"I don't know. To me, honestly, my reaction initially when I saw that they were signing Richard Sherman to me showed how desperate Tampa is in their secondary they are so banged up. There's so many injuries in their secondary. However, I will say, even though I am very hesitant to praise this move and say, it's going to be amazing, oh yeah, even though I'm a little bit hesitant, I do also acknowledge that it is a good fit. He's a veteran. He's been around the NFL a ton. And the culture in Tampa, not only because of Tom Brady, but the attitude of Tampa, the way they cater to veterans and they work with their schedules and, hey, if you want to take Wednesday off to keep your body healthy, they're really good about taking care of veteran players and catering their approach to every player individually. And Richard Sherman is not totally useless. He's not the athlete he once was in my opinion. But he's really smart. He still has good technique. It's all like he forgot how to backpedal. It's not like you forgot how to keep a guy in his hip pocket or when a quarterback's about to throw the ball or the little tells. The mental side of the game and everything that Richard Sherman can possibly control, you know he's going to do it to the very best of his ability. And again, I do think that because of Tom Brady, that's a really good environment for a player like Richard Sherman to do well. They're in a position to squeeze the very last good football at a Richard Sherman. And it's a developing story. I am very, very curious to see how Richard Sherman in Tampa will affect that football team. And how good is he going to be? I don't know. I really don't know. But I have an open mind, and it's certainly I think he's going to put his best foot forward now. How good is he really? I don't know, but and I'm not, it would be disingenuous of me to make bold claims that he's going to do this and that who knows..

"Gifted player and then you just gotta put some people around him that are that are strong enough and physical enough to protect them when this is all said and done. The dust settles Draft free agency trae incheon. Because some of these guys are going to get indoor players just to take effect when the dust settles on this. Can this be a top ten roster in the league top five or australia. The i don't know. I mean i you into all these names you spend a bunch of time looking at it now. You don't know the draft picks as well and everything else but do you think when the experts when this all gets done right and walter. Football drafts in puts a great on this on. Let's say top fifteen. I think they could probably top half really good players on this list. It's how you're going to do run francis. I was listening yesterday on wyman bob and they had a great guests on who says. Gm is going to look at this and fight the urge. You're not drafting all star team. That's right you don't wanna come on. Just draft the biggest names in the most talented players. You're assembling a team. Yep it's absolutely true so there are some all stars on here james van rims dykes are really popular. He's really good team eagles. You can't do that. You got to have some muggers you gotta have guys who were grinders guys who are willing to fight guys who are willing to be dirty guys. Who warner energy guys you got to find. All of those things is their staff that they have now higher coach assistance and everything else. They've now put together and put in place before all of this chaos does that give you any indicator of the chicago not enough. I mean it seems like they wanna four check. It seems like they wanna play with some level of speed. But i don't know how physical they necessarily want to be but you can't survive not physical in the nhl. you can't survive with no speed. So like i don't know man i. I think we'll get a chance. Some of that. I think is dependent on on who was going to be available. The list is good. It's not an all star team though. I don't look at what's available out there and say okay all star team. There's really a good mix of everything and by the way if you want to assemble an all star team good luck. You can't make it under the cap. I started playing around with one of these cap things where you like. I've been spending. It's also like how his nfl draft. So i was using the manipulator things. Start drafting a team. And i made like one move. That was sort of way outside. What all of the rose law wall and it basically like instead of you be at eighty one right. I got to eighty four and a half star do it. Essentially the difference was i. Signed one high priced unrestricted free agent. That wasn't that wasn't necessarily you know he's not in the cards for them. I forget who it was. But it was a name that i liked and i was like. Oh might have been not to shane. But i was just like. Oh i want. That didn't work. So so you really gotta be careful. If you are ron francis because you you you can very quickly get. He's got time he's not like it's not gonna accidentally go over the cab but i think that idea of the all star team thing is. I think it's harder to get than you would think just because of the money. These guys are good thing. Sesame and avery aren't around because that's down in the basement working on the cute. I've been completely obsessed with this like it's it's awesome. It's so fun like it's about other soon meeting with clayton going through databases left and right now. Your data price. Yes could you send me up. Template john tershenko do you think. It's too much. If i if i were think i could re-negotiate deal but hockey names the last thing last thing the one the one guy i will say i really want out of this. Draft is jordan abberley. I really want him from the new york islanders if they don't get him the islanders at like a bunch of players. I really really liked but everley would be right near the top of my list. Good top six winger. Who will score for your twenty goals consistent. I love his game so just one player. Just i like this. Is my tyler lockett for you bronco. I just like jordan abberley. And i would really like to see him end up as and you'd be okay if there's not one hop on the team you should take whoever's on that team just get rid of them. They're just. I'm sorry we won't be selecting anybody from montreal. I mean maybe they do. Take them and flip good. I suggested which would be infuriating for a team. I have to make this guy available to the expansion team. They can take them from me and they don't even want him. Yeah they just take him for three. They don't want the players they've left exposed. They don't want you got to remember a lot of the players that are available. They want off their team. They've had to pay them more than they want to this contract. Yes so they want to get rich is.

"And my wife are all gone then. My wife came back. My kids are still gone. There's been golf. There's been warm weather bend. It's been tremendous now. It's over this missing this morning. Last the last sunset down nine pm we find. It'll be fine this afternoon. You training camp is right around the corner. don't start. I love football and you know why he mac tone it down. Why don't you just relax. We'll start fighting back. I don't wanna fight back. I don't want to get to that point. It's to vote okay. Somerset we talked about the richard sherman thing because this you know there are things that happen when you do a weekly podcast where you're like. Gosh i wish i was doing this right now. This is one of those stories with so many tentacles and a angles and everything. I will admit. I'm kind of glad we weren't talking about a day. One before the information came out and we were trying to figure out kind of what was happening because there were you know. Look i understand the you know how important the words domestic violence have been to me. And we've talked about it so much on this show calling this throwing the words domestic violence in here while not necessarily wrong is a little bit misleading. Because at no point. Did richard hit or even really apparently threatened his wife. Four kids right family members. Yeah his his in law's father in law. I mean yeah. There's plenty of information. There's some nine one one calls that have reddening. Leo allegedly said if you come to this house without the kids i will hurt you all right. So there's there's a threat there's not what the charges force that's right and the i'm not. I'm not trying to clear. Richard sherman here of wrongdoing. We're gonna have quite the conversation about kind of where he's at how we feel about them and everything else but it was interesting day one. When the first words you hear our domestic violence burglary it. Sounds very much. And my first thought. And i'm sure the first thought of many people was okay. Richard sherman beat up his wife or beat up his kids. Because that's generally what we think of when we hear that term and i guess it was interesting to me that that was not the case now it turns almost more becomes much more unique. Once you learn all the details of everything that's happened here. You're very initial response. And i think you texted right. I think we had some information and our our news gathering team on the cairo side. Even before i think we we saw this very early. that day you're just initial emotion. I'm trying to remember it now. It's been a while we'll do you remember my initial reaction what was it and you just kinda forwarded the texts in i think those words as you said of knowing you might the way that we've all got no you and and you and i in proximity and closeness in everything for all of these years. Those words domestic violence. They that's a trigger for me for sure. There's no doubt about it. And so when i thought it was that i was pretty upset and assume this is going to be in but as you read through it. I don't want. I don't wanna focus too much on the on the reaction based on on an initial report. Yeah initial reports. Don't necessarily explain the entire the entire story. I guess what i see now is a really tough balance between a sad story about a guy who seems to need help seems to have some level of psychological problems seem to be struggling greatly with dealing with his exit from the league. Which may be impending see really needs help and sympathy and support and needs to be helped again. I'll say it again and at the same time somebody who committed crimes and the crimes. Don't go away because that somebody that needs help. Correct right driving under the influence crashing into into construction sites banging on the door trying to knock it down with your shoulder right threatening to kill yourself if you don't get custody of your kids or control. All of those things are one hundred percent crimes. They don't deserve sympathy so trying to strike that balance. Between how you feel about this guy with where where you want to help and support and where quite frankly. Don't i think is. I think it's the biggest challenge of what makes this thing so well and then you have to add an incredible layer to the makes it even more complex in that. Is we know this guy. This isn't an an. Nfl headline in a different city with another player. This is arguably one of the loudest most brass players that we have ever had community. It's arguable. he is the loudest and most brash player. We've had gary. Payton would argue with that a little bit. Because a lot of time gary with lose gary might be louder on the court but he would lose that argument. I believe off of it. That's probably fair. yeah. I think that's fair that in whatever vein richard was always right. He was also polarizing because the exit was hard. Because you know on tape having him lying calling out things that he's a liar. I mean that's part of it. You can't overlook that part of the story. Richard sherman has what i've referred to as a very casual relationship with the truth is a pathological liar. I mean we we. We caught him in a million of them were yet tape of the exact opposite member when he went on with. At least who was the champion kerry champion feel like. Maybe i should have said what i said. No because nobody ever knew what i said once again sources say no was.

"Home. Security video has emerged showing. Richard sherman attempt to break into his wife's parents house earlier this week. Throwing his body. Into the door shouting expletives to the people on the other side meanwhile a judge ordered the free agent quarterback to be released from jail without bail yesterday following his arrest for the incident citing sherman escort a pillar of the community noting. It was his first arrest. Sherman's next hearing is set for later this afternoon shannon reacting to this video What did you what is your reaction to. All of this means give. I didn't need to see the video because the police reports said he tried to break down the door. So i know what trying to break down the door. It looks like so. I didn't need to see the video sees you see what i read the paper. I hear someone say. It's the person with decapitated. I don't actually need to see the photo overhead. Let's court to know what decapitation mean so. I didn't really need to see the ring video camera to show me that. Richard sherman was trying to game. Because i know what that looks like. But as i said before. Richard sherman has been a pillar a stalwart in seattle community. The football aside the way he's been a great business man the way he's been so active in the community. Sometimes you need your reputation to proceed you in a good manner and in this situation skill you going before a man or woman that know something about you but the real you coming before them today has nothing to do with the reason why they know about you. So you're hoping that dentures good standing your great name. It precedes you. And that's what the judge has businessman been a pillar in this community. He's been he's been a great business man he's been great in the community. Yes we know. He's an outstanding football player. Anything released this man. Hopefully richard gift the help because it seems like he was he was intoxicated. Seemed like he was very agitated and they said before he was going through some things and like i said before. Hopefully richard gives the help that he needs and the road to recovery is right around the corner. I'm not concerned about richardson. Football player right now. Concerns richard sherman. Judge Orders Richard Sherman to Be Released From Jail Without Bail

