Deuce bigalow is an underrated movie not necessarily because of like quality be it never should have been made but it was made. It is somehow so bad that it's good in. It's one of so so many movies. That were made these nineties comedies. Like shallow hal. With the entire lesson of the two hour film packed with idiotic. Fat jokes is the real beauty is what's on the inside. And i don't think norma's ever in a in a in able to be anything outside of up where you could truly appreciate genius me. Tv couldn't really captured me. Saturday night live. Did on the news really. Jim downey the real genius of saturday. Night live But the You just to to really capture norms essence. It was conversation and it was being in stand in saying him do and tell stories. Like hitler's dog. He'll understand his mind. You know the thing about norm. I kinda realize as. I have a dusting of this. You know in terms of not divulging. You have this cancer. I think he didn't want the intimacy of it. Because when you say that people go. Oh i do or y- okay. He didn't like that kind of intimacy he he was just a shark that wanted to keep swimming. Didn't like the kind of real intimacy that a lot of people cherish or seek out to him. It was something. He tried to avoid so interesting because a quote from laurie. Joe who friend partner. Whatever who said like norm hated pandering in any way more than anything and in a way he may have felt like divulging. This would have been way of pandering that he just couldn't abide by. It was a way to a form of attention that he loads. Right right. i if you think about like the canadians. The canadians are like english light. And i don't mean that in any special sense except that it is. If you see remains of the day you had these two people at the end of that film Who just can't say that they want to be together because of just society and their place in life and their pride Won't let them. And like i do feel. There's a sense of stoicism. Zuma sensitive gentlemanly knows that he was old school. That way robb. I wrap it. "Guy kicked a fifty six yard or something like that in tied the game. Then it'll dvr issue. Then the raiders complete along past. They win the coin. Toss plead along. Pass they go in for one of those. Oh it looks like he's scored. Everyone's out on the field. They're all celebrating. And then of course with the answer. Replace knee okay. Hit just inches before the ball. One so now. The raiders have the ball on the three inch. Line i down. Ot you score academic score a touchdown you win okay. They do a quarterback sneak from three inches away. He doesn't get in then. The dvr runs at a room. No stops okay at that point. I'm like all right. It stopped but they're just going to hand the ball off stuff. It in that war just stealth twice more the field goal right right. They're not gonna win with the alcohol these three. They're going to get in sure. There are on the three inch line then it clips off. Then i turn on sportscenter. There's an offsides. Call on the raiders on the next play that go back to the five yard line. Then they throw pick. Oh jesus in the end. Wow so they're on. You look statistically when you're on the three inch line and yet i down scored nine and a half percent. Right now throwback that it's like oh my god. How could the raiders go. They went from. We are losing. We have thirty four seconds to go down the field with no timeouts. kick a field goal to. We're definitely going to win. 'cause run the three inch yard line of the fresh downs too. We just do a pick and they have ravens. Have a great quarterback. Each team is kinda of scoring every time they get the ball. Then the ravens quarterback gets stripped sack. Fumbles raiders pick it up. Then the raiders. Throw some kind of weird hail. Mary on a broken play. Or something and win which touchdown in a game. You don't have to win by touchdown after the other team gets the ball. You have to win. you can win by field goal. this is. I'm a people. Know me for my goal post rule another rule that i talked about vermillion. Years is the field goal. Ot rule which is how it used to be. Whoever scores first wins death. Sidewinder kickers can kick a fifty seven yard field goal. That means you win the coin. Toss yards you. Start on the twenty five down and you kick the field goal. It's all based on a coin. Toss they change it to you. Have to score a touchdown a few score a if you score field team all right so Anyway crazy crazy game and look out the raiders. Also the The they're in a dome. There's a roof. There's eighty five thousand people that are being warren or like crazy. Pirate manager guerrilla mass. There's no other form of a mask and that stadium and also thought about this too when we talked about covert in the past a lot of will churches no good because people sing so you know you can go outside and go to rally you can go to farmers market. You can do stuff outside. Go to the beach but churches are no good because people are having their mouth. Don't be exuberant. oh my you know. Obviously when the raiders are lining up to kick their fifty seven yard or not every humor masked their shoulder show there. I mean every time. They show that the crowd was going insane as you could imagine. Coming back the raiders. Were dogs in that game. They ended up winning and it was a dramatic spectacular. Game that you need to watch. Oh okay rob. Schneider's going to call in to talk about norm knew about norm sickness. Because that's the part. Of course that i gravitate towards is like norm was sick for a decade. And no one. None of you know you're friendly with them. You had no idea at least a lot of the same people. Of course none of us heard about it and live with that has not a you know a secret but like to live with it sort of internally and not let it out and not you know let people support you. Everyone's decision. It's your own personal decision. But it's when. I chose to go public when i first was diagnosed in bringing up the podcast. I just felt carrying that burden would have been just too heavy or too hard. You know doing it with just the people i know or you know. The outpouring of support was so great and lifted me up and helped me through it all yet. Can't imagine what normal through. Yeah exact opposite with your sexuality interesting. it's guard a bit. Norm was raised in quebec city from canada. Both his parents were teachers. And we got Like i said we can Talk to we've talked to rob schneider is gonna call in and a second and give his stock because he was on. Snl with doors probably done punch a movie. Short adam sandler stuff we've crossed did something that A very select group of well. When i say very select almost everyone but you got to play colonel sanders. Oh yeah kind of curious about that as well. There's also really funny story then. i'm going to butcher. Had a