"Yeah no you're right. I was gonna ask you about like do you. Surf around dudes like you'll sir dudes. Yeah i mean what what is like seventy or like i don't know I will go now. I've gotten over like okay. Hey i'm gonna suck like they can tell immediately the way you're paddling in and out of stuff. They they know whether or not am i terrible. No mean i can get up most of the day. It just doesn't go as well as i thought i. You know i gotta stop watching videos of dudes tear it up. Because i apparently that isn't going to happen. I don't know that was gonna the plan. But that's all right. I still when it's when it's a good day you're like all right. That's cool but i should be going way more often. But i can tell exactly what happens is a get up. I prep a tape. And then i wanna list and then i get back and it's a the the wind is the wrong way and it's all chopping the afternoon and you're like out and i should be out there. Six seventy m you know three mornings a week. It better cleaner waves. But if it's really really crowded beginning i'd go. I don't wanna go out there. Because i suck now. I'll just find a different part of break. Which maybe isn't as nice but i'm just not going enough. I'm just not going enough. And the reason i wasn't going for good wasn't because i didn't wanna get the water. It was lord of a hang-up of like. Hey i'm terrible. And honestly who gives a shit lance from redondo doesn't think i'm any good like the farmer who who's lance don't even know if lance is real so i i'm all you know the reason i think the life advice thing works is not because i think i'm so smart and i'm so disciplined and i do all this stuff it's probably because i fucked up most stuff so that's always kind of the point of this And so hopefully that helps a little surreal. You got anything to add there you. You'd like to do so. I could see you want to get like a mandolin. Go on but you think it's too late for you know not a mandolin but i definitely fallen victim of the. Oh what are people thinking about me want doing this. I'm not going to do it. Which sucks because like for example like. I was planes to pick up soccer. I didn't grow up. Playing soccer is zero. I touch. I have no skill is just kind of bring the energy and sometimes i'm not even great shape and there'll be times when like i do. I wanna run out there and like embarrassed myself in front gaza pointing college or whatever. They're going to be judged me and you know what they never do. They never judged you play hard. It's totally fine. And at the end of the day. When i come home. I'm super happy. That i actually did it. I gotta work out in. I was exercising. I was outside. i was doing something i like. I met some new dudes so you can get in your own head way too much about this stuff and we often think that people are constantly judging us would. Sometimes they are. And honestly if you're talking about lance redondo who cares about lance as you said but if you're having a good time and you're enjoying this in your life is being fulfilled because it then just do it man. You're going to be happy afterwards. That's why i don't golf goffin's a whole different story because actually golfers can be very judgy. Especially you're on. The i t in a bunch of dudes watching you. I've seen it so much on. Tv like people waiting for people to golf and finish their shit. That like i would be terrified. Or i would just totally cheat like all right. I can't have these guys weighed on me. So we'll just add a stroke here or something. I don't know here's what you gotta do that with golf. You gotta go with guys. That aren't great like you know because if you're if you're golfing as a new golfer with a scratch golfer is going to be awkward the entire time because that's got he's gonna be hitting great shots you're going to be lacking behind you're going to feel self conscious about you kind of have to go with other guys that suck yeah. I'm petrified and i don't know any guys that sucks so i think just being the state forever young. I'll tell you right now like the gulf thing you could you could also just golf with people. That aren't assholes you golf with your friends and yes. If there's somebody's never golfed foreign three guys out there have been swinging it for twenty plus years. You're not their first choice. But if they're your friends than they understand. I remember the second time i ever went. And i went with the guy that owned the bar that i was managing and i was like twenty one. Maybe you know. I think it was like summer after everybody graduates gone so i was still up there and i went to like a local course. Wasn't that great of a course in there was a bunch of light guys that were like local vermonter types. You know late twenties early thirties. Which you know. At the time they feel like they're eighty when you're just out of college and you know hit an iron shot and i completely topped. it missed. It was like straight up embarrassing and they all sat there and laughed at me. And i looked at him. And i'm like you haven't seen your dick in a fucking month like hey you guys can all like take it easy. I was pissed and then the guy that owned the place. Who's kind of a bad ass was was like. Hey it's the second time golfing ever guys like. Are you guys serious with this shit right now and i was in the thing is like hey just just keep going. I mean that's kind of one of the bigger lessons in life like it. Sucks that any of this stuff happens. You know what i mean like. Just think how much happy you it'd be really to try this thing out. Be terrible at for won't be judged not having about it and then i'm going to go ahead and do.

