"By Ted dibiase. And then all of a sudden, who sees persona, he got over as a baby face. I remember one of the worst cuttings he ever gave me was one night after all. Was over, and I went back to the locker room area and there he looked down at the floor like he was looking for dimes. And I said, well, how's it feel to be a big baby face, man? I got an FU and SOB and, you know, he was ripping my ass. I said, well, let me hold on a second. Because I knew what motivated stoical. Yeah. Money. I said, you know, the money you could make. Simply on a merch. Is astonishing. You'll make more money on merch than you've ever made with a resting contract. And he raised his head up off the floor and looked at me. And he was searching for more info. I said, you're going to have quarters of income where you're going to make 7 figures. And you know I both know 7 figures is a $1 million. That's a lot of t-shirts. You might say, but you've got your audience is growing at least some bounds every week. There's more posters every week. That's a great market research. The promoter should look at the science and the audience. I love it when AEW fans rank signs. It tells us what's on their mind, which are thanking what has their interest at that point in time. Right. So he got over his heart on for being a babyface and started accepting the role because becoming a baby face might not have been his preference. He wanted to be an old school heel. I said your shelf life would be longer as this character baby face. That's what he was. He wasn't Ricky steamboat, Ricky Morton, trying to kind of a baby face. He was a character baby face that didn't change his work style. It changed his whole his mannerisms as a sequencing or nothing. He just was a rough ass character baby face. And I told him, you know, you're kind of like cowboy was. Back in that air, cowboy was not going to take a lot of bones. Right. But he was so much run into his fist as often as you wanted to. Until it was time to go home. And people loved it. They lived by carelessly through that. So he started coming around in that regard, but and we all knew that somewhere down the road, you know, at some point, stone cold versus red heart was the money. And it was money. WrestleMania 13 was a hell of a massless dude sad. So as a double turn, and those are hard to pull off. I've been a part of many successful ones. So yeah, I think that I think that we were on the cusp of doing a lot of things, but we needed Brett. To make sure it all worked. Because he had a stability, and he added believability to the process that we're trying to achieve. So it was interesting time to say the least in this episode of raw is really compelling and standpoint that it opened a door for a lot of things. It's going to be a different day, different era, different priorities. And it was looking back on it is a whole lot more exciting now than it was then because then we didn't know where we were going. We didn't know. Is this going to work? And nobody created the attitude era when nobody was supposed to think, oh, attitude air, shit, nobody knew what that was. We wanted to get new talents involved. There were hungry. They were looking for an opportunity. And nobody was hungrier than the stone cold. And I know this is not a stone coach show, but that was kind of the mindset of what we're trying to do. You have guys a chance that has been working a long time. There were good hands in the ring. There were pro wrestlers and they were doing. And that included at the top of the very list was Bret Hart. Red hart was where it all started in the trickle down from Brett was prominent and significant to say the least. Well, to be clear, it kind of is a stone cold episode because he's one of the opponents that Brett's looking forward to working with the most, and of course we know it'll be Brett's first opponent. But before we press play, I want to ask a couple more questions. One specifically about Bret Hart. I'm not exactly sure when the timeline happened, but I know in 1996, is when we see JJ Dillon leave and go to WCW. And I believe that happened, the month prior in September. So I am curious since you're now going to be trying to tackle some of the talent relations stuff on a Bruce had a cup of coffee in that C to believe. All right, he did. But were you involved in any of the Bret Hart negotiation? No, and you know, that was a comedy nominator through the years of advance. He took ownership of certain talents. Got it. When we brought in return Hogan, you know, I had no relationship with Hogan. And unfortunately, I still don't have one at this very day. I respect him. I don't dislike him. I just never got close to it. Then this had a close time. And they had been closer in 19 would say, but no, I didn't have that was all Vince. Some of those talents, like warrior, and Brett, of course. The one that he let go of because I got more results than Vince did was Austin. Right. Officer became my guy. And, you know, I did everything I could for stage to win and for the company to win. For the company to win with Austin, make sure his contractors solid. And he's happy. And make sure he's getting paid well. Based on what he's earning and what he's selling. Again, the house show business was a huge component of what we were doing and added to the bottom line of these guys income. But Vince was Brett versus guy. And we also wanted to handle Brett himself. And I think that was a smart move quite frankly. I could back it up. I could reinforce his theories and his feelings and so forth to Brett when it was called upon. But this one to make sure he took care, Brett, and I said, have at it. Because that gave us you know, that helped me out a lot. It helped me get a deal done. Basically because we answer trying to was ramrod again. And I think that made bread feel good. He's being intended to by the top guy, and not a ham and air from Oklahoma. What's the hold up? Do you need me to spell it out for you? It's GER, CO dot com. That's why you save money. Geico dot com. Talk to me about mister perfect..

