"If it met your job was safe. You gotta promotion more money. I guarantee you would agreed now. So alternately if the Lakers are good this station benefits. Yes, I means the ratings at night are better, which means that trickles over to the morning, which then trickles over to the mid day chores schmucks doing post game have a better show to talk about that trickles over to the afternoon. It's a trickle down effect if they're good when people are listening in bulk than generally all of a sudden, they're radio are still on this think actually a lot of listeners really realize just how much we have rooting for the Lakers, did you want them to be this? You want them to be good you want, because here's the thing Dave. Stern said it best and I'll just leave it at this. Okay. And I know people think the David Stern hates the Lakers, because he mixed the Chris Paul trade. But David Stern said it best the dream finals, the Lakers versus the Lakers. Okay. So they matter. So I know it's easy to get emotional and it's easy in this climate in today's day and age to just point the finger and yell, fake news and confirmation bias, because you want everyone to think the way you think that doesn't work in sports that doesn't work in politics that doesn't work in life. You don't you? You gotta want information, not affirmation simple as that coming up next. Let's explore. Some of these things that could be reality. Let's separate, what could be real. And what can't be real, particularly when it comes to potential meetings for the Lakers. We'll have that for you. Informants. Sit down a show here on. ESPN LA. Any cabinets key hanging out with us here today? Bobby marks gonna stop by an hour. We will talk to ESPN's NBA front office insider about the different possibilities. Macintosh that can happen with the Lakers cap space, Ramona's going to be in here at five forty actually I forgot to mention Tim Bontemps who covered in Toronto. And as you said, correctly predicted that the raptors would win the series also predicted before the season. The Lakers missed the playoffs. Tim Bontemps has been the oracle man. Yeah. So he's gonna stop buying fifteen minutes. We'll talk to him and then we'll, we'll talk to Bobby at five in an hour, as I mentioned, a Ramon at five forty so. Couple of things just to clear up some stuff here. We were talking about the potential three for the Lakers. And we talked about Kyrie being a possibility, and we talked about the Batman and Robin thing because I mentioned, well, you know, we know that he's a good Robin. But then you said we talked about how there's three guys. And how does that work and are Alfred the Batman folks? The folks who are super into Batman have told us that it should be night wing. Yes. Yes, nyc wing is the third person very familiar with. I have no idea about. Yeah. I mean, maybe I read a night wing comic or something when I was little, I don't remember night wing at all. I believe night wing is Robin. Well, he's the result ever lobby, retired rob gray, according to at Cisco rocks, dick, Grayson upon retiring became night-mating into comics there on fifth different version of Robin right now. Yeah. The I mean we need to call and bronze like if we're really going to get into the week. I mean we could I guess at some point. Today's probably not that. Let's be real here. I mean like would night wing be appealing to Cairo Irving people who know this stuff. Yeah. Probably not is my guess I don't know. Maybe today's not the day for night wing talked. But we do have one call on Batman and Robin Tustin. Are we onto something with night wing before we move on? You are you definitely are Robin became night wing. Also went on to lead young Justice and the team titans. And I mean he became his own hero in his own right in his own time. Gotcha..

