"Into this special edition of football. The podcast, exclusive interview with the part of Pepe on fascist salasar alongside Berkeley's Gomez herk, this was actually a UN Mauricio Pedro actually, you got to sit down with heavyweight like 48 hours, I think after it was made official that he was going to Augsburg for $20 million. 48 hours after the $20 million wonderboy was officially going to lab on this Liga. It was enjoyable. You were not there, and that wasn't the enjoyable part, obviously, but it was an enjoyable talk with Ricardo pepi, talked all things. And this guy, this kid, he certainly not lacking confidence. I'll tell you that much. That's right. You guys covered a lot of ground, not just his arrival, and the Bundesliga, but national team stuff as well. So without further ado, here's the boys chat with the pride of El Paso, Texas. Ricardo peppy. Ricardo pepi, the kid from El Paso, Texas, not too long ago you were playing in the U.S. sell my man now a $20 million reported transfer fee. Highest for a homegrown club record second highest in Major League Soccer. How does it feel? It feels great, man, you know, I just chose that I've been working, you know, and things like that. And I've been it's always been a dream of mine to play in Europe, and I feel like, you know, we accomplished one step, but we still got a lot of steps and a bright future ahead of us. Regardless, how would you describe the past 72 hours of your live, the moment you had to take the trip to Germany? Take your physical and then making it official. What has it been like for you and your family this best days? No, honestly, it's been crazy, you know, it's been crazy because once we found out that there was a team interesting and it was Oxford, you know, we didn't know when I was going to leave, you know, so all of a sudden, they told us you know that we went to there on the second and I tell my family, I taught my parents and they're like, oh, wow, that's a little too soon. So, you know, it was a little too fast for them, but we're happy to be here and obviously with the physical generating everything came out good and now we're training with the team frustrating what we got done today. So I'm very excited to see what the future brings for me. But it got it. We heard a lot of teens being reported. Wolfsburg, there were a few teams in Premier League, wolves, one of them, another unnamed team. Why Augsburg? Why did you choose them? I feel like Osborne gave me the confidence from the first from the first step. You know, even before mentioning numbers, anything like that, they talked to me on the phone and you know they always gave me the confidence. They always told me that, you know, they highly rated me and things like that, so you know that made me feel made me feel good about them and making me feel good about myself. So, you know, ever since they talk to me, I felt comfortable with them. And given the confidence to the player, I feel like as a key aspect and soccer. Has it synced in already for you, the moment you just say you finish your first training session, the moment you are in the locker room taking a look around your partner club and that was obviously a dream of yours as a thinking already. No, honestly, it hasn't, you know, it's been the second day that I've been around with my teammates, and you know, still trying to get comfortable around some of them, I feel like I've had a few communication with them. So still trying to get comfortable and get used to, obviously, the whole locker room, but little by little is getting a little bit more comfortable and it's sinking in a little bit more. What type of conversations that you have with Greg berhalter, the U.S. men's national coach about this move to osberg and the Bundesliga? No, you know, I've always talked to Greg about anything that I've had to talk about about him and he always told me to just go to the team. I think I'm going to play the most, you know, it's so important that I keep playing that I keep developing as a player, especially with the World Cup coming up. So it was important for me to get opportunities and be able to go as a player and take that next step. It's 2022. It's a World Cup year. How big of a factor was that in your decision that in 11 months, most likely the U.S. national team will be playing in Qatar, the World Cup, how big of a factor was that in making your decision? I was huge. It was huge, you know, I just, I feel like most of my decision came to that point. You know, it was a decision that had to be made with a team that I knew I was going to get opportunity. I couldn't go to a team that I wasn't going to be playing because obviously it's a World Cup year and you want to be at your best for that year and I want to be able to go compete and play in that world. So Oxford, I feel like they're going to give me the opportunities and I just got to show them that. Breath it in that I work hard for the team and you know I feel like they're going to put their trust in me and it's going to be all good. Osbourne is putting your trust their trust in you, excuse me, $20 million. They're midway through the campaign right now. Sit in 15th and the Bundesliga only 17 goals scored in 17 games and they turned to an 18 year old kid with very little, I guess pedigree, if you will. Used to have a long career ahead of you. It's a calculated risk by them, but it's also a calculated risk by you. Have you thought about what would happen if the team is relegated? No, I feel like you know that that hasn't been a thought of mine because I'm here to I'm here to help the team and you know we're not thinking about relegation or not. I think we got to think ahead of. We just got a thing day by day about the next game and the next game is Saturday. So we're not really thinking about that. We're not really focused on that, but on the next day. Have you had a chance to talk to you manager? What have you heard from him in terms of what are the expectations from Ricardo Pepe? Because as Turk said, when you are a transfer fee record for a club, expectations are obviously really high, but what have you heard from your manager so far? Not yet. It's been the second day and he knows I've been out for about two to three weeks, so obviously you know that I'm not gonna be at my best starting now. You know, so no, obviously expeditions are high. You know, even just for myself for myself, I know it's a big transfer transfer fee and I know that I'm taking that next step, and it's going to be a bigger step than I took previous step, but it's going to be important for me to show out and show the team that they can trust me. Regard we had here again Klinsmann on the show about a month ago. Maybe a few months ago, you're going to cleanse win the ex U.S. men's national team coach X, one of the best forwards to ever play the game. He was talking about the timing and how the timing needed to be right. We're going into World Cup year. Why was the timing right now? Oh, like I said, you know, I feel like I needed that next step, and I need to play. So I feel like there's no better time in there and taking this opportunity now. I feel like this is the next step for me and obviously I feel like I think I can play in this team and I think that I can show them what the qualities I have and I can earn some minutes and some opportunities..

