"Happened. Surviving the violence is the female victim's mother who had bolted out of the house to a neighbor's to call 9-1-1. Investigators say the alleged shooter is a trucker from Texas. He had interacted with the female victim via her podcast, alarming her to the point she had asked for a protection order against him. Police had not yet issued that order at the time of the shooting. It's unknown how the suspect died, possibly a self inflicted wound in Redmond corwin hake, northwest, news radio, and in pierce county, one man is dead after a shooting on Thursday, come on fours reports. Blake would police tell us he died at the hospital. It all started in the afternoon when he was randomly shot by the suspect. The big question, what led to the shooting. They both entered the parking lot from two opposite directions. Appeared to have absolutely no relation to each other whatsoever. There is no confrontation between them. We're being told after the victim was shot, he fell to the ground and the suspect kept firing. I would say this one is a little out of the norm where it's just a random act where these two gentlemen seem to meet in a parking lot for a totally unknown reason and one of them ends up shot and killed. Another shopper we spoke with comes your often with her family. She said the incident is disturbing and has seen a jump in violent crime in the area. I mean, that's pretty typical around here, unfortunately. I've seen a lot of it. It's a it's hard to live by, for sure. Now, police also tell us no one in the area was harmed. "About these things. So maybe I have to take some precautions then. People tweeting overnight it appeared that the S.W.A.T. team was trying to contact the suspect. And Redmond police say that they were able to take the suspect into custody around one in the morning, no word on the victim's condition yet. Many businesses in Seattle are beefing up their safety strategies and hiring private security guards, Joel Moreno reports, that's happening because of the shortage of Seattle police officers combined with the climbing crime rate. Security guards can provide that extra support that supplements the work assigned to police and can help understaff departments focus their resources on violent crimes. Still, Seattle police tally 253 burglary reports just in January and nearly 3400 for all of last year. Tacoma saw 2400 burglaries last year up more than 7% over 2021. Crime is way up. That's not that many police officers that we're there to help them. And they're there to help us. And I think we can do it better if we all work together for another security company told me that Seattle's apparent passage of these social housing and initiative. Well, that could bring even more work to the industry as those complexes look for ways to safeguard public safety. Outreach efforts at the ship canal homeless camp in Seattle are not going as well as nearby parents like Eli hozier would have hoped. Michelle Esteban explains. It's all spelled out in this updated letter to parents from wash dot. It's their property, but they are working together with regional partners, including Casey RHA, the King County regional homelessness authority, responsible for outreach. The language primarily is about how they're going to help with fire extinguishers or things that would sanitation, things that would help them. But it's not really addressing the public safety. We just don't see the action. We don't get the firm dates. He says that doesn't help his ten year old son, Ben, or any of the students at John Stanford international school less than 400 feet from the camp. I go home after dropping my son off and I literally am just thinking constantly. Oh my gosh, it's something could happen. Cuomo has continuously pressed Casey RHA to show their work. They confirmed out of about 20 campers so far only one has agreed to accept shelter. Let's discuss some options. We'll help. We want to help solve this. By Michelle Esteban, come on is. Some old trees are coming down in Lewis county. The department of natural resources auctioned off the land for more than $2.8 million last month. It's a more than 100 acre site known as the McCann and timber sale, about two thirds of the proceeds will go to the capitol building trust, and that pays for capital projects on the campus in Olympia. The rest will be divvied up between public education programs and Lewis county. According to the Seattle times, this timber sale in southwest Washington is a common one, but it's also an example of a state forest that some conservationists were hoping to preserve. Alaska state lawmaker David eastman has been again censured. It's his second time. It's because this week the wasilla Republican outraged many with the following comments about abuse that ends with the death of a child. It's actually a cost savings because that child is not going to need any of those government services that they might otherwise be entitled to receive and need based on growing up in this type of environment. Yeah, he said dead kids save money. On Wednesday, the Alaska House of Representatives voted 35 to one to censure him eastman himself being the only no vote. He also was disciplined in 2017 for saying that women get pregnant in order to get a free trip to the city. Eastman has not commented on this latest censure. It's two ten. "That's been generated in the United States, could sit on a American football field. At about probably less than ten yards deep. I really, it's not, it's not at the end of the day that much material. Because it is so energy dense in terms of the amount of power that you get out of it relative to the amount of, say, coal or natural gas that's got to be burned. And I don't know those statistics off the top of my head, but if you go to any eyes website any I dot org, you can find comparisons between how much power comes out of one pellet of uranium versus how many barrels of oil versus things like that. Yeah, he did say the waste from coal is a lot higher. You have, you have a lot of waste that comes out, yes. And you mentioned earlier that you worked on casket. I worked on dry cast storage systems, so basically the containers that we put the used. We actually call it U.S. fuel instead of spending fuel because we're going to be able to be reusing it. The containers that we put the used fuel in to sit on site after they come out of the spent fuel pool. So that's the kind of thing that would become part of dealing with waste ongoing. Yeah, so basically on the back end of the fuel cycle right now, you operate the reactor when you shut down and you go into a refueling. You pour fuel assemblies out, the ones that you're going to discharge. You pull them out, you put them into a spent fuel pool. They sit there for maybe 5 years, then they come out of the spent fuel pool and they go into a dry cask storage system. So what is a dry cast storage system? It is basically. Yeah, actually, you can pull one up pretty easily there. It's basically a steel cylinder inside of it. There's going to be a what we call a basket. That's actually the same as what's in the spent fuel pool. So think of an egg crate where you have a structure and you put the eggs in. This is going to be a metal structure, and you're going to put the fuel assemblies in it. Yep, those are some good images of quite a few different kinds. The canister goes then inside of what we call an over pack. So the over pack can be steel, concrete, or a mix of steel and concrete, concrete is cheap and easy and a great radiation shield. And then it just sits there. It's passively safe.

