"People, great to work with, and there's no safe, like simply safe. Last call for phone calls, what we learned what's in store tomorrow, this day in sports history, college football coming up tonight, you know, I love a good Tuesday night, Mac gamer two. Big slight Dan, Bowling Green versus Toledo. That's a big one. It is. And Bowling Green four and two in the Mac, Toledo 5 and one in the Mac, Toledo could take the lead, but you're Ohio squad. It's 5 and one in the Mac. They're at ball state. Line is 57, Ohio is 5 and one in the Mac ball state three and three and also college basketball tonight. Big slate, Kentucky at Michigan state. I see that's the neutral site. That's in Indianapolis. Winthrop auburn, buffalo, Yukon, Gardner Webb, both of them at North Carolina. San Diego state Stanford duke versus Kansas also an indie bam over Kansas Bill self the self imposed four game suspension. Yes, he will not be present. Alabama at south Alabama and Dayton. Dan Dayton's 21st in the country. At UNLV. Late night. That's fun. What country is that? By the way, had a friend of family friend who passed away recently played at Dayton and was one of the first recruits Don Donahue ever had. In fact, Don Donahue at Dayton got him instead of 8 offer up at Kentucky, George janke passed away. My brother's married to his sister. He was a legendary radio executive in Dayton, Ohio, a larger than life personality, a wonderful man, and will be greatly missed. So I'm every Thanksgiving, smiling his face, came into the room. He was, he took over the room. He was 6 8, about 280, maybe even more than that. But everybody loved George janky. All right. This day in sports history, Pauly. Got a few 1901 Ricky pierce to the Seattle SuperSonics. He had a free throw streak of 75 games. Just wanted to mention Ricky pierce.

"Long story short, you know, it was a great experience. We did a lot of press leading up to the actual event. And getting to know Kobe, the 17 year old, 18 year old Kobe. It was a treat and you can see like back then, you know, the NBA was like older older guys with families and had been in the league hell. My rookie year up in Denver, I played with Daryl L is Ricky pierce and those guys. So you had those type of guys still around in the league. So it's young brash, kids stayed out of high school, come through with all that swag, man. It was just that I was excited for them, man. I can only imagine what he would be feeling, but you know, he and I hit it off and it was just a fun, fun weekend. And he actually went away with the trophy and it's funny to fast forward several years later. You know, my first existing coaching job was with the Lake. So I got the coaching from 2011, got the compete against him in the dunk contest play against him throughout our years in the league. Ultimately, coach him from 2011 to 2013 and one of the first things I said to him as we walked in the gym around training camp time in 2011, man, you know, you need to admit that, bro you know I won that contest. I can only imagine what his answer was. He was a great lie and he said, yeah, you probably did, but we'll just keep the trophy at my house. I love that. Because I'm assuming I'm assuming his famed mamba competitive spirit was already on display that day back at the dunk contest, right? People tend to forget he had 30 in that little rookie game, man. And I think they ended up giving Alan Iverson MVP for that in 97, but Kobe had 30 that game. So he could have probably walked away with two trophies that night. I bet. And then a couple years later, he's at the All-Star Game in Madison Square Garden, waving karma loan off the block saying, let me take it. I mean, unbelievable. There's a new sheriff in town. Damn straight. I baked myself now. Look, darvin, I used to call your SportsCenter highlights with Stuart Scott. We're both dating ourselves, darvin. Absolutely. No doubt about that. I've got the new Lakers head coach darvin ham here on the rich eisen show. Again, you've been in that building before as an assistant now you are the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers with, oh my gosh, what a crossroads as well for you to find yourself with this franchise. What do you just writ large consider your main job there? First up for you. Well, it's to get us back to defending. To get everybody back on the same page, sharing a load and everything for me where I've been in the last 9 years working on the coach bud. We prided ourselves on defense. Offense is subjective. I mean, you basically going to play offense based on the type of weapons you have on that side of the ball, but defense is something you can get right down there every night. And it's more objective. So the biggest thing for us from transition defense to half court defense pick and roll defense to defend without filing. And the finished defense of possessions with a defensive rebound, the whole team is the only one shot. That's going to be a big chunk of the focus to get us back to defending because it's hard as hell when you're giving up bucket after bucket after bucket and then now offensively you have to come down and play against a set defense every time you just putting a lot of pressure on yourself and even still, you know, it's just the willingness to defend the appetite to defend and the consistency to defend. I mean, it's that's something we're going to be harping on throughout. And so what was your first conversation with LeBron like and I'm assuming you've communicated this, right? Absolutely. I mean, man, we talked, we laughed, it's excitement through the phone. I mean, was mind-blowing, man. It was just, it was all positive and we talked a few times and then you hit me with a text just to get some idea how what our program is going to look like with our system on both sides of the ball is going to look like and proper form. I hit him with all the defensive stuff in the long text first and hit him with all the offense after that. And it's been great, man. He and I have been recently yesterday. I've been constant communication. Same with ros saying with AD, Russ and AD both, I've got one on one dinners with since I've been here and all of that has been positive and again, I told them I'm a challenge and defensively and try to do what I can to manage their minutes and manage their bodies. So we can be stronger as the season gets longer. And player health is at the top of another thing that's at the top of my priority list. Just being able to have those guys and well conditioned being efficient with, again, how we use them, how we their usage rates and how we practice, how we do shoot around off days, all of that. So it's going to be it's a wholehearted plan that has been proven to be effective and that which involves everything being connected. Darvin ham Lakers, head coach, new head coach right here on the rich eisen show you mentioned Anthony Davis. I'm sure you heard the conversation over the last 72 90 hours involving this stellar player.

