"Just trying not to think about it that much. My dad took me here and I slept in the car. It was just thinking about the game and then when I got here, I was just like trying to focus and just trying to feel comfortable because I was really nervous. And then once I stepped on the field, I felt better and I just was like, I felt comfortable with the teammates and I feel prepared for what the game was like what was gonna happen? A lot of expectation for ELISA Thompson. First high schooler selected in the NWSL draft. Youngest U.S. women's national team call up in 5 years. She's gonna be a star hurt. She's definitely gonna be a star. She sure look like it. I sat next to her dad at that game and as a father myself very proud look and everybody around just knew that there was a star in the making. Shout outs to the city. Still Riley. And in this rain storm, a rainbow from Riley. Riley comes in. Angel city on the floor. And you can see how much it means to ally Riley. And we now welcome on the

"Love them, but I'll never forget when poor Tommy cross had to come up and play in a playoff game and just because the bruins were so thin on defense. And so, you know, having Connor Clifton as your 7th D is pretty damn good. I mean, that is pretty damn good. And you know, when we look at the picks, I mean, the first round pick is, it should be a top in the 30s, right? So like, it's basically 32. Hopefully 32. So you're looking at a high second round pick, basically. They gave up. And it's a lot of picks, but if you think about if you hope that they're not done and you're going to maybe move Riley, Riley, I don't know, yields you a pick. It's not going to be a first or second, but it'll be a pick. So there will be some picks if they're not done. There will be some picks coming back. You know, we saw Keith kincaid get moved. I would have rather that have been for a pick rather than Shane Bowers, which I don't know much about and we'll get into that too, but no orloff is going to eat minutes. He's going to, he does what I, what I like, a lot of defensemen do, which lindholm does really well, which is push players to the outside. He doesn't let anybody inside. Each minute moves the puck up the ice. I think he's just what they need. And you know, like you said, trader Donnie's back at it. You know, last night, thunderbirds played Rochester, and I'm watching Anders Björk skate around. And I'm just like, can you believe we got Taylor hall for this guy? I mean, he played well, he gets three assists, they pounded the thunderbirds, but I'm looking at Anders bjorko and you got us Taylor hall. What a freaking steal. So I think we can look now there's a there's a pattern of success with these trades that he's made. And regardless of what we think of with the draft, the trades and quite frankly, the free agent signings as well have been absolute home runs and I think he's in a good spot and you said job security. I think Don Sweeney, he was on the hot seat, maybe last year, even the year before. Now I think he is getting comfortable putting the tray tables up and putting the seat back in its upright position because he's in a good spot. I'm not sure if you're a big fan of 2015. We talked about it. But I know that the listeners and the audio view was on YouTube.

"Not what our athletes i bet. There is a level of motivation that has to happen and sometimes it requires conversation. Question is how do you give that information to give that information in a way that is being heard in that in be absorbed by your ass fleet or is it terms that are awaiting that are angry that are threatening and co worship. That is a huge learning curve that we need to continue to educating our coaches on. And that's the whole coaching with care. Concept is really building the coaches terminology with positive framing and not negative franking and giving them to get aired on chip. Because we're gonna does their fifteen or twenty each game that's a paradise shift around. Yes and so. It's being heard by them and embracing that eric awesome. I love it. i love that. Everybody has their own mental health playbook from an athlete's perspective on a coach's perspective and that hurts my heart that those ladies came forward with you or softball soccer players because those are my sports i mean i never played softball but my daughter does and my heart is there now more than ever i learn more about the games for watching over the years than a mother of softball player should ever know but i love it and it's just super important and i grew up playing soccer or so and i