"You flashing upon that day. Twenty years ago. I was in for that reason. Probably did have a different impact on me than others that the congress is a very different place than it was twenty years ago. It's a former partisan place it's a place that is much less devoted to institutions of our government. Or at least. There's i should say this much less. Bipartisan support for a commitment to the institutions of our democracy. There are more members there to tear it down than there used to be and the others members haven't been around that long and were elected on platforms of tearing down. There's a long tradition going back to the nation's founding running against the government but people have historically recognized once they have a position responsibility that there's a need to govern and we have a large number members. Now who do not feel responsibility to govern. So i view that with a different perspective than someone who that's been their only experience and it shapes my understanding of things in ways that i can see and probably i can't. We should also note that this anniversary is coming at a time when the country is being challenged by another enemy is not the right word but another sort of malevolent force. And that's the corona virus. Right we are in the midst of a pandemic at the beginning of it. I think there was a sense of. Maybe this can be a rally round the flag moment a chance to feel that we're all in this together. I think it's fair to say that. That is not how that has played out and i wonder what you make of how. The nation has responded to the pandemic contrasted with how it responded to nine eleven. And what that says about where. We are as a country right now. I guess i would take issue with promise. Only in that from the very beginning of the pandemic the former president tried to use the pandemic as political culture so there was never really an opportunity to develop a national consensus that okay. We're facing a common enemy again. It's in the form of a virus this time. Because from the very start the former president was attempting to four make cultural wedge issue about whether we would accept the advice of scientists and health experts about wearing a mask and then suggesting that the leaders at cdc and elsewhere Dr vouch among others. Were simply being hostile to him. They were efforts to distort the morbidity findings when the death rate looked to high there were efforts to push out misinformation about the increasing number of people testing positive and what it meant for the country so it was never the unifying event it should have been and the fact that we didn't have a unified approach because the former administration was attacking the science and attacking. The facts was a tragedy that i think.

Representative Adam Schiff Speaks About 9/11

"The morning of september eleventh. Where we're gale and where were you. I heard that a plane had struck the world trade center. At that point. I was renting an apartment a few blocks away from the capital and i was preparing to walk to the capital When the first plane struck. And i couldn't figure out what i was seeing didn't understand what i was seeing. You know could've plane bring down a whole building and so i was still processing. What was going on. When i left my apartment. Go to the capital to find out what was happening. What our response was going to be. When one of the aircraft hit the pentagon and i heard a boom which i later learned was a secondary explosion in the fuel exploded and there were people streaming through the streets away from the capitol. I was trying to get to the capital to find out where it was congress going to convene. I wanted to make sure that my staff were okay and out of the building. We didn't know that there was still another aircraft that was on its way to the capital and it was just chaos and i remember stopping a policeman and asking. Where's the congress to convene and being told that we were going to meet at the police department which turned out not to be true and then trying to get through to my wife on my phone to let her know. I was okay and we. We finally did connect as i was standing in the street. And let her know where i was and what was going on and that was okay and just remember the the anxiety and her voice. The next i think a couple of hours were spent trying to figure out. Where are we going to convene. And then one of the more memorable parts of that day was when after we did convene a going out to the capitol steps and singing. God bless america together

"So he's got a big investigation going on arrogant. No attorney general Huge investigation here from Axios at Garland's discretion. The DOJ inspector general has opened an investigation into the Trump era. DOJ is use of secret subpoenas. To obtain data belonging to House Democrats again. They only cared when it happened to Democrats. Says. Here's the big picture. At least a dozen people link the House Intelligence Committee. The House Intelligence Committee, including Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, both fierce critics of former President Trump won, by the way had a little relationship with Fang Face still hasn't told us about that had their records sees between 2017 in early 2018 is part of the leak investigation. Democrats in Congress have launched their own investigation they demanded, former Attorney General Bill Barr and Jeff Sessions testified. Not only this shift and small while and others leak away to the media, giving away potentially classified at minimum for official use information because they don't care. I mean, these are obviously partisan hacks committed to the destruction of their political opponents. All any and all people and obstacles get in the way they'll barge right through law regulations. The Real Story Behind The Don McGahn DOJ Subpoena

