"And and they cover their bases, they performed autopsies they did update me logical surveys lab studies, and what they found was concerning between eighteen, ninety, five and nineteen O two. There were eighty eight cases in the bitter Root Valley with sixty four deaths. Seventy two point seven mortality rate. And they concluded that it was not contagious from person to person and not a result of melted snow water, which was the leading hypothesis at the time. Okay. Good thing. Right, it'd be hard to avoid melting snow water. Yeah. Melted snow water, and so they suspected instead that it was caused by the. That they had found in some of the tick samples that they had dissect it and stuck under a microscope interesting and so by the end of this first season of their research, they had a nice little disease ecology cycle all laid out the would tech's transmitted the Protozoan to humans and ground. Squirrels. Aka gophers were the disease reservoirs. This was an untested hypothesis, but that didn't stop reports of it in the news because people were hungry for information about it. Like, we want to know how to protect ourselves. But just knowing or thinking that ticks responsible for the disease didn't really do that much because tics were absolutely everywhere in the spring in the bitter root and so the only way to avoid them would be to not live or work there, which is not the solution that the state was looking for. And the only practical step in their eyes, which wasn't really practical at all was to eliminate the ticks themselves or the gophers. Hosts. Gosh. So in the spring of Nineteen, hundred, four, the residents of the bitter it took this to heart they burned and they burned vegetation and they set out poison grain to kill the gophers actually killed a lot of game animal game birds and other animals. And they also got a bunch of sheep to eat the grass that the tall grass that they thought was the ticks habitat. Dear. But it's nearly impossible to get rid of ticks. You need possums. Aaron. We we need possums. Set loose the possums. I feel like maybe we shouldn't. Gamble, throw the ecological dying in that way. So the next best thing though is just to remove a tick as soon as you saw it attached, right. And people were encouraged to treat it like a snake bite like venomous snake bite, DAB, some carbolic acid on the side of the bite right away. So then people had a lot of acid burns, accidental spills. Infections CETERA. I mean basically the bottom line is that. Although these efforts had led to some fundamental knowledge being gained. The application to prevention simply wasn't there right and so more help was called in in the form of Charles Wardell stiles said name sound familiar. Yeah. It sounds very familiar. What else did he do? Hookworm. Oh, right. He. discovered. Or identified the second species of of Hookworm America's. Yeah and he I think he played a role in a go. I don't remember. But I think he played a role in determining that it was the cause of the widespread anemia in the south and he's Harry styles is great. GRANDPA exactly. Exactly. I'm so hip. Just dropping those names. My God. Okay. So anyway, so styles set out to basically test the ground squirrel tick Protozoan life cycle that Wilson and channing had laid out. He was enthusiastic about the hypothesis early on but he was a little bit closed minded when it came to any challenge to accepted Dogma of the time. which was this is news to me, but apparently for a while it was believed that. That arthropods transmit. Protozoa. But were not capable of committing bacteria other than accidentally like a fly could accidents. I don't know give you an infection rate. Stepped in poop or something exactly. But mosquitoes and ticks and whatever weren't capable of actually. Completing. The Life Cycle I y M. That's so interesting. Yeah. So when he searched for this, the supposed Protozoan in the ticks and the blood of the victims he came up empty-handed again and again. But instead of saying you know, well, the ticks may have something to do with it but the protozoan probably doesn't he openly refuted and dismissed to the existing hypothesis. Oh dear and he was started to say like, Oh, you know these people are these residents are overreacting ticks aren't involved. It's probably snow melt all along. So. And it's in a way. This contemptuous criticism actually was beneficial. The research of Rocky Mountain spotted fever because it drew such attention from other researchers including a pathologist from the University of Chicago named Howard. Taylor Ricketts. Rinkins Ricketts. Ricketts. Ricketts, set up a correspondence with challenging saying that he believed their hypothesis had gotten unfair treatment by styles. And I agree also, I've been doing some site experiments in my spare time including a little bit of medical is torture Oh. Great. So he had obtained quote consent from two people to attach ticks to them which had been feeding on a man who died rocky mountain spotted fever. Oh, they both got sick with the disease and recovered. And so xiaoning was like must be ticks. So, anyway rickets when he told Rick, it's about this ricketts just didn't acknowledge it apparently denounce him but he didn't acknowledge it and he was like I'm going to do my own research. and. So he went to Montana. Okay. But the state had no money to give him and so he and Wilson and channing had to find their own way to pay. So they like cobbled together a bunch of resources and in one thousand, nine, hundred, six, Ricketts set up a laboratory in a tent on the grounds of the northern Pacific Hospital in Missoula. Just like. In a tent and that Spring and summer proved very productive for rickets and another researcher named Walter King joined in on the research but it must be said that this wasn't a super collaborative. Project. Each one of these men for the most part. Maybe you know channing and Wilson Work Together. But like rickets and king were very much like this is my project I want to do it my way and I want and I want publication priority and I. Want Blah. Blah. Blah. So Anyway. And so I, they found Ricketson. King found that they could cause disease in a guinea pig by injecting serum into the animal and they could sustain the infection by alternating infecting a Guinea pig and then a monkey and then a Guinea pig and then a monkey which then. Enabled Year Round Research Okay. That makes sense Yup. Then at the very end of the spotted fever season both Ricketson king demonstrated that ticks can cause infection and they did this by attaching a tick to a Guinea pig and then. Disease resulted. And this was a super exciting finding, but it came at just the wrong time for them because it was the end of the season and soon, there would be no more ticks to be found. Back, in Chicago and Washington Ricketson King tried to keep these ticket experiments going by advertising in Montana papers for anyone who could find a tick alive tick to send it their way. At one point they offered a financial incentive of ten dollars in gold for anyone who could deliver fifty or more live ticks. Gosh. Citizen Science. But they never got any they had to wait until the spring. Okay and mid April nineteen seven saw the first victim a twenty six year old lumbermen whose family refused to allow tickets to draw any blood. Ricketts was peeved about this and so he asked the Secretary of the State Board of Health to do something about it, and so he drew up an official looking document.

