A Closer Look at the Black-Jewish Congressional Caucus

"January and February have been full of commemorative moments for both the black and Jewish Communities. The birthday of Martin Luther King Junior the death anniversary of Anne Frank International Holocaust remembrance and Black History Month we sat down individually with three founders of the Black Jewish congressional caucus democratic congresswoman Brenda Lawrence Democratic congresswoman. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin to discuss why the caucus exists the issues. They think it will address and why it's important for black and Jewish leaders to work together. Not Apart I I asked about the original purpose of the Black Jewish congressional caucus how that purpose has evolved since its conception and what the main issues the caucus to address we. I posed the question to chief. Founder Representative Brenda Lawrence when I went to my colleagues. And ask them if they would be interested in forming a black Jewish Caucus. Civically this administration. I have seen an uptick in divisiveness and Rachel tension and also hate crimes been reported as validated being on Increasing and we have such a strong and long history of lack American and the Jewish community coming together in those times when our country lost its way the Jewish community came to the support of the black community during the civil rights movement. We have shared experience between the Holocaust. Slavery of being people oppressed by no other reason except for who we are and We know and we feel uniquely the stereotypes in the tension that are often placed on us as black and Jewish citizens of this country. And we are here in Congress to write laws and policies to ensure quality to make sure that we're forcing the civil rights of this country and we should be having a unique conversation around this and I can tell you I was so impressed with the support and willingness in a bipartisan way to form the caucus so what are the main issues that the caucus hopes to address. Well I want to know that as we look at hate crimes and discrimination as anti Semitic. It's racist xenophobic Often go back to Martin Luther King. Our unity is born of our common struggle for centuries not only to rid ourselves bandage but to make oppression of any people by others impossible so when we plan or what. Our jackets is our is that we will make sure that we are uniquely informed. We are aware of these incidents and policies and situations where we see Racism not being addressed properly or being able or being nurtured and that we can pass policies and enforce loss through our justice system to ensure we're holding true to one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all next. We asked Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz during the civil rights movement jewish-americans lent critical support to the N. Double ACP and fought alongside. Dr Martin Luther King Junior to challenge racial segregation in public accommodations and black leaders have stood with the Jewish community following the tragic shootings. At synagogues in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and POW California Joakim Prinz german-american Rabbi and refugee of Nazi. Germany represented the Jewish community as an organizer during the nineteen sixty three march on Washington. So that history is long and and significant and so the the The Black Jewish caucus is really important for us to be able to to retie those binds. And make sure that we can work on the modern day issues that are of mutual concern to both communities are purposes to assemble leaders to learn from one. Another advocate for joint concerns Regardless of party we believe And we exist because all partners are committed calling out hate and racism and discrimination anti-semitism and xenophobia whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head and you know our alliance in the Black Jewish caucus is really important so that we can work to honor and strengthen and safeguard the bond of our communities that have been developed in the struggle for equality in America. Then we asked representative Lee Zeldin. There is a need to better bridge the gap between the Jewish community and the black community and understanding a long rich history of the the black community fighting for on behalf of with the Jewish Committee and community and vice versa This isn't a new concept for us to be working closely and back in World War. Two was seven sixty first tank battalion. Bed Liberated gun skirt skin and God almost four hundred medals for their heroics their efforts and it was Jewish members who stood side by side with the black community during the civil rights push and some actually ended up giving up their lives in that fight for Justice and equality fast forward to two thousand and nineteen. This was announced in June But we were talking to each other about it for a few months leading up to that. Brenda Lawrence Really did a fantastic job taking a lead initiative. The American Jewish Committee was also influential and helpful with that. 'cause how has it evolved since then? I would say that more and more people have expressed interest in being part of it so it's become a bigger and it's allowed us to build a stronger network and we've seen a divide close But the challenges still exist and we just had a Hanukkah in two thousand nineteen that was marked by violent antisemitic attacks in and around the New York City area and some of the people who were paying attention to it saw that the individuals who are carrying out the attacks weren't neo Nazis. They weren't they weren't white supremacists. They weren't a radical Islamic extremists. And they they weren't Politically motivated it was a different dynamic than what you might have been talking about in June of two thousand nineteen You had some people who are talking about the the black Israel The Hebrew Israelite Movement But then others within that movement rejecting the acts carried out up in Munsey attacking the rabbi's home as well as attacking The the Jewish Kosher Supermarket in New Jersey. So in a way if you ask me how it evolved part of. It's been positive With all of the outreach in all of the new relationships and part of it has been an added challenge added friction as we witnessed what happened in the Hanukkah two thousand nineteen and struggling with figuring out how to as quickly as possible Deal with that next. We asked how the black community can support Jewish concerns and how the Jewish community can more forcefully advocate for African American issues. Here's what Linda Lawrence had to say. Yes the Jewish community has in the past as as you know during the civil rights movement Jewish communities one of our strongest legal and justice advocate on the judicial system but it is lifting the voice of Black America Black Lives Matter Institutional that is. Our biggest challenge institutional racism when it comes to the education when it comes to housing when it comes to the criminal justice lending voice to the black community and pointing out those things that are wrong and the black community. What we can do is make sure that we are calling out the stereotypes against the Jewish community. Then we heard from Debbie Wasserman Schultz. There is really some significant overlap that particularly with the violence and the Anti Semitism and bigotry. That is being hurled at our communities not just with these horrendous murders but with social media attacks and you know protest against our communities and discriminatory actions so we have a lot on our plate. Initially that I think are in my view important for our communities mutually and you know because the Caucasus really in its infancy as we mature and move down the road. Get to know one another issues that