's that when you've had the Chiefs to be where they are the last couple of years. I've heard written people randomly throw out. Well, maybe he doesn't interview whales. Come on, work work, maybe then interview. Well, I mean in his interview what the Kansas City Chiefs are able to do on offense week after week after week. That's a hell of an interview for males about it. Listen, I know it's Patrick Holmes. But, you know, Hey, The other one that bugs me too about it is well, Andy Reid calls the place. Well, then why did Doug Peterson get a head coaching job? Why did Matt name get a head coaching job seems situation. So exactly the situation. He doesn't interview. Well stuff, right? I hate that. I hate that thing. And I see Josh McCown's name pop up and I really like Josh. You know, I know I'm a little bit from his time here in Cleveland, and I just have a great respect for him for the man..

"Of the four seasons that we've been able to be there. There's been nothing but great times. And despite the, uh, struggles and all the things that happened to us this year that the support and the Uh, dedication that fans showed I'll never, ever ever take it for granted or not not appreciate what they've meant to us, A zit family, and so we're gonna miss the bay. Um, but like I've always said it's It's never good Bye. It's more. See you later. And, uh And I'll leave you with all gas and good luck next season. That was Robert Sala earlier with us If you missed it gotta can. VR dot com So it's Robert Stall out the door. It's Michael flew out the door. John bitten out the door and Martin Mayhew as well. Let's talk all about that, and more, plus the Championship weekend. Matt Miyoko are 40 Niners insider joins us courtesy of the human guests sign. What's happening? Nothing too much. Couple thoughts. One is. Did he say anything about the people who thought he should be fired after his 1st and 2nd season number two old gas? Isn't that what got Jim Tom schooling? Problems serious beginning and well done. Well done, mate. It's good. Have a good week. Like on that man is really good. Wake up till it solid. I got today They're already making their already making sweatshirts back there all gas, no brakes. They love that and You know, he had a pretty low bar mean And when Adam gave me those eyes are flying all over the place, and they're all solid. Basically had to do was look straightened forward. He had that thing one. So, Yeah, And I think it also helped him that his press conference was on the same day as the Lions press conference, and he had made no references to cannibalism s. Oh, that was good finding kneecaps. Yep. Yeah. So you know, Robert well, you and you obviously knew him but better accept this past year, But you know, you did a weekly zoom with them. And a lot of it. We all know what a solid football coach he is, but he's got a win on the field. But the other part of dealing with New York is dealing with the media. You guys You're tough out here, but not like they are back there in the tri state area. So a Zafar is interacting with the tabloids in the New York papers and the way they kind of extrapolated things you say And you know, hyperbole. Eyes here and there. How do you think I'll handle the New York media? Once he's there and talking to him 23 times a week, man. You could be great. You know, I think that I think that he doesn't get he's not thin skinned. You know that? That's the people who are thin skin. They're probably more than anywhere else. They just can't you know, they get defensive. They get combative, and that just causes problems and you you have to kind of take you with a grain of salt and and Robert saw, even during the bad times. He always took the high road and he was always Very measured in what he said. And and when you know, people question him, he didn't take a sense he would explain. You know, now that was a big thing. I communication is his thing. And and I thought he handled his duties with the 40 Niners about as well as he could, and I always thought with him. People who saw it. You know you're hiring a defensive coordinator. Why would any team hire a defensive coordinator to be the head coach? With him. I never saw his candidacy as any head coach in the league tied to what he does on the defensive side, the ball I mean, he's not reinventing the wheel. You know, I think with Kyle she and again The stuff that he does offensively is very unique, and it's it's very much what he does. And the reason that call CNN got in the door with the 40 Niners. And what about six other teams? I think that off season was because of what he does. On the offensive side, the ball and and then once he gets in, then you can explain his vision for the organization, and his recipe is so much different than solace because I think Robert's Allah isn't doing anything extreme with a defense that is not You know, you look at their defense and you go on, like God, I can't believe that they know they're on the cutting edge of doing this. That's phenomenal. Know what Saul is all about is having a plan. Teaching it to his coaching staff, teaching it to his players and then creating a mindset within that defense and so to me his skills as a head coach. Far exceed what they're drawing up a far as cover three. His skill was relating to players tapping into each individual and what motivates them. In finding those players putting them together, getting them all to work together, and I think that that's why what he does is a coach really transcends the defensive side. And I wasn't at all surprised to hear him say yesterday that he's not gonna be The defense of play caller. He's going to hand that over to our old friend Jeff, all brick. Um in let him handle that in solids. Gonna oversee the entire team. Miracles, junior stalking Robert Sala and the rest of the 40 Niners. Some other departures were going into Martin Mayhew and just second Haywood. He had unbelievable praise for D'Amico..

