An explosion at an Oak Park residential building yesterday injured one person and left all 12 of its residents displaced. Police and firefighters responded to the 200 block of South Street for reports of a fire with collapsed sections of a wall. But, man, you're like, What is going on with all these injuries? Yes. First of all, Stop hitting Jose Abreu. You one stop hitting him. He's not Don Baylor, for God's sake, stop eating my guy. That's one thing. Second thing is that it's just been a litany of injuries. It's been a mash unit. I don't know if the thoughts have to be at the top or one of the top three teams in baseball does have used the I L I mean, it's just ridiculous, right? But again, the thing that really resonates with me cap is the resolve of the team. Just out of all the injuries. You expect this ball club to be middle of the pack or this team is in contention here with a record of 80 and 58. After all the entrance that they suffered again? No Tim Anderson. I mean, there have been a couple of setbacks with Adam angle, I think during the rehab the first time There is initial set back then, when he came and he played a little bit, he and another step back, and now he's coming back. So you'll get angle back. And like I just tweeted again. You you've lost yours. Left fielder, your center fielder. Both right Fielders, your second basement and now your catcher. This is a This is a nightmare Fuel. If I would be sitting here in March, telling Sox fans you're going to lose your left fielder, center fielder both right fielders, your second baseman. And your catcher. You would say this is the most hellacious season we've ever had. But then I would tell you your six games up in the division with all that happening to me. And I think a lot of people was that way. It's a testament to tell Tony LaRussa. This is a testament to what Rick Hahn has put together. The White Sox really want Trevor story and do they want him to move to second? We have heard for a while that they that it was quote close on the Escobar deal with the Diamondbacks. He was just named to his first All Star team. He's not a high end base guy, but it can. He could homer and he can drive in a lot of he's dealing with a bit of an injury as well, though, isn't he right now we I thought he had like a leg injury that has been hampering him. Some and my thought was The White Sox wanted out there to expedite another move and just throw out that. Hey. Oh, you're going to play hardball with us? Well, we're interested in Trevor story. Do you know what I'm saying? And a team that maybe is holding firm that look, we need this. Prospect Rick and doesn't want to give up this prospect. And I think he's exactly right. That's how we opened the show. Freaking life is back, man. This is not just a baseball thing. You can go to a bar, a restaurant. We're back. It's just really, really cool. What I'm planning. I'm planning on leaving in like a half an hour because it's going to be insane over there. And I would say this, and I'm not sort of Like the company guy here. Just be patient like this the first time Wrigley Field's been packed in two years. They just had to hire a whole bunch of people to go from 60% to 100%. It's not going to be smooth at the concession stands. I'm just guessing here. I don't know I'm up in the press box, but just be patient and Wrigleyville inside like you said. Enjoy it. Hopefully they get the kinks out. If there are kings, I don't know for sure. Exactly That move is what is the only move left handers can do now. So base runners can move can steal on first move, meaning as soon as that left leg comes up in the past, you'd have to wait. Is he going home? Is he going to first base runners can steal. The idea was to increase stolen base attempts and stolen bases for right the same thing you have to step back and then turn and throw. You can't jump in. You know, you know how you guys turn and throw quickly. You have to step back and then turn and throw, so it really takes more time. And it's the lefties that that it really changes and I have to tell you, this is one that is not going to make it to the major leagues. There were six stolen base attempts in the first inning alone. Everybody is running. There's a guy on South Bend. That is 21 for 21. Here's the other thing. I obviously that does create more action, but I didn't see one catcher. Throw the ball down. That's how how big of advantage it is for base runners. So nobody throws down. Nobody got caught stealing for the game. There were five for five. You know, several of the attempts batter swung and followed off the pitch, so they had to go back to first. So it was not like every attempt. I'm we resulted in a stolen base. But there's a guy in the seventh inning. I mean, the South Bend team got no hit the one run. They scored, got on on an error, stole second, stole third and scored on a wild pitch. Yeah, That's not the kind of action you want. You want throw downs you want You want double plays. I talked to two pictures on South Bend, a lefty and a righty. There's no chance of the double play anymore. Anybody gets on first is almost on second within a picture, too. So that's the baseball as the