"I'd love to start with you, Andy, you know, we like to start the program is always by asking people how they got here. How they developed an interest in this area, what their career looked like, bringing them up to this point. And I know you've worked in a variety of different areas. So I was wondering if you might spend a little bit of time talking about yourself and what you do. Sure, thanks. It's great to have the opportunity to talk with you today. I did a PhD in toxicology at the University of Illinois or banished champagne, where we studied the fate of super toxic natural products in animals. At the end of my PhD program, I looked around and I kind of knew what careers were like in academia because I'd spent a long time there. I didn't have much of an idea what careers would be like in industry. And I also didn't have any people to ask who had been in industry to find out what careers were like. So I took a leap of faith and went to work at a pharmaceutical company and Cincinnati. Doing human drug discovery and development for company called merrell Dow pharmaceuticals. I stayed there for a while, it's very interesting research, but they were part of a merger, mergers are probably okay for companies, but not great for people who want to do. Research and development are incredibly distracting. So in 1990, I joined Eli Lilly and Company as a senior pharmacologist in the drug metabolism group. It was a wonderful time for drug discovery and development. I had the opportunity to work on some new compounds for potential treatment of Alzheimer's and HIV, which at that time had no treatments. It diagnoses of HIV meant progression to aids and almost certain death. And so working in real time in the industry on a real problem where we could see faces of people who needed our intervention, working with government, working with academic leaders all competing in collaborating sort of at the same time to bring new medicines forward. Sort of unlock the passion for me in drug discovery and development. And I very much enjoyed that. It was a great time to do drug discovery and development and lowly is a fine company in 2017 after almost 30 years of the drug industry 28 years at lily. Lily offered a voluntary early retirement program to myself and others and that allowed us to potentially pursue other interests and for me coming to Indiana University after my retirement from Eli Lilly company and 30 year career in pharmaceutical industry, was a time to sort of corral some of the individuals that I worked with at Lilly. Bringing them together to teach drug discovery and development and we put together an innovative program on that. But also used their expertise to help assist academic researchers who might be interested in entrepreneurial aspects of drug discovery and development or device and development. Being able to come to the university and sort of share that information but also some of the basic processes around how you get started. What investors might be interested in, how to value innovation, and to do it with colleagues who had worked in the pharmaceutical industry, has been on tremendously rewarding return aspect for me over the last three and a half years. Well, that's great. And I'm looking forward to getting to that conversation, but I want to turn to John for a second and ask you the same question. How did you get here? How did your interests and sort of career to this point bring you here? Yeah, sure. Thank you. So my career path, I guess my educational path started in Virginia, my undergrad was at the University of Virginia, and the biomedical engineering program, which was just a wonderful opportunity for me. I got to do a lot with research and my focus at that time was really on nanotechnology and creating nanoparticles or nanofibers for targeted drug delivery to the body. And that was really what I focus on as an undergrad. I then went into medical school, eastern Virginia medical school. And I always knew that I wanted to go back and do more engineering and see if I could somehow bring these two worlds together. So engineers are great at problem solving, but they don't always have the same clinical perspective as clinicians do who are knee deep in this every day. And so I knew that I wanted to go back and as I went through my clinical training, go back and do some more with engineering and I had that opportunity as I came out to Indiana University for pediatrics residency at Riley hospital for children, had just a marvelous experience there, just some of the truly some of the best, I think, pediatrics training. You could ask for anywhere. And then as I was finishing and getting out and starting to look for a job opportunity, position opened up for me to join the group at Riley as a pediatric hospitalist. So that was a good fit for me. But at the same time, I met with an Anthos shaker who was at the time he was the head and director of the CTSI. And kind of made a pitch to him, I said, you know, as his clinicians, we have a very good perspective. We have a clear understanding of where the problems are where the holes are that need to be filled within medicine, right? Doctors and nurses, pharmacists, everybody who works as a clinician in any form has intimate knowledge of yes, the strengths of medicine, but also the limitations of medicine. But most clinicians don't have a tremendous amount of training in advanced problem solving and engineering and those kinds of things. And so you have the reverse problem. You have two different worlds. You have the