"It's not very long, but it's this sort of my analysis. Is that and you know, listening to the post match comments of Matt Turner, particularly, who talked to about that they've been working on a lot of new things. They've been working a lot of things in training and the guys got their heads down when the things they'd been working on stopped working out and weren't working out. And Greg came out and he was like a personality. I didn't see enough personality. You know, he likes to see the personality of his place. I assume he means character or fight or that kind of like bounce back ability, these qualities. We don't know. Maybe means a western just stops on the ball and starts to pull a large string of handkerchiefs out of his mouth. Walked up to Tyler and just pulls a little bird out from behind his ear that he didn't know. Interesting sneakers, guys, more interesting sneakers. I want you in there. I want you in vintage cleats. I hate attention. When you say about that, they tried new things and these things didn't work because it was just a lot of disjointed play, a lot of rust, geo just coming back to la Torre knot, had many minutes at all in La Liga, and Japan had so much of the initiative, so many of the ideas, similar to the cohesive plague. And the U.S. absolutely. Just gave the ball away over and over and over and in the 24th minute, western rolled the ball easily midfield Japan pounced, worked the ball to daichi kamada, who was alone in ecosystem and he just ruled it home and looked on side to me with the eye it was chalked off immediately for offside. Taylor said, oh, wow, it's great that there's no fall. Fast watching this podcast rod. Oh, never. Expect the expect the intervention of art. A robot overlords just said oh, thank God there's no more. Only for farted. But kicking in. I am fine. I am everywhere. The only thing more conquered cafe than nova is surprise secret via and it was truly glorious. At rob roden tweeted, Greg got a counter by demanding a special master and it was given. By the way, huge credit to Japanese funds that I think they've worked out how to deal with that awful far moment where var has to step in at goal has been ruled off. They just kept celebrating it all the way through and I thought that is a glorious way, not just to approach football or var pooch life like that. Don't let anyone take away your joy. It was painful. Honestly, to give the goal away, the giveaway sloppy by western desk caught way, way uptown, just panic all across the back line. And it was excruciating overall, Japan just had a simple press in that game. The U.S. were utterly confused by it couldn't play through it. Nothing fallen through the middle, we didn't somehow make adjustments and we as fans just had to keep watching our team. Cough up possession over and over and over again. It was frustrating and disheartening in equal measure ESPN put up a stat, David. I need you to explain this to me. At halftime. I was utterly numb. They put up a stat at halftime where they said, and poor guy actually reached out to him to verify this. They said the U.S. has turned the ball over in their own half 50 four times. So here's the second half. How do you do that? How did you do that? That means you give it 1.4 times a minute. You are just here Japan. Here's Japan. Here are teams who make less passes and a half than that. You always have to be impressed by some people. I was always like, well, actually, when you think about it, it's kind of an amazing feat. I mean, go on. What are you thinking? I mean, look, Japan, they've played this same way ever since I've been watching them since the sort of lead up to the 2002 World Cup. So 20 plus years, they've basically played exactly the same system, roger. I think you referred to it earlier. They team all over the board. They're very great technical football. They have great speed. But I got to tell you every single play that happened in this game for Japan, every single goal that they scored every single shot they attempted. I've seen that same shot attempted that same move, that same goal scored by Japan again and again and again. The one thing that I think you have to sometimes think about when you play Japan and maybe Japan play very unlike Iran of play very unlike Wales are very unlike England, in which case, if they play nothing like any of their World Cup opponents, I don't know why we're going up against them in a World Cup warmup. But this high line increasingly Greg is committing harder and harder to this high line to this pressing system, but if you have players who turn the ball over a lot, as producer JW said to me before the game, if you are constantly in your defensive third, playing a high line is and having players who are there because they can play that high line. It's not necessarily the smartest, smartest way to approach playing this kind of a team. I just, why do we have and also with no veterans, with no veterans to adjust on the field roger? We said this for so long as the battery. This is high risk football. Coughing the baller for 54 times enough. I've channeled to go overboard. I was also incredibly grateful that you could cleanse one was still not all manager because with that kind of performance, if he'd been this close to a World Cup, we would have been losing our minds. International football and it's hard, whether it's so much more space all over the field inherently because the systems are just not as tight as it club football is all about not making unnecessary mistakes. It's about playing risk free football because the mistakes are what are punished and that is all we made in that first 45 minutes. Taylor talked about halftime about how Japan were technically a level above. Honestly, the thing that was haunting and searing for me, they physically dominated us too, that perhaps made me most depressed of all. And then we had to think what could be different in the second half because it needs, we needed adjustments. We needed to show we could recognize you her footballing IQ, what was happening and make those changes at Jake peck till, a GF OP tweeted, USA just going to come out with the same 11, but difference sneakers and Greg, he did make changes sergeant in for Ferreira being a difficult decision to make for Ferreira going forward. Reggie cannon in for das Mont Mackenzie replaced Aaron long and Jordan Morris I'll make him on for geo Rena and it did make a difference. Vines was given the sign to push forward. The insecurity field that a beamed around long for 45 minutes, which really does, it really is it sucks to play back it sucks the players in front of him back. It creates insecurity. Amongst all the players, when John Terry was really old and still playing for England, you could see him just sucking the whole team backwards with panic and the U.S. did begin to pass a more fluency more coherence Japan's threat. Step down as they run in the changes too, but they still flickered on the break and I do want to acknowledge probably the brightest, possibly the only bright spot, just a slew of fine matur saves, honestly, birkin county booth on. He delivered the man of the match performance and I am so happy for that human being is passing. Yes, still a work in progress, but Gomez pointed out on our amp on Wednesday that there's no better shot stopper in the U.S. pool Turner proved that here and then some dishonesty could have been so much worse than the two nil loss and other than him Dave. Is it true to say no one really made a claim? No one wrote.

