"They can't. He's just sitting there watching all this, but he needs to just sit there. Yeah. He just sit there and absorb and Diana was talking about if they don't get Rogers. Have they felt pain like this? I'd go back to when the Knicks thought they were getting LeBron. They really thought that they were, you know, he was there in Connecticut and Greenwich, boys and girls club and it just felt like, well, of course he's there. And the practice facilities there. He's coming to the, he's not going to the Knicks. He's taking his talents elsewhere. Yes. I was convinced the Knicks were getting LeBron and Ricky Rubio at the exact same time. They're going to go to New York together. Yeah. Because you need Ricky Rubio if you're going to get LeBron. Yes, Mark. There's nothing better than when a pending free agent goes to the garden, the season before they become a free agent. They just already have their jerseys, like the Kevin Durant, Nick Jersey, the LeBron next Jersey to Kyrie. They're gonna have a Zion Jersey here coming up. They were like, oh, this is our big three. Kyrie Zion, Katie. Oh, none of them came. Let's see. Mike and Ohio will squeeze in a couple of phone calls? Hey, Dan. Second timer. Hey, Mike. Hello. Hey, I got a question for you. Did you ever have the Bert Miz ballpark mustard in Cleveland, Ohio? Probably, but I haven't been to a Cleveland game in a long, long time. You can't say Indians anymore. I understand. But hey, I'm going to send you guys some mustard, but I got an idea for fritzi to get it person into the brackets. Okay. It needs to reach out the Dr. Phil's people. It is Dr. Phil voice and invite Dr. Phil to be in the bracket challenge. Well, Fritz is not afraid to invite anybody, Mike. You got this whole fancy aquarium in the house, you ain't got no fish in it. He got a toothache and going to the podiatrist. That's not going to work. It would be great to have Dr. Phil on and you do Dr. Phil to Dr. Phil. I just love his random statement. Like you're going away. What did you say? My son's on drugs. You got this big cowboy hat in the horse in the last one. I don't make you no cowboy. There are so many non sequiturs with him. But when fritzi goes, I was watching Dr. Phil and he told some mother that she had a fish tank and no fish in the fish tank. He spent all this money on his big fancy cram no fish in it. I don't know where you're going with this. That's why your sons can't get off the drug. Reach out to Doc, Dr. Phil. Okay. All right. My thanks again to Diana rossini. I know she's busy today working on this Aaron Rodgers situation. Gilbert arenas will join us coming up next here, Dan Patrick, so.

"Think that I would have just much rather kept Kevin herder at the end of the day. I guess the like maybe you do end up recouping some of the first round pick value that you traded previously, but I don't know. Not for me. I like the Bruce brand deal. Yeah, it's a lottery protected pick, so it's not going to be crazy valuable. Fine. Bruce Brown, I like that deal for Denver. Ricky Rubio was awesome this year for Cleveland. I totally get why they're bringing him back. Fascinated to see what Cleveland does with Colin Sexton fascinating to see where Colin Sexton ends up moving forward. Matt, we obviously haven't mentioned all the max money that went out as well in terms of re signings. We should just mention Devin Booker got max money. Carl towns got max money John morant signed his deal Darius Garland, Bradley beals ack Levine, Nikola Jokić, and finally reported this morning, Zion Williamson. Williamson is the most interesting one of those to me if only because we see, we'll see what the protections are there. None of that has been reported yet. I can't imagine that that deal got done without some sort of injury protection. Et cetera. Right. My guess on that deal, slightly educated, but still a guess. Is it's going to be 5 year straight with no player option. I think that's the big thing that the pelicans wanted to avoid. Just so they would have more control over the design contract. And I think the injury protections, I wouldn't be surprised if they're much more limited because they can see that the player option. And so wouldn't be surprised if it's just like an exhibit exhibit three on Zion's foot. So if you reinjure your foot again, we're protected, but if you miss games because you broke a finger or sprained the wrist or whatever, you're not going to lose any money for that. So that's my anticipation, but when David Griffin did the Brandon Ingram negotiations, he held the structure of that contract pretty closely to his chest until the press conference for when for the announcement of the contract and at the press conference, he said, Brandon was so all the way in with us. He decided not to, you know, he decided not to take a player option. And that's when that was announced, and I assume Griffin will do the same thing. I also think that if CAA had one that negotiation, they would be parading it a little bit. They got a fully guaranteed deal without injury. They would have leaked it on their part, but who knows? Maybe there's a really good relationship there and they all both are like, okay, we won't say anything until it's time to..

