"Time 45 here in the Bay Area, And if you're just starting your summertime weekend hope you have a safe fun weekend. Glad you're with us for Giants baseball on the radio. 11 pitch from Scherzer and way it takes again off the inside ball to our game time attempt sponsored by U C S F health redefining possible So under way from D. C. The Nationals, not a great team this year with Max Scherzer on the mound. There are very good team. One pitch. Wade hits a high foul off to the left, and that one's going to slice back into the seats and out of play. Kyle Schwarber, the left fielder for the Nats Tonight came over gave it a look beyond his reach. It's two and two Schwarber and left Victor Rob Bliss in center want Soto in right? Faster at third, Turner Short Mercer at second Bell at first with homes catching For the Nationals two and two shares shakes off his catcher a couple times now finally has the pitch he wants. Here's the two to and it's a curve off the outside three to Manuel Junior, the gents have found a leadoff hitter here who can work account. I have a lot of hitters who do that, But not way it's fit in nicely in this spot. First hit of the game, and it's 32 sure, Zer delivers Wade swings and drives one down the left field line Schwarber all the way back to the edge of the track underneath it to make the catch. The first out. Wait. He made sure her work for it there, But he ultimately is first out of the game, and up comes Brandon Belt. Wade Belt and Posey here. In the top of the first inning in Washington, D. C. James first trip to D. C in a couple of years, of course, last year, no travel beyond To Western divisions. First pitch to belt is a curve and that one misses outside for ball one. Let's have a little bit of success against Max Scherzer in the past, Brandon Crawford's The guys get the best history against him. One pitch. That fastball called the strike on the inside. It's one and 1 94 miles an hour. That's about Scherzer's average fastball. Velocity. It's not like he's at least any longer. An elite. Picture in terms of velocity, but he's still very elite in terms of performance. 11, and he just misses outside there with the fastball two on one. Chance got Brandon Belt back in Arlington, Texas, coming off the injured list. He made an immediate impact had a big game. First game in Arlington Belt swings here and fouls this one to the backstop. Got his two and two Just getting started from Nationals Park in Washington, where it looks like it's a at least at the start. It's not a big crowd, and you could understand why I would think some people would be reluctant to Leave home, leave the office whatever and head into the ball park before they were sure.

"To seeing. You know the Buccaneers handle business on on Sunday, He chose the Buccaneers. He's picking them. So go out there and when the Super Bowl What else is new? We had a conversation about Tom Brady his commitment to physical fitness. Tom Brady himself even admitted and said, Listen, I I would definitely consider playing past 45. This is what Tom Brady had to say. Yesterday during media Day. Yeah, definitely. Um, I would definitely consider that And you know again, I think against a physical sport and just the perspective I have on that is You know, you never know. Kind of win. You know that moment is Just because it's a contact sport, and there's a lot of training that goes into it again. It has to be 100% commitment from myself to keep doing it. Well, he's been committed up until this point. No reason to think that he's going to stop or slow down now. Tom Brady turns 44 years old in August. Tom Brady has a two year contract. If he wants to play past 45 years old, he most definitely can. So I Taylor. He said he's committed to his diet he's committed to his body. He has made sacrifices that the majority of players, not just quarterbacks. He's made sacrifices The majority of players will not do. And that's why he's achieved some of these things that he's able to do right now. This moment now I Taylor just ask him about the Super Bowl. A couple of weeks ago. A few weeks ago, he made a comment about his former quarterback. His former teammate, Big Ben Rafel, is Burger, he basically said. That it's probably time for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Ben Rafel is Burger. To part ways. All good things must come to an end. He believes that the Steelers they are a loyal organization, and they will stick with Ben Rafel is Burger. The quarterback that they drafted 11th in the year 2000 and four the man who was the offensive rookie of the year, even though he came out of the same draft class with Phil River, so with an Eli Manning a gentleman who were drafted prior to him. Ben Rafel is burger in his own right? He's not 43 years old. He turns 39 years old next month. And we know how the season just went. For the Steelers. This team started off 11 and oh, The season ended at 12 and four They ended up losing to Washington and Buffalo and Cincy and we know what happened in that playoff game against Cleveland, where Cleveland was basically I don't want to say they were dead in the water. They obviously were not. But the odds were stacked against the Browns. When you think about injuries you think about Cove it the fact that they didn't have their coach out there. Cleveland killed them in the wild card round of the playoffs. 