"Sherman's arrest. This is a total downer right? It's depressing on every level. Just to catch you guys up on the latest things are settling down a little bit in terms of a judge did order that he could be released from jail without bail Thursday. Um, King County District Court Judge Far it's difficult Pacific Islander named Pronounce your Farm Mommy. Mommy must tonight part of me for pronouncing that incorrectly found probable cause that he did commit for offense for offenses. The prosecutors did not ask the judge for a finding on a felony residential burglary allegation porches initially but they have not yet filed Chargers. The charging decision is expected today. His next hearing is set for two o'clock Pacific today. He does not have to be present. One thing that did happen is that his wife made a statement yesterday. Quote I love and support my husband. I am committed to helping Richard get the support and care that he needs. Richard has always been a loving father and husband. We are looking forward to seeing at home, this family. Unfortunately, the video of his door incident went public, and it's all very unseemly and said John Lynch of the 40 Niners told Matt Miyoko that he reached out to the Sherman family to be a resource help. "Be free on bail for sure. Yes but now. To your point he is the vice president of the players association but at thirty three. I think it's fair to say. He's on the downside of his career. He's been a great player. He's got a potential to be a hall of famer. Is that fair to say. I really thought hard about it. But he's got a chance. And yet i thought he had a chance to hook on one more time with one more team. It sounded like the seahawks. Were not interested. Obviously he had been publicly opposed to some extent to the current quarterback of the seattle seahawks. So i'm not sure how that would have played in the locker room. So maybe they were a little hesitant to go there. Now with richard Is it a chance that that kyle would abroad call. Shannon would have brought him back for one more harare last iran san francisco. Maybe and i was already pushing his. You know shannon. I thought he'd be a good fit with my dallas cowboys. Grit and i'm sure they're jokes out there. Now as we speak that he'd be a great fit. Now that he's got some police blotter right because that's what cowboys do. But the point was dan. Quinn was his coach in seattle cowboys. Have a young secondary. And i thought richard could be a player coach. He'd be great in the meetings. And i think he could have helped him to a certain extent on the field. I don't have any idea whether they were ready to go in that direction or not but now all of that is put on hold at the worst possible time for richard because now we have to see what the nfl sorts out is going to be disciplined for any or all of this. I rea- i don't know but it's got potential that he's going to be disciplined right absolutely win. The potential of alcohol is involved in emotions are high. Logic is low. If logic should've said they. Richard should behaved in sometimes. Give you know how it gets. You know when people are trying to talk to you and the potential of alcohol is involved. You're not trying to hear anybody has to say you not logical you not thinking clearly so clearly for me for him to be involved in a situation like this for his wife to call into to a sign of distress that he's threatened to kill himself. There's some things that you know. And that's what a lot of you scale. You hear a lot of these like mental health experts when calls like this come out milton. Health experts needs to be with the police officers because they're not trained to handle people that are suicidal or the the the the caller has said he's threatened to harm himself. So you need to get someone with them. This trained in that field to talk to a richard sherman. Not saying the police shouldn't be involved but the police should not be. The first to engage fit individual. I just hope that thing. I don't worry goal from here. We have a great ending. It could have been worse because we've seen situation where the please stop do this. And and it goes in a terrible terrible derail. Yes fortunately for richard sherman. It did not go in that direction. So hopefully he he gives he gives to go before the judge today..

"This is what teams are going for much more than to give me something else. not widgets. Give me something else. Bomber could have purchased that would have represented this tax break. So another good comparison. Is you know you buy A pharmaceutical company right And there are patents on your drums and those are extremely valuable but they run out right eventually. The patent runs out and a generic company can come in and sort of steal your customers. So the patent actually loses value in that case it makes sense In real world financial terms that you'd be able to write off the pet but see bomber in this case or any sports team owner is able to write off the franchise rights or a media deal and as we know the clippers when their media deal runs out they just typically or any sports team typically gets a new media deal and they're still on tv so it again. It's just pretty much any other type of company you point to. It's not this disconnected from how it actually works in the real world. So you're saying this is the best deal the best deal. A billionaire can make sport. You can also look at real estate right so real estate investors take massive depreciation write offs. And i think you're based in miami on based in los angeles as we know you buy a house or building like that thing is actually not losing value. it's typically skyrocketing in value to the point where it's hard to afford it. So that's another one. You can point at as you know. The write. offs are extremely disconnected. From how it actually works. What changes this the. Us congress And the president no but for real what changes it. What do you mean. Cla robert thank you for being on with us thank you..

"The public offers paying for the military paying for social safety net programs paying for everything the government pays for that the government will not have the money for that money for because of these rights hundreds of millions of dollars. You say but. I'm gonna ask you again if steve balmer through creative accounting in fifteen years or the bomber and the state or anyone else if we're able to look back on all of this and the greatest part of the scam is not only. Did he get a team. We thought he was overspending for at two billion dollars because donald sterling was rewarded for racism. And not only are reports. Now that an expansion franchise goes for two point five billion dollars so he got a bargain. At what i thought was over. Spending a lot of people thought was overspending. But furthermore you business reporter expert. Twenty years from now. Are we going to be saying balmer. Got to have the clippers for free. So it's not a tax credit right. It's a tax deduction so that means that he gets the ultimately locked two billion dollars off his taxable income and not pay tax xs on those two billion dollars so whatever the rate is that percentage of two billion is what he doesn't have to pay for. If you're asking if he's going to ultimately make money be in the net positive when this is all said and done. It's hard to imagine that he won't be because these team of evaluations keeps skyrocketing is getting this massive tax break in like we talked about the assets that he's getting. The write offs for are typically not losing value. It's it's a it's a good deal. General robert i know bombers sort of become the face of this story. But you get into it with how. Dan gilbert's exploited some of these tax loopholes and david tepper who in watching. Cnbc is really respected as one of the great financial minds in the narrative around owners. Is you buy a professional sports teams because their playthings. It's not really a sound investment. You don't get into this business to make money. That's a narrative they sell the fans but david tepper is not gonna make a bad investment. It seems as though what is supposed to be a plaything is actually a really smart way to get around some tax laws and i think your widget comparison articulated that perfectly yet. You know if you look at these tax records of that we've obtained without an understanding of the way The tax code works. You see all these sports teams that have tens hundreds of millions of dollars of losses every year. And you're wondering you know. Is this just the incredibly terrible business that all. These billionaires sort of Financial geniuses are getting involved in. No you realize that it's this amortization play that where they get take these massive massive paper losses losses that exists on paper only That makes it look like these teams are losing huge sums of money when oftentimes they're actually profitable or in the event they actually are losing money. Losing way less money than they're reporting they arts iras. What is the number robert that the audience who has not read the article. The billionaire playbook house sports owners used their teams to avoid millions. Bomber claims credibly and legally that the clippers lose what so over a five year span. Two thousand fourteen to two thousand eighteen. He reported seven hundred million dollars in losses From the clippers stood iras now in the real world. The question is how profitable are the clippers. Every time we've seen glimpses Almost every time they have been profitable in real world terms As recently as two thousand seventeen. Espn obtained a leaked financial report that showed them profitable in real terms There were audited financials. That came out around. The time of the sale showed a couple years profitable in real world terms. We also have donald sterling's taxes. He by the time you know he had exhausted his amortization benefits in his. You know sort of Later years as owner clippers were profitable. So you know Every indication is that by by real world terms. They are profitable if they're not. It's nowhere near a seven hundred million dollars. Can you explain to me outside of sports how it is that. We arrive at amazon last year paying zero dollars in taxes. So that's that's what we're talking about. What sports teams is you know. Pass throughs s corpse and partnerships. And all of that All that tax for it in all those profits pass through directly to the owner with amazon. We're talking about a secord or so totally different tax system for them. You know i. I have not studied that hustling. Can you explain to me when your saying real terms and tax terms. Can you explain to me in the audience. How that happened. How it is that we arrive from real terms. Of course they're making money. They're the clippers to four or five years of seven hundred million dollars in losses. So it's been a long evolution. It started in the early twentieth century. you know With owners trying to take more and more aggressive steps on write-offs ultimately the last sort of chapter in this was two thousand four when congress basically threw their hands up and stopped trying to make sports teams. proved that the assets they were writing off actually had You know definable life spans and basically allowed them to start writing off everything the president who signed up billions laws President george w bush himself was a former sports team owner. It's a big giant scam. Isn't it robert all of it. It's just. I want you to say it. I know you wrote a lot of words and you did reporting and you did responsible journalistic things but when you turned in your article you thought to yourself. This whole thing is just a giant steaming pile of bullshit. I mean like you said. Dan i mean that's it's not my role to sort of opine on this but you know this is what i'm really excited about with this series and this tax data that we've obtained You know you talk to a tax expert about amortization they all know about this concept already A lot of them think in the context of the sports world. It's totally unfair But they all know about it but you know the general public does not know the nitty gritty of these Massive tax benefits. And you know this. Data in series of these stories are allowing people to to sort of assess for themselves whether they think this system spare were the numbers surprising to even you. Yes how much larger wore the brakes than even you thought they would be. I'm an nba fan myself. I'm i'm a basketball fan. I you know. I pay attention to news. Stories about how. These teams are doing financially. Never expected to see the clippers. Losing seven hundred million dollars in tax terms and five years and when you started down the path of the research of this. Did you have in your head some expectation. I know you like to go in open minded and you don't want to you know. Confirm conclusions before the reporting confirms conclusions. But did you have an idea in your head what you might find what you expected to find. It was actually the other way around. You know we were looking at the business holdings of these wealthy people and We were blown away by how huge the paper loss figures were for. Sports teams So is actually the other way it was the it was the sort of a story in a found us. Not the other way around. Balmer is a symbol bomber is more egregious or balmer is just the records that you had and you could probably find it throughout sports. What we we looked at other owners as well. You know the interesting thing is this is the way it works for every team owner especially every team owner the purchase after two thousand four. These are the rules for everyone. Bomber is following the rules as the us congress. road So there is nothing. It's extraordinary because the purchase price is high so the right officer especially high but you look at team valuations these days..