look back and say that my favorite coach was a woman shared man. Full career my high school soccer coach. She treated us like humans. She really took on the importance of developing us as women as humans. Not just on the field. And i think that's important coaches are like teachers right. They have these humans in there in charge of these humans for this section of their lives for this time. And as you. And i both know a lot of the players. Go to their coaches for council for i break up with my girlfriend or my boyfriend or like things often field their build a relationship and there's a huge responsibility for that and so i think it's so great that you're able to address that i think the language is super important because i think you coercion. I think there's a way they can communicate and humiliate people especially if they don't know who they're speaking to. We got a close to the athlete coach to human right. There's not just one way to address the concepts of the tactics of their sport but also how you explain it. You got to adapt to the human in funny right and so. I think it's great that you're giving them tools to be able to do that. It's so funny. So in our crouching with era seminar we tell the coaches the very first is as creative paradigm. Shift that look at your student. Athletes as humans kursk athletes seven prepared shift. Huge i mean paul riley riley's older and then like after this came out the venezuelan women's national soccer team also came out by twenty four ladies from that team over the years the same coach. Mistreating them sexually harassing amusing. I mean do you think this is new betsy. Do you think this is a new thing or is it people coming out malik. What's your take on it. This kind of exploitation of the power dynamic between the coach and athens especially when it's a male coach and female athletes. There's a power already differentiation. There built in and then you add the coach athlete situation. Do you think this is new now and all. I think what's new is that our younger generation have been empowered thankfully have been empowered and educated. On what are appropriate boundaries. I think that they may not understand that. It's a mental health concept. I think that they understand is that we really got to a generation of educating not just girls bar guys too on trust your gut. It doesn't feel right. Talk to somebody. Where for urine my generation. It was tuck it up in navan or just off show could on your bigger appearance that kind of stuff and i'm sure there are times to do that but there are absolutely times when it's not okay and you know it does not steal right and we were taught to kind of push through that and not really address it but now the generations. Astra's us become. Wade moore introspective and may more aware of things bats in challenging authority. If it doesn't feel right if it doesn't feel right it's not a bad and even ing said walk. How long it co for this group of people to get it done even and i think batch why i say i don't think that they conceptualized it as a mental health issue. I think sometimes as centralize it as it benach right thing. It's not a thing. But i'm not sure that they conceptualized debts of where it goes and how it affects them and i think that's going to be ramifications that come for years absolutely absolutely. There are short term and long term clinical ramification psychologically physically for these women. I mean the fact that they've kept acquired this whole time. The shame that's being built up. You know the guilt the confusion of. You're supposed to trust someone your coach. Who's in charge of all these aspects but travel the team meetings meals all these spaces that are off and on the field where there could be misconduct is just ally in and asks you a question. Yes asked me. A question talked about the mail coach to female athlete. I've not done a lot of research on that. I'd be curious to hear. Kind of your thoughts were on that. Intrinsic gender power being intrinsic gender power dynamic is that we live in a male dominated society. We can see that in the jobs who gets what job with equal opportunity but not equal pay like i think sports are just a microcosm of the world right and so men have more access to things especially white men than women and then we bring in is it. A woman of color is a lgbtq. I plus identify women like there's so many levels of it and that kind of came up in the venezuelan women's national team situation with the mail coach sort of harassing and really abusing the lgbtq. I ladies on that.

