"I think a lot of times people get into negotiation. And they feel like they need to start jumping right to solutions and they're almost trying to throw all the spaghetti at the wall to see what's gonna stick. I actually find that. Most of negotiations success is defining the right problem to solve. And that doesn't matter whether you're sitting down with a contractor to talk about a bathroom reynaud or you're thinking about something large like steering your career and approaching your ceo your management right to get that on course. So let's take an example here. Let's assume for example that your negotiating your salary or your or your your new jobs or to set up you know vacation benefits and all sorts of stuff and at that. Point is a real temptation to want to maximize everything. I want more vacation than anybody. I want high salary. I want this. I want that. How can you kee- into what you're just saying figuring out what's most important to you but at the same time make sure that you are being balanced and getting a good package deal all of the things you talked about right better salary. Better vacation all of that. Those are what i call tangible. 's and those are great. You know it's great to go into negotiation and say i want a bunch of tangible 's ultimately as you will know right a lot of times we end up having to prioritize somewhat. We don't hit the powerball and get everything but we have to figure out sort of what's most important us. But i want to back up even more because to me. The tangible are not even enough of a picture. I think you also have to figure out the intangible needs you. Have that are driving you in that negotiation for example if i go in and i'm asking for a certain salary and i'm asking for certain benefits and all that what's the purpose of that again. What's the problem i'm trying to solve. Is it just that. I need to maintain a certain lifestyle. And so i'm looking for a number of ex to hit that or am i trying to do something deeper and my looking for a sense of advancement in my life and my looking to teach management how to value me in a way that yes involves money it involves more than money that involves my skill my leadership my experience and so i'm communicating through that negotiation. Not just i'd like to be valued at x. But i see myself in the c. suite someday and i want you to start seeing it to again. I think it is great to go in and to have all the tangible you need. I would just challenge listeners to link that up to something else take those tangible. 's write them down and ask yourself what would happen if i achieved those and that how you connect some of those little pieces to a much larger puzzle..

"One. I wanted to tell you is make sure that you put on by intersections are if you see another investor with their signing there. Okay don't take the sign down you put yours up all right. I don't even like putting a whole bunch of signs neck. My sign next to a whole bunch of different sizes out. Because i mean you think about it. What even seller. You're not really giving any type of chance to choose if you have three or four sizes. Say the same thing. Right in front of each other or next to each other are putting a busy intersections right. Maybe like a good places. Like when you coming off the intersection of highway. Okay right there where they stop. That's a good place. Put him near local walmart's Home depot Those stores that there's a lot of traffic activity and put them there all right and i'm telling you your phone star rigging off the hook with motivated sellers now moving onto when it comes to finding buyers it is a excellent way and we still use this way to be able to find buyers in our local market. All right. advertise your property. Don't put the address on it or put how many beds and baths so you can put three two or two one or whatever. I'll put the asking price okay. there's a garage you might want to put to one or whatever no one at the end meeting is a garage or to garage or whatever You can put the square feet on there if you can't but then just put your phone number. Okay but what i like to do is like to put the headline. So for instance. If i know this is a good reynaud i'll put them their landlords dream okay. Landlords dream are or a cash cow opportunity or cash flowing property okay or if inserted into a rehab over. I might put fixer upper. Okay a golden fixer upper awry or a rehab dream all right and then i'll put the information in the property Meaning the best involves Asking price and then a phone number. Okay this will get your phone ringing off the hook and another good places to put them definitely put them not too far from the area. The house that you have that you under contract that you're looking to sell but also you know. Put them busy intersections as well and find local home depot's or a low shop and put them in there because why there's a lot of investors going in and out to buy different Materials for the properties. And so they're going to see them there and that's very good place to get a lot of attention. A lot of exposure to signs and get caused all right so the question you know does aniston's work most definitely okay. Most definitely alright again. I would get a number so that way is not track necessarily back to you and you can start to have these lease from sellers or buyers come in and is really the most cost efficient way for you to go out there and get some leaves of your own home without doing expensive direct mail campaigns or you know not being able to keep up the direct mail campaigns repetitively on a consistent basis. If your budget doesn't fit that band assigned is the route to go all right so that's gonna be it for this episode of just wanted to quickly talk about band signs how you can use them and start to get them to generate leads and deals in your local market all right. Suspect in killing of right-wing protester fatally shot during arrest

"Show the moments leading up to a shooting that killed a right wing demonstrator in Portland. The search for the shooter ended with the take down that left Antifa supporter dead near Lacey last night. Tonight. We're hearing from people who know both men call Miller is live tonight with new evidence that was just unsealed. Cole. I'm very impressed it. An arrest warrant reveals that Michael Rainelle was to be charged with second degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon in that Portland shooting. Both he and Aaron Jay Danielson came armed to those protests, and at least four witnesses told detectives they heard shouting. Followed by two gunshots as a pro Trump caravan made its way through downtown Portland last weekend. Counter protesters came out as well and hours later, a deadly shooting. Erin J. Danielson, a right wing activist and Patriot prayer supporter, was killed and a warrant for the alleged gunman Michael Rainelle and Antifa supporter was issued yesterday. And now, new court documents show the images leading up to the confrontation. Rainelle seen walking than inside that parking garage as Danielson walks by out of frame. Those shots are fired. But he was always pumped about. You know things were going to get better friends also remembering Danielson not going down there getting so crazy. I worry about you. And that was the last messages and a search warrant was also unsealed today and that showed that Rainelle lived at a Portland address. It's unclear if he had ties to the lacy area. Or why he may have been there, and we still don't know if he ever at any point fired at officers. Neighbors told me last night, they heard at least two dozen shots overall. To you.

Who is Alex Cintrón, the Astros hitting coach who instigated brawl with the A's?

