St. Louis Cardinals' Nolan Arenado Returns to Coors Field

"Us to check in. With our Hall of Fame baseball writer and Rockies insider Tracy Wrinkles be of inside the seams dot com Tracy Always great to have you. Thank you. Well, it's great to be here. Let's first talk about the return of Nolan Ah, Renato, regardless of how things ended. The fact of the matter is Nolan did amazing things with the Rockies. And while it's different to see him here with the Cardinals There's no denying what he accomplished in purple is there? No, I mean, here's a fan favorite. He played hard every day. He played his heart earlier I've ever seen day in and day out. A little bit different personality, But you know, all of us have a little bit different personality, right? We're not all the same, but I think he, uh, he gave Iraqis everything that could possibly give him when he was here, and he reached the point where he wanted to move on. Um, it's not the first guy on earth that did it, And so the Rockies accommodated him, and then they deal with ST Louis. Do they get everything they wanted to return? No. When a player has a no trade, cause he's going to have control. Over where he goes, and you know, I think with Gamber alone they did fairly well and they got a pretty good starting pitcher right there. But, you know, I think it's great to see the fans welcome him back.

"How many months in prison is this person. Gonna get for this crime and how much. How much resources are we gonna have to put into trying this case and so that's the sort of calculus. Justice is not a perfect thing ever in this country. That's for sure we all know that is very far from perfect but while i think appropriate thing prosecutors do as they figure out wh what's in the public interest in terms of prosecutorial resources so i just think that's part of the equation. Yes like jacob chancellor for example pretty much who. You just described what he did. His lawyers are his defense attorneys. Know that they want to. You know come to a deal. And and so they have a little bit of leverage there because they know that the doj doesn't want to clog up the the docket with those types of cases so yeah. I think i think we're looking at probably going to look at some settling for things a little bit left. But you're right. The judge has to take into account. It's gonna be interesting to see how these come down but you know renato if we see for example one of these Donohoe or figs or you know some of these proud boys the if they continue to plead not guilty refused to cooperate they go to trial. We're looking at like next year. You know it's bring a long time. Yeah i mean. I i will tell you i have. I have Cases that are scheduled for trial next year. I'm not sure if they're going to go on time. Because even though these cases overcharged late last year is just. There's so much of a delay and so much backlog right now and you know. I have cases where the judge is like. I don't even have a spot on my calendar right now..

"Top. So let's do that. Let's hit the hothouse hot notes. So there's an interesting with rudy giuliani. And i'm gonna talk a little bit more about rudy later in the show with renato maryadi. We're also going to talk about the greenberg plea deal but in recent weeks former guy has argued behind closed doors that he wouldn't want to say giuliani was doing all of the ukraine work on trump's behalf right all of that transatlantic dirt digging expeditions on the on the biden family that eventually led to trump's first impeachment. Well trump doesn't want to say he's he's argued that he doesn't wanna come out and make a public statement that the chew leoni was just doing it on on trump's behalf that's according to a person close to the former president. Trump's reasoning is based in the ex-president's insistence that. He didn't always know what giuliani was doing. During the ukraine effort on concocting bullshit with his ukrainian powell's several of whom trump is privately dinged as idiots quote unquote calling the kettle. Go yeah in trouble now. Two sources close to the former guy. Each said trump has repeatedly expressed sympathy for rudy's ongoing woes but has not committed to overtly assisting him another person familiar with the situation told the daily beast. Giuliani said he remains convinced. That trump won't abandon him who will step up when the time is right. He can't i. Don't understand if julie if rudy giuliani realizes that he can't otherwise he implicates right. He's also civilian now like it's just you. You're putting your money on the wrong horse or do they. I think they truly has repeatedly argued that his effort to oust marie ivanovich and his you know his three amigos. The idiots that went over ukraine then carried out solely on behalf of trump trying to give himself cover for not registering as a foreign agent quote nothing. Donald trump may say publicly to help. Giuliani is likely to get into evidence. That's according to david lav man who's a partner at wiggin and dana and a former chief justice department's counterintelligence and export control section which oversees federal prosecutions. He said he goes on to say. Giuliani's attorney will be able to cross. Examine the government's witness if he's charged. Giuliani always has the option of testifying in his own defense idea bad idea but any press statements by donald trump to the effect of. Hey he was working for me. Almost certainly are not going to come into evidence it's highly improbable for trump to testify for giuliani. The notion of guiliani trying to use the attorney client privileges shield would go out the window. The privileges held by trump. not by giuliani. Remember if he throws giuliani under a bus. That's not an oil leak. That's giuliani's hair dye. Just coming off his face in his face again. Somebody my god this next story to me is there's so much craziness about it. A colorado man who was recently charged with murder charged with murder and the disappearance of his wife. A year ago has also been charged with voter fraud for voting for donald trump in the twenty twenty presidential election using his wife's mail in ballot. And this is. According to an affidavit barely more few last week was charged with murder. As i said he was charged tampering with physical evidence and attempting to influence a public servant in connection with the death of his wife. Suzanne more few now. Suzanne was reported missing may tenth twenty twenty an arrest warrant filed in chaffee county colorado on thursdays shows berry. He faces charges of forgery and offenses related to mail ballots. So the affidavit shows that a chaffee county clerk reported that alleged voter fraud on october. Twenty second twenty twenty after receiving a voter ballot pre-designated for a missing person identified as suzanne rene more few now while the ballot did not have a voter signature. It had a handwritten name of berry lee more few on the designated signature line for a witness. Now the of course just as the witness because no one else was signing this. According to the affidavit when fbi agents interview berry on april twenty second twenty twenty one. This was just last month. He told them he did it. Because he wanted trump to win reelection now barry replied just because i wanted trump referring to the former guy to win and i just thought give him referring to the former guy another wrote that's going to give them another vote. Moorefield alleged allegedly also said. I figured all these other guys cheating. I know she was going to vote for trump anyway so he allegedly told investigators that he didn't know it was illegal to vote for your spouse mind you. He's been arrested for murdering her. So apparently he's a little iffy with the law in general. What if she told him she was going to vote for biden and then he's why he took her out and then he and then he yeah rubbed her out and voted for trump and set. What if that was his whole purpose. I wouldn't i bless. We needs a mental health reform in this country. My god he is scheduled to be back in court again on. May twenty seven yeah. I'm sure i'm sorry. Excuse me our do make fun. I'm not making fun of your name. Just wanna make sure that i help. Your brand is matter ambushed. You all right next up. This is troubling because secretary state. Anthony blinken said monday. "Took nearly five weeks. 34 days more than 800 hours. But Thursday night, the drought finally came to an end. It was a nightmare to say the least hard practice yesterday, a positive attitude and a little turnaround tonight when number one is a head coach for Don Renato, snapping this 18 game winless stretch their first victory in 19 as they surround Lena's hallmark and a 61 win. Over the Philadelphia Flyers favors win. Haven't been able to say that since February, 25th Nbcsn with call prior to Wednesday, Buffalo had gone Oh 15 and three since their win in late February. It was the second longest winless streaks and shoot outs were introduced in the NHL in 2005, and they tied the 0506 Penguins for the most consecutive losses, including overtime and shootouts. In the 21st century. Over the 18th team in NHL history to go winless over an 18 game span. But the futility of Buffalo is over for at least one night

A source told cnn among the reported changes and decor with the addition of a white marble and dark wood which the president has removed. I'm going to go guess it's because of the dark. Would i'm sure he has no problem with the white marble. Ag he would love your store. He loves gold right he. He wasn't everything to be gold and gold plated and brass and so if he sees clean lines and you know neutral finishes. He's probably like not enough gold lions. Yeah and the president spurned. I'm just furious that a lot of the people that are going to be. There probably already got the vaccine. Because they're part of his inner circle so the president trump's urine parties at mar-a-lago they're always really lavish and you know the palm beach post reported and after drawing hundreds of guests while there is no official word on the size of this year's guest-list and reports that a member of mar-a-lago heard buzz at least five hundred. Reservations have already been confirmed. I wonder if there's going to be like palm pao's christmas party where you'd like nine hundred people and seventy showed up so he just refused to come down and give his speech. I wonder if it's gonna be like that. I mean i would love to think so but they think this guy's their messiah. I think they're going to put their lives in danger for this idiot. That will decide control the us. Senate judge leslie abrahams gardner. The sister of former gubernatorial candidate stacey abrams a prominent ally of president. Elect joe biden. Who has led voter. Registration efforts across the state concluded that the county's appeared to have improperly relied on unverified change of address data to invalidate registrations into counties the bulk of the registrations that the county sought to rescind more than four thousand were in muskogee county which biden won handily in november an additional one hundred and fifty were from ben hill county which trump won by a wide margin. The suit brought by marjorie. Excuse me like marjorie forward. Majority forward represented by the national democrat. Democratic party attorney. Marc elias followed effort to challenge the lengthy roster of voters so that the lawsuit was actually brought by democrats to challenge the purge good and this followed an effort to challenge the lengthy roster voters simply because their registrations appeared to match. Georgia Gov. Sues Atlanta Over Face Masks

