What do you think columbus was thinking. What you what was your reaction to the way that that came out and also particularly the article that came out A couple of days ago about the nudity was shot two in sports executive teams particularly in the lesson the learn from the mistakes of the teams in recent memory of how you go about doing something like this season but one and two without real input from your from your vantage just astounding oh and you oaks groups sort of targeted audience. "Kathy rivera is the city clerk for the small farming town about meena kansas. She took the job after she retired. Her duties include collecting utility bills and depositing them in the local bank but last fall. The town's only bank failed for two days. Nobody knew what would happen. It was uncomfortable. Feeling think we would have had to do business in a different town because it's just too convenient to have them right there. Rivera says thankfully another larger corporate bank took over the branch and reopened. She says she could learn how to do her job with an online banking account. But it would have been a challenge. I'm certain with some education and some setting up of certain things putting them in place. We could probably deposit checks somehow through mobile device or something but it would be kind of inconvenient plus. She likes seeing her local tellers. Villanova's michael ghana says. Most consumers can bank on their local bank. Not closing having a physical location acts like a big billboard and people still want a personal touch when it comes to big money decisions and as long as there's the opportunity to open a branch and steal market share from your competitor. I think they'll always be there reporting for world. I'm sarah schweinfurt.

Did Washington Do Enough to Push Dallas in the NFC?
"Did washington football teams teamers and the giants do enough to push dallas in the nfc. So i left philly out. I don't yeah. I just don't i am found anyone who really thinks they're going to be competitive. I mean let's wait and see got jalen whatever. But that's a team that they're not really fun to talk about. Because their free agency considered like stripping you know but i mean they did sign at harris for like nothing which is probably better sightings but what you have in jalen also you serianni. Yes hundred percent but washington in york both very active and did interesting. Things i think are worth discussing because dallas after the dak prescott deal was finally done. They've kind of made a few moves around the margins adding kia neil. Getting tied as kind of swing. Tackle still have question marks at adra sure and coroner but washington like i think they might have had my favorite free agency or at least the one that i'm most excited to see. I don't know payoff on the field. So just to recap. They signed the aforementioned ryan fitzpatrick one year. Ten million dollars. They tag branch eff. Who's there Pro bowler guard. They signed william jackson from the bengals. Cornerback three years. Forty two million dollars and then added panthers wide receiver. Curtis samuel for three years thirty four point five million dollars so just starting like let's start here. Do you agree with me like do you. Do you like what they did. And do you think it makes them an actual competitor in the division. A really like what. Washington did You know. I think among the guys among the quarterback that they could get because not only were they never in it for russell wilson or or wherever really going to be competitive for shawn watson You had to start looking okay. We'll what's realistic. And it's the ryan fitzpatrick coming off his best his career. It's an andy dalton and whereas that really gonna lead you I think that there was a lot of interest in marcus. Mariota he still is not able to sign with another team because the raiders are still holding him hostage But so. I like the quarterback. Move because you're essentially saying let's build up the team the and let's have the strongest team possible around the quarterback position where we don't sell out just because we have to for that position free agency. Maybe they make a move at the draft for a guy that they have their eye on. Or maybe they just say let's. Let's keep the boat floating this year and let's make our move Next free agency. So i thought that they probably overpaid by million or two on curtis samuel. But they wanted him And and ron rivera really likes them. Obviously william jackson an incredible deal You look around and you need another pass rusher and they can they can probably keep ryan kerrigan as a third down specialist if he comes down off his number end so you know he's he's still doing that. He's gonna get paid a whole lot of money. I'm not sure that that money is really out there especially at this point in free agency so they didn't want to mortgage their future for for quarterback right. Now they wanted to keep the boat afloat. I that and so. I like what they have done. Specially on evens. Then when you consider the the sort of offense and the pre-snap that they can have with all those offensive playmakers. Now that curtis annuals there with terry corn. I really like with done.
NFL sets salary cap at $182.5 million, down 8% from 2020
"The nfl just a few hours ago. Set the salary cap number for the upcoming season. It'll be one hundred and eighty two and a half million dollars. Obviously down from where it was at one ninety eight All pandemic related. Keep in mind that no team will actually have a one hundred and eighty two point. Five million dollar cap number because they're cap carryovers With with various earned and under earned incentives from the year before So there's an adjusted cap number. Washington's number ultimately according to multiple spots is essentially after the sheriff. Deal heading into free agency. In with the alex smith reduction Or cap savings is going to be thirty. Eight point nine million dollars in cap space. That's number six that sixth in the league available cap space.

