"Still don't know the availability of two a ton of Iowa or Lamar Jackson. Here is Mike mcdaniel that often head coach on his quarterback. As far as two it goes as he reached the point yet where he can do non contact practice stuff such as throwing as he been cleared for that level yet. So has now been cleared for that level yet. I'm hoping to, with all three active roster quarterbacks, they all have injury related concerns. I'm hoping to have some clarity on Wednesday. But as of right now, it's literally the same, if not more vague than when I just saw you guys last time. You still charismatic. Did you want to just jump through a wall for this guy? He's just really gets you pumped up. Wow. And then the binary coefficient of the analysis of the subscript, let's go to seat, no Connor doing his Mike mcdaniel impersonation. I mean, I'm really a lot more fun than that, but right now we're just focusing on how many coaches look like they would be fun to go out with. Based off of their press conference personality. Kingsbury spillover will be good if you know what I mean. What do you mean? Just checking. Yeah. Dan Campbell seems like he would be fun. I'd go to the bar with him. Yes, I would. Yeah. He'd be like, oh, let's get some shots. Yeah. All right, dude. Let's go. Does Mike McCarthy seem like he'd be a ball of fun? No, no. Does John Harbaugh seem like he'd be a lot of fun? Bill Belichick. How about Pete Carroll? Pete Carroll, I think would be. Is he the oldest coach? Yeah, I think so. And probably he would be higher on my list of most fun. Yeah, I think that he would be, you know, as long as he's not chewing his gum there, but if we're just sitting there having a beer, but man, does he go through gum? Does he have a gum sponsor? Chips like that? I don't know. I bet he just crushes it. Yeah, yes. I think Doug Peterson of Robert sala, maybe there's a couple of guys that can hang with. They seem like who gets the receipt from the bill with Robert sala. He's going to want receipts. Can I get a receipt there? See what I did with that? That was good. He might be a little too intense.

"Them down and bring in his personal quarterbacks coach John back, right? And then what's happened this year? So if you're one of these players that has so much on the line next, whether it's your own individual goals, financially, as a player, all that stuff, or you're talking about team goals, like how are you going to buy into Zach Wilson next year? I just don't know how you can. So I don't know how Robert sala could sell Zach Wilson to that locker room. So I think at the very least they're bringing in competition. Obviously that staff has a lot of background with Jimmy Garoppolo. I think he's one that logically makes some sense. And then I'll be other options out there too. Guys like Derek Carr, who will be out there on the market. And then as for the dolphins, this is fascinating because now that they spent so much last year trying to get an answer on tua, like the owner wanted an answer on where tua is because they're going to have to make big decisions on him after this year on the 5th year option and extending him and all the rest of it. Well, that's why they went and got a left tackle. That's why they went and got tyreek hill. That's why they went and hired Mike mcdaniel. And now it looks like the information we have is complete on tua. Let me ask you this, Dan, would you exercise to a 5th year option at maybe 25 or $30 million, pull a guarantee for 2024 right now? I'd have to know more about, did you have two or three concussions? Right. Like moving forward, I might do a one year look see, but I don't want to sign up long-term for that. But if you have that like $25 million number, you're talking about and you decline that option, right? Which, again, locks them in, not for next year, but for the year after. So you're locking them in for two years. If you're not going to pick that, I wouldn't. If you're not going to pick that option up, okay? Now you're in a year to year proposition. Yeah. Let me ask you this. Who would you out rather having a year to year proposition? To our Tom Brady. I would rather, I'd rather have Tom Brady on that dolphins team. For one year. And that's the thing.

"I used to be a fan of the falcons, right? But I got off that narcotic. And of course, you're asking the most obvious question in the world. If you got off of that narcotic, why you trying to start smoking jets, right? Like that is that is a premo question to break up. And that right there is why I'm trying to ask. Can a root footage yet? All right, a couple things, right? When I would go into the TV studio for ESPN more, like when I would go up there. Most of the guys on crew were jets fans. And I like them, right? They never had anything to be happy about. You know what I'm saying? But I like those people, right? Like as I made jazz fans and giants fans, I feel better. I feel like about jets fans, I did. And then I've been watching this team, you know? Like objectively speaking, there are rude able bunch. They play hard, they've had all these injuries, but they still find a way to keep this thing going, their defense go hard, they got my man quinnen. White Mike out there figuring it out, getting it done. You know what I mean? Like they still need a quarterback and all of that Garrett Wilson beast beast I tell you beast. He tried to make Patrick Peterson retire at least move to safety. But beast, like, I really found myself hoping that the jets would win. And I was part of that about Kirk Cousins on the other side of the world and never know. But I have found that as more happens with the jets. Oh, Robert sala, because Robert sala, I was talking to my man Charlie Kravitz about this. And he said to Robert solo pulls this off very well, where he's clearly a tough guy and clearly has a tough team, but he's not a try hard, which by the way is how you know Robert solic can fight.

