"I'm joined by jay gordon. We're talking about the falcons. Defense our grades for them going into the twenty twenty one season. Obviously take all of this with grain of salt folks. We're talking about you know guys before. The games are even played But these are sort of initial impressions of the players the quality of the players. What we've seen from them. We've talked about the defensive line that linebackers. Let's talk about the back end of this defense. Because in the past especially in recent years this has been a unit that has been at times problematic. A lot of that has been due to injuries. We've we've seen guys like kiana. Neil ricardo allen demonte casey all go down with season ending injuries over the past several years so some of that is not just simply the nature of the nfl but some of it has been talented issues. I am of the mind that some of that is hopefully knock on wood in the past I want to start with the safeties. Because i wanna finish up with what we've got corner. They brought in to veterans to anchor the safety position for now. They're both on one. Year deals eric harris doron harmon and behind them are what i think are two really promising players. I think next year. Probably going to be our starters at safety second round. Pick richie grant and fourth round. Pick from last year. Jalen hawkins who. I think you could argue that one of the best pre-seasons of any defender on this roster. So let's start with the the two presumed starter for now. What do you feel about harrison in harmon and after that talk about the potential of hawkins grant. Yeah you know. I can catch a lot of las vegas raiders football because i tend to value my time. I but i know right but it you know. Hey of i think they know but you know you look at a guy like eric. Air from all accounts super high character. Guy You know solid run support. can step up in the box and make some plays there can get touched up in coverage a little bit That could be a product of the raiders secondary as a whole which is not exactly like he's coming over to the the twenty thirteen e hawks From the raiders. But i think it'd be decent and run support You may have to get him out of there on nickel and bringing a jalen hopkins or grant. But i think doron. And he's just he was made de defense. You know all the time you spent. I don't know if there was any overlap between these new england. But you know that's switch ability That ability to move around and by all accounts is another guy. he's just super high character. Guy observer You know very very Very much in a leader role which is which is good to have it out of a safety And so i like those guys. I think armand will earn a second contract. I don't know about harris But i think harmon. I think he's gonna fit right in. I think he's gonna make a lot of good places now. Think about can give them an extension. But that's putting the car before the horse so Yeah i it's on the two guys. I don't know if they're gonna be the savior for every single little problem that we have. But when you talk about going from ricardo allen and guys who have been there forever It's it's definitely a different look. It is and it's i'm with you. Eric harris i think is he's decent enough. He's got issues that we're going to have to work around You know when you're signing. You know veterans like this to be essentially stopgaps He's i think he's good as you get for sort of that price range. You know so when you're shopping at dollar tree you're not getting top notch target up flirts and we got the best of the dollar tree brand. I you know. I think harris is better than dollar trade. Let's be very clear But i'm with you drawn harmon has. He's he's thirty years old he's been league for wall. I think his mentorship of grant hawkins is very notable. As you mentioned he is someone who has taken both those guys Under his wing. In particular richie grant and that i think is going to pay dividends over long term and i really love. The falcons have brought guys like that. That are mentors. Now hawkins in grant again last year hawkins was able to play a little bit until he got injured in in sort of missed out on the last several games of the season when he was in there I thought he played fairly well. I did not anticipate sort of the jump that he would make from last year to what we saw this. Preseason his individual play preseason looked really a big leap forward. Richie grant i think fans need to understand. Dean pees asks a lot of the players in his second year. He expects all of these guys to know every position in the responsibilities of those positions. And that's gonna put a lot of pressure on those safeties on the linebackers and you know grant is probably gonna need some time to get used to all of those responsibilities. He can't just learn being a safety. He has to know what it's like to be a corner. He has to know what it's like to be linebacker. That is a big ask and for any rookie to come in. It's gonna take time and if he's not on the field up immediately that does not mean he's bust. The talent is there. I think he's going to be fine. I'm really bullish on what he is going to do. On the back half of this year and in the twenty twenty two. So what do you feel about hawkins grant in their long term potential. Yeah and you're totally right about the days. And i think that's why we saw the falcons make a lot of the choices. We did in the draft saying anything groundbreaking. It's been a hundred times a day. Targeted intelligent guys An older guy seniors captains guys who appeared to have their head on their shoulders. The defense is not easy to learn. There's a lot going on But that was that was one that was my that was my own hocken. Felt like hey you know. He looks like he's really developing. I think that's something. A lot of people were banking on to start season And that's very encouraging. Besides i gotta shot him out. When i was out and breakfast got absolutely lost. Our trust i mean i remember. I was like somebody's house. Because i didn't know parker has to. Whoever you to you know one of the fifty tight end behind had out there like somebody just got eight up august. You know he. We saw i make a couple of good plays during the free stephen shoring up that back in play in that centerfield role and i think he's i think he's gonna see a lot of wing-pong especially in nickel and i trust the. I think he's gonna be okay back there. I'm not really worried. About and Yeah richie granted. Didn't look spectacular. But the thing is he's a rookie. you'd like you said there's a lot to learn a decent and i think the guys ahead of him i will allow him to come on and spots and kind of get get some feel for the game. Get some of that game sets. He has great instincts he had things. Ucf that's obviously a big jump in competition. And and and i think he will grow into. I think by you the season we're going to be feeling a lot. Better about rich brent. Yeah hundred percents Do want to note. The falcons have tj green listed as a safety. He's probably going to be more of a quote unquote. Db where he is going to see. Time both at safety and a corner He's a bigger player. I think he's like six foot three but he's a player that i think is well is he's gonna be more of a backup anyways but he's going to be deployed by ps sort of all over the field when he does come in so another player that i'll just mention him. But how do you feel about the safeties and what. What kind of grade would you give this unit. You know this. This is one that. I wrestled with By the way shut off. Cj green good for many or that's body played really well.

"Whether or not the falcons would keep a fourth guy back there. And it's during ethridge. Who played a fantastic game in that first. Preseason ended up arguably being a little bit more consistent than some of the guys. He was competing with. He has made the initial fifty three man roster. I feel like this is a position that it's going to be relatively stable. Enroll thompson was one of the guys. That was in competition here. I could see him. Potentially going to the practice squad for this team really liked what he did as well in this preseason but right now during ethridge the only other undrafted free agent other than philippi. Franks to make the fifty three man roster. I think he's relatively safe. I think we can run with this now as we get into the defensive backfield. This is where things get interesting. The falcons are going to be running running with eleven total defensive backs now. I think most people thought the max number for the defensive backs it was going to be around ten. So they're they're running one heavier than what most people projected really with that being sort of four safeties five corners and in that that tenth player being sort of a hybrid player that can play both safety and corner. Let's start with the safeties obviously drawn harmon. Eric. harris or the to presumed starters the veteran starters the one year rentals at the safety position and then of course. You've got At the the the backups. For those guys Richie grant who our second round draft pick and then jalen hawkins arguably one of the most improved players from last year to this year Who we think also is going to see a lot of playing time now. The corner position. This is where. I think things are a little bit interesting obviously. Aj terrell fabien moreau or the to pencil in starters. They've looked good from what we've seen from them. In camp in limited playing time in the preseason and then behind them. you've got isaiah. Oliver who is the presumed nickel corner. Who has actually played pretty well. I think he played pretty well in the back. Half of last year in this revised position for him. And then darren hall and avery williams the to drafted corners. They have made the roster. Darren hall maybe a little bit more surprised but again. I don't think the team wants to walk away from any of their drafted rookies. The they wanna hang on to these guys whether they play him or not so hall could be someone that In the very similar way kept inactive on game days and they're keeping him to pull him into the twenty twenty two season unless injuries of course happened. The head of him every williams. Clearly i think is going to be the punt returner of choice for the team going forward. Tj green who. I feel like really had a very very strong season in the last couple of preseason games that last one may have played him onto the roster his player. It's got some size. He's one of the guys. I think that can sorta platoon. Between safety and corner. He has made the roster so kudos to him and kendall. Sheffield is currently on the roster. Here's a guy that i felt was on the bubble. He did not play at all in the preseason. He is barely practice in fact. I don't know that. He is practiced once many of us thought he would either be put on the pup list or put on injured reserve. This could be something where he could be returning in the very near future. And the falcons just are not willing to move on from him yet. But he has for now made the roster. I will say this. I do feel like this is a position. Where if they're going to add another offensive lineman or even potential another running back. I like one of these defensive backs could be the guy to go and honestly. I still think i'm going to continue to say that. I think kendall sheffield's going to be that guy simply because his second season was such a downturn of performance the injuries this year i could see them trying to stash him on the pup list and obviously that would be six weeks before you would be able to see him again. I feel like there's maybe an additional change coming for the defensive back so this is definitely wanted to keep an eye on but right now sheffield has made the roster and of course the the specialist. Josh harris long snapper young way coup. For the kicker and cameron is lack has made it as the punter The former holder or former teammate of young way coup is also now made the roster as well so kudos to those guys As i mentioned before this is and you're going to see a lot of people saying this and it bears repeating. This is the initial roster. I think we're going to see more moves made even possibly today or tomorrow as these other guys are cut. The falcons are pretty high in the the chain for claiming guys off waivers because of the record last year so if they go and claim a guy there's a good chance that they'll get him likewise if a veteran this cut a specially again i think on the offensive line because of the lack of depth there. I think that is a position. They can look to address. End some of the guys. I think even though right now they're on the roster who are are not necessarily on sure footing. If you asked me to put that down to a list i would say number one. Felipe a franks do think. They'll try to put him on the practice squad at some point. But i just don't see them trying to carry three quarterbacks all year long Josh rosen again. I think this is more about the team wanting to give him a longer. Look but i don't think he's unsure for either. I think the team could still look for another veteran quarterback to be the true. Backup to matt ryan this year. So the two quarterbacks behind matt ryan or on my list for a.