"On the wing and at the center position. All right, now Ricky Rubio. Again, we've been talking about this for months. Ricky Rubio would probably ultimately wind up back in Cleveland. And here we are. Now I don't recall off top of my head. Is he expected to be ready for the start of the season? No, no, it sounds like probably January, maybe February. Okay. So we're talking mid season ish. He was a good fit there just being kind of that veteran steady ball handle that you can put in there. So maybe if you're a Cleveland, you're looking at him and thinking, all right, we get him fully ramped up and integrated sometime close, maybe a month to go until the playoffs or something. They're feeling pretty good about that. Yeah, absolutely. And related, we'll skip down a couple raul meteor was signed to. And my guess is that's the cover for Rubio missing the first part of the season. They're going to have natto out there basically handling exactly what Rubio would do for them. And then Robin Lopez heads off to the calves because, you know, if there's anything the Cavs needed was more size. So I think Cleveland, what I really think happened here is they do not want to get into a situation like they did last year where they have multiple injuries up front and then they're playing two way guys and guys they signed off the street and those kind of things. So they want to really be well covered in case of injury and now I mean they've these are three very solid veteran death signings. And I'm going to guess Colin Sexton is ends up back in Cleveland because the market is really kind of drying up for sex then to go anywhere else. So yeah, I do think that's where he'll land back. But yeah, I like all three of these moves for the caps, especially consumer minor costs. Somebody asked them to chat towards ACL at one point. Yeah, I mean, Colin Sexton, I suppose, I mean, I guess they're clearing enough cap space. I haven't looked at their cap sheet, but Utah could make a big run at the pacers could. Depending on I just don't think any of them are going to agree. That's the thing. There's some teams out there that could, but I don't think they will. Then you would also need to get to a really big number for the Cavs, not to match. And then I think you start to now we doing a contract we even regret signing just to get them off to match..

"Everybody yells and screams and I shouldn't have done it and I get caught in it on Twitter last night in game with all the Celtics need a floor general stuff. People love to say that, but nobody ever says who? And then when they do, they're like, they need a Chris Paul type. Chris Paul is one of one. It's not Chris Paul types. There's Chris Paul, and then there's everybody else. It's crazy to me. I mean, we just covered in our last show, show before last. Whenever it was, we just covered all the free agent point guards, and now you could go trade for somebody, of course. But it's these old school run the offense floor generals that people think they need. They just don't really exist. And if they do, like Ricky Rubio, coming off a torn ACL at 32 and he can't shoot. So his Ricky Rubio is going to be playable in the end of a playoff game. Where are we going with that? That's what's tough. So as I look at everything, this team needs, I'm going to say that not that there couldn't be improvements. Marcus smart is not a top ten point guy. I'm not being stupid, but to get reasonable improvements. I don't know that you're going to upgrade much on the starting 5. But you can add bench guys. In order to do that, they're going to have to be pretty expensive. They're going to have to go deep into the tax. They have a $17 million trade exception that they can use. They will have the taxpayer MLE. They can use. You can go get players with those. Really round out your rotation and be ready to go. Because of how poor the free agent class is, both of those are really nice tools. Especially the taxpayer mid level. You know, because I've been saying it about the Lakers, that's kind of their only tool this summer, but it's a good one because it has good spending power because there's not a lot of cap space around the league. So you should be able to pick off a pretty useful player. Boston's in the same place. But unlike Golden State, Brooklyn, Milwaukee, even this past year, we'll see where they go, going forward, the Lakers when they're really good. The clippers obviously now, the Celtics have put a limit on how far into the tax or if they're even willing to go into the tax. They have always said, if we're a title contender, we'll pay the tax. Well, we'll pay the taxes a lot different from will pay hundreds of millions of dollars in this tax, right? So that's, but test it, right? We got to find out, what is that? Is that we'll go 10 million into the tax? We'll go 15 million into the tax. Whatever it is, because clearly now, you can't even make the case that all are not really a title contender. You were just there correctly. You're there. You got to spend the money now and see where it goes. Absolutely. Yeah, that's just it. They've proven that they're a title contender. And so now there's no excuse for not spending..

"Booker MVP bandwagon thing for a long time. I had them forth. I really I appreciated how special that suns team was really you were one of the first people I heard talking about it. Like, hey, it's not just that they're beating teams. They're toying with them. They are laying on these 20 to 5 runs in these 25 to three runs and stuff like that. When do you think it shifted for Booker this season? I think it really shifted for them to be quite honest Bill when Ricky Rubio came. And making Rubio, I think, taught him to trust him that he didn't always have to have the ball. It's almost similar to what Phil Jackson did with Michael Jordan was starting pivot. And I think, you know, Ricky Rubio and Monty convinced him that it doesn't matter how many touches you get, the touches that you do get are going to be tremendous. And you're scoring average is going to be good. And you're going to win games. And I think Devin bought into it because he was tired of losing. He knew he could school anybody. And he just said, okay, I'm going to give that a shot. Matter of fact, he told money. I want to be coast. That was exact words to my team with Martin took the job. He said, I want to be coast. And that's what he's done. And Devin has adhered to it. And it's turned out to be a tremendous run for him. And I think that's when it turned around. And then Chris Paul just took it to a new level. Well, that's the thing. You talk about young players, right? So he gets Rubio in there who's unselfish as a vet gets Monty Williams who easily could have gone to the Lakers and boy would he be miserable right now. And then you get Chris Paul who's one of the great unselfish teammates of his generation. A little difficult to play with if you're the wrong guy, I think for Booker, he just wants to play with people who are wired like Chris Paul, Booker is. So it gets these three people. What happens if he doesn't mean any of these people? What happens if he's just on Phoenix and let's say they're the Sacramento Kings with what's happened with them or they're just to bring them more lottery picks in. It never works. The coach keeps changing. The GM keeps changing and bookers just basically the deer and fox in the situation. Does he still have an ascent? What does it look like? I think he probably would have been gone. And that would any player, right? I mean, if they find that things aren't going to work out, you know, and they don't think they're going to be able to get guys in there to help raise them to a new level. They start thinking about leaving that particular team. And that was my fear. Because I know how good he is. From the first moment, people the son's uniform and Jeff holder said was like trying to delete inevitable and starting and him being the guy. You can just tell in a few minutes that he got that this kid is going to be special. And so this organization needed Chris Paul Bill. They needed Chris Paul to just balance Devin and show him the other side of success and not chasing it just based on your numbers. And it's taking him to a great level. It's funny when you know early with the young guys because Tatum was like that for the Celtics. It would just became clear, pretty quickly. Like, oh, this one, this.

