We Can No Longer Be 'Conservatives' in the Old Sense

"We are no longer conservatives. We are restorationists. This is the title of an article. I want to give credit. It's written by a fellow named John Gabriel, jail and John Gabriel, and published in ricochet, ricochet dot com, and it's a very short article, just a really a few paragraphs. But it kind of got me thinking, so I wanted to read from the article and comment on it. But John Gabriel begins by saying, essentially, who is a conservative? Quote conservatives of long struggle to define conservatism. Maybe it's a philosophy, maybe it's an attitude or a psychology. And then he quotes Lincoln. Lincoln was once asked about conservatism and Lincoln says somewhat Riley or whimsically, is it not adherence to the old and tried against the new and untried. So Lincoln here is making an argument that look if you've got a long body of empirical experience that shows that this custom this way of organizing society, this rule of thumb works well, why wouldn't you go with that over something where you have no idea if it's going to work? Why would you try something novel via novelty may seem appealing on the surface, but there's a good chance that that new approach will fail. And so what Lincoln is doing really is making the case for tradition.

"riley" Discussed on The Paul Finebaum Show

"And welcome back to the show. We've had great show already with Steve spurrier. In the first hour, we'll continue our preview of the big game Saturday between Georgia and Florida Connor, Riley joining us now, always cool to catch up with Connor. Connor, good afternoon, and what is going on in the land of the dogs as we get ready for Jacksonville. Good afternoon. Awesome. Thanks for having me on Paul yet. A lot of the excitement around this game, even maybe a little surprising given what lies ahead for Georgia the week after this. Yeah, I know there have been some oddities, but I can never remember and you're certainly much younger. A Georgia Florida game getting overshadowed in some ways. I know that they would take exception to that in Jacksonville with what is next week. I doubt seriously that's a problem for Kirby smart though. What has it been like as he gets ready to make the trip? No, yeah, Kirby smart. He even made this clear during the bi week, the focus is very much on the university of Florida and winning this game. We talked to players this week as well. They still recall losing to Florida in 2020 and having sort of that chip on your shoulder from that mentality there. So even though Georgia, big game against Tennessee, possibly the biggest game in the history of Sanford stadium in two weeks, they know that what this rivalry means, they know weird things have happened in this game before and I think they're going to be ready to go out there and take care of business on Saturday against Florida. And Connor with an eye to next week, Kirby smart addressed the injury situation to two of the dog's best players. What is the situation right now? Yeah, it doesn't sound like George is going to have either jaylen Carter or 80 Mitchell this Saturday and Carter obviously he's going to be a top ten pick next season, very important piece of that defensive line. But in beating both Florida and possibly Tennessee, I think 80 Mitchell might be more important just in terms of his ability to separate, get downfield to go up and catch a ball over a defensive back. And while Tennessee does have some pass defense issues, 80 Mitchell is the type of guy that this Georgia team just doesn't have elsewhere on its roster. And so if not playing them this week, potentially means that they get another chance to get healthy and get out there on the field against Tennessee. I think at that point this is what that's the way things are looking right now, but George is not going to have most likely it's best ride receiver and then obviously it's most talented defender this weekend with Jalen Carter not expected to play with a knee injury. And with both of them out, what difference do you see? I mean, I get maybe it's hard to tell against Vanderbilt, but against a quality team like Florida against an elite team like Tennessee. What is the difference between Georgia with those players in Georgia without them? Yeah, I mean, we'll start with Jalen Carter, Florida's got a really great rushing offense in having a guy like Jalen Carter, who was just able to blow plays up in the middle. It's gonna make wood theoretically make things more difficult for this Florida off guns to run the ball without that. They have some nice pieces on their defensive line, but they don't have a true game record like that in the middle of the defense. As far as no 80, Mitchell, they've been used to playing without him, you know, he's been out since it's really the second game of the season. And so I would expect in this game, you know, Florida a little bit more