"So it's like, it goes to show doing that stuff is certainly worth your time and your investment and stuff like that. But it's crazy how the PGA Tour so archaic with stuff. But I'll tell you my badge this year. I now have a pee on it so I can go into the practice area last year I couldn't so that's a big step. Yeah. But even like Reggie Bush was out there and we share he has his agent, but he also has like a guy that wraps me that in the golf business that he's also helping Reggie a little bit because Reggie's really obsessed with golf. And I shot so when I was out there, my agent was like, hey, can you help get some content for Reggie? And I'm like, I don't know, man. I'm like, I'm there for Jason. If I have time and it works out, I will for sure. Well, it turned out they played the game. So I was like, well, shit, this is easy. And so I was like being very careful because even Reggie, who's probably the arguably one of the best, if not the best college football player ever. And your football legend, like, and Jason and him were interacting like awesome the whole time. Jason's giving him tips and good back and forth. I'm being careful as I shoot Reggie because he has rules. He can't post certain things for him to share. But at the same time, it's like, you know people who follow Reggie Bush like they like worship Reggie Bush. They love Reggie Bush. And also there may be some people who follow Reggie that never thought about getting into golf, but they could see that Reggie's obviously addicted to it. So he could bring in a ton of new people into the sport and like it's just ridiculous, but like we were able to cut something up, I thought was good. That he posted, but at the end of the day, it's like the PGA Tour needs to think bigger. "If you could do one and just one. You could either give Reggie Bush back as Heisman and reinstate him as the 2005 winner. Or you could put Pete Rose in the baseball on the baseball Hall of Fame ballot. So on the ballot. On the ballot. Okay. Yes, Paul. My rationale there is that Pete Rose was banned from baseball. The baseball Hall of Fame chose to follow the lead. They are under no obligation to leave Pete Rose or put him on the ballot, but they chose to. There's no rule that Pete Rose broke that takes you off the Hall of Fame ballot. There's no wording. They chose to do it. The college football Hall of Fame chose to ignore Reggie bush's NCA violations and put him in the Hall of Fame as they you could say should because they're not the NCAA. They're a separate entity called the college football Hall of Fame. They're a museum. Like the baseball Hall of Fame is a museum. It's very similar cases. They both have transgressions that haven't gone away. But the college football Hall of Fame didn't keep him off the ballot. Yeah, but Reggie is welcome back to USC. There was a ten year period where there couldn't be any association there. Even that's kind of similar. Like baseball does not have a ten year period, even though some people think they should with Pete rose. Well, Pete got a lifetime ban, but Reggie is now back. I don't know if it's the good graces, but he's welcome back to USC. He's going into the college football Hall of Fame. They are far more lenient when it comes to players or coaches who came under NCIA violations. Yes, but how do you, how is he in the Hall of Fame when his wins were vacated? But those are the wins that are helping him get into the Hall of Fame. Of well, his stats are still there. No, not really. It's like he didn't exist. It's like he didn't exist to the NCAA. Reggie bush's college career is all of it, not just that one season is considered damaged goods. To the NCA. And their rule books. Okay, but then if you're the college football Hall of Fame, what numbers are you going on since those numbers don't exist? Or they're saying they're leading the charge like, hey, Reggie bush's violation from years ago would be completely legal now. Well, he didn't pay these people back. That's where the problem started. The entire violation. So if you got NIL money, I don't even know how that would work now, because it's so different. But he didn't pay back, therefore it went public, then they found out that you're buying Reggie's parents a house, a car, whatever. And then USC paid the price, yes, Paul. In the era of the past two years, there's been a lot of posts and tweets, and even Reggie Bush is engaged about I like my Heisman back now because all the stuff I did is completely green lit. But the Heisman Trophy trust has never responded to this. If you look at the Heisman Trophy website, there's no person listed for O 5.

We have this trophy make a statement say we have now reviewed our standards are practices with the changing times. We acknowledge that this was one of the more high profile examples of where we missed the mark. Give me something. Give me sparing. You know what I mean? You think giving him allegedly. I'd like to say that you think giving him $100 or whatever the number was. May Reggie Bush go for 250 yards in a game? No, but realistically, I mean, where do we draw the line? So I'll go back to my fandom as a kid. I grew up at UNLV fan, right? Larry Johnson like football, So I wanted to make sure you're talking about basketball. But let's look at that running Rebels team that won a national championship one of 3 73 over Duke. Carve it, I guess well or like the picture on the newspaper of them with like a known like gambling, But all of those, you start looking back at it and our programs they're going to start looking at and say, Well, you gave us these penalties and look at the revenue lost and now we're going to turn around and say You owe us something like Where does the line fall to me? Heisman is probably not showing up at Reggie's house, but acknowledging some of our