"It is the hammer and Nigel Show I am Jason Hammer Big night just out But we've got someone that smells so much better in the seat across from me, My friend Mackenzie from our news partners that wish t V eight joins us. How are you, dear? I am fantastic. I have much more hair than night, too. Well, not on your back. That's a good thing. Let's be specific. Here now. You are kind of the entertainment guru, right? You're the entertainment reporter. So here we are getting close to the end of the year. Why not? We jump in the hot tub time machine. Go back and look at the crazy here. That was 2020. From an entertainment standpoint. I think we all agree that 2020 has been A steel toed kick to the crotch. Want anything that could go wrong after the other has gone wrong this year. Do we consider the death of Kobe Bryant in entertainment story for sports, or something else? Certainly do because he said living. He was a legend, right? Hey, was just the opinion he touched so many lives. So yes, the death of Kobe Bryant was I mean, we were all just in shock. I mean, do you remember where you were When you got the news? I was at home watching television and I got a text from my buddy. Is it true about Kobe? Right? And I didn't know what he was talking about at the time. So I do what everybody else does You jump on Twitter and turn on the news. And you're thinking at first. This is a hoax because somebody does happen with those people off all the time that is still alive. John Sena and the Rock had been killed off a million times. Right? Exactly. But that was I think the first big story of 2020 when you look back at the year. What are the stories that stick out to you? Oh, my goodness. There's so many. I mean, if we keep on this train, of course, you know, that was just just a shocker. It was out of the blue was like he was sick. I mean, he's young. He's got this family. I mean, Alex Trebek of obviously that was just hard really hard to watch that happen. Not not too long ago, right? Because we all grew up with him. I think that's you did, Of course. Chadwick Boseman. That was this heart wrenching. That was huge. Another shocker to me. Kelly Preston, John Travolta's beautiful wife. That's right. I know I didn't even know she was sick. It's very interesting. You know, like we talked about Chadwick Boseman. I mean, some People choose to keep it quiet. And then when they do pass, we're all shocked. But like their family was aware of what was going on with them. Regis three, We lost Regis Philbin, and that was just I grew up with him, and I felt like he was like everybody's grandpa. There's so many big names that passed away this year, but looking at some things that were actually Fun. Who do the Tiger King would be like the highlight. It's why it's why right way. Watch the show. We don't know what it's about everything buzzing about it. And then we kind of like a train wreck. We can't start watching that. We've like who's the scarab? Iceman? Would you do a killer killer after station basket Because I'm dancing with the stars, but who knew that would be like the phenomenon of Of 2020 really write. That was like the perfect show at the perfect time Tiger came came along What? Everybody is locked down. That's when the quarantine really started. And we didn't know anything about Corona virus Back then I was scared to death. Right? So we're staying at home. We're being good little soldiers doing what we're told. So we're looking for something to watch the sports or canceled at this point. No new movies air coming out. And there's this hillbilly in Oklahoma named Joe Exotic. And just when You think you've seen everything at the bottom of the white trash barrel? Tiger King proves that if you lift up the barrel, there's another person with no limbs underneath. Yes, and I mean to see an employee literally get their arm ripped off by one of these cats and like goes back to work, like, three days later, it was like who are these people? It was almost too good s. Oh, thank more thankful for Tiger King. I personally am some college student needs to make their faces. The To toe limb ratio in Tiger case. There's got to be some sort of mathematical equation that you could do a thesis on because not everybody had two limbs. And certainly nobody had all their teeth. I'm with you on that 1 100%. This also was the year of re boots I feel and I'm going to say the top of that list. I'm not hating on this. Not mad. It's saved by the bell. I spoke to Mario Lopez about this because I was like, Yeah, they're gonna mess this up. They've done a good job. It's actually pretty funny, and I'm pretty impressed. See, Rob Kendall has watched this and he said it sucks. There's a few episodes that don't though. So I was like I was expecting. The worst of you was interesting to me is how they've aged like Elizabeth Berkley looks the same. You know, A C. Slater looks the same. Kelly Kovalski doesn't quite look the same. I still beautiful so she could still get it. Yeah. I mean, she certainly can, but it's like Mark Paul Gosar. You know Zack Morris. Not quite. The same is just interesting, right? The pressure on them when you were speaking to Mario Lopez was this a junket for the Colonel Sanders recipe for seduction film? Hey, I got actually have that coming up. Which TV on January 13th. I will be asking because he killed it. Hosting the Tyson fight. It was just like he does so many cool things. I'm like sexy Colonel Sanders. What? And then I watched it. I saw him. I'm like Got into this. So you saw the sexy Colonel Sanders moving. I was pregnant. I did not watch from start to finish. I was kind of in and out like kind of works for me, not hating on it. We're chatting with Mackenzie from Wish TV ate their entertainment reporter. Biggest entertainment stories of 2020. Now let's get back into this reboot thing because it feels like.