"I just think it makes more sense to give Turner of the game, release them back to the revs. And then give horvath the start in El Salvador. So disagreement there. Okay. Back line. If I was going to say what I think happens on the back line, I think Jedi's health is really the only question mark to me. I think it'll be yedlin long walker and Robinson. And if we're talking about warm ups for different styles of play ahead of the World Cup, Grenada is not whales. I'm not going to make that comparison. I'm not trying to make that comparison, but they are not going to be expansive. And they are not going to push out the field. I wouldn't expect. So I don't think Reggie cannon is a guy that is likely to play in that scenario. Why? I don't know. I just think he's shown that he likes he had one better. I don't know. 'cause you're saying the difference in shape and the way they build out with the ball? Less that and more of that, okay, if you go back to the pulley system with the full backs, right? Left back goes right back stays right back goes left back stays. Canon hasn't gotten a chance to play that yet in this camp in the past he's been pretty good at it and I think he's just more useful against a packed in defense because he's a really good crossover of the ball. Really good crosser of the ball. Either foot and yedlin, I thought was very good getting forward against look we all know that yedlin is not the greatest crossover of the ball. So I think it just makes more sense to give canon a start in this scenario against a packed and defense. Just to see if he can knock the rust off and still do it because he hasn't been playing like that as a full back in Portugal for the past ten months. I could buy that. My logic probably goes back and tells me that you're right in the sense that Deandre stays in this hemisphere and while Reggie probably does too, but he's gone through a full European season so he could be one of those guys that you say, hey man, it's all good. Like you don't got to go to El Salvador. Take a little bit of a rest here, figure out what your future is because he's talked about it. He'd like to make a transfer still a question marks on whether that gets done. Okay, how about in the midfield? Dave, who would you go with?.

"As scramble, but has Zimmerman has been, I think, the best field player for the U.S. over the last two games. And then I think healthy sergino dest and a healthy Anthony Robinson are both locks as well. And it's weird because dust is the better player, the better overall player. But Anthony is more of a solid lock because there are so many big questions about who could be the backup left back. Whereas if gets hurt and can't go, whatever, I'm pretty confident in Reggie cannon and I'm pretty confident in Deandre yedlin, even Shaq Moore. We have to go that far down the list. But I think three of the four back line, those guys are locks, and then it's a question between Chris Richards and Aaron long for who's going to partner Zimmerman. Charlie made the suggestion. I think I agree with them. The dust is the backup left back. So, okay, let me, sorry. Because we've had this conversation a lot. One of the issues with that comment. And I understand what he means. Is the best left back on the roster that is not Anthony Robinson or Jedi, whatever you want to call him. But if your concept going into the World Cup is that death is your backup left back. Let's just word it like this. When you are rotating your team, sergino dest is still playing. So if he becomes your backup left back, I guess you're probably going to play your best team against England. So you're not rotating from game one to game two. Now you're going to game three. If death is your backup left back and he has started the first two games at right back and you're giving Anthony Robinson a break. Sergino dest is now playing 90 minutes at left back. So while I understand that concept and we've all said it and I think dust is as comfortable on the left as he is on the right. And as effective a player, fine. But he can play for Barcelona left back sometimes, then you're good enough to play for the U.S.. I mean, yes, but no, it's different, David, because when he plays left back for Barcelona, he pinches inside, he becomes a midfielder. And the U.S. doesn't really play like that. We play like that for three games at the start of berhalter's tenure. We do not play like that anymore. You can play left back at a really high level. It changes so much about the way the U.S. play and Barcelona can deal with that because they have some of the very best players in the world. We don't have that. Well, actually. Genuinely think we need a like for like replacement for Anthony Robinson. Do you think this is a 26 man versus 23 man roster conversation? Because in a 26 man roster, it's not a question..

"And you could see him become a guy that now everyone shifts from when they see in the lineup, which is unfair to a guy that you're penciling in first and you're pushing into lineup. Yedlin, Reggie cannon, who has completely fallen behind in terms of the depth chart. Now dust is out. Does he get an opportunity and give you a strong performance in one of these games? So to bring positive, there is a ton of depth and talent in the pool because window's been so condensed or qualifying. We haven't seen it all at times and there are still pieces that we're learning about and that are going to get opportunities here. I will say the positive part of me is I think this U.S. team plays better against good teams and plays better against the ball. And so when you look at two of the three matchups here, I think they actually fit for the U.S. better than what you saw against El Salvador last window and against Canada up in Canada. And even if it's not your a team or even if you have to deal with the travel and the humidity and the smog and altitude and all those things, like this U.S. Mexico game sits sets up fairly well for the U.S.. You've got a Mexican team under a ton of pressure. You've got a number of players who aren't in great form. And you've got a coaching staff that is being berated every time they come in front of the media about what are you doing? How do you believe you deserve to coach this team? Why have you not quit yet? That all adds to the pressure and the way that they have to play for a U.S. team, which as Doyle is laid out, the expectations and the necessity on this game are much less. But emotionally, but perception wise. But understandably, when you're a U.S. team walking into the azteca, things get ratcheted up and some of that perspective has a way of trickling away at times..