of an athletic secondary than what you've seen from auburn Vanderbilt in recent weeks. I think they're really gonna hammer the tight ends, Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington. I would say, look for them in both have big games as they have the ability to just take advantage and out athlete a, what is a promising Florida secondary, but has struggled at times this season. Connor, it seems like a strange season. I know we're at that really important juncture now after it seemed like an interminable run and I'll struggle to remember all the games in this stretch, but auburn and Vanderbilt and Missouri, I don't know how you could have even stayed awake covering the team, let alone the players paying attention, but what do we know about Georgia as we reach the 9th week of the season? Yeah, it's hard to say, I think they pretty clearly played their two best teams in weeks one and week three of this season. And granted both of those games were away from Sanford stadium in Oregon in South Carolina, but we haven't really seen that Georgia team. I mean, maybe we saw it against Vanderbilt, but I think the talent deferential is so great between those two teams. It's really hard to get a takeaway there, whereas Florida, Tennessee, these next few weeks, these are teams that have athletes that are capable of beating you. And so we're going to learn a lot about this Georgia team. I think from a mental standpoint this week, with just how focused they are, if they go in there and they get up to a big lead on Florida early and they take care of business. I think that's going to show you what this team is from a mental makeup standpoint. But if they go out there and they play with their food, like they did against Missouri earlier in the season and they turn this into a four quarter game, I think that lends credence to the thought that maybe some people are more worried about this team and again, I think we look through it this week. There have only been 6 times that there have been a repeat national champion in college football since the 1940s. What Georgia is trying to do is really hard. I mean, you play that many big games in a row as Georgia will over these next couple of weeks. It's very likely that you could possibly get tripped up, especially with that game against Tennessee who Tennessee looks as good as any team in the country does right now. Let's talk about stetson Bennett because there were the wonder or there was wondering and questions about him coming into the season. It seemed like that all dissipated very, very quickly and then it came back again. What's your assessment of him so far? Yeah, I think the stats and Bennett we've seen so far when he starts games off fast and in a rhythm.

15-Year-old Suspect in Custody in Shooting in Raleigh

"Gunmen killed at least 5 people in an off duty officer doing their rampage in Riley, North Carolina. These stories continue to persist. Now, I don't know what weapon was used. I don't see a weapon presented in the article that I have, probably because he may not have used a rifle. I believe when they use rifles or weapons of those natures, you hear it all the time because they're pushing a particular agenda. Now I don't know the forgotten man help me on this. You can text me if I'm wrong. But it doesn't appear that they've disclosed what type of weapon is 15 year old was using. However, he decided to open fire, shooting and killing multiple people, 29 year old, a 16 year old, a 51 year old, 49 year old and a 35 year old. And, you know, the questions that arise is how do we stop this from happening? Gun control and my opinion isn't the solution to the problem. Because they're going to just mow you that will drive over you. I'll pull out a knife and start stabbing and killing people and want killing one person is enough. That's too much. Because if that one person is your dad, you're not going to say, well, he at least didn't kill 15 people. He only killed one, but he killed your father. He killed your mother, your child. One senseless death is too many. How do we stop these things from happening? Ladies and gentlemen, you can't catch it on the back end. You can't say it can't just be enough to say if you kill 15 people you go to jail. That's not going to deter anybody because they don't care about living. So they definitely don't care about going to prison forever. And some of them kill themselves or they get into an altercation with police they die and they move on. With no consequences to know, you know, they don't care. So you can't catch it on the back end and think that's a solution to the problem. You can't say, oh, if we ban guns, it means too many guns out there. You ain't gonna stop it. You ain't gonna stop it from getting guns. I don't care how hard you think you make it. It don't matter. If the kid gets access to a gun two years later, he gonna commence to shooting people.