"I. Mean it's not that bad for me now about fifteen years ago. So we moved into an apartment house that they built right across the street. It used to be the home of all my children and then then they tore that building. Dada was just a very small short building and they built this skyscraper at I said boy this wouldn't this be nice. This is one of the luxuries of working in New York to live across the street and walk across the street to your job, and it was and I think it helped me a lot continue to the continue to do the job. It was great. So in the morning, you wake up at seven, thirty thirty, take the shower the shave you jump into your suit, make a breakfast for yourself. Look at the paper as it is delivered to your door. Then come across the street or a day twenty check whatever else is in the papers you didn't see Gilman comes in around a quarter to nine the ten tonight we go down. Getting made up at thirty seconds tonight knock on her door out she comes we walk down the hallway and we do the show. It's a simple as that I have one more clip that I wanNA play but this one showcases you which I'm sure you're happier about and no not at all. No. But it exemplifies what I think makes you such a singular TV talent I I. I put your right up there with Jack Par- like you in terms of when you are honest and unchecked, and you just do it in front of the entire audience and in this clip this is from last week you're talking to your co host Kelly. RIPA and it the subject comes up of Andy Rooney who retired from sixty minutes just recently and then died a few weeks after that. So here is how you bring it up suddenly in the midst of the audience all warm and excited about your, you know announcing your impending retirement in the celebration that's going on. Be a little bit as Andy Rooney passed away two weeks after he left after he left outrageous now first of all. Let's right. Let's talk. Good. Guy. He was going to happen to you. Say to the GAL Meka Meka who works on on morning with what's his name? Morning Jewelry. Who I think terrific. But any we've talked about that. But Anyway Meka has said she wants worked with Eddie over at CPS Eddie said when I leave my job. Desperate. But you have never said that you just leave this job. I'm going to be a movie star. That's kind of what you said did I say that yes or you said you're GonNa be in sports broadcast or something. Movie Star Movies whatever I mean. You've you've said, a lot of death has never been an option. So let's not scares me a little bit. With. Andy. Rooney. I just think that's such an honest exchange or those sorts of things that you plan at all to say beforehand or regret afterwards. No not really you know of the different any writers so neither, one of US know the other one is going to say, that's the whole point of working with me. I think I function better like that and so whatever flashes through your mind and I forget what preceded it? You're right the audience seemed to be in a good mood. But anyway Andy's passing two weeks after he he left his job after. So many years did flash through my mind just popped out I thought Kelly handled it very well. In these last few weeks when when the show has been making such a big deal about your departure d you have a lot of input into what guests are allowed on and not on and what segments or do you like to stay away from that. So that you're not culpable. No I don't have much input into it. I think there's you know I I'm kidding around with them now saying you know, Gilman is there. Is. There may be too much of farewell to Regis that people are subjected to with all this. It wasn't my idea stephen stay this long I thought I was GONNA get out of the end of my contract in August. But ABC S to I wouldn't mind spending a few more months I, I don't know. Prevalent for the last ratings month of the year perhaps regional very much they go. David. Beyond. Cooley. you're probably right at that's all a part of our businesses is fine I'll do it, and so that's what we're doing. But no I have very limited input. But I'm kind of pleased with the way it's going I. Hope you know it couldn't go much longer than. The two weeks, Iran doing it, but other than that everything's good. listen. My last question is about something else from your book you end each chapter with little morals or or fables epigrams I. Don't know. Yeah. Life's lessons they call it well, the one, the one that I want to quote end our conversation is one chapter says ends with one that says if you are grateful to someone who's brought your life, you know even a little joyfulness and if you have the chance to tell them, so do it it just takes a second and you'll never regret it. So thanks. Well. Thank you very much and I I agree with what what you just read because pertains to Bing Crosby, who never called who I was afraid to call who I didn't think it was I was important enough to call. He never did know what he meant to me as a as a little boy growing up in the Bronx and as a guy trying to break into into our business well I'm glad I got a chance on your final week on this show to say. Thank you for I. Remember when I came to New York I wrote about your program and identified it as a guilty pleasure and you complain like what is there to be guilty about and I never forgot that that was very well, you know people have said that like they're ashamed that they spend any time watching the show in the early days I used to hear that. But nevertheless, they will watching it I. was glad to hear it whether we're was guilty or Edison. Glad you will be beyond cooling. I still am listen Regis Philbin next. Thanks for being on fresh air. Thanks Buddy. Regis Philbin visiting fresh air and twenty eleven. He died last