48 to 37. It's like the wheels totally fell off of Pittsburgh's bus part in the punch, a big shouts to Jerome Bettis, but the wheels fell off the bus for the Steelers. And they have question marks going into next season. But to pre Is he going to return and he was injured to end the year Juju Smith Shuster at wide receiver. He probably danced his ass on on his way out the city. Who knows And so we know it and balls down to money here. You have. Quarterback, and Ben Rafel is Berger, who has two Super Bowl rings. He's the youngest Super Bowl winning quarterback. He got it done in 2000 and six at 23 years old when they went over the Seattle Seahawks. He's going into the hall of Fame there no ands, ifs or buts about what Ben Rob Bliss Berger has meant to the Pittsburgh Steelers, a team that has been built and it has a reputation. For continuity for not making rash decisions for not going from one thing to the next door thinking about what's across the street how they can match it. The Steelers do things their way. And quite frankly, the Steelers have had success. You heard I. Taylor, former two time Super Bowl champ with the Steelers talk about the Rooney family. Talk about how just the ethics that they have. And so the question is. When you have been Rafel is Burger. 39 years old. This is going to be another time for transition for the Steelers. Ben Rafel is Burger is not going to be the quarterback forever. They just signed Dwayne Haskins, who knows what he turns out to be. He may not even make the roster. He may not even make the team, you know. Best case scenario he backs up big Ben Rafel is Burger. That's not that's not set in stone. So there so many question marks about the Steelers in their future, But obviously AH lot of it Bulls down to the star quarterback. Ah, lot of balls down to the centerpiece. The most important player On the team. That's rob Bliss, Berger and so for a man who threw for 3800 yards 33 touchdowns. You would say that's pretty damn good. But he had to do it all. They had no running game. It didn't matter if Connor was available. It didn't matter if he was hurt, then Rafel is Burger at almost 40 shouldn't be throwing the football 50 times a game just to go out and win. We have no idea what his wide receiving group is going to look like next year. In the big picture. With Ben Rafel is Burger is obviously related to his contract. He said. To make $34 million If the Steelers were to decide to move on. He comes with a $41 million salary cap hit. Console you right now. This moment, regardless of whether the Pittsburgh Steelers decide to bring back Ben Rafel is Burger or not, they are still a team in transition. Probably missed their best opportunity to go ahead and get another Super Bowl in the Ben Droplets Burger era this past season. They probably missed the boat. They.

"We're having a conversation about big Ben Rafel is Burger. I mean, the man was On the sideline after the beat down at the Browns gave him yesterday. 48 to 37. Then rob Bliss. Berger was in tears. Saying he was boo we we saw some water flowing from his eyes and I'm not mad at him. I'm not one of the guys that goes. Oh, there's no crying or, you know he's needs to be. You know, he's less of a man. No, Come on. This is what this man has been doing this whole life. The lost suck the lost of the Browns. You have to think about how many more opportunities you're gonna have doing this for your career. How many people have a chance to make millions of dollars playing a game? Not too many. Be sad if I had to go home and wouldn't be able players well, so we'll see. Now, having said that. Steel is it's time to start like looking towards the future. Ben Rob Lowe's burger cannot be your quarterback forever. He's getting ready to turn 39 years old. The team started off 11 unknown and it's not all been. Rafel is Berger's fault, but The last seven games that he's played. He has 10 interceptions, including the four that he threw yesterday and having to throw the ball almost 70 times. Not all his fault. A lot of aspects that you can look towards, but he ain't gonna last forever. Whether you draft the quarterback Whether you trade for a quarterback you take on one of the quarterbacks that nobody wants any more. Stafford Needs a change of scenery. Maybe a Donald These are the questions and the steel is a known for continuity. But guess what. About time for a new quarterback. Something that we haven't seen since 2000 and four the phone lines here 855 to 1 to four. CBS. Let's get your thoughts. I think Big Ben's time. I know he has one year left on his contract, but Time's up. Joseph from Baltimore. You are CBS Sports radio. What do you think about the Steelers and their quarterback situation has been done. What's up? J R? How're you doing, man? I'm good. Go ahead. Yeah, man, Big Ben's done. He's been done. I mean, like, Let's be real. Here they went. What 11 and five um This year on that 11 know was was was suspect It was It was a very easy schedule. They had a lot of covert issues, bailing him out. Um I mean, he looked he looked. He looked very good this year. But It's time to move on. They should have been moving on. A year ago two years ago, they should have been looking for his replacement. Mean name name of quarterback