"Carlos, when you look at the other national teams within goncourt, and at the rate, they're exporting players to Europe. If Mexico doesn't keep up with that rate, can it hurt them? Yes, of course. Yes, we need to keep an evolution in our sucker. So the young players of Mexico, if they are exporting them to hero, I think the level of the national team will increase and will have a better selection, we know that Mexico has really good players has a very good national team. And if the young people of Mexico go to Europe, I think the national team will be better in the field and we will have better results. When you look at the goalkeeping pool with the Mexican soccer, you have memorial 36 years old, turning 37 soon. You have Alfredo de la Vera 39. You have a little cot excuse me, 34, or 34. You're 25. Do you see yourself on guitar? Yes, of course. I have it on my mind on my dreams. And I will work hard, so I can be in there. We know we have a really good keepers. The players, you say. And I respect them. A lot. And I always learn from seeing them on the field. But in my mind, I have a Qatar, I have Mexico, and I need to work very hard. So I can be in the list, and I have it on my dreams. You've gotten to see.

"I give a couple reasons for optimism here? We gotta remember, right? He's coming off the off season for Major League Soccer. I don't really think I saw a guy who looked like he was an off season form, right? He looked fit. He looked like he was ready. The other thing that I had an honest concern about peppy heading to the boon this league and just to European football in general, we think of it as more physical. He's like he's a tall guy hurt. Yeah. But he's not a thick guy. He's 6 one on the MLS website. They list him as weighing a 163 pounds. That's kind of skinny, but I didn't see him looking like a skinny player against those boon to sing a defenders. I saw a guy who at least physically absolutely looks like he can cut it. But to the point that you made and what we saw in that heat map, it's scary. 30 minutes, 9 touches just the one touch in the box. But again, how much of that is on Ricardo Pepe and how much about that is down to the team that he's playing for and Augsburg. And to that point, her, I was hosting ESPN FC over the weekend, and I was working on Saturday when this game went down. We had Steve Nicholson studio and we had ferto, who was played for a long time in the Bundesliga Norwegian national team as well. Now covers the German league force on ESPN FC on the show. And we started talking about Augsburg as it pertains to is it the right spot for peppy's development? I want you here what both these guys had to say and then I'll see if you agree with it. I'm a little worried that he may not, because I automatically went and thought of Josh saling. You know, never got any chances. If he did get a chance, it would be a half chance. And it made me want a game. And then what you do and playing for the team like that, you spend your whole 90 minutes, chasing. He's not going to land none of them. If you spend in 90 minutes every weekend, chasing. So that's a worry. If he'd gone to a Dortmund, and knowing that it wasn't going to play, then I'm thinking about people like barely, and police seek, who went there and knew they weren't going to play. But who'd developed so quickly, particularly the understanding of the game. So I don't think Ricardo pepi is going to learn the understanding of much of a game of his friends, the majority his time chasing. That's my only worry. Jan does some of what Stevie saying ring true for you as well? Yeah, absolutely. And that's why we are doing with the human beings here. And I don't know him how mature he is, how he's thinking how his camp is thinking. So what he's doing, the problem is, of course, David to your point to adult one. Either you learn to swim straight away, or you go under. All right, herk says some doubts there about whether Ricardo Pepe made the right choice for the first stop on his European sojourn. What do you think? Is there some truth to what the boys are saying? Yeah, especially Stevie Nichols. Steve nichol knows his football like he knows a shepherd's pie. The man's right on point there. Listen, when you're chasing the game as you call it, that's what they're saying is because you're playing from behind. It's much more difficult to score as a striker when you're playing from behind the spaces are tighter. Teams tend to defend a bit more. They're more lax with the ball you're chasing and what is this possession? It's very difficult. Now for a young player, it reminds me a lot of what he's doing at Norwich and also what he experienced Josh Sargent his last season of Schalke. This is a player that's very technical on the ball. Someone like peppy, Pepe is very good at combining Josh chardon's very technical, very good at combining. But what he needed the most was those reps in front of goal. And what Riccardo peppi needs the most to date and any forward needs the most. Is that confidence? It doesn't matter if you're getting those opportunities with the U.S. men's national team. If you're not confident they're going to do you no good enough. If all you're doing is, we can weak out is getting shellacked by these clubs in the Bundesliga is chasing the game is getting these half chances dependent on scraps. It's going to be very difficult mentally for a player. And that's where Jan was trying to come in about not knowing him personally. But remember her, one of