"He's relatively new. It seems like he's been here for half a year. We got guys that have come in and and just bought into the culture. We got tray and a bunch of guys. Riley Riley is like my best friend and I love that guy. Um, it's just a culture thing, and it's something again. It's It's kind of like little league. You know, you're in here. You're with your boys are having a good time. You hit the practice field. You're grinding. You come back in your boys again. So, um, it really is a different culture going on here. Dave Talking with C J. You, Sam and Dave. I think he kind of gets lost in the shuffle. We certainly have spent a lot of time talking about Joe Burrow and his comeback and Trey Hopkins in his comeback. I think maybe some people forget just what CJ has gone through to get back to this point Tours Achilles. You know, I mean, that's a tough injury, tough injury to come back from rehab from and he played well blocked well. They used them as a full back on occasion as a lead blocker in that regard. In the course of fourth and Scotch 32 Yard reception was a massive play in the football game. But you're right, Joe Burrow from the A. C L M c, l and even a Little PCL. The terrible triad little damage their reconstruction that need to play like he played. Trey Hopkins struggled a little bit, Uh, the Minnesota Vikings did a good job of isolating him one on one and protections on Pierce. Pierce beat him a couple of times for sacks very rare for Trey Hopkins to give up two sacks. This scheme of the Vikings was very, very sharp, very smart, obviously. And, uh and then CJ Asama Joe Mixon coming back from injury to play like he played so Nick Cosgrave and all the guys in charge of the rehab of all these players take about because a lot of your rehab patients came back and performed exceptionally well right away, and we've got about a minute. And while the Bengals may not feature the tight end as much as other teams do, and they've got Joe Burrow and mix it in the trio of wide receivers. There is still a place for and ineffectiveness to be used with with CJ. Use Almond Andrew sample that that can be a weapon. Still. Well, what happened? Uh, got the Vikings defense off kilter a little bit. Bengals came out Joe Burrow under center running the football with two tight ends. And and the Minnesota Vikings were expecting three wives They were not expecting. You know, 12 personnel one running back to tight ends. That's room for a little bit of loop, particularly with Joe Bar Owners Center. And in the kind of, uh that was a wise move the way they wanted to run the ball with the frequency. They want to do it, then play action off the boots and things like that nature at all kind of mesh together very well. And it took the Minnesota Vikings a little while to adjust the little wrinkles and nuances that the Bengals had course The Vikings had theirs as well. And we'll talk about some of those still ahead. We'll hear from Logan Wilson, Brian Callahan, the Bengals offensive coordinator, Tee Higgins and much more. Dave Lapham. Lance McAllister. Thanks for hanging out with us on this Monday night, we are dissect. Thing, a win by the Bengals. In overtime against the Vikings. It's Bengals line on the first Star Logistics, Bengals.

"Ballpark buns on the Bengals radio network. Plain box filler with you, and it's the Cincinnati Bengals opening game against the Minnesota Vikings. End up Joe Burrow is looking forward to a big game today, and I tell you what Jonah Williams is going to help make that happen. He's coming into his third season and been entrusted. With the left side of that offensive line are Dan who had caught up with him and this week's walls. Business Solution Player interview. Jonah You are noticeably bigger this year based on training camp and 20 snaps and preseason games. Can you tell if bigger is better? And if so, why? I think so. I feel I feel good. It's hard to tell if that's due to technique or if that's you know the weight and strength helping out, but I think it's definitely been a good thing to put on a little bit of weight. It's not a huge sample size, but you were involved in 11 pass blocking snaps in the preseason games and did not allow any pressures, at least according to pro football focus. You're blocking against chase young on several of those plays. How do you feel? You did. I think I You know, I'm happy with how I played. But as a person who wants to get better, You know, that's what that's what we practiced for. And that's what the seasons for, Um, you know, so I think I did well, but I'm looking to get a little bit better. It's your third season. But really, it's your second because you were injured in year one. How much different do you feel going into this year than you did a year ago? I feel a lot different. I feel a lot better. Um, You know the game moves a little bit slower, as they say. I think it just takes a lot of game reps to start to get used to it. Um, you know, playing in the NFL is a big challenge, So the more experience you have and more comfortable year a going out there. Uh, you know, the more successful likely going to have we're chatting with Jonah Williams. So in Frank Pollock was brought back as the offensive line coach in early January. Did you guys talk over the phone? Did you meet? How did you begin forming relationship? Yeah, I was back here forbidden the off season. You know, just getting my knee signed off on and checked out everything like that from from the end of the season. You know, so I was able to see coach and talking, get a feel for how he operates. And you know what is you know what his attitude is like, and you know, really appreciate him as a coach and have enjoyed, you know all the time we spent together so far. In addition to having a new position coach, you've got a 10 year vet on the opposite side of the offensive line and Riley Reef. Is that almost like having another coach. Hey, it is, you know Riley's Riley's played a lot of football and he knows what he's talking about. So it's good to hear that, you know you have the coach perspective and, you know, obviously Coach