"To do that, and they had bill that time their business almost entirely through SEO and so. This is part of Chris and I in turn there. He was there. I joined the semester to after that. We just soak it up like sponges. What does it look like to market online? Look like fool work out search engines work. And, we use data to then feed into our retail business in our celebrity, slavery, fashion business, and our our on lead Gen business, and what each project that we did even though it may not have been as financially successful as we would have liked the key learnings within applied to that next business that next project and. All the way up until our interest comes to you know it seems to me. David. Got Really good at that marketing part in that almost took over everything else. So you stop making software consumer software anyway and started focusing on legion. You got good at doing search engine optimization. You understood it because you work with I. Guess. Monster. Group network solutions. Is that right? You were there and you said this is GonNa be our model and this was in the early `oughts two, thousand, three, two, thousand, six when there was a lot of money in. Legion, right? I would argue there's still a lot of money lead Gen, but it's but it's a, it's much harder market to get into at that time. If you're good at optimizing Meta tags, you could get to the top of the search engine. Now, you there few more features that you need to have to make that work. All right. Let me ask a question. That's a little too personal, but this is what I'm doing. How much money would you making back? Then two guys early on in their lives. So I think when we when we graduated we, we started college with fifteen hundred dollars in the back. By the time, we graduated I. Each had sixty Grand Avenue taxes. Okay. And so one of the things that I've recognized doing interviews here is. Thinking of this Guy Rob Ross, and he got really good at this type of product of. Doing, Seo doing lead Gen collecting payments. But it was empty and a lot of people just didn't know to leave it or early enough and move on what led you to finally say were good. But let's move onto to look for the next big thing. I distinctly remember dealing with the. People in the industry would call a Google dance to every thirty to sixty days. They changed their algorithm. We'd have to figure out how to dance with Google and like a dances in person, you don't WanNa step on anyone's toes. You WanNa. Keep to the be. You want to be dancing the right dance at the right time. We realize two. Fundamental truths that were that were in in opposition to each other one was that we happen to get in early in an industry that was taken off the online advertising space in the early hots the so nascent compared to where it is today. that. Just just by being in that market. In early face, we were able to see things that we wouldn't have seen. I like to say there are shots that you only see being on the basketball court. You can't see up in the stands on the sideline and at the same time. We also battled very difficulty with. How do you build a business on top of another organization's ecosystem? So. It's a great way to grow very quickly, but you also have the risks of what happens when they they changed their mind. Okay, we'll get into the path of answers, dot com before you. Now that I see that you're looking for something different. I read that you had a checklist of things that you wanted. Let me see if I could do remember it or do you want me to refresh your memory? I've had many checklists. So go go for it. I heard what you said was I want to have a brand this time. Right? Because if you're doing Lee Janu, not mastering your own brand, I wanted to be in the content space which I don't know why you want to be in the contents base. You wanted a huge addressable market that means that it couldn't be. Connected to one geographic location couldn't be connected, even one language or even one category. You wanted to have multiple streams of revenue including some recurring revenue. Right. This was like a checklist that you guys were put up on a whiteboard. My right. Let's jump at our Deloitte and go back in time to to the context. Yep. So we had a online retail website where we were selling celebrity fashion. So we were one of the big von Dutch resellers an example online. Were those much trucker hats that the celebrities were wearing for about fifteen minutes of in Los. Angeles huge body biggest Diane. Big in the skater seen big in the. All alt-left seen. So we ended up selling these products online, but we realized the retail models, very difficult, low margin on you end up with a lot of inventory At that time, you end up a lot of inventory, and so the only way we can make this work because if he can scale out to multiple brands. Started contacting additional companies, but we were a bunch of. That people didn't want to. Give the product and inventory to an so. What we did is we actually started. Placing pages up on the site around those brands before we even had any products..

"Don't even point to rob Ross floor. And in the end Foley in the discussion in K. C.. I call it the process. It's all all a process. It's the process of living when you believe in the possibility of everything everything becomes possible. And there's no limits it's your life is limitless when you go ahead and if you release the stuff that just holding you back and and stop worrying about what other people think of you you are or what the things that you fear in you start just becoming a doer. What I speak in high school I always tell the kids become doers? Stop talking about it do it right and then go make do all over the earth. They laugh you know. They think it's funny but it's true you know not add to that art is I call it imperfect action number. I can't take an action correct. It's not they won't do afraid so I use were imperfect action Richie zie breaking apart at actually says I'm perfect in we they are Islamist. Were living authentically. We are perfect Wa. We're living this who we are supposed to be. I know that you've Studied all kinds of different cultures and religions and all that and I don't mean this in a religious sense of the word but where does faith fit in your your life. Great question question and it's a question I'm with often actually. I grew up in the Christian church and by took a trip to Europe and did like sixteen different countries was able to be exposed and this was back when I was twenty one. Twenty two years old annum announce gratefully I was exposed to religion. And how it evolved over time and I saw the doctrine of the rules more war as a way to control society and it opened you owe like these are just rules that have been created down in in government like religion was really government and then I started to study much more around his men. You name it like tons and tons of different religions and what I found was that we all have or this senator this center higher power and then SOM- Tom Symbols of the perfect man or an enlightened man or now Jesus Buddha unique in what's interesting the way I see it now is what Jesus had available to him. We awesome have available so who do not live into your what my sole purpose in my calling in this lifetime. Okay so I see definitely. There's a higher power but I believe leave that way. Leave this body container. We don't die arsenal changes. There's other journeys that were on other lifetimes that we existed existent but I believe in the terminology of our existence. And I really believe that we're all in really believe why we are all from the same source and so in that when connected Amazon I see my fellow runs at call. Everyone friends whether I love that..

"My name's rob Ross, the CFO decorate, it's always interesting. Look at science fiction movies, and see how the futures depicted, because it ends up being relatively accurate going way back. If you look at total recall, there's actually seeing all sorts gets to self driving cab, which was farcical the time, and now is reality. If you look at the realities certainly see it minority report, the iron man sales of examples of augmented reality, making people more effective and efficient in what they do. So when we look at what we're doing we're bringing the future today. So Dachary specifically, I think that the market, the world ending up with mental reality, and kind of bringing Menton reality into every facet of life starting kind of the industrial enterprise markets is going to be pervasive. I don't think that we're on the fad vitamins trend is going to. This going to be pervasive for years and years to count the hardest thing about technology companies, especially from financial perspective is the fact that you're dealing in many cases with products or services, technology or software. That's never been in the market before. It's easy to get ahead of yourself to spend money on the wrong things. So financial management is critical startup. So the first thing is make sure you're well, funded second things have a business plan third thing is have projections. But no, that your projections are inherently going to be incorrect, but accept that as fact and use that as a guide, you can run the business, cash is king. So every decision you make every investment, you make of time effort, people resources it all has to. Asteroid the numbers. Right. So if you can't pay for it, you can't do it every decision. You make in life, everything you do all the times cost benefit. And that's really what being CFO's all about making those decisions about if this, then there's if not this.