Jj alathea banks folks at spring into the favorite part of the show with where we all take time and we you pitch ideas invention scheme streams APPs grist thrifts you name it and then we send it around the Horn for our colleagues to judge. I haven't been on recently positive. I don't think she's GONNA get INSA video from two thousand fifteen good. I'm always been sweet sweet and I have never said anything wrong. So let me pose a question. Please do one of the best parts about movies UH UH when they're over and you had a great time watching them you think looking at that hero and you WanNa be that guy or Carol. You know you WANNA or the villain I it's. It's aspirational very much of a member because I recall go the movies when we were younger seeing Spiderman maybe and then we joked to each other because we'd be happy on that pure move equality the feelings but we used to say we chartered moving. Oh down you think you're really deflating thing and I did really take you also did did it. It was a mutual thing so not so we ruined joy for each other. I guess to each other when one of them was excited nightside now since eighty four it is sad. It's so sad for him and so sad that the kid I should've spoiling come for Halloween might be a good luck. Yes Jeff please perfect obese. Oh perfect it will be so perfect running either running forrest gump whenever you're running down the street free for some shit through some Jamal cousy turnaround response for that just keep going fast harder man. That's why bullying is so so strong. E can't yeah or torture too hard especially when you're running yeah you could just flip the bird or something stop fired from one in the middle of a running start stopping in fighting breaking aired already know. It's just like going back at people. That's how you stop bullying become. I'm a bully yourself. Bullies feel empowered because everyone's just blowing the Bowie. Everyone's so scared pooling these days so bullies feel like they're so dangerous jurist food the first time you in the prison yard you gotta get down and Talk Shoe and the Dick and the stop batteries ask across the cafeteria floor in everyone's just like why that role and pick up a lot auditor across so anyway what's the worst movie watching probably probably yours you and you're fidgeting around so much the whole time fidget her long rickety cricket legs. It's just a snapping all very nice all right I mean I already said the wanting to be a hero and then having your brother deflate it for you both in some sort of wife wife the the best part of the movie is the climax and that's my brand new APP called climate so so you clips of your favorite movies so that you can enjoy those action packed climactic scenes without having go through the story building and character building. Thank you bill for sure everyone one has time to sit down and watch topgun for too much preface. Am I getting how am I gonNa care about the climax. Imagine you've already so so so it's movies that we've already seen essentially going to be a new climax. Porn kings tail pitches brand now six dollars ninety cents from month. David Cream Pie delivered. Here's morning Blue Apron so this is Jeff Flake. This is just at the climax of the movie like I got a doctor's appointment in an hour. I don't feel like watching our of a movie but I'd love to see economy for Swan doubled Chirag and the mortal combat I'd love to what one part of an old marine eight mile just hit him and so the climax of green mild climate during the water and the guy gets tried like a chicken right now of course a big thing at the same scene now when we get back to the mouth are two to three different themes in the joy of climaxes we actually will add it out. Little seen isn't the climax though that's I'd like to ensure a peak in the roller coaster but it's more the that muddled middle offering offering a family package called Pete. Give you the peak moments of your favorite movies and we different well because peaks and valleys happen in a lot of movies focuses on the main peak you know the Mount Everest are perk programs for of an Appalachian Rocky Mountain trail with hips hills and bump so it's peak is like a longer version of the more edited there's more time put into it from our sack team out and sack labs CBS in Sacramento well. We don't like to discuss a lot of our competitor China by the area okay and the Climax Jeff I notice you're on your phone. I'm not mad about you are just Si- you your name your glasses by the way cricket Ricketts Ricketts. I love it. My phone's not working. Can you right then in so I gotta get a new phone which has been a huge bummer a new phone the first APP download is climax. Oh come on the rights to these clips by the way seem stuff ownership twenty min- in minutes and so we have them for nine minutes fifty nine seconds and we can get out of the ten minute minimum rule of law that acetates the you know the partial film development that you're able to use your making this up that not Oughta lock music from the Mash people with the mashups are covered under some sort of parody one might react adding are to flip all the movies so they don't get screened by the fencers. That's actually really smart. Thanks music backwards great sip. Please actually who were trying to That's all right in this is really devolve into climax is the theory APP and we're living esters. Okay a lot of business. People don't have time to go see the top flicks in their area and I know I'm talking about people that have seen moves in the past but there is the busy business man or woman okay that just doesn't have time to seal the Oscar nominated film for the scourge. You want to brush up on these things. Why can't it just be like a shortened version of the entire movie that gives him a full idea of the movie wise it just the Climax O? P. Subscription WanNa make sense. If you didn't see the movie before us that's true draft but we're trying to develop new markets out there and trailblazer pass pad the ZIP right. They definitely get hit with some branches from just is going on youtube and searching like best Zeppelin inspiration for this idea that for sure and no one saying youtube is an inspiration for this. I'm glad you asked we make money by taking down on these people's phone numbers. There's an email addresses when they sign onto the APP and then we use those who sell their information. We're using it to develop more appropriate appropriate bits. Two people love that will they. Would you know people never talk about not getting served poor anymore. "And he's infographics will take you step by step through the process. And we really appreciate you leaving us. Some kind words and now back to our chat with Dr McCullough. So let's breakdown vitamin d supplementation. And compare and contrast that a little bit to what you get from the