"All right, I want to move on for a second. And I want to talk about Cleveland. And the belief I'm starting to have that maybe the calves could come out of the east. I don't know. Maybe that's a little bit extreme at this point, but they go out and they sign carriers levert, are they trade for caris levert from Indiana? They give up only the contracted Ricky Rubio was up with the season with an ACL injury. They give up a first round pick, which I would argue Karis levert is better than whatever mid level first round pick that Cavaliers were going to have there. Ryan, I love that deal for Cleveland. We'll see how he fits on the court, but Karis levert's always been kind of a team guy and I'm a fan of that deal and that just makes the Cavaliers that much stronger. When you look at that starting lineup, or whatever the 6, 7 man rotation, you stack it up with most teams in the Eastern Conference. They're right there. So maybe they're too inexperienced to win at the highest level, but talent wise, they're right up there. The Cleveland's done a great job. Kobe Altman and JB bickerstaff and their group in the front office and on the sideline they've done a phenomenal job and guys that was actually on air support of my gig with Odyssey earlier today in Cleveland and we were marveling at how quickly they have turned things. I mean keep in mind, this team was 22 and 50 last year in the 72 game season. They picked toward the top of the lottery. They got a guy who I think is going to be a superstar in Evan mobley. In fact, I'm predicting that mobile is going to win multiple defensive player of the year awards. That's how disruptive I think he will be on the defensive end, especially as his body fills out. He needs to add strength in develop a little bit, but he's going to be a monster. I think on both ends, especially defensively, Darius Garland has taken a big step this year. He made the all star team. He's one of the more skilled guards in the league and he's smart. He can dribble. He can pass. He can shoot. So really, I think the weakness if they had one, was on the wing..

"As much of a fun sports weekend as it was with football and everything. We had some rough time in Lakers land, the U.S. men's national team decided they didn't feel like playing soccer this weekend. That one got me, man. I was so angry yesterday because I'm just, you know, let's move. I don't want to go on a soccer today. They better win almost Wednesday. If they don't, I'm going to, I don't even know what I'm going to do. I'm going to lose it entirely, because it's just, you know, now they should win Wednesday they're at home. Against the bottom of the table team, it should be a win, but I mean, this team is just a disgusting. It grows. All right. Derrick Rose expected back after the all star break, hopefully that gives the Knicks a little bit of help there and who knows, maybe the Knicks make a move before we even get to that point. But the rough news and Keith did are just watching this was difficult. Joe ingles. Looks like he's probably out for the almost certainly. Based on what we saw, that's really, really tough. I guess before we get into all the trade ramifications of this because what does this mean for Joe ingles the basketball player? Yeah. I hate to ever say this about any athlete because you don't know with this, but like Klay Thompson, right? Suffered two what used to be almost career ending or certainly career altering injuries. You know, back to back, but he was still young enough where you're like, he's gonna get back. He'll be okay. I look at Joe ingles. I mean, he's 34 now. He'll be 35 at the start of next season. That's tough. Yo, 35 with coming off, well, it's just going off what the folks who kept watching those videos and usually get it right pretty quick. Probably a torn ACL. That's tough. There's already the rumors out there that he might be not retiring, but maybe done with the NBA, maybe go back and play in Australia. At the end of his career, like Bo get didal of has done, that may be where he was headed. But yeah, I mean, that's just brutal. Brutal for the jazz because he's been just kind of a mainstay for them to do this whole rise. He's been there for 7 years, and that's kind of coincided with them, getting back to being a good team. And they're struggling now. They just had it. Here it is. They've lost 5 in a row. They've lost. I want to say ten out of their last 13 or something like that. And they are now in the distance. Games are unbalanced, but they're still in fourth, but they're only in the lost column, they're tied with the nuggets and they're only a game up on the Mavericks. At this point, so that starting to get into danger territory of slipping out of home court advantage. So on the trade front, he's a $14 million expired contract. Now we're talking Ricky Rubio territory here where he's an expiring contract that you can move, but a team can no longer put any value towards him because he's not going to help you on the floor..

