So <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> if <Speech_Music_Male> that ride <Speech_Music_Male> helped <Speech_Music_Male> so many people. <Speech_Music_Male> Yes. And it's <Speech_Music_Male> such a great, <Speech_Music_Male> so many people have <Speech_Music_Male> gotten behind it. <Speech_Music_Male> It's gone all for a <Speech_Music_Male> long time, and it's <Speech_Music_Male> if you're looking for <Speech_Music_Male> something to help <Speech_Music_Male> that is an <Speech_Music_Male> incredible charity <Speech_Music_Male> that helps a <Speech_Music_Male> lot of people and <Speech_Music_Male> it's so cool <Speech_Male> to see how <Speech_Male> many people have <Speech_Music_Male> supported it. It's crazy. <Speech_Music_Male> You can see in the same people <Speech_Music_Male> come back year after <Speech_Male> year after year. Yeah, <Speech_Male> listen, it's been a <Speech_Male> blast. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Okay, so we <Speech_Male> started the ride with one <Speech_Male> Hall of Famer. No, <Speech_Male> listen. We <Speech_Male> got it all, dude. Whatever <Speech_Male> you want. <SpeakerChange> Whatever you <Speech_Male> want, baby. So I think <Speech_Male> I could do that. "I just don't believe you can be so fortunate to have good luck, great equipment, great people, you know. What if you have the best driver in the world and a crew chief who is trained by check and Alice, the guy who guided Jimmy all those championships. I think the best driver in the world, the best equipment of world can't win 5 in a row. I think it's the format, it's one race. It's so many things. I actually believe that one of the biggest travesties in this sport is that Jimmy Johnson wasn't pushed onto a higher pedestal for what he did for 5 in a row. And I was in a shop next to him trying to beat him every week and I didn't appreciate it, but every year I get more distant from that run, the more impressed I am at what he was able to do. He would not give Richard Petty his due and he was doing it. People did not give peers in this other sport to not give Dale Earnhardt. Pettit, what he was doing because you can't admit he's better. I think that's true, right? I don't want to sit, you know, I can't go to the tracks on race Jimmy Johnson said man, this is never going to be done again. But now that I'm not trying to do it, I don't believe. And listen, it doesn't have to be. You know, the guy lined up one ten races. Ten races in the championship. Good. I mean, it's a I haven't done enough research to say it's a top 5 or top 8, but it's up there for one of the best seasons ever. Yeah, let's be careful not to compare Kyle Larson to Jimmy Johnson or anybody else after one championship. Like let's get three or four and then we can start having this conversation. This don't get the car before the horse is no question about his talent, but let's go. Let's go there to do three more. And the reason I say that is because, you know, one thing that I loved about Jimmy is that today he's the same guy after championship one. Yeah. And I see those qualities in Kyle Larson, but I don't have a crystal. I can't predict. Who is he gonna be in 5 years? Who's gonna be inside me to go win 7 championship chips? We're talking a decade of racing. So who is he gonna be when he's near 40 years old? Yeah, I don't know. Let's just let him enjoy the first one. What have you done for me lately? All right, John, you're joining the show..

Getting out there with richard petty motorsports and getting on track with them and actually turn and laugh. 20 Years Later: How Dale Earnhardt's Death Changed NASCAR Forever

"Ryan mcgee. Espn daily's chief. Paint trading correspondent. Thank you for joining me man. That's me man when i started. Espn a really really long. Time ago and i had this accent there were like. Hey you know about nascar right. I go yes you do. More than just know about nascar ryan you have now reported and narrated a new film for east sixty and it's called intimidator the lasting legacy of dale earnhardt. And i wanna talk to you about it today because it's a lot. It's about a lot more than how transcendent dale was on the track. It focuses on how he radically changed. Nascar's culture when it comes to safety but before we get into that. I do want you to just kinda sketch out for us. Who dale was for the uninitiated here and what made him such a towering figure in the nascar universe well and it's interesting because he's been gone twenty years i mean nascar's more than seven hundred races without del earnhardt and so for those of us of a certain age the idea of having to explain him and and why he's such a big deal seems insane but we saw what the last dance. The last dance ron's and half of twitter was like well. He was good. But you know this jordan character. Yeah we should know about it and we were so offended but bless their hearts. They didn't see him play. And so in this case you know. You have an entire generation twenty years exactly of sports fans who didn't see our heart race but it wasn't just about seventy six wins seven championships and also was just about the presence in the room. Always say with dell earnhardt if there was a thousand of us in a ballroom and we're all looking at a stage and he were to come in the back door when none of us were looking. We'd all instinctively. Just turn around because the air in the room changed. There was just a presence in a way that it carried himself and conducted his business and the intimidator thing that was legit. Every time i will. I know him. And every time i was in a room with him there was a little part of me. That was just trying not to say something stupid or pass out so on the back of the baseball card ryan so to speak. What are the accomplishments. That people should know about what dale did. Well the seventy six winds are really big deal but the seven championships and seventy plus year. The stockcar racing only three people one seven championships the checkered flag bands around their heat waves to them. That checkered card. His greatest success was on the super speedways. the taliban soup speedway and daytona he one thirty four racists and though tone national speedway thirty four nella one of those was the daytona five hundred and that was part of the appeal for him was even though he was this one tough customer and the man in black timid and all those things it took you twenty tries to finally win the daytona five hundred lawson in heartbreaking fashion multiple times twenty years frustration. Taylor that program names on the can't take it off. I guess i love it. He just he was in every man but he also of superman and that was always the appeal and outside of that ballroom. Full of the sports powerbrokers ryan. What was his status. Like regionally among the nascar faithful. How would you begin to describe what he meant to those people. What i hated it. Because when he came along in the late nineteen seventies. and you know it wasn't disrespect. But he didn't back down from. Richard petty from kailua from bobby allison from david pearson from any pissed them off the couldn't stand him and he would recommend a short track race. In martinsville and afro richer. Penn is electric. Listen kid you can't do it like this. And he just kept doing his way.