Friday of a heart attack at age eighty eight. "With the street corners of the Bronx I would recreate maybe a ball game we played a Bronx Park that afternoon and who made a mistake and who you know. It was it was always very funny and so. I I remembered that and I wished I could do that on TV instead of reading somebody's jokes which I could never do. By then I had seen Jack Parr do something that gave me the confidence that I also could do it wasn't a matter of duplicating part it was doing my version of it and I can't tell you how many times they said that to Jack Parr. Jack you were the one that that told me what to do with whatever talent if you have. To call it that that I had and he wouldn't hear it. Of course, because he he was a great fan of television and he couldn't get over the fact that or by that time I had a co host and and he couldn't get over the fact that we were working with each other, not knowing where we were going with that I twenty minutes. But. That's the way I wanted to do it because I felt that was the best way I could do it. Your hope I answered your question I don't even know. was better than. No no no. Don't like that David your fine. All right. We're up to Joey Bishop now, and this is where a lot of people I learned about you and saw you nationwide was his joey bishop's announcer sidekick right and he called you a good listener as your major talent but. The. The thing about the book that I did not know it. It's one of the most famous episodes. Of the first round of TV late night wars where you walk off. And sort of leave the show it was after Jack Parr had famously done it for a few months objecting to. On his program but this is the first time decades after it happened that I've learned that he bishop convinced you to do it as sort of a rating stunt because Johnny Carson, was coming to town. Well that's exactly what happened and and frankly this is the first time I've admitted that to anyone I didn't want WanNa Tar Joey's Damon. Anyway. He was the one that frankly made a little joke of it at the beginning and yes, he was the one who? He had watched me do an interview with Joe Pine and he was looking for. Those who know Joe Fine Yeah? No, they don't know. No one knows Joe Joe Pine anymore but he was the toughest of all the radio guys in the world and that's in the book too. But Anyway Joey that interview and I went to them and as I walked in the door. So they saw you last night you got a lot of talent. I said, wait a minute. This is the answer to my question all my life what is by talent? And so he is. So he thought for a long time and I made a long time but it was embarrassing because I had come in put him on the defensive with a question instead of questioning meet. And finally said you. You are a great look. At. I said well, you know I'll take it at the guy can get fat at least. That's that's good for what I'm going to be doing here with you. Now, we're doing the job and you know we're on ABC and ABC is in the strongest NBC in those years it was began after NBC Johnny had held a showdown for a while he had a great following. It was tough to crack the code there at eleven thirty at night. And so One day as walking up. The street they're taking our walk every afternoon Joey said you know? I have a great idea a great idea. Yeah. Involves you. I said Really Joey what what can I do? And he said, here's what we're going to to. You'RE GONNA walk off the show you're going to be angry what what's your heard in the hallway that ABC like you that you know you're not doing the job but I'm going to bring you back because I think you're doing the job in other words Joey was you know making himself a hero and also getting some attention to the show and maybe people would tune in to see what happens to this young guy who walks off the show. Well look I'm working for Joey Bishop I'm trying to do my job. He said he would bring me back and so I didn't WanNA. Do it. But I did it. And I walked off the show. and. Everyday. Joey would say I went out looking for regis today I went down to the beach I mean he would say incredible steely things you're you're very diplomatic about it but reading between the lines it really seems as though Joey bishop hung out to dry on that thing. What I, what I reread it and what I think about it he did but he did bring me back. So it's just a show business stunt to attract attention and build a rating. That's what it comes down to. And maybe he did with the way you look at it, you could read that into a chore. So let me let me play something for you and see how you reacted this. This is from One of your recent shows, Adam Sandler came on. As a guest in New York Co host Kelly ripper there and everybody wants to sort of do what midler hit with Johnny Carson, and serenade you somehow or do somebody you're up. You're absolutely right. That's what's been happening and he had a poem. Right? He had a poem. So let's hear the poem. This about four in the morning last night because I was so. I. Know this is my last time with your age on the show, but we're going to hang out in real life but here we go. How could you leave US Regis? You're quitting is simply egregious. Good. Word. We need your band with Kelly Jaz. Youtube make us laugh till we pages. You've had so many Hoes Kelly Kathy Lee. Even, Cindy Garvey sat here with you. And before them Kitty Carlisle Lillian Gish. Madame Curie to. That's Adam Sandler serenading our guest Regis Philbin with Kelly ripa standing by there are there any secrets for being a morning person and being on? How do you get so much energy in the morning well, after awhile you develop it for the morning. It's the afternoons where you feel like you're going to die. no you know that you've got to be up and.

