"Train he expanded his repertoire of tricks and soon became a popular pre game attraction with the fans. Besides the usual dog tricks, grainy would make a hoop with his arms and Larry would leap through the hoop. Very impressive. But the big crowd pleaser was when the players would line up, bend over and Larry would jump up and leap from the back of one player to another. And I will link to this because there's a great picture where he is playing leap dog and the whole team is bent over. And he is like on one of their backs poised to jump to the next player. Now, even more impressive were the things that Larry learned on his own. When the Cleveland players barked protests to an umpire, not sure if that pun is intended or not. Over a questionable call, Larry learned to add his own bark. Okay, I guess it was intended. On June 20th, 1913, Cleveland's manager Joe Birmingham was coaching third base a common practice for managers in that era and was thrown out of the game for two heatedly arguing a call, Larry Lee realized that no one was in the coaching box to encourage the runners along, so he bounded out of the dugout to take up position as the new third base coach. He did not understand why everyone found this so funny, or why the umpire ordered him back to the dugout. Larry's intelligence was just as impressive off the field. At the road hotels, granny would introduce Larry to the elevator operator and the doorman. When Larry needed to go out, granny just opened the door from their room and Larry would go to the elevator on his own and bark to call the elevator operator. Larry would ride down the doorman would let him out to do his business and Larry would reverse the routine when he was done. Quite clever. Jack and Larry made the trip between Cleveland and his parents home in Saint Thomas Ontario several times. When Larry needed a vacation in the middle of the season, Jack would just take him down to the ferry and drop him off. Larry would ride across Lake Erie, usually in the Wheelhouse with the captain and arriving in port Stanley where most folks knew him, he would be allowed on the interurban streetcar going to Saint Thomas and then get off at the right stop and trot up to the grainy home. So he's commuting basically. He is a very independent dog seemingly. And back to back days in June of 1913, Larry had his proudest and most shameful days as a member of the Cleveland baseball team on June 18th he became the first dog to visit The White House to be formally introduced to the president of the United States. President Woodrow Wilson had been unable to go to the ballpark and see Larry's tricks, but told granny my daughters tell me he is a very smart dog. I am sorry I could not have been there yesterday to see him perform. But the next day, something upset Larry, just after the conclusion of the ball game, and he bit a young man. And tore his clothes. No. Yeah. Seems very out of character for Larry, but he made one mistake here and Washington's manager Clark Griffith ordered Larry band from future games at Griffith stadium. Fortunately, there were no more such incidents in Larry's career, and he was welcome in the other major league parks for the rest of his days. So this is a one time incident. I'm going to blame the victim here, but Larry doesn't sound like the sort of dog who would bite for no reason. So I don't know, just saying, maybe he was not entirely in the wrong. Unfortunately, about three years later, he took ill with distemper and passed away on July 25th, 1917, there has never been another, like Larry, the greatest animal mascot in the history of professional baseball. So maybe Larry should be honored in the mascot Hall of Fame. Maybe he has been for all I know. Yeah, he may well have been. But at the time, he was a very famous figure in sports. So if you've forgotten about Larry, get to know Larry and also Craig notes that you had to be careful with straw hats around Larry. At some point the players taught him as a gag to snatch straw hats and tear them apart. And so a part of Larry's pregame show in Cleveland one season was to have someone hired by the team run across the field holding a straw hat and Larry would appear to chase him before grabbing the hat and destroying it. And I hate to bring down the happy go lucky Larry segment mood, but Craig continues reflecting the racial views of the era. It was thought that it added to the humor to hire a black man to be the one chased by Larry kind of connects back to our bud Fowler discussion, but I don't think we have to cancel Larry as Craig notes. It is interesting to contemplate that the one sentient being in the ballpark who did not attach meaning to that element was Larry, and really if you're going to teach him to chase after people, not surprised he bit someone, Craig writes that during his brief, big league career, Larry may have been the most photographed dog in America. In researching the story I came across dozens of pictures and drawings of Larry. There are more surviving images of Larry's baseball career than there are of many of his human teammates. Oh my gosh. Yeah, so Larry was really famous. He had an obituary in the Cleveland press, which called him the most famous animal mascot in the world..

