"Who say i don't remember my dreams and like how do you biggest thing for that apparently is to drink water before bed. Try to wake up From me it is three hours before. I actually wake up. If you could set your alarm like three or four in the morning wake yourself up and then go back to sleep. You should be remember. Eugene oh yeah that's annoying. I wouldn't go back to sleep after that. You wouldn't do that so if you can't then i would put a journal by your bed and just become very aware that you're gonna lay there. Don't move positions don't over don't do anything. Lay there in have like a little journal by your bed with the intention that you're going to write down your dream and you should start conscious at the moment you wake up. Stay in that dream. State in the dream state. Don't move except for your dream journal but there and think of your dream and as you move or as soon as you start thinking i should make coffee. I wonder if anyone's then then it goes away. Yeah okay that's cool. That's so i did that. Dream journal art book a while ago and one of our episodes and that actually worked. Because i knew. I had to draw what i just jumped about and so i had that right by my bed and it was amazing. How when you get into that mode you really do. You can remember him so so that if anybody wants to it there's no big science you just wake up that car mine is yeah anyway so yeah those things okay like your man but i'm wild. We now have a wild wing. Yeah that'd be fun to twelve. Yeah that sorry game that we had our friend when he was a little boy. My weirdo sister and her friend would play. Stand up ding-dong with this This leads into your music story but no okay. We'll let stand up ding-dong no okay. I'll say it really quick. He was just a little kid and every time he change his diaper. He had a little baby. That would just stand up like a little vienna. Sausage little tiny teeny weeny thumb thing. There it is and we always sang. The song like stand up ding dong and as he got older like toddler. We'd be like do the stand up. Ding dogs so he take off his diaper and lay on the ground and we thought it was so funny that we're they were all very young. There's no touching her. Where i had this whole vision like you guys would hold hands and do a little circle going standard thing and have it go okay. It was just a tiny little weenie. "Hello thank you for joining the American Revolution Today. Episode one twenty four back across the Delaware so last week as the battle of Trenton came to an end by mid morning on December. Twenty six seventeen seventy six. The Americans held the town and the few remaining meaning enemy soldiers scattered amazingly the American suffered no combat deaths and only five wounded however several men later died I from the horrific march through the storm the night before there are several accounts of deaths later that night and in the following day's from exhaustion exposure Asia and hypothermia despite the victory Washington could not simply sit back and enjoy the moment there were still thousands of Haitians under Colonel Uh-huh Car-o-van done up to his South in Mount Holly along with more Hessian and British regiments to his north in Princeton around four or five hundred Hutchins at Trenton had escaped along with many Hessian women and children camp followers most of these endured a ten mile forced march to Princeton. Of course as word reached these other regiments. There was always a chance of counterattack. Washington deployed some companies to March north or South looking for Haitians who had fled the field of battle. They also searched buildings in town looking for enemies. Still Hiding General Washington along with General Greene visited the dying Hessian commander Colonel Role at the Methodist Church after his death colonel raw would take the primary Mary blame for the days loss. British leader's noted his failure to build defensive entrenchments around town or to send out sufficient patrols to detect the Hetemi as they crossed the river. But of course hindsight is twenty twenty most of the other outpost commanders had behaved similarly to roll before the attack as Carl role lay dying. The continentals collected prisoners and secured the town. The dead were looted of anything of value. The capture capture of clothing equipment and cannons all added to the American victory. The Hessian prisoners had been told to expect to be killed if they were captured. The frightened prisoners were relieved to be treated reasonably well somehow equipment taken from them such as their knapsacks the Hessian brass helmets limits were also highly prized by the victors. The hashes will be marched back to the river and transported on the same boats. Used by the continentals at McKie's and Johnson's ferry where they were moved to Pennsylvania out earlier in the day a few of the Hash and equipment were actually crossed at the closer sir. Trenton ferry. That's where General Ewing had been unable to cross the night before but some of the same problems that prevented general ewing from crossing continued into the next day and as whether conditioned worsened a little again. The continentals marched most of the prisoners. Back to McCarthy's and Johnson's since vary where they still had those larcher Durham boats for transportation once in Pennsylvania. The prisoners spent a few days with the army Washington. Ten then move them to Philadelphia where he ordered. The officers separated from the men. Both were treated reasonably well but he wanted the enlisted men to be taught about the ideals of liberty so that if returned these ideals might spread through the Hessian ranks eventually the prisoners would be transported to through the western part of Pennsylvania Maryland and Virginia. There many