you know. We can be across the aisle and across our communities and the caucus focused on trying to prioritize the issues that the individual communities find important and lastly representative Lee Zeldin. Well we always spent a lot of times so far I talking about the way. The Jewish community has been targeted with not just Anti Semitic thoughts but antisemitic actions and violent and some cases of its cost people their lives. So you know the the ways for the the black community to identify what? The top issues are Right now for the Jewish community. We're seeing it. Play out really in the national news and the national debate for the Black Community The there still is racism in our country in many respects and I think that teaching tolerance and and understanding ensuring that policies aren't discriminatory that individuals have the ability to achieve the American dream and shouldn't be held back just because they might be someone of color or they might be practicing a different religion like Judaism. That discrimination racism still exists in our country. We saw it play out not too long ago on. Long Island where I'm from the first. Congressional district of New York is on the east end of Long Island There was a story that was in. Newsday was an investigative report of members of the real estate industry discriminating against people of color who were trying to find housing trying to Purchase a home to achieve the American dream. And unfortunately that's an exception and not the norm. It's rare But the response has been robust with investigations. That have been lost. launched as well as the real estate industry themselves Self policing Each Other To educate but educate each other and to push out of their industry people who are discriminating against Black individuals who are trying to own a home and then she the American dream so I would say as far as identifying some of the biggest needs right now of the black community. I would say that just like it was easy to identify anti-semitism as a top needed needs to get addressed for the Jewish community. I would say. Racism is something that's very prevalent and still needs to be addressed absolutely with regards to the black community next. We asked what issues of mutual concern? The caucus can address. Here's what Brenda Lawrence had to say. I think it's extremely important. That the black and Jewish community allow the history of oppression for either of our people to be forgotten. You know there's some people who like to say the Holocaust didn't happen. There are people who say You know black people so each other to slavery. So what's the big deal? We cannot allow the history that as horrific as it is to be forgotten. And that's something else that I think that we uniquely can do as citizens of this country and as survivor and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Right now we have a really significant challenge around white supremacy and the rise of white supremacists in United States white supremacist increasingly targeted and killed large groups of people in recent years because of their race or religion in the United States in Twenty fifteen we had nine African Americans who were murdered murdered by a gunman whose name I won't mention at the Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church Mother Emmanuel in Charleston South Carolina. Because and this is quoting the murderer. He knew that it would be a place to get a small amount of black people in one area. You had Robert Bowers. Last year yelled antisemitic. Slurs before he opened fire and killed eleven worshippers at the tree of life synagogue in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and that was the deadliest attack on the Jewish community. American history you've had attacks on mosques where insecurity has had to be increased after fifty one people were massacred to mosques in New Zealand. So we have a very current urgent challenge with bigotry. Anti-semitism white supremacists who are engaging in in deadly violence and so that's at the security and houses of fighting. Anti Semitism and bigotry is Is really the top of our current list of issue the very tragic areas of mutual concern for for both communities and and I would also add Particularly because most of these crimes perpetrated with guns the Jewish community in the African American community have have really come together around making sure that we can close all the loopholes that allow people who shouldn't have a gun under federal law here in the US be able to get them Now that issue is unfortunately not bipartisan. I was just getting ready to say. That's gotta be bipartisan. doesn't mean that That the hawks On Black Jewish relations can't take it on

We're proud of that is the thing if they don't they don't even focus on that stuff at all. No, no, no. And holder later qualified his statement by saying that he was not encouraging people to do anything. Inappropriate. See? Here's what's weird. Okay. So we started out talking about Donald Trump's liar's paradox statement, which I thought was hilarious. Okay. I'm being it's funny. You don't need to defend Donald Trump for saying what he said because he would say, I he was telling you the truth, although he was lying and same time or he said that he lied. It's just an amazing statement. I don't think anybody I think it's amazing. I just love word play. See his situation with Donald Trump is he's being held to the fire regarding race in insensitively. His detractors are going as far as saying that he is anti semitic. And he was blamed by the media as being responsible for the recent synagogue shootings in Pennsylvania. Accused Pittsburgh synagogue killer Robert Bowers. Was a raving lunatic. He was nuts. He was anti-semitic white nationalist supremacist. Whatever word you want to throw in. There is word play. Again. He said that he despised Donald Trump hated Donald Trump. So here lies the confusion again and the paradox. That's being spun. When you got the strategic text in the media manipulation going in one direction. It does not compute. Does it a Trump hater does something that we say Trump is responsible for doesn't make sense? Okay. So here's the schism. As a strategic texted media manipulation does not give the proper context. So they've been saying all along that Trump is Hitler. And those who support him are antisemitic or worse. This doesn't commute a compute. It's like no bad error. It's like Star Trek Matt era. It's becoming terrifyingly obvious. Did blaming the president for anything and everything bad happens in our country is not just fashionable among the establishment, it's becoming a requirement, and they'll do anything, including spin paradoxes in order to confuse people. And so what do they do? The best thing to do is to be negative about it. And the sickening solution is to well. I'm gonna go watch Fox News. The no, no, no, no, no. That's that's basically defending the other baffling strategic context, and this creates massive confusion, and it goes back and forth and back in the fourth. The media will tell everyone that they're not the enemy of the people, but they are doing. Something close to being criminal. And they are they're hiding behind the freedom of the press in order to continue the bending and shaping of language and couching all weaponized and catalyzing words industry TJ context, which has been called dog whistling which has been called a paradoxical liar's paradox. It's unspeakable what he's not said. It is what is said. And what he's retracted and not retracted each word play to demonize, what is perceived as a domestic adversary. Basically. It's the enemy. It's a way of of of creating the other. And we do this to enemies, we do this to perceived enemies. Go to Chris in Oregon. Hi, Chris you're on ground zero..