Fox News Washington coach Ron Rivera speaking today for the first time since the team cut quarterback Alex Smith, and I don't disagree with a lot of things that, he said. I really don't Rivera admits he didn't want to give Smith a chance to come back last year from his gruesome leg injury. As Smith alleged in a GQ interview last month. It was always in the back of my head. What if he gets hurt again if he hurts that leg at that specific leg again? Washington Football Team Wide Receiver Terry McLaurin On The Jim Rome Show
"We're joined right now by a receiver for the Washington football team. He has put up huge numbers already 87 receptions over 1100 yards receiving. He had four touchdowns last season in the post season, six more receptions 75 yards. He was a member of the All rookie team in 2019. He was Theseventies sixth pick overall in 2019 out of Ohio State. Washington was the NFC Eastern Division champs last season. Terry McLaurin is my guest, Harry. It's great to have you on. How are you? Hey, are you doing to meet you and then have me on your show, Terry. It's great to meet you. It's great to have you on the show. Thanks for doing this. Let's not would say to you and ask you what you've gotten up to so far in the off season, but I know one of the things Is you get on the golf course because I see it on Twitter. How are you hitting him right now? And when did you start playing golf for the first time? Uh, well, I've actually kind of just kind of start getting into golf. I've been a kind of a golf fan. You know, I've watched certain tournament over the course of my life and, um, you know, I found that golf is is another way of kind of unwind from playing football and relaxing and but also staying active, and some of that challenges you physically and mentally and I'm always looking for some way I could get better challenge myself. So, um What better way to find that out, then goal. You know as people that she is, my golf swing is not the best right now. But it's all about improvements. So I think I made a big jump in just a week, and I'm excited to see Where my game takes me next. Terry McLaurin joining us That's exactly the kind response I would expect from you knowing your process than where you go about your business. Now, if you and I were to go back to 2019 is a rookie. You had more than 900 receiving yards. Then you come right back in 2020, and you have more than 1100 receiving yards and you go to the post season when you and I know you're looking forward, But when you look back on 2020 and the season what sticks out to you the most I think just the challenges of the season. Um Just first and foremost, from the pandemic standpoint of, you know, being able to play a full season and then you know the ups and downs that we had, Um, you know, as a as a as a football team, you know, we start off slow, but we started getting our stride and We started getting a moment. Um and then you know, he started to notice that people are starting to respect the Washington football team or and, um you know, we go out there each and every day. The O worked hard for each other and try to win football games at the end of the day and You know, we're not just satisfied into the playoffs are next step is getting there and and winning. But, um, you know, we did something that should that would. This franchise has done in a little while and I feel like it gave us a little bit more men. I'm so the The number one thing that I kind of look back on this season is just ups and downs, but the growth that we made a team and myself individually in my second year, Terry McLaurin joining us, You know you mentioned the postseason. You suffer that high ankle sprain late the year and you went hard like you fought hard to get back on the field. How determined were you to get back in time for the postseason? And how critical was it to you to rejoin the fight with your teammates? Yeah, that was everything to me. Um, you know, not many people know I was dealing with two high ankle sprain at the time when my left and my right, But, um, you know, I didn't really use that as an excuse. I have plenty examples around my building's not use. Certain things or, you know, elements of the things you were going through as an excuse. And just try to put your best foot forward for the team with Coach Rivera battling cancer. I was coming back from his triumphant story s. Oh, there's plenty example so I could look to the Get added motivation and just seeing my teammates face when I'm on that football field, and, um, you know, being a captain, that young leader of the confidence that gives them when I'm on the football field. I wanted to continue that and not being out there with him when I was when I wasn't it hurt. You know what I mean? But at the end of day, um, injuries are part of the game. You just try toe, manage them and try to prevent them as much as you can. But You know, the whole time? I was in good hands with our training staff. And my only thought was just to get back and produce even if it was just to take a little pressure off our other skill players that get you know them Some cleaner looks. I was willing to do
Tiger Woods "awake" and "responsive" after surgery for injuries from crash
"After suffering serious orthopedic and leg injuries in a single car rollover crash in L. A. Technically it was an SUV. But I spoke with Dr Michael Weaver, chief of orthopedic trauma at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, who says they did emergency surgery on his muscle tissue. As well. The reports were that they had to release the fashion or the tissue covering the muscles of his leg. Oftentimes in a high energy injury, there could be swelling. And if the pressure inside the muscle builds up too much can A risk the blood supply to his leg and foot and so often in that situation, that tissue is released to release the pressure and that allow the blood to flow that suggest to you that he was in danger of losing his leg. I'm not sure that he was in danger of losing his leg, but I think it is an indication that this was a very severe injury. Human women's doctor Michael Weaver. Thank you for your time. Has the Internet Permanently Changed How We Speak?
"We'll come back to wild wild tech a show about the strange frankenstein's monster of technology and culture shambling through our lives. I'm josh rivera. And i'm doing erika weber. I am the frankenstein and joshua is the monster. Let me paint you a picture jordan. It's the early nineteen eighty s. we're in calgary alberta. It's cold because this is calgary and a man named wayne pearson. Is typing three letters online for the first time l. I think you're familiar with this. Wouldn't rate yes. It clearly means lots of love joshua. It's like it's laugh out loud right. Yeah i mean this one's everywhere right with a few exceptions like you just said like everyone gets it. It's an example of what we might call like. Internet speak which can be a phrase acronym or a word that was either born or popularized on the internet. Do you have any favorites. A oh laughing my ass off or ass for you over there what else. I never really liked raffle because it sounded too fluffy. Yeah funny funny thing about raffle ruffles. Actually fallen out of popularity. No one really use it anymore. Probably because they feel the same way you do so your your taste maker good. Everyone should listen to me more. I have a friend who just types wrecked r. e. t. all caps when someone gets there s handed to them but like only in a very minor inconsequential way. It feels a little stupid talking about this stuff right. But i also think it's fun i mean we're both riders and language is kind of easy to take for granted. It just sort of like works and you don't really appreciate for the thousands of miracles that it takes to make it work so talking to a link and we've got to here today just reminds you of how much magic there is and how we speak to one another. There are very obvious differences in the way we speak and like sometimes it's fun. Pack that but before we go any further we should because this is an english language podcast or naturally going to discuss english and because language is also culture. It's worth noting. A big part of how. The internet influence language comes from cultures borrowing from one another sometimes in ways that are not particularly great or well-considered. We're mostly focusing on the tech angle. Here as the cultural one is enough to fuel an entire podcast. Yeah much as. I would like to pitch that podcast. Personally you'd be better off going to listen to the allusion est within a by helen saltzman. She talks about this kind of thing. All the time and you know talks about the conflict between loving the english language and also knowing that it has committed atrocities so today. I'm going to introduce you to two of my favorite interviews so far. The first is someone who has around fifty years of experience in linguistics and comes from your side of the jordan. Well i'm david crystal academically. I'm honorary professor of linguistics at the university of banja. Here in north wales. Also really. I spend most of my time at home especially lockdown writing books about language in linguistics and the english language gender close aspects of the internet to. He's here to give us an understanding of how the internet has impacted our language and the ways. It has actually happened before but first he starts with something. That's a little bit surprising. For all the words we don't know and rapidly growing lexicon. The internet's impact on the english. Language is actually quite small. Not because there isn't a lot of change but because the english language is so vast. Let's just stay with english for the moment over the past twenty years. I'm sure the internet has added several thousand new words and phrases to the english language. But heck the english language has over a million words each many more than that nobody knows. How many so an extra few thousand isn't a big deal. As far as vocabulary is concerned and then grandma. Oh well as far as i can tell the grammatical constructions. We will using back in one thousand nine hundred ninety just before the win. Came in exactly the same as the grammatical constructions. You and i are using right now. According to professor crystal this has had a side effect. I'm sure you've seen before. Those who treat changes in the language as a sign of cultural decay. So i went to see a show by susie. Dent she does dictionary kona on a countdown. I don't know if any of this is meaningful to you countdown. british television program with word challenges and number challenges and she does the dictionary corner anyway. She did this show about language and she talked about how people are often very concerned about it. Changing her thing was the word. Mischievous people often pronounces mischievous because they think it rhymes with devious. But it's actually mischievous more people probably say mischievous that. It will probably just change the word that kind of thing. Yeah and this is one of the things that professor crystal talked about length. The languages nature change. It's not inherently good or bad. it's just change.
Portrait Of: Gabby Rivera
"On a monday afternoon. Writer gabby is visiting her local comic bookstore. It's a place in downtown oakland. that's called cape and cowl. Remember have come in for like adventure comics and stuff. She wrote twelve comic books about america's adventures as a spangler speaking college student who can also punch through dimensions of time and space miss america. That's my girl. It was important to me. I appreciate that despite her happiness at chatting with a fan gabby hasn't always found community in the comic book world as sometimes on online space says it can be like or you're not telling the story writer. You shouldn't tell the story for gabby. The in-person experience has been a lot more positive. Whatever you're doing here. He's like whatever magic. You're actually a witch. Keep it up from media. It's let usa madonna wholesome and today a portrait of writer gabby playback before gabby libra got into writing comic books. She wrote juliet takes a breath. Marvel comics has recently been making an effort to introduce more women where people of color and lgbtq heroes in their comics. Some people were angry with these changes shortly. After gabby began writing for america chavez. She started getting threads and being harassed. This was a tough time for gabby. "rivera" Discussed on The Kevin Sheehan Show
"Can access the website that has the board of directors of the football team, those owners would not be on it. Twice, Shar and and and Fred Smith and. Robert Rothman the other Guy Bob Ross from So they would not be on the board of the football team. Any longer which we seem pretty unusual since they own a piece of the team. Well I mean. Every. Minority owner ends up as director in the company I mean. Yeah I, don't boy I only move forward. And there is an arbitration. There is an arbitration session going on with the NFL between the minority owners and Snyder. I don't know what state you know. It's interesting because this morning on radio I got caught up on all the things I missed last week not being on radio from obviously the Ron Rivera Story to Alex Smith being cleared from the PUP to Jason Right being hired to Thaddeus Moss getting cut when the whole fan base thought he was going to be a pro bowler this year you know it Cetera et Cetera and At the end of sort of catching up on everything that happened last week I just reminded everybody that there is still an ongoing investigation into the sexual harassment culture from Beth. Wilkinson by Belt Beth, Wilkinson and they're still you know minority owners that are trying to sell their stake and there's still a lawsuit You know claiming that that there was a smear campaign against Snyder and trying you know Snyder and his lawyers suing media company in India, and you know from that story, we understood that it could potentially be traced back to one of his minority owners. You know when I said earlier and maybe that's part of what the time stories about just the every year it's. Know, it's always something with this organization. They can't shake the ARA of not only dysfunction and but but so much more that goes on with this franchise and the biggest stories Illich Ron Rivera having cancers major story, and it's the most serious and the most important of all of them. But what's coming soon is Beth Wilkinson's investigation report the the resolution of this lawsuit alleging a smear campaign against Snyder and three. Minority owners trying to sell like we're going to start games in less than three weeks in those three stories are GonNa take center stage at some point during one of these weeks in season you know unless Wilkinson can somehow get a report out on a Friday night you know going into Labor Day weekend that might be the move for them if she finishes it up by then that would be a pretty quick investigation wouldn't it? Be and I would think so yeah. So thera fifteen closely. Women. According to this, you know you have to get. We still don't know if the team has allowed them to get out of their nondisclosure agreements in order to cooperate with the investigation I would assume that they would since the team is hired the investigator in the first place but you never know with this organization what's interesting? They have a chart of a WHO's who in the Snyder chronicles that are going on. Right now, and it has you know the minority owners as Christopher Clemente his son-in-law. So I saw Mary Allen Blair has Alex Santos and Richard Man Through Sal Larry Michael has the owners of the media company in India and it has a name I had never seen before and his name is mentioned in the story at have to find the details of exactly how they're mentioned. You ever hear norm shy right. G. H.. I. R. T. E.? He's an adviser Snyder who had less. And now has recently returned to working with Snyder that's a new name to make. I'd never heard it before. Yeah. I've never heard that name either. Unless. He's part of a unless he's part of that new PR company that they have in DC, I know that one of the guys there and his name's escaping me but I don't think that's the name. really has some influence right now I, don't know. I you all all of this is ongoing, and then we may put a guy out there with drop foot to play quarterback in the opener. Hey He's. been read so much blood. Said let me read this from my guy at the Washington Times. Matt Perez. Alex Smith continues to display the movement needed for playing quarterback. On,.