"Governor camp. Basically does a shore headline. is suing. The bear because she She's bringing Atlanta back to the stricter phase, the strictest phase of reopening and this is amidst rising cases. Atlanta has one third of the state's cases right now in Georgia's cases in general are going up, as are a lot of different cities and states cases right now we're not in a good place with covid and Kemp is saying that he's going to move forward with the lawsuit, saying that he will not stand down because the mayor's disastrous policies threatened the lives and livelihood of our citizens, and this is so. This is really interesting to me because you have a governor that refuses to mandate masks even though. The case are going up. He says he won't go past. Just strongly suggesting that people wear them, and then you have a mayor that is more concerned, obviously about the pulse citizens and is choosing to require this. This mask mandates are enforce it, but what is so interesting to me? Is You know this question of WHO's more, powerful, a governor or a mayor and I was looking through in doing some research before we hopped on here and it seems like the precedent exists in Kemp's favor right now in terms of him issuing an executive order, but it's GonNa be litigated litigated in court. And, the mayor is welcoming that opportunity to argue this corporate I feel like. They're gonNA have to successfully argue that the health of citizens are objectively one hundred percent more at risk with his policy verses. Hers may be for her to be able to enforce that. Directly in contradiction to Kemp's order so. That's yeah, and I think a good argument here. I'm sorry to interrupt I think a good argument. Here would be wide just why just the mayor of Atlanta? wikileaks bottoms? Why is he not? Any other mayor who's mandating masks in rolling back the reopening of the states of the of their of their cities. It's just her and I think he might have a hard time. Proving why it's just her. And not. Any of the other mayors that that are that are doing this. Yeah Yeah, that's I I wasn't aware that other mayors and other cities. We're doing the same. As as she was, if that's the case then. Well I guess if he's just. Suing her directly. She doesn't get to increase her bench of. Defendants. But. Or, can't she? Could she get other mayors to sign onto the lawsuit? Can you do that? She's the defendant right right he's. Yes, so I mean she can bring any witnesses that she wants. But I just find it remarkable that that the only black woman mayor is the one that's being sued so right point being if other mayors are doing the exact same thing then maybe. If the you know outside of them, just coming as witnesses, they wanted to actually litigated that in in maybe a separate. Case or court or something with all of them together. I don't know because it seems like this has the. To set some serious precedent moving forward. pan-demic precedent it's public health precedent basically, so it's. It's really interesting to me.

"Alright everybody welcome back a so before the break we were discussing the identity of the alleged gunman in the tragic shooting at the home, a federal judge Solace and joining me to discuss is a former federal prosecutor. Renato Mariotti Renato thanks for agreeing to speak with me on such short notice absolutely anytime so I i. want to make clear that while I usually enjoy speculation. We put beans on things all the time. We have a phrase for it I always. Always. Want to wait until I have the facts and I want to encourage everyone to do the same especially in this case, because we still don't know the motive, and I want to discourage people from speculating on feeding conspiracy theories here because I think it can actually do damage to the family and harm the family, and this has to be a very difficult time for them, but I wanted to speak with you about the identity of the alleged gunman. Lawyer Lauren Men's rights. Activists Roy Den Hollander and I was wondering if you could tell us what you know about him. Yeah you know I was doing a little poking around the Internet He's an interesting character. kind of want. He seems like the sort of guy who would ordinarily represent Devon Nunez. You know a sort of off the wall. whacky lawyer. But. ironically graduated from Jd from Washington University and his. You know he's filed these kinds of this men's rights. Activists Guy who's filed lawsuits. Regarding, for example, ladies nights at the Bar of NATO outlawing those making sure that trying to, he followed the Wasi complaining about trump's coverage. Who is not was not an appropriate, just like a total wack job, and of course he's also got. His work experience all sorts of bizarre things you know for example in his younger years very large New York law firm, cravat very prestigious law firm then. He went to Russia for nine years. And ended up working kroll there, which is a sort of a a a kind of intelligence. And investigations firm very unusual that you know. He spent that time over season that now he's been back in filing all sorts of manner of lawsuits. Here in New York over the last twenty years, and apparently yeah, he had had a case or has a case pending. Still doing more research on this. Oh I. You know. This is from my minimal like frontloaded understanding of what's happening here, but there was apparently a case. that he was arguing in front of this judge, or had argued in front of this judge that he won that had to do with He believed that women should register for the draft just like men did, but I think the larger pointed. A of this is that he did try a case with this judge, and so we we still have no clue with the motive is. This gunman has been found alleged gunman I should say has been found. Dead apparently from a self inflicted gunshot wound in a car in New York, and so far. That's really all we know. Other than just looking at has passed resume. And you know as you said I agree with you that we shouldn't be speculating too much about it. I will say that you know. We had a case here in Chicago about twenty years ago where we had a federal judge, whose husband and mother were killed by a gunman who turned out to be a white nationalists who had litigated case in front of her and a similar sort of thing, and I, think one. One thing that it it it bears mentioning. Is that being a federal judge? Unfortunately, put you on the front lines. There's a lot of aggrieved crazy people who are filing cases arguing cases, and you know who knows what steps they'll take. It's why we have to is important to protect their federal judges exactly and her husband was also I believe a prosecutor, and so that opens the door to other motives that you know we. We could like I said we can speculate all day a however I just particularly finger in this case where there is a grieving family I mean this you know she. She lost her child. It's just gotta be so devastating that we just WANNA. Make sure that we're very careful. Not to go overboard. Wait to see what the facts are as they come out because this is obviously being investigated, and it will be investigated thoroughly. But you know I, just it's. It's an odd. It's just an odd series of events. Yeah, I think so and you know look. There's been a lot of speculation given the cases, the judge handling given how unusual this guy is, and what I I will say to everyone is. We do need to. Fully investigate this I. do think when when this when I first saw this. Mike while this is going to drive conspiracy theories for years to come. And who knows what the the re I mean we. We don't know and I. We're going to find out more I. Get why people are. Concerned I get why people are. Already speculating I admit I, tweeted about his resume earlier today because I found it so bizarre and I raise questions for me. You know when I was a federal prosecutor. I could investigate the questions that were raised now I can't and so I really have to have faith at the prosecutors. In the southern district of new. York, for example going to really. Fully carefully. This matter. Yeah and I think that you know because of Jeffrey. Berman's actions with the botched resignation tried to be forced upon him by bill. Bar who then refused to leave unless his predecessor Audrey Strauss took over the office. I think that that can give us a little bit of faith in their. You know a little more faith than we would have had had had. They installed who they wanted to install. So I think it's best for us to just wait and see what comes out of this investigation. Before we jump on any conspiracy. Theory bandwagon wagons. You know exactly right I think for for me right now. I'm just taking note of it. There's a lot of topics and a lot of things out. There were all trying to. You know you know beyond. Be informed. Part of what's going on here I. Think it's important. We're our for our. Our hearts go out to the judge and in the meantime GonNa GonNa Watch carefully as we all should be doing during this. Difficult time for our country yeah, one hundred percent, and it is art. It is in our human nature to speculate on these things like you know I've. I've sort of come to the realization the reason I'm able to be on top of all the news. Maybe not today. It's Kinda crazy today. But. In boil it down into digestible bits for everyone to listen to is because of my need to feel like I'm in control of something, and by knowing what all the news is, and knowing what all the past news is, and being able to sort of speculate on things that sort of gives me. A tiny sense of control in an absolutely chaotic administration, but I really do just just like you said I want to just hold back here and. Be patient you know it's..