"Do you say is these are all the things that colt McCoy does that maybe, Kyler Murray doesn't do. And if you're watching colt McCoy, he's a veteran. He knows how to take care of the football. He's not going to try to do too much. Receivers love playing with a quarterback that they know where he's going to be. Instead of Kyler is going to scramble around. And you could make these comments applicable to what's going on with the jets with Zach Wilson. But it felt like Larry Fitzgerald was letting you behind the curtain to say there's some leadership issues here. Colt McCoy gives you those leadership, he fills in that void that you have here. Yes, can you compliment colt McCoy without it seeming like an insult to Kyler Murray? It felt like it was thinly veiled there that I'm going to tell you what colt McCoy does that Kyler Murray doesn't do. might not be I might be reading more into it and not being fair to Kyler Murray, but Larry Fitzgerald never retired officially, why didn't he come back for one more year? Sabbatical. But I just thought it was interesting what we were seeing and hearing that it felt like Larry can compliment colt McCoy, but he's really being critical of Kyler Murray. And it's not all on Kyler Murray, but in the NFL, it starts with the quarterback and the coach. And I think that they've got troubles down the road with both of those positions because you're talking about maturity. You're talking about leadership. You're talking about ownership. You're talking about commitment. All the things that you have to do. Nobody's ever said anything like that about Patrick Mahomes. They don't go, you know, he's not that committed. You know what he doesn't take ownership. I don't know if he's a leader. Patrick Mahomes have that much morbidity than Kyler Murray? I don't know. But he knows what he's supposed to do. How to be a leader. Zach Wilson, Zach Wilson, Wilson acted like a spoiled kid. Like, nope, I'm not gonna, you know, I don't apologize to the defense. That's a terrible answer. Terrible. And now, here's the jets head coach on who is starter is this weekend. Start off by just dating with your quarterback plans are for this week and explain why. I've just been dealing with so many different things right now. I'm going to get to the tape and just evaluate everything and I'll leave it at that. We're keeping everything on the table over the next couple of days. So you're not committing to Zach as your starter for Sunday. Not right now, not until I'm done evaluating everything. Righty. That's Robert sala. Taken receipts with his own quarterback. Then he was asked this question. If you worry about him losing the faith and belief of the locker room?

I mean, all four of them are going. Listen, Dan, my best is going to be the period of the NFL right now. I mean, you got New York teams winning and then nobody gives Tampa Bay and Carolina, a chance against Tampa Bay. And they go in and clean that clocks. I mean, I'm like my goodness. Then I'm listening to Robert sala, the culture of Jack talk in all honesty. He talks like I want to hear what he has to say opposed to what I want to hear. You know what I mean? Say what you want to hear and there's certain cultures say what you really are truly need to know. I guess the biggest things though is, is there a way anyway for Detroit to come back up? I know this because I honestly believe they got a curse on them. They're one in 5. And I wonder if they're going to let Dan Campbell hold on here. And it's not just Jared Goff, it's, you know, it's going to take time. I thought they'd be on the cusp of being a playoff team. You know, they play hard. They'll play hard for him, but that'll only get you so far. They got one win right now. 60 three games in the NFL have been decided by 8 points or less. How do you how do you change things? How do you figure it out? The jets are coming in this week. They're the hottest team as far as narrative goes. A win with either Russ or Brett rippin or whoever would go a long way and stopping the bleeding, especially in the front of that home crowd. If you lose that game in front of that home crowd, well then when I say sharks are in the water, it's going to get real ugly, real fast. So your guests have included Robert sala and Paul Rudd, who else is on the wish list there for your podcast. You know what? I want to do like coaches that don't talk during the season. I want to get them to be candid sallow was. I want to get like funny, but good to let you hear the best with the celebrities. When you have Sandler, and I'm like, I'll run through a TV or whatever, and you've got all those guys. Rudd is that dude. But I also want to get like young coaches that the teams are usually a little protective of. I want to get young offensive coordinators, young defensive coordinators, young executives. And my pitch to them is this is a great platform to not talk about this week's game and injuries, but to introduce themselves to the audience. It was good while it lasted. You know, first of all, I really don't appreciate your revelation. The misfortune of my New York mets. Very, very, very unprofessional of these days. But if you won, I would be celebrating you today, Barry. If they won, you wouldn't have picked up on me. I would have taken a little bit longer to pick up on your phone call. Okay. Yeah. Anyway, obviously, the worst of the weekend, I talked to smack. I got to face the music that came up small when it was most important. However, that's the weekend. My Jay. Yes. Jeff. Another win. Yeah, congratulations there, Barry. Robert sala, the jets head coach on his quarterbacks play. I thought he was good, you know? Again, we didn't turn the ball over. I thought he made big throws when he needed to make them. I thought our run game really picked up, especially in the second quarter around there. So, but I thought he did exactly what he needed to do to win a football game. Yeah, they ran the football and they did, you know, no turnovers. That's all? But remember when Robert sala was taken receipts, you know, he's like, I'm remembering what everybody's talking about. Well, you're three and two. Congratulations. Done well. But be humble through this. You know? Take receipts. That's okay. But be humble through it. Now be proud? But you gotta be honest, the Jets have been horrible. While you're taking your receipts, yes. He can't act like he's been there before. No, he's. Well, as a defensive coordinator for the niners, he can. But as a jet. No, he can not. But the jets and giants, I mean, I'm more surprised with the jets. They have talent, but they're still the jets. The Giants I have no idea how they're doing it. No idea. Turn that game off. And then I came back and I went, wait, the Giants beat the packers? Huh? One more item as we close out our one and what an hour it was, we all have different ideas about success. "Mean, I can see as a dolphin fan how you're not fine with it because