of them lived on parole among German speaking colonists most of them were able to who live and work in the communities will certain restrictions on how far they can travel and with nightly curfews. Many of the soldiers enjoyed their new condition so much coach that they opted to stay in America after the war there were forty eight wounded Hessian officers and men including the injured commander Colonel Role received parole. This meant that they were left in Trenton under the promise that they would not take up arms again and less exchanged for American prisoners. However the reality was most of these wounded were so severely wounded that they would not arrive a trip back to Pennsylvania would almost certainly kill them? Colonel Role as I said died that evening but one young lieutenant with a spinal injury remained in Trenton convalescing for several months Washington conferred with his generals about whether they should continue their attack by taking the fight to Princeton or Mt Holly or whether it would be better to take the win and simply retreat back to Pennsylvania before the enemy could counterattack. Washington's initial plan had been to meet up with the forces under Colonel John Cadwalader and General James Ewing who they said were supposed to have crossed further down river the same night that Washington Cross and they were to attack the three thousand British and Hessian soldiers at Mt Holly but since neither of those crossings had been successful Washington found himself on his own the Americans of course course were exhausted many were suffering from hypothermia and frostbite as well the weather was also still a mix of snow and freezing rain the made any movement on the roads miserable and would likely increase the deaths related to hypothermia. It did not help that. The soldiers had also so discovered several barrels of rum in town and many of them got roaring drunk before the officers discovered what they had done. The American still had the nine eight hundred Hessian prisoners to control as well at least part of the army would have to remove the prisoners to Pennsylvania. Even if the rest decided to engage the enemy the at another location or stayed in Trenton to await a counterattack. If the continentals moved against the enemy at Mt Holly they would be attacking a force. Yes that was larger than they were the force in Mount. Holly was probably about twice as large as the Trenton garrison and also the attackers would no longer have the element of of surprise in the end. Washington decided to take their prisoners and captured booty and pull everyone back to Pennsylvania. The army spent the rest of the day at another sleepless night. Attempting to recross the Delaware River. The snow had turned back to rain during the day making travel on the roads into a muddy mess later in the day everything began to refrees making the wet soldiers even more miserable despite the continuing problems with ice the river the army spent much of the evening and night moving everything back to Pennsylvania many officers and men had been up for three straight eight days and nights running on little more than adrenaline as I said many suffered from frostbite hypothermia and other illnesses brought on as the result of being cold wet Hungary and sleep deprived. The river was even icier than the night before and the army as I said had to move the nine hundred prisoners as well as six additional cannon and numerous captured horses and other equipment in addition to everything they had brought over the first time. Many soldiers reported tried hi to walk across the ice to reach the boats only to have it break and have them fall into the river. There were no reports of drowning. But of course getting getting soaking wet in freezing water could have very real consequences for your health even so the men were booed by their win and this was the most hard the core of the larger army that had been dwindling down over the prior few months then is one example during the battle a gun carriage. I mentioned had broken meeting that the Canon no longer had wheels and could not be moved general. Knox had ordered the guns spiked and abandoned as part of their retreat. One one sergeant refuse to do so he got four other soldiers to help him drag the Canon as deadweight across the ground for miles back to the river. The cannon was probably like two thousand pounds dragging the weapon was slow going so slow that even the rearguard past them General Knox locks once again wrote up and told them to abandon the gun and get to the river at one point. The team thought a party of British light horse was approaching them although it turned doubt fortunately for them to be a group of quakers they eventually got the gun to the river and into a boat General Knox wrote up and ask them where the Scud had come from from when the men told him it was the one he had ordered abandoned at Trenton he prays the men for their initiative in bringing back anyway at great risk to themselves. So these are the kind of self motivated enthusiastic. Hardworking men were talking about with great effort by the morning of December twenty seventh the day after after the battle. The bulk of the army equipment and prisoners were all safely back in Pennsylvania on the twenty seventh general Washington had lunch with some of the captured Hessian officers. They discussed the battle and what the Hashes had done wrong. By all accounts it was a polite cordial and friendly meeting between professional officers. General Washington even granted Hessian Lieutenant Witter Halt Parole to return to Trenton and collect some personal property that he had left behind winner. Holt returned to Trenton collected his items and then return to the American lines to begin his