"Dot com. That Tuesday morning one 40 on WTO welcome in. As the House committee investigating the January 6th capitol attack, preps for its public hearing coming this week, there is some controversy this morning surrounding former Virginia Republican congressman Denver riggleman. It's all over something he revealed on 60 minutes this past weekend. His committee investigative work showed that there was a 9 second phone call connected from The White House switchboard to one of the capital riot defendants on January 6th and that revelation has made some noise as the committee prepares for this next hearing Wednesday. They're not rebutting anything that riggleman said, but they're arguing that he's been gone from the committee for half a year and is not up to speed on their latest investigative status that things have evolved since then. We'll find out how so and how much so Wednesday at one. That was CBS News congressional correspondent Scott mcfarlane for us. Tuesday morning committee chairman Benny Thompson has said the panel intends to put together an interim report on its investigation come mid October. They all meet this week in the midst of some controversy over revelations made by a former Virginia congressman who had advised the panel. And another major trial in connection with January 6th is set to begin this week. She has news congressional correspondent Scott mcfarlane joined as just a little earlier with more about what's coming up in this week. This committee had gone quiet over the last 6 weeks as they resumed their behind the scenes investigations and they're not quiet any longer. The next public hearing is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday. Still no announcement or final decision necessarily about whether to have witnesses testify, but the committee is promising revelations that they haven't yet shown. And they say they've been getting significant cooperation from the U.S. Secret Service and have 800,000 pages of records correspondence records from the U.S. Secret Service around January 6th. It's possible the service is a key component of this key hearing. Then there's the issue of Denver riggleman. The former Virginia Republican congressman and former committee staff investigator who has a new book and on 60 minutes made a few revelations of his own that his committee investigative work showed that there was a 9 second phone call connected from The White House switchboard to one of the capital riot defendants on January 6th and that revelation has made some noise today as the committee prepares for this next hearing Wednesday. Committee members are saying that don't necessarily believe rigelman or what are they saying exactly about that? That's a good question to be true. They're not rebutting anything that Brigham said, but they're arguing that he's been gone from the committee for half a year and is not up to speed on their latest investigative status that things have evolved since then. We'll find out how so and how much so Wednesday at one. So we have one of the biggest trials in connection with January 6th, getting underway this week. Tell us about that. Members of the panel push back. That's one of thousands of details that obviously the committee is aware of. Arguing riggleman, a one time Republican congressman departed the committee staff in April and has limited knowledge of the panel's investigation, and without the advantage of the additional information we've gathered since he left the committee, I think posted real risk to be suggesting things. This weekend members of the committee also leveled criticism at the Department of Justice for the pace of its investigation and for asking the committee for its records. My first reaction when we got the request turned over all your files to us was, why don't you have your own damn files? You know, why haven't you been conducting your own investigation? "Example, the data revealed 5 calls in the weeks before January 6th between The White House and this woman. We are the storm. A stop the steel activist named Bianca Gracia. The committee obtained this video from the evening of January 5th, Gracia was part of a clandestine meeting with the heads of the Proud Boys and oath keepers. The paramilitary groups that would breach the capital the next day. And, you know, when you have The White House switchboard and certain other cell phone numbers connected to Bianca Garcia, that is a link that needs to be investigated. The thread that needs to be pulled is identifying all The White House numbers and why we have certain specific people why they were talking to The White House. Specific White House phone records are kept secret to protect every administration. But in his book the breach, riggleman wrote he begged the committee to push harder to identify numbers that showed up on the monster. That was one of those individuals sadly at the beginning, you know, where I was very, very aggressive about these linked connections, getting those White House phone numbers. Did you express those concerns to the committee at the time? Yes. What was the response? The response was go forth and just do the best you can with the resources that we have. Riggleman requested 3.2 $1 million, but only received a fraction of that. His team furrowed into the data. The mother lode dropped into their laps, not just phone records, but more than 2000 actual texts to and from Mark Meadows, former president Trump's chief of staff. There were numbers but no names, so riggleman told us his team made a giant spreadsheet, painstakingly identifying the people behind each number, and when they did, they were privy to the real time thoughts of Trump family members, former cabinet secretaries, members of Congress, conspiracy mongers, even a Supreme Court Justices wife. You've called the texts from president Trump's chief of staff, Mark Meadows, The Crown jewels. Why? It was a road map, you know? It showed actually the evolution of the beginning arguments from alternate electors all the way through rally planning, all the way to day of. It showed conspiracy theories. It showed the saturation of QAnon. How'd you get them? He gave them up. What do you think it was a mistake?

