Elon Musk Makes Apple Blink in Pursuit of Free Speech
"Back and glad to be joined by John schweppe of the American principles project who I love to talk to when we're talking about anything online and speech related. And John, I gotta tell you, man, I'm having a lot of fun with Elon kicking over all the conference tables, wrecking people's rice bowls, just basically playing the disruptor that he likes to, but I think in a very effective way, what's your take? Yeah, no, we've been talking about this for months. Once he finally took over, was he actually going to follow through on this? And you know there are some worrying things early when he was talking about conversations with the ADL and all these other groups. But he's been wonderful. And you know, I think obviously he has his limits. He's not truly a free speech absolutist. He doesn't want Alex Jones on the platform. You know, there's things like that. But really, he sees that Twitter interfered in the 2020 election. He said as much. And he wants to make sure that that doesn't happen again. And I think it's great. And so conservatives should be pretty happy with this. The hope is that this will actually affect some of the other platforms and really strengthen free speech online without any government involvement, which would be pretty cool. And that's the whole point. We are conservatives we don't want to have to use the government, but we had monopolies, and we had a use of those monopolies to advance a partisan political agenda in a way that was fundamentally damaging our constitutional republic. And now there's a crack in the dam. And I think you're right. The idea he went to Apple. And he had a showdown with Tim Cook. And Timmy back down.
Abdu Murray Describes His Religious Upbringing
"Raised in Detroit when you raised as an American growing up in Michigan, but in a solidly Shia home. Yeah, absolutely. So is she at home? And in the Detroit area, there's a very strong, very heavy Muslim population there as well. So that was around me, but we ended up growing up. I ended up growing up in a back then and not terribly diverse neighborhood. We were sort of the dollop of olive oil on the pot of rice as it were. But now you go now and it's wonderful that the diversity there's great and especially for the menu options. It's fantastic in that city, but I grew up thinking Islam is true, a very proud of that fact. And got myself educated in enough ways in which to propagate Islam. That's true. And then come back, Christianity, as false for a number of reasons. Now, I just want to say, because I think it's important for people to understand at least for me to understand, when somebody says, you know, I was raised in a Muslim home. I was raised in a Christian home. That might mean nothing. In other words, I was raised in a Greek Orthodox home. But it was really a Greek home. My mother was German. I always joke around if you raised by a Greek and a German, you're raised Greek. But the point is for a lot of people, their faith is mostly cultural. And I know many, many Muslims in New York that I mix with. They're not really serious about the Muslim faith. They identify as Muslim the way an Irish guy says, well, I'm Catholic, but I only go three times a year. So it's mainly a cultural thing. And they're not really taking the fates seriously. So I know, you know, cab drivers sometimes you get the impression. This guy is serious about his Muslim faith. Other times they start talking about their kids and whatever. And you get the impression that they're just technically Muslim in the way that a lot of people say, you know, I'm this from that. But it's kind of like a tribal identity versus an ideological theological identity, but so for you, even using both. Well, it was both, but you're saying that you were raised in a home that was serious about the Muslim faith. It wasn't just a cultural thing. Right.
