The Five: Rivera Explodes After Gutfeld's Abortion Tirade
"Speaking about loud hearings, how about this exchange yesterday on the 5 on Fox News channel, Geraldo Rivera really fired up? At Greg gutfeld. The other thing that drives me crazy, now that I'm on my soapbox, is it used to be even the pro choicers would admit that abortion was an ugly thing. But they felt it had to be a necessary evil. Something that would be safe and rare. That was the argument you always heard. But now when you go anywhere on social media, it's something to celebrate, to cherish the unfortunate. Just Bologna. Why are hangers stuck up their private trying to get what? The unborn child. This is exactly what I expected. You bring out the old code. Arrogant. Go go for it. Geraldo, come on, keep going. Don't talk to you. You know something? What? You insulting punk? Okay. About your new bungie. Now listen, I'm going to give a little bit of credit, not credit, but a little bit of because I'm thinking what would happen if I called a huge Hewitt, a little insulting punk. I'd probably be fired. I don't think anybody here at Salem would appreciate me calling a colleague an insulting little punk. I also, in fairness to Geraldo, don't think I should call any of my colleagues a fool or that they're making a fool of themselves. I'd probably get fired for that too. As I should, we're a team here. They're a team on the 5, but maybe they have a different standard than we do.
Geraldo Rivera: I'm a Young 78, Biden Is an Old 78
"So I think we better be careful not to just hide behind the feebleness and the elderly status. Did you know by the way that Joe Biden is the same age as Geraldo? Wow. That is hard to believe. Geraldo said it yesterday. He goes, I'm a young 78, and Biden is an old 78. Truer words were never spoken by Geraldo Rivera. But I listen, I want whatever Geraldo's taken. He's 78, and I hope I'm not where Joe Biden is when I'm 70. I probably will be. I'll be worse. Trace, you'll be pushing me around in a wheelchair, trying to get through the radio show. And we'll be yelling about the Discord not working. And how do I push the button down to talk on the Discord?
Utah father charged after allegedly instructing his 4-year-old to shoot at police
"A police official in Salt Lake City is calling it a sad day when a child was apparently told to fire a weapon at police officers the incident occurred outside a McDonald's drive thru in Midvale Utah near Salt Lake City during a dispute over a fast food order police say the man had waved a gun at the pick up window demanding is order be corrected and workers called police the father had to be dragged out of the car a witness says he told the four year old boy in the backseat to shoot the gun an officer was able to smack away the weapon and yelled out kid so that the other officers knew not to shoot there was also a three year old inside the car Salt Lake County sheriff Rosie Rivera says it's a sad day for law enforcement and the community when an adult thinks it's okay to encourage a four year old to shoot at police hi Jackie
Geraldo Rivera Reacts to San Francisco Ousting 3 School Board Members
"This week rather, three school board members were recalled. For focusing on garbage like that, like changing the names of schools rather than deal with getting kids to school in the middle of the pandemic and how we deal with the pandemic and what we do about masks, and mandates and all the other stuff we got to deal with. Here was even Geraldo Rivera yesterday on the 5 pointed out how Democrats are in full fledged panic mode. Democrats seriously freaked out after learning voters are apparently fed up with their woke policies, the blowout in the San Francisco school board, recall election. It's not the only warning sign. Internal polling shows the Democratic Party is losing on key issues from COVID protocols to defunding the police to immigration. So the big fear is that the GOP, the Republicans are winning the culture war. There's dread, real dread spreading among many Democrats that their urban based party could go extinct in rural parts of the country. Some candidates are afraid to even tell voters in those parts. Which party they represent. Even the liberal media is telling Democrats to get it together. Uh
Geraldo Rivera: Giving Ottawa Truckers a Pass Is 'Very Destructive'
"Listen to Geraldo Rivera, guy on the left, Fox News star, listen to his tirade about the Canadian freedom convoy. One man's freedom is at other man's oppression. Their behavior has been nothing short of thuggish in Ottawa. They kept people in the neighborhood awake all night, revving their engines, blowing their horns. They've deprived Ottawa businesses of tens of millions of dollars. Now they're blockading the international bridges. They are laying off people, cutting their ships short and automotive assembly plants because they can't get the parts from Canada to the United States. They used their crowbars to threaten cops who were going to tow their trucks away that were blocking. They've told tow truck drivers that they'll remember them when this is all over. A clear intimidation tactic. To give them the mantle of freedom fighters is absolutely appallingly naive. I spoke into my friends in Canada. They verify what I've said. New York Times has just reported me it's 30 minutes ago. The Globe and Mail that Toronto paper, this is for real. And now it's spreading to other far right groups in other countries and even to this country, I think Martha, I understand the frustration about masks and all the rest of it. But to give these folks a pass is, I think, very destructive. Very destructive, says lefty Geraldo Rivera

NYC Mayor Eric Adams Speaks at the Funeral of Officer Jason Rivera
"Officer Jason Rivera, 22 year old cop gunned down trying to do his job responding to a call last weekend. There's something about the murder of these two cops in New York that is gripped the country. Here's moments ago, mayor Eric Adams at Saint Patrick's cathedral speaking at this massive massive funeral, which does my heart good to see so many people come out and pay tribute to this fallen hero, including the newly elected mayor, Eric Adams. In today's the morning for all of you, the tragic death of your brother in blue uniform is a stark reminder of what is on the line every day. And I'm here sitting next to governor, the state of New York. And senator Chuck Schumer, another elected, we are committed to giving you the resource to do your jobs and ensure that we can keep the people of this city safe. It takes courage to put on the uniform and the badge to answer the call to serve the cause of justice in every sense of the road. Carlo Dolan, this is a biblical moment, scritches scripted states. Greater love have no one than this. That a man lay down his life for his friends. That is what Jason did. He gave his life defending his fellow New Yorkers. That greater love, unites us here today standing side by side.
NYC Councilman Joe Borelli: Kristin Richardson Jordan Is a Disgrace
"'cause I had to ask you about the city council member from Harlem. This Harlem councilwoman is Kristen Richardson Johnson. She tweeted out, sympathy for the relatives the families of both the NYPD officers Jason Rivera and wilbert Mora and the killer. This woman literally we know she's against the police. She's said many times before we got a strip funding from the police, their white supremacists and all the garbage that these lunatics on the left say about our police, but she had the audacity councilman borelli to tweet out sympathies and condolences to the families of the family of this monster. I got to get your take on this councilman. Mike, she's an absolute disgrace. I mean, she is someone who doesn't deserve to be in office. She's someone who doesn't deserve to represent a vibrant and historic community like Harlem, frankly, people who live in her district deserve better. And unfortunately, the voters are stuck with her, at least for the next two years before they can find somebody else. You know, Mike, we have a lot of people in the city council and city government here who are African American who are Democrats who I disagree with all the time. But are fundamentally decent people and when two police officers were murdered serving this city, they all found somehow that the strength to say kind things and supportive things about the men and women of law enforcement. It's almost it's almost like being on Mars to find someone who just can't find kind and comforting words to mention two police officers who are killed in her own district. I mean, police officer Rivera was probably her constituent that the guy lived just a mile or even less from where he was killed. This is a member of her community.