Gifford, who hosted Live with Regis and Kathie Lee, from 1985 to 2000 was on the Today show yesterday talking about why she worked so well with Regis Philbin. He was an entertainer in his guts, and so is I. And so when we came together, although we didn't have a friendship, yet we had a mutual respect for what we had accomplished already in in our in our careers, and we had the same sense of humor. And and I wasn't afraid of him. And he sure as heck was not afraid of me, and we just took off like a rocket. Talking about her relationship with the late Regis Philbin in New York is the city slipping back into the battle days of the seventies and eighties, when crime ran rampant on the streets. "Which I mean, it was never peer reviewed. It was concocted. It's a fictitious narrative made up of whole cloth. Justice protect Andrew Cuomo reputation. Yeah, also he clings to that other report. That's very questionable. The virus came from Europe not from China really sticks that it came from Europe. One of the reasons for that is, it would change the timeline by a few weeks and make it look like so late shutting down when he actually was. But what do we do about this guy? There's nothing you can do. He's there for two and a half years. You know I mean I mark I. Think it's one of the great privileges of being in the press and one. The great privileges of being free in America which is, you can just keep saying the truth, and he just has to keep hearing it. He may not like it. He may not do anything about it. Won't. It won't bring any penalty, but. I think we, we are free in this country to say what we believe to be right and a lot of people I think share this opinion of Andrew Cuomo. You're right. There's nothing we can do about it. Short of an election and there's not one coming until twenty two. But. It doesn't mean we have to be silent. It doesn't mean that we have to go along With with him on this we can just keep telling the truth in the hopes that enough people will hear, and then he'll be forced to deal with it right now. He's not forced to deal with it. Because not enough people have the courage to say or many people don't know they don't know the facts, and so I continue as does the New York Post continue to try to get the facts out there and to reveal the facts and I would. I would commend editorial. In today's post oh. Yeah, nothing to do with it. I didn't write it, but it's a terrific editorial. Great He's also getting a little tone deaf now. Everybody all over new. York is worried about crime graffiti looting arson, right? This is what everybody's thinking about. He was particularly tone deaf on Friday just talking about some disagreement about some immigration visa with the president. Doesn't even realize that this stuff this crime this. He's going GONNA. He's going to be charged with that too by the public if he doesn't do something. You know The last time new. York had this kind of great problem that had has now overall financial crime. Everything was in the seventies, and you carry the governor step forward and help to restructure The bail out for New York, city and carry went down in history as a great governor largely because of that he did not seek credit. No one gave him a lot of credit. Credit George. Pataki certainly helped Rudy Giuliani despite their differences and combating crime in pushing tougher laws, the legislature, but Andrew Cuomo has done nothing for New York during this period, when I mean, the Wall Street Journal had a wonderful tour over the weekend about Cuomo. Shutdowns called what else cuomo crushed, and it shows that in terms of all the job losses. New York. Leads the country in in terms of the not just the number because we're bigger, but the percentages so for example and Construction New York lost sixteen point eight percent of its jobs, Massachusetts, thirteen percent, Pennsylvania, six and a half percent. ETC, so however you measure it. New, York had the most deaths lost the most jobs and I was a hero bill. Thank you I hate to say we're out of time, but if you want to read great stuff redone Michael Goodwin column from yesterday and Read That York Post..

"Look over there at that shiny object And so what he has done is is attack. The posted the attack, The Wall Street Journal over the weekend for Laming blaming the Wall Street Journal for the rise of Cova cases in Arizona and Florida I guess, but it is it is this failure to assume responsibility for his own actions, then I think is driving this I mean it. It really shows what thin skinned man he is, and call him in my Sunday as they call him in my Sunday. CALL HIM HE'S A. A Thug I mean he just attacks attacks attacks without any sense of remorse. I mean these families that are grieving the loss of their loved ones in the nursing homes. He he will not meet with them. He will not return their phone calls. He will not send them an email. There's no consolation. No, not even any sense of grieving with them. It is is oh. It didn't happen or if it did happen, it wasn't him. It was somebody else the governor of New York. who gets all of this great praise for being a leader during the Cova? Well if he was such a great leader, why did more people die in New York than any other state? More people died in new. York died in most countries. more people died in New York. than California despite California, having double the population. Florida has about one six of the deaths that New York has in Florida has more people than they are and more elderly people that New York. So no matter how you slice the, Cova you cannot say that. Andrew Cuomo did a good job. You just can't, but yet he. He is living on this as though he's the president in waiting. I think as a scandal I think it's a great scandal and I I think that the his refusal to open the books. Due to allow an independent investigation shows that he knows what were the truth would take people. He actually had a number of excuses to most brilliant one was when he said it was the staff. Our study showed it wasn't these corona virus patients in Cambridge, who was the staff and it turns out? There is some truth that because what happened. Corona virus patients go into the home. The staff waits on them and catches it and then infects everybody else. There's a half through there. What he was arguing was at the staff got sick at home, then brought it into the nursing homes. There's no evidence of that whatsoever. I agree with you. It's probably the opposite. They get sick in the nursing homes, and then take it to their own homes and infect others so that you have this. Neighborhood effect of what's going on, but he he concocted that scenario that they got sick at home and brought it into the patients. He concocted that scenario out of whole cloth. He has zero evidence of that. He corrupted the state health department to produce a report absolving him and them, and it was supported by the hospitals, and it's interesting you know. PROPUBLICA shredded the report and the hospital officials would not return Propublica call Michael Dallying that north well who has been a cuomo confident for two generations would not talk to propublica about the report that he endorsed which..