Fundamentals Matter When It Comes to Elections
"Where I'm going to go back to probably the biggest issue that we've talked about on this podcast. Many times, and that is the fundamentals matter. Fundamentals matter when it comes to rice Canada's matter and how Canada's run matters. Walker is an example here Warnock is an example here. Both of them are flawed Candice in the sense that the public in polling didn't trust them. They're 5 unfavor numbers were upside down. And it does appear, though, that walker had a little bit more of a tug on that issue both going down because you could see the breakdown that Kemp out performed walker significantly almost four points or more in this election cycle with upwards of almost a 100,000, 200,000 most depending on where we're at right now. What does that mean? It means that people did not want to vote for Brian Kemp, maybe because of how he handled the past four years as governor, the elections, the pandemic, everything else. And for whatever reason, the refine Republicans could not vote for or did not vote for Herschel Walker. I saw a lot of signs yesterday that says that people were going to be voting for Brian camper and others on the republic ticket, but they simply left the saying it rice off. So again, we'll see what happens right now. Right now currently as we speak here early on a Wednesday morning, the Republican and Democrat in Georgia looked to be headed to a runoff, although there is room right now because Warnock is actually ahead by about 30,000 votes. There is some room that if the numbers broke very, very well for Warnock, he could win without a runoff. That would be, I think, amazing story devastating for Senate hopefuls in Georgia. But it is still there. That means
Doug's Hot Takes From Election Night
"Just did not appear. Some did. I mean, I think if you look at let's go over what did seem to pan out as we thought it would. Except for Pennsylvania, which we always thought was a, again, was a possibility that was a difficult rice queen federman and Oz, that does appear federman has won that race. So out of the 5 that we had to hold, we lost one. We all Pennsylvania, which means as you know from the podcast and we've always talked about that you have to now pick up two for Republicans to take control. Right now, I'm looking for the one because right now we've not seen that. Now, Arizona is still very much coming in. These numbers are tightening up out there. Arizona, just like in the last lesson in 2020 will be one in which we're going to have to wait several days for. But masters is running significantly behind Kelly in that race and Lake is running better than masters. So again, they're both down, Carrie Lake and Blake masters are both down to the Democrats Hobbes and Kelly, but the numbers have been coming in overnight a lot more Republican than they were in the early votes, which were decidedly Democrat.
Anthony D'Esposito: Kathleen Rice Embraces Criminals, Not Lock Them Up
"Nobody understands better The degrading public safety situation both on Long Island and in New York City better than you I don't know when you were on Anthony I got on in 95 would probably like the same cohort roughly but remember broken windows where we locked up people for like the little stuff like minor assaults and things and you took the bad guys off the street It's the exact opposite now They let everybody out for anything even the serious stuff and crimes running wild Absolutely I mean I remember the days where you'd stop somebody for urinating in public or a bike on the sidewalk and that led to a loaded gun But it's the world is upside down And instead of focusing on what we should be which is taking criminals off the street prosecuting them and keeping them in jail where embracing them or coddling them and we're giving them baseball tickets to return to court It's absolutely ridiculous And listen my opponent knows knows what the issues are You know it's the people in the fourth congressional district of focused on cost of living They're focused on inflation and they're focused on crime And instead of trying to understand that she instead is attacking my career as an NYPD detective she has that liberal rig to daily news writing stories from the on a regular basis The daily news It's a clown pickup Yeah They're now attacking me about lawsuits that I had as an active detective over 600 arrests when I retired And I had I think $80,000 in settlements And they don't realize that sometimes that's just doing real police work And the courts especially in the city often settle with these perpetrators just to get things off their plate But that's what she focused on She wants to focus on things in my career instead of the fact that I've spent my adult life in the public safety world whether it was as a fire chief in the community that I grew up in an island park or as a New York City detective

Creating the Leftist Encounter