"Brawl in baseball yesterday. Ramona Reynaud went right after Alex Cintron, who is the head coach for the Houston Astros, And this whole thing was bizarre to Maine. We know that there is a beef between the athletics and the Astros. Mike Fires used to pitch for the Astros was on the on the athletic still is on Lorraine. Oh, gets hit twice in the Siri's that the 2nd 1 I didn't see the first of the 2nd 1 was not intentional. But he was walking to first base is so John boy pretty much tryingto figure out what was going on. And I guess Laredo was trying to tell the picture had to throw the ball. Cintron asked, get suspended from saying his name correctly, If now I apologize, but the bench the hitting coach has to get suspended, has to get a lengthy suspension. Because he is basically egging on Lorraine. Oh, who's at first base? And it was gutless. What the hitting coach did he goes? Oh, yeah. You come over here You come over here. The guys 41 years old, if this is not A 60 70 80 year old heading coach. This is not who is the Mets pitching coach? That's your Phil Regan. This's not him or or the late. Great Don Zimmer with Pedro Martinez, where you see potentially an older person get thrown to the ground. That was not this. This a 41 year old yellow Nazareno basically, Tom come over and fight him, and he did the ultimate Gutless move off. I'm going to tell you to come fight me. But the minute when you take a step forward three for my players are going to step in front of me. And then I'm going to become Mr Hold me back, bro. Type of guy. That's the worst person in a fight. Someone that instigates the fight and then doesn't throw the punch and doesn't actually fight when someone comes charging at you because of you just being ridiculous in the dugout. That guy doesn't get popped if Joe Kelly gets it with what it was an eight game suspension. If this is it, the heading coach here for the Astros doesn't get At least eight games, then that's ridiculous. Albay have no clue how to figure this out. They'll mess it up. Did you agree with that? Then we have a heading coach, basically telling Laredo to come over and fight him. Or Laureano. Excuse me. To come over and fight him. And then he lets what 34 of his players take care of it that was weak. Yeah, it's weak and it's like extra dumb when the league is begging you not to have a bench clearing altercations, and then you instigate won as a coach, not even a player for seemingly I don't even understand the reason. And it even begins. So, yeah, you would think he's going to be in big, big trouble, too. We