"Contract. Let's say the calves decided, you know what? We really like Ricky Rubio. We want to keep him. We'd like to hang on to him. Is there a path for them to trade him? And then go after him in free agency. Well, you'd have the whole one year. Well, he'd be becoming a free agent. So it wouldn't be getting waived. Yeah, maybe. I mean, it depends on which direction they go. What happens with columns? And where do you go with that? But yeah, I mean, I guess what you could do there is you could go sign him to a new deal as a free agent using the MLE or a chunk of it for only one year and then give them a bump and pay off of that. Because the reality is Rubio and his age with this injury would have maybe a ten to $12 million a year player. Probably ideally, you'd start them around that maybe even as high as 13 and then have it decline. Year over year. So it's finishing under ten. By the time he's a what he'd be 34, 35 years old. At the end of a four year deal. So yeah, I mean, maybe that is something you consider doing is saying, hey, we're going to trade you now to really help us, but we are open. We'd love to have you come back. Next year, because the reality is really tore the ACL here in late December. So we're looking at a maybe early December return at most, probably closer to a January 20, 23. Return on next season because it's generally been about a year for these injuries. So yeah, I don't hate that idea at all is one of those where it's a wink and a nod as you walk. Or you have to have your cake and eat it too in that scenario. If you say, look, we liked what Rubio brought. We'd like to have him in our organization, our culture, all those sorts of things. You could still use that contract without completing completely closing the door on him coming back to the franchise. But I think maybe the better discussion topic that was, who do you go after? Who's your target if you're gonna let's say whether you use the Rubio salary or not or whoever you're gonna do, what's the ideal target that number one is a good fit and number two is realistically attainable. They couldn't get off from you. Some would say the show just got a lot better. Yeah, I mean, you want to dream big and think Ben Simmons, right? That's kind of your dream big, but realistic targets. I think it's a little trickier because..

"Hello everybody, welcome back to the NBA front office show. Keep you up to date with everything going on around the world of the NBA and a new intro that we threw in there for YouTube. If you guys haven't had a chance to check that out, make sure you do go check out our YouTube channel. Don't forget, of course, to hit that subscribe button, Keith Smith, joining me Keith. I hate that we kind of have to start today's show with a negative story involving, of course, Ricky Rubio. Yeah, it feels like every thing lately is negative stories. It's either somebody's heard or guys are out due to COVID and health and safety protocols and there are good fun stories that are coming out of that, some of these blasts from the past returns and young guys get chances they might not have gotten otherwise trying to stay positive on that note. But we don't have a lot of trade news to break down because there's not trade stuff happening right now, but we're 6 weeks from today from the trade deadline. So even in normal times, it'd be a little early. Yeah, we're probably still about a good three, four weeks from things really picking up. But yeah, the Rubio injury just brutal. It's going to be out for the year for the Cleveland Cavaliers. We found that out yesterday after his MRI, two point guards down for the calves or I guess Colin Sexton at this point. But yeah, but yeah, to main guards to big parts of their rotation. And that's probably the weakest part of their rotation now. It's Darius Garland. He's in health and safety protocols. So that'll be at least a short term absence. So Kevin pangos is getting a call or a call to start their game tonight. But yeah, it's just a mask for the caps right now. So hopefully, we'll see, but I guess what we want to get into is does this make it more likely to do something and make some kind of trade or something like that? Yeah, I mean, look, so Rubio and we should mention it's a torn ACL for him. So he's going to cost him the rest of the season. And he was one of the success stories of the year. He was one of the guys that we looked at and said, well, this is a little bit of a funky fit, what's gonna happen? Maybe maybe he'll be bought out by the deadlight maybe he'll be on the market. That's the way we kind of went into the season thinking about it and the cabs have shocked everybody. They've been great and Rubio has certainly been part of that. And now it's yeah, and he's been phenomenal. But now with him gone, the calves, they've tasted success. And they're not going to want to just let that go. Even though they've lost call and Sexton, Nauru bio. So I do think this makes them more likely to go out there and swing a trade. I don't know that it's the home run trade, though. I mean, you think about we instantly go, oh, well, John wall is out there, right? Do you stack up some contracts and you go, you know, maybe you part with Kevin Love and you go try to make something work for a guy like John wall or something like that. I don't know if that's what they need or if they just need kind of a game manager that can come in that can do a few things for them that can keep the ship afloat and let Darius Garland just basically run the rest of the show..