"Didn't even mention him. I was mentioning earl. Thomas having his bad public incident during the pandemic i was. It's it is a sport that will ravage your body and mind and as to guts was saying. We'll do it quickly. We'll do it. Where your life span can get short. Richard sherman has had an unbelievably long career. You've heard the cliche for a long time. Cody of nfl stands for not for long. You can grab your identity in the gladiator sport across a few years and it can be empowering and then you've got your rest of your life to stare at and you've got maybe mental pain and you've got physical and we know enough about cte noun. We've seen enough evidence where any time something like this happens. There's an assumption of a link. i mean you. you just assume that there's something going on up there related to football right or wrong. That's an assumption. Now when you get to this kind of darkness a nine one one call from a panicked wife when you get to. This place is my husband to kill himself. You gotta keep in mind the desperation that you're listening to. I don't think that. Richard sherman under normal circumstances given everything that you've seen happen in this country with black people wants to be inviting the police over to his house. You've reached a level of desperation when you're shouting nine one one operator my husband. I think my husband's a harm to himself here like i. I really don't know whether or not richard sherman was going to harm himself or others but that is how you end up in conservatorship and mental illness and alcoholism in depression all of those things. Where because i don't believe based on what i know of that family again. She represents him. i think she's his agent. She knows what's at stake in cost with their career when she invites the police into their life when she calls him on run right the level of desperation that i it was it was it was me just being may when she calls nine one one the level of desperation. There you're right. I can't imagine knowing what she's inviting it to his and her life and the police right. Yeah and you don't want you don't want this to become public for you as or as a couple so for you to make that call is tells you the level of desperation trying to say nine one one. We got it. Yeah nine oma lift got stuck together. I don't know what happened happens. Tahoe west coast east coast. I hit a shot off champagne bottle. It was inflatable. It cost me a hundred yards of my drive. I mean dispensaries one every block. Jesus christ gumy's there was an earthquake to. I'm all right by the way wife still rattle the bit. Leave early those dispensaries though. Oh my god. The gumy's snuck a few home. I shouldn't say that on the air. You probably shouldn't know sorry. Did i'm not really that story. That i did have one last night. Nine run run starting to make more sense donlevatar earlier in the show. The question was asked. What would you got to do with one invisible dish to god's one day where he could be invisible. We decided that during banking hours. You would choose a week day. He would rob all the banks in the universe from eight to five and then tonight he would alter sporting event results being an invisible man in games he had better these as they don le batard. Show with this guys. Robert federa cheese with us now and propublica is a nonprofit publication that investigates abuses of power. And i'm always telling you around here that the business reporting in sports really stinks. It's terrible with this article. He wrote is legitimately infuriating. So robert joins us now. Thank you for doing so so explain to us or explain to the audience in layman's terms. If you would. What is happening here. Because i was surprised to read that balmer is paying a tax rate of twelve percent while lebron is paying a tax rate of thirty six percent. I thought lebron would also have the creative accountant so You know neither of them is violating the law. They're actually both following the law. You know just as it was written by congress The difference is that the tax code favors people who own assets over people who essentially work for a living And so the. The most significant point in that disparity i think is not just Is bomber paying a lower rate than lebron. James in embalmer makes a lot more money than lebron james. He's also paying a lower rate than Adelaide allah who is a concession stand worker at staples center and makes about forty five thousand dollars a year including her second job at uber. So i think that's the more interesting point here. Because bomber makes about fifteen thousand times more than she does and still pays the lower. Explain to us how it happens okay. The the piece is called the billionaire. Playbook how sports owners used their teams to avoid millions in taxes. steve bomber. Did he by the clippers for two billion dollars because it's just spillage to him that he can write off all of it. Yes so. I mean. I'm not in his head but the tax advantages are massive key is able to write off almost entire two billion dollar purchase fries and the reason that is is the original theory. Was that the assets that compose the clippers are losing value over time. So we're talking the tv deal but Player contracts the franchise rights You know sort of similar to the way it's thought that like you know Parts in a factory lose value But the difference is in a factory. They do lose value in a sports team. As we know these things automatically regenerate and typically grow in value nonetheless. He's able to write them off as if you know their value becomes zero and it's law if you had to guess why it is that all the rich people want to get into sports. The primary reason is it love of sports. Is it that sports teams. Don't appreciate in value or is it this the thing that you're writing about. Gosh i mean that's tough you know If you're talking about steve bomber. And you know it's clear that he genuinely loves basketball but if you look at his quotes around the time he bought the team He was certainly talking about the financial motivation as well. And if you look at you know. Sort of quotes from owners. Historically they've certainly cited the tax advantages. What is it about the balmer scenario specifically that the audience would be most appalled by. Do you have anything in your reporting. That is more appalling than the idea that you could just tucked away all of your sports team joy in losses and ended up with a twelve percent tax rate. Because you arrived at a place in wealth that makes it that kind of galling disproportionate. What the difference is between you and the people work for you. So i mean one of the one of the things that defenders of this tax treatment say is look he gets to write off the whole two billion dollars But if he sells the team he has to pay it back but even if he sells the team in that instance he's getting an interest free loan over years decades from you and me The federal taxpayer and he can use that money To massively increase as well now if he dies or if any owner dies while holding the team as many do and the team goes to an air those taxes never have to be repaved and the air can restart this clock of writing off huge losses..

"If there's any inner frailty to richard sherman or anyone else These things happen you know. They're behind closed doors. They happen because we hear the police report or see the nine or nine one one call you know. I have great sympathy for anyone including professional athletes. Who are going through stuff like that about a month ago on this show. We aired an interview with josh norman. That wasn't very good. And to god's in some ways to me was enormously disappointing because i remember the specifics of how josh norman came into our life where he's in carolina. He says things he's free. He's unafraid the the team is trying to change him. Ron rivera is saying you need to tone all this stuff down. He says. I'm not as good a player by tone. All this stuff down and josh norman was so fresh that i'm like i remember you remember right. We're doing radio after game and we're like whoa football players. Don't just come on the radio and do this not rehearse and then. I'm talking to josh norman. At the end of his career as he's a free agent and it was not the same dude. The system had changed him and then as soon as we stopped taping broke it a little not broken himself again. Not doing the rehearsed thing of. I'm auditioning for my next employer Just all of a sudden himself again and almost apologizing for what it is that we just didn't because somewhere within the pipeline over ten years he realized yes at the fast as everyone else. And i'm i could say whatever. I want at the height of confidence and i could be the guy and then the system breaks slowly and slowly and slowly and then all of a sudden at the end of my career. When i'm not that fast. And the last you remember derrick henry steph farming me and i gotta get another job. I got to be the person who's out here publicly talking about things the right way. I can't be myself anymore. I'd like to be employed next year. There's another young cornerback. Whose twenty two. Who doesn't come in talking. A lot might be a little faster than me. i need. I need to be a different person in public. It's not honest bright. That's just the person who's auditioning for his next job by doing the job interview here on the radio as opposed to doing the job interview when he gets with the team. That's sport above all other sports. I believe it's just so cruel where it goes so quickly. It happened so quickly like baseball basketball. You have time you could plan a little bit. You don his hassles but sitting on the bench for the last seven years football. When it's done it goes. It goes quickly and sometimes guys just don't have time to plan what's next for. That's interesting because i can very much imagined that josh norman is acutely aware that at some point he has to go from being the diva loud cornerback with all the skills. To being the savvy veteran. Who's going to be the great teammate. The nurturer it bum mail so much to talk to him. Because i remember when we were done with him the first time as he's coming in we're like please don't change. Please don't change and the interview we did was with someone who is being really careful and i was like Richard sherman throughout his career has been himself like he has been while his situation has. I don't think maybe he's. That's the guy right. I think the guy we got right after the game is josh. Norman correct but i think his situation has changed where he has to act different. I mean at that point in your career. They bring you in for a locker room presence. And you can't necessarily distraction that you were once in your mid twenties s josh norman. You have to come in and be like leader. Guy richard sherman. They denied him bail. I don't know rights because we've talked. We've had a lot of fun. We made fun of guys like when is the synthetic we'd when this behavior is so out of character that you've got some athlete doing some weird thing to avoid drug testing but now you don't have to do synthetic we'd anymore the details on vis. I don't believe this story caught. Because richard sherman is super famous. I believe this story because this could happen. Any number of cornerbacks and we'd be the story it is today is because richard sherman is a symbol for something. Richard sherman at the center of that defense found his voice an adult voice strong and black and proud. And that defense went against russell wilson because there was a company. Man feel in the reporting between russell wilson and that defense russell wilson. Still there in charge of that team. The defense is splintered. They won the championship because russell wilson was cheap and they could pay for that defense but dan at that position. It's nearly impossible to become a household name. He did richard. Sherman get dion sanders. Did he was the face of one of the greatest defenses of all time and voice. Yes yeah importantly and now you see what you got yesterday. And i wonder how much of that gets erased because you get the honest look into four minutes of despair. You get an uncomfortable. Look into the deepest of the privacy's a his wife represents him she. That is a strong couple. And you're listening to a nine one one call. And i don't know about you guys but i was like whoa hanging himself. Where where are you in. The mine goes to so many places. C. t. drinking and pain relief. And and did you see the reported details on the amount of liquor being one bottle of vodka. One bottle of hennessy g. So what's happening there. We we got insight into what is someone's deepest darkest public moment and i don't know if it's necessarily fair to richard sir Sherman to draw the conclusions. We are now. Because what. You're you're not afforded the opportunity to look into my own personal deepest darkest moment and i'm so grateful for that because we're here talking about richard sherman twenty five minutes like we know him and we just know what we've seen. It is uncomfortable to hear nine one one call like that. You feel like a voyeur. You're hearing something that is so intensely personal and private that it shouldn't be out there. I mean i recognize richard. Sherman is a celebrity in a public person but still can't that be private. It's not. It's not so uncomfortable that we don't most of us listen to it right till the end. It got it lent to the magnitude of the situation. Though right what was going on. I mean it did like if you just read it without without hearing that call. I don't know if you know. Just how drastic or dire. His situation himself. Yeah hung hang. Talking about. Hanging himself is something that is going to get your attention. This is just a handful of the guys from that defense. But and michael bennett and richard. Sherman have now had really uncomfortable public moment. And i don't know what playing defense that way does to the body and mind. We have ideas right defense. a general. we'll just play football general but again that by the standards of the violence in that sport. That defense was a menace. Yes brandon browner. Who is the cornerback. Opposite of richard sherman for a lot of the legion of booms. Run is presently serving eight years for tempted murder..