"The team the flag bear of the conference last several years on deck, and I can't get over the fact that you know, Houston on the road this year. I mean, they got nice wins BYU and non conference planning, Oklahoma state. But I think this is their toughest road test of the season. So far at Cincinnati later in the year be by far the toughest. But right now this point UCF might be their toughest Rogaine we saw Houston in their only loss struggle against the temple team. And I'm worried about the length issue here average site for UCF, obviously with taco fall and whatnot top ten in the country and terms of average height Houston's well below average in that area. I like UCF, plus the one here pick them by price for me would actually be you know, if you're getting anything UCF minus one or dog for me, I take the goal nights. But. I'm anxious to hear the guy. That's you know, talking Houston basketball five days a week. What say you? Yeah. This one is tough for me because I've made the mistake of of fading UH a couple times. And they've burn me. I mean, that's a team that every time I think that they're gonna they're gonna run into some trouble. They've kind of worked their way around it. They did struggle a little bit against temple in in in the revenge game that they that they got. But here's the thing about UCF is good as they are in. And they're sort of in that cream of the crop of the AC, Houston, Cincinnati central flora temple, and maybe to a lesser extent. Memphis, south Florida. I mean, the the good teams in that conference. If given UCF some trouble, I mean, Memphis just destroyed UCF last week go back to the temple game a home game. It was a four five point win for temple. And you also got that weird loss at Wichita where Wichita couldn't beat anybody. And then suddenly. Just came in and stopped UCF. So I'm not sure what UCF is especially after that Memphis game. And then they struggled to beat you con and Yukon that's kind of one of the free squares in the AC days. So I I'm a lean on UCF because like you said the spot lines up and says UCF is the right sign, but you see if is not proven to be a team to me to take advantage of these spots. So it's only a lean not alike, and I just don't wanna be on the wrong side of UH again. That's that's kinda my my fear of getting deep on this game big picture Houston. Obviously, you know, came up a little short term because you know, as a Michigan team got hot and hit Alaska and shop for them this year, you know, big picture Houston. You know, what's, you know? How do they compare to last year and how far can this team go? I mean, God record twenty one and one straight up this Sweet Sixteen caliber team the brakes fall right can elite eight final four. What are you seeing with the Cougars? You know, it's tough. It's tough because he AC is is a tough conference and for them to be a Sweet Sixteen team. I think they're probably going to need to be a top three or four seed, which I if they run the table that that's entirely possible. I don't know that they're going to run the table. I think there's a lot lined up against him to do that as far as comparing this team to last year steam, I'll tell you they're they're better verse expectations been the team was last year. So this team I didn't expect him to be as good as they have been, you know, without rob gray. And they've proven me wrong. So they've got a lot of talent here. I think Armani Brooks is going to be the kind of he's gonna he's kind of the guy who if they're gonna go anywhere. He's going to really have to continue to step up and carry the load with this team. But they're a pretty deep team. And they think that they are a second weekend kind of team fair enough. I might point would be. Yeah. I think they're legitimate. And it's not like one of these teams are they number thirteen in the country. Good. No. But I do my own powering..

"Of your locally owned super cuts today. All series as we talk about Houston at Memphis, forty eighth meeting today. Tigers lead it thirty two to fifteen and it won't actually twenty five in the last thirty three encounters, including eight three advantage in the last eleven meetings between the two schools, I six meetings of non conference matchups back in the fifties. The first one December eighth of nine hundred fifty six sixty sixty s are also a big arrow for the Tigers. They played a couple of times in the eighties and went by David the by slamma Jamma air. The Tigers played a number of times during the eighties baby stopped three straight. Final fours chances for the Tigers resumed in the nineteen nineties and they played every year since nineteen ninety four ninety five and CompUSA pack a big advantage twenty four nine in favor of the Tigers at the American the series has shifted over the rivalry. Has gone on as well. The Tigers the account of fought back. They got it down to three Houston other six nothing. Rhonda go up by nine. And then Jeremiah Mark was agered in that game. Suffered an ankle injury had to leave the basketball game the Houston Cougars. I took advantage of mmediately. He came back out of boot later Mark get returned to the game in the late and went to thirteen for Houston. Forty three to thirty first half of the Tigers scored the last. We'll talk about his record quickly. He is of course, ninety five year at Memphis, aided five non conference wanna know against the American. He has no record all time. It gets Houston. No record against their head coach Kelvin Sampson. Kevin sampson. Not a very good record. "Tony, bad luck. Join me before the Tigers sake on the Houston Cougars here in Houston, Texas, and couch. Oh, I true road game in the conference for the Tigers this year and pretty tough environment. You're going into. Yeah. We're excited about you playing against top twenty minute country heard sold out today. So we're excited. We're ready for the opportunity Houston team. When you look at them. You think gosh, how could they be undefeated in as good as they are because they're not imposing? But this is a team that plays