"The clippers to me are interesting. Especially when it comes to being in the mix for Kyrie Irving. Look at the salaries on the clippers. Like they've got a bunch of guys that could make the money work, right? If the nets ultimately say, we want to just get a bunch of pieces, right? You could get either Eric Bledsoe or Reggie Jackson, whichever one of them that you'd actually want. You could add Marcus Morris into the mix who's been good in the playoffs before, kind of a versatile guy, plays two positions. Maybe there's a sweetener there that the clippers can throw in. And the clippers are probably destination Kyrie want to go to, which is something we haven't talked about in all this, because Kyrie is going to hold some power here where if he says, you know what? I don't want to play there. I'll sit out the rest of the season a lot of my contract to go play somewhere else. So that's a conversation you have to have with him if you're a team looking to acquire him. But Los Angeles, playing with Paul George, eventually, if not this season next season playing with Kawhi Leonard deep pockets in Steve Ballmer, I don't know, you'd need the nets to have that mindset where they just say screw it. Just give me pieces that work. Clippers can kind of offer that. They can kind of throw you some versatile guys that might make some sense in your rotation. I agree. The clippers were on my buyer list. They are the fourth best team in the NBA in defense based on defensive efficiency rating at the moment, but 25th in offense. And look, that's the no mystery why that is, you're missing Kawhi Leonard, you know, one of the best players in the league. Paul George and reg Jackson, the rest of this group to their credit have been competitive. They've been respectable, but we don't know when Kawhi is coming back or if he's even going to get back this season with the ACL recovery. Getting a guy like Kyrie, first of all, go get a point guard period. Like I think if they can upgrade at point guard period just another playmaker out there, Reggie Jackson and so these guys are good players, but they're scores more than anything. You know, I could see them even being a good landing spot for Goran dragach if that deal comes to pass. We don't know why drug getches away from the raptors right now. Ricky Rubio, if the Cavaliers decide to move off of him, like the clippers just need everybody wants Ricky ruby right now. Everybody's looking around going like, why didn't we go after Ricky Rubio? The clippers are another team too. Like the defense is already pretty good, but they're another team that I was like toying with like are they the miles Turner destination?.

"Yeah, no, no. All right, finish things up. How much help does Steph Curry need? The warriors, the warriors, wanted we're hoping that Ricky Rubio would get bought out. I don't think that's gonna happen no in Cleveland. They've been too good, but they were hoping that Rubio would get bought out by the calves and that they could pounce and bring him to Golden State. Yeah, I mean, one is you're absolutely right. It's not gonna happen. I don't have a legitimately good. Despite being without calling Sexton, this is starting to turn into one of those man. I wish he hadn't gotten hurt because did what I made a real difference. But yeah, it was the thought around the league was they're acquiring Rubio, they already have Garland and Sexton. They've got that point guard master to figure out, yeah, he's probably just going to get bought out. This was an asset play or whatever it was, clear up the cap, blah, blah, blah. But they acquired them because they wanted them. They thought he could really help them and he really has. But yeah, the warriors my guess is, if you look at the warriors still today, the hole that they have, they don't have any kind of backup point guard. Now, is it that big of a hole? Because when Steph sits, they tend to run the entire offense to draymond. And that's fine. And you're talking about somebody who's going to play maybe ten minutes per game. In meaningful games, but it made sense that they were looking insane. Yeah, hey, we could grab Ricky Rubio. Why not? Right? I mean, and as you said, I want help to Steph Curry need. You know, we talked about Goran dragach to the Mavs earlier. I win the warriors be a great landing spot for him as well if he does wind up getting bought out would make a lot of sense there. I do think they need another good because let's say stuff curry God forbid, let's say that he tweaks an ankle or something. And he's out a week or two. The warriors don't have a lot of other ball handlers to turn to because you're not going to play a full game with point draymond. No. You're maybe putting the ball in the hands of Jordan Poole or something like that about cool Gary Payton. Yeah, those guys, but they're not true point guards. So I think it does make sense for them to land somebody. It wouldn't surprise me if it's somebody that they get on the bio market here when that heats up in a few months. Yeah, I think their challenge now is coming into roster spots more than anything because they kind of use all of that guys. Quite a bit. I mean, kuminga moody or two of the Lauren gasmet there were both first round picks. So they're clearly not going anywhere. Maybe Damien Lee, but he's had his moments for them. Peyton's played well. And then after that, if you look at it, there's no easy cut to make to free upper oster spot. But yeah, if someone like dragged shakes free and says, hey, I'm interested. You're at least going to take a call. Just push minor note on this. They're one of the few teams that uses their two way positions to kind of double up..

"About a week off now because we finally finished up. All of our season preview pods seasons here man. It feels like it's already been a month and a half. I think it's been a week and a half But through a lot of games about seven for most of the eastern conference hitting five or six for the west. I don't know why staggered like that. It's been annoying but to break it all down hit on a lot of stuff early season. A lot of small sample size schnee joined by my good friend and great basketball mine jackson. Frank jackson harry doing man. I'm doing well. I'm excited to talk. I definitely agree. That feels like it's been a month and a half and it's only been a week. We can. I guess. But i'm excited. Yeah i feel like you know we at least a little bit of a sample now. We're we're getting farther and farther in doing so. I think six six six and the patriots seven to seven so when it hit ten i think you kind of actually build on that and and for us is writer who actually wrote a little bit beyond just a little bit religiously. This is interesting. We have a little more little more be more. Concrete in our advance obviously not concrete. But yeah will you don't hedge asthma. It's fun to have a bigger sample. Exactly yeah i have like half of a notebook Ready for this. But i haven't been anything yet because it's just like well i mean is ricky rubio. Still going to be shooting league average on threes in in two weeks. I'm not sure but he seems like he's going to but i don't know it just depends on whether or not happened so i agree man. It's kind of like a lot of wait and see and hopefully we get something. But i you and i both on the same thing. I frontloaded the shit out of this. And i have watched probably almost much basketball. It's been great feel By by the end of each day. I think i've watched like five games and was like i'm tired like i can't get tomorrow but we both pretty good deal to start the year. I mean the only thing that i really have not paid close attention to yet are seen one game of okay. She and houston. And that's the only. I haven't really gotten a good viewing of every other team. I feel pretty solid so far. They're allowed teams. I have questions about which is why we're doing this today But yeah man. I'm psyched to jump in. I think a good place to start with.