"And billy have some shower content some important shower content that we will get into in a second because it is being alleged around here that chris. Cody is playing a dangerous game when it comes to showering another dangerous game is being played by aaron rodgers. Adam schefter and aaron rodgers. The story around him. He was talking to chris collins where they had an interesting back and forth where collins worth was just saying. If i'm the packers i tell them go ahead. Retire retire retire. I'm not trading. You even though wouldn't help the team. Any and schefter was making the argument on behalf of rodgers and one of the things that he said is aaron. Rodgers needs to get some more mud on this as way of advice and i would argue that. No he doesn't need to get more mud on this so that we could feed for content for days on this. He can handle this the way that he pleases. Just like adam. Schefter handled it the way he pleased by putting the mud on the hands of aaron rodgers. The day of the draft. Aaron rodgers has sat this out publicly. He's not putting any mud on it and we just feed on the mud. If he gave us it it would just make us content for days. But one of the things that i wanted to talk about before we get to the shower. Content is what it is. That's happened with richard sherman. If you've seen what's on the news in jail felony no bail one one call. His wife sounded really scared. It was horrifying talking about hanging himself. Apparently according to the report drinking way too much maybe a hit and run situation. We don't know how much damage was done there. But the nine one one call was a panicked wife talking about her husband in a way that she said was behaving out of character but was a dark. Glimpse into the life of richard sherman. And the thing that i wanted to talk to you guys about. Because i'm willing to wait for more information on this but richard. Sherman is a symbol now. Richard sherman has been one of the guys for a long time in that league who has been a leader on defense. That was super strong for the seattle. Seahawks turned himself into superstar in sport where the bodies are disposable. It's hard for a position player that you know cornerback to be a famous dude. He did it with his voice and his excellent. both of them combine. Not just that a compton resident that went to stamford better on himself. Numerous times throughout his pro career and really an inspirational story. I don't want to make extrapolations. Because i don't know what's going on in his life but the thing that made me think of is sometimes the guy that i think is best equipped for whatever the end of his career. Looks like whether. It's robert smith ricky williams or john amaechi guys that i think shane batty. A bright are super equipped to handle whatever happens right toward the end of your identity. Dying transition will be smooth for them. You think it's going. It's going to be smooth for any athlete. I'm just telling you there are certain guys. I think are better equipped for it than others. Or i thought i should say. I've thought are better equipped for it than others. But robert smith was throwing up in a bucket next to his bed drinking alcohol all morning because of the loss of structures of free agent. I don't actually wanna make extrapolations. I don't know what's going on in his life. But the only thing i wanted to talk to you about is i wonder sometimes if the smartest of the guys might actually be less equipped because they keep looking in the places as opposed to the guys who aren't looking in the places and ignorance is bliss. I've told you the story before of billy. Beane five star athlete first round pick sitting in the dugout thinking things so much while lenny. Dykstra sits next to him just bound. You know pounding a bat on the dugout floor. Billy beane knows. He's about to face steve carlton lenny. Dykstra doesn't and it's easier to be lenny dykstra and not think about these things. But later in life billy being becomes an executive and lenny dykstra becomes lenny. Dykstra i don't know what's going on in richard sherman's life neither do you. But i found interesting that this guy is one of the symbols for against all odds coming out and being a smart and distinct voice and a confident voice. And i'm listening to a nine one one call about how he's thinking about hanging himself and his wife sounds totally panicked and it was startling to hear and again it's not i'm not saying that there's a link there. I'm just saying that. I wonder always with athletes. How hard it looks at the end for you when you see your career mortality and you begin grieving in the of more information. Because you're right. He does appear to be one of those guys who did appear to be one of those guys where he had it figured out kind of posts career figured out. I'm not saying he wouldn't suffer it all losing his identity all that stuff. It's just a free agent. By the way i mean he's the vp of the players association. I i'm with you. Dan i thought he had like all of this. Figured out would be one of the guys with the transition would be a bit easier but it speaks to just how little we know about. What's going on in these guys. Lives and how they're feeling towards the end of their careers to honest glimpse into what might be going on there. Because i had my reservations for even listening to it. Because i kind of felt like that was a real invasion of a privacy. My takeaway was the nine one one dispatch officer. Because you said i thought richard sherman's wife was quite calm not panic given the circumstances and holy shit. That dispatch operator was really infuriating. Not helping not helping matters. Being being super rude of a woman is watching her husband. And you know look man. It can be anything it could be could just be drinking. It could be a mental break. It can be a psychotic break. If you're a really bad day to it could be any number of things and now it becomes like this is such a difficult thing right because he has got a target on him. He is a loud. And this where you're listening to. This glimpse into his life is so dark. That when you get to the despair of your wife yelling about talking about hanging himself. I don't believe no matter how cursory our glances can be at these guys no matter what the packaging and mythology. Liz ation is. I don't believe any of us. Had richard sherman's life being in that place even by accident. Even alcohol fueled even depression fueled and it just goes to show you again and again that you don't actually know much of anything because hang yourself stu gods like that guy gives off a pretty extraordinary confidence about just where he is in life right. I had a hard time imagining what actually happened. He didn't hang himself. But i had a hard time imagining richard sherman putting himself in that situation in the first place. Don't know you don't know you don't know somebody's family situation is you. Don't know how many complications there are. we just don't know much of anything. Glimpse doesn't get you to see more of those details. It just becomes more confused. We know what's going on professionally which is a free agent. Probably staring down the barrel of his career possibly coming to an end so we can make all sorts of assumptions. Maybe that's a contributing factor which is also unfair. I think the fans underestimate what you've just said that you know when you're the Agent cornerback who is unsigned facing your identity. Sort of running away from you. It adds to whatever stress you may have internally. We learned this lesson with naomi. Osaka in women's tennis Mental health issues are invisible You don't know them until they're spoken about..

"Situation by definition. I've called nine one one emergency situations. My daughter was having an allergic reaction. I picked up the phone down. Nine one one. I promise you. It is not something. I wanted broadcasted on the national media or anywhere local media. Either like i. I just i really do not like that. Those things become public. And i hate that Shows us them. And i followed the other way Are some idiots out. They're going to hear the nine one. One call and make unilateral judgments based off. that are used them in a nefarious way. Yeah you're always going have idiots out there but for most people what it does is it. Provides the context of what people were thinking in the moment. What were the actual issues. In the moment because you can't always get that from the police reports and from the polices side of things which a lot of times you only hear the police aside on cases like so it's going to be skewed. That is always a window into what's actually happening in that moment in the fears and dangers. And what the person's actually doing and that's why. I do think that there are very valuable to be broadcasted because one eight is something like this. You know some people might fall in line that this is a private matter. It's not it's just not this is not. It is to a certain extent but in terms of what he did and what he didn't do and the kind of basics of what happened. You know you don't necessarily need all the details but the basics of what happened. That's not a private matter. But i think that we we've gotten those we've gotten those from the police and i think it's on us as broadcasters to listen to the nine one one call and then inform the audience of the information that they need to know from that call like. Obviously we're talking about it right now and. I think that there was information that call that we learned. We learned that he was having thoughts of suicide. That was something that you know. Obviously the police have no idea about that. The only way we could have found that out. It's through the nine one one call and that's worth talking about worth bringing up but i think there's a difference between that and actually playing the call to me. It just always rubbed me the wrong way. And i can understand your point of view. I don't it's a little bit of a grey area. I do think that the twenty four hours a day news cycle the news. Networks in the cnn fox news msnbc's they do fall prey to sensationalism. And they have twenty four hours a day that they gotta fill in a way that will keep people watching and that has led in. I don't think any uncertain terms to the reputation of what has happened to journalism. Overall journalism is no longer respected. It's no longer seen as if you're a journalist you're telling the truth and that's because the twenty four hours news cycle and those news networks have changed things and their entertainment channels in reality and yet when it comes to big profile cases that make the twenty four hour news cycle. They do misuse the nine one. One calls i believe they chop them up. That's part of my problem is when they chop them up to kind of cherry. Pick certain moments to make it seem a certain way and make it more sensationalized so i i can get that point of view but i do think that the nine one one calls can be used correctly when they're broadcast. What other information did we learn from that nine. One one call that stuck out to you. Well i mean my reaction to the nine one one call is the the suicidal thoughts is one concerning Because it shows okay. He's having some mental issues right now But that's also why. I connect the dots. To in my opinion. He was reacting to the fact that he just did something that he knew could very well in his career. Forever changes as reputation. And that to me you know. I'm not saying it definitely is just seems like at this point. That might be why he was suicidal reacting to what he knew was coming but it also brings the question as to if he was suicidal. Why did his family not let him in. You know what i mean like. They were not letting them and they were keeping them out of the house was just because they didn't want him to come in and get a knife or something like that like it just to me. You know what what's normal family reacted like to me. They opened the door and they run out and try to help. So i it seems a little odd a reaction to me. It makes me wonder if there's something else there as to why like real legitimate reason why they weren't letting him in the house but my other reaction to that nine one one call and i feel like it needs to be said is that dispatcher has no business being a dispatcher. I kinda had the same thought. Yes she was combative. She was arguing shoes telling her. You need to calm down and tell me what happened. Tell like interrupting sherman's wife from talking ladies shut up and just take the info and call them. She had to tell her repeatedly. I just need the police called and lady was saying well. Yeah but i need to know what's happening. Don't call the police and then find out the details. Get the police on their way. Think at the details. That dispatcher is does not have the right mindset for that job. I had an issue with the dispatcher. To look i. it's it's got to be one of the toughest jobs in the entire world but clearly the whenever someone calls nine one one the person on the other end the line is gonna be upset. Like you have to be able to deal with that and and you're right. I thought that she was cutting off. richard sherman's wife. Ashley a like to the point where she could barely relay the information. You know like so i. The call starts. And sherman's wife ashley moss is. She's very upset and the dispatcher. Stop sir and says. Tell me the address. Which i agreed with because it's like i need to know where to send the police. But then after that like she never lets her even explain what is happening. I thought it was a very often. I don't hear a lot of nine one one calls but it seemed like that's not normally the way it should go. Yeah we can leave it at that. The dispatcher did not seem to be doing her job correctly. She was like we said she wasn't really wanting to get the info she was constantly going wave. What but i did have one other reaction to nine one one call i purposely saved for last and it's just did. It's the sad reality of our society. That i don't know if you picked up on it. I'm sure you did. But she literally was saying are actually literally said at one point. We just don't want him to up shot..

