"red wings" Discussed on Daily Detroit
"Nineteenth twenty twenty one. i'm jair stays. Today's show has a little bit of detroit city of see a little bit of lions. But the big thing. We're doing a season preview. For the detroit red wings. Joining us is ak bennett to talk about it. You know what. Let's just get started joining me. In the north and studio of course fletcher sharp to my left. How are you sir. I'm here so that's always good. And across the table. From me ak bennett. How are you. Welcome to daily detroit. First time thanks for having me doing great. We'll get started here. I with detroit. City of c two one victory over nineteen thousand four san diego quite the match a little bit closer than i thought it was going to be fletcher. I don't know what it is about. Detroit city of see what they play against bad teams safer new amsterdam but they just kind of like all right. Well i guess we don't have to try as hard and that's kind of what happened They got up one nothing Their strongest point of their team is their defense and san diego. Nineteen four literally just came right after defense. Put in a nice cross between stephen. Carol and maddy lewis. Get a header into the net. Make it one to one. Tried to come back. Get a second gold. Make it two to one. Just i don't know like even the san diego Announcers were like their offense has been kind of stagnant the last few games. And that's kind of a worry thing. Seeing as it's later in the season you're going into the playoffs can only be firing on all cylinders. The nice thing about it is for detroit. Tizi least is a magic number is seven if they take seven or eight more points They win outright and their nets. It doesn't matter what what's going on next so if they win the next four to six games. They're good. So i guess you keep winning unit that you're not going goal so yeah i mean that lack of production does concern me because we are heading towards what i can only describe as the possibility of a frigid playoff. I mean look soccer playoffs in december. Like is this hockey. Like i personally think this is one of my favorite words banana pants. That's what i was complaining about. It in the season started people. I know people are like you just talking. Whatever i'm like. We're gonna be covering into november late november in michigan in chicago like this. What people really want because like okay. Because he's probably going to win like we're gonna have the finals in the playoffs in hamtramck and people are like will we'll see and unlike are we will see like i'm gonna. I'm telling you going to be in december because that last game isn't until the november twentieth. I don't know man. I i know that it's all seasons or whatever but this doesn't seem like the most fun experience. No i'm sure the players who are in the mid west will think like this kind of stinks. But whatever i'm sure the teams from california will be like this is terrible and i wish we'd not qualified for the playoffs because i do not wanna complain this weather. But i mean they're professionals They're paid to do it Some of them probably done in the past. So we'll see what's going to happen but it's definitely gonna be a home advantage for the midwestern teens. You're used to the weather for sure. I had a dream last night. That i took a header off the face in the middle of winter and it just hurt for like thirty minutes. It hurts when it's not winter. So okay detroit lions. We don't normally cover this because it's always the same old lions. It's always the same thing but they're still on the path to your own seventeen. Yeah normally wouldn't even wanna talk about it..

"Coast. Insen yada san philipe to fifty had a heart attack in the middle of the race again. He was the director writer and producer of the series cops that debuted in march of eighty nine and ran for thirty two seasons. It was not renewed last year about paramount. Because george floyd died of a fenton all overdose and somehow we needed to destabilize america by defunding the cops and convincing. Everyone cops are bad. People so monuments were built to george. Floyd monuments were built to be torn down but they are really really looking for the four people who spray painted the george floyd monument. I thought what we learned from the last year is that monuments were there for the amusement of people who wanted to deface them. Tear them down. Rip them off smash them. Oh i guess not. When it's george floyd only if. It's abraham lincoln when cops was purchased by fox that was a startup network in. It's the show that really launched them. The simpsons would take them to a different level but the reason they went with that show is because the production costs were so low you're mining for wonderful entertainment by throwing a camera on your shoulder and following cops through the hood. There is endless entertainment. You've always got some dude with his shirt off. You've always got some guy doing a drug deal us. You always have to people out in the street fighting you just roll up on him and film it compelling stuff you basically just showing us. What's going on across town. You're just showing democrats in their nash. Natural habitat that's just it. It's like a zoo. Show you just showing democrats and their national in their natural habitat. Criminals engaged in crime doesn't matter what skin color are white guys. Black guys hispanic guys are always going to have their shirt off. They're always going to have scratch marks for some woman just scratched him up. There was going to be proclaiming their innocence. The cop is being way more restrained than normal and way more patient. Okay sir well. We're we're just curious why you running across the street at a high rate of speed win. We hadn't turned on our lights or anything. Sir i'll just i'll just strategy how it was growls. I was gonna go get a big mac. I'm skeptical of the answer. You have given to my interrogatory because the cops always use like the kind of law school style. Words in the shows since we're on the theme of the great boxers of the eighties. It was on this day in nineteen ninety-seven not his finest moment when mike tyson chump on evanger holyfield's ear hears about keep your eye on mike. Mike as just see you can see you can see. Only real slow humphry might get you just raises. It invites him. Yeah what's the commercial. They had this last year. We're tyson breezes ear back that was quality right. There that was quality was on this day on in seventeen seventy eight when mary hays mccauley carried water to the soldiers in the battle of monmouth. It was here that she would earn the nickname. Molly pitcher on this day in eighteen. Forty six adolph sax patented a musical instrument that he had invented a few years earlier. Can you guess what it was called on this day in eighteen eighty. Four congress declared labor day to be a holiday grover. Cleveland signed the bill on this day in eighteen. Eighty seven coca cola syrup and extract. Were patented on this day in nineteen fourteen. What is considered to have triggered the war to end all wars which it turned out not to be austria's archduke. Franz ferdinand was assassinated in sarajevo sarajevo. On this day in nineteen seventy one. The supreme court overturned the conviction mohammed ali for draft evasion. Muhammad ali was a hell of a fighter and a great entertainer. But how do you say to the moms. And dads of the young man who went off and served in vietnam when they were commanded to that. This guy doesn't have to and there will be no consequences for that because he's famous and changed his name. That's just not right. That is just not right. Apparently there's a new orleans version of the show cops this called nightwatch that is rather compelling programming. I haven't seen it yet. I just heard from some of our new orleans listeners. That it's a good program. There's a new netflix show. Chad tells me called the kings. And it's about. Let's see it's about duran hagler hitman hearns and sugar ray leonard sugar ray. Leonard is such a great nickname that when they put marvelous marvin hagler hagler or thomas. The hitman hearns. They put quotes for sugar. Ray leonard that don't even put quote it's just. It's just his name as just who he is. You go well. I started the show by telling you that whether you realize it or not. You saved a life this weekend to and you saved several over the last month i just got an update on a new story. That david malls. We didn't know about another veteran whose life was saved in the greater houston area not the city of houston