Who is living by herself? They are all well over the age of seventy and should not go out unless they have to. When I was doing my most recent shop I text the single lady for her list and she said Vodka Limes and the biggest box of cheese. It's you can find. That's amazing. I asked if there was anything else she needed. She said Nope rock on lady. Yeah I know there's nothing else in your life that you need other than vodka lines in a giant box cheese like you're covered. That's a good episode Title Vodka. Limes and the biggest box of cheeses long. But yeah maybe we can make it work. We can make. It is pretty long. Okay this next. One is from deep state listener. That's the name they gave and they say confession as fed. I am very conscientious about what I post on social media. I also have a large number of friends and colleagues who are trumpsters. Any who I was watching the occupied Democrats video about Fox News breaking into trump's press briefing about his malaria drug use issuing immediate warning not to listen to trump's advice hours later. I realized I had actually shared the video during working hours. A hatchback violation normally. I would remove the post but fuck it. I'm leaving that Shit Up. Nice I feel you. Sorry that's par dog everyone dog. It's a choice between do. I have him in the office studio area with me where he stays more quiet or do I have him on the other side of the door. We'll he'll bark and whine for me until I let him in. So yeah inside. Sounds better byerly says. Hello. Please get attention. Schnoodle noodle the next the next confessions from anonymous co-conspirator and one thing I'm loving is that confessions are responding to other confessions. Now were like prompting New People to submit based on what other people have said so from Anonymous Co Conspirator. They say four anonymous secret door dash bring diversion person. Here's an idea. Plant some flowers by the front door every day when door dash arrives. Take your large bag of gardening supplies outside to water the flowers taking care to spray the ring camera to obscure momentarily retrieve food place in bag with guarding equipment and enter beautiful. Yeah thank you. Thank you for the for the tips Jordan. I were trying to figure that out yesterday. Like how can she do it? How can we make this happen? So I'm glad that somebody wrote in with that. That's good let's so funny. The next might be my most favorite confession of all time. And this is this one is for you A. G. From anonymous I must admit with some trepidation and not to make any of you uncomfortable but I become shall we say physically aroused whenever ag says Renato. Marietta it's nothing else. She or anyone else. Podcast says or does and not obsessing objectified here. It's just whenever I hear Ag. Say Ronaldo. Mariotti I get that feeling. I ENJOY OF USE REPORTS. Insights commentary interviews the humor and the giggling and of course the squares and. I really am a serious listener and patriots supporter. I swear I just have to admit it's something about the way says Renato Mariotti. The skits my motor running. I know she'll probably saying it just the way. He told her to sure. Whenever I hear say it well I should probably stop here. That's amazing and we have Renato on the show today. That's so great. How do you see Renato Mariotti? Yeah I pronounce it the way that when you know he came to our live show he was with us in Chicago on July. Twenty seventh By the way that's the day that the House Judiciary Committee filed for the Muller Grand Jury Materials Which was granted a stay today But yeah he he came to Chicago and I when he came to our live. Show just to make sure how do we? How do we see your name or I might have asked him before? When he appeared on our show on muller she wrote for an interview but yeah Renato Mariotti so well. You have a Superfan so funny. I'm telling you making it able to be fully anonymous when you submit. Your confessions has been the best move. Because they're getting better and better with no email address on no twitter account connected to people's confessions are like fuck it. I'm going to go for it and I appreciate your bravery okay. This is Last one will do here in the suite. Confessions unless we have time to do one more. But we'll we'll we'll do this one first okay from anonymous. I utilize multiple screens at work to larger monitors and a laptop. I have meetings for my laptop because of the camera and if I need to look information I can pop over to. My Monitor is with these while. I an eight of my colleagues waiting for supervisor to join our zoom call. I finished up an email and thought I would grab some hand lotion. While the other started their agenda items realizing by lotion was behind my laptop I stood up. Slightly enriched over to grab. It wasn't until I heard male colleagues. Say Okay uncomfortably. An all conversation stopped that I realized by camera was not off as a typically is and I had just given all of my colleagues a close up view of my cleavage and they had all basically moated me. Oh my God says. She participates in all of their faces. By the way. This was only my second meeting with my new team. I was mortified. First Split second and then quickly recovered the professional that I am. I showed them all my tub of Lotion. Instead with his hand washing we cannot neglect our cubicles. I gave them a good story and something to roast man later. I have no regrets. No definitely that's that's great. That's amazing I think showing your cleavage to your colleagues. Could be a bonding experience. You know good for you. It is and it wasn't intentional. Hey but funny though I bet you. I bet you like hundreds if not thousands of our listeners have accidentally shown people something they didn't show the Mon- zoom call at least she didn't flush the toilet on a supreme court call. I remember that that was great. I think that's I think that's our time. Yeah it is. Thank you so.