sun sea mentioned us being an Ontario and for people like us up in Canada is the vitamin d supplementation. Giving us a false sense of security or is there a lot of benefit. We're getting from supplementing. I believe there's benefit is the lesser of two evils. A does provide relative false sense of security because it's trying to give you sunshine in pill. And it's just not possible. You gives you one of the most important nutrients, you'd get from vitamin DS, but doesn't give you any they might contract benefits. So you can actually overdose. It's like impossible to overdose with vitamin d from the sun you can do with orally. Although it's really really uncommon almost has to be an industrial accident. But still it doesn't allow your body to self regulate it as easily, you know, I think ideally, you get it from the sun. Most people can't I don't think there's a danger of concern. I mean, if I lived in Ontario. I'd probably be taking it in trouble. Seek to get the heck out of there during. The winter, which I did my live in Chicago. I go to Hawaii spend their winters there for like ten years. I did then I said this is ridiculous too far from the mainland. You know, it into something comes up you got fly back. So I just moved to Florida. It was a lot easier. But you know, if he can vacation at least get a little vacation there for two three weeks and get out and get your skin exposed to sunshine. They'll help because fight him indeed is fat soluble vitamin and starting your fat tissues for a while. So if you have a high level, it'll stay there for a few weeks, maybe even a month or six weeks or so before starts dropping down. And how often do you recommend getting vitamin d levels tested. And what numbers so we looking for. Let's look good question. It's a little bit different in Canada in the US, we use a different system, so as sixty to eighty nanograms per milliliter, I think he used nanna moles per liter. So at sixty to eighty to multiply times two point five to get the optimal level. But at least sixty the old levels were below twenty nanograms, you were considered efficient. That was just horribly. Inaccurate was. The level where you would get Ricketts Ricketts is like an extreme disaster from vitamin d deficiency. I mean, do you have lots of other complications well above that twenty nanograms especially in pregnancy, which is massively important. I mean, vitamin d may be the single most important variable in heaven, healthy pregnancy. So I mean, I would encourage any woman who is pregnant or thinking about getting pregnant to optimize vitamin d level before they can see. And if you have breast cancer is absolutely parrot. We funded some research with grassroots health, and you know, they compiled data from tens of thousands of patients. Now, I believe in doing the testing in correlated to increase in breast cancer, relapse just drops down dramatically. Once your vitamin d levels are optimized, so it's really really important and in the book, you breakdown active versus passive, sweating, passive. Sweating would be what we'd get from being in near infrared sauna act of sweating would be would we give from exercise if you could just break down. Why imagine and is one better than? The other. I think the past sweating is better. If it's primarily has to do with your nervous system, you have two branches when his sympathetic and the other para sympathetic the flight and fight would be sympathetic or this to activate when your exercise in. So that will not release as much toxic will release some, but quite a significant decrease from passive sweating where especially something like the sauna space were you don't have any meth exposure CMF will also costs sympathetic activation. So if you're in EMS feel or space where there's no EMS active in your system integrated near for red light. You'll get a maximum pair sympathetic activation, which will allow the excretion of these toxins more easily. I sweat a lot. When I was doing my running over for decades. And I thought that was sufficient,.

"Give you pause about your own company's relationship? It's not my company. I am an advisor. You take a fee from them every year. And I if it gives you pause. Yeah. I take a fee to help them with their relations with the British government in an arrangement, which is completely open and above board. And so what goes on in Saudi Arabia is not something I'm involved at all either with Lockheed Martin or in any other. Did you have a view on it? View that Saudi Arabia has more to do to account for the murder of Junko Chaudhry governments and corporations therefore exercise their ability to put influence and leverage on this out is by either imposing sanctions or indeed withdrawing cash contract governments have been doing that and the British government and Jeremy hunt, and I give him credit for this has been active on that. I make no comment on Lockheed. Martin's policies not my position to do. So and the final area that I would like go view on that is the vexed issue of what to do about British citizens who went off to Syria, sometimes Iraq as well to fight for jihadists of so-called Islam, the Jemaine issue right now is the young woman. She the Begum who has been found a camp in Syria. She's a British citizen. I should say she was a British citizen, but the home secretary's declared he's gonna strip her of that citizenship because she went off to Syria to support and do what she. Could for the jihadists, do you think as a former national security advisor, David Cameron? That was the right thing to do what I have questions about it. Because I think for all these people this young lady, but others as well. We'll born here brought up here educated here radicalized here. And therefore, it's we have some moral responsibility. And some practical responsibility to to bring them home to have them face Justice here if they're not in a country where they can face Justice in inacceptable conditions, and I think to strip people like that of the British nationality when they don't have another nationality. I think she's entitled to Bangladeshi nationality. The no contract with bender that it all seems to me that our obligation is to have these people back to the UK to try them. If there's evidence that they've committed crimes, and then to work, and we integrate them, and it may be that among these people will be some who will be sufficiently horrified. What they've seen that they can then help in the campaign to prevent other teenagers being seduced by Islamist propaganda and going abroad that I wasn't opportunism on the part of the UK home secretary to declare that she was no longer British. But I personally think it was the wrong decision that we ought to accept. She's a British citizen and have her back to this country. Peter Ricketts Ricketts. Thank you very much. Thank you..