who was drafted in 04. Who's still a Super Bowl contender. Wait. Well, we're gonna be here for a long ass time. You You can continue with you. Whatever. Your last point, exactly, So I mean, it's time to usher in a new era. You gotta follow suit. Just like My Ravens did just like the brown bid. I mean, the browns of the Browns, but they just whooped your ass last night, so Okay, well, that that's okay. Well, that's a little bit easier. Said I don't know if I'd compare and thank you. Joseph, according from Baltimore. A little bit easier if you want to think about Joe Flacco, Okay? Um, a little bit different. If you want to think about the Browns and how many quarterbacks they've had to go through. None of these teams. None of the two that you mentioned were necessarily running around with Two time Super Bowl winning Surefire Hall of Fame quarterback. That's where Ben Rafel is Berger's going. Those are the fax. Let's not compare their situation to somebody else's and before the elbow injury, he also still happen to be a quarterback that put up 5000 yards before his elbow got ripped to shreds. Tony from Pittsburgh. How you feeling about your quarterback? Hey, What's up? J R. I told you when you told me to call you back Total embarrassment. They got their ass with It's time for change. I'm talking about even with the office of coordinator stinks. After been together. Altogether. Thinking quarterback quarterback to can think. Road. And the real mobile. Okay is over. Or you know what's gonna happen The way too broad amuse. The Browns was in last place. That's where we'll be. It's only from Pittsburgh called up, and he said it. Thank you so much, Tony for calling up. Yeah, and I like the word people are starting to understand Mobile. That's where the game is going. I mean, you're going to be hard pressed to find somebody that's going to stand back there and just take the hits and take the abuse like Ben Rafel. Is Berger dead. And Sony is correct. Full of those ears that the Steelers were handing out the beatings. The Steelers can figure out their quarterback situation in the future. That's not to say, Let's be realistic here. What are the odds? That you find another quarterback. Just right away. Was going to be a successful has been Rafel is Berg Awas? You know, if you're the Indianapolis Colts, maybe you get lucky. Maybe you you go from Peyton Manning, and you go to our luck. That ain't in the cards for everybody. When we come back, I'll continue to take your phone calls. And, as Tony just said, the Browns may start handing out the beatings and a big shout out some props to Baker Mayfield. More vehicles plus love the baker Mayfield when we come back, how about that? It's the general sport Brief show here on CBS Sports Radio. It's time for a news flash with Erica Herskowitz. See me? Yes. Where sports flag..

"Done winning football games with Ben Rafel is Burger Do I think when I go out in favor them tow win another Super Bowl to give Ben Rob Bliss, Berger three. No, I wouldn't. Better on Ben Roethlisberger retiring before he goes out and wins another Super Bowl. And so for the Pittsburgh Steelers, I think you got all you could get. Have been robbed Bliss. Berger. I think you got all you could get for a quarterback selected in 2000 and four he went 11th. He won your Super Bowl young He won. You want in the middle, But now I think the time is up, and I think the Steelers need to start looking for the future. They need to start looking to the future. They need to start identifying whoever is going to be their next quarterback. Been Rafel is Burger. Maybe he can rock it out for one more year. What the Steelers need to start thinking about the quarterback position, right? Now. You're listening to the J. R sport brief show right here on CBS Sports Radio. To take your calls. As I always do. That's 855 to 1 to four. CBS does 855 to 1 to four. CBS. The Steelers were embarrassed last night. Are the Cleveland Browns. 48 to 37. Been robbed Bliss. Berger getting ready to turn 39 years old. Questions. Are you going to come back and play? Do you still enjoy playing? My question to you all out there is do you think the Steelers have done? "Did Ben Rob Bliss? Berger show you enough in the second half and that comeback win over the Colts to believe that he's rectified his own personal issues. And the Steelers are back toward they were when they had that long winning streak to start the season. I don't think it was him as much as it was the design of the offense and I've been critical of the offense for the entire season. I think all those little baby crossing routes they run, okay. They're good to run once in a while, but on and on and on, and it kind of became an extension of their run game. I mean, you have games Where you just Miss Schuster had six for 28. Yards Receiving. That can't happen. And part of the problem is the offensive line isn't good enough. They can't run block. They've been good and pass protection. They can't run block. So you're forced to throw the football make that short passing game your run game, But when you saw the second half against Indianapolis They can drive the ball. He can drive the ball. The outside Johnson got down the field. He's got speed. Claypool get down the field, so I think that's what Mike Tomlin saw and I think going into