great joke was enormous joke. I can't remember it and all screw it up. I was just thinking about it the other day before i heard about this news but Danny two sheets told me once all ask him during the wedding over the weekend for some good norm stores but norm famously. Would go out gambling in vegas and let's stay out till five thirty in the morning or something and norm had like seven. Am flight out of vegas or some version of that and as the story goes he called for a wakeup call one minute before he would have had to get up. You know like it's five fifty nine. He called for one at six. Am the person said. Well that's in one minute. And i think the joke was him going. You're right let's just stay on the phone. Then wait this out. Rob schneider's online to rob. I just got last bit. Yeah no Normal attack things and in ways you wouldn't expect in comedy is comedy writing the last time i was trying to think lifetime performed with them. You know it was just doing like a twelve minute bed and He was about you. Know he had a cigarette and a lighter and before every joke would slowly take it up and start to lie and then he wouldn't light it because you've been thinking the next show or he would just wouldn't mention it and then the audience would be like life thicker and then be dying laughing so in a way of attacking things you didn't know where it was coming and then and then and then if he did know what was coming you forget about it. Because of his delivery you know and then Like he would say like you ever ever find yourself Telling a lie and then you realize right in the middle is wait a minute. There's no possible way. I could benefit from those lying. Limei my lying like hey. You see that.

"The app get it on got to get on the children get mandate. Get it on for listening. Thanks for tuning in. Thanks for the brand saw. The ratings won gina grad. Great news bald rhyme. Okay sounds hot. Oh man we lost one of the greats norm macdonald has passed. It's funny because we played the norm macdonald segment on corolla classics over the weekend. And then mike august. And i were talking about norm over the weekend as well. See what you did and now this did you know. He was sick now. Unbelievably private can one person be my goodness nine years. He was sick. They said nine years he had a private battle with cancer. He was a one of the greats from snl. He was an matic guy who i considered a friend. But i don't think norm had friends and sort of traditional sense. Centric come across each other. You know outside of the studio on on occasion. I think everyone sort of agreed. He was one of the funniest guys we've never met him but couldn't really find a lane her say like i don't mean that in a bad way i have some of norms tendencies. Which i'm funny but it's not really directed than anyone specific direction being handsome. But you don't know it. Well yeah but i know how right. That's what you're talking about norm. He didn't know it okay. That's so i get. I'm acutely aware of my hotness but thanks for bringing that but let's talk so nor you would consider him way funnier than certain late night house. Maybe who came from similar origins as him but like they found a lay in to direct that marginal funniness norba just overflowing barrel of polarity. I right. I would say on one end of the spectrum. You have maybe. Kevin hart who isn't exactly a barrel of comedy but enigmatic a motor you know what i mean on earning yes. It's called. show biz well. What the reality is is whether you're comedian or a prizefighter or an actor. I mean you know who who knows who has. There's certain actors we know they have ability and they're gifted and there's four those guys and then there's everyone else and everyone else. You could argue that guy like tom. Cruise plays the game better than anybody. You know what i mean. That's that's what you get to do. I no one says he's gifted or more gifted than a hundred and fifty other guys taller better looking like a younger like whatever. Just get shitty fungus. He's he's directed you know and that holds true with comedy. Everyone wants to always talk about like sort of. What is your comedy horsepower. And i we say it's what are you getting to. the rear. wheels doesn't really matter what your engine is. It's what's coming through the transmission going through the differential and getting hooked up on the ground. You really are technically. That's what i always say. But go ahead and norm. Everyone ingredient a thousand horsepower. Fire-breathing engine to question is how much got to the rear wheels. And the answer to that would be a lot. Sporadically made you laugh harder than anybody. When he made you laugh and then he was gone and wasn't around and you know and on the other hand he lived life on his terms. You know he. He wanted to do what he wanted to do and he did it. You know he'd probably hasn't had a day job in thirty five years you know. I don't know if he ever. You know i sort of you know. Kind of reminds me of me Famously of My buddy phillip. The juggler. When i was in casey somebody came up to me and said was worked with fill up and was the nicest guy. 'cause philip lived in casey's wife or his wife widowed wife or you know he was in branson blah blah blah. But he's the nicest guy in the world. And but but i've said this about him at some point. He was lamenting that. He never had the career that he thought he was going to have or that he wished for himself. He wished to career of sitcoms or you know he wanted half tim allen's career first off tim allen's not happy number number one he's been in. You know eleven movies. That have grossed over two hundred million bucks. Ain't happier today than the norm. Was you know day before. He died number one but number two. I just said to philip. You've never worked job. You haven't worked a job you're worked on cruise ships. You open for andy. Williams toured the country in the world. You're in branson you show up at work at four in the afternoon like you golf in the morning. You don't have a job that you just beat out ninety nine point nine nine percent of humanity and those are people walking on the planet today and all who came before you know. It's a great lesson. Grandma used to say and liz later years to his wife my grandma after she had had several strokes and he had had a few heart attacks. And they're the sunset years of their life and send it home said look at us. We got a better than ninety five percent of the people in those worlds. And we're sitting here. You know married at age. Whatever else as seventy five eighty s a great way to look at the disagreement in life. They woke up that morning. Well are we comparing ourselves to aliens with zero. Problems are infinitely wealthy and healthy and tall and thin. Like who really are you comparing yourself to. So you know norm may have.