And then you see the murder of an independent journalist in Jamaica, Sean, Jagan the consulate in Bill does it give you pause about your own company's relationship. It's not my company. I am an advisor. You take a fee from them every year. It gives you pause. I take a fee to help them with their relations with the British government in an arrangement, which is completely open and above board. And so what goes on in Saudi Arabia is not something I'm involved at all either with Lockheed Martin or in any other capacity. Do you have a view on it? View that Saudi Arabia has more to do to account for the murder of Junko shows, you should governments and corporations therefore exercise their ability to put influence in leverage on this out is by either imposing sanctions or indeed withdrawing commercial contract governments have been doing that. And the British government and Jeremy Honda, and I give him credit for this has been active on that make no comment on Lockheed. Martin's policies not my position to do. So and the final area that I would like go view on that is the vexed issue of what to do about British citizens who went off to Syria sometimes Iraq as well to fight for jihadists of so-called state. The issue right now is the young woman. She might Begum who has been found a camp in Syria. She's a British it as I should say, she was a British citizen, but the home secretary's declared he's gonna strip her of that citizenship because she went off to Syria to support and do what she could for the jihadists, do you think as a former national security advisor, David Cameron? That was the right thing to do. I have questions about it. Because I think for all these people this young lady, but others as well. We'll born here brought up here educated here radicalized here. And therefore, it's that we have some moral responsibility and some practical. Responsability to to bring them home to have them face Justice here if they're not in a country where they can face Justice in acceptable conditions, and I think to strip people like that of the British nationality when they don't have another nationality automated issues entitled to Bangladeshi nationality. They should no contact with bender that it all seems to me that our obligation is to have these people back to the UK to try them. If there's evidence that they've committed crimes, and then to work, and we integrate them, and it may be that among these people will be some who will be sufficiently horrified with what they've seen that they can then help in the campaign to prevent other teenagers being seduced by Islamist propaganda and going abroad that opportunism on the part of the UK home secretary to declare that she was no longer British. Well, I personally think it was the wrong decision that we ought to accept you as a British citizen and have her back to this country. Peter Ricketts Ricketts. Thank you very much for being hard to. "Thirty four. Morton grove and thirty five lakefront, I'm Steve Bertrand in the WGN radio newsroom, and these are the stories that matter on seven twenty WGN. It's been a very strange week for people who have said or done things that could be perceived as racist. Only for them to either apologize or deny that they're racist or something like that. AM nason. Of course, the reason we talked about yesterday. You had the picture the clansman picture, Joe Ricketts Ricketts comes to mind immediately. Now, that's the story that broke yesterday morning. We didn't really talk about it much yesterday. I wanted to digest it myself just a little bit to figure out what exactly was going on. And I thought the most interesting thing of the whole thing was the statement from Tom Ricketts from the cubs. Who said these words he said we aware of racially insensitive. Emails and my father's account that were published by online media outlet. Let me be clear the language and views expressed in those emails have no place in our society. Which is exactly what needed to be said. I give him high marks for that. He then goes on to say by father is not involved with the operation of the Chicago Cubs in any way. I am trusted with respect with representing this organization in our fans with a respect for people from all backgrounds. These emails do not reflect the culture we've worked so hard to build a Cup since two thousand nine again that needed to be said, it was very well said, but I'm trying to think about the internal struggle of him where he goes I have to say that even though he's my dad he is not involved with this business at all. True that seems to be the case. So his money. His Ameritrade money is what made the family very very wealthy and then ended up purchasing the cubs, but on a daily basis his dad is not in the office saying sign this guy get this guy move that wall over there paint that this he's not doing that. But think about what would have to happen in almost anybody's family for you to write a letter saying my dad from sorry about my daddy's. We've got a family business, and we want you to keep coming to the games. And watching the games he's not involved in this that had to be more than you think. Where somebody's parents do something stupid. Oh, I'm positive that happens all the time or a family monotonous. Parents put a family member says or does something and then you have to make the decision do. I do I make it publicly known that. There's there's a disconnect that even though he's my dad and I love him. What he just said is horrible. And please don't let it affect the family business, please, please, please, please. Because that's kind of what that letter is. And with good reason. Right. So now the question is what what needs to be done? People people are still wondering about cubs involvement. People are still saying what if a Muslim player wanted to come and play for the cubs and then heard about this. Well, what were they don't know the exact extent of the emails and Email chain with some racist things that were said that he indoors and start. No, not