"One's actually like there's something special about him. What's interesting about Booker, I did a bunch of pods with Durant. I probably did 6 and two years with him. And one of them, he started raving about Booker and Booker wasn't nobody at that point. I mean, he was a lottery pick he was on the suns, but the team stunk. And I think I asked him something like, what young players on your radar? Or do you think might have it? Who might have it under the and he was like, Booker. Went on this thing. You were an exporter. You played for 19 years. You were born too soon. The three point line would have made you probably an extra 100 million bucks. But do you feel like the guys who played, they see something, there's some sort of DNA thing that they can spot that somebody like me couldn't spot. Yeah, you know what you see, Bill as you see a call. You see like, a guy that understands the science of what his craft really is and in regards to dissecting this game and that's the score. He is always on balance. That's one of the first things that I saw with you. That is always unbalanced. And he rarely takes really bad stocks. Like, you know, if you're a score, you're going to take that shot. But if you watch Devin, he rarely does. But what also makes him unique and you agree with this, because I know you remember watching Ricky pierce play. Oh yeah. Is Ricky pierce love to have contact with each other. It was just something about a guy very close to you when you took your shot. And that's Devin. I mean, it's like it forces him to maybe concentrate more. That's why he probably gets into it. But when I saw that and then just the way that he approached the game and how respectful he was of the game. Like a lot of guys aren't respectful of the game. They don't know the history. They don't respect the players that they watch growing up. You know, in Devon has been all of that. He's been, I mean, he's been in my ear since he's been in Phoenix. And that's the value of where he is now. You know, and obviously Kobe took it to a new level when Kobe befriended him. Yeah. And he has just professional, man. He is one of the most professional players I've ever seen and that's why he's I love your contact point. There's like Vinnie Johnson was like that too. He needed to have somebody like basically in his Jersey and that would when he would really get going. There's certain guys that just they feed off that. I think it's something Tatum is learning how that's one of the ways I think he's gotten better this year is beating guys off the dribble and kind of keeping them on his side and knowing how to use that kind of stuff against him. The COVID thing with Booker, you know, they were beating into the ground during the playoffs last year. You know, he's not Kobe. But I think at all the guys we have now, I think there's the most kind of Kobe chromosomes floating in his pool, right? He does stuff, first of all, as you said, the competitiveness and the commitment to the craft and things like that. The fact that he doesn't take terrible shots. Kobe went through that stage, younger Kobe, when he did take turns of shots. That got better as he got older. What are the other similarities? What about like from an alpha dog hanging out in a room standpoint? What is that like? Well, yeah, I mean, he is a loner, so to speak, but this team is very close. So he's opened up now because of that. But I'll just give you something else. Well, he is relentless. Talks a lot of smack. Which I love. I also smack talker. I love that. Yeah, that was your era. Yeah, it keeps guys all balanced. Love it. But also what I love about him is he like I said, he understands now how to lead. Yeah. Like, you know, these guys always open his house. He's always in the middle of them in the midst of them. And now he understands that now that he said 8 positive things to them that it's okay for him to say some negative things. He just understands and give credit to, I think, to his upbringing. Carl's dad raised him as a basketball player. And I think that plays a role in it as well. He's special. I'm not going to say this. And so people understand why I'm pushing him because he is special. He's going to be better. And I think people are having a hard time with it because you know he's 6 four 6 5 and that's the average height in the league. We've seen guys come in the league and they can score and all of that. He has another level to get to. He truly does and he showed it when Chris Paul went down. Yeah. That was 7 cents. People don't think he can pass. He can pass the ball. He can operate in the two man game. It is a level he can get to that people have not seen. Yeah, and even beyond the assist, what impressed me about that stretch was he was kind of game managing. You know, it's one thing to be like, okay, I'm now going to dribble the ball up and I'll throw you the ball, but he actually and Tatum had something he developed to this year, this ability to kind of see what the defense is doing. They're going to play probably Brooklyn and round one. And Brooklyn's just going to trap the shit out of him from 40 feet, right? And I think he's going to be able to solve that as a series goes along because his hoops IQ has just gotten better and better. I see the same with bookers. His feel for the game has gotten that. I'm sorry. I'm so proud of him. Yeah. He knows it. No, he knows he doesn't have to take 25 shots. Right. Like I was trying to tell these young guys, this is the guy that played a role. I started my first four years, but after that, I came off the bench and I made a living at it. And like I tell these young guys, man, it's a science and scorn. You don't have to rush it. If you get the minutes, you will get your numbers. Right. I mean, that's just the beauty of it. And an all time great figure that out. You can go to any old time breakdown score. You will see. If he gets 30 minutes, he's going to get his average because he understands how to do it. Well, ice was the best example of that ever. I think back then when you went to see ice and person, they didn't have the scoreboard with the points..