my key concerns about Augsburg was the fact that they're in this relegation race. So regardless of the fact that they paid a record fee for you, if you're not the hot hand, you're not going to get minutes because the clubs existence is kind of hanging on the line. Mikhail gregorich, who's the player who actually scored for Alex book is another one of the forwards, he's hot right now. He's got three goals in his last 6, which for Augsburg is incredible. So I think when you look at what happened over the weekend, we see Pepe, we saw some positives there, but if Gregory is going to get hot, then that's at least one of those striker positions that you know is not going to change. Now, fortunately, oaks work does play with two strikers up top. So maybe they can coexist, but that for me would be a concern if Gregory continues to score. Let's move on with some other action from around Europe will run it back.

"Can do. What he thinks he can get out of it and you know, these are all the things that have made U.S. soccer. What we hate, you know, in the past, what we load, whether it's still in the present. So the credit here first to a couple of our colleagues came and Marie and Jeff Carla, who are, I believe the first to break this news. I have no doubt that Carlos Cordero can win this election. He's a really smart guy and I don't think he'd run if he didn't think he could win. There's a couple reasons for that. He's a real good politician. Remember the 2018 election. He was running against some big names. Eric quin martino hoped solo. And Carlos Cordero won. He also was critical in getting the 2026 World Cup vote to go the way of the United States Canada and Mexico. So this guy knows how to work his way around a room when it comes to the election. So I don't have a doubt that he could get elected. What I do have a doubt is whether he could govern and when I say that is, you know, the election is not a popularity contest. He doesn't have to worry about fans. But when you're governing, you have to worry about fans. You have to worry about the press. And you have to worry about those relationships that you damaged in your prior time as the U.S. president. We'll get to that a little bit in just a second. But I'll tell you this, hurt. I'm going to on the RU cool with it for Carlos Cordero. I'm going to withhold judgment until this. Until we hear from Carlos Cordero and count this as an open invitation to Carlos Cordero Sydney parlo cone to come on this program football Americas and I'll tell you why I want to hear from Carlos Cordero herk because we didn't hear from him last time, huh? You can't be president of U.S. soccer and not talk. And I was on the broadcast on March 11th, 2020. And we invited Carlos Cordero to come on the air on ESPN and talk about what was in those legal filings. Instead he chose to have me on air, read his statement. It wasn't good enough then. We saw the fallout of that. He had to resign within hours of that decision. Can't hide behind statements. You want to be president, you got to do the interviews. I'll withhold judgment, but until you talk, the floor Carlos is yours, check your DMs on Twitter. There's an invitation from your voice here on football. "Wanted to leave anyways in the last season he scored one goal, which may be a blessing to disguise to now signed to Jimenez can be the man the actual man. Yoshima yo tune, he's gone. He's gone. Guess who comes in, Charlie Rodriguez? Who's a very coveted ten in this league. And they got their guy order balling pinatas gone before you go oh wait, not only are the Olympian young Mexican talent, but also varado. So what do they do? Tuna and Alejandro mayorga. By the way, on that trade, they came out like highway robbery. They pulled the wool over chiba's eyes and they took it two very good players and also almost gonna go and you know he's gonna go, but you got Charlie the biggest for him. I mean, it just seems like everywhere you look with them, they're pulling off chest like moves and the rest are doing checkers. They're setting themselves up for the next decade, not for the next season. Yeah. I mean, if you're going on quantity, it almost has to be crucial, right? They're also linked with Christian Pablo, will remember him from his time with Major League Soccer, LA galaxy, ex bulk up player was on the Argentine World Cup team in 2018. If they could add him in kind of that attacking midfielder role, that could be very easy. So when I saw this question in our production meeting herk, I was actually stuck between the two teams from monterrey. I think there's a very good shout for the here, right? If you think if you think Cordoba is gonna end up returning to the player that he was, and if you think his, you also think about that at center back, vegan us also, by the way, link to a Brazilian center back. That was on the Olympic team. Maybe that'll explain some of the Carlos salza potential transfer rumors to Toronto. See which we've been seeing. So I think very much has a shot, but I'm gonna go ride this. Not so much 'cause I think 'cause I wanna talk about these players, circuits because I'm interested. I'm more interested in the two moves specifically. Rodolphe saro and Luis Romo. And I'm interested in these two moves, not necessarily for the right reasons, right? Let's start with the role for pizarro because he's on the screen that walking is his beautiful dog. This is last chance saloon for him. I'm not talking about at the national team level. I'm just talking