we do need to see two in action. Any action he can get going into the season, I live against another opponent. I think would bode well for him. Yeah. And the choice not to have him play, remember, there's only three preseason games. So I think he should get a series. The first one, he should play a half, the second one, and then maybe if you need to figure out the roster for the third one, then have him sit out that one, but the first one he should have definitely be out there playing. Not just that's my opinion. If you're going to rest him, I would say rest him in the third preseason game before the opener. No, I'm with you. Yeah, and that's the thing to keep in mind, only three presets in games for everybody who wasn't in the Hall of Fame game, right? Like the Jags and raiders. But yeah, you get condensed reps, and so I think it would make sense. It's not like he's a finished product by any means. And then you get the other side of this because you get the other end of the coin where last night, Zach Wilson of the jets, he got hurt, he had a non contact right knee injury. And man, when it's ever non contact like that, you're bracing for the worst. And this was, go ahead, what are you gonna say? I was gonna say, you're right and with that, you can't blame that on the game because that was going to happen in practice the next time you were out on the practice field or whenever they were on the field again. They didn't have anything to do with the game. Now if you would have got hit and been back and someone would have fell over the top, then that's a game injury type of situation. What happened to him was going to happen the next time they're in team the period or 7 O 7 or whatever that was. Yeah, so this was actually after the game last night. This was the jets head coach. Robert sala, little slip of the tongue. Listen to this. Until they dig, they won't know. Does he know what I mean? Yeah, that part is supposed to be intact. So but again, guys, this is wait until

"The jets are a team that is in year two of a rebuild. But here's the thing. This is the rebuild after the first rebuild went horribly wrong. And so you're in this sort of perpetual rebuild and you're in a year where all the fans think the rebuild finally materializes because they've been rebuilding for so long, but the truth is plot twist season one ends. If the jets are a TV series and all you find out is like there's more rebuilding, you know? So I don't think that there's any other way to look at this. And if you pay attention to what Robert sala says during his press conferences, he's basically like talking to the owners and just being like, hey, we're very young and we need a lot more time here. So when people start freaking out when we're two and 7, you need to calm the hell down because you're gonna go hire Mike mcadam and we're gonna sign Le'Veon bell again and that's just not gonna work for anybody. So let's stop thinking that way. Oh man, my metaphor, did you watch How I Met Your Mother? Yeah, kind of, right? Yeah. But it's that show where it's like, yeah, they have like two seasons, and then it was supposed to be like, okay, here's your closure. It's over. We're done with this. But instead it went on for like four more seasons, and it wasn't funny at all. And it's just kind of like, that's sort of where the jets are right now. It's not funny anymore. Let's just be good. Was the mother wasn't any of the female characters on the show, right? No. It was, yeah. You know how every show should end. Was it Dallas where the guy from step by step, the dad from step by step? He just wakes up and it's a dream. Duffy, right? Doesn't he just wake up and it's a dream? Yep. Oh my God. Like that is how who is going to be the next big content producer out there with the internal fortitude to just pull another Dallas. Final season of Ozarks, ruthie just wakes up and was like, what a crazy dream, you know? And then like none of it's real. And then we just wasted all this time. It is the perfect, perfect way to end a television series. It's so perfect. It is, but you need the next version of that. You can't just do the thing that Dallas did. Of course you can. Because nobody, no kids. Well, I don't know what our demo is. I'd be really horrified to find out. We're ages 8 to 88. But yeah, I mean, I think we're ready for another shot at this. Because you probably get one of those every you get a chance for one of those every few years, right? You get a chance to pull ending, you know, there's only so many different sort of like Shakespearean boxes you can put everything in it too, you know? So I think we're ripe for another one of those, you know? I'm skeptical. But I'll watch it when it comes out. Send us your best Dallas ticks and leave a rating and review. "It's fantastic. I don't care what color it is at all. Anyway, I've been thinking a lot about New York recently. Both the jets and the Giants and I had a fun question popping in my head. The first thing I started with was which team would be better to be a fan of. Like, would you rather, that's a fun game? Would you rather, would you rather be a Jets fan? Or a Giants fan? Which is worse, maybe, which is better also they're both like really not great. I wouldn't want to be a fan of either. And 1000% the Giants have had more good moments recently too super bowls, they beat the Patriots. They knocked off the undefeated 18 O patriots in the Super Bowl, taking that Super Bowl from Tom Brady. That's by the way, Boston versus New York in that game. I forgot about that a lot. It's really interesting. I forgot about that. The fact that it was like the equivalent of football's version of Yankees versus Red Sox. And anyway, the question really is not just which team would you rather be a fan of, but the jets are the Giants, which team right now has a better future. The Jets have a coach, rookie head coach, Robert sala, general manager, general manager, Joe Douglas, and rookie quarterback, Zach Wilson. Joe Douglas has shown himself to be a smart general manager. I like him. I like the moves he makes. Now, both Zach Wilson and Robert sala are unproven. But I believe in both of them. I think Zack Wilson's got crazy potential. He's early. He's young. People are way too harsh with rookie quarterbacks. Give the guy some time. Clearly you can see, go watch Zach Wilson every week. Does he make mistakes? Of course he does. Does he also make a couple of plays every game where you're like, geez, and this kid can figure it out. He is, he'll make a throw where he's like running to his right, escaping a sack, launching it deep downfield for like a 35 yard gain into a tiny window and you're like, oh, imagine if this guy played for the packers or had a good football team around him. Zach Wilson is clearly really, really talented. He needs time. Robert sala, I love him. Great leader, clearly like a good dude as players love him. I got some friends who played for.