proper but with an hour away all because somebody new the right phone number to call eight seven seven seven one seven. Ptsd put that in your phone. You just never know when you're the guy that comes up on suicidal veteran and says here. I'm gonna dial this number. There's going to be a veteran wedding on the other line. Take this call. You never know when you're going to need to be the one to share a phone number to save somebody's life because you don't want to have missed that opportunity and later be saying you know. I didn't think he'd do it. But i knew there was a doubt. How many moms and dads said to david malls be. I wish i'd known this program was here when my child was still alive. "Guys that are coming up to the red wings. He built himself a farm team on the same. That played the detroit red wings. And there's something about that home-ice there's something they talk about. Well you know joe lynn. How long have they been little caesars. Like three years four years now There are three years. Yeah but there was used to be this thing about the boards in joe louis and there was like this company was they would give the net where you would hit and it would rebound deadly from had the laser focused on that spot and and they would know right and so your home team playing and even if you're minors are playing in that or they know that rink well we're going back to olympia. Those olympia i no. But i'm just saying the eccentricities of an arena in because most minor league teams today and ever never played in in the same arena or same ballpark the team. This is as i could see the detroit. Lettuces in ann arbor. The only minor league team in all of sports aired in the same stadium is the major league parents who to bring up so he brings up a guy named wilf star. Okay so we'll star wars herbie to replace herbie left wing. Yes as as parcel here we go. This is already sort of break up this narrative that herbie lewis in the three tops. Line is the main three guys. Because he's gone. You've got a minor league replacing them. So we'll start comes up and so so to replace herbie lewis now. I wanna get in so before. I mentioned game thirty five okay so this we haven't done this before but this is a fascinating opportunity to do some kind of cool here and what it is is is herbie lewis. The red wings went on the road to go and play They're about they're going to play in boston. Okay their game thirty five. They're gonna pay in boston. But herbie lewis stays behind. Herbie lewis stays behind. Okay to rest his rib. He doesn't they didn't want him to travel and stuff like this. 'cause he got hurt in game thirty forty thirty four and so we're going to game thirty-five and so before so in the night of game thirty-five herbie lewis is instead of just sitting at home. What resting his rib. Herbie lewis is at olympia. Stadium watching the minor leaguers. Okay so this is a. This is a story i wanted to. The next subject is fairly enough that really important and it's an opportunity to read from herbie lewis perspective about what i'm about to tell you. Next is a significant component of the story so anyway so so herbie. Lewis is sitting at olympic stadium. And this is. This is him sitting there in a writer. that's also. There's sort of observing ham. Okay so so the so. The story comes out February nineteenth nineteen thirty six. It's mcdonagh from the detroit times writing this article so it was pretty prominent goodson liles. We've been reading aloud. Yeah so okay so good. Yeah and second. I gotta go back for a second. They're playing out for just some of the scare canadian trophy. They're playing for the greater potential of city of champions. The greater glory of the city that lions tigers one. Joe louis has done his thing and now the red wings represent the final manse that final championship trophy to put on the mantle of detroit fans in that is that where the The the version of bandwagon comes in. because they're noticing. no. I don't think so. I think what it is is that the fans were were finally engaged. it gave him something to engage. The the engagement was is that again. Joe louis had done has thing. The tigers won the nineteen th the the world series the lyon's at one the nfl championship now. The red wings were the final major championship. So now the and i've said this i even say this in the books is that the not benefited from the city championship season more than the red wings. Because what it did was is the lions. The lions were like the fulcrum when they won on december fifteenth. Anybody that open their paper. They open the newspaper and they see on the same cover that the lions win the championship. And on the same day. that the That the red wings are in. I says red wings move in the first place. It was an instant trigger. And joe louis on the same page said joe. Louis wins a small standing athlete of the year. Nineteen thirty five. So they're like detroit's full of champions or maybe champions. What's his hockey thing all about so now. They're introducing the game hockey. they're drawn fans olympia. And for the first time really ever detroit fans are engaged. They're like what are our chances to win. Who are players. what is this all about. Is this any good. I'm gonna go check out. A game is in the dead of winter. What else do i got to do. They're going to check out red wings games in what they're getting out of. It is a team on the ice. They're a bunch of as we've read articles before warling dervishes red wolves on the prowl. The articles that language newspaper articles. You wish that you were there. Let's let's bring rolling dervishes back but these are the articles that these newspaper writers are writing. And so like like imagine. You're just like you've never watched hockey before. And you're going to work. And the guy goes my god that red wings game last night was so frigging coal and they go. What do you mean like what's hockey..

"They got nobody but they're minor league team detroit olympics outselling or ten thousand people here to see the watch the minor league team in four five thousand coming there to the majors the owners like i. I think i might just switch teams. I just going to bring these boys or will. They knew they knew that. Thirty-five was a big year because the light because the tigers and thirty four had gone all the way to the seventh game in the world series. The lions had been moved from portsmouth. Ohio to detroit in one thousand nine hundred eighty four and they won their first. Ten games came within an inch of the nfl championship and thirty four and so they knew that thirty in the prior to the thirty like when the spring training of nineteen thirty five of the tigers. There's caravans detroit. Fans going down to florida to lakeland to watch the tigers because the tiger fever was absolutely thick in the air is so excitement was just palpable for five so the red wings new the redwings prior to nineteen thirty five. They had a horrible season. I mean they'd been two years prior. They've ended the first stanley cup but they'd only been renamed the red wings three years prior nineteen thirty two. So they've been. This is the third name for the franchise. They're trying to click. What detroit they haven't the fans that are coming to watch the red wings. The majority are from canada. They're coming to watch the red wings. Get get stopped by canadian. Canadian teams whenever. There's a canadian team. Entitle olympia has got eleven thousand fans. Because they're watch they're coming there to root for the canadian teams so so so that's kind of crazy. Dynamic with the home team is like the away team. That's and that's their best nice. They're drawing his. They knew that was unsustainable that if they want to actually become a heartbeat of detroit they had to do something special in the fact that thirty that these other teams were winning in thirty four in the redwings horrendous thirty four they had to be part of the thirty five season they knew this and we spent an entire episode actually diagnosing and understanding. How like they never came out and said we know we have to be competitive in thirty five but you can see by their actions. The fifty thousand dollar transaction. We bought in scotty bowman and sit. The was fastened the differences. But we don't that anybody viewer. The braga has no that. We'll say it one more time when we say. Sit how we say scotty bowman. We're not now so now is now related to gordie howe in scotty. Bowman is not the same. Scotty bowman as the coach know we swore we would never say it again..

