A lot of them do the things that curb smarts doing that that make people think this. This will really be different. It is he is going to be able to do Mark richt. Couldn't quite get. It'd be before we get you deep. Can we clear something up because Bianchi Fain shock when talking about Mark Ricks dismissal and Georgia. But it wasn't surprising. He he had run run. His course, and it was a tough decision. I don't think it was easy. Having won nine games. People always talk about ten win season. But he was fired. I believe after the ninth win, right? And what went into that decision? I mean, it wasn't a close. Call. I don't think it was if you go back to that two thousand fifteen season the decision was made for sure after they lost a Florida. If you remember they won their last four games to go to nine and three and people were wondering after they beat Georgia Tech to finish nine and three one four in a row as Margaret saved his job. He would quickly let go the next morning. So it was obvious that the power brokers kinda made the decision after the Florida game. And then in the lead up to that they that terrible month of Cobra in two thousand fifteen started with that loss to Alabama where both teams were unbeaten or album, actually. They had one loss that point. I'm not sure. But there was this sense that Georgia had Alabama at home, Georgia. This was year, and then Alabama came in here and waxed them and that started at the Florida game kind of finished it. Yeah there. There was a sense that things had just run course that I think the other thing was curvy smart was very much in the mix for the South Carolina job after Steve Spurrier step down and a lot of people around here did not want to let their guy Kirby. Smart George born and bred get away. And that if he got the South Carolina job, you'd never be able to get to leave there. And I think that was a driving force to I believe you are correct. I think I'll Abacha had lost ole miss at home before that game. And and that was the famous game that for the first time, I think since two thousand and nine Alabama was a one or two point underdog. And we it was just a disaster for more. Correct. And even though you're. You said would you did about the Florida game? It was sloppy rainy messy day in Athens. That may have finished Mark richt off. Yeah. It you know, he could've come back from that. You could have if you come back Tennessee the next week, which they were winning twenty one three. Then couldn't hold on. If you come back and have a good season. Maybe ten and to even eleven in one you can come back to that and say that was just a bad day, but the whole month of October did it there was a sense that I mean, man, I'm not sure how much we want to go down this radical books could be written about that two thousand fifteen season. Somebody may be writing it. Let me go. Well, yeah. But yeah, there was stuff going on with Jeremy Pruitt straight. There was just a sense that Brian Schottenheimer was the complete wrong higher for Georgia on offense. I I'll I'll say this somebody who doesn't get enough attention. I think nationally, and maybe even locally for how important it was to that Georgia program under Mark Rick was Mike Bobo, Mike Bobo, and we'll friends now with Jeremy Pruitt, Tennessee were left after the two thousand fourteen season and Mike Bobo who helped bring in Jeremy Pruitt to Georgia in the first place did so much for that program in terms of. Not just being the offensive coordinator..

"The morning after we parted ways was Mark. Richt retiring at Miami. Manny Diaz coming back and taking over. Why didn't Mark Rick communicates many or the Miami athletic department that he was considering stepping down? They're lucky the DS comeback after taking the temple job kind of handled. Poorly thoughts, it is kind of crazy that cost them four million dollars to buy out a coach who had been working for them like three days before that of the ball game. Yeah. Even one of the details. I'd heard is one of the assistant coach on the offensive side of the ball had been pursued by another power five program within their own conference. And from my understanding, Rick, Ted communicated. Hey, we want you here. Everything's gonna be fine. And then there was a one eighty and obviously everything wasn't fine. Mark richt was was was stepping down from my understanding. Thing. A lot of the pressure on this came from richt being pushed to part ways with his quarterback coach and it's quarterback. Coach's son John and that wasn't something. He was going to do. And this is the upshot. I think they were fortunate that many D as did want to come back for this job. And it'll be interesting to see how he does there. I mean, he what he did with the defense was by far the best thing about the Mark richt era at UM my point for Margaret in big picture wise is even if he didn't. And I, you know, it's funny you, and I had this conversation probably a month ago where we talked about was this is good as UM was going to get under Mark richt. And that was my feeling it wasn't going to get any better than it was last year. When at one point they were in their number two in the country, and they for in the top ten for awhile, but they had a really down year this year. The one thing you cannot take away from them, which I think only maybe Miami fans. Or Miami people have real appreciation for is. Mark Rick brought in a ton of money financially to that program in that department, which was really needed and required. And so whether he got them back in the top ten consistently or not he had really profound impact on UM. And I think it was important what he did. And he set the stage. I think Manny Diaz has a chance we'll see what he can do. But Mark Rick brought them into the twenty first century, facilities wise, and resource wise, and