"They're going to have to show up on special teams and last week. I was speaking with evan. After the post game podcast. We're talking about the fact that you know you always gonna see a vanilla offense in preseason. Most of the time you'll see vanilla defense but the one thing where there's not going to be a variation where you can get a good feel for what it will look like during season is special teams and how these guys execute is gunners as protectors as returners That is really where you're going to make the biggest impression in this preseason game so what is your what are your thoughts on special teams and the sudden first half and again the criticality of being able to carve out your role on this unit before you can even talk about being a starter on defense offense criticality that's nice word Thank you I i think one of the interesting things Having having been there and and kind of covered it while the league was adjusting their special teams rules with wedges wedge busters all of that stuff. I remember being in kind of like a little media. Coaching session that the falcons would hold and they were talking about. Just the changes in the way that that special teams was now being officiated. You know having to be ten yards back from the line the boundary areas all of that stuff and one of the key changes was earth. That was kind of a result of those changes. Was that less offensive. Lineman defensive ends these bigger guys. Who used to you know. I remember ben garland was always on the kickoff return unit because he would be one of the last guys back there and kind of be the center of that to manager three men wedge right in front of the returner. That's no longer the case. You're not gonna see those guys. Instead it's going to be linebackers tight ends and then corners and wide receivers as as your gunners yo as we talked about roster construction. I think it's important just to set the table right there. Because these are the positions that are going to be impacted the most by fantastic lanes depth chart. So when we're looking at those guys like foyer con. I remember Keith armstrong said. He was the first person that really brought up foyer to us when he was a rookie. Because he said in the special teams meetings. This dude gets every answer right. He knows every answer to every question that i asked him. He just knows what to do is reliable and dependable. Obviously we see what kind of player foyer has become so these younger guys like errol thompson. You mentioned during ethridge. I thought it was very encouraging richie. Grant made the opening tackle on the kickoff. Yes first game i think. Tj green who kind of ran down the returner when he broke it off for big run and basically stopped him from getting shown. These hustle plays your going to get a lot of breakdowns in special teams. I felt really bad for josh harris. Because he kind of was in his lane on that big return and then the guy's feet because he was a gab over. And whoever was supposed to be manning that gap was was assignment. And i feel bad for him because i noticed that happen. But you're going to get mistakes. It's who kind of threw sheer effort and will makes plays and that's both from a return aspect and from a like a goner aspect a little bit harder to evaluate everybody on special teams. Because you just don't get good angle from the broadcast. It's a much better endzone angle. Which is why. I always good coaches film because special teams just. You can't see a lot of guys but really just the young the rookies. That's the showcase for for them. So guys like avery. Williams chris williamson richie grant. Tj green The the linebackers. That i mentioned the because like jacob tierney mariners. Another person who kind of cut his teeth on gauge russell. Gays was drift drafted. Precipitated your energy guys and then you develop them there and you get the most out of them you you encourage them. They worked themselves in roles. usually on defense whether sometimes it's the by jane graham who's always my favorite player to watch on special teams but but these easier energy guys. These are the the ones where the motor of the team. Kind of really comes from So it's absolutely even in specialties. Maybe the most important aspect of the game to watch which is totally flipped from the regular but real real quick. I want to go back to to your point about dean. Because i kind of had a go for it while you were talking about him and if i could philosophical for a second which i often do Do it. it's it was so fascinating him. Call that first. Preseason game man because you mentioned you mentioned medven aspect to preseason. That's usually very true. It's it's just super cookie-cutter. Here's what we're running in the. Nfl runs the same stuff in preseason and then in practice. That's where you kind of throw in your wrinkles. Dean pees just threw that out the window. Nobody ever told dean pees you were supposed to be vanilla on metrics. He's game. But i think that's a excellent thing. Because this is a different philosophy for these defenders the cover three zone defense relies on making offenses work them selves down the field in small little chunks. Put together fifteen play drives that resulted in a touchdown. The bet is that by not allowing you to beat them deep keeping everything in front. Eventually the offense will either make a mistake or the defense will make a play one sack there behind the chains. And it's very hard for them to then make it up. Because they're playing to the defenses strength. That's what dan quinn rely to do that. You usually get a four-man rush and you dropped seven coverage yeah issue is when you're not able to win with a four-man rush and.

"With him. When i was doing some research. I i was kinda surprised. I guess i shouldn't have been. But i was surprised. He's only been a sixteen game starter once in his career and now last year in detroit right. He's he's spent the duration of his career prior to that in a platoon in three Safety system with the new england. Patriots alongside patrick chung and devin mccourty. So it ideally. That's the role he's gonna play in atlanta like he'll start out as the defacto like free safety starter. But you know if all goes according to plan your mixing richie grant in their year. Even maybe mixing jalen hawkins in there. And he's continuing to thrive in the role that he's thrived his entire career. And that's a three safety looks. So that's kinda my outlook I guess to throw in one. More name You know it seems like this is a five person race Tj green has has been one of the surprise standouts. A guy that came over to the team last year former second round. Pick of the colts in two thousand sixteen has bounced around indianapolis seattle new orleans in in private atlanta. He spent some time in carolina Very good athletic. Testing a six two and a half two hundred nine pounds ran a four three four which is really impressive for guy that size Thirty nine and a half inch for ten foot nine inch broad so guy that has the athletic profile that you look for from db in there is a connection as well. The falcons on offense Outside linebacker coach ted monitor. Chino was defensive coordinator indianapolis. Oh i don't know if that has anything to do with You know him getting a real hard look and you know knowing what they have in the building in him. And then also terry fought. No you know. I mentioned he. Greenspan a season in new orleans dairy no ran the pro personnel department there. So i'm sure he had a huge hand and bringing him there for a season so he's wanting to watch he's been cross training. Not only at safety net. Cornerback owner those with kennel. Sheffield being out so certainly intriguing. Name that again depending on how the development of which grant goes which. I'm sure we'll get into in a little bit. You could see some significant time. Early on as richie acclimates and south to the nfl. Yeah absolutely. I think same pages you. Eric harris formerly undrafted. He's thirty one years old Obviously I think they're really hoping that one whether the young guys whether it's tj green or you know even preferably Richie grant ultimately leapfrogs harris. I think they would be pleased if that happened. But he fits the profile. He's a guy that you know. He's got the size He can move around well enough You know looking at this. Pf grades a his best. Year was a couple years ago when he was in the mid seventies which is not bad for a for a guy his draft capital just to say none and to add on that that mid seventies grade came when he was kind of a a rotational player. So again and you can. You can say the same thing about their on. Harman i you know. His best grades came when he was in that platoon. So that's that's where. I think the falcons wanna get. These guys is not playing significant snack. When they do things could maybe get a little bit dicey there back there. So that's where we see exactly. It's the right when they started getting more snaps their scores start dropping now in fairness that could be you know when i look at harmon in you. You realize okay you know. He was in there in the world. That's where he had his best grades. Or i'm sorry not new orleans new england and he finally did get Over a thousand snaps with detroit. He was still decent of his. You know we're looking at his. Pf grade who was in the mid sixties which sounds bad. But it's not like a high school grading score that's sort of an average. Nfl player by their by their metrics prior to that he had several seasons in the mid the high seventies. so harman's got the capability to be a good a part time starter and a guy like you said who is part of a platoon and not necessarily carrying every single snap at position In again for the fact that these two veterans they've been in the league for a while. I think the the intention here was instead of just turning over the safety position which is very important in. Dp's defense instead of turning it over to a bunch of young guys that are unproven. That have never started in the nfl before it made sense to bring these guys in in my feeling. Is the minute the minute. One of the young guys is ready to take on significant snaps. They will supplant eric harris or harmon or both at some point during the season if they are not ready. Then you've got these two veterans on your rental deals and no harm no foul so it. It was a smart move in my mind from tariff on note to bring these two guys on it. This is the kind of signing. it doesn't get you a lot of a fancy points with the fans. People they wanna see. Richie grant out there. Because he's the second round pick they wanna see him jalen hawkins because he was a draft pick from last year but really to stabilize the center of that defense Having news These guys out there. Even if they're not necessarily going to be top tier players. They should be decent enough. And i can already hear fans complaining about. Oh we should want decent players. Well honestly decent players are what you need to help you transition to the next tier of guys to bring up the young guys. These are the kind of guys that help you. Bring along richie grant at the proper speed instead of You know we talked about on your podcast this week. You throw richie grant to the wolves that could absolutely decimate his confidence You have those veterans walking him to the process the available to him to answer questions to.