"The Goodyear hotline. Jordan is doing a dance with that I've not seen in probably 25 years. Um Okay, let's see what's going on in Arrowhead. Grounds. Egg cheese rounds at chief. It was a one yard touchdown run by Patrick Mahomes that gives Kansas City is six. Nothing early lead in the first quarter. Harrison Buckner would miss the extra point. And so that is why it is six. Nothing and out. Seven. Nothing we have seen far too many Miss cakes, Field goals, extra points, etcetera. I feel like over the last few days. It was a six minute Dr J that started out Kansas City. I don't think the ball touch the ground, not one time and the offense looks like they've been rested for the last few weeks in Kansas City is often running with a six point advantage over the Browns. Yeah, and to me scoring and being explosive for this offense of fast are for the Chiefs is very important on the other side. Can the Browns establish the run game? Yeah. Offensive line's got to bring their hard hats on our lunch pails to keep this Kansas City Group of front at bay moved the chains keep that explosive Chiefs offense, which the beginning here looks to be the part off the field. In trying lessen the separation between these two teams. Kansas City clearly the better team Brown's a very good football team. What can I do to mitigate the talent? It's on. In city side Well, one thing is that Willis is down for the Browns, which is not a good sign at all. They just went to break so we that we don't know what's happening here. But if Willis is down And hurt. That is not a good sign for the Browns at all. Of course, we will keep you posted as we learn more right now. All I know is he's being evaluated on the ground gave you seen you think Keep me honest. It's all about to tackle Judge Quills. Drink will's that's big. Yes. Will's Junior, actually, hey, was helped up limping off badly after the first Nick Chubb run. It looks like again. I have no further info. Besides, that just will's down, eh? So we were talking earlier about the hires that the NFL has made over the last couple of days. Robert Sala is now New York Jets head coach Urban Meyer's now the Jag's new head coach, and Arthur Smith is now the Atlanta Falcons New head coach and so J. I flipped the question on you hear of those three hires, which is the best given to me one more time. Robert Sala Jets new head coach Urban Meyer, Jacksonville, new head coach Arthur Smith. Atlanta Falcons new head coach. You know everybody wants to say it reminded, but he's never done anything in the NFL. And so I put him towards the bottom of the list. I say salad because he's going to bring in A culture That that is needed. Their New York keep in mind is bad as it was for the Jets, and his baddest case was they were winning towards him. This wasn't a team that had given up They were a bad football team, but they didn't completely embarrass themselves At the end of the season. They fought, so there's some guys who bought believe in buying in that locker room. You got it. You got to overhaul the whole thing there, but they have the capital was especially within the draft to do so. And the draft capital is enough to maybe go get to Shawn Watson. I'm a big believer in solemn what he brings, And I think he can be a guy to flip that thing on its head. So he's number one for me. Ironically, I've got urban last because as much as I respect urban is his I Q is accurate. Never seen him doing a T NFL and it's a whole different ball game and you could be wildly successful in college and may not translate the NFL and it's not lazy analysis. I just haven't seen it from him yet. S o. That will play a huge role in me to believe that he can do it. The other two guys seminar in solid Arthur Smith had been in the league service coordinators and successful ones. Okay, So speaking of here's Urban Meyer, the new Jacksonville head coach, on why he chose the job. How much did the opportunity to have the number one draft pick play into your wanting this job are huge. I think shot and the organization is positioned and it's not by accident shot got very involved in the entire Roster, etcetera, and I think that's Brian. It's prime to put together a good team. I think, Jean we know each other and people who know me that I you know, I am not going to jump into a situation where I don't believe we can win. I'm not. I won't do that. First of all, I have to get a great staff, not a good staff, a great staff, and when people are recommended, I've had a multitude of people calling and my comment is save the recommendation. Unless that you feel that person is the lead in all areas, because that's what Jacksonville deserves, and that's what we're gonna have on our staff. So But the players and put together a team that they want to win. I know that no, no doubt about it. They want to win. Jordan mentioned how he is not ever made a name for himself in the NFL. We've seen him win at multiple schools. At the college level, however. Urban Meyer says he'll figure it out. He's gonna just from college to the pros. I'm older..