You hear terms like that Rather than the corner who had a big chops state of intense excitement and agitation. I know what it may. I known use of eighteen forty six. But that's all i see. The first known use a fever pitch was in eighteen forty six. Well thanks for the insight doctor. Wizard mister wizard should so must have been something to do with Know baseball or something was baseball in eighteen forty six. Now i'm going to have to look that up. What have you got there is here talk for. Flares got steamboat by the hair. Andre checking on steamboat. Meghan sure he's all right. Flare pounding away and andrei still right there. Talking to steamboat. And andre may want to end this but steamboat saying no steamboat. Now trying to get to feed as flare gist hunting down that big job on steamboat with chop flair with a knee steamboat off. The roads uses the momentum for diving. Double chop never seen that before and now at flair on the defensive in steamboat to his feet steamboat went up for one of the highest elbows. I've seen but flair able to move out of the way. Andre the giant just drink six beers mouth are going. That pet didn't need across the head. This i'm trying to figure out which auditorium. This would have been. Doc can come up with is actually a musical term for a change in the pitch about okay to a higher intensity as the first wrestling move. We'd really seen in this. We've been watching this about seven minutes suplex so explain to me what a wrestling move would be as as far for me for you to not tell me the greatest of all time in possibly the greatest entering worker of all time. I would like for you to let me know what wrestling moves. They should be doing. I wasn't saying it was good or bad. Uh-huh andre call flare coming off the top rope and that now i will say this andrei intervened and he shouldn't have there a book. Shouldn't be if you're not supposed to come off the top run. Oh well i don't. I don't know what the rules are. During this time if i had to guess in mid atlantic in the seventies years you you shouldn't come off the top wrote classic flare. I mean he had to know. I'll get by gone and sat down beside one of those fans and said nine over the next eleven years. These guys going to have some of the grace matches ever. They would say well. I'm watching one of the great right now. Say who would say yeah no. I'm sitting here watching this match right now between them. I can see how good it is. Andres like you got thrown over the top rope. There's the police sit down. sit down. well it appears again. These are all incomplete matches and it automatically went to andre the giant and blackjack mulligan versus ric flair and ken patera. I you know the late eighties. Even as much as i read and have tried to learn about crockett before we started watching like everybody like paul i. I was reading something about paul orndorff. How they're like he should've been. Nwea champion like he had great runs and mid atlantic that you just unaware of if i'm not mistaken randy. Savage was there as a as a enhancement. Oh wow thank. I'm pretty pretty confident about that. Jimmy snuka obviously was a right like you know all the it really is true. like mcmahon gist picked picked picked at you know. And that's the same thing tony kahn. Tony kahn's going to all the smaller promotions picking their best. You know raiding the indies raiding daniel bryan rate and guys like him and alastair black lacob lack. What are these other promotions. I supposed to do these little small mom and pop promote main. It's a family operation. What really in stamford connecticut. How are they supposed to compete. What are they gonna do like. They don't have any international superstars that are in the movies or anything like that. They're going to be like they have like the number one box office draw as twenty years as one of their is probably going to be coming back soon. How's it how's the rock coming back. Oh help wwe right. Right really honestly. Is anybody even know who that is. Nobody and let maybe maybe they can bring in. Vin diesel to kind of show him how to work. How how is the rock coming back going to compete. When aws bringing in guys like nick gage. Warhorse right. I mean it's not fair really is not fair. Somebody should say to tony kahn. "Hey everybody welcome to the double drop kicks you. I'm work with and we. We're just hanging out today. We watched a little bit of cannonball run. We watched we just been watching stuff. We're watching on youtube where we're waiting. It's july twenty fourth. We're stalling to get to the w homecoming show because we just want to watch something different to But now this is not going to be something this is. We're going to link to this From admitted mid atlantic