"And john came. And i kid at drums upstairs in the attic was like the playroom and john bonham was playing them and jolly and i got rescue sold charlie jolly and i hold in the basement because it was huffing and his leg was getting too short so we will hold. And there's no photo of jolly watts ringers are holding the drum. The bass was far out amazing so then moments in the life from the rest of the day was pretty regular. Yeah there was. There was a story that i remembered. John told on a tv interview where he said when the band broke up they all knew they were going to be okay but they were worried about you because we're one of the main songwriters and they were afraid. What's ringo going to do. And then when your work came at your solo stuff post beatles was the most successful of any post beadle right from the beginning. I know blue the mind but they wear all on my alley records. But yeah i sat in the golden. What am i gonna do. Not guy and i thought well you know as we spoke before all family parties and we had a lot of them saturday night they liked to get happy and mary my mom and our sisters and own goals and they all sing these songs you know show tunes and standards and i thought. Well i'm gonna do then you know. That was my idea. George martin to get me out of the house okay. I'm going to sing those songs. I've listened to all my life and so that's how we started. Then the other record was an accident with drake. So georgia's doing All things must pass these flow impeaching. You know we're talking about how it happens. I sent my car to get pete at the airport. And when he came punctured a horse. See you like country music. Because i had a lot of in those days cassettes and as the sessions were and he said you know you come to nashville and make a record congo nashville. What three four months to make a records and what nashville skyline took two days. And i said okay so anyway. I ended up in nashville and do days later. We'd finished who's a blues. No and then. Richard barrios that these are all sides. Stories harry nelson. I would do in. The grammys in nashville. Our because we were great. Powells and richard came. And oh richard. He produced harry. And why don't we stay after the grammy doesn't do a record and he he was the one. Aw why don't we go to. La and we came to la. And who knew john arrive. George arrived the band. Were on it was like an all stars record really. Yes and i kept that momentum going on the road i have all these different places you have to have hits yet to have a good time and you know we've had the all stars now so anyway that's how we got to the ringo album which was great. Yeah mason. yeah if you look at the players it's like a who's who and i bet. It was superfund make a. It was really fun to make them as well. It was read a lot of fun and the no no song was fun. I guess we were doing no no true at the time or no no no. That's what i said. Anything we went was no no. Did you play on. All things must pass. I wear that. Yeah you sound. Sound like george cole up saying did you plan all things i i. I don't know. I don't remember any way. Then when he puts the record out and the little booklets and said ringo didn't even remember he didn't mention he didn't remember. I was a great track great album. It's a really good album. So what what other. What other post beatles stuff did you play on the other lads. Well they played on mine. I played across the plastic owner band. There's just incredible. Just john and klaus annoy and john going through france stream so wasn't even in between take sometimes in the take he would get it out. You know great great to be out of that one. I loved that record because it's three of us. You know what i mean. The dynamics just really great. And i played on leon russell's first album solo album stephen stills and i played a bb king in london after my sort of six weeks after the break of my feet and started moving and play. And doing you know. And that's all it takes. But i did have like a moment of sadness. What am i gonna do. And look what i'm doing now. I'm talking to you too. Great nick ruben. I can remember you coming to the studio to play on a tom. Petty song. yeah east west all of the studio. Yeah yeah you played a smaller drum kit than most of the other drummers who had played and you seem to be working less hard than everybody else and the sound tone coming off. The drums filled the room. Much more than anybody else and it was looked like a magic trick. Yeah well it's our flayed. I mean. I know people say well out what i do you know and the other thing about tom was i said i'll play on four tracks because i didn't live with him forever because he was a beautiful thing was i called him one so making a record and i called him and he said i'll do it said avenue nice. Gs you said. Look newest and he came and sang this song that somebody else's sang with me but the management audit would ruin the whole career so tom just came out and i was in civil some of the videos so we will hang but when i said okay i'll plan for by three hundred daddy as you were. There is a an he said. Trickier than your thoughts. As the worst weirdness yup absolutely and i remember at that point in time we really would orchestrate how drums would go and you were used to a different style of playing where you would just kinda groove through it and then play fills and it was fascinating to me the way you worked and it really worked out great for the stuff you played on with tom. Yeah good they sent me a gold disc. Gotta go without record great. You sent me one. I was looking around. But i've just moved around my some of my stuff and i've taken that one down anyway rick one moment okay. I'm good. It's a pleasure speaking to you in seeing you again. Okay and i look forward to doing it again soon. Gonna facetime full and telling me. You're a pushover. Please do call me today because they wanna know about drums and music.