Fiat Chrysler finds new merger partner in Carlos Tavares

"French carmaker. PSA which owns Pirjo and Fiat Chrysler. Automobiles it's Italian American rival have agreed to pursue a merger that would create the world's fourth largest carmaker and reshape the ultimate of sector. I'm here with a motor industry correspondent Peter Campbell. And we're joined down the line by David Kayhan in Paris to discuss the merger. Hi Guys Peter Tell us first why these super super mergers have been considered at the moment. What's the rationale behind them earn? What's the most notable recent mergers in the sector so call makers of facing stresses from a lot of a different direction at the moment? They're facing falling sales in the facing the need to invest in some quite expensive new technologies electric cars. They need to sell to the C O talks across Europe and China as well as driverless vehicles and other such technologies that looking at now. What are these things cost money? And it makes very little sense for all of the world's carmakers call makers independently to spend the billions and billions that they need to develop this technology. It's much more sensible for them to tie up. A great proponent of this theory was Sergio Marconi the late former chief executive of fit cruiser who oversaw the merger between Fiat and Chrysler itself. WHO said the comic is need to tie up in order to avoid duplication teaching the list massive spending that they have to make? It's just too much cash. They need to splash right. So what are the relative strengths of the Fiat group. Compared to pressure so both companies are incredibly complementary geographically Peugeot exists almost entirely in Europe asam stuff outside Europe. But it's very very strong strong in Europe. Fat Chrysler despite being called fat is in fact predominantly in North America organization. Almost all of its profits. Come from selling pick-up trucks and very large. SUV's in the North North American region. It owns the ram heavy truck brand it ends jeep globally Lens Africa and Maserati and so for these companies they complement each other geographically and and what PSA has shown with its takeover of Opal which owns Fox hole in the last few years is that this is a company that can manage scale in European mass mass manufacturing so it already owns a number of volume brands in Europe. It audience Persian and sit. Trinidad's open phones Vauxhall. You would add to that fat if this merger went ahead head. And they've already showed that they can make these efficiencies of scale work within a single region within Europe which would be an advantage but PSA really although it's had an incredible Rana that's very profitable. Its growth is sort of come to an end really needs to try and push into North America which has plans to do unto its own steam and it really needs a serious premium. AM nameplate a merger with fair crews which is very strong in North America and has offer may a massive rati and jeep brings that I say so David John Elkin. WHO's the one of Italy's Agnelli families? The Italian billionaire behind axle which controls Fiat Chrysler and also the brains behind the proposed merger but his his attempt to do a similar deal with Renault early. This year failed at this plenty of examples of failure here. What happened there? Why did I go wrong? Defensive Him you ask really. FCA In parallel talks with Reynaud and Persia for quite a while but particularly since the start of the year. What people have told us that the whole time? They're in these as talks. They actually wanted runner. That was number one target. But I didn't know that so Iran may the news was given to the profoundly particular and generally that they were going to go over a nice over a good the only problem from. Sei's point of view. Is that across the table from the Reynolds argest shareholder was the French state. You might know that Renos found itself in a particular situation with its Japanese partner Nissan. And what the French state said was at Notre for the merger to go ahead. They wanted the explicit it consent agreement approval of Japan. They walked away. It was like ten days. The whole thing collapsed. It was a drama France. Tickets blamed by some sides if you took the French state on background they say maybe the deal wasn't as good for Renos. It could have been directing normal shareholder but either way John alcon sure. The French date didn't like what it was doing walked away dramatically and that leads us to PSA so would perjures Kosta virus preach batter partner. Do you think it depends. I mean I would cautiously say yes. Tavarez is a big personality big. Co elkhound is buying in is a guy who's not. It's going to take a backseat in any way he's going to be a CEO in charge driving strategy and Alcon will be classic chairman. You'd imagine it's kind of return to demark relationship. He had before maybe it was something. We didn't think he was totally on board. With an part of the reason he went Reynaud but where the project is definitely at nicer fit for FCA. Is that the French state is far less hands on this company. It has a shareholding but in Reynaud you could say that the French state is more like a family company shareholders. Huge emotional ties. It's the largest shareholder as well in Persia. It's a much more traditional shareholder it doesn't lockinge stakes. It's the joints are shareholder shareholder with both the Persian family and China's Dongfang. So you can see why it might be a better partner. Yes so notice. That are lex pages. Describe cried Mr Tavarez's quadri-lingual what kind of big personality is he. What kind of figure does he cut in the car? Industry globally so taveras is renowned and as one of the most capable executives across the automotive industry. If you look at his track record is performance. He came into Persia when they will almost bankrupt. He oversaw sore huge turnaround at the company then bought Opel. This was a company that General Motors couldn't make money out of twenty years. They turned that around in very short order and yet at the same time he doesn't have the gigantic room. Filling ego of some of the other executives in the auto industry would be more akin to traveling head of state when they it went overseas. Savar as who is a cost cutter to the core when he comes to the UK to visit the Vauxhall plant at Luton flies into Luton on EasyJet buys is is sandwiches in the corner shop before getting in a taxi to go over to the plant in his better than eight. Uneasy gentleman with US possibly explanation. But it's also true that he really has a way a of identifying with the ground level workforce as well as the executives and saying guys. You are the team here is up to you to deliver this turnaround plan has to go ahead. And he's been quite good actually particularly in the Opel turnaround of avoiding plant closures. No everybody thought when he bought Opel there we're going to have to shut factories and he said we're going to do this plan without shutting factories and they brought he managed that and what we expect from the FCA deal if it goes ahead. Is that going to make a commitment not to close any of either. I accompanies plants as a result of the turnaround as a result of trying to make savings here and so two Varas is seen. At least at the highest levels of most capable automative executives that gives at the moment and by some people is ranked the best glibly anywhere interesting David. How's he viewed inside of corporate France? If you like with a problem we have a terrorist journalist. This is not enough that stuff to say about him. It's genuine issue now. He's considered in France and piracy to be one of the best. I mean one of the reasons. The French government are supporting. This is because Tabarez is there. He's seen as being a safe pair of hands he sees having done a really great trainer ended Persia and he's seen as someone that they can trust in putting together this merger that's right but he has this cultural index territory. The allows him to associate with work in different countries so when he bought Opel everyone was naturally worried Opel. They were about to get fired but he walks into the headquarters Opel in Germany. All the stuff of April assembled there and his opening lines to the Marin German now he doesn't speak German but he'd learned some opening lines in German and was greeted with a big round of applause but also with the sense in the room that this was a guy who was on their side. It makes a big difference right okay. Personalities a site. Let's let's talk about some of the numbers here. What are the terms of the proposed? David I mean where would the merge creeped based for start. Well that's a very good question when that we don't really know the answer to yet. The idea is multiple As it stands but just very quickly so it's a fifty fifty all stock merger and there's going to be a special dividends and payouts. Either side equalized equalized values but analysts are suggesting that this looks like PSA buying FCA and part of the reason you can say that is the construction of the board Komo correct. He has eleven people five each plus Tavarez so the governance is tilted towards Paris. We will be watching to see where the operation headquarters is really eighty based where Tavarez sits even if I think Peter you might jump in here as well. FCA They're used to bring multiple countries in a way that maybe we'll create tensions. Well this brings us very nicely into the cultures of both companies to. FCA was a company that was borne out of this merger between Fiat and Chrysler and as such as a headquarters in London but but a major office insurance and a major office in Auburn Hills. Chrysler is based and whereas many car companies are deeply rooted in the national culture. These guys genuinely feel we'll multinational and they genuinely feel more global and they've actually culturally made a merger work which historically the consciousness quite difficult to do right. We saw DaimlerChrysler the fall apart we saw Ford Not Really Gel with any of the premium brands. It owned Volvo Janke Arrest Martin etc and at the same time you've got. PSA which also is culturally in quite an international fit because it has a British Brandon Vauxhall at has a German Brandon Opel and again it's made an automotive merger work in recent history and so one of the biggest barriers to auto mergers is cultural and it always is and it's the factions between different rival governments wanting a place at the table and to the fact that you've got to companies that are sort little mood globally cultural and have recently made big complex multi-country images work does bode quite well for these. Two companies being able to culturally fit together. which is a huge hurdle and obviously not a financial one but a key one that really needs to be overcome for any automotive motor to work now to think that assuming this goes through? Do you think there will be cost-cutting. This time we've spoken about how Mr Tavarez avoided this in the past but do we think an ax will fall this time around. They've talked about Oh savings of three point seven billion euros which they go to try and realize eighty percent of those within the first couple of years of the deal going through now. They haven't broken out exactly where that comes from. They've said it's not going to be plant closures if you look at. PSA during open takeover they managed to save a lot of money by shortening labor hours thousand doing various things around the way they utilize space in the factory floor but a big chunk of savings in a big rationale for the deal in the whole is as we said at the start to avoid duplicating investment it costs so it'll be avoid. Investment cost into electrification and avoided investment costs not just intellectuals -cation autonomy but also inter individual platforms so you built a car on. They'll merge those together they'll get huge potential savings and of purchasing components together all kinds of classic industrial merger synergies. I mean David. Is that message sticking in France. I don't think this merger would have been given the green light or been greeted with such political approval as it has been so far if it hadn't been for guarantees. He's about jobs and I think that's true in Italy as well. I don't think they're going to be closing plants. I just don't think it's politically tenable as Peter says for. They're going to be. Finding the savings is in our D adoption. Those kind of things. So if you're a betting man do you think the magic. We'll go ahead and if it is who then are the biggest rivals to the merged group. Rule the move music safaris overwhelmingly positive. The fact the French government seemed to be behaving better than they did last time older. That's not a terribly high bar bodes well for the whole thing going through now. What we're expecting expecting is it? Within the next sort of two three four weeks we'll get a memorandum of understanding between the two companies that will set out potentially more details about synergies potentially more details about management structure and various other things. Maybe even headquarters details then. Obviously the whole thing has to go to show. Does it both companies who have to approve them is quite difficult to to see them derailing that and then obviously it has to go through various other regulatory huddles. They also have to deal with antitrust issues so this will be the largest carmaker in Europe. It could be bigger than Volkswagen that market share in some countries such as constantly will be very high so they may have issues with that but no one seriously thinks that's going to derail l. the deal so assuming everything goes smoothly you could see it close within say nine months potentially two year. There's always a bit of leeway with these things either side and then obviously they will be the fourth largest in the world behind reminisce. And if you're treating those companies is one that's the whole other but also Volkswagen Toyota and on readiness and those three make ten million cars a year. These guys will make eight and a half million calls year that puts them slightly ahead of General Motors. You make about eight but they will be easily within the global top five for well. This is going to keep busy for the next year or so. Thanks Peter an thanks David thank you wolf listening.