Which by the way the jets have tied now the if the jets miss the playoffs this year will be ten straight and you know the. The giants are added playoffs every year since two thousand sixteen so seventeen eighteen nineteen twenty twenty one now. This will be the fifth consecutive year. The giants have missed the playoffs. Just nothing but incompetence from these two teams but like i said the jets lost today for the denver broncos. Twenty six nothing. that's right. I said twenty six nothing and no adam. Gays did not come back to coach the team. The last couple of weeks adam. Gays did not have the reins of of the offense that we so rightfully so criticized during his tenure. Here new york the jets have so far. You know if you look less year just were owing three like i said through those three games. They were outscored. Ninety four to thirty seven terrible absolutely terrible will this year. They've been outscored. Seventy two twenty so somehow even though the jets offense was terrible as year through three games. They've actually managed to score seventeen less points than they did last year. Incredible it doesn't it doesn't make sense. It boggles the mind. How bad the jets have been Through these first couple games you know offensively really the only time. They looked like competent. Offense was in the second half of the first game against carolina the entire game against the patriots. Patriots are really good defensive teams so i not gonna kill them for it but the entire game against the patriots. They look bed. You know you had zach going out there. Throwing four interceptions look terrible. this week. He goes there to get shutout. Jose mustard last week was two field goals. They mustard nothing today. They had a chance to make ten to three early on and hit a fifty six yard field. Goal which kicker rookie kicker matt amendola did hit. He drilled a fifty six yard or right down the middle but then they had a five yard penalty for delay of game which was ridiculous and they deserved it though. It wasn't a bad call by the officials. Were just ridiculous that the holder couldn't get the the stat down the ball. Dannon time absolutely ridiculous. The jets ended up blowing that that cost themselves five yards. It went to a from a fifty six yard field goal to a sixty one yard field goal. You know. I understand robert sala not wanting to get crazy especially if you watch football like i did. You saw the game earlier in the day where You know a hundred and nine yard Was one hundred. Nine yard. Touchdown was brought back by the jacksonville special teams player..

"So the start of that season in september. That you just referenced. Rich it's going to be september twelfth. Two thousand and twenty one. That means that robert sala will most likely officially began his career as the first muslim head coach in. Nfl history the day after the twentieth anniversary of nine eleven. How significant do you think that is for. Robert solid very significant on many levels. And i know robert talked about the meaning of it in his introductory press conference. It's humbling and You know especially back home Where i'm from dearborn michigan. So there's a lot of pride and so it is a very humbling experience and you know when you look at a An end for organizations and you look at the locker room and and it's like the ultimate melting pot of different people in different races and different Stories that get together with one goal and so out to be a part of that as as special reg after thirty two years of service covering this team. Thank you for helping the city of new york. Look forward to number thirty three. Who was my pleasure. Thanks for having me on. I'm pablo toray and this has been. Espn daily. "Think there's a case i do think there's a case i'm not saying it's a good one a big one by think that urban meyer has a chance to surprise everybody with his games and then i would also say that was. That was the other one. I was gonna say if it's not david kelly. What's the ceiling of this coach. Urban meyer i'm just i one of the most successful college coaches in history. There's a there's a case you made that. Yeah he's got some good place. I'm not. I bet. More on. Arthur smith but i always say that all three of those guys aren't gonna win enough to be actually be top ten. I'm just saying in that discussion. Are the jets. Grab a wildcard. Is robert sala for like the guy who could be on the statistics here. Yes i mean if the jets grab a wildcard. I think that they're going to is going to be candidate candidate. Heroes parade kevin. You brought up a good name in terms of brain and staley. She is by far the highest. Like new guy that i have ranked on here based on what i have seen and what i've heard from him in the past and my belief that he still going to even though he's on the defensive side of the ball allow his offense to be a little bit more free being that he was a former quarterback and understands that position a little bit. So i mean i think that he has the potential to be there and discussed like the defense mine. Too guys we've talked about. Who at least for me on my list. Was you know brian. florez and or sean mcdermott. Like these defense guys who let their offenses be a little bit more creative. So i'm excited to see it I i will say there's like just a really good crop of of head coaches in this top twelve thirteen that it is going to be a little bit difficult to crack it. But i'm looking forward to seeing what he can do without team. I would also we keep doing this on these list. Just enter titans corner in minutes. Seventy five Because we didn't mention my brave. All straight playoff berths including an se title run in two thousand nineteen and if he continues to win he's definitely in this conversation next year. All right guys.