The defense has been playing consistently good hockey especially true of abbey. Goodfellow leading scorer among the league's defensemen. Doug john hard hitting rear guardsmen. So this psalm. So that kind of summarizes so actually. I thought wasn't jack. Adams was a meal mcdonald's but i thought it was jags but so there's some rising rate there on at this point season and they're going great. They're going great. And that's the last thing i want to talk about for this for this episode this this components of we're leaving off a gain twenty five hundred halfway through the season the red wings our favorites there brompton through the league. Everything is gone fantastic but we gotta play the blackhawks some more. We got to play the blackhawks. And there's still a half a season to go. Oh my what else because on this chart a couple dips in this chart. Exactly so let me. I'd like for anybody. That's the little shaded. Red is what we talked about today. So you can see on this shirt looking in this. Is this line here is. That's that's off i. That's that's i play. And how many games there ahead of. I guess it's time to. This is the first and let first part they were the hitless wonders anywhere for example. Now and now. It's so there's a couple of dips. It's a way that's about this week. We're going to wear down. Yes or we're going to have to more episodes because those two deaths or we're gonna end up getting to there was like know that's what we're gonna spend. Were and how they recover exactly. That's what i mean. So everything's going to like. They're the favorites to win the nfc at a now shame. Everything's going great. Everything is ruined. Smells santa's drop off trophy has got the trophy bloom. Yeah he's got an already talking our in any sport. You cannot central until it's on your man's though can't even begin blue. You're following the red wings. everything's fine. don't worry about anything that saw is cool. Because it's mentioned. Joe louis the uncrowned in that article. Because i want to talk to him about what his experience is because up until really maybe like a month ago he had pretty much never heard of this and i wanna know like somebody. That's sort of new to the being bit. By that boggles. I want to talk to him about what his what's key beyond. What's in his mind. What does he think how. What does he think about. I to know his because he did a lot of time interviewing me. Run all these questions out of me. I wanna know what his y'all how what his perspective is. And i'm gonna best. We're gonna get to your perspective on a to david this but you get used to the story dalla. The rich names the wonderful language. The detroit history sports history. Because i'm not a sports guy any way shape or form but i just love detroit and i love detroit history and i love positive things about the city and this is just an amazing positive thing about the city. That's been forgotten and shouldn't be and thank you for such and such a big thing. That team's win the saints is. It's the most. I mean it's just like you know. Go back to the orgy. Words we can use it at our title victory or of championships in a winning of the likes of which have never been experienced in the history of injuries perhaps in the history of the world. "That's the first thing that's the first thing i understand is the red wings at this moment are this is the commercial. This is the situation. They're drawing less fans in the minor league team right. So that's so that's why this is. That's why that's why it's important to say what they dig next the so essential because if they would have continued to lose going down the crapper then this who's to say that this red wings sing would've ever been what it is to this very day. Sure so that's like that's the first thing now to the first detail of mine. Another cool detail. Is that the detroit. Lions had just won the western division in the nfl for the nfl. Oh they were headed. They were on their way to the nfl championship. They had and they were not champions at this moment. They were on their way so they just wanted to end this incredible game. We talked about the lions section. But they had this this insane comeback. They went from last place to the western division championship. In this was the day after they had one in a massive group of lions players. Were at this game. They were among the four thousand and they came down to the redwings locker room. There's a whole description of they're talking about how they were in the locker room congratulate on talking about this and so i want to read you a quote with that talks about okay. So this this is an article that they go after the game talking about the significance of this one win. Okay my second win in the we're come on here and it's it might not seem like that big of a deal. Sure second win in eight games. Their big brothers come in and talk with them. Yeah so this is so. This is where the bud shaver steps in is. He's the he has the sports editor of the detroit times and so he has. He says we went to olympia last night to conduct a one man. Grand jury investigation of the redwings. They're having been numerous loud complaints from the citizens that the wings are suffering from an always the bridesmaid. Never a bride complex is seem. We picked the wrong night. The wings showed no trace of halloween or anything else which might disqualify them from success and popularity on their showing last night. We find them not guilty. They'll do a two one victory over boston. Bruins may seem like a narrow escape from tie games which have been the wings. Chief aim in life up to the president. But jack adams boys were much better than the score indicated. The rings had the wings had so much more speed in class than the bruins that at times we counted noses to make sure jackson have twelve men in the ice instead of six..

"Captain right so yeah so so these two components are saying here so so actually we can throw up on the screen. Listen to the redwings captains here all right. This is the this is. This is the beginning when they started with the red wings. That when you go back to the coors and falcons there's a couple of guys are not in important the storytelling so beginning nineteen thirty. Two thirty three we have larry ori- that's that's the first captain. Herbie lewis and thirty three thirty four. Those are the two guys we mentioned. Here's the three musketeers. Yeah right and then notice and thirty four thirty five we have a goodfellow on right this as the announcement. Okay but but this this was needed. Notice nineteen thirty five thirty six. We have doug young okay in so so pay attention. When i just south i quote huddle be will be the captain as long as i am. The manager every will be the captain as long as i am the manager. He said that in thirty four jack adams did and then the next year doug young's so so what. So what would make jack adams back on quoted newspaper source on june so ab goodfellow is one of if not the best place in the red wings all right he is a team captain and he is one of the three musketeers. One of three that article that with the three musketeers came on thirty six so that was after all this entire season. And so what would make jack adams go back on this determination that red wing that in so in the end you'll also notice what's also import notice as you look at look at doug young as captain and this. We have a list of all the years over the captain's doug young's captain for three years in a row. Yeah and then. You'll notice in the thirty eight. Thirty nine b goodfellow picks right back up as the captain for four more years. And what in in forty two years being captain with sid. How so he's so you see that. So there's this not only it's not so the first inclination is the thank you know face value wants to think thirty four thirty five..

"We've been talking about the evolution of you. Know like how the nhl nine detroit franchise grew jack adams and then how entering the season The roster had to you know they they realized in nineteen thirty four thirty five that this you know if they were going to compete with the likes of the with the especially with the tigers but even with the lions they had to be competitive. The thirty five th. They're going to thirty five. They knew that they had to put a real good team together. or just become relevant and irrelevancy in sports means is the kiss of the final kiss of death and so they knew they had to do something so that so they really started plowing. You know. we talked about the money. They spent on players the creativity that jack adams had in phnom getting players in also on how the minor league team was chipping and players. Beat the minor league team. The olympics beat college olympics. Actually beat the parent club which detroit red wings which led adams to look at minor league team. Certainly saying you know this is a team. That's got some components I should just bring the entire minor league team to the majors. Just call a day. But he's got brought in brought in book but instead he he he went for the the guys team but so so anyway. So we've gone on. I think we've done pretty good job going through the main player acquisitions sort of one sort of a final at least one more component to talk about. Which is. i think it's so important as i was thinking about what we should do for today's show. Yeah it is something. I wanted to do something. I really want to spend at least one show on in seoul in. It's something we touched on early on. Like maybe four or five episodes ago which when we started talking about doug young. Yeah so doug young is going. Is doug young. Yep screen so doug young. We want to go back a little bit in time to when we first introducing doug young. We've talked about doug young as a defenseman. He's one of the one of the guys. Jack adams has identified as a core player for this team. He's identified this guy as a as a as a great player Is one of his five core guys. He's not trading. Doug young but the problem with doug young is that doug young had not had yet to reach his potential and so jack adams going into the season he brought he got scotty bowman for fast defenseman. He knew he was pretty much set with scotty. Part of that fifty thousand dollar deal with city young. He's got doug young who is basically. We're talking about the defenseman. He's now he's looking at defensemen and needs at least four solid defensemen for this for this. New team is putting together. So he's got scotty bowman. This is new. Like sorta you know young edition all the And then he's got Doug young who is good but hasn't yet great. He's got potential in baucau idea what he's going to get with bucko he knows bucko did great with the olympics on the nhl though it's another story it's a complete mystery..

"Scores in the nhl and he's just a tremendous playmaker and so now this is a big name guy for the red wings too get in so incident and also they get. They had this huge stroke of luck. Because in this season john ross roach is gonna really struggle okay. He's not so as for this first year has a red. He was really good in the second year. He's really struggling. But the stroke of luck comes in because The montreal canadians had a it must have been their third or fourth backup goalie like he was down down so far on the depth chart. His name is wolf queued. Okay and we got a picture of wealth. Oh there you go. You got coney up there in stream great call there you go so so anyways so seoul the Yeah we got to put a little thing a wealth. And i got a great little shot of him with the saw newspaper shot but anyway so we'll queued and i say lucky because john ross roach struggling terribly in the canadians prior to the season had loaned wealth cute the red wings because they they must they were stacked with so many good goalies that they had this guy. That like you know. He's better off being backup in detroit than a guy who's going to be fourth string in montreal. Canadiens loaned wilf queued. Excuse me to To the redwings just in just in case just as a backup goalie maybe you can get a couple of in a couple of games and and maybe develop this guy. But he's still property the canadians it's important understand. And so he's just basically the loan borrowed to the detroit red wings but so now he's called an action because john ross roach is just playing awfully. He's just playing terrible. And so yeah. I love this picture here. We got on the screen. Anybody they can see anybody that can't what it is. It's a picture of wealth playing goalie and there's would wall in front of the net. And so there's sean like that's how good he was. Spoiler alert with queued was literally the best goalie and the entire. Nhl in one thousand nine thirty three thirty four gear sauce so anyway. So will you know. He's you know he's basically on loan player from montreal. Any comes at detroit as a backup john. Ross wrote struggles and wilf steps in and he leads the team to the stanley cup championship. Oh okay that's how good he john jagannath's right. You know you got the number one goalie in the nhl. He takes his goal against averages. One point six four which is insane. Less like people might think that it was less scoring in back in these days. Intrusion up it was but they still. I forgot what the overall average was still pretty decent. I mean it was it was. It was maybe a half. Maybe a quarter to a half goal less than it is today. I mean it was. It wasn't that big of a deal. I mean it was like this one goal. Every game is will short for some wilford or it could be. I guess i should look. I just i just know him kill like this is i the name. Yes love could probably bill for it so anyways so he leaves in the stanley cup finals and the wings take so so guests who the wings meet in the fine ono who can any that guy who runs.

