If you don't mind checking back s O a bizarre question this morning. Was there. Really? A Christmas tree reported on the 1 34 this morning in Pasadena so weird that you're asking me that because I looked at the report and I went Wait a minute. It can't be a Christmas treat. You know, Maybe it's a pine tree of some kind or right, but I did. I saw it on the CHP log the nuts because I heard that what I thought I heard in the report, and I thought They say a Christmas tree and then boom. I hit the back up right at CNN. Rafael and I was like, Oh, well, And then, as we all started going, there was green stuff flying everywhere. But I couldn't tell if it was Christmas Tree ish, or, you know, maybe a tree trimmer had lost a tree or what? But I just thought, really a Christmas tree in June 30th Funny it was a tree. It was definitely a tree. And And what happens is that CH people put in, you know the dispatchers will put in what the person from the road that's calling. King is saying to them so he could be the wrong way on the freeway. It could be a little green men, and they'll put that in there. So this time it just happened to be a Christmas. "But I'm sure he's like kicking himself in. Why did I go to the bank? That had an accountant they they keep me because I knew how I walked. They recognize that and a guy was dressed head to toe dark clothing. Big Guy recognizes build in the way that he walked one little thing. So. That's real life, thus real life. And that leads to capture, and that's why crime doesn't pay. It does pay if you're in the movies. you know if you're the? If you're the good bad guy, you're going to get away with it. Somehow you know if you've got redemptive qualities, even though you're stealing something. Works out in the end. They're usually. But in real life, it doesn't so. From the bank robbery, another interesting thing I want to point out is that. Because of. This happened like in March. Okay, so we got us the coronavirus deal like mid March, and then going into where we are today, so we've been dealing with this for about two months. My question is how many more bank robberies are going to occur because of the. BS that we're having to deal with and all the stuff with. You know protecting herself from an invisible killer whether it's happening or not, it's hard to tell but people. Who are. Unemployed. People that maybe A. Twenty five percent unemployment now or something like that I don't know. But. How many more of these are going to happen because the current situation? How many more people are going to be going to banks because now they're walking around in mass. How scary is that? I had my bank the other day, and I had like a scarf and I had to pull it up and I'm like this just does not feel right. I'm withdrawing money. I'm carrying over my Carta withdraw money or deposit money. It's my. It's my Bank I. Feel like I'm like a dangerous individual sell. All this stuff's going on. People are wearing master dressed up like Bain. From Batman? It's just it just craziness. The banks are open. So how many more are we going to see? How many more episodes can I do? while. I don't necessarily. Like doing 'em interested in for my author, mind than the story perspective, but I certainly don't like to see him. But. I don't know. What do you think about that? And you know when it comes to your story. What do you think about your story? What's a compelling piece of your story that you can get into? When somebody wants to know about whether you're speaking in public to A. Lot of people are one on one rather than going out it. Chronologically. and. Born people with it 'cause Latinos. We we tune out. How can you get there and had be compelling? Well as I've talked about a lot of my up, says I. I M An author and I've invested in a lot of story with my novels and so forth. And I think the best way is to follow like the hero's journey. You, know La Times. These heroes are messed up people and there's redemptive qualities. There's a there's a transformation at the end so when you are getting into your story. If you've lived long enough, you definitely have a hero's journey to to tell. Don't tell chronologically Rickman. Go in there and I person talking about. The moment and talking about in first person as if it's happening right then and there as you're telling it, give it a flash like a preview. About your story and then time will stop. Time will stop in that moment, and that's the way to get into your heroes. Story. Whether something usually here's during something bad happened. Something bad happened. There was a mistake. There's a pit to fall into crawl out of it. There's a mentor there. You always think that you gotta figure out. And then there's transformation way way way down the end. But when you're telling, go into that first person. First person and bring the listener there and I hope that you can give that out of my podcast to you because when I am talking about these stories these. This is why we see them on movies. We see a lot of bank robbery. Who is one of my? Favorite ones recently and Iraq. Messina's the old man, the gun, old man and the gun. With Robert Redford. Man Robert Redford. Charles Robert Redford by the way. And Love that maybe, and and as as much as he tried to ruin the movie. Casey Affleck could not do it. He could not win that movie. He tried so hard. Just my opinion. But it makes for great storytelling sell. Good bad guy, such a good bad guy that maybe. So whether you're stores, good or whether it's bad. There's there's probably a little bit of both. And in that moment that pivotal moment! Where you WanNa, talk about that that. The door slamming because you're a behind bars for some unknown reason or somebody left you or Somebody died or something like that. That pit moment. Go there in the first person if you can. Keep a flash give a trailer of IT and the people listening to trust me time. We'll stop a great way to get into it whether you're speaking in public or one on one. Don't tell Qarah logically try not to curate your highlights. people tune out, and they do it more and more and more so I hope that helps you. "Hey. What's going on the ship Honi