Glenn Youngkin and Ron DeSantis Are Proof That Local Elections Matter

"Let me ask you something Look at the Commonwealth of Virginia We're going into that if you really want your main focus is who's going to be the next president of the United States That's all you care about As Trump going to run if he runs he's got to be Biden His Biden gonna want Is it gonna be Kamala Are they gonna get rid of her and put in Pete Buttigieg All these things If you're main focus is who's gonna be the president of the United States Let me ask you something Do you think Glenn youngkin And the Republicans sweep that we just saw in the Commonwealth of Virginia three weeks ago Do you think that improves the chances for a Republican to win the Electoral College votes in Virginia Versus should Terry mcauliffe had one Do you think maybe Moving this state the state of Virginia into the red column with regard to its governorship and its statewide leadership at lieutenant governor and attorney general do you think that that may be moves Virginia a little closer to being in play and being a purple state Do you think that governor Ron DeSantis winning a very close election Three years ago In Florida do you think that helped Move Florida more solidly into the red column Do you think that his policies and the way he's governing in Florida moves it even further into the red column where maybe when we get to 24 Florida might not even be the toss up state that it has been Maybe whoever the Republican nominee is won't even have to focus as much energy and time and money as they have in years past in Florida Because desantis and the Republican Party has done such a good job in that state that it's more solid or Republican state than it would have been Do you see what I'm saying Do you see how these local elections actually help put together that puzzle that gives you your Electoral College map

Speaker Newt Gingrich Describes Where the GOP Should Focus Its Attention

"There is this ongoing debate. And I would love your take on it of how much do we talk about of things that happened, like the 2020 election? How much do we focus on things that need to be done? And then how much do we focus on things that are currently happening such as the Biden regime? You're making the argument that we need to have a little bit more of a forward thinking approach. Obviously not discounting, you know, things that happen previously. What's the correct balance in that sense? Well, I think other than stipulating that the 2020 election was raped, where we have a brilliant book by Hemingway and entitled rigs. So it's pretty straightforward. I think we need election reforms overwhelmingly the American people want you to prove who you are. They want the votes to be honest and accurate. And then we're seeing in most of the Republican states serious methodical election reforms to get to honor selections where everybody gets to vote, but we know who they are. We know they're legally a citizen. We know they're allowed to do it. Then I think I was sort of argue for a two step process. Inflation is terrible and is a natural consequence of big government socialism. And therefore, here's what we would do about it. The border being uncontrolled as a disaster. And therefore, here's what we would do about it. So I think as always, it should always be a one punch of them, and then an open hand offering a better future on our side. And I think if we do that, then when we do win and I think we're going to win big next year and even bigger in

"Senate. Republicans are alarmed after afghan refugees walk-off military bases by the hundreds. I thought it was republicans that said we must let all these afghan refugees back into the country invade the world. Invite the world actually. So what do they do. I was just oakland with connor. I said you know instead of actually telling state governors to go arrest these people or to deport them. They wrote a letter. We have the ribbon cutting letter writing. Republicans the senators letter demanding. More information follows a report. Saturday by reuters that at least seven hundred afghans just left the us bases without receiving any services. They're just gone there. Your fellow countrymen now and if you disagree you're racist doesn't matter that afghans don't share western values doesn't matter that there was ridiculously disturbing crimewave in europe that we went into great detail on our program now instead it says while immigration experts told reuters at those individuals are not breaking the law and that military ficials have no legal authority to detain law-abiding afghans. The senators worry that some evacuees are slipping through the alleged cracks in the vetting process. Of course whatever states that they're in if they're republican states. The republican governors won't do anything about it as the law continues to be disregarded next me on that side against the law you just walk off a base. Were you born here you. "President biden's vaccine mandates for larger businesses and federal workers. Continue to face pushback from republican governors. Arkansas governor is hutchinson tells. nbc's meet the press. A federal mandate in. His state will backfire. We're all together in trying to get an increased level of vaccination out in the population. The problem is that. I'm trying to overcome resistance. But the president's actions in a mandate hardens the resistance but npr's mara liasson says. The white house sees the same. Republican states have long had mandates for other vaccines and current vaccine resistance is already dug in. We've seen in poll after poll. That like so many other things in this country and in our politics cova vaccines have been totally politicized the difference between those willing to get vaccinated and those who aren't as partisan and you can see it. On the maps of the counties counties won by president trump have lower vaccination rates than counties won by biden.