"I'm doing good and happy holidays, everybody in your listening audience, and we're looking forward to another hockey season coming up in mid January s, so they have those four divisions we discussed in our previous interview. Wings are Wow. Are they in a tough division? Huh? Well, they sure are. But the kind of reminds me of the old original six days, doesn't it? When you think about it, you're playing every team. Eight times in your own division. And then once you finish the regular season, if you qualify for the playoffs, you're gonna play two rounds amongst your division. So you know the Red Wings and all these other teams we're gonna know each and every team pretty well. So you know, I think that that's a benefit to the scouting staff. As far as pre scouting goes because you're playing them so much, you'll know exactly what to expect. Love the wings with hurricanes, black clogs. Blue jackets, stars, Panthers, Predators and the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning, and they're going to rotate its kind of they're not in a bubble, but they're in their own division. Until they get to the playoffs. And that's gonna be a true test of where this franchise is at. And where Stevie why it needs to take them. Well, I think what's gonna be important without any preseason games. You just the fact that you know, these guys have two weeks to get ready to go. And I think there's gonna be a lot of value as far as how practices and scrimmages are running. I know Jeff Flachau wants to have a lot of scrimmage is just so he can see How is new players especially participate in those scrimmages and you know how he's going toe? Put his lines together and who's going to earn the ice time? So you know, right from the get go when they first get going here in two weeks to go before the 1st 1st game and In January. I think it's going to be really important that the guys are ready to go and earn a spot on the team. Well in the wings fan gets a chance to listen to you and Paul Woods on the Wings Radio Network or watch Mickey and Can on Fox Sports Detroit in the Wings coverage. What do you think's gonna be the first noticeable thing about this roster compared to last year? I think you're going to see more balanced scoring, and I like the fact that you know they picked up domestic off. Who's pretty gifted forward. He came into the National Hockey League is basically an offensive forward huge, but he's learned to play a good two way game, and now he's a pretty complete player, and not only that they can use him up and down the lineup. He can play the center position. The wing position. Pretty gifted in that area, and he can also play on the power play and kill penalties. So he's really an all around player. And I just think that over the last several years the Red Wings had one line and if other teams were able to shut down the Larkin Manta Bertuzzi line, they had their way with Detroit. But now with, you know, Ghani coming back, they signed him. Fabri had a pretty good season after they acquired him. Bobby Ryan should help on the power play. Now of a sudden you've got some balance on three lines, and then you've got 1/4 line who are, you know, grinding Bunch guys like Clendenning helm, of course. And you know you can throw in whoever you want on that line as well. And so now you got some pretty good balance, So I just think that you'll see Hopefully some better offensive output from this club When you look at the depth on those lines now, when you get to a third line that could feature Zordon yah that says a lot about what Stevie Wise put together and on the back side. You know, I really love the additional mark stole. I really do. Well, he's a veteran player, and he's been around for a long, long time. He's your typical stay at home defenseman a guy that doesn't panic, but he's got that leadership ability about him, and he doesn't panic when he has the puck in his own self. So that's definitely gonna help out Statures, another guy that they picked up John Merrill from the New Jersey Devils, So you know back there, They got some veteran players that can come in. They know how to play the game. Step right in and hopefully get some help from the fourth coming back and again. It's it's not all about just playing. Defense in your own zone. It's the ability for them. Defenseman Toe. Finally, open wingers of the center Iceman, Get that puck off over to him and get him on the rush. And, you know, if you spend a lot of time in your own film, bad things are gonna happen. But if you've got players that can get the puck to the forwards. And you're on the attack. Then that's the best way to play. Defense can tell Voice of the wings Joining us on the draft King's castle in here on the huge show across Michigan NHL season will begin on January 13th short season, But hockey is back. I know the Canadian Division. There's talk of plain in a bubble. We'll see. What they do with the three American divisions. One note. When I look at this wing's roster can that the wings have been blessed to have a long standing Goalie throughout all their championship runs. And for the first time in a while, we're not gonna have a recognizable name when we look at that gold tending depth chart for the wings. Well, what's important now to is the fact that you're allowed to have three goaltenders and we've got Jonathan Bernier, who I thought played pretty well. The second half of the season last year for Detroit actually took the honors away from Jimmy Howard. They picked up Grice. We had some pretty good seasons over the last couple of years with the New York Islanders and then now you gotta battle for third goaltender. And who's it gonna be? It's gonna be this young kid named Boyle. Is it gonna be Pickard? I mean, who is it going to be? So there's gonna be some jobs one in training camp? Especially that third spot in the goaltending position. And another thing Huge is you're gonna have a taxi squad now. And you know, it's kind of like football. But these guys got to get ready to play because with this cove it still out there. Who's to say that there might be two or three or more players that come down with a positive test. And you need guys that can come in and step right in because you're playing each and every every other day. Almost so, so a taxi squad is really gonna be important as well as goaltending as well. What's missing that steamy y desires, But it's just not gonna happen in the shortened season where the wings need this toe make that next jump. To the next level. What is that kind? Well, that's a good question, and I just think that they need to be more consistent in their play and ah lot of times last year, either they got off the bad starts or they played tight games but couldn't find a way to win. And I just think that you you really have are this team really has to be consistent game in and game out and It's gonna be a battle that when you're only playing in your division, like I said before, there's not gonna be any secrets. It's kind of like a playoff series where you know everything about your opponent because he played him so much So, So I just think that you know teams are gonna beat up on everybody else. And it's gonna be a tough race. Seo see who's gonna be in the playoffs and again. You've got to get off to a good start and you don't want to fall behind. You don't want to be You know, one in five in your first six games, you want to be up there and you want to win some hockey games and get off to a really good start that way you can. You know you're not fighting from behind all the time, And that's one thing that the Red Wings And we're guilty over the last couple of years. They haven't gotten off the really good starts and that's hurt him. Intel. He is a talented radio voice of your Detroit Red.