That's the best part is when when these teams get to participate in all this stuff, and so We better see the two teams in the Myrtle Beach ball, like, you know, eating rotisserie chicken and watching. The night's slug it out to medieval times, right? They're gonna have. That's exactly what I was about to say They're gonna load up the coaches on some trusty steeds and run them at each other and 30 Miles an hour. Hey, one of the I think it's the used to horse around 30 Miles an hour. Sure. I think the Houston Bowl they for years they've done this. The players get out on like they participate in a rodeo. Like they put them all out on the field and like part of the competition is they left steer. They literally cows loose, and they've got a cur. Put him in the corral. They're all out there using their bodies. It's just It's just the best and I love going when the Duke's male bowl but bold takes him to the sharpest, my love going on that thing and watching the players. They think they're the toughest dudes in the world. A lot of them opt out of getting in the race car. Producer Travis has located the information that we all need this morning. Apparently the top speed At which the world's fastest equine sprinter, the quarter horse has been clocked. 55 miles an hour. Whoa! The fastest recorded race time for a thoroughbred is 44 miles an hour. The average equine gallop. Clocks in at 27 Miles an hour. So the Alberti Mile an hour is that I nailed it. You didn't know it. All I know is However fast they're going No. That is fast enough that if you're sitting on the front row at the medieval times when the horse makes the turn, it will absolutely flick a bunch of dirt into your rotisserie chicken. In a statement Thursday bubble, Wallace confirmed he's parting ways with Richard Petty Motor Sports at the end of the NASCAR Cup Series season. While it's adding quote. This was not an easy decision as I have nothing but the utmost respect for Richard Petty and his family. But I believe it's time for someone else to take over the reins of the number 43 quote but has yet to pull into victory Lane in the Cup series in three seasons with Petty Motor sports. However, he does have a career best five top 10 finishes this season while also being thrust into the spotlight in the debate over Rachel and Justice in the US as the lone black full time driver in NASCAR's premier circuit.

"On the phone from New York City, the majority owner of Richard Petty, Motor Sports, and some big news for them today, a CZ, a new sponsor for of us. Car. It's a big deal. Yeah, Wass, obviously a very important driver in NASCAR, the subject of a lot of speculation on DH Just a lot of focus right now, as the lone black driver in NASCAR, Carol, right? Exactly Well at this hour. We just want to remind you that we are expecting some comments from President Trump. We do see members of the press community. Gathering together in the Rose Garden. He is expected to sign a China sanctions bill at that event. We know that tensions between the United States and China have certainly been picking up once again. It's been really a tough few years. Certainly since the new administration came in under President Trump very much a very different relationship if you will. Between the US and China, and this seems to be the latest in terms of problems between the two countries. So anyway, we're going to take you there live to the Rose Garden to listen to the president assumes he began speaking well, right, And we also expect that report. We're going to ask him questions about Coronavirus response. You know this On a day where I believe were above 136,000 deaths from the Corona virus here in the United States alone. We're seeing surgeon cases were also seeing some disagreements. I think it's fair to say around the reopening of schools come fall. We had headlines yesterday from Gavin Newsom, the governor of California. About essentially re shutting that economy. That is three worlds. Fifth. Biggest economy, Carol, We should remind people the state of California s Oh, definitely. Some differing opinions about where we go from here just when it comes to the Corona virus, But as you say, we are expecting the president talked a lot about China and those tensions between the United States and China on Ly heightening Right now you've got the South China Sea now coming into focus once again on the virus itself has been tensions with certainly the White House blaming basically China. In terms of its handling of the virus for, you know, or mishandling, certainly, in their words, so that is something that will be listening out for what's interesting is we've talked with a lot of Bloomberg reporters over the last couple of weeks how we're seeing really kind of a reworking geopolitically of, um, our world Because China and us we talked with Andy Brown this week about America, right? This expected relationship this couple ing We have talked about for years between the two nations of the two largest and really most important in most powerful economic, you know, countries around the globe and how that relationship really Never cemented on. We're definitely seeing China kind of go their way, and certainly the United States go that their own way and that exact point. I think it's going to be a really important one going forward because we're going to see a situation where Other countries across the world may be forced to two sides, You know, in a way that they really haven't before. You know, as the U. S. And China has sort of danced around each other and tried different approaches. We also know about the economic Impact that China has both as a producer and a consumer for big global companies, including some big US Cos You think about the likes of Apple? And others..