"Jordan Davis is not a good matchup against an Alabama team that wants to get the ball out quick and swore the ball around. Against the Michigan team that wants to be more grounded pound. I think that plays into him being on the field more and having a bigger impact on that game. And so having said all that with the front 7 that Georgia has and Michigan not being a prolific passing offense, I think that plays into the Georgia defense getting right. And on top of all that, it's a very proud group of Georgia defenders that know they didn't play their best and are going to be anxious to get out there and prove that, hey, what you saw the first 12 games of the season, that's the difference that we are not the one that showed up against Alabama. So do they have, let's say they beat Michigan, Alabama beat Cincinnati, they're both favored to win. They rematch. What is give me some evidence that says that the game plan Kirby smart can game plan around Bryce young and jamison Williams. Well, I think no mechie is actually a really big factor in that just because obviously Alabama has great younger receivers, but they're not necessarily proven in the same way that John met you was. And so you feel a little bit more comfortable saying, hey, we're going to trust our corners to man up. And obviously we're going to have to do something special with Williams because his speed just makes him so difficult to defend. But I think the no match he makes it a little bit easier to say, I've got to trust Mike or backs to press band coverage and do that and again you came out and you tried to play his own and the numbers with bright young stone defenses all season he has picked them apart. So you've already shown that, okay, we have done this zone sort of attack in terms of trying to limit them. And they just flat out didn't work. So I think from a defensive standpoint, you just have to do it auburn did. And I know it's risky because as our last year in 2020, if you want to play press man coverage against really great receivers in college nowadays, go ahead. More often than not, you're going to lose. And I absolutely do take that play day fact of the 2020 game and now how Georgia went about defensively game planning for 2021. On the offensive side of the ball for Georgia in a rematch, they've got to be better on third down. I think they went 312 of that game and it's got to be better in the red zone. First three quarters, they have four trips in the red zone, ten points. That's just not good enough. Second Ben had an interception in the red zone, get an interception return for a touchdown. I set some beta didn't lose order to that game against Alabama but the problem was he wasn't good enough to bring Georgia back when out when the poll dogs finally started getting some stops there in the second half. Yeah, he didn't cost them the game. He didn't lose to Alabama, but he had an opportunity to win it and couldn't get those to make those plays. So I agree with you there. Connor Riley dog nation. Thank you so much, man. Have a great holiday. We appreciate it. Thanks for giving us some time. Awesome. Thanks, Brad and Merry Christmas to you and all. Yeah, absolutely you too. Connor Riley there for dog nation. Yeah, can't play zone against Bryce young. That is for sure. There's no question about that. The problem is, is then you're playing man to man against jamison Williams. So we'll dive into these matchups a little bit we'll take some calls as well because I do think while Michigan is a very, very worthy adversary to Georgia and to Alabama, I do agree with Connor that the matchups.

"With kids and you've got a chance riley we'll see you again. Yes thank you and that is why we talk things mental health as much as we can on this podcast. See you never know what people are going through like. I knew that amber within the past few years have become very open about anxiety and depression for her really going into detail of what at rock bottom looked like for her and then i appreciate how she was honest enough to still say she still grieving the loss of two people close to her and that she even says she lost four more. We gotta be real. We gotta be honest about where we are and how we're handling grief and as long as we're getting through we gotta get through the grief though we gotta get through it. You never stop missing person at miss. Moffat i miss my grandmother. She passed away in twenty nine and those were our two major losses and so i'm just thankful for her honesty so thankful for her transparency and i love how she also said. Give yourself a chance. And give god a chance to continue working on you n. Just noel guide is going to bring you through. "Which you know really helped me in my career in a lot of ways. Get getting a lot of other roles He gave me my first sort of like big lead in a television series And he's extremely supportive in so many other ways you know like he came and watched ni- directed film with my partner and he came to the edit and watched a cut like he's very supportive. He so supportive of young filmmakers. Knew filmmakers Just amazing that way. Isn't it a heated. The podcast pretty recently. And if you'll get his red like the resume. It's all the most eclectic filmmaking resume personal but then you see things like wait. He was like the second unit director on hunger games. Just like what you spent spent like four hours five hours with us while he's cutting something else you know what i mean and i'm like wow. He's just incredibly supportive and loves films so much it. it's it's in. It's yeah it's i feel very blessed to have cross past stephen kind of him supporting my career. Pretty good guardian angel to have so looking ahead We