"It would be huge if john kaminsky can prove to be a very solid starter for this team the season and if some of those guys were gave three drop fix the past few years. Can you know develop and step into those starting roles because this defense just doesn't have very many strong bodies and you know strong players at least looking at it right now on gapui training camp. There's not too many stars up down this defense and it you know it would be. It would be really really great and it would be a boon. If john kaminsky can prove to be not a star but a solid starter on this team so. I'm glad he's getting that opportunity. And i'm rooting for him to be successful until to make the most of it. Yeah yeah jenkins. He's a guy that i really liked coming out. I believe the only day three pick i've ever correctly. Predicted for the falcons. So he has to leo pan out to support my honor there but i do really like the fact that they're giving him some more opportunities Just a ridiculous athlete. And like i get why they were moving him more to the interior because if you look at his relative athletic scorned the interior. It's even more ridiculous. His you know score on the outside was almost equally ridiculous. But mean we're talking like ninety nine th percentile athlete as an interior rusher in like ninety fifth percent. I think there's an extra russia. This man was running down feel special coverage plays at two hundred eighty. Five pounds in like outrunning linebackers. He he is a ridiculous athlete. Coming from i think it was even maybe division three charleston to the. Nfl was always going to be a big step up for him. But he i think has been arguably the most impactful rotational defensive. Lineman the falcons have had since he was drafted particularly last year so excited to see what happens to him this year if he can take on a larger more prominent role going forward Let me get to a donation. Real quick from kotida with the three dollars. Thank you brother for that support. We do really appreciate that guys. Thank you as always enjoy the falcons content. You guys put out especially for me as someone from germany. Nice to have so much content about my favorite football team also. Did you see that. Bum matt ryan tossing interception. I'm sure odd on did Because he is. You know the resident matt ryan hater. So what is your take on. Matt ryan very bad interception. Well first of all a big shout out to germany You know right now. It's seven pm where you are so a lot earlier than the regular wednesday live shows which over there would be or want to say two. Am yeah so Big shout out. My sister actually just moved there Few about a month ago got married and moved down there. So you know big Pro germany where very pro germany. Show over here. Yes but yeah shadow najah but everyone watching internationally i see. Dsp says sees from glasgow a big thank you to everyone watching overseas and you know bell golic live is very a very international program As as we can tell. But you know as from ryan you know. It's no surprise someone who who got intercepted by his offensive coordinator back in the back in two thousand sixteen But now that i saw play. It looked like a really really great undercut by beyond jones. The the pass was a little behind mike davis. But you know we'll we'll we'll work out the kinks with that as we get into the year but it's day two of training camp guys okay. Let's not panic too much. But yeah i mean what we can always cut him and We can always cut matt ryan and go. I can't even make match matchup joke right now. You know what would it be fully bay. Franks it the way ranks would be Would be the guy right now. He's ready yet next step. Yeah that's a. That's dave chote high right there but yeah i know it was a it was a great play by dion jones and i think that can segue us into our next topic talking about you. Know how great dion jones and Richie grant and zombies defenders. Look look today day. Two of training camp. Yeah yeah. Two of the biggest plays That we saw today. One of them obviously was caught on video. By the falcons media staff. Excellent play You know. I think to be fair. Mike davis would have caught it. If the jones wasn't ingrate coverage so you know it wasn't a great throat Obviously but mike davis great receiving running back would have caught that ball if not for being right there so this very good coverage play despite the fact that yes it was not a perfect throw. We didn't see footage of the richie grant pass breakups slash forced fumbled depending on who you ask But yeah. That was another impressive player. Richie grant came in dislodged. The ball from undrafted Tight end ryan becker And another portion of practice. So you know the defense coming to play getting these turnovers. These pass breakups the coverage in particular. I guess is looking good to start camp. What are your thoughts on. You know we know dion great and coverage. What are your thoughts on on the rookie. Richie grant Standing out early in the process your support for this episode comes from forward..

"The safety class, they didn't like the defensive line class. So, at some point here tonight, I would say maybe even early in round two, we're going to get a run on some of the safeties and we're going to get a run on some of the defensive lineman, like, Christian barmore, and Davion Nixon, and some of the guys still on the board there. So whenever that runs starts the three guys, that I would look for at the top, are obviously more. I really like, Richie grabbed from UCF. I think he's a great athlete and a guy can play The Deep mid-month. For you. And I also like Jevon Holland from Oregon a lot. Those three guys, I think can play safety for the Patriots and play the type of role that they want them to play Holland in and Grant in particular prank is a more impactful player in terms of playmaking, right? Turning the ball over, being a physical presence. Absolutely those for the ball, right? He's going to be more of that Ball Hawk for you, but Richie Grant and Javon Long Island are more versatile. I would say in our guys that can play out of the slot or play in the box has man coverage Defenders or they can play The Deep half or the Deep third of the field in the middle of the field. So those are guys I think you can move around a little bit more like a Devin McCourty and you can move them around from different spots and be able to play those different variations of Defense. Now, safety, I think is definitely on the board corner, I think was on the board. Now when you look at the corner bored, after a lot of the guys that went last night, it doesn't stack up really great for the Patriots. Tyson Campbell from Georgia is the best corner still left. He's the best outside dog. Are still left as well, guys. Like, Asante Samuel jr. The kid from Washington on biking on his name. Rodger Moulton. Yeah, as in Malden, those guys are to me a little bit more nickels off. Maybe slot defenders in the league, Asante Samuel jr. Might be able to play that like Z, you know, travel with inside-outside type of vehicle. He's not a man corner like he does not have, but he's more of life's bills. Archetype of like, maybe playing some man in some cover too. You know like that's more of his fit. I don't know that. He's a patriot like a Patriots Corner. Yeah. Yeah, let me ask you do cuz I know what are your guys? Andrea Thomas at ninety-six. So I like Amber in Thomas a whole lot and this is one of those drafts where, if Amber, Thomas didn't opt out last year. He plays for Michigan in 2026, has another good season. He's definitely a top 100 pick in this class, right? So, that's, I think the question is where do they feel? Where do they grade Abril? Thomas, in terms of the opt out in terms of birth, Off the 2019 tape. I really liked him at ninety six or if he's still there. We drafted him in our last mock draft at like 1:20, right. I think it was so maybe that's a good spot for Ambry Thomas as well, but I think all of those things you can you can look at corner. You can look at safety certainly defensive back. I think is definitely on the board. The question I really have though is that I said it you know, at what point do you kind of? Look at it receiver and say okay you know we have a quarterback now and knock Jones who is not an a playmaker necessarily at the office in there and that and then natural Talent type of aspect varieties. Not Justin Fields, he's not Cam Newton, even in terms of The Duality of what he can do..