that is no small feed. Well, I think we should wrap up for today. I know you've got a lot of sites to see here in downtown, San Jose. It is a pretty setting. "Well, I you can believe in richt and want Rick out as offense coordinator. Oh, I'm not in love with his play calling. You know? And I don't know if Thomas Browne would do better, but to me, and I feel the same way about Adam gates with the dolphins. I like it when an offense coordinator a specialist in offense does the play calling and the head coach does the head coach thing, which is you know, communicating with Reshad Jones that his time is going to be diminished. So it doesn't blow up in your face. But this planning for head coach to do beyond calling plays. That's for sure I actually disagree about the calling with Adam gates. I think that when you look at Mark richt. It's totally fair that he's just like the most boring offense. It's just runs to the right runs to the left same passing routes. But a few times a game. You see plays that you're like that's a good offense in my when he had Albert Wilson. You saw big plays. Yeah. Like his offensive scheme. I at least watch and I'm like, he's at least trying to do different things. Whereas ROY Rick is just like oh my God. If we one more tackle run. And if something works he'll run it thirty times, which I'm not totally against the problem is again, something that works. And as bad as the offense offensive line has been in the quarterback situations been the defense has been elite. They absolutely deserve better. They've been even better than last year's team that swept the nation with a turnover chain. This team absolutely deserves better. It shouldn't have taken such a step back at the very least. It should have been the exact same thing understanding that you were limited at the quarterback position. But it's both not only does he have a zero quarterback said he trusts. He's also completely mismanages situation because both quarterbacks look completely shot in terms of confidence absolutely worse than when the season started..

But at the same point, you know, if you got if you told me they were going to be foreign foreign aid this year. I'd be like all right. That's real progress there. Oh, they're definitely better than they have been now, they're still bad. So I think he he came in. He's a high profile AD who came in with a mandate to make that program competitive again, they're they're trying to raise money for a very expensive new facility. And so maybe that's part of it. Right. Get a big name like less miles and everybody will throw money down. Whereas if you get a less, let's say Willie Fritz who's a fantastic coach, but not a big name. Then then that might not work as well. I'm just saying don't make long-term decision for your program based on early signing day coming up, you know, it's not the end of the world if you have to wait until February to get a lot of your guys. In fact, is that a is that a commentary is that a pleated Jeff long? I am pleading to Jeff make this mistake. You'll be well, here's here's actually a similar example that might I'm not ready to say for sure yet, but might be playing out right now at your own modder, you know, Miami very excited to get. Segue stew. They lawless say Miami was very excited to get a guy as high profile inexperienced and distinguishes Mark richt and in year two last season Shirley to be paying off, but they are in rough shape in year three. And it's and it's raising the question of well, maybe there's a reason things trailed off at Georgia at the end. And maybe Mark richt is not necessarily the definitive answer for Miami. Well, I'll say on the positive side because they did have a very good season last year, the heat Mark richt has been very good at raising money for them. And doing a lot of things off the field that Blake James AD. I think has to be commended for that higher for what he's done. I think win or lose at this point. Mark richt has succeeded. A lot of ways that Miami needed. Now, as you the long-term guy to lead, I feel like I've. Said this before I don't think Mark wrecked was ever gonna get Miami national title, again, I don't think you know, offense. Really they are really lacking. You know? That's that was the side of the ball. I think was a big concern. And quite honestly, it still is here. Here's how many points. They've scored in the last three weeks stir teen at Virginia fourteen at BC and twelve against Duke. I mean, that's not Alabama. Those are not great teams that that they're they're really struggling with. Right. So that is a big big concern. And they've had issues a quarterback. They have some skill guys. Now they've had some injuries, but they've really struggled on the old line. I don't think Mark richt isn't any jeopardy there? And I don't think it'll be an under jeopardy for a while there. But I think the honeymoon is over there with a fan base because I think they're looking going we need to get a lot better. He's going to need to make some hard decisions on offense. And those kinds of decisions are as I recall Mark really didn't make the decisions. No, you're not trying. Please the fans, but there was a lot of frustration. When Georgia fans with Mark richt on that. Right. And they had better quarterbacks for much of his time. So more talented than what what he's got night right now Miami. I mean, Georgia fans big complaint was that he just wasn't winning the games at the end things have gone stale. And so when they beat Notre Dame in that big primetime game last year when they think the Virginia Tech game was considered to be a pretty big deal. But now not only has he not one the begins. He's well that frankly is not so much the issue right now as it is losing at home to do, you know, losing to Virginia. These this is not what Miami fans expect. Yeah..