"I don't take a strong is strong or aggressive of you. Is that on towards us? I I think you. I don't think this is a mandatory recused by bar. I think but I think he should in other words. My view of IT IS I. I don't think any of these things if if bars a different person and had may different public statements or none you know if he was the bar that some people I always skept. I was against his His confirmation from the beginning but if people who supported him if he was a a fair minded type person. I don't think these things would necessarily be disqualifying but given his. Public statements end the distrust that many rightfully including a federal judge Have a have had of his own statements. I he he somebody who could who there could be a perception of bias in a of of unfairness in an process. So you wouldn't want somebody who should recuse not absolutely mandatory. But he should be recusing and to me. These statements would would make it so that that would be almost certain you know in other words. If this was anyone else they would they would certainly be taken off the case at this point making public statements in the middle of an investigation offering their personal opinions and anticipated conclusions. You know federal prosecutors. Don't just give conclusions and opinions. You either indite somebody or you don't and that's usually how that goes so you know I it's. It's a very very surprising. Very disturbing very politicized and weaponized agency at the moment. So we we just. We just got a vote. That's pretty much the the solution here. I think in November and hopefully the post office won't get shut down and we can somehow vote by mail if if we you know. Trump reopens the country too early and we get some second wave of the corona virus. We we're going to need to vote by mail. Indeed all right well thank you so much. "So joining us for the interview today as former federal prosecutors CNN legal analyst and host of one of my favorite podcasts has called on topic. It's our friend Renato Mariotti. We're not a welcome back to Moeletsi route. How are you know great? Always glad to be back on muller she wrong we are so happy to have you and Because you help so much with like the legal analysis of so many different things that are coming out I remember you were at our Chicago. Show live You know the day that bar excuse me the day that I think Nadler filed for the underlying muller documents With the court so this is alike. This is along those lines so I wanted to give you a call like memories. I had were not memory. Sue just this week. Judge Judge Reggie Walton. Who's a Bush appointee? Which normally I wouldn't bring up a normally doesn't matter until trump got here but it Reggie Walton ordered the Department of Justice to hand over the fully unredacted Muller report citing bars rollout of the Miller report suspicious thereby questioning bars credibility. And so I was thinking I mean those are really strong words from a from a sitting judge about the sitting attorney general and I was wondering what your top line reaction to the ruling was. Yeah I would. I was surprised I wasn't I one hundred percent with the judges conclusions and frankly I think anybody who is a thinking person who's looking at bars letter for example that he wrote that supposedly was summarizing. Muller report I think it's hard not to see that he was being deceptive after all if you'd literally cut off sentences you know quotes mid sentence he would quote like portions of the. Muller said and it would be very highly misleading. Clear that he was deliberately misleading the book. And but it's really something for judge to say that I mean essentially what what Judge Walton was saying. Is You know we you are you. The government are asking us to trust you when it comes to these these foyer right actions. I don't trust you because you know showed that. He had a lack of credibility throughout this entire process. Then you may believe I believe but to hear a federal judge is really something and in parallel. You know as this ruling is coming out. We have we get another six hundred. Page dump from the buzzfeed. Jason Leopold Foia Request on the Muller member memos which of course are highly redacted. And so I think that it's and I remember. Judge Walton saying early on these reactions had better be on the up and up or I will go through each one of them to determine their you know their appropriateness and so I wonder if that sort of where he's heading with this. What do you think about that? Yeah I think he's essentially they're asking think he wants to see what they call it in camera in other words I think the judge wants to review the underlying unredacted documents himself. He's GonNa go through and he's going to see if the right actions are appropriate and that is unusual. I mean look anyone who's ever foy at something we'll tell you. The usually you get back are few pages fold with Black Black Marker Through them redacting and you know then You know A statement a letter. That says that there's a whole bunch of other documents that are being without. They fit within exceptions foyer. A very important tool journalists use it but the fact of the matter is that the exceptions often are so large they swallow up the rule and agencies have every incentive to aggressively interpret those Those exceptions and essentially you know what he's saying. Is You know the Justice Department released a statement saying hey far wasn't behind the right actions. It was career employees who did him. And what essentially The judges saying look because of the bars action. It really hurt the credibility of the entire department. I can't trust you going forward and I also think you judge Walden You know deter reverent and other friend of of Muller she wrote Andrew McCabe Judge Walton was involved in a prior suit bobbing Foia Foia request or mccade documents and he expressed serious concerns about the prosecution. Saying well it's like a Banana Republic the way that that would be undertaken. And of course he's a former federal federal prosecutor himself. I think he views it through a lens. That's that's very informed. I think from his perspective is concerned about what's going on at the J. Yeah that's right. Judge Walton as you pointed out was the judge who gave an ultimatum to the Department of Justice that they need to defy fish or cut bait. They had to either charge. Mccabe closed the case or release. These documents the you know the firing documents that that were in the in the foyer case. So he He seemed to have not a lot of patients. For what's been going on over at the DOJ and you you you you said the DOJ has responded to this suit but I read their response and it doesn't seem they don't seem to be defending bars. Roll out of the Miller report more. They seem to be jumping ahead and defending bar and the department's reductions which seems to be kind of putting the cart before the horse. Like assuming what's what's next you know what I'm saying. It just seemed like a really weird like they were DEF- defending a different case. It seemed that didn't make sense. It didn't seem Coherent to me well strategically. I actually think if I was in their shoes. That might be the right thing to do because it may very well be that the foyer reductions are Defensible in other words. You know they say that career people handled that very well may be the truth. I don't know but it's hard to defend when you get into the weeds specifics. What bar did so if you read the statement? They have like one line where they say. It wasn't true we defend. You know that you know Y You know what essentially that. It wasn't true what he said about Bars roll out. But it's just a flat. Denial and that's what you say as a lawyer. I'll tell you when. Somebody's just a flat. Denial they don't get into the weeds in kind of explain. Why something's wrong this that that they can mean that there's just you know I it it. It's problematic when you get into the weeds. And that's what I think the issue here you know if if I was cross examining Attorney General Bar. I think five minutes you know. Be Very hard for him to explain. Why he you know selectively quoted from the document and so on. Yeah yeah and he had a hard time explaining that to Congress as well So we'll see how we'll see how that rolls out but It just for like a little bit of illegal breakdown here. We're this is a foia lawsuit. Were in the district court. What are the next steps? I assume the Department of Justice will appeal Walton's ruling and then do we go through the dance where we go to the appeals court and then possible hearing and bank and then Skoda's is that is that the progression that we're probably looking at. It's possible but I think it's it's also I think it's more likely I think it's also possible and out without knowing the details of their reactions because I can't no one none of us publicly so I think it's likely that they're just gonNA. I think it's likely that they're just going to hand over the documents And and if if what they said is true. I mean after all this public statement in which they said they. Career staff handled this without any real importer direct involvement from bar. If that's true which it better be true because down in a public statement now after being called up by the judge you know. Doj say fine. Take a look at it and you know I. If what they're saying is true then that will put an end to all right. The judge will look at it. He'll compare the redaction baby. I mean I'm sure he'll have some changes you'll say you know there's certain forces them. He disagrees with. But then that's it you know then the public will see whatever the judge comes up with an we'll be done with it. That would be in my view. The savvy way of handling this is long as you're up. What you're saying is on the up and up now if they are trying to redact something that they shouldn't be that they really don't want the public to find out about well then they are going to have to try to appeal this fight it and that could be a long process and it may not work well for them. It will draw more attention to this so you know I think the judges you know the judge's comments are you know are within the realm of things that a judge can do. Which is you know. He's he's taking a close look at it. I could see the DC circuit potentially although it is skewed with more with democratically appointed nominees. It's certainly possible that they could take a different view on this. So you know it's possible could work for the G. O. J. But I think the the the more prudent approach with potentially just beata and this to To the judge and let him take a look at it. Yeah sure then like you said if everything's on the up and up and if it's not I would be. I would assume that then their number one priority is to delay this past November which could easily be done through. A series of appeals correct. I think that's exactly right but I want to caution our listeners not to feel like just because the DOJ appeals. This means that they're reductions. Aren't on the up and up. I don't think that that would necessarily be correlation that you could just assume I think that's right. It could be that they are. They WanNa Vindicate Bars Reputation or they they wanNA show judges that you can't just push them around But I have to say if this was not politically charged I think they would do. And they're really on the UP. They would do what I suggest it. 'cause it's just a simple thing to do don't forget the Justice Department typically is looking past the current case. And they're thinking about the future they're going to be half cases in front of Judge Walton for years to come so you want to show him. I think demonstrate the end that the Justice Grubman is acting with credibility. Yeah I don't know. Sometimes I question that they're actually of caring about what happens in the future but I don't Wanna I don't WanNa put any undue opinions on On what may or may not be real so anyway. Thank you so much for answering those questions for us. We'll keep looking for this This ruling and and and how the DOJ react to it I really appreciate your input. "From Sloan Russell and also Leonard Grossman you a ray of truthful light. Oh thank you Fyi capital punishment can be used for federal and military crimes like treason not just state crimes. Also as a gruesome side note. The government hasn't been executing people for federal crimes. But bar is bringing it back So Sh- she wanted us to know that capital capital punishment is illegal Penalty under the United States federal government criminal justice system. It can actually be imposed for treason. Hope it sunny and San Diego. You are amazing. It actually just stopped raining. So this is what is now used to drive a little bit thank you. Yes thank you from Gerald and also Mattie. It's awesome to hear civil disagreement about primary picks. The three Mexico's not trumpism. It's the only news I can listen to without feeling existential dread it's all the Burrito talk While it's true most Bernie's base won't vote for Biden for president than the other way around not most of but more of it's disingenuous to say Bernie. Voters won't vote blue in down ballot races or would stay home. If Biden gets the nomination without pulling to back that claim up sanders strongest demographics. Eighteen to forty people of Color and college educated. Were a major driver of the blue wave in two thousand eighteen. According to Pew Each Group Voting Blue. By thirty plus point margins with higher than average turnout and electing many moderate Democrats. Thank you preemptively from me for the next eight months of panic work. I do have a polling that does show percentages of which of the candidates would vote for another candidate. Yang was the number one candidate whose whose supporters would not vote for anyone else. Yeah that actually checks out with the Yanks. Reporters have seen on twitter too which is interesting because like a lot of celebrities kind of endorse him too and it seems like these are celebrities that just shit on politics constantly and are not in the space where they're willing to do the VO poonam. Is there like a hash? Because there's like the Bernier Best Hashtag Zari Yang Hashtag gang or gang gang But they were very about like those are the folks who would never fucking vote him all. Vote for anyone else interesting and again. That was only a couple of people that I saw and I totally. Yes I know that a lot of young supporters are proudly voting blue. Yeah but I did get that from an actual poll. I don't know I didn't look at the breakdown of the poll. How many people etc etc didn't test validity But It was a poll that I saw from Aaron Ross Science reporter with Oregon Public Broadcasting High all of msw in the daily beans. I can't say how much your news and commentary keeps me Sane. Everything is well reported and fair. Your election coverage has been a breath of fresh air in last Monday's edition. A few of you were asking why people shouldn't purchaser where medical masks as a precaution. I mean if it works for health officials shouldn't be safe. The thing is there's currently a global shortage of medical masks and people who are sick or caring for sick really need them and since most people don't know how to properly wear a mask anyway they're pretty useless for the general public like you said and wash your hands. Nice seriously I love the podcast. Glad you're taking time out of politics to cover an incredibly important story. One journalist to another reporting helps me sift through the mess and focus on my job writing about science and Corona virus. Hey Cools and the Nice Nice. Thank you public radio. Nice from cow. I know I love them from Alex. Shaffer your honestly keeping me in probably several hundred thousand others from having a stroke the world is you. Give us light to remind us that other people are in the darkness to and we're not alone your comment on voter turnout youth. Voter turnout wasn't wrong per se but nuanced the thirteen percent number on Tuesday for eighteen to twenty nine year olds. Wasn't there turn out. But it was the percentage turnout that was eighteen to twenty nine around. Nineteen percent of the electorate is eighteen to twenty nine so the percent of that turn out shouldn't be that high anyway. It's still low but the participation rate is around sixty eight percent and to know actual turnout. I would need the number of voters which we didn't know yet to conclude youngsters more energized. Like we wanted. But it's better than it sounds. Okay all right. Cool thank you. Yeah from Taylor Beauvois. Your legal reporting is topnotch. I'm always super impressed. And happy to learn. Every time legal news drops Amanda mentioned having climate anxiety and then went on to talk about. Dot Com click contact select corrections and build us a compliment sandwich. We'll get right eventually. We do have a lot of news to get to. So let's get to it with just the facts all right so we got some big news. In the Buzzfeed Foia case seeking the underlying Muller investigation evidence this week as the judge. Reggie Walton questioned the credibility of Bill Bar and the Department of Justice. After their spin on the molar findings in that. Four page memo. He released last April. The judge then ordered the Department of Justice to hand over the entire unredacted. Mola report to the court so he could review it and camera which means in his private office. We have with a camera really interesting then in Latin for under the roof. I think the camera we have a lot more. On the details of this case and the path forward in the interview later with Renato Mariotti Walton gave the Department of Justice until March thirtieth to hand over the unredacted Muller report. That's the day before the Supreme Court is set to hear the Deutsche Bank in many cases and the day before bill bar is set to testify to the House Judiciary Committee provided. He's still the attorney. General please note. We have no inside sources just public reporting to speculate bill. Barham might leave his job. It's not it's just what I think and from politico Us prosecutors from the Muller team. Say They have a mystery witness? Who will directly implicate? Putin's shift promotion. Who was the head of Concord Management and ran the Internet research and it will implicate him in schemes to carry out election interference overseas. The trial is set to begin in DC next month and the witnesses The this witness is prepared to testify in the case that Muller brought against Thirteen Russians and concord management none of the charged individuals or known to have been arrested or face charges but the entity concord management actually hired American lawyers to fight the case in in what we all considered to be like trial. Yeah a trolling of the American courts. Because we know from previous reporting. They did that to get their hands on muller documents which they later falsified released saying they hacked. The Mueller probe until this reporting evidence was expected to be comprised of emails budgets. Pretty Dry Shit record records detailing the effort called Project Lakhta so the prosecution's announcement that they have a live witness prepared to detail. Face to face dealings with Gordon came as a surprise. So you remember that spy that was deep in the Kremlin and we tried to pull him out and he resisted. He said No. I'm going to stay Then eventually came back to the United States. I have beans on it being him. because one of the lawyers dropped some hints in the February twenty. First hearing for this case the Concord Management Case I they're having the witness testified under a pseudonym and as we know Bob Woodward wrote in the book fear that six human sources Backed up the CIS assessment that the Russian sought to undermine Clinton in two thousand sixteen that Kremlin source is one of those six sources his name. We now know to be leg smullen cough so my beans are on Oleg. We may never know who the mystery witnesses. But that's who I think it is interesting. I have a quick question if you're representing an entity that's international and they're not physically showing up speaking for themselves but you're getting paid for money that's overseas. Is there any sort of like or do you think there's any sort of extra you have to go through to sorta register yourself as a representative for an overseas company Most like most court cases. I assume that you have to present yourself as the defense team right. Judge has to approve it in case it's probably that that sort of encapsulates That sort of process lysol within the courts. And you remember these guys you did reporting on this Jordan their their filings in court were like ridiculous they quoted tweety bird tunes or whatever and they dropped the F bomb in it. A couple of the and the judge was like. This isn't helping you but it was all supposed to just be this show trial anyway in here. All of a sudden Muller's teams like we got a witness And I just imagine concord management's like the. Yeah so that'll be funny. I think personally. We'll be back with more news including what Chris Steele is saying about the Miller report another judge requesting more Russian memo's ended update about that point. Five Percent Commission two hundred and eighty million dollars from the sell off of Rosneft. That's been missing. We have some updates on that so stay with us. Hey everybody it's ag in this episode of more she wrote is brought to you by neum. I used to think getting in shape being.