Get some redwing fans and some people have done some insurance with them and I think is just Everything those have to be always business and it's it's fun to talk some Red Wings and hockey or whatever with with different people ensure and I like that because it's hey, let's let's make sure you're taking care of, but we also have some fun stuff to talk about and interact and have it doesn't always have to be that like, okay. Here's your insurance. Okay. Talk to you ex year it's a there's there's a relationship that can be there and we have a common ground that we can. We can chat about play offs or people one. Like. So many different places that gets. You know trust is about the it's about trust me you know making A. Connection with the business that you can trust and make it happen. So it sounds like there I mean, that's it. No it's I appreciate having on its I'm the I'm so pumped the here about nineteen thirty five it's something that's yeah we're. Tired of the year was so great. The year was so great that we have an entire show built. On is what is the Jamie? What episode episode fifty at fifteen? Yeah. This we have. We have fifteen episodes. We're barely scratched the surface yet. Do you know? What I'm saying like we have an attorney show about it because the season so. Yeah Yeah. Yeah, we'll do you WANNA come hang because we're gonNA, save the winning games for the end. Yeah. We're sweet like that's why the the dilemma last week was because because we want to save all championship games for like one episode. Rattled through them all like you know, we're going to build them all up. Happened within seven what all happened within a seven month stretch of time so We're we talk about the Tigers at the Tigers season like six episodes ago so we don't want to lose track of the fact that they all happen such a short amount of time. So I wanNA, blitz them all at once. That's that's what I wrote the movie for the air screenplay Netflix's ready to go. Play written its final episode is. And that's one of the reasons why we're doing the show, but it's listen to this. Maybe you know where we want to build a movie projects around this and I. I, send us out the Hollywood I. I know people in Hollywood, I do not like some. People like I'm not some kind of you know like some mogul or something, but I do I have some context and Hollywood I, send it out to. But the thing about is I'm hoping to do something organically in Detroit. I'm trying to make like because I like the fear that I have for the movie is if I send this out the Hollywood number one, they'll be like, hey, we'll give you a million dollars for your screenplay or something like this like a couple. Hundred thousand whatever it is, and I'd be tempted to take it and I'd I'd sell it to whatever or even if I did sort of you know sign some kind of deal that they would take it in they call Hollywood izing it. You know this story has got so much substance to it. You don't need to make anything up. It's literally like this entire thing is like it's almost like the book all I did was literally use the books and write it into a screenplay. Some saying like I'm trying to I'm trying to keep the integrity of the story and That's I'm hoping that like this show. Jamie. You know one of my objectives for this entire show is is hopefully to you know that people are listening that. are in a position that want to help put something together for you know the. The net flicks don't we got A. Business together. Yeah. Yeah. We exceptionally I know where he actually already already I'll say. His contract so We can we'll make a deal right now. Signed the contract now for insurance for the. Go. All right. So what? Reports out of here podcast Detroit. Northville shameless plug. Got Plug. We're all plugging. Jamie. Other. No. Another one of the podcast records Outta here is behind the bar with sims vodka, and then Terry Olsen and Bruce Carroll. They both play Juniors Dino those cats at all. I, do. Yeah. I think. So. Yeah. Yeah. He's still they still skate. Thirty six and you're like that Steve Martin thing going. Yeah. Great Zilly. About plugging their product on the show all sample it. Be dropped off to waddles everything stocked gray look. then. Terry was in the chat room and he said as as as he thinks. Tori something with a K. crew crew. Who should he sign with? Will love him come Detroit. Yeah, it's going to be hard for them to get them away from Boston, but he's a Sparty Yeah Oh. Okay. Spurred played after me He's a really good player. He's one of those sports. Ball. There's a lot of rooms our end up. I heard couple of places but be great I mean he's from Detroit. Michigan. State, it'd be awesome here decided to. Do is just talk. Host man there's like just. A couple of minutes magic can have. Talked about Bali freezing up and sometimes when I see stevie around the rink, I talked to him like yeah. I grew up..

"Right of passage like we had a huge tournaments and everybody everybody would know every player in the NHL because they played the games and now as a way for them to get the introduction to it like everybody wanted to be the Red Wings with federal is Erman and that team was incredible. So it's just funny to think of it like that's another way to get impact is through all the community events you're talking about almost introduction through an east sports almost kind of platform as well. With the bucks and Red Wings, you've been a team spokesperson you've managed obviously huge events. You've built partnerships in the community you've handled huge budgets we can go on and on and on. We all have parts of job that we love and we have parts of our jobs that are a little bit more of a struggle. What part of your job was it like harder for you to get into a comfort zone? What with may be pushed you out of your area? That made you had to focus on a little bit more to really master that art form. I would say that being a subject matter expert in the room has been something that. has taken a little while for me to to acclimate to. Eat were often. We know bits and pieces of our job right now, we know the part that we need to know in the role that I'm in. Now I have to know so much more about. What each individual person on my team is is doing. But also what? Other franchises are doing in the market what other businesses in Our doing. Our market but as well as on a national or international scale. and. Really be able to answer the questions that that come at me at sometimes a rapid pace in so. That that shift of. Knowing kind of knowing your lane right to. Knowing, having to know and be the subject matter expert ask for the organization that's relied upon to to give those those answers that that folks are looking for. That's been. It's been a interesting adjustment in something that. has taken a little bit of time for me to to feel comfortable with than and I would say that you'll probably hear that from a lot of folks who say once you get into a this role where you're you're now leading a team and you're you know you're you're you're being tasked with the ability to to. Guide the path within within your space It takes a little while to get used to. Yeah I agree going from being an individual contributor why certain things I had to do, and at the end of the day I had completed them or whatever, that may be being a manager who had set strategy do reviews and hire, and fire, and all those kind of things. That's a that's a big change So let's talk about that part about hiring staff. You obviously have mentioned your team many times you. Obviously have developed a group that you work. Well with how do you do that? How do you? What do you look for? How do you identify people? Because if you post a job I'm sure you're getting a lot of applicants how do you kind of frame your mind around what you're looking for and how somebody can stand out for the right reasons and catch your attention and become a part of your team? Well, we've hit on earlier on a big thing for me is a solid understanding of. This world and and industry bests. We're not going to be the best at everything and we can't think we're we can ever think we are we are right. We always have to challenge ourselves to be better and so a solid understanding of that world within which were working in and and and the industry as a whole is really helpful. Being engaging in conversation is another thing that I really look for in a in folks says were looking to fill positions and Very lucky in my time here with the wings that I haven't had to fill many positions which has been great. and. Engaging in a conversation. In being. Being, able to. Read a room and understand. This is how I need to. This is how I need to approach the way that we're. GonNa be talking to each other. That's very helpful And I would say as a as a last kind of. Quality is. Being down to Earth with a with a really good sense of humor. Were often time. In scenarios where it's it's tough and. In when you're thinking about What are we going to do next for the organization to make sure that we're in the community and you know how do we? Understand that sometimes things aren't going to go away. And we may be really passionate about something but for one reason or another were unable to get it accomplished because of. Reasons or understandings that are outside of our of our purview. So The ability to kind of be down to Earth and I am one hundred percent in the the lanes like a solid sense of humor. Will will get you far at least in my world. Because I've I oftentimes throw out a lot of jokes that don't land. I tend to get I tend to get a sneaker or snare from from a a teammate of or two of mine but. But just the ability to kind of break it up. And it goes back to the notion of worrying entertainment right? We're here to have fun. we're here to in particularly in community relations were here to. To make people smile to make a positive impact on the community end to to hopefully create a ripple effects for a child that that may have otherwise felt like they didn't belong or.