well together. Well, cokes effort has done a great job of putting your system in play. These guys really know their roles they have two big time shooter slash sports in the guys inside rebounders monster. So they do a great job of running their system. Great indication of giving a coach in time to get assisted in. Now. He's got his players in his system is there and gap plugs guys in and then they just take off a boy exactly and the culture's been set. They play so hard, and they do all the things that you want your team to do in most important for them if they defend their they're probably talked about three or four different defensive category. So they're really solid team. That's the things people will realize I did they play on defense. Yeah. They do. They hold him guys to with thirty five percent or something like that from the field. And and they really holding guys only scoring fifty eight fifty nine points a game. So they do a really good job, and they play very very hard. And they come to entire ninety four feet. They do. They're really good officer rebounded team. They're gonna win shot goes up. They're going to try to get multiple sessions by getting a rebound. So we know we don't have to put a body on somebody block out last year. Rob gray was a guy that kinda carry the offense. What a great year he had and the gas kind of secondary rose last year. Now, those two Gazza stepped up they've got to shooters outside naming gas. I'm telling you Davison in Brooks are guys that can put up big time numbers. I mean, they can go off with thirty. So we know that we have to be locked. Dan, and focus, and we can't give them anything easy. Great point guard Gaylon Robinson. He's been here. A couple of years now really settled into the offense. And he pushes that ball in transition and makes him go. Yeah. He runs team attainment. He does everything. He's he's playing thirty two thirds three minutes a game. And everything kinda goes through him, the leader that team he gets everybody involved, and he can he can get into pain and and make himself if force teammates very hard to turn him over his ratio city, sixty six twenty three turns as great race is really good. And he's said he only turned the bottle about one and a half times the game. So he's he's really solid. He's really solid. He's one of those guardsman that you that you would love to play with because he's got to get you the ball in the right position. They not gonna turn it over Corey is really blossomed his last year. He's come on great pre point shooter. Does a lot of things for him as well. He does he puts it on the floor. He can get to the basket has a really good mid range games. We have to stay down his shot fake. But he can really shoot the ball inside. The they got a couple of guys Brady radius senior, he's kind of I guess thirty man he doesn't screen and do some things. Warm rebounds. It dead score tremendous amount of very solid all all-round. He is he's a beast, man. He I mean, he really officer rebounds and he runs and he seals and he defends lefty and trying to get to that right shoulder. So we know that it's a great test. Was we're excited about it. And I must say anytime, you go and paint on national TV and painted a hostile environment. It gets top twenty. You've gotta be excited about that. Tony very good rebounding team. They're not a big club. But they kind of gang rebound. They do Alexei because they're inside guy. They're not sixteen sixty seven, but they just play so hard in the so physically defensively would go back to that predominant. He's been a man to man guide. I tell you the pick and roll they defend it. Well, they really come on the defensive end they do. And that's why the numbers are so good defensively. They're gonna all ice ball screens. And they're gonna they're gonna hit some balls green. So we know that we're gonna have to be on point. It was I really have to execute outfits. We come in tonight. Now, the freshman first time on the road in the conference play. We we talked about it at home how much more tonight, they'll get tastes. They will. And it's up that we can we can only talk about, but they have to limit that they have to see you. So we're excited about it. And I think these guys are excited case, Tony I thing, I guess you gotta go the free throw line on the road tonight against this team because I put up so many numbers from well, you're gonna have to we're going to have to get into lane. And one thing that we've talked about on winning this game. One of the keys is we're going to have to get to the free throw line at a high level, and we'll have to make layoffs excited. Those what it's all about your team undefeated going to knock him off. Will you think about this? Now, they won twenty seven straight games it here. So that's that's something that hasn't been done for by a lot of programs for them to do that is really special show. It's a great opportunity for us coach, thanks for your time. And let's get a win tonight over the Houston Cougars. All right. Thanks, matt. Tony Matlock assistant coach at the university of Memphis when we come back. We'll talk about the keys to this afternoon's game. This has meant was tiger basketball from learfield. Everybody wants to be. In the play offs. Tiger fans. Want you to know that Incorp south? "But I I just love that Samson, basically, rob gray everyone thought that was gonna be the man bun. The time the good times for Houston. He basically said forget all that. We get better players coming in. We're trying to win a title. They they they lost. Rob grade that lost Evan Davis. They bring back three starters. They're still going to have a pretty good team. So Sampson was he talking about the NCAA tournament. Or are you talking about the American tournament? When says we want to win the tournament. He was talking about hopefully, the United States. Can you believe you? Yes. I love it. We we we love brash coaches bu-, again, this feels like a quote that when when juiston aren't a seven years from now when Houston's been to one more Sweet