The new gaming trend - Twitch slumber parties

"And young people millennials are making money online from children unboxing toys to make what make up instructions to offerings were from and I can get into here but some of the highest paid online performers are on a platform called twitch if you don't know which which is which is an online site that allows users to watch war broadcast live streaming or pre recorded video of broadcasters video games or game play actually in the Ascot David you got a sack yeah play it so have you ever do you game at all do you play video games no not really I the only games I play I'll play like Matt inner some sports games and then just play as the Seahawks and then I turn up all of the sliders basically down so that I am the best team of all time and it's our lives out my fantasies but that's basically it right well then you're not a candidate for this have you heard of twists yeah definitely okay and have you ever watched anything onto it no no not that I can think of that what really interests me on there yeah and in me either I I'm still a little bit perplexed at the idea that that it is a massively popular so I mean this is millions and millions of people tune in to watch other people play video games but apparently that's not all there watching so twitch brought in some some of the highest paid online performers on a plane our our gamers so it is so mostly what happens is there are there are but few gamers a guy named injured would be it would be example of one they they all show they live cast them playing a game they tend to do a lot of you know smack talk they tend to do a lot of commentary and people get on a by the hundreds of thousands to watch these folks play and consequently because they have so many people watching them they make a tremendous a out of money some of them are making in the neighborhood of of well the rumored that ninja guy who actually moved was paid to move to a new path platform by Microsoft the rumor is that he got paid one hundred million dollars to do that which tells you a little bit of the money he was making on the twitch platform but here's the story what we learned from a great article in wired today is if you set your ambitions a bit lower there's still money to be made and this is welcome to the world you likely don't understand the long long with me twitch sleepers from the story moments before falling asleep on twitch streamer Matthew ms Keith room Renato thought about how unhappy his mom would be if he told her he made money sleeping she thinks I do nothing that real joke to his live yours wait until she finds out I literally slapped and made money he is one of the people who actually puts his own sleeping on livestream and I'm not talking about anything salacious here literally sleeping puts his sleeping on live stream and so you can make money people will pay and I am still completely I mean I guess I'd want to see the checks actually to start believing this but apparently it's true that people will log in online just to watch someone sleeping in real time over the past few weeks streamers have been training the camera on mattresses as a donor does off in the intervening hours you viewers use twitch twitch donation function to gift them small quantities of money is two dollars here five dollars there a couple of streamers referred to them as slumber parties they get paid the S. so will they will wake up sometimes in some cases and these are people not making member five thousand dollars is not a lot compared to the people making millions and millions of dollars on twitch and obviously they're in the minority but if I went to bed and then woke up five thousand dollars richer it would might be money that matter to me and sleep streams along the line of of these folks draw the you know the A. S. Amar videos or there's Japanese cuddle cafes where patrons pay hourly fees to fuel intimacy with someone they've never met twitch the twitch category we're just talking as opposed to gaming has gained huge popularity in part just because thousands of U. S. pay at any given moment just to have some form of social interaction I don't know exactly what this says about us but the lasting appeal of twitch is the interactive element I mean the the what brings fans closer together at least digitally to the objects of their fandom watching a streamer sleep inside so this started actually in an unusual way the gamers who were spending hours and hours and hours on twitch would find that they were that they would at some point like if they're waiting for something to load up or waiting for a new game to begin they would while they left the camera on those off sitting at their computers and they kept donations and then they can actually sell you can buy or you can donate for the right to wake someone up from sleep and I don't know I am this is so perplexing to me I believe that is true I mean wired is obviously a well regarded as a supremely well regarded digital age magazine but the idea that people can make so much money by sleeping or that people are so I don't know starved for interaction that watching somebody not even really interact with them literally tuning in to twitch you can find on I looked them up you can find twitch streams of people sleeping all right and they get on there and they just watch them and in one particular case one of the one of the street one of the donors to particular he's a big fan of one particular girl who likes to who goes to sleep literally just goes to sleep wakes up goes on about her day and he said that's like his favorite thing like Iggy gives him peace of mind when he is he was interviewed in this story it gives him peace of mind to watch somebody else seemingly relax and lose sort of lose their their lose their stress lose their connection with the waking world and into the sleeping world and I'm completely perplexed by I don't actually know what I mean it is so let me ask you David I mean like does this make any sense to you at all now honestly all I can think of is I don't know if you've seen the Truman show with yeah yeah yeah it makes me think of the people who were watching you know he that camera was on him when he was asleep and people just watching for all the sleep and I remember thinking as a kid like why would you be watching that and here we are in in twenty twenty and people are doing that it's very bizarre I do understand to a certain extent feeling relaxed by watching someone sleep but I can also understand that stressing me out if I can't sleep and I'm seeing someone else sleep even more