Fiat Chrysler Withdraws From Renault Deal

"Fiat Chrysler has decided to withdraw its offer to merge with the French carmaker Renou, according to people familiar with the matter. The company decided to pull out after the French government resisted, the deal due to a lack of support from Nissan. Nissan is in an alliance with Renault to find out more. I rang up Nick cost of in Paris, who's been closely following the deal. So Nick, what happened what happened? Good question suit, essentially, what we have is deal between we have FCA proposing to merge with Reynaud. However, Renner has been in tonight's with Nissan for twenty years, and therefore shares of many parts platforms is fairly integrated with Nissan, now, the French states decided that it would not back this deal without the explicit approval and without the explicit support of Nissan and Nissan. Has not really been involved in negotiations. Nissan, essentially abstained on the votes and said, we need more time to study how this would affect business and for the French state that wasn't good enough. They wanted me Santa vote. Yes. And so, different states, proposed delay said let's try and work with Nissan to try and get them on board and will reconvene in five days and at this point, John Alcon, who's the controlling shareholder if he at Chrysler decided to pull the deal of pool his proposal, and so the deal Fennell has fallen apart. What has the Chrysler said, well fee Chrysler fuse, and the deal is, is not possible with the with the French state at the moment, because they've been in negotiations with the French state for the past week, different state has been asking for a number of concessions, for example, once a board seat on the new entity. It wanted a four year term for the news CEO of the. Company, and he wanted that to be Reynaud chairman. There was a number of other things. And so see at Christ is essentially saying, we've had enough of the French states demands, this has become untenable, and we can't do a deal when east conditions, and what does the failure of this deal mean for the car industry in Europe? And in the US, does it help rivals, like maybe Volkswagen, perhaps, I mean, it's very difficult to tell at this stage in the US, this would have meant said Nissan, getting together with Chrysler in a way, which which would obviously bought brands like ramen Jeep closer closer with the Nissan's. So that doesn't seem like it's going to happen now. I mean what it means I guess, for the car industry is, if you speak to end this most of them think that Fiat Chrysler needs a deal right now and because then they haven't invested enough in future technologies, I'm so we'll see who they end up with whether it's another French call maker of maybe Paju, or whether

Renault board to reconvene on Fiat merger talks on Wednesday

"Board of Reynaud will reconvene for a second day of meetings after failing to come to a decision about a proposed merger with Fiat Chrysler, to find out more, I rang. Our reporter Nick Kostov. He stepped out of the meeting onto a Parisian street, so apologies for the honking, Nick, is it likely that the merger will be approved. Likely. I mean it seems to me that they've come to fall note to approve it and the finance minister, who has a big sadness different state has a big say was saying this morning on regular he supports the deal as long as he can get a number of guarantees. So they're still working on those govern teas. But if they can't find an agreement I would think that the board would approve it a majority of the board, obviously, Chrysler is not going to agree to anything that we can directional for the manager, but it stuff like the French state's getting a guaranteed seats on the new board or whether the French state would have a say in picking the CEO down the line. It's also standstill clauses to make sure this is an stays merger of equals doesn't become a takeover of one to make a by the other the final bits of being negotiated the French state probably wouldn't get everything. It's been all sinful. But it feels the if they at least get some of it than the deal would be easier to sell politically here in France.