I'm isolating and mask wearing. Which makes me wonder, I'm thinking about that. Are you mask wearing Azure isolated? I'm isolating and mask wearing. 'cause listen, when you get COVID, you don't want to give it to anybody else. But I have to admit, I was in my condo alone, I did not wear a mask in my own home. With COVID, here's a news flash, a whole lot of us are gonna get

Lawyer Jenna Ellis on the Role and Responsibility of a Prosecutor
"Gentlemen, welcome back to the Eric metaxas show. I am Alton sadar, one of two producers of the show, and I'm sitting in for Eric today. And of course, my guest is the lovely Jenna Ellis and it looks like she's somewhere in Italy, I think I mentioned before. But then she straightened me out and told me this whole wonderful story about Disney World. So back to Jenna Ellis at Disney World. It's always great to have the background of the Disney Rivera. I mean, what a wonderful way to wake up and be here in Florida. I mean, my hair is definitely much more curly in Florida than it is anywhere else, but that's the only thing that you have to deal with. That's happened to me too, I curly her hair when I'm in full you feel me, yep, totally. So we were talking about the cow written house trial. And so we might as well continue on with that strain of thought. Yeah, so we're still at this point we mentioned we are recording this show. So as of now, the verdict has not been reached. But I also want to talk about just generally, the role in responsibility of a prosecutor because what I found really fascinating Alban about this case was how the prosecution clearly lost control of the trial. They were not expecting the witnesses that they called to testify actually in really in defense of Kyle's self defense affirmative defense here. And so I think that even though the prosecution sometimes, I don't know how much background they did, how much they prepared for this trial, but it seemed that they were frustrated with their own witnesses. Yeah, it seemed like they were surprised that they actually told the truth on the story. Right, which, you know, which is really unfortunate for a prosecutor because let's remember that in our adversarial system when it comes to criminal justice. This is not let's say me suing you Alban. And so, you know, I have an interest. You have an interest. And we both have private counsel in court. That's not what happens in the criminal justice courtroom. What happens is that the state is prosecuting Kyle rittenhouse. And so the state has to continue on with the interests of justice and do whatsoever justice requires. That's actually the higher calling and the ethical role in responsibility of a prosecutor. And so here, when the prosecutor is basically making a lot of these arguments trying to justify and make these alleged victims into angelic figures, the prosecutor to me went over the line between advocating just for justice going where the facts lead making the best case that he can to actually becoming defense counsel for the alleged victims. And that's where I think he watched
Biden Admits COVID Stimulus Checks Fueled Spike in Inflation But Left Doesn't Get It
"Now Here's this Catherine rampal from The Washington Post I mean this is just comical She's on Brian stelter's show the coffee boy there And stouter of course it's just a great scene doesn't understand any of this though right But she's talking about inflation and comically states that Joe Biden has almost no control on what happens with inflation which is really weird because let me read this to you This is an actual headline I'm not trying to be funny I'm not trying to be silly This is an actual New York Post headline Steve Nelson November 10th 2021 Biden concedes his COVID stimulus checks fueled spike in inflation President Biden wins they conceded that inflation's at a three decade high because quote people have more money now as a result of his $1.9 trillion COVID-19 stimulus legislation recognizing essential point made by people who are arguing against a nearly $2 trillion sequel So just to be clear folks Joe Biden himself is now admitting because his lies have become untenable Joe Biden is now admitting that his decision to engage in this bill is the so called infrastructure bill which is really a poor deal spill right Is causing the inflation crisis because they had to print a lot of money to pay for it But here's the media bringing the righty Jim get very Brown get Mariano out of the bullpen and her Sandman bring the right hand No I love Marietta comparing him to these idiots It's an insult to the great Mariano right Bring it we gotta think of a really bad reliever in the past Bring in There we go there's a Rivera was one of the good guys Think of like bringing turd Ferguson out of the bullpen Bring it to the right Turn Ferguson time Here he comes out of the bullpen We have Ricky Vaughn before they put the glasses on Just a bit outside Here they are Here's the media to the rescue out of the bullpen Catherine rampal say no Biden's got nothing to do with it despite the fact Biden already admitted that their printing a bunch of money has a lot to do with it Check this out My general view about all of this is that the media Republicans and now The White House are laboring under the collective delusion that the president can do something about prices that the president controls prices That is incorrect And yet that is the premise of so much news coverage right now whether it's Fox News or other right wing coverage talking about hashtag Biden or saying you know why is Biden not doing more about gas prices or even more ostensibly more neutral or objective news organizations asking officials at The White House Why aren't you doing something about inflation He is all ready admitted the

"rivera" Discussed on The Kevin Sheehan Show
"Was doing my show ten years ago to the day almost to the exact time a couple of our short of it I was on the air doing my midday show. Which i hook co-hosted with tommy. Tommy and i had the midday show on the team nine on espn nine. Eighty at the time and tommy was on vacation this august. Twenty third two thousand eleven our producer mark stern Who is of course nigel. On the tony kornheiser show Was also off that day or or he may have been scheduled to produce a show later in the day because it was the vacation time of the summer. And there's a lot of mixing and matching going on during these these weeks leading into September so. I was doing the show solo in stephen spector. Who was a part time. Guy at the time and stephen now runs A radio station in kansas city Which is the flagship for the chiefs. he's been doing that for several years. He was a big kansas city chiefs fan even though he was from ear He was a big Chief's fan he ended up getting a job in kansas city. And now he's the program director of it six ten sports in kansas city anyway Steven great guy and he was producing the show with me that day. And here's what it sounded like When the earthquake hit at one fifty one pm we were basically about six minutes away from going off the air for the day. the show ended it too We would've been going off at one. Fifty six fifty seven somewhere around there. It was one fifty one eastern time when the earthquake hit. And this is what it sounded like with me on the air with a caller actually talking as the earthquake hit we were taking calls And stephen producing. I think under spurrier discover the skins were four. Now i won't compare spurrier jin but what i will interrupt you. I don't know if we just had an earthquake here or we're in the midst of earthquake here but the studio is shaking. Stephen what's going on. Have no idea we gotta go. All right folks. Kevin sheehan here. Espn nine eighty our alarms going off. We're not sure what it is in. This building could have been the building but it felt like an earthquake. Stephen am i right. That was freaky. I have to say house. We got to see if anybody's reporting this right now. If you're in montgomery county. We're in rockville. That's where studios are. There was some significant shaking and rattling. We gotta go. How about the caller first of all talking about preseason differences between shanahan and spurrier remember. Spurrier had the famous osaka game and went four. No in the preseason thought This nfl's easy for the old ball coach. He didn't realize there was a big difference between the preseason and regular season in the nfl so i it's so cool to hear that after all these years And thank you to. Steve solomon by the way who kept this sound clip. Because i couldn't find it anywhere So a couple of things happened so you know when we first said we gotta go because specter got into my ear. 'cause somebody come into his Control room in say get sheehan added there we gotta go and so he said that my area so we gotta go and he said what and he said we gotta go nicer we gotta go and then we came back because it wasn't it didn't turn out to be anything big and people were still trying to figure it out out and i said no no we gotta get back in there and get back on the air as long as we can on the air and so we were on the air then for as you heard for like another thirty seconds before our fearless leader our ceo at the time. Rick carmine was his name. Rick opened up the studio door and said to me. Get out now. And that's the last thing you heard were like we gotta go and i. I've talked about this so many times. Because i remember like five and the five year anniversary of this thing. I think everybody had me on their show at the station. Like coach in doc had me on their show and zaven Gall the i think had a what whoever it was. And i do remember one thing i do remember thinking. It was an earthquake right from the jump which i mentioned i. I've never been in an earthquake. But i had been in san francisco with a significant aftershock. a long time ago and it felt like that though. All of the microphones which were suspended from the ceiling hung from the ceiling. Were swaying back and forth. Like you wouldn't believe in the whole thing. The whole studio was shaking but When the ceo was panic-stricken and screamed into the studio. We gotta go now. Then as we were climbing the steps to get out of the building. I did think for a brief moment. That may be like a bomb had gone off in the building. Then i wasn't thinking earthquake at that point but we got outside and was a beautiful day and we looked up in the building was still intact and you know a lot of people. It was weird like rockville. Pike had come to a standstill and And people were just you know everybody had heard at that point that it wasn't earthquake so there you go ten years ago. I'm sure many of you who were in the area at the time. Remember it and yeah I'm sure a lot of people in real earthquake seismic zones or whatever they're called Out west you know had a field day and talking about our five point eight. But i've talked to people. I've got a couple of good friends that live in northern california in particular and they've said to me before look five point eight you know. It's not three point. Eight five point eight is a they've said before that's a pretty good shake and it was. It was a pretty good shake that day. Weird for this area. And we've had a couple of tremors here and there over the years but nothing like that day ten years ago all right. That's it for the day back tomorrow. With tommy i don't know if we just had an earthquake here or we're in the midst of an earthquake here but the studio is shaking. Today's episode is sponsored by the nba. "In general do you think it's important for your first team offense to go into the regular season with a touchdown scoring drive at least or is that something. That's over rated because through two games obviously That hasn't happened and you only have one last crack. Well i think it's important going feeling good about your offense their ability to move the ball do some consistent things I think that's what's important anything else. So i feel pretty good about us. Yes i do would have liked to score touchdowns yes so i would have liked it saying that But i'm not going to sweat it right now. I like exactly what we're