"Right I think it was a lot of movement in that direction because of the cost of living if nothing else. Yeah it was it. I remember it was strange sort of showing up in Vegas. Now, I would typically try to schedule whatever meetings I had for very late in the week. So I could vary conveniently stay for the weekend and Vegas but I remember being sort of on the outskirts of Vegas and you know it was It's it's actually You know I I don't know what it is. Now I know that quality of life cost a living very affordable. You know the whole thing you know I was starting to look for houses out here before everything. And then looking at basically the same houses here out there is like three hundred, thousand dollars cheaper, right so you had all you had all of that as an issue you know all of those favorable conditions out there and it you know we all know what what DC is like DC's incredibly expensive to live in. But we wish we wish you the best Aaron came into his headphones before he leaves Aaron will still be involved in the show and producing the show but more like what we've been doing during the pandemic not necessarily involved in the show but leaving. And during football yeah, we can. We can do some gambling segments for sure during football season but we wish you the best of luck. Hopefully, you get a chance to meet Musburger Kaz Scott says he's the greatest of all time I'm sure I'll meet him pretty quickly out there. All right. Aaron thanks best of luck. Absolutely. Can't be luck. Aaron. Thank you. Both can't wait to get out there and yell definitely still be part of the show. So all you people out there keep tweeting me exactly. All right. You know what? Tommy. We did our show on Thursday and shortly thereafter the news about Ron Rivera came down. That he has cancer, we've got a lot of things to get to the show today including you know todd rear getting fired We've got I I WANNA, talk about the NBA playoffs from yesterday in particular but Ron I mean It's really at this point. You know you just wonder what's next like it's amazing with this organization goes through year in and year out like all the news bad news sad news embarrassing news. It's just never ending with this group. I'm so happy the prognosis is good I'm praying for him. He seems like such a decent person. He's taken on a huge job and unusual job with this organization but you know I've mentioned to you. I think he's one of the first. You know decent people they've had in the organization in a long time and I think he's the most important person in the organization right now I mentioned that when we were talking about Jason. Right last week you know this, the what matters most is winning on the field and Ron Rivera? Dan gives them a chance to do it is going to be the Guy but man, we need them if you're a fan of this team, you want him to be healthy. You're not a fan of, but but as You need him in this organization, healthy. Yeah. That's the priority above everything else is his health and safety in a situation like this. So that's that should be everybody's primary thought the New, York Times has a big story today. About The Washington football team basically along those lines it opens up with a quote from Malcolm mccambridge.

"New era of the culture change Ron Rivera well. Again I don't I you know I don't have a problem with him. You know speaking his truth or what he believes, in I, just think in his particular situation new place toxic situation to begin with unbelievable climate that we're in right now as a country as a world that you know if he really was dialed in on football that he just lay low in. Save all this for another time. The only the only thing on on his radar. Should be. What's what's the best thing for the football to right? It's not this. I mean you don't think that if things don't go well that at some point, somebody in that locker room isn't gonNA. Say Well. He's a trump supporter. He's a racist. By the way is the default for a lot of people when when the when discussing people who either supported trump in sixteen or going to support him in two thousand twenty. You know in this guys made it very clear. What is politics are and they are going to be at odds with much of his locker room. I. Just don't know why you would do that. Why in a new place you know without these people, even knowing who you are and even having had one live conversation with you. If this is the first impression, you would want them to have of you. It just doesn't seem very smart again I'm not I'm not I. Don't have a problem with you, know he? His beliefs are him wanting to speak out on his beliefs I just don't think that the timing makes very much sense, but what do I know? That's just me What else? That's all I got off. So I got to. We're done for the day. I'll be back tomorrow I. Think I'll have a guest tomorrow. I'm not sure who it will be I've got a couple of possibilities Tommy will be back with me on Thursday. I have a good day..

"Past, but it makes me. Happy encouraged that I hear it from him as well. One winning season does not make a good franchise. 'cause the League is designed for every bad team in bad franchise and bat owner to have an occasional good season, the best franchises develop and sustain a winning culture over a long period of time, and that's always the goal, but it's never been attainable in the Dan Snyder era, and it may not this time I would bet did. It isn't even though I really like Ron Rivera and I'm really hopeful the other the last thought on this is you know we still don't know anything about when it comes to Rivera in. Washington, is anything about his contract? I haven't seen anything reported on his contract, have you? Not, really, no! Isn't that strange? Yet is it is strange. It's very unusual. I mean. I don't even think we I think. We know that it's a five year deal that he got. Anything about the money you know we've always suggested that. If you're going to take a job in Washington, you have to get some level of of contractual authority to run the football operation. You know to coach your team without interference, but we don't know anything about the money I mean I you know if we found out that it was a Jon Gruden kind of contract. We might feel differently about whether or not. It's for the money or not. But anyway, and we might now one last thing for me about you know coach Rivera and so far his reign as redskins coach. One of the first job. One of the first things he did. Was Hire Jack del Rio as defensive coordinator. How's that? Turn out so far? Well Lunatic defensive coordinator, the crazy man on social media that he's I didn't see this until you told me about it before the show I didn't see it this morning. Go ahead and tell everybody what you're referring to I, mean we know? Weeks ago. He's made his politics very clear on twitter. He's You know, and by the way the first. Amendment allowing you that even though it doesn't seem like it in days like We've had here over the last couple of months. But or people seem to be trying to quell first amendment free speech, but go ahead and tell everybody what he tweeted out last night or yesterday or whatever? Well, you had this Dr. that was posted on social media, some kind of Voodoo doctor. Who basically about the benefits of what's the drugs? Hydroxy chloroquine I trust the chlorine and I use it on hundreds of patience. You know as a cure for treatment and effective treatment for covert, and that's very disputed at this point so much disputed that twitter took the video down. Took it off off off of social media. And Jack. Del Rio tweeted if this video was taken down then shame on those seeking to make large profit rather than treat Americans. The doctor clearly explains the benefits of the drug and its use it on hundred over patients. Getting exposed and you know it. What is it defensive coordinator of the Washington Redskins do in this sport. But you didn't really whether he. Just. To her as a Voodoo doctor I mean this is some woman from Where does she practice whatever she practices? I read something briefly about her. Essentially be believing in alien DNA. Demon sperm, and other crazy You know I guess potions to make people better I don't know enough about her. I issues a doctor in Nigeria or was it. Somewhere else was a guy. Where was wasn't. Anyway, I don't look. That wears fire. The bigger issue here is that. You know when you are when you're new to a place. And you have a diverse group of people that will be reporting to you. and you're in a climate like the one that we're in right now and you're an adult I don't know why you're spending so much time on social media. I don't know why you're making your politics known on Social Media I. Don't know why you continue to get duped by fake tweets. UNSOCIAL median seemed to be completely unmoved by it. Let's I mean I'm not suggesting he can't multitask and that he doesn't have the right to express the way he believes I firmly believe in that I just don't think it's very bright. I mean if I understand he's he's A. He's a guy that's established. You know he's not up and comer that he has some stature in the League is a former head coach in a successful defensive coordinator in mind in this league I. Don't know you get to a new place. Especially, when that new places as toxic as this place and you're trying to change a culture and in just a few days you're going to have a lot of. Of Young players who have a lot of different beliefs in verily in a in a very much volatile time, politically I just don't know why you'd go down this path. Where's the game for you? Unless your goal here is not to be the best defensive coordinator and leader of a football team, but potentially to to have some sort of activist role in your life when you're done with football I, don't get it I. Don't think it's very bright. Is that a conversation at the head coach should have with his depend coordinator I thought there would be a conversation the last time you know, remember his politics lineup completely with the owners, and maybe a lineup completely with Ron Rivera's but Ron Rivera's PA. I don't know what his politics are. I would bet that he probably leans a little bit more conservatively but that's a total guess, but he's smart enough to understand what his constituency is. which is a bunch of young players who have a lot of different beliefs, although in in an NFL locker room, probably the majority are very much. Less, a liberal leaning I mean he talked about yesterday. He's not going to kneel during the national anthem. He's going to kneel during the coin. Toss because he really believes in the military, but he's totally supportive of players who will kneel during the national anthem and support of their First Amendment Rights which by the way Jack del Rio when he was a coach, in Oakland, did come around had. Had to be convinced of of it being something that he would go along with with his players kneeling during the national anthem I don't know I I thought when he made those stupid comments and got duped by the AFC tweet, and was liking tweets from Sukhbir conservatives, both black and white on twitter. I thought he might get a talking to then, but clearly he didn't. Or if he did. CARE. Not a good sorry for.