Sixteen in the next seven years and people are like Kelvin Sampson should be fired and Kelvin Sampson goes what that's bullshit. I've we're winning twenty games every year. The a, quote, you're gonna point two also feels like a thing where Patino and some of these other guys are getting ousted right now, the keep pointing at Sampson there, like what about sadism what about Samson, though, we'll say as as a as a a man who, you know. I've I grew up in Indiana fan. I keep close. I think you gotta rock deal. I don't know. Got a raw deal because he did fuck up and he knew he was cheating, and he knew he was cheating, and it's he had to get fired and especially to place like Indiana win. It was still two thousand eight was still a time. When like Indiana fans were undecided on how they felt about Bob Knight. He wasn't a complete piece of shit yet. And it was still like, well, we it's it's a complicated thing. Whatever like at this point. I think most infants are like all right? Screw that guy. But at the time people still had some a soft spot in the heart for night who above all else stood for following the rules and all that kind of stuff. And that was like the culture of Indiana basketball was like we might not win a lot of games Kentucky might be interested on the recruiting trail. And they might be beating us their ass on the court and all that kind of stuff, but Kentucky cheats, and we know they cheat. And we don't cheat. And that's more important to us. We have integrity. We have Tegel Tate territory so Sampson he knew he was cheating. He cheated. He deserved to get fired. But now looking back, what do you actually have fired for is actually legal now, which is kind of funny, which is kinda funny. Yeah. So it's not as bad as it sounds, and then also at the time Bob Knight was only ESPN calling out John cale. And all the other people for cheating. Right..

"I challenge anybody to find a better lineup of coaches that they used to be your name would define who you are as a person. And I liked it back there. You know back in those days. It definitely did press. Mayor MICH loves the press the press loves to have like a five hundred record and let us on score forty seven points again. Break. She people talking about president or like, dude, you're record sucked. He's like my record might we have all the records. My record is this. We could look at my son record. Also clips in. I just wanted to say Brad Brownell? He came back said he had a, you know, make it happen. And then he gets a contract extension. And then Mitchell comes back read comes back, the rank number twenty two first time since oh nine during the reason raking and just I'm going. Yeah. In ROY Williams said at a z media days, they're the best defensive team in the which I think is always try to find a style for a team like something that they can kind of hang their hat on. And it's always been a great defensive game. And I talking about autumn Brad. I, yeah, we we make these point all the time that more than anything. I I wanna culture out of a program. But you know, I want I want you Bharti. What's happening right now. I want to culture, I want an identity, and and the the the the programs in college basketball, the coaches that I don't believe in are the coaches that have been around for a while. And you have no idea what they stand for. They're just kind of throwing shooting at the wall, hoping some sticks. And yeah, Clemson has an identity at this point. So the stands very, yeah. Moving on number forty seven to team. I actually just mentioned with the with the Michigan situation. Houston the shoes to coup best season since nineteen Eighty-four best seasons since defy slamma. Jamma last year, rob gray with the man bond with his brother having the man bun had a great year came to a tragic end when swaggie pool hit the the buzzer beater, the improbable buzzer beater, and then say tournament shot that he said he already envisioned it fine. He knew that it was going to go. And I guess that's if you take solace that if you're Houston fan is that you you understand that this was this was preordained wacky pool from the moment swaggie PU was born he was destined to make that shot. So there's nothing you could have done differently. It was always going to happen that way. But yeah, Houston, you know, I I made the point I'll make it again that that Houston had a team as we saw with Michigan like Samson the could've won the the could've gone to the final four. I don't think it's unrealistic to say that they were good enough last year. And and I mean, they did lose their best player coming into this year. But Kelvin Sampson is has some cooking Tate. I have I have I wonder how he's doing it to the he's a guy that works, really hard. And you know, how it is with Samson. Here's a quote for him that I love the goal. Here is not to make the tournament says Goldman Sampson the goal here is to win the tournament. Wait what? Now, we move forward. That was from his media day. I love it. And I think most people were trying to give them a little layup. And they're gonna say, hey, Kelvin things are going great for you guys. Like, you got the they got twenty five million dollar practice practice facility. Just built for them. I think they renovated their arenas. Well, yes. Owners of the rocket. What are their names for Titi for Tinto? Nice for Totta. Nice something like that Tillman. They made this whole thank heaven for us. So they got a lot of money down. There. We talked about Texas money. We joke about. CCUS MU Houston's the team that was a sleeping giant that weekend. There. I on and Kelvin's make it a half. Now three straight twenty one seasons for Samson and again, Jordan full shot. And there's no telling how long run could have been. And then they got one of my favorite recruits in North Carolina. That's a freshman this year. It was his name Natan from gastonia North Carolina houses from gastonia who's that James worthy Hassan Whiteside. Just just. James worthy. A lot of talent. He's a guard, but basically James worthy same thing..