"Richie Grant just went to the Atlanta Falcons at number 47 Jenkins 39 to the Bears is of the latest right pick 41 9th Pick in the second round, then the Giants In the 40 Niners at 43, so only three picks away. What do you see it on the board here with a lot of guys in the last few picks. I think it helped the 40 Niners because I don't think they would want with any of the last three or four picks that were taken. Well, the big defensive tackle from Washington our good friend Doug Hendrickson's client just went But, Dougie, I win the bet. Because I told you bar more would go in front of your guy. And he did as far as the Niners if they want to corner Kelvin Joseph from Kentucky is a tremendous player. Asante Samuel. You heard Dennis. Brown talked about earlier. He's a really, really nice player. Um, you know if to me those of the two guys at that spot, But to me the number one guy is is Jeremiah Woo Suk. Or, Um Oh, and the fact that he has fallen one pick away speeding injury. There's gotta be something right. When Johnny just isn't It's weird. Just some teams don't know where to play him. They don't know They don't think he's good enough against the run The plays a stack backer. They don't think he's quick enough. As as an athlete to play strong safety. Every down at the NFL right now is your look. I know that chest piece to move around he he's played safety. He's been in the slot. He's played weak side, linebacker mean when you think of today's NFL, we're just looking for speed that somebody like that would fit fit Somebody. Yeah, I mean to me, you know, figure it out. That's what I would say fit. Guys figure it out. He's explosive. He's to 20 to me. He reminds me a lot of Derrick Brooks. He flies to the football. He's instinctive. Um, He's a guy who's he is a hybrid. He is He's not. He's going to be an undersized, weak side backer, or, you know, I don't know how the Niners feel about did they feel he can be plays a stack backer, But this guy makes place he smart. He's pro day was crazy plated about 2 15. He showed up to 20 and he still worked out. Very naturally. I mean, he's or core Mo is one of the great players in college football, and I think at the worst, he's a Pro Bowl linebacker. I think this kid is one of the you know, could be one of the best players. I'll make a prediction. John 10 years from now, people will look back and say. Jeremiah Lucey. Korma went the second round. Wow. I mean, that's how good he is. So I like him a lot. But there's also some good receivers. Here. Let me go through some of these Just because, like you said, maybe they take him because the value is just so good. But the two positions we've really focused in on his corner. You just mentioned Joseph. A kid out of Kentucky that transferred over from Ellis you That's nice. Elijah Moore is the only guy we're only receiver to go in the second round. Terrence Marshall Junior mentioned ls she Rondell? More is more of a guy that's gonna be in the slot from Purdue. Omari Rogers is a guy from Clemson, probably more of a slot guy. Nico Collins will bigger doing. Eskridge had a good Senior Bowl Western Michigan more of a slot guy. If there's a receiver, do you like any of those guys or somebody else there? I mean, Rhonda Elmore ran 4 to 9 and and he was a productive player, so and he plays bigger than its size, but its size is tiny, so I don't know It's a deep receiver draft. I don't think the values there to me at the value is either on somebody like a core Mo who slides Or I'll tell you there's three edge rushers here, you know Aziz social Ari, who the Niners did meet within the pre draft and he was the defense of M V P of the Peach Bowl. He had, like three sacks and two forced fumbles. Um, six to about £250 and just comes, you know, Think of Leonard Floyd with the Rams OSHA. Ari just comes flying off the edge. He's not an advanced pass rusher. But he's big time. Talent and big time. Speed off the edge and white 90 be a beast. And then Ronnie Perkins from Oklahoma and Joseph, aside from Texas. Those three pass rushers air all really, really special. You know, Perkins is good against the run and against the past and just made play after play after play for the Sooners corner is another spot You mentioned Calvin Joseph Aaron Robins, Air Robinson, Central Florida Sunday Samuel Junior's been talked about a little bit smaller out of Florida State, Elijah Mold anus. Probably a slot only, but he's really, really good Mela fun. We remember his brother flamed out with the Raiders, but he's a big corner out of Syracuse on. Then there's Paulson and Deebo sitting there from Stanford, who you know well, so if they go corner, there's quite a few corners as well. And in a few of them fit that size profile that right now, the 40 Niners don't have the roster after losing Sherman Yeah, and and I'll tell you the You know the corner that I think the real sleeper corner is the Ellis you kid Carry Vincent Jr. Who doesn't have the prototypical big time size, John. But Man. I mean, the ball skills, the athleticism the way he tracks the ball in the air. I mean, he'll hit you guy place fast. He's got a tremendous burst. I mean, if you watch him, he was a really, really good cornerback for the Tigers the last couple years. Good athlete ball skills can play the nickel can play outside. You know, he's Vincent Donaghy has that physical swagger He's dominating. He made. This may be a little early for him. He may be more of a third round pick. I kind of think overall that the third round is the sweet spot for the corners and not the second round. But the need for the Niners may make them go corner here. All right. But again, we're one pick away the Giants. The New York Giants are on the clock right now. So the 40 Niners have a lot of different ways. They could go a lot of guys. I don't think they're gonna go safety. But my favorite safety in the in the draft, Theron more egg from TCU. He's more of Ah, you know, rangy guy. They've already got that kind of in Jimmy War they, Mort need more and maybe of strong safety with tart. Only having one year left on his deal, But he may be a guy that just has so much again. You're looking at value here. You may just save yourself. Well. Jeez, This is what we need. But like you say, You know when you're looking at guys like, you know, J. Okay. And you're you're saying Look, we don't really need a weak side. Linebacker slashed chess piece defensively, but he's so good, and we've got him ready so highly. That's what starts happening in these rounds. Running back. You were probably waiting like you said they could use a back, probably especially given Some injury history back there, but probably too early for a guy like Carter. I would imagine he's probably more of a third rounder, fourth rounder type. So again, they could go on a lot of different directions. All right, So this is the pick. Four. The 40 Niners, right? The pick is in in Miami actually has moved up in another trade. Tons of things Gotta be aware this is probably core. Amoah. All right, let's go. Let's go to the voting with Miami Straight 42nd pick.