"Extremely dangerous. I want you to keep one eye on my friends though reluctant or on an adventure lifetime anyway people. This was that no. I said i'd do look to him like you know how like your anyway rob schneider talking shit people. This is as you can see. This is the pitta me of ninety stuff right here of ninety s garbage garbage. It's the most pretty cala bunga but when you put it in this shit is is kind of like damn you just sit just. We're right in the moment you put it in here. No it's like like everything that was good but the part you appeal off because like i don't want this and and the good thing i'm making. They took those peel always yet. May that like imagine a smoothie. That's made out of peach skin. An apple peels and lime. Yeah and the seeds people definitely number ninety slop any number just taking everything and just disappointed in the one bag one plate one bucket not separating it not trying to not trying to prepare it right is just you know what just pour it all in one trough inches service slot slot the kids like hogs with you..

"You don't deserve you. you don't need. The trump trump was evil. You you don't you don't need access to biden biden's of like there was a lot of blowback i thought the more interesting blowback was from that side There is a there is a There's a sensitivity to two questions about biden's bailey. That i was not expecting that. I was by so i think the answer. What is what is the goal of interview like that is. Can we take a breath. Have a bear picture conversation and And not deal with news of day but the but the consequence of that choice as an interviewer is people who only watch clips of the interview on twitter or going to be dissatisfied. People only watch the interview on. Twitter are not gonna understand. Mike goal and not give it a chance. I'll give it a shot. And that's unfortunately a consequence of our decontextualize media landscape right that clips and moments and outtakes or People's hot takes about an interview actually consumed instead of the product itself. So really what they're yelling about. If i'm being honest. Is there not yelling about the interview. There yelling about a into a byproduct almost like a to make sense. They're reacting to a deconstructed decontextualize thing that provides a source of rage or anger or hostility. And that's the point. Where i turn off my twitter mentions and i don't look for the rest of the day because there's no way i'm going to persuade. Joe blow to five one three eight to one that he said watch the entire interview. That's not gonna happen. I'm realistic about that. I would say that's fair enough. I would say also though the cable news host do benefit from little twitter clips. All the time anderson facial expressions. Jake tapper busting some rebublican. You know house member. Who's on there you know about the big lie or whatever you know does go both ways. I agree very good point. And i'm glad you said that i should be grateful for snap stream and all those other services that let me boats short clips to twitter And so i am part of the problem as i am also trying to be part of the solution and then the sun goes around the earth again and again and again and we all we all hopefully her to live till two thousand ninety nine. Go committed to that plan if you visit. We should have a poll at the end of the century who is the most influential journalists of the century. And i can just say it's not going to be made so i'm out of the running. Let's let's see if glenn gets to number one is Rob schneider anything's possible. Brian stelter paperback edition of hoax. Donald trump fox news and the dangerous distortion of the truth is out right now brian. Thanks for coming on the press box again. Thank you all right. David man i so many there I want to I wanna post game with you. I did like the part where he said about how in order to be in order to truly understand cable news and cable news hosts you it really helpful to be a cable news host I feel like now. I have to host an opinion show on. Espn in the morning and argue with max kellerman to truly understand to be able to write about sports television. Not going to really fully understand until that moment. Yeah well it's like if we interview other podcasters there's some point of connection there. You know we can. We break the ice by complaining about task. Or whatever you know. There's there's gotta be a little bit of common ground and the party said about interviews out of context. It really is fun because it does. It does make you know. Burnish the star of the cable news host and then mantha cable news host into the pinata at the same time yes yeah. That's absolutely right. I mean it's what you said is correct. There is the the the news clips on twitter or valuable. I can't help it. I just think of the last thing. I was looking at before we came on the air which was a a tweet that had A brief clip. Of the floyd mayweather logan paul fight and The tweet was just like implying or stating that. That may whether some point during the fight knocked paul out and then held him up to keep the fight going. You know just to keep because this is totally sham and the clip that was attached. Was i was i was. I had already copied the url to put it into ringer a slack. And then of course. I read a few comments down where somebody had the full clip and it was. You know what i was watching was totally false right. Donald trump zipper exactly it was it was donald trump. We should maybe. Donald trump zipper should be the new milkshake. Duck trump zipper. I feel like yeah hosts skit people on tv. Donald trump zippered a lot and it's I think it kinda comes the territory. Brian seemed surprisingly well. Adjusted about the whole thing to reflect on him man. He lives through a lot of it. He strikes me as that Let us say there are other cable. News hosts in the world. I think who are reading their mentions and taking taking things a bit more personally. I was thinking breida's at least fairly zan about that. Maybe that's because he thinks of himself as a reporter more than as a opinion guy. Yeah so to listen Part of what makes him work on television. Part of what kind of give allows him to to stand out.