"There for the Cougars. 24 tackles already. Meanwhile, they take on ASU and I like Ricky Pierce saw this guy is like a triple threat there for the Sun Devils were shot. Wait at the back field. They've got Wilson and Bunkley Shelton as well pretty good receivers Butler and so I'll pretty good rule linebackers as well. For a sus you on the road minus 3.5 52 total from Provo. I like the spot there's on state catching BYU off their biggest one in a while. I mean, if you watch the game, that's up. I like the one Super Bowl. So, uh, play against BYU and that spot castle like the under eye. Just motif defense is Have the advantage of the opponents are the opposing offenses. Both teams coaches are conservatives so under for me as well. Iowa state brought partying company off that disastrous turnover performance at home. The Cyclones losing the sidewalk trophy to Iowa and again as Brad told you, Iowa only 177 yards of total offense but still found a way to get it done with their solid defence brief hall. He's got to do better than what he's done. 39 carries 1 38 on the grounds got a couple touchdowns. He's a good receiver out of the backfield as well. And they did get tight and Charlie Koller back last week to help out Wilson and Milton. As far as receiving wise will McDonald the fourth leading the way with that Iowa state defense. They have a solid linebacking corps as good as anybody's in the country and then decors. Is a guy that also Can help out there with broad party He got in for a little bit of action. Their backup quarterback for you know, V. Doug Broomfield. You know, he goes back and forth with Rogers. But Broomfield is the guy now because he can run he can throw. They've yet to throw a touchdown pass. Charles Williams been the workhorse. They don't really have much of a receiving game right now. But I do like the way that women plays that linebacker position and A jockey as well. Those guys 39 tackles between them for the Rebs Rebs recovered against Arizona State. Now they're going to catch 32 a half up to 33 some places at Allegiant Stadium 52 a half the total bread. I didn't play it. I'll be in attendance. I they don't have more fans than you and I'll be. But I like that kind of number on the road. Uh, but I'm not betting on your only either until I could status of the quarterback. Fresno State at U C L. A Fresno State. Uh Catching 10.5 up to 11. Some places are it's stated 11. That's where it's hit. 63 63 a half the total Ronnie Rivers and Jordan memes in the backfield. They've got killing a cropper. We've fallen Pope, decent receivers. I like Jake Hainer. I think the youngster has got eight touchdowns. No pics has done a great job for Fresno State, and they were that close to beating Oregon. I mean, can you imagine how deflated Oregon would have been going into the horseshoe? Instead they go in there. They're sky high because they came back beat Fresno. They're missing three defensive starters, including Thibodeau, and they get the win over Ohio State. Fresno State that closer to winning up at Autzen Stadium. U C L A off of by Remember that Sharpen a transfer from Michigan and they've got dull. Such an excellent tight end Kyle Phillips, not a bad receiver. It's going to be a good one. But U C l A. To me is a team that I don't want to get in front of as much as I respect, president stated Spanish, his team in for instance, state maybe without their starting center whose dad passed away and, uh, 63 63 a half is the total. Where you going on this one. I'd like you feel, um you know, I like both teams want to bet on both teams. But, you know, I thought there was slight value on the Bruins. I think they you know that it was good that they had to buy after the big one against L issues so Dragon Knights will reset for him. Just think they're not blind experiments. They beat up president there well, but there you go in the last game, Santa's a state minus seven now across the board, where a lot of 6.5 