"Well, this is the same thing Trump campaign did, which goes to consciousness of guilt, right? That he knew he lost, that he commissioned, you know, obviously hid the findings that there was no fraud. But what happens when the attorney general does this and puts the import tour of the attorney general on it? Is he legally liable? Well, I mean, he should be impeached and removed, but I think that, you know, I don't think there's a crime there because essentially what he did is he just misused public resources, hid the truth and lied to the public. That's an abusive his position. You should be removed. I don't know enough about Arizona, whether that's possible. I'm guessing not. But I think this reminds me of a lot of things that happen during the Trump era where Trump would do sort of evil things, but I don't think they're necessarily criminal. Depressing. Okay. Finally, you tweeted. You tweeted the last time some states decided to separate from the union, the Civil War made clear for all time that we are indivisible. We are all in this together. Advocating for the dissolution of the United States is treasonous and un American, which is why I'm wearing my I am American T-shirt this morning. Thank you. I keep calling it this casual treason. This casual, well, it's have a Civil War. Let's succeed. Let's overturn the results of a free and fair election. I mean, it has got to stop. You're right. It is un American and it is treason. Yes, Stephanie, I got to tell you, I follow these right wingers and I'm concerned because this is a growing trend. Advocate for this is Jesse Kelly guy does it a lot. A lot of these right wingers are advocating for the dissolution of the United States. And I can't imagine anything more un American. And it really, the reason I use the word trader is I mean, the last people who tried to dissolve the union were the southerners when they wanted to uphold white supremacy in the south and that was treasonous and we dealt with that. By reconquering the south, putting an end to that for all the for all time. And I just think that neither take back on the left and progressives need to take back patriotism and the unity of the United States were all in this together. I think that's a powerful concept that we should trumpeting and we should be, you know, advocate for. We've gone way long because I waited way too long to get you. So we've got to have to next time not make it so long. Legal analyst for MSNBC and CNN Renato mariotti, it's complicated as the podcast. Please come back. Sooner rather than later.

"It's not like you have these grand jurors coming forward. So yes, Georgia law is very narrow here. That was something I'm out of Georgia I wasn't aware of, but I will say, you know, we just talked about a moment ago, Stephanie, how the law is that to black and white. And merely whether you succeed or not is not the task. And so what I think is going to happen here is a bunch of emotions are going to get filed about this. They're going to lose, but it's a distraction and time consuming and all of this that we didn't need to have. The analogy I would draw actually is those remember those texts between Lisa page and Peter Stratton. Paul sideshow had nothing to do with what Mueller was doing. It was just like a couple of FBI personnel who had an affair. But it was used as such a distraction and we had all these investigations and hearings about a bunch of total sideshow. That's what I view this. And I think as somebody who's tried a lot of criminal cases, both is the prosecutor and the defense side. I think the defense attorneys at trial would try to find ways to back door this in front of the jury. Totally improper, but I think they're going to just try to use this to cast some sort of view that things are unfair. And there's an element of truth to it with her that enough of a color or thing that makes its own comfortable that it's going to be create some problems. Yeah. Well, I had one more tweet I wanted to just get your legal take on whether this is a thing or not. They said impropriety after the grand jury convened as different than impropriety during the grand jury proceeding, there is nothing she can say that will get an indictment thrown out after the grand jury is already convened. Is that true? I think that's right. I don't think the indictments are going to get thrown out. I mean, she's not from the grand jury that's indicting and this happened afterwards. All of that is true. I think the more problematic stuff that she said are the things that made it look like she was her and the grand jury were too chummy with the prosecutors like how she's eating a popsicle. She was getting she had a ninja turtle ice cream. Sandwich or something. She was eating from the prosecutors gave her because she was at their party. Like stuff like that, it's somewhat problematic, but I don't think this is going to get thrown out, but I will just say I've gotten a lot of comments on Twitter for people like you're wrong mariotti. This is not going to succeed until therefore this is you're just you're wrong.