"And welcome into the kilcoyne conversation. This particular visit is with bob costas. We always joke somebody who needs no introduction and then we read their whole resume and where they've worked and what awards they've won i think with bob. We just leave it at that. He needs no introduction but the focus here and this is not to get bob on his take on the blues. Power play or the cardinals cleanup hitter. It's real specific in something that you sort of been on my brain about good interviews. You see people walking around with their headphones in their listening to podcasts or downloading long-form interviews and even though the world's changing and media's changing it's still about conversation and it's still about great interviews great subjects and i thought bob was the perfect person to talk about that. His friendship with larry king used to challenge each other in terms of their interview skills. even david letterman a non traditional interviewer but his particular style. Getting bob's take on that. And some fun anecdotes. About how he. I on the late show with letterman trying to get jack. Nicholson to do a halftime interview on the nba during the nba finals and all of us in tv or radio. You feel like you've been asked to do a tough assignment like oh i don't really wanna do it but the bosses are big on this. How about bob's nbc. Bosses saying go. Ask jack nicolson sitting courtside. There had to be a bulls blazers. Nba finals in chicago. How about being asked to go as jack nicholson to come on the set at halftime to yuck it up. Jack nicholson doesn't do tv interviews. Think about that. Never and bob was set. It's a very funny story He was sent on that assignment also his worst interview that he can recall from his time at later. How it was tremendously painful yet. Joe torry called him from the road hotel room with the cardinals to say he thought it was hilarious. So some great anecdotes with bob and the whole story backdrop to this interview is about people conducting great interviews in fact after it was over. Probably my fault for not drawing this out but after we were done recording the interview bob shared a story about david letterman. Being a fan of bob's radio show kost coast to coast which for decades was on sunday nights. You'd hear it on cam. Lex in saint louis but long form the mickey mantles of the world. And you'd spend an hour with these guests. But apparently letterman had been a fan of that listening to it and mentioned his nbc bosses. Hey you know kostas. Does these long-form interviews a sports guy. But i bet he can interview anybody. And bob thinks and believes that that was the genesis of him getting asked to do the tv show later. Which has he points out still lives on youtube. You can find some great interviews. I need to in fact. I didn't do this yet. Bob said there's a youtube video. When letterman was the guest on later but nonetheless it's all about interview style whether you're mike. Wallace larry. king or oprah winfrey. It's very different but the conversation today as it as it turns out is about conversation as strange as.

Join me in the jungle weekdays, noon to three Eastern 90 Noon Pacific. I will see you then. You are Welcome back into the show under writer program is writer than you this weekend. The NFL playoffs continue on CBS and the AMC is down to four teams remaining with the defending champion chief. Still the team to beat who takes the next step on the road to Super 55 find out this weekend. In the A F. C divisional round plays out on CBS, by the way, a little breaking news. The head of the Breaking News just got a note from the MBA. Atlanta at Phoenix. Also now suspended. Because of contact tracing the Hawks do not have enough. Players. The eight players required. To proceed with the game. I talked about this on CBS Sports HQ the last few days. I'll be on there today at Three o'clock eastern and around midnight or 1, A.m. Eastern. So, so late late this evening, talking some hoops. But the idea that the MBA is going to go in a bubble is basically farcical. It would require the buying of the players and the notion of requiring guys to go away from their families for Months and months and months is just not realistic, and this was And I Talk to you on the show called several G. M's executives sources at the start of the season and wrote at CBS sports dot com and said here on the radio that a bunch of folks who are in positions of power in the NBA thought it was not gonna work. That it was likely the season would come crashing to a halt or have major problems. And this is just the beginning of this affect my wife, Laurie. Just sent me a note. A local news story. There's about About three grocery stores. We go to And there's one of those three that I've been in three times last week that had 25 positive Cove in 19 tests this week. 25 employees at the grocery store Which is to say there's a lot of people with Govind. There's a lot of transmission going on, Um I know that six or seven months ago. Lot of folks I know socially had known anyone who died a covert 19 I had and so that they didn't believe me, but it was just like you're kind of the exception that's gone. Friend of ours just lost. Her mother to cover 19 a couple days ago. And she has family members who are still so the point is as a relation sports that this is the beginning of this, we're going to be in a time of transmission. And whatever you think about Cove in 19. Hopefully you think it's an actual disease that kills people. You wear a mask, but not everybody does, which is its whole whole other thing. If there's a positive test, it's going to halt an NBA player from playing. If that MBA player has been around other players, contact tracing is gonna hold them from playing. And so I think the MBA does not want to help the season, but the reason they started on Christmas and not now is they knew this could happen and they want to do this many games and is possible. Two week pause. A three week we pause would not would not shock me alright with without further