Renault FCA merger set to reshape global car industry

"Fair Chrysler, automobiles, has unveiled a proposed thirty point six billion euro, al-sham measure with Renault that would we shape, the global automative industry, David Atlee discusses, how the jail came about and how it will affect Renos prepares tired with Nissan with Irish masugi and Peter Campbell. Rush tennis about the two men who engineered the deal when did the talk start. And how did the deal come together? Okay. If tickets step back and just imagine that in the last three or four years in the car industry, all the major players were talking to each other. Part of this thesis, was driven by the former CEO, the late CEO of Fiat Chrysler automobiles Sergio Marconi passed away last July, but had written this manifesto called confessions of capital junkie, where he called for consolidation for a number of reasons in the car industry, and he was, in many ways, the chief, confidant of John Elkin who runs the nearly family empire through an investment vehicle called Exor, which is the dominant shareholder and Fiat Chrysler. And so with Mark Janas death Elkin really steps into this role that normally would have been played by any number of special executives brought in by the family over the years to help exercise their interests. But Elkin really stepped into this role and then began taking charge and making a series of moves one. Those moves was to begin conversations with Renault about various things those conversations really took off, when John Dominic scenarist was brought in January to become the Renault chairman, and stabilize the company, which had been going through tumultuous period after the arrest of Carlos gone in Tokyo in November, the meetings between scenario and Alcon took place throughout the spring in Paris, and Turin at their various homes, and then in the last few weeks, what began as talks about cooperation in a broader partnership really shifted into something else, which was a full merger did call us gone have any role in trying to put together such a merger when he was headed. It's run into San Peter and the rest of the team who's been covering the gun fall out reported in March that Nissan had looked at FCA in the past three years in something that was pushed by Goan. It's not clear to what extent he actually wanted to do that. But at the time he was very much more focused on. Combining rhino with Nissan when it became clear that, that deal was not possible to scenario who had replaced gun, the conversations with Elkin really took off, and in centered Elkin found someone who is more mild mannered, who's more classically European traditional very smooth and diplomatic not an ego maniac, not a big character. Which is typically, what defines many of the big auto chief executives Goan would certainly be seen someone who was imperious character. And so in Senator, there was someone who is much easier to deal with. And I think that probably played a major role because Elkins manners is very sort of genteel in European if you want a risk Socratic, and so that dynamic probably helped make this happen. So you could actually save the absence of gone to some extent, maybe even absent Marconi made this deal easier to engineer. So where does that lead us what are the terms on? What will be the balance of power between each side, so it's a fifty fifty stock deal. So the shareholders in Chrysler wife. Fifty percent stake in a new company, which will be a Dutch registered company and Reynaud shareholders will have fifty percent that essentially means that everyone's shareholdings in the two existing companies will be cut in half. So extra will become the most dominant shareholder with about a fifteen percent stake, the French state, and Japan's Nissan which have fifteen percent of Renault. They will have seven and a half percent in the new company and there will be others who have smaller state, but that's largely the three dominant shareholders. That's why John Elkin will become the non executive chairman of the company and at least for the time being is believed that scenario will become the chief executive. But we'll see how that shakes out of the coming years theme what will is still mean for the industry, and can we expect further consolidation. Yeah. I think the message is yes, but the trick is, it's very hard. The industry is beset with big egos with national pride with unions with manufacturing jobs and the core. Thesis behind this is shutting down factories and firing people. So that is a really hard thing to. Swallow layer that in with the fact that you getting some kind of scale through consolidation layer that in with governments that will want to say to try to protect their jobs. And so you have a very difficult dynamic now concurrently to these talks with Reynaud Fiat was talking to pizzo of France. And obviously those talks have fallen apart hoettges looking stilted at the altar a bit. So the question is, what do they do next and Nissan, which at the moment, just looks like a basket case is also left with some questions to ponder upon for the future. But all the major car companies are watching this with great interest at the moment, so he can we then tune to what do we think. With the cost savings, be and will this mean job losses, the Irish alluded to? So the terms set out yesterday were quite clear in the deal. They envisage being able to do this merger without any plump closures now that may sound ambitious, but remember a few years ago, PSA, Persia took over opo and said they would have a turnaround program and integration program, evolve, no plunk closures and brutally. They haven't closed any plants, so. Oh, it's certainly possible to do that. FCA talked about possible cost savings of around five billion euros from combining various things such as purchasing an RND with Renna. But what they're most likely it's do is to avoid additional cost. One of the reasons comic is trying to tie up is because so many of them have such massive investment costs in future technology, think about something like electric vehicles, something like driverless, technology, and Sergia, Makia, knees, onset to or this was, it's much better for comic is to pool resources and spend this money together, rather than old, Joop locating their investment. And so what this does mean is that FCA and Reynaud, if they come together, we'll only have to spend one load of money on developing electric vehicles, rather than say, two now Renos already the European leader in electric vehicles as the biggest selling electric model in Europe and fit Kryza is generally regarded as a lag Auden electric technology and say, we'll hopefully be able to take in some of Renos electric technology. So they'll be looking for cost savings in various areas such as that. And how much will this merger weaken Nissen's bizarre? Mission within the alliance with Renault currently the way that the alliance is set up is that Reynaud Misawa each have equal representation on the alliance operating board says two seats for Japan. That's Nissim officially in two seats for froms. That's the Reynaud CEO and the Reynaud champion his John, Giannis Sonat, and what this will undoubtedly mean. We don't know what this will mean for the aligns board but is almost certainly going to mean that FCA has a seat at that table. It means that Nissan's influence in overall terms will decrease across the alliance, but actually, the view is that Nissan may perceive parts of this deal is incredibly positive for them, one of the conditions the FCC set during these talks with Renna was the any plans to merge renaissance should be shelved for the time being in order to let Nissen and to some extent, Renos wealth focus on they call business because Nissan's core businesses. Not in great shape seeing a huge slide in it sales in the US as saying fools in China. It's really struggling in some of its logo operations and a lot. Of the phone out of the Costco, no arrest and the questions over the future of the alliance and all the shenanigans about would they merge? Would they not merge has been distracting missiles, management, and frankly, Renos management, as well from the day-to-day operations of the business? So the hope is that by putting that issue to bed for the time being it will allow listen to focus on that day today or perations and not sexy is one thing that's been put in that to try and win over Nishantha supporting this deal in short, then that could be benefits finish San in this new alliance with key be so the long term, what if CA is open to doing is having a full on merger with miss sandwich would create by a very long way the world's largest car company with around fifteen million sales, and that would give them huge scale and therefore numerous potential to invest in a lot of the new future technology a much greater resilience in a very cyclical bumpy industry to be able to weather the storms now. That's more long term in the short term suddenly what Nissim would hope is that it just takes the potential of emerge Reynaud off the table. It lets them focus on the business. Which is something they need to do in order to be able to remain competitive in the future turning to another very important stakeholder in this how have investors responded? What has their view been safe, all say, if you look at the Shatt prices the shaft prices of FCA anniversary both rose incredibly strongly yesterday on Monday when the deal was announced, both rose more than ten percent, investors. See this broadly as positive, but there are lots of questions over the Deel. There were lots of questions over whether call makers need to have global scale, which this will give the companies or whether it's better to focus on getting scale instead of half an individual regions like someone like Persia has done with the OPEL deal because what this won't give Reynaud or FCA is much greater scale in any given regions. They have a bit of overlap in Europe, the market, share, at the end of this deal will be about sixteen percent in Europe. So it increases this state bat. But in terms of that Sharon other markets, there wasn't a great deal of overlap, so they won't be the biggest player in major global markets. They operate in. And so there's a. Question about whether they really need regional scale, or whether they need global scale, lots of other questions around merges, and particularly auto mergers that cross borders in general around company, coaches, we've seen a lot of mergers, in the past the famous one is diamond Chrysler go on for a few years, and then just collapsed because they don't work. That's almost never because of industrial issues political issues. It's almost always because of deeply ingrained, cultural issues, car companies are very cultural animals often rooted in the country, that, that headquartered in and say trying to put together a company that has not just a talion in US culture from fat Chrysler, but French culture from rhino, and ultimately, possibly Japanese culture from Nissen as quite a melting pot. If you're trying to put it all together, so there are two questions over this deal. You've mentioned some, but do you see any particular hurdles, is it the cultural is it the regulation is the politics that could prevent this top, the biggest one of the moment is whether Reynaud agrees to it. So while Reynolds, Chavan, John Donnie Senate has. Been in talks with Alcon for a long time over this and in recent weeks about the merger and FCA has put this proposal to Reynaud Renos still has to agree to it. The French state her fifteen percent of Reynaud behalf double voting rights. Still have to agree to it. Nissan, even though they don't have a blocking vote on this still need to agree. You have the Italian government saying that it wants to protect talion jobs. The French government won't to protect French jobs is going to be very political. We still don't know what the locations of this deal are for the specifics of Renos relationship with Nissen, particularly if it'll affect some of their past contracts together. And so there are a lot of things that could potentially derailed the deal. So it's not a slam dunk by any measure, but the language of FCA and the fact that they're leaders of work closely with Renos leaders over the last few weeks to nail this down. Does at least suggest that there is goodwill on both sides, and both of them it is in their interest to do this deal to make it work.