the postseason you go tell Officer coordinator Randy Victor. Do what you did in the second half of the game against Indianapolis. Get those big chunk plays and then we can run the ball. Hopefully run the ball with the lead in the second half. "Well, luckily, my partner has been a smoking hot lately. On the odds, couple. Mike North was great again Last week, I had one bad pick and one bad beat. Although in the bad beat, it was the obvious right decision. There is no way the cardinal should have lined up and tried to kick that extra point. Because on Lee, uh, some sort. I mean catastrophe is the only thing that could happen that would have cost in that game. So When they kneeled on it up to trying to cover 2.5 Point spread. I kind of sensed it was coming after the touchdown. Like Yeah, This isn't gonna go well, I'm not going to get the point I need so that was a little bit of a bad beat. But, hey, it is what it is. Will try to bounce back after two rough weeks. But Mike has been great. We will have the odds Couple tonight from seven until eight. Here on ESPN 1000. But Jeff Mike joins us Now for the bonus play on the Carmen in your co show, Mikey, What's up, buddy? You don't have to explain nothing up there. How would you like to have had my star folks at the beginning of the year where I was looking at Carmen and saying, you know, will I ever win a game? But you know, things have completely turned around. Two Saturdays ago. Time I win. I go on to, But then I went three in a row that Sunday three in a row last Saturday, three in a row on Sunday, and then I can't put off picking Minnesota. On Monday only because the Bears were playing their second string quarterback and because the ex offensive coordinator for the Bangles was calling the place for the Bears. "They're they're still getting it done. We had this conversation last week. When you look at the NFL and and how positions have changed and the athleticism and you have Ah, Tom Brady. You have a breeze. Guys who are still traditional pocket passes. Rivers, Rob Bliss, Berger, When you look at the position and just the NFL in general, do you see us moving into a space where I don't wantto Compare it to basketball, where you have to be multidimensional that the pocket passer is is going to be required to have to step out Maura, often and not Yeah, I don't think there's any question and you know it kind of stems from, you know, what are you getting out of the college game, too? You know, there's a lot of packing pocket passers and in the end right now. And so I think what you're seeing NFL teams do it. Hey, let's adapt to what we're getting out of the college game and, you know, let's implement. You know some of the stuff that they're doing to take advantage of those types of quarterbacks with the athleticism guys that can run. And make plays on the ground. And you know, at the end of the day what really matters Well, it matters that you're scoring points. Right. And so, you know, I think you see that all over the NFL. There's not a lot of young guys that you just stand into the pocket and have a great pocket presence. And I just don't see that very much. And I think that's the big reason why, but You know, I think if you have one, you know you ride that guy and obviously drew still playing in a very high level. You know, this is like you said, this offense is still Eyes still scoring a bunch of points. They're moving the ball up and down the field. Last night was the first time we've seen this offense fully healthy since week one. And you kind of got a chance to see a little taste of what this group is capable of when they're full power. So You know, I don't know if the next quarterbacks going to be a pocket passer, but I know for the rest of this season. The Saints fans hope that we've got a pocket passer back there and Drew Brees. Yeah, absolutely. Zack Street is on the line with us Former Saints offensive line and current play by play. He is the voice. Of the Saints. Well, Zach, when you take a look at the NFC South, and in total, we know it balls down to the bucks and is going to bowl down to the saints, and you can literally look at the bucks and say, Okay, you got an all Star team over here. You've got a lot of talent. You have tons of talent with saints, but obviously there's there's more continuity there. How do you see the rest of this year playing out in the NFC south as we go into the playoffs? Well, I was going to be a battle. I think Camp obey, you know, incredibly talented team of sin. They're making my flip chart for the game. And then you almost like, laugh. You know, as you as you make it so that you can only have six skill players on the field at one time and You know, Tampa Bay has has a lineup where there's the All Six of those guys are pro bowlers. Three of them have been all pros and, you know, two of them are sure Fire first ballot Hall of Famer is and probably a third one. So You kind of look at that. Oh, my gosh. You know, it's it's pretty incredible what they've assembled. But football is a different game, you know, And I think there's a reason why you've never seen an NFL team successfully kind of assemble. That amount of talent in a year and make a run, And I think that it's going to be hard for Tampa Bay. Listen, Tampa's gonna win more football games. They're going