"Into the water. And but all the reactors are happening in like above, heat and so your active fuel zone so a fuel assembly for a commercial light water reactor is about 14 feet long. 12 feet of that is what we call the active fuel zone. And in a reactor. So you'll put those fuel assemblies in water, so you have the fuel assemblies that go into the water into the reactor. And then within that 12 foot active fuel zone is where the reaction occurs. Okay, so the simple science of this is you're heating up rods. And that heats up a coolant and a huge upper equivalent. And that creates steam, powers a turbine. It doesn't sound like a complicated bit of kit, but when I look at a nuclear, it's huge. What's everything that's going into that? Well, you have a lot of safety systems and things like that. Is that what it is? And in the case of the water cooled reactors, they're under very high pressure. Because we have two versions of reactors in the United States, we call pressurized water reactors or boiling water reactors. In both cases, they are very high pressure. In the case of the pressurized water reactor, the water in the core never boils. So it just remains solid, but it's very hot. It's like if you had a pressure cooker on your stove or the one pot or something, where you keep everything under pressure and the water doesn't boil inside. It's the same concept except much higher pressure. In a boiling water reactor, we let the water boil a bit and produce a steam in the top portion of the reactor. However, it's still under high pressure. Now, for some of the new designs, like the one, we're working on liquid metal, we're operating at basically atmospheric pressure. I don't need to keep things at high pressure. I'm operating at atmospheric pressure. As a result, I don't need large pressure retaining systems. When I was looking into aircrafts, I believe this most aircraft have now like 7 redundancy systems