"But what I would love for our team to dio. First of all about when we brought Richard Petty and I bought the team. Years ago, we had Eric on a roll in the car, and he was one of the first Hispanic drivers sports. Then we put Bobby in the car and what I would love to do because we do have a second shorter master system is kind of like a franchise system Now where There's only a certain amount of Chartres roughly 40 and we have two of the 40. It's like only two teams and Major league Baseball is what I would love to do eventually have a woman driver kind of another Danica Patrick, come into sport. I think once again that would electrify the sport and I would really say a lot about what we're trying to accomplish. So what do you do to improve the pipeline? So it's not just maybe one black driver and what would Charlie what do you do to improve it? And it's not just your your industry facing it. It's really everything right way. Keep talking about corporate America. So what do you do to actually make the pipeline better? That's a good point. Also, you know Hank Aaron and I have some good conversations. How there's not The amount of African American players at the war years ago when he was playing a lot of the players these days come from other countries, which is great, but you know, he recognized that and He thought that he should be making contributions of speaking to minority communities across the country to get kids interested in playing baseball. At a young age, I think bubble will lead by an example. I believe that people We'll see him stand up for his rights, whether he's tweeting against Donald Trump or anybody on stand firm and promote love overheat, and I think you're gonna see a new wave of audience. And drivers, young kids who see him as a role models start learning the sport. It's gonna take time, but that's you know, we took a giant first step. But do Andrew. Do you go out into communities into the Tennis Association does this right They think about urban youth and youth in general and going out. I mean, it's it's about maintaining the existence long term of their sport. But so I do wonder. Do you do some kind of outreach into communities and also provide some financial support for it? Yes, that's exactly right. So what I'd like to start doing later this year, is making some donations to some of the local Dirt tracks around the country. There's a piece coming up on TV recently. I think, in the next 30 days of Dale Earnhardt is doing about some of these tracks are on the country that have kind of gone over time, and I'm not as popular as they used to. But there's still some strong root communities where people really love racing and if we could get to those communities Make contributions put young minority drivers in the chords usually start literally with go karts at.

"The 200 final win of Richard Petty's racing career, which would continue for another eight years. That is a record that still stands Today. Petty has 95 more wins than David Pearson's 105 and After the race was over, Petty did not head to the winner's circle. He headed to the press box to meet the president. I understand that no one in the whole history of racing has ever done that 1 200 races 200 is very, very important, but Under the circumstances with all the presidents that's ever been in the United States, this is the 1st 1 never showed up at the racetrack. So everybody's got to go racing standpoint. And I want to be the one that was able to welcome him to Grand National race. Mike McCarthy or post rejoins us now And while I know you are not an Escarra story, and you have to admit that was A pretty interesting combination of Reagan Petty and a historic win sure was number 200 forever to penny coming at the Firecracker 400 which is epic, historic NASCAR race every fourth of July. I'm like Richard Petty was the Babe Ruth of Sport Royals that Michael Jordan is a sport if you want to like him to another to another athlete, sport. That's how dominant he was in the sixties and seventies. In the eighties. He was really in this twilight. That was his last victory, but for it to come the day came on the Fourth of July with President House and be able to celebrate that victory with the president afterward made for memorable moments and look at me. His nickname was the King. So the king and the president getting together afterwards. Toast each other. That was a pretty cool moment. And the fact that that that that was his last victory also seems a little poetic, you know, the greatest racecar driver of all time. Want a pudding? Exactly 200 races. You know what I also think it shows how far the sport has come as NASCAR's much morning mainstream now and then it Wass on that day of July 4th of 1984. Our last memorable July 4th sporting event took place during the summer of 1990. For that was the year the United States hosted the men's soccer World Cup for the first time, and the US succeeded expectations, including during this match with heavily favored Columbia on June 22nd 1994 which was broadcast by ESPN..