"With Gregg Hersholt, I'm MandA factor. The antisemitic truck driver accused of gunning down eleven people at the Pittsburgh synagogue has now entered a not guilty plea this morning to federal charges that could put him on death row Robert Bowers was arraigned in a brief court appearance this morning one day after a grand jury issued a forty four count indictment. The chargers with murder hate crimes. Obstructing the practice of religion and other crimes. President Trump began a six day seven state campaign tour yesterday in Fort Myers, Florida voted. Then what the hell am I doing here tonight? ABC's? Karen Travers with us from the White House. Good morning. Karen? Good morning. Did the president to hit on the the usual themes? Yeah, he did. And and expect him to over this next six day blitz. The heads to ten more rallies over seven more states to try and rally Republican voters last night that that was a great moment where he was asking who had already voted in Florida, a very critical battleground state competitive races for the Senate and the governor's house, and of course, a lot of house races. But the president noting that this is a state where early voting is very popular. How many of you voted when it sounded like everybody, what am I doing here because he's trying to get out there and make sure people are getting to the polls. But the president sounding bullish on the Republican's chances of keeping control of the Senate after next week's midterm elections. But he didn't sound is optimistic area. Didn't sound is boasting in an interview with ABC's giancarl when he was talking about the house chances and really he hasn't focused on those critical districts where the control of the house is going to be one next week. But instead. Over the next couple of days. Look for him to be in states where there are very critical Senate races. That's where he seems to think he can be the most help. He's definitely putting the focus on immigration as we head toward the midterms. Yeah. And that's not an accident. Of course, this is an issue where he believes can really rally his supporters. He has certainly been doing that through some very heated rhetoric. Some may say scaremongering to get people out to the polls. The president continues to call the caravans of migrants in Mexico, national emergency and invasion of this country as a way to justify why he's sending more US servicemembers down to the border. Some will say this is not a national emergency. It's still nine hundreds of miles away. They're walking by foot. The numbers are getting smaller and smaller. The president says he believes that the numbers are bigger than are actually being reported. He told ABC's giancarl that he's very good at estimating size of crowd. The president also through his campaign tweeted out a video that some people say demonize is those immigrants who were trying to seek asylum in this country. The president's campaign, and he put this out on Twitter last night this ad that shows a courtroom scene with an undocumented immigrant who's not expressing remorse for several murders. And this is a video seeing that we've seen from the president before they used it during an odd last year, and it's a closing argument of sorts, and then it was juxtaposed with video people in that caravan president has really tried to hammer home a message that he believes they're criminals are potential terrorists that are part of that caravan. But many last night we're saying that this crossed the line, and we're trying to demonize an entire group of people and not considering that these are people who are trying to get political asylum. There escaping the violence that he's talking about. Karen, thanks for your time. As always say, Karen Travers with us from the White House. Komo news time seven twenty good for business. "One zero three one WG y. And welcome back in grunt back with us as we talk about trends. The incredible trends that I guess can not just businesses should be using things like this. I would guess anybody. Who's doing something marketing you name, it should be aware these things shouldn't they? Yeah. Absolutely. It does. It's mysterious to me. Why everyone doesn't think about this? Because it precipitates almost everything that we have in a market economy. How much has the smartphone change these things? Well, it has to a large degree the. And what I tell people when when they asked me a question like that people are so people when when you have a large number of people that consumer product and a small number of people that consume a specific product, the large number of people will consume more. Now, I know that sounds very memory. But the the smartphone has only aided folks in their ability to consume. So it's it's a good thing from from that standpoint. But you have to keep in mind that the thing that drives commerce. So the thing that drives consumption is the number of people in the market period. That. That's that's simple, isn't it? Well, it almost sounds ridiculous. Doesn't it? I mean who is out there saying, well, okay. So large groups of people consume a lot of stuff ending small gives people consume smaller amounts of stuff. But if every the Wall Street Journal every day, and I read the marketing section, and I know that the Wall Street Journal just based on what I read doesn't understand that. Because they let me give you an example SUV's SUV's were were bought by baby boomers twenty years ago in in vast quantities. And then the the. The automobile companies had to figure out how to sell the same number of SUV's to generation X as they did to the baby boomers, and they couldn't do it. So they they kept on firing their marketing departments that had kept on firing their their chief marketing officers because they couldn't come up with the secret to selling as many as you these to this other group, but nobody bothered to count them. And this other group of generation. Four small good point by my twenty four year old granddaughter Ken was talking to be a couple of days ago. And she said Papa. Kids our age, and then she calls herself a kid, but she's a young woman. Now, we're not getting married like you folks used to and that's another trend can isn't it? Yeah. And you know, it's funny because I'm trying to figure that one out because you know, half of the kids that are born today the babies that are born, and that's all about you know, demographics are born outside of wedlock. They're born outside of marriage. The marriages seemed to come after the kids are born as opposed to four before. And there are certain cultures. Like, the African American culture where seventy five percent of the kids are born outside of the marriage. I it's just it's a different time. George now, if you could understand it, though, whether it's I know we're talking a lot about business. But if you can understand that how much can you affect change? Well, that's another good question. I'm not so sure that you can I think you mean in terms of changing what the culture is doing. I think the culture is going to do what the culture is going to do. And right now, we have the largest generation in history of our nation is currently fourteen to thirty three years old eighty seven mil million generation, Y millennials. And I think they're gonna do what they're gonna do. Just like, the, you know, you go back forty years, and you look at the you know, what happened in the sixties and early seventies with the hippie culture. They did what they did. They just simply did what they did. But then what happened? They grew up. You know, I I asked folks in my audience what happened to do a sex drugs and rock and roll. What happened to the bloomer hippies became Republicans? In all cases. No, not all cases. But you know, if you if you look at. This. This is let me back up a second. Because this is something that people need to understand. Between the ages right now of thirty four in fifty three. We have a diminutive poppy population of of indigenous people that were born here. There were there were only about sixty nine million people born between sixty five and eighty four as opposed to the boomers that were that were roughly eighty million born between forty five and sixty four. What does that mean that means that that particular population