"Do, you know since then mayor Bowser has come out and you know. She softened her stance a couple of years ago on this topic, but now she's back saying they should probably change the name. The Washington. Post editorial board with an OP ED, saying they need to change the name and if Rivera's. Coach centered situation if he's the one who's going to go out there. Dan, Snyder, not going to address it publicly a statement or anything, or even if he does whoever standing in front of that Mike. Mix is going to get the question. The it's impossible to avoid and again. This is not a matter of what one thinks doesn't think about this topic you. It has to be at them. Look why the they haven't. They've. They must be one of the only teams of the main four professional sports that did not put out any type of statement official statement I believe about. about their reaction to to George fluid situation about police brutality about all these topics in part. Because when they attempted to make social media point, it got taken over by people saying well. Here's the way to help the issue. Change Your name, so they haven't done that. When Rivera spoke to us, he did make a statement about. Lloyd and police brutality, and all that and it was a poignant statement, and he said you know, believe with a lot of sincerity, but it's sort of underlying the point of. Why are you doing this? But look if he's a guy that he is presented as the the guy who. The face of this organization day to day. Dan side or won't talk. There is no team president. There is no general manager right now. Then he's going to have to get the question. There's no doubt it's coming this time whether it's me or ten other people. Somebody's asking this question next on. Yeah he'll probably. He'll probably point you back in the direction of Mr Schneider. That's probably what he'll do. thank you, Ben for doing this I. Always Enjoy this great conversation and. People should go subscribe to the athletic. You can do so right now for free. Follow Ben on twitter at Ben. Standing but Ben Rights really prolifically about the redskins. He writes as much as anybody. If not more than anybody there's always a new story that's redskins related, and this is the offseason, so imagine what he'll be writing about. And following and news breaking when we get back to hopefully NFL season. Thanks so much have a good weekend I'll talk to you soon. Percent minutes here, really appreciate pence, standing love catching up with Ben. He does such a great job covering the redskins on the athletic. All of the other local reporters do a great job as well to no brainer..

He's written a column eleven questions he will direct towards Ron Rivera or should be directed towards Ron Rivera when training camp begins bent standing, coming up in about five to ten minutes, and we'll talk not only about his column, but about a lot of other things including he wrote a column recently identifying the best free agent signing of the Dan Snyder era, and the worst free agent signing of the Dan Snyder era, so a lot with ben coming up here shortly some breaking. After the radio show this morning. in the world of Golf Danny. McCarthy, who I had on the radio show a couple of weeks ago. he's an up and comer on the PGA tour. I know his uncle very well. I know his father. Denny's a great guy. Georgetown Prep Guy Uva Guy. Denny's really made strides on the PGA tour. He tested positive for corona virus, and he had to withdraw from the travelers in Connecticut as far as his health. There's nothing here on the story about it, but denny's a young healthy guy, so we wish him the best. He's really a great guy, but now we've had several players withdraw from this tournament. Some like Brooks Koepka. And Graeme McDowell. in in Webb Simpson who weren't necessarily positive tests for the virus, but they had come in contact with guys at a tested positive in the case of guy in McDowell, their caddies both tested positive I think with Webb Simpson. It was a member of his family who had tested positive, but we wish Danny McCarthy. The best local really good young player, and we had a lot of fun with him on a long radio interview a few weeks back on before the tour had started a backup also some news from this morning after the radio show NBA players are getting tested. You know as they prepare for this. Restart to the season, which will be very interesting to see if they can get this done, but sixteen of three hundred two NBA players tested positive for corona virus. This is the first wave. They're calling it of mandatory testing done in preparation for the start of the season so out of three hundred two players. That's a five point. Three percent hit rate of positive tests league-wide. Any player who tests positive will remain in self-isolation until they're able to test negative after A. A period of time on the players names weren't disclosed. We know that some players like Malcolm Brogden and Jabari Parker and Alex Len have already publicly acknowledged that they recently tested positive the ski the season scheduled to resume a month from now or July thirtieth so a month in in five days to month and four days from now with twenty two teams converging on Orlando or land mandatory workouts are July first and then teams can start to arrive in Florida in preparation for the ending of the regular season in the postseason on July seventh, so we'll see how. How that plays out, this is what we've been seeing a lot of in recent days seeing a lot of athletes testing positive from golf to pro football, Zeke Elliot to College Football, the twenty three players at Clemson to the NBA players, many NBA players opting out, and before we get to Ben Standing. I wanted to start with this story. It's the Malcolm Jenkins Story and interview from CNN yesterday. Malcolm Jenkins very outspoken. Remembering the drew brees situation. He's a twelve year veteran. He's a member of the NFL Players Association. He of course had had really good years in Philadelphia in particular. Malcolm Jenkins spoke out yesterday about Corona virus, and let's keep in mind that this came a day after Zeke Elliot. who had tested positive was getting better. He was getting much better but Zeke Elliot said he's very concerned about football starting back up with families at home in kids at home. It wasn't even about him as he was on the men but he question whether or not it could be done in a healthy way and Malcolm Jenkins essentially, said the same thing yesterday to CNN or read you a few of the quotes. Jenkins said that football is essentially a non essential business. Here's the quote and I'll read all of them, but this is really the money quote. I think until we get to the point where we have protocols in place, and until we get to a place as a country where we feel safe doing it, we have to understand that football is a non essential business in so we don't need to do it, and so the risk has to be really eliminated before we before I would feel comfortable going back. That was Malcolm Jenkins, twelve year veteran player a big voice in the NFL he continued. He said in discussing what the NBA's doing with the hub city. He said the NBA is a lot different than the NFL because they can actually quarantine all of their players. or whoever is going to participate? We have over two thousand players, even more coaches and staff. We can't do that, so we'll end up being kind of on this trust system the honor system where we just have to hope that guys are social distancing and things like that in that puts all of us at risk, not only us as players, and who's in the building, but when you go home to your families, you know I have parents that I don't WanNa? See get sick. Closed quote, that's Malcolm Jenkins day after Zeke Elliot had similar thoughts. Tommy's been on the this thought from players now I think the the environment here has changed a little bit here over the last week with cove in nineteen infections on the rise again I think also as these players get closer to the beginning of the season They get a little bit more angst ridden over this..

