"robert gibbs" Discussed on Hacks on Tap with David Axelrod and Mike Murphy

"All about is so bill kristol. Eric asks i really feel that. The timing of the syrian refugee crisis and the isis attacks in europe helped to make trump's message of xenophobia and anti leftism really stick in two thousand fifteen. Should we be worried. That an afghan refugee crisis coupled with the videos of al qaeda. Back to openly training on monkey bars will breathe. New life into the xenophobic nationalist camp here in america and in europe. I think we should worried. I be worried. I what happened in two thousand fourteen happens now in or conceivably pakistan. Which is you know. We pulled out of iraq. Twenty eleven things. Were okay for a couple of years and then by twenty fourteen. We had this terrible isis. Aycell you know islamic state and we had americans being killed. God knows thousands of thousands of iraqis and others being killed slaughters. We had to go back in out. There was also having not into syria. We can debate about that for for for five or six hours but we then ended up with a terrible syrian and most syrian refugee crisis in two thousand fourteen fifteen which then led a genuine crisis but then led to terrible political ramifications in europe and ultimately here. I very much greed. Sally fox news showing the syrian refugees. Europe in two thousand fifteen Made a huge impact beyond the actual to end the terror attacks europe the terror attacks year which were not particularly connected to syrian refugees but which trump lumped altogether the muslim ban and that led to trump and trumpism. And all that so. That's a terrible sequence of events. I worry quite a bit. That aid is terrible sequence of events in the real world as we did in twenty fourteen. Two thousand fifteen In the because of afghanistan which would then lead to a terrible series of events in reaction politically in in the west and in the us. But i do think. The afghan refugees are different from the syrian refugees. And this is where i think biden needs now though to be pretty aggressive at explaining that this is. We're proud to take these people. We're taking as many as possible. That's why i think even for political point of view let alone humanitarian point of view pushing to extend the deadline deadline. Not looking like we're we got all the americans out we've got some afghans Afghans we're not gonna to run a risk to get more out of. That would be a mistake. I think he needs to make sure in the real world and we don't have a twenty fourteen twenty fifteen type situation and politically that he Takes advantage frankly of the fact that i think american very well disposed to the afghans. Who want who helped us. And who stood up For principles we care about and believe in and help them and help them get out. Yeah well. I hope you're right again as we said earlier. I hope you're right. We owe these people. They put their lives on the line for us. I have a different view on refugee issues. Generally being the son of one so But i- in this case i think a debt is owed a debt needs to be paid Robert gibbs matthew says i am a young campaign manager managing my first state senate race for a democrat in the bay area yikes we start off fundraising strong but have hit a lull since the summer months and are encountering crickets from the elected democratic establishment. What would be a good time to call it quits so he can potentially run for another office in the future or would be a good idea to soldier on until the end of the year. I sure hope his candidate doesn't listen to hack song tap because not gonna forge a relationship there may be should. Maybe we should change the name there so that maybe he already did a hopefully so hopefully a couple of practical things Most of which is Fundraising in the summer is never A robust thing. I think every time i've ever seen a fundraising budget You know ju- late july mid to late july and august are not seen as munson. Which a lot of fundraising contributions tend to come in. It's it's hard to get people to focus on Going to a fundraiser. Or giving money because they're worried about their summer and they're worried about all the other stuff that we talked about the in this episode in terms of the establishment. And and what you should do in the timetable. I'd give it a few more months in the fall see if your fundraising picks up See if you're outreach. Picks up see if you can convince others that your candidacy in the candidacy of your candidate is actually viable. But give it a few more months to figure that out. Don't just pull the plug right at the end of summer given a few more months And see if you can't figure out a pathway to win if you can at that point it's honorable not to go on and since you addressed this question to robert gibbs. He will come out and do a fundraiser candidates even email your information acts on tap at gmail.com where people should send their questions and robert will be out there with his sandwich board as sometime in the near future One thing that young man. When i see. He's encountering crickets from the elected. Democratic establishment part of me says okay so run against the elected democratic establishment. I mean i. I made a pretty good living doing that. And i i shouldn't. I wouldn't be discouraged by that but you don't want to be caught. No-man's-land warrior seeking the approbation of the democratic establishment. You're not getting it. And you're not taking advantage of being an insurgent so I would think think about that. You got one for me on the way out here. I do acts acts win in the run-up this from jack win in the run up to the twenty ten elections. Did you start to see signs. That would be a tough one for democrats. Were there early warning signs of the famous shellacking that went ignored at that time. win ignored at the time that democrats should look out for now. The gods honest truth. Jack is i can tell you the exact date. I had this conversation. Robert gibbs was in the same room when we got briefed on the economic situation december sixteenth. Two thousand eight while we were told what we were going to face because the country hadn't yet totally come to grips with the depth of the economic crisis and it was such a jarring presentation so depressing as we walked out of the room. I turned to the president. Elect barack obama. Said we're gonna get our asses kicked in the midterms..