"To california at one point in time. Yeah well when we landed in new york there was no bigger moment in my life than that where actually in america all the music we love is from america in america is bake and you know talking about coincidences. We got off the plane from sweden. Heathrow what's his face. The guy ran. Ed sullivan got off. A plane from new york didn't know anything about it. We didn't know him either but and he sort of booked us but on the way to that show. Brian gone to carrollton that he wanted more promotion and we landed with a number one. I mean you worked out. We landed with a number one. Thanks to murray the k and all those deejays amazing for out because we were worried. You know we were like you must've heard the story that george had his sister lived in america. Knee went on holiday. So he'd be going round the record stores. You got the beautiful. Never heard of them. I think we're on the swan label. Yes and he came back action on. They don't know us over there because we used to it now. Spain denmark holland wherever we played. It was crowded so he was. They don't know us and we were like a bit worried. But anyway we're go into america you know and that's what we did and the other thing that saved our lives there. We found out from the press because after all got on a train and went to washington we were talking to the press and they said you know we've all come to shit on you to shoot you down from england who needs it you know and he said and you started shouting at us so we love you because we were and soon back. We're from liverpool from new york. I think we were giving them what they were giving us. They couldn't believe because everyone was so paid deference to them l. Yes it's very nice. Thank you we're gonna take a quick break but we'll be right back with more from ringo. This episode is brought to you by hp whenever you do your best thinking the hp specter x. Here's the rest of rick rubin's conversation with ringo starr. How would you describe the relationships within the band. Well big relationship with with our writers. John paul and i mean things that went on when i joined the band. We only ever two rooms with hotels. We'd all the same call. We had to always getting to know each anyway. Paul was the only one that sleeve with me. I as we don't know if he fought so whatever you know anyway. There's a famous story. Historically where when john and yoko kind of split up for a minute and john came to california. Were you living in california. At that time. I was in california that time. Yeah did you guys get to hang out. We got to hang out a loss and he was doing harry nilsson's pussy cat album and the good and the bad thing about that was. That's where harry lost his voice. 'cause we're all living in a house in malibu or twelve of and it was a lot of mood-altering situations you know the one night i go into the studio keith moon jim keller and i wear the dramas but we got around until you should go home. Pack leaving the house. You know what i mean. We were all just hanging out taking whatever and doing music and we talk about rock around clock urges version. And jesse. Ed davis the guitar player. You know we all take in like a hit a speed at the in. And so it's very fast if you listen but gsa actually played a solo. And we're wow yes davis solo so a lot of old stories from the old days. I remember going up to the upstairs room at the rainbow the rainbow bar and grill on sunset. And there's some sort of a plaque there that i think that keeps name your name a few of the people. He spent a lot of time up. There commemorated yeah. Yeah you know like where do you end up. You've been here you've done this. It's the second night you know you've been fifty hours of work and just sort of your body just thought to take you up those and we all you know because everyone was pretty far gone. We'd all hang out together. It's just a great vibe and we could go there and be crazy. You know one of the other crazy things are happened. Was i had a house in la. And every time led zeppelin come. Bonham is mission in life was to get in a call. Come to my house. Pick me off and throw me in the pool and i remember vividly one night. I'm dressed off. I'm going now. Does whatever and johnno john i'm. I'm not active. We hung out quite a bit. John and aisles so good then then we'd sort of move to on the rocks. That was the next place where we hung out. Do you remember. The first time we saw john bonham play now but i remember the first time i advice at the boys who have policy in england. We're having a party and it's actually a great day to mention this story and led zeppelin comb but jimmy com come. Jimmy doesn't come to parties. Anyway jimmy came..