could not support the labor needs that we had in our country and it sucked in immigrants like like a vacuum that particular generation right now is the generation that is making people think that we're a nation of haves and have nuts when when what we are a nation that has a small indigenous population. Superimposed over where the heavy lifters should be where you know, our our strength should be in our population. It's actually smaller. So the net result is you know, instead of having. You know? Haves and have nuts with with a cushion in between. Generation X. We don't because they were never born. We're losing that cushion. Yeah. Well, well, we did. And so you have people saying that the the United States is is broken because we have had been have nuts but middle age, and and and. Middle income are occupy exactly the same space. So if you're middle ages small, then then you're middle income is small as well. But it's a demographic issue was just simply a question of of how many babies were born for that particular period. Can't let me ask you this too. I mean, let let's use Facebook as an example, you know, they they've got billions of people online they've got huge amounts of advertising dollars because of what they do socially. But I think they're starting to lose that. I think they're starting to there's becoming a change. There were I think advertisers are beginning to say, I'm not sure we're getting the bang for our dollar here. Or if we're converting these in the sales because the market may not be what we really want. What's happening with that? Facebook is kind of a strange entity if you will. And I tell folks listen, if you're if you're not paying for it. You are not the customer you're the product as far as I'm concerned. And I and I've got twenty one years experience in the marketing industry the internet are advertising is a bottomless pit you have no idea what you pay none. And there's no way. To reference any kind of success except return on investment. So you you spend money on the internet, and and you just cross your fingers and hope that your sales go up if your sales go up, you don't know if it's if it's relative to how much money you spend on the internet, but what what's happening with zuckerberg's enterprise. There is is not good. It really isn't. I mean, it's huge, but there's a trend here. And to me the trend is very negative for them. Well, what's negative about? It is is I think he's totally disingenuous. I I don't trust Facebook. At all. I I really don't. I don't think I I think you have to understand that everything that anybody writes on on Facebook can be analyzed. And then the in in that analysis puts people into categories in those categories. Are salable. And what sucker does with that information is sell it to anybody who will pay for it. So there there's there's there's no security and anything that you put on Facebook nothing. And what about you know, some of these wack jobs? You know, the idiot that killed eleven people in the Jewish synagogue, the guy who sent out these bombs these pipe bombs. They use social media to kind of spout their hatred. How come we can't catch them a little sooner? You tell me I really don't know that Robert Bowers and Caesar sac, and they are they are truly wack jobs. And I don't know that. That's that's more. More understanding of of a psychic graphics in demographics. As far as I'm concerned, Ken. What's happening, the housing market, most younger people aren't buying houses. They're renting what's going to happen? Well, they're renting because they have a trillion dollars loan down. Yeah. Yeah. But don't worry about it. Now, what we're what we're literally facing with kids is eighty seven million kids that are between fourteen and thirty three years old the kids are finally moving out of their parents basements, throwing wireless trophies. They don't deserve. And and they're starting households and getting married now. Starting a household is could be an apartment or could be a condo could be anything. But we're twenty five million housing units. Short of our needs over the course of that generation so housing, I people ask me all the time. Makes it doesn't seem like housing is all that strong. I said, well, let's these kids are gonna sleep on the ground intense housing is going to be fine. You know, I I spoke to a logging association in Oregon about two months ago, and they can't cut trees fast enough. The biggest problem with with housing right now is getting this skilled people skilled enough to build them. I hope they're replacing those trees though, or are they? I don't I don't know. I hope so. I'm sure I'm sure they're they're done in a in a very careful manner. Very ecological minner. I mean that would create another problem all by itself. How about the population in terms of the men and women fifty fifty what they're buying is that a market change. Yeah. You know, you know, what's interesting about the market is. Women right now. And no one's paying attention to this. But women are about sixty five percent of the people in college. It's sixty five thirty five men women and in law school, seventy thirty. Let me think about really isn't that high. That's a flip. That's a flip from twenty years ago. Right. Oh, yeah. I said, listen, you you you wanna hassle of women? They'll so you don't do it. But what you have to take into consideration. Is is women are going to run things. There's there's absolutely no question about that. Because they are going to be the most educated. I mean, the glass ceiling has been shattered for a long time. We're starting to see many many more women come into CEO positions. And they're good ones. Excellent was absolutely excellent. Once and. So we're we're seeing a major major change in our culture twenty years from now, you won't you won't recognize commerce. You just want because it's going to be run by women. What's happening with the new generation Z? What's? And what is that? Generation Z was born is being born right now is actually a two thousand five to two thousand twenty four. So we're not fully there. But gen Z is not going to be entirely different than gen Y. The they're going to be the same cyber reliant generation. They won't be as big because the number of parents that they have is is much smaller in generation X generation X, essentially, it's the parents of gen Z. But it's what we're watching is is is a new crop of kids. And I tell folks. People say, well, these they complain about the new kids they complain about generation Y, they complain about the millennials. They complain about Z thing. You know, the kids don't wanna work there. They're entitled it's you know, there's all kinds of things that I'm hearing about them. And they said, let's let them grow up soon as they have to feed themselves are going to be fine. There's going to be just like the hippies that everybody hated as soon as they had to feed themselves and face reality. In my joke is they became Republicans. So. You're going to get blasted for that. Can. I don't care. Listen, it is what it is. Well, listen, here's here's how it works zero to one hundred years old when you're a baby you want what you want what you want. It you want it. Now, you don't you wanna free? You're a liberal. And then once you're about ten years old, and you have some possessions at the other kids don't deserve suddenly become a conservative. So what you have is. You have conservatives at one end of the population. And you have liberals at the other end of the population where we're gaining a liberal every eight seconds because they're coming of age to vote, and we're losing a conservative every sixteen seconds because they're dying. So all in all we're we're going to be a nation of liberals. Why can't people just care about people? Whether you're a liberal or a conservative who cares? Why can't they just do the right thing? Yeah. What he tells me that makes me crazy. You know, this whole division that we have going on now in our country, and it's horrible. Yeah. It it troubles me. Really does not. It's not what we're supposed to do. I mean when you have a. Listen, I'm I'm I'm a I'm a Republican. But when you have a president takes on a porn star in public, and they have a fight on Twitter. Give me a break. That's the problem..