"Internally decapitated me. Right, yeah, just a ghost with no head. I just got a head, right? But spiritually, it's a weird thing to be spiritually headless. I would think it would be the opposite. I would think most people, you know, if you're going to be have spiritual anatomy things going on, you'd have like two heads spiritually or too hard or something. That sounds like something a spiritual person would say, but it's been like, yeah, I'm spiritually brainless. You know, I don't understand. It's like, well, you're not doing great in the Corporal realm either in terms of brine. So yeah, I don't know, it doesn't matter. I don't think it matters that much to them where it comes from. It's just once they've gotten a hold of it and whether or not they agree with it. And if they do, then they just take it and run with it and it becomes the gospel. You know what I mean? Well, we just put this latest story, just broke that Kevin McCarthy finally released the 41,000 hours of surveillance footage footage filmed during the January 6th riot at the capitol, but not publicly just exclusively to Tucker Carlson, whose producers have been combing through it. I don't understand how, I mean, I guess when you're Kevin McCarthy, you know, that level of power, I guess, anything is theoretically legal, but I don't understand how that's like an okay thing to do. I know a huge chunk of this country thinks it's very not okay that he did that, including me, but I mean, that's just like, that's pretty crazy. Yeah, and it's wrong. I don't see American people. I know that's what I'm saying. And what kind of like hatchet job or to make? This was a peaceful tourist visit, right? He already made that one documentary. I'm doing air quotes about it and made it look, you know, and that was one of the I didn't watch the whole thing. I just saw the trailer or whatever. And the trailer was one of the most worrisome, you know, chill down my spine and do some things I had seen. So I can't imagine what they're going to do with all this with all the raw footage. But yeah, that's like, are you talking about the ball tanning documentaries? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I just remembered it was crazy. You know, I mean, that's been a few months ago now since they put up so much crazy stuff comes out. You can't keep up with it. But yeah, it involved the balls stuff. I thought there was also a January 6 one or maybe they were related. I can't remember. Is your point that your balls remain on tanned or very much so, yeah. Yeah. That's disappointing. Right. I don't want to think about sunburn on my goals. Mine are like, you know, swamp dwellers. With swamps of bad choice of wires. Shadow dwellers. Okay. You know what I mean? Mike, I know people. They stay in the dark, most of the time. Like most fox viewers. Okay, so we brought that magically full circle. And that's why that was published.

Trey Crowder, the liberal redneck is here hi Trey, long time. Yeah, I'm glad to be back. I just been missing you guys. It's okay. I am busy, but you know I'll still mean I'm coming through just a holler at me. I'll be here. We don't have a jingle, but we do have this for you, just to stereotype you further. There were several, it was Marjorie Taylor Greene and Don junior told us civilians to try to shoot it down. I believe. Yeah, I don't think anybody needed to tell these people to try to shoot it down. As soon as it became a thing, I was like, well, that's going to be target practice. 'cause I'm aware that it was way too high in the sky for anybody to shoot it down, but like your average, you know, backwoods, Montana and other states is not they don't have that kind of either debt perception or math skills. "To start doing the whole show like this. Creepy music. I think Ivanka and Jared are trying to tear themselves away from Trump. You think so? Yeah. All right, let's check in with the legal. So it's tomorrow. Tomorrow. Yeah. The 11th circuit of appeals that Tuesday, deadline on it was our time. I don't know. For Trump's attorneys to respond to the DoJ call for a partial stay of the controversial opinion by judge loose cannon. Deal Jay said the government would face a rubber will harm without a partial stay. The court order hamstrings that investigation in places the FBI and the DoJ under democracy and threat of contempt. It also irreparably harms the government by enjoining critical steps of an ongoing criminal investigation needlessly compelling disclosure of highly sensitive records, including to Trump's counsel. The appeals court said, oh, noon. Noon deadline. Tomorrow for Trump to respond. The DoJ filing has been described as an unsparing rejection of canon's handling of the entire matter saying it as jeopardized national security is based on flimsy or baseless interpretations of executive privilege and could enable further obstruction of efforts to recover additionally additional missing documents Renato mariotti said it's a very quick response from the Court of Appeals is a good sign for the DoJ. Let's hope so. Because how this is not of urgent national security concern, I don't. I don't know. So this was, they asked the DoJ as the appeals court to override parts of the judge's order, appointing a special master to review documents. Is anyone else suspicious like I am? I know where everyone says this special master is agreed to by both sides and he was appointed by Reagan, but the fact that Trump's team is okay with him. Does that not make you makes me suspicious? The. He was in the