"Absolutely tanked will so guys with this cash. I'm still got the richard sherman calling my mind and for for a day that wasn't supposed to be Well it's wednesday after the all star game there's a ton going on as there always is and there's a lot to talk about in the texans. Thank you for picking the right time to do this. So well we got fodder to talk about i when i first read it. I the first thing that hit me as a person who does not go to. Nfl games in person. Unless i have to work it in the years past we discuss. I just prefer watching it on. Tv i've got. They'll all go. Yeah i like the instant replay. And i liked to have the ability to well. Switch the channel. If it's a bad game. But we may see a lot of those this year. But i just like i said from my view i love to watch them all but i prefer to do it from home. I don't go to games press box fan in person. I said i've been to three in the last twenty years and pre that after my player fifteen years predate after my playing career And then at espn. I didn't have when i had to cover games for them. It was different but since just as a fan going you can count on one hand. How many. I've been to matter of fact and take two fingers away in. That'll be about it for me. But so i don't really the the inner workings i preferred on tv. And so i. I saw this guys i was. I thought okay that they're allowed to do this. And maybe it's a great maybe season ticket holders are like. Yeah this should. We should get the first. You know the right of first refusal on meaning that we should get an opportunity to go first because well. We're spending more money. I think season-ticket rollers in the past. Did get some sort of like a certain allotment of them were designated and and you know what or they get a special area where they there were suspend writer for season ticket holders. That was covered everything. And and and you know what okay with that you spend a lot of money. It's like anything else if you wanna buy first-class stick it on a plate and got paid more okay. I don't have a problem with. That is but i do have a problem with alienating would quite frankly i know season ticket holders could be a really big party fan base especially out of a covid situation. Haven't how money he's been a scarce for some who still love football so then i started to switch it. I said okay. Texans are allowed to say to. They can set there and send a loud message if you're not a season ticket holder and support us. You don't get to watch his practice from in person. Sorry and then. I thought well wait a second now and i did. I looked at both sides. But trying to be fair to the texans in the fans and then the season ticket holder who is somebody who may not even be able to afford them but loves it so much that they buy two season tickets and then they have to watch every time they spend during the fall or during the year and they have to really budget their money which is very real for people in every city. I get that too so it is people do work awful hard to keep these and there hasn't been a lotta reason. I hate to say it over. The last will go since the beginning of last year. And maybe at times and pass some people. Because there's no super bowls here think well even leave one divisions at you know what i'm not into this there's no reason to Be in this or spend this kind of money. But they've given you know. When watson notes quarterback starting every day and the winning divisions i give people want to buy you go there and they love football but as i was going through both sides of this text aside and then i stopped and said wait a second. So you're telling me that it's okay to sing aloud message that unless you're willing to pay for season tickets even if you don't have it you don't get the reward of the dad bringing his kid or a mom bringing her daughter. Are those two or two buddies. Come to to to watch a practice and that may be the closest they get all year to go into a game. That was for me as a ever. Get to a game. Until i told you that story like i've won the season ticket out in that raffle but other than that. I was never going to go to games. I didn't go to game the first season i went to games. Was that season. I think the third or fourth year of the team like that was how i got close to the texans. Let's go to the free training camps every year. We go every year and so they've been going all the pr nightmare with all the stuff that they've had to deal with and then the last just minimum the last year let alone the other stuff about who. You're going to hire bill. O'brien here and hopkins get traded. All those things in between there some mostly football related that we disagree with or a loss in the playoffs to the kansas city chiefs at frustrate people. But i did. I was in my mind favorable sides. And i thought okay. Well what's the big deal. Who the hell cares. If they're not going to practice. And i thought well a lotta pictures because maybe because i don't care about a season ticket or go to one game others fight and others do. It's just such a bad optic right even if you don't wanna go and so as i started to read it more and think about it. You know ponder it. I thought you're sending a very very poor loud message to houston. Texans fan base. And i sent you're visualizing them going down the list. Will this season ticket holder. They can come put this this. This one's not but they an avid fan. That he's can't afford it will they. Can't come and going down like. Tsa checklist of nope didn't pay that much money. You can't bring your twelve year old. You can't bring your eight year. Old son or daughter took to practice. You can't come because what you're not willing to dig into your wallet and go broke because your job is paycheck to paycheck. And you can't afford to be there you know and it's wrong. It's a bad look. It feels like you have to meet their screening processes like you said the tsa type of stuff like to meet their screening process of. It's like they're almost keeping people out from it. Becoming a scene of getting booed out there at their own damn practice desert feel. No question isn't and and they can control that too because if you're a season ticket holder and you get to go to practice now you're feeling even extra special and it'll all be hanging around holding hands singing songs and watch and practice because we gotcha know under our thumb. It's i want to continue to discuss this guys. It's just it's a bad. Look for a franchise that not only needs every fan and every dollar but season ticket dollars should be only dollar in the stadium because the majority your fans art season ticket holders. I think i'm assuming right unless i'm crazy. Nowadays is is our forty thousand people in that stadium season ticket holders right. I i think realistically it's more. I think it's like really. I think it's like fit. Is it really yeah. Are we to the point now. Where guys in order to get the seat that people fifty or sixty percent of the fancier buying season tickets how. This is working many season today. Okay then now. Let me ask you this. What are you gonna to tell me if you get a day when it's overloaded and so many wanna come. I know you probably have to pre do it but somebody wanna come. Do you say well. This person spent seventy grand. This person has a sweet and this person well. They only bought a many season ticket package. They still can't come. We don't have enough room on the field for them that day. There's only what five practices they can go to right. Did i read at five. Okay so what if you want to go and so what. What's the pecking order there now little more privileged because well this person spent sixty grand. We gotta let that one right but this person didn't spend as much. So how do you break it down to that words. Like okay now. This season ticket holder is there. A pecking order in the season ticket holder order. We'll come back and discuss and the pr. I think it's probably a fairly decent nightmare there guys when you get to. I just don't think this this flies with most fans and i can't believe there's that many season ticket holders anywhere but there is people. Spend a lot of money on sportsman. We'll come back sports. Talk seven ninety. A lot to discuss. Including the richard sherman. Nine one one call. That'll make you wonder what.

"When i first heard the news i was absolutely floored because not that we truly know any of these players. But y- richard sherman was like the last person i would think that was going to be involved in something like that and it just blew me away like i was completely floored. I mean when you talk to richard sherman or will you hear him speak. He seems very just very intelligent. Very together very Like an elder statesman of the nfl kind of uncle sherm. Yeah that's what they that's what the forty niners players called him so this just totally blew me away. We just kept getting more and more details as the news. Sorta came in on wednesday. And it's just it's just sad. It's a sad state of affairs. Yeah and like you said the mental disorder site of kinda that throws it into a whole different direction in terms of you know. I don't i don't want to speculate on what it could be. You know there's a lot of things there. I don't like to speculate on what somebody's mental disorder is. And we i would say that's probably the least likely f- Part of this that we are likely to learn. Because you know that's a personal thing that honestly is none of our business. What his mental issues are right. Now whether it's a mental disorder or not So i'm not gonna speculate on what it is even though i want to. I'm just not going to let myself go there. But i certainly hope it's something that he's going to get the help he needs for. And even if that was the cause of all of this to me. They're still no excuses. You know lake. Don't drink and drive if you if you're having mental issues. Get the help you need. And he's smart enough to do that. Which is part of. What's so shocking is that you know he's that i i wouldn't be shocked to see him in therapy. You know. i think he's somebody that's smart enough Progressive enough to not be stuck in the old ways of. I don't talk to anybody. And i think that's part of why. It's so surprising because he seemed to be somebody that was not only smart but new himself really really well. It's when it comes to mental health. It's you know there's stigma. There's a lot of stigma they're still on are just want to say by the way if you or anybody that you know is having any kind of mental health issues..

"And with me as always as levin black what's up eleven not a whole lot. We're getting towards the end of the offseason. We are getting towards the end of the off season. In fact we only have one more show after this one before the start of training camp. So we you know we. We pretty much made it. Which is fantastic for some actual news. Which ironically this episode we have some actual like it matters. News rather than just speculative. Oh who's gonna start who's not gonna start type stuff. So yes we have actual serious news talk about which we are going to cover involving richard sherman and then after we take a break. We'll get to the stupid off season news that we generally have to talk about involving trae lance and what he was wearing a and a tweet from. Pf that excluded a famous forty niner. That got you all fired up but we have to start today with the serious news. I usually you know. Tell you the episode number. We talk about the fa- famous forty niner. That wore that number. I didn't wanna do any of that today. Because there was a serious story on wednesday involving richard sherman Basically if you don't know the news he was involved in. He was allegedly evolved in a hit and run car accident. He didn't hit any people of but he did smash his car into a barricade through a close construction site. And then according to police left the vehicle after it was basically undrivable. They said that one of the front tires was pretty much hanging off of this thing He fled to his in laws house where he tried to break into the home and they call nine one one. The cops came a day. Said they were going to arrest him. He resisted arrest and eventually they had to call in a canine unit. They finally got him Under control he was taken to a hospital all minor injuries and He was in jail. And i believe as of this recording still in jail. He's been charged with multiple things including domestic burglary domestic violence. Which i don't wanna make light of it but he didn't assault anybody but because he was breaking into the home of his in-laws that makes it a burglary domestic violence as opposed to just a burglary charge. Anyway there's a whole bunch of things that he's Charges that he's facing but in rapport added a little context to the story when he reported that sherman has been having mental health issues for a while and His friends have actually flown out to see him to try and help him. So this is obviously an ongoing story. Know there's a lot to respond to their eleven. But i wanted to sort of set the stage for anyone. That didn't know what happened on wednesday. Yeah this is kind of a crazy story because it's not just a straight up you know. Did he do what he's accused of or did he not. There are tons of layers to it. Some aren't as big of a deal as others. Some were only slightly a big deal and some are huge deals depending on if you did it or not you know. It's it's a story that has probably like eight or nine different sub stories within it that are gonna end up getting played out and probably become mostly publicly known over the next week or two If not longer but it's it's one that's hard to react to in my opinion because like i you hear domestic violence so you thought you know okay. You know that that's done and over with. I'm not having anything to do with sherman. I don't have anything to do with somebody like that. But then comes out that no. He didn't actually do anything physical to anybody. It's just how the law's written it's called that even though he didn't do anything but then there's the other parts of it like it is widely believed. He was drinking and driving at this point. It's not confirmed yet but It was mentioned in the nine one one call by his wife and it's what the police believed in they. I believe they have now actually charged him with dui So that in and of itself is kind of like. I tweeted about like if i can afford an uber if i go out drinking sure as hell can afford one is richard sherman or any. Nfl player. there's no excuses. It is the dumbest possible thing you can do. Because it completely destroys your career and your rep and a. That's the other part of this. Is why was sherman. Going crazy at his in laws. And i think that's part of it is that he's had this top-flight reputation you know. He's high up in the players union he is. He negotiated his own. Contracts is seen as one of the smartest players in the league and a leader of the players. And this kind of ins a lot of that. And i think that in the realization that he's a free agent and this could end his career just on the outside looking in at what we know. Now i think that's why he was freaking out so bad is that he knew the ramifications that this is going to be right you mentioned his position with the union. He's a vice president on the nfl player's associations committee. And we don't know everything obviously right. Now there's still a lot to find out clearly. He was having some sort of mental health crisis now whether that came from possibly facing the end of his career we have no idea but clearly he was in some sort of mental distress And that doesn't excuse the driving drunk if he wasn't d. Drunk or anything like that but there's so much of this story to unpack You know. I don't know how to feel about this. Like you said if it was like a strictly a domestic violence thing we that has happened a lot in the nfl and and it's not very difficult to decide how you feel about that type of thing but when you get into All the mental health side of things. And how that plays into it it. There's a lot. I wanna find out here because when i first heard the news i was absolutely floored because not that we truly know any of these players. But y- richard sherman.

NFL WEEK 3: Our official predictions for who wins this weekend

"So. I gave talk about. Obviously a game that still sits our my mind from last week. The Atlanta Falcons go our land Alcan's play. The Chicago bears this week. Chicago was to know the Falcons are all into one o'clock on Fox. Obviously, the Falcons. About that the shambles, the the. Disgusting performance that we saw last week losing a game that they should've never lost Dallas cowboys now going to Chicago bears team defensively is still one of the better teams in the NFL. Immature bisky while not playing. Ultra, great. Still playing well enough for them to win. If, you look at this game, you would think the Falcons will win because one of the Falcons do have going for them as they do have one of the better offenses in felt even to the two weeks you've seen that. And they're going to a bears team that. Can Be, offered to challenge America can be limited. So the Falcons you put up points. The game should be over now the falcons defense does have some questions, but I do think they would put voices should be enough to create distance in the bears it'd be able to pick up the whip. Obviously the bears are companies just gave a lot of confidence. As they should. To An older, start the season I mean. I saw some Falcon fans tweet about it. They don't necessarily want the T. Blues remember they're only to the of this dot over by any stretch. But people really what? Dad Queen Gone. And so. It's Cadillac Party. Wants. To lose. The ship but the Chicago bears going to three eight. Oh probably be one of the young shockers of this early season. I'm going to very hastily picked the Falcons to win this game. I think they they are the better team. Now whether they actually leads to the results on Sunday we'll see but I'm going to go the Falcons to win this game as they are the better team to me. I, Think Matt Ryan will continue his great start to the season. I think are often will continue to click. There are questions of Julio. Jones will play this Sunday I. Think he will. He usually plays to injuries when his Julio not move something now he did. Have a setback in practice but. You know I think. He should be able to go. and honestly, if he didn't would be great for my fantasy team either but I got kindergarten if I need to step up or racial gauge. So yeah. But yeah with the Falcons. Next game forty niners, giants, I've this Games interesting. Remember last week. The point is playing metlife stadium loss Garoppolo MOATS are. Bosa, Thomas they lost a lot of guys last week. And the. Giants team who? Looks like they'll probably be at the bottom of the barrel the NFC east. Especially after losing saquon Barkley. For? The. season. When I players were scared to play at metlife stadium because they felt like the the stadium turf in and everything was the reason for a lot of those injuries that they had last week when they played the jets. Now. I it's. It's interesting to see what it's GONNA be 'cause they're playing a backup quarterback backup running backs they got sued offensive Lineman. I still don't have Richard Sherman. You have a lot of injuries. and. So this may be a winnable game for the giants I mean, you don't really know what to expect from the forty niners this week. So it'd be you say here they of Jimmy, Garoppolo at least played to me I. Think you would be like, okay for eight hours I think we'd still be able to win, but we don't know how good the Ford back for Norwich backup QB may play. I mean, luckily, the void ours have a lot of defensive talent still. So it's not like older pleaded they have nobody but. It. Isn't as comfortable as A. But I would still in my right mind, go with the four years to win the game.