engineers are great at problem solving and often have time to devote to solving problems, but don't necessarily know where the problems are that are most deserving of their attention and their energies. And then you have the reverse problem over with the clinicians who have a great deal of clinical experience. That's their job, right? But don't have necessarily a training and problem solving, but also most of the time don't have the time to devote to the kind of problem solving that those problems call for. Most of the Indiana University hospitals, central hospitals are on the IU PY campus, the Indiana University Purdue university of Indianapolis campus, right? And yet we tend to work in silos, right? We have our clinical world, and then across the campus, not even a quarter of a mile, we have, we have an engineering school with all this expertise, and yet it seems like these two worlds are kind of working operating in silos a little bit. And so the pitch presented to doctor shekhar at the time was to say, hey, could I come in as I see my role as a little bit of a bumblebee, right? My job is to cross pollinate a little bit between the doctors and the clinicians who know where the problems are over with the engineers who can do the problem solving. He really liked that idea. And so that created the position for me at the CTSI to get involved doing that. Starting in early 2021 with the creation of the device think tank, we were able to harness expertise from across the state. We have professors at Purdue. We have representatives from Notre-Dame, representatives from Indiana University, we have experts in, of course, an engineering. We have experts in FDA regulatory fairs, experts in business development, entrepreneurship and the like. And so I think the think tank is really a leap forward beyond what was offered originally by the CTSI to make this much more robust and to offer additional expertise, which is really needed. If you're going to truly get an idea beyond just the idea stage and all the way out into patient care, there's so many steps that are required and so I think that the think tank has been a marvelous invention to help with bridging that gap..

"Tony cats on the 93 wi PC mesh up, so they're expecting the FDA to give full approval of the Pfizer vaccine today. And as is being reported, Vivek Murphy, who is the surgeon general for the United States, says you might see mandates from businesses and schools because of it, Tony Katz 93 w I b C Good morning. This is ridiculous. I mean, let's go back to the nurses. For for a moment. You really think you're going to force nurses to take a vaccine that they don't want to take it? By the way? It's not a vaccine. It's an inoculation. What happens when teachers say I don't want to take it and the unions don't want to force teachers to take it. Which is one of the more unbelievable conversations because the force of mask on your kid what happens when they want to force a kid to take him? Well. I I must say that's when you're going to see people homeschooling aggressively. And I'm fine with that. I would rather I'm Tony Cats, by the way, 93 w I b c Good morning. Hey, how are you? I would rather schools be normal, but they don't want to be normal. These school boards aren't interested in being normal. They're not interested in data. They hate parents, Whether it's Hamilton, southeastern or caramel, You know, we don't have to open up our school board meetings for public comment. That's not in the bylaws. You hate the parents? Well, someone brought a gun. 100. People could have brought a gun. One gun slipped out of a guy's pocket. You're absolutely right. Still no reason for me to lose my right to speak to the school board. That's how terrible you are. Don't you get you're the problem. You're the wrong you're being ridiculous. Ha! Parents have gotten verbally. Uh they've been verbally rude. Holy cow step in my shoes for an hour. Someone said something you didn't like You're an elected official Quit. Don't tell me to pull my kid out of the school. I'm forced to pay for that nonsense garbage. You quit. I don't have to leave. You pick your lazy butt up and get out. We'll put someone in it was actually listening. And at least listens to science that shows that masks don't work, and they can create detriment to our child's education. The New York Times can can can engage in whatever self level of self fillet show they choose. They don't have the data. They've got this weird, weird fetish with masks the data? Uh, the facts as we know them tells us a completely different story and you school board members don't care. You're ridiculous. You want to see something? That's great. Check out the photos going around guys posted to my twitter feed. Send it to me at Tony Cats that people can see it. It's the picture of I think it's Hamilton Southeastern playing football. So if you go to school and Hamilton Southeastern, you have to wear a mask. But a couple hours later, there's a football game. Pakistan's no masks. Now Wait a second. If you tell me what ones inside ones outside. I thought the issue was six ft. Or is it three ft there shoulder to shoulder. Now I understand why people are going to start yelling at me now I'm giving them the idea that man, massive football games. They're going to try and blame this on me. Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm not the first person to bring this up. I just saw the photos. Post them post. Um, please. It's amazing. Amazing. You think they're going to demand that your kid get a vaccine and they can't come to school? Watch the homeschooling Watch the home school. Now, let me give you an example of of what I consider unacceptable reporting. No, I'm not mad. I'm just saying that this does not tell a story. This is over Wish TV Doctors at Riley Hospital for Children said last week that hospitalizations among Children are up. They said 70 kids tested positive for the coronavirus in just one week. But that doesn't mean that 70 kids were in the hospital. Look at how they read how they wrote it. Hospitalizations among Children are up, they said. 70 kids tested positive for the coronavirus in just one week how many of them were hospitalized? How many of them were asymptomatic. Answer the questions answer the questions. How much more on mass, including the story that should be broke, breaking all across the country. On masks and making parents change their mind. You, mark and Rob 93 wi PC measure. I need you. I'm not gonna rock Okay, member. Um, January 6th thing. What? That whole hullabaloo. And you mean when the Capitol police invited people into the carol there was some of that? Yes. Um, there was a lot of it. There was a lot of that. Yes, there were some There were some hooligans that kind of ruined the day for everybody. Um, but amazingly, according to Reuters, I think this came out on Friday. If I'm not mistaken. There was a Reuters piece that said that the FBI has not really found any evidence that the January six attack on the U. S Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overthrow the election results. You know, I saw that and I thought that's weird because I wasn't seeing it reported all over the place. Yeah, it's like that. You would think that that would be top news story everywhere. You know where I saw it. I think our our buddy Phil Sanchez from wish TV A. They had shared that story. Um, iShares news stories all the time, and I thought that's so weird. Because that was the whole premise. Yeah, of the insurrection, right? Right. And yet no one has been charged with insurrection. Trump isn't on Twitter they got they got some grandma for parading but no insurrection. And now there was no organized plot. Turns out it was just a bunch of individual maniacs who acted completely inappropriate and are being dealt with by the legal system. Exactly. And so now at this point And, you know, obviously they have investigated this at length. The FBI at this point believes the violence was not centrally coordinated by any far right groups or prominent supporters of then President Donald Trump. They're saying 90 to 95% of these are one off cases they have arrested more than 570 alleged participants. But even those that have been arrested. They're being you know, they're filing like conspiracy charges against 40. That's it, alleging that there may be that they engaged in some degree of planning. But even those groups, which they named the oath keepers and the proud boys, specifically, even those groups. There is no evidence to suggest that those groups even knew what they would do if they got in to the capital, so they were 40 of us go into the capital. But once they were there, it was kind of like every person for himself frayed and they engaged in various kinds of whatever it is that they engaged in..

"How did you find out that tatiana was gone. Did you get a phone call or go to her house. But my mother's intuition was kind of my book. I was at work and something told me. Something's wrong and i've learned from past experiences with one daughter that if i have those feelings this to follow them and i left work at two thirty. I got home at like three. Oh three and it real seven. My sister called me because my daughter's neighbor was my sister's friend. He said that's the only person that he knew to get a hold of. And my sister immediately as soon as i answered the phone she started screaming at me and yell. And who shot tatiana. Why is on show and this is a sick joke right. This is not real and then she puts neighbor on the phone with this. He told me that somebody had shot her in the baby so i drove out to our house and police had everything blocked off and of course whenever i found the first officer and i went up and ask about talk to you on. He said he didn't know who she was. And that kind of well it did. Make me mad. 'cause you guys are all our house. What do you mean. You don't know who she is. And then they told me that digs occur to riley hospital. personnel took my daughter to riley hospital. Because my daughter's twenty years old an officer went south to somebody and came back. And said i think you need to go to riley hospital and told me that the baby was taken to riley and that my daughter was taking eskenazi though left from hawaii street and went to riley hospital to baby and when i knew that she was stable and that no brain damage. That's whatever i went over to eskenazi to see about my daughter and of course it being a gunshot they wouldn't tell me nothing and i'm flat out. Tell him. I'm not leaving. Because i know that's my daughter. The cops telling me that they brought her here. And then i needed to come here. And they just kept referring to her as a john doe and finally they went and got the easy on and he came down with the doctor an hour later. Talk to me. And when i asked if they're all they would tell me you know it's to me. No i couldn't see. I went back over riley hospital tour baby. I stayed with her until the one i gave it to her. Dad do you get to see the grandbaby. I got to stay with her until they