"Heckler broken accident in the back but yeah something warmed my heart when i saw them just thought and when i would play for them when he couldn't make it it's just what great play with. It just was good for me you know. And in the end look at the end of amazing best move they ever made arguably yes sir. Yeah i mean. Why did they pick we. I mean what's that the the drummers know johnny hutch to talk about johnny hutch there were two drummers in liverpool johnny coach wazir the one that energy was right and you can hear it when you hear the recording to this day. Yeah you can hear the excitement in the performances. Yeah they're alive. No one will believe how incredibly it was that we're in the studio making a record and then you saw it as your acetate. I always little tapes and it was like you made a record and we knew every time it was going to be played on the bbc because they a playlist so and we were always in the same car. And you know it's like love me do is going to be on at eleven fourteen habit that precise and we'd pull for like eleven twelve get ready. It's on the radio then to you know nowadays. I don't think the kids understand that the steph up is easier now but then these were major steps and we will make them. That was what was great. Amazing all out well. Was it strange when the band decided to stop doing shows and still record no. That was the best movie we ever made. Tell me about it. We went onstage and the audience made a lot of noise and in the end. We're playing such big venues. I couldn't hear them. You know we were always house. Pa now it'd be great. But he was a house va. So i'd have to look at polls. Footsie was always tapping and john. The so oh yeah. And then if they went if they went. Oh that's where we are. You know that song. And i couldn't do any fills i've just just keeping it together. Because they were back on wor silence. I had to just keep the groove going and i felt i was turned into a really not as good a german as i could be always for the live and john felt the same and then we talked to paul and george and we. Let's take a break and go in the studio and we can just be in. The studio turned out fine and we lived in studio and we live. We got was on the roof where it's in documentary coming out and even then. I was laughing with paul the other day. A tunnel station going on. I'm not in the shot. And he said well who wants to pay live nuhere. Megan i do and the lead. The joke with the beatles was included in abbey road. Let's do it in egypt. Let's do it in the roman entry the cover. Let's walk across the road that was pulled settlers. Let's just woke across abbey road great and with the roof show. We gone through that. Let's do it in alaska. Let's do it. you know mount everest. Let's do this and micalizzi oguz pushing for this romans dome drone ing in somewhere and you know god knows where but anyway we think it pulling him. Let's do it on the roof of we're playing live. It all happened after the big discussion of big big big. Let's just do this. I mean i mentioned that is so iconic and it just four boys walking across as zebra crossing for crise. Yes he is still doing it today. The flying in from all around the world stanton self the traffic the joy is. We've made some great music. And i'm part of it and i love that and it's still happening today. It's amazing. Have you seen the peter jackson edit yet of the of the let it be six hours attitude. Wow and it's from the starts and it's abandoned a room. You know what i mean and yes the the first two hours. It's very cold because we're at twickenham in a film shoot too big but so we we got some of our troubles out so but i've seen six hours. Were was the documentary because of lockdown. Peter jackson is locked in new zealand and he is cleaned up a few bits of put a bit of this in so i haven't seen the absolute final understood but i had all at a showing of an hour or two hours forty. It is holiday home with his holiday friends and he said it looks great. So good when you saw six hours. Did it put you back in the room or did you did you it differently than what you saw to tell me about. The experience six hours was great. Because i saw what i'd been moaning about the last thirty years or forty years that no joy in the first one does not. I didn't find one moment of joy and when p. to took the job god bless him and he keep coming into la with his iphone. Say look what i found a. We're laughing and we're fooling around. With being the lads you know we use utions. We the lads. We are offering downs. Just how it is and michael sorted took the down to be the most important thing in life you know which god bless him. But that's what it did and this one shows you the joy and as discussions and some arguments but that's what it was always like when you talk about discussions. I always remember years ago. Early days of the in. John came in with a song with a record. He said i want you to play like this and we played it at two drummers owners i said but it's got to dummies. Okay okay do you know. And that's how it was. You did whatever the idea was. You did what you could do. Because i i. I wasn't an octopus thin. I couldn't didn't have four about johnny one of the craziest things he ever did. Blue was all the way with be club liberal saturday night all night. We'd all all the bands you've been playing with the but johnny was playing with two sticks in each end. You'd never known so many confused people in your life ha. Yeah that lied alright. What was it like when you moved from the uk to the us you move.