"Realize it was in Cincinnati and take it all back to the topic for a rough one. Did I really nice results against university of South Florida last week? I guess the bulls? Yeah, they're really turning a corner. A lot of good talent came out of South Florida, you know? You had to look back in the sands of time for that. Hey, Alan velasco FC Dallas has done. It's a record signing. Dan hunt is very excited about it. A lot of tweets from Dallas about spending that peppy cash. What do we think about this move? And what do you think of Dallas overall? When I look at their depth chart and that's the time of the year that we're in right now where you look at depth charts and you try to conjure up some sort of emotion, I get a little bit excited. Like it could be a lot of fun. They've got some really talented young players and then you add Paul areola to the mix, you're gonna see Ferrera is this as the 9 I assume? This could be fun. And now in Vasco could be a huge signing for them. Yeah, I mean, the biggest signing that FC Dallas has ever made just in terms of profile. And certainly in terms of budget as well. They teased it on Twitter. They're like, we're going to spend some of that cash. And then they really, really did. But it's kind of like the David gosse theorem. He's 19 years old. It would not shock me at all if it took him a year to get used to things in MLS. There are very young team. There are brand new head coach and that defense last year was rickety. So I'm excited to see Dallas because they have a lot of players that I like, but Dallas has a ways to go before I think we should start talking about them as a potential playoff team. They need to check some boxes early in the year before the hype train gets off the rail, so to speak. I've said this a couple times on the show. I think what Dallas is doing at the academy level is great. I think that this was a golden generation. This wasn't a consistent pipeline of players that are going to come out at the level of a pepy Brian Reynolds Reggie cannon. And so this is the other step of being a club like that is, well then sometimes you have to go sign a young player who you can then sell on. And so this is in two hands..

"Of the player can count on who won't be dangerous. So this may be a scenario to see more of death, but I don't think we'll see it at the U.S. men's national team level, said, but I really don't. I don't think Greg berhalter will say, you know what? Well, let me take out of Brendan aaronson. Let me take out a Christian political. Let me take out a geo reyna. Those players who are playing there or let me see what else somebody can even he had Shaq more who played all a 59 minutes and ten at Ethan second division. That's really what it is, isn't it hurt? That's really what it is. Because the options are right wing pulisic reign away a Conrad. Areola, aaronson, whoever else you want to throw in there, you got plenty of cover at that position. What are the options realistically at right back? Deandre yedlin, Reggie cannon Joe scally, you mentioned Shaq Moore. The question is Greg berhalter, but in this case, I'll ask you, do you trust any of those guys at right back? Because if the answer is, yes, then you can move desk. If the answer is no, you don't really have the option. I don't know what to expect like Joe scally from in the international. I hope we get to see him. I hope we get to see him because I had a glob back. He seems like a very good two way player. Reggie cannon to me seems like a dependable right back, but nothing that you would say, sir junior desk esque were at his best. He changes a game for you. Here's the thing with Virginia, at his worst, he changes a game for you. So, you know, it's one of those things where if you know that you're gonna be having the lion's share of the ball or possession Sergio death is your man. If not, and you think you may be on the back end or sorry, the front foot defending, I should say, then maybe a Regan. Maybe a Joe scally, maybe to somebody there, but as far as who your best is, I do think there is a huge, hugest gap between Sergei and the rest. Not to pat ourselves on the back too hard, but we did talk about serginio deaths as a right winger on this show 6 months ago. We just talked about it as a potential with the U.S. because at the time, you're right wings ahead of him in Barcelona. You didn't even think about it was messy Griezmann. Now, the state of things that Barcelona herk is such that they're going from messy Griezmann kind of stacked on top of each other at that position to having to call her right back up to be the right wing. That's that's a state of things that Barcelona as much as we want to sing praise for Sergei noods and he really did play well against Valencia. This is a sign of desperate times. All of course ahead of it classical on the weekend,.

"And i know we'll bring him back if we can hear very soon How about vancouver. What is the pk. Dave everybody's up in arms every superman i didn't replay this morning. I said it's all good I for minnesota united fans. It'd be mad. But i also understand why. Vr in florida. I think there's contacting the box from behind. I understand the homeless not in possession in the moment but finlay goes through his back in and makes contacts. I dunno findlay's trying to play the ball dahomey's not trying to play anything but finley. He throws himself in front of them. That's why to me. It's not see. That's i wouldn't have made the call but it's not the worst call i've ever seen outside the realm of possibility. But can i skip over this in too short. A week for vancouver. It sounds like ryan. God's gonna be presented to media as their number ten tomorrow in vancouver randgold or do we just exclusively calm scottish messy. Whatever you wanna do. I'm happy with it and it's happening in couvert. Because this was their last home game at ourself so finally they get to go home. They don't have a home game for another nineteen days but they're going to train in vancouver families they're going to get to be home and then cappellini who came off. Gold cup was suspended this weekend. So he's gonna come back into this team to homema- now has eight goals on the season. This is the best receive saito. Play all year. This is has to be the most exciting week of vancouver season and there's a ton of potential for them. If they can pick up on this if cappellini can come in do. The things brian white has done well. Plus his ability to stretch the field and finished at a high level and golf can get his feet somewhat quickly. It feels like there's a playoff run in this vancouver side to. That's what they're hoping for. How about if he'd also go to kansas city to unwind too bad doyles on vacation because paxton pommel scored in the third minute with his off foot if he has one And they rolled it out. Hey zoos gotta go. Johnny russell pulled one back his defense. Were big mad about refereeing in this game. But i'm not sure that they had a ton to be complaining about other the performance of their team but it's going to change for kansas city to they've been incredible all season long and then they're going to get alan pluto back their best player. The probably not gonna get general. Caboose you back. We're still waiting on that one. He's got a medical he's gotta handle. It seems like reggie cannon really letting them now ingenico was like no. Stop talking about that. Shot up reggie felt like if i like brothers man. That was like one of the best moments post post cup victories for like two brothers bickering And that's wonderful to see because that means a ton of chemistry there dallas the front. Four paxton has use Shown and then ricardo peppy. Is that it. That's the four. Do they have to stick with that. That's a young talented four but means higher is on the bench. Means that some of those new signings that many offseason aubrianna etc vargas not gonna be in that team. I think that was the point for dallas was to have enough depth that whoever was performing would get to play and not have people have guaranteed roster spots that. They don't have to work for so that i think is what they've been looking for. There's not a world in which pepys not the starter even if he's not scoring just because of his level of work has level of movement creating opportunities for everyone underneath them. This is the best paxton's look in what three years now..