ado, let's do by yourself. What side will build take on the biggest issues in the world of sports? It's time for today's edition of Buy or Sell on writer than you. So sticking on that topic of MBA fighting these covert issues. Yesterday, ESPN reported a major change sweeping changes really in the covert protocols around the league, the biggest of which being closing off of rooms to non team guests and road hotels. The league has already postponed. I believe six. Maybe we may even be up to seven. I can't even keep count. How many games this week s O. "Thanks for having the game play here. You bet. So this is normally a busy tourist season in Santa Fe, with many visitors staying in vacation rentals or short term rentals and residential communities throughout Santa Fe. The same face. City Council recently made some changes to the ordinance. So tell us what the rules were before the change and what they are now, Dave. In other words, one of the key takeaways what changes were made to take effect on January 1st. Thanks, Tom. Great question. Um, you know, you know what? I just for everybody's information. Just give it a real brief history. Um, where this came from, and why The changes are being made now specifically. Okay, so okay. As far back as 2000 and nine there was a rudimentary ordinance controlling short term Reynolds. It really was. It was a mom and pop, um, sort of a side gig thing, not much need for oversight. Then about 2014 business really started to increase. On Do they really decided to start to take a look at some things from a distant additional rules were put in place, but then It really around you from 2014 until 2019 really exploded. Short term. Reynolds really clocked traction with the advent of V R B O and Airbnb and other O t A s okay and okay for the rest of this talk time will be online Travel agency. There's kayak hotels in a comic speedy verb. Oh, Airbnb! Right? Okay, well as these things started to grow, what it did is a game, um families and larger groups, the ability to travel with less restrictions that you might find in a hotel and just sort of a different experience altogether. Santa Fe has always been made up the majority of the tourists. I mean, could you mom has been has been hotels. Small hotels to Rio's road hotels. And then the downtown, larger hotels, Luxury and mid range s O as is, you know, the real estate market started to grow. What we started to see is the short term rentals grow, and then that brought in speculators. On anybody in the real estate market, You know, you know that Santa Fe has always been a great place for people to come in by a second home, um, not really much in the way of paying for mortgages. Other than some some long term rentals, Perhaps But as I said between 14 4019, it really went from a small mom and pop. Side hustles idea, sort of a thing to a real booming multi multi billion dollar business in this in this country. Right? The net effect of that is In the residential areas. We're talking about two things. The BCD, the business commercial district in downtown Santa Fe. And the outline residential areas anything non business. What is what is begun to happen shortly over time is the Long term rental. Who of available properties has been has been removed from the inventory, so it's become very hard and ostensibly very expensive. For anybody to find a place to live Long term in the city of Santa Fe and even out into the county. Okay, so so that's really the purpose for this and and it really time it stemmed. I'm a study. Which was funded by the Thornburg Foundation and was conducted by home wise. Home lives here in the city, and it was. It was an extensive Study on the impact of short term rentals here in Santa Fe, N. And it was finalized and issued June of 2019 so very recently. And basically what the status is that the numbers were staggering from the hundreds of thousands of dollars upwards into the into the mid million's close close close to the hundreds of millions of dollars. And just in Santa Fe of short term rental money that was flowing in and out. Downside because of the lack of compliance from the beginning is that there has never been in a semblance of Compliance. There's never been enforcement. And if you ask anybody in the city of Santa Fe In City Council in City Hall. How many tickets were issued? How many's find somebody? Penalties were issued from 2009. Until this very day, the answer would be Hero. Lorelei. The books. Yes, absolutely. Zero. Not for lack of trying. They just you know, because of the O T. A is in the way the O T A's are structured. It's very, very difficult to find out exactly the address exactly the person exactly the renter exactly when they're coming in, and when they're leaving. So again, the net result if became renters that said, approximately of the 1450 Um Actual short term rentals in the city of Santa Fe about 60% of them are registered, so that means 40% have been operating illegally. So that means no lodgers taxes 7%. No gross receipts tax for the state of New Mexico. Ford for over 7%. So essentially, um, you know, the the effect is has been over at the time of June 19. You're looking at about 4 $45 million of net revenue to the city of Santa Fe alone. So that that's really that that was really become the purpose of some of this basically. I, uh the grant. The grand overall look by the City Council has been to address some questions in terms of How often the unit can be rented how many guests can occupy the unit? You were do not have to provide off street parking spaces. Notification of neighbors in residential areas. When a permit is approved. 24 hour phone numbers for neighbors given to neighbors to reach the owner or the manager, and we'll talk. About the difference between an owner and a manager later. Um, but basically the number going to be able to want you. Yeah, to reach their neighbors with complaints parties loud noises. Parking issues. We'll talk about what that means. Later payment of applicable taxes, including city and lodgers. Any permit numbers now must be on all advertising and how we're going to enforce that address that and basically what we're here to talk about. Also is the compliance with covenant. Evidence of age aways and condominium associations and basic neighborhoods in residential areas for short term rentals. That they lack. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for setting it up for us. It's wonderful team. We're gonna take a short break. Uh, Olympia will take us out. And then when we come back, we're gonna have done Walcott to join us done. Walcott is an attorney in Santa Fe. "Okay. Busa baggy hanging out with you 877337 66 66 off. So Jeff Pass it Does a fantastic job is really funny Writer baseball writer like he's obviously very informed, but he's he's funny man. He really has a good sense of humor. So he put out a column on ESPN today and one of the headings like 20 questions before the season or something. The glass is one of the players. Biggest concerns. Is they start traveling right? That's the question one of the players. Biggest concerns is they start travelling. Here's the answer, he wrote. While they're the plane rides, the hotel stays the bus trips. All the extra points of contact. The traveling entails. They're also trips in the cities where the corona virus is far more present. Those are the macro issues. Players tend to believe the micro is a far trickier impediment, with one saying. Quote. I honestly think horny dudes on the road are what's going to bring this down Most. Your response fair. I mean, I think that's what we're all thinking it. We're all faking it. I think that is, I think that is very, very fair. And if I were a player This is not the year right to the ballpark to the hotel. You know, find and this is not the year. This is really understand. Listen, I understand. Listen, athletes if you're single, whatever it might be And you're on the road. I understand it. You're hanging out that this is not the time there's not gonna be any hang out areas Where you going? There's no Barto hangout in in the foreseeable future, right? Where you exactly you are. You're so 1994. Have you heard of thes dating APS? A girl waiting in the room before we even get to the cities. They already boys who know you know people do go to the bar number one that far, but I mean, the point being is Yeah. I understand Modern technology. I understand Tender and all that stuff. Yes, I get it. If you want some action, you can go online and you could find yourself some action. I get it. This is not this is not the year. This is not the year my message would do would be keep it in the pants. This is not the year Do not go on the road. Do not go on the road and risk. Listen, I don't wanna There's no excuse There is no excuse this year and yes, if I were another player out there, I would be fearful. We all know the guys out there that you know that there are horny on the day in day out basis. I get it. I understand it, but still this is not the year understand what we're going through. And that would be a fear if I were another player as well. I agree that this is not the year. Question for the Toronto Bluejays. For crying out loud. We're trying to find a place to play baseball. Question from an outsider. Can y'all help it like that? I told sometimes I wonder what made graphic Maggie there ways to help. I don't I don't Like I can put that technology you're talking about. Yes, I'm familiar. What? What you could have on your phone. It's always fun. When you're writing the New York City subway. Is someone sitting next to on the subway decides to look at porn. It's a really amazing guys that happened. Oh, speaking once, just on a side note. I was at a stop light the other day going to CVS. I look over to my left and somebody sit in the passenger seat. Was viewing pornography. I'm like, what are we doing at three o'clock in the afternoon? And this is why I ask Can you help it? Because sometimes I think it takes over your brains And like the decision making gets all scrambled, sometimes with with guys and listen, maybe women to I'm not going to discount you know that the women have these feelings also, But with guys I think sometimes like your sheer wiring gets messed up, and it gets just you're so singularly focused. And I think some guys could say Well, I'll think about baseball, but baseball players probably don't want to think about baseball. You don'thave saying, Like, you know, Get away your brain to rest, you know? So I Here's okay. I'm going, Tio. It's true. What you're speaking to is true. There is a consistent drumbeat to that thought process. That is true Stick. Cods was on the brain all the time. Okay. You think about right now? Of course. Here's what I'm gonna suggest something. Sprawling out going to be popular, but it could work. The EPA is doing it. A snitch line. It's anonymous. If you see players who can't help themselves or who are putting the season in jeopardy because they can't like control it and they just can't They their singularly focused kid. Can baseball have the snitch lied? And teammates can call each other out for their behavior on the road most it might be the only way to save the season. It might be inactive Snitch line down. Do I think, guys, we're going to be doing that on the road, Maggie. I mean, I don't know if you're right. I mean, they're They're scenarios here on social media, where you could set it up to where nobody knows where somebody might be. You know you both parties are obviously Into it, And they might not. You might not run into another player in order snitched you out, So there is that possibility as well. I'm not speaking from experience. I'm just speaking about the fact of I've heard those stories and read those stories online. But thing is, is that both parties like to brag, But this is not a man or woman thing. You gotta always you know women talk men talk. It's hard to keep a secret when it comes to that stuff. My message is not this is not the year You got a point there? Hopefully we have a vaccine in early January. Hopefully, we're able to get