"Dancing lines in D.C., hey Nancy. Thanks, Carol. A prisoner swap between the U.S. and Russia means WNBA star Brittany griner is heading back to the U.S.. But the U.S. is releasing notorious Russian arms dealer Victor boot in return. President Biden says he has spoken to griner and she is safe and on her way home. This is a day we've worked toward for a long time. We never stopped pushing for her release. It took painstaking and intense negotiations and I want to thank all the hardworking public servants across my administration who worked tirelessly to secure her release. The president says the administration is still negotiating for the release of American Paul Whelan, who is serving 16 years in Russia, on spying charges. The UK, France and Germany are condemning Iran for executing a 23 year old protester today, a move that signals the Islamic Republic is significantly escalating its crackdown on anti government unrest. "Meetings with ministerial colleagues and others in addition to my duties in this house I shall have further such meetings later today My constituent Carol ridgeway faces 8 weeks of stress and worry as she waits for an urgent appointment at the local breast clinic in North Wales Yet despite the pandemic 85% of patients in England wait only two weeks for their urgent suspected cancer The prime minister is going to face a series of questions now in parliament Tom and this is going to get pretty heated over what happened in spring of last year And for a lot of people reducing to this as just a drink in the garden with colleagues For a lot of people around that period Tom who lost loved ones couldn't attend funerals Couldn't meet the birth of their grandchildren Their babies This has been a massive massive issue in this country and will continue to be so in the coming weeks and months John is there an American equivalent I just don't see it at the white can't imagine President Biden going through this exercise but do you see an American equivalent No right now No Tom Not right now no The prime minister is going to face some questions for the next 30 minutes or so and tell him if there's any headlines we'll bring them to you The main event stateside 8 30 Eastern Time CPI in America from the pandemic to the inflation pressure we've seen off the back of it Lisa 7% is the estimate Yeah and how much is it actually changed the narrative which already is for a stickier pace of inflation How much is it going to be the 7 hand all the sort of shock factor of seeing inflation at that high of a rate versus the underlying components I keep going back to this How much do we need to see a transmission from the goods inflation to the services inflation in order to give rise to the stickier feel that we keep hearing The fed conversation that makes it a big way as well Let's get to the equity market at 5 40 S&P up a little more than a tenth of 1% on the NASDAQ 132 of two tenths of 1% yields on ten four 28 yield tire by almost a basis point Joining us now Sebastian pays CIO and head of global multi asset at hero price Sebastian let's start with that inflation print a little bit later this morning What are you looking for sir We have a range of view at our firm and pretty much everywhere about inflation 7% looks reasonable That's the consensus When we discuss in our asset allocation committee where are we expect to CPI to print year over year at the end of this year Our base case is 3% but we think risks are skewed to the upside And for that you really have to watch the supply chain factors And they're pretty confusing Jonathan right The Baltic dry index is actually down 60% from its peak the cost of shipping stuff But then you have a hundred ships in the ports of Los Angeles You have only Kron creating more and more issues Jonathan you mentioned people not showing up for work at the airport A third of the workforce for united mentioned this earlier So the supply chain remains a puzzle the New York fed is put out an index of supply chain pressures and their narrative is that it speaking but when you look at the data I don't see it I have it on the Bloomberg It just keeps going up So we think the risks are skewed to the upside and we've positioned our portfolios to be short duration Sebastian page the heritage of tyrol price is absolutely unique You guys invented growth you invented sector analysis on the buy side I go back to roger mcnamee and what you guys did in technology T wrote price right now in honor of roger mcnamee on American technology and American growth stocks Am I long At the moment in our asset allocation portfolios we have tilted towards value and we like being long cyclicality because it's a relative valuation call and also a macro call based on the economy Now Tom I got to be really really clear We still believe in the role of technology We're still diversified between growth and value But as asset allocators we think the cyclicality is so underpriced all time extremes in