"It's it's a tough question. I mean you look there. It's a good question rather it's a tough spot. Think for for berhalter in that. This is an he. He'll say otherwise but this is an experimental team in an experimental tournament. There's there's guys that are being shoehorned into roles that you probably don't suit them. We've seen matthew hoppy out in the wing. I think most people think he's the center forward or a more central players jesse's artists. We saw him out on the wing a little bit. He's a guy that The last number of years has been played exclusively club. International level is is kind of number nine so Know that that's part of it. But you know those are excuses and there really aren't. There are no excuses that they should be better. They have enough person you would think they will create a bit more going forward in that i mean to me. That's the big. That's the big worry If you're a us band just again outside of that martinique game which you don't really count. The defending in that match was not anything close to what you consider international standard where chances are hard to come by and the us was not not able to break down a canadian seemed. It's good but they you know they should be able to get more than one goal from their run against the team like that. Doug one of the things with this gold cup that we were kind of looking at was okay. We would like to win this tournament. Of course But more so almost it seems like it's being treated as like a glorified tryout for players who can take part and do a job for the us in world cup qualifying so with that being the case. Who is passing that test so far. Who are some of the guys that are standing out to you that you think okay we could maybe bring them to somebody's world cup qualifiers and if they have to see some time on the field it won't be much of a drop off. Who do you look at so far for that yet. A good question. I mean you gotta look at shack. more scores. The goal the other game our last game against canada. He's a guy that would not be starting in this tournament of reggie cannon was healthy but he's he's acquitted himself. Well now it right back. I mean you've got john via ad-lib cannon you've got sergey no compla- there so you know i don't. I don't know that guy that was going going to be with the full team. When rocca qualifying starts let alone starter. But he's a guy that's acquitted himself well matt turner and goal You know he he's. He's had to clean sheets the only goal against a penalty against martinique You know still some concerns about. Can he play out of the back with his feet. Which is going to be required We think full team. It's it's the way of the modern game. There's no way around it but he's done just fine Darryl decays impressed again. You know martin martinique say what you want. But he put. The ball is second goal. I thought he took really well You know showed a few a few different death touches on that one. Play and striker is a position this wide open for this team. I mean you know josh. Sergeant is the incumbent there but no competition is his great in that in any position. But at stryker particularly daryl d gets done. Nothing to suggest that he's not. He's not able to step right into a qualifier. If he's needed he brings something a little bit different. I think than any of the other strikers in the bulletin and he's a guy who's improving before our eyes so you know those are those. Are those guys that stand out. I think on an individual level. Now i agree with you. Jj i i'm looking at this as an experimental tournament. I'm more interested in which guys can help this team. violently starts. But i can tell you inside the team. That's not that's not the they wanna win this tournament winnings habits a cliche but it's true in the us with its full team won the nation's league. And i think the idea is that they the the priority here is to win this tournament and if they win the tournament walkers zimmerman Quote for the candidate game. He said something like you know we. We win this tournament. That's gonna reflect. Well on on alva individually. I think that's i think that's really what it's about if us wins this tournament. You're gonna forget. Maybe about some of these lackluster performances. That we've seen in the group stage though. Do you see many changes. I know we don't at this moment of recording. We don't know who they're going to face next sunday in the quarter-final do what kind of lineup do you expect with. With the knowledge that bear holder accrued over the three group games. What kind of changes do see him making. See making any any changes. Yeah i mean i think. Jj the team you put out against canada was as first choice. Line-up i mean we saw some guys that were there. Were clearly rested against martinique in other. There's some question marks with the injuries we'd seen again. I think canon is a really important player. He's a guy that is a first team player. He's part of that first. Twenty three maybe not as a starter But you know he's he's one of only a few guys on the squad that you can say that about and if he's healthy i think you might. You might see him on the field rusher about paula elliott night. I got injured early in the first game. I have been seen that you know. There's been a change. "To add on the topic right although then It's terrible terrible. Just everything about it is terrible. There's no good silver linings from this type of thing. The twitter twitter people are going absolutely wild with this like his name. Guilty is being used in the flexed in in various ways and means that there are so many jokes out there that if it turns out to be not true of course it's easy to just delete a tweet but imagine what that would do does rep. So i really don't have anything else to add. Just a just a wild wild updates for whatever. It's nothing that through for move onto some actual stuff so us men's national team big week relatively speaking anyway. We had two games since last night and is have chatted we had martinique who we be pants off of sixty one and then we played canada. Be canada one zero. Not much to say about the martinique game. I mean like darrell decay. Just absolutely manam little boys they in that game anything else. Stand out from that. Game quickly. shouldn't concede the goal to martinique. But that that's a good point. Kellen emmy first of all that. That penalty was so weak. But at the same time kellyn kosta has to be smarter became. Put your hands anywhere near a guy in the box like that and he just absolutely fell over else but mean as somebody who had The over three and a half in. Us to i think two and a half I was a little nervous when he gave away the penalty. But no problem seven five one at that point right was it. I think yeah owed support with a three one two if to whatever my mask bills are not talk goal. The second one was that the one that bounced around the box. Dj sorta headed towards the goal. And the guy like basically put it in the net himself. That was very where it was. It was decays gold. And they said no goal or own-goal. They awarded it to decay. Because they were like you know what we might as well give it to. I mean basically grabbed the ball. Put it that he had to be over to the decay that was questionable at best but good for him But let's move on to canada. Where the the decay love. May it may take it a little bit. The decay hype train gotten Off the tracks just a little bit so we only beat canada. One zero performance itself was was