mentioned terminal lists. You're pretty something with your buddy. I think dakota right to johnston human beings We've been friends since we were fifteen and you know. We both started acting the same year. I think we went on. Our additions are very first editions. I think months apart. I think we booked our very first movies like a month apart or something and so it was always like a no brainer. Essentially we're gonna find something together to do and so we're developing this tv. Show that i'm so excited about it. The more the more. I just love working with people i love. You know. it's all about in the end. Yeah she's one of my favorite human beings Sees know her dark twisted sense of humor that she would you rather With you ever. Because i had her on my comedy central nervous. Everything i've done. Would you rather sorry. I never have i ever would you rather because i so i played a game. Would you rather with her. And she was like one. I had a bunch of. Would you rather questions. And she threw about ten at me. One of which vast every guest on my show since i'm going to pose it to you because it's she asked me would you rather have a mouthful of bees or one be in your but oh my gosh the coda one being my but are you kidding. Yeah no that's the right answer. Say think you know you're you're correct. Correct that is the objective. Correct down okay. And then finally okay. So what we mentioned mad max. I'm just curious again. Just going back to childhood have be interested in fantasy genre and stuff again. I'm surprised you haven't end up in the pop culture that has dominated by superheroes and sci fi and fantasy like what's going on. Are you pursuing. That stuff is there. Is there one of those properties that really speaks to you today. i absolutely would win Do that would Venture into the superhero world. I it for me. It's just it's timing it's it. Is this what. I wanna do right now. It's always kind of spiritual thing. It's something in me that i want to explore. And if the rate you know role ended up coming to me. I absolutely would do that. i think you know it's i've played a lot of you know i think in the in the beginning of my career. I definitely got sort of put in this very extreme art house you know box and i and i love arts gnomes. Of course i. I love al-shams i love. I love broad comedy. I love you know harry potter. You know but. I definitely i think from the exterior world. Have this sort of art house thing where you know people. Can't you know i don't know. I think people assume that. I kind of only would ever want to do cans films or something but i i you know i. I definitely don't feel that way. We're putting it out into the universe. Okay she's open to everything because yeah it's it's I mean. I love talking to someone. Who's work i admire. But also someone who who's obviously a just loves what they do and is a sinophile themselves so glad zoa gave us an excuse to connect in this way on. Congratulations on it. Congratulations on finally getting to the finish. Line the pandemic couldn't couldn't put this one down. We're finally getting it and hopefully we'll talk a bunch more about zillions of the projects. "Some of the magic's already gone because things are working. I was recently watching a movie with my little sisters in their twelve. And there were like i was like. Oh you know how they do that and they were like. I don't wanna hear it. I don't wanna do that. And i was telling you explaining how they're doing all the effects and you know And i realize like with harry potter. I sort of still have this Sort of they're still this sort of a disconnect for me and it felt like because i grew up with it i it was kind of one of the only only films that i still had this. There's ican and going to the the sets kind of ruined it a little bit. You know and i kind of wish. I didn't but also is amazing to see like you know how epic they were or how the What about the film's what's your favorite of the films. This is hard. I'm always. I'm always i kind of go through phases where i'll watch one two three four go all the way up and then i'll start over and i'll just keep redick now. All of them. I love the first one just because of the childhood nostalgia. The third one was for a long time. My favorite Let's the koran one. Of course your fires. And then as i got older i loved the The half blood Half blood prints That was really emotional. I love god prisoner. Ask van though is was probably. That was probably the first one that i was like. Whoa this is. This is cool it will it certainly yes. They the world building that chris columbus was able to do in the first to end the casting major props for those two but clearly the third one kind of like elevated the film making the craft. It's kind of like another level. Total on the other they all and they hold up in their perennials. Now they're classics Have you with any of the principal actors. Have you crossed hassle. Okay fine fact. I did in got devil all the times. I've been double time. I worked with the actor. That plays dudley. Oh is it Is that matthew snow is. It's don't put this thing. Because i can't betray you as a poser of harry potter harry. His name terry. So is that a moment that you confess your harry potter obsessional. I didn't recognize him at first. I didn't recognize him because he's much older. He looks very different. Emma i didn't. He's like a very serious actor in. He was very much in character night. Didn't like i didn't want to geek out. You know because i run his. You know like you know he. Obviously i'm sure they get that so often now and very serious film set playing these very serious characters But i definitely was having this moment of like when i realized