"And so not be relying upon the grid. You're seeing the Department of Defense thinking about that for military bases as well. So not being reliant upon the grid being self sustaining. And companies like ours with our 15 megawatt reactor could provide that power. And I guess someone like Tesla who have moved to Texas, we there was a big issue in Texas a year ago, was it? No, a couple years ago. You're talking about the winter storm. So I guess they'll be saying, well, we could derisk this for us. Is it cost effective as well? So our machine is going to be able to be cost effective relative to what's currently provided. So we also are approaching this from a unique perspective of a build own operate model. So we're going to build the reactors operate them and then sell power. That's a little bit different than the other companies. But at the end of the day, all of the companies nuclear companies are developing machines that will be cost effective. So you see if it was a Tesla, they wouldn't buy the reactor from they would buy the power output from the reactor. In our case, in your case, yes. In another case, they would probably buy could buy the power directly from somebody else. And they have another person that operates a reactor. Can you talk about how much one of these costs to construct? No, not really. It's hard for me to answer that question at the moment. I've got zero. I don't know if we talk about a 100 million, a billion, 10 billion. So for something like. Small reactors, micro reactors as they're called less than 50 megawatt electric. You're going to be looking in the hundreds of millions. We should get one, Denny. Something like something like the Vogel plants are in the billions. These are private nuclear reactors for private businesses. Does anything like this exist now? Everything just large scale reactors provided the grid. Right now in the United States, it's large scale reactors provide in the grid. You have a lot of research ranked or small reactors that are operating at universities and national laboratories. We do, of course, the military, the navy, has micro reactors that are powering its ships, aircraft carriers, and submarines. It's fascinating. It's a whole new business model.

"They plan to be operational in 2027, 2028, or by 2030. So your tend to look at about a decade from the time you say go. With us and have a site to the time you have a reactor up and running. And that's going to be reduced quite a bit. I mean, we're hoping we believe our reactor, again, and we're designing, by the way, I should have said this earlier. We're designing machines that are up to 15 megawatt electric, whereas the Vogel plants are like 1100 megawatt electric. So we're designing small machines. We believe we can build those in about a year. Okay, so just when you say when you've got go on the site, but I kind of want to understand the entire time scale. So say a city is considering a new reactor and they have to find a site. So it's almost just from the point of going, okay, we want to react is that is it then 15 years, or is it 12 years? No, it's so you're going to have to say you want to react, okay, then you have to find a site. That's probably not going to take too long to do. Because you'll have, you'll know what the infrastructure is, you'll look at things like transmission, distribution, stuff like that, how you're going to connect it up to the grid. So you find your site, then you'll have to prepare the license application that goes into NRC. So you pick a company that already has a design, you still have to prepare a license application to go into the NRC. That's probably a year year and a half. Then from there, you go on and put it in front of an art. So you're looking two to three years now, hopefully two years or less to get that done. Then you start construction, depending on the plant design, something like ours, you're looking at about a year, others you could be looking two to four years. So you can see how that time frame. Yeah. I see. Yeah.