"This is Mike. And once again, he will be back tomorrow. We're excited to have back. This is these are just the worst of times in in in being in the media being in the news media. It's it's tough for us. When we have to we have to report on things we have to discuss things were to talk about things, especially when you're doing with mass shootings. There was over the weekend Robert Bowers forty six. Went into the tree of life congregation synagogue about ten AM on Saturday. Killed eleven people injured some cops. And was clearly cut and dry. Hate crime. President Trump called the shooting. Shame. And said that if the synagogue had its own security, it would've been a better outcome. He called it a twisted act of malice in his speech a little later on. And he called for the shooter to be executed quickly yet. Listen, we kill that many people there obviously going to go after the they're going to go for the death penalty on this one. This whole could face the death penalty. They're going to do everything they can. To get this guy on death row. Asep K this guy had issues just a complete issues. He has social media account is just chock full of hatred even called it out. He said he was going in. He said he can't sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. To heck with the Dixon as a different term there. I'm going in in this was right before he went into the synagogue and started shooting. Now, this is once again because I'm the outdoor guy. I have an outdoor show here on the weekends. It is Sunday afternoon. Three to five on our sister station, Fox Sports, Saturday morning, six to eight. So I get now once again in a are fifteen was used several nine millimeter handguns were used and I was now gun control gun controls. What about this? Now. What about this? Why would anyone need an AR fifteen? Why would anyone need three glocks three nine millimeter handguns? I'm gonna warn you just have to just take a deep breath. Pump the brakes in this is not a gun issue. This is not a gun violence issue. This is a deranged lunatic racist anti-semites issue. This is a societal issue. These guns did not get up and do anything by themselves. They had a deranged lunatic behind them. And as far as questions to be answered. Here's the good thing. He survived. He didn't turn the gun on himself. So now, we get answers. Now, we get to dissect we have the man in custody. It's frustrating to me when I need this kind of thing happens. And then the shooter is killed the we have no answers. All we have to do is. We get to do is go look interview people that knew him or her go to their social media. That's it. Now, we're going to get answers. We're gonna find out what made this guy tick, we're gonna find out what made this guy explode. We're going to hear from his friends and family most likely. And it's not just their word against a dead person's he'll get to respond. And we will truly find out what happened. What? Guess what happened Saturday afternoon? Guess what happened all day Sunday all day today? Everyone has their fingers pointed at someone else. And when I say someone else, I'm not talking about them or their groups everyone, but this guy, no one's blaming you. Everyone's blaming everyone else and not him. They're blaming the guns. They're blaming the president. They're blaming the Republican party. They're blaming the war in the Middle East. It blows my mind Robert Bowers is the one that's responsible for this. Make no mistake about this. This is no one's fault. But Robert Bowers. Period..

"Who is Robert Bowers the suspect in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting? He was a shot. He was wounded during one of three the final shootout there were three shootouts with the ATF with with the. With with the the place who came in. But it was it was the ATF. The snipers that went in there and anyway. It's a word is just escaping me. So I apologize for that. But there were three of these and he killed at least eleven people as of right now six have been wounded at the synagogue, the tree of life synagogue moments before he went in to the synagogue. We know that he put a final message on his gab accounts. Saying I can't sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics. I'm going in this first started at nine fifty AM when he went into the synagogue and started shooting it ended at eleven. Eleven oh eight excuse me eleven thirteen when he was taken into custody is swat members. That's what I was thinking of at eleven. Oh, eight is when he they reported that he had begun to surrender. He went up crawling towards them. But the entire time talking about how all the Jews needed to die. She was crawling towards them. Thirteen he was taken into custody. But just goes to show you how deranged he is. Like, what does he think he's going to accomplish all the Jews needs to go in and you kill a bunch of old people? And that's really did. By the way, kill the one woman is old as ninety seven years old killed her in cold blood, in that synagogue. What is he going to accomplish exactly because what I'm seeing across the country. How would the media, by the way and the way they're covering this because they're disgusting? And they're making this into like, cheap political points ahead of an election accusing the president of inspiring this when the guy hated the president because he was to produce. So you do the math on that. And get back to me it requires common core. This this whole thing where this guy thinks he's going to affect some sort of change. What does that change gonna be turns out the country's going to unify and say, that's