terms of relative valuations It's already sort of playing out so far this year And you have rising rates which is good for financials or analysts on the platform or upgrading financials So that's our position tactically Sebastian how much is that call for value Hinge on this idea that the fed will not be forced to move too quickly will not necessarily become or move to a restrictive monetary policy and that the data will cooperate and allow them to do so You know it's interesting because over the last few weeks Visa we've priced in quite a bit of additional fed hawkishness right Now we're talking about four rate hikes If I go on wi RP on my Bloomberg I see three and a half rate hikes for 2022 Powell yesterday confirmed or talked about balance sheet runoff and the markets reacted okay to that So the question is is the fed going to be hawkish or not It's more can the feds still surprise on the hawkish side relative to what's priced in at the moment Our views the direction of travel for rates is higher this year and that's why we're short duration But what we really are looking at right now are the long-term dots There are two and a half percent They've been at two and a half percent since 2019 Will the long term dots change And that could be the kind of tailor risk hawkish surprise It's very hard to bring those up because we've piled on so much debt over time We had 10 trillion treasuries outstanding around the global financial crisis We have 30 trillion treasuries outstanding now How have we done that We've done that by lowering rates such that death service If you plotted on the same chart it's almost a flat line So you get trapped every time you add debt and we've added a lot in terms of government debt You handcuff yourself in terms of where the rates can end up So that is where the surprises could come but nonetheless our positioning right now is towards longer rates High rates Sebastian page of T Rowe price Really summarizing the big debate right now in the bond market and on the dot plot Sebastian thank you sir Thank you very much What a bill Dudley called it earlier this week Lisa the long dot the 2024 dart to be precise You think he called it fantasyland Yeah fantastic That basically they thought that it was going to stay so low However on the other side you have Stephen major and going back to that note this morning where he talked about perhaps going along the short end and seeing some value there And seeing a further sell off at the long end that's a tactical trade He still has the same view that we just heard from Sebastian page that long-term rates can not go up that high simply because of the amount of debt and how difficult it is to get to that higher terminal rate no longer term basis This is the.

"And so about a year after we did our interview, you dropped like a gears of user 5 review video that I was just like insanely impressed with that. It made me buy the game. Few friends literally picked it up, played it for about 6 months. I was God awful at it, mind you. But it got me hankering for more. And so I went back to play it, I think three or four months ago. Gears 5. And I was like, it's been a few years since gears 5 and any chance gear 6 comes out and I'm just my last year's question for you. So gear 6 coming out anytime soon, what do you think? And what would you like to see in a new gears of war? I think that the well as far as I know the coalition, the developers of gears of war, there are like a subsidiary or like a micro studio within the Microsoft or organization. I believe that they've announced that they are no longer working on gears 5 in terms of new content and patches. Which makes me think that gears 5 is probably done in terms of that and the focus is now on gear 6. I've also heard that they're working on some other games. As part of that Microsoft ecosystem, they're helping and assisting other studios on other Microsoft titles. But I think that gear 6 I wouldn't be surprised if we started seeing the teasers the next E three. Oh. But you know, it's kind of hard to tell. I don't know, I don't know what their plans are. I would love to see a new game. I think gears 5 is kind of reached its limit. I think that they've made a lot of really positive changes, especially within the last couple of year to a year in terms of supporting the eSports space. And really listening to the feedback that they get from the pro community. I think with everything going on in the world and the lack of land events, I think that really hurt a lot of eSports. And I think yours is one of those that truly suffered from not having those in person events. Years really thrived when you were in an event and saw the energy and the live crowd, especially in Mexico where there was that massive drawl and I think because of that, they've had to shift their focus. So I think, you know, if we can get a new gears game in a year or two, that would be pretty exciting. I would be definitely.