Let American past help you to take back your home or business from menacing pests visit them today at American pest dot net. Fiat Chrysler is proposing a merger with the French automaker Renault, Reynaud says it's considering it, this merger would be a big deal. It would create the world's third biggest car company after Toyota and Volkswagen. Here's NPR's Camilo domino, sqi, a merger this big would be striking, but not totally surprising. Fiat Chrysler has been looking for a partner for a while. And there, there are limited partners available. Michelle crabs is an analyst with auto trader and Cox automotive. She says, meanwhile, the French Renault had a long standing alliance with the Japanese automaker Nissan that was working. Well, and then things went awry, when former CEO Carlos gone was arrest. Sted in Japan for alleged financial misdeeds and things have just been unraveling now both fiancee's and Reynaud are eyeing their options when it comes to who though partner with as they prepare for big changes in the industry. Many major, automakers have already been partnering up over the last couple of years. There are two reasons first after years of record growth. The auto industry is starting to slow down and that decline is expected to continue. Meaning fewer car sales less revenue at the same time, automakers need to be making big investments in the future things like electric vehicles and self driving cars, and it's a tough one, because you're investing in something that isn't profitable today isn't going to be full tomorrow, but might be profitable might be essential in ten years time. Mark Wakefield is an automotive consultant at Alex, partner's upstart companies like tesla and even ride hailing services like Uber and lift. They're bringing new competition. In response established carmakers are closing ranks towards each other to be able to share costs and to be able to invest through this like on. That's really what's driving a lot of these merger discussions in partnership discussions to Reynaud has been making electric vehicles for years, while Fiat Chrysler, has been lagging behind its decided to focus on money-making brands like Jeep, and ram, big pickups, and SUV's. Plus, it has premium brands like Maserati Reynaud is pushing smaller low cost vehicles Fiat Chrysler thrives in the Americas. Particularly in the United States. Reynaud doesn't sell cars in North America at all. But it's a major player in Europe and Russia that also like a pretty good fit. One has small cars in the other big trucks, one offers luxury vehicles. The other goes down market, but they feel have problem which is trying to Felipe Munoz is an analyst at auto researcher Jada. Dynamics. He says, neither company has a foothold in the crucial Chinese market. Then there are the practical problems of merging and not in another culture. I know the more factories that's more people to teach to work together, which Fiat Chrysler, has to do already since the merger that made it back in two thousand fourteen Blyleven cries which are Italians on American that way only but he's not an easy thing. And it would be even harder if you try to preserve the French Renos alliance with Nissan of Japan, another complication Reynaud is part owned by the French government and has strong unions. The want to preserve local jobs, Fiat Chrysler says the deal if it happens would not result in any plant closures. Camilo dominancy, NPR news.