involvement in the Carter page thing and I had no idea I'm like, did they get to him somehow? That was the redeem himself to them for the Carter page thing or something. I don't know. I did see some speculation over the weekend that they chose him because they think that he might be ticked off about the fisa courts lying to him. Right. About the Carter page, the best way I was saying. It was a weird choice. But again, that's all speculation. Right. Well, what does talk radio? It's three hours of mindless. Yeah, but it's their speculation. It's stupid. Yeah, in fact, if mindful speculation slips in, we apologize. Yeah, that's against FCC regulations. Yes. Rumor innuendo. Final speculation. Allegedly. Time filling. That's what we trafficking. What? We have three hours to fill. Yes, exactly. Okay, so asking the appeals court to intercede on two parts of canon's ruling one barring criminal investigators from using the C's material while the special master does his work in another allowing the special master to review the roughly hundred classified document seized as well as non classified material. The government filing asked for a stay of only the portions of the order causing the most serious and immediate harm to the government of the public, calling the scope of their request modest, but critical critically important. Anyway, they're saying it rapidly harms the government by enjoining critical stacks of an ongoing criminal investigation needlessly compelling disclosure of highly sensitive records, including to Trump's lawyers. Yeah, I don't trust a one of them. The courts injunction restricts the FBI from using the seas records and its criminal investigative tools to assess which, if any records were in fact disclosed to whom and in what circumstances, so we'll know right by noon tomorrow. What they're going to say. Yeah. That's interesting what you just said, but that's what I was thinking. Why the Carter page guy? Judge. That's the only reason that anyone can come up with. Okay. Oh, representative Cohen talking about Trump. I got fundraising letter. The Trump sent out just yesterday. And he said the attacks on me really are attack on you, friend. They want power. And it's up to us to rip that power from their hands and put it back off. I need a $1 million in the next few days, get it a 1000% impact for the next 30 minutes. I need your money. Don't get to anybody else. This is just for you. This is the biggest bunch of blarney and ripoff lies that you can imagine. Did not see Blaney coming with you. Wow. It started with B wow. Okay. So we were speculating Friday whether

"Us to check in. With our Hall of Fame baseball writer and Rockies insider Tracy Wrinkles be of inside the seams dot com Tracy Always great to have you. Thank you. Well, it's great to be here. Let's first talk about the return of Nolan Ah, Renato, regardless of how things ended. The fact of the matter is Nolan did amazing things with the Rockies. And while it's different to see him here with the Cardinals There's no denying what he accomplished in purple is there? No, I mean, here's a fan favorite. He played hard every day. He played his heart earlier I've ever seen day in and day out. A little bit different personality, But you know, all of us have a little bit different personality, right? We're not all the same, but I think he, uh, he gave Iraqis everything that could possibly give him when he was here, and he reached the point where he wanted to move on. Um, it's not the first guy on earth that did it, And so the Rockies accommodated him, and then they deal with ST Louis. Do they get everything they wanted to return? No. When a player has a no trade, cause he's going to have control. Over where he goes, and you know, I think with Gamber alone they did fairly well and they got a pretty good starting pitcher right there. But, you know, I think it's great to see the fans welcome him back.

"How many months in prison is this person. Gonna get for this crime and how much. How much resources are we gonna have to put into trying this case and so that's the sort of calculus. Justice is not a perfect thing ever in this country. That's for sure we all know that is very far from perfect but while i think appropriate thing prosecutors do as they figure out wh what's in the public interest in terms of prosecutorial resources so i just think that's part of the equation. Yes like jacob chancellor for example pretty much who. You just described what he did. His lawyers are his defense attorneys. Know that they want to. You know come to a deal. And and so they have a little bit of leverage there because they know that the doj doesn't want to clog up the the docket with those types of cases so yeah. I think i think we're looking at probably going to look at some settling for things a little bit left. But you're right. The judge has to take into account. It's gonna be interesting to see how these come down but you know renato if we see for example one of these Donohoe or figs or you know some of these proud boys the if they continue to plead not guilty refused to cooperate they go to trial. We're looking at like next year. You know it's bring a long time. Yeah i mean. I i will tell you i have. I have Cases that are scheduled for trial next year. I'm not sure if they're going to go on time. Because even though these cases overcharged late last year is just. There's so much of a delay and so much backlog right now and you know. I have cases where the judge is like. I don't even have a spot on my calendar right now..