"I guess if we look back to the course of history do you get to the point of an insurrection without fox news for twenty years and i don't know how you can possibly get to that point without ox news fox of course one of many factors And maybe without fox news maybe something else would have come up in. Its place to lead to it but you know this environment of right wing rage radio environment of two zero news conspiracy. They're thinking ability to have a mass delusion. That which i think is really what generates mass delusion I don't know how we could have gotten there without rupert murdoch. Launching fox But what i find. Intelligence news is very very infrequently much of an appetite to look backwards right. You gotta put on next day show you gotta get out there and do the show again. He got to get out there and get the audience. i suppose you know if you're political project for four years was to defend a president who then lost re election. Who failed to win reelection. You might wonder should we do. Should should dumb. We shouldn't put on so many right. Wing screamers maybe. We shouldn't but outs much propaganda but you look every every everything that's happened since november third has been to do more of that to go further trumpism further the propaganda lane and there's very little self-reflection that i've seen with all that said brian. Can i get you to solve a mystery. That david and i have been Interested in was on thought about rob. Schneider it's not about rob schneider but but in the same content universe. Why did fox get rid of lou dobbs so this is a little bit of a mystery And and the people by the paperback will see them. The adversary about it. But but Lou dobbs's never said he's never he's never explained it himself neither as zan scott the head of fox news media. I think the theory goes like this These lawsuits were bearing down on fox. Lou dobbs was one of the promoters of the big lie that led to these lawsuits. His program was full of this voter fraud. Nonsense that led to the lawsuits but is it so and then they fire him. One day after day will technically they. So you guys now. When was television works right. They pair played him so they're paying him not to play. They're paying into sit on the bench till the end of his contract which means they didn't fire him. They cancelled his show and kept him off tv. Which that's how it works. Tv news and times. That's within their rights. They can pair play And and so often in witness brexit program until his hundred aspires. So why do they do. It really didn't want to after this lawsuit so obvious because the lawsuit right well i. Here's what i think. I think he was the pain in the butt. I think he was a payment about for management. He had been for a while. I think they already were looking around saying this. Guy is this program advertising bases week. You know he's he's not he's not he's not maybe not making money for the network Maybe he And also if you throw it overboard as npr's david folkenflik has said if you throw one overboard Others might learn from that Doubt i think might have been the story of what was happening that you know. There's some folks. I fox swear he was gonna be dismissed even before the losses. So you know. I i think the answer is it's complicated. It always is but if you are not If you if you have a reputation as being a pain at annoyance You know in the eyes of management. You know these things happen sometimes in your last you mentioned the murdoch's mentioned suzanne scott when people i guess the murdoch's hold you know have odin incredible place in the imagination of anybody who pays attention of this stuff but when we were when anybody else hears about these things going on lou dobbs getting fired or or more. Broadly the sort of political shifts the ideological decisions that get made behind the scenes. Do we ever read the tea leaves correctly. I mean do we ever like is there is this a is this a long term political campaign on the part of the murdoch family or is this all just sort of capitalism. In the way that you describe there you know lurch to the right when when when faced with competition i mean is is this a to. What degree is this. A political project fox news being in you know you can lump and other things and how to what degree is it. Just a a a capitalist one. The first thing comes to mind is it is it is. It is first and foremost a capitalist project. I think. I think that is where i would come down the answer But it's a capitalist project that does advance agenda and does come with certain perks when your favorite politicians are in power and that's Appealing and important part of the story. and But i think it's primarily for the murdochs a business a profitable enterprise Something that he's he's. He's actually largely hands off a lot of the time which i would argue as part of the problem but You know you people say to me you know what. Why is he not raining in the talent well. He prides himself on giving the talent autonomy. Autonomy is a great thing in the media. Business as long as you're not promoting dangerous anti vaccination theories or encouraging people to believe lies the caused them to attack the capital. You know there's that you know. I'm all for autonomy But there's a rudderless nece. There's a lack of accountability. That is is a problem. Comes in the murdoch's. But here's here's what i think Here's what i try to remember about rupert..