Ronnie Perkins Doug Hendrickson Elijah Moore Richie Grant Rhonda Elmore Nico Collins Jeremiah Lucey Omari Rogers Dennis Elijah Mold Carter Jeremiah Woo Suk Kelvin Joseph Vincent Donaghy Deebo Perkins 20 Derrick Brooks Atlanta Falcons Joseph

"Member of the Atlanta Falcons. Um, I saw Central Florida play a lot, but not this year. Last year, so I have not seen Ah, lot of Grant. I know his his NFL, um, work days, so to speak when he ran it. He didn't. He didn't run a great time You're in for five. Something. But Richie Grant is a very physical player and a guy that when you look at Atlanta's defense the last couple of years many did. They need us many good defensive players as they can possibly get. Let me throw this out there in terms of Sort of the overall social media reaction to the Broncos selection last night, the ninth pick and in Pat's pertain. Wonder how Bronco fans may look at this a month or so from now, And the reason I say that is and we talked about this last night, and I'm not trying to turn this into some sort of Uh, issue but I do feel like the people I talked to last night on this morning that we're absolutely certain that the Aaron Rodgers Deal is not dead. And that Aaron Rodgers is not going to play this year in Green Bay, and that the Broncos are one of two teams that the guys I talked to said that they clearly think have the best shot at Aaron Rodgers. Now the Broncos. They're not going to comment on this, and I can tell you this. I'm not going to ask him. Especially after last night. But but but I do think it's worth mentioning for Broncos fans to maybe be a little bit patient, My gut. Tells me exactly what I was told last night and today that that is not a sure thing, but that that deal is not done. I would say Based on my knowledge of the conversations I've had last night this morning. I would absolutely agree with that. Not done. Aaron Rodgers is telling anyone and everyone who will listen. Come get me. On. He is relate that to teammates he is not. He's saying he is not coming back. I talked to some people up there in Green Bay. Who said, you know, yesterday morning if you'd asked me if I'd say 100%, he wouldn't get dealt today. I would flip that the other way around. I can't see him coming back. Here s so I would suggest that teams were doing temperature checks. I don't think there's any you know. Reports about a deal imminent yesterday were a bit premature, but Him get moved. I think it's very possible. I think I think and I want to see what you guys think is well. I think that the NFL is changed the last few years, especially with guys like a Tom Brady like an Aaron Rodgers like a Drew Brees, guys that have all the money they'll ever need in the bank. Guys have been great players in this league and now for the first time, and when you talk about leverage with professional athletes Normally speaking over the last 2025 years, you talk about Major league baseball players and you talk about MBA players. You don't ever talk about NFL players. I think that is changing for at least a few of the special players in the NFL in the Frank to be frank about it. I think Aaron Rodgers has all the leverage. And if Aaron Rodgers can convince in the month of May That to the green Bay hierarchy that you know what no matter what you say what you do. I am not coming to camp. I am not going to play another single down in Green Bay. And if you think I'm kidding, then you're gonna have to call my bluff. But I'm telling you, I'm gonna eat burritos and subways and watch games this fault. And if that's the case if he digs in like that, I think the Packers have to At some point conclude that you know what we don't want to, But we're gonna have to trade him to get any sort of value out of him This year. They've not not just Broncos fans, but a lot of people on the radio, too. That fashion themselves to be NFL general managers. I think that that holds for them as well. It is going to be interesting to see what happens and I was thinking about Pat's for Tan. This guy is considered the best defensive player in the draft. He gets picked in the top 10. He comes to Denver and everybody's disappointed. It's gotta suck for him. So I think I think, though the disappointment was that they passed on Justin Fi exactly right right that they didn't take a quarterback there and patch her tans likely to be a very good player for a long time. For this football team, But he comes here in the fan bases is Ah little defeated and deflated. Yeah, going out. You know what I wanted to say about this is that I do believe that the Denver Broncos are still in the in the Aaron Rodgers sweepstakes and something that I thought about as I was driving home again last night. Highly disappointed, woke up this morning salty about not getting Justin feels and the thing that I thought about is that the Broncos did pick a defensive back. They did not trade out of that pick. They did not trade out of that pick and get more value of another number one next year, Because guess what they're going to give it away to the Green Bay Packers anyway, so why would you and enhance their package? Rather than just give them you know the picks that you intend to have after next.

"I just think you know, especially if they miss out or take somebody else at 10, I think that would be a great fit in a cover-3 scheme. I mean big he's athletic he is not his brother OB he understands that his brother had flaws I've talked to him was that he was probably over drafted because of his athletic profile and he knows that he was kind of soft and he is he very much doesn't he didn't say Thursday? But that's what like he intimated that a little bit and so I think that he really tries to be go that extra mile to be physical as a corner. Especially it comes to you know, defending the run and going up and attacking screens and then man like the draft really sets up pretty good for them to you know, maybe get a linebacker or a defensive tackle with that third round pick linebacker and d-tackle in this draft class. That's kind of where the strength is. There's not a bunch of high-end Talent at D tackle, you know, the one technique but there's a bunch of guys in that kind of range that I think would be good value there. It also linebacker depending on which guys fall Dylan Moses is probably going to be round and round 3 months bill Cox might be probably not especially after he test but he might be he's really really good in coverage and then there's just so many guys that you think one of them is probably going to be there at 75 wage. And then in the fourth round if they want to get a developmental free safety, you know, I don't I don't think they'll have a chance to get Trayvon more rig or Richie Grant with their second round pick. So I'm getting in developmental guy. Maybe it came Stearns who I'm showing your yeah aware of, you know covering the Big Twelve. He's somebody who I really like the upside of God, you know, maybe ardarius Washington and if the team is comfortable with his height, I really like the player and you know, there's there's other guys as well Divine Diablo timer last be from Missouri, you know, and then after that, you know, there's guys that I like at the one technique defensive tackle Cyrus Tonga from BYU on Dale Mabry somebody like to Darrell Slayton on day three from Florida 6 with four three hundred thirty pounds. He's got absolute levers as arms and he uses them really. Well. He's just he's dead. A great athlete and there's one techniques, you know, that's really where you can find Value in the draft on day three those guys cuz the NFL doesn't value. Who do you thinks the best defensive player in this draft man? That's a tough question. The highest grade that I have is a tie between J. Okay, Jeremih woosah, Carmella the linebacker safety hybrid and Micah Parsons dead. Those are the two highest grades that I have. Given their positional value. Those are not the guys that I would draft first. I would draft I actually have the highest film grade on Caleb Farley, but with the back injury and there's just no way that you can feel comfortable taking him that high and so he would kind of be my guy but I would take the two corners JC horn and Patrick Stewart an over the linebackers because of positional value package. Then I really really like. Jaelan Phillips the Miami Edge rusher as well, but he also has injury concerns. And so that pushes him down the board a little bit as well. He's the name that might be there at 44th because of all the the health issues and I mean, he would be a perfect type of blue star special for Jerry Parsons is so interesting because he seems to be such a polarizing Prospect so much talent..

"The Heisman Trophy winner? Devante Smith? What kind of pro? Do you think he's gonna make? Similar to Mack Jones in the sense that I think he's more dynamic. He's probably more NFL ready. He's a complete receiver. But with that lack of size and the stunt that he pulled the Senior Bowl. I don't think he's a good receiver for every single offense. I think if you're cold weather offense, you may shy away if you you know, you like to run the ball a lot. And you want your receivers to block downfield. A lot of the Baltimore Ravens, you may shy away from him. I think in Atlanta Falcons offense, the thousands who obviously don't need another issue, but that's sort of offense. Maybe even what the Miami Dolphins are trying to do. I think he'd be a very good fit. And the stunt that you're talking about. You're talking about him, refusing to be measured at the Senior Bowl. Not only just measured, but why did he even show up Because he didn't practice? You know, he took a roster spot and he went there and basically did nothing so not being measured was You know major blemish, but then he doesn't show up the practices, which I just thought was just really a bad public relations move. Yeah, we and we're for an Alabama player. I mean, like you think you know, coming on the next savings program. You'd be pretty buttoned down from that respect. Absolutely. Especially since you know his quarterback was there. You know, perform well. He had his left tackle there in Alex Leatherwood, who performed the offensive tackle. Brown was there and, you know, Granted, this was a different year in the sense that you didn't have. Hands. They're watching Senior bowl practices. But usually the Alabama players are the highlight of senior Well practices obviously is and reasons the event takes place in Alabama. But when he had all those other times even is running back a guy even the running back now Jay Harris, who measured in and then took a few reps here in there at