"They are very vigorously prosecuting. Every a lot of people here are involved and as you say they are working their way up to conspiracy charges trying to flip people. You're starting to see some please. I think one thing that is a challenge in these kind of cases. Is you know some of the what. I'll call like a very straightforward. Charges are easy to prove right like okay. You entered the capital with an attempt. Disrupt government business or something okay. That's like straightforward proving. Some sort of domestic terrorism charged conspiracy. That can be more complicated improving. Somebody state of mind Complicated there can be no risks at trial. So i think they're putting that stuff together carefully on the. I'll just caution. Everybody is is anybody who's been following your podcast. Alison knows the wheels adjuster. Pretty slowly in this country and it just takes a while for best gatien's in case system to work their way through the system. So you know. I think it's gonna take a little bit of time and you know i'll tell you. Although a lot of folks were listening to spike ask they haven't been doing enough as you know. Alison a lot of the trumpsters are are angry. Too much is being done right. They're definitely feeling the force. And i think for the sake of our country. That's a positive thing that people who are attacking our capital disrupting our government's trying to overturn and change our democratic way of bit way of governance are going to hopefully have some positive future. Yeah and they're also really sad. That trump is standing up for which they should have learned in the second impeachment trial when the defense was. Hey they're on their own. They're the criminals not me. Yeah now and you know you're you're so right and another thing we have to remember. They're pushing six hundred defendants here. We are probably going to see a lot of of of plead out deals. That should probably have more jail time that they're just going because you can't do six hundred trials on the same docket and i don't think that you can farm these cases out to other courts. Yeah i think that's right. Yeah venues there in dc And these are the kinds of cases. Frankly where you know often. A moving moving with my fiance my fiance and moving in together with With her daughter so a lot of change in tumult on my side of a side of things. But it's all for the positive all good thing. Yes congratulations and thanks for making time for us today. Because i had asked you on twitter You've posted last week about sydney powell and some other attorneys. Who will get to in a second. You know that. The elite strike. Force the crack in group of folks. They have been summoned for a sanctions hearing in a michigan federal court because on thursday district. Judge linda parker or the attorneys. She ordered them flat out to appear at a hearing on july. Sixth and i wanted to ask you about this. Because i am not familiar with sanctions hearings. I haven't seen this yet so far in all the reporting i've done in the last few years. Could you talk a little bit about these sanctions. And what they might mean us. Oh the reason you haven't heard a lot about sanctions because they're very rare and judges. Generally while there are ethical standards that apply to attorneys. We've heard a lot about those over. The last year is about all these rules professional responsibility as a practical matter. They're not enforced as vigorously as you might think. And so you know. Judges will have lawyers in front of them do do questionable things and sometimes The the consequences of that is just at judge. Diminishes their their view of the attorney. Or maybe they'll call out the attorney. Say something about the attorney opinion. You know that sort of thing you know the idea being that even just having the judge who says something bad about you as punishment enough but a sanctions hearing means that the judge is concerned enough about your conduct that she or he wants is going to have a hearing to determine whether for example to impose a financial penalty For example for example. One case that i tried when i was a federal prosecutor a high profile case there was a lawyer who took photos from inside the courtroom and put them on twitter. Okay evidence and they said very bad idea when are signs everywhere. It says do not take photographs And so you know. There was a sanction searing pace of money. And he had you know. Apologize to the court and file some apology. Things like that. They're it's essentially formalized way of punishing attorney misconduct. And.