Possible target knows you bumped it, Dude, the FBI said, No, This was not. This's not a hate crime. They said that this is over. That didn't happen. Golly, you be satisfied with this? I don't not think that we've seen closure in this particular inquiry. Okay? Now That's where I agree with you out. There shouldn't be closure because there's more to this there. It stinks all over the place. What really happened? What happened here? Because there's too much that doesn't make sense. So when they're out, assigning stalls At Talladega is his theory. That someone at NASCAR or someone at the track Was like, Hey, yeah, I know we haven't gotten around to fixing that one door. And of the Pull rope kind of looks like a news. Let's put the black guy in that stall. Because you don't remember that one, Frank. Yeah, I think I think we could do that. I think that old that'll send a message. To that guy. Doesn't work that way. No, it doesn't. Unless you're saying that NASCAR itself orchestrated this to tryto Try to show some Florence. That's yes, that's some Kreskin went from finding his check to assembling NASCAR garages. Apparently, this does I mean, if you look out of this whole thing who looks great right now. Last car, the driver's They came around bubble to support him. I mean, no matter what they still look good for doing that. Yeah. Okay, keep me too. Minute and 10 seconds on this we have done all right. We're at work. We have a black co worker we find, uh, something we think could be something like a noose or something like that. Who do you go to you Go to your boss. Right? Yeah. Okay, So you're on the team, and I don't know how that works in NASCAR's bubble your boss because he's a driver. Or is it who runs the team? Richard Petty owned, So you're going to go to it that person and explain what happened. What What are you talking about? I'm gonna go look for a look at it myself. How do you not know it is the freaking garage door handles? How do you not know that? And then you're going to go to the head of NASCAR, right? Is he going to go to the garage? Shoot? I hope so. You're in charge. Oh, yeah, There's a news room. Call the f B. I What? You're going to go Look at Where's the picture? Where is it at? Let's try to figure out what's going on here. There's too much B s. That is just too unbelievable. Something doesn't matter. Does anybody know if it's still there? That's what they think We'd cut it off. So they cut it off. Yes, Okay, Bubba said he has a picture. I mean, no one's ever seen. It is. That is the theory now, then that they looked at this nuisance that hey, this is actually also attached to the interior handle of the garage door. So this is a hate crime with functionality that is very convenient right there and then you need for 15 FBI agents on this for a door handle that's been in their garage door handles since 2017. The FBI should have bigger fusion fry right now. With everything else going on in the world. What do we know about these 15 FBI? To watch of this nonsense, okay? Survey out Fieldman Quarantine. Uh, 30% left the house. You know what for? I think I can guess who it was that Yeah. Yeah, that booty booty. Yah! What they called the You know the kids call it Scott. What a booty call. I believe That's what the Children say Yes. Thea. There's all sorts of stats. 78% of people self isolating with a partner. I've actually been having Mohr because the light more relations I thought I heard less. It depends. Who are the doing these studies with? I'm not quite sure. 2/3 of people.

"Story is Richard Petty some member of Richard petty's teams won it found this thing so I I you know get until something else different comes out I'm going to say look this is what it was and I guess I was upset love there I think a lot of people yesterday and were upset for a bunch of different reasons me personally I was like man is this kind of a pretty cool no I don't watch NASCAR I I just don't I couldn't tell you anything about who's who or where I'm just full disclosure but I think this is pretty cool man you know there's you have to get in a kind of get behind this guy and all this sort of thing seems like a great dude and then I'm like right now it's all ruined right now it's all ruined but I let me sit here right now after I read his statement I'm saying I think was handled how you did come out first number one thing is for this is so great that this was not the situation that we feared that it was right it turned out it was a bunch of nothing a misunderstanding and and we're gonna move on so and like you said and I thought that was pretty cool that he said Hey let's let's not let this discount all the show of unity that being on the other day because that was cool that was cool that's not a second car we got a couple calls wrongness go to Raphael undersell Raphael faraway buddy how are you her brother they are doing good yeah you know it's a do you have so many people hello it's not a majority adult in the United States but too many people want this light weight she already trained to be going against racial ethnic groups are the country do you love them but they're there because there are individuals who are in the media radio or television when you get caught up in it as well and so they want to go I am that because that's going to jail in and give them their rating you guys remember some years ago of course I wish I had been with the Taiwan a broadly now the thing is the one out there so far that he never apologize because I want to draw it out with the proved to be a hoax Sharpton he never apologize like Hey guys you know I was wrong with it I know I like to treat racial story but I was wrong on it he never did that okay you member students met some years ago remember when she said that some black that hijack the the car and drove into the water yes yeah you know it's a couple black guys that that you know but she kept recording everybody needed and everything but then of course it would prove to be you know fox and then you guys mentioned let you know remember what was the name I think politically up in Baltimore he said that the officers are killed him in not what he did you know but dug the black crowd up there and everything and that a district attorney that he was murdered and that police van and when they were taking him to jail because number of pundits when he was out on the pavement and he was taking that you couldn't log in everything but the thing is he was known for thinking the police abuse and everything so in the back of that card he started jumping up and down but it was the low ceiling he actually pretty much broken bones thank you yeah finacle but it was put out there you know like all of the more terrible devilish white competent and have them to you know bring about a few examples and then we had a good rant you're really going hi ma'am thanks for the call on that but no but yeah I I I I think the I I do think that this most people out there just want stuff to simmer down right in there is a lot of people I I think people that it's under the guise of I am helping this movement and all this sort of thing either side right but it is a lot of a selfish right you're kind of looking out for their own self interest and may become a martyr they get a television deal or they get in this kind of thing and I I just especially love of journalists that I sold this immediately the information is about like an hour and they're going to put out the statements I I Campbell and doing all this cross just stop the virtue signaling stop and just wait a little bit because it comes off very instances in insincere to me it comes up insincere a lot of the things they're S. founding against are just you know just like normal stuff you know I mean it's like done of course none of us think this way in Houston and we don't think you think this way but are you doing this because you want to tension or you door because for awhile I don't know I I just think it's a bad look I just wish folks would just just calm down a little bit take a couple days before we react to something first in fast man it is Sir we got we got traffic.