"Today's guests is a shining example of that mix, a combination of elite skill and unrivaled passion and enthusiasm for making a positive change in the World Kevin. Brown is the director of community relations for the Detroit red, wings and the director of the Detroit Red Wings. Foundation it is my pleasure to have him as our guest. Here we let's dive into the world of media relations with Kevin Brown. Hey. Kevin. How are you doing today? I'm Great Ryan. Thanks for having me on I. Really appreciate you coming on this exciting since you have such a great background in in community relations in the sports industry there's a lot of great topics we can talk about and really dig into So let's start with. An easy one in your view, why is community relations such an important part of the sports industry? Will Brian you know early on community relations really was. A part of an organization to a to give back into a really. KIND OF JUST BE A. An area where? I hate to say this, but almost check a box right that you are connected in some fashion with the community and we can move on from mess slow. We've seen in the last few years is that community relations has moved from being more than just a heartbeat them the organization it's now really a vital part of the business and so four sports teams in the industry community relations has become a really interwoven within the strategy of how the organization connecting not only to the community, but its fans into its sponsors and really helping to make that connection points. Come together in a in a really nice story for the franchise. I read somewhere. I saw a CEO quote saying essentially. Get get a little bit but essentially, that community relations represents the soul of an organization and that always struck me that's always stuck out in my mind as like yeah. It's like the heartbeat and a lot of ways, but it's also really become intertwined in the in the business itself as well, which is what it sounds like you're saying. It has it's it is interesting as Vin in the the this line of work for a while now. To see where it is come and the see that individuals like myself in the role I'm in a truly have a seat at the decision table when we're thinking about a what the organization is going to be a and where we're going to go in the future and again it's gone from that. That, Nice. Check it off the list we've done it to really being a key component of of the business as as owners and as as executive leadership are thinking about how to take their sport franchise to the next level and connect with future generations of fans and consumers. Yet it's a big part of the brand as a whole, which is really cool. The see happen. Let's talk about you a little bit earlier in your career you worked with the Tampa Bay buccaneers before joining the Detroit Red Wings, and like most sports sports focused people, you filled various roles you worked a game day supervisor training campus, team services assistant lots of different roles, kind of figured out your path little. But how did you eventually figure out that can community relations? Was Your Path was where you are meant to be. I'll be frank with you I I really didn't know a lot about sports. Growing up I played in t-ball and soccer is a as a young child but never really associated myself with with sport. And when I was in high school, I was looking for opportunities to enhance my college a resume and be able to get into a great school, and there was an opportunity at the Tampa Bay buccaneers to to join a leadership program at the time recalled, student advisory board. and. Really what I saw in. It was a way to do it I liked, which was volunteer my time and to get out in the community and to make a change and make an impact. In and do it with with kind of an interesting brand. In. So I really jumped into spoarer. In a way that isn't your traditional way of jumping into a I. I fell in love with a as I went along I. Guess you can say. So you know for me. I saw community relations really as my path when I started to understand the power of sport and what it can do when it's brand is associated with creating a positive impact or change in the community. We see Spore truly connects people in communities and so community relations is at the center of making that connection really mean something and. That's when I fell in love with it and and knew that this is what I wanted to do. And in. Every sort of way that I could to eventually. Break into it in as you said, held a variety of different roles. But in each of those roles, a that I had an end goal in that Angola was to. Eventually, land in community relations track. Okay. So you earned your degree in marketing. Now that you find yourself in community relations are they're valuable links between those two things to study of marketing and? Community relations and the way that it actually gets implemented and run. Absolutely. You know when we when we think about connecting what we learn in college with with what we're doing in real life. Community relations professionals are storytellers at heart, and for me having a degree in marketing has helped me. Hone that skill of being storyteller. Because we're we're not just doing great things for the community, but we need to also. Make sure that that were we're connecting the dots so that the community knows that that the the great work of the the franchise is is. Really happening. And you should be proud to be a fan of that of that franchise not just for what they do on the ice of, but also what they're doing to make a positive impact in their community. So of for me marketing has been a degree in A. Kalija pass that has really helped. In my day to day as I think about being a storyteller for the franchise with regard to our connection to the community. I love the worst starting to unpack the role a little bit because think most people understand what community relations is. We've all seen events ticket put on. We've all seen the efforts being put forward by an organization to represent certain causes or whatever it may be but for you, I, mean there's a lot to the job. I. Don't think people always fully appreciate the depth of. The role at how much work it takes to put on events or it takes to market or promote what you're doing or to be able to manage the budget etc. There's so many layers to it. How would you describe other than being a storyteller because you've already kind of hit on that? How would you describe the main skill sets necessary to thrive in community relations roles? I think first and foremost flexibility will take you far. In any role whether you're in sports or whether you're an accountant or whether you're. Working. A nine to five at a local grocery store..

"Your strength to to make one pair in this scenario on perfectly fine with it and in past seasons you know hindsight is twenty twenty. But I would've love looking back on it now. I sort of wish they had kept Muslim. Doughty is a pair and he just say listen. Forget the other four guys were just sticking with these at least these guys gray hair and you go at least. These guys escalates one hundred twenty nine minutes a game and we'll just take our chances on the other eight were good yeah a good pair but instead they split them up and they tried to spread the strength and then right they struggled to find. I had a partner for Muslim. And they wound up going through mcnabb and forward for doughty who are adequate. But I don't think anybody would argue really on par with without without he's so walker doubting for now I love it because at this point. You're just looking. You're looking to reinforce quick strong play. You're looking to hold goals against because you just don't WanNa get blown out night in night it out because Kim Bay grunts from Wagner Lozad Amati. Oh what are these guys going to do. If you're down three to nothing every game in the first period right like at some point. You just can't keep digging out of that hole right so I I mean I love it and the Kings scored I again tonight. They did indeed animals copacetic. which is another key? Yeah is it not. When you're playing with a leader makes a big difference? Sweating gave up the lead. But it still makes especially near the bottom of the standings. And you've got a younger Younger but still still inexperienced team right in terms of a lot of the guys at the bottom of the roster. Yup I think for the elders you you look at it hard calm down. Calm Down Kid. L. Elders the old guys who are closely better around thirty thirty year olds thirty to tell me about a brother collecting social security of. Hey Welcome to the club. No it's an interesting thing because I think it's great for this team to start scoring I because for a a year plus we've been chasing and can get old for a lot of the older guys and for the younger guys not only frustrating but just and in over their heads a little bit at times in the heats happening so it's a good change of pace it's a good change of pace but it's just great because because it you know the first goal I don't know at the status but I do know that it's over fifty percent chance of winning the game. Yeah in terms of outcomes if you score I in the game and that really l.. Strangely enough it's lower than it used to be when because we're scoring more goals. But I mean before Dave and I were elders it used to be that of you scored I you had. I'd like a ninety percent chance of winning. I feel like now it's probably down. I can't six ninety it no use to be. I'm saying like twenty years ago. It used I don't remember off the top my head with the stat. Was Somebody Young whipper. I mean it really was like big but this is back on but this is back in the nineties when the