doing like how move with the ball and it's just a matter of continue to work and keep improving what we're doing bottom line eight not super important to him either. I mean you heard what he said. It's more important that he sees he talked about moving the football a little bit. And that's what you wanna see. I think but again. These are really hard games for coaches to evaluate the overall production of the team. When you're not gain planning when the game situation isn't necessarily dictating what you're doing. You're doing things to to at times just to get a better. Look at a specific player. That may be on the bubble late. I mean these second halves. I heard somebody call in to our radio station on saturday morning. A caller and. I'm sorry i don't know who was hosting. I think we simulcast it. The one of six seven Saturday morning show a nine eighty and i heard a caller calling in talking. About what a great second half team we were last year and so far. You've seen it in the first two. Preseason games second half team who g you do realize it in the second halves of these games half the players that are playing aren't going to be on your roster in the regular season i end. Look that's a caller okay. But you don't have to worry about overall point sur scoring or third down conversions or time of possession for a game. You want to look at something and you look at your first team offense first team defense you know. Get a sense as to whether or not you're ready to play. I can buy into that. I can't buy into overall you know game stats or from from a preseason game the rivera that i wanted to play for you I thought there was something. A really good question asked that He had a very interesting answer to. I don't know who asked the question. I'm sorry it may been matt paris I'm forgetting right now. But the question you'll hear it. Essentially is about the running back position. And why undrafted running backs make teams more than any other position in terms of undrafted players by the way. I don't even know if that's true but there's something that rings true about that. You know running backs. Historically as young players rookie players have made. The biggest impact is rookies. Because there isn't much to the position really and if you can protect which is so important in today's game then you're going to be out there if you're pretty good at carrying the ball But listen to rivera's answer on this. I thought it was interesting. The theory might be wrong. So i feel free to correct if it is but it seems like a undrafted players. The guy who always kinda make the roster are running back steve. every idea but while position like what about that position sets up for non draft guide to bomb. They used to be a time where used to say. There's so many of a that you're gonna miss on one or two of them on a think what's happened to i think position has been so undervalued in the last recent last few years last Few drafts that I don't think we spend enough time really studying like we should. I was know we were very fortunate. At one of our scouts northeast Pediatric rally absolute loved to kit. He hammered marty and martin him We liked him but just listening to our scouts. Just really kind of just let us know. Hey this guy we got you then you really put the tape on really truly look at the kid and also you stick there something. We had a draft right on and what happened was some of our other major. We were were standing out a little bit more. And i will be honest to chase called 'cause know each other grew up. They work out together and he said hey held my guy doing chase we got on the board. We like okay. I'll tell you he wants to be here. And i do. I listen to the player realistic flyers and so It was one of those. We kept a good i on him. And i really do think what's happened. Is that position is very undervalued right down because everybody's weighing just wanna throw the wall thirty five forty five fifty times a game and only run. It tend to you know so. I think the game's changed a little bit that the value the running back is there like it used to be. You know you don't see a lot of high priced high valued Running backs unless they absolutely essential in terms of the past ed. So that's something that's kind of slipping right now at a curiosity. What was your draft grade on. It was a good gripe good great it was good enough to be drafted us for sure interesting that he suggests that the position isn't scouted the same way anymore. I actually find that sort of hard to believe because to me. It seems like no player at any position. You know no stone is left unturned. And you know. I could see on the long snapper front on maybe even on the kicker and punter and You know missing something in in scouting. Especially if you've got that position already nailed down but Jerry patterson you know had name recognition in college football last year. He tied the ncw record with eight touchdowns in a game so i thought he would get drafted. He was one of the backs that i talked about coming out that i really liked and figured he'd be honestly i figured he'd be like a fourth round pick and he didn't get drafted at all but it is interesting to hear rivera. Talk about in this era. Just running backs potentially not being scouted in the same way. There was a time where running backs were loaded and they were at the top of every draft. It's been a while I understand that but you know to me. Patterson wasn't wasn't lightly scouted. You know And i'm not suggesting that he was talking about patterson specifically but when he tied the record the the Ncwa record with eight touchdowns in a game and rushed by the way for four hundred nine yards in that game. He was eighteen yards of the single game. College record held by somali. J. p. rhine. Who did it for oklahoma in twenty. Fourteen I think that you know people especially while i can tell you this betters knew who he was. Because he was part of the mid american conference the mac And you saw a lot of what we call. Mac shit on tuesday nights and wednesday nights and Anyway i thought that was interesting. Answer from ron rivera. I lied. There's one more ron rivera bite he did. He was asked about what the plan is for this week. heading into the ravens game. We've talked a lot about how these teams are all doing it differently right through through two preseason games teams. That haven't played anybody. They just haven't played anybody yet So and i'm talking about their key players they're not going to and then other teams like washington. They played a lot of their players. Including their starters. This was rivera on the plan for the third and final. Preseason game approaches liberty as a as a as a regular season week we will. We'll put together one hundred percent game plant we will introduce it to the players on Let's on tuesday. So tuesday will technically be. What are normal. wednesday will be. Wednesday are normal thursday. Thursday will be our normal friday bars. Game play a game plan. Prep i want to see how we handle that as we go through these things almost everybody seems to adjusted adapt. We'll pay attention to how these guys retain how they adjust just how they handle the whole week that this could be routed indicator as to s to our readiness or in terms of getting ready for the regular season. So we'll approach that and you know everybody will get you know. They'll they'll get their game plans just like would normal week so we're gonna approach it that way again where he's gonna try to guys have the holy of preparation what you didn't hear him say in that answer because he talked a lot about.

"And you want veteran presence and you went better decision making more experienced decision making. That's fine if you don't think you're a deep into the postseason kind of team You play the rookie. We've done this before. This exercise of quarterbacks taken in the top half of the draft over the last ten eleven years that essentially. If you don't play in the first five weeks of your rookie season and your name isn't patrick mahomes than you. Pretty much sucked. And that's why you didn't play. So i think personally. We will see justin fields in the first five weeks of the season. The other thought on this is their offensive. Line is a train wreck and fields is the kind of player that can make a bad offensive line. Not look better but can create opportunities for your offense to stay on the field where they gave the daltons just gonna get. Bum rushed but anyway Interesting decision. i don't think it's a a decision that a lot of chicago. Bear fans are happy about. That's for sure A couple of other Quick nfl news items. First of all. tennessee coach mike variable tested positive for cove in nineteen. Just so you know for those that were asking and i saw on. Twitter will was vaccinated or unvaccinated therein that tier of employees -e's in an nfl team were. They wouldn't be there. If they weren't vaccinated they were required to get vaccination coaches staff members et cetera so he was vaccinated but he got cove anyway to more. Nfl things To mention in them. We'll get to a lot of the stuff that ron rivera said on saturday following the cincinnati game That i thought was interesting. But first up is dak prescott. How about the schefter report from over the weekend schefter reporting that dak prescott quote. He's not fully back. He may not be back all season. Long closed quote. He's not suggesting that the shoulder strain that he has may keep them from playing but that he may not be fully back and fully healthy that changes the division. You know dallas goes from the favourite to the team picked to finish last in the division. If dak prescott is hampered on this year i mean who do they have a garrett gilbert bend nudo or dina cheer whatever. His name is Cooper rush. They're in big trouble without prescott big big trouble It would be such a disappointment and would be so funny and pleasant for all of us. If prescott isn't completely healthy a last thing real quickly before we get to the rivera stuff is this. Nfl top one hundred list. Terry maclaurin not being on it I talked about it last week. Remember said with aga. Aj brown at sixty two mclaren's definitely not going to be on the list will. He wasn't the only players on the list are a brandon sheriff and chase young At sixty one and really you know. What terry mcchord should be on that list. As i mentioned last week certainly in front of coal beasley certainly. In front of corey davis. I think personally even though he's a slot receiver in front of chris godwin But he's not so. Hopefully this'll be used by him and anybody else. That didn't make it. Montas sweat jon allen. Doron pain Who am i forgetting Who else could be considered for that Top one hundred whatever hopefully they'll use it as incentive. It's a players popularity contest. We've talked about that. It's like the equivalent of the pro bowl. They vote for who they like. They don't get to play these guys and even get to watch a lot of these guys and sometimes it's tied to to an agent that they share or you know a marketing rep that they share I wouldn't get too hung up on it. I know many of you are and i would have preferred to have seen terry on that list to. I think he deserved it he. He's one of the top one hundred players in the game. The receivers that ended up being on the list. All the way up to number eleven which is where they are into the top ten He's going to be like the number twenty wide receiver in the game. He's better than that But as we talked about a few weeks ago. I don't know that he's a lot better than fifteen right now. But it could be a lot of what ron rivera said on saturday about the friday night game but more importantly just about a lot of stuff related to the quarterbacks that's next right after these words from a few of our sponsors. Today's episode is sponsored the nba and their quest to advance the game of basketball wrote the community and impact culture. The league celebrates its teams players and fans across the past president. Huger as part of its seventy fifth anniversary season that's game highlights pivotal moments on court and beyond from.