about club, being like a relevant player in Liga and neck is in the Mexican sphere. We clearly saw what happened to inter Miami. It didn't work out. That almost felt like last chance. But this to me is really last chance for a player who's now a well beyond the young player phase of his career. For Luis Romo man, hark, I don't know about you, but this is such a disappointing move for me. This is a player who a month ago we heard was saying, I would only leave closer to Europe. I will only go for Europe. If I don't chase my dream, I'll be letting myself down. And I know the money is tempting, and I know the money's big with reality. But but he didn't make the move. He didn't make the move to Europe. And I think for both of these players, the window for Europe is probably closed. I think beside him, we knew that, but for Romo now, he's going to be 27 herk in June. Is there any chance now of a European move? Because if you listen to him, he hasn't given up that dream yet, at least publicly he's not saying that he's done with the dream of Europe, but I don't see an avenue now. No, not if it's not on a free and his chance was of a free was echoes a soul and I was Monterey. Now Monterey, that's a high transfer fee because the investment, I mean, they would want some return on that. Okay, so look, for those that don't know the tradition, we've got the rosca theres, right? A nice bakery, like a nice bread. And inside it, you've always got this. It's like a little baby doll. And effectively, you know, the tradition is different in every household. But you don't want to be the one that gets ammoniacal, right? Yes. You have some responsibility, right? So it's kind of a letdown. So what's going to be the biggest letdown then hurt obviously got Mackie season? We've been letting us down for the better part of I don't know the last decade. And I'm talking about chivas. If you're cheap as you already know you have goal scoring woes, right? You already know you have problems scoring goals. So you got to go out and get a goal score. Well, they went out and they got a good player. Yeah, but he's not that guaranteed goal scorer. And not only that, but the guy.

"With Alex burg. I think he's got ownership stake in a Belgian team, Crystal Palace. As well. So maybe we'll see an RSL plugged into the greater global game. More news from the last St. Louis SE has their first manager is Bradley carnell, the New York Red Bull assistant. Okay, what's your problem here? You got a problem. I can tell. You know I got no problem. I got no problem. We don't have to worry about it. You should have 2023, even if we do have a problem. Okay, here's the problem. It's not a sexy pick, right? South African guy who put in South Africa has only coached at an assistant in Africa with the Red Bulls. It's not really a sexy pick, but it's about building a culture, right? And our good friend Lutz, the sporting director there. That's what he wants to do. My worry is, are trying to copy the Red Bull brand. They're trying to go the Red Bull way. He's already said multiple times and if you're expecting high profile players, don't worry, they're not going to come. This is about players who fit into a system. A counter pressing system, the Red Bull way. That is my worry. When you start a new franchise, you want to knock it out the park on all aspects. The marketing, you want to get people to be excited about going. This isn't really scream excitement. Doesn't mean it will be a good thing, but it doesn't really scream excitement to me. Right, it's not an Atlanta United, Tata martino hire, right? They're just gonna land on every single paper and make people talk about your team. It's definitely not sexy, right? If you're St. Louis, and the one thing I would always say is, if you're an MLS team, there's only so much you can do. We talked about this before with your players. There's only so much you can do with your players. The salary cap means, everybody can kind of do the same things. You can do whatever you want. You could spend as much as you want on your coach. You can be as ambitious as you want. So to see somebody with basically just intra manager, New York red ball resume. You know, it doesn't at least initially scream ambition. Let's at least withhold judgment on St. Louis city SC until until 2023 when we see them play for the first time. All right, enough on Major League Soccer let's turn our attention south of the border and Liga and acke. Look at that. Look at the gear aguilas. Only on a T-shirt worn splendidly by Hercules Gomez, the illegal iMac is Klaus sura set to start tonight. Who do we got San Luis and pachuca schedule to kick off the number one? Maybe not the sexiest matchup, so let's take a bigger picture of you, shall we for our season preview of course our guys we mentioned at the top of the show, it is the ad de Los Reyes. That'll be the theme throughout this segment, but a little bit later on. Let's start the segment. Let's go. That is always a theme when it comes to the Mexican league and that is managers on the hot seat. So let's focus in on the big clubs. Some of the bigger names. Which of the key managers in Mexico is under the most pressure as we start the cloud sura. I don't care if it's key manager just manager in general. It's Santiago solari. It's crazy to think of course you were gonna of course with your anti America ways. Well, no, hear me out, and then you tell me if you agree with me. It's crazy to think that an a calendar year, you can.