Huge support from the government in, well, just in the last two years, there was a bipartisan that the infrastructure act, infrastructure Bill, and then the inflation reduction act that was just passed last year. So the inflation. Infrastructure Bill was a previous year. Both of those provided huge support for nuclear, as well as other renewable sources. Production tax credits and things like that. "Georgia, we're building completing, I should say, to reactors, vocal three and four. They're a Westinghouse AP 1000 plants. Fabulous plants. So currently AP 1000s are currently operating in China. Southern companies should be bringing online these two plants this year down there. But they are mega projects, huge projects, huge construction projects. And that's a challenge in the United States. So what you're seeing with small modular reactors, all advanced advanced reactor companies are looking at smaller machines that will be easier to construct, move as much of that fabrication as we can back into a factory setting. And then just ship stuff to the site and install it. Wow. Will it almost be the case that multiple locations could have almost identical reactors? They should, yes, they should. Yeah, in fact, the vocal three and four, so you're going to see down there in Georgia at the bogle plant. They have currently two reactors operate and then three or four, 100% identical. Wow, okay. So when you, I mean, you said earlier that you work for the trade association. I did previously, yes. Yeah. The green lobbyists have been very effective at scaring people off of nuclear energy. I mean, especially in Europe, Germany tried to shut down. I think their last three reactors they've had to keep them going. Where do you think the nuclear industry itself has failed in countering their arguments? Because from everyone I spoken to, actually, the green lobbyists should probably be pro nuclear because nuclear is the best opportunity we have to decarbonize. You're seeing a lot right now. Over the last few years, not few anymore. Last 5 to ten years. A big shift. With climate change and carbon reduction being the key and challenge. You're seeing a lot of support for nuclear now, especially in the United States with a number of the other organizations out there. So I think the momentum behind nuclear is growing more and more with climate change. So I think we're in a very good path moving forward to build out a lot more nuclear to do provide that zero carbon emitting energy 24/7 30 65. This show is brought to you by ledger. "Yeah, so for us, you were just talking about reusing of commercial fuel. So one of the things we are planning to do is recycling. So we're planning to take some of that spent fuel coming out of the existing fleet. And then recycle it and use it as feedstock, fuel for our reactors. And then eventually we'll also recycle the fuel coming out of our reactors. So we have that capability with a. As I said, we have a fast reactor, so that has the capability to reuse that fuel in an efficient way. Does that change the volume of the nuclear waste or just the makeup of it? A little bit of both. So it changes the makeup of it in the sense that what you end up disposing of now are just what we call fission products. So right now, when spent fuel comes out of a reactor, it has in it. Uranium, plutonium, actinides, which are higher level elements that has the fission products. When we do the recycling, we're going to keep the major actinides and the transuranics together. Along with the uranium and the plutonium and so what will be left is fission products. So it does change the makeup of it a bit. And it does reduce the amount of waste. Right. Okay. So going back to the current fleet. A lot was made of in California that I think is Gavin Newsom wanted to shut down like their last reactor, Diablo Kenya. Yeah, and they haven't. That's correct. So was the reason to close it down, not so much that it was age, or was that more of a political reason? And you would say this what you say this reactor is absolutely fine to carry on for another 20 years. Yeah, the fact that it is, for sure. They're planning to keep an operational for at least another 5 years beyond the lifetime.

I've been going down this energy rabbit hole. Ever since I really interviewed Alex Epstein, trying to understand how the energy set to work, how grids work, how energy generation works. You know I've learned a lot about it. And I would say with these two conversations, the one wherever and the one with Anthony Jared, I've definitely had my think and evolve. So it's very cool. I do want to get somebody on to talk about fusion at some point as well. Danny is working hard on finding that person. "Is very, very good and very necessary for your body. I recommend salting foods up to your taste, right? You don't have to, you don't have to go above and beyond and over salt things, but salt things up to your taste, also you can get good salts from some natural things like celery, dark green leafy vegetables, see vegetables like dulce and kelp and different things like that. While caught fish grass fed meat, pasture raised eggs, all really good natural sources of sodium as well. One thing that I do recommend is typical table salt. I'm not a fan of that. There's a lot of different toxins in them. Most sea salts actually have, in fact, there was a study that showed that 90% of the sea salts on the market actually are contaminated with microplastics. And that's because we have so much plastic in our ocean and our waterways. And so many of them are contaminated. So I like to get the kind of salt that my family and I use is salt that comes from deep in the earth. It's volcanic salts. There's Himalayan pink salt, for example, which is great. And my favorite is Redmond's real salt comes from Utah, deep in the ground. This is not contaminated with these microplastics, and it works really, really good. Tons and tons, 84 trace minerals here. And it works fantastic. So I just gently salt my foods to taste, to flavor, using this Redmond's real salt from time to time. If I'm feeling like I have a little bit like I just don't have enough energy or if I have brain fog, really all I'll do is take like a tiny, tiny bit of salt on my finger, put it on my tongue. Sometimes I'll drink water with it. But even if you just put it on your tongue, you'll notice, wow, your energy picks up. And that's because again, these electrolytes, like sodium, which is the main electrolyte, so critical for energy production, but there's also 84 trace minerals in there. That really helps support your body as a whole. So is salt good or bad? Really depends on your insulin sensitivity, but salt is actually very good if your body is healthy and your insulin sensitive. If you're not insulin sensitive, do what it takes to get insulin sensitive today. So you can really thrive. So hopefully you guys enjoyed today's video. "The time of the halloween party in two thousand eight. Jay was in his thirties successful programmer. He lived in the seattle area but he kept in touch with a lot of friends. Back home including dr. Jim naga whose daughter had moved down the road from j to an apartment complex in redmond very beautiful girl betty brainy and all. She's very kidding. I noticed that you speak about her in the present tense. Yes yeah three days after the costume party at the valley view jay woke up. Walk downstairs checked his phone. He saw a bunch of miss calls from arpan his dad. He called dr genego back immediately and he could hear his friend was in a bad place. There was no sign of arben banana. She wasn't answering her phone. Her friends sri aletha couldn't get in touch with her either. J. hung up and tried arpanet himself. Nothing like calling back and saying that it's going to iceman and what are you going to do. you said. Can you go and check on her. Jade bandarban has pleased once before but all he remembered was that you had to walk up a set of stairs to the top floor to be honest. I don't even know the unit number. So that's why i took the steps then. I was knocking on the door and map for almost like thirty forty seconds. No one was there. Then i read then again not to play. That's what i saw that. I don't even know who he is. The guy j saw coming towards him was in his mid twenties. The goatee and sideburns. Average build and height was cameron johnson. Arpan is next door neighbor. And i asked him dino this he said yeah i know so. Ask him which lives by. Then mehan cameron. We both standing just in front of that apartment. J. push gently on the door and a bolt fell off. "redmond" Discussed on Joe Exotic: Tiger King