"So you go from there to think and well then, obviously to Shana Watson. You know that bidding war something the Niners and not gonna want to get themselves involved in doesn't now come down to sort of a binary choice between Her cousins. If you could get him and Jimmy Garoppolo, or are all of these science, pointing to Jimmy Garoppolo and the quarterback carousel for the Niners is going to stop with him. Well, I don't think the quarterback carousel ever stops in the in the NFL. It's a very good point Gold for everybody. People keep mining it for all it's worth. But, um, I think at the end of the day it zombie Garoppolo And really, the question is, should be Garoppolo and who else is behind him? Right now. It's Jimmy Garoppolo in Josh Johnson are the only cubes signed for the off season. Um, they go through the offseason with four so they're two more spots open. Um, you know, I think that they're gonna draft a quarterback and certainly the first time since 2017 that they've done so And the question would be how highly do they They tracked it. Do they use the number? 12 pick Or is it somebody like a C? J. Better that they pick up with one of their their multiple third round picks show that's That's how I see it playing out. I mean, I think they're gonna Yeah, this is this is part of their M. 02 is to be in on trades like Matt Stafford. They like to be in on the action in case you know, something unexpected happens. Sure it sends. It sends a signal toe. Other teams that you know the 40. Niners are always open for action. So if we've got a trade, let's let's give John Lynch a call. They want to. They want to be receptive to all, um, transactions and acquisitions and things like that. Just you know, so that if something like a Jimmy Garoppolo, which happened out of the blue and 2017 comes along Um, they're they're one of the first teams that are that are called so that that's part of the reason why they're always mentioned, Uh, you know whether it's the Austin Hooper for the tight end from Atlanta last year toe Lady on belt kind of goes on Way back toe Nobby, Awesome Juan and guys from a decade ago, that's That's been their business practice to do that. So it's a long way of saying I expect them to be mentioned to be in on the Shawn Watson if it ever comes to pass, But you're right. It's it's hard to see them outbidding some of these other teams for watching. You know, the whole thing is really interesting because it's like going back to Garoppolo. It's like clearly if they like Garoppolo, they would have locked him up, extended him and figured everything out. Instead, they've looked around last year and this year Just looking at this draft. Okay, So let's just say Lawrence goes one to Jacksonville because everybody thinks that's gonna happen. The Jets are sitting there too. They may go quarterback. They may not, Um, maybe they go with the kid from BYU. Maybe they go with the Buckeye guy. Or maybe they maybe they trade forward to Shawn Watson. What do you think of the of the idea of, um trading with Robert Sala up in the draft for guy like Zach Wilson? Do you think I mean Two me, the guys. The quarterbacks that arm or ready to play would be Mack Jones of Alabama and Zach Wilson from BYU. I think those guys are probably more ready to play earlier on. But what do you think of the idea of trading? Maybe, you know some package of picks and players to move up to two. Yeah. I mean, it's something that California han, um he's been hesitant about. Rookie quarterbacks, and part of that was because back in 2017 when they were adding quarterbacks. They knew that this was a rebuild. They knew that Kirk cousins might be available in creating see Um so he didn't go in that direction. I don't know if their position has changed to a point where they would, um, kind of changed their stance on that. My My instinct is to say no, that they feel like their their window of opportunity is wide open right now and that if you bring in a Zach will senior, you're taking a bit of a risk and in the short term We don't know if he's going to be good, and you don't know how quickly he's gonna pick up this. This offense, which has been a challenge for even multi year veterans, guys like Matt Ryan. So, um, That's why I don't think that they would now the guy that interests me is Trey Lance, because he's somebody that you you would think might even make it. Uh 12. Just given his sort of peculiar college career, Um, but he's got all the kind of physical skills that you would just love. So you would have the situation where you've got the veteran Jimmy Garoppolo and you've got Really intriguing guy behind him. Who would, you know, basically not do anything his first year, But you know, in 2022 all of a sudden you've got a legitimate Plan B in case you, don't you? You decided once and for all toe part ways with Jimmy Garoppolo. How is Garoppolo handling this? Because it does. I haven't heard anything from him or have been no reports that the these disillusioned it on when there is Tom Brady last year. There is Stafford this year that maybe you know it'd stories about the night is interesting. Watson. It just Hi. How is he feeling? Because if he could just like truck this off, like, Hey, you know that's the business. You know, they like I got to do better. I gotta stay healthy. I understand it like you can get it. But these guys still have feelings. And sometimes feelings get hurt, like godly. You know, they trusted me a couple of years ago, and now they're saying what they can do to get me out of here had How's he handling all this? You think Well, I haven't talked to him after the Stafford stuff. I did talk to him after the Brady dalliance last year, and he said, You know, two things that you know it's calm Brady. Of course, the 40 Niners had toe Kind of look at it and investigated And the other thing you said was that John Lynch and Palate Phantom hand kind of kept him, um, apprised of everything every step of the way there was constant contact with him. Which he said he appreciated that honesty and any really didn't seem bothered at all by it. I mean, I think you're right. You have to be to some degree. They're basically saying, you know, we're still interested in another quarterback, and you haven't sold us. Um and his other takeaway was that that's That's what the NFL is there. People are constantly trying to take your job and your coaches air trying tow constantly figure out if there's a way to bring in somebody better than you, and so It was a very rational take in the matter. Um, And then you could make the argument that maybe he should have been more heard. You know, he should have been more offended, like a like a Matt Ryan would have been really ticked off over it..

