"I put on my first shot of madonna. And then i have one more shot in two weeks and i put up the ladder. Cortisone treatment on. No if it's already take advil and more general jobs so let's go to you dr mark signer and you may or may not feel like you can answer greg's question directly if you can great but also how do people find out more information about interactions between other medications or treatments and vaccines sure. Quick questions. i might try to answer the second one i. That's one week quite a bit about taking things. Like advil or non steroidal tunnel around the time of a vaccine. What we typically recommend to people is that if you take those renaissance regularly for a chronic condition that you should continue them the vaccine to solve should necessarily have stopped taking them but for pretty much everyone else so if you don't normally take those medicines don't take them preemptively before the vaccine just because you're worried you might have side effects go ahead get the vaccine and if you do have side effects are significantly Bothersome headache smile. Just fevers where you feel like those medicines can be helpful. it's perfectly fine to take them Participants in these vaccine trials did take them and we've seen high efficacy in these studies despite their use so we don't tell people to avoid them after the fact if they have symptoms just not to take them preemptively before they take the vaccine because of fear of side effects. Sorry excuse me in terms of other interactions with the vaccines I think it's important to note that at least a pfizer in the madonna. Vaccines really don't have too many components in them other than other than some Basically fat particles in particles better already in our body and so we haven't really seen much of any evidence at all of those vaccines interacting with other medicines and so we typically would tell most patients to talk to your doctor. If you have specific questions about any medicines that you're taking Before around a vaccine. So i don't want him to give any specific recommendations but for the most part these vaccine don't appear to interact with most medicines. So dr darren. I wanna stay on this question from the caller for a minute. because Dr snyder just talked about not taking something prophylactically. 'cause you worried about side effects i know we do. The public. health goal is for as many people to get vaccinated as possible. So maybe you can address the concern about side effects. What what are the real concerns. What are we really seeing. How severe those side effects. How often do they happen etcetera. Yeah i mean a lot of people are nervous about the side effects from these vaccines and they have to be honest. I was nervous before my second shot to. I didn't want to be up all night with shaking chills and sweats. And in fact. I wasn't and i came to work the next day. And i'm just one story but i think we hear about the people who feel really sick after that vaccine When we talk and they aren't the majority they are the minority. But when i talked to those people they say you know. I told myself. This is evidence that the vaccine is working. This is evidence that the vaccine is wrapping up my immune system so that it will recognize the virus and it was fine and it was over in a day and i'm and i feel bulletproof now And so it does come with the territory It's probably not as bad as you think it's going.

"Designed clinical trials protected people from getting sick with covid eighty five percent of the time. We're better. there were no deaths in any of the arms and people who got the vaccine any of these studies. I think their exceptional vaccines. I think we need to get as many people vaccinated as quickly as possible. And however the distribution plans worked it allowed to happen. I think we should support. And there doesn't seem to me any clear distinction between getting one versus the other because they all were quite well in. They're all quite safe. All right. lying calls are still coming in one. Eight hundred four two three eight two five five to get on the line with doctors. Mark cider sheera doron. We've got richard from back bay richard. What's your question there. can you hear me. I can richard. Go herman young. I curious to know. If i've had both my shots whether it's pfizer or madonna and the boosters recommended doesn't matter which i get. What can i get a pfizer. If i had madonna. Or if i had mcgurn is okay to get visor booster. Thanks for the question. Richard and dr drone alaska just to start by answering where we are on the idea of boosters from a and pfizer and then richards question about what it matter which one you got yeah. We're still a ways away from any kind of plan that might involve vaccinated. People getting re vaccinated boosted different vaccine at this point the companies that make the vaccines are planning for a variety of scenarios related to immune evading variants So they're working on boosters. They're working on different formulations There are no recommendations for anybody to receive a additional vaccines when they're done with their one or two shot series and more recommendations will be forthcoming if that becomes the case right now the cdc recommends not mixing and matching at all. If you're doing a two shot series but we'll have to see what happens down the road. Hopefully none of that. We'll come to be necessary at all. And before i go back to the phones i'd love to just hear one of you talk a little bit more about as the new variants come. Will there be a regular race to adapt the current scenes. Kind of like there is every year. The flu shot has a variation every year depending on what we think the dominant strain is going to be. Do we have any idea what to expect from that perspective yet. Maybe stay with me. Dr darren that you know the the this coronavirus and others. They're they're not really like the flu shot. They don't mutate quickly. We don't expect to have to adapt the vaccine on an annual basis in that same way We were so excited to see the janssen. Johnson johnson vaccine efficacy against the variance in south america and south africa that it was still Essentially one hundred percent effective against hospitalization and death and with data like that. It's likely that we wouldn't need any change in the formulation booster against variance But time will tell all right. That's encouraging let's go back to the phones. We've got greg in