about just about in general. Okay. Yeah. So I wonder what the lasting effect is. And if the cubs I wonder if the cubs need to do anything beyond this. If what he says is true. And there's no reason to believe, otherwise, he he really isn't involved. He's he's the father of the Ricketts family. But. Do you hold them or the team responsible? I don't know. I wouldn't. That's why I always tell my kids, you know, do the right thing. But most importantly, don't do the wrong thing that will embarrass me. Solid advice. That's very solid advice. Well, I mean, we all try, you know, I I never wanted my mom to look bad. So I would try and do things right. Right. Right. Yeah. Because you do for most of us. We we kind of do our best to envision that larger picture. Yeah. I'm positive if this guy was getting E mail that were upsetting. He had a couple of options. You know, he could have said, oh, please. Don't don't don't send me this sort of thing. I don't wanna know about this just leave or he could do what he did. Which is say, oh, that's great. Keep it up. Love this sort of thing. Well, young people are too inexperienced to think about the big picture and older. People don't care there's. Yeah. There's a lot to that. Although to be fair to him for a second to Joe Ricketts. The the father says he he quickly apologized. I think late seventies seventy seven at that old seventy seven. Why were you thinking he'd be even older than that and had lost a marble or two and just didn't care anymore because it's like, yeah. He's only that's young. Yeah. Dan wants to jump into the conversation. Hey, dan. How's it going? Morning. How're you doing? I'm hopeful that were you we? So the America wasn't tribal all the time. Do remember this that wasn't what all the time? Tribal tribal exponentially every single day. Every single day. And I wanted to remind people that I saw I saw. Was on TV. And I'm not saying I saw everything was in those emails. Yeah. The Ricketts father. But I want to remind people that if he was talking about Islam Houston specifically. Yeah. That's not a race. That's not racial. That's a religion every single almost every race. In this world has people that are involved in Islam. Now, we generalize because we we ultimately default because we're human and we're fallible. Not a race. If you are. Saying bad things about Titians right for Muslims or Hindus. That's not right. That's a religious biased. Right. So it's not racist. I want to make sure we hear that. All right. That's fair game on. But that said what needs to happen now? And does this affect anybody going to cubs games? That's what I want to know. This is going to change anybody's mind. In the short term. Yes. But I think I'm gonna learn because we're so desensitized to everybody tribal now everybody's fighting. Only people, racists, bigots and biased. It's boring. It's gone. You know what I mean? It doesn't have any married anymore. It's the it's the wolf being tried about. Anymore? I don't understand that. Doesn't make it right. What does not what does not make it? Right. We are with other things, right? We are. Other things that I don't wanna mention because you know, that are bad going against the bible and go against things that we would never thought of sixty seventy years ago, but in all year allowed to do this, and I'm bored because you say you're going to do it. I don't care. I'm going to move on with my day. Yeah. But if you don't care that's one thing, and you just take it off to you know, oh that guy's just having his own issues. But I don't think we should continue accepting it shouldn't. But we're going to because there's too much of it every day. You're right. We should not. But it's worth humans were fallible. And this is part of the negative aspect of human nature. But didn't it seem to get better for a while done? And now it's getting worse again. I think it got worse. You know, I think. I think it's been. Got worse sometime between I don't know. Two in six years ago. On the west this administration in the last administration and the hyper. Avenue of twenty four hour, news media and the internet in Twitter. It's just bad. It's just bad. It's not gonna get any better either. I don't have any hope for my society anymore. I don't it has to get better. The generation of kids growing up. I think are more accepting than even our generation, and hopefully, they hold the keys to the future. And hopefully, it gets better. I also will we have to America's now completely different places. It has to be broken in order to get fixed, though, doesn't it down? China. I'm glad you're optimistic. The only thing we can be right now. Otherwise, it's like why continue you just gotta have that hope that someday this will get better again because history repeats itself there are crappy times in history, and it gets better, Dan, please be with me. Decide you're optimistic. Hope. It's contagious. And I hold more people speak out about the optimism of the feature. All right. Thanks, don. Wendy, I had a standing ovation leftover from last night that I didn't use. I just gave you thank you. You got a standing ovation from me if we give up then why every day question about it. And to your point. I think you're right. I think for the most part kids are far more colorblind than ever before that colorblind religious blind culture blind, more accepting more. So why does it seem like every day? It doesn't seem like every day every day. There's another story about somebody who has either done or said or made some sort of racist remark or gesture or something. I don't know what how how did that what floodgate opened were. That's the thing. Now. I don't know it has to get better. Because I don't know if it can get any worse almost a second standing ovation. Are you starting to stay? I started to stand in the navy. All right. Somebody said all right. We'll take a break. And then more of your thoughts on this were three one thousand nine hundred seventy two hundred it's Bill and Wendy on WGN..