"Yeah, yeah. I concur with them. There will be just so much different like challenges and obstacles within the show, but then like mid season to get so bad. And then season three, it would just be like, I, I don't know that happened. I like to do more twin peaks videos. But episode, I episode we just wouldn't be able to do it. It would have been cool to do it while it was on, but it was viewing. It was airing same time game of thrones season seven. So it was just impossible now isn't code up then? Yeah, the whole thing and I had to watch them on Monday. I couldn't even watch them on Sunday, but stays. Yeah, it was fun though. Them both going at the same time. I do love that gift than Meam aggressive where Dale Cooper was like, it's like after watching watching twin peaks after game of thrones or watching game of thrones after twin peaks and his stale Cooper. And he's like, what is this kindergarten today plus me? Is that respectable move? Or is stupid move? When peaks tweeted tweet? That's when peaks day to forgot about that. I don't think it's a stupid move because I don't think it's the same audience. Nobody. Watched twin peaks anyway because they aired eighteen episodes game of thrones did seven. So they were on for like six weeks before game of thrones came on. And then they were on like four weeks after game of thrones. So. Just nobody watched it anyway. So I don't think they were like, yeah, we could take these. No, because you couldn't take on anything. It's hard knocks. Got a question year from manic wolf HD at manic wolf HD. "Well that's a really good point you bring up about makara falling out because trevan blew it was not good in this game and he wasn't all that great against texas southern either and this is something that i looked to capitalize on a little bit from alive standpoint from a derivative standpoint is you know you in this ncw turn it we've seen this with some teams there i know texas tech is definitely been one with keenan evans and they were worn all year but if you look at villanova for example in that game against alabama you know and you've got diva genzer who's really carrying them in the first half then all of a sudden bridges wakes up and think becomes an absolute blowout so villanova's got multiple guys to go to when you look at other teams out here they don't have that i mean purdue give purdue credit for that gritty win over butler without isaac haas you know kind of worry of texas tech keenan evans going to fall trouble and that's what sixteen games that may be a good opportunity to bet against the red raiders duke has a lot of options this texas and i'm have a lot of scoring options if you know whoever their primary guy is struggles against michigan i don't know if that's the case gonzaga we saw them against ohio state they have plenty of options they have lots of guys that can score the basketball for them so that's something i think is really important to keep an eye on here as you bet pregame for the sweet sixteen games and as you look to do some live and derivative stuff is that that you have to consider here what happens if a team has one or two guys that get into fall trouble you know for nevada if the martin twins getting a foul trouble what happens to them illustre kogyo because every possession that game is going to matter a ton nevada has that fall trouble we may have an eleven in the elite eight you know so that's something you really have to look at here in this turn amount especially because when you have these games that get down to the wire and you'll get it with houston for example with rob gray everything goes through rob gray if robbery is not on the floor or can't be as aggressive because he's got four falls i'm looking to play against houston in that.