"I was pulled over by a police officer late at night driving to a friend's house and for me at the time this was a nightmare. I had grown up in a very left leaning household as many of you know. And I was very much indoctrinated with the idea that police officers were racist, not just one of them, but all of them, the entire system was pitted against black people, and for those of you who don't know me, I happen to be biracial. So I grew up with the stories of tamir rice, philando Castile, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, and even though these were all black men who had unfortunately lost their lives to police officers or to a police encounter, I was convinced that had I ever been pulled over by a police officer that encounter was not going to go well. And of course, I went through a leftist training of what to do when police officers pull you over. Yes, sir, no, sir, turn your phone camera on to make sure you get the encounter on film, put your hands on ten and two, just be respectful and hope that nothing happens. And of course, in my mind, something was going to happen regardless of what I did. I could be an upstanding citizen. I could follow every rule in the book, but because I was a half black individual, this police was going to target me. Of course, in retrospect, this sounds totally irrational. But you have to put yourself in the mind of somebody who's grown up with these stories and just has this view of police officers and that profession. So
Doug Unpacks the Latest on the Georgia Senate Race
"Leaves us with probably the most interesting, probably the most frustrating the most, whatever you want to call it. Attempt to pick up a seat and as an a state of Georgia. The everything is went on in this race. Herschel Walker has been attacked and attacked and attacked and attacked and attacked over and over and over again multiple millions of dollars being importing these tax ranging from his business dealings, ranging from his family, ranging from, you know, is the latest updates and just came out whether, you know, he encouraged his then girlfriend to get an abortion paid for the abortion. You know, these were all questions that, again, have now dogged the walker campaign through this cyclist instead of staying on message with what they are trying to get out. They've now had to go back and deal with the fallout from these reports that he encouraged his former girlfriend to take to have an abortion. He paid for the abortions and get well card. Chaos calls by his son, Christian walker in this race is one that is also a has caused some concern. Now, for those of us in Georgia who've watched this race consistently, we've watched it over time. Again, there was a lot of concern that walker was not going to be ready. For this race because he didn't engage in the primary is polling rightfully showed that he was going to win. He didn't really need to spend resources. But by not dealing with questions, not taking questions, not preparing self equations. It is opened this race up and walker seemed to having to deal with these on the fly and with the candidate that is a time struggles to answer the questions that have been given. All that said, we're a week in to this news cycle in which these news broke about the former girlfriend in the abortions. And numbers in Georgia just frankly have not changed. There's not been a poll in the last few days. It may have captured a multi day poll. We probably seen that here shortly. But at this point in time, the spot polls and others have shown this to be the rice not moving still. That
This North Carolina Senate Race Is Closer Than You Can Imagine
"Moving down the my app a little bit. North Carolina. This has become the one and I think I've said it here on the podcast. I've definitely said it in radio show and other news that North Carolina from me was and I said this back in July and August. I said, when the polling starts to come in and this Beasley bug rice down in North Carolina, it's going to be far closer than anybody imagines. It's going to be very close. And it's going to be definitely the margin of era and people are going to fly under the radar and people are going to say, oh my, what's happening? Well, that's exactly what's happening right now. This race in North Carolina is bud is up by one little over one, most of the Poland have had this thing trending three to one to a tie here over the last month. Basically, sherry Beasley actually, this is one thing I wanted to emphasize. She just announced her fundraising total of 13.3 million. That's number four in the country of these other Senate races that I've been talking about. That's a lot of money in North Carolina media markets. It's a lot of money to make up, bud, has raised money, but not to that level. Again, folks, this is a flippable seat for Democrats if they're wanting to flip this, but ran a solid campaign throughout this cycle. He's been a little quiet. He's not, it's not been a flashy race by any means. They have just had their, I think, one and only debate. This one is going to be a time which Republicans have got to come out. It is also another race in which Republicans struggled to hand to deal with a primary, which again, that's part of life, that's part of what should be an electoral politics, not upset that there was a primary, but you had folks who like Mark walker and others who, you know, now their people have to get behind Ted, bud or cherry Beasley, will hold our oil part of the possibility of flipping this seat.
Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson: An Important Senate Race in North Carolina
"You have a hot race there for the United States Senate North Carolina the Ted bud race What's your feelings there You know this is a race sir that's really kind of gone under the radar screen I mean we hear a lot about lax salt and Doctor Oz and Herschel Walker but you got to hop on there in North Carolina You're feeling almost got their finger on the pulse of North Carolina politics like you Oh yeah this is right This rice is hot as fire We just had debate Ted was just in the debate against the re Beasley He did very well She proved to everybody that she is a 100% Joe Biden all the way And folks in North Carolina I believe they know that if they elect her and send her to Washington D.C. it's going to be more to say open borders terribly economy and our enemies being emboldened like never before Folks here in North Carolina want to change And so we believe they're going to vote down Cherie Beasley and send care bud to Washington D.C. I believe North Carolina is going to do the right thing there
Sony Pictures Says Woke 'Tarzan' Is on Its Way
"So here comes a story that we've seen so many times lately, and I'm mad at myself for not saying this beforehand, so Sony Pictures. Apparently has big plans for the iconic character of Tarzan. After the studio picks up the screen rights to the screen legend from Edgar Rice Burroughs estate, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony is planning a complete overhaul of Tarzan, their plans are being described as a total reinvention of the character and the intellectual property. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? You have to be, if you live in these times, you know, you know what's going to happen here without even me saying it. The studio is reportedly looking to bring the character of Tarzan to a place for audiences in this time and space of the 21st century. Please there's no other information. They have no producer on board, no directors, no stars, no filmmakers, et cetera, so it's just the fact that they got the property. Now, most of us know the story of Tarzan, it's pretty well known by this point, here it is anyway for anyone who has perhaps been living in a cave and just woke up from a coma. So Edgar Rice Burroughs creates this novel, Tarzan of the apes back in, I think, 1910 or 1912, ties in as the son of a British lord and a lady who find themselves marooned, his mother dies when he's just an infant, his father's killed by the leader of an ape tribe, so tajin is adopted by one of the apes cala. And he becomes one of them, he learns to climb, hunt, swing from branches, due to thing. And he survives with the jungle as a wild animal. And during his teenage years, he meets a young woman named Jane Porter who's also become stranded in the jungle. And Jane teaches Tarzan and he's falling in love. She teaches him about things and eventually she teaches him how to rediscover his human identity. Well, I see a problem right away. Isn't this cultural appropriation against apes? And isn't this a bit of a white savior story? What was I thinking back then?

The Reason Joe Biden Used Evil, Red Lighting in His Speech
"Numbers are sort of all over the place for the Republicans, but regardless the Republicans are going to retake the House of Representatives, barring some sort of a cancellation of the elections. And that is something we need to be very wary about. Joe Biden and the Biden administration had been determined over the past, well, a month or so of really trying to foment or trigger or instigate some sort of a national incident. And that's why Joe Biden, by the way, came out at independence hall, gave that horrific address from the Gates of hell, the blood red lighting, the marines being forced to stand in the background. There was a reason for that. And the reason is that the Biden administration and this is really not Joe Biden. He's just the porridge for brain's mouthpiece of this. The real people behind the scenes are Barack Obama and Susan Rice. They're the ones that are pulling the strings here. This has their fingerprints all over it. And they're hoping something is triggered in the maga community. They want maga out on the streets, shooting things up, burning things down, causing mayhem to a point where they would have to either postpone or cancel the elections or God forbid have to declare martial law. That's what they're wanting. I don't think that's going to happen.