"Just sitting there like. He's probably fast forward through the pass. Thirty seconds conversation said his name. But elliott writes in Is there precedent in the nba for a move as widely criticized the lakers trading for westbrook. And then having it actually work or given the level of criticism we should know it will fail. elliott than sites Chris paul going to houston a few years ago which you just brought up on And a lot of people wondering if there was enough you know there's only one ball was i always. That was a really stupid way to look at it. But that was a thing that a lot of people said before it happened and lo and behold they should have won the title that year. If chris paul did not get hurt so obviously that that was success for them. This was a fun one. And the i i also had a difficult time kind of coming up with a bunch but the first example that i had was also chris paul but chris paul to phoenix coming from. Okay see. I recall when that trade went down. People were like so chris. Paul's contract is going to take-up phoenix's cap space for the next year. I'm just like what are these people talking about like like have you. Are you watching this man play basketball. Have you watched the phoenix suns for the past ten years. Who are they signing. That would be better value than chris. Paul right now. I understand the timelines and everything and no one even me expected them to go to the finals or anything like that but i do recall thinking like a lot of these pieces fit now. Everything comes into place. They were moving on from ricky rubio. Who had a lot of success. But you know you. Ricky rubio's achilles heel is. You can't really play them off bulletin. And that was trouble with devon booker and everybody and chris paul is one of the better spot up three point shooters we've seen so that just that never made a ton of sense to me at all i was. I was very high on that. Move when it happened. And it worked out. Swimmingly for the phoenix suns. Yeah i wi. I gotta say elliot. That's a great call about kris going to houston. Because you know..

"I am pseudo routing primarily for australia. Like i i. I'm kinda rooting for nigeria. Got first of all. They're loaded up with heat culture in precious to engage visit. You can just see the heat culture flowing through their veins. They're an exciting team. That was a fun when they had their fun team. So yeah you seem. Precious pulled up in those threes from the top of the key. Just boosting up his trade value. Before the summer pat riley loving it Yeah no but i'm with you there like some really fun and national teats spain rudy. Fernandez is still playing for spade. That's incredible it is so is how tall that i was stunned. That i'm not gonna lie but shut up to him. Show that the markelle saul. Ricky rubio always looks so my favorite rubio is spain basketball ricky rubio and that's another thing like the international teams like the non. Us eighteen so much more fun and like a way better collection of that guy so playing. Like that's what i want. That's what i look forward to. My last note is i honestly I honestly when i watch. Jason tatum playing team usa. I'm like super excited. That he is a starter on the team and all that and he's become a top twelve player in the world. But i'm also kind of like i really like i'm watching. The rue like my fingers. Like i the possibility of an injury i just like. I can't if he gets injured. I just don't even want to say it out loud. But that's in the back of my head when i watch him on team. Usa and it makes me very anxious. So i i can't even really do it that closely. So that's basically my take right now until you say. Just be healthy jason tatum. That's all we care about. Come home safe. Speaking of you're gonna love this transition speaking of being safe okay and staying healthy. We gotta talk about quiet letters acl surgery. Hey okay yeah. That was a pro's pro triple rounded ten. You might as well it is like a blur of that from moving across the screen Okay so collide lennart you know. There was speculation when he hurt his knee that it was related to the acl and those initial reports came to be true as he had surgery to repair partially torn. Acl suffered in the second round against the utah jazz We don't know what the timetable is. Necessarily that will keep out of action but if you look at some other players who've suffered similar injuries in the past it could go between six months and a full year. Frankly which would not be good news for the los angeles clippers so as all of our listeners. Now i'm sure kawhi. Leonard is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent. Shitty shoes and my question to you. Ronan is basically you know now that we have the information regarding his knee and we have a clear idea of just serious. It is if he ops out and Just wants the max immediately. If you're the clippers just what what position do you see yourself being in Is it harder for you to you know. Immediately print out the contract and give him the panir. Is there any second guessing whatsoever. Just what are you thinking about with with with co Asian right now..