"Crime in our crime of all the interruption of phenomenal music. Guilty as charged, but I'm telling you right now you are going to love every moment. That you spend with beat Lily and Dennis Mute joins us today. And Dennis, I want to thank you for taking time out for us this morning and Aloha to you. Aloha Friday to you, Rick. Thank you so much for having me on your show, man. It is a pleasure. Welcome back to the blue note. And for folks who haven't had the chance to meet you yet. We'd love to get to know you. Dennis, Tell us a bit about yourself. Originally, you hail from where? Originally I hailed from Redondo Beach, California and been in Hawaii now about 25 years. Gotcha. Gotcha! Where did your love For the Beatles. How did that begin? That is Well, that's a good question, Rick. I was a late bloomer. I was probably 2021 years old and a musician friend of mine really new and a lot about the Beatles and, uh, Told me all these great stories about them, get them getting started at the Cavern Club and how you know they had you know their performances and then Germany over several years, and, you know, basically, really, really took a long time to get them to where they were an overnight success that took about seven years. So anyways, I was really intrigued by these stories. And then I thought, Well, let me just go out and get a couple of records that did that time and And as the needle was going to cost The vinyl. I realized every single fung I was familiar with, and I really loved those fines. And I just had no idea that all of these great funds were from the same band, The Beatles, and that's what I find a lot of people. Now, even as adults when they come and see us play. Maybe they were dragged there by a friend. Or a family member, and likewise, they don't realize that all these great songs are from the Beatles. And so when they hear us perform, they're like, Wow, I didn't realize those Robbie Oh, funds. I love you guys, but I love the people, so it's really cool. You know, I I read an article that mutual friend John Berger had authored and he was spot on about the fact you have this mad, passionate dedication. To the precision of performing, but the fact that it's four strings or three plus strings on the hook to combine this wondrous music. With a ukulele. One won an incredible idea. But you and your band mates had performed as a tribute band, traditionally a tribute band. How that transition was made to local lately, though. Well, that's a great question and way out. We did have the full gear instead of before with the electric guitars and I have the Ringo guy I played the full drum set, and even then we were all about trying to perform. The music is close to the record as possible. And then, um, you know, we didn't take ourselves too seriously. We just played, you know some parties and private gigs here and there. But, um, no. Let who's our Paul McCartney guy. He and I founded the band about, um, 11 years ago. And he took up the ukulele for the first time after living in Hawaii about 30 years. Hey, and Sonny are John Lennon guy actually. Group in the Philippines. But events like both of them have been here in Hawaii a long time and so but strangely, no, let's just pick up the ukulele and he is just one of those incredibly incredible musicians that can pick up an instrument and master it in no time. And then he brought the idea to us like a what if we were to transition and We recognize that nobody else was doing beetles on ukulele, and we thought being from Hawaii that would make perfect sense because it would be kind of Shameful If there was some band in Czechoslovakia. Yes, they took up the Opal Elise and was the Beatles tribute band there, Which would be fine, But it just seems like it should be from Hawaii. Right? Perfect. Perfect, phenomenal. Dennis Smith joins us. Beat Lily is performing a week from tonight. Returning to the blue Note on by the way, I have a mad, passionate love affair with the blue Note. I love everyone there. I think they've done tremendous strides and returning entertainment back one of the very first to do so. How's your experience with blue note? Yeah, You know, it's um It's been a wonderful relationship with them. They treat us so well and we are so honored and grateful to be asked to return again and again. I think this is gonna be our 10th or 12th. I'm playing their little last couple of years, So they made this a wonderful venue and they have definitely taken all the precautions in this Coben environment. The great news is we were. We were almost sold out for this next Friday. The six o'clock show they just added a lot more seats and table so they're still Tickets available if you can get on it quickly, and so they're continuing to expand their seating capacity in a real safe way. And I think when people go there, they will definitely see that And yet you're still able T O appreciate and enjoy the light music and the atmosphere like like, ever before. Well, it is, as you can hear, just from Brief selection and we'll play more leading up to next week. Be sure Log on the blue Note hawaii dot com and you'll be able to order your tickets and everything online..