Jesse Watters: Joe Biden Has His Own Deplorable Moment Today
"Now, I don't know what a semi fascist is, I suppose, is that partially better than being a full fledged fascist? So you're not exactly Mussolini, you're Mussolini's baby brother. What are you if you're semi fascist? He doesn't know he is parroting something that Susan Rice told him to say. He was Jesse watters talking about Biden's own deplorables moment May every man and woman in America understand that the president of the United States is reduced to calling you a fascist because he doesn't like your politics. Here was Jesse on Fox News. Joe Biden had his own deplorable moment today when he came out and called the entire mega movement fascists saying this. What we're seeing now is the beginning or the death knell of an extreme maga philosophy. It's not just Trump. It's the entire philosophy that underpins the, I'm going to say something. It's like semi fascism. 74 million people voted for Trump. They're all fascists, according to Joe Biden. That's not going to help. In the midterms. Well, we'll see. I mean, will Americans reject their manipulation? Are Americans on to the scheme of pretending that we're in the midst still of a national emergency over COVID and that's the pretense? For trying to cancel student debt and saddling the American taxpayer with billions of billions of dollars,
"rice " Discussed on Midlife Mastery

Yeah well you can probably tell by the british accent that i'm no in the states recruiting with with with you in passing. Say i'm from the k. I'm i'm in midlife. Nutritious their idea where quite a load of different hats delay to swan being a food writer. Feed-in health writer and i'm currently in singapore. Which is another long story show. We'll get round to telling you. Say like i said when he hats i started out working as a management consultant for accenture. Way back when i left university in the early nineties. That was fairly short-lived and the corporate life didn't really seek me too. Well saying my husband. And i decided to add that thing. That people say you shouldn't do which is continual hopi into your business and say we set up a ski come and that was late ninety s. And that's what she's still going strong so my bread and butter really is from the travel industry from the ski company. But i i'm grim both in that day my husband runs that and that's been kind of challenging as you can imagine in the pandemic running a travel company. Say that could be a whole different po council together. And what else have i done. I've been retrained to be a somali. A i went back to school then. Studied for three years Line and my whole plan was to be a wine buyer and write about wine ceo central format path but as we all know in midlife things can get derailed from time to time said oh my next reinvention was as a healthy dreitzer say does a few twiss intense in the tail but would on here to talk about..
"rice " Discussed on Local Mouthful
"What well we had a reason Patriot coffee talk. And we were talking about a recipe that was super popular the world over but we are community doesn't really didn't really love it and someone made the great point that it's because we are self selecting group of people that cook a lot and so i think even though you are cooking less for yourself compared to your pre kid pre pandemic new like. I think you're still cooking so much more than someone who is not into cooking and a rice fritter even of to you seems very obvious. Intuitive easy not a big deal for a lot of people. That's like a big undertaking. And you know that's why if you've ever stood in line in the grocery store behind somebody with kids a lot of times. Their car is full of like boxed finger food you know yeah so i think that might be one of the reasons but among people like. I don't know trying to make it. A trend putting on tic tac. Are you talk. Now i am. I haven't posted anything yet but cross that threshold but yeah there so. It was really just one of those things that i thought. Have i not done this before. This is magic. This is brilliant. You know it's like you can use any cheese. You've got that your kindle eat You know and these would also if you're cooking for like a party and it seems like it's a relative of like an rn. Cini like a result at risotto. Paul you know because it's like you're taking a rice in your Purposing it adding cheese but you could make them for like a cocktail party like when those things come back teeny tiny. Little rice fritters puts Some sort of chutney. On top like these could be fancy. They can really go high end. But i was wondering he's served it with a dip. I served it with the vegetable enhanced. Ketchup from heinz. I didn't what is back. Hines makes a catch up. That has like butternut squash low just to get extra yeah vegetable nutrition. My guys go crazy for catch up. So i figured why not give them the catch up with a little bit more nutrition. Does it taste the same to you. It is totally the same totally. The same is also a little bit lower in sugar. That's a new product for me. That i've never heard of It was a giant. I'd never seen it before. But you know it's now part of our regular grocery shopping list because why not why not try to get a little bit more vegetable and you could also prompt. I bet these would freeze well. You could make it convenient food for yourself definitely could make these in advance and then yeah because like four of them feeds is kinda dinner center point for the guys Cool i like it. I would definitely. I mean vegan is one i would eat one sounds i. Yeah sounds possible But anyway i think that that's great inspiration