You're like, I don't know about this. Listen. Soccer players football players, we will always find something to complain about. We're being told what to do our whole life. So if you find something to complain about, you will complain about it. Here is my word. As a footballer when it comes to coaches, there's two ways of respecting your authority. Who they are, what they've done, okay, as a player or a coach or when they show you how smart they are. No two ways about it. He's not gotten them to buy in. Neither as a player with the Chicago fire resume or as a coach with his metro stars or Red Bulls. I'm sorry, if you will. Or Toronto FC. He needs to get them to respect them on the field. And that is not happening, and that is a problem. Let me ask you the why on this though because I remember when we were talking about Jesse marsh, you said the passport would play against him, right? That people would hold it against him that he was American. Do you think do you think that's at the root of this that these players see a guy with an American playing resume an American coaching resume and say, what's this guy got to do with the Premier League in a club like Manchester United? It could be, it could be a factor, but I don't know if that's the main factor. Listen, it doesn't matter where you're from. If you can get players to at least belief in a second, doesn't matter where you're from. You're the guy that passport plays against you. Clean your ears out. Okay, I said, if you can get guys to believe in what you're selling and what you're trying to show them on the field, that should matter. But if they're speculation there, if they're not convinced, then the passport comes out and I'm fully convinced of that. Okay. So Chris armis, then, of course, before he with Manchester United was part of Major League Soccer. We got some more news here out of MLS. This time, was it concerns the ownership.

"Trips. They give you good food. They keep you healthy. They give you good workouts. Obviously, trainings are intense. So they're always putting you in that atmosphere and that develops the players pretty well. So as her mentioned earlier, you're still 18. You're very young. And we were having this conversation on football America on Monday. At 18 years old, you're not a fully developed player. What areas you want aspects of your game? Do you believe the Bundesliga will help you getting reaching the next level? Yeah, no, like I said, you know, and like you say, you know, I've not fully developed and this is a different league from the MLS. So there's going to be different things that I'm going to need then the things I need in the MLS. Obviously, I have a base, but there's a lot of things to learn, especially like reading the center backs over here, and I'm going to say, obviously, it's a lot different, you know, being more intense, being stronger, body wise, so it's going to be it's going to be a good change. You've been on a little bit of a drought for both club and country, even though you've been going through that drought. I think I feel you've been playing your best football. Combining, reading the game. What have you learned about yourself in this drought because it's not very common that you've had a goal scoring drought? Yeah, no, you know, I feel like these are the times when I make you as strong as you know, obviously I haven't scored in the past three games that I played. So it's been a drought. I guess you can call it a job, but no, I feel like these are the moments where I really learn the most. You know, you learn where the spaces I should have been at, you know, how I should have finished that shot or things like that. You know, it's a simple things and those tough moments are the moments where you grow your mentality to be stronger. Thanks for being with us, my man. Thank you. Hurricane Mao. Great stuff there. With Ricardo happy as we look at some of his competition for the upcoming season with Alex Berkshire as you guys mentioned in the interview there right now 15 in the Bundesliga one point above the relegation zone and if you want more of that Ricardo pepi interview,.