"Want it. Don't meet it but you're gonna get it anyway. Kevin is kevin not along show today but a lot of ron rivera from his zoom. Press conference on saturday. He said a lot about the quarterbacks he also had a very interesting take on the running back position. And i want you to hear that as well What is going to be typical. I think of the next few weeks and really during the season as well Is that newsbreaks. After my radio show says sometimes the first chance to talk about it is on the podcast. In stevenson's junior was released Right after the radio show today haven't had a chance to weigh in on that. Not a surprise. If you listen to my recap show from cincinnati game on on late friday night or saturday morning. I thought he didn't do himself. Many favors short arm. That long ball. By kyle allen from kyle allen in the second half and let's face it. He was a major liability on returns last year. I think that there was a lot of excitement. Prior to last year about what they saw from sims junior on tape and the way they viewed him in scott turner's offenses a guy that could potentially be a guy that touched the ball. Five six seven times a game in a lot of different areas because of his playmaking ability But ultimately you know that's a curtis samuel role. That's an atom humphries role And scott turn will use a lot of people in that role I think the lead returner is clearly. De'andre carter unless they give patterson a chance on saturday night to return punts gave him a chance to return kicks against the bengals and he returned one. Thirty seven yards. But it would appear is if the andre carter. is going to be the last receiver and then the lead returner. I don't know feel also returned. Kickoffs protect potentially could be patterson on kickoffs in carter and punts. I'm sure from a roster spot standpoint you know when we get to the regular season they wouldn't mind having one guy fill both positions That would be a nice luxury. To have carter is the punt returner and the kickoff returner or to have patterson is both We'll see how that gets handled. I'd actually like to see patterson get a chance to return a punt on saturday night against the Against the ravens who have one now. Nineteen preseason games in a row that ties the packers record. We talked about that last week. So washington has a chance to end the ravens six year. Preseason win streak people. Ask me about what that means. Somebody said you think it's more harbaugh or more that they've been a good team with really good depth over the years you know. The depth thing is clearly You know probably tied into this. Is that when they're playing their second and third teamers And probably they're releasing players. That were pretty good. That made other teams that they performed better than maybe some other teams. But i think it's more horrible. I think it's just his total disposition that everything is about a philosophy About an identity the ravens are are tough their physical they take things seriously and You can debate among yourselves as to whether or not you think it's paid off obviously the link between You know you could make a link between preseason winning and all of their winning seasons but the truth is during some of those winning seasons. The ravens didn't make the post season they didn't have Great years you know if you go back to twenty sixteen for the ravens They didn't make the postseason. They lost at the end of the year in a in gut wrenching fashion To go eight didn't make make make the postseason in twenty seventeen. They didn't make the postseason finish. Nine and seven in cincinnati beat him in the final game of the year on a bomb late and then twenty. Eighteen remember was the year that they ended up going from flacco to jackson. They did make the playoffs but they needed to mak- a big run at the end of the year To finish ten and six and make the postseason So anyway it's not like they have won a super bowl during this preseason run and you know it's not even like they've been to an nfc afc title game. They lost to the chargers that that one year they got shocked at home by tennessee and then last year they won a game before losing in the divisional round buffalo so They've been a good regular season team that will or a competitive regular season team. Certainly the last three years anyway The cutdown is tomorrow by four. Pm the eighty five to eighty washington resigned david sharp off the cove nineteen list so they actually have five players to cut several people asking me on twitter. Who do you think they're gonna cut tomorrow. I have no idea. I actually have one player. That i'm convinced won't get cut and mention him here in a in a few moments But the cutdown date. Tomorrow's eighty five to eighty and then a week from tomorrow. It goes from eighty to fifty three. And then you'll end up with. I think one of the best fifty three man. Rosters that this franchise is had in fifteen to twenty years. It's true Two thousand five. Maybe two thousand in terms of the co- the completeness of the roster. Yeah i think that's true when it gets cut down to fifty three this year so anyway i wanted to mention one player. I mentioned this player on radio this morning. With ben standing 'cause i found him in my notes that i don't think i mentioned him on saturday but i was looking through my notes and i failed to mention him. I think in my recap podcast on saturday. But i wanted to mention him because he ended up with more defensive snaps than any player in the game. And i wrote this note to myself friday night number. Thirty key always makes his presence felt key may not be a great player. He may not make the final roster. Cooley used to say about accu my god. He's got major depth perception issues. Like he can't tell where the ball and the receiver are you know as the final man and we've seen that from him and coverage but my god does he run well and he hits and tackles and he was a really good special teams player last year. So i don't know if. I don't think he's gonna get cut in this eighty five eighty and i i don't know if he'll make the final squad. I don't know but man every single time he plays and i went back and looked at this. He played more defensive snaps than anybody in the game. Abc he can really motor and he really can tackle in hit coverage though is an issue for him. I wanted to mention there was some. Nfl news today. Also after the radio show Some interesting nfl news. First of all it would appear as if matt nagy the head coach of the chicago. Bears is going to go with andy dalton as his starter when the season begins He's gonna you know not take a chance on justin fields as a rookie. He's going to go with matinee nagy nagy Had a press conference. Today talked a lot about the decision making that andy dalton's made even though he hasn't made a lot of plays he loves the decision making And you know. I've looked at the bears a little bit as i've looking through the league at various teams really with for the purposes of just looking at some prop bets over under batson. It may be some division bets as well. You know the bears actually have a decent roster defensively like they should be pretty good defensively. They've been good defensively. No chicago There's another report Actually just reminded me that. The raiders actually tried to trade for khalil. Mack again in the offseason to bring him back. I mean that trade was incredible but The bears didn't want anything to didn't want to have anything to do with it. But they have khalil mack. They've got a hicks. They've got roquan. Smith who really busted out Last year It's a. It's a decent defensive. Football team not coached by vic fangio anymore. And i i think vic fangio's one of the great defensive minds in the game but a decent Decent defense with decent playmakers in alan robinson and with the emergence last year of david montgomery and then coal commit the second round tight end at notre dame last year but they have two big issues Offensive line is a disaster. They added jason peters But it's a disaster and then at quarterback that's why they you know traded up to draft justin fields their two ways to look at this team. You know if you are matt nagy and you think you can be a competitive team. This year and fields isn't ready.

"Interesting when training camp begins in all of the beat reporters. And we've got a really good group of beat reporters that cover the team. Obviously you know i. I like a lot of them. John ben standing j. p. finley Nikki giovanni la michael phillips the list goes on and on of people covering the team that I really think they do a phenomenal job in on the beat. You know. there's a difference between the guys on the beat and people who are columnists or people like me who do long-form talk shows The people on the beat our reporters. They're there to report what's going on now. Some of them also have opinion formats. Inner j. p. finley's doing a radio show right now. Bent standing has a podcast But you know ben's primary job is being the beat reporter for the athletic. And so i always think in these early days of training camp as you know the first day in all of our reporting on as ben digest recently He writes we just had a taylor. Heineke deep completion to sammy. Raise go nuts. Wf twitter And you get that coming out. And there is an audience for that there is definitely a market for that and that always fascinates me because honestly the regular season ends up being so much different than anything we see. Even in the pre season games let alone in a training camp practice. And you know as we all know. Sometimes by the time we get to the middle of the nfl season. It doesn't even closely reflect what we saw in the early season As far as a football team goes but there is clearly an audience for blow by blow training. Camp play by play That always interests me to me. The big stories that come out of training camp are obviously the ones you don't want which are injuries to key players and then you know learning from what the coaches tell you what the reporters are seeing in terms of. Who's taking the most first team reps and that's going to start to give you clues as to who's going to make the team and we'll get a lot of that too in the preseason games you don't necessarily need that From the training camp practices But those are the things that come out of training camp to get wrapped up into how jimmy morlin plays diani brown in a seven on seven. Drill I think is a bit much but i. I'm not blaming those Out there that that give you that kind of detail is clearly. There are people that are into it now. There was something tweeted out by one of the beat reporters earlier this morning Or within the last hour or so That i actually am interested in nicki jabballah from the washington. Post wrote that steven sims. Dax milne isaiah. Right and de'andre carter are taking reps at punt returner. I have wondered you. Know who is the punt returner. They haven't had a big time punt returner and remember last year. Stevenson's junior was a disaster. Like at one point it was like how do you even risk putting him back there again. i don't know that stevenson's junior or isaiah right or de'andre carter or dax milner even gonna make the team. They're all receivers with guys. Like maclaurin samuel diomine brown cam sims. Adam humphreys maybe even antonio gandhi golden in front of him. That's six guys. I didn't even mentioned kelvin harmon. Now one of guys is good enough to be a receiver and is their best punt returner. That may be the difference in keeping them on that final Post that final cut down. But you know there are guys like danny johnson who are on the team He's been back there before you know it's possible that a guy like antonio gibson could be used potentially or stroman. I think that's one of those things that you know we're gonna learn in. The preseason games are going to give guys that are on the border of making the team anyway. A chance to to really shine a punt. Returner is special teamers But they don't have anybody right now. That's obvious punt returner. I don't know that that. Jerry patterson who may or may not make the team as an undrafted free agent out of buffalo Does it you know. Lamar miller's done it before But i don't know how many backs they're gonna keep. You know it's gibson mckissick in barber right now. I would think are the best bets to make the final roster but who knows may be May be a lamar miller. Or jared patterson would be a fourth and then would be in there as returner. You know i. i'm not so sure. Kendall fuller couldn't be a part of that Either anyway. That will be one of those things that maybe we won't even know to be honest with you until final cut down and we get to the opener but punt returner is something that it would be nice to have somebody that could really flip the field on occasion without the threat of fumbling Because we've had more threats of fumbling in recent years then field flippers That's a big part of the game. You know kick returner not as much anymore But punt returner still important back to the vaccination rates With washington and ron rivera's Response which we talked about with all the earlier. I'm assuming at this point that many of you have already seen this. But if you haven't tj ward a past safety in the nfl pretty good one in denver and in various spots Saw the ron rivera reaction to the Vaccination rates on his football team and tj ward decided to respond on twitter. One of the tweets that he put out there was. Don't blame the players. You're lifelong health decisions. i've never seen that's not true. I have probably. But i don't know that i've ever seen a more overwhelming negative response to a tweet many times you'll get on with your brother. Well said you know. At least one out of ten. It was ten out of ten and there were hundreds. If not thousands of responses he pulled the tweets eventually and they all said essentially the same thing you ignorant. Mean spirited person. What a dummy. Like ron rivera chose cancer one of the you know. I'm sure it's it doesn't go down as a top five or top ten but it's up there in in terms of athletes in terms of some of the dumbest and meanest tweets of all time Aaron rodgers reported yesterday after they got whatever deal they got worked out and they traded for. Randall cobb who knew that randall. Cobb was the reason that aaron rodgers wasn't coming back. But i did get a kick out of what aaron rodgers was wearing. He showed up in an office. t-shirt A kevin malone a t shirt. He's a huge office fan. I'm a big fan of brian. Baumgartner's deep dive office podcast. I listened to it. All the time and aaron rodgers was actually a guest on an aaron. Rodgers is a massive massive Office fan but the best tweet about what. Rogers looked like walking back into green. Bay's facilities yesterday with slicked back long hair and big ass sunglasses in this office. T shirt and a backpack and shorts and sandals. Somebody tweeted out. And i don't know who this person was. Michael sell pheno tweeted out. Rogers looks like he just changed into these clothes. After being hosed down by the wolf the wolf of course from pulp fiction harvey keitel and the famous scene with samuel jackson and john travolta when the wolf says you're thirty minutes away i'll be there in ten and they called the wolf end to clean up the mess And then travolta and samuel l. ended up with t shirts that looked very much like to shirt that aaron rodgers was wearing when he reported to work yesterday. That was the best tweet on the aaron rodgers. look by miles rogers. Looks like he just change into these clothes after being hosed down by the wolf. that's it for today back tomorrow with tommy. You're jimmy right. this is your house. Sure is i'm winston wolf problems. Good we got one heard of.