We talk about anything and pretty much everything related to eSports, whether that's the players, the coaches, occasionally the CEOs will bring on some presidents of eSports operations out there. And sometimes we like to bring in brand spanking new assistant GMs. Let's welcome in Nick ridgway. He's the newest assistant GM for complexity gaming. Previously, of course, of gears of war and ashes as the moniker was known as how you doing, Nick, I'm doing well, man. Thank you so much for having me on the podcast. I'm excited to chat about my new role and anything else you want to know. For sure. If people don't know who you are, first of all, you've been living under a rock for a while because Nick is a 22 time minted gears of war coach champion that is. General manager for a variety of organs as well. Now you, of course, you're the new assistant GM for complexity gaming based out of my backyard Frisco, Texas. I mean, you've played what gears of navy play were you coached gears of war teams on optic on NRG uyu. And like I mentioned, 22 time champion. So we got royalty in the house right now. So Nick, again, I can't thank you enough for taking time out of here. I'm sure busy new role to come on the show and talk a little bit about your journey and your new role. I'm gonna need you to be available for any time I make an entrance into a room, like WWE superstars have their music. I just want your introduction. Yeah, I'll do it, man. No, no, no problem. I'll just tie do you like king ashes right here? We're gonna get started, but let's start with the gears of war stuff, right? You had to store history and gears of war. You led to what increased interest to the point where you were involved in the scene for what 5 ish years I want to say you were in there for a while. So I guess what that interest where did that interest of years of work kind of come from? The funny thing is, I actually did not like years of war as a game when I was younger. It was kind of the game that my friend whenever I spent the night at his house in 8th grade, he would force us to play the split screen. Yeah, split green, playing the campaign, and it just wasn't. I was a halo kid. So it wasn't really my cup of tea. And as I grew older, and I got my own Xbox, and I got Xbox Live. I ended up buying a copy of gears and falling in love with the online multiplayer and actually competed a little bit. I went to a couple MLG events back in like 2009, 2010. So I got that competitive bug way back then. And I just remember going to the events and seeing the posters of wall she and seeing those top tier halo players walking around the events like superstars, and I was like, man, I really want to do that..

"And I want you to hear because very few of you listen to CNN, because very few Americans listen to CNN. I want you to hear the whole thing. Basically, it's blaming Fox for a made up controversy. Don't believe your eyes don't believe the heirs believe us at CNN. This is not a problem. At the same time. It is tendentious in arguing that CRT a subdivision of C T is true. This is the long cut, number six president of the second largest teachers union is vowing to defend educators who get in trouble for teaching quote, honest history. In a speech Tuesday, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, addressed the controversy surrounding critical race theory, which examines US history through the lens of systemic racism. Republican politicians have been framing this theory is a threat to American Children and legislators in more than 12 states have proposed bills to ban It, Weingarten says. Reunion is prepared to stand up for any member who is punished for teaching lessons on race and racism. CNN's Ellie Reeves spoke with a teacher who uses critical race theory and looked at how backlash to this framework has exploded. So Ellie do these vocal opponents a critical race theory. Actually understand fully what it is No. And why should they? It's an academic theory mostly taught at the grad student level. But what they think it means is teaching white kids that all white people are bad and racist. And so of course, they're afraid of that. Yeah. There are thousands of parents all over the US of all races who have been speaking out against CRT. And rightfully so. These are my babies, not yours. If you are embarrassed or ashamed of your skin color, That's your issue, not mine nor my Children. This is a school board meeting in a suburb of Philadelphia, where a small group of very vocal parents are speaking out against critical race theory or CRT. We do not want our Children to be taught that America is systemically race. This 600,000 people died in the civil war to end racism and slavery. Don't rewrite factual history or doctrine. Eight just present the facts. In the wake of protests of the murder of George Floyd. Republican politicians have been hyping critical race theory as a threat to the impressionable minds of America's Children. Critical race theory says every white person is a racist, critical race theory says America's fundamentally racist and irredeemably racist in more than 12 states. Legislators have proposed bills to ban CRT. We wanted to meet the actual people working with actual kids and actual schools. So we talked to Cassia Ridgeway, who teaches high school, African American history and discusses CRT and her anthropology class. Can I just start with a very simple What is critical Race theory? Yes, Critical race theory is not being taught in schools. It is a theory. It is a lens by which to view History and the way that law and race kind of overlaps and connects in society. Can it influence the way that some teachers teach? Uh yeah, but that's a good thing right? Because race and racism is literally the building box of this country. So how can you not talk about it? Critical race theory is an academic framework that says racial inequality is perpetuated by the racism embedded in America's laws, not by individual Bigotry. But relentless propaganda from some conservatives has created a panic that white people, especially white Children, are under attack. Critical race theory is basically teaching people to hate our country. Schools are embracing this ideology and forcing white students and white teachers to be ashamed of their own skin color. It's not critical race theory. It's racism. These are systemic things ignoring it perpetuates the problem by acknowledging it. We can find Solutions, and we can address the problems in the inequality that exists in our country. And so I think teaching it this way, actually does the opposite of what these people say it does. Are you teaching Children to hate America? No. I'm teaching Children to question America and that's what makes a good patriot don't force on our kids. Particular worldview, taking a wide brush and painting this country as structurally racist. It's insane. Why didn't be insane, though I mean, just lie. Last year, a lot of fish mine says she received an email from her kids school that students would be learning more about the role of race in American society. She thought the materials were racist, so she pulled her kids out of public school..