"To rangers in Scotland on an 18 month loan. Hercules 21 years old, 65 MLS appearances since his debut way back in 2017 crazy to think in a World Cup year Hercules do you like this move for sands? I like it for a lot of reasons. He's 21 years old, he's gonna go to a place that isn't Europe yes, the Scottish Premier League isn't probably the highest of levels, but you know what it does give him an opportunity to do? Gives an opportunity of Champions League and Europa League. Champions League and I'm not talking about this season because they're in Europe a league, but potentially down the road. And that's gonna be a good platform for him to try to impress. He's at 21 years old. He just had 5 year deal with New York. And you know what that means. Anytime you get a good player, national team pool player, who's been on the radar for the national team as being a better player or a more important player for European teams anytime you sign a new deal, you're gone. And that's exactly what happened. You mentioned rangers, part of Europa League. They're in the knockout round, by the way. They're going to face off against Bruce your dorm and maybe we got a sans versus Gio Reina X New York City FC academy showdown in the Europa League. He's got 7 caps for the national team and of course it's part of the gold cup team this summer as well. Let's hear more on the move from saints. Yes, it's a massive moment for me. You know, coming to a club with such a good tradition and winning history like rangers is a big step for me. And I'm really looking forward to getting in with the top group of players and coaches. So I'm super excited. Why do you feel rangers was the right club for you to move to Europe for the first time? You know, I think because of the ambitions that rangers have both domestically in Scotland and in Europe as well, I think it made sense to go to a have those ambitions and was willing to work on developing me as a player and a person. So I think that was a big reason. And also playing in front of a fan base like rangers is an important step. And it's big for me to learn how to play in those environments. "Doing what you're doing. That's fine, okay? If you want to see the U.S., get to maybe the second round, or maybe make a run of the quarterfinal. Keep doing what you're doing. But if you want to see them, compete for world cups. If you want to see them be the best that they can possibly have them try to play at the highest level possible. Not domestically, not only gonna make these, not a Major League Soccer. That's not where you want them. You want them sharpening that iron. You want them in the best level possible. I will keep scratching my head trying to figure out why Mexican players need a free transfer to make the jump and why because nobody's going to win what they're asking and why a player like Ricardo pepi is actually worth $20 million with so this is 18 year old who scored those for the national team and he's forgotten as he just mentioned. And he's 8 years old. How many young Mexican players get an opportunity in Mexico? They had a great generation that just won the bronze medal at the Olympics. Yes, youth. The under 17 team has won the World Cup twice in the past 15 years. So they're doing what you're doing. That's exactly what you get to do the same thing. Nobody's denying that there's talent now. We'll see. I'm telling you the internal market is so messed up that nobody will touch it. But over pizarro was valued at $20 million two years ago. And now he's back at the Monterey. We touched on Sebastian cordova move to take it as a little earlier on the show. For the first time ever, this deal includes a player from Liga MA, he's feminine, female Liga MAs. He's one of the best players in the league, and part of Sebastian kordo was moved to Teigen's involve, got the moving to America. What does.

"Rattler for betis. He started one game and then he goes to. The bench comes off the bench the next day so he has not played regularly for his blood. He's he's an older player now scores and whenever you ask him to play that role as a player box box inside next to tonight about is too much to ask for embezzling. Let's go back to what happened against panama and coming off the bench for jonathan. The santos he was the best player on the field that afternoon because he only had two twenty five minutes. And that's all you need from one time to give us starring role to chatty rodriguez seventy on cordova but not as we should sit is take corona. You sit on. Let him be refreshed. Let him take a step back and realize just how not good he's been refreshes mind refreshes legs get appetite again. Get his competence. Back again and this guate- though no longer has a place on this team and that's what the battle is of the rapa. Marcus mold right now. He's the guy who's going to be there in the second round game that fourth game and he will give you about forty five minutes. Monica's did it against brazil. He's be there for that leadership and nothing else you can't count on them. Like mao said game in and game out. Certainly not when you have three games in a window. That's not the end. That's what you want and if you wanna waste a spot on him to only use them twenty minutes here. Twenty five minutes air. That means gordon about to be out could be out or be out. I don't know if i wanted them from mexico fan. You're you're you're killing another but you're leaving him in. Because you're you're saying the guy citizens technique o. Eilly leaving him out of the eighteen like he doesn't even have the opportunity to sit. He's out of the team. Oh wow not even option offense. That's what do you think about that. Much no seattle. And i go back. And that's what you're hanging onto so there's one other big factor. I'm not saying it's going to happen every single game but at least there will be some situations where there is one of who can still be useful. You're right he's probably steal there because he's the cabinet and he's the most experienced player and that the martino can use him as a liaison between the technical staff and the players know recent just a us one of the spots right but again if he can still ego twenty to twenty five good minutes he at least has a shot at being the team in the bench. I know it's called three questions. That are not mass. That's one more question before we get out of here should try something new something. We've not really seen before. Should he go to up. Top and kunas maureen next key. Menez what do you think saudi. So this is something he said in the past wouldn't really entertain but desperate times copper. Desperate measures should try it. Not starring them both at the same time because he's he's very very.