"He's. Grows I'm David Jacoby. We are Jalen and Jacoby. What is it that we do we do? Well Richard Sherman Want Jerry. Jones to say something here is what one of our favorite athletes had declared out matters and the following quote. It's not polling, and if owners like, it is the rest of the country because I if it was and they'd speak Jerry. Jones especially has no problem speaking up on any other time about anything else. Such a serious issue, he can really make a huge impact on it. With a few words is violence speaks volumes. It's Sherman said. There's this Bryant has Jerry Jones. Wouldn't you think about Jerry Jones to silence? White silence is violence, and I appreciate register doing a distinction it particular for Jerry Jones, because he is loud on all things football, he is very loud on all these collective bargaining, but he's extremely quiet when it's time to talk about black lives matter. I can't breathe this taking place. Not only in the country in particular in Texas were George Floyd was born and raised, and so here's what I propose for the NFL owners. Do, a video to way to players did. All of the owners in there and tell us why black lives matter to you. If they don't do that NBA players if they're not doing that, NFL players. That's something for you to now consider I think this is an opportunity for both leagues. To start that transparecy is see if it creates domino effect throughout the other professional sport. I love this idea of yards of the owners touring video like the players did sort of making a statement through a collective statement with all their phases, because one thing that is striking in all these leaks is how different the faces of the owners look versus the fades of the players that they can be very important for them to make that statement now. One of the original statements against police brutality and four equality was made icon. Capital wasn't true. Statement was just taking any before games. We all know what happened a constant his career. There are a lot of voices calling for Colin Kaepernick. Who get back in the league that includes Malcolm Jenkins Matt Ryan says he deserves an opportunity and also Steve Kerr cabinet. Himself says he is more motivated to play now than ever Jalen. Decide con Catholic with a team training camp this season. I see him back in the league. Because he was never out of the League, based on performance, it was out of the League based on the fact that he was a guest police brutality against black and Brown people, and chose the protest silently at his job, and therefore got white ball from the League, and so now that the movement has gone mainstream. People are now all of a sudden, not necessarily losing endorsements and appearances it corporations won't be shying away from the way they used to people being spoken about oppression and racism in this country. And if people forget pecan cabinet member the all the drama around that workout that he had with supposed to be at this place. At this time, there was going to be on Saturday. Teams could make it. Seems like such an odd saga. That wasn't truly a an attempt for people to evaluate how good he is it playing the quarterback position. I think he needs to go to a training camp and plays way on like it's not even that much at stake if your team, why not take a shot Weeden see what he can do when he is on the field and even in his last game as a quarterback, he played pretty well. I think he needs to be. Be The training camp this year. I'm shocked that he hasn't even been committed to a team. At this point, it absolutely has to happen as far as concern. I think it will now we'll see if he's good enough to play his way into a starting or backup position on the team which I would love to see him in the uniform this year, and Jalen do you anticipate a lot of players like cabinet? Take a knee for the anthem wind play finally resume. See a lot of these guys and myself in particular Jacoby, we stand on the shoulders of giants. Look over my shoulder. You see Kareem abdul-jabbar Jim Brown. He'll Russell. You see those guys right Muhammed I lead the late great. At a time when they were protested, ninety eight percent of the people were VAC now. The movement is gone. Mainstream blacks now live in the suburbs is more mixed families and your parents who grew up in America. That looked a lot different fifty five and older will their kids, and their niece and nephews don't feel like that anymore so now to see why kids in the suburbs and order city holding up signs that say black lives matter. That's a level of progress that we have not had and so for people like Colin. He made it vogue for people to have a voice because the first time he did it twelve people holly took a knee. But this time it's going to be hundreds of people that take a neat, and that's because column made the sacrifice of his career. I also think that is something that I just thought of I. Think you'll also see fans take a knee for the anthem, not just the players on the field. It'd be really interesting to see when this comes back in the NFL. Finally returns well when NFL does return. It is. James Winston on a new team and he's very confident about his quarterbacking ability. Here's what Janus Winston had to say. I know what I'm worth and I know day in day out without publicly coming in and saying it that historically on one of the best quarterbacks to play the game, there are also reports that he's lost weight that he's Gone Vegan, which is my disappointed because I love crab legs. I love crab. Legs. got. Some crab legs there and again. But what do you think about James? Wisden, saying that historically he's one of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game. This a hustle and learn year for Jamie. Who led the league in passing yards last season yet? He's GonNa make one million dollars in play behind drew brees this year, and I applaud his confidence. It almost reminds me of the video saw him licking his fingers. Talking about a team was either w just like okay I. figured out what it is. A rational confidence talked to you about all of the time. What do you think I'm sitting in the Locker Room? Saying y'all watch last dance and Michael. Jordan trying to get six championship. I'm like we bought the in that. The rest of the world. I believe the same thing when you're young I'm going to the League. They were looking at me. I'm skinny. Also my face can't release. You can't really drove a you going to the league. That irrational confidence is what makes professional. Athletes elevate themselves and put themselves in position to be successful now what he's saying. Is it accurate? Why I understand why he says it. I liked it. He used the word historically, because usually when people look at history, they look at numbers and records last season. He did something that no quarterback has ever done before. Historically, he out-performed other quarterbacks with no one had ever thrown thirty interceptions at thirty touchdowns in. Historically. He is one of the best quarterbacks to play the game technically by the numbers. It is time for some very important news that matters..

"Says these NFL expanded playoffs is people saying wait what and if I expanded playoffs that's right Adam Schefter Anna no where everybody know this was coming I did notice is common debt the NFL's thinking of expanding the playoffs it is only gonna do it and add a seventeen game which we've heard Richard Sherman among others no they don't want any part of that strongly again once their bodies man I mean it you know so the players are going to vote on this but obviously you know it's all things bargaining and we'll see what they get Emmanuel Sanders played seventeen last year was a big question I have is if this were to go through and then with the new play because because I heard you talking about this today does that mean the new playoff format for number one seed even would include you would have to win three playoff games just to get to those who want to get to buy once he gets a bye you have to the other six teams play three winners emerge in there for shop at the to see now would have to play well card we have that's the change so it's still like the Packers getting a bra they wouldn't they would have they would have to play but that same with that's that that's the interesting thing is the Packers would have not had a bye neither would Kansas city Kansas city whatever to play four games to win a Super gaffe gonna be that one see that's why it's a lot of exchange that's like a quarter of a season rail like that then what what players get in return is an up tick from the forty seven percent of total revenue they're currently guaranteed over the full CBA so that they would go to forty eight percent they get more money what is that going to compromise a level of football two by the tech guy can be like that's already did but that went like you don't you might not be getting the best product because now you talk and seventeen games plus maybe four plus two it's just too already players are gonna sign off on these do what they are we'll see I don't know I don't know about that one the fact is being reported by the likes of a Mike silver and Ian Rapoport in Adam Schefter means we're getting close to his Shafter okay give me some shifter on this we're gonna get more regular season weeks we're gonna get more post season games more wall car action and one of the players get an increase in their percent of the revenue now right now the NFL players get forty seven percent of the current revenue under the terms of the new deal he'll be forty eight percent for sixteen games and forty eight and a half percent for a seventeen game season which means a shift of five billion dollars that's five would that be billion dollars so the players get a lot more money the NFL gets more games to sell which equals more money and basically there's more money for everybody to go around the ever the old phrase everybody has their price there you go you know policy ever made a scene I mean eyes their price and they did that players like no no no no no five billion nine maybe and I'm pretty sure they somebody always talking right the seventeenth game I don't think would be added until the twenty twenty one season but the fourteenth I guess the thirteenth and fourteenth playoff teams could be added as early as this season is that correct I'm not sure twenty twenty one well the the at the current buyers following this season right but they're still talk about adding the playoff format I think they could change with approval but is this good for football the like is this good I wonder it's gonna do like the ultimately the product to be honest I can honestly see load management entering the other that's all they're going to have to the human body can only take so much they might you might see a stud like George killer somebody like sit out a game I wouldn't I would totally understand that you can't expect the human body to survive twenty one an NFL full on from there so few gave you got a win everyone of you place you can't load manage too

Super Bowl LIV fan base: What to expect for 49ers-Chiefs

"Which teams fan base. Have you seen show up in larger volume for this super bowl. The chiefs the forty nine. It's really interesting when the chiefs chiefs won that game against the Texans. I mean incredible game right. I'm sorry I didn't start going. We've both been credible Adam Schefter we saw a huge pop from chiefs fans when the niners beat the packers. We saw kind of a large base of people people purchasing tickets. But not as big. What's happened over the last few days however is that niners fans are starting to flood it? They've got the notification for the price alert And so I flew in yesterday from San Francisco where I live in eighty percent of the flight must have been Garoppolo or Eric. Sure Era Richard Sherman jerseys an and so. I think it's going to be fifty fifty in the stadium going to be hard to tell because it's GonNa be a lot of red bull's dream crusher. That's that's right so it'll be fascinating to see but I think I think these are both phenomenal fan.