"Sure about. I laugh at everything. So that's great. Well that question actually leads to another question. That i had you've been glenn greenwald's been kind of going at you lately on twitter. Have seen that now. That i have. I don't know he's also become sort of. I don't know if he's trying to move in on your corner because he's tweeting a lot about cable news ratings And that's it. He soon become a media critic of sort in his own right. But what do you think just in general. You mentioned the fox news thing but what do you. What makes you a good target for well. Some people on the right and the glenn greenwald's of the world in anybody that has a bone to pick. What does it. What do you think that it is about where you sit in the media landscape that makes you a target. I would like to keep making jokes. But if i if. I have to be serious about it i would say that Being at cnn which is of course institutional and You know in some ways the coca cola of news You know the brand is synonymous with news. I have something to do with it. And i think i might be. Being a report. Covers the media in an age where everybody is a media critic Maybe maybe makes me a little more visible and and a little bit more of a A little bit more of a a. I hate to use the word target because sounds something. I'm complaining. I think it's all part of the job and i think it's all part of the gig but I think what's happened in the last ten years. Taking me out of it is. Everybody is a media critic especially on twitter. Everybody thinks they're media critic. Well people have really insightful. Things to say about the media there there's a lot to critique and a lot to improve on and i kind of evolved my thinking about my job as a result i certainly i share some take some time to time but i i one of you. This more as a correspondent. I'm correspondent i'm a reporter. I'm covering the media while everybody else's commenting on it That's how i approach. It certainly done remote purchases working different way. That's great But i think. I think i ended up becoming a kind of a face or a symbol for bomb media So to speak. Because i'm on cnn. Doug about media is that make center. Might if i totally loss. No it's absolutely so you become an avatar for cnn. And then it's like oh word avatar and also as you say for media critics We got the media critic. We have exposed the media critic as being whatever they've exposed you as a once in a while someone will will. We'll will discover that. I'm not perfect and i will say you're right. The media criticism thing is fascinating to me because there was a time when that was a very very small part of journalism which you and i are old enough and david to old enough to remember And then i just remember the early stages of the blogosphere number one and then fox news number two and going. Oh my gosh media. Criticism is like one of their biggest subjects may be on certain days their biggest subject. Do you have an answer for why that became so appealing as a way to draw eyeballs. It's absolutely true. It wasn't always way at fox news and in right wing media to some degree right when media has always been a counter to major media and exists as an alternative and presents itself that way but fox Spends far more time talking about the media than than did ten years ago. And i think that's partly the sensitive cynical. It's a twenty four seven ad four fox the the whole time they're bashing media they're also telling you don't trust anything else. Don't turn the channel. Don't watch anything else. Don't trust us other guys Which is is. I've been very cynical and probably a net negative because if i were saying nutritionist. I would encourage you to get a well-balanced diet a well-balanced media diet that might include some fox but would include a lot of other outlets as well. So it's it's a media bashing the twenty four hour ad four fox it's also really cheap easy content right. It's the it's the cheapest and easiest form does talking about something else. Some other channel and And also it. It's part of the gop narrative of institutions elites out to get the little guy which you know if you walked inside cnn. The where i am right now. I'm at the office in new york and you walked around to see a bunch of guys in a bunch of men and women trying their best to tell you what the news is and you know. There's no there's no shadowy there's shadowy conspiracy behind the scenes but that is the the claim that is the narrative. The story line fox presents and brian does have his Zoom cam on just for people listening so we. There isn't true there is no shadowy conspiracy behind him in his office right now. And i'm and. I'm in my t shirt and shorts. Because there's not a lot of people here yet because the building has gradually reopening Were in this kind of soft reopening. The building phase. And it's really good to see everybody again. And i guess i kind of love the view that That if you actually work in one of these media outlets than you know better than the crazy theories out there you know. All the sort of What's the old thing about people you know. People are too incompetent to pull off a grand conspiracy. Isn't that the best argument against you. Foes or best argument against us secret government cover ups of. Ufo's you can't keep a secret to save your life. I think that's kind of how newsrooms are. Yeah i think there's probably a lot of truth to that In the paper bag of your book just came out and We want to get into a little bit of the details. But you know what the way you just the way. he does. Answer that question there. Would somebody out there on the internet saying well if he wants to say fox as this narrative than what does it say that the media critic on cnn is writing a whole book about fox being full of it. Oh good question. So i'm not saying. I would say that certainly not but you know i mean this is so you're right so so you write a whole book about fox news. I think most of the people listen to podcasts. Would say that's a pretty easy target but like do you feel that..