"Changed my life. She doesn't always amazing. Amazing and other kids in the uk weren't hearing that kind of music a land and glenn miller and all the big bands of the day. You know the side stories. This is when we were the beatles. And we were opening for helen shapiro. She had this band. Do you remember the ted heath. Big bend was a big band in england at the time the fifties anyway. They were all like his players but anyway we were allowed so now saying hi what are you doing. only you. And he'd say like forty forty and you're still playing we've been looking at. These is a wait forty. Did you always imagine playing music. Young men getting job. Was that always like how you imagined life going. No i dreamt from when it was saying gene in this same hospital. This hospital to do with me because i was laying in bed. We had people come round and teach it to knits and stuff. You can do in bed yet. Nitin they brought in these rackers and tambourines and drums like acoustic stuff. You can hit and shape. And i hit that drum and i wanted to be a drummer. Wow and every time she came back to. If you didn't give me a drama wouldn't play in the band you know it was like lightning. Lighten under attack me truth and i wanted to be only from that that moment. I wanted to be a and when i came out of ospital. Go round the stores as a quite a few music stores in liverpool. You know the musical city really and just look at the drums. And you know. God's gift i mean by stepdad's on-call died. We lived in before he went down to london outside london. Romford to go to the funeral little dino. The guy was a drummer and he saw that of says that all these drums and he asked the guy's wife which you sell them to him could he by those drums and he brought me my first kit. That gave me a snare drum that allowed me to join all those early bands. Amazing you know. It's like magic something you said earlier. It's interesting to me that you first heard the song that you covered in a movie. It's interesting because we now we think of if you hear a song and a movie. It's because it's already popular in the world and now it's in then you get to see it in a man but it sounds like for you. It was the opposite where the first time you got to hear. It was in a movie. Yeah but you know. Bill was huge in that time and it was rocking mall. Whatever read of it you know. We went from skiffle into rock into soul music. Really and tell me steely english. Singer from the fifties and sixties. He was in the navy and he came back and he results a singer. The two is coffee bar in london. And saying what do you call that music and go. I think i'm going to call it. Rock and roll and the british press. He's calling it rock and roll like he and benjedid was fun wasn't a lot of rock and roll in i in england at the time you know it's all in the family policies. I went to was all music from the forties. Really everybody at to sing show tunes show tunes and stuff like that. Yeah so anyway. Moves came from out of the blue and that made me go left or right to me and in my opinion made the right decisions. Was it as much the energy of rock and roll that spoke to you. I was like what was it. How how would you describe. The connection having never heard it before never had it before had bill haley and he was rocking but more important. All those gene ages loved rock and roll. They'd be an into it whenever it was and the attitude was if we hear rock and roll we riffled the similar because they were just so excited i mean i remember what was that first movie. Elvis did like a west in a their country boys. He's like this big on the screen and we go on cinema jesse elvis in liverpool and this big all the girls screamed coming back and see him he comes they knew he was coming and they took off so we were not the first band to be screamed at. Was there a turning point when it went from feeling like you're in a band like everybody like the other. The other lads ruin bands to where it felt like okay. This is really different being in this band in my own way. It's all about the band. And i my all my musetta getting better bans and as we know where we ended up but anyway rory was great because it was a chopin. We had suits and we're dressed off from those days. More like the fifties his big act of craziness at the end of the set was he'd be singing in some rock number and get it was always enough ripe piano beyond me climbing that jump over my head to the wall but so it was like a lot run running the hurricane red. The johnny was this incredible rhythm gets august. I loved him and he stood there and he played i was relating to jimi hendrix. And rory is store for new at a great voice. You do mailman giving buddy holly's numbers and it really would. But when we ended up in germany playing the kaisa keller and the beatles plane down the road in the bambi kino living beyond the toilets then. Of course the guy who owned both clubs decided to put his both on the same club. That's where. I became an huge fan of the beatles of that frontline. I have to say. I only love that front line and where we got our strength from when i think helped us become who we aw was between two bands. We our the weekend. We did twelve hours between us. And you know you get to know what you're doing and you get to play and you get to feeling each other and then i went back and played a month with tony sheridan road. That was like the music city. Hamburg was great. It's very sad now. Is there a couple of years ago with clouds and it's all gone but anyway things change. Yes what did you see in that front line like when you go to see them. Play before you joined the band. What was it like. How were they different. They were just. The vibe was so tight and great and then you know rory the group would finish a native another two hours to do something. i'd always just. I was drunk by then. Of course we were teenagers. Well not ready these. But i would just sit in front. You know in front of the club in front of the stage and just and then. Mg out 'cause they were until four in the morning. Doing and i'd request songs one song every question. You have to call paul and later on when i just look the front line it was powerful and it was the best frontline in liverpool. That's how it was. And when i joined the band john was talking to be one day since you know we used to be really scared of you. 'cause that'd be that good hey play you know say balls in fact.