"Could And maybe they have done that So that's that's possible. I i. I don't know like how much they're involving him. And all this right now but that's certainly possible. The other thing is that due to start thursday which is crazy. I would be shocked if he makes that. Start but We'll see It's been it's been a. It's been at some multi last week with the net. So who knows what happens. That i just i in listening to you and thinking about especially that nationally west. We're the third place team You know are the padres in there like seventeen games for whatever over five hundred you know. Usually the the best deal comes in at the last minute you and and you weren't that bidding war to develop so hopefully they don't. They don't do it too far in advance with respect to strasbourg in his season ending surgery. This is obviously The theme of his career is never been quite healthy enough and he's got all these years left on the seven year. Two hundred sixty five million or whatever was deal that he did a few years ago. How bad is this deal right now. For the franchise. Well it. it's a. It's the calamity from a sports standpoint. This is the worst contract work and I think with everything going on with the national. So you have all the trade stuff you have trade center testing positive for covert nineteen. Isn't that long ago. You had a game suspension. Due to gunfire outside national part but number one development over the last few weeks is what came out yesterday with strasbourg. This is a huge deal. What he got diagnosed with i. I don't think this is getting attention. This this thing that he got diagnosed with the rafic outlet syndrome. That is a doomsday. Scenario for pitchers l. That that that is what tommy. John surgery was like thirty years ago. Like we don't now at tommy. John guys undergo it come back from a just fine sometimes come back from but he did better. Some is under. Got it all time. -til let is something very different -til as a career record a career ruined her when people talk about someone like that horrible. What happened to that. Rv t. asses is what happened to matt. Harvey ruined matt harvey. He'll let has ravaged careers. And you know what strasbourg i have to say. I genuinely feel sorry for like he. His career never going to be the same now his career and i'm not trying to beat dramatic. His career in essence could be over because of this procedure that he's supposed to undergo on wednesday. We don't know what he's going to pitch again. Matt harvey comeback in pitch. He actually pitched pretty well against the nats on saturday night. Because i was there. But how many careers has it ended. Ended like okay. Harvey's career is over. But he's never the same again. Harvey underwent this josh beckett underwent visit. You know it's not a lengthy list because it's it's not something that everyone undergo is there. Anybody been a success after it. No not really not. I mean. Alex cobb under win it though. He's been okay but no one comes back from it. And it's like as good as he was before. Okay and especially with someone like strikes for recruits already. There was thirty th and has a lengthy injury history. This does not look good at all. Like i really can't overstate this. This is this was horrendous news. And it's horrendous for him personally and it's horrendous for the nationals. This contract is a complete the bockel debit years. Two hundred forty five million dollars. He's made seven. Total starts over these last two regular seasons and the striper who we came to know right in two thousand nineteen. There's a very good chance we never see that again. I don't even know if he's gonna make it through this contract. In fact i think it's almost fifty fifty whether he ends up happening retire at some point over the next few years and again i i don't say this stuff flippantly. I'm not trying to be like overly all god you know. The world is ending like t. Os is a big deal in baseball. It's not good at all. It's basically the last thing you want is a pitcher baby. Bucked the trend. i mean. obviously everyone's going to be rooting or but But the this is a very bad predicament. That the accurate out with him and his contract in thinking about the team next year if you start unloading all those people. Obviously the untouchable is soto What are you really. I mean it's amazing that two years after winning the world series worst farm system and a team that no one will recognize when it takes the field in two thousand twenty two. Yeah i mean look. They couldn't theory create these guys and resign. Okay assures her say he wants to find a place to get traded to where he can stick around and sign an extension. You know if it's in. La or san diego san francisco. Right so i. I don't know how likely doing that. It's possible but look all these leaves you at the end of the year. So if you don't want to treat them They're to go by at the end of the season because stupid they. They read the writing on the wall to the people who don't let trait baxter's or what would be better than he walked away. He added a year little real content in fact for him. And that was it with al. We had some phone issues That we could not overcome their But it's great to catch up with al. Get his thoughts on the football team and certainly get his expertise as it relates to The net situation is they will be sellers here over the next twenty four to forty eight hours As we approach the trade deadline A few more things to finish up on right. "Not less could argue with an emcee calorie playoff. We're like yeah. They made the playoffs. But that that was not even a lot of ways especially on often. Would you wanna be your team. That is good in multiple facets and that you look at you say all right maybe the record was only eight nine but boy was that a good eight and nine team boy. Was that a team. You lost them close games but they were so much better on offense. The defense did take that next step and the team. Even in games that lost was we. We talked about like you want to see that next. Step taking your. I think if we see that will be pleased with the season. And i do expect to see that. Yeah i i expect that we will see an improve football team that could potentially produce lesser results than last year Now not less than seven wins. If it's an improved football team. They're going to win at least eight but eight could be eight. Nine nine could be nine eight and it may not amin playoffs. But i think to your point. I think those of us That watch closely and watch every single game. I'd be i'd be upset if we didn't see a team that was improved on both sides of the ball and the that could mean that they're in really good games against some really good teams if the teams on their schedule. End up being as good as You know a lot of people potentially think they are at least on offense but I don't know that that delivers From a playoff perspective. I hope it does But you know it's the nfl man. Yeah it's it's impossible to predict. I do think it's fascinating though what you said about About ron rivera that you know. He may have the highest approval rating of any coach in the league. I think a lot of that has to do with the cancer. A but be Side by side with the worst owner In the league and any team that appears to be making progress in the face of all on the owners produced from a anyway Can we talk about the nats. Absolutely i will do that. Right after these words from a few of our sponsors. Hey guys you wanna keep that full head of hair you wanna keep losing it..

"There are some people who like you said if you had covert ninety like for instance i night the right people are making a big deal at ignited. Speak that up and not potentially having been vaccinated. Well i is one of the guys who was put on a covert nineteen with last year Perhaps he had it and he has the antibodies. And he's like well. I don't either that you know you know everyone's kind of going to be different. In that regard it was a powerful bowman to with ron. You know saying hey. Avocado deficient like i guess. We all kind of suspected that within having had cancer but we weren't sure of that for him the reveal that for him to really sound off on his frustration on tuesday. It's not something Clearly that you're seeing everywhere and he put a voice to that and he's he's clearly trying to pressure these guys to get back to the needed. I don't know how well it's going to work you know again like you. I'm not big into shaming people into doing this but You know this team with. It's such a good job with his last year. It really does stand out that it's been among the worst if not deeper themes determined to get back and and yet you know a year ago. They without a vaccination they. They sailed through the season without any issues whatsoever. One of the few teams not to have any. So you know that could be coincidence. That could be luck or that could have been something that they did. I tend to think it's probably a combination of both But yeah it's There's a lot of look. I'm not going to sit here and try to to say that. There's a lot of complexity to the decision. But there's a lot of complexity to the information and you know where where where you get the information and what you believe by the way. Lamar jackson not practicing today in baltimore because of issues related to kobe a nineteen remember. Baltimore had lots of issues. I'm last year With covert Yacht tried to try to start canceling some of these games with the new t. Tv deal and see how the networks feel about it. Postpone them reschedule him. It was fine last year. They got through every single game and nobody really sweated. The fact that on tuesday afternoon you had to watch a game at five o'clock anyway Last one on the football team. And then i want to get to the nets with you. And what's what's upcoming. I do sense and i do feel like and you're already seeing it with some of the pictures. That are coming out of richmond with the crowds. That are there now. We'll find out what the crowds actually are. But they've been l- they were lined up early this morning and that's typically the case with the first day we're fans are allowed to be in into training camp. Even when they've been terrible there have been some lines on that very first day. But i think the expectations al are as high as they've been in a while National pundits you know are weighing in on washington is a team that many think will win the division Many think have a chance to win playoff games. They all point to the defense you know. In some of the additions authencity A speak In your own words to the expectations relative to where we've been in the past and then be whether or not you think they can reach him so i love the the big crowds at least initially a camp. We'll see if that continues. I do think though. There's an energy with this team there. Is you know sort of like an oath with the fan base with the team that we haven't had in a while. I think that's a function of a lot of different things you know coming out of the pandemic not being able to do something like go to training camp last year as a reason. You have in ron rivera. Now a head coach who is like universally beloved you know there. There aren't many people in the nfl with a higher approval ratings than the rating for rod rivera. I- it's so funny. The juxtaposition washington may have the single most despised person in the nfl dan snyder. And maybe the single below. I ron rivera And you also have some star power now like chase young is is. I don't wanna say superstars only played for one year but he's tracking toward that like he has a name value in cash. Eight at not many washington players have had in recent years. So i think it's pretty cool to have all of that going on here in terms of washington. Delivering on the hype. Look i think this is going to be a solid two pretty good team this year. I i don't think it's going to be a great team. Like look for that to be the case. I think you know being a little Fan boy to just you know. Assume it's going to be the case. But i think it'd be good. I think it's going to be a kind of year. Where because the schedule at least for now looks like it's going to be a lot harder. The team could be better but the record could be worse. But i think we as fans will be able to tell you this team take another step forward and that's really what i'm hoping for for this year i i know progression in the. Nfl isn't always linear but if last year was sort of a surprising way what i want this year is.