Pollock also played in the NFL for for a while, So you have that inside and then you have Rallies played so long and you know, I'm playing next to Q and Quentin and we have trade too, so play next to a lot of guys and eggs will play a lot of football, So I think we're definitely an experience, you know, this year. Riley is roughly the same size as you are. He's not one of these 67 £340 kind of guys does that make his information even more helpful? I think so. For sure. Um, you know, I think there's similarities in our games and You know, obviously, like you said, in the in terms of just pure size, and that everything we're pretty close, So I think that it adds an element. You know, we kind of the same toolbox so He says something works for him. Then it's likely to work for me. I'm interested in your intel on a guy on the opposite side of the ball. Trey Hendrickson, who came in as a free agent 13.5 sacks last year, with the Saints to tie for second best in the NFL. You've had to block him a lot in training camp. What stands out You know, he's a He's a great player, and I think the thing that stands out most is his speed is upfield. Speed is ability to get upfield and put pressure on the tackle to, you know, give depth so you can protect And also his motor. You know, he's a guy who's going to keep on trying move, swiping hands, and even if you beat him on the first thing, he's going to keep on trying. And you know, I don't know any snaps. He's played, but it felt like every snap. I was watching the preseason was getting pressure. So Um, you know, it's been good battling with him all camp and I think we've made each other better. The last time we saw you last year on the field, it did not look good. I think most of us assumed that you had a torn A C l or something of that magnitude. When you went down in the Miami game, two games after Joe Burrows injury did you fear the worse at that time? I did, Uh, you know, I felt the same thing that you guys saw. I felt somebody flying into my knee from the side. You know, felt some issues in my knees, So I was pretty pretty happy to hear that. You know, when the MRI results came back that it wasn't as serious as I thought, so it allowed me to Go in the off season rehab it and then for the vast majority of the offseason. I've been 100% training at full speed, and I think that that's been beneficial to mine. Uh, growth this year, so you open against the Vikings. You're going to be matched up against one of the NFL's premier pass rushers in Daniel Hunter he missed last year the neck injury, But before that, back to back seasons of 14.5 sacks. You study these guys? What stands out about him? I think he's really balanced Russia. That's the first thing I noticed, is he, You know, he has a little bit of everything, and he's good. Everything he does is not just the speed guys, not just the power guy. It's not just the technique. I kind of You know, combines all of that, and he's a versatile player. Um, you know, that's that's the NFL every single week pretty much for playing a premier pass rusher. And so that that's the challenge for this week is to is to handle him and, you know I'm I feel good about this online room and I feel good going into practice that we're.

"And that's part of the reason why, because he had to learn how to catch the ball. So yeah, I'm fine giving gunner kind of a clock. I'm giving him a little bit longer rope, but the reality is, I don't know that the roster might not dictate that. You know, in a perfect world, gunner gets more time. But I don't know that the roster set up in that way. Right. So the last thing you got to element, first of all, I want to just quickly say and this is no offense whatsoever to why is Uber? I really don't mean any offense to him. But last night was the first time he showed anything in the pretext to too little too late. Too little too late for him, so I get that fans and watch the preseason finale last night, are gonna sit there and say, wow, why not Isaiah zuber? He looked really good last night. That was the first time he's looked really good in months, right? So that's why a lot of us are keeping Isaiah zuber off the roster. I still put him on the practice squad. Me too. And a really good guy to have on the practice squad because of his speed. So he can mimic certain, obviously, he's not jaylen waddle he's not Tyree kill. But at least on the practice squad, he is a guy that can run, right? And can sort of mimic those roles of patriots actually tend to give those guys a running start when they're mimicking a tire a kill, so they'll actually stardom kind of like arena football. Where they start ten yards back and I thought it was the other thing. I thought they'd let him start 5 yards downfield. So whichever one it is, they give him a head start. I know that. I don't know which direction. So Christian wilkerson, I think they're probably going to lose on waivers if they do not keep him on the team. But unless Nikhil Harry was going to get dealt, which now is getting murky because of his shoulder injury. I just don't know where the spot is for wilkerson unless you're going to talk me into cutting gunner and keeping Christian wilkerson, which I think is a stretch. Christian wilkerson to me, and I've made this comparison before is Riley rose's name Riley Riley McCARRON, Riley, was it McCARRON? He was a guy. He was a cyber receiver from was Mick Karen. Yeah. Rosie McCARRON, who he popped in that preseason. It actually like Wilson. He was with the team the season before on the practice guard. He popped in that preseason. We were like, oh, this is great. He can play special teams. He's a little bit of a receiver nice. And then he muffed a punt and fumbled the ball in his first game and he hasn't been on an NFL roster since. Wilkerson's a little further along than he is, I think. He's athletic, but it's the same thing where I'm not, have you cut gunner for wilkerson? That's a season long commitment. Right. I'm not there with wilkerson. If you can I already kill Harry and then bring wilkerson on and it's two or three weeks. That feels a little better..