it was him. Oh god i told my husband. He was onset he was like. That's crazy. I totally get star struck by them. I saw emma watson once an event. And i think she came up to me and i think she said hi and i think i just froze it. Sounds like the way you're recounting. It sounds like you blacked out. You don't even blacked out. And i think she kind of knew who. I was or something i don't know she said hi. Maybe she didn't know who i was. But i was like just like couldn't couldn't handle. It is bizarre how well adjusted those. Those i don't know what lottery they hit with those actors but those key actors. They're all like great human beings to an amazing to see how they've grown up. Did the the timing of fantastic beasts worked for you ever go up for a role did were you. Did you say to team keough me in. There actually did audition fantastic beasts. I did I was shooting the girlfriend experience at the time. And i probably didn't prep enough. 'cause i i remember they called me in and i was shooting a girlfriend experience and i think ahead like a night and had to go. Fly there the next day and fly back for the audition and I didn't get it. Obviously but but i you know i wish in hindsight i had more time to prepare because i was kind of like i gotta go do it even though i have no time i need to do it. It's funny that like you know you talk about growing up with fantasy and sci fi in all this kind of escape stuff again. I look at the the resume. And i love so much you've done but like when you look at genre stuff it's like i mean you've done one of very significant note fury road. Which is the movie that comes up on this podcast more than any other movie because shit. I mean come on like stone cold genius. Yeah i did a thing with actually george. Just a few months ago for the fifth anniversary. We we Yeah it was pretty as you know. He's just a special special man. Can we dive into that a bit because just endlessly fascinated by that whole experience. It is so unique in every respect of what he was able to do Just from the audition process. Did you know immediately. Like the guy's this guy's at a different operating different frequency than the rest of us. George miller i mean it must have my very first audition was just with casting director and you had to choose from four monologues and one was kind of I can't remember what they were but they were all epic monologues from you know epic films and it was like network and you know it was like it wasn't it wasn't like silly stuff and and you kind of could choose and at the time i didn't really understand what they were doing. I didn't know there were five wives. I didn't know any of that. But i chose the one you know there was one that was kind of Comedic there was one that was emotional. There was one that was You know there was different options and they let you choose the one that i chose. I can't remember the monologue but it was like a very it was firm mail. It was for a man. And i it was a very sort of like strong Mail piece you know. And i was to go for this one because i just feel like nobody else's that's kinda was my attack. One of them was like erin brockovich. I think and Yeah and so. I did the audition. And then i got a call back with the casting director and then they said they're gonna fly you to australia to do this. Sort of mix and match because there's five characters they don't meaning to see whatever So they put you know five girls. They did rounds and rounds of this. Where like five girls would be kind of going through his acting. Workshop with georgia's friend nico and so we would you know they mixed me up with five girls And we had this whole week of kind of drama school essentially and the last day george came in and watch us and a lot of it was improv. a lot of it was it was non scripted. It was you know giving us scenarios giving us things to get into arguments about and Improvisational stuff and we kind of went home. Not knowing if any of us would get it you know it wasn't. It wasn't like a done deal kind of thing and then i think about a week later. They said okay You're gonna officially off offering your plane capable. And i was like okay. I didn't know what that meant at. All you know. And i was like okay and then the next year in namibia the and then slowly i think zoe was already cast And then rosie was cast. After me i believe. And then lastly was. They continued those sort of workshops and then Agian courtney the last you and you know he so thoughtful. It's not. there's no mistake that everything. Once we started He would just send these long voice notes If i just send him a message what do you think about this. Something so quickly could be answered with a short email. He would respond about a day later. And send me like a forty five minute voice note about answering this question and be like you know so much information once we got there you know. It was very apparent that it was a different experience to your general sort of studio film we landed. We had extensive acting workshops extensive working with yvonne's ler movement coach So much so much Prep and you know You'd kind of be like. Oh these like five girls are in the back of the van in the back of the van the back of a truck. And you know you wouldn't assume like how much work done on our characters and and on every single detail that my goggles my hair color my outfit. My shoes my everything like george. There's not one detail inside the rig. There's you know if you're in there which we were for six months there's every little there's everything every detail in the truck george knows about and george put there for a reason you know naggar and you're you're like what you know and then he's like..