through this pandemic Over the course of the next 56 months, we socially distance. You wear a mask. Do all these things. This is not the year If you're a baseball player, have you seen young people out there? They're I understand. They don't care. I'm telling you to care for your God. My God, I did baseball. I need baseball. I do not need horny baseball players. Bringing down the year. I need Major league baseball. I want to see the Yankees win. I'm looking forward to watching Alonso hit a home run, even though it's not gonna be anybody in attendance. You know what? That for me for Mark loses on wfmt a little God. Please reassess yourself. If you can't control yourself find a way to control yourself this year. You know what I could imagine. It's like in a TV show or a movie when they have like the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other shoulder, Yet it's both boosts. And so young say, like 21 year old baseball player walks into the road hotel Looking at the EP, you know, sees all these women who are like ready, willing and able, Whatever consenting adults, all that stuff And you have, like the angel mousse. You know, it's just like, don't do it. What do you doing Defensive and then the devil Most is on the other show. It's like that you only live once, like one of the odds, right, YOLO. Wait, that we've got to get ISO in our digital team of that. We've got to create that. That's got to be something that the angel of the ghost devil lose them. You're not allergic to fun. I mean, you you as a young man, Think about it. We go back and think about 21 year old moose. I'm telling you. Hey, man, do it for the greater good would be like what 12. Maybe you'd consider it. I don't know. That is way. Didn't know we could other that I've just guessing No, I You're You're right. You do only live once. And I am speaking Now, as you know, a happily married man and a father of three. So I'm coming from a different perspective than when I was 2021 22 years of age. And I get if I'm a single baseball player, and the world is my oyster. I understand that there are opportunities and there might be opportunities that it might be next to impossible to turn down. I'm just pleading with you. You should show us Bauji. I mean, please said it was okay. If you're gonna do it. You wear a mask, please. Okay and something else. Nothing else. Nothing but the mask. That was one of that lot somewhere where he Here's the thing, though Well without, she said he wasn't talking about where those guys who arch Traveling all over the East coast. When you're talking about whether or not you could hook up with somebody and it may or may not be safe, you know, during the person who's from every night Yeah..

"Yeah, Yes, light dried this the beginning of the end, but actually neither that we all a consumers and are just on the industry. Understand more, AB- ice, the limitations of the of the technology, the capabilities of the technology. What's really lovely to see is that. I am composition is night very much seen as almost a human at accelerator of human creativity to give you. An example is kind of more specifics. We have worked with a business school vocal which I'm. Trying to it uses your voices and instruments, so if you make a trumpet signs into this microphone, it will put a trumpet mid-east Signal Signs in theory you. Can you know build your whole song by just going Dong Dong Dong because that's the guitar noise on it. Rates the guitar of the very good making guitar noises. Was Eric Clapton. Well See. Waking in his boots. But you know it, can it can I put a host? That's kind of. That's a real example of just a practical in-studio crisis accelerator. We also worked with a business cold top, which was going for the more fun game, if occasion ends of music generation where you literally. Download the APP and you common tap into it on. You can create your own song, so it kind of takes away that requirement. Ab Music trained or to be able to play instruments openly. Kind of everyone can produce uncreative on its signs. It's really professional. Let's let's not you know a race to the Boston per se. And then right the way through to the latest business are they graduated quite recently for monitoring business, cold live score, the finders, actually composer this lovely blend of human composition that the. Than, almost put into Lego blocks so that the system can create generous. So you can put any kind of Q. on top of it like think of your electric cars, an example like you're. If you're going really fast, the music can go faster. If you turn a coroner, the music can turn with. You can put any kind of pivot on the music, but it just generates itself, and that's just you know just really interesting on brands or quite excited about what that could do for them, you know. Will we listen to it? Instead of the topics on spotify I don't know, but you know it's is a time and a place for that type of music as well definitely. Yeah, they're interesting businesses. To your point. You're not just thinking next five years next ten years like so many companies are thinking of when you first started talking about the image and reputation of the brand. You said well. What's the next ninety years going to look like? So who knows what kind of technology is going to be involved by then I'd love to be a fly on the wall in year, brainstorming or creative space wherever you guys think of these ideas, and what companies to embrace in support I'm sure it's just mind blowing. What comes out of there and so you do so many different things and you had such a giant and really inspiring effort to modernize Abbey. Road Wall so celebrating the history. What is the biggest challenge that you've come across in your role as MD there? I think that the biggest challenge initially was you know I. This is possibly to honest, but I arrived with out of ideas. You know in my felder. We've more or less executed. Most of the context, the expansion strategy and the kind of the repositioning piece and I think in the first year. That was