"It's number. That's out there. Have to realize that that is you know, they didn't spend money in anybody. But they did have to spend fifteen million to keep their own guys. You're exactly right. It's totally factual. But let's remember the first jenner's guy six years years four five six you can they can go to arbitration eligible unless you're a super two, and you can do it your three yada, yada point. Is they got a whiteboard somewhere and write down they knew three years ago with Bryant would probably get in years. One two three four five six. Right. You might have fooled them a little bit. Yeah. But they might ahead Schwab, we're making more. But they know you're exactly right said Patrick for four million to seven point four because you know, what is the top is is the top pitcher on the agree pitcher and the cubs as we know we went through the Bill James are sliding of all on starting pitchers last week. The cabs have the fourteenth best pitcher in baseball. Kyle Hendricks eighteenth best pitcher in baseball and Cole hamels is according to Bill James, I twenty four John Lester at twenty-fifth. Jose Kyle Hendricks number fourteenth. Overall, the best cubs pitcher currently bilge. Yeah. So yeah, you're going to get the dough. No surprise. No surprise. But you're right. You're exactly right. Thank you. This money that they did spend. So I mean, people say they did have to spend fifteen million than they did last year to keep it keeping their own guys. When you sign a player to six year contract, or or, you know, signed free agent to a seven or eight year contract. I mean, you you budget in that you're gonna lose that incremental flexibility in the future years. So the mean you make those decisions, and you know, and honestly like you look back last season me ninety five win it ended in horribly disappointing way, and everyone feels town, but. But you know, the three big offseason moves all had issues. I mean, whether it was whether it was. You know, injuries or otherwise I mean had any of those guys have been able to hang in for a season would have been a different story coming back average feels great. Then you throw in Hamilton for a whole year. We got a good team. We got a good lineup. And we got we got the right people. But when you you can't spend the same dollar twice. So you have to make resource allocation decisions and no team has infinite resources Ricketson San with cap. Great job. Here's the bottom line swore excuse to set the bottom line, maybe chocolates. Hey, chuck. Here's the here's what's happening. Ricketts has cut off feel. But here's why I got mad this week. Fred listening to these guys, and they are smooth talker. I thought what he said there was exactly correct. Yes. If any of the pitchers would work, everything was correct. Games. Right. But here's the thing. Here's the thing. The gut wrenching laws as a cubs fan. Here's here's why I met. As a cub fan. Because THEO has because Ricketts has lost confidence in peel. That's my opinion. Okay. And slammed shut the checkbook for whatever reason. Here's why I'm mad because of the ineptitude of of THEO and Jason McLeod. In seven years develop a pitcher. And everything domino affected backwards because of that you had to pay hamels. He didn't expect trade. Everything went backwards because of that because because Ricketts has slammed shut the checkbook, you know, what he's doing. He's punishing me his punishing offense. Here's the fans they've been gone out there. Spending money and all of a sudden now he pulls a Arago. He's the owner. He can do whatever he wants, Murph. I understand it. Fred. Check this out either research because I'd forget right now Ricketts Ricketts bought the cubs October thirty first of two thousand nine that means his own the team for ten years. All right. The first one the first five years that brick its own the team, right? This is why I met. Now. The sudden is pulling the checkbook out the first five years starting in two thousand ten they finished fifth place last sixteen back next year fifth place last twenty-five back the next year under records fifth-place last thirty six back the next to last place. Thirty one games back the fifth year twenty four fifth place last seventeen back of I five years records last his last plays last plays last place. Last plays sixteen back twenty five thirty six thirty one back seventeen back that was the rebuilding order to get the players. They got fine in order to get Kris Bryant and in order to get cows. Number in, and, you know, Albert, Al more and all these guys planned tanking. I understand that. But now all of a sudden. Now, the sudden Arnaud, no, no, no, we're gonna pull back. Here's a here's an excerpt of Davison, what does a little bit later from Forbes. Tom Ricketts sad to season ticket holders in an Email in October this year last last October right following the cubs. Wildcard lost Iraqis. Tom Ricketts sent an Email to season ticket holders. Quote, unfortunately, a thrilling summer Wrigley field gave way to a disappointing October. I wonder who wrote this farm Peter maybe chase whoever unfortunately, a thrilling summer Wrigley field gave way too disappointing October. Very true falling one game short in the National League central and making an early postseason exit while both unfamiliar and uncomfortable will motivate us right now. Here's the here's the wind up. Here's the next sentence. We will Ricketts in October. We will spend the winter working hard. He did say spend the money the Windsor. Oh, good one. I'm sorry. We will spend the winter working hard to give Joe Madden. And our team the support they need to. Reclaim our division. Never say about money. But how do you how do you read that though between let's read between the lines. Eleven jump in with Frank your season ticket holder. You're thinking that support means money. What does this mean time record says season ticket holders in an Email enact Tober? We will spend the winter working hard. I'm sure they are to give Joe Madden and our team. Perk. They need to reclaim my vision. They got him David desk Kelso, that's the support. And isn't okay. Bob, blair. He's a step up from what's his name the pitcher Jessie. Thomas forgot his name already step up. So as an improvement, right? Yeah. I just I find that. As a very general statement that you probably hear from an owner and GM every year. We'll do what we can will work as an organization to get better. I just find that as a vanilla milk toast. Kind of message to your season ticket holders. Epstein arrived as president of operations is is Forbes in two thousand twelve since then the cubs payroll has averaged number eleven among all teams in baseball. This includes the twenty fourteen season where they paid eighty nine million and ranked twenty second behind the Oakland A's. So it's not like they've been spending drunken sailor style. No, they didn't. Now, they got all of these reasons why there's no money. Okay. They're valid. I understand that. But the records finished fifth place last place five years in a row now. Okay. The strangest thing and he was I thought he was great outing air yesterday. Theo Epstein, and with Waddle and Silvy you can hear the whole view on the Waddle and Silvy podcast. But there's two things he said, I think he said it with Waddle and Silvy. But I know he said it last night too. He said they have not been spending the money, but they've been working harder than ever this off season. And I'm saying to myself. You haven't done anything. How you been working harder than ever they're slick politicians harder than ever getting Dale the scouts glib. A couple of a