"Mark richt was was was a ten win a year guy was a was a a bowl winning coach. Georgia wanted more. And now they've got Kirby smart, and they're in a national championship. Also, Georgia finds himself in a recruiting rich area in which they can get the number one recruiting class in the country, or at least top five are you ever going to get that out of Iowa hail? No. -lutely? Not right. So that's the point where okay, then what's going on in Nebraska with Scott frost is Scott frost doomed to obscurity because the back when Scott frostless plan for Tom Osborne. Nebraska was was arguably one of the best programs in the absolute country national championship winning Nebraska, Tennessee, Tennessee football was the same way. I think that's a great bait that can can those midwestern schools those non talent rich schools. How do you recruit? You know, Adrian Martinez is the the quarterback for Nebraska is a California kid, but can you go into Los Angeles as Frank eras as Scott frost and pull a five star away from USC to come to Nebraska. That's tough. Right. And you listen, you might be able to get one. You're not going to be able to get six. You're not going to be able to get seven, right? Think of NFL teams, by the way. This is best week ever. I'm Peter burns. He has been hard sock. Look at NFL teams if you mean to tell me in the NFL. Where a team could go in and say, hey every year when it's free agency, you can grab seven players, but certain teams can only grab one or two we have that a little bit based on your salary cap requirements or restrictions or how much free money available cap space. You have however if money was no object, and you're able to grab eight of the best players versus two of the best players. Guess what? The team that's grabbing eight of the best players year in year out is going to be better. And I don't see where in Iowa where Nebraska Ken, David gave his Tennessee at this point. Look at look at Clemson, Clemson isn't South Carolina isn't a hotbed of college athletes or of high school athletics. Sure, they're they're near the south there in the south. But Daboh Sweeney was the change the Clemson hadn't been relevant until Daboh Sweeney took the helm. So the right guy can change that and the right guy in the right part of the country with a fan base. And in a university that's willing to buy. You've condemned basically everybody, but about ten schools in the country has that changed in college football. It really has. Ebbs. There are ebbs and flows though, there are ebbs and flows because you every year you have teams that we get excited about we get excited about West Virginia. I stretch until they blow it down down down the end Baylor comes into discussion every once in a while look at UCF look at Houston. There's there are teams that are not there but have brought themselves up. And that's always the fun of college football is can year after year can Houston consistently keep themselves in the national discussion to where they are taken legitimately as a national contender. They haven't yet. But that's part of the discussion of college sports app state as well. And I had an opportunity and the in in they choked away that opportunity earlier this week believed to Georgia state. All right..