imprisonment. Such was the level of trust and honor between officers Washington however was not quite ready to declare victory and settled into winter quarters on the afternoon of the twenty seventh. He held another council of war to discuss the possibility of future operations to follow up on their success. US As the council met a courier arrived with news remember Colonel Cadwalader who was supposed to cross the Delaware the same night as Washington Washington but further down river. Well he had failed to cross that night or the next day but on the morning of the twenty seventh his men mostly Pennsylvania Slovenia associated which are local militia had managed to get eighteen hundred men across the river and were near Burlington New Jersey. They had gotten word. That Washington had reached Trenton. And were all the more motivated to participate in the attack and join him by the time they learned that afternoon that Washington forces had retreated back to Pennsylvania. They decided after some debate to proceed forward anyway so while Washington was retreating another army he was advancing with communication delays leading to all this confusion out the associated who are now a New Jersey. Found the Hashes. Mostly those under Colonel Donovan Donna in disarray. It turned out that Vandana was so shaken when he got news of Trenton that he immediately retreated north toward Princeton even abandoned some of his own sick and wounded to speed up the retreat but according to at least one source did not abandon the hundred and fifty wagons full of plunder under that. His army had taken that evening scouts road. As far as Allentown New Jersey. A small town east of Trenton. Where Colonel Von Don Obsessions and had spent the previous night? They learned fun done. I've had divided his retreating force moving to both Princeton and Brunswick with the heavens in full full retreat and with the associated now across the river Washington believe they could force all enemy forces out of the area and retake West Jersey. Some of Washington's generals in Pennsylvania thought this was madness. The continental army was still sick and exhausted from its first raid. They were not ready to launch another rate. Some of the men had not even made it back to their camps until noon that day even healthy men needed time to sleep eat and and dry out also. The British could very likely be.

But David Nason from best inspections LLC is in our old friend say old, I work with you a number of years. I'm sorry. On people's true value should've thought about that. That's quite a right. I am old. No, no, offer value hardware stores are long time. So far, you've got some products in that you both us and you've seen work and people's true value and all the true value, sell so far. What are we talked about? Because we always get question. But this mold mould racer. Right. So we have the moldy racer are mold control. And it's it's amazing. It's no, please. Novia sees and it's older lists. So you use it in your bathroom or you use it on things. And there's no older with because there's no bleach or Monja in. It's a eliminates and prevents mold mildew from coming back and actually crystalizes. It goes out into the atmosphere, and it's a product that actually worked magic magic. I maybe I'm am. I the only one that likes to smell of bleach. Seriously. I think it's like it says, yes, something is clean. Maybe that's what I like about it. Maybe it's do you like the smell of gasoline too? Okay. No. That's different bleachers better. Anyway. Okay. And there's a reason that they make an odor product. Okay. So we talked about that and about poor and restore if you've got a garage that's in rough shape. Yes. Garage decks, patios, driveways, you apply. It you. Let it dry in. You sweep it away. Perfect no, scrubbing Irving even better than sticks sticks. It's a primer to us on shiny surfaces. Like tile. You can use it over. While paper just remember, you're only blacking out. What's behind there? You're not blocking seems or anything like that. But the color, and and your wallpaper you can paint over. And you've used it at the store a lot. Yes. Yeah. Okay. All right. Nice. All right. We're in talk a little bit more about that. Let's to Walla tosa Fritz has a question Comoran Fritz. I had forgotten about ten years ago. I last this last winter and stylish. Stamm? Back river. Spotted the c word to do. I have to have the refree done. Or is that just a good ice rubber rise by four foot up? I'm still have. Yeah. It's difficult to to do anything about that unless you're gonna have the shingles removed. So that you can put like an ice and water product on the roof before the shingles go on. Lot of times ice dams are kind of a one time occurrence and the best thing to avoid that in the future is actually to rake the snow off the roof so to try to prevent them from happening. So the next time you have the roof replaced. Danny's getting his done here soon. So you got to make sure in valleys and lower areas that they put a product called ice and water shield on the roof that we have water does get behind the underneath the shingles. It gets down to that water shield and then and then drains away properly, but we threw a lot. And I mean, mother nature through. Yeah. It rough winter. Yeah. You're wishing you put a steel Rothe on. I do I know they look great Nick laws a lot. But they look great. And they I mean. It just slides off. Yeah. They don't look metal. They look like an actual shingle. There are a lot of metal shingles available now. But if I if I had one I would want it to look like steel because I would want to be in steel roof. That's what I'd want people's true. Really good website. I mean, if you're looking and the amount of services that you have you.