not great the first twenty to twenty five minutes Especially i twenty seconds. I should say were a very good sir. Shack moore scored. I think twenty seconds in the game which is just like earliest goal. we probably haven't scored but from there I guess you could say the first twenty to twenty five minutes. Were pretty good from there. Things went downhill badly. Like connec sixty five minutes candidate is the better team on the field End you know we were just. We're being battered around by by canada. Which is not fence. The candidate but like we're better the canada even team. That's out there right now. we should. They don't have elephants davies. They don't have jonathan david like there's no reason that we should not be doing to them what they were doing us for last sixty five minutes. What what stood out to you guys about that game whether it be from the starting eleven Technical changes in the midst in the middle of the game or know anything what stands out disorganization. It didn't look like we. That early goal. I mean slater might might have been too early right. But i don't know it. It didn't look like our back. Line was all that organized and we had a ton of trouble actually getting it up through midfield and into into the attack third We just little mistakes here and there. I don't think it's anything to worry about. But i think we need to be better against canada. Gutter is canada's definitely better than the last two games. And i think this is the first real test for this grew at the gold cup and just like the first nations league. Everyone was kinda. I don't know. I don't know hesitant about the us player. I think you come out with one zero and you learn. I think a lot of these guys learned a lot about themselves as a group. And that's what you want. I mean you said it's not the result that matters. It's the friends we made along the way exactly. That was my gunner. Second-grade was the orange slices than made a couple of friends. But no i. I i think then being tested against a i mean. Even you're saying without those two guys. It's still a decent and narrow the very solid emily. You know team so. I still think the next opponent. They play that Madore i know. I think either. Costa rica jamaica. Loser of the game tomorrow between jamaican costa rica. I think that's we play the another test to so i'm excited for that one So i think you touched on it mitch but we are midfield was overrun like for. Basically the last hour of the game That sort of bleeds into my last point which is going to be. Whose stock has risen and fallen. Or you know who who's impressed. You not impressed you just quickly on that wild. Some of the midfielders clearly did not have great games bushido a being among At the top list. Although i think he's talented shit he's going to be very player. Didn't have a great game. You actually didn't have a great game gets more me either but What stood out to me was like that. Burkhalter didn't make any changes seventy five minutes into the game when we were getting absolutely murdered in midfield for at least fifty minutes there at least forty minutes ago And he didn't make in changes. The changing made i think was in sixty i. Change made was in like the sixty. And that was reggie cannon infra shack more in the back which i mean i guess sh maybe. She's mike got tired or something. I don't know but the fact they didn't bring in Williamson or even a matthew hoppy. Cristian roldan finally came on I'd say he helped a little bit in the midfield. But like i don't know the fact that berhalter stuck with that that formation in that light of as long as he did was not good was questionable decision. I didn't like this artist. Decay top to start. I don't know what you know. Listen he sees them in practice so maybe he saw something that he thought the together. They'd be a good combination. I i wouldn't. I wouldn't have said it Going in in coming out a month definitely. Let's a good experiment that we don't need to guess The the decay in hoppy up top against martinique. I think only worked because we were playing martinique. Didn't work because it was a good tactical change it. Only it just work because we're playing martinique and trying it against canada Seemed like ill-advised ill-advised okay. Good words Yeah you know. I listen i get it. He's baltar is trying new things he's tried. I think he's used different formations in all three of the game. So far He's obviously done a lot of substituting in rotating players get it. i think that's okay I like i put out a tweet or instagram. Something about basically saying what Questioning this question right there and somebody on on instagram. saying like i'm a huge berhalter. Hater caper. Hold it off and defending him like often when people are you know instinctively just hating him because he's now molest geyer instinctively hitting him because his brother was on the essentially hiring committee or whatever. I've definitive i still think he's i think he's worth. He's deserves the job in. We'll see how he does in too early to judge him at this point but i think you can make criticisms of him invitation in the midst of what he's doing But i didn't like that. I didn't think broader had a great game..

Mnt the gold cup. We knew that this was not going to be the same roster. That went out competed oakley one that nation's league tournament gregg berhalter has been saying it for a long time. We're gonna have to separate groups. There might be a little bit of overlap and likely that overlap is gonna come from mls players because it is the summer and you've got transfer window open you've got guys going into preseason camps trying to earn their way like for instance. He said brian reynolds not here because joe's marino doesn't generally play younger players so they want brian reynolds to beat at roma from the jump with the new manager to make sure he has a chance to get into the team otherwise he's going to be working From behind a couple other names in that scenario where cameron carter vickers gotta figure his cup situation. Eric palmer brown to figure out his cup situation. And greg said admitted our centre-back cool is a little bit light. So here is the roster for those of you who haven't seen it goalkeepers matt turner the likely starter. Funny story there. We'll get to that shawn johnson. Brad gazon defenders george bellew reggie cannon shack more. That was a little bit of a surprise. Donovan pines another site. Surprise but again center back a little bit thin per berhalter miles robinson a starter says greg james sands sam vines and walker zimmerman the other presume starter at center back in the midfield coma. Kosta general kabuchiko stand up kansas city especially jet criminal. Don eric williamson. Who was my must have on this roster injection you'll end up top paul arriola gerald decay. Nicholas keeney matthew hoppy. Who's in for the first time. Jonathan lewis josse artists. Give me your initial reactions. You saw this. Twenty-three you're thinking about the summer you're thinking about the task at hand which is both to win a gold cup but also develop players to push into the first team to get to the world cup. What are you thinking right now on this thursday morning for me. I'm thinking there's not any anyone that i'm particularly surprised about. That's one too. I think this group is is has enough quality to win now if mexico brings. They're a team. That's going to be challenged in especially with mexico hungary to avenge that nation's league loss.