"To them on dropbox and we love it all right. Let's talk about the midterms usually the party. That's expected to lose seats in a midterm. We'll put on a brave face and spin reporters with a lot of talk. That everyone knows is bullshit but not are democrats. Dan democrats politico reported this week. That that d triple seat chair. Sean patrick maloney recently told his most vulnerable incumbents that if the election were held today they would lose the majority. His prediction was based on new. Polling showed democrats falling behind republicans by six points on generic ballot in battleground districts when asked about the data the detroit c.'s. Executive director told politico. We are not trying to hide. This story was specifically focused on concern over. The party's message. What is that concern. And do you agree with it. Well i i wanna just say kudos to sean patrick maloney and the digital say. This is the right thing to do right. I mean i was thinking about the happy talk doesn't get you anywhere just telling everyone like we're fine. We're going to win it's great. Yeah everyone in the party donors activists members need to be crystal clear about how steep hill. We have before us. And i was thinking back. Did you remember in two thousand and ten when our friend. And then what else. Presbytery robert gibbs. What on meet the press. And i think david gregory was hosted the time he asked him whether ask you were. There was a chance. Democrats could lose the house and he gives said yes. Which was patently obvious thing. It wasn't likely at the time in what you said about warning signs were everywhere. I mean unemployment was ten percent like it was pretty possible. Wasn't great and the house. Democrats went bananas on him. I think steny hoyer held a press conference. Just to attack robert gibbs for remember that it was brutal they were so mad at him and he was sure right gives love that. Yeah yeah yeah. It was very Contentious if you owe meetings robert in the legislative affairs team around that time like this is the right thing to do. People need to be aware of the challenge before us. And that's important. Now this specific messaging question In this story debbie dingle who is a congresswoman from michigan and one of the savviest members politically she Democratic operative for long time. The widow congressman john. Nichols you serve his seat. She said our message is not breaking through. And that's exactly right. That is what's happening. We've talked with us before. I think this is a megaphone problem. That a message problem. It's like people it's other. Were saying the wrong things is that people are not hearing them because we do not have the apparatus to get to them. There is some good news on this. There was a report last week. I think that democratic groups were going to spend a hundred million dollars in the during the month of august on messaging. Around the bipartisan infrastructure. Deal and the and the jobs and family plan to communicate to voters about it and so there is. There are some cavalry coming But yeah people have ever right to be concerned. It is seem somewhat patently obvious that if the election were held today we will lose the house because for i think about it this way. If joe biden's fifty point six which is a very respectable and good at providing present it. What are we in. That's a national poll that includes california new york etc. What do we think. His approval rating is in districts that either trump won or biden did less well than his national numbers and we know that generic democrats underperformed bided in these districts. And so this is obvious but it's important to say exactly what needs to be aware of the work ahead of us. I do agree that we're not breaking through with our message. I sort of always agree with that. It's very hard to break through the message. We've talked about that a million times. I i sort of wonder if it's more of an economy problem. General mood problem than it is a message problem and i wondered that because of a couple of things from this polling you know they said that both the american rescue plan in the american jobs plan in this pulling are incredibly popular. Incredibly popular with swing voters in battleground districts. Right not just like base. Democrats people love these plans and yet only forty two percent of the people in this in these polls Battleground voters trust democrats on the economy. And so and they also. Debbie dingle said that when she goes home to michigan in her in her district people. The democrats aren't doing enough to boost the economy so clearly. It seems like there is some financial concerns around the country. Economic concerns around the country and people don't feel the economy is where it should be and they don't see democrats doing enough to fix it now. Partly that can be solved by you know better. Messaging and spending a lot of money delivering that message to voters and saying look. We are doing a lot to help you. Here's what we're here's what we've already passed. And here's what we're fighting for now. I think that's That's a necessity. But i wonder if it truly get until the economy gets fixed and things are going well when people say. Oh yeah now. I feel like i'm doing better in my own life and i'm looking around the economy and things are good. I don't know i mean. Joe biden mailed a thousand dollar check to tens of millions of people in it didn't affect his approval rating down that does speak to the limits of white can. What else are they going to do that. It's more popular like the stuff in the or more impactful to people's lives. No i guess. What i'm saying is like until inflation comes in until until people say okay. Inflation really isn't a long term problem. it was temporary. It's coming down and now i'm in a better mood. Like i think that you know one thing you keep seeing in these polls in focus groups to is people just keep mentioning the inflation issue. And they're saying yeah maybe he gave me a thousand dollar check but now prices are rising. So what the fuck i. Which is biden has very little control over almost enough. Yeah no that's that's the challenge always economy. The president gets all the blame all the credit and has only limited influence on what actually happens. I mean i remember us like watching like bank. Default rates in greece being a really relevant reelection factor. Remember so you have a couple of choices here. I think we cannot leave this topic of keeping the house without pointing out that all of the messaging billions of dollars in ads would be less impactful than passing a one page bill in the senate that band partisan gerrymandering. That's the biggest problem and this is not the usual. Seems fall trump. after moe's fall. That's joe manchin cures cinemas cinemascope because everyone else's for that they pass that. But that is we that would if you had a choice between one hundred billion dollars in democratic ads between now and november or passing the one page ban on partisan gerrymandering about what would help us the most and keeping the house. It would definitely be gerrymandering been. I completely agree with that though. I was sort of thinking about it from the other perspective which is na world. i don't want people to think that the reason that the houses in jeopardy is only because of republican gerrymandering even. That's the biggest reason that if there were no gerrymandering we would still pose like this where the democratic challenger or the democrat is six points behind a republican in a battleground district. We have other problems to fix. So i don't want people just thinking like our messages perfect enough. All if only we just passed independent redistricting commissions. Everything would be great. Yeah we should. We should under independent redistricting commissions and eliminate ten republican states in california as one possible. Fuck which i think you can actually about initiative but you get my point but yeah it. The other thing is not to be overly dark about this but this is a poll of juryman districts. We don't even know how you're the that's what i'm saying. This is the best case scenario people. We got a lot of problems. We got a lot of problems but the other thing the other messaging question here is this will lead us into our next topic is should we spend money and time and energy advertising. What democrats have done to make your life better or should we spend time and energy.

"Shapiro in the Search bar. Go check them out right now. Okay, So of course, it's not just the presses treatment of Barack Obama that is astonishingly biased and demonstrates their pure animosity for Republicans and their pure willingness to basically massaged into being any narrative about Democrats. Is that true of every Democrat? So, Jen Psaki remember Jen Psaki. So, Jen Psaki, you still I on behalf of the Obama administration of the State Department. Then she lied on behalf of the Obama administration CNN now she's gonna lie on behalf of Biden. At the White House. Here is how she is characterized by The New York Times Ready Mr Biden's choice. Jennifer Psaki 42, a veteran of the Obama administration, who is generally viewed by reporters as fair and accessible as the chief spokeswoman, embodies return to normalcy. See she's viewed by reporters is fair and accessible. That means that she is fair and accessible because reporters, airfare and accessible Or alternatively, they all agree with each other because it's an echo chamber of leftists. According to The New York Times. Sachi will be more than most recognizable faces in the new administration. She's going to bring back Restoring faith in the word spoken from behind the podium. How do we know Because Susan Rice tells us Susan Rice one on national television and lied repeatedly about the Benghazi attacks, being a spontaneous outpouring of rage over a YouTube video, not a planned terrorist attack. Susan Rice, as quote the clown games are over general representing professionalism and decency and commitment to transparency that has been a hallmark of Joe Biden's career. Wow. Amazing, Amazing. Robert Gibbs, Obama's first White House press secretary, is quoted by The New York Times. Well, I mean, these are objective source is right here. If you're going to get takes on Jen Psaki, the people you want to talk to you are definitely Robert Gibbs, a person who used to lie on behalf of Barack Obama and also Susan Rice, a person who used to lie on behalf of Barack Obama to talk about Jen Psaki, who used to lie on behalf of Barack Obama. Has some serious media in right there. Journalism ng up the wazoo. Robert Gibbs says. I think she brings as much experience in that building as much as anyone has ever brought to the job. World. This administration inherent has more challenges than