N.F.L. Declines to Suspend Tyreek Hill After Domestic Violence Investigation

"The Kansas City chiefs have dealt with domestic violence with a few different players. But without a doubt right now the most prominent is star wide receiver tyreek Hill. I can you tell me about tyreek hill as a player and what he brings to the chiefs. Offense tyreek Hill is one. One is the most dynamic exciting explosive most fun to watch players in the NFL. He's very small wide receiver. If you were to Stanek some at the grocery store you wouldn't look at the sky and say wow he's an NFL player but when you get them on the football field key is arguably faster than anybody anybody else in the NFL. What he's able to do when he gets the ball in his hands and space weather? That's catching a pass from Patrick mahomes down the middle of the field. The Thai Rico. Taking jet sweep out of the backfield or catching a punt or kickoff return kill to the outside electrify in for the touchdown. He's one of the most exciting players in the NFL and he's expected to play a major role in the super bowl on on Sunday Probably being guarded by Richard Sherman. Can you describe what the matchup with the niners is GonNa look like yet. It should be a really great matchup between tyreek Hill and Richard Chairman. Who is the star? Cornerback for the San Francisco. Forty niners and one of the most interesting XS. and Os schematic thing. That's going on right now. Is How the chiefs are GonNa find ways to get tyreek hill away from Richard Sherman. Because they don't WanNa throw against Richard Sherman so the goal will be to find ways to get the ball to tyreek hill. Line him up in different places get him the ball and creative ways so that. They're not putting him in one on one situations against one of the best. quarterbacks and football tyreek hill was making headlines even before he ever played a single. NFL Game. Can you tell us about his college career and the incident that happened in December of two thousand fourteen yes tyreek hill kind of had a winding college football journey. He actually started at a community college and Kansas before enrolling at Oklahoma state and in his first year at Oklahoma state in two thousand fourteen he became a star immediately really because of his ridiculous speed his strength as a special teams players apart. returner this but late. In his only a year at Oklahoma state he was arrested and accused of domestic violence in an incident with his girlfriend who is twenty years old at the time and he was accused of Punching Ching her choking her and also punching her in the stomach while she was pregnant. tyreek hill was brought here to the pain county jail. His arrest comes just one week after for he was the hero of the bedlam game. So is arrest on the charge and almost immediately was dismissed from the Oklahoma State football team. He pleaded guilty into this domestic violence. Charge in addition to a battery charge and he was sentenced to three years probation. He was also instructed to go to anger management counseling to undergo domestic violence counseling. Although he was never sentenced to jail time He was able to continue his college football career when he enrolled at the university. I see of West Alabama. That's a division two school and then in April of two thousand sixteen sixty fifth in the two thousand sixteen. NFL draft against it achieves slack. Sorry Cal Wide Receiver West Alabama so it was a surprise. Actually that tyreek Hill was drafted because in in two thousand sixteen. We were still not that far removed from the Ray Rice scandal and you know tyreek Hill at kind of become kind of a poster child for a guy who got in trouble while in college in he. He was seen as one of those type of guys whose character red flags made him undrafted. He's had some issues domestic violence issue that that frankly frankly I thought might keep him from being drafted. This guy has blazing speed but the Kansas City chiefs went ahead and drafted him anyways. They drafted him in the fifth round in large part because of his forty or dash ty which was four point two nine seconds which is elite speed one of the fastest times that at any NFL players have run in years and what the reaction when he's drafted. It was pretty negative. We have to remember that. The Kansas City chiefs went through one of the most horrific horrific incidents in recent. NFL history in two thousand twelve. When one of their players linebacker named Jovan belcher killed his girlfriend and then committed suicide right in the parking lot of the chiefs training facility belcher turned one of those guns on Perkins reportedly shooting her nine times at the home? The couple shared with their three month Old Daughter the child was spared. This is a wound that was still very raw in the Kansas City community. You know very tragic senseless murder suicide aside and here the chiefs are drafting tyreek Hill player. who had pleaded guilty to very violent crime against his pregnant pregnant girlfriend and so it was? It was largely negative response especially from from female fans from the survivor community. I find that really frustrating that We're still holding up these celebrities As you know oh working on things things are getting better. We don't know what she's going through. And it's important to note that when Giovane Belcher thing happened Andy. Reid was not the head coach of the chiefs yet but he was tyreek Hill was drafted. And what's the response from from. I'm Andy Reid and from the chiefs front office when they start to see some of this backlash you know. The immediately held a press conference and tried to talk about all of the work that they had done into studying tyreek hill. Well we have our due diligence. We're regards to fooling vetting. Each one of our draft class members. They spoke to WHO His coaches and they also spoke to the prosecutors from Oklahoma in the domestic violence case and they said all right we. We believe that this guy i. I won't get in trouble again before given the opportunity for a second chancellor on the right things and so he's he's been in counseling. Continue to be in counseling. We've got a great support system here for that and that he would be a model citizen and largely for his first couple of years in Kansas City he was and despite this pushback that they're getting from fans both in Kansas City and across the country Tyreek Hill remains on the chiefs after after. He's drafted and he starts this season as punt returner. How does his rookie season go? Spectacularly from football perspective the open field. He's they're gonNA take special chance to sit in started out as kind of a wide receiver. Who is kind of buried on the Dutch art? But he was their primary punt returner and within a couple months of his rookie year. If you went to a game at Arrowhead you would see fans wearing that number ten tyreek Hill Jersey and every time that he would go back to catch a punt. You would hear in unison. Fans at Arrowhead stadium chanting tie wreak tie reek and he would feed off of it. The crowd would feed off of this energy. And you know. It didn't take long before. He became one of the most beloved players on the chiefs roster because of his football prowess and in spite of the ugly history that he had coming into the NFL and in the next few seasons go after the two thousand sixteen season so as far as football it only continued to get better for tyreek hill so as a rookie. He was primarily early. A special teams player. You know we mostly just saw him returning punts and doing a fantastic job of that. He was an all pro his rookie year. But you know after that first season he became the chiefs number one wide receiver. They moved him from a special teams roll into a role where he was going to be a major part of their offense and he handled that Smith winds up getting Franch Kansas City. He exceeded everybody's expectations as a wide receiver. She became at that point. The most important piece in the chiefs offense and then in March of last year tyreek Hill is back in the news with new allegations of child abuse. tyree kills three year. Old Son suffered a broken arm in March of Twenty nineteen. And how this this child broke his arm. That is the big question and that was what investigators in Kansas where tyreek hill his fiancee. The mother of his son were living living and ultimately nobody has determined how the child suffered this broken arm in April after about a month of investigation the district attorney in Johnson County. Kansas Released a statement that while he believed a crime had been committed they did not have evidence that can conclude Who who the perpetrator was? So that meant that it could have been tyreek hill. It could have been his fiancee. It could have been a caregiver a short time later. The case from a criminal perspective respective was ruled inactive the NFL's investigation and the Department of Children Family Services. Their investigations continued however and then the day after the district attorney in Kansas declines to press charges audio between Hill and his fiancee is released. What you'd rather him somehow or he fell one of the two? Then why does say deputy. Why Oh and just to clarify for listeners? Be Fiance Crystal. That he's talking to on this recording is the same woman that he pled guilty to abusing in college. Yes initially in April liberal part of this audio recording released and it was very damaging to tyree count. You could hear tyreek Hill could parading his fiancee. You know using threatening language is terrified of you and you say that he respects you but it's not it's not respect it's terrifying. He is terra of we need to be terrified of and the immediate reaction to that in the media from from kind of within the NFL world was how could they not charge him. After this month's later the full audio recording was released which you know didn't didn't necessarily tyreek Hill in a better light but it kind of even out the conversation a little bit reports he wrote. And if you want to rewind that night we can rewind that night to my house and pick you up and slam you know picked up and put out on my door and after that you've built bruises come from tyree waited the bruises. Come Out I'm asking. Where did the bruises come out to hit Youtube? You too and it was full audio recording that I believe is really the key piece of evidence for the NFL that led the NFL to their decision. To not ultimately punished honest. I recall after this investigation.

Super Bowl LIV Preview

"Today ahead of Super Bowl. Fifty four we break down just what to expect when the Chiesa. He's the niners square off on Sunday. I mean at times it's Thursday January thirtieth this espn daily presented by Dell small business. We are on radio row right now. ESPN daily is in the back There are radio stations across America. ESPN shows everyone is at their booths. Interviewing players analysts celebrities stars. And we've got one here with us. Dominic foxworth radio row is madness. It always ban is but it's like three hundred people gets bigger and his crazier every year. Well Luke speaking of madness this game people having trouble picking the winner I think because it truly feels like the two best teams made it to the Super Bowl. I feel like I'm just GONNA. It was Patrick Mahomes. Because it's not GonNa be fun rooting against him. We'll be more fun rooting for him than against it. Let's start by talking about patching mahomes chiefs offense versus the San Francisco Forty Forty niners defense. Which is sort of the strength on strength matchup in this game? I think history would favor San Francisco because the recent super bowls elite defenses. Have come out on top. The two thousand fifteen Denver Broncos the two thousand thirteen Seattle seahawks. We don't need to talk about what happened near later. The two thousand eight steelers ninety six packers list goes on typically offense loses according to our friends at stats and Info so the niners are the sevens team in the last fifteen years to make it to the super bowl with fifty five or more sex the other six teams all won dominique. We've seen how disruptive active this pass rushes the secondary ranks near the top of the League in stopping deep passing as the linebackers fast they can move laterally. Which is the chiefs specialty with their sweeps and screens? And all that said tell me how the chiefs offense can still beat them. I mean I have never seen the chiefs. Offense actually be stopped in any legitimate way especially with a healthy Patrick mahomes and he is healthy. And that's the difference is when we've seen great defenses. Losing the Super Bowl. It's been all time great quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers one of the people who did I did not think Patrick Mahomes is obviously in that category. As far as this town is concerned. If you were the niners defense how would you defend Patrick Mahomes this explosive chiefs passing attack. So I think you have to mix it up. That's the best thing you can do. And you also have to understand that you're not gonNA stop them. They're GONNA make plays they're going to score points. But you need to try not to give a big play. Touchdown don't stress about them getting to the red zone but play well in a red zone which the forty niners haven't been doing which is scary. It's interesting right. Yeah the the niners defense ranks. Thanks near the top in most statistical categories this year. But you're right. They have been less. Efficient are actually been below average in the red zone. They've struggled to stop the run there. which cheese haven't really been running the ball lately? They've also struggled this season against mobile quarterbacks now that requires an enormous caveat which which is that D. Ford niners pass rusher at Kwon Alexander. LINEBACKER missed a lot of games during the regular season but you look performances against Cuyler Murray Lamar Jackson Russell Wilson. You saw those were the games in which they struggled a little bit more for what we've seen from Patrick Mahomes in this postseason is is an insane ability to take off the football as the leading rusher for his team and the playoffs so far and I think that he's always been comfortable with it now that his knee is gone a little bit unhealthier. He's more apt to take off. But I think that's less scary the him getting outside of the pocket throwing like I'd almost rather him try to run it for twenty yards. Because what happens win. He buys time against the forty niners. Specifically they're not traditionally man coverage team but everything turns the main when the quarterback starts to scramble like. That's your your scramble scramble roles as a defensive back or linebackers find closest guy and stick to them everything tires demand at that point in there they just frankly. The forty niners don't have the secondary speed speed in secondary and to be fair to them. No one has a speed and a secretary to run with McColl Hartman and tyreek hill specially with the arm. That Patrick Mahomes has the the chiefs are the best st passing team in the NFL or close to it. The San Francisco Forty niners are the best at defending the NFL or close to it. Something has to give live. How do you even begin to defend all of those weapons? especially if you're the forty niners you play a pretty simple cover. Three quarters mixed in there. Do you change it up. What do you do with Rick Chairman? You have to change it up. You can't survive and covered three. Andy Reid loves four verticals and with that speed and in Patrick mahomes arm strength and accuracy. He will eat you alive in the same with four verts. Would it really comes down to is pressure which is why I think that blitzing is a smart move. You WanNa make them get rid of the ball quickly and tackle but you're not gonNa do it every single time and if you give him one opportunity unity he can make you pay so you need to get the Turner was when you get those opportunities. I think they should be more aggressive than they've been and try to force them to get rid of the ball and make tackles. Yeah if there's been a weakness in this defense dominique. It's been the other side of the field for Richard Sherman originally weatherspoon more recently. They've been playing a manual. You'll Moseley a corner. He's been better but undeniably. That's an area of the field. I think the chiefs would like to target so much of the performance of the San Francisco Secondary. It depends on the pass rush getting home and you know as a former DB pass rushes the secondary's best friend a lot of the great statistics we've seen from the secondary can dairy are the product of this pass. Rush being so explosive a pass rush that turns into a murderer's row. Win The big four Defoe Award. DEFOREST Buckner Eric Armstead and it boasts are all on the field when those four players are playing their sack ratio. The percentage of drawbacks drawbacks in which they get to the quarterback jumps from six percent to twenty three percent twenty three percent of the time. They're taking the quarterback down So Eh my question to you is they've been able to get a lot of pressure by just rushing four. Do you think that they'll have success against a chief offensive line. That's probably one of the better offensive lines they faced aced. No now. It's just for. I don't think they can be able to stop him. The more I think about it in a way that you framed that I think made it very clear my mind is I think they're going to have to flush them out. You got to get him to run with the football or get them uncomfortable to get rid of the football. Because I do think that the chiefs offense line is good enough that they're not just going to get massacred. And then you put on top of it. The chiefs offense is not one that killed by a fact like most offenses. If you second now it's second and fifteen second eighteen it's over it's third and twelve. It's over over. It's not true for the chiefs offense so they can get pressured they could get a sack. Can Patrick Mahomes can make a play in overcome that so I think that the the worst thing they could possibly do is believe leave. Their Front for is going to be enough to stop this chiefs offense so far this postseason what we've seen from Patrick. Mahomes is a record performance. I quarterback in NFL history to throw for two fifty at rush for fifty consecutive games in a postseason. Do you think he keeps it up. And that's a difficult question because yes you can think he'll play well but we're talking about playing at historic level. I think he does keep it up and I think I've said this a lot in to the point where people make fun of me is that he's never had a bad game and that's one of the most mind blowing. I guess you can call it that you see from a guy who's who's just been starting for two years played a lot of games and there's never had a bad one like mediocre is the worst as you get out of them in in the big games. He's been fantastic gets thirteen touchdowns. Yeah no interceptions in his playoff career. And I know it's been said Ad Nauseam nor is why they are in Super Bowl last year because of off someone lining up offsides so like I've yet to see him shrivel into big moment he only seems to get bigger and until I see him Have a tough outing going to lean in favor