for anyone who likes finger food whether you are a tiny person. Have tiny people or just like to eat so. I did ask you to make a pretty kid unfriendly recipe this week. I guess so we not one that yeah you want to describe this new segment. We're going to try to do periodically for everyone sure so. We decided one of the fun things to add in this sort of new new world. Order is Probably every episode but Couple times a month at least We will cook the same thing. Follow the same recipe and then talk about it because it's always interesting to hear two different takes on the same thing. Find out how we changed up. So i'm yeah you wanna tell them about the recipe. Sure this one. I saw on the website of the food. Blog walks of life which i just really love for chinese inspired and chinese restaurant and authentic chinese inspired recipes. The family is chinese. They've owned a lot of restaurants but not at not every recipe on. The site is chinese and certainly not everyone is authentic quote unquote but This wants to be mainly for its seasonality. Its main ingredients are eggplant. They calls for the long purple sometimes called japanese eggplant and String beans which are in abundance at farmers markets everywhere and i love vegetables star fry so it looks pretty simple to as a recipe. I think he was only like five or six ingredients So i thought that we would maybe do. It has smari saga. If anybody else in house would eat it. And she said no. She had me to cook it for herself. So that's what we did. And i guess we should talk. The the recipe is written thusly you Add some oil to a walk or a skillet. You cook your eggplant or you cut your plant into batons your green beans into say two or three inch pieces. And then you basically shallow. Fry each ingredients separately. And then you remove all but one tablespoon of the oil you add a mixture of garlic ginger and chili new. Stir fry that. And then you return your vegetables to the pan and then you add the simplest sauce which is like i think it's one tablespoon oyster sauce two teaspoons soy sauce and some white pepper. And then you sorta like glades your stuff in that and then serve it over brown rice white rice. No rice So what what happened with you did it. Did you follow the recipe as as it's outlined or did you take any..

"We've got a kid friendly fritter a recipe to recommend and a review of a book fiber fueled. So let's get into it. Tell me about your fritters mesa. Okay so i was one night. I was looking at my refrigerator. Trying to figure out what to make for my toddler for dinner. And i had leftover rice. And i have certainly made them fried rice before and that is typically my default for leftover rice but they had been a little bit more resistant to at the last time i had made it. It's there they wanna feed themselves more and so my focus has really been on creating things for them but they convict pickup and feed themselves and not have to be involved with the You know the spooning food into their mouths and so i thought Race fritters head. Does anybody make rice federal. I don't think i've ever had like a rice fritter or a pancake before. But i thought these must exist so i went online and looked around. And yes they do. It is not something that i had invented. You know out of whole cloth but I looked around. And i took some inspiration from several sources and really just cobbled together. What has turned into a really useful Leftover dinner time thing so you start with a couple of cups of cooked rice. It can be brown rice white rice. Whatever you have and Then you beat a couple of eggs You add some shredded cheese. Now this is not like a low fat healthy recipe for adults but it totally for kids especially healthy for kids because they need those Healthy fats their brain development. And you know you wanna get good calories into them because they may not eat a lot of volume and so getting Especially use brown rice getting the fiber into them Getting some calcium from cheese. These are all useful things. And so i also add some really finally chopped scallions for flavor and My kids have not yet. resisted having little flexible green things in their food. And hopefully. i'm just gonna keep doing that in the hopes that they don't you know i figure if it's always in there and they don't know that food doesn't have little flecks of green then they won't resist it and so And i've also read that. Scallions are surprisingly good for you like they have a lot of nutrients in them in figure taking those into the rice fritters increases their nutrient density which is great. And then i use a couple of tablespoons of flour to hold it all together a little bit of Salt though not too much especially if you're using a salty cheese and If you think your kids like it Some black pepper. And so i just cook these unconservative third of a cup portions. I have a scooper that does about a third of a cup in a nonstick skill. That didn't have to use much oil because there's plenty of Fat coming off the cheese and so You just brown them on each side. We just want them to be cooked through. And then that's it and my guys loved them. Honestly i eight one and they were so good. I was like this is a dangerous food for me because it's like it hits all of those You know it's salty and savory and a little bit crunchy and rice which is a flavor i love and so they taste great for adults but they were a big hit for kids and I can see really using using it as a formula to integrate other things. You could toxin grated carrot in there Or diced zucchini or shredded zucchini would be invisible. Which would be a good one Or even like dot com