disgusting. And not it's not going to lead to more of this is going to lead to less of it. It's gonna lead to people being like. Wow. That's that's that's crazy. So whatever he's hoping to accomplish. He's accomplishing the exact opposite. He's slaughtering people in cold blood. And he's leaving the rest of us thinking. That's crazy. Yes. Absolutely. However, you can't deny that there has been a rise in anti-semitism in this country. You've got you've got. Sir fair. Listen, you've got Farrakhan talking compare jurist Jews to termites very very antisemitic things. Shares the stage with Obama and Bill Clinton. I'm not denying that. Shutdown on Twitter. I'm not denying anti-semites existed. All they clearly do I don't know. Is there is there a rising trend in anti-semitism? Well, I don't know. Is there is there when no one demands that his Twitter would his Twitter account is not shut down for saying things. Like that is is it accepted when you see President Obama, you know, embracing him when you see him a not when you see Obama and Bill Clinton distancing themselves. These are. These are two distinct things one is the question of Israel is a trend of anti-semitism in the country. The second is is their gross Apocrypha on the left on the democratic in the Democratic Party related anti-semitism and the answer that question is a resounding. Yes. I mean, there's not this whole this whole shtick. Oh, Trump is really inspiring anti-semites through dog whistles, and you can barely see sense. But it's really happening. Okay. First of all that's insane. But okay, if we're going to believe you for a second what about the overt demonstrations that you were just referring to of Democrats warmly embracing Louis Farrakhan, the president of the United States, the former president United States Brock Obama actually had photos of him meeting with Louis Farrakhan prior to his presidency. I believe it was during the campaign. They were kept from the American public by the nation. His Lomb because they knew how toxic it would be for the president-elect feral chances to have photos of ham alongside Louis Farrakhan. And they were never released until after he was done being president. Why again because of how Americans we're going to react to the warm embrace of anti-semitism going on by by Barack Obama at the time. Do you have you have Al Sharpton whose famously said derogatory things about Jews he was on MSNBC this very weekend? Anchoring their coverage of the synagogue shooting. Anchoring it. There's not even a second of self reflection. There's not even a moment where they're like. Hey, wait, a second. That's a bit discordant that doesn't exactly work to have Al Sharpton doing this. Now. You're right, Mary that there's clearly a double standard Reverend Wright when he was asked, you know, if he's if he had seen President Obama since he became president says them Jews ain't gonna let him talk to me. They will not let him talk to somebody who calls a Spade. What it is. I said from the beginning. He's a politician pastor he's going to do a politicians to and then this guy Bowers. This nutjob goes in and shoots up a synagogue says the Trump is controlled by the juice. I'm sorry. What I think some some? So this is so Trump is anti-semitic. What is what is it? Exactly the argument here. I think in our we rushed to blame. We rushed. Immediately looked to see which side is this person on instead. And we looked for a blame for something. Instead of just saying that sometimes people are crazy. Well, sometimes people do crazy things. And sometimes, you know, what there are people who are just evil. Sorry. There are people who are just evil in this world. You know, something I gotta say over the past week. There's something interesting. And I and I'm certain I'm not alone in having this experience. But one of the things that happens when you look at these tragedies, and you first start finding biographical details out about the person. Generally, what you know is happening is liberals are looking for ways to paint it to the president instantly. Like, okay, let me sort through this and figure out what his bio is. Meanwhile, conservatives are looking through it from the perspective of okay? Let me find a sculptor Tori details because I know the media's gonna come out and accused the president, right? So what happens on Thursday on Friday when we find out about this. And you see the side of his car covered in Trump stickers. Everyone's looking really close Trump's Dickerson. Native Americans for Trump. Is that plaster to the side of his car? And I saw that I go. Okay. So now what's going to happen is they're gonna pretend like that sticker doesn't exist. And just say, it's a white guy. And he's he was Trump, and it was whites and whites are bad, and blah, blah, blah. And you get this really stupid analysis from the media, and it's so entirely and thoroughly predictable when you hear something like this detail that this guy hated Trump. He was an anti Semite. He hated Trump for being too pro Jewish without the media. Speaking a word yet you and I both knew what was going to happen. They were gonna accuse Trump of this, and you are already want, and you've already found these exploratory tells instantly back, but the press doesn't want to acknowledge them. No, absolutely. And I think again, I think sometimes we just need to acknowledge that some there's evil in the world. And this guy is a prime example, totally of of evil in this world. And maybe that's he maybe we blame the person instead of the object or somebody else for his actions seven twenty four on WFAN. The.