"David we got ourselves a guest today. A guestroom cable news. Would you like to tell the people who we got on the show. Today i get the honor. Please as brian stelter of cnn's reliable sources And of you know twitter infamy twitter. Infamy ooh that sounds like a potential topic to bring up today. Yeah we should talk to him about it. Are we ask about the rob schneider thing. I think you have to. I got so excited. When i saw the rob schneider and stelter was coming out say okay. Well we'll i know. I know what this interview is going to be about. We actually had stelter on last year when he wrote. This book called a hoax which is about fox news. And donald trump. He has the paperback edition out. Now has done some reporting ended about what happened at fox after the election. What happened about at fox around january. Six we'll get into all that. And i think some also we should get into some stuff about what it's like to be. Brian stelter to be kind of the media critic who becomes also the media critic people target. Here he is the man himself from cnn. Brian stelter brian a lot of very important things to talk about. But can we start with rob schneider. I think i know who he is. But you're going to have to remind me rob schneider. The guy from early ninety saturday night. Live in the deuce bigalow movie franchise. He used to be an actor. Yeah okay woo. We're getting spicy right off the top. I get on twitter last week. And rob schneider is tweeting. This the toad. That is brian. Stelter commenting on glenn greenwald who was arguably the most important journalist of the century is like listening to a hot dog vendor discuss michelin star restaurants. I brian we are giving you the forum in cable news style here. Do you respond to rob schneider. Wait i don't think i. I don't think i saw this tweet and i and i hate to disappoint him Because i would have thought of that. That's such an incredible sentence. I wish i could come up with an equally. Incredible sentence combining animals and food and okay. But let's just take it word by word. Okay toad okay. Great no objection to that. That's funny elliott. Oh that's fine glenn. Greenwald did did you say arguably the most important journalist the century. That was mr schneider's contention. Yes what year is it is. It's still twenty twenty one. Glenn greenwald certainly a greg journalist. Let's check back in in twenty ninety nine. i hopefully. we're all still with us. Okay and then we can ask rob schneider. Who was the most important journalists of the century. Does that seem like a fair platelets up. Does that work for everybody. So your argument here is he was just. He was just being a little too early about. I think he might be seventy nine years too early. Okay but no objections about anything else the hotdog vendors. Listen you know ever since fox news folks start calling me a unique. I think there's there's no No insult can get under my told like scam. But i'm really sorry that i missed rob's insult i have replied on twitter so i'm grateful to you for flagging it for me you can go back and grab it after the interview no it. I'm sure it's it's so relevant enough. Do you think you'd does now. Do you think he's a professional twitter. I believe i've seen him. I've not seen him but seem like an ad for him at comedy clubs out here in la you know kinda jerry's hilarious.

SNL Adds Their First Chinese-American Cast Member
"Saturday night live announced its new cast members for three new cast members for the for the new season and one of them is comedian and writer Bowen Yang right a He's a mainstay of the New York comedy scene. He's Queer. He's he's kind of famous for these kind of built this cult following these lip sync videos. He does until the end brilliant. You know he's done what a random priestly from from the devil wears Prada. He's this really funny one of Cardi B. Just take the audio from these performances and then just you know just just do a perfect sync up of these of these performances end. It's it's it's hilarious. It's something that he made his own. Yeah and what I think is really amazing about it. Is that when those things went. Viral on twitter is when he kind of became a thing right so he's like kind of one of the he's a he's a twitter created I mean superstar superstar this point. Oh yeah right I mean I mean addition to being being actual comedian doing the scene and and then last selenium Gig as a writer on SNL yes so is also on one like the skits or whatever is like Kim Jong Il Kim Jong position to be to be hoisted up and be featured player on the cast. It was blowing a amongst Asian. Americans was born yeah US position to do well. I I mean there's so much resistance on that showed actually put putting an Asian American right on the cast right. This is a long time so yeah and he actually it turns out. He is the first person of Chinese descent right to be on the cast right there have been there actually have been other Asian American members. Fred is he stars thunders Japanese atrocities. That's CR- episode of I should do you. Who are you like bloodline or someone or not line loveless. It's like who do you. Who Do you think you are. Who you think you're yeah who the hell yeah no that show is It's the one that checks people's People's genealogy and like that show is that he's episode of the trip because roots finding your roots with with a skip gates hairless yeah yeah yeah okay but that one's a trip because his whole life he thought he was he was a quarter Javanese America or something and then and then he found that he was actually Korean but Japanese Korean or Korean court like his his grandfather Korean Japan had had a career career on the stage in Japan had Japanese stage team actually looking into the history. He's actually create this is also during the Occupation Korea. Japan would probably say they're all Japanese. No let's not go crazy story though yeah and then then actually BEF- before Rob Schneider Filipino yeah and has a has acknowledged and embraced that in various ways not not not necessarily somebody these days or you know we're raising the flag hi aggressively claiming but yeah so so nevertheless this is a milestone. Boeing Yang is the first Asian Casper that no one is going to be like oh he he's Asian Asian ladies clearly like like fito typically Asian right and last name Yeah Yeah Yeah I mean. This is kind of the running theme of this episode. At this point or Yang Yeah young passing. I will say speaking of Yang's right. I am Kinda wondering to what degree the the rise the arrival of you will Andrew Yang had anything to do with them deciding to impart anyway kind of like say you know we probably need somebody to play Asian. People