"Robert sala is leaving the san francisco forty niners to become the head coach of the new york jets. The jets themselves tweeted out the news last night and adam schefter. The jets have agreed to a five year contract in a tax to the monday morning. Quarterbacks albert breer gm john lynch said quote. Roberts earned this opportunity. He's a very smart tremendously. "Turn it. Hand called his time inside. The ten inside the five touchdown seahawks back. It's up five. Doesn't matter alex collins is gonna punch it in for you anyway. Steve ray will. Kiro with the call outs. Columns ran for eight yards on a yard score. Russell wilson threw two fourth quarter. Touchdown passes the tyler lockett the seahawks rally twenty six twenty three win over the niners They end twelve and four. The seahawks four game winning streak But they are locked in at the number three seed. because of the saints packers winning the seahawks will host the rival rams in the wildcard round next week and mark. How good you feel about the seahawks. After today's game i would. I'm concerned about their offense. It's almost like a flip inverse relation to where they were earlier in the year. Where the offense was we watched it through the air. We had russell wilson pegged as a potential mvp because of how they were allowing him to play and how decay metcalf antilock. We're playing and the defense was all the concern. I mean lock it today. Set a seattle seahawks record for receptions in a season decay metcalf set a franchise record for yardage in a season but a lot of that has to do with the compiled numbers from earlier on this team. At one hundred and nine yards the start of the fourth quarter. They couldn't run the ball and it took a very typical seahawks. Finish the tyler lockett touchdowns and the alex collins dash for a score. I mean they came up late in a game where i would put this a little bit into divisional game against cal shanahan. Who robert sala. Who thought again. It's been weeks in a row. Coaching lights out. I'll made things real tough for seattle seattle things tough for the niners in the opposite way just sort of a typical nfc west beatdown and this niners team. They keep flashing to the box up in the sky where like star players not in the game. I mean they're doing with nobody and seattle. They work themselves out of a funk to some degree. do i trust them

"In the front office. What's the procedure? I mean, are you allowed to kind of poach on players that aren't signed or coaches? How does that work? Players. They're different. There's a mechanism here where you know guys are unrestricted free agents. The restricted free agents and the New league year will start marks the 17th and that you can get those guys if you cut a guy in the interim, there's a cutting season. Right before and especially with the salary cap, you know, maybe going down to 1 75. We think it'll be higher between 1 81 90, But it's that 1 98.2 this year and it may be at the very most optimistic flat if not going down. You may see guys get cut before the traditional cutting season, which is typically right after the combine. When you look at the landscape of the college trap, doubles, and you know that's to move on, and they may do that earlier. If the guy gets caught, he's a street free agent. You can sign him immediately. The other guys have contracts, and it does not trigger until the start of the new league year, which this year's march to 17. Now as far as coaches go The 40. Niners don't have any more games to play after after this one, So Robert Sala last year was getting ready for the Minnesota Vikings right after the last game against Seattle. So you know, I don't know how they're going to do it in the covert world because you could have a zoom meeting. Even you know, with a guy that's got a playoff game coming up on Saturday. Conceivably you could do that. But as far as Robert Sala Donna sooner right after The game is over. Today, he's free to accept a position it would be a promotion. He's a defensive coordinator. Becoming a head coach obviously is a promotion and a huge promotion financially, so the Lions I'm sure they already have reached out to him. We've heard Atlanta and Jacksonville in a few other teams, but informally, the second the gun goes today with the 40 Niners and Seahawks game. He may get his agent may get a call and say we want out of it was solid tomorrow morning and assume call at 10 A.m.. Things happen fast in the NFL this time of year for sure, Greg great stuff as always have a terrific call. We enjoyed our our dialogue throughout the year and go Niners. Hopefully they get a win here and week 17 to be great. Just without question, even though we're not going to the playoffs, love to get this one so great visiting with you, Larry and Dennis all year Dennis threw out of the year in our show, and John See you tomorrow morning. You tomorrow, man. Am looking forward to it already. Yeah, already back. Have a great call Greg. All right. Great Pop on Tim Ryan will be on the call and we're getting ready to hand the reins to them. The inactive list is out for both teams, and they're in the Niner list is just star studded. It's Au Debo, Kim Law. Givens, Greenlaw, Sherman K. Juan Williams, All those guys are out on will not see the field. And for Seattle, Mike Iupati, They're starting left guard is out. Greg Olsen. They're starting tight end is out. They do a four, though they have Hollister and Dis Lian part Kobe Parkinson, the former Stanford star. Carlos Hyde indeedy Dallas her out. So expect to see Chris Carson and Rashad Penny and Alex Collins running the rock. Jonathan Bullard and then Jason Stanley defensive back or out for Seattle. Any of those names which one jumps off the page that you guys as far as impacting the outcome of this one jump off the page, but I think we talked about Alex Boone actually may be suiting up in plan for your body. Yeah, that one didn't have something that is that's that's a crazy one. Yeah, Look, as you said, for the Ford matters. We knew all these guys were gonna play. But this is just a small sampling. But this is pretty much what it is for them to not have I, you cannot have given still have kin. Lot of have devoted. I have Richard Sherman to not have came on Williams again. None of those guys is a surprise. But I think it's typical of the season and we're not even mentioning Bosa and Jimmy and all these other guys that air that air out of out of commission. This is a really talented and deep team and no fans of frustrated But I think if this team gets healthy, they make the right decisions in the off season, which I have confidence they will. They won't be in this position a year from now, but you can't stay healthy. No question. You guys got a final thought on this one. I mean, as before we hand the reins to, uh, to Tim and Greg for the final hour. I just looked at it is you know what? Win the turnover battle. I think it's been 13 consecutive games that whoever has won the turnover battle has won the game. So Let's start right there. It's been a season that has been marred by ugly giveaways, 30 giveaways and the one thing that better didn't do last week. He didn't give it away and give away the game with a bunch of costly turnovers. I think the game plan is today do the same thing. Show patients move on to the next play, Throw it away. Don't just hoist it up late in the middle of the field and hoping something good happens. And I think if they take care of the football, I think they got a chance in this one. And I think they've got a chance to win. Yeah, you know and go out and be competitive. Protect the ball like you said, and build on last week..