"Diner. They needed to get mobile field in the Reynaud engine, you have differences in terms of cooling, and mapping strategies ignition all of that kind of stuff related to what you'll feel is doing with Honda. They work they work with mobile. It will be the red bull fuel that. We know divergence between one program and the other and. I know red bull felt that they were suffering for not having the same field as Reynaud in this case, it won't that won't be a problem for them. So that should improve things like cooling reliabilty. And hopefully that will be virtuous circle that can they can exploiting you'll comes down to how how the relationship was as well 'cause you can push full aggressive packaging that kind of thing. But you've also good Laos given site one of the benefits the Hulme had lost. You was I did slot. Elongate the engine block which Soros allows them. So anybody annoys fifty some other, but it did make a difference. And I think the danger is just give it more stability in the car because they had some problems with rations. So you felt improved reliability. I think you've got it. So well and good because every part every department every every individual will have a specific area you like not to be interfaced with says mom doing Molly bet in these to be like that. But oversea your pays competing space with all the other Bet's. So it's a it's a fine balancing thought he think that Adrian Newey has go right and go reputation for being very aggressive on this in the past. He's has been overaggressive. But I think over time he's gone help of that. And you know, he managed to package adroit manuevering. The co fats him out what boats tool guy, and they are able to do that. Whereas now, you look lighthouse thighs one basely draws competitors Satan as normal sized drivers live on petty, for example, wasn't anywhere near is told. So as that, so I think nearly has learned in in that regard. So it's it's about the relationship is the it's it's making the push and pull this inevitable of. This work in a constructive way. Who got the fading with McLaren saw zehr lot. Right. This is what you do. We won't miss make it for that. And then holder did that best to make it work. But didn't have the confidence to push back Avia as they knew they had so many other bigger problems too. So I guess that's the exciting thing really hundreds at a lot more mature now. And right Bill for the first time really gonna be a proper works team effectively another had Causey works with Renault before they came back as a manufacturer team. But nevertheless, it's in this era. It's the closest that rebel of come. Hunter are on the up. So it could be if it lifts in. But if they do get it together, it we great for one to see them properly in the mix with Mercedes, ROY. That's what we hope for this stage of the season when there's so much still to be unwritten. Definitely nothing the relationship between rebel hunter should be censored because people understandably points to the problems I have run I with red bull complain. About by the Reynaud engine that was all going for lengthy periods of time, but we should say the rebels a customer. It was paying for engine hanging twenty million a year on this very different. It's not accustomed Dale. So when you do have a works on the Chevy how to be little bit more responsible. Should we say? So I don't think, you know, people at Christiana learn Asian you eat the no it is they they know what they're saying. And why they're saying it, and I think we will say even as home the problems early on. I think we'll say a lot more patience in the communication from the from the the red poolside maybe for max t I think Maxwell. He will try to. I think max is not, you know, easy. Oh, man in a hurry. You won't say not well championship. But he also knows that he's got to be a little bit patient with the Honda side of things. But I think what will make it even on a lobbyist has performance is the fullness is that thou be okay. If engines barring the running around fifty Valby bad if his doing well leading..

"Kill that from seven investment management as if let's talk Google, I if being hit with a whopping fine. They have the French regulator the C N I L has led a fifty million euro final Google, and that's the breaches of the new data protection. Regulation GDP are which came into force last year. Now, C N I L have said that Google has a lack of transparency inadequate information and also lack of valid consent regarding their advert personalization now interesting. These complaints have been filed by two privacy groups in front the first which came on the same day the regulations actually came into force. Now, the regulator the CNIL has said that because the necessary information that consumers might need is spread over number of different documents at Google it can take five or six different actions of. People to actually obtain the information they need not just not clear enough. In addition to that permission for personalized ads was pre ticked when the account is started which is currently not allowed under GPO roles. Now, so far Google is only said that it will be studying the decision to decide its next steps. But personally, I would expect some sort of reply from them indeed one would expect to be happening fairly soon. We'll keep our eyes on that. But let's move across to the current turmoil erupting with Renault and Nissan end, of course, colors grown his request for bail has been rejected. That's right, despite the fact, he promised to wear an electronic tag is now two months since he was detained for alleged financial misconduct. And he said that he will not only wear electronic tag, he'll surrender his passports, his promise to stay in Tokyo. And even be guarded. But that bail has been denied again raining on the grounds that he was a flight risk. And also that he might conceal every. Since now. In the meantime, Reynaud part of the alliance of ten of your pointed a new chairman and CEO we're expecting those to be confirmed when the board meets over the next day or so, but any discussions over the future of the overall alliance between Nissan Reynaud Mitsubushi, which Mr. gone had been promised pushing to be much deeper seemed to be on hold at the moment. Certainly seems that the really tough treatment of color is not due to end anytime soon. It's a fascinating story though. So we let's move along. We've just touched upon this slightly with Isabel Hilton in regards to the US China trade war, of course, the growth figures coming out of the IMF. They are really representing global concerns. Give us some context. Yes. They are. So in October, the IMF estimated the global growth could be about three point seven percent this year in twenty nineteen but they've revised that down out around three and a half percent. So yes, the trae tensions, particularly between the US and China. Saying could undermine global growth. But it's not only that they also cite risks such as no dill Brexit and China the Chinese economy just slowing down. Generally, we obviously had the figures out from China yesterday, which you discussing with Isabelle earlier now that will have an impact on what we're expecting particularly UK and China to deliver. So for example, the UK expect go around one and a half percent in two thousand nineteen and twenty twenty but warned that that figure could be incredibly uncertain due to the lack of clarity over Brexit. But overall, it is still grow three and a half percent. Global growth still actually reasonably respectable expansion in actively overall we also recovering from the global financial crisis. That is continuing. But obviously storm clouds are gathering storm clouds are gathering in do. Let's hope they they pass away soon. So kill the thank you for joining us. "Your mobile phone, whether it's your your choice for transportation. It's a wonderful way to think about what really causes people to buy things. And this is all you know, causalities. So we keep hammering on this thing and in many ways, it's it's stepping back in understanding. Exactly. Why people do what they do. And it's not try to correlate or state cluster. Well, those people did that therefore they're all the same where? Those people didn't do that in there for they're all different. So it's it's kind of. It's just an annoyance. I have about apple wanted to bring that up because it is. Now, a lot of people are saying and immed- the the responses to my my pointing out that China's slowing down the dramatically different than the rest of the world immediately. The responses were things like, well, they don't like the ten are or they're they're they're something got bored with apple night between Q four and Q Q three Q four right of the brand somehow just ceased being interesting, and that somehow of apple is is is Charlie about fashion, and so things go in and out of fashion, and and therefore Chinese are fickle apparently no-one else is that the Chinese are. And so or something else happened like? This is another thing. Okay. Nationalism. And the idea of using. A year painting a brand with a with the tarring of brand with with an image. Because you you feel that it belongs to the wrong culture belongs to the wrong people. So let's listen turn against Coca Cola because it's American let's turn against. Mercedes because it's German. Let's turn against it. Because it's Japanese. This is a throw thing can this is this is. I don't know what the word is. But it's I it's it's dangerous to to to pander to this kind of. Some some firms do this th they will they will. I give you one example. There's a Reynaud Renault makes cars as you know, and not in the you can find them in the US. But you know, they are they are French, and they sell a lot of cars worldwide Europe Africa, probably, you know, I'm guessing parts of Asian South America's while. But but renew bought several brands over the years one of them is dot ya. Which is a Romanian car making company or used to be state owned company. But but after the wall came down dot Joe became part of Renault they were acquired they had been building essentially copies over no cars under license for the seventies in eighties. There were sort of. There were the Romanian Lada for the Romanian, you go if you will, you know, these were state companies that were making copies of western cars in India. Them enlarge quantity for the local population. And by the way, Renault's about Ladas far as I knew it's it's a Russian company, but it's making most of cars in Russian people. And what what what interested me was that the the are no decided to sell dodge as in Europe as a different brand as deduction Bryant, which was low end low cost cars cheaper and very very popular. So these these Romanian made cars were sold in Europe under the remaining brand. But everybody sort of knew that they were Renault in the sold probably through Renault dealers except in Russia in Russia. Those same cars are sold his Renault. And this is why because I think in in Russia. They didn't wanna buy remain things. At least they wanna see things being being branded in this Romanian name because kind of maybe there was some maybe it was political may be something else. But I always followed it. A bit this ingenious that that. Okay. In one country. It's called one thing in another concentrates cold, another thing just just inboard gets around people realize this, maybe maybe maybe in the case of fairly small niche. It doesn't matter. But can you imagine if apple did that in sort of rebranded and redesigned product for local markets..