"Number forty three Chevrolet for Richard Petty motor sports who joins us on the program public thanks for joining us we'll get to be a motion here coming up in a moment but can you take me back to Sunday night when you first hear from Steve Phelps of NASCAR and then take us through what happened after that yeah good morning and then to the city to talk to you yes Sunday was started out very uneventful and unfortunate we didn't get to race and but sides quickly shifted and change later that evening when I got a phone call from Steve Phelps said he wanted to meet in person talk about something on a personal matter and I had no idea what to expect I thought I said something wrong in the in interviews that I've done throughout off the couple weeks but that wasn't the case that was it was a very I don't know if it was one of the hardest conversation he's ever had to have it sure seem like it but I don't come to me and say that there was a crime committed that they were receiving forward with the investigation and the next thing you know they said they were gonna do everything in our power to find the guy and get him out of work and yeah that next morning got a call from NASCAR security saying that the FBI was now involved and we're not all its D. C. and you know for me I was obviously get a lot out rejects statements were released and a lot of positive sports search for me on Monday morning was just simply try to clear my head and and and somehow stay away from the madness let me stay on Sunday night though but you see how you get the phone call from the president Steve Forbes thirty tell you what he found yeah we said I want to meet in person walked over to my mother it was a couple more runs away aw and yes he said that they had found a a noose in my garage and and that my crew member actually I found it and reported it to them and they took it in their hands to supersede on what the next steps would you understand so you were told it was a hate crime it was a news did you know if it was attached to anything or if it was on the floor did you describe anything about it no he said that there was just an a noose found my garage so later on that night I all right cold remembers after America might seem just to check in on them and he actually ended up being the one that found and he played it off very well and my crew chief laid off very well actually so to keep it keep it away from me and not let it affect me although I had I had already found so they were trying to protect me and I asked him I said you know have we checked the other garages this isn't something that can you know that was done in a matter of seconds and both of them said in my R. or in their hearts they believe it was done overnight this is this isn't something that can be done in minutes this took time I know how to tie a noose but it was in fact a noose as a garage what I didn't understand there I had a lot of questions at the end in the moment Bubba you know but I'm I don't work in NASCAR so I was trying to understand the proximity of everybody's cars you know if the cove in nineteen the number of people have access to this other garage door pulls mother any other ones that are like there's a slip knot that is constantly constitutes a noose there and I didn't know I know this yep yep no I I'm with you I actually talked to mark remember last night again and you know he was kind of outraged at at how things were I guess concluded and he says one hundred percent if you'd seen it again he would do it all over again and I will back and he says in our sectional garage there was about ten stalls he said before he even said anything to our crew chief to report it he walked up and down the garage just to see if this was the same thing and he said that every other garage pool and no not just a single piece of rope no not involved and the picture I got from what we had what they had eventually cut down and started in the F. B. I. Dan was simply in fact a noose it was not it tied up just like a noose now the FBI backed that up one hundred percent the conversations I had with them and I I told my question my crew chief and Mike remember as it to make sure we were not jumping the gun and they said absolutely they did the right thing and if you seen the pictures you would you would back them up one hundred percent but it is it was it wasn't news but not a functioning this could have been an intentional well I mean they they they found evidence that it was there from twenty nineteen and we just so happen to have that's all for this year's race so unintentional sure was it attack on me I don't believe so but you know with everything going on in the world today you can't just blow that under the rug and act like nothing happened how many times have you been in the garage that week but because I'm guessing that you're you're opening the garage door your your team is in closing it not you in particular but nobody yeah nobody what is it no I haven't been in the garage since we've been back recent I have specific team orders to stand my motor home just to stay away from you know October nineteen at a chance to to be there around it so to isolate myself I've been in my motor home taking naps I was taking naps all day Sunday so but my my crew I don't know the time frame we all got their thinking nine to ten o'clock that morning and and they immediately go work on the cars to get to the races so are those details are more on them we're talking about Wallace when people say this is a hoax how do you react well sorry if I come off as I'm pissed off but I am just because of hello how it's been portrayed and how it's been all me I'm sitting here telling you the facts of how I'm just being told information and and and following student and Nelson I'm playing the victim card but at the end of the day it's I do not I never wanted to be you know carrying the weight of all this even weeks prior to all this madness it just so happens that I am the voice and the face I am the one that that is you know carrying this message and now to have this happen and it ends up not being a an axe rates lack schools me which is great but it just adds that much more drama that much work pressure that again I didn't ask for I didn't want to be a part of but I have to somehow navigate my way through it all and keep my mindset on the task at hand which is we got two races coming up this week in the Pocono and people may sound like that's media avoiding the the the reality of everything going