"The team and the player to work out a longer term contract and in 22 that that cap will be rising significantly. He should you know there? Yeah, There will be a drop this year or 2021 on the salary cap, but it could bump up fairly dramatically in 2022 so You're not. My impression is that I think it's you know, they think that they have and I well, let's just go with the facts here. I think our eyeballs tell us Mike McGlinchy is one of the best in the game at run blocking. I think our eyeballs also tell us that might be glad she has a lot of improvement to do as a pass protector, and you know, unfortunately for him and the team, you know with his his struggles have been You know, fairly regular, but probably more important they come. It's um, really inopportune times. Yeah. Yeah, I guess against the Eagles against Washington. You know, there's been struggles there, but they also like that, you know, he's he's a smart guy. They like his toughness, and they think that you know he has a willingness to get better and improve. And so they're, you know, they're betting on him to make the necessary adjustments. I think John Lynch is also said That they're gonna look it feel having him as you alluded to earlier gain some weight and kind of figure out what went wrong this year and how to get better. But I think of all of the issues of the 40 Niners have in the off season. You know that. I think they would put Mike McGlinchy pretty far down on that list, so I don't think he's going anywhere. I don't think he's moving to guard. I think he's gonna be the starting right tackle for many years. I do love the Let's move him to guard thing as if you don't need to be able to anchor They're in power through it Guard. You're gonna be going up against heavier guys. Their problem is power power rushers, and let's move him to guard like that would somehow fix the problem. Alas, I think I think we're on the same page that he probably sticks around. You know, Part of that is Hey, who's a better option than Mike McGlinchy of Michael Glenn? She gets the weight back on. If he works through some of the struggles, he was an excellent player for the 40 Niners. In years past, not this year, but again, they think he'd get back to it. There's no reason to think that he can't get back to it and a 13 million when you're comparing it to Trent Williams, who's obviously an elite left tackle in the NFL. He's a free agent this year. He's probably going to get around $20 million. I look at it as the 40 Niners have about four guys. If they have to keep and that they can't possibly replace anywhere else and one of them's trend. Williams, I think Jason Brett has to stick around. I think you got to keep Kay Juan Williams even though they did get some positive play from backups at the slot position and Kyle Juice check because you just can't replied. I don't care how much you cost. You can't replace Kyle Juice Check my missing anybody on that list. No, that That's a pretty good list. I think that Yeah, Those are the guys that you look at the thing that kind of create some complications with this is Robert Sala, right? Because you know, wherever Robert Sala goes, that team is probably going to be in a better situation. As far as in salary cap goes, you also know That those guys that you just mentioned the deepness of guys that the defensive backs and in particular those guys are going to be people that Robert solid would love to have on his team just to be You'll create some sort of continuity as far as guys coming in who know his system who could help the other guys in the defense of backfield? Kind of learn things. So, yeah, I know that Kyle seeing Han and Robert saw both have Very high opinions of K Juan Williams and Jason Moret. So that's something to keep an eye on. And then, of course, you'll Richard Sherman, what happens with him? I just think his time with the 40 Niners, you know, I can't say a bad word about Richard Sherman or what he brought to this team over three years, But I just think with With where the 40 Niners are right now, you know they available money to spend. Lou fits into their system. That would be it in area right there where I think that, you know they can bring back Jason bread. You have Emanuel mostly coming back. You also drafted guy. I think you're gonna have to get younger and more. Maybe more dynamic and that position to be able to contend with guys like DeAndre Hopkins and DK Metcalfe on a year to year basis, So it isn't flipping it back to what you're talking about. McGlinchy, if not McGlinchy, then what do you do? Or you just sent a first round draft pick on a tackle? Know you have another needs and you'll edge of Russia. Cornerback. You know, those are the top ones I would think for this team looking forward to this draft. Speaking of edge rusher Air, Carm said, Look so much better when he's on the inside. Whether he starts the snap lined up on the inside or not. When he's going up against guards. He's dominant, and when he's on the outside, he just hasn't made that much of an impact, at least against the quarterback, some pretty good in the run game. He deserves credit in that regard. It seems as if you know the last couple of weeks. Everybody's been talking. Okay, You gotta get a new outside pass rusher because it's clear that Eric Arms said needs to be on the inside more often than just third down. Do they? You think that that's a high priority and draft. They have enough money to go out and get one in free agency. And what the hell's going on with the Ford? Well, I I think the Fords, you know, certainly his time with the 49 years is gonna be over. They just can't afford to keep him and in the fact that this