couple of pitchers. He picked up that it won't kill it off. Tommy, John surgery. They've got the golden tongue. What have you? I I would love to have known what he is done. He's we've worked so hard in the off season. They've doing what they've talked cut fans after five years of finishing last. We're not there anymore. Now. There's no money again. But their third place in payroll, Murph. They also no one ever mentioned this the highest average ticket price in baseball. Just for the record. I tell you talk and guys that can tell me. You know, what you're listening to him? Haley. He's something. Talk about the twenty nine th member the windows and waves the waves. I expected a more legitimate chance for a second trip to the World Series. Here's Forbes Forbes says why haven't the cubs been spending on power with the financial status compared to their contemporaries where they forcing her front office this year to sit out after promising otherwise a season ticket holders just months ago. It's a true mystery. If you aren't willing to jump to the simple conclusion that billionaires. Just like keeping their money. All right. Never considered. They didn't become billionaires because they like to spend money. Now, I'll tell you that guys planning to sell the team no one ever mentions that we'll talk about that between now and known the team just throwing it out back in a flash just he's gonna call in Fergus gonna call in for is going to call in phone lines are jumping to three seven seven six wait till Jesse joins us. "Bivolje thing about takes is they exist whether or not you believe in them. So. The symptoms. Should you ever be unlucky enough to get? This are fever. That's that's in there. Dead giveaway. Some nausea and vomiting. You can get aches and pains all over and your muscles and your joints and upset stomach. And then you also get the rash. That's where the spotted part comes from. And it's it's an interesting rash. If you think rashes are interesting, and that it it starts half the people in the states certainly do. It starts on your hands and feet and moves in word, and it can it can occur on your palms and soles on. There aren't a lot of rashes. They can do that. Fascinating. The big deal with rocky mountains about a fever is that it can lead to very serious complications and even death in some cases, not so often these days, but back on the American frontier, it it very often did. And so that's what we're going to focus because it was first documented all the way back in the eighteen hundreds back, then a lot of different names for similar diseases. Probably overlap. So they called it. A lot of the time black measles because the rash can get the rashes Petillo, which is like broken little blood vessels under your skin, and they can like get darker. So it looked like measles. But really dark Tiki a- is on your nose is Jim blossoms the same thing. Starting on your face when throw up if up to heart. Yes. You're learning things. This also could have been called just mountain fever. There are a lot of different tick more illnesses as well. As just other random things settlers got. And they kind of call them all the same thing. So when you hear old descriptions of black measles or mountain, fever or typhoid typhoid malaria. All these different names. They could. I mean who knows what they really were. They were one of these this variety of diseases. This was one of the most feared among settlers. Because if we went back and did statistics at the time it had up to thirty percent mortality rate. So this was a really scary disease to get on the frontier it doesn't now. Don't worry. The nobody knew why people got it. They knew they went into the mountains. And then they got sick. And so they came up with a lot of odd theories as to why that might happen. One of the most popular was that. If you drink melted snow. You'll you'll get this. Also, I saw one one doctor comment that they thought it was that all of these lungs that weren't used to breathing. Pure mountain air. Did for the first time. And then got sick is too. Good. The air is too good for us. Have you felt that since we've been here? I can't handle this air. Where's the coal? This obviously since ODI understood why people are getting sick at led the way for a lot of quacks to come and pitch, whatever their wares were for you to buy or one of the most popular things. Doctors would do doctors. People who call themselves. Doctors would do is offer to test your water your snow runoff water to see if it had the Rocky Mountain fever in it. And then they would give it the clear they had no way of doing this completely made up, but they would take a lot of money from you to do that. And then just say don't drink that. Or not seems fine. There there were they would test your snow. Well like melted. Snow water runoff. Yeah. Specifically that water. Okay. I mean, they were wrong. It wasn't this matter. Right. Like, I'm challenging them. Now, they're long, Dan. At this point in history homeopathy was alive, and well, where's the of huge room applause? Our great friend told me out. On the American frontier. And so there were a lot of like kind of poisonous. But then you take the poison in. You dilute it and deluded into lewd it until it's really just water that you could prescribe for any of these fevers that people got and one in particular that was very popular was the venom from a dagger headed. Viper. That is only found in Brazil. So you can't find this and then diluted deluded deluded deluded until water, and that was a very popular cure, which you had to wonder like the guy who is selling this like how do you get all these snakes here? He was lying. No. I know that. Quinine we'd knew quinine work for other things that caused fevers by now so like malaria, so why not for any kind of fever? So that was very popular whiskey. Always sure times treatment. Why not? Strychnine was very popular. There was something called Dovers powders that a lot of people use and Dovers powders was a specific patent medicine. So just a medicine that a guy made and sold to a lot of people and most patent medicines contain something that was either narcotic or just made you drunk like alcohol. This contained EPA CAC opium and morphine. So that's legit. Throwing up, but I feel great about it. And also who could use a nap because? Now, a lot of a lot of people just had no idea they didn't have access to these medicines. And said they were just like, I don't know drink a lot of water take a sponge bath people, really desperate. And so the the state of Montana was suffering the most from rock bottom fever. And so when it will when it became a state in eighteen eighty nine I know that fact now and by nineteen to one like soon after they became a state they had set up a board of health specifically to address this problem. They wanted to try to get Dr Sukom, they're like, well, we got a lot of sick people. Here. You got another to do they'll buy your medicines. Whether they were not please come we need your help. So they started attracting doctors and among them was Howard Taylor. Ricketts Ricketts here. And he became involved in the search for what was this? And they already had this idea that maybe takes responsible because there was this one documented case or doctor was unfortunately, doing an autopsy on a patient who had come to rocky mountains about a fever, and he found a tic in his pubic hair. And like and this poor guy. This is what we remember about him. Is that he had taken his pubic hair forever. This is what I know. All right, but quick note. You can give me a pass for not realize that was taking my hair.