The elections should wrap up shortly after september fourteenth question one before the golden state's electorate should governor gavin newsom be recalled question to presents a list of forty six candidates who qualified for the ballot if a majority of votes cast on question. Democrats Battle Republican-Led Voting Curbs in Georgia

"Well we faced a democracy crisis when the president of the united states called georgia's secretary of state on january second and told him to quote find eleven thousand seven hundred and eighty votes. We survived that crisis because the georgia secretary of state refused to lie about the vote. Count and change the vote count so that donald trump could win the state of georgia. Instead of joe biden. Republicans in georgia do not want that to happen again and so they have removed the secretary of state from the position of authority in the aftermath of an election and they have moved georgia closer to the possibility of cheating the vote out next time. Donald trump calls an asks them to do that. And george is not the only state that is trying to make it for donald trump to call and tell them how many votes he needs to win an election. I guess tonight. Ari berman has studied the new election. Laws passed by republican state. Legislatures this year and says quote. "And so I think that that might be another game that's being played here. Kind of. Ah, you know, not just about Donald Trump, but really about trying to limit accessibility to the polls moving forward in 2022 2024. Really scary question, I think is if Georgia Governor Brian Camp And the Michigan State legislative leaders coming to the White House today are willing to join authoritarians world can lack of evidence, even stop them, and I think that's what you're saying. With a few narrow path still open to them has yet to be seen. It's behaving. Some of this is certainly about the politics. In fact, most of it is about the politics. You know, we have seen very little evidence and if there were evidence We would have seen it. I mean, you know if we're talking about widespread voter fraud, you've got President Trump's own. Ah official saying this was the most secure election ever and then getting acts the very next day, So I mean, you know these air not happy times for those that liked the practice of democracy. Yeah. Don't before we go to some phone calls. Does your book about the Electoral college? Go into any of these scenarios or when your book was published in the old days of 2019 was this kind of thing too far fetched to even do research and write about For a 20 year Electoral college expert like yourself? Well, it's great that I, you know, hopefully now I've got a second edition toc certainly right on this, But I gotta tell, you know, I mean, I went into a little bit on contingency elections a little bit on the Electoral Count Act of 18 87. But no in the fact that you're calling me and then others are calling right now you know again is not a happy happy, Ah vision. Democracy because when, when you know when people go when they vote, and they cast their vote they expected to be legitimate and when shenanigans are happening in the five weeks after we vote On. There's a potential to kind of overturn those results, and you can find all kinds of potential loopholes there. That's truly problematic for the republic. By the way, those opinion voting machines were used in states that Trump want to just for the record. Lisa in Nassau County around w. N. Y C with electoral college expert Robert Alexander. Hi. Hi. I wanted to ask So suppose Trump Gets Electors in Michigan to change and vote for him and wouldn't he need all the other states as well? Is that even enough for him to take the results and makes them his So a couple of things one is when when electors are chosen. We have two slates of electors. And if indeed, on November 3rd what happened was that the Democratic electors were selected. I think that the scenario that is being thrown about is that the Republican state Legislature would put their own electors in there as well. The fact that you have a Democrat governor there, those Democrat electors will will cast votes on December 14th. I have no doubt about that. The big question is whether or not you would then have the Republican state Legislature. So their own electorates in there Now, along with that you're absolutely right. You do need 270 Electoral college votes if you fall under that 270 electoral college vote threshold. Naturally would have a contingency election in the House of Representatives and in Michigan alone would not be enough to make that happen. Right. And I think for our listeners who are keeping score at home, we should remind people of the math. Biden has 306 electoral voters based on the states that he won. He needs 270. Show he's 36 boats above that. That means it would take three states at least. Taking that authoritarians lied to give Trump the majority. Pennsylvania has 20 electoral votes. That's the biggest. The other states and play have 16 or less so it would take at least three states. Right? It would and again those votes would be challenged. I would have absolute confidence that they would be challenged in that joint session of Congress when they open those electoral college votes, and they read them aloud. Before the Senate in the House. The fact that and I would expect that even if that doesn't happen, which will very, very unlikely happen that Trump is able to kind of make this scheme occur. That Republicans in the house and the Senate may have an objection. And ah, too, you know, on the basis of fraudulent voting or whatever it will, you know, create more drama. But I don't think it will go anywhere, even January 6 when they meet, But tell me this if everybody sticks to their parties in Congress in that scenario, Who wins Well in in, uh, in that joint session, it would take an affirmative vote in both the house and the Senate. They would. Actually there has to be an inspection from one at least one house member and from one Senate member to entertain that objection. Once the end, the objection is entertained. Then they would retire to their to their own chambers house in the Senate, and they would hear arguments on whatever that objection is. It would require Majority in the House, which is controlled by Democrats right now, so that's that's you know, the ace in the hole that they have on a majority in the Senate, and you've already seen at least three Republican senators come out and with some frustration with with President Trump right now, so Ad again, You know, the numbers in the joint session of Congress do not work for Donald Trump in any kind of disputed election situations. I've heard another version and maybe you can clear up whether this is accurate or not, because I feel like it's out there in the public as well. Um, that Analyzes that scenario with more of an advantage to trump than what you just said. And that is that, if that if the vote goes to the House of Representatives Then it's not the sheer house majority, which we know the Democrats have right now. It's each state's congressional delegation. Gets one vote. And because there are more states that have Republican majority congressional delegations than democratic ones. Then Trump would win..