baseball we grew up on someone trying to get to second base. But Carlos Carrasco, whose older he's 32 versus 24 25, he tore it at the end of spring training. They don't expect him back until the end of July. If there even remotely close. So that's what a four month injury at least and he didn't have surgery. Carrasco We're talking about. End of July, August, September October, he's done He's done for the year, at least from my standpoint, because when I saw the report was thinking, Okay, maybe 10, maybe a little 60 like, Oh, jeez. And when you see him, go down the first baseline and look that serious at first, right and just So I'm going to miss the little flea. I'm gonna get I'm going to miss him. I don't want miss his glove. But I will miss how opportunistic he is. Offensively the way he's able to hidden angles for a little guy like that. We're able to spray the ball and can't come up with a comp to him like Brett Butler. Maybe. Little guys that could be able to spray the ball right. But he has a little pop in his bat. Yeah, he does not saying he's a home run guy, But there's a little pop in his bat here is Rick Hahn. How long can your team survive all of these massive injuries? What we're dealing with here is the first place team. That has overcome numerous challenges already this season. We've seen various guys step up with the opportunities they've been provided over the four first 10 weeks or so of this season. And over the next several weeks, we're going to have more opportunities for other players internally to be given the opportunity to step up and help us stay afloat, if not ideally expand our our lead in the division. You know, with regards to some of the other things that we've had to endure. There remains optimism that some of these players will return at some point over the course of the season, so we're going to potentially have some help from our own guys internally who are going to get additional opportunity. I'm going to potentially have help from some injured players returning and obviously, we could well have an interesting next few months later up to the trade deadline based on where our needs said at that time, So, uh, it's hard for me to be anything but extremely pleased with how the team has responded thus far, too challenges like this one. Obviously, you don't want to keeping these on top of each other and creating additional challenges. But there's one thing this team has shown over the last several months as its resiliency a lot of resolve from the White Sox. I like Recon recon. You don't want to play cards with Rickon. You don't want to play cards with him because he's always gonna have the same face, he says stuff and then he didn't say anything at the same time, but there's always meet there on the bone. Where'd that come from? Growing up? It was just that fan base and not the basketball side. No, it's just that football team man. I like Coach Macleod. He had a big throw. I couldn't stand it and that made me happy right? And that's what I want today. Go out and beat their ass. You certainly have momentum coming from the San Diego series that surprised me the Cubs the way they played against San Diego now against the ST Louis Cardinals team again, the plan is to just wreck Jed Hoyer's plan. If you're the Cubs wreck his plan, keep winning. Continue to have momentum despite whatever's happened with the ball club keep winning because it makes it hard for Jed to unplug this team. Correct. You keep winning, they'll add on and then you have some. Hopefully, you'll have that momentum going into September. "The city will sponsor a new program called Lunch on Lasell to promote restaurants by closing LaSalle right in front of the Chicago Board of Trade Building on Select summer. Tuesday's that structured LaSalle will be converted into an outdoor dining boulevard North Michigan Avenue, had similar treatment. For the Meet Me on the mile program, which is going to shut down. Motor vehicle traffic and last from the summer through the fall more about LaSalle in Michigan Avenue coming up when they have a meeting on this next week. Well, it's gonna be fun. "To beat out an infield hit, or you're trying to save a home run, you know just these weird movements. It's stuff you can't practice and I think at times, uh, guys just do things they've never done before trying to help their team win and all of a sudden you're out for six weeks or 12 weeks or an entire season because something snapped The outstanding voice of the White Sox joining us right now and cast birds Waddle and Sylvie on ESPN 1000. So what you said about Hey, they could get them back as and it's almost like bonuses. So how does Rick Hahn handle that balancing act of the trade deadline happening on July 31st and hoping they come back, but not counting on it and going after someone of substance position player wise? Well, I'm not going to speak for him, but I would say that he probably has had a bunch of sleepless nights. Contemplating that very question. How much do you give up to get a player back in return? Who could be an everyday player? And then all of a sudden if the other guy comes back, you don't mind having depths, right? And too many