"And i think with them they definitely or penalties so i think he already had an idea but still like players go in different directions like you know he really had he pulled off. Hello safe and the baulky straight to alike being reggie reggie cannon and so we like. We almost didn't have time to light even like have that that you know that chill that of lake of it didn't go in. Yeah exactly we react immediately. I think the moment they hit us was like it was like the second phase so like the bulk backout they headed i think headed out again and then they must have played across and then he actually got the ball and then he laid out and that's when we all ran over more just like going crazy i mean oria you was he kind of guy that was like in the locker room just like sort of quiet after the game like. I don't actually know what you is like. As a nurse now he s very easily. I would say more quietly. Guy of very kind of more reserved super nice guy like super i mean like the highest And so like. I think that's why we read them more happy for him. Because you know him you know he doesn't want any of like the the limelight or anything like he was very even just shy like in the locker room just kind of like keep to himself though so i think that made us like one alike. Just celebrate him more. You know what. I mean it's awesome. It's awesome so then. Finally mercifully eventually whistle. The the end of the game awesome. What what did you guys do was just immediately. Everybody's just hugging and drinking champagne in the locker lab. I mean to to to get the first trophy you know in a long time for this group. I think everybody on that field. Everybody that a part every people who weren't on the feel like they knew how much it meant to this group to to you know to lift the trophy and so it was a moment of relief. You know i was. Yeah i was such a high for so many reasons So it's something. I will never ever forget man when that was so blue like it. A yeah it was. I think it was a very big moment for us soccer. I don't even think you can like oversell is just like coming on. Yeah playing you know but it but it is the biggest. The the there was so much talked about on on previous episodes just like there's so much negativity surrounding the program just felt like such a weight lifted off of my shoulders fan. Did you feel that as a player to yeah i. Yeah i definitely felt that. And and and i think another thing. That's a you know something to give people even more hope is i. Is i think like remember like how young the squad is. And i feel like we have another peer. We have two other gears. We know we can do and we plan on doing it in winning those types of games in even more convincing fashion. You know what. I mean like we are you know obviously gotta roll your sleeves up in in winning any sort of way but like we know we can. Do we know the quality that we have and hopefully we just keep showing adan but and more than anything. We walk away with the beliefs right now. We we actually believe that we can win anything. You know what i mean so and like as a fan like i sort of thought that this group had listen. We all knew that. This group has talent like brochure. Us team probably ever been now. We know you guys get great. You've got fight. You guys get hardly. You're willing to hold up. That's hard to learn. I feel like that's the stuff that's really learnable. You either got or you. Don't yeah you gotta you don't and you gotta have guys that are willing to play that role by you. Gotta you know. Every what i think when i look roster everybody has a different role and everybody it. More importantly is aware of that role. And they're willing to do it. You know so so. That's why when it goes back to like guys being called up wherever they play. Great has his mind. Like this is what this guy's your to do and he is well aware of that. And that's what's gonna get us over the line you know and so that's that's kind of how the culture that we built so you got more you got two more years. He said so. You're listening. You're talking my language here. Get me out on yeah. First step is qualified obstacle gold cup which sledged by a qualifying. The woke up is actually on the you know on the priority list and that's going to be a big one so for what what's who this is. What are you gonna play goku. Thank you've been out on every roster for greg. May i know. I'm so grateful awesome. So it's so awesome and i love it As of now. I think we're we're negotiate on how we because obviously it collides with the with that moore schedule is. It's it is definitely a topic of discussion right now. Just trying to figure it out. But but i would love to go. Yeah i absolutely love to all right. Us miserable team just heading in the right direction. L. galaxy had in the right direction. You're having right direction. Everything's going in the right direction here on the soccer right. So let's go to the rapid fire to sort of Closed this out. Random questions for you The i will miss out. I've never heard it..