but seven now Coming off the bye at San Jose State. Next article, Tyler and Evans in the backfield, along with good, solid tight end Derek East Junior, But Santa's a state they you know they lose the USC, they beat Southern Utah. A team that also went down and played a issue and then Hawaii with Cordero will try and take care of business. It's the fourth game already for Hawaii. They day Hunter in the backfield. Not bad. He's a dual threat out of the backfield. Martin and Turner and Jared Smart needs to do more because Martin and Turner of done their job, but Jared Smarts been quiet. Compared to those two on LaSalle has 19 taxes to lead the Rainbow Warriors. They are catching seven at home 62 from Honolulu. Numbers fair. It's right on my number at seven. So, uh, don't that for me? All right, real quick. Just your take FCS FBs games. Anything that jumps out that still has value for the listeners if they can get down Uh huh. I kind of like Delaware against Rutgers. As long as you're getting more than 21, so By price would be 21 a half or more so that Delaware against Rutgers. And just want to got to ask because I'm curious. What about my leathernecks of western Illinois at home against Eastern Washington, Plus 9.5? Uh, well that night and has thank one book. I had to soft number because it's and I can tell you if it's not soft somebody needs from Washington. That number is way off my opinion that the numbers should be well in the double digits. Sorry, K p. No, that's okay. That's alright. Just I just I look if I can make money I'll think of money. These are Washington Lane to it. You and all the right on a neutral world. I mean, would you be back here all the seventies Western all night? Yes, I would. So there you go. Alright. Good stuff. Brad Powers. Alright Saints at Panthers Panthers Right now, Plus 3.5. There are some threes minus juice but mostly 3.5, now on New Orleans, But I'll tell you what Jamie's Winston looked really solid. I know the game was in Jacksonville and Aaron Rodgers did not play a good game, but that's part of New Orleans. They came to play and I let Sean Payton Carmichael runs a pretty good offense, and I think Jamie's Winston's matured and not the same, You know, gun slinger that's going to be thrown a lot of interceptions like he did at Tampa Bay. I liked what I got from Carolina. They were one of my players last week. Jets came back had begotten a two point conversion. I would have pushed that game It would have been upset, but they end up covering the game your take on this one. McCaffrey and the guys at home does not rule get a win there. Does he get a cover or to the Saints Keep rolling. Yeah. I don't think you ever is good or bad. You're looking weak one from the NFL, So I'm going to play against how great New Orleans Look, they've had covid issues. They got injury issues. I like the home dog outright. Wow. There you go. All right, so you and I'll go a ham sandwich on that one. I'll take. I'll take the saints there. I'll give you 3.5. I respect that rule. I like him a lot. But I just think New Orleans is is pretty solid, and I think they're moving forward without Thomas, the receiver. They're going to play it like he's not going to be there. Texans and Browns Browns up to 13 and I agree with the move 48 the total. This is one of my players that I got on early Look, Cleveland gave the game away against Kansas City. I thought they really dominated the Boche point. I mean, it's absolutely unexcusable that you don't roll out to your right and then try to kick the ball. That's just, you know, brain malfunction there, but Cleveland to me, they'll be back. Unfortunately, we'll probably have to go through Kansas City again because of the tiebreaker scenario, although I still expect Cleveland To win that HFC north. I did make a bet with Mr Brad Powers. He's got the Baltimore Ravens. Good luck with that. Uh, Cleveland and Houston. David Cully Houston. Very impressive in that first game..