any in nearly a century. Having a steady, experienced voice behind that podium will serve them well. Stunning, stunning stuff. Nothing. I love better than an objective media reports on Jen Psaki that includes quotes from Susan Rice and Robert Gibbs. Really well done, by the way. Jen Psaki already wanted to people like what? Already, So she put out a photo of herself Back in 2014 meeting with Sergei Lavrov was the Russian foreign minister. He gave her a gift. It was one of those Russian hats, the furry hats, the round ones. And on the front of it. It had the Soviet star with hammer and sickle. She put it on and posed and smiled. That re emerged because they're going to be presumably hearings about her media coverage about her and all the rest. So how did she respond to a photo of her that she posted quote. Anyone who hasn't been the target of Russian propaganda. The purpose is to discredit powerful messengers and you spread misinformation to confuse the public. Anyone who repeats it is unwilling or not simply a puppet of the propaganda machine. So is she a puppet of the propaganda machine because she's gonna posted it. Also the way this works is if you're if you're Pete Russian disinformation, you're part of the Russian propaganda machine. I seem to remember four years of Democrats repeating Russian disinformation about Trump being a Russian cat spa. Where they Russian cat's paws themselves. Apparently, yes. We know that Jen Psaki doesn't mean that I love this is Russian disinformation now? If people notice a photo you put up Don't worry. The media will cover for her Here Is USA Today's fact. Check You ready? The claim. Photo shows Jen Psaki, Joe Biden's pick for press secretary, wearing a hammer and sickle help while posing with officials from Russia. Ruling missing a context. That's not a fact, Jack. Is it true that she was wearing the hat because that's like the entire claim the entire claiming she was wearing the hat. And your ruling is yes, It's true, but also we want to make excuses for her. Our fact checking media. I trust them. We should always trust them, right? Why? Why? Why don't people take him? Seriously? I just don't get it. Already in just a second. We're going to get two more of this more of the media undercutting faith in America's institutions. Get to that in just a moment. First another way. 20 twenties thirties for Luke, the holidays. We have to go to gets nonstarters this year after everything that's happened this year. I want to get everybody on the list a gift that will actually make them say Hey, thanks. I need this. I'm gonna use it. There's a silver bullet idea of rake on wireless earbuds. Seamless Bluetooth pairing in a comfortable noise, isolating fit. You can start listening right out of the box and keep listening for hours. The audio quality is incredible. Is the freedom of every Democrat. So Jen Psaki remember Jen Psaki. So Jen Psaki used to lie on behalf of the Obama administration of the State Department. That means that she is fair and accessible because reporters are fair and accessible. Or alternatively, they all agree with each other because it's an echo chamber of leftists. According to The New York Times. Sachi. We wanted most recognizable faces in the new administration. She is going to bring back Restoring faith in the word spoken from behind the podium. If you're going to get takes on Jen Psaki, the people you want to talk to you are definitely Robert gives a person who used to lie on behalf of Barack Obama and also Susan Rice, a person who used to lie on behalf of Barack Obama to talk about Jen Psaki, who used to lie on behalf of Barack Obama. Has some serious media in right there. Journalism ng up the wazoo. Robert Gibbs says. I think she brings as much experience in that building as much as anyone has ever brought to the job. World. This administration inherent has more challenges than any nearly a century. Re emerged because they're going to be presumably hearings about her media coverage about her and all the rest. The claim. Photo shows Jen Psaki, Joe Biden's pick for press secretary, wearing a hammer and sickle, hello posing with officials from Russia. Ruling missing in context. That's not a fact, Jack. Is it true that she was wearing the hat because that's like the entire claim the entire claiming she was wearing the hat. And your ruling is yes, It's true, but also we want to make excuses for her. Our fact checking media. I trust them. You should always trust them, right? Why? Why? Why don't people take them seriously? I just don't get it. Already in just a second. We're going to get you more of this more of the media undercutting faith in America's institutions. Get to that in just a moment. First another way. 20 twenties thirties for Luke, the holidays. I want to go to gets nonstarters this year after everything that's happened this year. "Called a promised land. When you became president, you were striving for bipartisanship. And then, of course, there's your famous 2004 keynote at the Democratic National Convention in 2004, in which he said, there's not a liberal America and a conservative America There is not a Black America and White America and Latino America and an Asian America. There's the United States of America. And you get elected president and Mitch McConnell says the single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one term president. You're right that he even told members of his caucus not to talk with you about. I think it was the stimulus bill like not to even talk with you so much for bipartisanship. Yeah, yeah, that didn't work out as well as I'd hoped. Uh, it was shocking to me. That It happened so fast, and you were in a freefall economically when I come in office, 800,000 jobs a month are being lost The economies actually contracting Mork quickly than it did during the Great Depression. And so the assumption was well, let's act fast, and we go to the Mitch McConnell and we go to John Boehner and others and we asked him, but We need to do this. We want your input. Tell us what provisions you want. Do you want tax cuts? Are there certain projects that you historically have supported? That would help boost demand like spending more on infrastructure, etcetera and Described him on my way to meet with the Republican caucus before the vote. Just as we're about to get in the car. David Axelrod, my communications director, and Robert Gibbs, My press secretary, come into the Oval Office and show this AP story where John Boehner before I've even showed up to make the case to the caucus, says. "There's a lot of noise, I mean, I think Steve Bannon Explicitly said We're just gonna fill up. The Information pipeline with Experimental. Yeah, they'll get very cloudy. It doesn't really matter whether ultimately what we're saying is disproven. It creates confusion and uncertainty. In the minds of voters, and that's enough for our purposes of getting power. Yeah, you don't know what's true. And what's false that Zack Correct. So you write in the book that at one point during Your presidency when those so many stressful things happening in terms of, you know, like policy and And also you were getting so you know, smeared by by by the right. They were worried about you. And you said you just why? You're so worried. I'm not so stressed out. Why do you think I'm so stressed out? And Robert Gibbs, your first press secretary said. If you watch cable news, you'd be worried about you, too. And then you realize that people thought of you as the person that Fox News another right wing outlets was portraying. Had you not been watching Fox And did you not want to know? And did that change at any point during your presidency? Did you want to see what was being said about you? I will say that I For my own mental health, and I advised to my family members to follow the same practice. I just didn't watch broadcast news of any sort or cable news of any sort. Very rarely did I watch it. But you're right. The reason that conversation was illuminating was it wasn't just on Fox. What happens is I think that's in the chapter. I call in the barrel and And you know that was a phrase we used to use when the media narrative turns south and you are tumbling over the falls in the sense that all the news is bad. You can't get out of this cycle of people thinking that you're inept, But you you're politically wounded that you're Allies. Stop defending you quite as much your enemies, you know, since blood in the water And what happens is that visually the pictures that accompany the stories that are told about you on television start changing on. That's something I hadn't really noticed to realize because look, Television is a visual medium more than anything else. So suddenly I noticed that in all the pictures that are being used of me, or I looked really older and and somber and I'm more alone. Where is when Things were going good. Did I'm smiling and hugging babies and dogs. Dogs running around life looks good birds are chirping over my head. Probably There was a little bit of a disadvantage for me. In not following us carefully. What was going on in television? There would be moments during my presidency where there would be something I thought. Uh, we were handling well. And yet my press secretary's or communications post would have to come and say, Listen, this is a problem, And I'd say Well, why? I don't understand, actually. We're doing everything we're supposed to do, and they were tracking how the media Environment was telling the story. Well, let's take a short break here and then we'll talk some more. If you're just joining us. My guest is President Barack Obama. The first volume of this memoir has just been published. It's called a promised land. We'll talk more after we take a short break. This is fresh air. Mm hmm. This is fresh air. Let's get back to the interview I recorded Tuesday afternoon with our 44th president Barack Obama. The first of his two volume memoir has just been published. It's called a promised land. In the introduction to in the preface to your memoir, which I read an excerpt of in our introduction. Um, you talked about the questions you had about, You know American democracy in this time, and you wondered if you were being like Too cautious in word or deed when you were president, Um And I'm wondering if part of that was because if if, as a black man you were felt you had to be more cautious and not show anger to avoid sparking some Americans, fears of the stereotypes of an angry black man. Kind of the kind of thing key and Peele used to play on. And there's stuff about you. That was, which was one of the smarter sketches on comedy shows during my presidency. Look, I think there's some of that. You know, there's a famous story about why Jackie Robinson was chosen by Branch Rickey T O be the first black.