"Members of the committee aren't happy that Denver riggleman and experienced military intelligence officer and former Republican congressman is talking to 60 minutes about the work he did for them. Riggleman has a history of swimming against the tide once a member of the ultra conservative house freedom caucus. He was endorsed twice by then president Trump. But after hearing what Denver riggleman has to say tonight, it's unlikely the former president will be buying his book. Did it hit you at one point that this is way bigger than it appeared in the beginning? Absolutely. Do you get a real aha moment when you see that The White House switchboard had connected to a rioters phone while it's happening? That's a big, pretty big aha moment. You get a aha. Wait a minute. Someone in The White House was calling one of the rioters while the riot was going on. On January 6th. Absolutely. And you know who both ends of that call. I only know one end of that call. I don't know The White House end, which I believe is more important. But the thing is the American people need to know that there are link connections that need to be explored more. As senior technical adviser for the January 6th committee, Denver riggleman, a former House Republican and ex military intelligence officer, ran a data driven operation pursuing phone records and other digital clues tied to the attack on the capitol. For my perspective, you know, being encountered terrorism, you know, if The White House, even if it's a short call and it's a connected call, who is actually making that phone call. Is there a simple innocent explanation for that? It wasn't an accidental call from The White House who just happened to call numbers that somebody missed a writer that day on January 6th. Probably not. Denver riggleman told us he uncovered a lot of disquieting information for the committee. Do you swear or affirm under penalty of perjury? conspiracy theories on March 4 and the reason behind them
"Theorists to March 4th. Well, it used to be that march. 4th was the date that presidents were inaugurated. We're talking decades ago, back before the 19 thirties and some right wing extremists have concocted this frankly strange and baseless idea that former President Trump would return to power today. Which they see as the true inauguration day. Now I talked to Denver Riggleman about this. He is a former Republican congressman who now tracks disinformation with the network Contagion Research Institute and Steve Riggleman told me that there is a lot of confusion among conspiracy theorists, many of them now believe without evidence, of course. That this March. 4th date is a trap set up by the quote unquote Deep state. I'm a little worried about March 4th. But now the conspiracy theorists believe that March 4th conspiracies are there to capture them after January 6, so I know that sounds absolutely bizarre, but that's that's how these individuals you know, living there Rabbit holes. And so because of that, Riggleman and other experts tell me they think that large scale violence isn't likely today. But law enforcement is on guard. Excuse me. Just let me

Dogma Debate
Republican Congressman vs. David C. Smalley
"Let's jump straight in. Because i want to bring our guest in on the conversation immediately. He's a former congressman from virginia's fifth district he's now nc are is chief strategist and author of bigfoot. It's complicated which. I really hope we have time to get into and i really hope. He's still a republican. Let's find out join me in welcoming denver riggleman to the show. Thanks for joining me today. Sir thanks for having me sir. Oh well you heard that with us for the first time it just came out moments ago. What are your thoughts. So i'd like to state as we start here. The president trump reid tweeted a few months ago that the joe biden. Kill seal team six. I think god you're right. No you know. That's and that's what i was when i was listening to that speech after what i heard Down near the white house right before the siege on the capital. In fact that i've been in. Congress have been in the house. And i knew some of those people that spoke like madison call or mo brooks of talked to many times Don jr. meant obviously rudy giuliani I've met obviously and and what i really saw. Their david was absolute Language to incite really. It happened over the months and months and to hear that right now. My my first reaction is not really a politician but as an intelligence officer and something counter-terrorism like somebody's very afraid of the senate trial for impeachment. I thought the same thing Michael came in a few seconds in michael goes. Looks like a hostage video like he looks like he like. It's not really his words. He just feels the need to say these things he had to. I mean you know. The thing is is that his his term does end. I know that there are some people that are still listening to pastures and trucks talking about biblical prophecy that president trump is right now hidden a bunker and mike. Flynn is going to be the next vice president but by the way that's true. I just saw this video two days ago. One hundred eighty five thousand likes david on a facebook video from some dude in a truck saying that you know he's a pastor and had biblical prophecy and he just went through the whole cunanan thing and i just shaking my head about the ridiculousness out there. But he still wants to keep his brand to. He's got to make money. And how's he going to do that. And i think there's a lot of things you need to worry about. And that speech was the copa. That was so too late and show not anything that he said before that very hard to believe men. You're spot on. I mean. I i you know about damn time is the first reaction and then does he even believe the stuff he's saying is the second reaction So late you know so late to the party So that so that my listeners have a little bit background as to why this conversation between the two of us is so important You know you're you're only a former congressman because apparently you weren't conservative enough for your district right you. You lost to someone who was far more conservative and on top of that. I've seen you. I've seen pictures. Anyway of you officiating. Same sex wedding so you don't sound very republican the to us sir. What's going what's going on over there. Why are you so open minded and logical. You know when iran. You know. i've only been. I don't know people know this about me. I was i was a ceo. sell my company in two thousand twelve doing counterterrorism and counterintelligence work. Could you know not. Only that i can. I can go back in time. If i told you the crazy stuff. I've done like we mission plan. The first bombing runs death in afghanistan for nine eleven. that was our squadron. It was me Oman training omanis on. F16 sixteen operations in two thousand and ninety nine. I was on. The romanian serbian border for operation. Allied for trying to stop ethnic cleansing. I've had a hell of a life and that's just the beginning counter idea. Actually our team that was tracking sulejmani and two thousand six two thousand seven so when people saw my resume like this son of a gun never been in politics before when i ran as a republican i was asked to because the my predecessor had to resign because of alcoholism. Which is a little ironic. Since i'm going to stiller. I one on accident one by one. Vote against a christian. Dominion est They called me a baby killing sodomite But i thought if if practicality and i was a good guy team player like in my military days voted independently when i had to I thought i would see that. I care about people more than the career. Because i didn't need the paycheck and sadly after the same sex wedding david conspiracy theory started about me that i was working for soros to turn children into alternative lifestyles by funding schools. To teach that doug gay sex was okay. And that i really started saying cunanan was turning and blossom and this was back in twenty nineteen and since my background is in you tracking isis and al qaeda and disinformation and radicals. I said this also looks like that. We have almost the same type of thing here. We have people that are using language of dehumanisation and antisemitic. Tropes to go after people. And you know it's like a lot my book right. It's about bigfoot belief systems and take over people's lives so really been a hell of a time for me. I never thought that My family we get death threats You know i never you know. I never thought that. I can tell you this. Now that somebody would remove the lug nuts are in them all up on my right front tire at a rally where i came out and felt funny and took it to a shop and look like they tried to hurt me pretty bad so this has been one of my life has been like for the past two years david. And guess what athem you know. This is what they want to bring it. Bring it because i got fifty acres of distillery and i'm a second amendment guy and but i'm also a free thinker and pretty socially libertarian. So i don't know where. I fit bud