"Great website. Theresa Munro Hamilton reports that the Department of Justice under the Trump administration secretly subpoenaed information. And former White House counsel Don McGahn, a Democrat. Rep. Adam Schiff, it was leaked to The New York Times, of course, seem to be falling apart. There's no real spying allegedly took place. The story was written by Michael Schmidt. He's a hack Charlie Savage, a hack. Reported quote that the DOJ secretly subpoenaed Apple for personal information on again and his wife in February, 18. And then barred Apple from telling them about the reported move during that time period under a non disclosure agreement. The devil appears to be in the details here, and this may not be the breaking story. The media are apparently running with Schmidt tweeted quote New DOJ secretly subpoenaed Apple for personal info of Trump's then White House done council dime again and his wife in February, 18. The O. J. Bard Apple from telling them at the time, But three years later, May 21 Apple told them. It's unclear what investigation it was related to Clarifying an interesting tweet was then issued by Savage. The co author. Quote, Apple recently told Don McGahn, Trump's former White House counsel. That the Justice Department had secret collected data about his account of a February 2018 subpoena. Caution. You can't conclude from this fact them again was intentionally targeted. It began was not intentionally targeted. Then the whole story is evidently not what was purported to be, You understand, folks. That is for investigating a leak, and there's a whole bunch of people that they're looking into. They're not supposed to investigate a leak. Apparently, that's the case, particularly if it That benefits the Democrats and hurts the country. The accusations do not go into detail about the DOJ investigation. It's unknown what federal investigators were looking into. Even if McGann himself was their primary focus, or whether it was somebody had contact with Apple reportedly did not inform again what they had turned over to DOJ. Report did state that Apple received them again subpoena weeks after another subpoena was issue that was connected to leaks and the Russia probe. The subpoena involves records belonging to California Democratic representatives, Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell. Again. The subpoenas were ostensibly an attempt to identify individuals who leak classified national security information. During Trump administration and were not specifically targeting shift. So they're throwing a

Office of the Director of National Intelligence says it will cease in-person briefings

"The Office of the Director of National Intelligence will no longer briefed Congress in person on election security a move that house speaker, Nancy Pelosi, and intelligence chairman Adam Schiff called quote a betrayal of the public's right to know how foreign powers are trying to subvert our democracy. Joining me now is the chair of the Homeland Security Committee in the Senate Republican Senator, Ron, Johnson of Wisconsin and Mr. Chairman. Thank you so much. I I want to talk about what? Happened in Portland, we saw someone get killed overnight amid clashes there, and the president has been tweeting and re tweeting before dawn this morning he called for the Mayor of Portland to resign and be arrested. He painted protesters as thugs and cities. In chaos. You are the chairman as I mentioned of the Senate Homeland. Security Committee are you comfortable with the present appearing to inflame tensions instead of what we normally see from presidents, which is trying to calm them down. Maury Dan Listen I've been urging calm across the board particularly in light of what happened here in Kenosha but as I said in opening. Statement when we had the acting secretary well before my committee when when you encourage disdain for the police, you encourage criminals when you do little or nothing to stop rioting. You encourage anarchy. So when you're encouraging criminals and anarchy. People's lives are lost you have more more and more destruction more and more violence. So what we need, we need to get control of the situation and until we until we do, we're going to have more violence we're going to have unfortunately. Prep trenchantly more loss of life. So we need to get control the situation we need to encourage calm an here's something else we need to do. We need to figure out what we do all agree on and we share the same goal. We all want to save prosperous and secure America in states and communities. Let's concentrate on those areas of grievance. That's that's how we achieved the unity everybody says they want