on but it's simply not this is you know I'm just simply try to let people know that through all of this I still have a job at the end of the day to go out and perform and I will I will find peace and serenity throughout the rest of this week with the support of family and close friends to to kind of navigate me back on that right now but it's not going to stream if what we're trying to change in the sport which will ultimately change in this world what kind of reaction you're gonna get in Pocono who knows I know fans are out there I guess they are since we started it's how they get but you know I'm quickly you know trying to not let other opinions affect me and yes I'm I'm I'm frustrated at what I've seen and read it and what not but there's a lot of people that are in my order and I am paying attention and that more so then the negative stuff and you know I'm not like I said I'm not gonna let this take me off after not going to knock me down or break me are we are still fighting for what's right in the sport and still fire what's right in this world yeah as I said at the outset of the show who am I to say to you you're over reacting to this you don't my interpretation could be different than yours and you see the the symbolism of something or you're told that this is what it is and that's why I said you know as a white male I can't say to you all you're overreacting are gonna come on it's just a pull rope here and that's what people.

"You know he he made sure to get zero zero forty three you know that number it has just four hundred fifty miles on the on the engine and still looks brand new and and Richard Petty signed the dash and the front cal and the buy it now price is is a hundred fifty nine thousand dollars I think gives it'll probably go a little higher than that you know but considering it's his car yeah it makes you wonder like why is even selling it you know you you would think that would be something that would be preserved by the family and and you know two hundred years from now it's worth millions of dollars well I'm sure I'm sure is his race cars are yeah they won't be selling those anytime soon but you know this you know this is guidelines from Richard Petty area outlaws Richard by Richard petty's economies some seventy five question eighty probably aren't he's a cowboy yeah yeah yeah yeah actually has a nice car collection too yeah yeah oh yeah yeah a lot of those guys do you know what to name of the guy with the weird mustache that has a car show on Sundays all he goes yeah your normal dialogue he just want to Richard petty's place and we're showing his collection really yeah so it's out there the toddler what's the gap like normal stuff right I saw a glimpse of it he has a lot of older cars yeah and then you know you could you could relate that I'm sure it's a lot of domestic product I'm sure yeah sure yeah they were always they were always Plymouth Richard Petty mostly ran pars M. as in Dodger and then it was I remember gosh it was probably the sixties or something that Dodge went away from NASCAR for a short time and Richard Petty started running to Reno's name and the whole world was up in arms about Richard Petty Ford or out of the ground you know and now his team runs supports they run a Mustang withdrawal strategy get to see the Michael Waltrip tribute to out yet now well you got to watch it later it's really a new well you know I got home last week and I knew there was something that I would that I was gonna watch but I can remember what it was I should have called it yeah Netflix what is that I side of an airplane but I'm sure it's an age extremity already okay yeah order some cable right it's it's got a bloody nose all I look it up zero zero Walter Nelson my white Michael's my brother my watcher tribute to to two are harder in his younger half brother uncle yeah that's the one after struggling and they show you how much you struggle to win races because he was in the business for ever before you actually generates had one of the most big tacular rides ever and the day that he actually won the Daytona five hundred he won his first race his boss and friend dies yeah all right aren't hurt so he goes I can go from the highest of highs to the lows so low well him in the hospital I am in junior were both racing FOR D. E. idea and they were wanting to Dale was third and what happened was with the rack Dale was blocking for them for them on the last lap going Blackburn for and he got into the front end of story somebody catch him and he he black marlin in a heap yeah they yeah it wasn't it wasn't intentional it wasn't intentional they were good friends but absolutely it was a he was the first one to check out car yeah but it was just racing so is that is that out I'm I'm not real versed on NASCAR like the blocking and like to slash big accident what is guy was getting closed in Ohio so you're allowed to do Alan Asher yep wow yeah it's rather just as long this is not you don't hit him intentionally on the site to spend amount that now may get you into a little bit of trouble okay but some wide they you could tell he was so I saw this last race where this guy thank god right yeah at the end of that race his team mate was trying to push him is that what he was dead yes Sir so I guess it's too harsh in the draft wondered you know gather they're gonna go fast you're going to go fast now okay wow and it's totally legit yep yes absolutely that is that is the problem we were separate back liar yeah the restrictive so anyway since everybody gets bunched up so the only way for you to go faster S. T. mom you have yeah and actually two cars you get three cars you even go faster yeah you want to get a good run with three or four cars you don't stop you can see a guy that has the fastest car on track and hill beat on the restart he'll be first and he'll get shuffled to the middle and both lines of cars go right around him he could fall to twenty of play and his I guess the length is as Iraq the length of the draft for those cars are aligned it makes him go quicker so when you're driving by yourself an open air dance when you're dealing with the most regenerate your yeah and you're done yeah yeah you can't do anything about it all right we'll take a short break we'll come back and take your calls eight six six six ten six three nine seven make sure to get him in early not at the last minute we can't get to the that ten fifty eight so get those calls in eight six six six ten six three nine seven.