my hardest year because this is a business that hadn't changed in AC six years. Old It was when I arrived. So you know here's this crazy. Irish growl arriving with the powerpoint under arm with all these grand plans. What the Hell is she up to so I think it took me? The biggest challenge was gaining people's trust that this was all a advice expanding and showcasing the brand as authentically as possible. This wasn't. By just. Building an Abbey Road Hotel in Las Vegas. Wasn't that kind of fun. It was actually high, do we? Really credible authentic passionate. Craig's of way do something interesting with this bronze. That took me a long time to get people to what to trust me unto buy into where we were going. Actually you know as I'm sure a lot of people you've had on your podcast of said seeing is believing so the first couple of. Steps like even the retail store that we got going on and show that the product in there was you know beautifully associated with the bronze, and not just a taxi souvenir store young. People people kind of. Realize actually. This is going to be done in a really really tasteful way. That is celebrating the browns. So anyway. I think probably, too, but it was it was. That was a tough first. You're trying to get people to buy into the vision, but then they have all come on the journey was we have absolute key amazing, so we've. We've come good at the at the size. there's no such thing as too honest and think about I mean it. Doesn't that just gives you chills when you think about what you're experiencing that first year? Or early days there and then to to turn around and see already in. A matter of years what you and the team have accomplished A. it's really it's. It's amazing what you've done I'm I'm so proud of the team I mean it is. It like I. Say brand that hasn't changed have implemented that much change on so well. Executions in such a short space of time I think we can all be immensely ride. Hey Max here. Another thing that you may be mentally proud about is your podcast and you might have a podcast. You might have one fear brand, or you might not have one yet, but you might be thinking about having one in the future, and there's so many positives about having a podcast. It opened so many doors, but the flip side of it is, it takes hours and hours and hours and hours today say hours hours to put together every single day every single week, so there's so much. Much work that needs to go on behind the scenes, an order for you to have a successful podcast. If you would like some help with that I, am here for you. Email me at Max. P. two promotions runs their print shop I had a conversation with Paul we're friends and you were telling me Paul that this is started acting your business now that there's a lot of events that are putting their orders on hold for promotional items your character that is exactly what happened so how many people are in your shop specifically all right our shop we have six employed six employees but overall the company was dead overall twenty eight employees and and all with our corporation so your company small business here you got about just under thirty employees and right now people are wondering because you had a number of those orders T. shirts promotional items were either they're canceling orders are telling you hang on we're not sure if our events even gonna happen yes that is correct we are haven't been orders that what can actually happen our production schedule is on hold at the time this is where I'm sure if the events are going to happen what does this do there's got to be some employees are nervous about layoffs or work stoppages that already a concern for you guys I haven't gotten that far down the line yet but we are definitely looking at that the options got to be prepared for what what is to come when you are having conversations with the with the your employees but also with your bosses do they have a plan in place yet what are they going to do moving forward there's a lot of things you're doing and we know that there's a lot that happens with these corporations how do you handle if there's a bigger slowdown slow down right now it's just kind of taking it day by day really the next twenty four to forty eight hours for us to see what goes on and one of the build up your early in the game one of the things we solid construction slowdown and await no nine is it seems like all of a sudden somebody pushed a button and things kind of stopped is that what's happening in your industry was going gang busters then all of a sudden just kind of came to a screeching halt yeah we did give up quite a bit of a stop yesterday with all these events are and we have to start to be canceled and copulation I now but we definitely can see that you know continuing and these this business that you're working for you guys been around for quite a while it's not like you're just a start up you've been around so you've this company really is got a good foothold but every no one is immune from this right yes Sir that's correct we we've been in business for fifteen years here in the valley and that we do have in my foot down but definitely wearables are taking precautions and got to be ready for well I appreciate you coming on this morning kind of sharing a little bit your story when we were talking about this I had even considered your industry but I I how hard it's been hit up hope that things get better for you pretty quick yes seventy two Mackey said all right thanks Paul and that's Paul Trask is name the companies called H. P. two promotions that make promotional items he runs the print shop T. shirts things of that nature the conversation we had started with him saying we've got orders have been cancelled got orders that are put on hold because there were events that happen every single year they've got a good clientele in a great reputation and in the industry so they have a great client base but when clients aren't sure their events are going to happen you're not going to print those promotional items it's just another