championship wrestling classics. Ric flair versus ricky steamboat. Us title match. Andre the giant special guest referee. And we're gonna. I'm gonna hit start and then we're not going to do commentary. We're going to talk about this match. And maybe do a little commentary to so we've watched we just watch flair and valentine versus the andersons. Yes with a finnish where they get tripped they trip over the knockdown referee and i guess only makes the pin falls on top of flair. And it just kind of out of suplex attempt. Yeah where the fans would say will they botched that finish but that that's pretty released. That's exactly how something like that would have happened. Exactly all right here. we go. We we got andre. The giant in the corner. Andre got his close. I don't know they all had to be custom-made you would think 'cause like it's hard for me to find clothes. Imagine what it's like for a guy like andre job. Yeah he had to have known. The people now flare has taken the microphone. That's one of my women's what said and andres o. That woman over there this is from nineteen seventy eight and the i guess this is andre. The giant ready to come in and just drafts he she. How big is hands. Yeah andre the giants hand is as big as ricky steamboats head. Not as big as adam. Cole's head would take andre two hands. Depaul madame ko's. I'm sure we'll see a conrad thompson special on wear. This robe is probably now. This is from the cry. The lost cornet crockett tapes. But they're now on youtube and everywhere and did most of the foot is that you see is from that those arena shows back then that is From the the the cornet tapes that he say he pulled him out of the trash can pretty much set them on the curb. Throw them away and he went and got him. This is eleven years before some of their best work Not if you ask around. That's not eleven years if you ask anybody that was sitting in the front row those arenas back. Then they'll tell you this was better. Andre may help. Steamboat are out there and andres letting him know you don't you. Hey don't do that again and flare incredulous over. What just happened just taking his time. Nobody takes time anymore. Fake to most time now will they be standing there waiting for him to dive on. That's what i mean right wrestling. Now's the watching the ladder mass the other night and i thought you know in two thousand twenty one. Nobody sells anything. They need to lay outside the ring. Twelve minutes during ryder. Right and.

"Or is it more important to be principled stand for something in this case, an anti racist Ah, you know, bend in a monk here amongst your promotion, and I think we're finding out the answer. Then again, I'm not like decrying Dana White and I'm not putting him in the you know in a bad place, but The fact that he won't address this is frightful. He did address that. He just said, I'm not gonna muzzle anybody. He absolutely addressed that. He didn't just say no comment, he said. This is in essence, this is how we do business. And if you don't like it Don't watch or don't come. That's pretty much what he said. And unfortunately, that's going to happen and I don't know because it's as twisted as this is, Boy. This is going to get people to reach for that, You know, $50 for paper view. It's going to teak. There's been great technical fights lately. I don't dispute that. Where's the splash? Where's the juice? There's Where's like energy. Where's the story line? There is none. I mean, Tyron Woodley lost this fight, not because he supports black lives matter. Azaz, he said. As Colby Covington said, This is his quote. He's a communist. He's a Marxist. He stands for criminals. He hates America. That's why he got broke tonight. He lost because, as you just mentioned Tyron Woodley is a technical fighter, right? He's a wrestler who learned to be an intimate fighter and was a champion for the UFC. But he's very technical and emotional, violent sport like the UFC. Sometimes you need a you need a little extra little something else. You D'oh! D'oh! D'oh! That's why he lost not because of You know the narrative. That the victor is creating. That is Koba Colby Covington is creating, And so is it dangerous? I mean, that could be it could be, But it's not because right now this this the arenas are empty and there is no hangover other than the story gets told, unless You know all of the other fighters in the UFC promotion band together and say where we refuse to fight him, you know is much that's not gonna happen. I know it's not going to be all lined up to fight him. Out of anger, but what's but what's But what's worse, anger or apathy that well in the fight game apathy. Yes, that's what I mean. So but no, I'm meeting that's more detrimental to the people who if they