practice. When he really didn't have to. It was just a bad move all around by the van to Smith. Hey, uh, Tony that we had several opt outs this year of guys that are viewed as his high draft picks. How did the How did the opt out? How did their decision to opt out or has it? Affected their draft stock either positively negatively or no effect at all. Well, I don't think it's going to affect anybody positively and only in the sense that these guys didn't get heart because they weren't on the field, but I think it depends on the player in the position. You can't broad brush it a guy like Penny Sewell of Oregon. I don't think it really affected him anyway. One shape or another. He's a terrific left tackle prospect. He's athletic. He was highly graded coming into the season, so I don't think a guy like that. Um, it's going to affect other guys will have to wait and see. My own personal point of view is guys like Michael Parsons of Penn State's celebs? Farley of the cornerback from Virginia Tech, I think is gonna have a negative effect on them. Parsons is a guy who's a great athlete. He's an explosive player, but his instincts or suspects Harley is a cornerback that showed flashed ability since his freshman season getting never put together one consistent year where we just basically dominated the opposition, and I think I've seen people talk about him as a top 15 pick. I don't agree with that on Lee because of the fact that he was very streaky at Virginia Tech, and I thought he really needed to play this season. Where the strength of this particular draft in the 1st and 2nd round Tony what? What positions of the positions of strength. Quarterback as we you spoke about earlier. I like the receiver class. I don't think it's his death at the lower end. But when you're talking about the first, you know 100 picks. I think it's very strong. I think it is a very strong offensive tackle class really strong, offensive tackle class. I think you know if you get caught. If you get past Kyle pitch is gonna be a very early selection. I think there is some good death at the at the tight end position and day two. Who are a few names that really helped themselves out at the senior Bowl of guys. Maybe you have any of you mentioned back Jones earlier. Who are some other guys that maybe were a little off the radar, but they've all of a sudden put themselves in the conversation to be in the mix, you know, moved up a day in the draft. Let's say Yeah, I think guys that were kind of off the radar outside the scouting community, Dwayne Eskridge. The smaller but explosive receiver out of western Michigan on Lee practice two days because he suffered a pectoral injury on day three but could not be stopped. I mean, he was separating from defenders every which way possible through his route, running with his speed down the field that was consistently 3 to 4 yards behind opponents. Any quote, everything thrown His direction. Obviously, the talk of the town has been Quinn miners, the small school guard from Wisconsin Whitewater who was absolutely dominant, I mean, basically had a alley market type of performance. Ali Market, the offensive lineman from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who's that was Super Bowl champion. Went to the senior ball about six years ago and destroyed everybody. That's what Quinn miners did pass rushing drills run blocking. I mean top level talent, which is burying them day after day. Think Richie Grant, the safety from Central Florida also elevated his play. You know, the senior ball is you sort of like the combine you go to the Senior Bowl with expectations. And if you beat those expectations, you come out of it with the higher draft grade than when you went in, and that's what Richard granted because people thought his ball skills were suspect, and he was intercepting past day after day in the middle of the field out on the flanks. Really showed himself to be a complete safety. Does the lack of a combine. Did that AMP up the importance of the Senior bowl for a lot of these guys? Absolutely no doubt about it. I mean, really, the senior Bowl except for the whole of all, which had some decent talent there, but overall was nothing compared to the Senior Bowl. When you really get down to it. The Senior Bowl was the on Lee major free draft event that's going to take place this year. The shrine game No combine We hope we get a bunch of pro days, although we don't know what that's going to look like, so absolutely. And I mean in some cases I mentioned Quinn miners. There were some guys who opted out of season You'd mention the opt out before it. Nico Collins and the receiver from Michigan and every Thomas, the cornerback from Michigan. It was the only chance that a lot of these guys are the first time that the guys have played football competitive football in more than a year, so absolutely was incredible importance on the Senior Bowl this year. "I also like Davis Mills out of Stanford. Uh, I feel like he should have stayed in But he's been so hurt all the all the nonsense with covert and everything like that. They've had to deal with his only started 12 games. But he has Andrew Luck talent, and that means it's first round talent. He's most likely gonna haul the third or fourth round. So if the team is able to find a guy like that, you could really get the steal of the draft issue, especially in a year where you're not going to get him at the combine. You're gonna have virtual workouts, so ah, lot of teams may miss him. They missed on him and The team finds him He may be the diamond in the rough when you're talking about quarterbacks in the later rounds, love here. I really enjoyed that conversation with Ryan Leaf. Give a follow on Twitter at Ryan D Leaf. You could find his work on Sirius. XM is a college football on NFL analyst. Also when they believe podcast network at BLEEP Podcast does Pac 12 podcast makes the time I appreciate it. You better have a wonderful Super Bowl weekend. I will. Thank you. Ryan Leaf will get the interview up in Broncos country tonight dot com. I've been so couple things there at the end, talking a little bit about what he thought of Vic Fangio kind of throwback coach. I thought that was cool. He talked about how much he likes drew lock. And I mean, ultimately, I kind of come back. And by the way his stuff on Bryan Mills. I can't wait to talk about Bryan Mills. We're gonna have Tim Jenkins on the next couple weeks to talk about Bryan Mills. So that's another one there, but his points about Drew locking this points about where this team is going. It's It's still interesting to me talking to different analysts where they come down on the optimism level. Because as much as he was a few civet is praise early on about Patrick Mahomes. He does sound like a guy necessarily that was eager to move on from Sherlock. No. And I think that You know guys who played the position and have a nuanced understanding of playing the position of what it takes to develop as a quarterback, especially a guy who didn't develop. Probably have AH, better bird's eye view and understand that hey, you gotta have patience with these guys. And especially if I got the tools you gotta put him in the right situation to be successful, And I think that there is a greater understanding of that from guys like Ryan, who tried in league and didn't make it. So I think one of the things that's gonna be a fascinating little litmus test for this team next year. And let's just play this out as though Drew lock is the starter. They improve a bit and win loss right to get around 500 or so let's just go even even across the board here, His numbers improve is touchdown. Interception is better, but maybe not in the elite echelon or or even in the Maybe he's in that middle third. Okay, so he's eased middle of the road starts quarterbacks. Everything else is his completion rate is improved north of 60, which is what you absolutely have to have in this league. So he gets to all those markers. What are we saying about Drew luck after the season? Well, I guess the question is. Did you make the playoffs or not? No, but he improved in every metric. Yes. If he's the reason you're losing games, then you're looking for somebody else. If he's not the reason you're losing games like the defense was an implosion of cratering, whatever, Um you know, then I think you're looking at me. Maybe we could give this one more year. Maybe there's a third year Josh Allen type break out. In this offense with him. I think you weigh the resume and you see, I I don't think that I think the Broncos if he withdrew lock, you're either going to make the playoffs and he's going to improve to that level. Or he's gonna be so bad you're gonna be drafting in the top, and I don't think there's middle ground. Okay, That's I'm saying, like, what if it is middle ground, And what if you're in playoff contention, like, you know, we're all doing what is but I'm just saying, like, let's just all things being equal kind of conversation he improves across the board. Statistically, it gets to a point we're talking about him is the middle tier quarterback, which is what honestly would be pretty good considering where he's coming from. We would be saying very positive things about him, even if it's not quite good enough, But I'm saying, like the problem is the things that he needs to correct. Are either going to push you into playoff contention to be good enough or they're not. And so that that's what I'm getting at is like I hear you on that. And what if what if you're looking for a new quarterback, if you have if you have a question if you're looking for somebody else After two years. You look for something else, but I don't think I think you're going definately. No, he's either going to improve dramatically to the point where it's not a question. Where he's gonna be so bad that it's not a question. I don't think there's middle ground for Drew lock. You don't worry about the veteran hedge coming in and keeping this team flow. If you're in contention at that point, and he's playing poorly, you're gonna put the veteran guy and then your questions already answered. No, And that's a good point. That's a great point. If he ends up being benched for performance, then you're probably going in a new direction. And you know what the answer is. You may not have a top 10 pick at that point. Well, yeah, it depends on how well the veteran does all right when we come back, you're gonna hear from safety Richie Grant. He blew up out there. The senior Bowl. It was so much fun to watch him. You know, he's one of hashtag, my guys. We'll get to that conversation with Richie Grant.