"I mean three touchdowns can't be ignored. He got three touchdown passes to today. Against the falcons not against our defense. That's very the falcons are are discussing things very well for according to everybody that seen him to have a very different attitude and yet we burn them with shaheen so the i think our biggest question is we have a full running back room like you said and who's going to make the team We know for sure the top five guys you know who they are. I was convinced that we were on the day that the contract flipped for grant. And we're going to cut him because he's a big salary and all that money could go towards alignment or some other greater. Need not our. We thought our go to howard to supplement him. Yeah something else. Slide away man big props greer for really cutting a great deal with howard. Yeah i mean as a win win deal it is. I didn't like this shit. I mean i know. They talked after the season. We're going to renegotiate god. I just don't wanna go through this again. But i understand. I understand that they basically said if you can if you can stay healthy contribute. Yeah if you expect them to. Today i saw that tweet. that said What's his name near smoked x. for touchdown. Oh yeah yeah the from miami riley riley. Yeah and i said you guys don't understand. This is x. playing chess. He's baiting them into thinking that they can burn it for a touchdown and then during the actual game he's gonna get the pick a. I'm not concerned. I'm not concerned about him at all. zero. He's going to be good he's going to be out. There is going to perform It's going to help our defense. Our defense our to be top. Three in our office needs to be top fifteen for us after successful season. That's simplisafe that's a simple as get our office needs to contribute and i think our office will has to do better than last year. I think they will. I really believe we will. Let's be arizona offense not the denver. Yeah yeah i mean overall we do look so much that very much came down to the line and the blocking so and that's gonna be the same thing could not get comfortable back there beating him up in his face and yup and if we're the same thing happens we're going to see some really lousy games this year. One thing about brown is that he's known as a very good blocker. Well so maybe that's route comes in. Yeah we keep them back there to save two from being killed. Whatever works man. I mean you know if we exit with ws it's all good That's all that's all. I just just like mr david say upright with the w. yes when baby probably of the greatest lines ever really was Yeah so overall. I if we go back to our to our picks here i think our right. We see rumors is super exciting. The way it's gonna it's coming out I've never seen scott the speed that we have out there. I mean just. "Recently learned how experience to do. Yeah so what was your in riley riley imerese Buffet what was your working relationship like from a day to day perspective from i mean i'm assuming since all things pandemic sort of separated the world. You've you weren't exactly working together but you were working together to give it a park as as they say. How did how did that work. Yeah so i like. I knew this was gonna be a virtual internship so i did my best to set up a work plan. That would make sure that. We're in communication frequently. It's only a ten week program. There's only so much that you can accomplish in ten weeks so i made sure that we had meetings twice a week. Want to discuss What our goals are for the week. One meeting in the middle of the week to discuss what progress we've made what issues or challenges that we've been facing and Of course email or anything in between as needed And i tried to make sure that riley got exposure to our lab and meeting other people in our organization and to learn from them or real Figure out what corral is what crawl is all about and the other types of research that is being done there. So i made sure to set up seminars with her so she could learn from other people what they are doing Learn from what my like p is what my mentors were doing Kind of thing. I hopefully that That was enough like we we do. We could intend weeks but was kind of the goal to make sure that she got as much of a regular experience as she could in a virtual environment. That's wonderful to hear this The project manager for this program because that was a huge concern that we had that interns would get placed with mentors who not intentionally may have not had enough time or or weren't at the forefront of their minds and they look up and it'll be two weeks in like oh..