Come on come on. The Danny special. Yeah but you know that's that that you know I could see them you know I'm a big game and and being in the game and you know what, eight minutes to go and you know now and then Spain who of course was a big threat. The last two times out because saw brother, still hanging around. Yeah. Not playing a whole lot but they're still making money as forty and Marcus. You know and and and and they have Rudy Fernandez think of Ricky Rubio and they got her name. Her name is Evelina. Gomez, are you? Are you worried? Like how concerned are you? That this is going to be a kotak cuz if they don't win gold, they're going to be part of birth. How many jokes I can't see a losing today. I'm looking at these rosters. That's why I dug up these monsters, who might cut down, my what country is stacked in up the way France and waste Spain was telling us, you know, two great games and both Beijing and London. It was like three minutes ago with the game out in the game. Ain't over folks. Were we got a hump, the win this game and do you think that France robberies the roster should be able to do it? I you think that Australian Lobster should be able to quit. And if we're playing on right way, I, I'll be mortified, right? I just feel like I said, you're bringing in like Booker in Middleton. Two guys. Who can score we know at a high level like you need that. I mean, you got Kevin Durant, gave me a Lillard Jason but I want you know, doesn't mean it would mean, the rent wouldn't have to play 38 minutes. That's all, you know, duplicate forty-minute game. So, you know, you know, who should be on this team. You know, he should be in the same. Honestly, you'd be perfect for this group. Mike Conley. Oh you'd be perfect. What came out there for thirty minutes with Force cause nobody better than Mike Conley. Now, again, he's not like the level of Defenders, your holidays. So either one of those guys but, he's just like past first, like just a great team guy, doesn't need, you know, to score. So like I would have been happy with your holiday Mike Conley Point cards. That's right. Well, That's interesting. Yeah, you're right. I can't argue that. I cannot get I like, I like the idea cuz it seems Mister. So full of scorers, you don't need a score necessarily like Damian Lillard foul ball in his hands all the time. Dribble, dribble, dribble. That's true. And and well so we're going to say what what and how about our boy Tatum has? He seemed fitting into this. I mean again listen, I think the expectations for him, you know, like pop I think was trying to see, like he's the face of, he's not yet the Kevin Durant still on this team, you know, like until Kevin Durant. He's just he's the base of it. Oh yeah, so let's not try to make Jayson Tatum into something, he's not yet. Now again in four years. Yes, Jason Tatum I think will be the face of of Team USA in four years, he's not married yet. Now, I just thinking out loud here in my eyes were speaking..

"Yeah, I don't know how DeAngelo is going to play. I just kind of want to say a couple of things about Edwards for you get to that. I think the big thing that sucks is translated for him that we all expected to translate, but it's really important to see. It have translated is that when he does choose to drive, the way that he kind of changes explosiveness into power and power into explosiveness. He initiates contact and goes through guys. When he wants to wage It's not just like oh yeah like you know I'm going to I'm going to try and absorb a little bit of this contact here. Know he's like going into guys and going up through like real life in protectors and part of the problem is he hasn't really have any craft yet around the basket for drawing fouls but I think that that's the kind of stuff you can learn like it's really really hard. Kind of like you said at the table here to find guys that have this intersection of explosiveness and power that also have this level of body control and can decelerate, right? Like off all three of those things together make it so that if he ever does learn to shoot, it's going to be curtains. I think like it's going to be unbelievable if he really learns to shoot, but you're right. Like right now, he doesn't shoot it. Well, he's taken 321, pull up, jumpers this year and half court settings, he's made them at home. 28.3% clip like that's gross. Yeah, that's I went back. It is gross. I went back actually and went year-by-year looking at the players who who finished off that shooting volume 30% or below. And there were only like two or three examples of players climbing out of it was like John Wall climbed out of it and had a couple Seasons. This is I'm just trying to remember off top my head. I think Ricky Rubio usually if you shoot at that volume early in your career and at that bad and efficiency. You just basically just don't get to do it ever. Again, that's kind of the way it works. You're either like a topic that they really need your high out outcome to play out or you just don't get the opportunity to do it again, but I think you're absolutely right that. Like the the sort of template that he's shown in terms of like getting to the basket like his shot, allocation has really improved from from Georgia to to hear. Yep. To Minnesota and I think that the, the free-throw production is, I don't even know what cap I would put on it. Like, he could, he could become a major, major producer at the line, for sure. Yeah. But just kind of frankly, doesn't you know what I mean? Like, it's it's kind of maddening the way that he chooses to play the game, which, you know, is what it is. And it's always been a problem. Like, I was watching the NFL draft yesterday and I was watching The Bleacher Report coverage with Adam lefkoe and Kyle Rogers in Aqib Talib wage in one thing that they said, they kept saying it over and over again. Was, you are in college, you are in the pros. What you are in college. And I think that that's, like, not quite true with basketball because college players in football, get to the NFL at 21, 22 years old, oftentimes. Whereas in basketball, they're getting they're like, nineteen bucks. It was kind of interesting to think about it in the context of someone like Anthony Edwards, who basically has been the same guy that he was a Georgia last year..