"What you can't do that. Now, maybe with a big disruptive rule change a lot with seven twenty twenty one. You can make a jump at it takes a long time to get into the front. So he can stay with McLaren for nineteen and realistically, expect anything better than with absolute perfect drum McClellan, we know better than the front of the midfield and most likely behind that gave them another gave them enough time. Didn't he Tony Tony t seasons of mccowan? The thing was all promise in delivery, and he had three seasons of that torment. And then still stuck around to see oh is Reynaud engine a basis around which we can actually get. Up to the front again one season in snow happening comedy blame McClellan had their own problems. But it's just the same old story with a different engine him, isn't it? So he's thinking, well, we're no further forward. It's been by now four seasons. So even if there's another rule change opportunity, we didn't take advantage of the last two if you count the engine changes that occur and tried to get on board with Honda, and then the two thousand seventeen aerodynamic rule changes that were vast are the ones before nine changes. They fell foul of. Yeah. So, you know, he's he's he's probably looking at the bigger picture there and going well, the signs look very positive for the future. So maybe it's time to just finally pack in who may temporarily I think are very fair the point about the way the rules are now and they're not commensurate teams. It's not like you can get there for the human gearbox and go from one rushing hope to competitive, but they're all three teams therefore sixties winning cars, and for one reason or another can't get into any. Now, I'm big fan of his. There is a reason for that. Because it's not nothing to do with what he does on track. We will accept these been one of the top two or three best draws decade in half. So I think Lonzo has played his part in him. Now having no options other than aren't gonna go and win the Indy. Five hundred and whatever else he decides today. Now, the case Christian Honan talks about it that they were Cain Alonzo because I felt he was a bit of a disruptive influence, and again, this is where myth comes. Auditor later, while some of that is is massively over blind. There are certain aspects of Alonzo's character. He kinda needs to be your focal point and a that kind of comes with with its Harry as we seen in the past. You could argue that McLaren had been in in button Renoir together, but they weren't fighting at the front says easy to be matey with the other world champions in that in that scenario. So interesting interesting that you know, talking about these three teams and six eight to if those teams he hasn't worked with before horn has no direct relationship with Lonzo from four point of United tighter. But both of them at different points of made publicly that reference to not show about loans as characters the kind of guy we want to have in our team. So they must have got that through secondhand information. Because they haven't had it been team win besides one him alongside Hamilton and rebel wouldn't want him alongside stop. They didn't have those two different story. Of course. Yeah. Yeah. And of course. He had the Ferrari see. That that protect unraveled again because it frustrated ambition. You know, he he he dropped probably drive like a hair. I didn't send me two seasons. For Orion came Cyclades doing the championship. And eventually he just kinda thought well, this is not going to happen. They at that down with slide massively in fourteen and then mass of the rest of my to the challenge of the Hollywood engines anyone narrowly same as Reynaud with red bull in that point, the reason they struggled so much early on is that Renault underestimated how much of a jump that wasn't didn't didn't plan for enough ahead, and of.