bigger high profile missteps to me in good faith. Now, that may not be enough for Reggie very rarely. What we saw him play. We know he won the Heisman. We know we saw with our own right. What? What's a vicious point about where the line is just reinstated? Reinstate? Yes, it seems pretty simple, but at a minimum for me, Um Least make a statement acknowledges show that you're trying to be more progressive in the university didn't lose. The university didn't lose revenue because they took Reggie's Heisman. This is not UNLV is basketball, but God s M u But everything is about precedent. That is just out as well as we're gonna talk about the recruiting landscape that has ramped up dramatically this month in june and some transfer news so i anything you would like to share from your vacation. I went to the great city of saint. Louis where my Were my in laws. Live and where my wife. And i got married and celebrated our ten year anniversary and it was great. It was my first time travelling since the pandemic and it's just great to be Backout in the world living a you know other than the masks on the airplane just fairly normal pre march twenty twenty time so good while it's crazy. It's i didn't think about. It's ten years what i remembered a little bit about the trip to your wedding was at one point going back to the hotel and pouring through a lot of emails that we're going to go in the back of the leech book so well. That's not where. I thought you were going with that. I thought i mean. I'll never forget coming down to brunch the morning after the wedding. You know you always have like a people. Do you know brunch for the family members. Smithtown in the espn was on the tv. And on the ticker. Jim tressel has resigned as ohio state coach. As like not my problem. Wow i didn't. I didn't i don't remember that While i didn't remember the time obviously remember all the conversation going on. That i don't i wasn't you but i definitely remember a couple of the writer. What's weird about that is our number one of my bosses at espn. We had already done and this was the first time. I think i had ever done something like this where you wrote ahead of time knowing that this is likely to happen so i remember having a. I don't know if it was a candidates list of who ohio state would go after. I don't remember what we ran. But i remember. We had a story ready to go. And i remember going up when i was at the airport. I didn't realize it was that it was at your wedding. That was from coming out of that at that time though. That's interesting Trust me. I have many other memories from that weekend. There's nothing to do with college. Football thankfully but hard hard to forget that one Okay hall of fame. I think so it gets the college football hall of fame processes so confusing and so different from the pros. And you know we haven't even inducted the twenty twenty one class yet. I believe that happens in december and they've already put out the ballot for the twenty twenty two class but You know this. One made a lot of waves Wednesday morning because of a lot of stars on this. We'll get into it but you know your big noon colleague jewish on there and it's a big deal because you're talking about a guy who's heisman got taken away who's you know. College legacy has In many ways you know become synonymous with this scandal But this was the first time he could actually be nominated for the hall of fame by usc because his You know he was associated for a decade from usc. And i just think it's interesting that you all these years later. It's like i think the the narrative around that those sanctions have have just completely changed from. He's a villain to not that he was wrong. But that like just the the punishment didn't fit the crime so i don't think people think it's pretty cool that he's on the ballot. Yeah i think just in terms of what he was as a player You know it's crazy to me. Just doing the math. And i think i told you this story before and i feel like i probably told on the podcast but i i went with him. He came with us too. Big twelve mediais a couple years ago. And what what didn't add up to me was. The players were in awe of reggie bush in a way that look. There's a lot of Celebrity former football players who are now in the media and look i work with a bunch of them but aside from maybe sam darnold how these players look at reggie. Bush is way different than say how they look at matt winer or or brady quinn or who. Whoever you know is at your network with reggie. There was like an awe of celebrity like in a different way. Now you know. I think some of it is for a bunch of different aspects of celebrity. But you'd think two thousand and five at usc cd llamas one of them who fit into category. Oh my god. That's reggie bush kind of thing and there was a bummer players at iowa state. Oh my god. That's reggie bush like stop in your tracks. That's like those you know. What does that fourteen years earlier. So a lot of those kids were seven six years old and everything like that. And i know there's a video game component and there's youtube stuff to it But just a kind of an iconic player that i think that that is you know like you just list go through the list of the guys on the ballot and i you know what i wanted to do for part of this podcast was say okay. Let's put our ten guys in each go. Kay this is the ten guys. I would absolutely try to put in this year. Or whatever and it's hard. I was like are limited to ten and i ended up with eighteen. And now you know whittle it down or whatever You know reggie was. One of those players were stats. Don't do him in the other. The other day. I showed my son. He's into football. And so you know one point. We watched a ten minute clip of barry sanders in the nfl which blew his mind. And then i was okay. I