"I got about 20 minutes to spend together, but if it's on your mind, it'll definitely be on mine. And happy to keep you company prior to what is just about the last Jim bohannon show. I think tomorrow night is the finale as Jim, Jim retires. So I don't know that I can top that. That's for sure. But a few things we can talk about, and again, whatever's on your mind will, of course, Trump that. So I think I mentioned the other day we went out for a fast food meal. We weren't planning to, but we ran out of time. And so there was no choice. And so we figured, all right, how bad could it be? So we're talking about a couple sandwiches and a couple drinks, and it was $32. And John says to the guy, that can't be right. And sure enough, he pulls up the receipt and shows how it is. And we started to notice that that wasn't terribly unusual. So what the hell happened here? Well, with that in mind, I just read that Burger King is debuting its new $5 way meal. Actually, it's their way meal because they had a $6 meal that they have now retired, but effective today there is a 5 dollar year away meal. So what do you get? You get your choice of the new barbecue bacon whopper junior or the whopper junior plus a four piece chicken nuggets plus small fries and a small drink. All for 5 bucks. So compared to compared to what we've been paying, that's a bargain. You just have to like this stuff. But nonetheless, I thought to myself, clearly we're ordering the wrong things. Now, on a happier note for seniors or maybe not a happier note because reading that social security is going up 8.7% next year, of course, this is tied to inflation. So yeah, the bottom line is this is not good news, but nonetheless, for social security recipients, you'll see a few more bucks. And the Medicare premiums go down. There is an arcane little law that the Medicare premiums can't rise more than the rise in the social security increase, but they're not talking about percentages on that. They're talking about actual cash dollars. So usually, as 2022 is, most people, their part B premium is a 170 bucks. Well, it's going down next year to a 164. And they're based social security wage will go up 8.7%. It's not a wage actually, but you know what I mean. So I guess, I guess in terms of bucks, that's good news, but like I say, when you realize it's tied to inflation, maybe not so much. You probably heard that if you sell online that now you are required to give the provider. Whether it be PayPal or eBay or whatever you're using, documentation, such as your social security number. Yeah, because if you're making over $600 from online sales in any year, there will be sending out notices so that, of course, the ten 99 so that it'll match what the IRS will match. What you've gotten and be able to see, did you pay your money, but for a lot of people, the issue isn't so much that they'll get a ten 99. The issue is, do I really want to give these people my social security number? And I certainly can understand the hesitation there. And so if you are an online seller and you are hesitant to do that, this is the time to incorporate even an LLC and then get an EIN attack identification number four, your corporation and report it that way. But so that's what I had had financially. Yeah. End of substance, that's right. For the rest of the show, we'll just look at I mentioned Anita carrot died on Monday. ANKARA, Michael George Marchionne's Miss Ari Barbara are now it's impossible to calculate all the many consequences of September 11th to our lives. To foreign and domestic policy and to the shape of the country. But certainly the most immediate policy consequence was the United States is an invasion of Afghanistan. It began just weeks after the attacks, and that long and bloody episode has now just ended. The Taliban, which had sheltered al Qaida's leaders are fully in charge of that country once again. So what now? And on. Hi. Hi. How are you? Good, David. Thanks. You're in Qatar. Now. I'm in Qatar. Yeah. Contributor AnAnd Gopal was en route to Afghanistan when I spoke with him. Couple has reported extensively on the Taliban and very few Western journalists has spent so much time with its members. And on many of the young Taliban members who recently surged into Kabul and into cities and towns all over Afghanistan. They weren't even born when 9 11 happened. I wonder when they talk about 9 11 when they think about 9 11. This is an event that fundamentally shaped their lives. And they have no memory of it. How do they talk about it? Well, David. The remarkable thing is that most of them don't even know about 9 11, and many of them have no conception of it. Or the foggiest notion of it. Um You know, they'll say yes, there was some attacks in the USA. But they don't really link 9 11 to what's happened in their country for the last 20 years. Why do they think the United States came to Afghanistan invaded Afghanistan in the first place? You know, it's interesting. I often ask Taliban members and on top of members. Why do you think the U. S is here? And they give all sorts of reasons from, you know? We have minerals here and you know the Soviets wanted our precious metals. And now the U. S does to. You know, they just hate our way of life, which always struck me as interesting because that was The frame that we were using on 9 11 here in the U. S. Of course, it's different when you Get to the edge. You know the sort of more elite Taliban who follow the news, But I'm talking about the rank and file. Taliban really don't see their conflict or their struggles having anything to do with September 11th. Now here we are in late summer, 2021, a Taliban spokesman recently told The New York Times. We want to build a future and forget what happened in the past now having spent so much time and areas that were better controlled by the Taliban. What would you say? Is the likelihood of all that happening? Earlier this week, we saw the Taliban used force to