gave returned. That i mean you know. Don't let me get a video chat with her couple weeks ago. Will there is such thing as grandparent right so you do have rights to see your brand daughter. I mean. I don't know out for then. Yeah when i went to apply for it. I also apply for emergency custody. Well tried to apply for emergency custody and they flat out told me that because my daughter didn't have any open cases it would be considered a new family and that i would have to lawyer up. I just got legal services my job so they sent me a list of lawyers yesterday. What you gotta do you know. I mean i know you wanna see. That's the last piece that you have of your daughter. Its effect situation. That baby i strike. That baby is what keeps me fighting. I know my doctor's wishes. Yes her wish not fat to be anywhere around those people they were never around anyway the minute they found out on a date they brought her but somehow the never wanted nothing to do with her before. What's going on with the investigation. Now i mean how. How often do you contact the police for updates at least once a month. I'm reaching out to him and he said that he wants to stay consistent. Went me and reach out to me once a month. The last time i heard from him was marched before and he had said that they had thought that suspect number one was actually supposed to be the victim and that some people were after him because of the murder that was i feel is the reason. My daughter lost her life but for the murder. They think that he was kind of at fault for the other guy getting caught because he left at the scene and detectives think that of course people were out for him for leaving the guy and that my daughter was an innocent victim and all of this and he said that basically their cases at a standstill because nobody will speak no witnesses whatsoever. Nobody was speaking against these people. It's probably near people are scared of them. Yes it is. it's most fear. These are some violent scary people them and they're not gonna buddy to play with most likely that people that do not they do not need to be walking the street. I tell people all the time as long as you guys stay. Finally you get these cowards. With phones the power as long as people speak up. Nothing's ever gonna change. It might take some time sometimes. What happens is you know over time. People will maybe move away or there will be ex-girlfriends that want to get back at these guys. They'll be willing to talk later. I mean because it's still pretty fairly new. But i mean there is a couple of people that have spoke with me but will not go on record right because of them being inferior their life right. I've talked to other people have gone through the same thing where people have reached out. Tillman told them. This is who did whatever to child or your relative. But i can't go to the police with it. But i'm gonna tell you so that's not unusual either now. When tatyana died. I read that she was asleep. Was there anybody else in. That was at her house or she didn't live with. You did she. Yeah that was her house now. She had shit actually been on her own for nine months. Was there anybody number where she alone her just her and the baby but suspect number one is claiming that he was there and that he was asleep with her and we all know that she had actually quit talking to him and had him on the block list historic just doesn't make any sense. He his story to me that night was that he had won over there. And they smoke two blunts and went to sleep and slept through all forty seven rounds and did not like up until my daughter was pitching him telling him that she had been shot. He supposedly jumped up and put pressure on her wounds and then went to the neighbor and the neighbor that his phone with dead. He couldn't call the police so the neighbor called the police. But then of course after the fact that there are made it to the hospital. The third suspect ended up calling me and let me know that the guy had called her at two fifty nine. The call to the police was made it to fifty eight. So how is your phone. Did you couldn't call the police. The truth the call suspect number three. It makes no sense and then of course the fact that he had no blood but a small little line on his right knee and he was in all white clothing. I think white hat white shirt white pants white shoes and the only blood he had on was on his right knee. If you've seen that they're done to my daughter's room there is no way possible for anybody else had been in that room and not been hit. Her room got at the absolute worst. It was overkill. it's definitely overkill day. Wanted whoever in that house. They.

"Hey this is an idea. That has legs It began with it. Began with talking with people within my community who had experienced disruptive life events I also my youngest is a little guy moses and he has had to have a couple of open heart surgeries at riley hospital. Here in town He's doing really well but he'll need continued surgical intervention so between the loss mercy and moses condition and just the reality of like when you have something sad happened You tend to start hearing more stories. I started talking to people and asking them. What was your experience specifically in the workplace and there were a couple of people who said oh my gosh my workplace was great but a lot of people had these stories of i was missed and this way and the way that they dealt with my medical bills or my leave was so atrocious. I can't believe that that person said that..