"We go, Coover. Come on, man. Yes. Broncos Country day. Then you go and totally redeem yourself. E don't know what that last song was, like, Rush or something. What was living room? Would you play last time? There was always be large. I'm not sure. What do you what? I know you're fond of. Oh, he's tried apart it off the large. Oh, no, I played white Lane. Wait, that's what it is. You can always play queen on this show. You know, White Lion fan. I'm more of a tears for fears kind of guy. Clearly everyone wants to rule the world. Yes, well, I mean, that's that is one song that they have. Yes, that's like one. Miller's song theme song. One of You Remember that? Yes, it was. It was three or 3713 85 85 star phone number 56 16 0 with the text line. Always been a fun show so far. Richie Grant will parks just now in ST Clair will get those interviews up it Broncos country tonight dot com. We're gonna Ryan Leaf coming up in the next hour. Not gonna wanna miss this conversation. We talk about the Super Bowl. We talked about the Broncos Big fan, Andrew luck. I'm a big fan, Joe. All this stuff also, he gives you a sleeper quarterback the quarterback in the mid rounds the draft that I can't wait to kind of dive into some, actually, a really big fan. I'm glad we're gonna talk about him. With Ryan Leaf, and it'll be in the next couple weeks as well. We'll talk with Jim Jenkins. He's gonna do a film breakdown on him, too. So you don't wanna miss that three or three again. 713 85 85 Alright, The news that came out earlier today was on Carson Wits. There was a lot of smoke with what might end up being fired, But we don't know yet. Because there were a lot of just mean I like you re tweet somebody that was talking about all the insiders out there Great Gabriel, Greg's a former director of pro player personnel for the Bears. He was kind of like, ladies like, Wow, There's a lot of lot of insiders out there. Throwing wasted wannabe insiders out there throwing a lot of stuff against the wall. So then one of the reasons I love having you on this show is you can kind of separate out and parse out all the BS. Tell me what is actually happening right now. With Carson wins, they got to know the Bears do have a call in Theo idea that they were cut. There was somebody out there with a report that they were closing in on the deal or something. That was not accurate. Um, I will tell you the Bears have a call in the Colts have a call in and Houston Texans have a call in Almost like we knew that particular call was coming. Um, I mean, I guess if you're Houston, and you're doing your due diligence at this point, you want to see what options are out there and see what options available. If you know, just just in case so, you know, I mean, if your quarterback decides to sit and doesn't wanna play, you gotta have somebody to jump in there so that you're not trading um Yeah. The Bears have a calling and they're interested. I'll say this. John De Filipo, of course, is out there in Chicago who was his quarterbacks code and Frank Reich was his offensive coordinator. You know, there's all kinds of all kinds of connections there. Um, I'll say this With Chicago. The people who are rooting for Nick Foles and Carson wants to be reunited, and it feels so good, right like peaches and Herb. I don't think that that's going to happen. I think that they would move Nick Foles right after that. I'm not forgetting to mention any particular Denver Broncos teams, but I'll just, You know, kind of casually throw that out there like I have been for three months and go from there. So if you're rooting for a fool's Wentz re union E. I think that that's not exactly the way that will play out. Long term memory probably still wanna have a decent hedge. Because Carson Winnitzki would be the you know would be the fault. You give me another chance. You know, in training camp, they kind of do something and you don't go from there, so I think that's really what the situation would be. You could see them try to move to risk instead of fools If the price is right, But I do think that fools be the one that tried to move. What is Carson Wentz going to get in trade? That's the question. Um I think the one Or maybe two twos. I think along the Alex Smith lines for the stuff that was floating out there to trade your floating out there because of certain was gonna get more than Matt Stafford. Yes, Yes, he was. Yeah, I was like I saw that today. I'm like way too. Once right. I had like the iron that contract the eye roll gift. The media's staring at the screen get, like all those holes. Yeah, There's people don't know what you're talking about. And so what happens is I want to draft picks back if I'm taking Carson Wentz contract. I'm not gonna get that kind of eating stuff. You will pay a premium right now. I'm just doing that He was like Gosweiler deal If you will pay a little extra for for wins more than what you thought, but this simply because the Eagles have to eat that, But, um, you know, it's not. This is the world of fake insiders. I've just go ahead. Do this. The world of fake insiders out. There is pretty funny. Um, the amount of people who don't know what they're talking about. And confirmed what other people are saying. Instead of reporting anything new and what they'll do, and this will help you guys help parts the difference When you see these reports The people who know what they're talking about. Put specific detail out there the people that don't but these kind of general vague statements out there or take someone else's putting specifics out there and then, like Adaline, to quote tweeted Adaline to it, but it really doesn't add anything to it there said. So when you see stuff like that, you could tell who the who the people with the information aren't who aren't on. I'll tell you like these people that were floating these trades with, you know, three first rounders or two first rounders and a player. Ah, it was we're not accurate. The Bears has some calls in. They were not. They were not a done deal. As of this afternoon, whatever that one report was, Um, but there is, you know, there are talks that are ongoing and that it could happen quickly. You have to say this is escalate pretty fast, Doesn't it feel like I mean, maybe he just seems like that. It just seems like in Carson and Doug Peterson didn't get along. Right. Um, you know it. Doug Peterson is their reports right before the end of the season, and he was requesting a trade, right? But then again that you know, some people thought, well, you're gonna move on from Doug Peterson. Then whoever they bring in, Of course, they brought in Victoriana, who was a frank, right disciple. We figured that was, you know, kind of like what if they regret that higher now, But, you know, I think that you know, we'll we'll see with next reality. If he's able to be the guy who's been a guy who's been groomed for him ashamed Station with.

"High safety, a traditional safety all the way back plays in that zone, whether it's zone in the middle of field or his own, taking one half of the field and strong place on the strong side of the ball. Generally, they'll come down in the box a little bit, too. On T. J. Ward was kind of a strong safety box safety that kind of thing, perfect example. And and the thing is, is he played a little bit of both. In fact, you know, honestly, I kind of liked him a little bit. Maura's as a roamer, a guy that has a chance to make a play in the ball because that's where he got most of his work. What you get is forced fumbles came in the opportunities where, actually little bit of both So I don't know what you're gonna get. 10 10 interceptions. I mean, the guy is a question of all hard. Yeah, I'm here to get him on down. Let's do this. This should be the second round pick. All right. A couple more great interviews. Appreciate that again. We'll get the whole thing up. Somebody picked up on this quote. We can all dream with our feet on the ground. Thank you. I appreciate that. I Was talking about last night with cream Jackson news onto Shawn Watson and which really wasn't much news. But I was just talking about how we would love to have Shawn Watson here. I think we have to keep So basically our our Perspective on all of this. Be exciting, but we can also keep 1 ft. In reality During this time, I heard that quote before lyric to a Patrick Loosen his name. Matthews. You know, it's It's It's something really tough to tell a part of this poor jerk. See here. How do you not use star? 67? Is that what it is? I don't know. You know, I never pretty called anybody. Was pretty well. Last time I prayed, called somebody Landlines were a thing. Don't think caller I d was still like was prevalent. The last time I crank called somebody. Those from Keith in Orlando, Richie Grant was a huge, bright spot down here in an otherwise average secondary for UCF. I'll tell you what, though, And he said he'd be great pick for the Broncos. They had that transformation. It wasn't all on Richie. He didn't get a lot more. He got a steady dose of playtime in 2017 when they went undefeated. Prior to that, though he was there, and we didn't really get a chance to play. But like I said, once, he got a steady dose of playtime, they kind of just took off. And then he did come back from war. You and I'm glad he gave us a load of that answer about the reasoning for it is the Isaac. I wanted to put up some better numbers. I wanted to show that I was the ball hawk that I knew I could because it getting interceptions. In 2019 like they didn't happen he had yet so it's a decent tackle numbers and you know that's everything, but he just not have any interceptions. So he came back and got three last year. I get it, man. Go back. Look, I would have had the resume a little more before I go in and out in an interview for this job, I get it. I get it. I love that. Definitely. All right, so we gotta It's a clear coat up at the top of the hour. We're gonna get to Ryan Leaf a little later on guitar Super Bowl picks, But will grant will grant I'm Combining names that will grant will parks is joining us here on the program. I can get the most restaurant kitchen and get ready for next year. And that's pretty much about it, Man. There's a lot of family time right now. No, it's a smart move, especially with everything going on now. What do you usually do in the off season? Like what? I mean? You know you're a vet now, so you probably had experience in a different settings. What do you usually like to do to get ready for the season or how do you pace yourself during the off season? Uh, you know that she was pacing manages the ability to withstand with whole know the training. Um, that I want to do each and every day, man, obviously, um, you know, you gotta approach No, they're just