NBC/WSJ poll: Support for Biden has almost doubled

"NBC News Wall, Street Journal poll released yesterday, and support. For Joe Biden has almost doubled after just last week's debate the poll taken before trump announced he had covid nineteen has biden by fourteen, fifty, three to forty nine still with us our professionals. Steve Schmidt, Robert Gibbs Robert I am duty-bound to point out I think Hillary Clinton on this date in two thousand sixteen was ahead by exactly fourteen points with that in mind. What would your charge to your fellow Democrats be? Well I would. I would ignore the polls. And go full steam ahead on what you have to do to win this race next continue to assure the American people. That you're capable and that you've got a plan for implementing that. The. Change that you need to see in the White House but I think Lewis startling about that poll. This race has been remarkably stable Brian it's been stable for a really long time regardless of all that gets thrown at it, and so the NBC NBC eight previous polls, the average margin was Biden by eight percent in February it was Biden by eight percent in September. It was Biden by eight percent now it's fourteen. The American people got a good hard look at Donald Trump in that debate and they liked absolutely nothing of what they saw I don't think Joe Biden is going to win this race by fourteen points. The one of the last moments Donald Trump had available to him to begin to change the trajectory of this race in his favour not only did he miss that opportunity, but he actually handed a significant amount of support with now just four weeks left in this race to his opponent Joe. Biden. Mister Gibbs makes a great point Mr Schmidt and let's go further on. Politics. Steve Mitch McConnell is seventy eight. He is a polio survivor he is scared to. Of Covert nineteen by all available evidence politically, he is scared to death of not pushing through the third Supreme Court nominee what's going to happen? Do you think in the US Senate three Republican members down with positive diagnoses? Well look specifically when it comes to stopping a Supreme Court Nomination Brian you have to think about it like trying to rob a train before you can get to the safe with the gold on it on the train to derail the train you have to slow it down you have to be able to get on the train and so what the Democrats have to do is not be focused on delaying the hearings pass the election they need to be focused on delaying the hearings for the first day they need to push it back one day, and then once you can push it back one day you can. Get the second day, but the reality is is it'd be very difficult for the Senate to hold onto the time line because total recklessness of so many of these senators and of course, trump at the trump administration and all of the chaos that we're seeing play out over over this weekend, and then elect Wurley for the Senate I. Mean This is just a disaster I. Think Certainly Mitch McConnell understands. He's on the precipice of losing his Senate majority. It's almost a certainty that he will. It may be a wipeout. You see for example, Mike spn Mississippi Mike espy is in a very close race now you see. The Kansas Senate race, the Democratic candidate is points up there. So the it seems like the walls are collapsing on all of this. This was a terrible terrible week for trump and for all the trump of batters, enablers and accomplices in the United States Senate I, mean, it started with the with the debate and it got worse from there the. Senior leadership of the campaign scandalized there is a mutant in the campaign on Friday night. PEOPLE DON'T WANNA show up to work too terrified to go into the White House profound mistrust of their leadership, and then there's reports out tonight from the incomparable Gabe Sherman for example, a Vanity Fair talking about the divide in the family looking at how crazy trump's behaviors been. Over the course it is last weekend with Donald Trump junior apparently talent people that they have to try to rain man knowing what a disaster this is. So my view is this is all coming down the Walzer collapsing we're seeing that play out everything we're seeing trump do is from a position of weakness and the idea now that he's going to be able to. CAST himself as some type of hero for having defeated cove at I think is. A ludicrous delusion on the part of him Sean Hannity and his

"Last call so I've got one for you guys. It could be read as a partially shameless self promotion, but it it is mostly the promotion of my buddy John Stewart. Who has a new movie called irresistible on Friday Murphy? Satire and the Butt of the satire are smart ass, old political consultants like you and me and welcome commentators like all three of us, but it's It's really I've seen the film it's. It's with Steve Carell and Chris Cooper. It's very very good. It's very funny. I highly recommended, and I, highly recommend the X. files will. that will be posted on Thursday my conversation with John Stewart not just about that film, but about where we are today, and he's typically brilliant and incisive, and it's really a fun conversation. Well Watch both of them. You get a free set of steak knives to this offers incredible. Go to axelrod promos slash axe to get that twenty five percent. Look. I am equally shameless this week on plugs, my buddies, merry band of patriotic, Republican elves, it Republican voters against trump. That's our vet dot org. If you're curious, we. We were watching all this last week. Is the ramp up to Tulsa and we wondered what the Hell Do. They think in Jacksonville Florida, where trump is planning to bring their bugging convention whether they like it or not now Jacksonville Duval County a critical swing county in Florida Leans Republican. Republican Dem's have not carried it since Jimmy, Carter but in the last couple of elections it's been tight Romney won divall by about three and a half points and lost the state trump won the state, but only divall which is which is very suburban in many ways by about a point and a half, so we called up six hundred where we had a good pollster call up. Six hundred registered voters devolved into last week before Tulsa and say what do you think and they had a message for the president from this lean Republican county, which was stay the hell away by a ten point margin including. Including a big chunk of Republicans, they don't want the convention there. And we even tried the old question where we said well Governor D- Sanish your own, Mayor Merkury, you know it'll bring in hotels, sales and money versus Vid, risk, and and cost in hassle and the numbers got worse. It was sixty one percent thirty nine. Don't come here. Trump even republicans, forty percent of them said they were very worried. That convention would trigger Cova outbreak, and among everybody was sixty percent almost two-thirds. The last number which is would really worry me and trump land is trump who win all. It doesn't have to win. Win It by much, but he needs to win it to carry. Florida was running eight points behind Joe Biden in that county. The Democrats haven't won since Jimmy Carter so this. The Venezuelan foolishness overall trumpism, alienating voters are key in Florida state. I've worked many times in many places. It's like the trump campaign is trying to lose the most important state and if he loses Florida I. don't care what happens to Wisconsin with all due respect Florida so many electoral votes. It would break over so