"After what the Redskins had been through and you had a chance to hire Ron Rivera dictate terms to him under any conditions. You know once you get him in the building he works for you. It's Snyder has done this before. And again you have to be a lunatic. In the first four months of the guy on the job basically dictate terms them as Kennedy can't do that will. That will no no. He's not he's not a lunatic but we do. We also know how. Tv's Hi Dan Snyder side the last thing. I wanted to get to his The stuff about Trent Williams That I asked him I'll play out the whole thing including my follow up question But you'll but essentially started off by asking him why it was so hard to trade somebody of trends caliber Because it was really about value you know we. We had that we had set what we thought was the right type of value for who he is as a football player. So dynamic left tackle guy has got good years left And and some of the things we talked to knew that. But we weren't gonNA give him away yard sale. This is a guy that we felt. We deserved more for and we held out for the right deal We had a couple that fell through You know there. There was a little too much give. We felt on our part to to to move him because of his value as a quality football player. But again you know when when when it's time it's time to make that move we were gonNA hold on and make sure we got something worth it You know because again you just don't you don't give away 'cause that's just the way it is but you know no matter what. The situation and circumstances were how contentious they got. We were GONNA to stick true to what we believe and we we tried and we tried and we waited and waited and we were going to be patient. You know and and that much we did and it was time to pull the trigger and make the move and you know. Send him on his way We were able to do without the context. Though Ron what would he have been worth? I mean? This is a seven time pro bowler without all of the the the baggage in the year long confrontation and the all of the other stuff. What would he have been worth? Well I know this much. There was an opportunity for what I was told that that last year during during the just before the trade deadline He was working first round pick but for whatever reason the deal was never done and but because he didn't play for the year somehow that number change but again he's you know he's still that kind of player you know. He's he's he's he's he's still has that skill set and and he's a guy that's going to go. You know. Go to San Francisco and should play well for them but you know again. He's he's a guy that we from looking forward to the guys that we have on our squad a group of young guys that we believe that going to compete against each other and the best guy's GonNa play for us and that's just that simple. We're GONNA play the best players that help us win. So that last part where he said. There was an opportunity last year before the trade deadline where he heard that you know he was worth a first round pick and for whatever reason. The deal didn't get done that got a lot of play yesterday. That the the you know essentially people saying the Redskins were offered a first round pick that that's what Ron Rivera said. I personally don't think he said that wouldn't surprise me if he did mean that but I don't think he did that would be my lean And and I probably could've done a better job following up on it but we were at the very end we had to roll but anyway to make a long story short. Here's the bottom line for about the fifteenth time. The redskins never were interested. In Trading Trent Williams Bruce L. And first of all initially thought that. Trent would come back and then when he wasn't coming back it became very personal very petty And they weren't going to trade him they were not going to give in and it was the wrong thing to do for the future of the franchise and the fact that he wasn't ever he wasn't made available and they didn't actively try to move him meant that you really never for sure determined what his value was. Just do this simple math. He's Trent Williams a seven time pro bowler at thirty one years old. Okay the they would have gotten had. They actively tried to trade him. A first rounder or something approximating a first rounder. A second two seconds or a second this year and a fourth in a second next year or whatever they would have gotten that I'm convinced of it. Okay now. The report said a Cleveland that you know that that the browns were willing to give up a first before the trade deadline. I kind of believe those reports. Now if the redskins in good reporters like time and standing said that's not what they heard. I believe them that. That's not what they heard. It doesn't mean that that's not what they would have gotten two totally different things. I think Rivera understands that if this guy was made available and they had actively tried to trade him and told teams. Hey Trent Williams's available they would have gotten a first round pick or something close to that whether or not you know he was specifically saying. Hey I heard that. They turned down a first round. Pick before the trade deadline. I think what he was saying was I heard that they'd put them out there. They would have gotten a first round pick but for whatever reason they didn't do it It what they didn't do is they didn't make them available. They didn't make them available. You Know Eric Schafer. And Kyle Smith and Bruce Allin just so everybody understands this and Tommy I think you do. It was in their best interest to make people believe that they weren't turning down something like a first round pick. They didn't want people to think that and Bruce Allen wasn't turning anything down because he wasn't listening to anything did somebody call Eric Schafer. And say hey. We're interested in them. We'll give you a second afford to start off the conversation and Schaefer say Bruce dealing him you know and could Eric Schaeffer. Then say and I'm giving a hypothetical We never got offered a first. They never made them available period. But you guys all know as football fans Trent Williams was worth a first round pick. Okay Laremy Tunsil brock but brought back two first rounders second and two players so anyway. That's my thought on that and It it's IT got blown up into Ron Rivera. Really stuck it to Bruce Allin yesterday by admitting the Redskins could have had a first round pick before the trade deadline. I don't know that he admitted that. But I do think the redskins skins could have had a first-round pick before the trade deadline or earlier. Okay here's a hypothetical conversation. That should happen. But probably Ron Rivera to Dan Snyder. What the Hell is wrong with you? Why didn't you trade this guy when he was worth a first round pick? Why didn't you trade him? Don't you think at some point? A reasonable person would look the owner and say why didn't trade shrank Williams before now before we have to take a third and a fifth happy Thanksgiving. Yeah and what's the owner gotta say well wasn't they threw doubt that's what he's GonNa say you know and then you say don't what were you. Will you of your ship? The whole season last year on your little young. You know you weren't paying attention. You mean you worked for Bruce. I.

"Not encamp when you're not many camp when you're not as when you're not in training camp So I just say cautiously optimistic. So far so good. The relationship between the two And it and I quit come down to what Ron Rivera thinks. Leadership is and what's Wayne? Haskins thinks leadership is they may be two different things. Yeah but they're they're going to have to spend some time. I think the one thing to meet. Its that's clear is unless dwayne really really isn't the right guy in his mind's eye after spending some actual time with him in preparation for the season. Dwayne got twenty twenty to prove it. I I really do believe that. Now the next part of this Is where I asked I asked Ron Rivera about whether or not Dan Snyder. I'm trying to think exactly what my question was is essentially. I asked him when he and Dan started to talk about this job you know. What did he tell Dan about Dwayne and did he sense? It was important to him. Dan Snyder that Ron Rivera. You know thought highly of Dwayne Haskins. This is what he said. No what he told me was evaluate the roster and go from there. He is put nothing on me to to keep anybody pull you know. Bring people what he did was he. Put It on me to go out and evaluate and I had time and we didn't start till December so on on your head of ourselves When we were in December you know He and I talked and asked me. He asked me he evaluate the Ross. Tell me what you think and so broke down every player that I had a list That was on type. Broke those players down. I wrote up a report on every body and that was one of the things that he and I went through piece by piece. And we've talked about the players and the thing. I told him that I was really impressed. Was the way he handled the two the two times they need. The team had to score in the fourth quarter and drove around. The ticket drove now. Kick a field goal to win and in each one of those situations. He does something where he kept the play alive whether it was he moved in. The pocket found the receiver down field for the first down. The other time move in the pocket had to scramble. Go forward took a big shot dot up this is the first thing got back in the huddle and they came and went down scored kicked game. WanNa that's was again like I said one of the things that sold me on on giving this young man and opportunity to develop and that's what I told him again. There was nothing was pushed on me. That's one thing I want. Everybody understand it was. It was an opportunity for me to come in evaluate and decide so that was that was pretty clear. I mean Rivera. You know the one of the things I sense. Does he answered the question is he wanted everybody to know that he didn't have to commit to Duane to get the job basically you know. He made that very clear. Saying you know that Dan said You know come in evaluate the roster and go from there that that that to Duane was not pushed on him by Dan at all that it was an opportunity for him to come in evaluate and decide on his own I believe him with the way he said it in the way he said it. So sort of Definitively and emphatically I I I. I believe that I have no choice but to believe him. I mean he seems like believable Guy And I think what this does is validate the idea that Dan Snyder is not a lunatic. He's just devious. He has to be a lunatic..

"That but the guy who you say may have learned from the Archie Three Saga drafted player last year. That was that was that was friends with his son that went through with his and went to school. They weren't going to see they want they were. They were friends. Were NOT SAYING STUPID. Described as friends accurately. That doesn't mean they were best friends for years before acquaintances. That sure okay. They were acquaintances drafted a quarterback. That's coast and a lot of people in that building didn't want but the owner wants. I don't as a learning experience from the RT three sagging. I see that is the opposite. I you know I. I shouldn't have be up. Shouldn't have even brought it up. Oh you wanted to fight over time. Not My favorite guy. But I'm just saying the hammer. The Ron Rivera Ham put could bring some unintended consequences journal. Fair enough League you know what I'm GonNa Choose for now on April thirtieth twenty twenty with the possibility that we don't even get an NFL season on time to just believe that nothing bad's going to happen for the foreseeable future with the organization Real quickly Just wanted to mention that you can raise us in review us on all of the podcast platforms. And I haven't asked you to do that in a while but it would be helpful if you did it. You know in in the next week or so Rate US wherever you can regardless of where you're listening whether it's apple or Google play or stitcher tune in anywhere you've got. A to rate us. Obviously rate is the highest level police. And then if there's a place to write a quick review to tell tune in or whomever how much you liked the show. Those things really really help. That's what drives sort of the rankings. On I tunes they ranked podcasts. And we've been ranked many times in the past But it's not contingent on the number of people listening it's contingent on the ratings and reviews so a lot of you have already rated and reviewed the show in the past but if you could do it again and it allows you to do it again. That would really be helpful This is so much fun to do and we're never going to stop doing it. I say that confidently because eventually the world's going to be back to normal and we're going to have you know the revenue stream that we had before back but a lot of that rating and reviewing Really helps us so we appreciate you doing that all right. So Ron Rivera was on the radio show with me yesterday and I'm GonNa play a couple of the sound bytes for you and then Tommy and I will react a little bit The the first thing in l. sort of go in chronological order on how How we how the conversation went. I did ask him about sort of how it went with Kyle Smith and whether or not Kyle Smith has done enough to get a general manager title. Here's what he said I think so. He did a first job. You know going back. And looking at the last previous three drafts You know the thing that I found really good one. That really did you know did did Catch my attention and I think really help influence. My decision was that the young guys that have been drafting the last three years. Some of the personnel moves that were made in the last three years Really pointed to a group of young players Getting an opportunity started to develop you know. And that's probably the biggest thing 'cause 'cause you WanNa see first of all that you've had success in the draft because that really does impact your salary cap and when you can develop your own Kiecker on your head. So that's one thing I thought was a really huge positive was was The players that they had taken previously so I was pretty excited about this group and then again seen what we did see how he handled things watching him do. His thing was was was solid. I mean he's got a good group of guys at work with them. They really positive things so again. We'll sit down. We'll discuss everything but I really did like approaching. I liked the way he hands. But there's some discussion about him potentially getting a GM title are you ready to give him a GM title but not up to me you know. That's that's something that Mister Snyder's and I will talk about and You know he has ultimate say in in in the organization if it comes down to things like this you know. He's done a great job for us. I know we're very pleased. He's young guys. Developing growing has done a great job so going forward you know again as I said that'll be a thing that you know we'll sit down. We'll talk about. We'll discuss it again. He's he's he's he's A. He's a very talented young young person. Who's growing learning and then we'll see again. That's that's that's a little bit above me So that's what he said About Kyle Smith. The possibility that he could become the GM And that it's above his pay grade. Go ahead you react. I I will second Well you know. They haven't been that many general managers on under Snyder There's been too right technically. Then he's surrounded by Bennie. Was ever to General Mattis. Well I think he was actually but even if that wasn't his title he was the defacto. Gee I know that. But I don't think he had the actual title. I think he was vice president.