Without even asking me to recognize my voice totally words from my question from last week. That may mean that you've been calling too often, but OK, She's good at that, though, isn't she? Yes, you breathe. My question is that uh, every last week about PFC changes the regulation read the kinship charged you? Yes, providers have known equipment. That's right. Number all your satellite company and ask him Did they put me on hold for, like $45, man that I have to talkto. See your resolution, all or whatever. And he's Oh, no, no, not the cheese the term but changed the wording. Undercharged me $7 a month for using my own equipment. That's illegal. Do you think there are any recourse to called the FCC? Yeah. It's illegal. They're not supposed to charge you for using your own equipment. I think the law was pretty darn specific. How did they? What little What little weaselly thing that they do this to make them think they could do this? After a legal words weasel words on the prior bill. I hold them up. I could see it and they said, Yeah, we charge you for you. The use of your equipment. Then the war came out. No, no, no, It's not these here equipments for something else at the service of Service field. Yeah, I would you know, or go to the local State Utilities Commission. I would definitely pursue it. I'm getting a lot of rebel calls. Oh, man. All of a sudden. I don't know what happened January 1st, but I'm getting so money. Spammy texts. It's driving me nuts. Um The Big Four are in theory, supporting this new stir and shaken protocol, and that's supposedly going to reduce the number of spam calls because It requires his call. Be authenticated by the originating cell phone company and gives you the option If it's not To turn it down. And, of course, most spammers will not authenticate their phone calls. They'll try to use weird Third party services, but I don't know. Maybe the FCC has a registry. Of carriers that support spam blocking, or are you, uh, Street Park and they use? Uh, no, they bark. They buy servers from 18 tea or whatever. Which may have that service. Yeah, but often when you're using an in Vienna, which is what that is a mobile virtual that work office. Samsung uses service called Hyah to T O Do Smart calls, Toe block unwanted calls there. This this, you know, the CFC sees the Is the regulatory agency that's involved here and they have been trying To eliminate this problem because it is a huge problem, right? At 800 to 2 to K A B C 1 800 to 2 to 5 to 2 to let's begin with John in Redondo Beach, John, You're on K ABC welcome. Hello. Hi there. Yeah. I got a wooden cross winds. There's going to be all kind of rioting going on in all the cities. I won. I was wondering, what do you think about Having the high pressure water hose. Gun nozzles on trucks or something. To try to quash the riding. Well, I think that with lockdowns in particular the temperature in the room is high. And we've seen riots for any number of reasons. We saw riots after what happened to George Floyd in Minneapolis. We've seen riots after the Lakers win the world championship after the Dodgers win. We see rights for this. We see rights for that. People are going to riot either they're gonna riot because Trump won the election and they're angry or Joe Biden wins the election and their celebratory people are going to do what they're going to Dio. And if you're a mayor of a city where there is rioting that's going on and your police department can't handle it. The president has said. Time and time again. All you have to do is call and I'll send the National Guard in to help out and put it down. What we've seen is we've seen reluctant mayor's reluctant police chiefs, reluctant city councils who don't want to ask for help, and as soon as they tell their population, they're not going to ask for help. What happens is what happened on Melrose in Los Angeles. What happened in Beverly Hills? What happen in Santa Monica where people know they can get away with just about anything, and they do it. Thankfully for the world, I'm willing to sacrifice Portland. It's 12 53. The Dodgers are World.