Here's NPR's. Jasmine, garst gout is a site that proudly promotes free speech. It boasts that it lets anyone say anything, but it's been controversial critics have called it a home for anti-semites and white nationalists Robert Bowers was a user before allegedly going on a killing spree. He posted about the Hebrew immigrant aid society, a group that supports refugees. He said the group quote likes to bring invaders that kill our people. I can't sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics. I'm going in Andrew Torbay is the CEO of gab in an interview with. NPR? He defended the platform. I know you direct threat in there because I don't what what would you expect us to do with both like that? We you want us to just censor anybody. That says the phrase I'm going in is that what you're proposing here. Well, I got some birds. And here's the thing he answered it, bad speech or hate speech Harvey wanted to find that he's more speech and always will be when does online free speech become a threat. This isn't the first time the issue has come up in social media. Just last week. It came to light that the man accused of sending explosive devices to prominent Democrats in the media had a history of threatening tweets tore BA says gab follows strict rules, including no threats. He says he created gab because he saw no room for conservative points of view on social media. Take Twitter or whatever thousands upon thousands of people calling for someone to kill. Donald Trump saying they're going to kill Donald Trump expressing hate towards white people towards Christians towards minorities who may now support Donald Trump, they allow hate to be spewed at certain groups and certain people. So where is the line between free speech and inciting violence? I think the line is where free speech becomes a threat. Kelly. They didn't want the government curbing free speech, nor did they want citizens to be irresponsible with their speech. She says last year Google band gobs app. Apple rejected it and Microsoft terminated its agreement with it last month just in the last twenty four. Hours at least two web hosting platforms have suspended gab CO. Andrew Torah is not backing down. "There were numerous vigils around the city and the country, including this one in Pittsburgh near the synagogue and remember to the victims and our hyper partisan atmosphere, where we will inevitably debate was the male bomber inspired and catalyzed by President Trump who cast his political opponents as enemies of the people or was he just a loner filled with anger, and political resentments was the synagogue shooter a product of a toxic environment on the right that treats refugees and Americans who don't look and worship as they do as other or was this type of hate-filled mass murderer we've seen too many times in this country before we got both of these stories covered. Plus, we're going to look at the amped up political rhetoric that serves as the backdrop to this year's midterm elections just nine days away. But let's begin the my colleague NBC news Justice. Correspondent Pete Williams will hopefully has updates for us on both of these stories Pete. Good morning. Good morning. Chuck will Bowers is now going to face Robert Bowers, the convict the alleged shooter in in Pittsburgh is gonna face seventy. Two counts. Now, he's been charged both by the federal government. And by the state took this over correct? Well, they both filed charges. So I think it's not clear who where he's going to go on trial. I, but the federal government was very eager to step in and say, this was a hate crime. Just as the Pennsylvania authorities have said, and there seems to be very little doubt of that. For three reasons. Basically one is his social media postings. Months and months of of of vile, anti semitic comments. Secondly, the fact that he's singled out a synagogue as speaks for itself. And Thirdly, the police in Pittsburgh say as he was being transported to the hospital as he was being treated for his wounds. He said all Jews much must die because they are committing genocide against my people did he who who does he refer to as is his people in this case. Who knows I mean, that's that's what he told the police as they were treating him on the weight of Ospital. There was other than his whereabouts over the last year. There's not much known about Mr. Bowers before that is there. What what what profiler they able to drop so far? No, you're right. And if you contrast the two here Caesar CEO accused of the bombings the sending out the package bombs. He had had many run ins with police over the years. He even made a bomb threat against Florida power and light over one of his power bills at one point on the other hand Bowers. Seems to have absolutely no contact with law enforcement. They said he was never on their radar before. He was a loner. Neighbors say he never got out much. He seemed to have his life seems to have been led online. And I think one question is had he ever visited that synagogue before? Did he know the layout of it because you know, ultimately, it ends on the third floor. That's where the shootout with police says he's he's trying to hide from them ended. Is there any indication that he purchase any of his guns illegally or were they all purchased legally? No, there's no indication that he bought anything illegally. And I think one question about his weapons is this many of the witnesses said they thought there was automatic weapons fire. Well, you have to assume that these are people who don't spend a lot of time listening to gunfire. But the police say it sounded like automatic weapons fire. So I think the question is did he modify that semiautomatic rifle it's possible to do it. It's illegal. But that he modified in a way that would shoot automatically or was he using a bump stock was used in the Las Vegas shooting. I let's move to Caesar. As of. Friday. He was not talking is. Is there any update on whether he is yet to cooperate with with officials? No one of their ability to question him. Now is is reduced. He's going to have his first court appearance on Monday. The the initially questioned him under an exception to the Miranda rule. You know, normally you have to advise someone of their rights before you can question them. If you want to use that evidence in the trial against them. But there is a public safety exception. And that's what they used here, basically saying are there any more bombs? Well, he refused to say whether he had anything to do with the ones that were already out there or whether they were any others still waiting to be discovered. It's been what thirty six hours now since they found it. Yeah. I was just going to say at this point. They can't say I noticed that the postal service won't say definitively yet at what point will they feel comfortable assuming that it's out of the system another week. Maybe. You know, they have been finding these closer and closer to the mail system of the last ones were discovered inside the mail system self. They're all carefully looking for them. And I think you have to assume that there aren't any more because this is the longest gap that we've yet had since anywhere discovered and all the la- late ones discovered where west coast, so it sort of made sense that that might be. So the assumption has got to be that. Right. The last two two Senate essential Senator Kamala Harris, and Tim Steiner tends to fire Thompson. All right. Pete Williams, then awfully tough and busy week for you for all of us. Thanks very much today yesterday and had a vigil last night members of the community in Pittsburgh. Shocked and heartbroken. "More right there. Also, the blaze radio network. It is the weekend. With joepags. We're keeping an eye on what's going on in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And again, we do the program on Saturday morning slash afternoon, depending on what time zone you're in. But a person shows up at a synagogue, squirrel hill in the Pittsburgh area and start shooting the place up allegedly yells all Jews must die and police. Now have this person they say is the shooter in custody. Eight people have been killed three people three police officers have been injured we're told her shot. We're hoping the death toll doesn't go up and he hires way too. High already should be zero people should be able to go to worship as they see fit and not worry about somebody having this hatred for them. I'm getting reports from