know what this is the best question you could ask ship because I can make a lebron comparison lebron like there's great players but there's guys where you have to be a great story to all these great stories Kobe because and and don't get this twisted there were people who didn't want to call me in the top ten because of the tragedy copies will be top three with with some people there is a lot of their because of the tragedy with Dale Earnhardt because of what he meant to the sport because it really seems like that was the death of that generation Askar and maybe some people the definite Askar general I think he's up there at the top but he doesn't have the most wins we probably wouldn't have at that time in history at seventy six I'd be very surprised if he would've got to eighty five he was getting a little bit up there he wanted to get an eighth championship we had a good look at it in two thousand but he finished second that season but for what he meant to NASCAR this is been the problem NASCAR since Dale's death Dale Earnhardt was a fallible character meeting that he quit school in ninth grade he had a failed marriage his wife took his child away from them are they changed his last name at that time he was an admittedly absentee father I had another failed marriage then met his current wife who we who is now his widow but there's a lot of people who have those key background to have that same type of thought nothing was given to Dale Earnhardt and there's a lot of people in the American south and really all over the country who could resonate with that guy because they came from the same background is that guy now you're looking at guys they William Byron and Alex Bowman and they start out driving when they're twenty years old and people are gonna go yeah because our Daddy got them involved in racing when they were five because their Daddy own multiple businesses and their Daddy was able to pay for them to be in these type of things so they felt like they have the golden spoon it's a long story long Jimmy Johnson never has been a outwardly big time big spoken guys never been he's never been great with the personality really hasn't armies but a great pitchman he has been a very professional pitchman and obviously is an incredible driver Richard Petty was great for STP and had a great personal as a great personality very opinionated out there with all of it was the face of NASCAR pass that torch on to Dale Earnhardt much like Michael did lebron but we have not seen anything like Dale Earnhardt so I I would still say it's Dale one Richard to Jimmy Johnson three and then I don't know who it round out the top five with gosh tell your bro won three straight championships Jeff Gordon would be up there a David Pearson the silver fox might be there in the top five he ran a partial schedule VI read full schedules who knows what would happen with Davey Allison had he not died but Tim Richmond was an incredible driver if Tim Richmond what a passed away maybe Tim Richmond would be up there in that top five I mean I'm trying to think right off the top my but those three are definitely at the top next all right who ends up with more wins in twenty twenty can Tom Brady or bill Belichick all man that's great bill Belichick next all right last one you alluded to the thirty five year old ghost or also known as the go is he the most important person in sports right now and obviously that man the brunch you might have made it so you might just give me a topic for next Saturday Judas Priest the most important person in sports who's more important when we think of somebody right now I'm asking the expert but you got it I'm asking Judas Priest I'm trying to think I giving anybody more bored right now I mean in my opinion you want my opinion I would say NFL is still king and I would say the biggest draw right now it's Patrick Mahomes you said importance though the boards isn't just draw importance is not just draw well look it's the most ratings the Superbowl of seven games of the NBA finals well the ratings are those Superbowl I'd imagine right and what what's a better draw Sunday but I never felt see when you say it see that's not what I was thinking when you said importance I thought okay for the longevity of a sportscaster for the health of the sport not just ratings and money and all that other stuff I don't know if there's anybody you know what if we're gonna talk about importance and health ratings and money Tiger Woods still bring it don't care eight five five two one two for CBS you try my **** on that one I think it's still tiger if we're talking to the institute the importance of their sport I think it's still tiger sorry golf guy I know you hate hearing that I'm sorry even though he's not a top twenty right now on the war no yeah even though it's not a top twenty right now in the world I don't know what they do because Patrick reed eight doing it Patrick reed is one of most unlikable characters I've ever seen in my life he doesn't but he doesn't make me want to watch golf like I'd like there there are plenty of heels in sports history make me want to watch the sports there's guys I hate that I wanna watch like I hated Steph curry I wanna watch Steph curry he gets me in I'm in on that there are guys the the Houston Astros will make people watch more baseball leagues for a little bit they will make people watch more baseball they're heels battery they doing it for me he's just not eight five five two one two for CBS coming up in twenty minutes Matt Moran joining us fansided will talk on the phone with him UP next you're gonna have to explain to me what this it factor is that dak Prescott doesn't have I.