has been a back issue that started after week one and has lingered this long. I mean, it really makes you wonder about his future in the game of football as well as the center west of Richburg. You know, whenever guys miss an entire year, you have to wonder, but no, I agree. I think that I think getting nicked Bosa back. That's great. That's a huge part of the puzzle for next season, But you also need somebody on the other side. And, you know part of why Derek Armstead was so good last year was because of the guys around him, has not taking anything away from arm said he still had to make those plays. But Yeah, He had a very good season. But, you know, it's it's a team sport. And when you have the Ford and Nick Bosa, um you know, affecting the edges like they could when you have the forced Buckner lining up next to you, Um you know, you're gonna have more opportunities to make plays one on one. So I still think. Yeah, I I agree. I think as Russia is a huge priority. This offseason because You know, I mean, Carrie Haider did a really nice job. But if Carrie Hiders your number one sack guy, you know it tells you something right here, and I'm not again. I'm not say anything. He's gonna He's gonna get paid. Good for Kerry. Haider. Yeah, he made he made some money this season, but T o You just need you need more guys. You know, Defensive line is a position where you just can't go wrong by taking the best defensive lineman with your first pick every year because I really think I mean, based on what I saw last year I mean, I always thought that the quickest way for a turnaround was to get a quarterback..

"Obviously unbelievable. How Russell Wilson did step up because the pressure is coming. It is coming hot. And he just lets it get by him, takes his couple steps up and unload it. Man coverage. Okay, and Robert Sala is dialing up blitzes almost every play and they're trying to run those quick little rub routes have got to have that coverage tight and anticipate those picks us up. Armstead Buckner, Thomas Greenlaw showing a gap pressure right around the side. Hollister goes in motion watch by Ward. And now we have a stopwatch. A player to time out called by Pete Carroll. So that signed the 40 Niners showed man is they were following motion man. So Carol calls the time out now with 46 seconds to go clock already stopped because of the incomplete, Hollister. Dr Kyle Shanahan. You have to think the worst if they do score a touchdown here. Make it 27 26 they would go for to try to make a 29 26. You've got to give yourself time to come back and either beat them or tied them with a field goal. 46 seconds to go, She analyst one time out remaining 40. Niners have to left third tent on the 12. They get a first down inside the two yard line. I don't know if there's enough while they got timeouts and said I got one left. He's gotta have two great down here on. I would not be shocked if they try to scheme up Kate Metcalf on some type of Fae drought on Emanuel Bozo. Totally. They haven't shown him. They going three by one a lot. Why won't NFL teams hire minority coaches?

"Three head. Coaching spots have been filled this week. But none of those. Three coaches were minorities while the Rooney rule has been followed. Some are beginning to believe that minority forty candidates are not being taken seriously for the open jobs and anonymous African American. NFL Assistant Coach said that the League has quote finally shown. It's not the place as for black men to advance. It's ridiculous it's disgusting. We can sell tickets and make plays but we can't lead Shannon. Why isn't the Rooney rule role working? Well I think until skip this diversity thing yeah. Diversity is a great great to talk about but until you get someone the leadership position that says you know what. I don't just want to talk about it. I want to be about it so until you get older ships that actually wants to put some substance to this and this is what that you're GonNa get now if the general manager there's one general manager that's what minority and that's CR- Chris greer in Miami. There's zero owners that are it shouldn't say minorities. I guess because shot con radically a minority. But when you get the gist of what I what. I'm trying to say until leadership gets more diverse. You're I'm not gonNA have a more diverse hiring background skills. This was puzzling to be. Is that Eric. Enemy has the exact Zac job that Matt Nagy had negative and call plays any recall. Please man they can get the job. Doug Peterson sedinko plays true. Recall to play around Rivera's on but Ron Rivera was not the defensive coordinator in Philly. He he became a D. coordinator what's he got to the D. Coordinator in Chicago. You are you in San Diego. Yeah but he got his getting these enter coaching tree. Eric B enemy has the exact same job. That Matt Nagy Doug Peterson has and he's not getting opportunity is spirit but this. I don't really think that they go into it. Unless you incentivize this. Okay if you how minorities kill we maybe you have an extra three to five five dollars and cap space. That's the only thing that resonates with these owners because I get it skipped if I spent three billion. Let's just say I spent three billion dollars for a restaurant run. You Go tell me what the hell I need to cook. Cook whatever I WanNa Cook it there. And that's how they look at it. Jerry Jones spent money for this. This this mind you oh tell me why should get killed but but this notion that Oh and they brought Muhiba Marvin Marvin Lewis. He brought him in to to do that. Situation wasted the same with the giants the giants they had irebi enemy. They what Joe Judge Chris Rashard Rashard. Excuse me