How 9/11 Set Robert Saleh on the Path to Coaching the New York Jets
"And how many years have you been covering this franchise. Pablo f govern the jets for thirty two years. Which is longer than any person in history that's deserves a purple heart or you know a trip to the insane asylum but yes. It's thirty two years. And so how. Many coaches coaches have you seen. Come through the new york jets in that time. Yeah it's funny because the other day w- before they introduced roberts sala. I went back and checked because we need covered. That long. And the jets chains coaches so often you lose track over over time. He ends well. Total man okay. So you're the perfect person to talk to today. Your latest piece rich is about number twelve robert sala and his decidedly unique journey to new york city and the nfl coaching ranks. So before we get into all of the football and there is so much there. Tell me a little bit about robert. Saleh's background where did he grow up in. What was his upbringing like. Robert grew up in dearborn michigan which is just outside of detroit. Most people know it as a home of ford motor company but it's also the largest percentage of arab americans in the country. He is the grandson of lebanese immigrant. Muslim neighborhood a very strong and closely knit neighborhood and football was a big part of it. At robert really has football in his family. His dad played at eastern michigan university. He was. I'm told a very good middle linebacker. In fact he had a tryout with the chicago bears uncles who played cousins. Who played his older brother. David played all at ford's in high school. You mentioned the solid name at forts in high school and there is a strong tradition. Some of the best players in the schools history are members of the family from an early age. When robert was a seven year old waterboy for his older brother's football team. Football has been a huge part of his life. The family's life very much part of his upbringing in dearborn michigan so robert is growing up in this lebanese-american muslim family in dearborn a football family. What kind of player was robert himself. Yeah very good player. A captain in highschool played two ways. He was a linebacker in a tight end and really good. I talked to his high school coach. Jeff sturdiness in. I asked him. I said what kind of player was robert. He said he was like all the other solids he can really hit. You actually wears a bracelet to this day on his on his wrist during games. It says extreme violence. So i guess we could describe him as a very physical player who was good enough to get a scholarship in northern michigan and he went on to become an all conference. Tight end in northern michigan fell was ever a serious option for him. But i would say you know a really good ice school football player who enjoyed a solid career. So if you're a football player with that decidedly unsubtle mission statement rich. What do you do after college. Robert went to the exact opposite spectrum of what that mission statement would be. I mean he goes to work behind a desk working a nine to five job in a very stuffy. Corporate office building in downtown detroit is a credit analyst for america bank putting his finance degree work. His brother david is in the financial world is well you know. He graduated with a finance degree. So this is just following in the footsteps of his family. You know his dad had some done. Some business work. His grandfather was actually owned his own furniture store in dearborn. So he's really robert. Sala is point in his life in the year. Two thousand just anna colleges just following in the footsteps of some of his other relatives.

New York Jets Hire Robert Saleh As Next Head Coach
"Robert sala is leaving the san francisco forty niners to become the head coach of the new york jets. The jets themselves tweeted out the news last night and adam schefter. Espn reported that solid is going to take passing game coordinator mike leflore with him to be as offensive coordinator in new york. Schefter added that sahlin. The jets have agreed to a five year contract in a tax to the monday morning. Quarterbacks albert breer gm john lynch said quote. Roberts earned this opportunity. He's a very smart tremendously. Gifted leader and ready for this challenge will miss him dearly but he's left as better and will be proud of all that he'll accomplish. The jets are very fortunate.