"A letter from a man awaiting trial for halloween night murder. A murder he swore he hadn't committed the evidence against him was flawed. He said curious. I agree to look into his story and quickly realized this case was different than any other ever reported on my new true crime. Podcast suspect starts back in october of two thousand eight when the residents of a redmond apartment complex were throwing a big halloween party dozens of people in costume mingling drinking and dancing but after the party started to quiet down one of the host was murdered in her apartment. The police spent weeks piecing together. The night with hazy recollections and dozens of party photos eventually they had suspect. His story kept changing his. Dna was at the crime scene when he finally came in for questioning. The detectives felt like they were breath away from confession. But that didn't happen and so the police decided to focus their attention on another man. A man with a criminal record who's dna was also found at the crime scene and a man who just happened to be. The only black person at the party suspect starts out as a compelling whodunit and then becomes a story about cutting edge forensic science and mislead justice about race and policing and ultimately the kinds of weighty decisions cops and prosecutors make every day decisions that once made change lives forever and are almost impossible to reverse about to play you a brief preview of suspect. But while you're listening make sure to follow suspect on apple podcasts. Amazon music or he can bench all nine episodes ad free by subscribing to.

How to Leverage the Power of a Super Niche

"Hi. I'm michael redmond today. I wanna to you about the power of building. Businesses in niche or super niche industries. Before we make any assumptions let's define. What a niche is. Have you ever seen a cubbyhole in an old house that held flowers or an old style phone on a small shelf cut into a wall. Turns out that's when it really is by definition the niches in the wall. But it's a small part of the wall with its own unique function. We use this concept in business to describe a small segment of business or a small market. A super niche is an even smaller sliver of that market with a unique small group of people with a specific need example. Can you remember a time when someone told you what they do. Or they serve in their business and your response was wow. I didn't even know that was a thing that an itch in business niches are small and unique. So it's counterintuitive that they exist and that they're extremely profitable they hide on us. They're small but there's so much opportunity. I wanna teach you today. Why niches so powerful and how to identify a niche or a super niche. So let's dive in first of all the reason niches are so valuable and stand out. Is that if you find a niche. It can be easier to get into the market. There are less competitive in an itch. There's more opportunity to grow your company at a faster rate in each and you can quickly become the big fish in a small pond. In a niche business. You actually get to create a company that stands out and becomes well known within that niche. You can own niche faster. Bottom line is that niches create more opportunities in inches even lead to other niches when you start to learn how to identify them and take advantage of them it all builds upon itself.