"So yesterday was it's so small we did yesterday, but we're still trying to make sure that people understand that this is a constant problem that Musa. Change. Mark. tweeted, we don't feel safe and there are a number of of fans who said, what do you mean? Oh feel safe your professional soccer player for Elliot See. I would love for you to describe what you mean when you say we don't feel safe. So. First off when I say we don't feel safe I'm talking about. All of us I'm not just talking about myself just because I'm a professional athlete and maybe you know everyone knows my whereabouts at every second of the day and. I walk the street people will praise me or something like that. It's like we don't feel safe because I see myself as a as a black man. I don't see myself as a professional athlete that gets all these handouts that other people don't get. So I, say, we don't feel safe because I truly believe my people don't feel safe in this. I can't just say or act that I. I'm indifferent down because of the career I, have, and I know the fact that I get treated certain ways is because of what I do. It's not because people except me because I'm black it's a lot of it's because of all. Yeah. He plays for that club where he's a soccer player and that's why people respecting and that's not okay. People should be respecting me for who I am not because of what I do. So when I say we don't feel safe because I checked myself into that population of people who are constantly being mistreated by people who are supposed to protect us. You've got a bunch of teammates who said what you do art men in America who showed what they were about. We're going to talk to Ryan homicide here in a little bit when you look around the league and you look around and supporters and fans and everybody who loves major league soccer and supports you in that career. What would you ask people who aren't black or having experienced that? How can they be the best possible allies be part of the change? How can they be examining themselves to be a part of the fight that they need to be a part of? You know it's not going to be comfortable talking to the comfortable transition but you task the hard questions we need to have those difficult conversations you need to be open to being raw and having your mind chains and understanding that you know what? Maybe you thought way once but now you understand that that's not okay. So changes, it is a tough transition, but people need to embrace it and. I think a lot of people within the MLS who aren't black and our fans and supporters and teammates and clear all this that do a great job of supporting and I just awesome to continue to fight when I see all of the players ourselves who are in agreeing with for not playing the game. You know I go up to every one of them and I say, thank you because. They might not be experiencing what you know black people have to experience in the US or understand what it feels like to be a black person us but they understand their power and they're using 'em taking advantage of it. So I just WanNa say thank you to all those people and encourage continue to fight and add more people to The reaction to what Reggie Cannon said after that game and Dowse was excuse me I was discussing. Have you gotten any any pushback? You talked about social media I mean. I don't even deserve to be in this conversation. I'm sure it's there. People are always going to have your opinions. You know what? People are allowed to have their opinions. It's fine. You know what? I mean I attended they I know what I'm standing for and I know what I'm saying for his right and that I'm actually standing for their quality to you know what I mean. They might think I'm just fighting for only block the refining for all of us. So if they want to go against it if they wanna, see things that. Only. You know highlight their ignorance or their inability to see real james and that's okay. Ended just highlights up there's still a real problem with in this country. So it's part of it. There's always going to be backlash in not focus on that only the positive impact you have and what happens now one of the conversations like with your team today what have you talked to people about what are you looking forward to? Yes. So obviously, we're in today we'll see what the Bible is like. Obviously it's been. Interesting seventy, two hours for a lot of players. But. We will a call tonight with black posts retains figure out what we want to demand from the League and what we expect. You know the commissioner to do if he really wants to be part of this like he's GonNa have to give up some power situations and let the players to lead the initiative that we feel is is right. So you know even with Oursel-. Owner saying this stuff it's it just highlights how how, how much of this stuff that has been pushed under the rug for so long so we're GONNA, figure it out you know I I'm not the sole person who makes the plants. So I gotta go back to the collective group and figured out that you know you guys will find out once we all know. You have yeah I know you have training here men's we can't keep you too much longer I wanna give you just this last opportunity. If there's something you haven't said something you feel strongly about some, you need to say floor is yours. All. I'M GONNA. Say changes uncomfortable. That's it changes uncomfortable and you know it just to get on board with it and I it might be tough to swallow that. Spot just just keep trying to understand people's perspectives and hopefully you know that that adds more people are fight but like I said changes not comfortable. So don't don't expect it to be a routine. Thank. You appreciate the. Appreciate..

"And the fact that the conversation was had so much. We we really felt like our our minds and not even in game we're not really thinking about the game and. If we have to go out there to play the game. We want to be a hundred and ten percent focus in on. We don't just want to step on saying we we just WanNa, do this because of say you we have to get paid or we worried about maybe getting fine and all that. No our minds at there and we felt like it was it was time for us and take a stand. S You know both teams together with the players in you know relate a message, our coaches, and saying this is what us as a team which I had competition with my locker room of the guys in Dallas had a conversation with their locker rooms and we were village our coaches that Mrs decision where taken, and you know we really don't feel a hundred percent that we want to step on the field to. Last night. For what you've experienced, you mentioned it the organization that you had in Orlando, which is something we've never seen in MLS. How did this ripple across the League you talked about talking with Dallas but the other teams going on across the League and what has changed in this league that made something like this possible which I think you, we talked to Charlie I don't know that this was ever possible before in major league soccer for the players to have this type of connection. No yeah, and it's what shows that this change and hopefully this to get an Esa something that's more powerful than anything and it's not really just our league. You know it's it's great to see the example in our league, but just a it the. That's getting this in the country period starting with all the protests going on around the country because. A When's the last time? You saw you know people from different backgrounds, different race everybody coming together and taking a street. So that's what you know. It really feels like right now. Then when I before even starting the compensation on my team that had a couple of the players that's not black that actually because I went to composition started in our in our groups of talk and. Just right away tell the team about it and one or two players that's not black came up to me right away like, Hey, you hear what's going on. You see what's going on all these other teams what are we going to do and that just see? No gives you so much confidence to say, okay everybody's together on this. So when I even started a compensation in the locker room, I didn't even have to say much. Players were just like where board where which you guys hundred percent we want to go play by you know if people's head is nine, this one, hundred percent, we can do it. So that's a governess and the within players and the League and not just be honest not just the black players. It's what