Wilson, Lockett help Seahawks rally for 26-23 win over 49ers
"Turn it. Hand called his time inside. The ten inside the five touchdown seahawks back. It's up five. Doesn't matter alex collins is gonna punch it in for you anyway. Steve ray will. Kiro with the call outs. Columns ran for eight yards on a yard score. Russell wilson threw two fourth quarter. Touchdown passes the tyler lockett the seahawks rally twenty six twenty three win over the niners They end twelve and four. The seahawks four game winning streak But they are locked in at the number three seed. because of the saints packers winning the seahawks will host the rival rams in the wildcard round next week and mark. How good you feel about the seahawks. After today's game i would. I'm concerned about their offense. It's almost like a flip inverse relation to where they were earlier in the year. Where the offense was we watched it through the air. We had russell wilson pegged as a potential mvp because of how they were allowing him to play and how decay metcalf antilock. We're playing and the defense was all the concern. I mean lock it today. Set a seattle seahawks record for receptions in a season decay metcalf set a franchise record for yardage in a season but a lot of that has to do with the compiled numbers from earlier on this team. At one hundred and nine yards the start of the fourth quarter. They couldn't run the ball and it took a very typical seahawks. Finish the tyler lockett touchdowns and the alex collins dash for a score. I mean they came up late in a game where i would put this a little bit into divisional game against cal shanahan. Who robert sala. Who thought again. It's been weeks in a row. Coaching lights out. I'll made things real tough for seattle seattle things tough for the niners in the opposite way just sort of a typical nfc west beatdown and this niners team. They keep flashing to the box up in the sky where like star players not in the game. I mean they're doing with nobody and seattle. They work themselves out of a funk to some degree. do i trust them

Skip and Shannon: Undisputed
Why won't NFL teams hire minority coaches?
"Three head. Coaching spots have been filled this week. But none of those. Three coaches were minorities while the Rooney rule has been followed. Some are beginning to believe that minority forty candidates are not being taken seriously for the open jobs and anonymous African American. NFL Assistant Coach said that the League has quote finally shown. It's not the place as for black men to advance. It's ridiculous it's disgusting. We can sell tickets and make plays but we can't lead Shannon. Why isn't the Rooney rule role working? Well I think until skip this diversity thing yeah. Diversity is a great great to talk about but until you get someone the leadership position that says you know what. I don't just want to talk about it. I want to be about it so until you get older ships that actually wants to put some substance to this and this is what that you're GonNa get now if the general manager there's one general manager that's what minority and that's CR- Chris greer in Miami. There's zero owners that are it shouldn't say minorities. I guess because shot con radically a minority. But when you get the gist of what I what. I'm trying to say until leadership gets more diverse. You're I'm not gonNA have a more diverse hiring background skills. This was puzzling to be. Is that Eric. Enemy has the exact Zac job that Matt Nagy had negative and call plays any recall. Please man they can get the job. Doug Peterson sedinko plays true. Recall to play around Rivera's on but Ron Rivera was not the defensive coordinator in Philly. He he became a D. coordinator what's he got to the D. Coordinator in Chicago. You are you in San Diego. Yeah but he got his getting these enter coaching tree. Eric B enemy has the exact same job. That Matt Nagy Doug Peterson has and he's not getting opportunity is spirit but this. I don't really think that they go into it. Unless you incentivize this. Okay if you how minorities kill we maybe you have an extra three to five five dollars and cap space. That's the only thing that resonates with these owners because I get it skipped if I spent three billion. Let's just say I spent three billion dollars for a restaurant run. You Go tell me what the hell I need to cook. Cook whatever I WanNa Cook it there. And that's how they look at it. Jerry Jones spent money for this. This this mind you oh tell me why should get killed but but this notion that Oh and they brought Muhiba Marvin Marvin Lewis. He brought him in to to do that. Situation wasted the same with the giants the giants they had irebi enemy. They what Joe Judge Chris Rashard Rashard. Excuse me Chris Restoring. Yeah so now. Now we're down to one. Vacant Cleveland Reunion. I'm talking about how good already know. Angle get no frills JAYCO network skill. He already interviewed there. So you would now now the take my name off the leader and solid rubber solid. Take my name off the list. Because he's GonNa get Mad Max two and a half years if you're lucky that seems to instead that's all Jimmy can stomach now if you look at it they keep these. You look at Mike Patton. You look at all the guys they've had and these guys have had I think. Hugh Jackson stayed the longest at two and a half years. But everybody's been two years the list huge only two and a half two and a half long but you get you get these other guys you get pretty kitchens and you look at patent and you look at a I forget. Just give all these one year jazz. WE ACHE AAC CLEVELAND. That in Cleveland of the North this skill ruining rules a joke. I get it. You know minorities Cadillac. An affirmative action thanksgiving. Yeah but in -firmative action. I guess it's federal dollars. You'RE NOT GONNA get the money if you don't do this. The NFL is a is a private entity. So what can you do. What Ki- what can you give? Nfl Do not the so. I have been tracking this for a long time because one of my best friends is John. Wooten who is now the retired leader of the Fritz Pollard. Alliance and he was the driving force behind instituting the Rooney rule as I hiring practice in the national shirow all league and John's point from the start was I just need interviews because if a young assistant coach gets interviewed a couple of times times it gets reported in his name gets out there and if another owner sees that name enough over maybe a couple of years hiring cycles else maybe an owner says chee