They will get free throws in the ball is that correct? Flagrant to get. You picked out of the game. I think so. Yeah. Flagrant too is the excessive blow to the head or very dangerous play. This be more. Like what you call an intentional foul where Justice Smith holding. When he didn't calcium Blevins is at the free throw line. He's got seven point three from the scribe now tool fours, he hit that one for eight point? And that is the first points scored in the second half by this Montana state team. Finally, get twenty points on the scoreboard. Second one is also good nine points. Dow for Kelsen Blevins who is the easily the leading store on their ball club. And they'll get the ball to bounce fray, we'll trigger it up. He gets it. In the Blevins Blevins gives back the fray who drives against Tennessee down. Low lost the handle got it back. Throws it outside the Blevins. Leverage. Dow tries to turn around. He can't dribble it anymore gives it up. Throws it outside. Kirby Kirby goes to Ricketts Ricketts on the right wing back outside the fray between the circles pray whole of Kennedy shot clock right now and traits down inside kicks in the corner of the records for another three try again. It's best. It's kept up and July mortgage got another rebound mortgage already. Got a double double in this game. The ball in the hands of John. Now left side pastor, devante green. Now the ball and take it away inside. I didn't see what happened there. The ball was stolen right back by the Anna's. Devante green knee was fouled by Harold Bray. Great picks up his first personal. Indiana. Get the ball out of bounds. Good heads up. Play from devante jumping that passing lane there after a bad turnover. Indiana trying to pick and roll rather than the actual picture on Morgan slip to the basket. Devante tried hitting them. The pass was just too fast went right through John's hands Indiana's fortunate to get the ball back a heads up play defensively from devante green to get the steel it somebody a vascular are given more gonna basket that he should have had. We'll figure that out later. Here is the Monte green with it lobster Allio. Doc is born. Langford is uncorked six points here. The first four minutes of the second half fifty three twenty one. Now, the past comes right side of the hands. Tyler hall, all with it. Gives it outside the Blevins. He goes left side Kirby Kirby on the wing holds onto it gives it off the hall, and almost the way it goes into Kurdish hands impervious call for traveling violation. That's the ball DOI back, Indiana and the sixteenth turnover by Montana state time out of the floor. Indiana, fifty Ray Montana states twenty one of the several in the air. You know, the guy from Jack in the box with the round head office. I know that one guy. A picture and a marshmallow on top. Yeah. It's obviously a dead marshmallow because it has access for is. Right. And it does have a smile on his face was happy to be great. Well, don't the Xs on the is also couldn't you couldn't. He be drunk. Oh, sure. Right. Like that's rave music for. Sure. Right. I mean, that's the music you put on right after you, whatever the kids do at those dropping some right wing pops. His eyes are oh oh kiss kiss on the ice. The Treasure Island music festival. Yes is. Yeah. Right. Speech therapy suites therapy, playing playing they're not thank you for asking. I would have been there all day. I wasn't anywhere near speech. Yeah. Let's can into Ricketts Ricketts. Have to be my next band name. Together. I always have a band going know band together in the new year. Oh, do you want Ricketts? No, no, no. Trust me. I got all kinds of great name. Okay. I weaned brand names. You can say on the air. You've heard many. His name's fabulous. Anyway, Treasure Island music festival is happening October thirteenth and fourteenth in a new location, and it's home for the future middle harbor shoreline park. Does this mean it is Audrey island or not because there are actually a bunch of events up about the Treasure Island music festival that are happening. Off-island? Oh, so what is the name of the park. Again. It's called the middle harbor shoreline park. Are you gonna look for me? Thank you. So today, they are revealing the daily set times the full performance schedule the lineup of the night shows that are in addition it's out on the island middle harbour. And why would they call? It treasure. Why would they call? It Treasure Island music festival. They're saying let's see the description says Oakland at areas thirty eight acres. It's got a is located on San Francisco Bay in the port of Oakland. So it's not sane on Treasure Island. It's gotta be it's not sane Treasure Island. Maybe song Texas will they so they took a year off from doing this because it's been it's had problems. But they're coming back. And they say this is the new location and home for the future middle harbor shoreline park. Someone is going to know this. They actually say it's minutes west of downtown, Oakland and Treasure Island is west. I just don't know if it's minutes west, and they're also saying there is zero parking. There is no cars. It's shuttle in only it's gotta be. That's right. So there's clues that say it is. But then there's say it isn't. So we're going to try and figure the sense in Oakland, right Treasure Island. Not on Treasure Island off the bridge is after you get off the bridge and. Yeah. I can show you the map right here. All right. So. Rename wouldn't you say I would say Oakland shores of oh confusion. Right on air is every person trying to come to your event. Right. Can you see where this is there? Look, I can't. Shirt. All right. You've got a view of Treasure Island. You certainly do you can see it from there. So they're sticking with the name because they did ten years. I guess they want to keep it. But the deal is now it's in Oakland. You can't drive there, though, they're saying you go to the to the Bart station. It'd be exact name of it. Let's see it's Bard -able go to the west Oakland Bart.