"They're going to win a lot of close games. they're going to be in a lot of close games. You know it's You know. I've never played the schedule game. People are criticizing me for playing it more than i've ever played before. And that's just the slate of offensive quarterbacks and you know and and receivers in just offensive teams that they're facing. I don't know that any any teams ever faced this level of top ten quarterbacks for the volume of top ten quarterbacks but you know they were in close games last year And i just. I know why coaches like him. I know i. Special teams coaches love him. The ball explodes off his foot and he gets elevation right away. They're always looking for that. But i still don't trust them in a big spot and i am surprised that they didn't bring in and they didn't look for an answer. There aren't many of them out there you know. There are teams like the vikings last year. That had a major problem with special teams and kicking. and you know they. They don't it's not like they're a bunch of great kicker sitting around there waiting to be signed But i i was concerned. The last few years with hopkins. Hope it works out. Yeah i talked about hopkins at length. Podcast recently interesting. Ron rivera like we remember after the detroit game last year said they were considering replacing. Ended up not doing that. The hope is that the dustin hopkins of the second half of that season at the guy the latest. Your hopkins did not get off the good start last year but actually the season went on. What the bulk feels. Great in the win at pittsburgh so you gotta hope that guy. That guy is there. It is remarkable though doesn't hopkins is going into your seven of being washington's kicker watson. Thank god them after week. One of the twenty fifth season. He's been the kicker ever since. Like when i was a kid you know. Chip low miller was washington's kicker. And i and i was like. Wow he's been the kicker forever we're now if like ship. Low miller territory in terms of how long dustin hopkins has been can kicker. It is remarkable. Because i don't think most people view him as like this all time. Great kicker in washington history but he's had a tenure that would be reflective of someone who's had this great run. I mean he he's. He's laugh at multiple coaching staff. He's through struggle. He's been hurt. Nobody had that guy. Dick rose a few years back when hockey dealing with an injury hopkins retained his job. Then there's like a teflon nature to him. That really is remarkable every year. He's the kicker and every year. it's almost like he's unchallenged. which also interesting. because he isn't justin tucker. He is in stephen gostkowski but yet every year. It's like Yeah that's hopkins. He's kicker waddington resigned. This off season signed resigned. Them early in the oddities and every indication is that he's going to have the out this your unchallenged. Yeah you know he. He did have a better finish to the season on field goals but he missed that crucial extra point in the seattle game which was huge when they were driving late. They're down five instead of down. Three would have had a chance to win. Nick rose a grape is a great pool. Because i think. And i'm trying to look this up real quickly. I think he had in in a game against the vikings at fedex kicked a fifty six yard in that dead. But you can't be in this league in this. In this age a seventy nine point four percent field goal percentage guy. You just can't But again i i know. The reason that coaches in special teams coaches love him the ball explodes off his foot. A gets elevation. He's a great kickoff guy as well but man there have been big big. Missed kicks over the years and even some big missed extra points over the years like last year in the seattle game Before we get to the nats. I wanna get to ron rivera for those of you that that missed it. Ron rivera By the way. I had him on the radio. Show this morning. You can go to the team ninety dot com and listen to that interview. I recorded it yesterday right after the show so it was basically twenty four hours later and so all of the vaccine stuff had not come out The reports yesterday that washington had the lowest player vacs rate in the nfl at sixty percent having received at least one dose on that means forty percent of their players of their ninety. Not of the final fifty. Three we don't know what it'll be of the final fifty three but forty percent of their ninety. Haven't even gotten the first shot so they are clearly hesitant to get the vaccine. It's the lowest rate in the nfl. The average in the league right now is eighty four percent. There are fourteen teens. According to reports that have over ninety percent of their players vaccinated and ron rivera was upset about this and rivera said that you know he is immune deficient and that he's frustrated Very frustrated with the response even though they've really attempted To educate and inform they brought in that world leading immunologist about a month in a month and a half ago. He said i'm frustrated. I'm beyond frustrated. And i took calls al this morning on this simple question you know. Will this response. From ron rivera about a low the lowest vaccine the vaccination rate in the nfl. Is it potentially a team dividing issue..

"That. The whole thing with josh norman. He's not traveling and tonio. Brown jackson is someone who potentially can do that. And what that could mean for the defense. I think is pretty intriguing. Yeah look they had A highly ranked pass defense last year. And you said it. I think a lot of that had to do with the opponents in the backup quarterbacks in the third string quarterbacks they were playing. I don't think it has anything to do with zone versus man. There are a lot of zone teams that get torched And end up on the wrong side of that. But you know it's not just as. I'm sure you've talked about and i talked about A lot The quarterbacks that they're going to be facing this year to your point there are so many star receivers the hair going to be facing this upcoming season. You know you start with keenan allen then you get you know you get a digs in week three Well yet golladay in the second game digs in the third game. You get michael. Thomas potentially get torri kill you get devante atoms. You get mike evans. You get decay metcalf you get you know. Lamb amari cooper. They're going to have to be a better. You know they're going to have to have a guy that can really cover Or they're potentially gonna get torched by some really good offenses. But i think it still comes back to Against any of these teams. They've got to establish a much better. And more consistent run defense. And i think all of that will lead to you. Know what ron rivera said the day he got here. Which is we're going to stop the run on the way to the quarterback and pass rush. You know helps everything By the way. I agree i fitzpatrick is the answer for that. I have i mean. I hope that he's the most valuable off season acquisition. If he isn't then they're probably not going to be a double digit win. Team i guess taylor heineke and or kyle allen could step in and lead them to something Significant if it's not fitzpatrick. But i think the answer to that is ryan fitzpatrick. This is a roster. Al that i think people are as confident in the overall strength of the roster As they've been in a long long time with that said who among the projected starters. And i'm talking mostly veterans because we don't know what jamieson davis is Who concerns you the most. Well i do wonder about someone like charles leno they bring him in. He got released by the bears. I know just because you get released. That doesn't mean that you're a terrible player. But there's a reason you get released you know we've seen washington get burned by this kind of thing in the past where the team brings in someone who whose name recognize who you know has had success. You say geez how come that guy was available and he comes here and he's a shell of what it used to be. You know whether you're talking about ryan clark second. Go round our member. When jim has what was it. Offensive coordinator the free safety that he loved this guy at talk way. Watch them and he wasn't he wasn't close to being what he was so i do wonder a bit about leno and you know not that. I think he's going to be a train wreck. There's a reason he got. Let go but like you have to say all right. He's gonna be playing left tackle. Is he going to be good at that spot. So that's sort of thing. I wonder about you know along the same line someone like bobby mccain like i look at bobby mccain and i'd say man. There's a lot to like about this guy. Why did the dolphin let them go. And then i'm like the dolphins were smart team. The dolphins seven offensive minded head coach bryant. Laura's wet they just doing a really good job they obviously had their reasons for that. So if bobby mccain and being the door to restate the or end up playing a lot at nickel corner which he's done in the past Is he up to the task. Or the dolphins realize something with bobby mccain that maybe the rest of us did not. You know it interesting. The contract that washington gave mccain is like nothing contract though there wasn't a big market for mccain. So just things like that right like would you when you gobble up those who've been discarded by others always have to wonder about why were those guys discarded by the others. Yeah i mean look you you you could. You could make the case that ryan fitzpatrick has had all of these opportunities and yet every single team he's ever been on. They've always been looking for a better looking blonde basically then him so you know that that is I think we're excited. Because the quarterback play was so bad. And he's coming off two of his better years of his career really the two best years of his career. And you know he's got some of that leadership in some swag in the whole thing But those that are skeptical. Have good reason. I think to be skeptical. I just think we're catching him in a more. I guess a more optimistic that we're catching him at. Maybe you know The the the biggest moment of his career and maybe the best moment of his career. I'm just going to say that i. I don't know why this team continues to put as much faith in to their kicker Like they have. This is the second straight coaching staff. That is totally bought in to dustin hopkins. This year is going to be a year that if they do have a good team end up with a good record more likely than not..