to put up numbers. They're going to bear somebody at some point this season. You know, there's just too much talent in that group. And as continuity continues to build, I think they'll get better. But I really feel like this game was really big for the NFC South. Matchup it it's essentially like winning a game and a half. You know you got Tampa Bay now has lost two of their three games to the same, the same told the head to head tiebreaker. And so you know, a tie doesn't get it done for the buccaneer. So I think the same turned good shape. I still think the same of the best team in the NFC South. I think they certainly proved that last night. Now they play the Buccaneers again in the playoffs. I'm not. I'm not betting the farm on a 35 point win again, but I think they showed And I think people saw last night what the Saints are capable of when they put all three phases together, and it's pretty impressive Watch. Absolutely a Zach Strief is joining us former state's offensive lineman Voice of the Saints When you think about this year, just a big sense. There were no preseason games. Everybody has to deal with Colvin. Just game the game week. The week day today you played in the league for 12 seasons. You retired a couple of years ago. How difficult is this isn't a matter of okay. We got a few weeks in. Let's just ball out, or is this strenuous all the way through for the players out out there on the field? I think it's not only strenuous for the guys on the field. I think it's been strenuous for the people that are operating in the building. You know, there's a lot of pressure right now. No different than normal people. You know you are I You know, You don't want to catch anything right? You're kind of afraid to go anywhere. I know for me. You know if I if I test positive for covert, That's two weeks I can't call games. There's not exactly guys sitting on the bench waiting. You know, toe fill in and Andi. I think that everybody in the league right now feels that that amount of pressure you know for the players, and I think what Shaun pain has always been very good at the Saints have always really thrived in Kind of unique scenarios. You know you're evacuating for hurricane or, you know, for some reason, you've got to go out..

The Pittsburgh Steelers just found a way to get it done today. Yeah, The house Cowboys in that first half were really running a muchmore clean and efficient. They were much better. But it was at the end of the day. The end of the first half. Pittsburgh goes down and puts points on the board in a two minute drive, and then the unexpected. Pick by Mika Fitzpatrick puts them back in scoring position. And it's Mason Rudolph, who leads for another three point the end that half and then the second half. Garrett Gilbert, who had a nice first half for the Dallas Cowboys, really struggled in the second on Ly going for 13 of 27, with no TIA touchdowns and a pick. Ben Roethlisberger winds up over 300 yards passing and three touch sounds good to get out after having to go to the locker room late in the first half with an apparent knee injury, and the Steelers capitalized. The Cowboys made mistakes in Pittsburgh made him pay for it. Yeah, There's one specific Siri's that comes to mind where Pittsburgh comes out and goes three deep balls three and out, But they get a new fresh set of downs when Jalen Smith on the blitz, puts his hand and been Roethlisberger's face for a personal foul roughing the passer. That change kept that Dr Alive and the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to put points on the board and find the way to win late. To the Cowboys, who use their fourth different starting quarterback already in nine games this season. Garrett Gilbert, his first career start in the nearly engineers a win trying to knock off the unbeaten Pittsburgh Steelers, who are now eight and O for the first time in franchise history and the Steelers alone unbeaten team in the NFL for the second consecutive week on the road, rallying From a double digit deficit to get a win. They did it in Baltimore last week, and they did today in Dallas against the Cowboys. Once again, our final score the Steelers 24 the Cowboys 19. Or been hard sock. I'm Roxy Bernstein. Right here on your home for the football Sunday game of the week, ESPN radio. Let's go back to J in the studio. All right, Rocky. Thank you. Stealers have one as you heard their first eight games of a season for the first time in franchise history. You know, last week against the Ravens and the Steelers come out flat in Dallas, ESPN analyst Tim Hasselbeck says it could be that Zero in their team record. That's the trouble. I do think there comes a point where this undefeated situation becomes a weight that's not worth carrying. I just I think that can legitimately be a thing for a football team. When everybody's kind of looking for their best effort, each and every week out to stay perfect Look, The Chiefs aren't perfect, and they might be the best team in all the National Football League. And it's okay that they lost the game. You know, it's okay that they, you know, you know, I had a fight with the Carolina Panthers. And so I do think Part of what can happen is you have this perfect season and the expectations. It's just not worth caring when it's hard enough to win games each