"In a bob sexpot. Nothing big, but, uh, ham sandwich on the bulldozers. Stanford at Vandy Vandy off the come from behind win over Colorado State and Stanford. The big time win over as seen now the cardinal going back on the road minus 12.5 in Nashville. Total 48 a half Tanner McKee has taken over for West Eric quarterback and they've got some playmakers, so we'll see how things all pan out there. Pete on the ground. Higgins Jones, Tremaine, pretty good receivers and good to see Stanford. Playing good box. I really thought this program was going the wrong way. They got going the right way against my SC Trojan seal seals. Therefore, Vandy the quarterback. Not bad. Raymond Davis, the workhorse. The problem for Vandy. They've got to get some pressure on the quarterback. They have yet to get a sack this year, and their mind is trying to turn over department you take on this one against Stanford minus 12.5 48 a half Thank Stanford. I think it started the wrong quarterback to start the season machine that from coaches in the past, and I think I was case with Stanford. They found their guy last week. I think I'll play with confidence. Vanderbilt Look, they beat Sarah. Think, Katie. But I wasn't impressed again. Our game by more than 100 yards. Continously messed up. Google get stopped on down inside the five yard line. So Stanford for me. Rice at Texas, and it's a rice team that looks very pedestrian against Houston. They couldn't even move the football at all. After they actually played much better game against Arkansas in the opener McCaffrey in green at both played quarterback. They both have one touchdown pass, both three interceptions. Griffin and Petri. The third actually could miss this game. He's banged up as well for the hours Texas to try and bounce back there, making the quarterback switch to Casey Thompson over Hudson Card. Your take on this one will probably work by John Robinson. Big time. And, uh, look for Whittington and the receiving corps to do something to Sark. Is he able to open it up? It's minus 26 52. I know it's still Rice will get up for the game. Texas got to be to where their heads are down, but starts got to get that program back. And with the quarterback change, maybe Texas roles in this one you take I had better, but I would if I had to play and I would lean that way. I think, Hobson but his legs gives that offensive boost. So I think they bounced back here and rice man look pathetic. That's where you against Houston, man. Yeah, I agree with you 100%, 2 Lane and old Miss Lane Kiffin's boys going to lay 14 76 the total look, Pratt Pretty good quarterback for two lane and I know they're getting a lot of attention because they nearly went into OU in the opener and beat the Sumer Sooners lost. Just 42 35. I don't know how good this two lane team is, but I know they're well coached. There's no question about that. Celestine pretty solid running back all missed, though, Matt Correll Uh, corral. He's been very solid. 6. 62 6 touchdowns, no picks. He's rushed for another touchdown. They've got parish and Ely. They've got players. Mingo. I like this on this team a lot. And I think all this could cover that number. I'll stay away because I respect to lane and I don't know it's the total hits. I would think all miss covers his game. I bet the over but that was you know, several points ago. Uh, I wouldn't. I wouldn't necessarily bet it now It's 76. You're right, Katie. I'm surprised this isn't how I was expecting that number to be 16. Many, if not 17. So if I had to play the side, it actually did pay them. Oklahoma State's at Boise State. You talked about some wind there, Hank back Meyer leading the way. Therefore Boise State they have a Lanie back Van Buren decent running backs on paper, but both those guys have struggled. Colony missed the game, but Van Buren 15 carries only 29 yards. He has hit Peter three times. They have one of the best receivers not only in the mountain West, but in the country and clear Shakir. High school already, 12 catches 2 57 and then wimpy. That guy still there that linebacker he and jail Skinner. Those guys doing a great job. 41 tackles between them for Boise straight trace forward out for the year defensive end there for Okie State. Spencer Sanders back Shane Ellingwood started The first game. I just don't know about this running game for ST Brown and Warren. They've struggled. They only have 44 carries for 102 yards. Brad, that is pathetic. For Big 12 team. Sanders may change things there, but I'm not going to touch this game. Initially, I looked at Oklahoma State. Then I looked at Boise State, so I'm just going to stay away. Where are you? Come on Oklahoma State, although it's more of a play against Boise State, and I think it's overrated from both of their performances. They shouldn't cover against Central Florida because they got massively on game 100 Yard, Pick six. Then you know that the wonders form in that game. Then last week. I mean, they had 31 points on the border. Three minutes of time of possession against you because there are plus five in turnovers, so I just I'm not buying Boise State. So that's why I played against him with the Cowboys and I do like the under 257 a half They ask you, Herm, Uh, Edwards going to go up there to Provo. And, of course, the boys in Provo stayed home after their win in the Holy War against Utah. Jaren Hall finding a way to get it done. He's strong five touchdowns, No interceptions. Algiers been solid. Powell. Pretty good receiver and P Leah tackling machine there for the Cougars. 24 tackles already. Meanwhile, they take on ASU and I like Ricky Pierce saw this guy is like a triple threat there for the Sun Devils were shot. Wait at the back field..