Chris Restoring. Yeah so now. Now we're down to one. Vacant Cleveland Reunion. I'm talking about how good already know. Angle get no frills JAYCO network skill. He already interviewed there. So you would now now the take my name off the leader and solid rubber solid. Take my name off the list. Because he's GonNa get Mad Max two and a half years if you're lucky that seems to instead that's all Jimmy can stomach now if you look at it they keep these. You look at Mike Patton. You look at all the guys they've had and these guys have had I think. Hugh Jackson stayed the longest at two and a half years. But everybody's been two years the list huge only two and a half two and a half long but you get you get these other guys you get pretty kitchens and you look at patent and you look at a I forget. Just give all these one year jazz. WE ACHE AAC CLEVELAND. That in Cleveland of the North this skill ruining rules a joke. I get it. You know minorities Cadillac. An affirmative action thanksgiving. Yeah but in -firmative action. I guess it's federal dollars. You'RE NOT GONNA get the money if you don't do this. The NFL is a is a private entity. So what can you do. What Ki- what can you give? Nfl Do not the so. I have been tracking this for a long time because one of my best friends is John. Wooten who is now the retired leader of the Fritz Pollard. Alliance and he was the driving force behind instituting the Rooney rule as I hiring practice in the national shirow all league and John's point from the start was I just need interviews because if a young assistant coach gets interviewed a couple of times times it gets reported in his name gets out there and if another owner sees that name enough over maybe a couple of years hiring cycles else maybe an owner says chee that guy. He's getting a lot of interviews. Maybe I should bring in. Maybe I should be more open minded to him. But if you're GONNA curse because if I get a a lot of interviews and I'm not getting hired was wrong why here the me getting hired cave liability with that. But John's point in the end was I'd rather have interviews than not have interests. Okay okay so let's go back to the stat that I use last week. The Institute of Diversity and Ethics In sports twenty nine thousand nine racial and gender report card for the National Football Bali. The League got actually an a plus for hiring of color. Assistant coaches right a sit a plot. Oh that's progress right. It got a deep loss for hiring head coach of Color White eight-plus assistance d-plus head head coaches. There's a big disconnect there and it shows you. That owners are fine. Oh hire two or three black assistant fine with that but nope nope. I don't want to head coach to be black. Right gives quite to the restaurant you can cook. You'll be in the bank but Michelle not the bridge. I roll up now okay so when I texted back and forth last we can use this last week of John Wooten just beside himself now. He is devastated by this this development his point was that only one. GM Chris Grin Miami. Point out is use. John's word heartbreaking because it could start with the GM right a black GM of or of color could be more open minded to say to the owner. Hey listen this guy is really bring him in. Let me let me introduce him to you right. The conduit to the owner can be stronger. Iran have I don't know six or eight black. GM right right. We've had them around the league four or but all of a sudden there's a dearth to rape Barma with Barma within Cleveland. He'd Gone Rick Smith who I know very well be in Denver. He interviewed for The Washington. Ashington John Daniel Snyder said head coach could be a head coach. Basically general manager after the Washington like who are the head coaching after the draft. The General Mattis. Okay so sometimes there is group think or shink sheep among the owners because in the end they do want to win right. And if they're looking around the League league and that black head coaches really successful they say well I want one of those. I want to go that direction right well. There was one black head coach who started to have success late in the year ear and he happened to be allied with Chris. Clear in Miami and Brian Floors off the Patriots. Well they started out all time badge for about what seven seven games fifty. Nine seven opening renders and then they basically it felt like they turned the whole roster iside down which they needed to do and then all of a sudden the last nine games they go five and four they upset the eagles and then they went to foxborough and just basically ended the season. I thought for the new New England Patriots playoff teams right. Okay so all the sudden Brian floor floor with the help of Chris greer. They're having big success. It looks like it's headed in the right drug us us but it wasn't enough of a splash to create momentum through the hiring process and right because John Wooden again texted me back with so many names he said we have so many in the pipeline. Who already started with Eric? B Enemy and Chris Rock. I think Chris Shaw Bad Year on defense but when I watch him interviewed when I watch his body language. It's a stunt man he's he's got. CEO Written all over him. He looks like a commanding officer to me. There's not enough black head coaches skip. Because because you look you look at Mike McCarthy guest job he hires the guy that gave him his opportunity coordinator fifteen years ago so you see the circle. We'll skip once you become a head coach. What do you do you go to the combine? You go to say elbow you got your drake. He goes to the coaches meeting and Yada Yada Yada and to connect with the boom boom boom right right. So if I'm not in