We've done a lot of fun things already this morning and calling number. You want to join us, 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. That's 855 to 1 to four CBS. But believe it or not, There's been a lot of activity going on around baseball. Over the last few days. It's like the hot stove started to pick up now that it looks like spring training is only about three weeks away, So I want to talk about the deal that everyone has been talking about, And that's the fact that Nolan Aaron Auto has left Denver. And is now going to be a Saint Louis Cardinal. So I decided I reach out to buddy, my buddy Chris Rogie, who I worked with in Chicago and then when he was in ST Louis, working Down there doing sports radio and in the afternoon drive slot, and I wanted to bring him on to talk about all of this stuff and what it means for the Cardinals. What it means for the The Rockies what it means for the NL West versus the NL Central, and he joins us now here on CBS Sports Radio. Hey, Chris. Rogie. Well, hello, warrants. Holmes. I'm so glad that you were available to talk about this. I want to know. First of all, because I felt like over the last two off seasons The Cardinals have been chasing Nolan, a Renato and my my writing That assumption? Yes, well, Okay, Well, I don't know if they've been chasing him or if everybody has just been hoping they would go get him. But the two entities have been linked at least the last couple of years, maybe three. Go back three years. Everybody's always talking about Nolan era nado. What a perfect fit. He would be. They don't have a third baseman their infield prior toe acquiring Goldschmidt. Their infield production just wasn't there, so they got to do something. This guy's a perfect fit. He doesn't want to be in Colorado anymore. Um Yeah, Why not bring him He plays good defense because they had carpenter Matt Carpenter playing third and he struggles over. I mean, he's fine at 30 is just not. He's not great, and you can tell when he Makes the throw to first like there's this ark in the throw, and sometimes it just beats the runners. Sometimes that it has trouble getting to first base. So there's always this moment where you're like, Is he gonna make this play or not? So now you got a guy who plays that position better than maybe anybody in the game with the exception of Matt Chapman. And now he's he fits perfectly into what they need. So I think the question that I've already been asked before you and I'm assuming you were gonna ask me. This is m I surprised they did it in the answer is yes, I'm I Two names have been linked. For a long time as I mentioned, but the Cardinals tend to The exception of the Goldsman acquisition. They made that happen, but they tend to fall short of it. You'll be a David price. They fell short on him, bringing him in or are you know, signing him? They fell short on bringing back Jason Heyward. They fell short on Giancarlo Stanton, even though they allegedly had a deal in place. To acquire him. He said. You know what? Miami? Um I'm not gonna let you have what you want. So I'm not gonna take that deal, so they fell short on him as well. So it just kind of felt like This Aaron auto situation was never going to materialize. So quite frankly, I'm a little surprised. They made it happen, but they did it and they should be commended for it. They should and you start looking at like O P s at their base. Over over the last decade or so. You could see why they would want an upgrade in that spot. It feels like with the Cardinals that they've been waiting a little bit for Rainmaker and Goldschmidt. I think fits that. Now, when you add the two of those guys, now that you've got your quarters together, this this Cardinals team looks really dangerous to me on a day in day out basis. Well, okay. I know the The concern is going to be and I don't think people should be worried about it. If you're a Cardinals fan, I really don't think you should worry about the ballpark factors too much. Because yes, he played in Colorado. The numbers could be inflated inflated in Colorado, but the Cardinals have had pretty good luck with guys who have played for the Rockies. And have come over to where they are and have done pretty well there to Larry Walker being one of them Matt Holliday another so there is precedent for them, acquiring players who have done well at Coors Field. Then also come to Busch Stadium, which which plays a. It's about 15th or 16th and baseball. In terms of of, you know, home runs and offense, so it doesn't play big. It doesn't play small. It's right there in the middle. Don't see any reason he can't be productive there. Maybe there's a little bit of a drop off in his production, but I still think he's going to be a pretty darn good, productive player for a while. So you've got him you got Paul Goldschmidt. Who is in his thirties, now well into his thirties and his 2019 full season first season for them was not great. At least it wasn't close to Goldschmidt standards, but it was pretty good. There was a little bit of a rebound last year. But again, that was only two months of the season. So I guess you could kind of keep an eye out for what kind of production they'll get from him. I would imagine it's still gonna be really good. It's still Paul Goldschmidt. He may not give you like a 9 50 or better O P s, but he should be productive. So you've got two guys in the middle of the order. That should drive in a ton of runs for you. If you're the Cardinals, the question is..

Georgia Gov. Sues Atlanta Over Face Masks
"Governor camp. Basically does a shore headline. is suing. The bear because she She's bringing Atlanta back to the stricter phase, the strictest phase of reopening and this is amidst rising cases. Atlanta has one third of the state's cases right now in Georgia's cases in general are going up, as are a lot of different cities and states cases right now we're not in a good place with covid and Kemp is saying that he's going to move forward with the lawsuit, saying that he will not stand down because the mayor's disastrous policies threatened the lives and livelihood of our citizens, and this is so. This is really interesting to me because you have a governor that refuses to mandate masks even though. The case are going up. He says he won't go past. Just strongly suggesting that people wear them, and then you have a mayor that is more concerned, obviously about the pulse citizens and is choosing to require this. This mask mandates are enforce it, but what is so interesting to me? Is You know this question of WHO's more, powerful, a governor or a mayor and I was looking through in doing some research before we hopped on here and it seems like the precedent exists in Kemp's favor right now in terms of him issuing an executive order, but it's GonNa be litigated litigated in court. And, the mayor is welcoming that opportunity to argue this corporate I feel like. They're gonNA have to successfully argue that the health of citizens are objectively one hundred percent more at risk with his policy verses. Hers may be for her to be able to enforce that. Directly in contradiction to Kemp's order so. That's yeah, and I think a good argument here. I'm sorry to interrupt I think a good argument. Here would be wide just why just the mayor of Atlanta? wikileaks bottoms? Why is he not? Any other mayor who's mandating masks in rolling back the reopening of the states of the of their of their cities. It's just her and I think he might have a hard time. Proving why it's just her. And not. Any of the other mayors that that are that are doing this. Yeah Yeah, that's I I wasn't aware that other mayors and other cities. We're doing the same. As as she was, if that's the case then. Well I guess if he's just. Suing her directly. She doesn't get to increase her bench of. Defendants. But. Or, can't she? Could she get other mayors to sign onto the lawsuit? Can you do that? She's the defendant right right he's. Yes, so I mean she can bring any witnesses that she wants. But I just find it remarkable that that the only black woman mayor is the one that's being sued so right point being if other mayors are doing the exact same thing then maybe. If the you know outside of them, just coming as witnesses, they wanted to actually litigated that in in maybe a separate. Case or court or something with all of them together. I don't know because it seems like this has the. To set some serious precedent moving forward. pan-demic precedent it's public health precedent basically, so it's. It's really interesting to me.