"In the morning so speaker Pelosi is now saying that. y'All going to be moving forward sending these articles of impeachment. The Senate took a while. Maybe and Mitch. McConnell hasn't really changed his mind on anything so so what what are you all going to do. That's different and do you anticipate him changing his mind. You just do it. What y'all doing? He'll figure it out that Mitch McConnell is going to change his mind but what I am hoping. Is that the public pressure to have a fair. Trial will mean that these moderate Republican members of the Senate will insist on hearing from people like John Bolton Mick Mulvaney Ovadia and others who have I information about the president's effort to shake down a foreign leader to help him cheat in an election if we had merely rushed the articles over there and given a McConnell the chance to sweep it under the rug before the country could be informed about the kind of non trial he wanted to have. I think it might have led to a different result. At least we have the prospect now of holding senators accountable and insisting on trial with witnesses if McConnell succeeds in dismissing this case without witnesses this is it will be the first impeachment case not just involving a president but involving anyone in the nation's history in which a trial Ford without witnesses Congressman Schiff as your best friend McCain. Hello Ethics aside. Impeachment is a deeply political process and given the intense divided. Divide over the issue and the current standoff. The you guys are having. Do you think just purely political was a good political move for Democrats and is there any indication nation that this has damaged president trump because poll numbers say that. It hasn't the if you're going to look at the poll numbers what you'll see over the last three months. Is the country moving from a majority of Americans believing that we shouldn't even have an impeachment investigation to overwhelming support for the investigation and a majority although a narrow majority of Americans saying that the Senate should convicted remove the president from office. So that's been a pretty substantial change. In terms of what impact it will have in in November. I really can't say that's not a question. Frankly I've been asking myself because I don't think that's my role. I think we in the house had to determine is this the right thing to do is this the constitutionally required to do and what convinced me megan and you may recall. I was not eager to go down. The road to impeachment is when the President committed this this latest and most egregious misconduct shakedown of the cranium. President withheld military support to an ally at war and was on the phone literally the a day after Bob Muller testified the day after the president believed he had escaped accountability for the first foreign interference to help his election. He was back at added again. That told me that he believes he is above the law unaccountable and we needed to move forward even if the Senate won't do their constitutional duty. We in the house need to do ours. Yeah I mean I gotta the argument. That President Clinton's impeachment trial lasted only a month. And if that's the case that Democrats for running for President in two thousand twenty are going to be holed up on the hill instead of campaigning. Well into the first two primaries so say what you will about the constitution and duty this. This will hurt Democrats politically disagree. We'll look I think senator is are doing their job if they are being impartial jurors if they are doing doing their duty under the constitution that ought to a noor to their benefit. I've always felt that the best campaign was simply doing a good job and I don't think voters are going to hold it against senators editors for taking the impeachment of president nited States seriously. So I don't think it should be an impediment to them but more important. I don't think it's a question of say what you will about the constitution. I think it is our duty to uphold the constitution and if we allow a president to behave like this we allow a president. Hasn't this president or any other to seek foreign help to coerce foreign help in A. US Election President obstruct any investigation into their own wrongdoing. Doing that is going to have enormous repercussions. We're going to have to expect a far greater degree of corruption and malfeasance not only with this president but any other in the future. So there's there's a lot at stake here and if it means that senators off the campaign trail for a couple more weeks. I think it's worth the trade. Hi Joy Behar speaking right now. So