"With the very talented riley riley keough welcome to the happy second fused on cast at long last. I'm so happy to be here. Are you in the middle of a working. Obviously not literally at this moment but are you terminal listing. that's my best guess. I am terminal listing. I'm zola pressing listing. This in time. I feel like i'm doing early. Press for terminal west. 'cause i just did constance on the podcast a couple of weeks ago and talking to the monster. That is chris pratt in a couple of days so If we wanted we can just start the press tour early on that one Chris pratt might be the most annoyingly Good human being on the planet. Have you enjoyed your time. Thus far with him. I really have. He's incredible he's he's one of the nicest people i've ever met in. It's so inspiring. Truly no do you want to rattle him. I i've i've a gift for you. If you wanna try to like throw him off his game okay. So try so next time you see him. Maybe he's divulge bulge issue. But i don't. He says he's told us many. Call him christo or have you ever considered going by christo. Back story is apparently when he worked at the bubba gump shrimp company before he hit it. Big he Seriously considered going by cristo and that was on his name tag and it. It amuses me to no end that we almost had christo as the science so i wonder where that came. I will ask him. I but let me know how it goes. Because i want you to. I want you to have the upper hand. Will i will do it So congratulations on zola. We're gonna get into that. We obviously have some time so we can talk about just a great many things but First off again. It's good to talk to you at length today. Because i've only talked to these kind of brief kind of weird circumstances. Most recently i saw you at the mtv movie. Intangible words which was surreal for me. How was that night for you. It was very surreal and very cool. I you know there's something very. It's a childhood dream to be on. You know the mtv movie awards mtv music awards it's iga grow up watching it so it was It was my first time at the mtv movie awards and so it was definitely a sort of ethic moment. Our our you generally with those sorts of events The award show the big press events the premier's that your wheelhouse or do you feel like it takes a lot to get you into the into the zone for those kinds of things. I do my best. I think it's you know Mtv it really depends on what it is you know like. Mtv there's it's it's spun it's it's not you don't take yourself too seriously you know it's not the oscars you can't not mess up you know there's not as much pressure So i think i definitely would be more nervous if it was something that was more serious or you know like some very When you're gonna remove just film critics or you know those kind of. I don't know what you're talking about the movie and tv awards. The most prestigious are there other more precision shows. I don't know what you're even talking about right now. I love it. I myself at mtv totally totally What about general comfort levels. I mean i'm such a fan of your work in all the stuff you popped in mostly in the last decade and like you know you seem like an actor that's willing to go for broke. That's not not shy about sort of like taking big chances. Do you feel like most yourself or most comfortable on a set or in front of a camera. It seems like you for whatever reason when the the light turns on. You're able to go to places that maybe you're not able to otherwise absolutely. I think that that's the sort of The the thing you keep going back for is that. I feel the most comfortable the most of the lease limitations and most free when performing. And i think that's how you know that that sort of you're saying I of course there's moments him nervous and you know All of that. I i don't i never you know i get nervous more with Par- probably like public speaking that kind of thing. I when it's me when it's riley go you know like but in terms of acting Is made it so liberating so freeing so fun like you know being a child playing in your backyard like that kind of feeling right now. It's funny you say that. Because like when i was even like an i wanted to talk to you on the podcast for a bit and just finding the head of the right film and the right project But like when. I went back to kind of look at you know other conversations you've done like i can't find much that you've done like long form like solo chats. Is that something that has taken you kind of a while and even now. Hopefully you're not nervous right now but like is it feel like it's it took you a while to kind of to get comfortable with the side of the of the job you know. I love like intimate conversation. I love that. I love when when you're able to connect and have a real authentic conversation A lot of the time. When you're doing press you have like three minutes and it's now or questions and you don't really have a moment to connect and you know i've definitely new kind of end up learning how to do that and i appreciate all of it you know i really appreciate the whole the whole The whole thing. And i think that gratitude makes you know even the moments of press when you're like okay. Another one and another one another one. I think you can try and stop and be present and be thankful that the reason we're doing press our movies people are excited about it and it's this beautiful piece in the world's gonna launch it and i'm.