"It'd be better for her physically with the us women's national team angels city etc etc. But just more than anything on a personal level for her to be happy for her to be calm about this for her to be at ease with her situation than do it. She doesn't know anything to anybody. I'm thinking about how the pandemic has changed careers. And i think there's a lot of careers you can look at. I wonder if we look back and say that. About kristen presses career because i remember just before the pandemic literally just before the pandemic i was calling. She believes cup matches with julie foudy and at that time you really felt and this is early twenty twenty. You felt that kristen press was probably the best attacking player on the us. Women's national team at that point. And maybe the best if not one of the best attacking player in the world then the pandemic hits i think she lost some of that momentum and if you remember her at the olympics she wasn't a star she wasn't the player that the ball went through a ton and so i wonder if when we look back. We'll say what might have been if the olympics had been in twenty twenty for kristen press because she at that moment to me really looked like she was about to explode now. The other thing that i'll mention here is her age. She's thirty to the national team. Waits for no one. you know. that's the other reality here when you step away from the game. There's a lot of really young talented players in that position specifically is one that needs younger players so i wonder what this means for her future with the national team. Will this be a short layoff long. Layoff we don't know but if it is a longer layoff. I wonder if there's not a kind of a queue of young players who could be in line to take some of her minutes and maybe her position to that to that point. Let me pick one player from the new group. That i think could be a player to watch in these coming games against wind to me. It's a very. it's a very obvious name. And that's mallory pugh mallory. Pugh.

"Is not good enough so yeah they might finish i but it won't mean a thing. They've only finished verse. What wants since two thousand. And that was to eighteen with juan carlos. Odio sorta honesty sub. They'll finish first because they've got more players in their prime. They've got more players. Were not only in their prime but our better players than the field right now today. They're a better team. They're better coached. There are fewer holes. There are less questions being asked him on the sporting side. Then the field. I think if you go through the us. Canada jamaica panama. You're gonna find lots of holes. Lots of questions being asked not so many on the mexicans. But i agree with now i mean. What does it matter if you go in first. Because we've seen him going. I same outcome. We've seen him get a playoff game against new zealand. Go in two thousand fourteen same outcome. Yeah yeah maybe the better question is what now will they finish. I will they go incoming on though well they do it with a game or two games. I i think they will. I think when you go seven out of nine without that many players and two of the three being on the road. I think it's not six eight teams. Okay fair enough fair enough. Still mexico's sitting pretty after the first three matches. I'm sure we gotta let you go. Good luck the rest of the week on our numata. "Than had two or three if not four goals in that second. Is that what you're saying that good and the second knocking on the door absolutely told me the best player on the field wasn't panama's goalie bow. No no who is panama's best player then panama's best player. The number i even was going to mexico fits I will say this. Mexico has proven and you mentioned this maybe a show or two ago that maybe they are deeper than we really thought. And i've been thinking about this. No they are deeper than we thought. We talked about this golden generation for the us men's national team and how deep they are. Look at the other side. I mean these players that arguably many said we're part of the team at the olympics are really now part of this team here with dino and they're stepping up out a month this was vital even even when the big players weren't there to see the or excuse me is now nowhere to be found. He's now wearing the equation. You'll hamas couldn't be there that's out of monte steps out of nowhere he was probably what fifth and the depth chart. If i'm being honest right there so this is a better team than what i thought. This is a much deeper team than i thought. But they're winning. I don't think they dominated the way you thought no. Let's go over to the sub specifically the three at halftime on comes have on henry. Martine off go. Charlie rodriguez john santos who had a shocker. And as mario only lasts forty five minutes. This time of the leash is getting shorter and shorter. On the recently naturalized mexican player on the rest of our. Interestingly enough her crew. You retired on this show about a month ago. Is that right. Yeah yeah if you think. That has a solution for you in qatar what to tell you. His role is a marcus type role. Like i did in two thousand eighteen. Where if you get to that second round. He's going to play. He'll be there and play in that second round forty-five minutes versus brazil. He's that type of role if he is to make it to the world. So which are the subs. You want to give the credit to then so on cordola. He was probably the brightest of the three. Yes but i think it's. Because i think what i was very positive because he won another one got showed a poise that when it was romo and joan in the middle did not show and i agree. Jones didn't have his best game. Still not one hundred percent fit. You can see that and we've seen it with the galaxy we from speaking to me still carrying the knock. He's not one hundred percent. You could see it last night when they played who didn't look his sharpest and he's probably the direct equivalent of what is allowed. But edson not being there. You miss that bite. You missed the fight at that. The line did very well by committee. And then kennedy martine. Martine should've started this game. I don't know why food is started. This game should have been kennedy martine. It wasn't he came on. He was very positive very bright. He was very good in this holdup play. He was doing things that he didn't do in the first half. And you know. Part of that goal was a part of his.