"Here's rick rubin and ringo starr they you are. Can you hear me okay. yeah. I'm on the phone to pull a gave me advice about dealing with you. What did he say he said. You know wonderful human being. It's a weird day for us to be talking because Jolly because charlie's passing. I just wanted to ask you any fond memories of charlie. I have a lot of fun memories of jolly and just because you like music. My line always used to be over the years. Johnny so jolly plays even less than i do and any musician got that one but we had some nights out. Someone was just telling me jollies quote. Well what do you think about. Ringo's germany's i don't know much about his drama but we have a great time we go out together so you know it's sad it's like but it happens you know that's the deal that's part of growing up. But he was a great plan. I mean he held those guys together. For god's sake is job was hard of the mind. Yeah he was incredible incredible. I feel like as good as it as good as it's ever been done. Yeah well we're from the school where you don't have to be busy and my absolute when anyone tells me or asked me how to play as well you know. You don't need if the singer seeing and you don't need to be doing drum bougie you know what i mean. Just hold together do fills. That's i was back with the song something that changed with your style. Though like in the early beatles stuff it was more straightforward playing through the song but then as time went on it got more almost orchestral like answering. And how did that start. How did the switch happen. I think that just was a natural progression. Well i actually understand what you're saying and you know when abbey road came out two years ago now i think the re- master they ought to be get together at abbey road and friends and family all the kids and the ad playback and i'm playing. I'm sitting next full man. I'm much too busy. And you know if you listen to bathroom window. Those that side of that album. I got the new drums a new kids at drums and actually cough heads. I never had cough. It's always plastic and the depth. Everything i'd been trying to get with the tea towels and putting taxes cigarettes cause of the skin. The death was so great so she came into our our bathroom. It's all all over those tracks. I think that's just how i felt. Then i just loved the sounds on you know. I just did a master class. And i was trying to tell them. You know there's parts. The drummer plays like bunk bunk to digitally. That's a pause and then this fills you know bike. Tom ball by ball dumb. You know there is a difference to you know. They're they all like it's all feels. Well no not really. It's part obvious. Besides charlie from the old days with other drummers that you were impressed by who were the ones you liked well. I was impressed by a lot of different rooms. But you know how we it may sound. I only have a practice once. And then i learned how to play join in bands of liverpool. We all made the mistakes and got it together. And when i played a record solomon doesn't matter who i listened to the record and it wasn't like listening the drums just scared and alga means i'm aram. It's like One of those moments in my life. I'm in london in nevada and georgian. I shit but he was out in clubs form and playing records and he goes around to to just this crazy bad. It's like paul and then sorta helped me on. I can make pots now. You know what. I mean that that blew me away as such a simple move changed my life and my way of drum and just that hi hats. Amazing it's amazing. How we hear the things that we need to hear at the right time to move us on our journey. You know it's amazing. Yeah i mean you can't planet. No it's impossible just happens. I mean if it's like the evidence continuing sony of sliding doors. You know if out. Come over on this moment. If i hadn't being in a whatever we divided another drink and forgot that whatever but it moved me on long i wanted to ask you bet your singing the because sounds like you're singing better than ever joe from you brother. That's good. it's amazing. I think the more you do. I mean it's a again a lot of help from my engineers as without again you do a cover round the clock and i want to ask you. Do you remember the first time you ever heard the song rock around the clock like it was yesterday. Tell me yeah. So i mean ospital i have my voice genes that day and i'll spill and will weeks away from my fifteenth and i don't want to be there for my fifteenth day and i'm well now i'm out of bed and walking and running playing. I'm fourteen and so my mom and i tried to get me out before my day. We went to talk to the doctors and they checked me in anyway. Couple of weeks before was fifteen. They said you can leave. You know i had tb so we came out. We went down to