using you know, different ways. He said. I would see the man you know, I was potentially about fancy a mental chanting Muslim aside. So that way you could come here with a fresh in the mind set for starters here, man, So I basically just Like I said, I like to spend time with my family. Um I like that. I wish I'd like to do different know various training methods, So I'll go to the General State basketball might go on box. Um, stuff like that. And I go walk around, shoot paintballs at paintball sails and My dad just doesn't matter. You know what's going on at the time, but I'm not using going too much. "Country tonight. Ryan Edwards, Benjamin. All right. Thank you. Quinn. Minors for joining us in the previous segment will get the interview of the Broncos country tonight dot com. There's a lot of fun talk to him. He was one of the stars is not often as an offensive lineman. You get noticed unless usually are making mistakes. But from day one, he was a guy that stood out. I did think that match up with Levi Osa Rekha. And Quinn miners was the best one. I appreciate him pointing out to U C L, a defensive tackle, but otherwise I I thought that was his his best match up. We only got to see a day one, but otherwise he likes that. He was just really good the entire time He came out and blew the doors off, and that's that's what you want to see. You won't see a guy like that it played at that level. Or in this case last year didn't play. You come out there and do them. You don't put to rest any of the competition stuff. You did see that you you mentioned Mark. Bet earlier. Been party. The guys like that, You know, they do have to answer those questions. And I He acquitted himself admirably. Absolutely. We're open to a catch with Richie Grant. By the way, maybe a little later on this week. We're efforting. If you will. Tomorrow on the program, we're gonna have Rod Smith and Kareem Jackson. Was part of an All Star lineup. We're also gonna have Tim Jenkins on to talk about Mack Jones, who Right back. Jones. He's got him is his second favorite quarterback. Just I mean, excluding forever. Lawrence right now because he hasn't yet section done tape on him, but he's got he's got Wilson's number one. You tell him. Uh, it does not surprise me that he has a non athletic, hyper accurate quarterback. Is this top guy? Yeah, I will definitely mention that. The best part, though, is he? We've got his list. And so he went. Wilson. I better actually pull this up because he was pretty funny. I don't want to see it. Speak out. Kendall, hidden in front of Trey lasted Yes, gentlemen, for a trail as I was, like, Do you gotta be kidding me? He was He was messing with people. But, yeah, it was. Of course, he was messing with people. But my goodness that Z That's pretty rough right there For all the Freelance hive. That is just out there on Twitter. We're gonna have George story from pro football focus here in a matter of moments, Also a little later on Ryan Konigsberg from D N v. R, and a nice article up on their website about no fans. Today, we'll talk to him a little bit about that wall to get into the quarterback care cell. It's kind of an interesting situation and again. Ben is gonna be some cold water on me. But I I think the quarterback care of cells one of the more fascinating topics this offseason. We'll get that. But I want to put out a stat real quick that was passed today. That I found fascinating. Between you know, because you have all these people takes nerves all the time to sit there. You have to draft a quarterback in the first round. You know you're not committed to him. If you don't know whatever. Whatever it is, they say, I don't know. It's like stupid anyway. 22. Quarterbacks were drafted in the first round between 2009. In 2016. Only one of those is still with the team that drafted him. 22 quarterbacks and I will list them. Tell you Josh Freeman, Mark Sanchez, Matt Stafford, Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, Christian Ponder Blaine Gabbert, Jake Locker. Cam Newton, Brandon Weeden, Ryan Tannehill, RG three Andrew Luck, EJ Manual. Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles, Marcus Mariota, Jamis, Winston, Paxton Lynch Jared Golf. And Carson Wentz is the only one still with the team. The dragging well, 2009 Andrew Lunches $1006 look, is retired. All right, let's head out to the hotline. Every got a very good friend of the program. Well, you'll remain a good friend of the program as long as he answers the next series of questions correctly, And that is George jury at Pff underscored George. First of all, George, It's good to have you on the program. How are you? I'm doing well. And that a swell is Andrew luck who is enjoying retirement at a young age, which right now kind of jealous of be honest with you, But I'm doing good man. I'm excited How you guys doing Good. It's weird. If you're Andrew luck and you find out you're trending on Twitter today. Even though you've been retired, and you really haven't done anything, But yet you were trending on Twitter because some texts were circulating that were not you. I mean, I think it would be kind of a weird moment if you were me. Do you think he has any idea what point? Did someone call him call? What point? Did somebody telegram him? Good point. I mean, here's the thing that I was wondering, I was like, certainly. There someone that knows him that saw this, But I don't know that that person is on a you know, is on a texting basis of them like I wouldn't be surprised if you so out of it, you know, and in his own world that he doesn't even have some when he talks to regularly use on Twitter. Yeah, he doesn't even have I can tell you He's a flip phone doesn't even have a smartphone. And Yeah, it Z one of the things that Orson text message out there purportedly from his wife today, we're totally false. And in some that were reportedly from him. I'm like, Well, I know that one from him because that's an iPhone and he doesn't have an iPhone. So, um, yeah, I found it funny. Now he may ultimately come back. You may have those kinds of discussions, but the text messages that are out there on Twitter that stuff totally false..

Four quarterbacks better, uh, in the championship. Come on. Now. You got a great quarterback. You've got a young quarterback Josh Island. Uh, you got past my home, but we don't know if he's gonna be playing tonight. And you got you got Brady, your boy. Oh, come on, man. We got team C couple TV there. Rodders. Yeah, runs a man and You know, look at those guys. And they all have some things in common. Although their game is the games are totally different, but they have things that they do. Well, they don't They don't get back there and take sacks. They don't throw into coverage. You know, they do a good job of when they get pressure to behave. You just thought in the ground you get. You know, Thor thought out of pounds. They're not going to take A bunch of hits. And you know he's got a loan from that, you know, and That's the thing in the NFL. If you don't learn from that, from from not only your experiences, but other great players, it, man. It's not gonna be. It's not gonna be a long career, man. You're gonna be sitting on the you know, on on the couch watching somebody else play. If you can, if you can't get better, each and every year, So that's why I say it's on him because You know, then the day He's the one out there. Making the calls making the throws, you know, scrambling, deciding if he's going to step into the pocket, or, you know, trying to outrun it from the backside, you know, and deciding if he's gonna try to squeeze it in there. Before people are gonna throw it out of bounds. You know, he's the one making those decisions at the end of the day. So, um, And you're you know, I think he could do it. Really do it. Hey, we'll wait. Feeling that I don't know well, much like a wide receiver coming over the middle against the Denver Broncos and the early to mid to late nineties, fearing For their lives that were Ryan Edwards has been sweating all day because he said he sent over a name of somebody He really liked on tape. And before the show, he won't admit it to you. But he was saying how much he was afraid that Steve was going to verbally murder him for for this player that may or may not be good. I don't know. So Ryan sent over a player. What did you think of that particular player, Steve? Well, uh, early on the guy name is Richie Grant. Um You know? Start the film from the beginning, and you know that women is this guy? Just a guy talking about Uh, listen, tackles, you know, guys running up, you know, he's covering guys. And you know, they're running full speed. These last let it you know, waiting on the, uh, something enforce the most of the time. You guys were running intermediate routes are, you know sort of rock so we didn't get burned. But yeah, he's a good player. Do you think he could be a player who's gonna develop? He's not the first rounder I no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm not. I'm not saying that just much like Steve Atwater, you know, ended Christian Korea's Career. You know, Steve at work comes back and ends Ryan scouting career just just within the jarring hit. Dude. Yeah, I'm so deflated right now. Uh, no, no, he has some skills. He moves well, once he gets going, But sometimes he's a little bit flatfooted, and I don't like that, and he's waiting on guys T o to make their move. You've got to be ready for the guys who runs past him, and that's happened a couple times, but he just reporting it didn't didn't throw the ball to the guy. But, um Yeah. I was surprised you sent that over when I saw something earlier. You know, But as it went on, you started making plays Makesem Isis. He's fearless guys really tackling right, But that's one of the things that jumped out at me is he's kind of a play maker guy, but I know that look, there's certainly and I even told you what I sent the thing I said there's some raw stuff in there and I don't think he's a completed guy by any stretch, and definitely not a first rounder. Think he'd go day two. There's possibility slips today three. But I think he's more of a day to guy. There's another safety. I want you to look at when you get chance. James Wiggins of Cincinnati Another safety that I really like. That's gonna be out Senior Bowl, But these are just these aren't even the top two safeties in this draft. It Z insanely deep safety class. But if the Broncos up to wait until late day two or early day three To get a safety will probably take a look at it. Yeah, but this is kind of in the range of like Michael. Jim Moody I told you about last year. You know, I was telling you about him at the senior boys like, Look, this isn't a dude you're drafting in the first round..