"I take Ricky Rubio over it, but so I mean, Rubio can't score, but he's done. They'll put me in a question put put me in a position to score the truth. That's huge with them, And then you gotta not only can he score on the offensive side and and distribute, but he can defend. That's huge. You mean stopping dribble penetration, stopping all that nimbus huge and the thing I love about that movies that holiday can score but doesn't have to score. He doesn't have to be the ball dominant guy he did. He's just as happy to distribute but couldn't score when necessary, which makes him that much more David Danger. Especially with Middleton and the honest and with Brooks Lopez, who's going to still put in what he added what he's going to do. I think this Milwaukee team, I think it's I think they're they're still the best team in the East. I still will tell you this, and maybe people may think I'm crazy. I think the Brooklyn Nets are the most overrated team in the East. I will say this real quick that I think that Milwaukee is fortunate that the deal with Bogdanovich didn't work out and they keep Dante Di Vincenzo. I think even chance is gonna be a stud in this league. I like his game a lot. And I think it complements the bucks more so, then having Bogdanovich there because he shoots a lot. You've gotto take the ball out of the hands of the honest maybe too much. Brook Lopez needs to have his back to the basket. Just a little bit more. I do know he cannot get three down with regularity. Guys only have about three minutes, so jump to the West Coast and you guys tell me Who's going to Who's going to compete with your Lakers? Outside of maybe the Clippers. All right, to be honest with you and I don't say this is a fan. I just say this is that basketball guy that other teams have gotten really good. I think the Portland Trail Blazers may have taken the biggest jump in the conference, and they may be the second best team in that conference. But the gap between the Lakers and them is still huge because the Lakers off season was so amazingly wonderful keeping Davis and LeBron and getting guys like Montrose herel. And Dennis Router. Yeah. I mean, it's like said it's not being a fan. It's just looking at the looking at basketball Ongoing. This team has two of the top five players in the leak. And they're so much better than those other guys. Now you put them together and they complement each other. You're not beating me. Beating me for seven is just not gonna happen. Renard. Real quick about 30 seconds. Phoenix getting Chris Paul to come over there with Devin Booker. You got bridges Crowder Ayten. I mean, still future break for Phoenix on the futures, who is tremendous for for Phoenix. Hooker is going to get better. Johnson's going to get better eight is gonna get they're all going to get so much better plan where Chris Paul and you do that and you keep them there. That's the biggest thing now. They don't want to leave. I agree with you there and Cameron Pain's gonna learn how to, you know, distribute that ball as well from the old man. Chris Paul, who plays at a very high level. Hey, folks. Listen, If you love the MBA, you love college basketball. You're gonna get a lot of it on Wednesday. This Wednesday. Fish and chips will be live at Steiner's Andrew Fish fame. "Things are hot in phoenix and they have to be hot on a sports front because it was ninety two degrees again today. The latest. That has ever been this hot and phoenix somewhere. I think we're supposed to hit like ninety five tomorrow. So it is hot and happening and phoenix both on the sports front and just the warm weather front that being said sons. You're already pretty excited about the suns to begin with and now he got chris. Paul come to town. Well you know. Sons are in the midst of an eight game win. Streak you know other bubble team could say that. No other bubble team did that well and miss the playoffs but You know sons. I got a little bit of bonus basketball after the covid break they you know they got the bubble in orlando. Stick around for the playoffs. So they've had a little bit of a longer. Offseason i th. I'm sure that they're ready to go. And you put chris paul on the suns. You put the sons against the lakers on christmas day. you know. it's it's got some banana boat reunion on. I think it's a big deal for the sons. Were going anywhere with rookie. Ricky rubio and then dot the andrea. They're going to build around booker in eight and here I it goes far. As a short term solution. They gave up The up a little bit to get them. But i think the basketball should be exciting here. I think that they'll do a good job building on a pretty promising season. Your remember you know you have to go way back. You have to go back almost a year now To deandra eight and being suspended for twenty five games and yeah that's what did the sons then. They played their hearts out in the bottle. In third very promising team in the western conference or the contender. They're not but i think that they'll give golden state and the lakers a little bit of a raw. The clippers are dead in the west and Villas sons have a chance to penetrate through. I think that there are playoff team this year. How far they go Really depends on how well they're playing when the playoffs rolled around

Ricky Rubio nets triple-double, Russell Westbrook says it won't happen again
"Honestly consider yourself lucky first and last year on espn radio and the espn app reacting to strong performances reacting to strong stimulus also happen for oklahoma city's russell westbrook and their series against the utah jazz ricky rubio went out here and caught this triple double right in russell westbrook's face and russ was none too happy about it next game guaranteed it okay okay russell westbrook not a fan and listen the utah jazz i believe it was the end of the longest drought inbetween triple doubles carlos boozer the author if i'm not mistaken one who saw a window of the last utah triple double i believe that was what i saw the other day and ricky rubio who has been one of my stars of the playoffs guy who was reinvented his look went back in you can reinvent yourself with very few pieces in the modern age he did it with tattoos and longer hair but going out and frustrating russell westbrook in that way russell westbrook a guy with as much pride in his performance as his wardrobe going out there and getting frustrated by this responding and reacting and now we know that his reaction never going to be quite as measured as lebron james because russ counters everything with max effort and sometimes that doesn't necessarily work and sometimes does this feeds into of the larger examples of this that exist going forward in the playoffs now because you wonder how you count iraq certain things for the teams that are at the top of the nba pecking order right now because no disrespect oklahoma city but that's not a team i think that has that championship ceiling right now in the landscape of the western conference if the other teams perform to the level that we believe they're capable.