Detroit or not Detroit New Jersey devils with take a one nothing. The game is over now was it. Shut down the neutral zone for the rest of the game. And the Hollywood stop everything. He had dominant Kasich Broder. And all those guys But another thing that That only the elders will remember. Is that when Detroit would come to town. The crowd route was an issue because of Detroit scored. You don't WanNa talk about the tweet. There'd be a while I will there but the lower bowl full of red wings fans kings fans Sir but back in the forum. Oh Yeah I'M NOT GONNA blame here to those days back in the form and even in the early days of staple center at the early two thousand seven straight was still rolling through winning remember the frenzy on Figaro right there was a ton of red wings fans were and so even tonight Jack The tweet. I'm referencing Jack's referencing was. I was still Wanna nothing and and it was in the second period of the building was quiet and I thought to myself. This is kind of interesting. I don't ever remember Detroit Games being this quiet quiet and I thought to myself if this was you know if this was an any other season other than this winter or last season that the kings were in last place Detroit would have been really good good night digital right. The crowd would have been sure factor because it would have been good and they would have been scoring yet so smart Aleck Jesse I start writing. I used to on any other night. You know Detroit coming to town would've made me cringe but tonight it's not so bad and then Detroit scores and of course he goes nuts and then five minutes later hearing. Let's go wings chance interesting though when I I've noticed in the past asked when Chicago comes here Montreal Toronto whenever they score and I make a goal announce there's usually a big applause. Yeah opposition when those teams are here tonight not so much I heard a little bit of it. And he had a couple of goals tonight and there are some smatterings of But not as bad as it. I have a theory used to be the the fans who live in L. A.. Now from Detroit right. I'm about to malign your Your people naturally but no I know monsieur. Yeah Not Really People Hills Ninety. I didn't Save Your License Eagle. Because he's a uber. Assayed Nice working with you. Thanks thanks for listening. The point is that twenty to wear poppies is that we know at fifteen twenty years ago when the team went Detroit was rolling yes right and it was twenty years of uninterrupted playoffs. Contention virus or splash but as far as them being like expect. Oh yeah cop sure. I'm ninety three ninety. Four all the way up to two thousand and eight eleven. They wanted to know eight or nine. But I'm saying that's how long the yeah. Yeah they were expected to do it. because it never stopped because there was just a rolling right like even that team you know we just watched the the Russian five documentary. And you're thinking to yourself. Oh is sermon Shanahan. And that but then you look at the roster and you go. Oh my God Lindstrom's on that team. And then he was there all the way through two thousand and eight and you know that's there air for the two thousand and two team you know his rookie or maybe not rookies. Young Zebra like there was a transition from one era to another. It was seamless. Yeah so the fans could could roll with those players from the Federal Larry on writing and so your investment you know your your investment in pretending that you still live in Detroit right. Oh in fact you have lived in Los Angeles for fifteen years and should have moved on by. Now you're able to you're able to cling to that delusion and that and that sort of false part of your identity that you're watering every you know twice a year for twenty years move on But now those players are gonna like and so. There's no one left if you retired it. Yeah if you've lost them if you move to La in the last let's Jimmy Howard County just an applicator you know unless you're moved to La. I should say in the last five years. What do you know about Mantha? What do you know about the Larkin? What do you know about an atheist an ethicist this anthony see you? Thank you like those are just names on. Its you pronounce. That one tonight. Doesn't play in the city. You live right so anyway. That's all right. I don't like Red Wings. Fans I get that. That's awesome my theory. Picking up what. You're putting down theories that they eat dog food. That's a statistic since choke ooh that only John Rosen will appreciate Glenville. One listener will catch on. Maybe pumpernickel will appreciate it to anyway. I think I've done rattling for a second rambling rambling rambling. Yeah that's clerks reference and having anonymous vote again tonight. We'll let's find out Jack Player of the game not sorry play it again. We'll do play play. Hey of the game. It's gotta be goal for at least okay. From my opinion after that response I know I gave it to campaign goal. A AH saved the game and you know good on him for responding after being out last game Dave. I'm going to agree with that. Kemp School. I am not going to agree with. I didn't think he will. Yeah your response. That's kind of going to say. I follows goal in overtime. I'm not oh really Kyle Clifford's something. Kyle Korver his backhand pass from behind the net note dominic with Pope Atari school because everything after COPA SARS goal the other fifteen yes is making up for the lack of scoring right. It's desperate. It's I'm glad it happened but it's you know it is almost too little too late late and it is to whatever it was too late But COPETAS goal was was flawless scored it and escorted early. They come out of the gate. They've won the previous his game. There's all this stuff swirling around the team there's lineup changes and not only. Does he score one goal that he goes on to have a three point night. He's got twenty one points in nineteen games. It kicks it off with a goal. He's the captain it's gotTa start with him so for me. That's the play it again player of again. Quick All right I'm GONNA go quick. I mean I just think three games in a row now. Yeah and money and those goals weren't for just that neither of them whereas fall and that's great to see because you know he has a known to live in a little bit of a Leaguer your or you know the mystery goal over the early part of the season and maybe even a little bit in the last year to go in I. Yeah I don't know goalscorer and mask. It wasn't for you before we go. I WanNa ask you guys this Jack. The goal was disallowed. Is that a goal. No I agree and all right fine. There was contact there. It was contacted that your wasn't much contact. I mean he did follow. He tripped over Bernie. A guy kind of made contact but then he kinda played it up a little bit too like yeah look you just really try to get thirty second right. Yeah Yeah Yeah. Yeah it's just you can't let it regardless of whether the chicken or the egg came first and you know who caused who'd hit each other and so on and so forth you just can't let a goal go. Oh win unless it's so blatantly obvious that it's not goal. Tender interference and that it was caused by the Detroit team. So I'd say no no. I'm just glad it didn't wind up influencing the outcome of the game because if this is a game where they can only score one goal and they have that one taken back then I even though there unless the doesn't matter I'm still not in the category category of we would have lost this game two to one that I think that would have influenced it because it was not. It was never like a goal goal like you went in the net but it was never like A. How could they take that off? The the board. The thing that the thing that stuck with me from that is you didn't see anyone on the king's like complaints and no one didn't even go off which is usually I because I was screaming. No goal really good for watching the referee but offering behind the so. I said Yeah so you know no. I D to rule the organ player for those. That don't know he's the one who controls the Horn so he hits the horn when when the puck was in the narrow so if dealer or didn't see the RAFF wave it off which I think he did but I just to make sure I said it's no gold noble noble. I kept saying that one of my favorite stories that he told me in in episode of the podcast from two years ago maybe last year I don't remember but he does control the Horn and in two thousand fourteen when Albertina scored in overtime to defeat the New York. Rangers Rangers hit the horn. Like four times and wouldn't let go of it. Yeah it was awesome one of the best horns. Oh yeah like. They're still trying to draw villa going. That was great. You can hear it vaguely so I think that is going to wrap it up for this. No Post game on Saturday kings fans against the Vegas Golden Goldeneye because that is the twentieth game of the season and we will be doing a twenty game revisitation of the ten questions that we asked before the season nights. So we'll have that. Let's see well. One of the questions was answered with the Bjorn Foot. And it's looking very much like we might wipe a second question that board to number seventeen might very well might so we'll see but in the meantime please do go ahead and listen to the podcast with John. Rosen and I the other day about Ilya Kovalchuk plus If you haven't already listened to the wild post game it was a good one. I know some of you go back and listen to the old post game episodes that you haven't heard yet. It wasn't easy. I'm not sure why but I appreciate it as good one. And if you WanNa hear me Scrimmage on Rosen again the I got shutout current events episode certain subscribe John Resin until then while until whenever next week. Thanks for listening..