S. Amar videos or there's Japanese cuddle cafes where patrons pay hourly fees to fuel intimacy with someone they've never met twitch the twitch category we're just talking as opposed to gaming has gained huge popularity in part just because thousands of U. S. pay at any given moment just to have some form of social interaction I don't know exactly what this says about us but the lasting appeal of twitch is the interactive element I mean the the what brings fans closer together at least digitally to the objects of their fandom watching a streamer sleep inside so this started actually in an unusual way the gamers who were spending hours and hours and hours on twitch would find that they were that they would at some point like if they're waiting for something to load up or waiting for a new game to begin they would while they left the camera on those off sitting at their computers and they kept donations and then they can actually sell you can buy or you can donate for the right to wake someone up from sleep and I don't know I am this is so perplexing to me I believe that is true I mean wired is obviously a well regarded as a supremely well regarded digital age magazine but the idea that people can make so much money by sleeping or that people are so I don't know starved for interaction that watching somebody not even really interact with them literally tuning in to twitch you can find on I looked them up you can find twitch streams of people sleeping all right and they get on there and they just watch them and in one particular case one of the one of the street one of the donors to particular he's a big fan of one particular girl who likes to who goes to sleep literally just goes to sleep wakes up goes on about her day and he said that's like his favorite thing like Iggy gives him peace of mind when he is he was interviewed in this story it gives him peace of mind to watch somebody else seemingly relax and lose sort of lose their their lose their stress lose their connection with the waking world and into the sleeping world and I'm completely perplexed by I don't actually know what I mean it is so let me ask you David I mean like does this make any sense to you at all now honestly all I can think of is I don't know if you've seen the Truman show with yeah yeah yeah it makes me think of the people who were watching you know he that camera was on him when he was asleep and people just watching for all the sleep and I remember thinking as a kid like why would you be watching that and here we are in in twenty twenty and people are doing that it's very bizarre I do understand to a certain extent feeling relaxed by watching someone sleep but I can also understand that stressing me out if I can't sleep and I'm seeing someone else sleep even more

I think it is traditionally perceived as a military oriented domain, it's perceived as a highly technical domain, it's perceived as a demand that you enter for life rather than one form of diplomacy that you may gauge an across the course of your career, but it's also reflects changing notions of thority in diplomacy, and how we understand authority, and that has often been defined as a masculine form. So it's very interesting that you talk about disarmament in that way. Because there is a. Wish from the top of the UN to make sure that disarmament becomes more inclusive and does change and we get out of this deadlock that we've seen in nuclear weapons disarmament negotiations. So how might it help that? When I think there's at least three reasons why more gender diverse participation and help contribute to the reinvigoration of arms control one. I think it enlarges the aperture in widens the set of people that are interested. Key example, the women peace and security agenda is a super active agenda internationally in particularly in the UN. Do they engage in disarmament? No, why don't they engage in every other part of peace and security. Why don't they traditionally it's disarmament has not been on the WPF's agenda, although they're looking at that and increasingly becoming interested in that. And right this year exploring whether they might put it on their agenda. So I think it would widen the scope of the debate and the number of people involved in arms control, it might bring different than diverse perspectives. Questions engagement part of the more diverse forum. You have the more range of. Topics that are brought to the table, and we feel then can invite new ways of thinking and new ways of subject matter. And indeed new ways of negotiating to help advance progress in arms control, I mentioned technology earlier, but how might actually changed things more rapidly. Bring more women into the process of arms control. It's true that the whole idea of new technology innovations and their implications for international security and arms control is an emerging theme on the disarmament agenda and women younger women, perhaps are engaged in this areas and fields and therefore might enter into the arms control formed through discussions, whether on cyber security issues, whether on issues related our Fichman tolerance, whether on issues related to five G, or automation or quantum computing. It must be no should though. And this is receiving a lot of attention internationally that the participation of women in stem science, and technology, engineering