Can Sherman, 49ers stop Hill, Chiefs passing game?

"Tyree kill we got to talk about him because he's the game breakers speedster and I just don't know if they have the speed to stay with them yeah could be the game Burke if you let him get deep a couple times you're done so I mean he's gonna be a key player that they've got the fourteen hours have got to stop if they're going to stay in this game yeah I mean if you flood those zones and Richard Sherman and the rest the secondary can't keep up with our retail you know the patriots had the plan last year right the man coverage underneath the safety over the top that was costly shading over to Terry kill side of the field they need a plan like that to take away Tyree kill that that may not necessarily matter much of the other guys are open but they have to have a plan for Tyree kill it can't just be out what we'll see how it goes which is Richard Sherman was at stake can you cover Terry Kelly so we'll see how it goes I literature recover tire kill no he cannot I mean Mike you know we how many times have you and I've been by kind of pound the desk over the last few weeks talking about like if there's a there's an area that's susceptible for yardage in the forty Niners even I still think it's outside on Sherman mostly at the corner position and do you know to to Sharon's point Tyree kill you know whether it's the three deep Seattle coverage your man to man they both play like man to man and I don't think they have that guy that can sit there can Roma Tyree kill so to me I would think a big aspect of the game or I would wanna attack of I mean you read out go man I got this guy with a rifle for a right arm and a guy who's got three rockets up is but on the outside running I would either run by people or they're gonna be so scared you're gonna run by by that when he puts the brakes on runs of fifteen your come back or anything like that he's going to be wide open I would think that is a part of this football game

Super Bowl Bound: 49ers and Chiefs

"Did bill. We made it to the Super Bowl. You me and Jimmy Garoppolo. I feel I I may have sweat more watching the NFC championship game. That Jimmy Garoppolo actually swept playing being in the NFC championship game. Bill Barnwell is a senior football writer at ESPN and the host of the bill. Barnwell show so after two weeks Of Extremely Exciting Football Championship weekend did not disappoint niners and chiefs fans disappointed pretty much everyone else or at least anyone who wanted close close games both favorites dominated so let's start with the most dominant team the San Francisco Forty niners bill win the niners packers met earlier earlier. This season. Aaron Rodgers had one of the worst games of his career threw for one hundred and four yards. Tonight he threw for three hundred twenty six yards But the result wasn't much better. Why is that okay? So the first time these two teams played the niners won with an absolutely dominant. Pash Josh Rush Nick. Bosa and his teammates knocked down Aaron Rodgers ten times on Sunday. The only knockdown Aaron Rogers twice and while they did hold them without a first down conversion in the first half both of those games the packers movable pretty consistently I should say after after halftime instead the forty niners otherworldly in a different way on Sunday they ran the ball forty two times for two hundred eighty five yards and four. We're touchdowns averaging nearly seven yards per carry to put that in context. ESPN has a stat called expected. Points with measures how each play impacts team's James Chances of scoring on a given the forty niners racked up the second most rushing. EPA for any team in a game this season and and the most for any single team in a playoff game over the last decade just narrowly beating out the prior record holder. which just happened to be the forty niners? Twenty wanting twelve playoff win over. The Green Bay Packers would Colin Kaepernick. Ran For one hundred. Eighty one rushing yards. So they're leading rusher tonight. I was not Colin Kaepernick. It was re Moster who ran for two hundred and twenty yards by himself. were good has hat trick the first half of the NFC championship game deserves a hat trick of field grade baby bill. Will I am guessing. A decent amount of football fans hadn't heard Ramos before tonight. Okay so you mustard is basically it accident accident in football terms but it's such a cool story so the Shanahan offense has a history of unearthing obscure running back and turning them into stars going back to Mike Shanahan stays in Denver but even among those backs most particularly remarkable case. Liners did everything they could to find a different running back over the past a couple of years. They hand picked a runner who they traded up to nab in the two thousand seventeen draft never played a game for the team. They signed Jerick McKinnon Torres. ACL He's collected more than and twenty one million dollars for the niners without ever playing a single game for the team. This offseason they added. Kevin Coleman from the Falcons who suffered an injury in the first half and that opened up the door from western and most of its story is easy to root for. You heard him talk about it. After the biggest game of his life on Sunday crazy that I've been on seven. Different teams actually still have cut dates every before every game a look at the dates when I got cut not everybody can can deal. Would that type of stressing the pain and agony I went through. I kept the faith to not only myself but whoever gave me the opportunity is organization has done a great job most are made the niners roster as a special teamer at first but after he looked good in limited time last season they gave him a three year extension after playing. Well this season most are just became the first running back. NFL history to top two hundred rushing yards and scored four rushing touchdowns in a single game. That's never happened in the playoffs playoffs before pretty good for a guy who was really an afterthought until the two thousand eighteen season. What's just remarkable? Bill is those two hundred twenty rushing yards. Were nearly three times as many yards as Garoppolo the night as quarterback past for which made for a remarkable stat sheet. There was a point in this football game where according to ESPN stats and Info. Jimmy went ninety four minutes in real time without attempting a pass so I have to ask going into the Super Bowl. Is that a sustainable offensive approach. I mean we all had that friend and in our twenties who got by succeeded solely because they were good looking right now that friend is Jimmy. Garoppolo I mean in the divisional round. He barely through through the football in the conference championship game. He barely through the football. We saw a similar situation with Ryan. Tannehill right over the first two weeks of his post. The season and when Tennessee ran into an offensive juggernaut with the chiefs their offense with Danny Hillis not able to accelerate into a higher gear. Now of course Garoppolo is the one who has to face the chiefs unless the forty niners can shut down the Kansas City. Passing game with their pass rush which isn't out of the question they're going to need to throw the football more quite a bit more. We've seen the niners succeed in games or Garoppolo and to throw the ball at ton with the Saints Win. Maybe as a notable for example but since Garoppolo through that interception against the Vikings in the divisional round cow Shanahan has called seventy one runs against just twelve passes passes even if the niners do end up throwing the ball effectively against the chiefs. It's clear that Shanahan doesn't WANNA put the game on Garoppolo shoulders unless absolutely necessary and that in itself is telling throughout the game bill packers fans were frustrated. Understand police and they seem to be taking out some of their wrath on the coaches arguing. They should have devised better game. Plans to both run the ball more and stop the run and do you think there's anything that Matt Leflore or the Packers Defensive Coordinator Mike Patton could have done differently in this game. Yeah I think so I think to be fair. Shanahan might just ask pedants number. It just felt like you is several steps ahead of the packers defensive coordinator and when pen and tried to adjust it just never seemed to catch up and work there. There was one play I think in the second quarter was a microcosm of everything that went wrong for the packers in this game. They came out in their nickle package with five defensive backs against the forty niners base. He's too back offense which created the size mismatch. The niners pitched the Baltimore and not only did he have a huge hole but he made both safeties with on their tackle attempts downfield win for about thirty yards. pedants struggled to put his players in positions where they could succeed and meanwhile leflore didn't coach like a guy who was a seven point underdog. The packers punted. I believe on their first drive on fourth and one from the fifty yard line. We know the packers are enormously more effective offense with Aaron Aaron Jones on the field but the floor still Jamal Williams their backup running back. Play over thirty percent of the offensive snaps and he didn't really take advantage of move the niners movement Richard Sherman. That was really fascinating during the regular season for the niners and during the vast majority of his time in Seattle Sherman signed up for almost every every snap asked the left cornerback. Defense playing against the right side of the offense. The niners started the game on Sunday. Which chairman on the opposite side of the field on the right side of the defense on the left side of the offense against devante items and while Sharon didn't travel to the left side very frequently? He did do it a few times during the first half. The second half Adams was able to be isolated Sherman over the top for a huge play downfield. I think that played about half of his snaps on either side of the field. I would have liked to have seen for trying to isolate him against German a little more often and take his chances with