that Lou. How do I get into loops? Because a rid of staff they said eighty percent of the jobs are never posted so in other worth people get hired somebody a friend or family member is not what you know who you know There in live the roof. It does house so to finish John. Bruton's list of pipeline candidates being AMEE. Chris Rashard Robert Sala. He threw Jim Caldwell on his list. Is Jim Colwell was highly successful zestful. Jim called wheel lost his jaw. Going nine and seven in two years Matt Patricia has nine total win and he's still got a job now he goldwell still doesn't have another job he in four years. He went to the playoffs twice in the last year he went nine and seven and they said well you know we need to move in a different direction. uh-huh and the guy that's replaced has yet to win nine total games in two years. Do you still own a still on the clock. Okay Steve wilks got one shot in time. I'm one year in Arizona and he was gone. He's now the defensive coordinator in Cleveland which probably didn't help his cause this year that much but I don't hear his name no in Cleveland right right on the list. And then there's Terrel Austin who's young stripes potential star coach and John Wootton into his list with Marvin Lewis who he thinks deserves a second shy right. Okay so Jerry. Jones did observe in qualified for the Rooney rule by bringing in. I Marvin Lewis. I think Jerry was shrewd operating waiting there. Because he didn't pick a young like like Chris Rashard type interview him because of Jerry had interviewed a young potential upcoming head. Black coach right. There's more pressure on Jerry. What was wrong with right? What's the problem exactly? He went to Marvin Lewis because he thinks Marvin Lewis is kind of old news right right. He got his longtime time shot in Cincinnati. Listen I still think Marvin did a good job job seriously. Yes okay he went. Oh and seven in the playoffs but still it was Andy Dalton Alton you re you with covering the NFL and you remember what Cincinnati before. Marlene got there was John. Carter number one overall. You Got David Cleland with the fourth. The fourth picket. You got big day to day and Wilkerson purse around the second pick in the draft year after year after a year people. Forget what I know. Marvin didn't win a playoff game. But they weren't even getting close to the playoffs for Marvin got there. No so I was disappointed in Jerry because you know my heart Hartz. I'd love to see Jerry Jones higher black head coach and I think I probably won't live long enough or Jerry will live long enough to know.

"We'll have you know, Bob has the seat closest to the door. Exactly. Exactly. I I'm not climbing over rod without ropes. I'm not risking that at this juncture my career. So someone is asking Mike for the Robert Sala soundbite because slavery was pimping it as this is who the Niners are going to draft. Just to summarize. Or are you gonna play it? It's a Friday. I know Mike was still working, right? Robert Sala was talking about his impressions of. Here's the Niners D coordinator, who's flashed out here to you. That'd be staying obvious. You know, the our our dealings pretty good sweats kind of stood out he's helping self out. So a lot of guys, you know, a lot of guys who have had the courage come out here and play this football game. A majority of these players have actually helped themselves and really help their draft stock. He's talking about Montas sweat who didn't flash or show anybody that he had played football recently run? Who's a Nick bozo? He did not participate in Ohio state's pro day a couple of days ago. I wonder why that is maybe he had something to do you even participate as junior year either after he got injured? So I'm telling you you're going to be hot if they take that's gonna be the tension when the velvet hammer comes up to the. To the podium for the second pick. Hopefully is I have a trade to announce that's the that's the first thing. I want to hear Goodell say on the Niners around the clock the Niners keep their number two pick. I might have to be a part of this year's draft. Coverage just to see your help take take Bosa if they take both sides. Now, you're going to be like six seconds later. No, I'm not leave you alone. Now. You are. Tablet. That's real love. That's why I waited for the LSU Texas stadium game this year. Was that I was at a birthday party. And I'm like is this really going to the seventh overtime. I said, but I'm like let LSU win this game. I come on. L? Let's you win. This Virginia has gotten the message. Hey, rough Samson. They are stretching out there lead on Gardner Webb fifty to forty one with about eleven and change. What are the Gardner Webb that game? I think they're the BULLDOGS I could find out. Exactly. All right. Pretty sure that the BULLDOGS boom BULLDOGS, here's the bigger question, whereas Gardner Webb. I have no idea. That somewhere probably somewhere near Gardner said like in the northeast part of the country is one of the Carolinas. Sure sounds good to be Tennessee, coal gates. According to my computer screen here tied up fifty to fifty to ten minutes left to go. Is it it is it Donald foil playing for Colgate? Toothpaste maker. That's. It's. Boiling springs. That's that's what's the what's the one Appalachian state is in Boone North Carolina. I found that out when they upset Michigan. I never knew where app state was making a lot of the great things that go on our phones and ipads app state. Gee. I was thinking like things that go in the phone. Montas sweat is stood out. According to Robert Sala and Bonte sweat is similar to Josh Allen. Let's see. He's long mean athletic and played in the SEC at a