And I know people may not understand what I'm what I'm mean. When I say this, but any anyone who's a fan of sports in Georgia understands what I'm saying. Because a lot of people defend Matt Ryan, even though they shouldn't. Just as a lot of people defended Mark, Rick, even though they shouldn't and it, and I get it in this. Because you know, they're honorable man, they're classy, they carry themselves except exceptionally. Well, but they couldn't do their job. And that's really what it comes down to and within two years of Margaret being gone. You know, they weren't Kirby smart went to a national championship didn't win it. But now number one recruiting. So it was the best thing for Georgia. But fans didn't want to let them go in the fans. Don't wanna let Matt Ryan go and Matt Ryan fan. But you can't let them go. He's now making thirty million dollars a year. There's no letting him go. No, no, no. I understand that. Yeah. He's not going anywhere. But I mean, nor should replace him with that's part of the issue. It's y team really. Hold on Kyle. It's why team to replace their franchise quarterback or repay their franchise quarterbacks. Because the problem is I you have to then find someone else and the falcons are where are they going to find someone else? I mean, go ahead giving telling you you're replace them with Kirk cousins. He went he went to Minnesota. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm saying what they should have done before they before they resigned them. So a lot of teams wanted Kirk cousins. What happens if Kirk cousins still takes the guaranteed money in Minnesota? Then what do you do? Oh, no. It's too late now. No, we're stuck with him. Now. I'm just saying maybe we could've traded him. I don't know. But there's no future in Atlanta with Matt Ryan. And I'm a Matt Ryan fan, and I don't hate them, and you know, like them, and you know, I was at the last two games in the dome. Jared them on NBP and all that I like him, but there's no future. If if we were gonna win the Super Bowl, we would have wanted that year twenty five point lead with the number one offense, and you know. That's Matt Ryan's fault. That was Matt Ryan. No, no. No. No. No. But. You know? I mean, he has to take some responsibility tonight. He did he didn't play. Well, he said after the game the game tonight where you know, where we have a first and goal. It's it's so. At the end of the game. We're making the drive. Okay. We'll get down there. Matt Ryan keeps throwing it out. No one can catch it. I've seen that game. One hundred times people may not talk about it. But throughout Matt Ryan's career. I've seen them throw the ball out of bounds. Four times in a row. I've seen this one hundred times. So I mean, you know, and. I just don't know. There's there's no future in Atlanta with Matt Ryan, I'm sorry. I I like them and everything, but you don't sound like it. But either way he's being on. No, I got it. I just don't think the thing is is you need to keep saying it. The the problem is whatever Kyle you think about their future with Matt Ryan he's there. And so I mean, you're beating a dead horse because he's the quarterback and they're not trading him. And they just resigned him for thirty million dollars a year. He's the franchise QB. And while I would agree that he did not play. Well, he also took a couple of sacks that he didn't need to take away you've seen that before too. I don't believe it's all on him. Matt Ryan doesn't protect Matt Ryan. And he was getting hounded especially late in the game. There was so much penetration. By the eagles in the backfield that he was having very little time to do anything. And that's not on Matt. I agree. I agree. It's it. None of it's completely on him. I agree with that. Well, I'm sure it's frustrating. Like, yeah. I mean, I I don't mean to keep saying that over and over, but I do like him. I'm just I'm Atlanta fan. I'm gonna Atlanta fan. I've been watching them this entire career every game. I think most Atlanta fans have yes. They defend him. Now is my analogy they defend him. When he when he when he also about Mark, Mark richt one a lot of all games at Georgia. And while I would agree with you that he couldn't win the big one. And that's why they kept running in that same brick wall. It was a great upgrade to get Kirby. Smart where he came from out of Nick savings program, yada, yada, yada. But you know, they win the big game either with Kirby smart. And so, you know, you can't look at these things in a vacuum a team sport. So it's never one guy. It's never one coach very often one guy the quarterback or one coach the head coach becomes a scapegoat. And it's easy to do that. It's easy. The quarterback always gets way more the credit and always absorbs far more of the blame. Then he should. And it's the same thing with the head coach coach can only coach can actually get on the field and execute and so I understand the frustration. But there's also a lot of positive that. You're throwing out when you say these two guys two guys couldn't get a dinner use that analogy. Thank. Kyle. I appreciate it. We're always here. Offer therapy. When fans are frustrated eight five five two one two four two two seven. Well, you can buy via Twitter Ayla radio. Lots of you weighing in with the games that you're most looking forward to this weekend. I know we could only put four in our poll, but you're responding with a lot of different games because let's face it. We're all psyched to see our teams on the field and all really excited about some other story lines that will finally get to play out at least in one week encourage you, of course to tap your brakes because one week does not a season. Make Michael says thanks again for taking me down a five from Philly to DC tonight after a Nick foles victory. Just like back in January. I mean, there was a little bit of deja vu going on. That's for sure it's after hours with Amy Lawrence. Here's our latest sports update. And here's.