radishes. Something like that if they don't resist that kind of You know cruciferous radish. She flavor but they were easy. They were good the leftovers were good that put them in the toaster oven and toasted them up to reheat them and they were still really good and went over well so it is definitely one. That's going to be part of my regular Feeding kids rotation I have a quick question. And i also want to tell our listeners is. I'm sorry i missed it. Did you use brown rice. I use brown rice but you could use either but there are issues with brown rice sometimes in like with kids mercury. See you've got to be a little bit careful but I don't feed them rice every day. So i figure it's did you. And what i wanted to say is the reason i blanked on that is because we. This is our first time recording in our new Remote recording home which we switched to riverside a side note. Thank you to betsy of the dinner sisters. Who told me that harron. Kate have been using it for a while. And they like it. But i'm like looking at all the bells and whistles back here and that's why it's based on your rice type but brown i think brown rice is super beneficial for kids. This is. I don't have kids as you all know but like i've learned recently. That constipation is like a nightmare. Problem for a lot of children So brown rice is so fiber rich. We're gonna talk more about fiber later in the episode. But i have been trying to eat more brown rice because of that Yeah that's like super flexible though like you can put anything in your crisper in there. Yeah no it was great. You can do broccoli They they were just really good and really easy. And i'm surprised it's like it's surprises me. That this isn't part of like the regular Cooking for kids vernacular like why don't we. Why aren't we talking about. Rice fritters rice pancakes. More often. because so easy you. I know numbers of people who often had leftover rice around like why this not more commonly thought of i dunno. I.

"I don't know what the word coefficient means and no. It's not as big as not just you. Yeah technically use it to mean like thing like a variable like a like a sauce deficient. Okay hold on ever that from other people too. It's not just you by the way like actual science people hit me up okay. Coefficient is a numerical or constant quantity place before and multiplying the variable in algebraic expression. Yes so i believe in this algebraic expression of takeout chinese food you need a consistent level or i would call a saucy coefficient to ride out the entire meal was so say you need a sauces level of. I know like three parts per thousand. I have like a fifth grade math education. You're not helping. All i'm saying is if i have saucier maine's off fried rice works better for me. "I often have a lot of leftover rice. That's one thing that I can do to enhance, you know, day old or 2 day-old rice to make to make a lunch out of it, 100% fried rice. Q, Amano is a chicago-based chef and cookbook. Author has written a bunch of good books, including the adventures of fat rice. He's going to help to demystify fried rice today. Good Friday. One of the keys to good fried rice says Q, is that you're using this old kind of languishing rice. You don't want it to be fresh a couple of days old as ideal. So, you know, you're frying, like whatever you're putting in a Chevy. Yeah, like shrimp or chicken, or, or various vegetables, and your kind of cooking each component, taking it out of the pan or the lock, setting it to the side. And and then kind of finishing with, you know, wipe the pan out. Put some fresh oil in and and then fry that rice and it's truly fried rice, you know, crumble it into the, into the pan toss it around. And let each individual grain of rice, cook and add, add the other stuff and seasoning back in, and it's just nice white fluffy. Each. Each grain should be relatively distinct. It's just such a clean, a better way to do it. And let me say clean. I mean, like, each flavor in there is is distinct versus versus. Like we just Hammer the hell out of a bunch of Gloppy Raja. Import a bunch of soy sauce. Now, here's this weird kind of brown brown Mass after I quote unquote, fried rice. So that was my advice. For leftover rice. What kind of oil do you use? Like, I, I would start with canola oil if I didn't have that laying around peanut oil, is great to grapeseed. Oil is great to all of the Unfaithful on scented oils. But look, I've made fried rice with with olive oil, cuz that's what I have sitting around and I'm perfectly okay, with that. If I had my druthers, just, like a peanut oil or Canola or just plain vegetable oil, and are you finishing it with any sauces or vinegars or anything? Yeah. So I always, I mean, kind of depends on the mood or whatever your kind of flavoring it to a degree with some soy sauce. Perhaps, maybe not be really seasoning it with salt. So it's cleaner, you know, you're not adding wage. Lot of moisture back into the dish, always use a bit of like rice rice vinegar or whatever I have around. And maybe it's such a sesame oil to to sent it off. Maybe some fish sauce. That's the, that's the way I'm going. And again, like, maybe soy sauce, but it's not soy sauce isn't really, the crutch, you know, to make it salty and flavorful in order to the other day. I took a tin of smoked mackerel. I like keeping tons of fish around sardines and anchovies trout Pub or whatever. And I put that on, two-day-old fried rice. We it was so good. Thank you Mano. His latest comic book cookbook in collaboration with Sarah Beacon, is called to make dumplings. I put a link to it in our show notes. Thank you for listening.