Microsoft Exploring $10B Acquisition of Gamer Chat App Discord

"I sources began to report late yesterday. That discord was exploring a sale of itself seeking evaluation of ten billion dollars or so then bloomberg reported that it was microsoft was in advanced stages of negotiations to maybe by discord for about that exact ten billion dollar target range but also that discord is maybe more likely to just go public and test the waters itself quoting bloomberg. Actually you'll note there tempering. Their initial reporting here a bit quote discord has been talking to potential buyers and software. Giant microsoft is in the running but no deal is imminent said the people who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private discord is more likely to go public than sell itself. One person said representatives for microsoft and discord declined to comment venturebeat reported earlier on monday. That discord was engaged in sales tax microsoft. Which last year sought to buy social media app tiktok and held talks to acquire. Pinterest has been shopping for assets that would provide access to thriving communities of users. According to people familiar with the company's thinking microsoft's xbox business has also been expanding the suite of subscription perks. It provides as part of its game pass offering microsoft shares. Were up about one point. Two percent in the first minutes of trading tuesday quote microsoft possibly acquiring discord makes a lot of sense as it continues to reshape. Its gaming business. More towards software and services said bloomberg intelligence analyst. Matthew kanter men. There's a big opportunity to bundle discord premium nitro into the game. Pass service to drive more. Subscriptions from last reported number of eighteen million and quote after microsoft's recent seven and a half billion dollar purchase of xeni. Max media owner of the elder scrolls and doom publisher bethesda software and acquisition of discord with signal the redmond washington-based software giants willingness to keep investing in its video game unit and quote. Yeah integrating discord deeply into xbox stuff does make a ton of sense. Although i think they could make an exclusive wall off discord as something that you can only get if you do x. box but also the larger narrative here is that microsoft keeps trying to acquire social networks. Tick tock pinterest. And i keep hearing that one of the motivations for that is to get them all on a juror is that they've invested so heavily to build out this cloud infrastructure that they need big projects to justify their existence. That was always what i heard about google getting into cloud gaming but can this be true. Can someone smarter than me. Explain the economics behind that theory but also discord apparently runs on top of google cloud. So i guess there is value in kicking one leg of the stool out from under your rival right. Maybe google cloud is so far behind and week that its rivals. Maybe think they can strangle it in the crib

Woman sells crochet Bernie doll for over $20,000, donates to charity

"You've seen all of the Bernie Sanders means from Inauguration Day. A famous photo now of the Vermont senator at the inauguration shows up seemingly everywhere these days, and it raises thousands for charity, too. Thanks to a local woman. Compost, Brian Calvert explains. The photo shows a bundled up former presidential candidate sporting a pair of knitted brown tan and white mittens. The picture is definitely made the rounds and it also motivated Toby King to get out her crow. Shea Needles mind blowing because I knew Burning was training because of that picture, and I already had a Bernie pattern in a burning doll. So I just went and got that and I modified in Super quick plan. She wanted to do her own version of the Bernie in the photo. By way of crew. Shay and from beginning to start didn't get up and it was seven hours. But that's on top of the hours and hours of actually designing that that I did like a year ago, when it was all said and done. The Redmond woman had a doll, a perfect likeness of the now infamous photo. She even re created a tiny version of those mittens, the mittens, mittens or not that hard, it's just the color changing a special stitch. Now what to do with a tiny crew shade. Bernie Sanders doll. Toby King immediately thought of doing something good with it. After all, Bernie himself was already cashing in on the popular pose much of sweatshirts. And donated two meals on wheels. Vermont and I said that that is perfect. That is what I want to do. She decided to sell it on eBay and give the proceeds to meals on Wheels America, she tells K II TV. That's when things got really interesting for 99 cents, And then a few minutes later. I want to take the screens. I was like, Wow, it's five bucks. The auction ended earlier this week and the winning bid $20,300 Toby King of Redmond had no idea that good she could do And now she wants everyone to have a crow shade. Bernie. She's not planning on making more. But she is putting the pattern for the doll in her Etsy store named Toby Time. Crow Shea. I'm so so just so happy that everybody is making their own little Bernie and planes and Bernie's out there and just it just makes everybody so happy. Brian Calvert Homo news. Come on his time 1