"No i loved allowed to laugh well i mean it doesn't matter it doesn't matter i've been saying it from the very beginning if we win we'll move up if we lose we'll moved out i mean it's it's not the end of the road there's what one two three four for us we got at least four games if you count of bowl and maybe a fifth game uh if you get into the acc championship you know so there's a lot of games between now whenever all that stuff gets decided so you know there's no reason to i mean you get bad if you want you know but i mean what goods are going to do is semi let's let's focus on trying to do the one thing we can control and that's try to win cox i think one of the great match ups this week is the way your defense has been playing and that notredame offense of line josh adams gets a lot of the recognition book when you turn on the film men that notre dame offense of line has been outstanding maybe the best working unit in the entire country has one what are you see when you have i wait those guys up front well you got two starters that are probably there left guard left tackle probably be the first pick in the draft of their position then he got a right guard that are seniors and then you have a sophomore at right tackle but you know these guys are mahler's you know you you don't when you get over 300 george rushing the game normally who you're talking about air force saudi georgia armenia yet teams that you know that team air either team to do that that triple option football and if they have eighty plays they're gonna run at seventy two times you know what i mean notre dame's doing it with the balanced passing attack along with it and they're doing it and more traditional running style that's that's what's most impressive to me about it now when bush is a runner that guy is his.

"Well when i played it wasn't quite that by the time i left there was some cames after i left that were you know with the two marquee two of the greatest programmes of the day are going headtohead one more of an upstart with with their style be in miami in one would notre dame with the tradition and having their style and ended the styles contrasted so much that it just was an easy thing to create drama andrew you know using all they have to say a that to create a little drama but you know a couple of tshirts getting made and a couple of feels get hurt and you know before you know it it's it's a battle on the field off the field it it just uh it gets crazier them profits should add but it's it's the way it was how much has as the old catholics versus convicts ole conversation from eighty eight eighty nine uh how much of that has been talked about in the locker room and i don't bring it up i really don't bring it up i i don't know it doesn't it doesn't make me mad you know should make me mad but say i'm more focused on trying to get a first down the charter school in the red zone you know what i mean i don't have the time about that but uh you know the bottom line is we've got goals and we've got dreams about where we want to be and uh certainly are conference goals are taken you know a pause here because this is not a conference game but um you know it is a game that we have you know we've literally put ourselves in position to possibly get into a playoff spot is not a pipe dream this very minute uh you know some people modest it as a pipedream when the season started and quite frankly we never talked about a we talked about went in the coastal mom never won the coastal mine never played in acc championship game mommy's never won the acc okay so that's plenty to dream about and plenty to work hard towards in quite frankly it's the only thing we control we can't control whether or not we get into the top four not but uh we can control the the conference championship.

"Things be be true to yourself is that something that you instill now in your players and you're coaching staff yeah well that's part of it the biggest thing i try to help with the players with his you know they can't become who they are you know i am a football player if your identity is only in what you do whether it's being a coach or whether it's you know being a banker a doctor a football player whatever it is you know when that sooner or later that's gonna give way puts your faith in something that you cannot lose which you know in my in my opinion is his salvation through jesus christ but you know you can lose your job you you could lose your ability to play football you could lose you know god forbid you lose your wife or a family member i mean but so if you put all your faith in those things and then it's a dangerous place to be you know make sure that your identity is not just in what you do make sure you're a wellrounded person and uh you know we do things that the community we work hard on school we work on the things that when football's over these guys got a chance and in the end we gotta you network that we have put together what we're getting guys jobs and we're up to five or six former players kitten jobs around here it's really been great that's awesome margaret head coach the team's he's got number three notre dame he is number seven miami uh and is on abc herpes on the call coach as being a child of the 80s love this seeing and you're up brawl with this i love the seeing miami and no redeeming in the top ten and is ready to go at it what is a disgrace you played in this robbery you've lived it it's back what is it about notre dame in miami for people who didn't grow up in the 80s and 90s that makes this saying there's just so special.