example of what we're seeing and look at the list of companies or or industries right now that are affected by this with all the major sports leagues are saying they're on hold right now Major League Baseball is it waiting at least two weeks to start their season we see first hand what what that does your what spring training NBA Phoenix Suns how many games what's this going to cost if you look at cityscape and that that entertainment district right around where the Phoenix Suns play out at Westgate the games of the coyotes play is the lifeblood for those restaurants roll up for a lot of that time they do other events throughout the week but you're talking you know thousands of people a couple of times a week at those arenas and so there are a lot of other businesses that are dependent on these things happening so when you talk about closures there are you know a lot of people no fault of our own and this is the kind of thing that people talk about it being prepared is what is it that you know eat impacts you we're gonna talk a little bit later on about that is the impact of you didn't do anything wrong you're running a business in this case you have a print shop to does promotional items T. shirts for advance you know will partners with the old kai OTC whatever and now all of a sudden all of that's on hold and is this going to change the way people do business long term and that's something we're gonna talk about later on because are we watching the generation of people to kind of live life like it's going to last forever does this change people's mindset but when you look at a business like this end and when the construction business the silver lining of the construction crash that happened await no nine was it weeded out the weaker businesses it was the more solid businesses with the better business plan not just quality of work but quality of the business that survived it weeded out a lot of the other bad I'll be very honest I lost my business and all of that I was relatively new I looked back at the mistakes I made and I learned a very expensive and valuable lesson what not being prepared about growing too fast about growing the wrong way if I were to start a business again I would do things dramatically different but for the business is now that have been doing the right thing no fault of their own and now all of a sudden they're watching stuff around them freeze and wondering what they're going to do next and again this case you heard the concern about we're not sure what's going to happen yet we have not come to the point of lay offs twenty eight employees overall six employees in this print shop and I guarantee you the boss of that company will hang on to employees for absolutely as long as they can because they treat their employees like family members this is a small family these been loyal people that when things are very busy they have people every pitch is everybody pitches in and gets the work done so it's it's these are tough decisions for people to make down the road and hopefully it's never going to get to that point but I just wanted you to hear from a business owner what their perspective is if people don't go out to eat can't go to sports games and aren't traveling businesses are gonna need to make some tough decisions in the future president trump declared a national emergency earlier today you're gonna hear Jim Sharpe's reaction to his address next all right it's Jamie progresses employee of the month to month in a row leave a message at the hi Jamie hit me Jamie I just had a new idea for our song what the name your price tool so when it's like tell us what you want to pay Hey hearing from bone was what wine you say well be fine coverage options to fit your budget then we just all the fingers now small choir goes even coming after they've come at jet yes no maybe anyway so your practice tonight I got a new lyrics of the rhetoric progressive casualty insurance company affiliates pricing coverage much limited by state law is one day sale with deals of the day price so low you don't need a coupon like sixty to seventy percent off tailored suits and sport coats from Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein buy one pair of shoes.

"Hey I had a email course finally this weekend but I don't want to break my character my identity I just want to say a few words about Bruce Springsteen I could please. I'm I'm very guilty of on being one of those people that hates cliche music I really don't like people that think that the eagles only road hotel California things like that you know I just hate the most obvious a I'm a B. side kind of guy and few years ago I I actually realized that I like under wrote I actually like that song. and they're doing some Springsteen movie or these millennials are trying to get people interested in what they call American iconoclastic you know bands and groups even though they don't have a number one hit there's that commercial and there's this I forget what song and I think it might even be dancing in the dark rage talk about combing his hair which we can all from New Jersey and everything and I kind of thought had gone it a second thought it said you know what maybe I should look in the spring but then listening this bit here I realized that I probably just don't wanna look into Springsteen I think he's over rated do I respect them out of American musician die like Stevie vans and I'm sopranos yes I do but I was it was very interesting to hear that he never had a number one hit it's shocking is what it is I mean you you would think that Bruce has at least six if not ten number one hits but the fact that he has zero really makes you think about American music and how we rate it you know I'm saying. all the first guy that called in actually said you know I you could have a dozen I'm like yeah I bet the guy of the dozen but three the way you went the way you are question they're su I knew was going to I was gonna say maybe one not even one. thanks yeah not even on my dude thank you I appreciate the call he wrote.