"Of this qualifying cycle. The obviously missed the game against canada missing the game as well against on dudas as reported by guys are jeff carlisle. Not only did he spend a night outside The bubble he also brought an unauthorized visitor into his hotel room. So inside the bubble. We're talking timeout. Really not one. But two separate instances over two separate nights a given that information all that we that we do know now taylor. Gregg berhalter has a pretty big decision coming up here in october. If he would ask you for advice at what would you tell them about. Bringing weston mckennie back into the team for those october qualifiers. I would say to greg. I'm not sure. I'm the one making the decision. I wanna see what happens at you. Vent this because what. I found very interesting. After the news broke mckinney left the united states camp is the fact that on the gazeta cover front page. A luxury was talking about western. Mckinney's off-the-field antics. Now he didn't go into depth he didn't go into any kind of depth of what that meant but he said his off. Field antics are hindering his performances. And so i'm assessing weston mckennie and for the record my money. This is not talking to greg. through talking to you and the world. My money's on western mckinney. Come back a better player and a better teammate. From this experience and especially because the united states one four one without him they have lost then all of a sudden he kinda can feed into that wolf. You have west end. What would it have done. They didn't they won. They won without giovanni riina. That's going to help that. John brooks comes off the field. They look more cohesive. So i think all of these things working greg. Berle there's favor but from weston mckennie is point of view. I think the next two or three weeks are massive for greg world through in the united states. If he's in your group if he's playing consistently and i'm not saying starting but if he's coming off the bench whatever if he's shown any kind of sign of progress then obviously you have to bring him in in talk to him. I'm not saying you have to play with play them yet. But you have to have that conversation. He's too valuable. He could be a huge asset in as as herk rightfully said to the next three games are at home. You need to win those to be a huge part of it. But i think the next two or three weeks are huge. From events point of view in assessing weston mckennie and from greg burrow. Through saying you know what. I want him back in my group. Now gregg berhalter. I challenge him because he hasn't quite frankly been lighting up with performances at the national team. As of late zip player..

"To make his living scoring goals. I can tell you. It's a very very good way of going about things. And he's just so. I don't wanna say cocky. What he's so confident. I mean he e. probably too young and naive to realize what exactly is going on right now and what exactly his coach did when he chose him an eighteen year old to line up at that nine position. I don't even want to say faith. Her halted gambled with regard to the peppy regarding the peppy. Saved berhalter's job. Peppy realize what he has done realizes where he was at and what they achieved and he was involved in all four goals. All four goals. Yeah can we talk about the performance. A little bit for me the header the header and you can say if you think he saved gregg berhalter job. The moment that it comes in that game totally hangs in the balance that header. You'll tell me more how he got enough power on it. He seems to hang in the air and snap through that thing in a way. That is very very elite. You don't see that and you definitely don't see that from eighteen year old kids making their senior national team debut. The other the other play for me. Herk is the assist the assist that timing of it. The selflessness of it to brandon aaronson. It's so exciting. And you mentioned he is so hot right now. this is a this is a really steep trajectory. That he's on all of a sudden he started only four games in mls last year now. He's starting for the national team. We see the breakthrough with fc dallas. We see what he did. The all star game all the buzz around with the decision. I think we're not just excited about this kid's present but also hurt his future and at club level. I can't imagine him being an mls much longer. The transfer window who des cleared the transfer window. But that's the only reason he's gonna last there a few more months but at the international level. I think we have to spend it for nasa is he the number nine when this team reconvenes the starter at that position october. Listen i will say this good reason. Why not have your number nine being inform and whether that's bringing other people in to score or you yourself being the hot hand or the hot foot in this case and you're the goal score and he got peppy is that he's got a deep in dallas on the bench. He's got right now. Guys playing in the premier league on the outside looking.