and math is actually going down in the last decade rather than going up. So there we need to take action early in proactive action to make sure that women do enter. Into these newer fields, and that it doesn't reinforce the gender disbalance. That's it really. Isn't it? Education. And if we do have this digital gender divide how we going to address these very technical and specialised fields such a disarmament because they are dominated by men. Always have been always will be I don't necessarily agree with that latter. But I do think you're right that investing in education at an early age as critical how women choose the subjects. They do how they're encouraged to look at topics that are technical that are in the area of stem is going to play a critical role internships for women in arms control institutes opportunity to graduate study at school to study these areas really critical to introduce a new generation, and I would say that in arms control for reinvigoration. We have a broader need to bring in a youth participation inclusive of young women in that's fair. Maybe you could just give me a few figures from your latest report into gender diversity in disarmament tickly, the proportion of women participating in arms control in delegations and. Inferences? Well, I think what you see is the average percentage of women in arms control forms is just around thirty percent. Thirty two percent. So that's one third. We're talking more or less in the room. What's interesting is that when it gets to smaller more, restrictive forums that drops even more to around twenty percent. So then it becomes in negotiating forums and smaller forms one fifth of the participants are women. What's really striking is that we see successively more women entering into delegations, but less women at leadership of arms, control delegation. So the leaders of of a process, you're see less and less women and final question regionally speaking, how does the gender diversity manifest itself in delegations from say the African region the Asian region compared to the European and North American. Well, there are many factors that explain the participation of women in diplomacy and women in arms control diplomacy. What I would highlight is that you have relatively high performance of Latin American Caribbean. Women participation in arms control. And there is some correlation between the level of the income status of a country and participation in diplomacy by when you have this report what's going to happen next. So what we're interested is beginning, a broader discussion here in Geneva in New York and elsewhere on. How can we encourage women to participate arms control forms? What that in consists of what that might be involved and then moving forward, how can we look at the impact the so what question and what do gender perspective sprang to arms control, and how does women's participation impact? And you did speak to diplomats who are involved in these arms control discussions, which must be very illuminating. Baby. Could just give me an insight into the willingness among those diplomats to change. I think my colleague Renato would be best placed to answer that question. But what I will say that what we do see is a broader discussion of the challenges of being a woman in a diplomatic. Matic sphere the emphasis that challenges presents to family life imbalance would travel with long hours when engagement the highly technical nature of the exercise that leads lots of women to opt out not feel that they are qualified to be in the room as negotiators. But I think we're seeing only the start of a question what we were struck in our discussions was that it was something that was new for diplomats to think about to. Okay. So I'm following orders now to not Hessman della. You are the author of this report so straight into it. Then the in house discussion that you had to diplomats fascinating of the no names. But what were they saying to you? How willing whether to change it was a difficult conversation because they are not used to discussing gender attributes and how gender attributes may affect their positions. You know, there is this idea that diplomats are leaving messages. And so the gender of the messenger. It's not an important thing. But we know it's not true in personal attributes player over in diplomacy. And so this was a first time for many of them discussing this idea that they are things that are different when you are men or woman represent their country in a certain place or delivering a certain message and in arms control and desire moment. There is this idea that it's a military topic and women don't have military training. What we see is women being added as third or fourth person in the delegation. So they don't get to speak. They don't get to lead. They have fewer ten cents to influence the outcomes. So our goal now is to actually draw attention to going beyond in America presentation. We are still under-represented, but we also need to discuss why do we have forty percent of women participating in the conference on desire moment. And sometimes you attend a session, and you don't hear one single, women speaking. So these are the issues that we want to tackle. And I think that's what's important moving forward from this report.

Is the separation of church and state an impossible fiction?