follow what you said to be apathetic to a guy that's gonna put money in your pocket is bad for you. Yeah, I know. That's what I'm saying. And that's the problem. So you'd rather lineup and try to kick his ass. Here's the other thing you have to consider if President Trump called them Trump call them and it President Trump gets reelected. You know Covington's got four more years. You know to to do this now, If Trump is not elected, you know, Suddenly the hat that he wears is it's not as it doesn't matter as much of it kind of goes away a little bit for sure. Not that he can't you know, Rifle off, you know, inflammatory things, Whatever. But I to me. I don't know. This is really To make the UFC has become a little bit. And as I think it's a good analogy, you know, there's you know, I used to love wrestling and there were just certain matches where you've got a great technician. That guy's phenomenal Leo Ricky Steamboat was a great nominal wrestler. But after a while you needed Ricky in the ring with a guy who could work the microphone because you just did to that extra pop that splash tohave. You know, Two guys roll around like Bret Harte and Ricky Steamboat or somebody like that. For an hour. Yeah, I love that because I was a real wrestling fan. But the average fan needs that juice that, like Piper would draw you in with the microphone. And right now, you got a lot of steam boats and ah lot of bread. I know this is an antiquated reference. I get that, but Ah lot of steamboats and bred horse rolled around the octagon, but not a lot of pipers. And you need a piper. You need a Roddy Piper in the fight game. He wants to be a heel. He was the bad guy and He's he's embracing being the bad guy. He's just doing it very close to the edge. So yeah, very, very close. Very no doubt know, no doubt. No, I mean in certain spots. He's crossing the edge. Yeah, Look, The ironic thing is that in the old WW.

I think Alexander Hamilton and Erin Byrne. I think Jews and Palestinians, I think Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat, I think, os you in Michigan. But above all that Hamelin County versus the city of Cincinnati. That is the gift that keeps on confusing. It's good morning, slowly back on 700 wlw in jumping right into it. Today, the city of Cincinnati shut up its own project. Let me say that again. The city of Cincinnati. Under the leadership of John Cranley has shut down its own project. I'm talking about that brand new concert venue that's going in in the shadows of Paul Brown Stadium. The music venue itself, actually not affected a cz Muchas of the streets. Because the contraband he's privately funded. We're talking about the area. That would be the infrastructure approaching that along Race street, And that, of course, is now being shut down by City Council. This thing makes no sense wasting away. Why would they wait? Why they doing this? That's the number one question that no one knows, made a lot of calls this morning. And I'm getting no answers. Maybe. Maybe Christopher Smitherman apparently is running all of City Council, The city Vice Mayor Smitherman Terrel on public safety chair of economic growth and development. He's taking it all on this morning, Chris. Good morning. How are you? Hey, Good morning, Phony howare. You know when you said Ric flair like brought back memories player, Ric Flair and Ricky Steve, but one of the great wrestling rivalries of all time. It's no triple agent Shawn Michaels. But it's up there. It's up there. Maybe the undertaking when Ric Flair When peoples are no, Jefferson, the nature boy, the nature boy. All right, let's get down to it here. I don't want to get off in the weeds because just trying to figure this thing out if I if I would lay this whole case out in front of If you're listening this morning tea go. Okay. What? What's going on here with permits and long story Short is this the city issued a permit for construction on or about June 1st, the City Council sold a portion of Ray story a small sliver of race and I think this It's a tiny parking lot on race Street. What is what it Wass. The City administration never executed the deal never submitted it to the Hamlet County auditor's office. So now the mayor's going Wait a minute. We're going to use that as a way to hold this project up. In order to get I don't know what but get what we want. And so it doesn't make sense that to say that is the mayor's John Cranley, using the incompetence of his own city manager. To hold up a project that will benefit ultimately northern Kentucky. So let me say you are. You really are setting it up for me. Um, let me online a couple of things. One. Um, You know, I don't believe you don't believe that our city manager Paula knew thing is incompetent, but I think this