bottom line is the donald is not doing well, and your other messages be wary of polls except this one. Yes No, no, of course this poll because. Trump and Jacksonville's completely accurate. Even have law of being one of the posters is a former axelrod employees in the in the red and blue associates. Combo your friend I'm going to murder his name John Del Sakado del Cicada Man Brilliant Guy Yeah, so he's never wrong, and this poll can't be bottom line is where tolls the two point. Oh there. They don't want that. That convention and it's going to be a political disaster for trump gibbs. The only plug I would make I'm reading a fascinating book. I'm slogging my way through nine hundred some pages of Ron Chernow's book on grant Oh fantastic! Yeah, it's a wonderful book. I would just say apropos your conversation with Mayor Landrieu on on this idea of of confederate statues and heritage You don't have to slog through nine hundred pages. Redo three of any of those pages and you understand that the. The hagiography around confederate generals is for history past. Take all of this stuff down these people were were trying to subvert the united. States of America, they were trying to end the union, they were fighting against the Union army, which in popular parlance today is the United States army So if you need any less in history, and heritage, review pages that book and take all that stuff down. The other thing you learn that book is that President Grant. Sent troops in to put down. The rebellion to reconstruction and it baffles me as to why now other people WanNa take grant. Stafford his down I just say I've always had a reform plan that any locality wants to keep a confederate general statue. If you keep it, you have to build an equal statue next to it of Rommel. There we go problem. Solve what else you got all right, guys. We gotta run. It's good to be with you. Thank you gives it was great. Thanks for having me. That was fun. We'll see again soon that next week. Daughter..

"If if indeed he does lose at as a one more cudgel to Econo-. Push along this argument that the whole election was illegitimate. This real danger right for a for democracy. Well, there's no doubt I. Mean I think a lot of these states that have mayland balloting? Just has to be postmarked by Election Day so by definition. You're getting votes in. That are late so I think short of a landslide It's GonNa be a long few days or could be a long few days while we sift through. Some of this I will say you know it is. It's fascinating to watch. Trump on mail in ballots He is obsessed with how this is going to wreck him. Politically and I I'm I'm still mystified? At this I think Murphy is to I've watched way, too. Many Republican campaigns do really good things with absentee ballots. and the ability to get particularly older voters that don't need to go to the polls to to fill out a ballot. It's also somewhat stunning to me. If you start listing the number of people, the trump administration who vote by mail including by the way the president, the first lady, the press secretary there literally is Kellyanne. Conway voted by mail yet. If you read his twitter feed so to Mike Pence by the way, and apparently he voted from the The dressy listed was the governor's mansion in Indiana which he has an occupied. For about four years they may need to back rent payments and par scale to thousands of maybe there is, there is a fraud. Potentially the campaign manager didn't even vote power scale in two thousand and say you couldn't find a stamp they're on the trunk of his car lifted right, but it's. It's remarkable that this idea that you know. Foreign entities are going to print ballots while these guys are. are licking stamps descend. There's in so I look. I think there's the danger of he's clearly trying to undermine the results and There's no doubt that I mean you know if. It may take several days to figure out the exact nature of WHO's one and why so I think people just need to start took constitutionally prepare themselves for that, so speaking of absentees for those of you who were wondering what John Bolton would have said he been willing to testify before the impeachment committee. We now know because his book is out. A the rumour had happened and in more than four hundred pages. He dishes on the president in a million different ways, and The question is. Murphy. How much credibility does Bolton have here? What is the impact? Of what he wrote and or is this going to be just a? Blip in the in the campaign. You know probably a blip, but a pretty big one. It's another log on the fire. I mean look I think Bolton kind of chickened out for such a hawk, not saying he was going to vote for buying just wouldn't vote for trump, but. I've been skimming through the GALLEYS and I bought the book. I don't have it yet. It does paint another level of massive trump incompetence, and the charges are pretty true and like her. Don't like Bolton. He's a respected guy. In the foreign policy world on the conservative side, and he does not have a reputation for not telling the truth. In fact, reputation is for being too blunt. About his views, not having enough kind of diplomatic. Niceties, so you know I think the content of the book that what it tells you about trump not so much about Bolton is harmful and does build the narrative that we you know you look under the Oval Office. You see a pair of clowns shoes under the desk and that is. That's the problem for with leather soles because they're very hard to where. No? No, no, it's so I i. think you're will hurt I. think it has most of its leaked already that he you know uses American foreign policy is his own scratch pad for sleazy deals in his own self interest, so yeah I think it'll hurt Murphy. Here's my question. Meaning a life well, it's actually simple retinal go ahead. But I want to hear your answer. Is You have all these people who are saying Oh my God? If only would have said this. In late last year or FITA testified in front of the Senate, so much would be different in terms of impeachment. What is your view on whether? Either in the house side or in the Senate side had had with what you have seen in this book. Would it have changed any votes? Let alone the outcome of impeachment I think it would have given cover for maybe a Lisa Murkowski or somebody like that who may be a Susan Collins? to do the right thing which they all knew in their hearts, but they all made a decision of let the voters knock this guy off. We won't. That was both the high principal and the political low-cunning survival tactic, so no I don't think it would have materially changed the impeachment vote. Maybe one vote in the Senate I'll tell you one thing that just as a from a strategist perspective that struck me about the book was the anecdote about him about trump sort of begging chief or a trade agreement. that he needed to because he was afraid that farmers would would would hurt him in the next election and sort of asking him to conspire with him to do this. In order to help, trump get reelected, and honestly as as much of A. Benefit to China as trump has been, I would think she might be want. Eager to see trump, get reelected, but but the the other half of it was that trump said I'll keep my mouth shut about you. sending all these leaguers to To concentration camps if you just give me this trade deal and the whole image of a guy who's standing up there and his campaign is predicated on how Tuffy is on China pleading with the Chinese strongman