"John. Okay. Man eater. Toby chilly in the morning. It's an seven point one washout them with lots of delays. And now this just any closing Loudon county schools were delayed by two hours and now they're closed. They joined Prince William schools and Faulk here county schools as being closed today due to the weather. I guess caution the ice they need to let it clear let things heat up. So they're going to close schools today in Loudon county that is a change. If you went the complete list, we've got it for you wash them dot com slash closings. Thanks for waking up with Toby in Chile in the morning, and this could be very helpful for. Well. This is another closure that you would need right in a relationship. So it's not easy when you break up with somebody, especially if you guys were living together because that takes it to another level of parting ways, right? Get complicated. There's a break-up concierge service. It's onward is the name of the on demand service and helps you deal with some of the awkward parts of the break-up, helping you pack stuff, helping you find a new place to live helping you move out right now this break. Concierge is available in New York City, but on word wants to expand to L A, Denver San Francisco and right here in the DNB in the next year could be very very helpful in DC. Survey that we saw last week here on the show twenty eight percent of people stand bad relationships because they are overwhelmed. There's a fear of moving on cost of moving on. And if you have someone that can step in to help you and you're in a bad relationship service like this could be life saving game changing and priceless. So that's three out of ten when you what you said that people are relationships right now, initially when I saw this. I was like, well, why didn't you to concierge aren't friends doing all these things like helping you move or helping you find a place sometimes when you break up, it's something you have to go through alone. And by the way, there's a degree of hate to say this. But there's a degree of shame. Sometimes you feel personally like a relationship ends. I mean, that's a failure. Also, you know, burdening your friends. You don't wanna have you don't wanna feel like you're burning? Right. Not that as a friend. You feel like you're you're you know, you'd love to help somebody. Asking for that kind of help asking a professional is very different than asking somebody, you know, but you custom make whatever you need. I mean, they can even wait for the cable guy at your new place. They can also help play matchmaker or therapist this service called onward. It would be great. I think because like you just said Chile they are kind of outside of your loop. And sometimes when they're outside of the loop. They stick to the business of making sure you're taking care, and that's a good thing, especially their opinions to themselves. Well, when you're getting out of a relationship that I get okay. Your credit card cleared close. Okay. Well, we'll listen. Go ahead. Talk move coming tomorrow. The Cable's going to be set up the dogs getting walk. You've got a new order. And by the way, we burned all of his pictures. Right. Good service. Hopefully it will arrive in DC soon. And if you use it give us reviews or just send us the link to your yelp reviews when she gives it we'd love to read those. And if you want to read more about this Toby in Chile page, find it wash FM dot com coming up in top stories. What are you working on? Well, we do have a new closure. And why can't I find my stories? Yeah. I think that you want to tell us all about best friends. Oh, yes. How many best friends? I think how many best friends the average woman has in her lifetime. Not just currently. And I think the number is going to surprise you. That's coming up in minutes. So stay with us here. Toby and chilly in the morning on ninety seven point one wash FM traffic. Best your traffic concierge, the Rosenthal landrover Tyson's traffic center. This report brought to you by king. How are you, ma'am? I'm giving the pitcher, Pat, I'm doing, okay. But it all depends on where you are coming from could be a little bit icy underfoot. There's moisture in the air and fall for every once visibility is lousy, and it could Refrees stick with the major route don't take that back road or that popular cut through you want. The most traveled roadways metro rails on normal service is open and on time. Amtrak train sixty seven is one hour and twenty five minutes late Dag what Toby until early in the morning. "And that's when I saw it. I saw Thursday. Maybe it's on Friday, so pitas all ticked off come on. It's funny beat loaf who the hell wants beat loaf. Beat it with your beat LA. Beat it beat it with your beat loaf. Of course, Pete is going go twisted and bent shape. So I mentioned a little follow up to the make America. Great controversy. Well, here's the deal. Last week. We have the story of a chef and part owner of a beer garden restaurant called was it. Voest hall. I think verse verse call out in San Mateo, California, which is in the San Francisco Bay area, and he'd made a comment that anyone