and every week in the NFL, Pittsburgh guys, the Bangles and Jaguars coming up that is the Ravens on Thanksgiving for Dallas. Despite the loss. First one against the spread this season. Cowboys did have a double digit lead first game this season. They've done that. Straight ahead 32 years later. He follows in his dad shoes. Roberts Burger just does get the play on throws short to the left. It's caught and hopping into the end zone. Over a tackler is Ebron touched out stealers. Third touchdown pass for Roethlisberger. Pittsburgh takes their first lead That was simple. Eric Ebron runs a quick out trout from the inside of that empty backfield set. Roethlisberger gets to write the numbers on the five yard line, and he jumps over the defender. Ricky Brown. I've been around him a couple times. He's a hoot to be around. Has a lot of fun and Joyce playing the game. Mike Tomlin's been a guy that's been a really positive influence on him. LeBron was struggling to stay focused, and Detroit goes to goes to the Indianapolis Colts and kind of resurrect his career. And it's really thriving under leadership. "Burger straight drop pros, right? Toward Iran and makes the catch shoved out of bounds. First down Xavier Woods, pushing the tight end Ebron out after a pickup of 11th out Steelers him in a 27 to go in the Dallas defense was smelling blood in the water, and they brought heavy pressure. Try to get into Roethlisberger's face while he's hobbled. It was a good route by Eric Ebron from his tight in position, just quick out route for big conversion to the Cowboys. 32 6 passes no runs on this march from the Steelers shotgun for Roethlisberger throwing left toward the sideline and quick hitter and it's caught lunching at a bounces play pool right near the marker. It should be enough to get 10 yards and a first down. Roethlisberger had some bodies around his feet there again, but it looked a little bit more comfortable in his drop from the shotgun position, took another two or three step drop before he fires that ball to Claypool on a 10 yard out. And another first down conversion. Rob Bliss, Berger, six for 7 53 Yards on the drive left hash at the Dallas 22 21 to go until halftime. Shotgun for Roethlisberger dumps it off to the right and it's Ebron catch inside the 20 and right sideline he shoved out of bounds by Anthony Brown after a gain of five A minute, 16 remaining in the first half Pittsburgh as the Dallas Cowboys on their heels right now, lots of crossing routes. "1 to four. CBS Taking your calls on Ben Rob Bliss, Berger. Okay. They take on the Ravens this Sunday. Steel is a six, you know? Got a light schedule the rest of the way. The Ravens five and one trying to cement and show that they're not just gonna beat up on all the bad scenes, but that they will beat the Steelers that eventually they will beat the Chiefs. Ben Roethlisberger has the experience. Does he have all the experience does he still have the ability to lead them to a Super Bowl? Man ain't going to be easy. Still got to get past the Ravens in the playoffs still have to get past the Titans still definitely have to outscore the Chiefs or at least try to slow him down. No one's saying it's going to be easy. But have been Roethlisberger ended up hoisting. The Lombardi Trophy at the end of the year. I'm not going to be shocked. I'm not going to be surprised. 855 to 12 for CBS. Get back to these phones. You can also tweet me at J. R Sport. Regis, call enough from Charlotte. Jay. What are your thoughts on big band? Can they go all the way? I think Big Ben and the Steelers could make a run because Mike Tomlin has shifted the attitude in that locker room and he's getting the best out of Ben. They're challenging team deep down the field, which I think they could do that. She secondary which isn't all that good. And I think they could do to Marcus Peters on Sunday. He got Thorne up by program couple weeks ago. I think they could do that the sea oxen to rule so I don't know that caller was talking about government got think Mike Thomas should be considered the coach of the year because The attitude in that locker room two years ago was completely different. From what it what it is now and you can see that he's getting the best out of all of his players. That wasn't the case a couple years ago, and they traded for making Fitzpatrick the defense got elite and now they're serious, and I do think they'll make a run. I think they'll challenge in the FT Championship. Okay? Yeah. I think I agree with you, J. J. Thank you for calling from Charlotte. And you want to talk about what's different in the locker room. I mean, you got you got you got a veteran quarterback. You have young talent That's looking a ball out. Whether it's a deante Johnson, You gotta rookie here and and chase Claypool. Even every now and then this guy gets AA Ron, You got juju Smith Schuster. You know, he's kind of thrilled that he doesn't have to catch the football from like, You know, the guy who worked at the grocery store and I'm not talking about Kurt Warner. Okay, so no, they they're in a solid position. Make it a run out with the best of him when you got young talent when you got guys who are actually going out there and are interested in playing football and not sharpen. Yeah, this could be extremely advanced age is And you see it. They are running and they are rolling. 