"I don't think he's I think he. I think he learned guys never called him Dan. I know I understand that. I understand that I'm telling you. I don't think that's going to happen again. First of all. I don't know that Dwayne is the same personality or presumptuous or as arrogant or self absorbed as rg three. Was You know? I don't believe that. Remember Dwayne Haskins had to compete for a job at Ohio state. You know he had to compete and win a job and beat out guys to become what he became last year. He didn't come in anointed. He came in with a coaching staff. That didn't like them didn't want him. It's been a different path for Jane. Rg Theory. I guess never ever presented with adversity from the time he was young until two thousand twelve was over. But this is a twenty. How old is twenty? Twenty one twenty two now isn't he? Okay he's a twenty two year old kid who considered himself a friend of the owner. How many other guys on that roster? They consider themselves friends of the owner. I don't know Tommy I I know what you're saying and it. It's ridiculous if you believe that it can't happen so I can see that point. I'm just hoping that it doesn't happen. If players like only bring only bring it up because of what ducks it. Yeah I mean if Ron Rivera is the hardest. Wayne has a shoulder to cry on. Sold her in the organization. We all know that the shoulder needs to turn away and say sorry. He's your coach. You do what he says. Period you got an issue family related issue or personal issue that I can help with. You need the plane. Whatever but as far as football goes that's the guy and hopefully he learned from that hopefully he learned because it was not the way he handled it in two thousand twelve and two thousand thirteen as we know. I I would feel confident. Embedding with you that that conversation will never happen. Which one was just brought up? That will never.

"He'll produce this thing when we get done with it and get it out of the all channels. I did not new show yesterday. Somebody said that's a great interview with Rivera. Didn't give you the right to take the podcast off. Actually you know many of you know this we you know we've taken a day here in their last week leading up to the draft. We didn't take any days off but Wednesday's usually the day where the least amount to talk about is going on and I just felt like I could've done the whole Rivera interview that I did on radio yesterday but I just thought I'd save it for Tommy Because I'd rather do it that way Incidents what we're GONNA do but Anyway you don't have to explain. I didn't I can. I can explain myself. I had a lot of people that tweeted me because basically what I did is. I put out a tweet. That said Noah pod today. But here's a link to the interview that I did with Ron Rivera on radio this morning listen to it and so whatever that gave them Rivera. Tommy spent thirty minutes with me so that gave him thirty minutes of content. If they hadn't heard it on the radio you know what you and I say this. All the time about the podcast. That by the time we get to the PODCASTS. Sometimes three or four things that have happened that that weren't available for me on my radio. Show that we can talk about but none of that happened yesterday so We just decided to take the day off yesterday. There you go By the way Were late getting started today because I was almost back to my studio after going to get some coffee real quickly and I get a text from my wife. Safeway's got paper towels and toilet paper and again like I've I've I've posed this question to you in the past. It's like my God. How life has changed. I had to drop what I was doing. You know fine my my mask walk into Safeway and load up on the two per customer minimum of toilet paper and paper towels because she had just gotten it. You know as well and we were running low again on those items and it's rare these days that you see that in supermarkets and the other thing Tommy is people who are ordering through peapod and other you know online grocery shopping Services and Amazon. A lot of times. They're getting their deliveries without paper products without toilet paper and paper towels. It's there it's still at a minimum still at a minimum right now. Well I don't envy you because it's only me and my wife and initially back in March we bought We bought a decent amount of paper products. We didn't hord it but we thought in the morning they normally would and Just the other day my wife goes out and does the grocery shopping once a week at a giant nearby and Just the other day for the first time they had those paper products available and we stocked up again Not Hoarded but stocked up so we have not really experienced that but in a house like you like you have with with your your sons and their girlfriends and I mean I just the supply. Demand must be so much. The pressure must be so much greater for supplies. I mean again. We've said this in the past I have it easy. You have it easy compared to those families. Younger families with young kids. Because you know I was talking to Talking to a friend of mine the other night well talk to Cooley. It's a constant alday challenged for him with their two little ones. In fact the other night we We we we facetime and you know. And his daughter's adorable and you know he's in there. They're in the midst of making homemade ice cream like that was the project for the day along with like an Apple Pie. Like you've got to keep them busy but a another friend of mine who's got kids who are in high school in Middle School. He said the biggest bullshit thing is this online from home because basically the parents have to be especially with the younger kids have to be somewhat involved in. You know making sure that they're getting exactly what they're supposed to be getting online. And and I said No. I'm like bullshit I mean. They're they're much more tech savvy than you are and he's like it's not really about that it's like you know they get done with a with a lesson or whatever and it's not exactly clear and they don't have anybody to ask in. We ended up getting involved in that. Let's see what Tommy that can you imagine? In addition to all that's going on if you gotta sit there and also be your kid's teacher like basically homeschooling no I can't I can't imagine it. Basically sounds like a fulltime job. I I mean one thing. It's it's you said envy. You should have a newfound respect for teachers at A. It's a lot of.