"Steph guard. That's what he did and let me be very very clear to speak to the greatness of steph curry he signed put two hundred and fifteen million dollars over four. Have fifty three point. Seventy five million dollars per year and no one on the planet blinked because we all know he deserved those damn dolls. He steph curry. He is the greatest shooter that god ever created. Is that simple and if anybody deserves this money it is him. He is pa. Sniper extraordinaire the most elite sniper. The game has ever see and he is absolute box office. Because unlike some people like kuwa- limited he actually markets and promotes the brand. He represents his well the league. And so when i look at it from that perspective and i think about what they had to go through the last two years without clay top been two years i know last season was truncated because covert nineteen and we get all of that but the last two seasons the golden state warriors have not had the services of klay thompson. And if i'm steph curry who went to five. Nba consecutive nba finals who won three championships and period of time. And i had to suffer. What i had to suffer through the last two years. The only person hall than me but just as hungry as me might be magri. That's bad it daycare. Wait for clay comeback. Klay can't wait to come back and klay one of the top five shooters in basketball is a hall of famer already. The opted the opportunity. That steph is looking at them to reunite with everybody. Talking about the lakers and the clippers and all and phoenix in all of this other stuff. Lord have mercy look out for the golden state warriors. They are coming steph curry. I'm going to need to lower third for him pretty soon. The way you have for lebron stephen. Because i'm accused of being a steph lower third. I'm gonna need one for steph. When i talk about him. Okay you need one for lebron great family. Men philanthropist cetera steph. Curry hater is one of my favorite players in any sport. Ever to watch a miraculous player to put your eyes on point out that something like in the in overtime in a winner. Go home game this season. it's not just that. They lost scored zero points. I just pointed that out doesn't mean he's a bad player. he's a great player. But i point that out. I just remind people at the time you have more here. No coup cut on the side. And you didn't have any facial here the last time. That's what that was going on with steph curry. Look no no this season this season when they made the play in game. The reason the reason it doesn't even occur to you because it wasn't reported no one noticed it but in overtime in a winner go home game. This season he scores points. No one bats an eye. Could you imagine if that was lebron. James scored zero points in overtime winner. Home game we would be killing him. And that's because lebron is compared to the michael jordan is playing against a ghost for the tidal greatest of all time. He's running out of time. He's getting age. He has a super team around him even imperfect parts but still super talented. You always bring up. When i say when if i say hey can step over be the greatest player ever you talk about his height and you'd be right. He's six foot three. He's the greatest six foot three or under player ever but because he's six foot three ain't never going to be the greatest player whoever live right. He's already reached the mountain top of what he's capable of doing in terms of his own legacy that way we thought that come into the last year and look at what he did last you. Because he's great. He was as good as he's ever been great but he is not challenging. Mj that's what lebron's up against he does not have six championships. He does have a super team around him. You know no excuses. He lebron james. He's facing the most pressure were just talking about. And he's got to be the most motivated. I'm gonna say something to you mexican. i think you need to buckle your seatbelts. What i'm about to say Because it is is really true. You're right steph. Doesn't compare to jay size and height has something to do with it. His lack of defensive prowess has a lot to do with it because he certainly was in ninety even closer to defend that michael jordan but offensively. I can make a compensation that steph curry is in the conversation of. Mj we have never seen a shooter. This phenomenon ever ever let. Let's say it's the you know. He didn't have the aerial assault. He didn't have the area loss. Michael jordan had couldn't finish at the basket. The way michael jordan could or whatever steph curry we. We usually see offensive players. Max and with the exception of kareem abdul-jabbar wilt chamberlain it's over seventy tall and dominant because of their height and size and the sky hook. Of course we look at guys. We usually look at god's and there's not a single player that we look at and we say michael jordan couldn't do that. We didn't see lebron. we don't see lebron we. did it. See koby. Vince carter or anybody else do anything that we felt. Michael jordan couldn't do offensively. Michael jordan couldn't shoot like that. Well if you want to sell body cashew like that if you no doubt if you wanna say foot for foot steph is the best offense flare ever find. But i'm not saying the best. I'm just saying that as an offensive talent because of steph curry's marksman ability because of his ability to just hit shoot his odds close. What might we made a big deal. About what michael jordan did at the free throw line closing his eyes and hitting the free throw double and the atlanta hawks. We are seeing steph. Curry shoot forty foot jump shot. Okay let me ask you a different way. Let me ask you the different way. We can't say anything. Is there any universe. Ever where michael jordan could play overtime of a winner go home game and scored zero points in the universe. It would never happen. It happened to steph. No one bats an eye. I'm not bringing it up to hate on steph. i'm bringing it up to say. The standards are different for steph. Shorter than a guy like braun. Let's not just point shorter. Let's point the fact that again because you're relatively small. Look his movement without the ball required to do all of that could be posted anybody up. You gotta run through picks squeeze gossip by constantly has their hand on you. You're not six six to twenty. You're not lebron sanders sixty. I'm just saying the point is the physicality could get to you. I understand that. So that's why. I'm saying i wouldn't say better but when you talk about pure skill as it pertains to whatever your skill set may be steph. Curry is in the conversation as one of the greatest offensive players to have ever played basketball simply because in no era have we ever seen somebody sees spot up shooters. We've seen jump shooters. We c catch and shooters those guys but in terms of dribbling the basketball and kill off the dribble. All of those things that i just met range has never ever ever been a shooter in and i'll go back. Today's max downtown freddie brown. Ellis you understand. Four ray allen alley. Houston reggie miller. Chris mullin and all of these ricky pierce and not me the list andrew toney member that i mean the list goes on and never ever ever see anyone in the history of basketball..