people that CNN is somehow blaming the gun, and they keep on trying to tell me what CNN is say. I don't watch CNN. I don't know where CNN is on my cable CNN is. In fact, fake news doesn't mean perpetrate violence against CNN. In fact, don't nobody should be violent over any of this stuff. But the fact is you should have the right to call somebody out when they claim to be a news organization, and they keep on either purposely or accidentally or because they're it after through jobs getting it wrong. If you're incompetent you're getting it wrong. I'm going to call you out for that. But yeah, whatever CNN is focusing on the focus should be this guy. Police have named the suspect Robert Bowers forty six year old person. I don't know where he's from forty eight years old on lower. He's from. But he clearly was there they say that he was the shooter. I'm gonna give you what the heavy has to say the heavy is a website that does very quick CSI on people online. The heavier reports and. N B for this for this heads up. Robert Bauer allegedly said all these Jews must die party was arrested following the massacre at the tree of life congregation's synagogue in Pittsburgh, the horror unfolded on the morning of October twenty seventh today in the squirrel hill neighborhood of the city. There were close to one hundred people inside the synagogue at the time of the attack Bowers is a forty eight year old resident a Pittsburgh as many as twelve people were shot at the scene, including three police officers of that twelve eight reported to have died an hour before the shooting Bowers wrote on social media site gab H A S likes to bring invaders in the kill our people. I can't sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics. I'm going in HRIS is the Hebrew immigrant aid society. They continue Bowers allegedly was armed with an AR fifteen style rifle. I guess that's what CNN is focusing on NBC news is Tom winters reports that he was armed with an AR fifteen style rifle. In addition to multiple handguns, Katy k which is a news outlet in in Pittsburgh has described Bowers as being a heavyset white male with a beard when Bowers emerged from the standoff with police. He was crawling due to injuries the station reported the Bowers is alleged to have opened fire on responding officers. The former president of the synagogue, Michael Eisenberg told the Pittsburgh post gazette at the shooting took place in the third floor of the building Eisenberg said that typically there would be a children's class on that floor, but it had been cancelled on the day of the attack. Bowers was an active poster on the alt-right version of Twitter, the colleague gab, I was on gab dot A. It's not all right. That's not true. So that that's misreporting year. I'm not on gab now as I stopped because it wasn't working I Twitter and Facebook or mainstream enough that they were working even though there's some squelching there, but use an active user on gab Bowers went by the moniker one dingo. On the site and his bio section. He wrote quote Jews are the children of Satan. The Lord Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. And I guess he's quoting something out of the bible, but the quote was was hacked in and out of context shortly after the shooting of the tree at the tree of life congregation Bowers Gav account was deleted in the post a few days before the shooting. He wrote Trump is a globalist not a nationalist. There is no Maga MAGA as long as there is a and then he uses a an insult a slender is word against Jews infestation Q and on is here to get patriots that were against martial law in the nineties to be the ones begging for it now to drain Ma swamp. But go ahead and keep on saying you're winning the same day Bowers wrote amazing amount of division on gap today. The overwhelming ju- problem has been solved. So we can fight with each other. And other message. He wrote for the record. I did not vote for him talking about Trump nor have I owned Warner even touched a Maga hat. Now like was the alleged bomber the media will try to say, we'll Trump made this happen. And what I've seen on social media. This morning is kind of interesting because the guy clearly says didn't vote for Trump cl-, clearly says Trump isn't isn't who he says he is calling Trump globalist saying that he would never touch an MA make-america-great-again hat, but on social media. I've seen like verified people. It's a little check. Mark. Saying things like yeah. But the atmosphere that Trump makes his what causes this and and Trump's language he uses radicalize is people like this. So they're trying to figure out a way to say that the president of the United States is somehow the cause of this. When the reality is like with the baseball shooter like with the bomber. And now with this guy. These are not jobs. These are bad people doing bad things. Whether it be. Utilizing pipes and shrapnel and and bomb making materials or a gun or a knife or fill in the blank. These are bad people doing bad things. They're convinced what they're doing is. For a righteous reason when anybody who is a logical rational reasonable person would never even consider this. Never. That's the ladies that we have a out of Pittsburgh, again, if you're listening to the program at a later time than when we do it live on Saturday morning slash afternoon. You're probably you're going to have more information. I'm I'm glad he's in custody. I'm glad no where people are in harm's way there. But the fact that he was able to get in there and make that happen is is disgusting. It really is. There was a time in this country, not very long ago where you could leave your keys in the car, and you leave it running if it was a cold day out to to warm things up didn't have to lock your front door. Well this day and age, I don't wanna police state. I don't want martial law. That's for sure. But what I do want is for people to be smart because the bad guys. The the fringe loons out there. We'll take advantage of our welcome are welcoming nature of our openness of our togetherness of our want to be one community that gathers the synagogue did nothing wrong. So don't misunderstand me. But I'm at the point to where I want where people congregate and gather to have protection in place. I'm to the point to where if you're going to have a place where people can access innocence. You should have somebody there or some mechanism in place to guard against a piece of garbage like this guy is alleged to be. I don't think it's asking much. I really don't whether it be a school or a movie theater or a church or a synagogue or a mosque whatever it happens to be. There should be a protect a protective mechanism in place. Whether it's armed guards or bulletproof glass, or you can't get in less. You're buzzed in. I mean, something has to happen. Because you can go down the list of all these places we're looking we're talking about soft targets the movie theater where somebody can walk in the exit door or the movie theater that says you can't conceal carry here. That's the future that's chosen or the high school that there's some stairwell door is easily accessible from somebody from the outside. Who was just dropped off by Uber guys carrying a rifle bag now the synagogue, how does this guy get in there? Well, it's Saturday morning. We have congregation we have services we. There should be a mechanism in place to where a bad guy can be identified and if not stopped in his tracks at least deterred to where a good guy can get there and bring safety. And sadly, that's where we are the idea of just open doors, and everybody's welcome into somebody shoots than, you know, than they do know or somebody bombs, and they do know it can't be that way. Let's now get to a place to where we are. We're in a stance and have the ability to resist a reject a piece of garbage like this or the bomber or remember it's one eight hundred five zero one seventy three they should happen. And are you at the point now too where you'd no longer take CNN or MSNBC or for some of you FOX seriously that you think that there is such a slant that you're not getting the straight story. By the way, think FOX does a very good job. I by the way, think Newsmax TV does a very good job where you'll see my show Monday through Friday, seven pm eastern time. MSNBC and CNN their authorization, right? Or do you have a different take one eight hundred five zero one seventy eighty joepags dot com. Stay right here. This.