to to to give them a deal to help him in his. And he'll look the way on human rights. Violations is pretty appalling, and if I were the Biden campaign, I, think I could make something of that. Oh. Totally you know the dictator love again. It's sociopath one. Oh Two! Now it okay well. Let me make everything's transactional. Okay, you get the death camps i. get the boost and soybean experts in Iowa deal. You know. Though I will say that in in Kissinger's memoirs, he talks about meeting with mile and mile. Always would say you know one thing I. Don't trust the American left. I've always. Always worried about him so. The Chinese always have an interesting view of our domestic domestic politics and I. think that must've been while you were such a big fan of Mao. Oh I, you know I! I the best mile quote ever. My dear friend, the late John McCain used to say back in two thousand and the straight talk express. They dumped another huge unlimited bomb on seed. Say well as we used to say in prison by his. It's always darkest just before it goes totally black in the words of great chairman. So yeah, he, he's A. He's an interesting cat. "You know He. He rushed to correct the record after his people straightened out. is that there is a strong and growing Venezuelan community in Florida. And that state's going to be close and his his opposition to Maduro is one of the rallying points for up. Down there. And so he had to put out a correction. In a in a tweet, the you know basically reversing everything he had said in that interview with axios on Friday. Just another example of how. SORTA. At of sinking out of control, the whole deal is here because he fires stuff off. That's completely inconsistent with the strategy of his own camp, but Robert You. He has a strategy. I've never thought that he does. He just follows his instincts which are right at Republican. Primary voters I think there must be a now a patch of dirt in the Oval Office that he just draws his plays up on his backyard football I and I got to assume that the White House switchboard was jammed. Jammed with three Oh. Five area code calls about five minutes after axios posted that interview to walk it back. I agree with you. May I think it is hard to look at what he's doing and think there's a strategy. Yeah, no I think he's you know he doesn't know it, but he is actively losing Florida. And in our last call I've got some new polling data. That is about this Jacksonville. Convention is a complete disaster in a lean our county. They don't want it. We're talking about more the last caller. I it. Some of what's gone on I think you've seen his numbers slip as. The economy has cratered there and the system that the the old entrench system for unemployment benefits which have provided a lot of of important aid for people who have lost jobs. You know it's taking weeks just to get somebody on the phone in Florida to answer a question about claims because they set up a system that they didn't want to work well and now needs to work well so I. I think there's a lot that's rowing against him in a place like speaking of taking weeks acts. What do you think about all this mail in balloting? Because this this is something we know here in California that the country's discovering about what election day could be. It is really worrisome because. What seems clear post wrote a piece about it. This morning is we're not going to have a verdict on. Elect alike because is very likely. That is very likely that mail-in ballots will still be being counted, and they'll they generally they're generally a I. think in California two weeks of counting. Ask sometimes. 'cause people hold their absentee and vote 'em late. So there's this huge surge that comes in the last four five days this Oh real problem in an environment where you've got the president already raising issues about the legitimacy of the election. You know with trump. We've said it before here. They're only two verdicts. He wins, or the election was stolen. There's no third option and he's GonNa. Use the delay in ballot counting as a If if indeed he does lose at as a one more cudgel to Econo-. Push along this argument that the whole election.

Just what I was watching the crowd not fill in I was reminded of this sort of cold sweat I broke into on that trip I. Think we ended up with two hundred and fifty thousand. From trump from the beginning when that first cruise ship was off the west coast, and he didn't WanNa disembark people because he didn't want it to the stats, it was an x ray end of the old scam. Tell the accountant bend the Pencil a little bit any still doing it with a pandemic trying to manipulate the numbers of this testing control. Yeah, but here's the thing Murphy it's. It's one thing to do it and we all know he's doing. It's another thing to acknowledge that you're doing. Let's listen to a little of that now. Famous sound. Testing is a double edged sword. We've tested now twenty five million people. It's. Probably Twenty million people more than anybody else. Germany's a lot. South Korea's that allow they call me. They said the job you're doing. "Understand what you said. I'm telling you what he meant to say. Which was that? Obviously if anybody was unduly alarmed for whatever reason we We would apologize for that and I hope that my remarks remarks of the people at the CDC and sectarian polygon have appropriately cleared up What he meant to say just to be clear on this for all the media talking heads you think. Biden has a better overview or grasp of. What's going on right now. During the crisis I he flees trump's plan almost at times word for word or principal for principal at a minimum and then when Biden was the actual vice president which with constitutional powers and authority under the GOP. Executive Office of the President is the number two executive in the country. He blew it so badly during the swine flu. That depress in that room. Did you catch it? Three quarters of the way through Gioja. Here we're actually laughing at the White House. Press Press spokesman Robert Gibbs trying to clean up the mess in the Paddock Biden. Created folks rewind that to watch it on Youtube. Hit the back bud. Tap IN A COUPLE OF TIMES. It goes back ten seconds each. They are actually laughing. That was Jake Tapper for questioning Robert Gibbs. They're laughing at him. But yeah this is the guy you want in charge. You must be kidding me. Couple other quick points showing you the media nonsense going on here here is a CNN commentator. Who was supposed to be some kind of law enforcement specialist? I don't know how long she was in the FBI. But I've had back and forth with our twitter. She blocked me which is probably a smart move candidly because nonsense was getting so ridiculous. I was calling around all the time but this is a tweet again by CNN. He went talk about against dopey stupid information out there. Just semantic confusion when a time of crisis here is Asha Rang Papa. Forgive me if I'm wrong gap. Forgive me if you're saying your name it's unintentional but at Asha rang rank APPA. Who Says Biden is not reading from a teleprompter his voice modulator. And he's not a sedated Zombie taking a shot at trump by the way he understands the problem. He actually cares hat tip. Brian Silvija at the daily wire. If you're watching on Youtube you get the joke right now. If you're listening at home you don't need to get the joke because there's a photo included at the bottom of this tweet where there are actual teleprompters in the photo