wanna show you this. And i was like i showed him reggie and he was. I couldn't believe that. And i was like you've actually met him and he was like you know kind of i don't remember him as again. One day he came in he'd left his laptop somewhere. Or whatever whatever and it was just like i'd just to see the highlights again for me even just the highlights of fresno state or against arkansas is just he played at a just different speed So it's cool to see that. He's you know on the ballot. I would ask you when you went through the ballot as we do. Who would be your ten guys like. Okay these the first time guys on putting what's your easy is so the email i got had their seventy eight guys on this ballot right and and it's not like any of them are completely undeserving. But the email i got at i highlighted the ones who are on there for the first time i could pick ten guys just off that list of you know just just the guys appearing on the first time. Like lavar arrington reggie bush michael crabtree work done. Who i don't understand yeah. I didn't understand that. you know. Andrew luck bryant mckinnie callan more And but they're seventy eight names in total You know to me all right. You wanna do a draft We could do that. Let's do that because we're going to have overlap and that way my eighteen list. I assume we're getting all of them. In and i also know a couple of years so i'm like i'm not gonna pick I do think that the first one that i want to get in. And then realize all of the things that i've accomplished and be thankful for what i've accomplished and now set my ground on and know that there's so much more to to accomplish to fulfill purpose vision in life and And each and every day. I see more and more clearly now. You know when i was reading a calvin johnson's forward on your book. He said you know he's. He struggled in his early career. I didn't know this about him i. I haven't studied his career in depth but he said he struggled early in his career and then somebody managed to get him to to try at least five minutes a day and eventually that led into more time and then he and he became megatonne right. He became this guy who who transforms a giant on the field and Stopping him. I mean if if if stafford got the ball to forget about it you know exactly. Yeah yeah he was had opportunity to watch him in person you know in college and it was like was like Watson reggie bush you know When reggie bush was running back at usc it was mesmerizing watching him. "Aj hinch and the interview. He did finally breaking his silence of the disgraced astros manager who was fired in the wake of the breaking story in major league. But I'm just saying when eighty percent of they're games that that's the only reason and this could have It doesn't mean that Wa. The team couldn't have beaten them at some point. I'm not denying that but it's a reason why you can't take the championship and I don't think that that will work for majorly based on you can easily take like the championship. I'm doing great excellent. You know, it's funny this week. I heard I don't know if you heard this. But. Greg Williams who to me. Why don't really work in Cleveland locally in the week? And I have no desire for Greg Williams to remain the long-term coach Gregg Williams. I think he's about as old school is old school gets and he referred to some advanced analytics this week. And I almost was brought to tears Sam because well, I think I think that all sports need to have a good balance between old school scouting and new school analytics you'll so many old school football guys are so hesitant look where we are in baseball. Now. Right. The sport is completely run. Everybody has an analytics department in basketball and football is dragging their feet a little bit more in some organizations, but the here an old school coach like Greg Williams referred to some advanced analytics. That was that was wild for me to hear it must have. I don't know if you heard it. But it probably would've made you happy. If you did. Yeah. I think you're right football is behind baseball. And how that kind of stuff is gone, but everybody understands that it can help you how you present it to all of these people know, so head coaches are often the last guy to get on board. But it's because you need to present it to them in in the right away. Now, there's a ton of ways that say the PS database can help is those guys. But if you come to them initially where you know, something they don't wanna hear they're not going to buy. But if you immediately show them something, you know, a fancy pretty grasp the chosen exactly what they've been saying for years, suddenly they're all on board. So I think a lot of teams the league you're just starting to sort of see this time where the analytics guys or people that have been using the stuff within the Bill. Building for years are finally starting to figure out how to present it to coaches added presented to general manager is and you know, the guys bad again in front of the media. And that's when you're starting to see this filter out. I think it's been used a lot within the building for years already. But now we're starting to see those guys use it on a daily basis and get the headline stuff sent to them in a way that they're they're much more comfortable with gesturing at an and actually taking it on board. We're talking with Sam Monson pro football focus lead analysts Sam. Baker Mayfield has had a tremendous season. As a rookie as put up some big old school numbers if you will. But when when you went from a pro football, focus perspective when you guys run the numbers on what he's done. How would how does he great out compared to some other rookie quarterback's of the past? Yeah. I think you do need to go to quarterbacks with a pass because he hadn't shoulders