855 to 1 to four. CBS. You can also tweet me at J. R Sport brief. We have a Cleveland fan and Pittsburgh, he says. I hate to say this, he says yes been robbed Bliss. Berger can lead them all the way. They have one of the easiest schedules in the NFL this year, the only thing that can stop them his injury. He says other than Bush. He says they've been good injury wise. Let's talk to Jeff. Jeff is on the phone here from Canada. Jeff you on CBS Sports Radio. What's on your mind about the Steelers? Hi, jer. But number one. Let's look at the reality here. Yeah, all your Steeler fans are calling in chime in and chirping about how great they are and everything right? But don't hang on to your cowboy hat here, okay? You barely got by the Giants in the Bronco. So quit chirping about how great yard and the NFL is about, like four chapters in the book, and there are only two chapters and a half in There's no way the Steelers are they might go to the playoffs. Okay, but let me ask you to Basic simple questions. The way I see things, everything goes through the U. S. And it's pretty straightforward and easy to understand. People have to get past Kansas City chiefs and right now I put Justin Herbert above. Ah Ben Rogers for any day, and he hasn't even finished his complete season. Look at that guy's Ah records of rookie quarterback. That guy's barely losing some some of these elite teams. Then we'll we'll we'll have we'll jump. How How can you have it? Both ways like like which way is and I think First of all, no, no, no. Let me let me ask you a question. Before you say Let me say Let me let you set a lot. Let me stop and ask you a question. You said that the Steelers you know that they're barely They barely beat some teams. And you said, Oh, that's a that's a negative for them. And on the other hand, you look at you honestly look at Justin Herbert, who just got his first W And you look at him and then you go. He's almost being seen. So what almost doesn't count like you did Or you didn't. You know, this is this is football. You know you're gonna win you gonna lose. You know you're going to have a close game. Sometimes you won't. So what's your point? My point. Is this, okay? You're right about me in the comparisons. I am not giving Ben enough credit and I'm giving just in a whole lot of credit. Okay, But the thing is, we're maybe shouldn't have been comparing the two and one sets because one has a body of work that's like what 14 years and counting or something like that, and one has 1004, not even a year. Yes, one of saying statistically, if people really paid close attention to what the Chargers have been doing, they've been fairly peeking out. And it means they have We They have a professional defense their way. No, Jeff. Yeah, but okay, well, what I'm saying is is eventually Ben Roethlisberger is going to get caught up by the Titans. He's going to get caught up by the well. They are employed the Titans, but they still have to get past the Ravens Bills. Yes. If we want to examine the fact that will they get through it and get to the chant, Not the championship, but well, most definitely, they probably will. But what difference does it make when they get into the playoffs, and they have to go up against other teams? Just same quality? They're not gonna not gonna buster it And I don't care about Claypool is great. It's great story. Okay, So what? It's just like less. Okay, Jeff. Okay, Jeff, let me ask you a question. Where in Canada are you from? I'm from Windsor. Okay up in Windsor you make in Canada. Sound bad, Jeff. Okay, I know you are. I appreciate you for calling up but you made Canada sound bad. Thank you, Jeff from Canada. Shout outs to everybody that calls up.

"Tell you what. He made some really solid 10 point passes today on you know what they're being smart with Rob Bliss, Berger he only practices basically on Thursday. Wednesdays off. Thursday. He practices full Friday. There is some work done. He does throw and he doesn't leave the offense, but it's not as intense today, so I think they're being smart with his arm and making sure that He doesn't overwork and he seems to be getting in a little bit of a groove. We saw a little bit of the film the game. I thought, even though he only threw for 162 yards, hey, didn't need to throw for anymore. I thought he was He was really started really solid after the first couple of Dr and you know what he's going to need to be. Tennessee involved more on the road to be a big test for the Steelers coming up in the next to without question, But right now they've answered every one of them and they are 50 on the season. Jeff Great job. Thanks for joining us. All right, Jeff Hathorn in Pittsburgh, where the Steelers improved the five and all with a big win. Aaron Rodgers takes it from a couple of yards out. They are reviewing it to see if his knee was down. He went headfirst into the end zone. And they have taken the knee before the gold before the ball across the plane of the goal line. In any event, he did take a shot from Antone Winfield upon landing in the end zone that drew a flag, So at the very least, it's no touchdown. It's going to be half the distance to the goal and we'll see what the call is. We come back, but the Packers already The three Nothing Lead.