Yes even soda. Bergen her go back a ways. She appeared in magic. Mike and logan lucky in the girlfriend experience on television so he is clearly a key Influence on her career. And that's not a bad one to have but also you know A a lot of very works for riley and always working with great filmmakers The the film. It comes at night a few years. Back american honey from andrea arnold mad max fury road. I never know what to expect from riley and i love that about her. Her new film certainly fits that category. You do not know what you're getting in floor with zoa but here here's just a little a little taste of it. This was the maybe the most buzzed about film at sundance. a year. plus ago when i was there And it is based on in fact a very infamous twitter thread and as i describe it like riley kind of plays this agent of chaos. She's a sex worker who embroils of zoa like the the main character into a wild kind of adventure over a couple of days A bit of a road trip. It takes many unexpected turns and it is Brilliantly shot at photographed and features a host of great performances from top to bottom and And that's really all you need or should should need to know going in. I highly recommend zoa. I've seen it a couple times and that it definitely makes an impact and riley's performances just like electric. She jumps off the screen so really thrilling to get a chance to get to know riley a bit more. I saw her Just a few weeks back at the mtv movie and tv awards in the flash and human. That was weird but it was good to see her. And now on my on the zoom box on my screen so and not to mention. She's big harry potter geek. And that was her comfort movie. "Is Quite a couple of friends that know what what's friends a cold but apparently three of them On the lightest spot video jumping ripe size. What's holding the ripe and spot is skipping for those interested in spot. I are now on sale and you can pick one up for about seventy five thousand dollars. he also in wicklow in auckland. A couple of hikers were out and i came across. A golden retriever was a little worse for wear a took it home. Some food looked up. The ona and found out that nishida had been missing for about two weeks after. Apparently chasing after a dea in not coming back a all heavily reunited now now for this week's interview a welcome to the relaxed dog. Podcasts i m here with sean dustin how i'm doing well thank you. Thank you for having me on right. The year i saw post or no. I think you friend requested me. Or somehow i ran ran across to. I'm like you. Assad share the dog podcast. Oh that's interesting. And i dove in and i want to be on. That always a pleasure to have interesting guests. Lock yourself on more interesting dog so understand. we're gonna be talking about riley. Yeah my boy. My boy As usual going to ask you to go back in time to just before you met raleigh and talk us through the house in wide that you guys got together so me and my or my accent myself. We balls when we got together. She has got a Black lab from a breeder was kind of a big breeder We went up and got him and are her and everybody year into it. We realized that it's like you know. I feel bad for her because she spent so much time alone. You know because we were at work. We'd have you know someone that would come in and take her out. And i was like well. Why don't we just in another one was another that way. She's got somebody to play with. And you know keep the occupiers wouldn't be we're busy doing whatever. And so he's my girlfriend. Started looking around and We didn't wanna get a regular another black one And she found a breeder that breeds charcoal labs so the dilutes. So they're not the blacks or not the charter of chocolate. Or they're completely different color and they're pretty. They're becoming more popular but they're kind of rare Because he's like he's has coloring is inbetween gun metal grey and pewter in the sun. He's got a chocolate era destined to him. So it's almost like chocolate sheen as yeah. It's really beautiful. And we see we decided on. A breeder was local. One we found and we went picked him out online and we were going to meet him at. The breeders plays does a do that. There was a small breeder. They did it they Had a litter probably one or once or twice a year which is in my opinion. The best way to do it Because when you get home from larger breeders that are turning them out with females they all. They seem to have problems though he did Are black ones. She had a lot of allergies and a lot of other things from this bigger breeder so to me that was a sign that they over bred. The female. And i was lucky enough in the we've found is the smaller one and it was funny because the picture that we i saw remember. I said it's charcoal. He looks like he's chocolate brown. Any he wasn't very wasn't