"Know we talk through things Baston for advice on certain things certain issues for the most part. He's letting us do our thing I'm he he's he sees he'll call in and just ask how things are going. What do you think Where are you guys now more than anything else? But like I said the conversation has been in touch almost every other day so It's been good. It really has You know he's he's not here to impose Willard than like that easier just to make sure we have the tools that gives us the opportunity to our jobs. I think everybody's going to react to this Answer in different ways and it really depends on what your perspective is most of you that. Hey Dan Snyder. And that's the majority of EU significant majority of you are thinking. Oh my God. Does he understand what this guy is in who this guy is in what he will do if you allow him to sort of be influential And then others that you know I think like me at this point and look I. I'm one of those the believe Dan. Snyder ruined my favorite Franchise okay. I believe that but I think that this is Ron Rivera. Basically playing it in a way that It was suggested to John kind if you remember John. Kim wrote this column in December and he referenced. Someone that he talked to that said the next coach just needs to know that Dan needs to be you know involved in in the know and you know and sometimes maybe even made to feel like. He's more involved than he really is. And I think Rivera's playing it that way right now Rivera to me right now has final. Say It is a coach centric system but Ron is playing it a little bit differently and for those of you that heard him say I think he did the laissez faire thing where he was hands off out of the way. Just remember Dan from two thousand. Two thousand nine was a different owner than Dan. When Bruce Scott here in two thousand ten in many ways Dan and we've talked about this over. The years has been much less involved in the day to day dancing. Been you know much Much less in the building over the last ten years and he was in the first ten years. He had his hands on everything in the first ten years. Not The last ten years it was Brucie. Really turned it over to Bruce he trusted and Bruce now he made a couple of big mistakes. The Rg three relationship really was damaging to the team in into the franchise and you know took a couple of years to get over that That was a big mistake by the owner In entitling enabling Rg Three through this relationship through this direct line right to the owner above coaches about players above above other front office executives. It was a terrible decision on his part You know getting involved last year in the draft was not great you know. He had people putting together draft board for a year and he came in and essentially said. We're taking the kid that went to high school with my son and so that wasn't good. He may turn out to be right on Haskins But that wasn't very good but for the most part over the year over the last decade it was Bruce's show was Mike Show and then it was bruce's show and I think personally Rivera's playing it in a way that you know others recently haven't you know look with J. J. Was basically go along to get along. He was Bruce's guy. He reported to Bruce. Dan turned the franchise over to Bruce. Until last year's draft. And you know Jay was sort of a lung x you know I mean you know. Jay would make comments but Jay Jay. I had a relationship with Dan but really it was bruce In in j Mike you know Mike Wasn't easy. He wasn't a big fan of Dan's football intellect and he actually even more so kyle. Shanahan probably let it be known that. Dan Wasn't really welcome in some of the football decisions. Mike's a little bit more diplomatic than Kyle was Zoran I mean you've heard Tommy tell the story a million times over the years Tommy's in the parking lot at Redskins Park the date at Zoran. Got The call to say. Hey you're offensive coordinator but The owner wants you to go to his house to interview for the head. Coaching job and Zorn's on the phone with his wife in the parking lot. And Tommy over. Here's him say to his wife. No honey they want me to be the head coach. I gotta come home and get a suit on Joe. Gibbs was untouchable but remember Joe. Let Vinnie and Dan play in the sandbox man. He let him do it because he was so enamored with free agency. Spurrier was you know more like Gruden For more money at the time Relatively speaking and General Marty was the one guy that basically said Daniel. We're GONNA do it my way or not doing it anyway. At all and Mardi basically kicked vinnie added a building took parking spots away from some of the other owners including Fred Dresner. They all hated Marty because they had only been in the thing for you know a year and a half at that point and Marty was like you. Guys don't know what you're doing. I know what I'm doing if you WANNA win. Let me show you how to win. And after a year. They weren't having any fun. Because Marty had complete control he had given Mardi complete control so they fired him Rivera to me is playing a little bit dumb like a Fox you know. He is keeping Dan Involved in making him feel like he's truly involved But but Ron Scott the last say for now You know it's the old you know. Keep your you know Friends close and your enemies closer. Not Saying that. He's enemies with Dan Snyder. But he isn't going to make the mistake that Bruce may be made that Mike may be made. Mardi may be made He is going to work with him and make him feel like he is involved to a certain extent but hopefully hopefully this is what we all hope The football people are making the decision. And I believe that there's at least honeymoon period for that Two more soundbites from Ron Rivera. That I WANNA play this one When he was asked essentially to give the fans like a time line on you know when you know he thinks this thing will start to turn around. Here's what he said. Well I think the truth is is is is. There is no timeframe. There really isn't But I do know that it's got to happen so I can tell you that much I stand I get that part of it. But it's not gonNA happen overnight. What we need is we need.

"Businesses and retirees the Oxford Club had previously been investigated for fraud and money laundering and during the last few months of Res Life. Agora was in the middle of another fraud investigation by the SEC. And of course. Ray had reams of video footage from the Oxford Club's annual conference that March. And who knows what he could have caught on camera but unfortunately we'll never know if this was the trail. Detective Bayer was on because three weeks into the investigation. He was reassigned to a different case. The Rivera homicide file was tucked away in the archives without any cooperation from Gora. Any witnesses or any real evidence of foul play the Baltimore. Pd didn't have much to go on a year. Later in two thousand seven stands berry was found guilty of securities fraud and his company pirate investor was ordered to pay one point five million dollars however his codefendant. Agora Inc was cleared of any responsibility. And that's the end of the story. No more evidence was ever found regarding raise death and Gora continues to deny any involvement. This tale of conspiracy and murder still has its supporters. But for many it's easier to believe the other explanation. Ray Killed himself during a sudden episode of psychosis as we've said before raise friends and family have always sworn that he didn't show any signs of mental illness. That may have been true but schizophrenia can appear suddenly and without warning even in people with no family history and no other mental health issues consider how Alison described raise behavior in the last week before his death. He was uncharacteristically anxious and scared. He seemed to think he was being followed. He taken up a sudden interest in freemasonry delusions of being watched or followed usually by some powerful secretive group. Like the freemasons are some of the most common symptoms of schizophrenia. Of course raise fears weren't totally out of line. He did see a man heading towards allison on the running track. The security alarm did go off two nights in a row with no explanation. He worked for a company that was involved in some very shady dealings and one of his colleagues had recently died. Under strange circumstances anyone in raised position might have drawn connections. That didn't really exist if he had a predisposition for mental illness. It wouldn't be surprising if those suspicions barreled into delusions. Whatever was said in that phone call on the night of May sixteenth might have triggered a full-scale psychotic break. Another clue lies in the strange note that was found taped to his computer. It alluded to a mysterious game and a complex conspiracy but there was no logic connecting any of it the FBI concluded that the note was probably written by someone with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. This seems like the most believable explanation and in truth it might also be the scariest that this healthy happy man suddenly fell into a psychotic episode so severe that he jumped to his death that no single person noticed anything was wrong until it was too late. That something like this could happen to anyone. It's safer to believe that there's some outlandish explanation to the madness some powerful conspiracy to unravel. That would let it all make sense. It's much harder to accept that all we have tangled threads and speculation after fourteen years. Ray Rivera's.

"Now back to the story eight days after he went missing on May sixteenth. Two thousand six thirty two year. Old Ray. Rivera's body was found in an office next to the Belvedere Hotel. The autopsy report listed his cause of death as undetermined. His injuries were consistent with a fall from a tall building. But figuring out how he fell would be up to the Baltimore. Police who were still scouring the scene for clues one of the first things they noticed. Was that the roof of the Belvedere hotel was hard to access as a bit of background. The BELVEDERE is one of the oldest buildings in Baltimore and when it opened in one thousand nine hundred three it was one of the most glamorous beige brick walls a flat mansard roof terra. Cotta cornices endures a grand entrance hall a ballroom at the top floor with views overlooking the city for a while. It was the place to be for Baltimore's high-society but by the early two thousands it had been turned into an apartment complex. There was a bar on the main floor open to the public and the thirteenth floor ballroom was turned into a nightclub but the rest of the building was residence. Only the elevator doors wouldn't open without a key card and to get any higher than the tenth floor. A concierge had two key visitor in there. Were only two doors that lead to the roof one on the twelfth floor in the service area behind the old ballroom the other was on the thirteenth floor at the back of the nightclub. Both of these areas were staff. Only so once again you'd need a concierge or another employee to lead you through the roof to be fair. The BELVEDERE hotel wasn't exactly on security lockdown. Sometimes the concierge left the elevator unlocked and the doors to the roof were usually unlocked to since bartenders on the thirteenth floor often went up there to smoke but if a six foot five two hundred sixty pound man like Ray. Rivera wanted to get to the roof. At least one staff member must have seen him somewhere along the way but the police interviewed every employee at the Belvedere and none of them saw ray on the evening of May sixteenth or at least none of them admitted to it. The police took the building security tapes into evidence but they didn't find any answers because the entire day and night of the sixteenth was blank a technical malfunction had stopped the hard drive from recording anything for over twenty four hours on the specific day. That Ray Rivera died. It seemed a little too convenient to be a coincidence..

Let us know Howard doing reach out on facebook and Instagram at podcast and twitter at podcast network this week. We're doing a special one part episode on Ray Rivera. A film editor. Who died under highly mysterious circumstances? Officially his cause of death has never been determined but theories range from suicide to murder. Possibly at the hands of the freemasons or a cabal of illegal investors ask any of his friends or family and they tell us it Ray. Rivera was a happy lively. Well adjusted man at thirty two years old all the pieces of his life were falling perfectly into place in November. Two thousand five. He married his girlfriend of five years. Allison Jones around the same time. He quit his nine to five job writing for a freelance newsletter and opened his own video. Production company filmmaking was his lifelong dream and he was finally ready to go for it. So in April two thousand six Ray and Allison put their house in Baltimore on the market. They were planning to move to Los Angeles as soon as it's sold. But on May Sixteenth. Two Thousand Six. Everything fell apart that.

"Of this story listener discretion is advised. This episode includes discussion of murder and suicide that some people may find offensive. We advise extreme caution for children under thirteen on. May Twenty fourth two thousand. Six Ray Rivera's body was found on the floor of an abandoned office right beneath a gaping hole in the ceiling. He'd apparently fallen from the top of the hotel. Next door crashed through the roof and died on impact but not a single witness had seen it happen at first. The police thought it was a suicide. But that story doesn't quite add up. Ray was a newlywed an aspiring filmmaker. He had no history of mental illness and he had big plans for the future. He didn't leave behind a suicide note. He didn't even turn off his computer screen before leaving the house beyond that he was terrified of heights in addition to land exactly where he landed. Ray couldn't have just fallen off of the roof. He would have had to take a running leap at a speed of at least eleven miles per hour if this happy mentally stable man suddenly sprint over the edge of one hundred ninety building. We have to wonder what was he. Running from?.