london to my stepdad's family and said hi to them and then we came back and then a couple of weeks later my grandparents who brought me off with my mother. We're going to the isle of man. That's an island just off england. It was like the holiday spot. If it's like the florida of north of england they would go over the guys from the factories and that. Kiss me quick at some ads anyway. Rock around the clock. The movie was playing. And i went to see the movie and besides bill. Haley blew me away. They ripped off the cinema. They pull the seats out. They were throwing them at the screen. Just rock and roll crazy. And i thought that's good. That's that was probably not move. Move me to music. But the thing with bill haley was. It was always like you dad. We'll teenagers young teenage neighbors. Just like your daddy played rocky was the only one and the bbc actually played him several times because they played nothing. The bbc was so boring living in the past. But then when eddie cochran elvis of course buddy old that crowd came out. It was like all right. That's rock rock. Sorta came to its place but we did have a lot of incredible sort of blues player. Love the blues on everyone knows my sort of lightning hopkins and a lot of the place of course and and country came out going into that low. That and i was on the road to music. Now you know and i was playing with liberal. Damn then i ended up with rory and while i was with rory brian f signed knocked on the door position. We didn't get till noon. Bang bang as the doing it at lunchtime session. Would you can't make it. you come down. That's started playing with them and then out of the blue we were on this gig holiday count. Three months gig in those days was incredible. And i got a phone from brian so that move that on. You know what. I mean so just being where you being is. It's like there's no explanation really just happened. You know meant to be meant to be. You know the fun part of when i joined the all the people in living from saint. You're not leave in rory all. Yeah.

Oh are the same thing so like you're allowed to do that's just like language. That's english. I hate this but i do think that so much of this has to do with like when you're super rich and you have the trademark. You just do everyone because you can like. That's just what you do. I guess he's dropping it though 'cause he was just like this is not a fight good. It's true good. Maybe ringo should just release his own line of cock rings. He can call them. Ringo star's people got upset that this was happening because apparently there he's had a he's had a legal claim against them for years and finally just dropped it. That's what the news is is like this. He's been harassing the the ring. Oh makers for years because the he said that the name was identical in appearance. Sound connotation and pronunciation. I would argue that. It's only identical in pronunciation if you say it a certain way it is not identical in appearance. It doesn't look like ringo. It doesn't sound like ringo really. It's ringo and connotation do you think the connotation of okaka ring is the same as the drummer from the beatles stinks..

Yes i love that. Mariah carey is just not even zip. Zip zip part of the conversation. She's just who what we're gonna how you know good screaming everybody. You're really good at that. Okay moving on. This is a funny crisis. Pr that i haven't seen before so black who keeps popping up ever since trump pardoned him. And he's like out he's like really attention start and so he's making a lot of news So over the last week he's rapper. Yeah over the weekend he threw i have yet to see actual receipts about this but the headlines are all saying that he threw one hundred thousand dollars into the ocean and the toilet like on a yacht off a yacht inside a yacht into the ocean. Both what looks like many exactly and then there's also video of him throwing what looks like money into a toilet and flushing so the the reports again. who is. Who's counting this. Because if you look at the at the actual like individual bills there's no way at adds up to one hundred thousand dollars. They are hundreds yes but the reports are saying that he threw a hundred thousand dollars. I don't know that i believe that. Because that's just like an absurd amount of money. And i feel like that pile of cash would have been bigger but claim it's a hundred thousand dollars. He threw it into the ocean. He trends on twitter. People are mad at him because he's wasting money. If this flagrant disregard for like money and the help that it could provide and so. I guess to counter out the the bad headlines. He's been getting he's done to. Very charitable things. Have you seen this. No one of them. He passed out like tens of thousands of dollars of air conditioners