wearing a native America. Great again hat at his establishment that they would not be served or he would ask him to leave. Whatever the story was and then tried to suggest that the make America great again hat was sorta like a white hole the KKK. I mean, really preposterous. I don't have a make-america-great-again hat. I don't choose to wear one different strokes different phones that will make you a racist. If you wanted to support Trump with a make-america-great-again hat. So the story just devolved, and he got all kinds of ranting and raving and all kinds of comments and responses. The chefs name is Jay Kenji Lopez all. But you're not going to believe this. So what's the follow up story? Well in my never ending quest to perfect my catchy. Oh, e peppy. Which is just a wonderfully simplistic Italian dish. But it can be challenging to make its Roman pasta you use. Well, a Buca telly or a spaghetti. I typically use a spaghetti. And it's very simple. It's the spaghetti. It's olive oil. Fresh cracked pepper. The secret key ingredient is a Pekka Rino Romano. And the secret sort of is using a Sardinian Pekka Rino Romano like a Sordo because it's little saltier and adds a little more salty flavor with the cheese. And that's all it is it's a creamy cheesy, and you want the cheese to cling to every stranded at spaghetti sauce spaghetti the olive oil. I mean, the speed he's gotta be Al dente, mushy, pasta, drives me freak and nuts. So in my never ending quest to perfect catch. Yo peppy. I stumbled across this video of a guy making the dish and commenting on the dish on a website called serious eats, which I've seen the website before I've pulled some recipes for there in the past guess what it's the chef. It's the chef with the mega hat who did want people at his place in San Mateo, California. He was doing the video making catch you pay. And apparently, he's a big contributor to this serious eats website. What are the odds that I just talked about him on on Friday's program? A next watching a video of him. Yeah. I tweeted this out over the weekend. Where's my tweet? What are the odds in my quest? The perfect catchily Pepe I found this article and video of a chef at chef. It's this j Kenji Lopez ault who am I talking about this week, blah, blah, blah, the restaurant tour refree, a review service to maga- hat wears is folks is that nuts me, just it's. Crazy Eddie and say, I mean, what are the odds of that? Lightning round. I have oh one two three. I've got like five things I've got to get to including the TSA agent at Orlando's international airport doing a header off of a hotel balcony into the atrium into the airport. What L?.

"And that was really what was a challenge for us early on in the northern part of the state. This was easy. It was snow. We knew it was gonna be still we were able to pre treat the roads in the southern part of the state. We knew it was going to be rain. So we couldn't get out ahead of it. But the central Ohio area, basically right along that I seventy corridor. It was really good challenges to what kind of conditions. We were gonna see. But we got great guidance. And we were able to do the best. We can we still got more than twelve hundred miles out there right now. Better currently going around the state and empowering in treating roads and trying to get things cleared up his best began. So what do you want people to know about the roadways right now who has it the worst? Well, the northern part of the state right now is still probably some of the worst condition roads Nejd just because of the sheer volume of snow that they got a couple that with the flat terrain allowing these these winds to continue to blow obviously we're not seeing the winds as high as we saw overnight, but we are still seeing some windy conditions, and that's causing some blowing and drifting problems for us. And then throw in the really super cold temperatures. And that's really another challenge for us because salts which is our main tool for fighting still nice. It's really effective down to about fifteen twenty degrees. And then we start doing some additives in or using different materials. Right now. Why is that the case Matt is not absorb it? Does there's not enough moisture for it to absorb at that point. And that's why you have to put the additives and to give it a little more hold. Well. Yes. So what is it starts at chemical reaction that actually melts the salt dissolves, the salt, and and that's what really melts the ice. So we'll use a thing called the sheet, which is actually an extract of beets. And it starts the chemical reaction that helps to activate the salt. We also use calcium chloride, which is another material that will will help mil ice at low temperatures. So fortunately, we don't usually have to use that too much in salt is usually just get old rock salt mine right under Lake Erie is usually the best tool for us. But in cases like this. We have to go back to the toolbox and find some other things to help us and things are improving. So it's obviously making a difference at this point, the only ones who were really disappointed with this storm system, teachers