"The doubt about that and we saw last year especially especially like early in the year like the defense was far from parade early in the year. The year went on defense. Got better obviously washington based a A cascade of opposing quarterback that wasn't exactly murders row. That helped out. But i think the big key for this season really. Is the passing game being better. But we're still in the running game. They've got to be able to throw the football or effectively. Got to have more explosive. Plays to to the teams credit. This was certainly recognized. I mean that that was clearly a gold in the off season to set things up so that they bent the passing game can be more explosives. And i really think that's what this season comes down to it a lot of ways because especially with the scheduling all these great quarterbacks that teams that face you're not going to be holding teams but thirteen points gaming game out. You're gonna get some stuff that you max firepower enough to where you can win some games. You know thirty one. Twenty eight thirty five thirty two. That sort of thing yeah. Hopefully there aren't too many of those. But i do think you're one hundred percent right. They clearly address the fact that they weren't very explosive in the passing game. They tried to explosive a. I'm sorry address it in a much. Bigger way at quarterback with the swing for matt stafford. Maybe a few others in. I'm intrigued by ryan fitzpatrick. Think you are too. I think that it can't get any worse than it was last year at quarterback and if it's much better this is going to. You know. this has a chance to be a pretty good football team. Yeah i know i. Sometimes i'm like hey or are we just so beaten down by bad quarterback. Play that we build other up just because they're not those who have been here previously. But i think what fitzpatrick like i said. He certainly statistically has been a lot better than people get credit for it. Just if you get away from the numbers like just watched the guy. He brings something to the table that washington does it have at that or has it had at that is what throws aggressively downfield. Someone who is capable of inciting the big play someone who had a lot of success taking receivers games to different levels. Like if you look at devante parker with the dolphin what parker did prior to fitzpatrick's arrival versus. What parker did the last two seasons with patrick there. It's almost like two different players. This guy really does impact passing game it effective ways in other excited to see what that could mean for washington. Yeah he's a distributor to you. Know and i think they've got you know in in re-signing logan or extending logan thomas I think they recognize that. Beyond this year they might have a guy who's a really good distributor of the football in the in the games last year With the dolphins you look at some of those games. There were nine and ten receivers catching balls when fitzpatrick was playing and they were playing. You know relatively well offensively early on and the tight ends a big target for him but he does a great job as a distributor. I think a lot of people recognize or think of fitzpatrick is a gunslinger and guy. That'll take chances and because of it will end up. Having a few bad plays in sometimes costly plays but he's a phenomenal distributor of the football. You know everybody You know everybody's in play as an eligible receiver when he when he quarterbacks i. I think that that's That's going to be huge to And they've added some weapons Next question for all the on the football team. And by the way. I'm i i wanna talk to all the about with the nats will do all these also part of the nats chat podcast with mark zuckerman and tim show very so we'll get to that Give me the player who will prove to be the most valuable off season acquisition. We've talked about fitzpatrick but there are others to consider you know the the playmakers that you mentioned in referred to that they've added. They've added a big piece. Defensively may be too big a big pieces defensively. They've they've added multiple pieces to their offensive line. I'm not asking who's going to be the most productive. But i'm asking who will be the most valuable ultimately when the seasons over of the offseason acquisitions so i would have to say fitzpatrick because of the position he plays i. I don't know if that's of an answer. Because we just talked about him. But i don't know nothing matters like quarterback matters and so if he can play the position at it appreciably better level than what washington had last year. I think that makes a ton of difference. And so i'm really looking for that assuming fitzpatrick's that guy starts the ball of the season. But another name i would throw at. You would be williams. Actually the third. I think you kind of lose sight of that dining. You could argue that. That was the number one of the off season from a standpoint of hey they specked decent money on the guy he still who plays a really key position on defense and i. It's a position like there's a real debate now in football circles of quarterback batter the most on defense for the nets rushers because it is such a passing league and that you have a guy now and williams acsi the third who can play man coverage in a way that others have not been able to like. We lost his pass. Defense ultimately be good last year. Because a lot of the quarterbacks were very good but also be washington went with a lot of that zone coverage which is fine. Nothing wrong with that at work. Well ronald darby did very well in that regard. But you have williams. Actually the third who i think brings more to the table in terms of skills that he's somebody who was played at a very high level. You know i. I don't know that he he he like jalen ramsey like a top-five corner no but the a top state fifteen corner the nfl. Yeah i think that is. I think he'll allow jack del rio to do some things differently. Schematic other back end. And i think we're jackson could end meaning for washington this year especially like to you. Think about a corner who can shadow opposing team receivers..

"Ag use my promo code kevin mattress deposit halfway up to a thousand bucks all of the ufc to sixty five next week my book. He's got all of that action. They've got all the olympic action plenty of. Nfl prop stuff you can get to it by going to mybookie dot ag and using my promo code kevin dc. Al goldie is going to be on the podcast today at least for the first segment. Maybe a second if he wants to stick around of course call these got a great podcast Which you can get on any podcast platform and you know. There's so much going on in the world of sports since even yesterday's podcast With simone biles in aaron rodgers. And you know all of the ron rivera stuff which we will get to. But i'm gonna just start with this simple question. Because training camp opened up yesterday what would be the one thing about the upcoming season. Goldie That you would be most disappointed with as it relates to this team. I would be disappointed if the quarterback play is appreciably. Better and i. I don't know if that's surprising or not. But the quarterback was so bad last year overall that to have to go through that again especially off having brought in a guy and ryan fitzpatrick who i believe over. The last season has been a lot better than people. Give him credit. Were i really am anticipating substantial upgrade in the play at that position not that it's going to be elite or anything like that but you know that washington washington was thirty second in the nfl and overall quarterback play last year. I really would like to think that team can be at least like middle of the pack this year. You know make a big leap in that regard. I i think that's the kind of thing that could lead to so other. Good things happening I think it will happen. And if it doesn't happen. I i am going to be disappointed. I if the offense especially the passing game isn't remarkably better this year I think that's going to be a real bummer. Last year And maybe we had the same conversation last year but last year. I remember saying. I'm going to be most disappointed if the defense isn't significantly improved now. They didn't have to improve that much to be significant significantly improved from two thousand nineteen but i expected a lot out of the defense last year. I thought it was gonna be much better coached. They had added chase young. The other talent was a year older And i'm going to stick with the same thing heading into this year. I think there was the i've said this many times. It was a significantly improve defense last year so i didn't end up Being disappointed didn't get disappointed on that particular front Now i'm upping the ante on the defense. I want it to significantly improve again. It was a good defense last year. it was in a very inconsistent. Run defense they've got to be much better against the one. That will be disappointing if they're not it means they didn't get better In the interior and at linebacker. I think the pieces. They've added defensively with william jackson. A we don't know much about james davis but you get the return of matt ionitsis and even landon collins but really what you get. Is you get a full off season of rivera del. Rio year to chase you on year. Three of montanez sweat All of these young defensive lineman you know getting a year older and being more comfortable in the system in year two. I'm gonna be really disappointed if the defense doesn't take another major leap in there. Some people out there goldie that would say well doesn't have to take that much of a big leap because it was really great last year. No it's got to take a bigger leap. Were expecting the expectation of this defense. Don't you think is for it to be dominant. And i think this next season we should see a jump towards dominant. I don't know if it will be the best defense in the most dominant defense. But it's got to be more dominant than it was last year. Well i think it certainly another level the defense can get to and we had that crystallized in the playoff law through the bucks. My concern though is that. I and i really wonder about this overall in the nfl. Right now i don't know that's dominant defense is possible anymore. I feel like the way the league is now so offense oriented so passing game oriented like if you look especially in recent seasons even though defenses that we qualify as the best defense is those defense is get got those defenses. Give stuff up and so you know that the days of life but through thousand ravens the otsu bucks even even like the twenty. Thirteen d hawks. I i don't know that. That's likely i don't want to say it's impossible because anything can happen but i feel like we have to recalibrate or measure of great events. It's kind of like to be in college. Football like alabama your stuff. Everybody and now alabama will give up thirty points. Alabama will give up. You know three hundred yard passing game not necessarily because alabama's defense is terrible but just that's the way offense is in college football and like it's becoming more and more like that in the nfl so with this year no doubt like there is another level of defense for washing thinking. Get to but. I'm kind of preparing myself for. They're going to be days where the defense gift stuff up. And you just have to kind of accept that i think in the nfl and twenty twenty one. Yea i don't put it on the same level of college football college football. It's almost in. What's actually interesting is there have been some really good defensive college football teams over the last couple of years and they can slow down. Some of these high profile offense is but if they don't have a really good offence to go with it. It doesn't matter. I i would say that. That is true in the nfl. Now you can have a dominant defense. But your dominant defense can't lead you solely to a title with mediocre subpar offense. You've got to have really good offence to go with it. I think there have been some really good defenses in recent years. But you know there's one that that you remind me of You know the jacksonville defense of a few years ago was truly dominant and yet it got to a playoff game. That one that one over pittsburgh but it gave up forty two points now saying that was turnover fueled and i think maybe even special teams of fuel. But i remember that jacksonville team from you know a few years ago. The two thousand seventeen season that was a dominant defense. And they got to the postseason. If you're calling a really boring Playoff game they beat buffalo. I think it was like thirteen to three. And then they played pittsburgh on the road and they won that game but they didn't win it the way. I think people thought they would win it. It was like forty five forty two shootout and then you know they actually had new england on the ropes in the afc title in foxboro the next week playing excellent defense as well but yeah. I think that the days of a ravens defense with trent dilfer. Winning a super bowl are over. You know or they're pretty close over. You gotta have offense to go with that jacksonville team. That year it had more than just blake bortles I mean i think four net was pretty good that year but they didn't have any receivers and they had blake bortles quarterback. They didn't need much more but they needed more to get by new england. Potentially when a super bowl i. I think that part's true. But with that said there is an extra level or two that the washington defense can.