to a florida neighborhood. That was going through like a heat wave. Okay that's wunderle just in my mind. The image was him handing out money but then all of a sudden who's sitting air conditioning. My mind was like how they're so heavy. How would you hand them out. Like that. Like my brain was like trying to visualize. And then it just like any my mind. He was unfolding air conditioners handing them out so happy. They're so heavy our own. That's crazy you had a truck. He had a truck. That's such a nice thing to do. i like that. He drove the truck around. He hasn't been out to one hundred people. There's like very cute. Video of them like the people are crying. They're happy he's getting incredibly good. Press and then. I guess that press wasn't enough though so he also went to an elementary school and read to kiss all to counter throwing. This is all to counter throwing money away into a toilet and into the ocean. Okay but it's working so it's truly. It's working in the purest sense of crisis. Pr where now when you google kodak black yeah the stories you get are all the positive ones you have to actually google like kodak black toilet or kodak black ocean to get. The bad stuff could act by ocean working really working. What else did he do. Well he read to school kits cla- he went to a school and then he read like a big book to them and he was very cute and like i don't know there's a lot of their talking to him and he's responding he's like. "Good for him But yeah he still makes music to fit his lifestyle. Peace and love. He is clearly a complex person. Who's moods burg muster exp-. But i mean he also seems to be generally on the path of doing the right thing and it seems like he finally has come to a point of acceptance that he will always be remembered as a beetle but it also seems that people are seeing him more as his own person too. So i think there's kind of a nice medium being here. He only spent eight years in the biggest ban ever but has seen success following those years. There's no way his name as a beetle alone can account for that. I mean how many other musicians have tried to do what he's done in failed and are still respected in their craft I mean rinkos had a pretty successful solo career. I don't know there's so many bands out there from that era where you're like. They didn't do shit afterwards or like they've done stuff but they're not remembered the way ringo is even if people would argue that he hasn't had a successful solo career. You can at least say he's had a pretty fucking prolific solo career. He's number one hits. He's had hit records. I'm going to say he had a successful career. I would say he had a successful career any had a. He is one of the few artists that still can tour on a yearly basis and sell out whatever venue and he's eighty and he's fucking eighty equip the so was he the oldest beetle yes by just a few months because john came after him in october. So enjoy the youngest son. Paul george okay. Yep but yeah like fucking give the man some goddamn. We're spending you know what he's fucking eighty. He still dying his hair and his beard. And it doesn't look weird adolfo there you think that's the top men's he did. It plays a gentleman not identify. He won. He is the top liverpudlian. Never one liverpudlian wrinkled dangle. Liz john taking the stage getting on that podium. The fuck inclosing closing to say he's untalented and a joke is not only wrong. It's just willfully ignorant. Ringo is a successful musician in his own right and more importantly he's doing it his own way. He's doing what he loves with people. He loves for him. You can't beat that he can't and that's the story of ringo starr and you know. What guys stall downhill from here. It kind of is all downhill from what we're starting the year off on a high note just plunging ourselves into the depths of despair after the. I mean like all the rest of might be two partners. Let's be honest it's probably going to be. I might be able to do george next week. In one episode. We will see long. One gonna be surprised. Just like buckle for long episodes guys. Yes still working from home. No long commutes. that's okay do they. Just listen to like fifteen minutes every time you do dishes. You slowly learn about the beatles yet. It's gonna take you along time but he'll do it. Yeah but thank you guys for listening. I actually genuinely hope lake. I could change some minds about ringo. I hope that people come out of this feeling. They learned something he legit might be the best. Beatle he is the best beatle. I've been saying this spring year. Because you know what i'm ringo i'm the ringo. I'm not gonna quite myself to anybody in the beatles into the ring but there's no fucking way in hell i'm gonna quit. Whistle on polar toured. No way in fucking hell..