above any other rookie season right now. He's a top ten grade quarterback in the NFL. He's tense overall. Just one physician behind Russell Wilson. So you're already talking about it really really well graded player right off the five. And obviously pro football focus was very high invade your Mayfield coming out were the guy is the winter by for him saying that he was the best prospect in this draft in it really wasn't close to the next guy. I think so far. That's that is being born out. We have seen better performances in the past rookies. I think that twenty twelve season was a pretty incredible year for rookie performances. Obviously it didn't last because RG three in particular had a phenomenal season that year, and then tours and really hasn't been the same player since. But you know, Baker Mayfield is looking as good as we've seen any rookie quarterback. Look probably dating by twenty twelve season. We're seeing some really impressive play from him. And I think his play generally has been better than even the statistics suggest because you had one of the highest rates in the NFL right five and drop rates. And unlike most of the times when a receiver drops the ball, it's an incomplete passes. It's not doing that much damage to your passer rating, or whatever but Baker mayfield's have multiple assets that have been hit his receivers and my hands and ended up as interceptions. So those are taking a sledgehammer to operating over the course of the season. It's ninety three. Point four right now. And this is a season where passing is exploded operating ninety three point four is nice great at the moment. But it's his performance has been way better than that. We're talking with Sam Monson lead analyst pro football, focus Sam, let's talk about another rookie and that saquon Barkley who probably be battling Baker Mayfield for rookie of the year. From an offensive standpoint. There's been other good rookie running back but saquon Barkley make over two thousand total yards this season. How does he compare to Todd Gurley Leonard four nets and some of the other big rookie seasons from running backs? Yeah. I mean saquon Barkley just moved into first edition CFS running back rankings. He's the the number one guy right now through the through part of the season. He's been incredible. He's been everything that everybody who was championing him saying he would be coming out. I think he's been better than we thought. He might be there. The idea that he was a perfect running back prospect that don't think really holds up work holes in his game in particular. This tendency to to be a bit. Reggie Bush in terms of wanting to balance everything outside to look for that clay, but he's gotten a lot better in his first year at not doing that at taking ugly yards when they're there. And that's all there to be had. And it's still maximizing goes explosive plays getting huge games. Those are there. So he has been fantastic. I think again he's been as good as any rookie running back the receipt for a number of years. Really? He's I guess he's played as well. As Alvin Kamara did last year as a rookie on he's done more fulltime base. So he already has you know, two hundred more snaps than Kamara managed all last season playing that same kind of rate is Amari Cooper. Has memorial Cooper's play been much better. Or is just a the players around him made him much better. I think it's a bit of both, you know, playing wide receiver it so difficult to play. Well, if the ball isn't coming in your direction off the ball is coming in your direction in attachable manner. Having you can do about it. There's only so much fancy route running against air. You can do if the ball isn't coming your way. So I think we're seeing Amari Cooper was always a quality route runaround player that would get consistently open. And now we're seeing what happens when you target that guy. He's still a very good player and I play put up big numbers. And obviously, that's that's meaning that his greatest better because he's being given the ball and that talent is being maximized. So you know, I think that that was always there that that talent that play was always inherited his game. Even in Oakland. The raiders just weren't making use of it. We're talking with Sam Monson pro football focus lead analyst. Sam. I know you guys today had an article about projecting Cuyler Murray's pro potential. I'm curious because obviously he's a top ten pick and major league baseball. He's giving compared to Ricky Henderson. He signed a four and a half million dollar bonus. There would have to give it back obviously at a even a better year than Baker Mayfield did this past year in college, which is hard to believe. But obviously, you know, people make a thing about the thing about Baker mayfield's hike, which I thought was over rated. But obviously calamari isn't even close those big as as Baker Mayfield. A what is his potential d do you think he could be a good NFL quarterback? I think he could be, you know, you're right people that the highest the big question Mark because people did make an issue out of Baker Mayfield. Tighter on Baker Mayfield is short for an NFL quarterback. But not, you know, it's not unprecedented. We've seen quarterbacks Baker Mayfield type successful in the past. They're not obviously, not as many as there are as you know, six with three quarterbacks, but those guys have existed and they've been good in the past. I don't I don't know that we've ever seen quarterback that is Kyla Murray's Hite house significant success at the end up, right? You know, he is going to be when we get the official number on him. If it ever gets that far he's going to be significantly shorter than even a guy like Russell Wilson. And you would be in legitimately uncharted territory. When it comes to that.