the the powerful message and hopefully the change you know it's coming because we're all together and we all doing it together. You are one of the most respected pleasant leave you you've you've played for so many season score, many goals not only you disrespected on a grand scale, but as a black player when you see the comments from ourselves, owner Dell, Dell Loy Hansen saying you know it's taken a lot of wind out of his sale when it comes to investing in the squad after seeing this and How how do you move forward as a league? How those ourselves? Clarence Field in this this me speaking personally for myself taken s highs Kamara and not for any not for the BBC not for any other black players on the players in the league. And then I saw and then you oversee saw what? Josie door you know put up and that's really what it is. This about us. This is about people humans, and if we're taking a stance is not really about business right now you know and yesterday I said it's the first time in my life. I've really felt when people say when you really Mad about the game is just a game and I'm like, what do you mean is just a game, but it is just a game because there are people that's been affected in many ways we talked about the pandemics and how you know people have lost jobs in lights and stuff like that, and we're talking about something right now. That's so much more. Than Me and you Charlie being you know black athletes, professional athletes, the privilege that we get other the normal black people don't get you know that you get pulled over. You're not gonNA get away with ticket because I definitely for Colorado rapids that they don't get you know. So now it's okay. We have this platform which we're gonNA take and respect all the players in in in in in Salt Lake had decided to take this stands with L. AFC. To do what they did, and if it's ownership is not going to back you and sandwich you I mean to be honest with you is a disgrace and it's really hard to hair stuff like that. That comes from from that end because players there are filling uncomfortable to same were plane for an ownership group that really doesn't support. US doesn't care for us I mean, that's not the the message that he should be sending out there come much thought I. In. This decision making process in these weeks leading up to it have you put into the people around you into the idea of the sacrifice because when you make a decision like this, you are putting yourself out there in a big way you are opening yourself up to. Repercussions, and we know what we know. For instance, what Reggie Cannon went through when he made his statements, we know what Reggie cannon went through smaller than what know you know a player like competent catchy go through you know like you lost a lot but it's not just about my name Kamara Reggie Cantona Colin Kaepernick this something bigger insists for a human race. You know it's not just for today it's for the future our kids and People after that. But like I said again we it's it's not just about me and Charlie, are skin tell us you yourself and you guys stand up for us because you believe in. What you've never really thought about you know you never thought about going to a restaurant and thinking about what you're wearing go into a restaurant because they won't let you win you know. But now you're finally here and that information were telling you that hey, this is real. This is what we go through. So now you're filling to paint where feelings. Doesn't really just worry about you know my name or my Russian saying. Job Or you know what? The be overly say about me. It's really what you feel inside your heart and that's what I. Love like a Luther Sasha questions interview and things that he said like it's very powerful because it's a guy that I've known since you know where young and play around California and you know people's hearts and it doesn't matter were closed the skin was but casinos the environments that he's grown up in and he knows what it means to just be free and not have to worry about you know what happens if I get pulled over. Guys not. Your expertise you don't have to have an answer tennis because I don't think any of us do, but you wake up this morning. What are you thinking about? Where do we go here whether it's mls whether it's players whether it's society whatever it is. It's it's it's it's it's hard. Obviously, you know the changes what we're looking for It's my even this morning when we got back in our in our in our plane to come back home yesterday we got home. And driving from the airport, what's the first time I'm driving and I'm like I'm not really going I'm not going to slow, but I'm definitely not going pass the speed limit because now we get home, it's it's twelve o'clock midnight the streets were empty but I'm just like looking around me I'm like. I don't WanNa get into any kind of you know. Like. CA- pulled over right now because empty there's no one here and I should not have that bear. You know I wake up this morning. Had Conversation with my wife and just trying to say you know just play back to her what happened yesterday but. I mean we're just hoping that we share some information one also from our league you know from from from dawn to to make a statement to you know. What do we do? Where do we go from here? You know because yes as players, we didn't want to be out there because we don't feel like we're one hundred percent ready to be out there. But at the same time from them from the commissioner and one owner has made a statement but other owners can come out and hopefully you know what support that they can show towards this moment in could be good. It gives us confidence. It gives you you know again, dot confidence the feel like the environment that you're in. You have sport from that environment. Feel you know feel.

"I would say to demand its first to develop programming for every single okay we trillions of the cell. There we will see and also provide something quite that team. Talk a little about been here a few years now. You know where you want to go. You know what your plan is improving the quality of players coming into major league soccer young players. How does this now fit into it? And what your ideas of what you're looking for over the next twelve to eighteen months. I see like an opportunity also to try to to try to connect the head of the body. The head of the pyramid with with the body will think we. We arrive After everyone re Have been created recreate recreated academy in two thousand seven so everyone's landscape So has arrived and say oh. They'll the new kingdom later on the blokes As you say which was kind of surprising. Actually now we'd love Investment Coaching Education in quality. And we we. We have to be so unbeknownst we doing. We've been doing a good a good job for Navy's lost four five years and I think people can see that now so we want to be these We won't have the capacity teachers who twin freelance into to be espionage. Ronel for kids in coaches and parents. We also open. We could a good relationship with with the club because again of the day what what bring these potently is also a momentum to make it clear what the objective the objective of administrative offshoot To to to develop kids for their academy for the steam For Shoe it won't be the case for all of them so and we are here to make sure and to guarantee the could have access to the best college program of something else another Professional League. But you want to. I think instead both to find a compromise all the non nundy in a in accepted To develop especially proficient so I think we have a kind of symbiotic approach to say we are going to have the keys which want to become professional and we are also a super bowl. The club which is a mission which is not not not to develop professional but good level of play and to be a kind of good environment to fulfill every kid's dream. This is the objective again. I think the attraction we had in the past where the following we need better competition and better I would say international and national domestic competition to challenge our coochie stuff and playoffs Kind of unbalance indem of Russia of games we won't to to to imprison evil of playful someplace else and for some teams but we also need to compete in to to be inclusive not exclusive. This is a message so sometimes it's easier to be in agreement when people than free so it was a kind of misunderstanding. Unity preaching also. There's still the unknown Fred.