"Van jealou- Kohl's more explicitly politically ambitious in the Catholic church was they want to take a more direct role in Brazilian politics. Absolutely. Evangelical have been by far more active and more proactive in seeking political influence the evangelical priests in their churches, especially those of the biggest searches in in Brazil, such as the universal church of God, the vision of cell to Hainault deals led by Juma. Do it. You must see a do also owns a very large devestation in Brazil called record TV. And he hasn't been extremely vocal. But he has given some public comments supporting Jibal so narrow the far-right candidate that ended up winning the elections now, the president of Brazil, and there are several media reports showing how even though the public indoctrination or public mention of candidates and support in the church during ceremonies themselves are quite discreet. Or sometimes completely absent on the margins of the religious ceremonies in the way that people talk and discuss with each other. They are quite suppo-. Live off. What is currently the far right movement in Brazil, the sort of tough on crime conservative in social terms. So this is a very strong movement in Brazil, and a majority of the oven Jellicoe showed support for valuable so Naro by some pulse. Seventy percent of Brazilians who identify as evangelical voted for ball Shara. What's your sense of which way round the horse in the car were there by which I mean were evangelical voting Vizcaya Bolsonaro because they think he's the guy. Always I also narrow going out of his way to convince evangelical that he's their guy. So the interesting thing is that Djabel sano is not an Jellicoe. He doesn't follow innovate Jelica religion, his Catholic. However, his wife is even Jellicoe, and he has demonstrated several policy positions and brother philosophical points that are very aligned with even Jellicoe concern. So for instance, the transfer of the Brazilian embassy from Tel Aviv to jerus-. Elim he stated publicly during the campaign than closer to the election. He showed that he wasn't sure about it. And now he continues to tiptoe on that. However, it was a point that is widely supported by even Jellico is because of their belief that the Jews should return to resume and rebuild the temple. So that the second coming of Christ would come. It's a belief that is very widespread and even Jellico community, at least in Brazil and other points such as publicly stating certainly in the past and to some extent in the present will sonata stating opposition to gay marriage to the presence of gender and sexual education in schools that even Jellicoe stink is beyond unacceptable for their ultra-orthodox views. So these points if Jellicoe symbols on auto are very well aligned there are some voices in the Jellico community that worry about the long term implications of this for the oven Jellicoe movement as a whole for its future because at the same time. That there are very comfortable alliances of positions between both scenario and the oven Jellicoe, both Renato also state some points that are quite violent and points regarding public security such as shooting to kill criminals, supporting torture of criminals, all suspected criminals, and these tend to afflict particularly the poor and particularly poor black men, which is also the constituencies the demographics that tend to be more heavily even Jellicoe. So it's not a complete harmony of thoughts. But so far the social conservatives mobile on auto and of the Jellicoe movements have become quite aligned is it a challenge for president Bolsonaro any Brazilian politician to try to manage the the expectations the hopes and the energies of of both the van calls, and the Catholic church are there points of difference between the Natale I believe that it is a challenge to acquire the politic. Support of these different communities while also attending or respecting the less conservative positions of the rest of the Brazilian population. So the reason why this balance between even Jellicoe sin Catholic hasn't been very prominent in recent years is that the Jellicoe movement has been quite divided politically. Whereas the Catholic church doesn't explicitly get involved in politics. The evangelicals have been involved, but in a very fragmented way. So they haven't really supported a single presidential candidate or a single political party. Brazil is a country with around thirty parties represented in congress, and it is very fragmented. And there are von Jellicoe, you know, in many many parties, the Workers Party that is now the main opposition the arch enemy of Bozon arrow in his right-wing movement. The work aspired self aligned itself with the evangelical during Duma Rousseff and Duma Roussev went back on some Paul. Proposals to provide sexual education gender decay shin schools because of even Jellicoe influence in true, Brazilian, political fashion. Diva Jellicoe movement has been quite versatile and adaptive in aligning itself to whoever is in power in order to increase its influence and try to block some of the moves there against its philosophy. And its main driving influences main driving voice has been against social freedom issues, abortion, gay, marriage, sexual education schools and things like that. So just as a final thought, then if as does seem to be the case Brazilian politics has become more conservative at least if we think of that phenomenon as being personified by the current president Daud extent is that being driven by religious faith. Whether it is the more, traditional Catholic, faith or the new and in a jetty evangelical faith, I think a big part of this right-wing shift of Brazil and the growing conservative. That has been demonstrated by political leaders is