is I think this is the home of this goes back to Tony done it well, the discussion right now this is the list back up and say this is a 15 17 year deal where the city and the county got together. And the city owned land. The county owned land. I'm just trying to make this simple. We all got in the room and we're gonna work together. But we didn't give up ownership of our land. We say it. We're all going to cooperate for the good of the city and county and so lot 1 13 23 24 25 are all in play. And so eight months ago, Commissioner Topper Tune within hospice. The mayor went to him. Obviously, we're not goingto hash out. All of that That was happening and they cut a deal and everybody agreed eight months ago. That lot. One in Lot 13 would be conveyed to the city. This is our land. It's not the county's land. And I think if the county representative came on, they would say Okay, enough. What happened? Here is lot 23 hours. We're saying that we want to build a park. We're paying for the park. Um and we're interested in the county of signing that contract to build the park. And sold a discussion about 23 I'm being very open about it is spending a message to the county to complete the deal that they agree to eight months ago regarding lot one and lot 13. And I know that their discussions happening. You know they were happening last night. I'm sure they'll be happening this morning. I think that permit is going to be executed and things were going to go forward. The question is is when, as partners in the county and the city are we going to say what we agreed on eight months ago? We're going to make sure that we codify that in writing to the city, and that's what we're waiting for. From the county. Here's Here's Chris. Hold on. Here's the that I get what you want and broken. I get what you're saying. And no from the counties to you're the only one. I think the only one smart enough or may be dumb enough to come on the show this morning to talk about this, Kristi. No one else wants to talk. It's like the third round and you don't care. No, I don't have anything to lose other than try to be a good publisher on wide and slowly and unwind it myself. This is hard to follow. And I'm trying to lay this out without the benefits of graphs charged power Point presentations, animations, gifts. Things like that were talking this out this morning on the show, and it's awfully difficult for me to follow. I can't imagine if you're listening. I I I don't know just lot 13 and 22 23 27. And so I think the key thing from Keith that I believe that the permit Is going to be issued for lot 23 that the park is going to be built. That's a music venue that is being paid 100%. Yes, by the music venue people right, 100% and we thank them for that end and the music then you cannot be successful without the park. We all get that and understand it. What we do want is to make sure that the deal that we have agreed upon that they are codified and we're asking any county..

"Best in ring work, but the to you know added together really made for a really good performer, and you know you believe that he was the fuck out of these people didn't matter the size he gave. He gave the the whole. It's not the size of the dog in the fight sized fighting dog mentality to a lot of people and you know it. It didn't matter, so he just I think for for me. That That worked his way into the top ten and then Bret Hart. For me, one of my favorite wrestler is growing up He was the excellence of execution for a reason e could. You know you had a really good submission set. Ee was really GONNA striking. He was really fast in the rain he made. Other guys look really well are really good and I just think that put him on top five for me. anybody have anything about the knicks five six seven or agreements disagreements. Now. Smitty your next with your five six and seven at number seven. You have Chris Jericho. Number six, you have ricky steamboat and at number five. You have Chris Ben Wa talk a little bit about Jericho. This is the highest. Jericho is on anyone's list and then, of course there's ricky. steamboat in Chris Benoit's. So why why do you feel Jericho deserves the number seventy or soccer a little bit earlier. When he was on. Joe's Lewis that number ten. Tell me, so tell me why you feel these a number seven, and of course talk about Ricky steamboat and Chris Benoit's. US. My number seven. I own A. He accredits up ten for me. Parviz body of work in his. Still it is still developing at this point especially at the age. That is well. Not always his character evolved rate is race styles evolved adapted to everything that he's been going what I'm getting older and stuff like that. he's also put on great mashes everywhere. He's been even Awa. He's Oh he's