and. Parents of kids and students because it fell on the weekend. And they already have tomorrow off for the most part. So what the heck, you know, could have come through the week with them. Then then maybe they'd be happy with everybody. Well, that was a big plus for us because the bigger for us to get the roads clear is honestly people driving on the road. Yeah. That's true. And so the fact that the that the real teeth of the storm hit overnight and on the weekends made it, you know, sort of a double thumbs up from us as far as timing goes, you know, because but didn't have to worry about being stuck in traffic with our snow plows or or things like that. So we're really helps to be able to get things cleared off much quicker. The fact that we're still going to be dealing with Refrees probably tomorrow morning. Fortunately will have fewer people on the road because of the holiday so that again will be a plus for us so twelve hundred plows around the state right now, and they're going to keep going. It sounds like with rephrase tomorrow mad. Oh, yeah. Yeah. They're not gonna stop until we feel toughen it that the things are going to be safe and passable for a while here. So we're going to see temperatures warm up a little bit. Definitely she wins die down. And then once all of that happens also pretty confident about things. But as I look at cameras on that on on our dot com website. You know, the road conditions certainly are looking better. We're starting to see more pavement. And that is a plus one thing I'd like to add is what roads we take care of it. Oh, dots. Because there seems to be a lot of confusion. We don't do the neighborhood sidestreets. We're not going to be your call to sack. We don't do your neighborhood streets is responsible state and US routes outside municipalities and all the interstate. So we've been getting a lot of questions today. Why have I seen a plow in my alley? You won't see an ODA slow. See that in my alley. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I we came in. And we were talking about this, right? When we went on the air, but three fifteen to seventy that. I took on my way to get here looked outstanding. So everybody be patient. And I know you want to always remind people to keep the distance when they are driving behind the plows. Absolutely. We had our plows hit sixty four times last winter alone. Oh, my. So obviously when that happens not only does that potentially hurt our drivers or you. But he's also takes cloud service. And so we're not able to continue with that piece of machinery. So we ask people to be careful around the plows. Give them space to move know that they are out there. They're gonna be driving slower than normal traffic, and they just want to get the job done. Get home there on twelve hour shifts right now, and so at the end of their shift, they're pretty tired, and when they still have to drive home, and then they come back and do it all over again. So they want to get the job done as quickly and safely as possible. We will support them Matt bruning with oh dot press secretary over there. Thank you for giving a call in talking to us today, absolutely anytime and coming up, we are going to have a story we have to warm your hearts a little bit because it is so cold outside. "Exactly exactly why. I'm sure now he regrets it. But sure, especially Whitey, and you know, but it was always very important to them that my sister. And I have be exposed to, you know, the great American songbook the great musicals that that they had grown up with. And you know, so they kind of drilled it into early. So I had a sometimes that works, and then sometimes it doesn't work. I know you're you're close with your sister. I did work on her because oftentimes people just rebel. And they start listening to guar and Slipknot. They're tired of doing whatever their parents wanted them to do. I think I think the, you know, the an Murray Rita Coolidge stuff probably as where that was then that played out. Right. You know, I whenever I hear and Murray. I know I just think it might own rocket. I just think of driving to the dump with my dad. Which is probably exactly what she was going for right? But, but with you know, with the standards there. Looks as good now did back then or whatever it is as always complain of a lot of these bad eighty songs, you can listen to them and go that would have been done between March of eighty three and December of eighty four like, you know, exactly when it's done, and you know, that it's bad. Yeah. Well, I think there's some truth to that. I mean in in. True, true, impure songwriting. It's it's John refree. It's like, you have the melody, and you have the lyrics, and that's why you know, you you take take us on like lonely goatherd. They can do it in the sound of music, and then Gwen Stafani can turn around and and ruin it. But people still love it. I know what she called me a racist. So really love loss with that. I'm sure she hates my guts to because we've taken some some hefty. Okay. So you. So we're sitting there we're doing love line. And she sitting there with the rest of no doubt.