the good news is seventy one percent of Americans want to hear from witnesses at the Senate trial they really do and but I have a quick. If that doesn't happen how seriously are you considering calling new witnesses like Bolton in the house you guys never issued a subpoena for Bolton. Because because he said he'd fight it. Will you wish you were now. He sounds like he's interested in coming by and and testifying. What are you going to do? We are considering whether to subpoena the house. So if we're approaching this rashly. Though the senators will be the trier's of fact they should hear from the witness first hand. It makes little sense to have the house. Deposed opposed John Bolton and then submit that position to the Senate the Senate ought to hear from him quite directly. I also have to say that. I'm skeptical that Mr Mr Bulletin will appear before the House refused to in the past. He's only said he will appear before a Senate subpoena. And yes we could expose that. There's no constitutional the two tional or legal basis to distinguish between the House and Senate subpoena but our goal is not to make John Bolton. Look bad or expose the hypocrisy of that position. Our goal is to have a fair trial in the Senate to let the senators evaluate the evidence and unless the senators are prepared to say. There's no factual issue to contest past. We fully accept. The House has made the case that the president did withhold a did withhold. This White House meeting did try to extort the Ukrainian leader to help them cheat in the election and unless they're willing to say that there's no factual dispute the senators need to hear from these additional witnesses. There's really no case to be made against it and and one final point and this is often neglected. The documents may be every bit as important. The president has refused to provide a a single document in the investigation. We've never had this kind of a wholesale obstruction of Congress. Those documents may be very telling and undoubtedly very damning Ming because the ones that have come out most recently once again reveal incriminating fashion of the presence misconduct. So those documents need to be produced reduced as well Congressman Abby Huntsman. Here thank you for joining us. Actually have a question on the witnesses that we've been talking about. Do you worry that if you open the door to innocence like John Bolton that Republicans Publican's we're talking about a fair trial Republicans they're going to call in the Biden's even you to testify trump reemphasised calls for you and for Speaker Nancy Pelosi over the weekend tweeting all about that. Joe Biden has said that he would not testify. Then he said he would testify Would you if asked to be willing to testify if you were subpoenaed Look I I'm not a fact witness so other than mollifying the president. I'm not sure why the Senate would call me or Nancy. Pelosi a witness trial though now you could very well see the case where the Biden's would have to be there. You think that is a good thing politically you think. That's a good thing for impeachment. As a whole I think what the senators would have to evaluate. Wait is do the by this any relevant testimony and I think the answer is that they don't know what is at issue here is whether the president withheld military aid withheld withheld official acts like a White House meeting in order to coerce a country to announce investigations not even conduct them but just announce them to help smears opponent opponent. And there's not much light that Joe by one hundred Biden can shed on the president's conduct so yes senator show up and just say if you have nothing to Hyde then come out there and tell the American people that because they want to go would it would convert the Senate trial into the same kind of a sham preceding that the president sought to have have Ukraine undertake. There's been no factual basis for these allegations against the Joe Biden no factual basis for the allegation that Ukraine not. Russia interfered the two thousand sixteen election. that as a Russian propaganda talking point and to ask the Senate do these investigations. That the president Fraudulently sought ought to get Ukraine to conduct would merely turn the Senate trial on its head. Now that's something the president would love. But that's not a fair trial that's a sham trial and and so I think what the centers ought to do is they should take their to be impartial seriously and it make this a serious a fair trial fair to the president yes but also fair to the American People Adam the shifts you're gonNA stick around we're going to talk a little bit more when we come.