"And we're not really talking much football. We did a lot yesterday. We did a lot on Friday and then also the first hour. Of today's show, but I don't want to get some hockey mixed, especially Sal doing 10 to 12 little more football flair in that time slot than you normally would get. So we had Anthony Shandra from expected buffalo on at one o'clock, And now we bring in Joe Yard in the noted jerk AP died by the blade, Joe. Thanks for joining me here on the Western Hotline. How you doing today? Doing great job. It's good to be back on talking with you. You had a pretty good take the other day on the NBA Finals. I'm trying to make you want to make sure it was you. I'm looking through your Twitter throwback uniforms for the NBA Finals. 100% How good I need two bucks eighties jerseys, and then I need the sun, nineties jersey or even their eighties jurors and honestly, like, Yeah, just do it that way. I mean, I know some people love those bucks nineties jerseys from like the Ray Allen Todd Day. Days with like the giant deer on the front, But like I don't know, man. I'm old school. As I love those like Carrie Cummings, Ricky Pierce jerseys from the eighties and Yeah, just give me those all the time, man Like those are the best looks. Yeah, they are throwback uniforms for the sons. I love especially I don't think I've even seen The Bucks ones. I have to look them up. Um, but I have an idea of what they are in my head. So Yeah, I I like it for the NBA the NHL Finals. By the way, we were just kind of riffing about this in the last segment. Me and Corey. Like I don't know if we can figure out really like who were rooting for like of these markets, like much depends much like Montreal hasn't won in a while. But you've 24 Stanley Cups in Tampa just one last year. You have the Super Bowl. Whereas NBA finals right now like I could make the case that you should root for both markets, Phoenix says just the Diamondbacks Championship World Series from the early two thousands. That's pretty much it and then Milwaukee is one since the seventies. Mm. Yeah, I mean, Don't know, NBA one. I'm just kind of like I'm in that. I hope both teams have fun spot. You know, Like like, if either team wins. I think it's pretty awesome. I mean, obviously, you know, Phoenix hasn't won it before. And you know they're 93 team ran headlong into the bulls. So it's like, you know, Barclay had that unreal season that year, and you just say, Michael Jordan, and that's good luck. That's how you're not winning that. But like with Tampa, Montreal, I've been really surprised to hear a lot of people around Buffalo being okay with being okay with Montreal winning and I'm like they're way more history here with the haves like I'm surprised more Sabres fans are more like you know the hell with the house. Let's you know, Let's sample what it again. I don't care, but I don't know. A lot of lot of Sabres fans don't like the Southern teams winning For you know, for provincial reasons, which I mean, I guess I get that too, but but I don't know if he winning the Stanley Cup twice in 10 months. That's pretty special thing. If it happens, yeah, last year, too like they wanted in Edmonton, like their fans were. I'm sure enjoyed it. But not maybe the same extent as if you know if they win it tonight, especially on home ice. Um, Joe, we brought you on, of course, Talk a lot about the Sabres that you wrote about at the AP last week. I think it was about Michael surgery and the status of that What? We were just kind of wondering and speculating because you wouldn't really be able to know this without inside information. But doesn't it sound right that If the Sabres doctors are preaching rest and rehab that Over the course of enough time. I mean, if it's not working, wouldn't you think surgery has to come into play at some point? I mean, he might not be on the team. By the time that point happens, but it's just a thought that I've had. Yeah, To me. That seems like the eventuality Just because her knee I mean I said I'm not a doctor. I'm not even gonna pretend to be one on the radio here, but, uh, but I mean, a herniated disc in the neck just does not sound pleasant in any sort of way. I can't imagine trying to play hockey with that kind of with that kind of ailment. Because I imagine it's painful. I imagine it makes doing basic things very annoying at the very least, if not painful, um and you know, playing hockey. I mean, you're always at risk for having some kind of You know, some kind of injury at some point. I mean, we saw last season the last game that he played. It was against the Islanders and you've got shoved from behind by cases of Zika and then the last, you know, Last time we saw him on the bench was him like rubbing his neck just being, you know, and Pretty, You know, pretty considerable pain. So I mean, like those kinds of things can happen. You know if you're digging into the corner or some, you know, some guy comes truck it in from behind and plows you over. That could you know that could put you on put you on the injured list for a long time. So, uh, you know, I mean, as far as I'm concerned, but, you know, I get you know Well, all things considered. What