that Ryan so Vedra had circle for Asha who tweeted out. Quote Biden is not reading from a teleprompter with a photo of actual teleprompters in the photo. I am not kidding again. This is our media right. Now when they're not advocating and advancing how powerful Biden is although he flees totally trump's plan. They're actively propagating Chinese propaganda and otherwise totally completely unhelpful in a time of crisis. Some good news you know. God Bless Tom. Hanks and everyone who's fallen victim to the corona virus not just celebrities. And we're you know. We're not elitists your Tom. Hanks Child God like all of us are and so is his wife Rita Wilson. I told you yesterday Tom Hanks could be doing us. An enormous public service here if he recovers from this and puts out the information and shows us. It's not a death sentence to serious threat but it's not a serious threat series of tank. I retire economy and put the world into a global recession. That will be a serious threat. My wife picked this out to Paula. Thank you Tom Hanks. I mean if we're putting out this picture yeah look great. Looks like it'll be bad either. He's there with his wife. Rita Wilson. They both have hats on basically putting out today. We're doing all right. We've been taking good care of ladies and gentlemen remember. I used to say when I ran for office the problem. The Republicans have talked about policies. They don't make things bleed and what I meant by that is they. Don't make things personal. The Democrats not use emotion Republicans. We don't we walk into a methadone. Clinic is my friend. Brian always used to say and we want to argue about the laffer curve. That's great but that's not that person's problem right there. They're addicted to drugs. They don't WanNa talk about the laffer curve and marginal income tax rates. I'm sorry we have been entirely ineffective pre donald trump who relishes and using emotion in tying emotion to our arguments. I'm not saying we should news facts. I'm saying sometimes to get through to people. Emotion should be the tip of the spear things are more emotional when you know the people involved always by default. This is common sense. God forbid someone in. Your family gets ill with this. It'll be more personally you. If they recover the severity of the disease will be more personal to it was bad but we got through it. Ladies and gentlemen that applies to celebrities and sports figures to. We feel like we know them. We've seen their movies Scotch. I was watching Tom. Hanks Bosom Buddies thirty forty years ago. I don't even know how long ago that was. You feel like you know if he recovers from this and is no worse for the wear. He will have done the nation of big service by showing everyone. This is not a death sentence. All right I got a lot more news. I'm starved heavy in corona but obviously is a big Newsweek all right. Let's get to my second sponsor day again i. They are a sponsor they paid for advertising. It's clear but I specifically asked them to advertise these few weeks because I feel like an always have preparedness matters. It's not a talking point new advertisers. We have were. You know we sell out almost all the time but this is a company. I Love Working. With Ladies and gentlemen Patriot supply this week. We woke up to this really bad news. A spike in some viral cases in Italy's market losing a dramatic portion of value. A lot of this happened overnight. The warning signs were there since December as I just read in that last thing and then this thing exploded ladies and gentlemen knew about emergencies. They wouldn't be emergencies. We'd mitigate them and be prepared the thing about emergencies they punch you in the face. When you're not looking well be ready. Have Your hands up..

"Or one one million three hundred sixteen in person and early male votes In the most populous fifteen counties. Democrats vote shattered Republican Early Village. Which is no big deal because there isn't really a big republican contests in Texas right now. It's just the Democratic presidential primary but over a million votes cast in Texas and that happened before South Carolina remember. South Carolina was on Saturday. There hasn't been early voting on Saturday or Sunday. And this comes out at nine twenty five this morning so it doesn't include any sort of Monday voting and there is no Monday voting Because the elections tomorrow so all of the cumulative early vote in Texas over a million people have already voted Bernie Sanders. According to the Bulls had big momentum in Texas and so that suggests Berry. Sater's may have good night in Texas and that's not good news Joe Biden or the Democrats. Now there's a lot of speculation this morning that Pete. Bhuj wants to be the Democratic vice presidential pick for Joe Biden. We'll see if that happens. I want to go to Robert Gibbs. Robert Gibbs was Barack Obama's Predator he was on one of the Sunday shows talking about what Biden needs to. Do I think he the South? I mean it's possible. North Carolina will be the toughest you look at the numbers you just. And you've got Bloomberg at fifteen percent right at that viability line and so does last night's win and that momentum push a couple of points up for Vice President Biden and push Bloomberg down a couple of points and so do do you do you force that one on one contest through viability. I think Joe Biden strategy has to survive the big states of California and Texas and wake up Wednesday morning as the sole competitor to Bernie Sanders. But he's going to be because Bloomberg has not bought a bunch of ads but Bloomberg wants to do a three minute block on the networks. Abc CBS and NBC on the Corona Virus. Believe it or not it will get to the virus. There is news on the Corolla virus. It's just I I've talked about it so much there other things that I want to get to today out of the gate and we will get to the girl of Irish Duffin and right now I mean Super Tuesday is tomorrow. It is a big deal. And you're you're you're going to have the Democrats out there bashing each other and trying to find ways to to separate themselves from the pack. You'RE GOING TO HAVE ELIZABETH WARREN OUT THERE. Trying to make a case for herself even as she looks like. May Lose Massachusetts. One more from Chris Olsen with Chris Wallace from over the weekend. What does polling say about? How tough it will be to sell. Socialism not communism but socialism to a majority of Americans. So Fox News is owned polling from just this week shows it only about three out of ten. Voters say that they would be comfortable with someone who is socialist Being President That they only a third of America is okay with socialism but socialism is defined very differently for younger voters versus older voters. Katie was mentioning. I think that in terms of the word socialism. Lots of voters don't like it but the idea of the government providing very extensive healthcare benefits etc. A lot of voters are actually much more on on board with that. I would not count out the ideological places. American voters may be willing to go. You know it's also interesting. In our voter analysis Fox's voter analysis Bernie Sanders one among people both black and white under forty five. He got clobbered among blacks and whites over forty five. He did black voters in South Carolina did not like Bernie Sanders at all because they WANNA be trump and they're still this that Bernie Sanders says. Here's a one more here. Msnbc on what a consolidation in the field means for Sanders. I.