good players. But then all of a sudden you maybe have mortgage Bit too much of your future, if not even your present to maybe have to get the guy you want And then the balance doesn't quite work When everybody's healthy. I don't know. The the ultimate answer to that question. I would like to think that by maybe mid July, uh, Kenny and Rick and Jeremy Haber will have a better idea. Of How realistic it is that any if or all of the three will be back, So I do think there's still time and I appreciate that They have let this play out with internal solutions. So far, they haven't needed to go out and make a trade. And the main reason is they're starting pitching has been so good that they're in every single ball game. And then I think, secondarily the guys who have filled in have also been excellent for the most part, but I think the best answer to give guys is you wait as long as you can towards that trade deadline. And then make those big decisions when you're forced to, all right, So let's just play a hypothetical. We had a lot of calls on this, and I promised that I would ask you if they would go out and get someone of note to play an infield position, whether it's like a Trevor story type player. Are you open minded to moving players? Whether it's alloy. I mean Moncada back to second base or moving Tim Anderson, the second base or you not screwing around with them. It's funny. I was talking with two people here separately about the very question of Moncada moving Back to second base. Uh, I I even thought about it in terms of Jake Lamb, who is a third baseman by trade. And if you want to have him in the lineup a little more often, and you've got enough outfielders that day that she could put lamb there and and ultimately Sylvie, where I go, Yuan's having an MVP type season? Yeah. I'm not messing with him. The only way I would do it as if he literally walked into Tony's office and said, I want to play second base. I don't think that's a question. I would feel comfortable asking him. I would leave that one up to the player. And for now, I would leave him right where he is on land. I know he can't take the ball every night. But I'd like to watch Lance Lynn pitch every night that dude and he deals and he's fun to watch. Do what he does. He is He really is. He's a very interesting guy. Off the field as well. I've gotten to know him a little bit. He's exactly what I think this team and this pitching staff needed. He's been through a lot of those wars he's pitched in the postseason. He pitched for Tony when he was a rookie. Way back when The stuff is really good. And the bar has been set so high that I don't think I've been effusive enough in my prays When all of a sudden you look down and you go Wait a minute. He just went seven innings, no walks and nine strikeouts. But we've come to expect it now. It feels like every fifth day from Lance Lynn and this has been one of the best stretches I've seen in a long time, probably going back to when I watched Jake area to dominate. The stuff is not the same as Jakes. It's more fastball heavy, but right now you're almost shocked when he gives up a run. We were debating earlier in the show Lenn whether or not the record against really good teams is important for the white sacks if they keep winning in general Well, they're dominating the teams they should beat and they're right around 500 against the really good teams. That's that's usually how it plays out right. There aren't too many teams in the history of the game. Who dominate everybody. Those are the teams that win 115 games a year. So with the unbalanced schedule that we have now the idea is against the 4th and 5th place clubs. If you can win 14 15 out of 19 against each You really don't have to dominate the rest of the league and the White Sox are on. What about a 98 99 win Pace right now. That'll that'll work. Yeah, that will play right it finally Len, are you as frustrated as everyone is with replay, not necessarily the outcome, but the process and the lack of transparency. Yes And no. I think it has come a long way. I think they've done a much better job with it. I feel like we've had more moments in games where the proceedings tend to be halted because of the 22nd limit. There have been a few calls that feel like they should have been overturned and have not. I think ultimately It will keep getting better. And I think the best thing is the communication aspect. There's an opponent and how dope it was going. United Center Then I got other side. I was like, What? What energy it, you know, I mean, why don't want us to think what to say what I experienced, you know, I mean, and so, But like this isn't the way too sweet. I didn't get that and they didn't get it. And I guess they were looking for something else for me. But at that time I was 18 Point game school like, you know, I mean, but for me, it was just I was just glad I got to live that like childhood like moment. Need any Tommy John surgery he'll just have to deal with this and should be back for next year because the philosophy is if he has, to have Tommy John surgery he's out, for a whole 'nother year then you lose him for two years essentially of his contract and then.