"Billionaires corporate executives and their favourite presidential candidates have one unclear goal to convince you that everything you imagine is impossible to convince you that because no one is pure for its point once to try to make anything better in context of the last week. She's really seems to be talking about you. There suggesting your favorite the presidential candidate of the of the billionaires corporate executives that that you want to tell the American people that policies they want are impossible. What's your response? I'm not running based on what's impossible. I'm running based on. What's possible a bold policy agenda? They would make me the most progressive president. We've had in a half century that we can do in a way that will actually unify. And not polarized more of the American people. You know the things that I am offering up the things that we've talked about in this campaign would be game changers on everything from access to healthcare to affordability college to the ability to just get ahead and the basic principle that one job ought to be enough in the United States of America. I'm running for president based on the opportunity to do big and bold things and and anybody who thinks otherwise should pay attention to what it is that I'm proposing our country do Senator Warren has said that she will not appoint any high dollar donors as ambassadors acid irs. Will you make the same commitment. Anybody I appoint any office will be qualified. And they'll be there based on their readiness to do the job now if I'm trying to figure out who ought to be a senior envoy to deal with a let's say Afghanistan and Pakistan and somebody emerges as the right person for that job with the best qualifications all affiliations. ARE THEY GONNA turn out to be disqualified because they came to a House party for my campaign years earlier. No No. We're talking about big time. What is best big GOLIC honors? Not just something. The maximum donation allowed is two thousand eight hundred Bundler as monies for super PACs. I mean you know how it works. Yeah and how it's going to work in my administration. Is that any candidate to be appointed to any important position will be there on their merits. And we'll be neither qualified qualified nor disqualified based on the idea that they supported and believed in my campaign. One last question for you. You have touted the fact eh midwestern roots as an example of how you can be president trump senator Klobuchar and others have pointed out that you lost your only bid for Statewide Office in Indiana by twenty twenty five points. So why should voters by your argument that you could win Michigan when you lost Indiana by so much statewide. Well Indiana's a little bit different than Michigan. Look I'm big on the idea of midwesterners running for president What I'm offering a mid Westerner who has executive experience building building an administration leading a government guiding population in addition to the military experience and other experiences I bring to the table? You know one thing that most presidents and and most of our nominees have had in common in modern times is losing an election or to under no illusion. What I was up against the first time Iran is as an unknown figure in and twenty one of the biggest Republican years in history in Indiana one of the most conservative states in the nation? But I'm still proud of the race that we ran back when I was up for state treasurer because The central issue in that race was about standing up for auto workers. It's a long story but the basic issue in that race was about bringing back the. US auto industry. And I knew running in in Indiana in a year like that. On a platform of defending Barack Obama's economic policy was not very likely to lead to an easy win. But it was still the right thing to do and I gotTa Tell Tell You. I have learned as much from the races and the moments in life. That didn't go my way as I have from the ones that did they made me a better candidate and they would make me a better president former mayor Pete Buttigieg. Thank you so much for joining us. This morning we appreciate it. My next guest is another leading Democratic candidate. Who will join the judge on the debate stage later this month as another others split emerging among the twenty two this time over foreign policy joining me now from Dubuque Iowa is Democratic presidential candidate Massachusetts? Senator Elizabeth Warren Senator. Thanks thanks so much for joining us. We really appreciate it. Thank you for having me this morning. It's good to be here so you call the US. Attack that killed Qassem Soleimani quote assassination. President Ford issued an executive order. Seventy six to make political assassinations illegal. Are you saying that this strike was a violation of law. Look it was a targeted attack on a government official high ranking military official for the government of Iran. And what it's Don. John has moved this country closer to war. We are not safer today than we were before. Donald trump acted. I think the question that we ought to focus on one is why now why not a month ago. Why not a month from now and the answer from the Administration seems to be? They can't keep their stories straight on this. They pointed in all different directions. And you know the last time we watched them do. This was the summer over Ukraine. As soon as people started started asking about the conversation between Donald Trump and the president of Ukraine y aid had been held up to Ukraine the administration did the same thing they pointed in all directions about what was going on and of course what emerged in is this was donald trump just trying to advance donald trump's own political agenda. Do not the agenda The United States of America. So what happens right now next week. The president of the United States could be facing an impeachment richmond trial in the Senate. We know he's deeply upset about that and I think people are reasonably asking why this moment why does he. He picked now to take this highly inflammatory highly dangerous action that moves US closer to war. We've we've been at war for twenty years in the Middle East. We need to stop the war in the Middle East not expand. So are you suggesting. The president trump pulled the trigger and had Qassam Sulamani killed as a distraction from from impeachment. Look I think people are reasonably asking about the timing and why why it is that the administration seems to have all kinds of different answers in the first forty eight hours after this attack. What did we hear? Well we heard it was for an imminent attack attack. Then we heard no no it was to prevent any kind of future attack. Then we heard from the vice president himself was related to nine eleven and and then we heard from press reports of people in the intelligence community saying the whole that the threat was overblown when the administration ministration doesn't seem to have a coherent answer for taking a step like that and they have taken a step that moves us closer to.

"More. Now on our top story reaction to the release of the Miller report, California, congressman democrat, Adam Schiff chair of the house Intel. L committee still floating the concept of impeachment even though the report finds no evidence of Trump Russia collusion. Here's congressman Schiff. We need to look at the full report, certainly what Bob Muller has revealed on the obstruction of Justice issue is the most concerning because that of course involves the president's own conduct his own falsehoods. The American people is efforts to get other people to tell lies is effort to deter people in cooperating with the investigation is effort to reward those who stuck to the party line and congressman Schiff continues those acts of obstruction of Justice, whether they are criminal or not are deeply alarming in the president of the United States. And it's clear the special counsel Muller wanted the congress to consider the repercussions and the consequences. It is clear the special counsel believed that no one was above the law, and that includes the president of the United States.