"Wait. We actually got all the way through week number one. Pair of Monday night Football games and we are now through one week, and as much as I have been trying to temper my enthusiasm and stay somewhat Cautious in my exuberance. It's not so easy for me. I have a feeling that because of how well the NFL is handling its business. This is going to be like a typical season in that all of a sudden it's going to be one month down and then two months down and then boom, it's going faster and faster, like the rest of 2020. I know it felt like it times that The days were were crawling by March April, maybe even into May, depending on your business and what you were doing over the course of the spring. Oh, gosh, I still can't believe it's mid September. We've had two weeks to adjust to the fact that it's September and I'm still haven't been able to process it fully. And so the rest of this year has flown by as much as it feels like it's crawling at times. And having looked forward to football for weeks and weeks and weeks. I now kind of feel like it's going to really pick up steam. And so here we are completely through week number one. Yea Before we even talk about money, I football games. I have to tell you how much I appreciated all of your tweets and your Facebook posts over the last 24 hours. You all are really supportive. And I know you were excited about football returning like I was most of you. Many of you listen to the show, but a lot of you went out of your way to send me posts. To tell me how much you enjoyed our first Sunday night into Monday Football show, which honestly those air 16 hour work days, and so we put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it. A lot of heart a lot of effort and because of personnel changes and the fact there's just two of us on the show. Now it's a lot to navigate a lot to handle. And so the fact that you sent so many tweets and Facebook posts and really unsolicited Felt like I was asking you for them or expecting them. But many of you told us how much you enjoyed the show, whether you heard it live. Or whether you caught it on the podcast, and that makes me happy. But, yes, I am pretty jazzed up pretty giddy over the return of the NFL, and I'm pretty confident that that bleed through on the show. I try not to talk too fast. I tried to talk too loud, but there is no way that I can contain my excitement. Trying to contain my excitement is like trying to contain Christian McCaffrey. Okay, so deal with it is after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio. We're live from the rocket mortgage by Quicken Loan studios. Being one of the elder statesmen. It was really good to see Ben on the field again. And as much as there is a You know, a sense of teams trying to find consistency and certainly missed opportunities. I saw a lot of that in week Number one. It's not perfect. It wasn't a seamless performance for the offense the entire time. "Home Depot where doers get more done. I mentioned the number of players who went to Kentucky and I'm watching Devin Booker. Go off Jamal Murray Bam at a bio Eric Bledsoe, You start to run down Anthony Davis. And then you go Kentucky 11 title. With all of that talent that went through there. Like the Atlanta Braves. The Braves won one World Series title, and they want all of those visions. They like 14 playoff appearances, and they won one title and had one of the great rotations in the history of baseball. But you start to run down like I do you mentioned here in Fox. Shay Gil. Just Alexander. In his canter. Kevin knocks. Malik Monk, who else is on the kid? Nerlens Noel, Patrick Peterson, Julius Randle, Russian Rondo, Karl Anthony Towns. John Wall, PJ Washington. That's probably 25 players from Kentucky who were in the N B a right now. Man. Temple. And you know that John Calipari when he's recruiting, those kids puts that list front and center on the desk. Here's the what My guys have made. Here's what he always talks about it. His former players have made a million bucks. But you brag about it because I would then go How many championships did you win? I know you're only there one year and coach Cal is up front. He's transparent with that, but Like accidentally, you'd think you'd win another title with that group. And didn't they win a title and Anthony Davis in the title game? Did he not score in the title game? I think you'd like of couple foul shots or something he got on the board, but barely But man, that's a lot of talent going through there. It's kind of like when I watched an NFL game and I'll go Oh, that guy went, tell us you and that guy went L s you and that guy went l s u Like you just go there. Just some of these schools have so much talent. Yes, make love. But it's not as bad as like a North Carolina football that has a first round picks, and they're not good at all. Yes, there times when you go to North Carolina. Oh, he went to North. How is North Carolina? Not any good. L s u you expect them to be good coming up next. Our Philip Rivers will join us on the program. The Colts quarterback Would you rather have the career of Philip Rivers? Ben Roethlisberger. Eli Manning. I'll hang up and listen. Philip Rivers, no titles. Roethlisberger. Couple of titles, Eli a couple of times. I'm gonna go Roethlisberger because Rob Bliss Berger, I think has been great during the regular season, and he's also got a couple of Super Bowls. "Extinct there certainly becoming unappreciated. As I told you last week. I believe Matt Ryan is one of the most unappreciated quarterbacks in the league. But Ben Roethlisberger for someone who says I want to win multiple Lombardi trophies. You got to get out of your own division first. The NFC North is not going to be easy. We just heard from Lamar Jackson, who says I am tired of going to the playoffs and getting eliminated.