"Attorney Attorney and host of the on topic podcast. Please welcome back Renato Mariotti Renato. Welcome back molar. She wrote thank you good to be on the show how are you. We haven't spoken in. It feels like forever but I think it was not that long ago. No doubt no. I'll tell you in today's world a week or two can just I feel like an entire lifetime so I been busy practicing law and doing my own podcast. And and all sorts of other things are definitely keeping busy good and if you have the if our listeners have not listened to the topic podcasts you really should check that out. It's it's really really very informative and we really appreciate appreciate all the work that you're doing on that. So thank you for that and I wanted to have The reason I have you here today as I wanted to legal expert To Talk to us about the bombshell news. That's come out over the weekend about the removal of Lieutenant Colonel Vitamin and his brother From the National Security Council so and then of course Gordon Somboon from as ambassador of the E U I think they just dissolve that position has trump actually broken any laws here. Let's pretend he's not above the law as he actually broken any laws here. You have a great question you know it obviously stinks to high heaven. Which is why my initial the actions tweet out that this looks a lot like witness Retaliation which it is. I think you know we saw Donald Trump junior tweeted out essentially that You know I think he said something makeshift smoked out everyone. That trump needed to fire that sort of thing. So I think it's clear that the intent of this is to retaliate against people. The WHO are witnesses against trump and I also think that the another part of the intent is essentially to discourage other people coming forward in the future so is it. Does it break the law. Well let's start on the criminal side of things because that's what I think. People are really focused on. Is this sort of witness tampering. So one problem problem with any kind of bringing kind of criminal claim for for this being a good form of witness tampering is that it's not clear that an impeachment Eastman proceeding is a quote legal. You know is it a legal proceeding for purposes of any of the staff federal statute so in other words. You know with clear that a let's say a you know a court case would be a grand jury investigation would be but you know is impeachment and impeachment. In Kore- I is it A is proceeding for purposes of the statute. I don't you know that is an open question. No one knows for sure but let's just assume that it is another problem is of course all the testimony already occurred in other words the proceedings. Over whatever it is you you know the fee Peterman proceedings over. And it's clear that he's not trying to influence any future testimony in that proceeding right. So that's why. I'm sure that his advice from his lawyers was to wait until the impeachment was done to do it Because now the AL it will be one thing if in the middle of impeachment. Corey fired Someone you know you're just missed on land or or demoted Vin meant Or transfer vitamin HE KENO cheap purposely waited until after You know it was over To do that so I think the argument here you know really would be the You know that he's trying to you. Know essentially her witnesses. You know her. He's trying to discourage witnesses from coming forward. It's some future wrongdoing or some you know or or something like that but of course we don't know what that would be future proceeding would be. It's very It's very the Speculative so I don't I don't see this as something that would be a prosecutor and actually charged as a practical matter. I mean do so. I think that there might be a clever person out there. Who could try to shoehorn it into something? I guess I I. It doesn't appear like it's obviously wanted to me in another other issue. I should just mention Vin. Men didn't lose his job he's just moved to a new post within the army and Thon Linden Ambassador and they're sort of routinely team we you know they serve at the pleasure of the president and so forth so it's it's not clear It's not clear to me You know wh you know whether whether or not there's any I it doesn't seem to me I would say that there's any criminal case now on the civil side It's possible I don't see some heavy any kind of claim it's possible that Vin might claim that he was That he was to adverse action was taken against him for unemployment matter for some sort of improper reason. But you know I. I'm not one thing. I'm not an expert. In terms of armies CODA justice. Does he have a civil claim. Claimed he may but I don't think you know it's not clear what the impact would be in his career. What damages would be to him? and Asi- aside from that. I I mean whether or not this deepen technically a demotion or an adverse action. Anyway he was set to leave the NFC and six month anyway. Yeah and truth be told Generally when you're doing a civil suit for an adverse action the remedy is to get your job back and is that really attendance. Tenable situation for Vin. My I would be more like his brother. Probably has a really solid claim. You know civilly speaking thing because what his what does his brother have to do with it. and then so you're thinking son's going to sue for his million dollars back. Yeah right I I yeah I don't. I don't think that someone is that he writes that brother to it's sort of like you know the president is not firing you for. It's not like you. So you'd being in the these guys aren't you know cer- Vin men and his brother aren't whistle blowers for purposes of any statute or regulation Russian They're you know Vin Minute somebody who came forward once there was already an inquiry. His brother of course is just totally unrelated to that you know typically speaking Certainly employers can fire people for all in many in most states or any reason whatsoever. Certainly my state you know I. I can't answer. I don't know enough about the fact of the situation or all. The potential applicable laws did know for sure whether they have a civil claim But I it's there's no obvious. Obvious claim the doubter. And now what about this have been men sunland environments brother aside Lieutenant Colonel Brother Side I mean we because we know trump has a long history of firing those who oppose him going back to Comi and Jim Baker and Andy McCabe what we call it. The Komi Five Ben Tae there were a ton of people at the FBI who were investigating in trump Russia. Who got moved or put in? HR set behind a plant somewhere But now there's reporting that trump got his eyes on firing the Inspector General Enroll Atkinson. And that's I think maybe of greater concern than these sort of other removes. What do you what do you make of that? I mean the the concern. I'm concerned about all of them. Concern with the other moves. I agree with you that the the other moves are essentially him sending a message each to future people. Anybody opposes me. There's consequences right now. Here is essentially all the All the Inspector General Did was follow the law. Aw and protect the whistle blower who came forward. And you know this is. He's he's somebody who's not any sort of partisan or anything like that he wasn't you know going out of his way to her trump. He was just doing what his duty was. And essentially. What trump's thing is you if you protect whistleblower? I'm going to take get action against you and I want people in there who aren't gonNA protect whistleblowers. I mean that is in fact the message. So the Senate Certainly should have something to say about that if he ever wants to if he does that it wants to replace that position but I once again I don't I don't see a way in which doing that You know his violate the lar- statue in other words. The unstated message may be that he wants people who are loyal to him or that he wants people to Who Don't enforce the law? I that would be an abuse of power. But we've we've seen I mean I think trump could do pretty much anything and removed from office for abusing his power. So I don't Wanna I don't like to give people false hope that something's going to happen to trump affects gate. And I don't WanNa do that. Yeah what has happened before so why it would happen. But there's last year of his presidency. I'm not sure why anyone would would think that I mean it's it's it's certainly justifies a little bit of outrage and it's completely corrupt erupt and totally horrible but again if something is going to happen or not I'm with you probably not I. Fear that our only recourse here is to talk about it. Widely shine shined light on it. Vote in November. But if we get the White House and the Senate hold the House or do you think that maybe any of these laws ause could be changed to maybe strengthen them do you see that as a as something that's feasible without actually because you know sometimes laws can go overboard. I do you see that as something that could. That's that's feasible. Yeah I certainly. Certainly you could strengthen for example protections for people who are witnesses against abuses in the executive branch beat you know you could certainly enhance whistleblower protections sections you know clearly there's inadequacies to the whistle blower statute which is which Republicans Grandpa in others have exploited Donald trump junior and so forth of exploited. But but also you know there are also a new statute that there could be enacted. I mean one lawmaker. It asked my advice about a statute that would criminalize. It is seeking seeking foreign. Help In you know foreign an influence or interference election more broadly. You know it's possible. There's there's issues there's constitutional issues. Crafty hits you like that but it's possible to come up with debt you today. Could you make it more difficult to very least for for people to June. Gauging that sort of activity because it's kind of just the polar opposite of what Muller Dead When Muller refused to come out and say trump committed a crime because muller was afraid of tainting future prosecutions but here we have a president who has absolutely no fear of tainting future witnesses. That might come forward against him so where we a little too. A lot of people say Muller was a little too conservative about that but again you oh no. It's it's how loyal you are to the rule of law and what you're willing to do and not do in order to corrupt future witnesses or prosecutions. Yeah I have to say our legal system is not really set up to deal with a president coo is is essentially going to maximally do whatever possible to increase his own personal power to weaken institutions that could potentially serve as a check on him and I think the reality is the all of us now between now and November. Have to do whatever we can to organize into mobilize and get votes out. Because the legal system there's just not equipped to handle that and speaking of weakening institutions. Before I let you go I was wondering what you thought about. Bill bars new rule that any investigation by the department the Justice into a presidential or vice presidential candidate for president must submit that in writing to him and get express written consent from Bill Bar in order to go forward. Does that actually. Isn't that already a rule. Why would he need to come out and say say this? Well I don't it's it's not exactly a rural It is certainly the practice of the Justice Department. I think look as a practical matter. Any sort of investigation that would That would touch on. The candidacy of a candidate for president would go Ordinarily through the attorney the Attorney General would be aware of that that In real time they would be. You know they're certainly. They would go up the chain of command at the Justice Department. It obviously a concern because trump is shown that he is going going to do it again..