roll like regularly now. I joked about twitter. I was like in the year twenty nineteen not that this would have stopped them before honestly because they've had I mean all manner of people playing like Weird Asians but I feel like this is Andrew. "Of the year. Three time all star saying that his titles, come from the big three and the hospital is ignorant and blind. That was to a caller an hour one. Loophole. Joe says I on Butler in Houston. It's a win win. It works or it's entertaining as you know what? Why t four USA on Twitter? Thank you for talking so much about the drama that is the NBA off season. So much better, the boring as baseball talk. Why think this Red Sox Yankees game is nineteen seventeen now or something like that? It's like a the first half of a jets patriots game. Good grief. Tons of runs being scored. Rob Schneider is all in on the drinking. Our? Zahed master says the Knicks have been nothing but dysfunctions and showing was done. I can't imagine any star going there unless they want the pay day. No one will go there to win as for Kyrie's, too great talent. Someone wa- from a max deal teams want to win trying to deal with that guy. Himmy up on Twitter at the real, gresh, GRE S H, and of course, on the phones and eight five five two one two, four CBS. We've been ripping it talking NBA free agency. There's been so many. Rumors it's finally here and any predictions, you got on where you think these guys are going to go. Let's hear them into all of it. You gotta team the you wanna highlight. Let's get after it, you oughta player you wanna highlight. Let's do it. You know, we're getting some rumblings. Now about. I'm just going to say about the two euro, big men, one staying in Orlando. One apparently, heading to Barscelona, which is a very interesting move. And that changes allot in the big in the big man market in terms of this NBA free agency. Let's get right back to the phones. Madden Seattle is next on the gresh show on CBS sports radio. What Matt how're you doing today? They can take my call. Sure. What's up? So I have a little bit of a hot take. I wanna say that. Everybody's free agent plans for this off season is completely wrong. That being said, this is why the injuries to claim Katie really hurt everybody especially those big market team, especially those teams have enough room for to super stars. Do I say that is the Knicks kidneys hurt? He's gonna be he's in his early thirties, you're gonna come back and the same player in is worth the money that you're gonna be paying him with this young core. Your got if I'm the Knicks, I'm going after two guys particular. I'm going out there. And I'm doing everything anything I can to get him now that might not happen now granted or after the ngelo Russell. Why wouldn't you go after young point guard who saw a lot of upside sort of lot of your ship last year with the Brooklyn? Nets who are very good team star with. He's coming to change it and going for the next, I think, is a horrible idea now. He's hurt. He's gonna be declining now great. He's gonna be a superstar but I don't like tasting. You kinda hit that earlier. What's expectation, you think Katie is gonna come with his younger group and win a championship in two or three years? I don't think they ever even get past ISA cats conference, or even get into the Eastern Conference final if he makes that team now if they were to get Joel Russell, and maybe not even get quite Leonard. I think that, that mixed team of heroes would be a way better team than about a couple years. Here's the math. Thank you, man. Here's the problem with what Matt rolled out. There's too much logic in there. And that doesn't work when it comes to these NBA GM's, because that's the way, I would be thinking, I would be very, very hesitant to turn around and give Kevin Durant, a max offer knowing that I don't know what he's going to be for another year. It's not the MRIs in the bothers me. It's although does, don't get me wrong. It doesn't bother me as much as the unknown of one in the hell is this guy going to be as he ages coming back from an achilles? And he's only gonna get older. That's very scary. I think that makes a very good point. The problem is he's such a transcendent star. And when he's right. There are so many people think so highly of him in the league as a player and rightfully so that they're gonna throw the money if the guy because you'd rather have him the not. And if you're the Knicks look, you've got to find a way to knock that ask James Dolan off the back page. And the way to do it is to bring in someone that's going to actually get people talking about the play on the floor. In fact, I would argue that the New York Knicks need to be the number one team on the hunt for Kevin Durant because I think we've all addressed this before there wasn't a Nick fan on the planet. The didn't think in some way, shape or form that they weren't going to end up with Zion Williamson every knick fan was in, in thinking, we suck. We've tanked it this year. We should end up with the number one pick that brings us I on, if they had gone, then all of the other stuff about the Knicks be knocked off the front page or the back page. And there'd actually be someone on the Florida. Get giddy about. I think that's why the Knicks have got to make this big push for K D, but mad you make a lot of sense and same for Klay Thompson. Now look, if Klay Thompson stays in Golden State with the team that drafted him where he has equity where people are familiar with his personality, and his work ethic, then I only get sad big a deal that you're keeping him around to rehab that need to be able to get right? Whereas Kevin Durant. He's older, he's going to go to another organization. You're not as with him. There's a lot more assumption of risk there Albert is in San Diego. And he's next on the gresh show. CBS sports radio, what up Al. And gresh. Thanks for taking my call anytime my friend. I have a comment and a question the comment is one Leonard is a great player. I was wondering what would have happened if Toronto would have gotten eliminated? Like in the first or second round playoff. I mean, they had a couple of close calls, I'm wondering if they would've eliminated or if the warriors have had, it would have been healthy. I don't think they had the Toronto would have had a chance to be a healthy warriors team if they would have gotten eliminated Toronto would there be all this hype right now about Kuwan or what have been forgotten if they would've lost in the second round all this hype? I mean, I think he had the perfect storm going for them this year. He's in a great position to basically demand anything, but I have to look at, you