Eichel seems to want to do is kind of experimental, but I know the view has been taken from from the Sabres and from other people saying that you know it is an experimental surgery that you know elite athletes haven't had it done on him. But I'm like, I don't know if an M A guys had that surgery and has been able to Continue his career. I would argue that Emma is a lot more physical and a lot more dangerous than the NHL is. Yeah. Where are you at in a trade right now. You would. Would you say you're closer to optimistic or closer closer to pessimistic on what the return will end up looking like if Michael is traded? I don't know. A lot of the experts seem to be kind of throwing up throwing a blanket on on things. And I should say the insiders and in saying that they, you know, the saber should basically take whatever you know Whatever good offer they get which I don't know. I don't know about that to me. Iculs, a top 10 player in the NHL. Yes, there's there's the worry about the next Um, but I mean, you're not completing a trade without you know, without him getting a physical without getting looked at in the first place. And you know to me like that's you know, I think that's the the thing that happens If he clears a team's physical, you're getting a top 10 player and that you should have to pay the price for for what a top 10 player. Get you, You know, I mean, that's at the first round pick. It's it's a top prospect. And it's probably somebody you know a younger, you know, top player on the roster like that's that to me. Seems like what the deal should at least be. So you know what? What? It seems like a lot of the, um Discussion about this trade is going on through reporters. Uh, um You know where, you know we're hearing. You know, we're hearing stuff where, you know, Um, you know, they're the Sabres asking prices, you know, super high and you know, than other teams. You know, other guys are saying, Well, these teams don't want to give up anything and I'm like, well Your your middle point in between seems to be where the Sabres are ultimately aiming because if you're if a team is willing to give you that super package that's the Sabres supposedly are asking for great. If you have to, like negotiated down to find that soft middle point That's probably where Kevin Adams is aiming anyways. Joe you're done is on the West. Her hotline AP Sports died by the blade at Joe you're.

I'm gonna i'm gonna say the audience will side with kevin durant. Yeah fifty five percent. Kevin durant closer than what i thought. I mean scott. He's a wonderful player. But if scotty doesn't play with. Michael jordan scottie is not one of the fifty greatest players of all time. I think he might be the best defender i ever saw now. Bill russell was spectacular with what he did. Scotty could guard everybody but bill. Russell was spectacular. But scotty would guard point guards. He could guard wings. he could guard big men. I mean he was. He was as versatile as anybody. He wasn't a shooter. He was his score. He did it. He allowed michael to freelance a little bit more. Because he was such a great defender. And i don't want to pile on scottie pippen. Just he's saying things first of all. If i if i read this quote about phil jackson. People are focusing on. Kevin durant and scotty talking about kevin durant kevin durant firing back. This is what. I don't understand and this to me is bigger story in this g. q. Interview scottie pippen was talking about when tony. Coup coach was told that he was going to get the shot. You know game on the line. Scotty then finds out he's not gonna take the last shot and he says the following. I don't think it's a mystery. You need to read between the fine lines. He didn't it re entered the game by the way went and sat down. It was my first year playing without michael jordan. Why wouldn't i be taking that last shot. I've been through all the ups and downs the battles with the pistons and now you insult me and tell me to take it out. Take it out of bounce. It was pretty low blow. I felt like it was an opportunity to give. Coup coach arise. It was a racial move to give a rise after all. I've been through with the organization. Now you're gonna tell me to take the ball out and throw it to toni kukoc. You're insulting me. That's how i felt. Okay there's one thing to say. That's how i felt. But you're calling phil jackson a racist. Where is the follow up. Question like i got to be credulous distinctly hold on you got other examples of phil jackson. Why racial did he just. Make a smart move to put in toni. Kukoc coach better outside shooter. I i would say. Let me give scotty the benefit of the doubt because the word racial just it's like out of nowhere but he starts out by saying you need to read between the fine lines. That's where i can't give him a hall pass here. And if i'm scotty i get my butt in front of somebody and say something like unless you mean it. Unless you're saying phil. Jackson is a racist here. I would i would say look i want to correct this or back it up but we called for scotty. If he came on i'd say all right. Are you calling phil jackson a racist. I don't care what his opinion is.