"We had our state of the Union which Nancy has renamed the State of trump's mind It was full of errors and lies for example I just learned this morning from the Philadelphia. Alfa enquirer I think local newspaper in in Pennsylvania. The girl who he had awarded a scholarship to Said you can get out of that. Crappy Government Public School Government Government School And and and I've got a full scholarship for you for one of those Nice Charter. Schools turns out. That was already going to a charter school so I guess he's just going to help her out. Just I just keep going. Keep going down that direction. So that was a big lie and using People as props that he also got it just seems so like knocking on your own institutions. 'cause I what it is government school saying saying that in a derogatory way. It's your Shit Dude it's your shit pile and that's like when bar came out and said that the Department of prisons is appalling. It's your fucking absolutely yeah is terrible. We'll fix what do you think your job is. Orange fucking by the way that tweet with his orange faces Jason Jack like yes looks like he's just been eating a giant ass. Oh my God I so many good memes going around about that. It is very amazing. Did you see weekend. Update on us. L. Now it was so good. I'm GONNA watch fire. Also what he lied. He said. During the state of the Union that America became energy independent under him under his watch that is not true. Became Energy Independent. Under Obama's watch there was just a whole ton of it was just a whole shit. Show if you want We we covered it pretty extensively. In Thursday's I think it was Thursdays daily beans after after the state of the Union which was Wednesday right. No the vote was Wednesday. Tuesday was a state of the Union. "Nine nine percent sure they will We don't get that until June or July you know and so yeah Now we're looking at You know I if it's what you say I love it especially in the summer. But we're you know we're talking now about pushing this back doc. Right into the into the depths of election season after the main candidates are chosen and And and I think that the people want the dem the dumb candidate to run on anti-corruption but also health care and everything else that this country's were about climate change Jobs Etcetera and not so much focus on on the impeachment. But I'm I'm still waiting for for a dumb candidate to come forward and say that they're going to limit the power of the presidency when they get into office and I just haven't heard that yet. Yeah that's for sure I haven't either. It's been actually a charlie savage at the New York The Times has done a really good question here. For all the candidates asking them about their views on executive power. And it's been interesting to see the respond to the non-response on responses by many. You know there's certain candidate ever responded at all so I look. I'm concerned about the kind of long-term affected the presidency from trump. But you know regarding regarding the timing of all this you know. I'm not an expert on that and frankly it was really political people who were saying we needed to get this done before election season. I mean when I talked to members of Congress they all said Oh we have to get this wrapped up. You know if we do it after. The Iowa caucuses the New Hampshire primary public. It's just going to say that we should let the voters decide kindergarten door it and and I don't know I don't know whether it's sure not but that's what they that's what they say I you know. I think that we're guard with a lot of this is going to hang over trump's head add in the Mueller stuff. which is you know I wrote a You know in bed with me. Rocca right after Surely after the Miller report saying that if trump wasn't in office he would be charged. And I really believe that you know when we wrote that letter you know if the we got others design and so forth so I am you know I'm very I feel feel very strongly about that but at the same time you know I I realized that that We have a very uphill battle to do anything To limit his power until the voter throw them out until that point. Yes you wrote another piece that you could because Pelosi says she well. There's now others saying that Pelosi does he could hold the articles indefinitely. Never give them over to the Senate you wrote a column about that when What prompted you to write that column? And what are your thoughts on an indefinite definite withholding of the articles. Yeah so I spoke to a member of Congress who said that there was a movement in the direction of holding holding them indefinitely. And just never sending it over to the Senate and That you'll Pelosi's Folks were really talking like that was very seriously consideration and I was concerned because to me the the the Republicans have kept saying all this impeachment process assist political. You're just trying to tar trump and and demean him and what what what the response was from I think from our side of the aisle was no trump is a danger and we need to remove him from office and this is a serious attempt to do that because he did something that is so wrongful that we need to act quickly. And that's that's why we're stewart going as quickly as possible and I believe that I I mean I didn't meet L.. Within a talking point that was something I think is the true and so to me Never to send these things over. Her Is really undercuts. That message and I appreciate the Senate's going to do you know this is not going to have a real the process. I don't know if it'll be any better. If we had Mitch McConnell sit there and pretend to listen to witnesses for a few days I don't really even be sent out saying. Oh Yeah we're going to hear what does is we're going to have a fair trial. Does anybody really believe that. And the problem here too is though on the on the other hand Renato Pelosi losy has said she'll send the articles over when she feels that the trial will be fair. Which means that? She's now implicitly. Giving her blessing of a trial calling get fair once she sends the articles over and when she was when she said that that's when I instantly thought she is never planning on sending these over because she can't if she does she's saying the set. The trial is fair. Now you know to be like you know we talk about how it would undercut the message. We've got to remove him. It's the process this process. We go through. It's our duty. We have to remove him if you guys don't remove him that's on you and that's why we want to send those over. We don't want to undercut that message. But you know maybe it's just getting to the point where Democrats are like look Given all the agreed crimes from the other side hi this is undercutting a message really problem these days because you know who knows what this political climate but you know I am. I am concerned about the whole fair trial aspect just like you. I don't think it happens. Even if the rules look great and they have witnesses. And everybody's happy. I don't think it's going to be an acquittal. You regardless right. They'll just ignore will ignore. They're not going to have a hundred witnesses. They'll have two or three witnesses or whatever you know Clinton trial wasn't that long. I mean I lived through that so you know they're they're gonNA they'll have a few witnesses. They'll they'll they're not it's not and it's not like the senators to spend hours poring over any documents or doing doing anything else. They'll complain that they didn't have enough time to review them or A. I'm sure there'll be some excuse offered but you know what I mean. We know what the result it's going to be so I mean the questions. Is there anybody who votes to remove trump any republican even one. I mean that that's where I'm at and I'm not sure you'll get a single voter moves trump hideout think. So you know people are saying Murkowski is bothered by something and Collins's disturbed and you know what they've been bothered inch served it for you know for a while. I don't trust I. Hey Hey pleasantly surprised me if you want want but I'm not I'm not expecting one single Republican vote If this goes to a Senate trial but we'll see you know like I said I'm concerned learned that that having said that sending the articles over is giving this is basically Pelosi saying this trial was fair which gives them another you know stronger acquittal talking point so that's why I was like I don't think girls are going to send these over at all But you know if I was McConnell I would have given her just a few witnesses or whatever and then just so. We'll take three days awful. Listen to the same people we heard in the house. Say the same thing and then you vote. I mean I. I don't know completely why he didn't just do that. Maybe the REPUB. The Democrats are pushing for more. I don't know I'm pretty sure. They want Bolton and Mulvaney and Blair and Duffy and I and and those would tank the senator case like you want folks testifying. That's not going to all right. Well we're a lot closer on this than I thought So I'm glad that we had the chance to talk and I wanted to bring you on because you know I like to get You know I love your podcast extremely intelligent thoughtful and you know I wanted to get your Differing opinion on this On on out to our listeners. Because I want Arlen. We have very again thoughtful listeners. And I wanted them to have to have another argument so they can you know make up their own minds instead of just listening enemy Amazon about what I like. I think it's great. I will just say that I think is what's this apart from trump and his supporters. I mean you know we have. We have have different views. And that's a good thing and you know I look. I got a lot of nasty grams. and he may all from the column I wrote but the point was I knew that people wouldn't necessarily I certainly want to hear what I had to say on that but it's important for us to have different views and debate them and to actually be thinking about what the right thing to do is and I. I'm proud to be an decided it's doing that. Yeah me too. I I think the only issue is You know I think it was seth Abramson wrote a giant threat about the winds and Howard winning. And how we're losing with what Pelosi's doing right now. And he sees that the only thing that could hurt the Democrats by delaying sending the articles would be if the media media made Pelosi out as a villain in all this and and I think that that might be probably what prompted some folks to come at you and be like look you know Mama Pelosi Doer. You're shit. Let's not vilify her and give. The Republicans are talking points. But I think a lot of people think there's just a lot of knee-jerk reactions out were you know it's not a vilification of Pelosi. Let's say this is I think that the here's the problem with what's happening but you know I think people just see things differently. Wow that helps me understand what's going on. Yeah and that was a thread that that got a lot of traction and so I think now everyone's just sort of getting their hackles up defending Pelosi which which for a long time I was criticizing. Her for not impeaching impeaching him for the molar stuff. I was like what are you doing and and now I see. She's got this sort of long long game planned here and I'm like all right. You know what I'm GonNa Trust what she does And see see what happens but I it would be. It doesn't behoove anyone to not talk about the intricacies and benefits and and You know negative negative aspects of a of a processor of a strategy outage. "We would hold them to account for that but you yeah. She might not send them at all. I don't know I really don't know we'll talk. I'll talk to Renato about that a little bit because I think about the question becomes. Do we have one one senate trial with all the articles or do we have to Senate trials and if you think about that for a second to Senate trials would be to acquittals for trump That is not good. No so my beans around holding his indefinitely not to mention. She said she would send at least until we get this a third article evidence for the Third Article. She said she would send the articles over what she thought. Thought the trial would be fair which means if she does send the article she's implying. The trial is fair giving trump and other talking point for acquittal. Nancy said the trial was fair. I was acquitted. I win and If we ever trial I want only one for a lot of reasons. I look how nuts trump is going with his sham Senate acquittal without without his Sham Senate acquittal. Yes he's literally imploding And this will just continue second to impeachment trials lot. Frankly there's a lot of fatigue for this uh not us not our listeners but a lot of independent voters per the rules of the Senate they'd have to they'd have to take a second trial unless a majority vote went through to change the rules or something only allowing one impeachment per president per year or something. Maybe you could get like a French card. Nine impeachments tenth wants free third third as much as McConnell is pretending he doesn't want the articles doesn't care and doesn't want to trial you know. Trump is screaming at him to get it done. He wants his acquittal. He wants McConnell to steamroll the process. Just have a trial without even waiting waiting for Nancy to appoint house managers he wants his acquittal that badly. And this is why. He and McConnell were pushing for a fast impeachment while simultaneously bitching about it being rushed Well all the Republicans including Turley that one guy testified as the scholar asked for more evidence in a slower process. Said be careful what you wish for and here we are a slower process. Nancy called their bluff. And now they're pissed near Hogan's don't want that at all and it's beautiful to me Like I said we have an opposing view opposing viewpoint later in the show. Oh from very thoughtful very expert Renato Mariotti host of the on topic. PODCAST definitely stay with us for that. Also impeachment news trump has given a promotion to top Mulvaney. Any aide who refused to cooperate with impeachment trump named Robert Blair's special representative for International Telecommunications Policy and for work on the G. Five efforts this is highly. Vampire says he's not running for Senate next year the deadline to file June. So we'll know by June other names. Being floated voted to replace him. Or a Robert. O'Brien who is now the fourth national security adviser. Why why does he need to replace him? I'm not saying that I want him to stay necessarily but it's it's like he seems like he's been such a loyal Demento uh-huh Another contender for POMPEO'S JOB is Steve. Steve Mnuchin along with Richard Grenell the ambassador to Germany though the Germans have complained leaned about. You know you can be an international businessman or you can be a White House adviser. He can't be both. Yeah well apparently you can be everything if if you subtract push up enough bootstrap them. Yeah exactly that are made in China. Yeah is it normal for people. You're talking about someone switching over from from the MINUTIAE and Treasury Secretary of State. Are those kind of lateral moves normal at all. I don't know that you would actually even have to have a confirmation at that point because he's been confirmed by the Senate might be a way around having to get the Senate to confirm a new. That's terrifying a new person. God but Mnuchin almost lost his like that. That wasn't that was a close vote so he know people don't like him he's showed. Womens under-representation in disarmament discussions should be key talking point