"J. Reynolds ESPN radio ESPN app Sirius XM channel eighty eight did come down to the wire over time in fact Monday at Daytona but as drivers jockeyed for position as they headed for home Ryan Newman moved into the lead Ryan Blaney is bumper caught the back of Newman's number six car that send Newman into the wall airborne under his roof all of this in a fiery crash and then a long stretch of time where there was serious concern before NASCAR officials Steve o'donnell finally let us know Ryan Newman is being treated at Halifax Medical Center he's in serious condition but doctors have indicated his injuries are non life threatening we appreciate your thoughts and prayers and ask that you respect the privacy of Ryan and his family during this time we appreciate your patience and cooperation and will provide more information as it becomes available took a long time for us to get that news the scene of the track was frightening all the while Denny Hamlin was celebrating his second straight Daytona five hundred win repeats as champion just the fourth to do that the sixth driver to win the five hundred three times he joined Richard Petty is the only drivers to win three times in a five year span Hamlin read a lead the race for seventy nine laps including the final twelve Ryan Newman though in a lot of the prayers after crashing on that final lap it was last number two hundred nine with the overtime as long as Daytona five hundred ever ESPN's Ryan McGee was there well first of all it was it was incredible I mean the racing was amazing and had it not been for would have one Ryan Newman right now I will be working diligently on my ESPN dot com column about one of the greatest finishes in the history of the dates on top corner which is still waters this is my twenty fifth there comes three weeks and when I used to come down here in the nineties this feeling in the restoration of all man somebody might be dead if someone did happen all the time it almost could cover the sport because it happened so much indoor hard died well there were eighteen of the anniversary tomorrow in two thousand one no one in the top three NASCAR national series as dot on the race track since then the calls of the safety innovations that had to be we had to kill her to do it but they did it and there was there was a feeling in it at the racetrack tonight that I have not had in a long time at the tone and if thankfully a couple hours later that would counter with elation because because we received the news that yes Ryan Newman is injured but it is not life threatening he was saying that this was bad office for NASCAR bad outs with Danny hamlet celebrate not so you know it now's not the time for that because it's more to be more consumer Ryan Newman and his future especially with him going to the hospital but what was the feeling around the track when this new star the filled the more more to each driver once they realized the potential Verity of the edges of Ryan Newman well it just so people understand too or race ends it is a confusing all crazy environment and in the case of Denny Hamlin you know he was already doing you know burnout and donuts also full here on the hook is radio dot point in his spotter was trying his part of the person communicates with them from the roof of the racetrack do you double down Ryan Newman spotter Kantana give some information to the lever and I was standing in victory lane and standing two feet from the Gibbs and propose don't know this is Joe Gibbs of the Washington Redskins coach you're with a hall of Famer and he's Denny Hamlin policy on the race car and Joe goes walk in victory lane had no idea it would Denny Hamlin pull his tail and rejoined he had no idea the instant they knew they shut it down is there anyone who's criticizing them right now doesn't understand how all this works and so yes I know the opted for bad but I'll tell you right now had they known a one and done a job gives refused to go up on stage he refused to celebrate a until he had an update online news condition when there wasn't one he left and Denny Hamlin do a handful of interviews include Brussels for center and guess what during the interview con asking questions about making history and he said all I could think about round runners run them so anyone who's criticize anyone if the Joe Gibbs racing camps and I they just quite frankly don't know what to talk about I mean think about it though when it comes to Denny Hamlin three Daytona five hundred wins in five years I mean they're not not seen as the sap I would never say that because this is more for the racing what happened Robert Newman but you're so now we will be talking about the fact that this was historic when he was able to do hi you've been able to do this at this track like this three times in the last five years there's only three other drivers in the history of this raises recycle in nineteen fifty nine and only three other drivers who won back to back Daytona five hundred Richard Petty you heard him tell Yarborough you heard him and Starland if you are a race fan in the nineties you certainly heard Starland and so when I threw those names out of Denny Hamlin he just started laughing and he just goes your heroes he has a limit in and he said my name is oblong next to those names well it does he's done has historically he's always had a knack at this place and you know there's always the question of who's the greatest driver he's never won a championship and there's a lot of great names that are out there but the Denny Hamlin is he has a hall of fame resume whether he was a culture change or not that's all Ryan McGee programming note he'll join goal to win go this morning at eight thirty eastern time Denny Hamlin fourth Daytona five hundred win for Joe Gibbs racing three of them for handling one for.