putting on decent Maddie's. What Yard is? And he's also giving this also as a former. He's given a rupture. Somebody guys inner circle. A pride and powerful Varo. That's not that's not as in ring work though it doesn't necessarily. Work is entering work. Even they're like his mass. What Kodiak full gear the Massey Hangman page at all out of. It all out. So he's. He's still putting all really really good. Match what! W! Has Ron's WWe. Most wanted to me. He always has something memorable. You'd have you talk about. His running WCW. When he was, they owned their own in Mexico. When he was in Japan, there's always the people are talking about. When it comes to Chris Jericho no matter where he has in ring. and. Ricky steamboat and Crispin Raw yes, where he. Just has a body of work. Even the stuff that that still amazes me to this day when I go back and watch it. Like. Somebody three considered one of the greatest, Russell May of all time in some of his stuff. Even what classes champions like forgot which class champions? It was where he actually gets study Steve. Austin. And that was one of the things that Kinda put off and on a map for me because that match was really good. his masters He had a good series of master route WCW. You said. As soon as a maximum, ric flair throughout eighties and early eighties. It his Badio. Ricky steamboat, Ricky steamboat was never read the biggest guy of Assad, but he's always put on. A Maze matches with whoever he was in ring with. and. Was Chris Been Wa. Wa was one of those heart like he was always a mind. Rubber wash started. Backing e seat when he was easy. W Pigs, kid and he was, he had a great zoos a match with. Lionheart. And like has. Is a new Japan though city. To also made the way to. The awesome. W like ninety, four, ninety, three, ninety, four, ninety, four, hundred, five, or something like that. Yeah, but anything W. their themselves not lying. Not No. Lionheart. Jericho's. He was Lionheart Chris Jericho? It wasn't like corleones de Lille or whatever he was. In Ben. A song, yeah. Whatever What would? Ben Wa wasn't Pegasus Kid. W. They like when I first saw them. They were reform and w just like when I first saw Malingco Guerrero. In this series of matches that they had there, that's where I was like. I like a good wok. Care Unlikely to watch. Everything in WCW was really good in W era just was probably him to sit in the suite. And he was like you great technician when he later strikes in what they fucking hurt. I always entertain me. He's at one of my favorite submissions of all time, so that was kind of subjective where he got there. With a across face. Up Next, the your seven eight and nine year number seven is someone that no one else has on their list of Randy Orton? Number six. You have Chris Benoit's and at number five you have curtain will start off with Randy Orton which. Let me. Something I I'm not gonNA argue in this I think Randy Orton is one of the smoothest. Technical workers inside of a ring right now, so I can't even. Even have on top ten, but go ahead and tell me why you feel. He's he's in. He deserves a be an option. For that exact reason Randy Orton in my career of watching wrestling, which goes back thirty three years. When he wanNA.

"You have an rip herself. Yeah Yeah Rocky Johnson. I mean he was one of the I. I remembered tag team Champs with Tony Atlas. Obviously the Rock dwayne Johnson's father Yeah he was deep was what what a physique nothing like you've ever seen Back then and he was a talented wrestler back in the early mid eighties. And he'll be missed. Soul patrol was attacked him. Mangino Cleveland was also sort of faced with the company was his relationship like with vents once they really got up and going. Great. I mean, really and truly great Vince trust, gene. Gnocchi been reading affinity wars. You've seen that they have a kind of. A weird offshoot from that cone, Infinity warps were Gamarra's. She's gotten them vanity stones, and she's kind of folded the universe in on itself. And a lot of the characters have been combined merged as you had cabinet. American doctor strange were merged form soldier supreme thorn. Ironman merged, have iron hammer, and they revealed a new one. Just the other day wolverine was merged with Emma frost. Now he has his own little hover wheelchair. So he looks a lot like professor x with a big bat symbol on his chest. Sure. He's still pretty deadly. Even with that full body armor, he wolf to bunch of of legion of doom. He was pretty instrumental and then justly getting the totality away from lex Luther on. Now, he's taking easy. He's he's sitting instead of standing. But this, this hover chairs pretty armored up. I'm sure he's got it full of all kinds of weapons. So certainly Justice league.