"Gonna be very diminished. Wrestling season with kevin the colorado preps network talking. About what season be. We'll be looking like here. Let's move to the quote unquote big sport here. In in season be which is basketball the big takeaway and we'll get into it. You know fourteen game regular season. You gotta do a lot of things to cater to the to the postseason here. No constellation rounds. State which kevin. I've never been four. The constellation around so is that something that you could see. Maybe going away after this year. possibly I'm like you plan. Constellation game is very difficult that the reason they do it in the smaller classification issue. You had it eliminated in three a couple of years ago for and five. Am haven't had for a very long time. The reasons they play them in one in two ways because the travel. If you're coming all the way from your ray or dolores or dove creek or ridgeway and coming up to greeley or the denver area. They don't wanna make that trip possibly for just one game so they'd like to guarantee them two games and that's part of the reason it stays in place for the smaller schools because of the travel and cost involved while we're here let's play to at least instead of just one but again i can see this going away I'm not a big fan of them. I would also like a consider. This might be considered radical tanner. But i would like to see the basketball season as a whole. Push back to start after january. I think where we play in december and then we play seven eight nine ten games and then have to stop for two weeks and then start over again in january. That's very hard on players. That's very hard on coaches And so i would think maybe with this. We could get consideration of pushing the entire season and playing all of basketball. After the new year's into mid march and make one continuous running season again going back to schools on the small school level. You have a lot of crossover and those. Those kids do well in football. They miss out on the early practice run in basketball and other winter sports so again that would alleviate that problem we could also push football a little bit later on if we wanted to so again. I hope we would consider that is to happen. No but i think it would be something. We should discuss to be honest with you. Because when you talk to the coaches. Tanner you do this. They hate to get started and then lay off for two weeks. It's hard yeah. No it is and the momentum behind it and everything like that. And then you throw in the interruption of christmas and new year's and then you've got those quote unquote voluntary practices. The throw in there. Too and i agree with you. I i don't know if that's radical but even at my time back in platte valley. We'd we'd make her into the the state championship game and and we wouldn't have but to practices before the first game for first basketball game. So i'm here with you on that. I like that idea. Kevin so you've got my support okay. We're too that's too but again you go back to your days because now they've start basketball. The last week of november football stretches into december. So again if you're one of those teams are not just missing practices. You missing games. And and in this in this situation where you're determining playoff teams by rankings and computer stance and all that every game is important. Obviously and so if you have three of your top kids still playing football and you're missing the first weekend tournament for basketball. That's three games out of nineteen that you don't have your full roster that could hurt you down the road as far as getting into the playoffs or getting seated for the bracket so again. I just think that takes that issue off the table if we would consider this time with shaver. colorado preps network here. Okay the big bullet-point coming out of yesterday chassis will be requiring all players to wear masks even while they're out there playing kevin. Was that something you expected Yes it was to be honest with you and Because they sent out a bulletin that wasn't made public they sent it out to coaches and athletic directors. Back in december and said. This is what we're looking at for basketball at this point and it included. Everybody masked up officials coaches referees players. Obviously and so everybody right now is going to be masked up now. I will tell you that could change. I mean this is a moving target. I just saw on twitter that. Unc is going to allow some fans in the are. Mac is Playing without mass see. Ucs you playing without maso. Maybe this is a moving target. And i think hopefully by the time we get two games here later this month that we're going to alleviate some of that because i think that brings on some other health issues. You played basketball. It's tough to breathe sometimes and then if you put a mask on it's going to be even more difficult so i think this opens up some issues health wise that we haven't thought about down the road and and some of these officials i mean i'm a fifty six year old man and trying to get into shape and to run up and down the floor. These guys cover four to five miles in a game Again putting a mask on them. That's going to be difficult for those guys as well right well and the thing that i look at to