host of your story or Your Life? podcast I, WanNa thank you for joining me and if you've heard me and other episodes, you've probably heard the story relief podcast, no worries I've just rebranded a little bit to be more in line with some of the topics I cover from true crime and compelling persons of interest, and you know that's a great lead into why one you to come back because I will have interviews I will have better stories for you so I really appreciate. You subbed me on Youtube. Coming back for mercy, those videos right away and then also maybe follow foamy on spotify or the other channels insuring me if you think I've got enough content for your friends and so forth. That's a big compliment to me I. AM listener supported and is by listeners like you, so shout out to you guys I appreciate it fist-bump. Let's get into it. Today's episode you know lately I've had a thing about bank robberies, and maybe it's because of my author mining storytelling perspective that I really enjoy newbies with the highest enjoy heat from the mid nineties with De, Niro and Pacino. It's one of my favorite movies. Lately I've come to like the town. A little bit better worn more. I keep rewatching it because it just gets better I think. Love Jeremy Renner in that by the way is awesome. But you know what? The movie version bank robbery versus a real life version. They just don't mash now. There's no deniro getaway with ten MIL. said on Apollo cash an island somewhere. There's no Ben Affleck moving to Florida. Wayne for his his love to find him just doesn't work like that. Real life is much different. Real life has video everywhere. There's a video recorder everywhere. You pull into. Any kind of parking lot. You're on video your HD. HDTV And so. There's facebook. There's all sorts of things to. Really kind of ruin your day. If you're into doing this sort of thing, so in today's episode, I kind of fascinated by stories I I've. Read and I am citing heavy dot, com and links because this is of pending investigation. The person has been accused of it. The person's been arrested. There's an FBI investigation and it's. For Bank, robbery of two small banks and Smaller, towns of Tulsa Oklahoma. Interestingly Enough There is a fire captain who is accused of these two robberies. I didn't say firemen. I said fire captain, so this guy's like the CEO of the Fire Department. It's a pretty big deal. You know seventeen years and service trusted. Individual yet. Another person in uniform. WHO's been. Accused of something. Seen that before? and. You know one of the things I want to talk about here is. A little bit about the crime itself and tied into something else to not learn how to big robbery better, but you know how how these things unwind themselves. So Stick with me and You know if you've got any points on this you can certainly leave me a message. I'll give me a comment something.

Kingpins Daily: Willie Sutton

"Today's quotes is from bank robber. Willie Sutton known for his gentlemanly manner and for Escaping Jail Multiple Times. His crimes eventually earned him spot on the FBI's most wanted list according to the FBI. When asked why he robbed banks he replied. That's where the money is first off. We have to burst our bubble a little according to Sutton. He never actually said this. It was invented by a reporter looking to capitalize on his fame in nineteen fifty two but the quote fit his spirit so well that he later embraced it. Writing a memoir called where the money was in nineteen seventy six sutton very literally learned. That's where the money is early in his life. When he walked to the bank at the age of fifteen he sold the drudgery of the working people coming in early to take out nickels and dimes while the bank owner pulled up in his private car. Eleven Sutton's father. Older brothers were working. Men Struggling in mechanic factory jobs and growing up in Brooklyn he was also surrounded by Irish. Italian mobsters the haves and have nots. Where apparent on top of all this. He had an aunt Alice who was from a wealthy family. She would dress him in suits and take him to fancy restaurants giving him a taste of what things were like on the other side of the divide. If the problem was how do I get around? The dreary lifestyle of a lower class worker than the simple answer was just not live that life. He spent the rest of his teens. Committing acts of theft. Eventually he would take his chances at the big leagues in Nineteen thirty. He robbed his first bank. This first part of his crime spree didn't last long. He was caught and sent to prison less than a year later but he escaped the year after that once again. He had encountered a circumstance. He didn't care for and chose the simplest way out of it. He used a makeshift ladder to climb over the prison wall. Once he was back on the streets sutton came to be admired as he lived a life. Free of restriction. In a way that many Americans wished they could he was known for being a snappy dresser and a snappy talker which is why he got the nickname slick willy. He was the last person you'd expect to rob you. In fact in where the money was he says the Willie Sutton trademark has always been to get inside the bank by wearing the kind of uniform that would lead the gone to open the door for me without question. He also says that he preferred rubbing crowded banks as it made it less likely that anyone besides the person he was rubbing would pay attention to him again. This speaks to his. Keep it simple mentality rather than trying to finagle. A specific complicated scheme. He chose the more direct path walking through the front door. And clearly stating what he wanted as if it were no different than making withdrawal but of course eventually the consequences of his actions did catch up with him. He was called again in one thousand nine hundred eighty four and sent to the eastern state penitentiary in Philadelphia. This time getting out wouldn't be as easy as leaning ladder up against the wall. In fact it would be eleven years before he successfully escaped and even then he was recaptured on the very same day. But he simply kept trying. He escaped again in February.