"Sure that more women take part in arms control talks should be a key priority for all countries. Urine. Researchers said on Thursday after publishing a report showing that female delegates are significantly underrepresented in key discussions about weapons of mass destruction in an interview with Daniel Johnson from UN news. We're not at twin director of the United Nations institute for disarmament research or you, and I are and report author Renata has been delayed. Delacour explain why this traditionally male dominated area has been slow to change. I think it is traditionally perceived as a military oriented domain, it's perceived as a highly technical domain, it's perceived as a demand that you enter for life rather than one form of diplomacy that you may gauge an across the course of your career, but it's also reflects changing notions of thority in diplomacy, and how we understand authority, and that has often been defined as a masculine form. So it's very interesting that you talk about disarmament in that way. Because there is a. Wish from the top of the UN to make sure that disarmament becomes more inclusive and does change and we get out of this deadlock that we've seen in nuclear weapons disarmament negotiations. So how might it help that? When I think there's at least three reasons why more gender diverse participation and help contribute to the reinvigoration of arms control one. I think it enlarges the aperture in widens the set of people that are interested. Key example, the women peace and security agenda is a super active agenda internationally in particularly in the UN. Do they engage in disarmament? No, why don't they engage in every other part of peace and security. Why don't they traditionally it's disarmament has not been on the WPF's agenda, although they're looking at that and increasingly becoming interested in that. And right this year exploring whether they might put it on their agenda. So I think it would widen the scope of the debate and the number of people involved in arms control, it might bring different than diverse perspectives. Questions engagement part of the more diverse forum. You have the more range of. Topics that are brought to the table, and we feel then can invite new ways of thinking and new ways of subject matter. And indeed new ways of negotiating to help advance progress in arms control, I mentioned technology earlier, but how might actually changed things more rapidly. Bring more women into the process of arms control. It's true that the whole idea of new technology innovations and their implications for international security and arms control is an emerging theme on the disarmament agenda and women younger women, perhaps are engaged in this areas and fields and therefore might enter into the arms control formed through discussions, whether on cyber security issues, whether on issues related our Fichman tolerance, whether on issues related to five G, or automation or quantum computing. It must be no should though. And this is receiving a lot of attention internationally that the participation of women in stem science, and technology, engineering and math is actually going down in the last decade rather than going up. So there we need to take action early in proactive action to make sure that women do enter. Into these newer fields, and that it doesn't reinforce the gender disbalance. That's it really. Isn't it? Education. And if we do have this digital gender divide how we going to address these very technical and specialised fields such a disarmament because they are dominated by men. Always have been always will be I don't necessarily agree with that latter. But I do think you're right that investing in education at an early age as critical how women choose the subjects. They do how they're encouraged to look at topics that are technical that are in the area of stem is going to play a critical role internships for women in arms control institutes opportunity to graduate study at school to study these areas really critical to introduce a new generation, and I would say that in arms control for reinvigoration. We have a broader need to bring in a youth participation inclusive of young women in that's fair. Maybe you could just give me a few figures from your latest report into gender diversity in disarmament tickly, the proportion of women participating in arms control in delegations and. Inferences? Well, I think what you see is the average percentage of women in arms control forms is just around thirty percent. Thirty two percent. So that's one third. We're talking more or less in the room. What's interesting is that when it gets to smaller more, restrictive forums that drops even more to around twenty percent. So then it becomes in negotiating forums and smaller forms one fifth of the participants are women. What's really striking is that we see successively more women entering into delegations, but less women at leadership of arms, control delegation. So the leaders of of a process, you're see less and less women and final question regionally speaking, how does the gender diversity manifest itself in delegations from say the African region the Asian region compared to the European and North American. Well, there are many factors that explain the participation of women in diplomacy and women in arms control diplomacy. What I would highlight is that you have relatively high performance of Latin American Caribbean. Women participation in arms control. And there is some correlation between the level of the income status of a country and participation in diplomacy by when you have this report what's going to happen next. So what we're interested is beginning, a broader discussion here in Geneva in New York and elsewhere on. How can we encourage women to participate arms control forms? What that in consists of what that might be involved and then moving forward, how can we look at the impact the so what question and what do gender perspective sprang to arms control, and how does women's participation impact? And you did speak to diplomats who are involved in these arms control discussions, which must be very illuminating. Baby. Could just give me an insight into the willingness among those diplomats to change. I think my colleague Renato would be best placed to answer that question. But what I will say that what we do see is a broader discussion of the challenges of being a woman in a diplomatic. Matic sphere the emphasis that challenges presents to family life imbalance would travel with long hours when engagement the highly technical nature of the exercise that leads lots of women to opt out not feel that they are qualified to be in the room as negotiators. But I think we're seeing only the start of a question what we were struck in our discussions was that it was something that was new for diplomats to think about to. Okay. So I'm following orders now to not Hessman della. You are the author of this report so straight into it. Then the in house discussion that you had to diplomats fascinating of the no names. But what were they saying to you? How willing whether to change it was a difficult conversation because they are not used to discussing gender attributes and how gender attributes may affect their positions. You know, there is this idea that diplomats are leaving messages. And so the gender of the messenger. It's not an important thing. But we know it's not true in personal attributes player over in diplomacy. And so this was a first time for many of them discussing this idea that they are things that are different when you are men or woman represent their country in a certain place or delivering a certain message and in arms control and desire moment. There is this idea that it's a military topic and women don't have military training. What we see is women being added as third or fourth person in the delegation. So they don't get to speak. They don't get to lead. They have fewer ten cents to influence the outcomes. So our goal now is to actually draw attention to going beyond in America presentation. We are still under-represented, but we also need to discuss why do we have forty percent of women participating in the conference on desire moment. And sometimes you attend a session, and you don't hear one single, women speaking. So these are the issues that we want to tackle. And I think that's what's important moving forward from this report.

Is the separation of church and state an impossible fiction?

"Van jealou- Kohl's more explicitly politically ambitious in the Catholic church was they want to take a more direct role in Brazilian politics. Absolutely. Evangelical have been by far more active and more proactive in seeking political influence the evangelical priests in their churches, especially those of the biggest searches in in Brazil, such as the universal church of God, the vision of cell to Hainault deals led by Juma. Do it. You must see a do also owns a very large devestation in Brazil called record TV. And he hasn't been extremely vocal. But he has given some public comments supporting Jibal so narrow the far-right candidate that ended up winning the elections now, the president of Brazil, and there are several media reports showing how even though the public indoctrination or public mention of candidates and support in the church during ceremonies themselves are quite discreet. Or sometimes completely absent on the margins of the religious ceremonies in the way that people talk and discuss with each other. They are quite suppo-. Live off. What is currently the far right movement in Brazil, the sort of tough on crime conservative in social terms. So this is a very strong movement in Brazil, and a majority of the oven Jellicoe showed support for valuable so Naro by some pulse. Seventy percent of Brazilians who identify as evangelical voted for ball Shara. What's your sense of which way round the horse in the car were there by which I mean were evangelical voting Vizcaya Bolsonaro because they think he's the guy. Always I also narrow going out of his way to convince evangelical that he's their guy. So the interesting thing is that Djabel sano is not an Jellicoe. He doesn't follow innovate Jelica religion, his Catholic. However, his wife is even Jellicoe, and he has demonstrated several policy positions and brother philosophical points that are very aligned with even Jellicoe concern. So for instance, the transfer of the Brazilian embassy from Tel Aviv to jerus-. Elim he stated publicly during the campaign than closer to the election. He showed that he wasn't sure about it. And now he continues to tiptoe on that. However, it was a point that is widely supported by even Jellico is because of their belief that the Jews should return to resume and rebuild the temple. So that the second coming of Christ would come. It's a belief that is very widespread and even Jellico community, at least in Brazil and other points such as publicly stating certainly in the past and to some extent in the present will sonata stating opposition to gay marriage to the presence of gender and sexual education in schools that even Jellicoe stink is beyond unacceptable for their ultra-orthodox views. So these points if Jellicoe symbols on auto are very well aligned there are some voices in the Jellico community that worry about the long term implications of this for the oven Jellicoe movement as a whole for its future because at the same time. That there are very comfortable alliances of positions between both scenario and the oven Jellicoe, both Renato also state some points that are quite violent and points regarding public security such as shooting to kill criminals, supporting torture of criminals, all suspected criminals, and these tend to afflict particularly the poor and particularly poor black men, which is also the constituencies the demographics that tend to be more heavily even Jellicoe. So it's not a complete harmony of thoughts. But so far the social conservatives mobile on auto and of the Jellicoe movements have become quite aligned is it a challenge for president Bolsonaro any Brazilian politician to try to manage the the expectations the hopes and the energies of of both the van calls, and the Catholic church are there points of difference between the Natale I believe that it is a challenge to acquire the politic. Support of these different communities while also attending or respecting the less conservative positions of the rest of the Brazilian population. So the reason why this balance between even Jellicoe sin Catholic hasn't been very prominent in recent years is that the Jellicoe movement has been quite divided politically. Whereas the Catholic church doesn't explicitly get involved in politics. The evangelicals have been involved, but in a very fragmented way. So they haven't really supported a single presidential candidate or a single political party. Brazil is a country with around thirty parties represented in congress, and it is very fragmented. And there are von Jellicoe, you know, in many many parties, the Workers Party that is now the main opposition the arch enemy of Bozon arrow in his right-wing movement. The work aspired self aligned itself with the evangelical during Duma Rousseff and Duma Roussev went back on some Paul. Proposals to provide sexual education gender decay shin schools because of even Jellicoe influence in true, Brazilian, political fashion. Diva Jellicoe movement has been quite versatile and adaptive in aligning itself to whoever is in power in order to increase its influence and try to block some of the moves there against its philosophy. And its main driving influences main driving voice has been against social freedom issues, abortion, gay, marriage, sexual education schools and things like that. So just as a final thought, then if as does seem to be the case Brazilian politics has become more conservative at least if we think of that phenomenon as being personified by the current president Daud extent is that being driven by religious faith. Whether it is the more, traditional Catholic, faith or the new and in a jetty evangelical faith, I think a big part of this right-wing shift of Brazil and the growing conservative. That has been demonstrated by political leaders is