high level. I'm noticing a trend between Quinton Williams. Josh Allen Montas swept to pass rushers ones on the middle. But those are guys that you could probably do make sure I get this straight here. What you're saying to me is that defensive lineman. Whether we are talking interior linemen or. Edge lineman. You telling me that in the SEC those guys those guys are pretty phenomenal. I don't believe you guys. Are you know, now, I'm not talking if you played at Vanderbilt. Talking if there are limits to this theory. Bama LSU Georgia, Mississippi State, you know, and this year, and I really I watched him three different times. I may or may not have had money on these games Kentucky's defense was legit. Their offense was galactically horrific but defensively Kentucky this year led by Josh Allen. He he was thirty one tackles for loss and seventeen sacks. That guy was pretty amazing to me, and you're going up against linemen that are going to be playing in the NFL NFL caliber, and you are tackling behind the line of scrimmage some of the best athletes in the country. Yeah. So that's just one of those things we're getting close to the end of March rod this we are. And what I want to congratulate everybody of getting through spring training like we've all done done. Well, got on working you are aware of the ides of March, and you did not allow that to affect you anyway shape before got through spring training or almost getting ready to games. Account. But we're also getting near the end of March of qualifying people midday giants double play giveaway..

"And that's going to be the evolution of Robert Sala not gonna spend a ton of time here because we've talked about it on previous weeks on the show. But I do think it's important to note that he he has made changes to his scheme that I think are good changes and changes. He doesn't get enough credit for Robert Sala gets a ton of flack for being effectively schematically net. And while he does do some things that are still frustrating. Like a lot of kind of incessant spot dropping it's tough to evaluate him when he's operating with incredibly deficient talent. And we've talked about that at length here on this show. But when you look at his split safety coverage before the by after the bye, it shows that he is really really changing his upper at least trying to before the by. He had three hundred thirty seven pass naps. He had sixty open coverage looks split safety looks. That's eighteen percent. After the bye. He had fifty seven split safety looks at one hundred and eighty four plate. That's thirty one percent. He just about doubled his split safety looks when he came out of the by that kind of dramatic turnaround. I think just shows that he's not just a single high guy who's going to do one thing over and over and over again, and oh my God his scheme sucks he is indeed trying to tinker with the defense is trying new things and the defense played much better at the end of coming out of the by at the end of the year. And I think maybe part of that was due to personnel who the hell knows Harris an XM there at safeties that you've got to try some new things. So I think is player delineation also improved a bit Solomon Thomas played more on the inside. After the bye Earl Mitchell stop playing finally her. The Earl Mitchell experiment is over. And so I think that all of those things are good. And I think those speak to why he is getting another year in San Francisco, and I think honestly deservedly so I don't think he's a bad defensive coordinator. Or at least I think there is enough there that I'd like to see him with a better set of ten with more talent. Exactly. And I think there were I remember on an earlier episode in the season. Somewhere in the first half of the season. One of the things when when I came on that we talked about was whether he would make adjustments or whether he wasn't doing certain things from a coverage standpoint because he didn't feel like he had the players who could execute them or because he simply wasn't making. He was doing a bad job making adjustments right in and kind of which of those it was I think over the second half the season, especially after the bye, we did see more of those judgments, you know, you mentioned some more of the too high safety looks I think they did some different things showed some different things adjustments to their base like cover three to kind of counteract some of the more common route concepts that they see made some adjustments there. So those kind of things that we saw the end of the season does give me a little bit of hope that that if they can get the personnel right on that side of the ball that he's going to have answers because that's the thing that you worry about we were talking about this a little bit before the show, and we won't get into it a ton now. But really what you want from defensive coordinator. Is it doesn't really matter? How you get there so much as do you have answers for what the offense is going to throw at you. Right. There may be multiple ways that you can answer that question. But you need to have those answers available to you it points before it looked like Robert solemn might not right. But it was hard to evaluate that. Because you're like, well, their talent is awful. And so is this really him? Or is it other factors toward the end of the season as he started to try and make some of those changes. I think there was enough there that makes you optimistic that again personnel can get right that he can be a quality defensive coordinator. Now player development is silicon Sern the forty Niners have not been getting production from a lot of their young players on defense..