kevin is that there's plenty of other leagues like you mentioned but even other states that are operating without this without this requirement and you don't see an overwhelming case load coming from high school athletic in states like nebraska. I agree and that's why. I wish we could put out the evidence out there in not only colorado but in other states that if you're an unmasked state if you will playing high school sports how many cases have you had of transmission between players on one team to another team or just how many cova cases overall. We don't have any of that information out in front of us that i'm aware of and if again if you put that out there and can justify why this is happening. I think a lot of people would be more Patient with some of these decisions but just to throw it out there and say. Here's what we're doing it because the sciences so show me the science. That's all i ask for. If you show me the information i can agree with you or continue to disagree but again you must justify why you're making these decisions and you and i know high school kids are on the lower end of The kobe issue absolutely and so i. I just think we're creating an issue where there isn't one right now i just i. I'm not surprised that happened. I wish it won't. I hopefully will move toward eliminating that issue as we get closer to actual game being play. It'll be interesting there to the enforcement of that at at the local level as well. Because as you and i also know that there's not the can't be a chasa actual official at every one of these you know you'll have the athletic directors there so i wonder about the enforcement. Yeah with video out there though. There's going to be prove that didn't happen because a lot of schools because of no fans are going to do a lot of coverage more radio stations are going to enhance their coverage as well. So there's going to be evidence. I just some of these rules. Standard because on top of the mass. They're gonna enforce what i'm gonna call it. A covert timeout Kind of like a media timeout. But like the first dead whistle after four minutes of each quarter. They're going to take time out that kids take a break. Take their masks off. But during that break you can't be within six feet of one another. There's no coach player interaction during this time out. It's just kind of break for kids to quote unquote catch their breath. But we've been running up and down the court in the first quarter for four minutes. We've been bumping each other for rebounds. We've been bumping each other for charge block calls trying to steal the ball. Whatever you say and then four minutes we have to stop and take a break and these kids that have been bumping up four together. All throughout the game can't get within six feet of one another. It makes no sense to me. I mean there's no justification of one into it's like a coin toss before football. We could not do a coin. Toss before football but yet we could slam each other for forty eight minutes and then after the game. We can't shake cans again. All that together does not make any sense. If you show me why you're doing it. Maybe i understand but that doesn't make sense. I couldn't have said that any better. So i'm just gonna let i i it doesn't make it doesn't make any damn sense that they're doing it this way but It well and i'll tell you why they are it it's for pr. It's four the look of of saying okay. We're doing what we can. Covert nineteen on a much bigger scale. Kevin and this is conversation maybe over a cup of coffee but the covid nineteen as.

Berlin patient: First person cured of HIV, Timothy Ray Brown, dies
"Cured of HIV passed away this week, and we're learning that his influence on local research here lives on comas. Denise Whitaker has that story. Timothy Ray Brown was a Seattle native but living in Germany when he was cured of HIV through a bone marrow transplant. I interviewed him in 2013 after he moved back to Seattle from Germany, where he received that transplant and became known as the Berlin Patient. Brown passed away this week at age 54 still free of HIV, but his cancer had returned. His case continues to inspire researchers of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, the first pioneers of bone marrow transplants back in the 19 sixties. And that research continues. Today. Dr. Hans Peter Quim tells me that what started with Brown in Berlin more than 20 years ago, continues to influence the research into many other diseases. Today, we knew by then, already that we could, in fact, modify a patient's own cells to making resistant to HIV, that really no launch this of HIV effort at that time, and my lab Ridgeway and microbe has really worked on are now using the patient's own cells. To make the patient's own cells resistant to HIV team just received a new grand from the National Institutes of Health to continue his research of the hutch. He's essentially kind of gene editing kind of taking jeans apart and modifying them, putting them back into patients. Researchers at the Hutch have expressed their sadness at Brown's death, but say his story really continues to give them and others suffering from HIV. Sickle cell disease and other blood diseases. But there is hope for more to be cured. Come on news time.