"Let me tell you something I listened to that I know you did okay. You did hero always very much in tuned to our sponsors on the show So Berries for Luger with this column about how the whole Gibbs Rivera thing came together and and I'll net it out. I'm going to read some of the quotes in the story but the NETA netting of it out is that first of all Gibson. Rivera did not know each other prior to November December timeframe frame. This year they'd never had a conversation Snyder reached out to Rivera. I and Rivera called Gibbs and gibbs invited him over and they had a a long conversation and gibbs basically did the nostalgic thing in her talking about how great the Red Sox how great it can be the Lombardi trophies the fans and how into into it they are He also talked about what it was like to work for. Dan and I'll start there He said To Rivera would I tried to tell them is what it was like with Dan for me. Quote Dan for me when it was free agency. It's twelve O one. Am when the period it legally opens Dan's right by my side on the phone. Dan is very successful with agents. They want to talk to him. They know he'll make a deal. He's not afraid to spend money and so so I kind of tried to just give Rivera the real understanding of what it's like to work with Dan And he had said earlier in the column. He said we had four years together. It developed a real relationship because we went through a lot of highs and lows together all all the things that can go on for coach and owner. We develop that friendship so when we talk it's mostly a common sense conversation. He would kind of relate to me what some of the some of the people that he was really interested in and that led to Rivera and then Rivera's the one that reached out to Gibbs But he said look when we talk. It's his friends. I'm not paid consultant. I do think it's fair and applicable to this conversation just to remind everybody. The Dan Snyder Snyder is a regular contributor to Joe Gibbs his big time charity youth for tomorrow and has been for a long time right And so I also. I think it's fair to say that Joe Gibbs is experienced with Dan. Snyder was far different than any other coaches experience. Those things are correct and so if Rivera gist reached out to find out about what it was like to work for the Redskins and for Dan. Snyder from Joe Gibbs. I think that was a mistake. I think you should have talked to a lot of other people I would and I'm not suggesting that he didn't I do know that he did not reach out to Mike Shanahan. They did not have a conversation prior to taking the job with Mike. I don't know who has his agent is but it literally would be malpractice not to have given your client the Oh you should do this. You should talk to these people. Oh now incan choose not to do it but there's no excuse for going into this job without your eyes open. There's more within enough information out there about what it's really like and it's not all it's not all made up stuff it's re- it's the same. It's the same stuff saved for Gibbs safer this little oasis of Non Turmoil it's all pretty much the same name so there's no I mean there's no excuse for for Rivera to have taken this job and be surprised at anything he'll have to deal with down the line. I would assume that one of the conversations he had with norv Turner at some point. Don't you think yeah. But North Turner's experience with the owner was not a good one but it could also be chalked up to a new owner. Ernie was thirty four years old right but but I mean the the next step in that would be. He's matured since then Dan but he hasn't right. He hasn't gotten better. He may be different but but the issues are still the same. Like north turned north. Experience was right. There's a small window and you know he was. That was his first time as the owner. Look I don't know what North told Ron Rivera Hill I obviously nor told his son that you know North told his son that runs their. Ron will protect you. And if you a head coach rush this is the quickest way to do it on offensive coordinator job. And if you're good at if if if if the team is good for a couple of years in three years you'll be a head coach right so that that's the path that do it. So there's another there's just another part of the public gibbs also said that he had never he didn't have any conversations about Bruce Allin with Dan Snyder he said all the conversations have been about coaching essentially That was just an added thing So so one of the things that I think it's just interesting to sort of just think about is if as a fan which I am and you're not lake like what do I think about Joe Gibbs having so much influence at this point he seventy nine years old. He's been out of football since two thousand seven so twelve years. You know out of it. he you know waxed nostalgic in very wistful in in in his conversation with Ron Rivera about all of the glory days which are now so long ago that you know it's not unusual anymore to have conversations with people who say really. They were good like a lot of people. I mean a lot of younger people and I And that his experience was probably far different than every other coaches experienced. That was here. You know how to how redskin fans how should they feel about that. My personal view is Joe's a winner in Joe's biggest strength over the course forcible long period of time professionally in two different sports where he is a hall of Famer in both of them and he's always said this picking people. He's always been really league good at identifying the kind of people that can contribute to a winning organization in so that from that standpoint whether he's clueless s two how it is now which might be a little bit as to how people really feel about the team now and how bad. It's really gotten in what Dan really is and has been with other people. I bet you. He's not completely naive to what it's been like with other coaches can't they can't be But with all that said it doesn't mean that Joe Gibbs going going to pick a bad person that he's going to. He's going to suggest a person that isn't going to be. You know a guy that can win somewhere somewhere anyway. Hopefully here I mean I still want Joe Gibbs. If he's willing to give advice to the owner the owner didn't have anybody else so one thing we've learned about Snyder when it comes to who football advisors. They're not a lot of people. Apparently he's very close with no and if Gibbs's there that's not a bad outlet. It's not a bad sounding board if I'm a Redskins Fan. I'm happy about Joe Gibbs being a Dan Snyder confidante at this point it's better than the alternatives completely. I agree so I mean if those has been Bruce L. right however flawed Joe's thinking may be sometimes in his perception of what the team is like. Now I'd want Joe Gibbs to be part of that you know by all it's by all rights show. KIP should own the team. I mean you know. Him and Sam Grossman were two of them fitters back in that thing and he got. It's funny he got beat out by Snyder and now he's he's he's WanNa Snyder's confidence. What do you think that relationship relationship reviews? Snyder gibs I think it. I think it's good. I think I think I I. I think it's as good as it can get for Dance Snyder. I think the I mean look again if Dan Snyder didn't own the redskins no matter how Richie is. Most people would wouldn't care less about him and you know I mean I just think it's it's been beneficial for Joe Gibbs to have Dan Snyder under As a friend what do you think he really and truly believes about what kind of owner Dan Snyder is 'cause you can be friends in think. Think Kylie of him as a person what do you think he really thinks of him as an owner. I mean Joe knows a winner from a loser. Yeah that's a tough one. That's it's hard. It's hard for me to think that you'll never get it at a gym ever. It's not what he does now. It's hard it's hard for any. It's hard for me to think anybody radius smart as I think. Joe Gibbs is to think that Dan Snyder is a good owner under any circumstances now he talked about free agency now. That was the first time Joe Joe Experience Real Free Agency so he was like a kid in the candy you know. He got sold a bill of goods by Vinnie and Dan. About how much looking at much fund this get Outta March Aleta. Yeah you know he was thinking about the days of Plan B free agents and all that and so I think initially it was influenced by the fact that Wow I go out and get whatever player I want you know. Yeah Yeah I mean you know one of the reasons I mean. It was health related in nineteen ninety three in January and March of ninety three when he left football but it was also a Changing Day to in football was in its infancy and the redskins had an older team and what they weren't going to have a hell of a lot of salary cap space south in the new salary cap era so he got out just in time. Although you know Joe would've figured it out I mean well. The thing is if JOE would've stayed maybe Reggie he white would have signed here with Washington. Maybe God would have told Reggie to sign and what you know and that could have been a game changer right there because it was it was the redskins packers it was and he came very close to playing Washington but he wound up picking Green Bay. It's ironic for Reggie White. God bless his soul. He went on to work with Joe Snyder. Joe Joe Gibbs on his racing team to Reggie created his own little racing tied with Joe Gibbs racing for minority drivers really. I've I met Reggie White. I went down to go Joe Gibbs racing once and did a story about Reggie white trying to create this minority driving program through Joe Gibbs. I spent spent the day with Reggie white and what a fantastic charismatic human being was absolutely great to be around. Think about that in ninety three three it was either the redskins or the packers packers were the bad franchisees redskins were the big brand of great franchise and Washington to Washington was still chocolate. City and Young Bay was was was Green Bay but Reggie happy night on the town. He had to go to Appleton. Yeah so is it cell phone even know if it's south of Green Bay. I Agree Prophet. You probably sold grocery store now. I've been to Green Bay before the Green. It was super value. I think it was They were a big grocery wholesaler but I remember I. That was the only time I've ever been to Green Bay. Packers game at Lambeau but Green Bay.