Ah, Amy King, you love food. You're moody. And you're a very social person. You have great social idea of great friends. You're always talking about hanging out getting together. Thiss whole time. You know? How do you deal with this when When you're in that mode of wanting to go out one sport restaurants. We were just talking about this yesterday because I had a friend came over. We went for a long walk because you, Khun go for a walk outside, socially distance, all that stuff and sure we decided to go on another walk tomorrow Sunday morning when they'd be great, I said, and then let's go toe. Aah! Just like we would normally go out to brunch or something. And we were We talked about it, and we thought Okay, There's an outside place in my neighborhood. But do we want to do that? Do you want to sit there with your mask on and pull your mask down to take a bite and put your mask back on? You know what are the current rules and stuff and we just kind of went I don't think it's worth it right now yet becomes complicated. You know? My wife asked me, she said, You know, why are you missing going on? I said, Well, yeah, course. Yeah. I'm missing everything. But you're going in. Yeah, we order in most certainly, but it's also a different experience, and I like to see I like to see how it's all being put together. I'd like to see The ambience of the location and and see that the the line cooks and the chef busting their humps. I like see the whole process of it, and I like the presentation. I love it. When they bring the food that beautiful food to your table. It's a little bit different when it comes in. Styrofoam container, even if faced justice and you know, I'm enjoying. I talked at the beginning that show about these family meals they're doing. Ah! It's so Kalo in in Santa Monica with Susan Feniger and those things gorgeous and come, you know, even if they're coming in those aluminum foil like Like buffet kind of Trey's still they They're all lined up in there plated beautifully in there, and I see things like that. I go. OK, I You know, I want to support these places. And you could have some tonight have some tomorrow. And things like that, But I get that there's there's something about the experience that makes part of the magic and I'm ready. To go out. I have to be responsible for my little one and my wife and also my mother on DH Tracy's family, So we're all looking at this differently for people that we love and want to protect. Man. What I just wonder what the future is going to be, because even if they're opened, even if the government says, Okay, open everything up or people ready, and are they ready for the exact same experience or they're going to want something different? And I think that might be the case, even though we grow forgetful very easily. You remember Amy? Right after 9 11 It was like, you know, we're all on board. Whatever you need to do extra security measures, and three months later, it's like I go to take off my shoes. What the hell? I got to take my laptop out of the bag. And Gino him at all. No, no. I I never met him. I wish I had. It seems like you know, before they encountered they're hard times. There were really a really neat woman are really neat guy. A lot of these guys particularly football players kind of drop off the map or can drop off the map after their careers. And you know, we remember the highlights the guys on the field live in the big hits. And we forget about this other side of these families in cases, like Kevin Allison's that have to deal with the mess afterward. And what happens when a thirty one year old who should be in the prime of his life is dealing with just horrific mental illness to this thrown everything off the rails here like a tattoo, the identity with that tattoo on one of his arms. It said be the best. And that everybody I talked to really. Epitomized his approach, you know, again, even if he wasn't the fastest guy or something like that. He was going to study the most film he was going to go back for an extra workout session in the weight room after everybody left. He was going to work his tail off to be the best. But what happened after the NFL? Well, so he'd been drafted by the San Diego Chargers back in the two thousand nine draft. I believe played a bunch of games for them. Things seem to be going. Okay. He hurt one of his knees again. And that'd been a problem at USC. We had some injuries and his brother Chris told me that he didn't want the team to know about it. And we all know that is, you know, guys want to keep their injuries on the down low, especially young guys trying to make a career for themselves. And Chris said that's where he ended up getting some vicodin on the street that never prescription for it just to help deal with the injury. And then he got busted for that by the cops during a routine traffic stop. So that was kind of the first maybe Stein that everything wasn't okay. He was cut by the chargers. Cut by the Seahawks. Ended up with an arena league team in Spokane Washington pretty big fall for a guy who was planning USC if you fast for the summer at twenty twelve he tries to let his bed on fire at the place. He's staying in Spokane and he says he's God he's Jesus that Jesus will protect everybody from the fire because that is Jesus refused to come out of this room for a while. Eventually he jumped out at third storey window, and thankfully, nobody was hurt. He was charged with federal counts of arson and was eventually able to get some professional help and be institutionalized. And he was diagnosed as bipolar schizophrenic at that point in time, and it really caught his family off guard. They didn't see this coming. But I don't think most families would say, oh, yeah.