I think it came with like booklets and lake pictures and all the shit so i mean it makes sense. Those moments really though became especially important because six years later wrinkle would once again lose another brother. George harrison would die of brain cancer in two thousand and one and if that wasn't enough he was also dealing with at the same time with his own daughter lee fighting her own cancer battle cancer. All over fucking tara fuck cancer. Unfortunately she pulled through late twenties early thirties so oh shit but like still she had. She had a lot of issues as well since the turn of the century. Ringo is taken any loss with great dignity. he's a spread the message of peace and love and still happily married to his wife barbara together. They are quite philanthropic giving to charities while he performs many in event for charity as well in two thousand eight he received some flak from fans when he abruptly declared he would no longer take fan mail or sign. Anything era was pissed. He's not going to do it. Well are you want him to do so. He did say like i'm too busy. I can't do people like oh you turn your back but later on like it. People came to find out the he discovered. People were selling shit online with like a forged signature of his because basically people would ask for him to sign something and they ford. His shit yet is very to do. That's what people do and he wants he was like it's like it's like your grandpa discovering the white people can do this law that your grandpa. It's like lars ulrich discovering napster like that. Yeah it's kind of the same reaction. But like i also feel like less aggressive. I don't. I'm not gonna sign shit. Shit get online and like people like pissed about it. It's like like who fan mail and like autographs anymore. Nobody thinks i feel like autographs are worth shit nowadays. My just i don't care. I don't care anymore. Experiences mean more to me than somebody signature. Yeah i would. I saw him any signed. Something it's like. He wrote me back. I don't even know if he wrote it. I would rat. I feel like people would rather have like a picture with him now that they can post on. Instagram is. That is worth more than anything. He could possibly sign true church room. Or like i would prefer to have a very rare pressing of beatles album then something signed by ringo right and like what are you having him sign is he just saying random photo or you like you're not mailing a rare beetles pressing him to sign. Yeah like a signed photo means nothing unless you own like an italian restaurant instead. I ns nothing. You'll i'm hungry. Could go for some sketti right now. "This is just gone places. I didn't think it was gonna go. I'm excited well. You do know it goes here because they created the show shining time station. Yeah yeah based off of the thomas and friends show. But here's the thing in thomas and friends he was just narrating. You didn't see him. And i guess like when they were american kids like i like it but he sounds weird so what they did was they decided to make ringo actual Character in the show so they would put him in. Select the kids at a face at the name and they shrunken down to this little size. We all watched shining time station. As did you watch. I have never seen shining time station. Oh shining time. Station is magical. Is this with thomas. The tank engine. Yeah no that's terrifying. Nagy no is so cute. I haven't seen this war. But i'm sure it was q. I know what you're talking about. I just never watched it. I didn't even know it was on when we were children. I thought this was kind of a new thing. No i enjoyed you. Yeah great sorry. I liked it anyway. Well in nineteen five. Ringo got to share the stage with his son zach as part of the rock against apartheid see. His son became quite the talented drummer himself. Yeah but they actually had did not have a great relationship. Fortunately absentee dad begets absentee dad and he wasn't really much round for his kid. See booze we're gonna talk about a lot of red dad's guys like every per red dead city And like wrinkle even like ringo won't sugarcoat it. He's like i fucked up. I was not around for my kids. Acts like being son of ringo starr because i play drums but actually keith. Moon was his godfather. Yep and he taught him more than ringo. When keith moon teaches you more about drums than ringo starr. Ranko was very busy being drunk. I mean keith. I got nothing. Got nothing absolutely nothing england. I have no idea speaking of booze. It was in one thousand nine hundred eighty eight when things finally became too much for ringo in. Barbara's drinking problems see for years escalation after escalation. They drink too much argue and end up in slapping matches. They even got supported. They're doing that in public. And be really fucking slap sheller some nights ringo would blackout and trash the house. Yeah i mean that's when you have a fucking problem it's no longer just the problem. It's a fucking problem. That's when appreciating craft becomes a problem. That's when you're you're not a hobby anymore. lifestyle yeah. One incident was so bad when he came to. "Worry wanted all the band members to have different names in their birth names to make them stand out. But what do you call ritchie. Well it turns out it. Wasn't that hard to come up with a name. He was already sometimes known as rings. Because homeboy loved gems on his fingers like he just had rings for days hilarious. He's like it just looks real nice does it all work it does it. Ringo from dingle wrangled dingle ring. Does that ring to go. I love it. So i took that and added some floor of calling him ringo. Instead of just rings And star was quite the obvious since his last name was starkey right. So ringo starr was born i mean that is a pretty iconic name change really is like and one of the most fitting that i have ever seen. He's like you know what the thing here on out. He's earned goes star. He is no longer. Richard starkey that i feel like his personality probably always was ringo starr seriously.