know, if, if he something would have happened, if they didn't win the championship or would have been eliminated, would there have been such hype about one Leonard? Yes. I n Albert that's a really good question. Very fair to ask. Can thank you, man. I appreciate yet. But yes, there would have been all the hype around Colli and Albert, thank you for the call. It's a simple as this coli Leonard when he went to Toronto was thought of as a winner. I know there are a lot of people and the in the San Antonio situation. Maybe still hasn't been completely resolved for the people, San Antonio, or maybe those in the Spurs organization, but he would not have been forgotten about nine don't think so at all he would have been you know, that, that was Toronto rolling the dice. However, I think the impact of Leonard is more on the mindset. Of those NBA general managers who would normally do stupid things and somewhat of argued the taking a player for one year like Leonard and taking the old kick the can that, that would have been if they didn't win, then that thought process would have been cemented even further, and it might have been more difficult to trade these players with just one year left on their contract, not knowing if they're really interested in signing there. So I think the real impact of choline Leonard is general managers, if they say, we think we're close, we're going to take a chance here, then let's go do it. Remember when the cell traded for Kyrie Irving, there had our Horford, they ended up signing Gordon Hayward in free agency, and they traded four kyri knowing the kyri had two years left. And if he would have opted in it would have been a thirty year on a player option. But that's a really good question. I don't think coli Leonard would have been forgotten about. But I do think you would have altered. The thought process of general managers head Toronto, not won the championship Dario in California next on the gresh show on CBS sports radio. What's up Dario? Hey, how's it going? Taking my going beautiful Saturday here in California. Excellent what do you have my friend? Go right ahead. Hey, so I wanna hear your take on this, but I wanna I wanna give my side of as well soldier from California Angeles. I wanna be your take on this. So me if I was Jan, if all the front office, I would approach this off season, two ways either, it's a wired bus, or we already got we already got AD. We have thirty two million and cafes build around him with the right the right players. The right weapons needed to elevate LeBron any D on then to earlier killer squad. And then people forget about how he's been working this off season with repo shooter. I'm sure you know of him, he's been working on his defense. He's going out there and really, really taking initiative. He's been in contact with middle piece. That's something that people are not getting more for don't blame them. But yeah, I see him really, really taking trying to be that third if we do build around them. So co wired bust. I wouldn't put my man my money on any other next there, I wanna know what, what your what would you what would you do. I would rival to go after. Ally. No question Dario. Thank you. Man. I appreciate glad it's great weather out there in Kelly. Coli would be number one, but kyri would be number two. And I spent all I've spent two hours in part, ripping Kyrie Irving, and what he did with the Celtics left a bad taste and a lot of people's mouths. However, he would be the third fiddle, there would be leadership on that team to wear kyri could go do whatever it is that he wants to go do. And there are other people to make sure that the roster doesn't fall apart of the people don't like the guy. Kowa and LeBron are very similar, and that's the part of those two plane together that I don't necessarily get unless LeBron is essentially going to be the point forward, which maybe is really what we should be calling.

He's eighty seven he's going strong every movie you've ever heard of that you've loved he he was there for he's telling me stories of young Silvester Stallone coming into his office and saying. Not rocky something else and Irwin is Danny live. Again, my office. Or what is like, okay. I could see guys got got writing chops. And then later on he throws he had some with rocky. And then Irwin is like I like this script and. He's like, and then Stallone says don't pay me, you don't need to my. But I wanna starring that's as legend has it. That's the star. But now the guy was sitting in the office tell tell me the story. So he saying don't don't pay me. I want to be a part of this. And he says, okay. And then later on Irwin takes it to, you know, Warner Brothers or whatever FOX or whatever the company was and they love the script. And now they wanna make it. And I saw flashback it was attached to the story today of a time because he does fill in some talk shows and stuff, and there was a time where he was doing an interview and he introduced the gas. It was rob Schneider. Okay. Rob Schneider had it in his brain. Even before the interview, I'm going to get Howie Mandel to shake my hand. It comes out how era rob Schneider, grabs Howie Mandel. "Quote. These are just words you dumb. And then the seaward he deliberate the seaward that deals with the female anatomy, the word that you're never allowed to say he deliberately used it. Rob Schneider now again liberal trying to make the point. The comedians need to have a backlash against all this crap that you can't say why can't I say the c word. Why can't Louis CK going question? Why a guy is taking advantage of a school shooting to throw his political point of view on. Why can't we go back to the old days where it's Katy by the door? And let's go out and comment and talk about everything. Now, my side doesn't get to set the rules because when someone my side says something controversial, it doesn't matter. What it is that we're said it's just used as an opportunity by people to try to ruin our careers. Nobody for example, came to the defensive rosette, even though Roseanne's commentary is fire less severe than some of these other things that some others did Roseanne has committed the cardinal set of supporting Donald Trump. So therefore, she doesn't get the second chances that some of the others get, but when some of these people that are on the left, I know told that s comedians they can't talk about sex. They can't talk about race. They can't talk about this Saturday the other thing and some of these comedians. Well, then what can we talk about? This is all we've ever done in comedy. This started with liberal slapping down and cracking down on everything. No one can make fun of anyone anymore..