You shouldn't tell the story for gabby. The in-person experience has been a lot more positive. Whatever you're doing here. He's like whatever magic. You're actually a witch. Keep it up from media. "DC significant savings there Let's finish up with some talk about the the Games from Saturday first of all. LSU Is a juggernaut. What a performance from Joe Borough I mean are you kidding? Me Seven touchdown passes in the first half for Joe Borough four hundred three yards and seven touchdowns and a half All sorts of records set by borough who really to me looks in has looked like the real deal. You know. He's a an off schedule. All machine he so good off schedule so good at creating more time And he's tough and he's competitive. I think he's going to be the number one. Pick in the draft. I think he'll get picked by Cincinnati. I think they'd be insane not to pick him It was a blowout win with one one controversial moment. It's hard to say that there's controversy in a game that ended sixty three to twenty eight but There was a A play with Lsu you Up Twenty one to seven and Oklahoma's on the move in Oklahoma got a chance now to sort of keep pace. You know you you gotta hang in there and if you if if you had Oklahoma plus the fourteen or whatever he ended a planet at. I didn't I didn't play that I played some in Game Action Oklahoma and lost that but If you thought that Oklahoma could get moving and have a chance there was a pass interference call on third down In that game where. The receiver was literally tackled by the defender. And it wasn't called. It would have been a first down. Oklahoma would have been on the move continued to be on the move. And who knows you. You know twenty one fourteen there. Maybe it's a different game. Ultimately it was forty nine to fourteen at halftime sixty three to twenty eight. So certainly wasn't GonNa make a difference in the the actual outcome in the game. It may have made a difference in the score Man Oklahoma in the big twelve. I mean it's just it's like college. Football is the SEC SEC. Clemson and Ohio State. You know I still think teams like Florida state in southern cal and Other SEC teams teams. That haven't really been in the playoffs. Like you could see resurgence there. I don't know about the big twelve man. They just for whatever reason you got you. You know a the best. You're going to get from Oklahoma and it's not even close and you know what Ohio state would have done. The same thing to them. Clemson would have done the same thing to me we. We didn't matter her about the match up. Then we get to The nightcap on Saturday night Clemson and Ohio state in the Fiesta Bowl in the other semi-final what a great football football game. It's a game that had it all had great plays. It had great players. It had a legendary drive at the end by Trevor led by Trevor Lawrence. It had bad calls calls. It had questionable calls it had head-scratching replay reviews all of which ended up being game. Impacting game influence in influencing The difference though in the game from my mind's eye from the jump and if you were on Ohio state and I gave out his smell test pick and you were rooting for Ohio State to win that game name. You knew early on that. They were not taking advantage of the dominance that they had in the first quarter and a half of that game. They dominated Clemson Timpson. I think ultimately they just appeared to be the better team for much of the night but the opportunity to bury clemson early. was there it. It was absolutely there. They had five trips inside the red zone in the first half against Clemson and kicked three field goals. JK Dobbins running back dropped two touchdown passes right so you had five trips into the red zone. Sixteen points not good enough not good enough. They blew an opportunity to be up. No less than twenty four to nothing somewhere around there and at twenty four to nothing had they converted verdict had Dobbins not dropped the touchdown passes. That's pretty hard for Clemson to overcome and Clemson's championship. Grit was on display all night long especially especially towards the end of the first half where you know they got a huge huge break down. Sixteen nothing on a third-down Miss There was a targeting. Call on Wade Sean Wade There D be who hit Trevor Lawrence helmet-to-helmet they call targeting. After the incompletion walked off fifteen yards and with that wade was out of the game and Clemson was on their way to a touchdown that made the game. Sixteen to seven. If you're watching that game in context you know how big of a call that is because if they're off the field there again then Clemson with about four minutes. It's three minutes to go in the first half likely not gonNA score before the end of the half Certainly not going to score twice. which is what ended up happening And and going to the break sixteen fourteen and a gain that they were dominated in look the the targeting rule in college football I think it needs work. Ah Sean Wade was it. Technically targeting a foul because it was helmet to helmet. Yes but Trevor Lawrence is a six foot. Five inch quarterback is ducking his head. Ah Helmet simultaneously. Should this dude had been tossed for that. No you've got to at least fix it in college football whereby when when we don't see something truly agree GIS and almost accidental. which that was you? Don't toss the player who's a big loss. They attacked his replacement placement on the next play. Got A big. Pi Call Deep Into Ohio state territory and from there got on the board was sixteen to fourteen. It was a hell of a game. There was a lot to it. You know that Ohio state adjust fields had two interceptions in the game. A couple of bad ones they had a roughing the punter penalty That extended in a clemson drive in that second half and it was interesting about that. Roughing the punter was a terrible terrible mistake bio is state. But the truth is I the Guy I just didn't lay out for the punt. If he had reached his arms out and really leaped in in went after it. I think he would a blocked it. It was very close is to being a blocked punt in that in that in that spot And then you had The Jeff Okuda play unjust and Ross. You know he hits. Ross Ross has the balls taking multiple steps Okuda strips him bog. It's picked up a return for touchdown and and they overturned the call and say that it was an incomplete pass. I don't know what completing the process of the catches anymore. After that one it appeared to me that the guy took three steps. It's certainly appeared to me that it was very debatable. On the call. You know it was a debatable. Call the call. On the field was touchdown fumble touchdown down the fact that they overturned it. I really thought was was was was bad The Explanation by the referee in the booth was essentially that they only look at those plays in real time replaced speed and its feet you know being in bounds or balls hitting the ground that they slow it down on replay and everybody you know on twitter. got a reaction to that. When it's like wait a minute so you're going to replay but you're not going to use the Slo Mo replay? You're just GONNA show it in fast motion like the call on. The field was seen in fast motion. If you'RE NOT GONNA use replay to slow it down to see what's the point of it. It was it was an utter crazy Explanation but he ended up getting a right 'cause they overturned or they the referee in the booth. Got It right on the broadcast. Got It right while both Chris Valor Valor and Kurt herbstreet were insisting that they thought there wasn't enough there to overturn it and they thought they had seen football moves multiple steps with the ball ball in possession before it was stripped and return for score. That was a rather big play In the football game Ultimately though Ohio state really he has nobody to blame but themselves they had a chance early to blow out Clemson to blow them out of the building and they didn't take advantage of it and Clemson that final drive down twenty three to twenty one in Ohio statement. I my personal belief with eleven minutes to go when they scored twenty two twenty one. I think they should've go to their they didn't And many of you some of you pointed al You know they were going for a touchdown there to win the game at the end. It could have been to tie it you know. Well Yeah but more importantly clemson could have been position to potentially kick a walk off field goal. You know at the end of a game you gotta you gotTa think in terms of how many possessions are there really left in the game and after Ohio State decided not to go for two. They only had two possessions. Left in the game had a chance on a fourth and four. You're at the CLEMSON thirty nine with three minutes to go to go for it and win the game right there. They punted it back. And then Trevor Lawrence man what a dry four plays ninety ninety four yards. That dude is the number one. Pick in the twenty twenty one draft He really showed the kind of champion he is. I I love Travis Etienne also think he's a hell of a back and It was a great game with great players on the field but a classic with Clemson yes and holding on twenty nine twenty three justin fields throwing that interception on that final drive into the end zone on the miscommunication with Chris. Alavi So now you get Clemson. LSU LSU now up to a six point favorite in the national championship game opened. I saw three and a half four. Some tell me a couple people told they Did Not see three and a half four that they saw an open at four and a half five. I thought I saw an open at three. And a half four. It's up to five and a half six now. LSU favored by And clemson you know Dabo swinney man lol Clemson as he likes to make him out to be Is in the national championship chip game again and he can play the no respect. You know card because they're an underdog again to Lsu and they're a good team. Amen Lsu Clemson and Ohio State all three exceptional football teams this year. looking forward to that national championship game lastly before I go The Maryland Basketball one yesterday they beat Bryant For you TERP fans out there. They the two twins McCain McKell Mitchell are transferring they Put their names into the transfer portal lot of controversy around this the mothers. There's tweeted out stuff. That's anti margin. I can only tell you this that I had been hearing for a while. That there was some disruptive Issues going on with the team that there was. You know some chemistry issues with the team. I think both of our talented I certainly think The higher rated of the two Number Twenty One Could feet good hands. Good talent looks to me like he's going to be a good player They went to four high schools in four years. Something like that Sometimes you know you've got to make a tough call and you know I as Maryland Fan. I'M NOT QUESTIONING The coaching staff on this one at all at all. I don't know the details. I've heard the details from one side. Okay so To me there's always you know his side his side and then the truth somewhere in between but I my sense of it was is that there was definitely some Issues among On that team team and that they feel like they may have gotten a better chemistry situation Now that the twins are gone. Wish him the best of luck I think they're talented And I I hope they figured out elsewhere Maryland meantime debut troll Marielle the seven to guy who was out with. You know Nia shoes news and and leg issues and I'll tell you what at seven two yesterday. In his first action to me he played confidently Ended up playing in the game Fourteen minutes had six points five rebounds. A block shot He's definitely an impact. Player is a rim for rim-protector with his length than size on the thing that I liked about him. I didn't know much about him. I I heard you know it was going to be more likely than not. The guy wouldn't be a significant contributor this year because of the injuries and getting to it much later than than everybody else but what I saw there was a guy that looked healthy and looked confident and looks like he. It could be an impact player for them. The rest of the year The schedule now turns to the big ten. They get Indiana who lost Arkansas. Yesterday to get Indiana at home on Saturday and then they play Ohio state who lost their second game of the year yesterday to West Virginia Okay that's it no. Oh as I'm sitting here finishing up the podcast for the day there is no other updated redskins news that I'm seeing It looks like it's going to be Ron Rivera and again I'm not unhappy about that. At all. Always liked him as a head coach..