"For the last couple of nights on prime time television and extending who knows how long jeopardy has jeopardy. It's a game show answer in the form of question staged the greatest of all time tournament and I think this is a case where the contestants really do live up up to that title. Brad Rutter the all time winningest contestant in jeopardy history Ken Jennings who blazed a trail of glory when they changed the rules to allow people to win for as long as they win and James Holes. How're all face off in an interestingly formatted and much harder version one of your favorite answer and question show joining me? Now are returning champions or a returning champion. Justin Peters who writes for slate he was well. I'll read you the headline of one of my favorite articles. He's ever written. I got a second chance on who wants to be a millionaire. Last year I became one of the biggest losers in gameshow history going back with terrifying. Justin knows gameshows. Hello Justin. It's me and Lizzie leary. Who is the host of of slates? podcast what next. TB An old friend of mine and a jeopardy contestant. Hello Lizzy Hello Mike. I'm jeopardy contestant into jeopardy real jeopardy honest to God civilian jeopardy tell me about your jeopardy nece I was on Washington power player jeopardy in two thousand twelve thing. I don't know if it's still living but it was a thing. It's like celebrity jeopardy but for politics and media people a- Ah so if Washington is like Hollywood for ugly people what's power play jeopardy jeopardy refer. I know you were on it. You're better looking than almost everyone else else. On jeopardy isn't on television aired on television. Yeah Yeah in twenty you play your opponents. I played against Chris. Matthews and Robert Gibbs now Chris Matthews doesn't like anyone else to get a word in edgewise. Did that affect gameplay. I mean I think it affected the banter with Alex and getting and Gibbs. He's a former White House. Press Secretary Presser because he's pretty smart smart smart guy. And how did your go. I want to be clear that going into final jeopardy. I was winning by a lot too. So I'm they're on the the measurements that matter. Yeah I was. I may not have the best bedding strategy. Fine did you get final jeopardy right we we all got it wrong. Oh Oh I had like a slightly more aggressive than Robert who liked bet very little dinky amount that might have been the best bedding strategy because you had to cover all in right and you just have to Eke past you. So in that case actually the person in second place will almost always have the advantage. I had to cover like what if he goes all in and gets to this point. Okay and just for like one real. I don't know horrible footnote. The answer her the question the question was who is Bill Cosby we all whiffed. Oh Wow yeah. What was the question? The you mean the answer. I don't know what this celebrity won an emmy. The Mark Twain Prize and the Spin Garn metal right updated today serving garden given by the end. Tapie we all look like a bunch of really clueless white people which we were well and if you updated for today and is now serving ten to thirty in Philadelphia Correctional Institution almost unfair. And just do you watch jeopardy all the time Yeah as much as I can that I'm a man who has not but yeah a little bit. Yeah you guys excited for this show so exciting. What about it is just such a good idea? I mean jeopardy occupies Very unique place in sort of Pantheon of game shows and it's champions more so than any other game show are sort of known. People know them James Wholesaler throughout the first pitch at Wrigley Field. Glass Year So it is just a cool idea to take the three quantifiably most most successful players in the show's history. Pit Him against each other. Yeah and also they do tournaments of champions at tournaments of all time champions and you could say it's like the rock band who keeps claiming claiming that there never touring again and then does but with Alex tra- back having pancreatic cancer. This is going to come to an end and sadly it's going to come to an end fairly early soon so when they say this is the greatest of all time champion. This is the greatest of all time. It is like they were all wearing purple. Ribbons is that for him. Yeah let's talk a little bit about Alex Trebek's I understand that he. I have critiqued him over the years. I think that especially in the QA in a sections. I mean let's unite. QNA's I mean he's a game show. Host is not an interviewer and he it comes across the he doesn't care with his to go to sentiments. which are good for you and I'm not going? There says that one a lot so yeah I understand like what he does is a skill skill and he's obviously good at it but the fact that he is battled cancer and came back from it. And there's this this whole outpouring of Love I. I think it's deserved. I can't I can't find fault in that jeopardy fans are loving and miss already missing al now not at all. I think it's okay. "One. I'm Marco balletti. Oh, it started out as a breeze turned into a disaster for the Mets as they're now in the ninth inning in Arizona with that. Let's check in again with our own Coleman. All right. Marco repeat after me. Nothing is easy for the New York Mets. They had a four nothing in a five one lead in the game for nothing with Jacob degrom throwing a shutout and then five to one after Dom Smith, NASA home run to lead off the eighth and it's not five five. The Diamondbacks scored four in the bottom of the eighth inning while of that too, against juries familiar, but Robert Gibbs Selman was the ultimate villainy gave up a two run home and Adam Jones tied the game. You're someone taking over eight five three game familiar gave up a couple of runs while he was charged with three but gave up a sacrifice line to make it five three before he left and then Casella and give up the homerun Jones five five right now top nine one out. Nobody on and the closer for the deep in gray colony. Fitch. Well last night has one out here in the ninth vote then. Has imploded once again, we'll see what develops for the Mets. They did get an RBI double from Peter Lonzo and the first two run over by Todd Frazier. The third also RBI single Tomas Nido in that the fourth inning as well. And then the Smith on run is third home run of the year. And it was a massive shot, the centerfield made a five one looked like it was going to be easy for the Mets. But like I said, nothing is he by five right now. Top nine here chase the markup. All right. Thanks, a lot Addy. Meanwhile for the Antes seemingly a new hero every night but one thing that's been a constant at the down bullpen..

"I think led by then press Secretary, Robert Gibbs that Obama because we're going to be in L A should be on Leno. And so in this big scheduling meeting in the Roosevelt room that was like, you know, some campaign people like myself, and Gibbs and Elissa and David Axelrod and a bunch of like new people who had hired who had not worked on the campaign, but were you know, sort of more traditional Washington Democrats when Gibbs proposed Obama going on Leno. You would have thought gives proposed Obama different delivering a press conference with his pants down. Like it was like he can't do that. He can a president cannot go on a late night talk show that is that would demean the office. I mean now Donald Trump's president. So seems like there was unwell entered. I think there was quite a bit of criticism from Republicans and the denizens of Washington. About Obama doing too many late night shows when he actually did it there were there. There's a lot of hand wringing. Yeah. It was interesting. The other thing I thought was interesting about Jill LeBron's announcement is one of the things I think is important in a multi-candidate field is the short term description of your candidacy, right like candidate acts is so and so are Kennett Xs running because of why right in like how like in that's probably like a two hundred forty character element. So I was really interested. When the clip of gillibrand making the announcement of exploratory committee went out and all the press, and I got all these notifications on my phone from the post times, etc. CNN, etc. That were curious in Jilib Senator Kirsten gillibrand a leader of the hashtag me to move a leader of the metoo movement or a strong advocate for women's rights announces she's running for president. And which is interesting that she has a very clear vote for bet her campaign team, fix that was exactly what they want exclusive a very clear definition of who she is in what she's running for in a way that will be away much a surprising number of Americans consume that information because it's what is far as they will read. We'll be the notification they get on their phone or they see in the social media field. And I think I think that's something a lot of have to think about which is sort of the it's the short term answer of YM running. It's not the Roger Mudd Ted Kennedy like sort of explanation of it. But it is like who are you? Right. Like, why are you different than the rest of these people? And I think to her credit she has a real. She had a very specific identity that came through in that announcement. Well, it's interesting, right. Because it's not just a you know multi-candidate field. But it's a field that you know, for the first time we'll have multiple women among the top tier of contenders for the nomination. And so it's interesting because you know, you're gonna have Warren probably comma, Harris Jila brand potentially Amy klobuchar Tulsi, Gabbard and. In Jila brand seems to be the first woman candidate running who is you know, intentionally focusing on women's issues and issues of women's issues and family issues. And so she talks a lot about an inch and throughout her career in the Senate has worked hard on issues of sexual assault. She sort of took that on in the military a couple years ago sh she's been four paid family leave and universal family leave for quite a long time. Now like you said as as she sent out her announcement materials, she talked about the metoo movement. So she's very explicitly identifying these issues in a way that I think, you know, Elizabeth Warren wasn't as explicit about that when she announced, and it'll be interesting to see how Harris or Clova char take these issues on as well..