very good looking puppy. Right is i just looked weird like this little fuzzball and i'm like i don't know it can turn out to be a handsome dog or if it's funny lookin' but anyways we ended up after six weeks Went up probably about a three hour drive each way to go. Pick him up And i've never had a dog imprint on me the way that this dog has. I've never had a relationship with the with an animal Quite like i've had with this one and for people that don't like or say don't like dogs but don't understand the connection between a man or just people human in the dog. It doesn't mean you have to be man just a human connection with with a dog and when they imprint on you the right way and all the stars are aligned with the joy that this dog brings me. I can't put into words. You know the win. When i about and this one's a hard one because i try not to think about it. But he's like my son ears me a understands me one hundred percent. He's super obedient. It's like. I just tell him what to do. And he does it. And i feel like he's talking back to me to just in the mannerisms and the in the little head corkery things that they do. I mean we're communicating. I don't care what you say We're talking. I mean you you know what i mean. And people don't understand that that it's like no no he. He's not a dog. I refer to him as as a person. And when i talk about my my dog and my daughter i always say.

Assad raleigh sean dustin this week about seventy five thousand do once one hundred percent each three one twice a year auckland riley One hikers about two weeks after about a three hour after couple of friends six

"Obviously if you're a kid like that's given the old like thirty handicapped reverse loop way top. That bar doesn't pass exactly. You know we can fit into a swing in the eventually and this is where you know has been my focus. The last few years is eventually you get to a place where is good enough. Learn a skill learned the skills and don't worry about. It's not a technical problem. It's a skillset problem and too many people try and find some technical move. That's gonna make the magic button go. That's okay now. Want to shoot sixty two. No no no no no. That's not how and so anyways moving from that junior golf's behind you said you've had a heck of a run. You are now committed a western kentucky so talk to us about recruitment because your recruitment has gone through by three different. Ncwa rules changes pandemic. I mean talk about that journey because it was probably not the easiest road trying to figure out college not at all. I mean. I started out young whenever i was in a freshman or sophomore and i was thinking about college and where i wanted to play. You know. of course you always think of like i wanted to go to stanford ever since like fifth grade. They have the best golf team. I mean best golf coach. Whatever sure and whenever all the rule all the years and rules and all this stuff came. I didn't even know i mean i had asked you. It was like So can i talk to college coaches. You have to call them or something like okay. I was like junior and that was whenever the rules changed whenever it was like you. Can't they talk to you until june timber. And i was like okay. Let's right around my birthday. Maybe i'll get some good luck right but it was just like putting yourself out there. You can't you can't play golf and expect them to if you're especially if you're playing locally you can't expect people from alabama to be looking at you and i that you're not like the next tiger woods just from nashville so you have to put yourself out there. And that's kind of what i did. I mean i talked to fifty different college coaches and just putting myself out there and saying. Hey i'm riley. I'm really interested in playing college golf. I think i've enough talent to be on your team would you consider me and just. Here's my scores. Here's the next tournaments. I'm planning think that's the main key of like looking giving them enough information to be able to follow you. Stay along with you. But not applying too much pressure but i think the hardest part was my recruitment process was telling coaches that i'd committed somewhere else but i. I just ever. Every coach. That i talked to was all about me and i mean i was. I was more than grateful. I was like. Wow you're actually gonna let me come visit and get me a hotel room and all this stuff you know doing everything for me and making me feel at home but the hardest thing was saying. Hey i loved your school. I loved your visit i love. I love your golf team. But this place is right for me And i think that's the main key i would tell anyone else is understand that they're happy for you no matter where you go and all they want is for you to find and hopefully i mean you find their school best and where you wanna live..