"He came down the ice and had the burners there's on had an opportunity to go to the net make a play or or take a shot and none of the above happened. So why maybe that's ashes. Who He is? And I don't know if his hand can't keep up with his feet some games or whatever it may be you know we. We don't know the answer but you know after a while this is I believe his third full year fourth year in the NHL. where the numbers? Aren't you know supporting wording what we see in terms of talent and I guess that comes down to is this just who is going to be or is it going to be a situation where he finds it or he finds it with the right linemates. We don't know but that whole line in terms firms of Cambay and I believe what Lozad and Wagner and Wagner. We'll see if we get to the point where you know they find it but as of right now is to spend a lot of energy and playmaking but no you. I don't know production whatsoever scoreboard. Yeah he's played two hundred and five games and he's essentially averaging thirteen goals a season. Now that's fine. That's you know it's not if he were a fourth liner or liner. And he were you know playing lights out a defense and winning face off planes sixteen minutes a game. Yeah we'll and thirteen goals. You know. Season is listen you can. You can find other guys to score score. Thirteen goals season right now not right now. Nobody Wagner scored twelve last year and out of nowhere and whatever sixty games whatever it was and it was like hey hey spectacular Austin Wagner score twelve goals. Maybe there's and the crazy thing is and this is not campus fault but it's just built into the expectations. Camping is not actually that much older than Austin Wagner. No but he's been like in the league longer. Yeah like what year two yeah joining joining us now. PA Announcer Dave Joseph. Hello Hello it's a pleasure to see you both. So we're other kings victory that's right you don't get to see that very often now right winning streak. Yeah two in a row constitutes a winning streak ordinarily no so ordinarily it's three but but we have to lower the bar and they played in Montreal so we'll win a three-game don't need good playing also the three plants you don't need a silver lining when we're trying to we're just saying Adrian scores but ultimately the problem is that Wagner Ignorant Lozad and campaign while they looked great out there they dominated play. They were fast. They Got Chances Zero hitter. I mean they did at the end but not as a result result of all right so the problem just saying the problem is you've got a top line coasters at twenty one points in Nineteen Games your fourth line. Whatever combination of Louis Audio Clifford precaution? Whoever it rotates the that's fine the problem is they don't have any secondary scoring? And this line tonight really highlighted that how that is absolutely true. And I think that's GonNa be the big problem with his team all season as long as that's secondary scoring isn't there. They're going to struggle in games and they struggled to win tonight the good win which she's always a good thing but if you don't have that secondary scoring you don't have much of a chance in the NHL every night look at the teams that do well get the secondary and tertiary I guess would third the threat Israel. Yes that's right. That's a big word. I went to college four year college. So yeah look at me. I may be here for five years in college but hey you into a good school though yes. I think that I think you're going to need that every night I'd also scoring defense. Yeah is not there now. I mean Walker. Kirk is putting some assistance and has been solid but Jerusalem putting up drew's numbers and nobody else's really doing a whole lot offensively the on for the defense so that's struggle as well. You might even say that. Their lack of scoring is offensive is offensive. While it get you your Sharpton I. Yeah Yeah you don't even hold all looped up for this. Don't tell them that because they might get defensive. But it's a three to League wordplay. Yeah no well unless you play for Tampa Bay nine nine nine nine three one. Although as their eleventh minded before the the game I think only one player was a plus one because five power play goals adds for the padding of the staff known now but six powerplay units. Yeah AH so. Let's Jonathan quake. Because another strong performance disk well this was not a shutout in my brain but that second goal I I mean really what are you gonNa do to on. Oh we will that floated over him. Oh well there was the two zero two that he really couldn't do anything about what am I. Thinking of the first one the first one was the first one is To Ondo Mantha. Yes yeah yeah. How do you stop that? Well even with his flexibility. I mean there's just no way so I mean that's that's three games now in a row. The Jonathan quick to me goods has looked like Jonathan going. Oh Yeah I would agree with that. Yeah a real street. That's right and that's where it starts. Frankly weekly if if it starts back there and you're getting you've confidence in your goaltender. Goaltender has confidence which I feel like he does now more than he did earlier. This year looks like it makes a big difference. It's and I think the team response to that in front of him in Plays Accordion and then the coaching staff has the ability to let things go in terms of you know turn things a little bit more offensive. Sure absolutely it it starts with your goalie and you know Jonathan Quick Hat. We know he has it. Yup It's it's just a matter of time and that's the the theme of this podcast ask before he got here as a matter of time before we figure things out But at the same time you know hopefully he was gonna find it and we finally see not so far and if if he can keep this up the team has a little bit better chance to start producing more offensively and get out of the Rut that they've been in philosopher Shirley week for sure sure. Can we talk about something really weird. I mean yeah. I don't know where you're going with this but very actor at this hockey related. No ooh No it is drew. doughty paired with Sean Walker. Sean Walker is saving drew doughty season. Like okay what I mean. First of all. I don't know that I've ever seen to right. Handed shot advancement on the same pair. Have you seen to lefties all the time. Yeah there's more lefty defense. The reason I don't know I don't know that either but you know what I'm saying like it's rare to begin with that you get to write shot. Defense went on a pair but also also everybody that has been paired with Sean Walker. Their numbers have improved and everybody who's been paired with doughty to this point their numbers of decreased but Walker is now. I mean walkers numbers are a little bit down. When he's buried dowdy but doughty's numbers are way up? When paired with one guy not say maybe four podcasts ago five podcast ago before we said anything in the PODCAST? I stopped you and I said I need to say this. I like Shaun Walker. You did and and I know it's not you know I'm not saying something that people haven't heard before but you're playing right into Jesse but but he wasn't one of the guys who was who was highly touted coming into camp who who are the touters. There weren't any unsafe who who was doing. Who is doing the touting? You're saying you're saying he wasn't highly touted. I'm saying according to because I've been on I built the Sean Walker Bandwagon. Last December the organization. No station known said we expect a big big year out of Sean Walker. That didn't was. Did we expect a big year out of anyone on defense other than out when when Bjorn foot stepped in. Yeah the reins okay on here. He's going to be good. He's a study up. Then there's the rest of the other guys right. Yeah but Sean Walker has taken the puck and he skated with it and he's he's look good in basically every game this season. Now I'm GonNa hold them is GonNa Stink holding my phone up to you. You go ahead and read the caption on the photo and the directly below the photo you read the date on it reading ahead I dare you. That's what it says on the in the photo and then the photo auto says there is a a a poster board or an over the front of a table that says Sean Walker is an NHL defensemen change my mind and the date below the picture. The deep below the picture is twelve eleven eighteen. So that's almost a full year ago. Rigaud I think Sean Walker at that point and played like seven games or something and you were calling it it then and I was. I was on the Sean Walker Band. Sean I built that thing for tickets. Right kingsman podcasts gmail.com and I think I may have said at this in the previous podcast two or a couple of pockets ago. Don't discount the whole bowling green thing interest because John Walker played a Bowling Green Rob Blake played a bowling Green Nelson. Emerson played a bowling green. Yeah George mcphee. Don't don't overlook that I think there's something there I think guys have guys have an affinity for players who other players who played at their almo- monitor do well. They certainly pay more attention right. Yeah and look at the guys who come up through Saint Cloud state now. It's all the guys from Saint Class. So obviously there's something going on there when who did food work for in the. Oh l. Before he became the Kings. I don't remember who it was. But he would like Clifford and guys like king because he had worked there he saw right right. This is you know if if they see a guy and he oh he played a bowling green. Oh really okay it kind of makes it take a little more notice than just a random player so so I don't discount that and I like walkers on he's he's taken he's made the most of his opportunities and he's definitely shown that he's an NHL defacement. And I don't mind playing with drew doughty at all. Well actually. It's a question not long ago when you said WHO's GonNa play with drew doughty. WHO's the player to play? Would you doubting and since Bjorn foot got sent down it it's kind hadn't been a you know who's who every night I I like it. Do you not like it. I love it. I mean if it's in a season like this I love it because is it's we're we're almost twenty games into the season. The kings are sufficiently in last place. Enough you know. This isn't last year where you're like. Well they're in last has played a game winning streak six game six points out of a blast while the now there in Li- there in right right right so oh ordinarily I'd say like well you're sort of wasting an asset because you're doubling up you have strength which is right side defensemen and you're sort of you know cannibalizing your strength to.