"Just aren't big enough to worry about. If you're looking for a more nutritious kind of rice you might also want to consider adding wild rice to the mix once in a while. I didn't mention it earlier because although it is a close botanical relative of rice. Both of these are types of grasses. Wild rice is really a different thing altogether and it can be a bit of an acquired taste then again. That's how a lot of people feel about brown rice but wild rice grains have a chewier outer sheath with a tender inner grain. That has a slightly vegetal taste to me it sort of halfway between a starch and a vegetable. But if you've never tried it you might want to check it out. Compared to brown rice wild rises higher in protein and lower in carbohydrates and that means that it does have a lower glycemic load. it's also higher in vitamin a. And folic acid but not quite as high in minerals and even though it's quite low in total fat wild rice is also a decent source of omega threes. And it has a great omega three to omega six ratio. Something that. I've talked about in previous episodes so for those who like to mix things up a bit wild rice or black rice or red. "I'm your host. Monica reindel there are at least a dozen different types of rice to choose from at the grocery store. You'll see long grain short-grain white brown buzz mati instant converted and you've probably wondered at some point which is the healthiest choice. And that's what we're going to talk about today. There are some fairly big differences between the various kinds of rice in terms of their cooking times and the texture of the cooked rice. So the first thing you need to know is if you're cooking from a recipe. It's pretty important to pay attention to what kind of rice the recipe calls for. Substituting different kinds of rice can really change how the recipe turns out and not always in a good way. Here are some of the different types of rice you're likely to encounter short grain rice is very starchy and cooks up. Soft and sticky. It's used in things like sushi. Paige and risotto. Long grain. rice contains less start so the cooked grains are drier and more separate. It's often used in pilaf or dishes with a lot of sauce medium grain as you might expect is somewhere in between now. Jasmine and buzz. Mahdi are both varieties that have been cultivated to bring out distinctive flavor profiles and these often turn up in indian and asian food. Now all of those different types of rice are available as either white or brown rice and in each case brown is the whole grain version whereas white rice has been milled to remove the germ and the brand brown. Rice is lot chewier and heartier than white rice and it takes about twice as long to cook. But we're not done yet. You'll also find varieties of whole grain rice that aren't brown but rather red purple or black and these are special varieties of rice that are high in pigments called anthocyanins. And then finally you can also buy instant or converted rice and both of these have been partially cooked and then dehydrated. So if you're using one of these types of pre processed rice it's important to follow the preparation instructions on the package in the show notes. I've included a link to an article that talks more about the culinary properties and the uses of all these different kinds of rice. And you'll find that on our website at quick and dirty tips dot com. But right now let's talk about the nutritional aspects of these different kinds of rice because brown rice retains both germ and the brand parts of the grain. It's higher in magnesium and other minerals. It also has more fiber. For example a half cup of white mongering grain rice contains less than one gram of fiber whereas a half cup of brown. Rice contains one and a half grams of fiber. But just as a point of reference remember. You're shooting for between twenty five and thirty grams of.