break up a women's rights demonstration in Kabul and And while they speak of a kind of new Policy, whether it's about women or education or any number of other things. How much does the Taliban changed? Yeah, I think we should be very skeptical of these sorts of claims from the Taliban leadership. I mean, if you look at the point of view of your typical rank and file Taliban member, these are people who really never left their village or their district. They've mostly seen war and violence. And if anybody is under the age of 21, who's in the Taliban? That's all they've known is fighting in war. Now you can imagine. From their perspective. There's a number of family members have been killed. There's friends and comrades have been killed, and what they're thirsting for is revenge. First of all, Secondly, from their perspective, they say, we won this war We've marched into Kabul. We took this out, right? We don't need to concede anything to anybody. And so from that milieu, there's really a sense that, uh, the Taliban should be trying to return to the 19 nineties and reinstate that government. I was there in the 19 nineties without Sharing power without making any concessions towards women's rights. And I'm afraid that that probably that element is the majority of the movement. There's a minority of the movement who say all the right things who are a little bit more polished, who spent time outside the country but they don't really have the power on the ground. In other words, these were the people that spend time in, you know the Ritz Carlton's of the world making agreements and having diplomatic meetings with with all kinds of, uh, Western countries, But the people on the ground who are going to make the policy are Not much different. Well, I'm literally right now. You know, it's Carlton waiting to interview top officials. So yes, in Doha. So exactly these are people. I mean, if I was thinking as I was walking through the corridors of this hotel today, if Any Taliban members on the ground, and Helmand could see the complete splendor that these their officials are living under. You know, you'd wonder if the movement would even hold together. The Taliban just named a number of people to top government posts and among them The head of the Haqqani network, was named acting minister of Interior. What do you read into these kinds of appointments? Well, I think you know, I was looking at the ministry and the list of Cabinet members, and what's striking about them is that almost every single one had held the position in the 19 nineties government..

African Methodist Episcopal Church founded - April 9, 1816

"The day was April ninth eighteen sixteen. The African Methodist Episcopal Church was founded the Ame. Church as it's known was the first organized denomination and the US to be formed by black people. The AME church has its roots in the Free African society an organization that provided aid to newly freed black people in the US. Preachers Richard Allen and Absalom Jones as well as other people in Philadelphia forms organization in the seventeen eighty s facing discrimination. At Saint George's Methodist Episcopal Church in Philadelphia. A group of black congregants decided to leave the church. Most of them wanted to affiliate with the Protestant Episcopal Church since they did not want to align with the methodist who persecuted them so the Free African society opened the Saint. Thomas African Episcopal Church with Jones as the head but Allen led a small group of people who wanted to remain this in seventeen ninety four the BETHEL African Methodist Episcopal. Church was dedicated into service in seventeen ninety. Nine Bishop Francis Asbury of the Methodist Episcopal Church ordained Richard Alan. As minister BETHEL's Allan. White Methodist leaders develop the founding document of BETHEL Ame but as membership in the church grew so did tensions between the black people in the church in white authorities. The ladder attempted to limit. Bethel's independence doing things like threatening to prevent her to meetings. They still considered to be an entity that existed within Saint George's and therefore subject to its authority but Alan continued to advocate for African methodist independence. Even as white methodist escalated the tactics that they use to oppose the churches authorities. He turned to an attorney who advised him to add an African supplement to churches founding document. This supplement said that. Bethel's trustees rather than the methodist conference control the Church's property. It also says that if the pastor at Saint George's did not fulfil his preaching and Sacramento obligations. The trustees would call on someone else. On top of Allen's efforts BETHEL members rejected the actions of Saint George's ministers who attempted to assert their authority by eighteen sixteen BETHEL had around fourteen hundred members in the beginning of that year the validity of Allen's African supplement was challenged in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Alan emerged victorious in the case with a court. Affirming BETHEL's independence and Allen's right to self-determination as a pastor James Champion a minister at Bethel Daniel Coker obliged methods in Baltimore wrote a treatise about the rise of African methodism with and Allen encouraged their congregations to form a denomination April ninth eighteen sixteen Allen and coker called it black methodist to meet in Philadelphia. Coker was elected the first bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church but coker either declined the position or resigned and soon Alan was consecrated as the first bishop of the church as more black preachers and parisioners grew tired of dealing with racism and the Methodist Episcopal Church. They withdrew to align with the African methodist by the eighteen fifties. The denomination had reached California and after the civil war and reconstruction years membership in the Ame.