"Now all this week. We're looking at ecosystem renewal what why well because if you weeks ago the United Nations announced a ten year plan to restore more than three hundred fifty million hectares of degraded land by twenty thirty today. We're looking at the part mangrove forest could play in this snow on paper. It could be a very big part mangrove forest natural carbon sing storing around four times as much carbon than tropical forests. They also protect the land from erosion during storms Indonesia has more mangroves than any other country. But it's a lost nearly half of all the mangroves at once had now it holds yearly replanting sessions, but plastic sessions don't always work. Ben Brown is a mangrove expert, and he told us small I work with coastal communities. Most of my the last twenty years, and for them mangroves are just about everything the source of their fish protection from storms fuelled would when they need it. And really when the Caesar off. And you don't catch anything deep. Itsy mangroves. You can always come back to the fisherfolk feel like it's their refrigerator away or their supermarket. Yeah. They have shrimp. Clams fish things like that they break down really slow. So they store carbon for a long time. And they start quite a lot of it mostly under their soil. So if you disturb the trees, you end up disturbing the soil, and that carbon is released in the mid it back into the atmosphere, which we're all trying to avoid so all day under threat told by what's going on in terms of climate change. I'd say they're under threat in two ways. So like directly from some human activities, still and indirectly humans again through climate change mangroves only grow in a very specific zone between means e level and high tide and as some of us know sea levels rising coastal communities here in Indonesia note, for sure because their houses are flooded and underwater when they didn't used to be and mangroves to keep up with that. We'll have to migrate a little bit inland. Nd but inland. There's all these things that humans have put their villages and roads hotels, banks cities. We have a term we call it accommodation space where areas can accommodate mangoes, and that's getting less and less. Unfortunately, one thing people try to do is restore mangoes, which is of course. Good. But all too often people plant mangroves where they used to belong or a little too far out to sea below mean sea level where they drown right away. Where you can't it won't work. It's also estimated that up to ninety nine percent of mangrove planting projects have failed worldwide is it because of the space or not planting it in the right position. Yeah, it's pretty much exactly that and there's probably two reasons. One is people don't necessarily know where mangroves belongs. So that's pretty easy to solve. But the other thing is where mangroves should be. And there's competing uses people aren't willing to allow mangroves to grow back. So maybe there's a. Fishpond or big area. Fishponds in Indonesia. We have over a million hectares fishpond taking the place of mangroves. So they try to maybe pay lip service to mangrove restoration planting them out to see. There's no land use conflict. And they die and then they plant them again next year, and it becomes an annual kind of futile event. What's really needed is resolving the land use conflict and putting allowing mangroves to coexist with humans where they belong that was Ben Brown, mango expert. Thank you for your company from Benon. I good.

"So I wouldn't know I wouldn't wear polo. I wouldn't wear a collared shirt, I would just wear a black T shirt, and jeans and sneakers. Okay. Because I think that's like you can wear that out to dinner. And it wouldn't be absurd. Like if you wear a watch if you don't wear a watch not really cool. You wear a watch though with that outfit. You look you look like all right? This guy. He owns some stuff. Clearly he dressed a little bit down. I feel like the richest people dress down the most. Yeah. Right. I think they put less emphasis on their what they look like in more into their business. It's very true. That's what I tell myself. Would you rather end all wars or end world hunger? Donate hunger. I need food. I mean end hunger. Yeah, I I would probably be hungry because I think that affects more people because wars are not are there's a lot of theirs. I'm not a smart, man. You know, there is periods of time where there is war. Right. There's always hunger. So if we could end that that's true. That's nice. I think that goes a longer way. Yeah. If everyone's e I think we're in the green if we go hunger. I think that too. I think that to everyone eats everyone everyone needs if you can relive the last year, we kind of did that on the new year CEPA sewed if you had to lose two limbs your legs your arms, which ones are going lakes. I'm going likes to because then I can get those two magic leaks. Give Madge clicks. What would that Forrest Gump? Dan, Lieutenant day. What are you doing? I am going to be calling. You captain boy get outta. Here. Course. Don't talk to him like that you call him stupid. He's not stove it. It was a good guy. We'll tell you. There was good guys had some problems. He made his peace with God. He did make his peace of God. God, thank you may peace. Go here. His please gall Lieutenant Niamh. Lieutenant Dan ice cream dad is crave. Forrest Gump is the most absurd movie not only are the shots. Amazing like on the running montage, but the soundtrack, I know. Unbelievable. Run. Dune withdrew dawn. Fucking Bob Seger to on their to the whole fucking. Jimi hendrix. What's your favorite album of all time, my favorite album of all time? Putting on the spot. I'll give you some seconds to think about a hotel California by the eagles, but your favorite album. Yeah. It's the third highest selling helm of all time. You know? We're number one is the eagles greatest hits. They just pass them loaded into believed the Beatles. Or maybe thriller thriller is what it was. It was really good. Like, I grew up listening to my mom had it on vinyl. But like I say I've never listened to thriller all the way through it's good. I'm I'm assuming but. Of the white album. Probably. Ooh. I remember at LSU Vassall on that or or abbey Abbey Road. Yeah. Because my mom. When I was younger strawberry, fields, strawberries fees. Because at the end you had like the mix like Paul is Dir everybody thought like Paul was dead like when I came out. But. Between the Abbey Road. I'm gonna go Abbey Road because it's like my mom's favorite Beatles album. So I'll say Abbey Road hotel, California. If you guys have not heard it. It's by the eagles, obviously, hotel, California is like the single off of it Spanish versions. Great to this. So hotel, California great song, obviously. But the reason why I love that album is because the amount of music on it. It's like absurd you have songs like life in the fast lane, which is like really like classic rock star name. Whatever is like a crazy rock song. Whatever then you have songs like wasted time that it it. Almost sounds like was I don't guitar hero to wishes time wasn't on the fast lane one life in the fast lane was but wasted time. When you first put it on it sounds like I believe I can fly by our Kelly who by the way, shots humanity..