dedham greg. What's your question. Hi i have a question about medication. both Specific in more general one I'm lined up to take a cortisone shot of my spine with a light of kane. "Three eight two five to ask your corona virus or coronavirus vaccine question. We've got mary on the line in franklin. Mary go ahead. Hi taking my call. I'm wondering how to interact with my father-in-law are how to visit him. Now that he is fully m. Nine he lives alone and he has He only sees his immediate family. And usually it's one on one. Do i have to wear continued ornament. Mary let me just ask you. Have you have vaccination yet no. Okay so dr darren to you. Yeah so this is a really important question. Because there hasn't been a lot of guidance for people about what to do once they're immunized or vaccinated but the cdc is planning to release something this week so There may be a lot of information there that you'll be able to digest but the way i advise people is Again risk is going to be on a continuum and you're always going to be able to improve that risk by wearing a mask and keeping you know six feet or so of distance outside well ventilated space. All of those things will continue to decrease your best because vaccination is definitely not a hundred percent although it's excellent and the fact that the more vulnerable person in your situation is the vaccinated one that adds a level of protection as well It's better that the vulnerable person vaccinated as opposed to the vulnerable person being unvaccinated and less vulnerable person being vaccinated. Certainly if all people are accented in a group that's the safest situation So safest outside with masks with distance vaccinated And then everything else is sort of some level of risk but much much less than in the days before vaccination existed. This is an ask the doctors on radio boston. We're taking your corona virus. Questions with dr shira darren of time medical center and dr mark cider of massachusetts general hospital. We've got veto on the line. From the north end. The the number by the way is eight hundred four two three eight two five veto. Go i thank you. I'm just wondering about the context of the reporting of the numbers. Like i realized that numbers are going down total numbers but never much comment about the severity of these cases. For it was about thirty. Two thousand current cases less than eight hundred hospital. That tells me about two two and a half percent recovering at home. It just seems that.

Senate Republican leader blocking Democrats push for an immediate vote in Washington on President Trump's demand that Americans get some bigger. Coronavirus relief checks. Pressure is growing on the GOP after the president spent days insisting on boosting the checks from 600 to $2000. The house voted overwhelmingly yesterday to do that, But on the Senate floor, Mitch McConnell blocked the Democrats demands for an immediate vote. Give Americans this Money as Massachusetts is, Ed Markey and others insisted a Senate willing to spend hundreds of billions on defense also can help citizens afford food. That is a moral failure for our country. Even as more GOP senator said they'll back the bigger checks. McConnell gave almost no indication of his plans. It comes after the Senate joined the House today, overriding Governor Charlie Baker's veto of that legislation. "Nineteen and had a hearing on September twenty four, and was voted out favorably voted out of committee favorably, so I can understand the concern that this entire omnibus bill has not full blown hearing, but we also have to recognize the practical aspect of this time. The legislative session ends on July thirty first. There is only so much time to be able. Able for the Senate to pass something the house to pass something for the conference committee to come together, and put something forward then be passed by both houses, and then give it to the governor who has ten days at Sei if he's been assigned, inventively doesn't come back to those bodies, and then get it done by the end of the legislative session, so there are these time constraints that exist, and just because this is the first piece of legislation that gets introduced and dealt with in this moment to be responsive doesn't mean it will be. The last were hopeful that as we continue to advocate and push that there can be brought a reformed church. One of the part of the backdrop over the last several days is this bill has been taken up in the state? Senate has been the lobbying that happens the positioning. The phone calls the discussions that happen from all the parties involved and I'm thinking about advocates for reform and advocates for police officers. Just illustration just now I gave you what Larry Calderoni said yesterday you push back and said you know there's still a lot of history there. He would probably come back and say yes, but we haven't had anything like Minneapolis. My point in all of this is there is more work to be done. Is there a path forward that gets police reform bill fully passed and signed in the Commonwealth that can be supported and endorsed sufficiently by all the parties involved. I think so, but it also requires level of truth telling to happen. One of the things is that the police advocates have not been. Honest in their opposition to this they've they're going around telling people that they will lose their homes if qualified immunity is. Restricted or limited in any way, which is just not true, officers are indemnified. Police will always claim. The Sky is falling. When there are ever, there's introduction of progressive reforms and time after time reform after reform, we found that not to true, and so certainly there needs to be people coming together to the table, but we cannot lose sight of reason that. That there's a conversation about police reform. Nobody's talking about overhaul the way the fire department does its job because people are not victims of violence, especially in communities of color and black communities in particular because of the way, fire departments do their job to worry talk about what's happening in leasing, but that's what has caused. Some cannot lose sight of that. Now, House Speaker Robert deleo says he hopes to have a virtual hearing on the Senate bill this week. Do you expect similar reforms in a house version when it comes forward more or less? We're. We're hoping that it has similar reforms or even more progressive reforms, and we all did..