that guy. He's getting a lot of interviews. Maybe I should bring in. Maybe I should be more open minded to him. But if you're GONNA curse because if I get a a lot of interviews and I'm not getting hired was wrong why here the me getting hired cave liability with that. But John's point in the end was I'd rather have interviews than not have interests. Okay okay so let's go back to the stat that I use last week. The Institute of Diversity and Ethics In sports twenty nine thousand nine racial and gender report card for the National Football Bali. The League got actually an a plus for hiring of color. Assistant coaches right a sit a plot. Oh that's progress right. It got a deep loss for hiring head coach of Color White eight-plus assistance d-plus head head coaches. There's a big disconnect there and it shows you. That owners are fine. Oh hire two or three black assistant fine with that but nope nope. I don't want to head coach to be black. Right gives quite to the restaurant you can cook. You'll be in the bank but Michelle not the bridge. I roll up now okay so when I texted back and forth last we can use this last week of John Wooten just beside himself now. He is devastated by this this development his point was that only one. GM Chris Grin Miami. Point out is use. John's word heartbreaking because it could start with the GM right a black GM of or of color could be more open minded to say to the owner. Hey listen this guy is really bring him in. Let me let me introduce him to you right. The conduit to the owner can be stronger. Iran have I don't know six or eight black. GM right right. We've had them around the league four or but all of a sudden there's a dearth to rape Barma with Barma within Cleveland. He'd Gone Rick Smith who I know very well be in Denver. He interviewed for The Washington. Ashington John Daniel Snyder said head coach could be a head coach. Basically general manager after the Washington like who are the head coaching after the draft. The General Mattis. Okay so sometimes there is group think or shink sheep among the owners because in the end they do want to win right. And if they're looking around the League league and that black head coaches really successful they say well I want one of those. I want to go that direction right well. There was one black head coach who started to have success late in the year ear and he happened to be allied with Chris. Clear in Miami and Brian Floors off the Patriots. Well they started out all time badge for about what seven seven games fifty. Nine seven opening renders and then they basically it felt like they turned the whole roster iside down which they needed to do and then all of a sudden the last nine games they go five and four they upset the eagles and then they went to foxborough and just basically ended the season. I thought for the new New England Patriots playoff teams right. Okay so all the sudden Brian floor floor with the help of Chris greer. They're having big success. It looks like it's headed in the right drug us us but it wasn't enough of a splash to create momentum through the hiring process and right because John Wooden again texted me back with so many names he said we have so many in the pipeline. Who already started with Eric? B Enemy and Chris Rock. I think Chris Shaw Bad Year on defense but when I watch him interviewed when I watch his body language. It's a stunt man he's he's got. CEO Written all over him. He looks like a commanding officer to me. There's not enough black head coaches skip. Because because you look you look at Mike McCarthy guest job he hires the guy that gave him his opportunity coordinator fifteen years ago so you see the circle. We'll skip once you become a head coach. What do you do you go to the combine? You go to say elbow you got your drake. He goes to the coaches meeting and Yada Yada Yada and to connect with the boom boom boom right right. So if I'm not in that Lou. How do I get into loops? Because a rid of staff they said eighty percent of the jobs are never posted so in other worth people get hired somebody a friend or family member is not what you know who you know There in live the roof. It does house so to finish John. Bruton's list of pipeline candidates being AMEE. Chris Rashard Robert Sala. He threw Jim Caldwell on his list. Is Jim Colwell was highly successful zestful. Jim called wheel lost his jaw. Going nine and seven in two years Matt Patricia has nine total win and he's still got a job now he goldwell still doesn't have another job he in four years. He went to the playoffs twice in the last year he went nine and seven and they said well you know we need to move in a different direction. uh-huh and the guy that's replaced has yet to win nine total games in two years. Do you still own a still on the clock. Okay Steve wilks got one shot in time. I'm one year in Arizona and he was gone. He's now the defensive coordinator in Cleveland which probably didn't help his cause this year that much but I don't hear his name no in Cleveland right right on the list. And then there's Terrel Austin who's young stripes potential star coach and John Wootton into his list with Marvin Lewis who he thinks deserves a second shy right. Okay so Jerry. Jones did observe in qualified for the Rooney rule by bringing in. I Marvin Lewis. I think Jerry was shrewd operating waiting there. Because he didn't pick a young like like Chris Rashard type interview him because of Jerry had interviewed a young potential upcoming head. Black coach right. There's more pressure on Jerry. What was wrong with right? What's the problem exactly? He went to Marvin Lewis because he thinks Marvin Lewis is kind of old news right right. He got his longtime time shot in Cincinnati. Listen I still think Marvin did a good job job seriously. Yes okay he went. Oh and seven in the playoffs but still it was Andy Dalton Alton you re you with covering the NFL and you remember what Cincinnati before. Marlene got there was John. Carter number one overall. You Got David Cleland with the fourth. The fourth picket. You got big day to day and Wilkerson purse around the second pick in the draft year after year after a year people. Forget what I know. Marvin didn't win a playoff game. But they weren't even getting close to the playoffs for Marvin got there. No so I was disappointed in Jerry because you know my heart Hartz. I'd love to see Jerry Jones higher black head coach and I think I probably won't live long enough or Jerry will live long enough to know.