"Let's go to Walter is calling from Jersey City Walter? How you doing good mark? They mark two things one about Regis Philbin about absence ballots in nursing homes. I think a lot of people have forgotten regis. I co host Cindy Garvey. and. He brought her in from California. They took over the program from a guy by the name and Doug Johnson. He was a newsman on. Stanley Siegel remember he was the morning host IRA. Is Well. It was before Doug but read the ratings went through the roof, and so there were a number of people that came in and before and after Kathy, Lee and it was all regis he was the guy and Cindy Garvey by the way I think it was a contract dispute. She wanted as much. Money but anyway thanks for calling the Walter Yeah he the first co host with Cindy garbage. He was getting less than regis reaches had been doing this morning. Show in Los Angeles locally. It was a huge hit and then they brought them to New York, and then Cindy Garvey was the coach. She thought she got exactly. What region Scott Network didn't agree. Agree and she left that? What without me? The show is nothing Then he had memory tried out like ten fifteen different co hosts and ratings were always because it was all regis and Kathy Lee was one of the people tested, and the chemistry was great. She became the permanent host Anyway let's go to Andrew in Stanhope Andrew. How're you doing? Yeah that was a mistake by that former co host. That's like saying I. Want to Gotti Pippen saying he wants the same pay as Gordon. Was Awesome. He was class. No scandals and I wanted to say the funniest. There's a real funny clip. He has a cameo in the Adam Sandler movie. Nikki. It's a shot of his show. When like Eagle takes over the city, he goes. The guy cut me off. But I cut him off, and then I passed his brain. And the old lady goes over doesn't sound great, but the way you told it was just brilliant. Anyone that's going to be in Brooklyn Habe. Good money. I loved three just went. His wife was on. There was a very good. They were great and she listened decorator, and she used to show us pictures of her home and they used to talk so real. Shea also is very great with him. Yes, she was. "They never count them unless one in a million times. If they have to like this Carolyn Maloney race for Congress up for reelection was almost like a it was a total tie. There was no winter, so they have to count the absentee ballots. In the way they do that, is they? Take them all and they pile them up in a room and they count them this time. It's being done at Queens borough hall by Queens Democratic Politicians. That sounds like a bunch. You could trust, doesn't it? Exactly that sounds pretty. So they pick who they want their now remember in Florida in the last election same thing they take all the ballots in a room and vel count on these local Democrat. Municipal Bureaucrats don't count it for him, so what the president did. He sent in a lot of people, hundreds of people from the Justice Department hundreds observers to stand right over everybody and make sure the count was accurate. You can do that if you switch to mail in votes for everybody. The the count room doesn't even matter. The tampering takes place before they're mailed. In other words, let's say there's. All the mail and votes for a nursing home somebody will intercept them before they get the nursing home, or they'll steal them and then they'll fill them out and mail them back, or they'll mail in millions of votes for dead people for a prison. Just make up name and you know when when people say, there's no evidence of no evidence. This it the people in jail right now for this plenty of cases where this has happened I saw somebody bring that up to Stephanopoulos. He said, but there are people sitting in jail. All of America for this I can name you thousand cases where tap and and he said well, there's there's no evidence of widespread tampering well. There would be if the if they do this mail in votes if they do it. Be Very afraid you. Hopefully, it won't happen. Some people think that's why they're trying to Jack Up. The Corona virus numbers as high as they can. In order to shut down the polling places enforce mail in voting. So that's what that's all about. Hey, you remember the kid with the red hat. The teenager Nicolas Sandman Were they from Iowa place. It was a bunch of kids high school. Kids who are wearing the red Maga- hats and that old. Indian came over.
